Tapas bar
Spanish restaurant
Casa Balbino is a traditional tavern located in the Plaza del Cabildo, at the heart of Sanlucar de Barrameda. It's renowned among locals and travelers for its high-quality hot and cold tapas, seafood specialties, and stews.
Drove from Jerez to try the tortilla de Camarones and they did not disappoint. Arrived around 12:30pm for lunch to avoid the crowd and glad we did since a long line formed later on. Each order comes with 2 pieces of perfectly seasoned and fried tortillas that is light, airy and yes, greasy! Soooo good! We also ordered Squid eggs in olive oil. Not my favorite. It needed more salt or seasoning in my opinion but luckily we ordered clam in garlic, olive oil sauce which was delicious and plenty of sauce leftover to share with the squid eggs. 😉 Fish eggs were average. It was very pleasant to sit in the outdoor area with beautiful flowers and a flowing fountain nearby. Glass display case with all the dishes and ingredients clearly visible inside the restaurant.

The food was delicious, had lunch on a Friday and needed to join a short line but it was worth the wait. Service was friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere in the square was hopping. Make sure to try the tortillas de camerones ❤️
Ruth F — Google review
I've been visiting Casa Balbino every year when I visit from abroad. The quality of food is always first class, delicious tapas, both hot and cold. Everything fresh and totally traditional to the region. Tables in the main square are a hot commodity so often there's a wait. Try to get there early if you can! There are also tables on the side alley - less nice but if you visit mainly for good food, won't matter much where you sit. One time we had less than pleasant experience when we visited with my elderly suegra. She walked with a rollator, we were 5 people but got seated in a small table for 4 in the alley, despite bigger tables being available there. Granted, it was rush hours so possibly they were keeping larger table in case a bigger group comes. At the end there wasn't any bigger group so a couple got seated at a large table while we were squished at a 4 person table, being 5 people plus a walker. Aside from that little hiccup, love this place. Best tortillas de camarones around!
Jas E — Google review
The food have been amazing, the service have been fast, the taste of all the dishes have been incredible. The most delicious dish at least for my was Gambas al ajillo Maybe the service need to be more discreet when talk with between them but in general have been amazing.
Carlos T — Google review
Very nice Tortilla de Camarones! Worth for that. For sitting down we had to wait but it goes fast. Service was a bit slow but they were swamped.
Alejandro R — Google review
Join the queue and it will worth waiting! It’s located in a lovely corner of the Plaza. It’s definitely a true tapas experience. Everything was tasty and the value/quality is just top! I loveeeeeeed the clams in sherry sauce and the stuffed aubergine with shrimps! Would love to come back!

Went for lunch. The restaurant wasn't busy when we arrived. Got seated right away. Waiter gave us a menu card, asked what we wanted to drink then disappeared. 10 mins later, another waiter brought us 2 riojas when we'd asked for verdejo. About 10 mins later we got our drinks. We noticed that several tables had been seated after us. Another 15 mins passed and I started asking wait staff to take our order. They each said they'd send our waiter. He passed by several times and kept saying he'd be right with us. All the while he was taking lunch orders from tables that had been seated after us and bringing them food. Finally I was able to get him to stop and talk to me. I admit I was angry at that point. I pointed out to him that 2 tables were already eating their lunch while we hadn't even been given a chance to order. He got verbally combative with me, said that those tables had flagged him down and said we should have done the same. Idiot. I wasn't going to argue with him anymore, I asked him for a complaint form. He pretended not to know what I was talking about. I asked for our wine bill which was 6€. Paid the bill and left. We were there for almost an hour. I will never go back to this awful place.
Dolores M — Google review
We went at the recommendation of Jose Andres like most Americans. I was skeptical because of what a scene it is, but we had a great experience. The tortillas de camarones were the draw, and they were good but the gambas y berenjena were next level, as were the adobo. Be bold and order past the usuals here! Staff was fast but lovely.

Don’t get why people rave about this place. Tried the most basic flavor, vanilla and it tasted like a horchata. Not interesting, industrial cheap flavor, am not here for a discussion or argument, just to notify that I don’t recommend this place and would advise you to look further to give another place a chance. ✌🏻

Nestled in the charming Calle Truco, where the vibrant Barrio Bajo meets the lively Barrio Alto, Taberna La Cigarrera is a delightful spot to indulge in local cuisine while soaking up the atmosphere of Sanlúcar de Barrameda. This picturesque tavern boasts an expansive courtyard that comes alive with flamenco performances, making it a perfect place for an afternoon escape.
We did not eat here, we took the English speaking tour of the winery. Our host Laura was very charming and told us all about the production methods and the different types of sherry that they produce here. Afterwards we had a tasting (3 glasses each, 6 different sherries) in the patio. Altogether we spent about 1 hour and it was very pleasant.
Steven T — Google review
The taverna is very authentic just beside the wine barrels. I went on a tour which is well worth to experience. You learn about the local wines and at the end there is a degustation, so you can easier choose which wines you prefer. I was going for the red sweet one...., but manzanilla is also good to take it with food.
Igor F — Google review
We chose pisto with eggs and fish stew. Everything was delicious and abundant. Fair priced. Service a bit slow, but place was packed.

Thursday evening. Google said open, the website said open, the sign outside said open. It was closed. 3 stars because I ate here previously and it was excellent.
NickJG — Google review
Despite the friendliness of the waiter, the restaurant's policy seems to be energetically pushing dishes and drinks onto the customers and bullying them. First, it was some house wine that "everyone has" in the restaurant. Some of us thought it was a welcoming drink. We agreed to take it only to find it to be too alcoholic and we were unable to drink it. As per the picture attached  taken at the end of the meal. Secondly, after "negotiating" the dishes, we found them all greasy and oily. Finally, when we questioned the bill with the wine and a service charge and asked to talk with the manager, he came in just to confront and bully us. After reading the other reviews here, we confirmed that this service and practices are part of their organizational culture. I would not return here even if I was being paid for it.
Ricardo S — Google review
Our guide made this place a final stop of our tour; Through the ambient cellar that housed numerous barrels of wine still maturing and into the open air patio which was naturally shaded by greenery. Our server lead us to another section of the restaurant which had us seated next to more barrels. We've sampled the wine, to my own opinion was delicious. The food served was delectable yet affordable. The atmosphere overall had a rustic, homely feel that made the entire experience enjoyable. I encourage anyone who visits this city, should definitely head to this restaurant.
Eric C — Google review
We really enjoyed our meal here! Such a great place. The food was excellent. Very good service! I recommend this restaurant

Magical courtyard when I visited on a Sunday, Oct 2018. Families on their sobremesas, the fat lady sings, perfect festive atmosphere all round to soak up the afternoon. If you prefer a market-to-table experience, pick up 500g-1kg of fresh Sanlucar de Barrameda langostinos from the mercado a short walk away and bring them here to be cooked a la plancha (grilled), al vapor (steamed)... And order up the pride of Sanlúcar... dry sweet-salty MANZANILLA! 📌 Attached menu for your perusal

Bodegas Hidalgo - La Gitana is a family-owned winery that has been producing the famed La Gitana manzanilla since 1792. Located in Sanlucar de Barrameda, its ancient solera systems and cathedral-like whitewashed warehouses contribute to the unique character of its sherry. The humid, maritime air results in a thicker flor, giving the manzanilla a distinctive and refreshing flavor that locals can't get enough of.
Loved this. We also did the Lustau tour in Jerez but we enjoyed this one a lot more. Leo the tour guide was fantastic, highly recommended!

We had a fantastic tour led by Leo (Leonora) who was totally passionate about the wonderful wines of Manzanilla and delivered all the information in easily digestible chunks. I have had 49 years in the wines and spirits industry and been to a number of sherry bodegas before, but I certainly learnt a lot. I can thoroughly recommend visiting Bodegas Hidalgo and hope you get lucky in having Leo as your guide - she is a total star! Lorne Mackillop MW

My wife and I took the tour with our two sons, and agreed that it was the best bodega tour we've ever been on--and we've been going on bodega tours in the region for nearly 20 years. Our guide, Leo, was fantastic: She provided loads of information on the process and history behind the wine, answered all our questions, and conveyed a genuine passion for manzanilla. And the wine was absolutely delicious! If you're shopping for a bodega tour in Sanlucar, don't even bother looking elsewhere: This is the one. We took a cab back and forth from Jerez de la Frontera to do the tour, have lunch, go to the beach and visit the castle. It was 100% worth it, and I'd have come just for the bodega! :-)
Alexander G — Google review
I have visited several bodegas in Spain, and each one has been unique and memorable. However, my recent tour of Bodegas Hidalgo La Gitana was truly exceptional. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the winery and its wines. She shared his insights with us in a way that was both informative and engaging. I felt that our time at Bodega La Gitana was well spent, and our host couldn't have been more charming, passionate, or knowledgeable.
Zareh J — Google review
The English tour was really interesting and made by a very sympathetic woman who explained many things about Manzanilla. We have tasted 6 wines and got some cheese in the end as well.

Very detailed and authentic tour. Soraya explained everything clearly and answered all the questions. Bodega itself is very cool! I loved the patios and all the greenery around!

Fábrica De Hielo is a converted ice factory that now serves as a visitors' center showcasing the natural history and culture of the region. The space is vast, but the displays are mediocre. However, it's worth visiting for the unique Donana park and its wildlife. All trips require licensed guides, and overall it provides a nice overview of the area for tourists.
This is the place to visit (we went in because of the tiles outside!). Lots of things to see & learn about... Magellan circumnavigation & Columbus to Americas journeys for starters. This is also the place to book and get your tickets for the river trip to the national park. Be sure to get the 4x4 tour. You won't regret it. English speaking guide for some of the trips. The staff behind the desk are really helpful giving advice as to which trip and what time/where to be.

The staff's friendliness made this for me. The displays are mediocre in a vast space. The park (Doñana) however is unique and worth a visit for the history and for the wildlife. All trips are with licenced guides.

Customer service was phenomenal!! And the food was just out of this world. Completely recommend it!!

We had lunch in the shade on a sunny February day with at least a hundred other people in the main square of Sanlúcar. The food we tried was excellent, the salmorejo was divine.

Nice restaurant on the busy main square. Limited menu but good food. Service efficient but brusk. Great fish.

This is how I dreamed a lazy afternoon in a Southern Spanish town should be. Nice little square, the sister cafe of La Gitana bodega and seemingly endless delicious tapas accompanied by chilled glasses of deliciously dry and ever so slightly salted manzanilla.

Great local specialties for either lunch, dinner or just tapas and drinks. Try the gambas ajillo (prawns in garlic olive oil), acedias (baby sole fish) or the experty cut jamon off the bone. Good selection of local wines and of course its name sake La Gitana (the gipsy maiden) manzania - the local dry pale sherry.

Didn't mean to eat here but so glad we did. Excellent food, excellent service & a very friendly place. It was busy but we got a table & one of the well dressed staff was soon with us taking our order. The baby squid in sauce was delicious as was the tuna with dressed potatoes & shrimp croquettes.

Nice 👍 was there on a Thursday night, town full of life and noise as expected. Didn't order a lot but what I did get was good and the beer was fantastic after a long trip to Sanlúcar. It was recommended buy a friend to go so we did go. Thanks for a nice short stop for tapas.

Reasonably priced tapas lunch. Had to put name down to get table but waited less than 10 minutes for outside table. Service was slow (hard to get their attention & busy) but food worth the wait. We enjoyed langoustines, albondigas in tomato (slightly soft and tasted cumin), shrimp camarones (really good, and big) and local speciality of potato with mackerel (definitely worth a try and nicer than it may sound!). With 2 glasses of Manzanilla. €28 altogether so really good value.

Another marvellous restaurant with excellent food and to service. Set in this busy square there is plenty to watch while savouring the food and sherries. Only downside is pigeons which some customers foolishly feed.

Great experience here. Could sense already when taking out chairs and tables that this place would be busy - and so it was! Restaurante EntreBotas is a hidden gem nestled in the charming patio of Bodegas Hidalgo la Gitana. The restaurant offers a delightful ambiance, especially with its outdoor seating area surrounded by vibrant bougainvillea and the aroma of manzanilla. Visitors can also partake in the Entrebotas Experience, which includes a sherry tasting and bodega tour followed by a delectable meal at the restaurant.
This has been our best restaurant experience in Sanlucar by far. The place is located in a courtyard between two buildings next to a winery what it add character to the space. Everything we got was delicious, we specially liked the recommendation for the menu (steak tartar) and the rabo de toro empanadillas The wine we selected was not that good, but probably was bad luck. I’ll definitely return next time I come back to Sanlucar.

Who'd have believed it? Local Sanlucar folk having a knees up & doing the conga! That said, albeit beside a lovely bodega, this is a proper restaurant serving outstanding food. I tried a salady salmon (dados de salmon) & regaña de atun (homemade savoury biscuit with slithers of fresh tuna) and a Focaccia dish. Mightily fine and sensibly priced. Can't rate high enough unless you happen to catch the punters at the end of bodega tour having a rowdy 'one for the road' at the outdoor bar.

We were very disappointed with the overall experience. The food was good but not great the starter - rocket, burrata and anchovies salad- was outstanding but the rest of the food was just ok. However the staff were not friendly or welcoming- the service they gave to Spanish customers was completely different to the service we received. Disappointing as the venue could be memorable but didn’t live up to setting

The worst food I have been served in Spain. Dry overcooked fish and vegetables. The vegetables were nuked more than once- More interested in serving a big event in the Bodega than the A La carte Menu customers.

What a change in 6 months it has gone from a must visit to one to avoid. It no longer has the appeal and style of a bar associated with the La Gitana name. Suddenly they appear to no longer care. 😭

Mirado Donana Restaurant offers a prime location that steals the spotlight – right in front of a mesmerizing sunset sea view. The captivating setting alone is worth a visit. The food and service both fall under the 'okay' category, leaving room for improvement. Perhaps it's the sea breeze that adds a unique touch to the experience. It's worth noting that dinner starting at 9:00 pm offers a chance to embrace a leisurely evening. With the breathtaking sunset as a backdrop, Mirado Donana is a spot where nature's beauty takes center stage. A solid 3.5 stars for its exceptional location and the promise of better things to come.

One star because of the attempted swindling of customers. 70% of the food was okay but several dishes had to be sent back due to being too salty. Im short we received the bill and noticed that we had been charged for 1.5kg Urta instead of 800grams. We brought this to the attention of the waiter and requested to speak to the manager. The waiter returned almost ten minutes later and stated that he mistakenly charged us food from another table. The waiters actions seemed rehearsed.

They Don’t have the price on the menu and Let us pay 51 euros for 2 prawns. We should have called the police but it was late in the night and couldn’t wait. Don’t go!!!

A big disappointment. We ordered dorada fish. It didn't look good when it arrived and didn't taste good so didn't eat it. The waitress said it was cooked with olive oil. We understood that but it was like wet cottonwool. She came back and said it wasn't dorado, so they wouldn't charge us. Nobody came to apologise, and at that price they were trying to get away with dumping fish on unsuspecting 'foreigners'. We live in Spain, so beware of what you're paying for!!

The staff are absolute and utter disgraces to what is normally great Spanish hospitality. Maybe because we were not locals/spanish I'm not sure but there is no excuse to be so rude. I will never return to that place and whoever is in charge should be ashamed of themselves. Completely unacceptable and inappropriate behaviour from all. Absolutely disgusted with the whole experience. Never ever ever shall I return to that hell hole.

After some thought, I have chosen the 1 star rating to express the frustration of feeling outright scammed. The restaurant billed us for almost double the amount of fish that our table was able to eat. They surely got their extra euros from our table but they will not see me there again.

Mall with a variety of shops. Unfortunately many shops closed, food court was completely closed when we were there. No Inditex shops (ZARA etc.) at all. Easy parking, access with public bus
Frank F — Google review
This mall has to be one of the worst in the area. It looks beautiful from the outside, but inside, it's just another sad, dying mall. So many empty retail spaces. I really wish they could open up more in this mall to save it. The stores that were open were okay though, just not very many.
Kenneth G — Google review
This is absolutely a great shopping center for the location of town. There are a lot of options when it comes to clothing, shoe stores, places to eat, and grocery shopping. We always go here when we visit Sanlucar de Barrameda.
Alzira E — Google review
Way to overpriced and waste of time to go there drive 10 min to go to a local store 🤷
Jeppe H — Google review
Every year that I go there are less and less stores in here... Soon they'll have to repurpose it. I only have memory of being there over the summer, which is when there's the most amount of people around the area and it has always been basically empty. That makes parking awesome. But it's not a good idea to go shopping here.
Gonzalo S — Google review
Centre was eerily quiet when we visited, the car park being so devoid of cars we thought the place was closed! All the usual Spanish fashion brands are here. Also of note is a branch of the Portuguese "A Loja do Gato Preto" home-wears chain. For food shopping there's an Alcampo hypermarket. The centre is a bit old and unloved with a fair few closed-down stores but the staff in all of the stores we visited were helpful and friendly and it was so nice to have them practically all to ourselves!!

One of the oldest and best bodega in Spain. I love all the historical buildings and stories here. Impressive wine cellars and storage facilities. It is definitely worth a visit for wine lovers.

Well looked after by tour hostess, Erin. Make sure you book & are on time! I bought and have since tried the 'Nave Trinidad' manzanilla (pictured)- just outstanding. The walk up the hill is really worthwhile

Cengizhan Ö — Google review
It's been on my bucket list to take a pilgrimage to this iconic bodegas. Was thoroughly impressed beyond even what I could imagine w my tour w Erin. She had such a deep passion for sherry and was so knowledgeable about the bodegas, the entire process of making sherry and did the most amazing structured tasting I've had. Highly recommend the Reliquia tasting, which was a real treat. It's very rare that you get a chance to taste such rare sherries with an average age of 150 yrs. Visiting helps you understand how the soul of Spanish wine can be passed down so many generations.
Samuel C — Google review
Excellent tours and nice sellers. When they saw that I had by accident booked for the wrong date, they made no fuss and changed it for the current date. The tour was sold as only in Spanish, but the lovely guide Sandy made the effort explain everything in two languages. Highly recommended.

Big recommendation! We had a great tour in a beautiful bodega with a competent and lovely guide. Thank you very much, Moíses !
Mirko S — Google review
Visit to bodegas barbadillo to have the biologically aged wines tour with Erin and it was such a fantastic experience. The passion and care for sherry wines and in particular manzanilla, a specialty wine of the area/bodega really shone through. It was great to visit the bodega and learn more and the sherry making process, the history of it before heading off to have some tastings. On this tour you really get to experience a full range of biologically aged wines and the subtle difference that a wine can have, for example, depending on its location, age and even the type of wind most present in the bodega in which it is being aged. All of this being explained and curated by Erin, who did a fantastic job of talking us through the wines whilst also managing another group and just generally being fun and passionate about sherry - so thank you very much, we will definitely be recommending this tour to others.

Catherine is a wonderful tour guide! She is very knowledgeable and friendly. She made our group feel welcomed and comfortable by personally speaking with each of us during the tasting and making sure that we understood each step in the production process. I would recommend her tour to everyone!

The Museo de La Manzanilla de Bodegas Barbadillo is a must-visit for those interested in learning about and purchasing sherries like olorosos, manzanillas, and palo finos. The museum is housed in a 19th-century building and offers insights into all aspects of winemaking, from grape cultivation to bottling and marketing.
Brilliant and informative guide. We had to do the Spanish tour but our guide took the time to explain everything in English. We would highly recommend the tour.

We did a 2h tour with wine tasting. Sandy hosted a small group. We live in the west coast and I can assure anyone who has been doing wine tasting and visits in Napa or other places to come here and spend €20. It is so much better and different. You can see how wines that are much more complex and older are made. And you can taste them. Sandy was exceptional. Come!

The burger was cold inside. When I paid attention, they told me that it was supposed to be like that xd They asked if they should make me a new sandwich, but they said that it would also be cold. I also received a different drink than the one I ordered, but I received the correct one as soon as I returned to the service person. Overall fun. I didn't die from a cold sandwich, so I give it +1 star to one. In Poland, the quality of service is much higher, and their wages are certainly lower.

We were served with the most regard to quality. As it showed when the waiter brought us a new beer as he guessed the glass was too hot to bring up the flaiboursof the local brews. The menu was refreshing. The Sanlúcar clay coquinas were outstanding, with a spectacular sauce. The seafood rice was excellent. The pickled tuna was superb, and the cuttlefish were delicious. And what can I say about the chickpeas with menudo? Finger-licking good. Among the weaker dishes, though also good, was the cuttlefish and shrimp salad. But overall, everything was great, the service was friendly and attentive, and the place was very pretty. I'll definitely come back when I return to Sanlúcar. The quality and price are very good. Casa Bigote is a charming spot located in Sanlucar de Barrameda, offering a relaxed atmosphere and serving a variety of seafood dishes and local cuisine. The restaurant is run by the Hermoso family, spanning three generations, adding to its authentic appeal. Visitors can enjoy their meal on the terrace or at the bar while taking in the lively ambiance. The establishment has garnered praise for its succulent and flavorful seafood dishes that are expertly prepared.
The first floor dining room with sea view was amazing. Most dishes were tasty and fresh, but the cooked prawns (langostinos cocidos) were clearly the best.

Get there early to get a place at the bar. No need to reserve at the restaurant to have amazing food. We will go back for the ova and the buñuelos! The prices for the fried fish are really good for the quantity and quality. My wife loved the cazuela and it was so filling!

You can tell how good this place is by the queue for the unbookable outside tapas tables. They get claimed well before the place even opens. We booked ahead and ate in the restaurant. Food was exceptional and service also spot on. Not to be missed if you are in Sanlucar.

Great seafood/produce. We had tomato salad with fresh tuna, the famous Sanlucar shrimp (boiled and eaten cold), mixed fried seafood, and yogurt ice cream. Simple and satisfying.

We sat at the bar and ordered mostly fish tapas as the restaurant was fully booked. We were in Andalucia for 10 days and this was probably the best food we had with amazing value for money. Everything we had was very tasty and the price was almost unbelievably low. 100% recommended.

Very good food. Quality ingredients and produce. Very fine olive oil, and seafood. We repeated on the same trip twice. Try the Cod Burgers, langostinos and Corvina.

The food was incredible. The quality and freshness of the seafood was superb. The service was quick and friendly. And the view is great over the beach and water. We really loved it. Come on time, to avoid waiting lines.

It is a special beach, where you are in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, in Cádiz, but you have in front of you the Coto de Doñana, in Huelva, with its own beach, which you can access by ferry. You find the fishing boats anchored and you see large ships passing by that come from Seville, but their waters are transparent. It has a wonderful gastronomic and festive offer in the bars and restaurants on its promenade, to name a few that I have been to: Joselito Huertas, Casa Bigote, Boteros, Astillero, La Orilla. There is parking next to the promenade, security and garbage. Of course, there are much better beaches in the province of Cádiz. Las Covachas is an impressive historical site that boasts a captivating path along the cliffs. If fortunate enough to time it right with the tides, visitors can venture to Isla de Castro. For those with some physical endurance, ascending further offers a unique vantage point to admire the landscape. However, many settle for admiring the island from a distance. The well-preserved structure showcases striking serpents perched atop its columns, clearly discernible and adding to its charm.

Great service, food and location by the beach! The waiter was very helpful and attentive, the food was excellent! Local fish dishes ( tuna lovers will appreciate) , stews for stew lovers, and the location is the best right by the beach. Good value for money, and plates are quite generous. Poor food and customer service I was served boquerones fritos ( fried anchovies) which were cooked whole but not cleaned. They were fried with the guts still inside. This rendered the dish inedible as the guts were bitter and the taste spread through the fish. When I complained to the waiter I was informed that this is how they cook them in Sanlucar de Barrameda. I have had fried boquerones in every part of Spain and never have I had them served uncleaned with the guts still inside. The waiter did not express any concern or apologize and neither did he offer to replace the dish with something else. I complained to another waiter who said the same thing, did not express concern or offer to knock them off the bill. When I asked another chef the next day if it was normal to serve fried boquerones with the guts inside and he was disgusted. He was actually at the time serving fried boquerones which were cleaned and gutted.

Maybe we just ordered the wrong food but everything we had was not good. Gyoza that was not gyoza. Chilli crab with commercial sweet chilli sauce. Bao that was effectively an egg and bacon sandwich. "Moments" is a fantastic restaurant located in a bustling area of restaurants. The service is top-notch, and the food offers unique flavors and textures. The menu includes generous half portions that blend well together. It's recommended to try the tapas, such as millefeuille of foie gras and assorted croquettes. The staff is friendly, although the service might be a bit slow at times. Additionally, they offer a great selection of beer.
Excellent chef who can use vegetables very well -you just have to ask! Not all speak English there -so get google translate into action and discuss what you could have. We decided to check out this restaurant after seeing it had a discount on the fork and it looked worth the visit. The food wasn't bad but also not amazing but there were some problems that made me understand why all the restaurants around were so crowded and this one was almost empty. 1. We asked for croquetas (a classic) and the waitress explained they would send mixed flavours and asked if we had any allergies or so. We said we didn't like the ones with choco and she assured they didn't even had them. Surprise, surprise; two croquetas with black filling and something that really tasted like choco. I called her asking what taste was that and she said she was pretty sure it was cod fish... Well I come from a fish region and that wasn't cod, the black filling wasn't cod's and it tasted exactly like the choco croquetas we had before and did not like 2. Beers ... Even though they weren't as cold as wished, the best part was when the receipt came and they had a different price from the menu to which the waitress said that those prices were wrong and when June comes The prices change. That said I remind her she didn't tell me any of this and she couldn't sell something which is in the QR code menu she recommended and then say it isn't updated when you finished your meal. Still, I asked if she had an updated menu with the real prices, and she said she did not. So she recommends you an online menu and only tells you the prices are not correct when you have to pay and on the top doenst have any updated menu ? You must be kidding , that's not a serious business

Restaurant
Chiringuito Alfonsito ENTRE DOS AGUAS is a traditional beach bar known for its delicious grilled fish, including fresh catches like sardines, octopus, and cuttlefish. In addition to seafood, they also offer traditional dishes such as fried eggs with shrimp and clam marinara. The restaurant provides excellent service and a welcoming atmosphere that makes visitors feel at home. Guests can enjoy their meals right on the beach, adding to the overall experience.
We arrived there by a local recomendation. The place was awesome, our table was located in the actual beach sand, lovely. The food was simply amazing, we took recommendations from the waiter and it was delightful. I would not order the tortillitas de camarones again, but it is the only but that I can find to this place.

It might be that we came the wrong day and maybe also order the wrong thing, but everything was a disaster. The food was far from being good. Not even close. As an exception the fried sole fish. Service was chaotic and the place is far from being clean. Two stars because of the views, but just that... There things that are unacceptable like the service smoking within the tables. Taking down the face mask, sweeting like pig, and removing the sweat with the polo-shirt. Revolting
Jose V — Google review
We waited for 1h, they gave the table to someone else and barely apologized for it- not even suggesting an alternative while there were free tables inside. The olives that we had while waiting were very average and the staff unresponsive. We even had to ask 5 times to be able to pay before leaving. By far one of the worst experiences i've had on vacation

Veranillo de Santa Ana is a beautifully decorated restaurant offering excellent service and modern dishes with a touch of innovation. The menu features delightful options like arroz negro, jamon de atun, and bombas de carabineros, as well as an extensive wine list. It's recommended to try their spectacular paella-style rices, such as the seafood rice tinted black with cuttlefish ink.
Delightful Culinary Experience in Sanlúcar. My recent dining experience at Veranillo de Santa Ana was exceptional. We were greeted by an inviting and stylish atmosphere that immediately set the tone for the evening. The modern decor with elegant touches perfectly complemented the innovative cuisine, creating a harmonious blend of style and substance. The food was a true masterpiece, not only visually stunning but also bursting with flavor. The presentation was exquisite. Beyond the aesthetics, the taste was divine, leaving our taste buds dancing with delight. Service was impeccable throughout. The staff was attentive, ensuring that every need was met without being intrusive. The ambiance here is something special, striking the perfect balance between relaxed and refined. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy a leisurely meal, savoring every bite, while also feeling like you’re part of something truly special. Extraordinary dining experience that I highly recommend to anyone looking to enjoy a memorable meal in Sanlúcar. We will certainly be returning!

This is a really nice spot. The atmosphere is very good. Good wine selection and food service. The food offer is interesting bridging well classic with new suggestions. They are renown for the rices piglet and lamb but everything in the menu is really good. Totally recommend

This is a really lovely restaurant. Good setting; close to the sea front but not overlooking. We sat on the verandah with the over hanging vines completing the green cocoon. We had the scallops and cod salad which were both delicious and generous portions. One of the fish of the day was sea bass that came filleted and was cooked to perfection. Santiago, our waiter was helpful and made very good suggestions. Finally this is ridiculously good value for money.

It is a very nice place, it's small and quiet and that makes it perfect for when you want a quiet relaxed dinner. The food still needs to be fine-tuned but they have lots of delicious stuff and I am sure that they will continue to improve upon recipes that may not be bestsellers. Definitely a place to try again and experience the evolution of the menu as people shape up what's best.

Day 4

Keep it simple
For day 4, these 4 places should be enough to fill your day with something exciting to do in Sanlucar de Barrameda. Start the day with Castillo De Santiago and make your way through the city to get to Auditorio Manolo Sanlúcar. This should take about 8 hours of your day.

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
In Sanlucar de Barrameda, the Castillo De Santiago stands as a prominent 15th-century castle with a rich historical significance. Built by the Second Duke of Medina Sidonia, it was more of a symbol of power than a military stronghold. Throughout its history, the castle has hosted notable figures such as Isabella of Castille and Ferdinand Magellan. The area around the castle played a significant role in voyages that brought wealth to Spain from the Americas and Asia.
Very beautiful and well maintained castle with a nice view from the tower over the city. We were positively surprised about the opening times (see photo). The entrance fee is 9 Euro per adult. We were not so happy with the audio guide. You have to scan a QR code with your phone but when you want to listen the (too long) explanations, you can't take photos. So you have to choose: guide OR photos. Not smart.
CNX E — Google review
The castle is certainly not as imposing as some we have visited in the area, but it offers a warm welcome at reception., some interesting history and a small museum of costumes and arms. Well worth a look if you're in town
Sarah D — Google review
Beautiful castle in Sanlúcar with interesting history. It costs about €8-€9 per person and they give you the handheld “tour guide” to use while you’re there. You’re prompted by signage to press the applicable number for the area you are walking through and the guide tells you all about it. We went around noon and there was only a few other people there, however parking was still difficult, so I imagine the earlier you get there, the better. My favorite part was the view from the top of the lord’s tower and the mermaid door.
Brisippus — Google review
Starbucks mermaid gate was interesting. Rooftop offered an actual view of the winding river.
Evelyn C — Google review
Super awesome castle that's a must see while in town. There is an audio guide link you can scan and listen to as you walk around. From here a few minutes drive to the beach to see Baluarte San Salvador and the beautiful sunset. Hopefully the city will clean up the Baluarte San Salvador area and preserve the historical significance of it.
Vampire4 U — Google review
Excellent tour! Be sure to bring ear buds so you don't have to blast your phone speaker.
Christoph G — Google review
From the outside and at the entrance we weren't expecting much but this is a great castle to explore! Lots of rooms with interesting maps! Make sure to climb the tower!

El Espejo is a refined dining establishment located in a charming 15th-century palace in Barrio Alto. The restaurant offers an atmospheric setting with various spaces, including a delightful outdoor patio for al fresco dining. Led by chef Jose Luis Tallafigo, the kitchen focuses on showcasing local ingredients with modern cooking techniques. The menu features elevated seafood dishes, risotto, and soups that are expertly prepared and beautifully presented.
Fantastic menu. The food is top quality with balanced flavours. Excellent selection of local wines. Friendly staff. A great choice for casual fine dining in Sanlúcar

Most definitely worth it. El Espejo is a hidden gem in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. We loved every single piece of food that was on our plates tonight, and trust that they are Michelin recognized for a reason! We ordered mackerel (fish) in pea and seaweed puree, cheese board, Sea urchin mousse, grilled red shrimp, Fideua with San Lucar prawns, and Beef cheek with sweet potato puree.

Great lunch on a friday. Salmorejo was very good and the solomillo too. The tuna tartar, in my opinion, was overseasoned. Tuna quality was very good. Service also efficient professional not too stiff or formal. And the wine recommend I enjoyed a lot. The cava could have been colder. The espresso was good to finish it all off. There was no room to try the desert. Perhaps next time.

We very much enjoyed two evenings at this great restaurant, a wonderful space with tables in the courtyard and an inside space both at the front of the restaurant and to the side of the courtyard. The menu is simple, with great local produce and creative cooking. As a lover of Sherry I enjoyed some seriously good wines recommended by the guys who looked after us, including some very limited VOS and VORS wines. The wine list was packed with some super interesting local wines from the Cadiz province as well as some bargains from the classic regions of Spain. Thank you team, we will return.

Nestled in the charming town of Sanlucar de Barrameda, the Palacio de Orleans-Borbón stands as a stunning testament to 19th-century architecture. Originally constructed as a summer retreat for the Dukes of Montpensier, this neo-Mudejar style palace is not only an architectural gem but also serves as the local City Hall today. (Translated by Google) What a joy for the city council, that's how anyone works 😂. How envious of the town hall and its garden. It was beautiful, as well as being a maze. All of Spain should know these beautiful gardens. We were unlucky that a plenary session was being held and we couldn't enter, but it would surely be beautiful inside. But the façade was already spectacular. And for anyone who has questions, it is completely free and you do not need tickets. (It may seem obvious but I say it because I spent hours searching for nothing).

We have been dining at Restaurante Patio la Parra for several years now, every time we visit Sanlucar. The cuisine is exquisite, with generous servings of tapas and exceptional service from the staff. The restaurant itself is charming, spacious, and peaceful, boasting a large interior patio adorned with vines. Additionally, the prices are reasonable and overall it's a definite success.

It wasn't a seafood platter either... And the next dishes from the other people arrive at 4:55, that is, almost 2 hours after ordering... then they tell us that some pieces of grilled squid are coming, which with two per pardon is perfect, they came the size of a finger each…. But now you are going to ask for more because of the little that came and you ask for more things and there were none, in the end they bring us a plate of well-fried anchovies... Casa Ballen is an exceptional bar and grill that offers delicious carrillada. The friendly staff goes above and beyond by providing detailed explanations of the delectable dishes. It's also a fantastic location for observing people as they go about their day. The experience at Casa Ballen is consistently enjoyable, making it a perfect spot to unwind and indulge in some people-watching. Additionally, this bustling establishment serves outstanding breakfast options, although it can get quite crowded and noisy due to its popularity.
When in Sanlucar, be sure to stop here to have some delicious food and a cold Tinto or sherry. The outside seating is lovely, as there are many umbrellas to provide shade from the sun. The service was friendly & efficient and the food is very tasty. I would highly recommend the pimientos fritos!

However, food was so bad, it made wine taste good. Very very disappointed…I do not recommend this place, sorry.

I was very intrigued in this place as I walk by it very often. It has mixed reviews and I am not so sure why. I was honestly left surprised. The prices are great. The portions were even better. I ordered the Revuelto Campero as the first dish and the brocheta de pollo con jamón as my second dish. I think it is important to know that they brought out the vegetables on the brocheta in the most perfect state. It wasn’t burnt, it wasn’t undercooked it had that little bit of char and that little bit of crunch it was just wonderful. Both plates come with bread, drink, and dessert all for €12.50!! It was not that busy when I went. I came around 13:30 on Monday. The food came out quite fast, and the service was great.

Day 5

Off the beaten path
For day 5, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Pinar de la Colonia Monte Algaida.. Not quite as popular as Castillo De Santiago, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 7 hours.

Nature preserve
Pinar de la Colonia Monte Algaida is a nature reserve characterized by vast wooded areas and abundant vegetation. This protected area boasts diverse landscapes, including dense forests, open meadows, and winding rivers. The preserve is home to a wide array of flora and fauna, with numerous species of plants and animals thriving in this natural sanctuary. Pinar de la Colonia Monte Algaida offers visitors the opportunity to explore its picturesque surroundings through well-maintained trails and hiking paths.
Beautiful park, we ran 12km on a rainy afternoon. Very quiet with lots of different trails you can walk, run, or do on motorbike. You could consider this “Sanlucar’s side of Doñana.” Sometimes it’s fun to explore and just get lost in the park. It is not hard to find your way back to the entrance as all you have to do is find the big wide road that runs through the center of the park. If you can I would recommend either bringing or renting a motorbike as that is by far the most fun way to explore the park.

This is a nice place to bring dogs as there are cement paths throughout the forest. The road is dirt and can be a little rough. I parked at the entrance. We started on the cement path there and the circle was about 2 miles. I did not see any bathroom facilities or picnic tables. They may have been available farther down the road.

The blind at the lake’s edge was pretty neat! Lots of waterfowl. The park is a snapshot of Spain from the past- very beautiful! Lot’s of birds and a sandy trail that goes on and on! Would love to have spent more time here but the mosquitos are thick. The road to get to the park entrance is sketchy but lightly traveled

Winery
Bodegas Alonso offers an informative and enjoyable tour and tasting experience in the Cadiz region, providing a stark contrast to larger sherry producer tours. The family-run business is passionate about preserving their culture and producing high-quality sherries. Visitors praise Fernando for his exceptional job at explaining the history and intricacies of the wines. The winery's small batch, independent sherries are highly regarded, with a special mention of the wonderful Manzanilla Velo Flor.
Bodegas Alonso is a wonderful place that stole our hearts from the very entrance. Welcomed by one of the brothers, who are the owners of the Bodega, we were informed that visiting the Bodega was not possible due to the absence of the other brother, who is the only one that guides guests through his sanctuary. However, we were invited inside for a tasting of local specialties. Fernando turned out to be a wonderful host who treated us to wine and stories about the history, his life, and the history of acquiring the vineyard. He agreed to a short tour shortly after finishing work. We returned after an hour and, as it turned out, Fernando kindly and politely guided us through his sanctuary and told us in detail about the wine storage process and the barrels. The visit exceeded our wildest expectations. We recommend everyone to visit this place. Bartosz i Grzegorz from Poland

Wow! I took my friends for the exclusive tasting w Fran. We spent 5 hours tasting sherry's, but more importantly, talking about the history of Sanlucar and it's significance. Fran and his brother are passionate, funny, and care very much about their product and their community. I highly recommend this experience

If you are not into Sherry it’s probably because you haven’t tried these ones. They are amazing, liquid history from a barrel‘s perspective. We had a very inspiring visit to the bodega and took home as many bottles as we could carry.

I visited this winery some time ago, in an amazing private tour going by dozens to over a hundred year old casks. The wines they sell are beyond next level and worth every penny. I am still enjoying their old wine on special occasions, and look forward to order more and taste their manzanilla (as well as the old wines) again as well. My girlfriend who did not like sherry developed a taste for sherry after visiting this winery. Highly recommended.
Michaël G — Google review
My husband and I visited Bodegas Alonso in May 25. It was an amazing experience. The barrels are so old 100 years + that you feel that you are walking amongst history.  It was difficult to comprehend that some of these barrels could have been filled in my great great grandmother's generation. (My mother's mother was born in 1897.) Fernando the cellarmaster gave us a great tour and this tasting was the highlight of our week of sherry tasting in Cadiz province. We study WSET and although had some knowledge of sherry before we came, the tour and tastings that we experienced with Fernando was exceptional. He is so passionate about his work, it's like the barrels are his children. We particularly enjoyed the special Manzanilla Velo Flor that's sold in magnums and the story behind it. It was so sad to hear that it was almost lost because of the yeast dying. I understand completely how Fernando and one of the brother owners were both very worried about it but thank goodness for the steely resolve of the other brother owner, 'the nose' of Alonso who repeatedly said no they should leave it, which they did. However, he was so right to leave it for another 4 to 5 years. It was the best Manzanilla we had tasted! I'm still learning, but to me there is a distinct taste that comes through with many of the Alonso sherries which I started to recognise. As we are learning about wines and sherries, we also particularly enjoyed tasting the differences between 2 neighbouring oloroso barrels from the 1920s both American oak, made at the same time, filled at the same time, with the same harvest and yet the tastes were quite different. THANK YOU FERNANDO for the most amazing tasting that we will always remember.

(Translated by Google) A wide and very special beach, right in front of the Coto de Doñana and the mouth of the Guadalquivir River. The sunset here is one of the most beautiful you can see in Andalusia. The sand is fine, perfect for walking, and the atmosphere is very family-friendly. It also has a unique added value: every summer the famous horse races are held on the beach, a spectacle declared of International Tourist Interest that you can't miss. The best: the nearby beach bars for tapas with good Sanlúcar fish and prawns, and the proximity to the town center. The worst: it gets quite crowded during high season, but it's still worth it. A magical spot to enjoy the sea, the gastronomy, and the history of Sanlúcar. 🌅🐚🐎

Bodegas Argüeso is a wonderful old and characterful bodega in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. We arranged a visit to the bodega and, with couple of other visitors, enjoyed a really personal and comprehensive tour that covered the whole manzanilla production process. Samples of manzanillas and amontillados, of several ages. were provided along the way. The bodega is beautiful and atmospheric, and resides in historic cellars with intriguing stories. I very much recommend a tour of the bodega, and their manzanillas are well worth looking out for too!

We visited the Bodega Argüeso today and are delighted. Our guide Daniel Lopez explained the production process to us in great detail and you could feel the passion and expertise of the winemaker in every moment. The wine tasting was very well organised and we were able to get a very good impression of the really excellent wines. We warmly recommend the visit to everyone.😀

Had a fantastic English language tour and on short notice - thank you for accommodating us. The ownership of (our other favorite Sanlucar producer) Bodegas Yuste purchased Bodegas Argüeso to keep the longstanding brand alive, and well that they did so given the quality and heritage of these wines. The building was once part of the next door church and still shares a wall lending a historical feel to the tour while sipping delicious manzanillas and amontillados. Bottle prices are incredibly affordable for the age and complexity of some wines. Don’t miss trying Bodegas Yuste products here too.

I visited here this evening whilst on holiday in SanLuca..... It is definitely worth a visit. The Manzanilla "E" is awesome!! We bought a litre to take home..... I tried the Pedro Ximenez sweet wine........ it had the most delicious aroma!!! You could smell crushed fruits...... and it was the sweetest, most delicious sweet wine I have ever tried. We also bought a litre of that to take home!!! Definitely visit this bodega if you are lucky enough to find yourself in San Luca 😁

We had a wonderful 1h15min (private, because off season) tour with guide Javier who spoke perfect English. The wine tasting was in several sites at the bodega between the barrels, that made it special! We had 5 tastings of wines and Manzanilla (local sherry wine) for 15€ p.p. and the information provided was in balance with the tasting. Couldnt wish for anything better. Double plus: we could bring our small dog. Ask in advance, because with a big group and/or a big dog it might not be possible. Bravo!

The Palacio ducal de Medina Sidonia, a Renaissance-style palace built in the 16th century, served as the residence for an important noble family. (Translated by Google) I went with my partner and my 7-month-old baby in a stroller. I bought the tickets online through the website for €10.99 each. When we arrived, they told us we couldn't bring the stroller in, and that we had to carry the baby in our arms. At no point on the website does it say that the site isn't accessible to disabled people or that strollers are prohibited. I politely explained, and the very rude lady told me that's the way it is, that we should bring the baby in our arms and that if we got tired after 10 minutes, we could leave. Obviously, I told her that if I had known that, I wouldn't have gone to the tour, so I didn't want to attend, and that we wanted our money back. She rudely gave me €20 when it was €22 and told me she didn't know where I bought the tickets and that everyone pays €10. She rudely and yelled at us for the remaining €2. Finally, the situation ended this way. It was a very unpleasant time due to the poor manners and lack of professionalism. It's a shame.

We were lucky enough to be accompanied by Pepe, who was not only incredibly friendly but also explained with great clarity and passion the entire history of Manzanilla, the biological aging process, and the winery. It's clear he truly lives what he's talking about, and that makes the experience even more special. The facilities are beautiful, traditional, and very well-maintained, with that unique atmosphere only found in Sanlúcar wineries. Walking among the casks while they taught us about the "velo de flor" (a type of wine) and the importance of the westerly and easterly winds was a true history and oenology lesson. The tasting at the end was the icing on the cake: elegant Manzanillas with character, and that saline touch so unique to Sanlúcar. We especially loved the Manzanilla Soluqua, complex and very expressive. A highly recommended experience for anyone who wants to truly understand the soul of Sanlúcar. I have been to many beach bars and they have two things in common: perfect location and bad reviews. This one was a nice surprise: perfect location and perfect food! The attention of the waiters was great as we had a baby and made a lot of mess but they were very helpful ! Excellent !

Leaving a 5 star review because of the service. Although I only had an iced coffee my dog was dying of thirst and the waiter went out of his way to get him a huge bowl of water. For that these guys deserve 5/5 because they didn’t have to yet they made my experience 10 times better.

Amazing location by the beach, great food with a modern/fusion touch that also applies to breakfast offerings

Been here twice, very pleased both times. Had the choco and pressa iberico. What a way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Classy, all glass place on the beach, close to the feria grounds. Cold, inexpensive beer. Somewhat pricey but delicious food. I'll be back.

We had been out and about so we're not in our fancy clothes but we had plenty of €€ to spend!!! Poor service and very high price for the fish we got (50€)!!!!! We had to ask everytime we wanted something and because we lack in the Spanish speaking the waiter really got mad at the end when I asked for the check. He kept yelling what do you want!!!! Definitely not going to spend any more of our hard earned €€ there!! Just up the road are 3 restaurants with super friendly people willing to work with translation.

Seafood restaurant
Restaurante El Colorao is a canteen-style eatery in the Old Town of Sanlucar. It offers generous servings of fried or grilled fish and steak amidst a nostalgic ambiance with vintage posters. With its long-standing history, captured through photographs of celebrities and bullfighters on display, the bar exudes traditional charm. Despite its popularity, this place remains affordable while delivering excellent quality seafood. The menu may be limited, but the dishes are expertly prepared using fresh local ingredients.
Terrific Sunday lunch spot. It was absolutely ram packed so it was good that we had reserved the day before. Superb range of dishes - mostly fish but some good looking meat too.

Such a nice place, fresh fish and seafood, there are vegetarian and meat meals also! So delicious! Especially that green sauce (salsa verde) is so good! Bread and olives cost 1,5€ to have it before food is there. Service is super fast. They also serve desserts and coffee. Place is a must visit.

If you are looking for a 100% original Spanish culinary experience, this is the place to go. The food is fresh and specific to Andalusia, the atmosphere is 100% Spanish as I didn't see any tourists there in December and the restaurant was full, we were lucky to find a table (it was a holiday). The service was very quick...we ordered and within 10-15 minutes we had our order.

Honest and fresh food. Traditional and well prised. Definitely worth a visit.

Amazing pescao frito (fried fish), not much space outside, but the staff is kind (although not enough employees). They were missing some basic dishes, so check the menu if you’re looking for a specific thing before going.

The cheapest sea food and fish restaurant in Sanlucar. Great value for your money. Despite being very popular prices the quality is still excellent! Great service too. In the Summer months and weekends is a bit packed.

Mediterranean restaurant
Puerta de la Victoria is a newly recommended bar located just a short walk from the main square. The traditional yet unpretentious decor features wood, sherry casks, and an array of glasses and bottles. There's also a charming terrace on the pedestrian street outside.
These are the types of places I just love reviewing. I was looking for a quiet place to have lunch and I found this gem. I don’t know the name of my waiter but he did a great job 10/10 service. The food took me by surprise, the avocado with prawns tapa was tasty, and the chicken with provolone was also nice on my tastebuds, whatever tomato sauce they used made it 10x better and the provolone couldn’t have come out at a better heat. The tacos go for €10 for 2 which might make you second guess ordering them but those also took me by surprise. They had a very generous amount of meat apart from being good, the only thing that was missing is a little peace of lime to squirt on the tacos. Price for food was also great.

Good food, great wine, efficient service

Lovely place to have tapas. Acedias and corvina are my recomendación. Staff was friendly and server quickly. It is normally packed un peka times.
Angel L — Google review
Nothing terrible but extremely average - especially compared to the good experiences at Casa Balbino next door. Nothing we got here was particularly good, everything felt a little sloppy. The food quality and care were quite below what the menu design and other visuals might suggest.
Julliard — Google review
Great food with a modern twist on traditional tapas. Fewer plants compared to bars in the square meant that we didn't see a mosquito all evening.

My favourite restaurant in Sanlucar. A great menu with Quality food, well cooked And never greasy like a lot of the restaurants in town.
