Port of Royan is a fantastic destination with a beautiful beach and stunning port. The area offers green spaces near the beach, plenty of public toilets, and ample car parking close to the town center and beach. Visitors can enjoy reasonably priced restaurants, shops selling various items, and friendly locals. In the evening, the place becomes even more enchanting with ancient buildings and nice pubs. Families will appreciate the playground for kids while cafes offer delicious treats like croissants and quiches.
Very beautiful place, especially in evening... Many ancient buildings and nice pubs. Nice playground for kids to play. A lot of good cafes where you can drink coffee or hot chocolate and eat croissant or quiche ❤️ If u wish u can rent here a bicycle and ride around the town to see it's beauty 💓

I had a great time. The rain did try to ruin it a bit but overall the beach was the best for me.

Fantastic place. Beautiful beach and a stunning port. Green areas available close to the beach. Several public toilets available across the beach front. Plenty of car parking spaces close to the town centre/beach area. Loads of facilities available from many reasonably priced restaurants to every shop available e.g. clothes, games, newsagents. Great for tourists and the locals are very friendly. Would recommend planning your route before entering the town centre/use sat nav. Easy road access and cycle bike friendly.

Super good food. The restaurant was clean, cozy and super friendly staff. The owner even came out to talk to us. The chicken and green curry dish, was excellent. The toilet was clean and fresh. Definitely worth a visit if you want good quality food.

Amazing location right in the fishing and ferry port with a great outside terrace for sunny days. Fresh seafood platters but also some Moroccan dishes. Menu du jour available at lunch time with plates available a la carte.
Anu R — Google review
We really enjoyed dining at your restaurant. Soupe de poison, huitres, noix St. Jacques and Tagine were excellent. Good wine selection. Nice ambience and super view of the marina.
Alan J — Google review
Despite booking a table on the terrace we were encouraged to eat inside, where we were alone on a small table for most of the meal,. Outside tables were available for regulars and the atmosphere there seemed buzzy. It did become busier inside as we were leaving. Our previous experience eating here was much better so we would eat here again.

Small restaurant @ Royan yacht port. Very creative chef - fish combinations I never tasted before. Nice views from the terrace. Walters where young and un experienced but did their best. Covid-19 measures where correctly applied.
Bob B — Google review
Lovely seaside restaurant with the care taken to produce top quality food at a reasonable cost. For the price of 21euro I had the couscous tagine with three meats. When it arrived I was taken aback at the size of the meal for one. In the end my wife helped me to finish it off. Topped off with a bottle or wine. Hats off to the owner.

Plage de la Grande-Conche is a stunning, expansive beach that stretches over 2.5 kilometers of soft, fine sand, making it the perfect destination for sunbathing or leisurely strolls along the shore. This south-facing beach is not only protected from the wind but also features shallow waters that are ideal for swimming and playing in the surf without venturing too deep too quickly. Visitors can enjoy a variety of amenities including rental umbrellas, tents, and chairs to enhance their beach experience.

Large and wide beach with fine sand and nice walking and biking paths. On the other side you can enjoy great oldstyle villas and a few superb new ones too.

Miles of beautiful white sand, with picturesque blue and white tents to hire. Massive plus point was free WiFi on the beach. Would recommend as a lovely day out with the family, definitely a place to relax for an day, or even just an afternoon.
Ollie G — Google review
Excellent beach. Sand is very flat under the water so there’s a lot of space to play in the surf without going too deep too quickly. Very warm too.

Church
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Église Notre-Dame de Royan is a striking example of post-war architecture, rebuilt in the 1950s using fast concrete after the town was heavily bombarded in 1945. Architect Guillaume Gillet incorporated V-shapes into the main structure to symbolize victory. While it may seem imposing from the outside, its interior reveals elegant geometric shapes, curved lines, and beautiful light play. The church's poured concrete construction allows colored light panels to create stunning effects.
A big surprise inside. We saw the rather stark looking building from the town but didn't go to it. Thst evening I was reading about the architecture and saw some photos from the interior so went back to see inside the following day. It's an amazing construction built completely from poured concrete. The unusual angles allow the coloired light panels to create some amazing affects. There are often musical events held there which I think would be fantastic to attend.
Penny L — Google review
What a fabulous church! If brutalism is your bag (and I'd argue even if it isn't) you are going to be wow-ed by the scale and feel of this holy space. So many details from the 3D stained glass windows to the thoughtfully designed walkways and staircases. Royan is a lovely place but it would be worth visiting for this church alone!
Grounded M — Google review
Stunning brutalist church overflowing with character and style. It is hard to really describe how imposing and impressive it is to see a tall concrete structure like this. Really dominates the attention. The inside reveals an almost unreal mix of the stark concrete and and fine details, the way they worked in the windows and stained glass makes it pop and also fit in with the bland gray. Europe is full of impressive churches and cathedrals but this one stands alone as unique.
Christopher C — Google review
What a stunning cathedral which takes the shaoe of a very large ship in the seaside town of Royan. The reinforced concrete monument is thus part of the general movement for the renewal of sacred art after the sad events experienced by the world in the 1940s. It is considered today as a feat and a masterpiece.
Robyn B — Google review
Weird church rebuilt after WWII by using poured concrete.
Billy I — Google review
Beautiful architecture, i've never seen a church like that before. Worth visiting.
Joan — Google review
As we approached from a side street it looked more like a grain silo, but once round the corner we could see some styling. Inside it is easy to forget it made from concrete, the windows and space worked well together
Tony B — Google review
At first instance seems a bit odd from outside, real spiritual atmosphere inside, great morning office

Big covered market selling local produce including meat, seafood, cheese, breads and patisserie, fruit and veg, local wine, cognac etc. outside stalls also selling cloths, jewelry also. Well worth a visit....

Just amazing. If you like food, you must visit. Fabulous fresh produce, great seafood, including stalls selling fresh oysters to eat there. A great experience and not overly expensive
Danny K — Google review
Brilliant market with semi permanent sites inside and plenty on the outside. Food we bought was brilliant. Some of the quality of the bits outside was a bit low.
Josh S — Google review
Beautiful market with fresh regional meat, fish, fruit and produce. Prices are competitive with supermarkets and the staff is very friendly. I highly recommend the fruit stand and the huitres!
Dimitri — Google review
I like the design of their covered market. Many selections of fresh seafoods and fresh local produce.
Joan — Google review
Probably the coolest town market I've ever seen. Looks like a giant clamshell made of concrete. Inside is a bustle of activity with many local, fresh products for sale. We bought some coffe and the vendor was super enthusiatic about his product and informative about it's origins. There was a Sunday market going on outside around the structure. Really cool from an architecture and shopping viewpoint, recommend a stop.

Nestled away from the bustling beachfront, Le Cabestan offers a warm and authentic dining experience that feels like a beacon of comfort. The welcoming staff is attentive and accommodating, ensuring that every guest feels right at home. Diners can expect fresh dishes crafted from quality ingredients at reasonable prices, with options available for various dietary needs. Many visitors have enjoyed delightful meals here, often highlighting the professionalism and kindness of the waitstaff.
This is a delightful restaurant serving great food at a reasonable price with a great service. Our waiter was charming, very efficient and allowed me to order with poor French with grace and patience. There was plenty of space for our two small dogs to lie beside the table on the cool wooden decking. The atmosphere was relaxed, very comfortable and made even better as you overlook the harbour. Wheelchairs and mobility scooters have open access to the tables. I have no hesitation in recommending this lovely restaurant whether you just want a drink, snack or full meal.

Ordered 2 mojitos and a portion of french fries (chips)... The mojitos came after 10 minutes... The mint was not fresh at all... Tre mojitos tasted dubious at best.... After 35 minutes we got fed up waiting for the french fries paid for the mojitos and left. Won't be going back there. There was anew w as waiter there.. Just started the job... He was helpful+ pleasent.. Not his fault.Note: Lots of others where served during this time.. Even with french fries...

(Translated by Google) Excellent service, all the staff we encountered were very pleasant and kind. We had a very good meal, with seafood platters, mussels with gorgonzola, mussels with goat cheese and pasta, and steak for the children. However, we found the main courses/desserts a bit pricey. But the location was great, right on the harbor, and the wine was good. (Translated by Google) A restaurant that initially looked promising but ultimately disappointed me. The food was excellent, but the wait between courses spoiled the enjoyment of such good food. Not to mention, hearing two of the waitresses argue every time they passed each other seriously ruined the meal. Despite that, the mussels were really good, as was the pinsa. The mixed sharing platter was a bit pricey for what you got, but it was good.

Nestled just a stone's throw from the iconic Notre-Dame church, L'éclosion is a charming eatery that celebrates the bounty of the sea with its traditional seafood offerings. The menu is entirely homemade and seasonal, showcasing local produce alongside delectable dishes like sea bass and langoustine. The ambiance captures the essence of maritime life, with decor reminiscent of a ship’s deck—perfectly fitting for its coastal location.
If you are looking for great value, for money, this IS the place. Cosy ambiance with tastefully decorated seaside theme at its best. Open kitchen where you are be assured of hygiène. 2 waiters who respond rapidly and courteously. RSVP needed as this place was full when we were there for lunch today. 3-course menu at 19€ with "amuse bouche" before starters and mignardises after desserts, all inclusive in the menu. We ordered à 50cl bottle of chardonnay at 13€. Very satisfied and absolutely delighted of our lunch. We have had 3 great meals within 2 days outside the hotel where we resided in Royan, this one stands out! Check this out folks, you won't be disappointed.

This place has a prime location with a great view. The menu is attracting and the staff is very friendly. The only problem is that our food was average. The beef patty was not cooked enough (even though they put the "well done" tag on it) and I couldn't finish my Caesar salad as there was way too much dressing. We might try something else and modify the review if we get better quality next time.

Very disappointing service. Table offered with crumbs and inattentive service. The waitress was oblivious to the contents of the menu and the chef had left at 10pm. Gravalax Salmon was cube cuts of salmon without seasoning or herbs. The 'Manager's intervention lacked any care and manners. Dommage - we will never return again despite being regulars in the town. The first one deals with cheaper meals like hamburgers, fish, spaghetti etc but the restaurant is in a really beautiful setting with a view of the beach and sea from most table settings. The meals are changed, I think on a daily basis and up to the standard you would expect from the chef who worked on a cruise ship and the price is very reasonable around €25 for three courses plus amuse bouche during the service. The price goes up on weekends so unless it's a special day visit during the week

La Jabotiere was as wonderful as ever. The food is a delight, well balanced and a work of art. The staff are so professional and friendly. I can find no fault with this dining experience and would recommend the restaurant and the bistro attached to anyone wanting a good meal in wonderful surroundings and good value for money

For day 2, we recommend exploring the center side of town. Start the day off with Planet Exotica, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Le Chay. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Planet Exotica, also known as Exotic Planet, is a zoological and botanical garden located in Royan, Charente Maritime. Spanning over 7 hectares, it features exotic animals such as snakes, crocodiles, alligators, and even life-size dinosaur models. The park also boasts an impressive variety of plant life including bonsai trees and millenary olive trees. Visitors can enjoy a fun and educational experience while exploring the diverse flora and fauna.
It's a magical place with beautiful gardens and a variety of reptiles to have a close encounter with. There are also friendly alpacas, horses, goats and cute little bunnies jumping around. Hours of pleasant strolling. I especially liked the zen garden with an impressive collection of bonsai trees.

Wasn't expecting much when we planned our visit but it's really well layed out with plenty to see. The kids enjoyed it as well as feeding the goats. We were here 3 to 4 hours

It was a great day out, our 6 yr old twins really enjoyed the mixed bag of attractions (reptiles, spiders, dinosaur models, Indian teepes, goats to cuddle, trampoline). We spent around 4 hours and just wish we had taken a picnic as there was a very comfortable seating area for that. We paid an extra 3€ for the goats feed which was worth it.
Alexx L — Google review
Great day out for the family. Fantastic collection of reptiles and a great garden/park walk that winds its way around the lakes full of ducks, fish and otters. The park has piles of dinosaur models, some interactive. Included in the price is a small go-cart course at the far end of the garden and trampolines at the end of the route. A mini farm of goats and alpacas too. You can also see the breeding tanks with baby snakes etc. It also has a nice chill out area with a snack bar near the end of the route. A really excellent day out - good luck getting the kids out of the gift shop!
Andrew A — Google review
Wonderful place, huge, can take all day. The reptiles were lovely and there were expansive gardens. Huge grounds and diverse activities. Four stars because not sure about the racist/imperialist shrunken heads and the brownface spectacles. That was dated and culturally insensitive, especially with the emphasis on cannibaliam.

Great value spent hours there ,plenty ro see and do

Very nice, beautiful place with dinosaurs and Indian village, and living reptiles. Nuggets and fried potatoes are delicious!
Guclu O — Google review
Nice combination of zoo, park and dinosaur exhibition. Lots of small interesting touches, like a Japanese garden with a few bonsai, a bamboo forest, koi carps. Try the paddle boat tour if you have some time. Great day out with kids. But bring your own packed lunch, as the snack bar has very slim pickings.

Nestled in the heart of Royan, La Table Notre Dame stands out as a beacon of elegance and culinary finesse among the local dining scene. This charming restaurant reimagines traditional French cuisine while honoring classic techniques that have made it famous. Guests can indulge in a delightful array of freshly caught seafood, including mouthwatering mussels and oysters, all beautifully presented on their plates. The inviting terrace offers a perfect setting to enjoy your meal alongside an impressive selection of wines that complement each dish perfectly.
We are in Royan for a week and was looking forward to this restaurant after reading all the reviews. The menu is the same price for lunch and dinner which is rare in France. Many restaurants charge higher for dinners even if they served the same menu for lunch. However La Table de Notre Dame charges 16€ for a 2-course and 19€ for 3-course for lunch and dinner. Rsvp recommended . If you have a food allergy it is best to warn them ahead when you rsvp. Parking is relatively easy. Restaurant is located in front of the cathedral Notre Dame hence the name of the restaurant. Restaurant is very clean, well spaced in between the tables, view of the cathedral if you are seated by the window. The owners are very friendly we were warmly greeted and seated rapidly after the covid hygienic measures. My partner ordered the menu while I had the ris de veau which was extremely fresh and cooked to perfection. Both of us were absolutely happy with our choices. Highly recommended! Definitely will return!

The place is simple, clean, and charming, with a simple and refined atmosphere that invites relaxation. In terms of food, the special menu and the pleasure menu were a real success. The welcome was warm and just right: professional yet relaxed, with a friendly and humorous owner who adds a nice touch of conviviality. The value for money is remarkable. We recommend this place without hesitation, whether for a romantic meal or a family getaway. We will definitely return whenever we have the opportunity! Le Chay Beach in Royan, France is a stunning sandy beach with clear waters and breathtaking views. The bright and stylish Le Chay restaurant offers a seafront terrace where visitors can enjoy delicious seafood dishes like oysters, fish, and lobster flambéed with cognac. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff make it a perfect spot for a relaxing day by the sea. Guests can savor grilled cuttlefish with homemade aioli while enjoying the beautiful view of the beach from the terrace.
Beautiful little cove, the terasse is perfect for a cozy apéro, surrounded by greens and view on the beach. The food is tasty with good portions and beautiful on the eye :-) My favorite is the 'seiche' (cuttlefish) grilled on the plancha with a good serving of homemade aïoli. Finish the night with a sip of rhum arrangé... flavoured in house.

Location the restaurant is very nice, the staff is very friendly and the food is delicious. Only downfall was that the oysters weren’t shucked properly (from the side causing shell pieces to be inside) and the oysters itself weren’t disconnected from the bottom shell which is unusual. Would definitely come back!

(Translated by Google) On a recent summer evening, my group of friends and I discovered a true culinary treasure. The meagre ceviche immediately captivated our palates with its vibrant freshness. Followed by crayfish pasta bathed in a creamy bisque, each dish was a work of art. The ikejime tuna, pink and golden, amazed us with its tenderness and rich flavor. We particularly appreciated the limited selection of products on the menu, which ensures excellent quality and fast service. The price was very reasonable considering the quality of the products. Set menus are available in the evening. The array of desserts crowned our meal: the white chocolate mousse was light and delicate, like the strawberry purée; while the gourmet chocolate fondant was a pure delight. The surprise appetizers, including a carrot espuma flavored with oregano, added a touch of originality to our experience. The service, both discreet and warm, was remarkably efficient. The restaurant's interior is splendid, and the terrace offers a pleasant ambiance for enjoying the evening. This experience was much more than just a meal: a celebration of the senses. For a memorable evening, this is the place not to be missed! A very poor meal. Fish dishes were exceptionally disappointing. Odd mussels in jelly that were terribly under-seasoned. Overcooked fish, slow and erratic service. Very average dessert - sweet with no balance. Maybe Covid staffing issues? We had to return two John Dory main courses as they were inedible. The fish was so dry the skin was baked into the flesh, and the dish covered in undressed uncooked spinach leaves and raw pumpkin seeds, as if the fish was too shameful to be on display. At the end of the meal the manager suggested we didn’t know how John Dory should be cooked! Woeful customer service at a level of the cooking Book Les Filets Bleus or Boulevard 45, you won’t be disappointed

My wife and I are lucky to live not far from L'Avocette and have been going there regularly since it first opened. The food, service and atmosphere are consistently excellent and the prices are fair and reasonable especially given the high standards that Isabelle, Laurent and Jeremy maintain. Of the family and friends we have taken over the years not a single one has been disappointed and all ask to return every time they visit us. If L'Avocette was in London or Paris there would be a four month waiting list to reserve and the prices would be four times as high.

Le Petit Bouchon is a charming restaurant located in Royan, France, offering beautifully presented French cuisine. The retro-style space provides a colorful and vibrant atmosphere with marina views from the deck. The restaurant has been recently renovated to feature stunning cobalt blue tie-dye walls, Babel D furniture, and powder pink cushions.
An absolute delight. We wanted a quick lunch as we had spa treatments scheduled at 2 pm. After reading the reviews on this restaurant we decided to give it a go. The weather was lousy between dark clouds and rain we still wanted to be on the deck. We were warmly greeted and seated quickly explaining that they can move us in case it rains. We decided on the set lunch. Menu for 3-course at 28€ and 20€ for 2-course. I chose the fresh oysters for starters with a supplement of 4€, my partner chose "gravalax de saumon" (marinated fresh salmon) with guacamole ice-cream and mango puree or chutney. I forgot to take a picture of the menu of the day! Both starters were delicious! I chose the grilled bonito tataki with a sweet potato puree which was excellent. My partner chose the rayfish which was cooked to perfection with capers and had fresh Granny Smith apples spread on the fish. Needless to say he couldn't resist the dessert a sabayon with salted butter caramel. If you are looking for a beach front (view of the port), a creative and excellent chef at very reasonable prices, I recommend this restaurant highly.

I do not understand the positive reviews for this restaurant. While the atmosphere was nice, the food was very subpar. The 4 of us got different dishes (the ray, the risotto, the squid). All meals were pretty blend or overly salty. We ordered the strawberry crumble which happened to only be a stack of cut strawberries with some crumbs on them, not a cake at all. Service was ok but nothing outstanding. The oyster restaurant next door (oyster 13 I believe) looked a lot better, will try it next time.
Stéphane O — Google review
Great food, let down by stingy service for condiments and excessive foam on draft beer head. Having had a couple of dodgy meals elsewhere we were very pleased to have eaten at the le Petit Bouchon, although a little pricey the food was really well cooked and was presented with imagination which made for a great experience. If good food is what you’re looking for this place is a safe bet indeed. However, when asking for tomato sauce for my sons chips getting more than 1 packet at a time was a struggle and someone should tell the barman to serve beer without a large head(3+ inches is excessive for a 500ml in my opinion), however both these are minor annoyances and Le Petit Bouchon has a lot to offer for sure. 4stars

There's something fishy about the card shuffling machines at the Blackjack tables here I play casually, since I know that the house always has an edge, so I treat the visit here as a fun time-out and don't expect to win money But the hands the dealers had compared to most players at the tables give the impression that the game might be rigged in the house's favor, as what I've experienced is statistically improbable over the hundreds of hands I've seen. The dealer seems to hit 20 and 21 very often, and players seem to get low cards very often as well when the dealer has an ace or 10. He would also rarely bust. If this happens every now and then it's fine, it's just statistics. But if it happens on average 7 out of 10 hands over a 100 hands, it doesn't add up. It could just be pure luck, but there were other shady occurrences I noticed here... Part of the reason I dislike automatic shuffling machines, but obviously the casino prefers them so that they don't have to deal with card counters That being said, the staff themselves are very friendly and the overall atmosphere is nice, it's just that losing so often and so frequently discourages me from ever setting foot here again

COOLONGALOOK Adventure Park offers an exhilarating experience with aerial rope trails set in a lush forest, catering to both kids and adults. The park features various height levels for different age groups and includes thrilling zip lining activities. Additionally, the park provides entertainment for children with attractions like a Ferris wheel and a Belle-Epoque carousel during specific months. Visitors appreciate the efficient online booking system and commend the English-speaking staff for their excellent safety briefing.
My husband [60yrs] and I [54 yrs] decided to do the Grand Parcours trail. It was fantastic fun. What an adrenaline rush! You are provided with a harness and must watch a video which is really clear about what happens on your day, how to use the equipment and what not to do. You then are briefed by one of the staff members and have a tester go on a mini course on hooking up to a wire and walking along a platform; this gives you a bit of confidence and an understanding of using the equipment. The staff provided excellent customer service and their English is definitely better than my French. We started at level 1, it's a relatively lower height course, which includes nets, wooden platforms and stairs. Once you get the hang of it you're ready to go. The rest of the levels get more challenging and include brilliant zip lines, where you rush through the air supported by your harness. The guide helping us through the courses was amazing, he was encouraging, supportive and praised our achievements. He clearly explained a more difficult part of the course ensuring everyone felt confident to have a go, and watched the group checking everyone was ok. We also observed him going up the tree to help a boy who had frozen in fear on a section of the course, and again a small child by taking her across a little bit of a junior course. He helped us when we had a wobble too. Definitely recommend trying this. It's a lot of fun. I am not the fittest of people but managed to do it all -even though Im aching now though. Thanks to all for making this a wonderful membrane party of our trip. I recommend bringing water to drink and cover yourself in mosquito repellent!

Came here with my 8yo and we did the medium and hard courses. Staff were all very good and helpful and cheerful, with excellent English and patience with the kids! The hardest course was the first time I've ever done a ropes course that challenged me. It was a good choice on the hottest day of our holiday, because of the shade in the forest. There are plenty of benches to sit on if you're just watching, and spectators can follow around on foot. Definitely recommend as we had a lot of fun. It is also very good value for money.

Lovely place nestled in the forest just like Go-Ape. Plenty of courses for children and adults with a couple of nerve testing drops. The staff spoke excellent English and played the instructional/safety briefing in English too. Our kids did a mixture of Laser-tag with us two parents and then the Junior and adult courses and it came to 90€ which compares favourably to Go-Ape back home. Toilets on site thankfully as it kept our kids entertained for about 3.5 hours. Would recommend 👍
Kev H — Google review
We had a really good morning here the staff are extremely friendly, their English was excellent, didn't catch the guys name but he had long hair and encouraged the children brilliantly. The girl on reception was really helpful, we had booked dour 2 oldest children on the big course but thought the others would be on their own so booked dthe nets instead for them and ourselves. The girl at the desk suggested our 2nd youngest would maybe prefer the climbing as the nets wouldn't be much for him to do and he was able to join the others. The firl advised that actually one of us didn't need to pay for the nets as our daughter is only 5 and refunded us the difference. Children all really enjoyed us and loved it!
Lorna H — Google review
Arrived about 10 when there were other groups arriving but only brief wait to get in having per booked on line. I am writing in English because I want to thank the young team for their command of the language and the excellence of the safety briefing they gave my grandchildren aged 8 &11. They loved the whole experience especially the zip wires and coped with the age appropriate obstacles very well - just the right amount of challenge. They're already asking when we can come back. PS They said it was better than the one near Marennes!
Bill H — Google review
Great obstacles that were scary, challenging and fun. Easy continuous safety system and extra carabiner for safety. The grand course took us around 3 1/2 hours. There are goat wondering round the park and sometimes sitting on the platforms and tables. Will we definitely be coming back.
Trish A — Google review
Excellent time at the park. The challenges were varied, interesting and scary, but most importantly, safe - perfect for the parcour experience of one adult and two boys. The staff were friendly, attentive and ensured we had a great time. Would highly recommend.
Mr Y — Google review
We were a group of 5 (2 adults and 3 teenagers) and had a great morning. It was a hot day but the forest canopy kept us cool. The course got progressively harder and the adults definitely has a few aching muscles the next day! They could do with a couple of water points on the course. We were stuck behind a school group which was frustrating at the start but managed to overtake them.

Nestled between the serene forest and the sparkling ocean, Camping Les Chevrefeuilles offers a tranquil escape in nature. Spanning two hectares of untouched countryside, this charming campsite is just a short drive from beautiful beaches. Guests can choose from various accommodations, including traditional tent pitches or modern bungalows that provide comfort and convenience. The site features an inviting heated swimming pool, sports fields for active fun, cycle tracks for exploration, and a playground to keep the little ones entertained.
2 night stay in 2 bedroom mobile home. Campsite staff very helpful, with 1 person speaking english. Mobile home absolutely spotlessly clean, with very comfortable double bed. Campsite is very quiet with good privacy between units. Didn't use the site facilities as we dined out. Would definitely use this site again.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAMPERVAN HERE. I was left extremely disappointed after booking a camp space. The camping space was very small and expensive. It was completely in the Sun and offered no shade at all in near 40 degrees. I had an animal and it I asked to move it to a shaded site/part of the facilities, I was told no, despite guests parking their cars there. I was offered little assistance by the staff. I am extremely disappointed. The camping ground is also not catered for campervan/motorhomes as the pathways are extremely narrow and you will scratch your van trying to navigate around. All in all we stayed 1 hour and had to leave the place. We asked for a cancellation as I had purchased a cancellation fee but was told no as it’s only in the case of extreme emergencies such as death.

Lovely town, beautiful beach, relaxing walk along the sea shore. The restaurant was busy, obviously very popular with the locals, which is always a good sign. It didn’t disappoint, a wide variety of dishes available on the menu and as you’d expect a wine menu to match. Right on the front, easy parking when we visited (October). The service was excellent, the waiters and waitresses were very helpful and friendly. It was so nice sat in the autumn sun, facing west with the warm sun beating down on us. Would happily eat here again, not expensive. The restaurant has a similar number of tables inside as they do outside on the promenade. When we visited the outside tables were favoured, with the majority of the clientele basking in the sun. The road at the front wasn't particularly busy when we visited and it certainly didn't detract from our meal. The staff were busy yet we weren't rushed. Our meals were impeccably served and presented. Have a look at some of the other photos on the Google reviews, the photos aren't staged, the food really was well presented. The town was very clean, bright and it didn’t appear to have been hit hard by the economic turn-down of recent years. A lovely afternoons visit.

I went there with my wife for lunch and it was a very pleasant experience. The waiter were quick to come to get our order, explain well the menu ( quite a few options and specials to explain). The apero was served quickly with the usual peanuts. Food was very good. I'm a big fan of beef tartare and I tried the "asian style" one. Well very prepared, nice spice. Quite a change from the usual one. My wife loved her shirashi. Definitely inspired by asian flavour, it is a change in Royan compared to the usual offer. I will have to come back to try few more item on the menu that seemed good.

Wow a lovely dinner! We arrived just in time for the gorgeous sunset! Everyone was very friendly and eager to make our experience one to remember. We both got menus. Great options for entree, plat and dessert. We both ordered fish for our main plates. It was perfectly cooked, seasoned and accompanied with just the right amount of vegetables and carbs. I'd highly recommend this restaurant for the view and the food!

Lovely table with a unique viewpoint on the bay of Royan. It is a true institution with excellent menu, great seafood. It is fairly low key, quite understated, with an aging vibe but it is lovely. We appreciate also the the little outdoor bar down with amazing view and come every year.

We have know this place for a while, and we have been there now several times. We just didn't liked it today, the food just wasn't good, the entree was way to cold and came definitely right out off the frige. And the fries weren't crispy at all. And either the meat wasn't good or they need to sharpen their knives. The service wasn't any better. After half an hour they kept asking are you finished, after a couple times with the same answer they wouldn't help us any more. We sat with our dirty disch(clearly that we were finished) for over half an hour. At the moment we had to pay the server did not make any eye contact anymore. And she slammed the receipt on the desk and we walked a way. ⚠️I WOULD NOT GO THERE ANYMORE⚠️

(Translated by Google) A superb jet ski experience, professionally and courteously supervised We were fortunate enough to participate in a one-hour jet ski session on May 31st at 9:00 a.m., departing from Saint-Georges-de-Didonne. The activity took place in changeable but perfectly controlled weather conditions, with overcast skies, but no disruption to the experience thanks to the provided equipment. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the on-site team. Both the manager and the receptionist were available, attentive, and very professional. A huge thank you to Raphaël, our instructor for the day, for his exceptional supervision. Educational, reassuring, attentive, and very caring, he created a relaxed and friendly atmosphere while ensuring an excellent level of safety. The walk was both challenging and rich in discoveries, particularly the passage near the troglodyte caves, which were narrated with insight. The exchange of our impressions further enhanced the experience. There were four of us (two adults, a teenage girl and her partner), and everyone left delighted, with memories to last a lifetime. This activity is highly recommended, for the quality of the supervision, the beauty of the setting, and the professionalism of the entire team.

Beach
Pontaillac Beach is a picturesque sandy cove known for its iconic striped beach tents, making it a popular spot for surfers. It's the first beach northward that catches Atlantic swells, offering great surfing opportunities. During high tide in summer, there's still plenty of space available. The area across the road offers good dining options and even features a casino with stunning views of the surfers. This beach is also perfect for photography enthusiasts, especially during sunset when the colorful shelters are illuminated.
Nice spot for photos. At around 19 o'clock the shelters are lightened in changing beautiful colors. During ebb you can make nice shots from the beach and the shelters.

Guests rave about the excellent French fries that accompany their meals. The service here is top-notch, with attentive staff who keep the atmosphere lively through humor while ensuring every need is met.
Eat Really worth the visit. We had a vegetable plate plancha grilled which was awesome. Furthermore scallops (Noix de Saint Jacques) with king prawns. The French fries are excellent. Service Very good, the waiter made a lot of jokes while he had always a an eye on us that we had everything we want. Ambiente Awesome, the view on the horizon, the bay and beach and the sunset is amazing.

Beautiful setting but awful experience. I understand that they are very busy as it’s summer and they are the only restaurant on the beach. However, I fail to understand why we needed to queue for over 20min despite having booked a table. The staff were rude from the get go and insulting when we complained (we had to ask multiple times for one of our drinks, we waited almost 30min for our table to be cleared after our main course). Moreover the dishes were overpriced. I’d avoid this place especially if you have children as they do not have high chairs.

We came here a couple of times before and the staff was nice, the food OK, and they have a great spot on the beach. Today we came for coffee and ice cream; they also had roasted chestnuts, which my companion never had, so i ordered a paper cone of them. Unfortunately MORE THAN A THIRD of them were spoiled and inedible. (Some had visible spots of mold inside as seen on pic). I mentioned it to our waiter, kindly, and asked him to make a gesture about it, whatever seemed fair to him. Off he went and talked to a waitress who might have been in charge. She came and told us that she was not allowed to comp anything but could bring us more chestnuts 🤣🤣 (why would we want more is beyond me). It's not about the money but about the international rule to comp for any meal that had spoiled parts. If you are a true professional in restauration you apologize and you comp, so your clients feel treated fairly and want to come back. Too bad they don't seem to know that rule. We loved the place. Now we love it less. :(

Very disappointing meal, which was a shame because we were celebrating our Wedding Anniversary. We ordered Entrecote (28 euros) which was supposed to come with frites and salad. They were fried sliced potatoes rather than chips - fine. But the salad consisted of thinly sliced red onions and a bit of fresh herb. I was told there were three choices of sauce, so asked for morille sauce but then I was told the only choice was Bearnaise. The Entrecote was terrible. Tough, hard to cut and mostly fat and stretchy gristly bits, with hardly any actual meat. There was also a guy in a black T shirt vaping in the kitchen area!! Such a disappointing meal. A shame because the location is lovely.

From the moment we walk in we felt less than welcome. In fairness we had no complaints about the pizza we ordered, We asked for the slices of pizza's we hadn't eaten to takeaway. I received mine wrapped in foil but my wife didn't get any. When she asked for hers she was told it was in the bin and the waiter laughed to the people on the adjacent table. Thought these days of making the British un welcome had long gone. - Clear not in Royal. Don't visit this restaurant if you want to feel welcome.

(Translated by Google) We were a little afraid of falling into a tourist trap when we tried the O Sole Mio experience and were delighted to discover quite the opposite. The restaurant's atmosphere is very pleasant, almost chic, with relatively refined decor and a superb sea view from the upper floor. Special mention for the chairs, which are so comfortable that you'll never want to leave them again. As for the food, I think I can say that it's one of the best pizzas I've ever eaten. Ingredients that taste fresh, arranged on a wood-fired dough that almost melts in your mouth. I had the Calzone, which is just as good as the others, whether in size or quality. The prices seemed a little high when we arrived, but they are completely justified in the dish and in the service. The staff is attentive and makes the experience all the more pleasant. I highly recommend it!

On Monday lunchtime, I had the opportunity to visit La Traverse restaurant. Luckily, I arrived early as it quickly became crowded with diners. The hosts were extremely amiable and accommodating. The dining area was spotless and well-maintained. All four of us enjoyed our meals immensely. Two of us opted for dishes from the daily menu while the other two chose from the regular menu. Each dish was cooked to perfection, bursting with delicious flavors. We are eagerly anticipating our next visit.
This was our 3rd visit to La Traverse, and we were very pleased as usual. We arrived at 12.20 on a sunny Wednesday in mid-September - officially off-season - without reservations. The entire shaded terrace was full or reserved, and we got a lovely table at the open window just inside. Restaurants nearby were virtually empty, but La Traverse was hopping, so you know it's doing something right! The menu is fairly extensive, including some delicious vegetarian options alongside traditional dishes such as a really good steak tartare and the ever popular seaside speciality of moules or mussels. The wine list offers good local wines by the glass, b the pitcher, or by the bottle, as well as cocktails and soft drinks. There is a very large ice cream selection, perfect for a snack on a hot afternoon after a session on the beautiful Saint-Georges-de-Didonne beach across the street. Desserts include crêpes and amazing profiteroles, complete with homemade salted caramel or chocolate sauce. We ordered à la carte and spent 76€ for two 3-course meals plus 2 glasses of wine and 2 coffees, but they also offer a very good value 2- or 3-course menu du jour for 16€50 or 19€ (from memory). If you go in the summer, make sure you book!

Don't miss out on Plage du Platin, a long stretch of calm and secluded sandy beach nestled in the midst of a residential area. It offers a unique panorama of the traditional fishing huts, legendary rocks, and the Terre-Negre lighthouse. This magnificent place is popular among children who enjoy playing and fishing on the rocks. Swimming at high tide is very pleasant, but caution is advised when the tide is low to avoid injuries from sharp rocks.
Very quiet beach, suitable for children. Although dogs are prohibited from april to September, there were still people walking their dog in de morning. Also, a lot of oyster shells can be found here on the rocks. If you go early, parking can be done very close to the beach.

Nestled in a charming locale, the Église du Vieux Clocher is a delightful and unique church that frequently hosts artistic exhibitions. Visitors are treated to an array of creative displays, from wooden sculptures to abstract paintings, making each visit a fresh experience. For those adventurous enough to ascend its narrow and steep staircase, the reward is nothing short of spectacular—a breathtaking 360-degree view of the estuary entrance and even glimpses of the distant Cordouan lighthouse on clear days.

(Translated by Google) This small museum is truly interesting because it reveals a great deal about Royan's history between the Neolithic period and the 1960s. The common thread is the town's connection to the ocean, which brought both prosperity and danger throughout its history. The sieges of 1622 and 1945 mark the most tragic moments, while salt, fishing, voyages to America, and sea bathing each ensured the town's success. A must-see. I visited Escapia Royan, an escape room center, with my family to try out their Murder at the Lighthouse game. As a fan of puzzle games, it was my first experience and I thoroughly enjoyed it! We had a great time challenging our minds and ultimately succeeded in solving the mystery. The staff member who accompanied us during the investigation was extremely pleasant. I highly recommend Escapia Royan for anyone looking for an enjoyable and engaging escape room experience.

(Translated by Google) Definitely my worst escape room experience. The welcome was frosty (we arrived 5 minutes late, admittedly), with no atmosphere, just a simple: third door on your right... The number of puzzles seemed low to us, but there were a lot of us, so why not? One puzzle gave us a hard time, and we spent over 15 minutes asking for a clue, as if no one was accompanying us. I'll let you imagine the frustration. The room is relatively accessible, no problem, and even better for beginners, but such a low investment in reception is truly deplorable. (Original) Certainement ma pire expérience d’escape game.

We had dinner there last night. Utter disappointment after seeing the nice reviews. When I ordered muscles I expected to get 10-15 in a small bowl but there were at least 50 if not more and you can imagine the size of the meat in them. I spent half hour opening them but couldn’t taste anything. 2 steaks we ordered were rubbery and mostly gristle. Crush tomatoes on bread we ordered, not sure how many days ago they crushed those tomatoes (I had a feeling they came out of a tin without any flavour) but surely they were left on the bread for hours before serving as the bread underneath has turned into mush. The rockets they served at the bottom of bread were also long dead. It was truly inedible. Chips they served however were one of the best I had and because of that they get a one star review!!!

Let s be honest food is great, pizza is delicious, the desserts as well but your poney tale guy is the worst waiter ever. Even if food is good you re not going to attract people in your venue with such a bad behavior making guests feeling bad, you re working in hospitality you need to make people feel like at home. Good luck and hope you'll work on it and fix it

Beautiful restaurant, but the outside is not what it is…never ever I’ll recommend this place. Localization great. You get a table you get some salted nuts and a bottle of water, oldest trick in the restaurant business. After I sipped a bit of my water I really tough did you people get this water out of the sea so salted it was, or maybe that’s the way to safe money on the tap water bill and make some money on my thirsty. After seeing the tartare at the table next to us, I’m glad didn’t take a starter, no passion no love for food nothing and a bad presentation it was everything except looking good. My champagne coupe cocktail was served with ice out of the shaker, at least taste of cocktail was good in the beginning…. I had an entrecôte full of fat and tendon. People for such a location and bill I was expecting a better. Disappointed from start till end, sorry my tiramisu was oké. Here some feedback, don’t be so old fashioned, quality brings quantity or maybe this is something you don’t care cause the sea will always bring people to your place. So sorry cause the place looks great. Oh and pls get an other coffee supplier, even you serving Lavazza the extraction time is wrong so very bitter. And no one time someone asked if everything was nice or oké, other wise you’ll get the same answer as I wrote. What disappointing for the French Kitchen.

Offering a veggie burger, vegetarian pizza and Caprese salad in a sea on non-veggie restaurants was welcome relief in an otherwise carnivorous culture. Can't comment on the rest of the menu but these were certainly not terrible (nor exceptional). We asked to have a non-cheese pizza for our daughter who is dairy intolerant which was obliged but they could not manage add tuna to it. The veggie burger was a soya based rather than reconstituted vegetable version which I prefer and was perfect with good sized chips. The Caprese nice and fresh, generous walnuts and tangy goats cheese. We nearly got the burger free as it was left off the bill and you would think that not ducking that and pointing it out to the waitress would result in level 2 French service but no such appreciation was evident and the service remained at Fr. Standard Level 1.0

Four of us ate here on Sunday and went for the €39 menu, there was a good choice of each course. We ended up eating indoors with the windows open as it was a bit noisy from the traffic passing by. Our waitress, with dark brown hair and glasses, was so nice and very helpful. Enjoyed all the food, myself and husband had the tomato buratta and the fish soup, both were yummy. I would suggest that the raw tuna starter needed something else to give it a bit of jazz. The rhubarb clafoutis was disappointing and pretty tasteless and the sponge was dense and overcooked. It certainly gives the golf club a run for its money. We had pre drinks and 2 bottles of wine. We will be back.
