Gyoda in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Gyoda, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Gyoda offers a mix of deep history and small-city charm within easy reach of Tokyo. You can explore Oshi Castle, associated with famous samurai-era sieges, and walk among the ancient keyhole-shaped burial mounds at Sakitama Kofun Park. Seasonal attractions like large-scale rice paddy art and vast lotus ponds add dramatic scenery, while the town’s long-running tabi (traditional split-toe socks) workshops highlight its craft heritage.
With favorites like Daiji-ji (Chichibu Sanjūyon Kannon Reishō #10), Oshi Castle Gosankai Yagura, and らーめん どんぐり, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Miyoshi and Bistro Fujiyama so you can get the best taste of Gyoda while you’re here. Kodai Hasu No Sato, also known as Ancient Lotus Park, is a stunning green space that showcases the beauty of seasonal cherry and lotus blossoms. This park is home to an impressive collection of 42 different types of lotuses, which bloom in the morning and gracefully close up by afternoon. The flowers can reach sizes up to 20 centimeters in diameter!
The rice field mosaic was amazing! It’s worth visiting. Lotus was out of season when I visited here but the park is nice place to take a walk. The fee of the tower is 400yen and free for the park.

This park has it all..a lovely garden, plenty of space, a picnic area, a playground, and of course, the one-of-a-kind ancient lutos.

Awesome view of the tanbo art! The Lotus are also very pretty. ¥400 entrance fee is worth it. Best to go in the morning around 6am.

I visited Gyoda on 9th August 2025 for the Demon Slayer rice field art, but coincidentally discovered this beautiful Lotus Museum. It turned out to be a wonderful surprise, I got to learn so many new and interesting things!

Favourite spot for lotus viewing! In 2025, the rice field art is Tanjirou! It's gorgeous! There's a huge line, so keep that in mind! We visited on 19th July! The lotus are in full bloom!
Giga Y — Google review
I actually came to see the Tanbo Art (a huge fan of Kimetsu, yes I am) But truly, the lotus here is so pretty. It give you calmness and soothing to the eyes. It feels like being caress or pat on the shoulder after working hars. It is goos to be there. There is many stall that sell food and drinks. The tenants is all kind and warm. And there is one souvenir's shop that you must visit. They sell anything about lotus or about the tower there. They sell lotus product and town's specialty.
Ash V — Google review
Visited the rice paddy art in the end of September. The peak season for the lotus flowers and art is the end of July, but the trip to see the rice art is more than worth it. The scale of it is an impressive site in person. Photos do not do this place justice. The lotus museum/information center below the tower was quite interesting as well! There is lots to do in this area so I recommend making a day trip and visiting the castle and other parks nearby!
Alexis B — Google review
I missed the lotus season but I was still able to see a few kinds of lotus flowers there. I enjoyed strolling and taking pictures there. There’s a musical background in the park so it was relaxing just to sit and appreciate nature. Entry to the park is free but if you want to view the park and the rice field art from the tower, you need to pay 400 yen. See more photos on my Instagram (@sherylgim).

Sakitama Shrine, also known as Maedama Shrine or Sachitama Shrine, is an ancient shrine located in Saitama Prefecture. With a rich history spanning over a millennium, this majestic shrine exudes a serene and tranquil ambiance. Nestled on the sacred Asamazuka burial mound, which stands at an impressive height of 8.7 meters and has a circumference of 92 meters, Sakitama Shrine shares its vicinity with the Saitama burial mounds.

There were two cats around the shrine office 🐈 When we lined up to take a commemorative photo, the cats also sat in front of us 📷✨ We received great service 😆 This shrine is irresistible for cat lovers ꯁꯧ (Original)

(Translated by Google) This shrine is built on top of the Asamayama Kofun. I visited it while touring the burial mounds of the Sakitama Kofun Group. It's a very atmospheric shrine, and I even got to meet a cat. The votive plaque had a cat on it, so perhaps it's a cat shrine? I only saw one, but I wonder if there are actually many? (Translated by Google) This was my first visit! ♪ There's free parking in front of the torii gate, which makes for a great location! ♪ A cat greeted me with a bow \(//∇//)\ He's so friendly and adorable ♡ Now, Sakitama Shrine was formerly known as Saiwai no Mitama Shrine! It's an ancient shrine that gave Saitama Prefecture its name, and is built on top of an ancient tomb called Sengenzuka, according to the Engishiki. It was founded in the late 400s to early 500s, before the Taika Reforms! There are two enshrined deities: Sakitama Hiko no Mikoto and Sakitama Hime no Mikoto. They are gods who protect people, bring happiness, and are gods of matchmaking. The auxiliary shrines include Sengen Shrine, Meiji Shrine, Tenjin Shrine (representing Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning), and Ebisu Daikoku (representing business prosperity and good fortune). It took about 30 minutes to visit everything. (^-^) Since the shrine is located on top of an ancient tomb, the atmosphere changes as you reach the stone steps. The steps are shallow, making it easy to climb. I found a cat-shaped votive tablet and a cat-shaped amulet, and I felt warm and fuzzy at the shrine. (lol) Apparently, there are both pre-written and handwritten goshuin (temple seals), but today I only found pre-written ones! After saying goodbye to the cat from earlier, I was feeling happy and ready to head off. Bye, and be careful! (Translated by Google) I visited this shrine after hearing that it is associated with the birthplace of Saitama Prefecture. The parking lot is very spacious and easy to park in. When leaving, there is a magnificent tree that looks like it might be a sacred tree, so it might be a little difficult to get out. The grounds are spacious and I was able to relax in the cool breeze. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the cats, so I'd like to visit again.

It is believed to have been founded during the reign of Emperor Yūryaku (late 400s to early 500s). The worship hall and main hall are built on top of an ancient burial mound called Sengenzuka. Also located along the approach to the shrine is Sengen Shrine. The dragon carvings on the worship hall's transom are magnificent. Maetama Shrine was once written as "Sachitama Shrine," meaning a shrine where souls are blessed with happiness. Furthermore, since the enshrined deities, Maetamahiko and Maetamahime, are male and female deities, it is also known as a shrine for matchmaking. It is also known as a cat shrine, and four cats can be seen lounging within the grounds. Goshuin stamps are available at the shrine office. Since a priest is always on-site, you're sure to receive one. However, please note that they are on break from 12:00 to 1:00 PM. 2. Goshuin ■ Two Types of Regular Goshuin ■ Flower-Water Goshuin ■ Three-Shrine Pilgrimage Goshuin Regular goshuin stamps consist of the shrine name and seal written in regular script. Flower-Water Goshuin stamps feature the shrine name and seal written in elegant cursive script, with a colorful flower in the lower right corner. Three-Shrine Pilgrimage Goshuin stamps are given at Maetama Shrine, Ono Shrine, and Mitsugi Shrine. When the goshuin stamps from the three shrines are lined up, they form a single picture. (Translated by Google) Sakitama Shrine Enshrined Deity: Maetamahiko Maetamahime The adorable mascot cat He's really chewing on me 🐈 The long journey in pursuit of Konohanasakuyahime is coming to an end. Maetama Shrine is the shrine dedicated to Konohanasakuyahime, and the relocation of Konohanasakuya gave birth to Mount Fuji Sengen Shrine. Further relocations led to the creation of Saitama Prefecture's Maetama Shrine (Gyoda City) and the place names Saitama (Maetama). Konohana no Sakuya was Ninigi's official wife, and while this is generally believed and unquestioned, a Kyushu ancient history researcher states that "Ninigi and Konohana no Sakuya's marriage lasted less than a year, and she subsequently lived with Toyotamahiko (Yatagarasu)..." First, for general understanding: From Wikipedia Konohana no Sakuya-hime: Ninigi-no-Mikoto, the grandson of Amaterasu Omikami, who descended to Hyuga, met her at Cape Kasasa (a legendary site in Miyazaki and Kagoshima prefectures) and proposed to her. Her father, Ooyamatsumi, was delighted and offered her along with her older sister, Iwanaga-hime, but Ninigi-no-Mikoto sent back the ugly Iwanaga-hime and married only the beautiful Konohana no Sakuya-hime. Oyamatsumi was angry and said, "The reason I gave my two daughters together is because I made a vow that if he marries Iwanagahime, the son of the heavenly gods (Ninigi no Mikoto) will have a life as eternal as a rock, and if he marries Konohana no sakuyabime, he will prosper like the blossoms of a tree. If he marries only Konohana no sakuyabime, the son of the heavenly gods will have a life as fleeting as a flower." This is why the lifespan of the emperors, their descendants, will not be as long as that of the gods (see Tenson Korin). Konohana no sakuyabime became pregnant in one night, but Ninigi suspected that the child might be that of a land god. To clear her name, she made a vow and entered the birthing chamber, believing that "if the child is truly that of the heavenly deity Ninigi, she will be able to give birth safely no matter what." She then set fire to the birthing chamber and gave birth to three children: Hoderi (or Hoakari), Hosuseri, and Hoori (Yamasachihiko, whose ridge is Takaya Shrine in Murakaku-cho, Miyazaki City) (see "Birth in the Fire"). Hoori's grandson was the first emperor, Emperor Jimmu. This is the commonly held belief, but Ninigi was really a spoiled son or a snotty-nosed boy... All he did was descend from heaven. If you travel around the country following the accepted interpretation of the Kojiki, you will find many shrines whose origins differ from their original ones. Just because a shrine is large does not necessarily mean it is telling the truth. From the Musashi Province Maetama Shrine website Maetama Shrine is located in Gyoda City, Saitama Prefecture, adjacent to the Sakitama Kofun Group. It stands on top of an ancient tomb known as Sengenzuka, measuring 8.7 meters in height and 92 meters in circumference. The two deities enshrined here are Maetamahiko-no-Mikoto and Maetamahime-no-Mikoto, gods who protect people and bring happiness. One theory about when Maetama Shrine was first enshrined is that it dates back more than a century before the Taika Reforms (645), to the Kofun period (late 400s to early 500s) during the reigns of Emperor Ankan, Emperor Senka, or Emperor Yuryaku. As a vestige of this, the shrine was built facing the group of tombs in prayer. Maetama Shrine is a majestic and venerable ancient shrine with a history spanning over 1,500 years. Maetama Shrine is listed in the Engishiki (927) and is also known as Saiwai no Mitama Shrine. The name "Maetama-gun," originally given to the shrine in the 700s, later evolved into "Saitama-gun," a name that evolved into the current Saitama Prefecture. Maetama Shrine is said to be the shrine where the name Saitama Prefecture originated. Maetama County, Musashi Province, is said to be a place name that appears in the Shosoin Documents Family Register from 726 (Jinki 3). An inscription on an iron sword excavated from the Inariyama Kofun Tumulus, deciphered in 1978 (Showa 53), confirms that the eastern provinces under the Yamato court's control extended into northern Musashi Province in 471. The shrine is built directly above the Sakitama Tumulus Group, where local powerful families from northern Musashi Province are believed to be buried. Maetama Shrine enshrines two Izumo-related deities mentioned in the Kojiki: Sakitamahime-no-Mikoto and Sakitamahiko-no-Mikoto. She is the daughter of Amano-Mikanushinokami and the mother of Mikanushihiko-no-kami. Since both a female and male deity are enshrined here, many visitors come to pray for success in love. There's also a Tamasaki Shrine near Kagoshima Mizobe Airport in Kyushu. According to the local history of the former Mizobe town, Kotamahime evolved into Maetamahime. However, the "mae" in Maetama comes from the "saku" (meaning "before") in Konohanasakuya, which means "saku" (meaning "jackhammer"), and the "kake" (meaning "saku") in jackhammer, which changed to "mae" (meaning "before"). It's not a transformation from "konohanasakuya" to "mae" (meaning "fore"). From this, Konohanasakuyahime appears not to be a princess clad in a beautiful kimono, but rather a mining engineer who extracts metals, refines them, and uses metallurgy to extract iron ore from mines. I looked up the Gyoda City Board of Education's view on the city's website to see what the city's Board of Education thinks about this. Maetama Shrine is an ancient shrine that appears in the Engishiki Shinmei-cho (District of the Imperial Court) as Maetama Shrine Niza Ko. Its enshrined deities are Maetamahiko and Maetamahime, and they are believed to have originally been national deities worshipped by the powerful clan that constructed the Saitama Kofun Group. The New Musashi Fudoki-go also states that during the reign of the Narita clan, Sengen Shrine within Oshi Castle was enshrined here. As worship of Sengen Shrine flourished during the Edo period, the shrine's name also became Sengen Shrine, but in the Meiji period, it was reverted to its original name, Maetama Shrine. Konohanasakuyahime's second husband, Toyotamahiko (Yatagarasu, Chujo, Chichibu-no-Okami, Kamotaketsunomi, Ame-no-futotama, Owakako, Toyokuni-no-Musume, Yatogamikane, Toyohiwake...), who accompanied her, was also a god of ironworks, and the reason for the move may be related to this. After ending her marriage to Ninigi, Konohanasakuyahime went to the Yatagarasu, changed her name to Maetamahime, and traveled to the foot of Mount Fuji, then to Saitama Prefecture, where she settled down. If you go to Maetama Shrine, you will find the shrine of Konohanasakuyahime. Above it, there are shrines for Maetamahiko and Maetamahime, but I believe Maetamahiko is enshrined on top, and Maetamahime (Konohanasakuyahime) is enshrined below. There are votive plaques displayed near the shrine of Konohanasakuyahime, so please take a look. The old man with a beard is the Yatagarasu, and the woman looking at it is Konohanasakuyahime. Looking at the carvings at the shrine dedicated to Maetamahiko above, we see an old man with a beard in the center, a woman on the left, and what looks like Sarutahiko on the right. Looking at each of these carvings, we can see that they may have been brought to Yatagarasu by Sarutahiko. The fact that Maetama Shrine is located in front of the mining engineer and the Inariyama Kofun makes me think that this is the case. Nestled in Gyoda City, the Saitama Prefectural Museum of the Sakitama Ancient Burial Mounds is a treasure trove for history enthusiasts. This museum showcases the remarkable Sakitama Kofun Cluster, featuring ancient burial mounds that date back centuries.
This is a very educational little museum. Most of the exhibits had Japanese, English, Korean and Chinese descriptions. Really amazing the age of the artifacts on exhibit. There's a workshop room where you can make a stone jewel necklace for a few hundred yen.

Good place to learn about archeology. You can clearly see what is in the Kofuns, and even walk in the side of one. The museum is small but has some high quality artifacts

Amazing place, very reminicent of Cahokia Mounds. A bit of a trek, would recommend either timing the bus or using a taxi service. The museum gets 4 stars because they did not have the level of information I was expecting about the details of how the sites were constructed. Not sure if the issue is that academics do not know, or the person I asked at the museum did not know. (Questions like, how did they bring stones all the way from Tokyo bay, how they seemed to chip/smooth the stones, what the insides of the mounds are filled with) If you have any interest in archeological sites, it is worth visiting.

(Translated by Google) From July 12th to August 31st, 2025, the museum is holding the "Saitama Archaeological Exhibition: Messages from the Underground," showcasing recently excavated artifacts from throughout Saitama Prefecture. This museum is dedicated to the Sakitama Kofun Group, a group of nine large ancient tombs designated as a national special historic site. Admission costs 200 yen and allows visitors to tour the main building and the Shogunyama Kofun Exhibition Hall. The group of tombs was built between the end of the 5th century and the 7th century, and one of these, the Inariyama Kofun, yielded a gold-inlaid iron sword, said to be a once-in-a-century discovery. The Inariyama Kofun was partially destroyed during the period of rapid economic growth, and the current tomb is a restored burial mound. The stone chamber in the circular mound at the rear of the tomb was robbed, but many grave goods, primarily weapons, discovered in the gravel chamber and around the wooden coffin, apart from the main part, have been designated national treasures. The original gold-inlaid iron swords were previously on display, but for preservation reasons, elaborate replicas are now on display. The many excavated items are magnificent, but what's most amazing is the densely packed group of large kofun tombs. Admission to the kofun park is free, and there's a large parking lot, making it ideal for a stroll. Photography and posting on social media is also allowed in this museum. The permanent national treasure exhibits include not only the gold-inlaid iron sword, but also mirrors, magatama beads, and many other national treasures. By the way, a replica of the gold-inlaid iron sword is currently on display, but it is scheduled to be unveiled again around spring next year. There are also many other fascinating exhibits, such as haniwa (clay figures). There are also ancient burial mounds nearby, so it's worth the trip to get here. (Translated by Google) I visited the shrine on June 23, 2025. It was a sunny day despite being in the rainy season, and I walked there from Gyoda City Station, but I was drenched in sweat. I bowed in front of the torii gate, purified my body and mind at the temizuya (purification fountain), and then prayed in the worship hall. There is a suikinkutsu (water chimes) to the left of the worship hall, and I tried to pick up the sound on the video, but when I looked later, I couldn't pick it up 😅 So I prayed again behind the main hall, and was given a goshuin (stamp) and an omamori (amulet). There were a lot of people visiting, even though it was a weekday. Located in a corner of the shopping district, about an 8-minute walk from Gyoda-shi Station on the Chichibu Railway, This shrine has a truly gorgeous atmosphere. The grounds are not particularly large, but in addition to the many shrines within, there are many other sights to see, such as the "nade peach" and "knotted ginkgo" trees, the bamboo grove, and Kagami Pond. The water basin is always decorated with seasonal flowers, a delight to the eyes of worshippers. Goshuin stamps are available at the shrine office. The green soybean potage made with local ingredients has a gentle taste, and the consommé soup carefully made by the chef is also delicious. Miyoshi is almost always asked to provide location lunches for film and drama shoots in the area. With the taste, volume, and attention to detail that will satisfy everyone, there is no doubt that they are gaining more fans in the film industry. Business hours may change when there are requests for location lunches. We recommend calling before visiting. There are table seats and tatami seats, so even small children can dine with peace of mind. There is also a free private parking lot a little further away. Gyoda, the town of tabi, is full of sights such as Oshi Castle, Mizuki Park, the ancient lotus village, and ancient tombs. Miyoshi is the best choice for lunch when sightseeing! Bistro
Bistro Fujiyama, although labeled as a bistro, goes beyond the realm of casual dining by offering dishes that are slightly elevated in quality. However, it does not require guests to adhere to an extravagant dress code. Initially designed as a traditional tatami-matted banquet hall, the space has evolved to include tables with chairs for more comfortable seating arrangements. The menu boasts meticulously prepared dishes using high-quality ingredients without any hint of condescension.

The perfect balance of heat that brought out the flavor of the meat and the sauce that went well with the rice was perfect. (Translated by Google) Although it's called a bistro, it's a restaurant that offers a bit more high-class cuisine than casual food. However, it is not a super high class place that requires a dress code. At first, people ate while sitting on cushions in a tatami-matted room that looked like a Japanese-style banquet hall (I liked that and it was unique). Nowadays, a table is set up in the tatami room, and people can sit on chairs to eat. All of the dishes are carefully prepared and are not at all unpleasant. Although it uses good materials, it is very reasonably priced. The wife is in charge of customer service and wait staff. Unagi restaurant
Maruoka, an unagi restaurant housed in a charming historic residence, provides a dining experience distinct from that of typical set menu establishments. Patrons can relish their delightful offerings like Unaju, Shiroyaki, and Hitsumabushi at an affordable cost. Notably, Maruoka stands out for its reasonably priced eels which are expertly grilled to perfection and devoid of any bones. This popular eatery sees a steady stream of customers frequenting its premises.

A quaint restaurant with an old private house. The service is also not so friendly, like that of a set menu restaurant. The price of eels seems to be lower than other eel restaurants. The eel was fluffy and grilled, and had no bones. It seems to be a popular restaurant with many customers coming and going.

(Translated by Google) I arrived at noon on a weekday Friday. They open from 11am, and there were about 5 or 6 customers ahead of me. The building is a renovated old house, and the interior is very clean and historic. I went alone, but was shown to a two-person chair and a four-person tatami room. There was also a four-person table available, so I asked, "Is this okay?" but the four-person table was not available. It's a mystery why they were OK with a four-person tatami room but not a table. After receiving the menu, I immediately ordered the "Special Unaju". Tea and a towel were brought out about five minutes later. I'm not sure if it was the restaurant's policy, but the tea was lukewarm. The eel was brought out about 25 minutes after ordering. The eel came apart without much effort when you put your chopsticks through it. The sauce was a little salty. It was just averagely tasty, but I wasn't particularly impressed. To be honest, I think the "Unadonju Jo" would have been fine. The most disappointing thing was that the waiter was unfriendly throughout the meal. Looking at other people's comments, I see similar opinions, so I guess it's always like this. I don't know if they're a long-established restaurant or what, but if they keep resting on their laurels, customers will eventually leave. I probably won't be going there again. It was a weekday lunchtime, and there were about four groups of customers waiting ahead of me. I was seated at a table in about 20 minutes. While the flavor is a matter of personal preference, I found the taste a little on the strong side for me. As others have commented, the grilled eel liver was a little on the soft side and needed a little more cooking. The grilled eel was just right, but the flesh was a little falling apart. The liver soup was delicious. (Personally, the sansho pepper on the table had a weak aroma, which left me unsure about its freshness.) Thank you for the meal. (Translated by Google) I had passed by this eel restaurant many times before it was renovated more than 20 years ago, and I was always curious about the line up. Finally, I went in today as soon as it opened. I'm sure each person has their own preferences in terms of how well the eel is grilled, the firmness, the smell, the sweetness and spiciness of the sauce, the amount, etc., but personally, I preferred it to the long-established store in Kawagoe (tare-daku) and the long-established store in Mishima (too fussy about side dishes). When I took advantage of the tatami room, saying, ``Seat as you like...'', the floor was heated, which was a nice touch on a cold day. Another person wrote that the tea was lukewarm, but boiling water is not poured into Sencha to bring out the flavor. It took 35 minutes for the eel ju (special) to be served. My neighbor was grumbling, "It's slow!", but it's normal for long-established stores to wait until they receive an order, so it takes a long time. I can't tell because you can't see the cooking area at our restaurant, but if you're at a proper eel restaurant, you shouldn't have to worry about the time. Thank you for the meal. As mentioned in the reviews, they have two commercial-grade fans powered by solar panels, so we felt like we had more time than at Dreamland. It was mid-afternoon, so I thought it might be crowded, but we were able to park smoothly and get through the first hurdle!! There were only three other groups, so the wait was about 10 minutes. My daughter ordered a medium ramen without green onions. I ordered a large wonton ramen, thinking I could handle it. The impact when the bowl arrived was amazing. The noodles jutted out of the soup like a mountain!! It took some ingenuity to eat it, but it was delicious. Then the fight began. My daughter said, I can't finish it, so please eat it. Then Dad's fight started, playing along with the Rocky theme, and we finished it all! I recommend the small size for women. The medium size is probably easier for men as well. Fat Man continues to eat hungrily even when it's hot and his mouth is burned, so large is good. Of course, I want to live my life eating large. Thank you for the meal. The large size is enough for three bowls, so it's quite impressive lol. These are Okamoto Seimen's thin noodles, which are easy to eat and great. Because they're thin, they tend to get soggy, so if you're a big eater or have a sensitive tongue, a firmer noodle might be a good choice. Or, it's great to use a hand fan to cool the noodles and soup while you're eating! The restrooms are clean, but I wish there were hand towels at the sink. 2025/06 I ordered the large ramen (1,050 yen). The soup was truly exquisite! It was a refreshing dried fish-based ramen, but had a strong flavor and was incredibly delicious. It came with one slice of char siu, one rare piece of nori seaweed, naruto, and bamboo shoots. The noodles were thin and curly, making them easy to eat, and the soup clung to them well. The portion was about three bowls, so I was very satisfied! Nature & Parks
Hitsujiyama Park is a picturesque setting known for its vibrant flower displays, making it a popular destination in spring. The park features Shibazakura, a unique type of cherry blossom that carpets the area in various shades of pink and white, creating a stunning contrast against the backdrop of the surrounding mountains. Visitors can enjoy outdoor activities and take in the beauty of thousands of cherry blossoms blooming like a fluffy pink carpet at this scenic park near Tokyo.
Every year during spring, golden week and autumn, I come to enjoy Chichibu’s natural beauty. I visited this park on May 4th 2024. Although the moss phlox season has passed, it is still nice to sit outdoor with fresh air and natural scenery. There’s a farm market, they call it ‘marche’ and there is a sheep farm. Still in the same area, a bit further there is an athletic park for children. It’s recommended for a family with children.

This is a vast park. I originally just wanted to come here for an early morning run, but since the park is on a slope (or hill), I changed my mind and decided to take a walk instead. It has large lawns and walking trails (or paths), and it's quite interesting because you can even spot some animals here.

Hitsujiyama Park, Chichibu, is known for its attractive moss-pink field. Open hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the festival from mid-April to early May. The ticket price was just 300 yen per adult, and it’s really worth it. The ticket counter staff and other staff were really kind and friendly. The park is well maintained, and they have some beautiful flower decorations too. They had 10 types of flowers there, and those flowers are lovely and take away all stress. This hillside park is pretty crowded during festival season, but you can still enjoy it. You can enjoy a variety of foods from stoles in addition to the moss pink yard. There are plenty of food styles, which include Japanese traditional cuisine. The food was really yummy, and the vendors were really nice. When you go a few steps further, you can see a few sheep on their small farm. Sometimes we can’t actually watch sheep at the zoo, so I feel so happy. However, take my advice: if you go during peak season, please be ready to walk, or else you can get on a taxi too. I walked from Chchibu station to Hitsujiyama Park, and it took me 20 minutes, but it was a nice experience. This gorgeous park gives you fresh air to breathe. It was worth visiting this garden again, and I hope to go there next year too.

Daiji-ji, also known as Chichibu Sanjūyon Kannon Reishō #10, is a captivating temple nestled in the serene Matsuyama area. Founded in 1490 and later rebuilt by Zen master Higashio, this Soto sect temple is dedicated to the Holy Kanzeon Bodhisattva. Visitors can enjoy a picturesque journey from Iwanouedo Temple through lush gardens adorned with seasonal blooms before reaching Daiji-ji.
If you are a fan of Kokoro ga Sakebitagatterunda (The Anthem of the Heart) you will love this place.

This temple is a sacred place in the Chichibu trilogy of animated films, ``Kokoro ga Shiroitatteru da'' and appears frequently in the films. For this reason, there are exchange notes for fans who come on pilgrimages to holy places, and there are also a wide variety of collaboration gifts. After receiving the Goshuin stamp, I drew a Kokosake Tamago lottery ticket with an illustration of the order. I'm happy with Daikichi. The lottery also includes a keychain, so it's recommended for fans. Musashi Kyuryo National Government Park is a large park with seasonal flower gardens, plum tree forests, adventure courses, trampolines, and cycle paths. There are multiple fields in the park that require ample time to explore fully. The park offers various amenities such as walking grounds, bike paths, dog runs and rest areas for visitors to enjoy. Entrance fee costs 450 yen which makes it an affordable destination for hiking and trekking activities.
This Saitama national park is renowned for its flowers and offers excellent bicycle rental at the central entrance - both electric and regular bikes available for use on dedicated cycling paths. The route toward the north gate features stunning flower gardens and greenhouses that attract many dog owners for photos, with beautifully maintained blooms and well-kept grounds. The park includes a large reservoir and cycling the entire area takes 2-3 hours at a brisk pace, probably 4 hours if you want to leisurely explore and properly appreciate the scenery. With relatively few crowds, it’s perfect for peaceful time in a beautiful natural environment. The cycling infrastructure and flower displays make it an ideal escape from urban life.

This is a huge park perfect for elementary kids. You can easily spend half a day inside. They have different playground facilities that are well mentained. We entered from the South gate, rented bicycles, then went to the West side of the park. We only had time to play around Kids Dome, Water park, and Wood obstacle course. Kids had a blast. 700 yen for parking. 600 yen for 3H adult bicycle 450 yen for entrance for adults (elementary and younger are free)

Beautifully-landscaped park. Gardens with sculptures, pond, gurgling creek, open fields, bike route, paved and unpaved strolling paths. Small enough park to walk all over, perfect for spending half a day or so. Nice place for family, friends, couple, pets for relaxing & enjoying nature. Would like to come back for evening lighting for garden/sculpture viewing. If you feel more active, bike rental available, 450 yen for 3 hours. Lots of short stretches of moderate rolling hills on winding, paved route. Fairly small park but the bike route feels wild with nature. Plenty vending machines, bathrooms, cafes, and a few food trucks. Fair parking, 650 yen, entire day. Takes credit/debit card, but some spots cash only.

This place is so good! I recommend to rent a bike here. We can ride around the park, since the park is huge. I went to this park in spring. There are three type of flowers; lupine, nemophila and poppy. The entrance fee is ¥450 and rent a bike is around ¥400/ 3 hours. I really like this place!

If you're going here I recommend buying the Set Tickets from Tobu. It's available in the eMot app and you can use it from Ikebukuro. It's a set of Roundtrip Train Tickets, Bus Tickets to the park and also the Entrance Fee. Total of around 1700yen. The whole park was big so need a comfortable shoes to roam around the park. They have different Flower Gardens depends on the Season. Went during May this are the flowers there.

(Translated by Google) I visited the Gyoda City Local History Museum. The museum introduces the history of Gyoda City chronologically, allowing visitors to systematically learn about the region's development. Modern exhibits highlight Gyoda's development as "the town of tabi" and explain the background behind the spread of Gyoda tabi throughout the country. There was also an exhibit on the Saitama Kofun Group, a national special historic site, where visitors could learn about the culture of the Kofun period and the role of the region. During my visit, a special exhibition, "Gyoda during Wartime," was being held, and I was deeply impressed by the materials conveying life and living conditions during the war. Through the displays of everyday items and the changes in industry at the time, I was able to see how the region overcame the times. My wife and daughter also took the "Gyoda Tabi Quiz," which was a fun quiz-style experience, further deepening my understanding of the region's history. Furthermore, visitors can climb the tower of the neighboring Oshi Castle, offering a panoramic view of the castle town. This museum is perfect for combining sightseeing with learning. Oshi Castle, a reconstructed stronghold and significant site from Japan's Warring States Period, is located in the charming city of Gyoda. This historical gem is renowned for its resilience during a prolonged siege by warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1590, earning it the affectionate nickname 'Turtle Castle.' The castle has been beautifully renovated to serve as both an attraction and a venue for exhibitions that delve into local history and samurai culture.
Worth the trip as this castle is full of good history in many points. The castle is filled with exhibits on every level so there on't be a bored moment. The grounds is well kept and photo ops are at several majestic spots.

Oshi Castle Note: parking available The castle grounds and the surrounding areas are free to tour and walk around. They are well kept, have some aesthetic areas for photos and some seating areas to enjoy the peaceful nature of this place. Dogs are also welcomed. Attached to the main castle grounds area is a museum but that does have an entry fee and as I am not wanting to spend much I chose not to go. Overall the place is well preserved but quick to tour if not going to the museum. You can walk around the property in about 10 minutes I would assume the museum adds some time to it.

Kanetsukido is a charming eatery that captures the essence of traditional Japanese snacks, particularly known for its delightful jelly fries. Run by a warm and welcoming team of ladies, this spot offers visitors an inviting atmosphere reminiscent of the Showa era. The jelly fries are a unique treat, resembling croquettes but made primarily from soy pulp, resulting in a deliciously chewy texture without being overly mushy. They pair perfectly with drinks or can be enjoyed as a satisfying snack on their own.
(Translated by Google) Visited August 8, 2025 I visited Gyoda for their jelly fries and fries. The jelly fries were like croquettes, without breadcrumbs, and despite being 90% soy pulp, they weren't mushy and were very delicious. They were a great snack or a great accompaniment to alcohol. The fries were like thin okonomiyaki, mainly made with wheat flour. They were chewy and delicious. I ordered both with sauce. The sauce, not too sweet like Worcestershire, was refreshing and easy to eat. There are two tables inside and one outside. The nostalgic interior and exterior were both very lovely. Information on changed business hours, August closing dates, and menu photos is available. Parking is available next door and elsewhere. I ordered a small serving of fries with egg and one serving of jelly fries (two pieces). I'd rarely eaten fries outside of Iwase in Kumagaya, but the texture was a little different from Iwase's. (Iwase's are sprinkled with something like tempura flakes, giving them a slightly crunchy texture.) Even the small fries were just over 20cm in diameter and very satisfying. I could really taste the egg, and they paired well with the sauce. It was my first time trying jelly fries. The simple taste evoked a nostalgic feeling. At 220 yen for two, they were very affordable. I'd definitely like to stop by again.
