Bridge
Sights & Landmarks
Ponte di Rialto, also known as the Rialto Bridge, is a stunning 16th-century stone footbridge that spans the Grand Canal in Venice. It is the oldest of the four bridges crossing the canal and was once the only way to cross from one bank to the other. Designed by architect Antonio da Ponte, it features a single arch to minimize interference with shipping traffic.
I’ve been to Venice twice. It’s best to go early in the morning when the crowds are still light – you’ll have more space and the scenery is perfect for photos. The canal water can be clear in some areas and less so in others, but the buildings and bridges built along the waterways are absolutely stunning
Vince H — Google review
This bridge is really beautiful. It offers a nice view around, being quite high and is amazing both day and night. On the downside, it’s crazy crowded and you may need to wait your turn just to take a picture.
Giovanni F — Google review
The Ponte di Rialto in Venice is one of the most beautiful bridges I’ve ever seen. The combination of the gondolas gliding along the Grand Canal and the bridge’s elegant architecture creates one of the most breathtaking views in all of Venice. It truly feels magical. I highly recommend visiting it!
Murillo P — Google review
Fantastic views from either side of the bridge make this bridge well worth a visit. The earlier in the day you can manage the better as it is still crowded in the winter months. However the views are worthwhile and the photo opportunities are excellent.
Blue S — Google review
Visited the Rialto Bridge while in Venice, very easy to get to and visible from different places and also from the water. Lots of shops on each side of the bridge, and lots of gift stalls at each end. A beautiful structure that is equally beautiful in daylight as it is after dark. A must see if in venice
George F — Google review
It’s a bridge — but a very beautiful one! The Ponte di Rialto is a great spot to take pictures and enjoy views of the Grand Canal. It’s usually busy, but the atmosphere is amazing. Definitely worth a quick stop when exploring Venice.
Dennis D — Google review
Loved staying nearby this beautiful bridge. Definitely a highlight to see it at all times of day, with the shops, the joy of everyone else experiencing the iconic moment and even the tension of all the boats and ferries doing the everyday life and business in the canal around it. There is a great local grocery store just down the canal. We didn’t end up eating in any of the restaurants right there as we found wonderful trattoria away from the crowds. Loved finding new views of it and from it.
Randy H — Google review
The most interesting thing to me here are the alleys that leads towards the bridge and the little restaurants and shops. (Not the shops on the bridge… they are awful.) The history behind the bridge is interesting and it is obviously a must see.

Nestled in the winding streets of Venice, Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo is a stunning 15th-century palace that showcases the city's rich architectural heritage. This hidden gem features the remarkable Bovolo staircase, a spiral marvel that combines Veneto-Byzantine, Gothic, and Renaissance styles. Commissioned by nobleman Pietro Contarini to enhance his residence's facade, this enchanting structure has become a favorite among visitors seeking picturesque views.
The gondola is one of the most iconic symbols of Venice, offering a timeless way to experience the city's enchanting canals. Traditionally handcrafted from wood and painted black, these elegant, flat-bottomed boats have been used for centuries as a primary means of transport through Venice’s narrow waterways. Gondoliers, often dressed in striped shirts and straw hats, expertly navigate the labyrinth of canals with a single oar, sharing stories or singing as they go. While no longer essential for daily commuting, gondolas remain a cherished part of Venetian culture and are popular among tourists seeking a romantic and scenic ride through this unique floating city.

Very photogenic spiral staircase linking two parts of an ancient palazzo- not too bad a climb and great views from the top. Tucked away down a tiny alleyway just off the main drag - you wouldn’t know it was there unless you were looking for it! Beautifully lit up at night
Adelaide T — Google review
Its cool. Its in a very unassuming tight location. We didn't bother paying and climbing so we stood outside the tall black chain link fence and got as good of pictures as possible. 10mins (plus the anytime awesome walk to and from) to see it. Then you can say you saw that old twisting tower from the Rick Steves Venice 🇮🇹 video.
Lee V — Google review
It was ok. You can get some views of the city and there was a small exhibition. If you only took a photo from the ground looking up you won’t have missed much.

You will love this place, the views from the tower are great This town just such history can’t wait to come back again I highly recommend it

Tickets a bit steep (haha) but the spiral staircase is a real jewel and the views impressive. Worth the climb!

It was one of our main stops in Venice, and I would say this is a hidden gem of the city. The entrance costs €9 per person, and €7 is the reduced price for people under 26. I believe the view from the top is definitely worth the price.

Saint Mark's Basilica, also known as Basilica di San Marco, is a renowned cathedral in Venice and one of the most recognizable churches globally. Originally the Doge's private chapel, it boasts Byzantine art treasures brought back by Venetian ships after the fall of Constantinople. The facade features gold-backed mosaic pictures hinting at the stunning mosaic artistry inside, covering 4,240 square meters of domes and walls.
Not to be missed place to visit in Venice. Beautiful interior with mosaics showing Jesus and saints in the Byzantine style. If you want to visit to pray or be quiet, go to the side entrance and go in there. Otherwise, you can buy a time slot ticket in advance so you go straight in at the designated time. You can also buy an additional tickets for the museum with the bronze horses and to see the golden jewelled altarpiece, both I would recommend doing. Allow at least 2 hours to go round and see it all and take it in and not rush.
Desmond C — Google review
St. Mark’s Basilica is one of the most breathtaking and iconic landmarks in Venice truly a masterpiece of architecture and history. The moment you step into Piazza San Marco and see the golden domes and intricate mosaics shining in the sunlight, it feels absolutely magical. Inside, the basilica is stunning beyond words. The golden mosaics that cover the ceilings and walls are extraordinary, telling biblical stories in incredible detail and color. The marble floors, arches, and artwork all reflect centuries of Venetian glory and devotion. Every corner feels sacred and timeless. The view from the terrace is also unforgettable you can see the whole square, the Doge’s Palace, and the sparkling lagoon beyond. It’s one of the best spots to take photos and admire the beauty of Venice from above. Visiting St. Mark’s Basilica is a must for anyone coming to Venice. It’s not just a church it’s a living piece of art and history that leaves you amazed and inspired.
Lg G — Google review
Wow. First look was across the square - what a magnificent place. Loved listening to Rick Steeves podcast about the square and outside of the church. So many intricacies and unique bits. Then we were a part of a mass in the side chapel- so lovely. Came back later that day for the whole tour (again with RS!) amazing history, architecture, heaving floor & art! Did the whole deal with Pala d’oro and Loggia and glad I did. So cool to get up close to the horses, the mosaics, the view from up top. I bought tickets the same day but that saved me some waiting time.
Randy H — Google review
The Saint Mark’s Basilica is one of the most beautiful Catholic churches I have ever visited. The basilica blends perfectly with the surrounding Saint Mark’s Square and the Doge’s Palace, creating a breathtaking historical setting. The main altar is truly a jewel—absolutely astonishing in its detail and craftsmanship. On the second floor, the four Greek horses are remarkable pieces of art and history. I highly recommend visiting this magnificent church with a guided tour to fully appreciate its rich background and hidden details.
Murillo P — Google review
Clearly a masterpiece of art and architecture, I would encourage everyone to visit St. Mark’s. However, be careful what you’re doing when buying tickets. Our ticket just got us in to the basilica itself which meant we missed a few things; my fault but the ticketing website was not 100% clear. It also made the whole thing feel a bit like a grubby money making exercise, which in one way I guess it is. Also I think it would be good to be able to buy an official multi ticket for the most popular things in the square (basilica, campanile, palace) without having to buy them all separately at full cost.
Ollie F — Google review
How do I begin with this review? First off it is a beautiful and unique church with it's design and famous mosaic. The catch is, you have to pay 10 Euros per entry as of Oct 2025. Why do we need to pay to enter a church, a place of worship? And for the 10 Euros paid, what you can see very limited, basically it's just going in and have a look around, without having access to Pala d’oro e Museo Loggia dei cavalli. What you get for what you paid is extremely not worth it. Buy tickets in advance to avoid any hassle of having to buy tickets on the day itself.
JunWei M — Google review
The Basilica di San Marco is really impressive. It offers incredible details and beautiful art. It is usually sold out for the next 2 days, so I recommend purchasing tickets in advance. On the official website you can buy it with an entry time, so you don’t have to queue outside. Once inside, you can also buy tickets for some additional areas of the Basilica, directly through a QR code that is placed right in front of the area you want to visit. If you wish to get an audio guide, you can rent one once inside, just after the access, but you will need your own earphones (which currently need a mini jack to be connected to the device), if you don’t have it, you can still hear it placing the device on your ear. This is available in several languages and it will be necessary if you want to know what you’re looking at in the Basilica. Depending on how long you want to stay inside, you may be able to see it all in 30-60 minutes, differently from the Palazzo Ducale which takes much longer. Have fun!

St. Mark’s Basilica is absolutely stunning and a must-see in Venice. I highly recommend visiting the museum and, most importantly, stepping out onto the terrace — the view over the square and the lagoon is simply breathtaking!

Book store
Libraries
Libreria Acqua Alta is a charming and unconventional second-hand bookshop located in a quiet residential courtyard near the Ponte delle Tette in Venice. The shop is known for its chaotic yet cozy atmosphere, with books stacked in non-thematic piles, old bathtubs, and even a decommissioned gondola to protect them from tidal floods.
Perfect Place for Cat and Book Lovers I had bookmarked this place for years but didn’t get to visit during my last trip to Venice. We arrived around 6 PM, just an hour before closing. The store was very busy, and like many other European places, there was no AC—it honestly felt like a sauna. To our disappointment, the famous photo spot was closed the day we went. However, it’s still worth visiting if you’re a cat and book lover!
G Y — Google review
Yes..the bookstore is quirky! Yes the bookstore is small Yes..there are plenty of cats wondering around Yes..it is a great photo op! This bookstore has become Instagram Famous..so if you are actually searching for a book ..this is not the place to look! I would say if you are near the Rialto Bridge and wanna check it out…go for it..but lower expectations and donate to the cat’s food on your way out!
Shane J — Google review
Another gem destroyed by influencers on Instagram / Tiktok. What was an amazing and quirky bookshop is now just a place for people to take photos. The amount of people that go through the shop and don't buy anything is really annoying. It's nuts that people just step inside take their photos and leave.
Akil M — Google review
We had not set out for here on an early morning wander but turned a corner and from a bridge saw the rear door gondola. We thought we should pop in. Initially it was quiet, we had space to look and choose some bits and pieces but suddenly it was rammed you could only walk one way and the poor guy directing trying to explain it was a book shop. What was sad was the amount of people stopping for photos of each other, themselves and the surroundings but not purchasing anything... Without trade how do the shops survive?! People taking photos for themselves, their insta account etc just think... If it's worth a visit, you are not paying an entry fee, show the owner some courtesy buy a post card, a magnet of Venice, a poster, a paper journal, a tote bag or even a book!
Amanda W — Google review
Visit with a right expectation and you will be fine. It is very popular with tourists and it is not your usual bookstore for browsing or reading but for Instagramming. You have to carry your backpack in front and follow the designated walking path, to the back and out in quick time. Every corner is quirky and well lived. On the way out, we managed to pick up and paid for two books, as there was no long queue at the checkout counter.
Terence N — Google review
Super cool!! But way overcrowded so much so that they have to have employees usher people through, you don’t really have time to look at any of the books. But I can see why it’s popular, it’s really neat. But too small of a place to draw so many people
Katie H — Google review
Sadly I think this is a place that is now too popular, perhaps overhyped by exposure on social media. It was very interesting inside but also very crowded, this was a pity as the book selection was actually very varied and interesting. We didn’t see a single cat, I guess they were hiding from the crowds.
Ollie F — Google review
We visited Libreria Acqua Alta hoping to take some photos on the famous book staircase and inside the gondola, but unfortunately both areas were closed — maybe because it was a rainy day. We also wanted to browse for some vintage books, but the selection seemed mostly modern titles. It’s still a charming and quirky place to see, but we left a bit disappointed overall.

St Mark's Campanile is an impressive 16th-century cathedral tower located in Piazza San Marco, Venice. It offers breathtaking views of the city and the surrounding area. Visitors can take an elevator to the top and enjoy panoramic vistas of Piazza San Marco, the Doges Palace, St. Mark's Basilica, and the Venetian Lagoon. The tower provides a convenient way to experience stunning aerial views without having to climb stairs.
It’s €15 per person, but it’s really WORTH IT!! You have an over view of the whole city and islands of Venice. You choose every half hour for the climb up time, but it’s not that strict. You can come up during sunset hours - personally I think it’s very beautiful. It’s elevator only so you don’t need to climb up the bell tower. Also, during sometime the bells will ring very loudly - be aware.
Erdun A — Google review
A visit here is €15, somehow steeper than visiting the actual basilica over the square, but I think it was worth it. You get a quick lift ride to the top of the tower and then obviously the views across the city. It was a bit rainy when we went but this didn’t ruin the experience. We did expect some kind of joined up ticket system for St. Mark’s Square; I think it would be good to be able to buy a linked ticket for the basilica, campanile and palace. Similar to the Doge’s Palace, the online ticket system was hard to navigate but it worked in the end.
Ollie F — Google review
You can now only purchase tickets for the bell tower online. There is a QR code to scan by the main entrance or visit their official website in advance. There is only one official ticket office for bell tower tickets and so you want the website with basilicasanmarco.skiperformance in the web address. I also highly recommend you do this in advance as it took us 45 minutes trying to do this there and then & the website kept crashing or took an age to buffer on account of the number of people trying to do the same thing in the same location. When we moved away from the area the website loaded more easily. They are the best views of Venice for sure and cost €15 per adult with cheaper prices for children.
Mark W — Google review
The ticket system can be a little overwhelming, but once you get them, you will wait some time in queue for the lift. We had tickets for 18:00 - 18:30, the sunset was at 18:08 and we entered queue around 17:57 and got up after 18:14, the sun was already set but still was beautiful. The views you get up There is like nothing else provided in Venezia. You can see almost all of it, if you are here i definitely recomend giving these views a go.
Jiri S — Google review
Definitely worth to visit the tower. Great view from the top for every side of Venice. The lift takes you up and then down again. Recommend to buy tickets in advance as it might be busy. Also entrance might be flooded during high tide so be prepared with shoes covers.
Elghato E — Google review
This allows you to have a look around Venice from above. You reach the top of the Campanile with an elevator and once on the top you can move around (literally) the balcony (closed with a metal net for security reasons. You are able to spot the points of interest all around and there’s a map in front of every “window” to help you understand what you’re looking at. The visit can really take 30 minutes if you’re not wishing to spend much time looking at the view. You will likely need to queue for the elevator both up and down, even if you have a timed ticket. Talking of which, it would be much better to buy that in advance to select the slot which suits you best. You can do so directly on the official website, where you have to create an account. You will receive digital tickets, no need to print. You don’t need a guide for this tour, as it is literally just a sightseeing.
Giovanni F — Google review
We decided to get stand alone tickets to see the view from Saint Marco's Campanile, the tallest structure in Venice. Ticket's for two people to visit the top is 35 USD, a bit pricy if you ask me for a 15 second elevator ride and maybe 5-10 minutes of views from above. Honestly, I cannot say it was truly worth it, the views are nice, but you cannot see any canals from the top. It was a bit crowded, and the times are not flexible.
Kevin B — Google review
3 stars seems harsh I know but let me explain why this stunning piece of Vencian history and architecture got a 3 from us. Firstly, enjoy for free from outside unless you are will to spend 50euro for 2. You are rushed around the venue like cattle. We tried to sit for a little while to enjoy the architecture and listen to it's history on YouTube but were asked to get up. You also can't enter the top, unless you have more than a basic ticket.A real shame -tourist trap 😕. If I was you I would save the money and spend it on a nice drink -watching the world go by.

Basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo, also known as St. John and Paul Basilica, is a magnificent Gothic church in Venice's Castello district. This grand edifice is the final resting place of 25 Venetian doges and boasts an impressive collection of art, including Veronese's ceiling decorations. The interior is adorned with captivating paintings, statues, and other ornate decorations on each grave.
Really enjoyed visit to the Basilica. It is right next to the hospital which also has an amazing entrance BTW. It's just 3.5 euro each to get in and you are met with an amazing and large area. There several little chapels off the main area. There are many works of religious art on the walls. Looks like some rich people also managed to get some tombs or statues or whatever rich people like spending money on in churches to be try to be remembered (I ignored all the names so they also failed). There is a crucifix with a kneeler in the centre. A reminder of what happened to a man who tried to spread peace. Such a shame that 2000 years later terror still reigns and bullies are still in control . The vaulted ceilings are fantastic, but the piece de resistance is the wonderful stained glass window. A mirror is provided to get an even closer look. Words don't really do the place justice so I have posted several pictures. Truly worth visiting.

Honestly, I found this basilica more beautiful than the San Marco. Very quiet, you're free to walk around and the entrance fee is only a few euros.

Simply put, this is the largest church in Venice. Step inside, and the vastness and serenity feel almost otherworldly. Its immense scale means there’s no shortage of art to uncover at every turn, from intricate marble altars and vibrant frescoes to majestic cupolas, stained glass windows, patterned floors, and grand tombs.

Wonderful interior. Sam sold us our tickets and then showed us the switches to light up the art. This place is a hidden gem, bathed in so much history. When we visited it was almost empty, so the atmosphere was so serene with just the sound of soft prayer music.

Beautiful church! There is a small fee to enter. The staff members Sam and Fra Giuseppe were super friendly and helpful! I bought a rosary and Fra was so kind to interrupt his work to bless it with a beautiful prayer. The architecture and art are beautifully displayed throughout on the various alters. We found relics on display including a foot of Saint Catherine of Siena. This was a pleasant surprise and another jewel in the Venice . I highly recommend a visit!

Teatro La Fenice, also known as "The Phoenix," is a renowned 1,000-seat theater in Italy that has faced destruction from three major fires since its opening in 1792. Despite these setbacks, the opera house has been meticulously restored and continues to host world-class opera, ballet, and classical music performances. The opulent interiors with gold detailing and plush red velvet chairs provide an old-world ambiance for visitors to enjoy classic Italian opera.
Elegant and historic theatre with breathtaking architecture and rich cultural heritage. The interior is lavishly decorated, and the acoustics are excellent, making performances truly memorable. Even if you can’t attend a show, a guided tour is highly recommended to appreciate its beauty and history.

Ideal to be inside somewhere seeing this little gem on a hot day. We had a rehearsal going on too. We didn't need to pre book, just walked in and got the tickets. It was not very crowded.

A stunning theatre with a wonderful history. The “Phoenix” has risen a number of times, most recently after a fire in 1996. In the tour, there is a touching tribute to the late, great Maria Callas, who performed here in many roles over many years. The ball room and Apollo rooms are also very beautiful.

A breathtaking historic theater – worth the visit Teatro La Fenice is one of the most beautiful opera houses I’ve seen. The interior is grand and elegant, full of history and charm. Even if you’re not attending a performance, the guided tour gives a fascinating glimpse into Venice’s cultural past. The ticket price is a bit high for a short visit, but the experience and atmosphere make it worthwhile.

1. Atmosphere & Architecture The theatre is absolutely gorgeous — gilded, ornate, with that period elegance. Golden decorations, frescoes, chandeliers, woodwork, plush red or rose‑velvet seating, all contribute to an immersive experience. There’s a powerful sense of history: La Fenice has burned down and been restored multiple times (notably a major fire in 1996), yet each reconstruction has honored the original style. That gives the place layers of resilience, almost mythic quality, which heightens the emotional impact. 2. Acoustics & Performance The sound is often praised — many reviews say that the acoustics are excellent; the theatre skillfully balances the orchestra, the singers, and the ambiance so that even from the boxes the intimacy isn’t lost. When there is a live performance (opera, symphony, ballet), everything seems to fall into place: the space, the architecture, the music and performance combine in a way that seems to transport people — many say they get chills. 3. Cultural Significance & Emotion La Fenice has hosted many premieres by Verdi, Rossini, Donizetti, etc. It’s a place where musical history was made. That gives a visit or performance an extra layer of weight and meaning. The restoration after tragedies (fires), the passion to rebuild “com’era, dov’era” (“as it was, where it was”) adds a sense of phoenix‑like rebirth. It’s fitting symbolically. 4. Accessibility & Visitor Experience Audio guides get good marks. They help bring the history, the architecture, stories of past performances alive for visitors. The cost of a visit is often considered reasonable for what one gets (€15-€25 for Sanpaolo). Some family‑pricing options exist. #mostoere #mosinitiatief #bethelselfcatering #9barnardstreetgeorge

Beautiful venue with excellent orchestra and conductor. Classical music doesn't get any better than this. Most seats are great. The location is great. Many great restaurants nearby. Everyone is helpful. And oh, the music.

La Fenice, absolutely gorgeous. Whether you're an opera lover or not, take in a show just for the experience. Wozzeck was fantastic, although an intermission wouldn't have gone astray. Be sure to purchase your tickets several months in advance as they sell fast!

Italian restaurant
Taverna La Fenice is a traditional Italian restaurant located near the famous opera house. The elegant stuccoed dining room and plant-filled terrace offer a charming setting for enjoying authentic Italian cuisine. The restaurant also houses an American Bar, known for its impeccable cocktails crafted by bartender Gennaro Florio. With a menu that evolves with each new period, Taverna La Fenice offers unique dishes ideal for sharing with friends or family.
I came here with my family, and it turned out to be my favorite evening of our trip to Venice. Everything was perfect. The restaurant is set in a quiet courtyard, away from the masses, creating the most intimate summer atmosphere. I had a seafood spaghetti dish, and it was beautiful - I’m still thinking about it! The staff were lovely! Highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting Venice.

this restaurant has a sophisticated and elegant ambiance, with professional (if not particularly warm) service. for antipasti, we opted for the fried pumpkin flowers and vegetables which unfortunately is not worth the price. the zucchini was cut too thick, making it bland and unremarkable, and the pumpkin flowers lacked flavor. the tartar sauce, however, was the real star of the plate, it was rich and delicious. for our first courses, the ravioli was flavorful, though the truffle aroma was more of a whisper than a statement. the gnocchi turned out to be a single, oversized gnocco, which was a bit underwhelming in taste, though the mushrooms accompanying it were excellent. a small redemption came when the waiter surprised us with a traditional venetian carnival dessert (very delicious) that left a much better final impression. still, even given the prime location in the heart of venice, the pricing felt excessive: charging €7 for a small bottle of water is outrageous.

Elegant but pricey restaurant with great food Place Stylish and leaning toward the fancy side. Beautifully decorated with a theatre-inspired vibe. Located in a quiet area, right next to a hotel and the Teatro La Fenice. Staff Service was professional, polite, and very friendly. Everything felt attentive and of high quality. The lady host seemed very educated, but at the same time, felt cold and slightly rude. Not sure if that was the intention. Food The steak was perfectly cooked and full of flavor, with sides that complemented it well. Dessert was very good, though on the small side for the price. Prices Prices are on the higher end, but fair for the quality - in some terms. However, the menu was confusing as some items appeared priced for two people but were actually per person. On top of that, the cover charge and service charge felt excessive and unnecessary. The price for water also seemed exaggerated.

Ricardo was awesome!!! He took such great care of us as we sat in the comfy chairs on the patio out front. Weather was perfect and the cocktails were too!

Came across this beautiful restaurant/bar by accident. So glad we did! It was so elegant, we could not help but stop off for a glass of vino.

Don’t go here. It’s a tourist trap. They try to rip you off. The service is awful, they take as long as possible so the tables stay filled. Other wise it would be very empty. We waited close to 30 min before even ordering food. Some dishes the force you to order two orders. So the risotto (which was hard and undercooked) is £52. They make you order two large portions. There is no love music or snacks, but they hit you with a €5 cover charge per person. The food was just ok, both are dishes were loaded with salt, nothing was memorable. But the price was … €200 and we didn’t even have a bottle of wine. Then after all this they charge you 10% service fee! In Italy, a cover charge and service fee ?? I’m sure they only do that to tourists and hope they get away with. So if you want to pay service fees, for the worst service you have ever had, come here.

TOURIST TRAP TOURIST TRAP TOURIST TRAP Slow service, you take a seat and they charge you automatically 10€ fee per person+ 10% tip on the top of your bill. Also they tried to charge us 7€ per bottle of water we didn't have. Aperol spritz 12€ per glass. Wasn't worth it. Wasn't any bigger and definitely not stronger than any others for half price around St. Marks Square. To be honest I had better Aperol on Murano for 3,50€. Mushrom risotto was ok. 28€ per portion. Bill was 125€ for 2 portions of risotto and 4 aperol spritz is ridiculous.

WHAT AN AMAZING PLACE! We visited Taverna La Fenice on my birthday, for a cocktail (or two) and there we met the lovely bartender, who was absolutely MAGNIFICENT! We were so impressed with him and the service (faultless and to perfection) that we booked a table for the following night, sadly our last night in Venice. The food was Michelin standard, the atmosphere was magical and the staff were amazing and very friendly...except for who we think was the 'head waiter'...a blonde haired man in a blue suit and a red tie who was completely arrogant and thought himself above all other staff and obviously customers! He was constantly standing and talking to the couple on the next table, whom he obviously knew well, whilst we were trying to enjoy the ambience of the place. Not very considerate of him and very offputting. He had the task of creating our crepes at the table, no conversation with us! Almost as though it was beneath him to do this task. He made absolutely no eye contact, which made us feel very uncomfortable and even when he served the dishes to us, he could not bring himself to speak to us, just to grunt something as he handed them over - not professional at all. He then went back to talking to the couple on the next table and waited until he had finished the conversation with them and as he was moving off almost shouted at us, 'It's good, yes?' How rude. How unprofessional. How ignorant. This 'head waiter' or whoever he was, needs to pay more attention to how fabulous all the other staff are, instead of being 'puffed up' and full of his own arrogance. Ridiculous man. HOWEVER, do not let this man you off...the food is the best we tasted in Venice, the atmosphere of the restaurantis is amazing, you are made to feel special by the other staff and the bartender outside was MAGNIFICENT (I wish I had asked his name...he was so lovely) he was worth his weight in gold - what a marvellous front man for the restaurant. Exceptional. You must experience it for yourself...hopefully the 'head waiter' will leave for pastures new soon (he needs to) and let everyone else just get on with doing a spectacular job in a very professional and faultless way. Eccezionale! We will be back on our next visit to Venice. Gary and Alison Brookes x

Ai Do Leoni is a charming café located just a few steps from St. Mark's Basilica in Venice. It offers an affordable alternative to the nearby Caffe Florian, with espresso priced at 1.20 euros. The café is popular among locals and visitors alike, providing a true Italian experience of standing while enjoying your coffee. In addition to coffee, Ai Do Leoni serves small sandwiches and pasta dishes, making it a convenient spot for a quick meal or snack.
Delicious fresh interesting cicchetti with friendly staff. We loved the shrimp with pickled onions, fire roasted peppers, and prosciutto with mustard, and Gorgonzola with raspberry jam and capers. But the fish w lavender and onion was such a surprisingly good but unexpected taste we also appreciated. Do yourself a favor and just try them all.

We stumbled upon this bar while walking near St. Mark’s Cathedral and loved it so much we came back the next day. The drinks and cicchetti were excellent, and we were really impressed by how hardworking the staff were, constantly mixing drinks and keeping the whole place running smoothly.

Cute chill bar in the middle of very touristy place. Aperol was amazing, cicchetti were amazing. Special thanks to Ricardo for great service and entertaining conversation. Definitely recommend this place and will visit next time I’m in Venice.

A great bar right next to St. Mark’s Square! We stopped by late in the evening, and although it was quite busy, we managed to find a spot at the bar and started with some Aperol Spritz and cicchetti. After a while, we were joined by a lovely couple from Ireland (sending our warm greetings!). During our conversation, we ordered a glass of red wine, and shortly after, the staff surprised us with another round of complimentary cicchetti — such a thoughtful gesture! Thank you for the wonderful experience — we definitely recommend this bar!

We got 3 cicchetti and an aperol spritz, all for €16. It was a little pricey given that this bar is located right next to San Marco square. Unfortunately we weren’t pleased with the lack of recycling. My mother asked to dispose of a plastic water bottle, but one of the bartenders told us to throw it away in one of the garbages nearby. The cicchetti and the aperol spritz were pretty good!

Bar Ai de Leoni was a great stop for a snack and a drink. The server was kind, spoke English well, and gave some great recommendations, which made things super easy. The atmosphere was really cool—small, nicely designed, and it had a homey, relaxed vibe. I really enjoyed the cicchetti (Venetian-style tapas), especially the sarde in saor—easily my favorite. A perfect place to take a break and enjoy some local flavors. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.

It’s a beautiful Venice bacaro right next to Sr Marks square that is not touristy enough to make you uncomfortable and gives you imaginative tapas options and a very good set of wines by the glass. The cicchetti were great no mater whether it was just sheep’s cheese with pear mostarda, sausage with pesto or some crazy vegan concoction of dried, cooked and raw vegetables or Gorgonzola and anchovies. The wine was certainly good and quite reasonably priced with both classical and natural options to entertain almost every kind of a customer. The people running the show are young, cheerful, helpful and caring. I will come here at least once on my every visit to Venice.

Excellent colorfully lit bar we stumbled upon while walking around in late-night Venice. Their cicchetti were delicious, and the cocktails were phenomenal. Our bartender got creative and served us all sorts of delicious drinks. The highlight for me was the one in the picture, which was their creative take on a Bloody Mary and was just amazing. Right amount of spice and just perfectly savory without being heavy. Just delicious. 10/10.

Restaurant
Ristorante Quadri, located above the famous café of the same name in Venice, offers a blend of Venetian ambience and history. The restaurant's interior has been updated by designer Philippe Starck while still maintaining its historical charm. Since being taken over by the Alajmo family, the kitchen is now led by an accomplished sous-chef from Padua, resulting in a menu with complex and sophisticated dishes best sampled through a tasting menu.
Just had the most amazing gastronomic experience in Italy! We decided to go with the a la carté menu. The food was on point, the staff was very friendly and attentive, and I even had the chef come to our table to make my birthday dessert! Big thanks to my husband for this great surprise!
Elissa D — Google review
My wife and I recently dined at this restaurant and were immediately captivated by the beautiful and romantic atmosphere. The ambiance truly set the stage for what we hoped would be an unforgettable evening. The service was impeccable, with attentive and friendly staff who made us feel welcome and well-cared for throughout our meal. Having been spoiled by many trips to the Inn At Little Washington, we had high expectations for the food. We chose the Venetian Spring Sampler from the menu, but unfortunately, we found the dishes to be not up to the standards of a Michelin-starred restaurant. While the presentation was lovely, the flavors and execution fell short of our expectations. Despite this, we still had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. The setting and service made the evening special, and we left with fond memories of our time there. We finished our meal and appreciated the effort put into creating such a wonderful dining environment. Overall, while the food did not meet our high expectations, the exceptional service and enchanting atmosphere made for a delightful experience.

Stopped in for an aperitivo for three people with two sodas, one spritz, and two orders of their seafood cichetti and the bill came out to 116 euros. Service was fast and great, and you cannot beat the view because you are right in St. Mark’s Square with a live band playing. You are really paying a premium for the atmosphere and ambiance here. We only did an aperitivo but I can imagine for a larger meal with drinkers your check will balloon quickly. It is a one and done bucket list sort of place. The seafood cichetti were good and tasty but you can find even better cichetti a little further into the heart of Venice.

I went with my grandma to this restaurant 2 years ago. I write this review until now because before I didn’t realize how important it was to speak up about inequalities in restauration. We got to the restaurant and right off the bat the manager was very rude to us. I think it had to do with the fact that we were women because they were treating everyone else a lot better than us. It took a long time for someone to take our order, our dishes were arriving cold, the service was very bad, they were leaving our plates in the table even after we were done while serving the other ones, and we confirmed it was only with us when we looked at the other tables and it wasn’t that way. After 2 courses + the amusement Bouche my grandma was very offended by the managers attitude when she brought up these concerns to him. She asked for the check and to our surprise he charged us for the whole tasting menu! My grandma didn’t want to have any problems so she payed it but honestly, it has been the worst treatment I’ve ever received at any restaurant, my grandma and I felt extremely uncomfortable and belittled by this sir’s attitude and the treatment we got. For a restaurant of this category and price we expected a lot more. The food was alright, but it’s the worst treatment my grandma or I had received in our lives in a restaurant.

Myself and my husband recently visited the restaurant August /25 ,to celebrate a special birthday. We were both overwhelmed with the service on arrival couldn’t be more relaxed and comfortable within the restaurant. The food was truly described throughout the menu and was an experience so unique and delicious. Would highly recommend this restaurant for a great meal and experience on the square. Thank you for the surprise birthday treat .

This charming ristoranti is proof that not all the spots in the main touristic areas are tourist traps. Prices here are very reasonable and it was like finding a treasure, with beautiful Venice Barroque interior and gentle staff right in the heart of Piazza San Marco. I loved it and when I return to Venice this is a must go. ❤️
Maricy F — Google review
I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. Given the price and reputation, I expected a memorable fine dining meal, but the food was extremely underwhelming. The flavors were flat and lacked any real depth or creativity. The main course was so heavy and unbalanced that I couldn’t even finish it, and the dessert was overly sweet and forgettable. While the presentation was elegant, the dishes themselves felt pretentious rather than genuinely enjoyable. For the price of nearly €200 per person, the quality simply did not match the cost. I’ve had far better meals in Venice for a fraction of the price. Overall, it was a very poor value for money and not an experience I would recommend or repeat.

If you're looking for an overpriced spritz and to be dive bombed invaded by pigeons and seagulls, look no further. Honestly, this was an entertaining, albeit overly priced, stop at the Piazza San Marco on a blistering hot day. While the shade was appreciated, the people watching top notch, and the music a nice touch, the constant need to defend against aggresively encroaching pigeons and swooping seagulls made this aperol spritz stop both unique and stressful. If that's your thing, then give this place a try, but honestly, for the 16 euro aperol spritz, average at best, it's not my cup of tea, or Campari, right?

A mixed experience. The pizza was maximum average, but everything else, oh boy how nice! The mussels were absolutely top notch, the sauce a real highlight. We eat mussels alot during our venice and croatian tour, but in this restaurant they were definitely the best, we always compare to this. The board with cold cuts amazing, so big and not expensive with excel quality. The service super attentive, friendly and fast - highly recommend this place!

This poor rating is so unfair and unjustified! Here are my two cents aiming to change it! Very cosy home-like Italian restaurant with excellent food. The „menu of the day“ offers generous portions of the tasty dishes. My daughter is picky about lasagna and she gave the highest score to this one! The rest of the family had various seafood including the preset menu. Calamari with baked rosemary potatoes, seafood spaghetti and seafood risotto- everything of the excellent taste and a very nice serving (unfortunately we didn’t take any pictures!). The Doge's Palace, also known as Palazzo Ducale, is a stunning Gothic building located in Venice on St. Mark's Square. It served as the residence of the rulers and housed the parliament, secret affairs of the Inquisition, and even imprisoned criminals. The palace boasts chiseled colonnades, Gothic arches, and crenellated walls that give it an exquisite and sophisticated appearance in this city on water.
This place was extremely extraordinary and was a pleasure exploring the palace. I would really recommend that you buy tickets beforehand and the earlier the better. You will definitely need 2+ hours to explore this palace especially if your into art and history. I loved every bit of it. The cafe was also nice and the prices were reasonable. It’s definitely a must go if you’re in Venice!

I recommend getting a tour guide to learn more about the history of the palace. The café was also nice and not too expensive. It’s a must see when in Venice.

The Doge’s Palace in Venice is one of the city’s true highlights. The architecture is stunning, and the frescoes that adorn the walls are absolutely breathtaking — a masterpiece of art that can only be rivaled by those in the Vatican. The entire building exudes history and power, making it easy to imagine the grandeur of Venice’s past. I highly recommend visiting this remarkable landmark.

You have to get tickets online so you'll save time, not waiting to buy tickets. This palace is gorgeous, you will need more than an hour to see everything. This place is huge, there is a lot of photos opportunity. They have a impressive selection of fancy rooms. The ceiling is full of art, with golden details. Take time to learn about the history of this place. They have tour guides here as well, in case you want to learn more in detail. Give yourself about 2 hours here.

A must-see in Venice! The Doge’s Palace is absolutely breathtaking — filled with history, incredible art, and ornate architecture that captures the essence of Venice’s power and beauty. We visited around 5 PM, and it wasn’t busy at all, which made it even more enjoyable to explore at our own pace. Highly recommend booking tickets in advance to skip any lines and ensure your preferred time. Walking across the Bridge of Sighs and seeing the view from both sides was unforgettable. Truly one of the highlights of our trip!

Book ahead of time and the queue isn't TOTALLY awful. Impressive selection of fancy rooms with big paintings in them. Have fun spotting which doge looks the most like Santa! Surprised the gift shop doesn't do Doge Top Trumps, this would sell (if palazzo ducale are listening). Also top tip: at some point in the tour you get to the prison cells and you have the option to take the short route or the 'complete tour'. The complete tour is just LOTS MORE PRISON CELLS. Only take if you really enjoy empty stone rooms and stairs!

Really stunning museum inside, illustrating the complex political system of the Republic of Venice and the history of the palace/prison. I would say that the ticketing system (in common with a lot of things in the St. Mark’s area) was insane. I couldn’t get the website to sell me a ticket without booking for another museum at the same time. In the end we just stood in the queue which wasn’t too bad (visited at end of October).

Bridge
The Bridge of Sighs, also known as Ponte dei Sospiri, is an arched bridge made of white limestone that was constructed in 1600. It connects the interrogation rooms of the Doges Palace to the prison cells across the canal. According to legend, prisoners would sigh as they crossed it due to its supposedly beautiful views, although this seems unlikely given that the windows were barred.
Venice stands as a masterpiece of history and romance, with its enchanting canals, stunning architectural marvels, and world-famous attractions like St. Mark’s Basilica and the Rialto Bridge. The gondola rides only add to its charm
Seema — Google review
A bridge of sighs — and a reminder of the One who hears every cry. The Bridge of Sighs in Venice carries a heavy history. It once connected the courtrooms to the prison — a final passage for those who had been judged, their sighs echoing through the stone as they glimpsed their last view of freedom. But even in a place of sorrow, there is hope. Because there is One who hears every sigh, sees every tear, and offers true freedom — not just from chains, but from sin. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18) The Bridge of Sighs reminds us that judgment is real — but so is mercy. Where human justice ends, divine grace begins. Through Jesus, the ultimate Judge became our Savior. He took our place so we could walk in freedom, not in fear. So even the saddest bridges can become sacred places when they point us to the cross — where the deepest sigh was breathed, and the greatest love was revealed. To God be the glory — even in our sighs, He brings salvation.

Take the tour inside and you can walk though it. Unbelievable history there. Picture is view from inside it looking out. Great pictures from bridge down near the water. Venice is so beautiful and a great place to spend time at. Take a gondola ride under the bridge of signs. So many things to see and do in Venice. Definitely take some tours and learn the history of the city. It is so worth it.

Famous historical site. It is an enclosed bridge that passes over the Rio di Palazzo. It is made of white limestone and has windows with stone bars. It connects the New Prison to the interrogation rooms in Doge's Palace. The English name comes from the suggestion that prisoners would stop on the bridge and sigh at their final view of the beautiful Venice city before being led away to their cells.
Dr G — Google review
I have always been intrigued by the story behind the name of the Bridge of Sighs, and have been looking forward to be on the bridge, when I visit Venice. The bridge was constructed in the opening years of the 17th century to link the palace's old prison and courtrooms with a newly constructed slammer across the narrow canal.⁣⁣ According to legend, the bridge takes its name from the despairing sighs of prisoners gazing out at the beauty of Venice through the shuttered stonework as they were led away to their dark future of imprisonment. The bridge’s combination of beauty and intrigue makes it one of the favourite places in Venice. And of course it attracted the crowd too. It was great experience to be here.
Rahmah R — Google review
The bridge of sighs is located a few steps away from Piazza San Marco and therefore gets very busy. The bridge connects the interrogation rooms in the Doge's Palace to the Prigioni Nuove ( the new prison ) and was built in early 1600s. Entirely enclosed, it consists of two narrow and separated corridors designed as best as possible to prevent any possible prisoner's escape. Known today as the bridge of love, it was originally the bridge that prisoners crossed before being put in the prison and from which, sighing, they could see the sunlight for the last time. If you visit the Doge’s Palace you can walk through it.
Paul B — Google review
You can see the bridge from the outside and go on it as part of the Dodge's Palace tickets. It's a section when you visit palace which is amazing
Gaurav G — Google review
The Bridge of Sighs is one of Venice’s most photographed landmarks, and it’s easy to see why. With its elegant Baroque design and rich history, this stunning bridge captures the imagination of visitors from around the world. Spanning the Rio di Palazzo, it connects the opulent Palazzo Ducale to the adjacent prison, creating a stark contrast between grandeur and confinement. The bridge’s evocative name comes from the sighs of prisoners who, according to legend, took one last wistful look at the breathtaking Venetian lagoon before being led to their cells. Designed by Antonio Contino in the 17th century, its delicate white limestone façade and intricate carvings add to its romantic yet melancholic allure. Today, the Bridge of Sighs remains a symbol of Venice’s enchanting past. Whether viewed from the water on a gondola ride or admired from the nearby Ponte della Paglia, it offers a glimpse into the city’s layered history. The legend surrounding it has even inspired couples to believe that sharing a kiss beneath the bridge at sunset will ensure eternal love. With its fascinating story and architectural beauty, it’s no wonder this bridge continues to captivate visitors from all over the world.

Basilica Santa Maria della Salute, also known as the Salute, is a stunning baroque church in Venice. Its iconic domed design and monumental facade by architect Baldassare Longhena make it a favorite among Venetians. Built in 1681 to commemorate the city's survival from a plague outbreak, the church houses important artworks by renowned artists such as Titian and Tintoretto.
A nice place to visit at the Southern part of Venice. A really pretty view too. Personally I’ve sat in front of the whole basilica just to watch the view for more than 30 minutes. Would highly recommend taking a look!
Ozan Ç — Google review
Fabulous and iconic Venetian church, designed by Baldassare Longhena (1598-1682), it looks great inside and out. Its characteristic dome can be seen from many angles across Venice. With the outside newly renovated, it looks better than ever.
Nils P — Google review
The basilica itself is free, so definitely worth a visit. To get a view from the top, you have to go there to scan the qr code to book a slot. There's quite a few stairs up, and it's tight and windy but the view is lovely. However, it is very tight at the top and I think they let slightly too many people go up there. I think half the group size would be much better. Bare in mind too that once you're up there, you can't leave till the tour guide says you can. It's about half an hour up there.
Ben — Google review
This is of course one of the primary sites of interest in Venice and filled with great works by the master Titian. The main altar too is spectacular. The marble flooring directly under the famous dome is not currently accessible and there is some repair work going on. The church is free to enter.
Michael O — Google review
A rather impressive sight from the outside (immersive and very detail, white marble with plenty of details carved), very nicely located for "viewing" all the way from St. Marco. Amazing sight indeed. Rather simplistic in the inside but still a marvel of architecture!
Stelios A — Google review
One of the most photographed objects in Venice but with a rather uninteresting interior. The best light is just before sunrise coming into Canal Grande from the lagoon with the vaporetto.
Sebastian R — Google review
Lovely place, in a fab location. I did the dome tour too, which was good. Make sure you're on time though, cos Mr Man doesn't wait for sluggards! It's a load of steps up, and there are a couple of half interesting spots on the way up, but it's not like going up St Paul's. It's all about the view from the top, which is pretty good, and not too high, but its not a patch on the view from the Campanile (or St Georgio), mainly because you can only look out to the north over the Grand Canal. It's a bit cramped too.

Beautiful domed basilica on the water. The outside is best views in early morning or late evening from the bridge or across the grand canal.

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is housed in an 18th-century waterside palace and showcases a remarkable 20th-century art collection. The museum features a diverse range of artworks, including pieces from renowned artists such as Picasso, Pollock, Kandinsky, Miro, de Chirico, and Dali. Visitors can explore the interior sculpture garden while admiring over 150 works spanning various mediums like drawings, jewelry, photographs, documentaries, and films.
An absolute must when in Venice. The collection is incredible – not overwhelming in size, but perfectly curated so you can really enjoy each piece without feeling rushed. Walking through Peggy Guggenheim’s former home adds such a personal touch, and it feels almost like being invited into her world. The sculpture garden is a highlight – peaceful, inspiring, and a lovely spot to pause before heading back inside. I loved how accessible the museum feels, even if you’re not an art expert, you can still connect with the works and the stories behind them. It’s one of those places that stays with you long after you leave.

I enjoyed Peggy Guggenheim. I am also a fan of contemporary/ Modern Art! I am fascinated at how creative and ahead of their times the artists that she collected were in the 1930's. Get the audio version, the back story helps you understand the relationships that Peggy had (or did not have) with the artists. If you don't like contemporary art, go for the view it is beautiful overlooking the canal or in the garden. Venezia!!! Venice is eternity itself.❤️
Denise H — Google review
A must see when in Venice, totally worth the visit. I also recommend spending the extra €7 (on the steep side, to be fair) for the audioguide since there's an abundance of information regarding the artists and the collection in general (and the collectors themselves, of course). While a small gallery, the switch from garden to rooms to terrace (with exhibits) gives a nice and sophisticated feeling itself. You'll find the chance to see original Kandinsky, Picasso, Dali and Ernest (and many other famous contemporaries). I hope this helps 😊 P.S. while we booked in advance for early morning, there was no difficulty to also purchase tickets there. However, there was much more visitors than we expected, especially this early (first hours of opening).
Stelios A — Google review
A timeless favorite in Venice and one of the most enjoyable museum experiences in the city. Entry was €16 per person, and absolutely worth it. The collection brings together some of the most iconic works of modern art — Pollock, Miró, Magritte, Calder, and of course, Peggy’s own spirit running through the house. The museum is compact but deeply personal, with pieces displayed in what was once her home overlooking the Grand Canal. We started with coffee and a slice of chocolate cake at the café (a bit ordinary, but the view made up for it) before exploring the galleries. Intimate, vibrant, and full of history — it’s easy to see why this is a favorite spot for so many visitors.
Ozge U — Google review
I am not a huge modern art fan but found several pieces that spoke to me. The gardens and terrace over the Grand Canal on the other hand were spectacular. I would have loved to have visited wgen it was her home! I didn’t expect as many steps as there were but was also sore from almost two weeks of walking around Venice by the time I was here. Glad I went!
Catherine B — Google review
Beautiful historic complex by the Canale Grande and quite an impressive collection. They also have temporary exhibitions of good quality. Be mindful though that accessibility is only warranted in the sculpture garden. Everywhere else there’s stairs up and down into and in the buildings.
Gabi G — Google review
Probably the most visited museum for modern art in Venice. To avoid waiting for an hour in front of the ticket office, buy your ticket on the internet. The art is safe, e.g. Mrs Guggenheim preferred to invest in known artists rather than taking risks. Much of the pleasure of coming here is negatively affected by the affluence of visitors. Plan your visit accordingly if you can.

Italian restaurant
Il Ridotto Restaurant is a small and intimate dining spot with just 9 tables, located near St. Marks Square. The restaurant exudes an air of calm elegance despite the bustling tourist traffic outside. Chef and owner Gianni Bonaccorsi offers tasting menus of five, seven, or nine courses featuring imaginative seafood and meat dishes that change with the seasons.
Il Ridotto provided one of the most extraordinary dining experiences we’ve ever had! We chose the seven-course dinner, and every dish was an absolute masterpiece, beautifully crafted and bursting with flavor. From the delicate starters to the decadent dessert, each plate was a perfect balance of tradition and innovation. What truly elevated our evening, however, was the exceptional service from our waitress, Sonia. She was warm, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable, guiding us through the meal with enthusiasm and a genuine passion for the food. Her attention to detail made us feel completely cared for throughout the evening. The intimate and welcoming ambiance of the restaurant, paired with Sonia’s outstanding hospitality and the impeccable quality of every dish, made this a night to remember. Il Ridotto is a must-visit for anyone in Venice seeking an unforgettable culinary adventure!

Had a fantastic meal here, highly recommended. It’s expensive, but very much worth the price - go for lunch if you want the best value. Each course was beautifully presented and delicious. Expect portions to be smaller (plenty!) and the quality to be far above average, with attentive service. Their wine suggestions for local wines were perfectly matched to the meal - I had the Rabbit, my wife enjoyed the fish of the day, and we shared a very nice seafood pasta and a wonderfully simple dessert. Also had a very nice regional Vermouth.

Overall this wasn't a bad experience but it wasn't a star worthy experience, in my opinion. The service was excellent. The room was partitioned so the waiter had to keep popping in which gave the illusion of feeling rushed, but it wasn't. The 5 glass wine pairing was excellent, albeit the pours were light considering the 70 euro price point. The food was mostly uninspiring and safe. The most thought provoking dishes were the fowl ravioli & the ice cream. The potatoes on the rabbit & potato course lacked seasoning. All in all, it was just shy of a satisfactory experience. I left questioning my choice to come here.
Joshua A — Google review
Il Ridotto has an intimate setting and delicate plates, but my experience was mixed. The starters and desserts were the highlights, innovative such as the Negroni with a shark fin garnish stood out as the most inventive touch of the evening. Unfortunately, the risotto was undercooked, with grains still chalky at the core, which took away from the balance of the dish. Dessert was pleasant and well executed a bit Icelandic frozen yogurt inspired The real issue was the service: our dinner stretched to nearly four hours, and I’m not exaggerating. Courses arrived painfully slowly, to the point where other tables finished their meals entirely while we were still waiting. The staff remained polite, but the pacing ruined the flow of what could have been a memorable night. I know the restaurant is run by a father-and-son duo, and while the culinary ideas are promising, the service side still needs serious attention. For me, its a pass in Venice unless they resolve this.

We always go to Il Ridotto when we visit Venice from Australia. Last Tuesday we very much enjoyed the flavour of the lobster and rabbit dishes - such surprising and delicious tastes. I loved the white wine the waiter chose for me, to go with the lobster. It is fun to try the amuse bouche and small sweet things they give you free at the beginning of the meal and with a hot drink at the end. They found some real mint to make tea for my daughter and me. They were so kind. Il Ridotto felt like a peaceful haven at the heart of a very busy city.
Jillian C — Google review
We ordered from the a la carte menu. The lobster and scallops taste amazing. The squid ink pasta is a little too spicy for me, but my mum likes it a lot. The wine is just average tho. The waitress was very helpful, explained the dishes well Good experience overall if you are looking for a quiet place to dine in Venice!
Maggie Y — Google review
We are so grateful to the whole staff for their hospitality. Everything was thought of to the last detail. Can't wait to visit again!
Perspectas — Google review
A really lovely dining experience. I would give it a 4.5 out of 5. We ate from the a la carte menu and it was very tasty. I also had one of the wine trails which was also a nice mix of different white and red wines. This was a really great meal and I would definitely recommend it. When you go to fine dining restaurants you obviously hold it to a very high standard so 4.5 out of 5 should not be seen as a negative at all. The young man who served us was great and very polite. The only negative in this regard was the service slowed a bit as the restaurant got busier but this is no reflection on how good he was at explaining the food and wines etc.

Ristorante Antica Sacrestia is a charming restaurant located in the atmospheric, deconsecrated ecclesiastical buildings of the Chiesa di San Giovanni Novo. The attentive Giuseppe Calliandro runs this special place, offering a menu of traditional Italian fare with inventive flavor combinations. The interior features brick walls adorned with local artworks and religious artifacts, creating a unique atmosphere. In warmer months, guests can enjoy their meal in the pretty courtyard filled with plants.
📍Good location a bit of a walk through the city alleyways, but it's a beautiful walk 🪩 The vibe is amazing and gives you very historic vibes as if you're dining in a castle 🧑‍💼Staff are very welcoming and friendly, making you feel like royalty and the owner is very nice to all the guests 🍝 The food is amazing, I recommend the set menu as the portions are very generous and you get a huge starter - main - salad and dessert (as seen in the pictures). Food quality is on point, and plating is beautiful 🍷 They have a wide selection of wines, some of which are local and pair well with the meals 🤑 Price is good, not expensive at all - Go for the set menu as the price is worth the amount of food you get 💯 100% recommend this place

Beautiful atmosphere. Calm and quiet with an attentive waitstaff that make you feel like you found a hidden gem. The owner/chef stopped by our table to ensure everything was perfect. The gondolas passed behind me as I sat eating. Try the tiramisu! This is what it was meant to taste like. Not sugary sweet but rich and full!!

Tucked away in a quiet spot near San Marco, this charming Venetian restaurant delivered both atmosphere and flavor. They welcome us with a drink. We ordered the squid with polenta and the scampi pasta and both dishes were absolutely delicious. The squid was perfectly tender, with a rich, savory ink sauce that paired beautifully with the creamy polenta. The scampi pasta was equally impressive and flavorful. The setting was warm and inviting, with classic decor that gave a sense of timeless Venetian hospitality. The service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Venetian cuisine in a cozy and elegant setting.

First of all, the service was incredible. We had traveled all day from IOS Greece, hadn’t eaten in 12 hours, showed up at 10pm (close to last call 10:30) and we were treated incredibly. We started with the carpaccio (which I always drizzle a little olive oil, balsamic and a pinch of salt). It was very yummy. My partner had the Langoustine in Tomato sauce and I had the Salami/Prosciutto/Mushroom pizza (ask for the chili oil). Both were delicious. Oh get the house red. It’s light and delicious! The garden seating was charming and romantic. 5⭐️s all the way.

We checked into Venice around 6 pm and dragging after a long few days in Paris. Our hotel recommended them, and since they were a short walk from us, we went there. Incredible food!! Service was exceptional, funny, and nice. Spaghetti carbonara was amazing, pizze was exceptional, lasagna incredible, calzone delicious, and OMG the Tiramisu. We will return before we head off to Rome in a couple of days. Oh, excellent wines as well.

Such an incredible night! The Owner and staff work hard to create an authentic and memorable experience! Beautiful and clean restaurant! We trusted Joseph and he took our menus and brought out incredible dish after incredible dish. True Traditional Venetian food!! It was our last stop before heading back to the US after a month in Italy and what a way to end it!! First my wife and Shared a seafood platter of local caught shellfish next, we both had an incredible clam pasta then, each of us had a whole fish with the traditional grilled polenta cake with mixed grilled veggies (so good). We were stuffed at this point but had to get one last tiramisu before leaving Italy and it did not disappoint!! We shared a bottle of local a White wine, and throughout the entire meal they kept bringing out complimentary digestifs. You will not leave hungry or thirsty!! We’d come back to Venice just to eat here and experience the wonderful food of Ristorante Antica Sacrestia one more time!

Bar Ducale is a popular spot in Venice, known for its great coffee and soft, white crustless tramezzini sandwiches. It's a favorite among locals and gondoliers, offering possibly the best brioche and coffee at incredible prices. The place is perfect for grabbing a quick bite to eat or enjoying drinks by the canal bridge. The staff is accommodating to English-speaking tourists, and the food comes out quickly.
Pastries, sandwiches, coffee - all exceptional. I went out of my way before heading for the train station to buy a Pasticciotti to go. It is just perfect. You must stop there.

Tiny café with no seating and not much to choose from. Honestly it didn’t look like much at first, and my son was a bit skeptical. We each had a chocolate croissant and a cappuccino. The cappuccino was great, but also the tiniest one I’ve ever had. The real surprise was the croissant: warm, fresh, and seriously good. We went in with low expectations and left happy. That said, the staff wasn’t particularly friendly.

We stopped by every day for a morning Cappuccino and a sandwich. At times we had them to go (a 0.50 euro surcharge) and sometimes we stayed just outside, watching the gondolas pass by. The staff was accommodating to English speaking tourists; some sandwiches were served hot (warmed up in the microwave before serving) but we didn't expect them to be all fresh from the kitchen/oven, the place is very small. One morning I had too many things to carry back to room and one staff member offered a tray to carry everything, and asked to have it returned afterwards. I didn't use it but I appreciated the thought. I would have no problem going back again while in Venice.

Had both breakfast and lunch here. So local experience all the gondolieri as they stop in for their morning fix. Enjoyed fresh croissant with cream filling. Partake in the ham/formagio and the veggie spinach/formagio calzones. Not cheap, but not bad either understanding Venice prices. Highly recommend stopping by for an expresso.

Rosa Salva - San Marco is an elegant cafe and pastry shop located in Campo SS Giovanni e Paolo, offering a unique version of the fritola called fritola col buso. This delicacy is known for its airy texture from prolonged fermentation and flavorful taste from high-quality raisins. The historic bakery, established in 1870, has been mentioned by Donna Leon and offers incredibly delicious cakes and pastries crafted through six generations of experience.
This boutique hotel was great - the rooms were clean and very nice. We loved opening the windows and taking a peek out! Also attached to a delicious bakery made it very convenient for morning breakfast/coffee. Location was not bad with all of our luggages traveling from water--taxi/train. Highly recommend and would stay here again if traveling in Venice.

Great central location and neat, comfortable rooms. The air conditioning is centrally controlled so the fan can be noisy and you can't do anything. The rooms are pretty compact although you still get a good sized shower. There's an attempt to still give you a breakfast of sorts but it's not really worth it to be honest. The historic cafe next door is a great experience, delicious pastry and coffee to start a day of exploring Venice and you get a little discount for staying at the hotel.

We stopped for a coffee and air-conditioned space :). Lovely restaurant with a large selection of sweet and savory snacks. The people behind the cafe were so rude, I do not understand italian n had problem understanding. We made 2 orders instead of combining them. This did not make them happy. There r lots of other places with good food nearby
Manjit K — Google review
At the pasticceria, part of our order was an apricot and a pistachio croissant. Each of these croissants had only a dab on top and no filling... first place that ever did this as all the other places had filling. Second, the croissants were not as fluffy as they should have been. Lastly, we paid with a 100€ bill and the cashier put the bill under the drawer where it appears they keep the big bills. She then pulls out change for a 50; we point out that we gave a 100 and she makes a remark that we're not patient since she still had to take a 50€ bill from under the drawer for our change. The point here is that she could have taken the 50€ bill when she put the 100€ bill there, so it appears that she was trying to pull a fast one.

Day 3

Off the beaten path
For day 3, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Giardini della Biennale. Not quite as popular as Teatro La Fenice, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 8 hours.

Garden
Giardini della Biennale is a serene garden in Venice that not only offers a peaceful retreat but also hosts art exhibitions and national pavilions designed by renowned architects. With a history dating back to Napoleon's era, the gardens became closely associated with the Biennale exhibition at the end of the 19th century. During this event, around thirty pavilions from different countries showcase an array of artworks.
Compared to the rest of Venice, I found Giardini to be incredibly peaceful. Unlike much of the city, it's lush with greenery—trees, flowers, and open spaces. There are plenty of benches, and I enjoyed watching birds and butterflies flutter around. I came for the Biennale, but it was the tranquility of Giardini that truly impressed me.
G S — Google review
Amid the bustling canals and throngs of visitors that define Venice, the Giardini della Biennale offers a breath of calm. This leafy enclave, tucked along the Bacino di San Marco, isn’t a destination for grand botanical wonders, but its quiet charm and historical roots make it a worthy detour for those seeking respite. Originally marshland transformed by Napoleon into public gardens, the space now serves dual purposes: a peaceful retreat and a cultural hub. Its winding paths lead visitors past 30 pavilions, each representing a different nation and showcasing architectural flair from icons like Carlo Scarpa and Alvar Aalto. Though the structures truly come alive during the Venice Biennale Art Festival—when global creativity takes center stage—they retain a quiet magnetism year-round. The gardens’ unpretentious beauty is amplified by quirky details: feral cats lounging in sunlit corners, the stoic gaze of Garibaldi’s statue at the entrance, and a serene coastal walk that skirts the water’s edge. These elements stitch together a patchwork of tranquility, a stark contrast to the nearby chaos of St. Mark’s Square. Yet, for all its understated appeal, the Giardini della Biennale remains a “nice-to-have” rather than a must-see. If your Venice itinerary is packed, you won’t miss a life-changing experience by skipping it. But for those with moments to spare, it’s a gentle reminder that even in a city overrun by tourism, pockets of stillness—and a few curious cats—still endure.
Peter K — Google review
Beautiful location for the biennial art and architecture Biennales. At the Giardini are most of the national pavilions. At the 2025 Architecture Biennale I was particularly impressed by the US and Scandinavian pavilions with the former focusing on the porch in US architecture with great examples like Ocean Grove, New Jersey and Chautauqua, New York. The Greek pavilion was impressive as well with a focus on the two Venetian shipyards on the island of Crete. The Israeli pavilion was closed for renovation as was the pavilion of Venezuela, designed by Carlo Scarpa (1906-1978) who also designed the original entrance pavilion to the Biennale.
Nils P — Google review
The bienalle for architecture is both mind blowing and overwhelming. The 2025 installation was very focused on climate change, global growth and usage of resources and how materials/technologies are used for global problem solving. It is important to go in with an open mind and time to process the information. Some countries and exhibits are better than others in terms of interpretation and information. For the year 2025, the beauty is in the details. The exhibition u Is not about architecture as many think of it, but rather about elements of architecture. And, if you are not comfortable with the English or Italian language, you will likely be lost and confused. It is wise to get the three-day pass and break up your time to allow the ability to process the density of information. There are many restaurants and cafes in the Giardini but in the main bienalle exhibit in the arsenale area there is only one large cafe and restaurant. Be sure to download area maps before you explore to get a good sense of place and understand the exhibits before you explore. The water taxis will bring you to the main stops for arsenale and giardini.

Tucked away just around the corner from the bustling St. Mark’s Square, the Gardens of the Venice Foundation (Giardini della Fondazione Venezia) are a true hidden gem—a quiet haven of greenery and tranquility in a city better known for its canals and narrow alleys. We stumbled upon this secret spot during our visit and ended up spending a wonderfully peaceful hour here, simply relaxing with an ice cream and enjoying the natural beauty. The gardens have an interesting history, originally part of the private grounds of a noble Venetian palace. Today, they are one of the few green spaces in the historic center, offering a rare escape from the crowds. The well-maintained paths wind through a delightful mix of Mediterranean plants, shady trees, and blooming flowers, creating an atmosphere that feels worlds away from the nearby tourist hotspots. One of the most enjoyable aspects was the sense of seclusion—even though we were only minutes from the heart of Venice, the gardens felt almost undiscovered. The benches and quiet corners make it an ideal spot to pause, unwind, and soak in the beauty of the surroundings. For anyone looking for a moment of calm in the midst of Venice’s energy, this is the perfect place. Whether you’re escaping the midday heat, looking for a quiet place to read, or simply wanting to appreciate another side of the city, the Gardens of the Venice Foundation are well worth seeking out.

This is a gorgeous garden in Venice and super peaceful. It is nice to sit down and take a break or stroll around and see the different flowers and greenery. It is in a prime position right near the water and eateries nearby too.

This was my second time in Venice, and visiting the Giardini Reali truly felt like a refreshing escape in the heart of the city. I spent almost two hours here, simply enjoying the flowers, their scents, the peaceful walkways, and the calm beauty of it all. It’s a quiet, green corner filled with life, color, and charm, a wonderful experience on its own. Whether you're a nature lover or just need a break from the busy streets of Venice, this garden is an absolute gem worth visiting. ♥️

Beautiful gardens! It was so nice to see such beautiful green gardens since we’d been in stone cities for several days.

Lovely gardens which offer some well needed shade. Sadly the park is often really busy, so it's sometimes rather difficult to find a place to sit down.

“Tiny green escape in the heart of Venice—surprisingly refreshing! 🌿” Stumbled upon Giardini Reali just behind Piazza San Marco, and it instantly became my go-to oasis in the city. With shaded benches, pergola-covered walkways, and a lovely view of the lagoon, it’s the perfect spot to recharge between sightseeing bursts . Unexpected calm: Even on busy days, the garden’s tucked-away location makes it feel almost secret—perfect for a pause with a book or a snack . Lovely design touches: A restored 19th-century greenhouse, drawbridge to Piazza San Marco, and the longest wisteria pergola in Venice give it both charm and elegance . Free and easy access: Open to the public, and ideal for hanging out while you wait for the vaporetto at Giardinetti stop. No tickets, no rush .

The Giardini Reali in Venice, also known as the Royal Gardens, offer a serene escape from the bustling streets of the city. These historic gardens, originally created for royalty, boast lush greenery, vibrant flowers, and tranquil pathways perfect for leisurely strolls. Visitors can admire the elegant statues and fountains scattered throughout the park, while enjoying panoramic views of the Venetian lagoon. Whether relaxing on a bench or exploring the hidden corners, the Giardini Reali provide a peaceful retreat and a glimpse into Venice's regal past.

I really liked this small cozy garden located near the center. There is a lot of shade, many benches to rest after a walk, and beautiful flowers around (I was there in the middle of July). Here you can hide from the scorching sun. The road is paved with small stones.

Museo Correr is a lavish museum in Venice that houses an impressive collection of Venetian artworks and antiquities dating back to the 13th century. Founded around the collection bequeathed by Teodoro Correr in 1830, the museum is housed in a building with significant historical and architectural importance from the Napoleonic and Hapsburg periods. The neo-classical influence is evident in its architecture, decor, frescoes, and furnishings.
Nicely laid out and some amazing stuff. There is so much to see in Venice so hard to justify staying inside, but this museum has some very novel stuff about the shaping of the region and world i is worth at least a look for the parts that will interest you. The globes and maps are fantastic.

Venice is a unique and historic city in northeastern Italy, famous for being built on over 100 small islands in a lagoon of the Adriatic Sea. It has no roads, only canals and pedestrian alleys, making boats and gondolas the main modes of transport. Key Points: 🏛️ Founded in the 5th–6th centuries, Venice grew into a powerful maritime republic by the Middle Ages and Renaissance.

An interesting museum to visit if you have the extra time in Venice (or if the ticket is included in the bundle for the tour of St. Mark's cathedral and Doge's Palace). Has some noteworthy exhibits (especially considering the manuscripts, weaponry and the globes) from around the world. The showing is not following any reasonable order however, it is not a bad stop to spend an hour or so, given the chance (especially in rainy Venice 😉). It had nice views to the square (only that worths it). P.S. we spent a surprisingly long time on a map of Cyprus which was rather accurate and had all the towns and villages - that alone was an amazing artifact (we are from Cyprus, a part of the Venice empire for many years, so this was more special anyway however, this was amazing generally - it was an amazing map and very detailed, anyone would appreciate).
Stelios A — Google review
A former royal palace with some state rooms, this is a city palace that gives a flavour of the halter of Venice, its Doges and the empire they used to run. Filled with artefacts and artworks, with access the the library and Archaeological museum on the same tour. Highlights include works by Canova, such as Icarus and Daedalus, as well as coins, paintings, weapons and statues.
Michael O — Google review
I very nice museum if you have any extra time. Has lots of great pieces including old coins dating back to 1500 BC. They also have a collecting of old weapons and swords. This museum isn’t particularly busy or popular so no need to book tickets in advance.
Vince.K — Google review
It's pretty grand and there are lots of things to see. You could easily spend 2hrs if you look in detail. I did not take any pictures of weaponry but it was extensive - if you're a fan, you'd probably like it, but some were similar to what you could see from Doge's Palace.
Pandaz — Google review
Brilliant Museum, opposite to St Marks Basilica. It has 3 small museums in the same location. We got the combined family tickets for the Dodge's Palace and the Museum. We booked it the day earlier. You will need to pick the time of your visit when booking the tickets. We got there 40min earlier, and they let us in. Guessing they are stricter with the time when it is very crowded. When we went it wasn't too busy so maybe it was ok. It said no pictures allowed, but then I saw people taking photos and no one stopped them so I took a few too. Think the no photos rule maybe applicable during busy days.

If the entry fee is included in your package - it was with ours to the Basilica and Doge Palace - definitely take an hour or so and go through. It gives you a much better idea of Venice's history.

Mercato di Rialto

Fresh food market
The Rialto Market, located beneath the Rialto Bridge in Venice, is a historic and bustling market that has been operating for almost a millennium. It consists of two sections - the main produce market and the Rialto Fish Market. Visitors can explore stalls offering fresh seasonal fruits, vegetables, cheese, Italian cured meats, fish, and seafood. The market provides an authentic Venetian experience and has been a vital reference point for locals throughout history.
Mercato Rialto offers an experience you won't find in other parts of Venice. You can buy fresh fish, fruit and vegetables to your taste. If you want to smell the aromas and experience the real market atmosphere, I recommend coming early in the morning when the crowds are not yet there and the whole place comes to life. However, be aware that it is closed on Mondays and Sundays.
Peter S — Google review
Clearly past it's glory days, but still has an atmosphere and uniqueness that makes it worth a visit. A noticeable number of 'tourist tat' stalls amid the fresh fruit & veg and fish stalls. You can still imagine what it would have been like to visit and do your shop when it was thriving though. Great people watching!
Lucy — Google review
A nice market in the heart of Venice. There are some amazing and unique fish on display, along with food stalls, fresh vegetables, souvenirs, and more. Prices are on the expensive side.
Hila — Google review
We always seek out the local markets and buy food for our dinner when we travel (we cook dinners in our AirBnB). Great seafood selection and the produce was bountiful! The reason for the 4 vs 5 stars is that there are several of the tourist t-shirt, trinket and souvenir stands as well. To be honest, Venice is full of these but we were so hoping to escape them a bit at the market.
Lisa W — Google review
If you’re visiting Venice, then besides the obvious sightseeing spots, you absolutely must visit the city’s most famous market. Here you can find everything — and see where local restaurateurs buy their fresh fish, seafood, vegetables, fruit, and much more. In our opinion, it’s an essential place to experience, and we highly recommend going early in the morning. The market is officially open until 3:00 p.m., but vendors start packing up shortly after noon.

Rialto Market is a true gem in Venice! The vibrant atmosphere, the freshest seafood, and the colorful local produce make it an unforgettable experience. It’s the perfect place to soak in the city’s culinary culture and see where Venetians shop for their ingredients. Whether you’re looking for the best seasonal fruits or just want to enjoy the lively market scene, this is the place to be. Highly recommended for anyone who loves authentic food and local traditions!

Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca' d'Oro is a 15th-century palace located on the Grand Canal in Venice. Originally known as Palazzo Santa Sofia, it was designed by architect Giovanni Bon and his son Bartolomeo. The palace's facade, which once boasted exquisite gilt and polychrome embellishments, has now faded to pink and white.
Very nice museum, lots on display. It has a very nice collection of ancient and antique artifacts. Lots of famous painters have their artwork located in here. It has many lovely statues, mini figurines, and artwork. The building has very lovely architecture and you get a wonderful view of the grand canal. I would definitely recommend checking out this museum.
Pong L — Google review
While Baron Franchetti’s personal art collection may be a matter of taste, the elevated front-row views of the Grand Canal — now unrivaled since the closure of Fondaco dei Tedeschi — are truly the highlight. Through the lacework of Gothic arches, you're treated to an intimate view of the bustling Grand Canal. It's rarely crowded, so you can linger as long as you like. For just €7 more, you can opt for a combined ticket that also grants access to the unique and impressive Palazzo Grimani — effectively halving its €14 entry price.
CityScrolls — Google review
The place is crawling with demons or ghosts. With such a creepy history (owners' suicide, etc.), coupled with the eerie, asymmetrical design, the place is truly spine-chilling. You can't go inside, but I wouldn't even if I could. However, being close to such a genuinely creepy place is an amazing feeling! Before visiting, you should definitely thoroughly study its history to understand what it is and why it is the way it is.
KARMA L — Google review
This was an exquisite and private place. The owner, who never lived there, spent a lot of time personally laying the marble mosaic floor and collected beautiful paintings and statues. It has a great view of the Grand Canal. The story is poignant and touching. Recommended.

What a magical place! Especially near closing time! It's right next to a vaporetto stop, from which you get a nice front view of the magnificent facade. Upper floors are down for renovation l, that will last till 2026-27. Right now, only the courtyard with the stairs and mini garden are open for 3 euro. Still worth it! You can gaze at the Grand Canal through the lovely stone windows. Do keep in mind to look out for high water( I easily checked from a vaporetto too). Do give yourself plenty of time to just sit at the stone benches and marvel at the beautiful work if the craftsmen and the Baron himself! Like I said, the blpalazzo is in a busy area, but once inside? It's haven! And it was during peak season! Enjoy!

Amazing space and art gallery. Went in on the afternoon on the 4th February. Hardly anyone in which was incredible considering how busy Venice was due to carnival starting. Was great to have the place virtually to myself enjoy the place and art and get away from the crowds Managed to get straight in, no queues, nothing. Worth 6 euros

Cantina Do Spade is a charming, wood-paneled bar located in the San Polo neighborhood of Venice. Tucked away on a narrow alleyway en route to the Rialto Market, this historic cicchetti bar dates back to 1415 and is named 'two swords' after an ancient duel between noblemen.
We just had the best meal we have had in Venice/Italy (we were in Rome for 2 days) & such great service! The house Pinot Grigio and Gwertztraminer were lovely & light, went beautifully with our appetizers, mussels, calamari, and spaghetti & prawns! It's a little hole in the wall and got very busy by 8pm, but don't miss out on this place!
Oriana S — Google review
Food is fine but not cooked carefully… The meatballs were almost raw (see picture) and the rice of the risotto was very hard. It’s a shame beat cause the taste was good. Waitress was friendly but the service was very expeditive, felt like they wanted us to eat fast and leave fast. Overall I was disappointed.
Karim K — Google review
Very friendly staff. Tasty food and plenty of cicchetti choices. Good wine too. Small price. If you want to eat here as properly restaurant, I really recommend to book in advance. Very busy during the weekend.

We went into this restaurant for lunch as it had a good selection of fish dishes. I was very pleased to see they had some local Italian wine to choose from on the menu. The first staff member that served us was very friendly and helpful. Towards the end of the meal another member of staff took our food away and when they came to bring the coffee they slammed it onto the table. It was surprising as we were a mixed Italian / English group and had spoken Italian throughout the meal. The fish was tasty and the texture of the calamari was delicious. A nice restaurant but mixed staff attitudes
James T — Google review
Although there were a lot of people here for the cicchetti, the food here was absolutely delicious and was the best meal I had in Italy! The seafood was so fresh and delicious. I didn’t have a reservation for lunch but went around 12:30pm and was able to get seated. Highly recommend the mussel stew which I didn’t get a chance to take a picture of. The squid ink pasta and fried calamari dishes were divine. Highly recommend if you’re in the area!

Food was great - ordered the spaghetti Alla busara and Frittura mista which came promptly, and tasted fresh. We also ordered a risotto at the beginning which never arrived and when we asked after half an hour, we were told bluntly (without checking with the kitchen) "it's coming". When it hadn't arrived after over an hour and two other tables near us who arrived after our first two dishes came out, already received and finishes theirs, we cancelled the order only to find out it was never placed. The staff were apologetic but we found the overall experience frustrating.

Cafe
Caffè Florian, established in 1720 as "Alla Venezia Trionfante - In Venice Triumphant," is an iconic 18th-century cafe that has hosted a myriad of distinguished guests throughout its history. This elegant establishment has been frequented by noblemen, intellectuals, and artists such as Carlo Goldoni and Casanova.
Cute cafe with a lot of history. Prime seating outside in the square. Drinks are 15 euro each+ Dessert is 20 euro each+ Cover fee 7 euro each While it seems crazy, it makes sense given the location, included music by extremely talented violinist and celloists, and because people average one drink and sit there for an hour. Great spot to listen to great music, absorb the art of the square, and escape the heat!
Albert K — Google review
Nice cafe with a lot of history. It’s had a lot of famous guests through its doors and has been in continuous operation since 1720’s. Our experience was a pleasant one, we decided to sit outside due to the good weather conditions and the live music that was playing and managed to get a view of St.Marks Square from our table. Thing to note is that you do have to pay a charge for siting outside while the music is playing of €7 per person. I feel this is a little steep as a small family that is seeking to attend could end up paying nearly €30 before they have even ordered anything. We ordered two cocktails at €24 and €25 each along with a cappuccino which cost €12 and the waiter brought complimentary crisps and water for the table. This added with the €14 music charge resulted in a total of €75. A little expensive for what we had but with the atmosphere and location the cost of the drinks can be expected. We were served quickly and after our order was taken it arrived about 10 minutes later. When we arrived there were only about 2-3 tables available so it was somewhat crowded. We ventured inside to where the small rooms were located to have a look around and view the little shop which sold snacks and merchandise. The decor of the interior is very impressive and has managed to keep its charm from its beginnings it seems. If you’re after a couple of drinks while in the Square I would recommend however if you’re not directly in the area there are other places that will offer a similar experience at half the price.
N W — Google review
Yes the atmosphere is nice, yes the location is good and music amazing. But I still think that the prices are too high for that. Also it would be good to say in advance that during summer they have other kind of tiramisu and not the classic one. Generally it was good, but not worth 42€ for one drink and dessert. You can just sit nearby and still listen the same music for free.
Taisiia D — Google review
Such a delightful place that looks really grand! Delicious food and sweet treats! The cappuccino was incredible! Highly recommend despite the hefty bill. ("When in Venice"... right?)
Wolfshot_k — Google review
A must when you go to Venice! It is a 7 euro cover charge per person for the music. But worth it for the vibes at least just one time ahha the Apple tart was the best pastry I’ve ever tried! And I just got some tea to go along with it. The music was nice and the cafe was beautiful. It was like 65 euros for 2 teas and a pastry so make sure you come knowing that this will be the most expensive cup of coffee or tea you’ll ever have. Haha
Monserrath F — Google review
Caffè Florian in San Marco Square is one of those rare places where history, elegance, and atmosphere blend into an unforgettable experience. The moment you step inside, you’re transported to another era—the interior is refined, romantic, and steeped in Venetian grandeur, with gilded details and antique charm that make simply sitting there feel special. The live music adds a magical touch to the setting. Listening to the ensemble play as the piazza glows outside is nothing short of enchanting—truly the soundtrack of Venice. As for the treats, the "Sunrise Cake" was absolutely delightful—fresh, bright, and beautifully balanced. And the signature "Florian Spritz" is a must-try: refined, refreshing, and unique, a perfect Venetian indulgence. While most offerings shine, the chocolate cake was a rare miss for me—surprisingly flat in flavor compared to the rest and slightly overbaked. Despite that small hiccup, Caffè Florian remains a timeless Venetian icon. Come for the beauty, stay for the music, and savor the flavors that make this historic café so special. A quintessential Venice experience.
Christos I — Google review
When in Venice, might as well sit at their square and enjoy the live music and drinks- their Prosecco was best. The evening musicians do have their varieties, and take requests where possible for discretionary 20 euros. Seeing they had clarinet, violin, piano and bass, I requested for Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin but sadly this was not possible. Still enjoyed listening to many of their music. Went back on our last day during daytime, did not disappoint.
Rie R — Google review
Came here to experience one of the oldest coffeehouses in the world, operating since 1720. We sat inside, where there’s a cover charge of €7 per person. There’s a live orchestra playing outside, and although we could hear a little of the music from our seats inside, we couldn’t really see them perform. The drinks are on the steeper side — I ordered an €16 cold coffee cream (Frozen Florian) and was surprised to see it was about the size of my palm. Nevertheless, it’s worth visiting this café at least once in your life for the experience, though I probably wouldn’t come back a second time.

Vini da Gigio

Venetian restaurant
Vini da Gigio is a refined, family-run trattoria in Venice that is well-known for its classic Venetian dishes and an extensive wine list. It's recommended as a great place for a sit-down meal, offering traditional Venetian cuisine enriched with unusual ingredients. The restaurant is famous for its masorini (wild duck) and moeche (soft-shelled crabs available in spring or fall).
We had a wonderful experience. The food was very good, the crab pasta was outstanding. This is a real restaurant owned and operated by a family which is un uncommon in Venice.

We had an unforgettable dinner at Vini da Gigio in Cannaregio. The octopus with pumpkin was absolutely delicious, the tagliolini with spider crab was a true revelation, and the linguine Malamocchina style had a perfectly balanced, slightly spicy kiclllpWhat really impressed us was how this meal felt like an escape from the overly touristic side of Venice — here we enjoyed genuine, authentic Italian food that exceeded our expectations. My wife and I were thrilled with everything we tasted. No surprise that locals recommended this restaurant to us — and we couldn’t agree more. Highly recommended!
NIKOLAOS T — Google review
A warm, elegant restaurant perfect for a special dinner — we celebrated our anniversary here. The staff were incredibly kind, especially our waiter, who turned out to be married to a Turkish flight attendant and chatted with us warmly. Everything we tried was delicious: oysters, grilled octopus with pumpkin, baby calamari, and crab pasta. Two glasses of white wine, tiramisu, and prosecco to finish — the meal cost €132, and it was worth every cent. Refined yet unpretentious — one of the best dining experiences we had in Venice.

Had an awesome experience in this typic venetian restaurant. Ambiance was great and service really amicable. Food was really good and wine selection is exhaustive. Perfect restaurant away from the crowds and perfect if you’re looking for an authentic experience.

I came here because I was looking to have an experience with the fegato alla veneziana AKA venetian style liver and onions and found them highly recommended through my Google research. Honestly, it was a life changing meal - I never knew liver and onions could taste this good. The liver was so soft and flavorful. With that said, I usually do enjoy liver, and my fiance who hates liver tried it and noticed it was good but he still didn't like the texture/ taste of the organ meat as he kept chewing it. My fiance had a pasta dish - perfectly cooked. The table bread was better than it looked, but it doesn't come with any butter or oil, so I used the bread with my delicious dish to soak up all the flavor and enjoy it more fully. I'm not a big dessert person, but the tiramisu was very good also. The service was excellent! We were very lucky to get there last open table without reservations as we rushed to get there right when they opened, but probably would recommend having a reservation ahead of time as we watched them turn away several unreserved customers while we were eating.
Natalie P — Google review
Returning here after more than 30 years, we were delighted that Vini da Gigio is still run by the same family and the food is still wonderful. Everything is done well: sardines in saor, tagliatelle with truffles, the fritti Misti is a triumph - not showy just sparkling fresh and fabulous. Order sole al brachio and they take it off the bone for you in the traditional way. Lovely bread, fairly priced wine and above all the great atmosphere of a well run restaurant that continues to care about food, customers and Venice. One of the best!
Lynne F — Google review
My husband and I love this restaurant. After regularly visiting Venice for many years, and having a number of favourite restaurants, we found Vini da Gigio a year or so ago, after some careful research to add somewhere new to our regular list - we’ve always loved Cannaregio sestriere, though more recently we’ve been getting to know San Polo. Vini da Gigio is splendid; the food is wonderful (one of the few places that can tempt me to 3 courses - and my husband to the full 4!) - I literally still think about a beautiful stuffed gnocchi I had last year! The wine list is magnificent - we really love wine and being able to enjoy wines that may not be available to us in the UK. We’ve always had excellent service and, in particular, enjoyed really interesting conversations with the owner’s son and the opportunity to learn more about the culture and cuisine of Venice - which is, for us, the most important aspect of the privilege of travel. This has become a special place for my husband and I. We are looking forward to savouring another leisurely lunch when we are next in Venice. Highly recommended.

The most average restaurant I’ve been to in my entire life, and for 80€ per person. Wouldn’t recommend a single thing I had. Maybe the oysters and the wine, but they didn’t really have to do much with those. The service was good though.

Delicious gelato! Best I've had in Venice so far! And they we're open after 9pm, which was surprisingly hard to find. I had the Brutto e Buono flavor (chocolate and hazelnut). The chocolate dip on the cone was warm and amazing. Definitely recommend!

I ordered classic gelato (no topping) in cup with dark chocolate and pistachio. I would say pistachio gelato is the best i’ve ever have so far. The taste of pistachio is strong but it would be 10 out of 10 if it has less sweet in it. I also went back to Milano and ordered pistachio again since it was sooooo good. The panacotta one is also good. Recommended!

A chain I would normally avoid when choosing somewhere, but. The 4.8 score vs 6k+ reviews I felt I should try it. It did not disappoint, I think it’s the nicest ice cream I ever had. Get something with chocolate.

A chocolate lover’s paradise right in the heart of Venice. The shop smells incredible the moment you walk in, and everything looks like it’s been crafted with care — from the pralines to the spreads. We spent around €42 on assorted chocolates and a jar of “chocolate cream,” and it felt worth every euro. They also treat new customers to a free chocolate and give discounts for future visits, which is such a nice touch. Elegant, generous, and full of that Italian sweetness done right.

It doesn't matter if you miss the Doge's Palace, the Rialto Bridge, or Murano, but you simply cannot miss the Venchi ice cream shop. The best ice cream in Venice, perhaps in the whole world.

Basilica S.Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, also known as The Frari, is an impressive Gothic-style church in Venice. Despite its simple exterior, the interior is a treasure trove of art and history. Visitors can admire works by Titian, including the Assumption of the Virgin and marquetry choir stalls crafted by Marco Cozzi. The church also houses Canova's pyramid mausoleum and Bellini's Madonna with Child triptych.
“Absolutely stunning—an art lover’s dream with soul ✨” I was blown away by the grandeur and atmosphere here. The exterior may look humble, but once inside, the soaring Venetian‑Gothic arches, massive stone columns, and serene ambiance make it feel like a hidden cathedral gallery .

Absolutely beautiful Basilica in Venice that is worth visiting. It is a wonder of architecture and houses some amazing artwork including Titian's impressive Assumption which is above the altar. If you are visiting Venice, this Basilica is well wort the visit.

It's nice to see the skill of humankind in the building of the Basilica, the many sculptures and paintings and the love of preserving and restoration. We are not religious, so to us, this is a place to appreciate the skill of the artisans. The entrance fee is fine and we were treated kindly by the staff. It would be nice to have an audio tour to learn more about the various works of art and the history and meaning behind them.

Loved this beautiful church. Very unique. We wandered the streets trying to find it and of course walked past it but came back as we saw the tower. The art is incredible. The tombs were informative. The fact that this is a Franciscan church (the Venetian term for Friars in Frari - sounds a bit like Ferrari) gives it the plain facade and you can see the tension of trying to keep things simple and the larger church’s imposition of grandiose art. A couple of unique items with the clocks.
Randy H — Google review
The church might not look like much from the outside but it is really unique and impressive from the inside. It's worth the 5 euro entrance fee. The staff is very friendly. There are audio guides available. There is plenty of artwork to contemplate in many unique styles.

One of the great churches of Venice. Burial place of Titian and Canova, housing great monuments to them and some of the doges. Filled to the brim with monuments that would comprise a whole museum. Especially interesting is a statue by Donatello.

The Tintoretto Scuola Grande di San Rocco is an ornate 16th-century art museum in Venice, Italy. Originally a confraternity, it now showcases the works of the dramatic Renaissance artist Tintoretto. The building itself is emblematic of the city and houses valuable pieces such as 'St. Roch cures the plague-stricken' and famous works depicting the lives of Jesus and the Virgin Mary.
Interesting history. Most of the paintings were very dark in color. Be careful of your steps. Recommend using the provided mirrors upstairs to view the ceiling paintings.

This is one of the great highlights of the whole of Venice. Some absolutely stunning rooms, including the main chamber, a side chapel and an upstairs treasury containing gold and silver. The painted ceilings and carved walls are breathtaking. They are simply unmissable and unmatchable.

Great museum for art and history lovers. The artwork is masterful and the museum peaceful. The floors are original and little to no restoration so far, therefore you need to watch your step because you can easily trip over especially the ground floor. There are 4 floors to visit, the 1st floor being the main attraction.
Hitesh P — Google review
The Scuola Grande di San Rocco is a stunning showcase of Tintoretto’s brilliance. His vast cycle of paintings fills the halls with dramatic light, movement, and spiritual intensity. Walking through feels like stepping inside a Renaissance epic. It’s one of Venice’s most powerful and unforgettable artistic experiences.
Giulia B — Google review
This is a gem of a space. It may be diminutive in square footage but your response will not be to the epic scale of Tintoretto’s paintings. His brilliance spans the walls, ceiling, staircases offering gasp after gasp coupled with moments of reflection when considering it took over 20 years to complete this visually cohesive work of the Venetian Renaissance.
Christopher H — Google review
This museum is both incredibly impressive, quiet, contemplative but is also cool on a hot summer's day - this is October, mind but still very pleasant. The art is incredible, so ornate, so talented, even the carved books on the bookshelves - the tiled floors, the Tintorettos, the lanterns and the friezes - amazing

The Grand Canal in Venice is a must-see attraction, offering a unique perspective of the city. Instead of opting for an expensive gondola ride, taking the Vaporetto 1 waterbus from P.le Roma to St. Mark's Square provides an affordable and scenic alternative. The journey offers stunning views of Venice's palazzos, iconic landmarks like the Rialto Bridge and Salute church, as well as glimpses of luxurious hotels along the canal.
Mesmerising Grand Canal of Venice (Venezia) is dream land with exceptional breathtaking views. Highly recommended to take a Vaporetto ride or Gondola ride in Grand Canale. Heart line of Venice main canal splashes beauty on both shores with great restaurants and buildings.

Nothing quite like it. For travellers, this body of water represent life, entertainment, livelihood, connection to ea SH other, services and beauty. So much history, so much beauty! At night time it glitters colours and lights from different establishments. During the day it becomes a guide, a marker for people to follow and wander to their destination. Venice and Grand Canal, where nature and people’s ingenuity combine.

The Grand Canal is the heart of Venice—beautiful palaces lining both sides, gondolas gliding by, and vaporettos buzzing through. Whether you take a boat ride or just admire it from the bridges, the views are absolutely unforgettable.

This waterway runs the entire length of the Lagoon of Venice! There is much traffic on the waterway: water buses, water taxis, gondolas and private boats and amazing to see how they navigate it all. I purchased a 3-Day Water Bus pass and it allowed me to enjoy the beautiful views, massive buildings, Rialto Bridge and exquisite architecture of all the other buildings along the waterway.

It was amazinggg, We loved it.We took the gondola and it was a great experience. We paid 90€ in total for three people. The price does not change depending on the number of people. It is the same whether there are five people. The 30 minute gondola ride is priced at 90€.Definitely take a walk around the back streets, this is essential to understand the spirit of Venice. And definitely eat at more local establishments, it's cheaper and more original.

Line 1 of the vaporetto is Venice’s best show. If you’re lucky enough to get the seats beside the pilot cabin, you feel the city open up: the thrum of the engines, the vibration of the deck plates, the water slapping the hull, and palazzi lit like stage sets as you glide past. Rialto was once the world’s trading floor, where goods from East and West were landed — and you sense that weight of history even now, slipping under its arch by night. A vaporetto ride is Venice’s greatest souvenir: not bought, but lived.

Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Pantalon is a modest 17th-century church in Venice, known for its remarkable artworks. The church's unfinished facade sets it apart, and inside, visitors can marvel at the largest oil-on-canvas painting in the world. Covering the entire ceiling, this enormous work depicts the martyrdom and glory of Saint Pantaleon.
This place feels more like a church than a museum—a truly peaceful and spiritual experience. It’s free to visit, and when we went, there weren’t many people, making it a quiet and great spot to rest after walking around Venice. We also had the chance to pray, which made the visit even more meaningful. The ceiling paintings are absolutely stunning, and we appreciated the priest’s tip to stand in the left corner near the entrance for the best view and photo. Our only regret is finding this place late—after just 15 minutes, the priest kindly asked us to leave as the church closes at 12 PM. So, be sure to plan ahead and include this gem in your schedule!
Galyna T — Google review
This church is a bit of a secret stunner. There is an incomplete exterior, however the interior contains a vast painting on the ceiling, with immense perspective. It is as if there is no roof to the church, and it continues on to the height of a skyscraper. Added to that are, as normal for Venice, a series of altarpieces and artworks by the great renaissance masters.
Michael O — Google review
The church is truly a breathtaking masterpiece, both inside and out. From the moment you arrive, its architecture captures your attention — a perfect blend of elegance, history, and spiritual beauty. The exterior features intricate stonework and tall, graceful spires that reach toward the sky, creating an inspiring sense of awe. As you step inside, the warm glow of sunlight streaming through the stained glass windows fills the space with color and life. Every detail, from the polished wood pews to the ornate altar, reflects remarkable craftsmanship and reverence. The atmosphere is serene and welcoming, inviting you to pause and reflect. Even if you are not particularly religious, it’s impossible not to feel a sense of peace and wonder here. The acoustics are wonderful as well — when the choir sings, their voices seem to float through the air like a divine echo. Whether you’re attending a service, exploring the architecture, or simply admiring the artistry, this church offers an unforgettable experience. It stands as a true landmark — a place where beauty, faith, and community come together in perfect harmony. Visiting this church isn’t just about seeing a building; it’s about feeling inspired by something greater. **(205 words)**
Manu G — Google review
Unremarkable exterior but worth visiting for the painted ceiling alone. Seemingly the largest work on of art on a canvas, incredible illusionistic effect. Photos don’t do justice. There’s a Veronese in one of the chapels too.
A T — Google review
Very low-key from the outside, incredibly beautiful in the inside. Be respectful when visiting as it is a working church: dress appropriately and be quiet. For Catholics: the relics of Saint Pantaleon are preserved there.
Kaffitreff — Google review
It is worth a visit. See the amazing art and history from the old times. Do some readings about the building and you will be enjoying to see and know about the history of the building. Beautiful, quiet, a bit hot but i had my hand fan with me.
Hasna H — Google review
The Chiesa di San Pantalon may look modest from the outside, but inside it stuns with one of Venice’s most spectacular surprises: a massive ceiling painting by Fumiani, depicting the Martyrdom of St. Pantalon. Spanning the entire nave, it creates a breathtaking illusion of depth and movement. A hidden gem for lovers of Baroque drama and artistic ambition.
Giulia B — Google review
Don’t be fooled by the plain exterior — step inside (it’s free), take a seat (you’ll need it) and maybe give your neck a quick stretch in anticipation of what’s to come. Then look up. The entire ceiling is one overwhelming masterpiece: saints and angels in a swirling, dramatic ascent, seemingly bursting right through the roof into the heavens. It’s the largest painting on canvas in the world — stitched together from 40 panels — and took Gianantonio Fumiani 24 years to complete. Talk about devotion...

Located in the Dorsoduro neighborhood of Venice, Italy, Ca' Rezzonico is a palazzo and art museum situated on the Grand Canal. Originally built by the Bon family in the 17th century and designed by renowned architect Baldassarre Longhena, it now houses the Museum of 18th-century Venice.
Absolutely outstanding museum and cafe and location!!! For so many reasons!! 1.) the ATVO water bus has a stop right next door! Super convenient to get to via the canal and a lovely walk too 2) an OUTSTANDING collection of 18th century art and furnishings and great history cards in each room that explains the history and much of daily life 3) interesting history of the property, both in origin and more recent as Robert Browning and Cole Porter both leased and lived here 4) THE BEST lunch location!! There is a simple but delicious cafe on property and they have hidden waterfront seating. Just ask the friendly bar staff in cafe if you can sit outside and they will show you way. (And it’s very reasonably priced!)

A lovely old house converted into a museum with ceilings by some of greatest Venetian artists. Upon entering one is met with a vast painted hall, of sublime quality and design. On the same room are a set of state rooms with art, furniture and other items. I especially enjoyed the tapestries, though they are in need of a clean and some restoration. The upper floors are galleries. There is one statue of a veiled lady that is particularly impressive.

A masterpiece of Venetian Baroque and Rococo architecture, the palace now serves as the Museum of 18th-Century Venice (Museo del Settecento Veneziano). It was originally commissioned in 1649 by the noble Bon family and designed by the renowned architect Baldassare Longhena. However, construction was halted due to Longhena’s death and the Bon family’s financial difficulties. In 1751, the palace was acquired by the wealthy Rezzonico family, who completed it in 1758 under the direction of Giorgio Massari. Since 1936, the palace has been open to the public as a museum showcasing the art, culture, and daily life of 18th-century Venetian nobility. Visitors can explore opulently decorated rooms, period furnishings, and works by artists such as Tiepolo and Longhi, offering a vivid glimpse into Venice’s golden age.

The bistro's interior features unique furnishings made from reclaimed materials, adding to its authentic Venetian atmosphere. With a focus on fresh seafood and classic Venetian cicchetti, Estro provides an extensive array of over 700 natural wines, predominantly organic and biodynamic.
Lovely food with great service and selection of wines. The highlight dish were the specials of the day, which was the local razor clams, cooked very simply but super fresh. Also really loved the ‘venetian-style’ starter. I think the slight letdown were the desserts as we tried non-traditional dishes, which were okay and unfortunately didn’t impress as too much.

Phenomenal spot for dinner. Each plate is not only beautifully prepared but has a great taste to it. The wine pairings really accentuates each dish’s flavors and kudos to the staff for finding some good bottles to connect the food with. This dinner and the ambience inside is a great date night, dinner while visiting Venice as tourists or anything else in between. All will love it.

Had the tasting menu here - all good to excellent but lacked a certain something. I’m not sure Italian cooking overly suited to small plates to be honest. Worth a try. €65 euros for 3 courses and dessert. Ok value I suppose.
A T — Google review
Tucked away from Venice’s tourist flow, Estro Vino e Cucina delivers a lunch experience that feels like it belongs in the Michelin conversation. The dining room strikes a balance between modern and rustic: sleek lines, warm wood, and a subdued hum that lets the food and wine take center stage. We opted for the tasting menu, which opened with an amuse that was elegantly plated. A standout pasta course featured handmade noodles with local seafood, the sauce: briny, slightly sweet, with just enough depth to coat without overwhelming. The pasta was al dente perfection, with a silkiness that carried the flavors of the sea. Vegetables were treated with equal reverence: a layered dish of seasonal produce showcased acidity and crunch. Even the simplest elements felt intentional, from the interplay of oils and herbs to the way acidity lifted each bite. The wine program is serious here, with a curated list of natural wines. The staff guided us toward pairings that were spot-on, crisp whites highlighting seafood salinity, mineral-driven pours elevating the vegetal notes. The service staff was knowledgeable. Lunch at Estro was memorable, refined, and deeply satisfying. Highly recommended.

A restaurant with an impressive selection of wine. The food was good - above average. I had the poached egg with porcini and cheese foam which I adored. The egg was slightly under-done. The Russian salad with crab was good, if a little bit too smothered in mayonnaise, and the monk fish was a little overcooked.

I booked a table and mortgaged my credit card online. But when I walked into the restaurant, they repeatedly confirmed whether I had a reservation or not. When I sat down, no one greeted me and gave me the menu. Most of the dishes were not explained, especially desserts. I can't believe they brought me cookies from the supermarket and said "from their mom's kitchen?" A restaurant with no advantages.

So first thing you see her is a handwritten note on the restaurant signage which says „no fish“ which is funny because the name of this place means bollard or bitt which is a pretty maritime term so… but in fact here they serve meat in many variations and pasta. It’s a tiny space hole in the wall easy to miss despite google maps but the location is correct so don’t worry if you don’t spot it immediately. The service was very friendly with the exception of one female staff memberwho basically slammed the menues on the table and left, returning only about 10‘ later to ask for our orders. Not very kids friendly meaning you have to order pasta without sauce iif your kids don’t eat plain meat, we spent about 60 EUR for pasta for 3 kids! The food was excellent including the pasta which our kids loved. We had the artichokes bottoms with cheese sauce for starters which were delicious. Then we chose the sliced beef sirloin with rosemary and baked vegetables which were also great. Classic desserts included tiramisu and panna cotta which were also flawless. Small but well selected choice of wines, spirits and digestives (try the locally made Amaro Laguna Nord which is made with algae and it’s actually really good).

i really wanted to try gnocchi in italy - so my boyfriend found this spot known for it! i ordered their tomato & cheese gnocchi, lamb chops and an appetizer with ham (?). unfortunately, i wasn’t a big fan of their gnocchi :( it tasted extremely soft. it was softer than their mashed potatoes that came with the lamb chops LOL. maybe i’m just not that familiar with pasta texture but it tasted off to me :(. the wait for the food was long too despite us being the only customers… but ambience was great - quiet and cozy!

We were in Venice for 3 days are here first and last day of our trip and regretted not going for our 2nd dinner. The food was so incredible we had to have two mains our last night knowing it would be our last time here. Whatever you do, GET THE PANACOTTA DESERT! It was AMAZING and to die for. We were lucky to go in without reservation as soon as the place opened for dinner service both nights but do make a reso to be safe. We had our Airbnb close by and saw them having their menu meeting and once I saw a chef walk in with his knife set I knew this place was authentically Italian. It did not disappoint, we were blown away each time and the service was nothing short of incredible. Thank you La Bitta, you made us love Venice that much more ❤️

This place is fantastic! We spent several days in Venice and planned a meal here just because they offer a menu with no seafood. It's not a large place so I'd recommend reservations. We started with the carpaccio which was delicious! I had the lamb chops which were superb. Others in my party got the veal and pasta. They reluctantly shared with me so I can attest that everything was delicious. Honestly, they got started on theirs so fast I never got a chance to photograph their plates. Their panna cotta was supposed to be a pretty big deal (not a panna cotta person myself) so a member of my party tried it. The waittress said it was the best thing in her life as she grabbed her hips and gave us a shake. My friend was not disappointed. I had the tiramisu and it was amazing. This place is a must if you travel to Venice. Super high-quality ingredients, a disciplined kitchen, and friendly, invested staff. Actually, great restaurants like this one are few and far between in Venice.

Nice flavors from the dishes Veal Liver & Veal Cutlet (23 & 26 euros) we ordered. Presentation of the dishes is lacking as you can tell from the photos and portion size is small. However, we felt like they did not care that we were comfortable or enjoyed our meal. We were seated in the back corner of the backyard. Within a few minutes after we ordered, we felt a horde of mosquito attacking us. It was so uncomfortable after 15 min, we considered leaving. They did not have space to move us inside since those tables were reserved. Also the maitre d' seems apathetic to our plight "with those mosquitos are everwhere in Venice". However, a restaurant has to use some mitigation efforts to make their customers comfortable like using a fans, remote standing water in flower pots, and offer customers bug repellent. We were in & out in 35 min.

The restaurant is among the seven 1-starred establishments in downtown Venice, offering exceptional wine lists and daily changing menus based on fresh ingredients from the local fish market. Despite its international reputation, the understated atmosphere and simple decor create a quiet elegance that sets it apart.
It’s a long time Venice institution and has held a Michelin star for decades as well. While, to me, the finesse is a bit excessive and I prefer the older homey approach, Da Fiore is undeniably an amazing restaurant and is a beautiful option for a special night out with your loved one. There are plenty of Venetian staples, refined and made lighter and more upscale here, as well as plenty of new inventive dishes, less typical but still steeped in tradition. The crab meat was delightful, the cod (baccala) amazing as it can only be in Venice, the eel with herb sauce and bitter lettuce beautifully balanced and the tuna fresh and clean, made in a Cesar / panzanella style. The wine list here is amazing, the markups sometimes a touch high but it is a luxury restaurant in the end. As I said before, a gorgeous place for a special night out. Love it.

Excellent service and atmosphere. We tried local dishes - fish mousse and prawn on Rice Bubbles - they were both so interesting and amazing! Other dishes were great too!

This is one of the quintessential restaurants in Venice! The food is traditionally venetian but subtle in preparation & presentation; the service is impeccable and yet personal and the atmosphere is intriguing, the dining room gives the cosy warmth of a private club. The menu shows much, much more I want to order than I could possibly eat in one (even two or three) evening(s). My wife and I had "Scampi rosolati al lardo" & "Baccalà mantecato", the we shared "Tagliolini scampi e radicchio rosso" and the "Tagliata di tonno" & "Coda di rospo su crema di broccoli" and "Zabaione" and every single dish was beyond compare. We are looking forward to our next visit to Venice and the food & hospitality of the "Osteria Da Fiore".

Although we hadn't booked on what was a very busy evening, they kindly accommodated us. Delightful restaurant with a wonderful bay 'window' area looking over the canal for two couples lucky enough to experience. Food absolutely next level, served by highly knowledgeable and expert team. Worth every Euro.

Early this year, I saw a TV show on Venice and they featured an upmarket seafood restaurant and interviewed the head chef and owner Mara Martin. They featured a local oyster and I was hooked (pun intended) so I booked. It was very special. The way they looked after the kids(we were a group of 7, 4 adults and 3 children under 10) was second to none. The food was spectacularly delicious, service attentive but not pretentious, everything was simply spot on. The oysters were on par with anything Aus can dish up. I asked if I could meet Mara. Of course they obliged. I have the pic to prove it. This experience was a holiday highlight. If you’re reading this because you’re not sure about booking a table. Do it! Now!

Nestled in the enchanting Dorsoduro district of Venice, the Gallerie dell'Accademia is a treasure trove for art lovers and culture seekers alike. This museum, set within a beautifully restored former convent, boasts an impressive collection of Venetian masterpieces from the 13th to 18th centuries. Visitors can marvel at works by iconic artists such as Titian, Tintoretto, Canaletto, and Bellini.
We were very lucky to see it all, 20 euros per person ticket and you can buy it inside. Massive amount of art on display and at the time we was there not busy at all (11.00) highly recommend. Beautiful bridge next to it with amazing views.

We embarked on our Italy tour in the enchanting city of Venice. Beyond its captivating canals, gondolas, and numerous cafes, Venice is steeped in rich Renaissance history. It stands as the ideal destination to delve into the lives and beliefs of the early to late Renaissance period. The collection at the Gallerie dell'Accademia boasts masterworks from renowned artists like Tinteretto, Titian, and Hieronymous Bosch, among others. Given the extensive collection, allocating more than a day to explore it thoroughly is highly recommended.

One of the great Italian Galleries, which must not be missed. Filled with the works of Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese, Bassano, Bellini and many others. One of the less appreciated rooms but nonetheless best works here are by Hieronymus Bosch. There isn’t much variety, in the most pieces are from churches, but nonetheless these works are masterpieces and the collection as a whole deserves to be recognised as the best works of the florentine renaissance artists.
Michael O — Google review
Gallerie dell’Accademia — a quiet encounter with the spirit of the Renaissance The Accademia Gallery in Venice may not be the largest museum in Italy, but it is certainly one of the most significant. It holds an extraordinary collection of Venetian paintings from the 15th to the 18th centuries — masterpieces by Titian, Veronese, Tintoretto, Bellini, and rare works by Hieronymus Bosch. For some reason, as in every museum in the world, crowds always gather around Bosch’s paintings. His enigmatic visions seem to draw people in and hold them captive. The museum itself is quite compact: if you move quickly, you can see it in about an hour or so. But to truly appreciate the details, colors, and atmosphere of each painting, two to three hours are ideal. There’s something deeply moving about seeing the works you’ve only known from books and reproductions come alive before your eyes. The light, the shadows, the brushstrokes — all remind you that Venice is not only the city of canals and gondolas, but also a cradle of art that changed the world.

This was a beautiful Gallery. We didn't get the audio and we should have to understand the works better. Did not realise the Vitruvian Man it behind a screen for 20 minutes and is then displayed for 20 minutes to protect it. Photos can be taken but no flash.

Centuries of incredible Venetian art! A must when you are in Venice! They have art featuring Caliari (his version of the last supper is incredible & my favorite), Bellini, Tintoretto, and many others, and Canova sculptures that are simple incredible.

Museo Fortuny, located in the Palazzo Pesaro degli Orfei, is a captivating museum dedicated to the multifaceted artist Mariano Fortuny. The museum showcases his diverse talents in stage and textile design, photography, painting, and fashion. Visitors can explore the former home and studio of Fortuny, adorned with his luxurious fabric designs and a personal collection of artworks and objects from his family's travels.
It is a really nice museum, with amazing art. The staff are really welcoming, and helpful. They’ll guide you very friendly. The temperature inside is totally pleasant, specially if you’re visiting the city in hot summer season. The museum is very close to the city center and it’s located in beautiful narrow lanes of Venice. It’s just a matter of few steps. You don’t need to book in advance you can get tickets right away with no waiting.

Very glad we went to this museum, and we only did so because it was included in the Venice museum pass. The fresco in the sitting room was impressive, and the other paintings, fabrics, and photography were interesting. Would say this is a hidden gem.

The palace is incredible with its rich tapestries, original furnishings, architectural models, and evocative costumes. I went there with a friend of mine and we bought the audio guides but they were difficult to follow, especially because we had difficulty finding the right guide for each room. I'd definitely go again but with a human guide.

A very quirky and interesting museum, founded in the home of an artistic businessman. This museum contains lots of artwork associated with the festival world such as paintings, tapestries, sculptures and models. Well recommended for a couple of hours, though beware that there is a lot of stairs climbing.

A highly interesting museum devoted to the Spanish born, multifaceted artist Mariano Fortuny, spanning over a wide field from painting to photography via tissue printing and theatre scenography. One of the most complete and successful artist-businessmen of the 20th century, displayed on the first and second floors of his private home and workshop. On the ground floor there is a separate section for temporary exhibitions.

It’s a great museum- you can see everything in about an hour, but I recommend taking your time. There are many interesting paintings and sculptures. The Fortuny family was incredibly talented and had a remarkable eye for art.

The Clock Tower, a Renaissance structure dating back to 1499, offers stunning city views and features a mechanical clock adorned with symbolic decorations. Situated in St. Mark's Square, it is surrounded by iconic landmarks such as the Basilica di San Marco, Torre dell'Orologio, Campanile, and Doge's Palace. The square itself is grand and during autumn or winter months, it may be flooded with wooden platforms allowing people to move around.
The Torre dell'Orologio or clock tower was designed in 1496, has 5 floors and 132 steps, parts with a spirral staircase. You need to book a tour to enter. I got tickets from torreorologio.visitmuve.it For timings purpose please note that you will need to collect tickets at the ticket office of the Correr Museum at the other end of the square, so arrive early to get to the ticket office and pass through security and bag check. The guide was very good and made it very enjoyable and still informative. Inside you can see the intricate mechanism, inspired by the Zodiac, along with wooden icons that only emerge from the clocktower twice a year. The central part of the tower has the the clock, whose face shows the phases of the moon and sun as well as the signs of the zodiac. At the top is the Lion of St. Mark and a statue of the Madonna, this is part of the famous Two Moors Bell. An added plus is the excellent views you get from the rooftop.

* the sound of the bells are fantastic, you can hear it all over the town. * You can have the best view of tower clock from the balcony of the second floor( upstairs) of "Saint Mark's Basilica" church. * I think it's need the renovation and better maintenance.

This is one of the most famous architectural landmarks in Venice. Located in the Piazza San Marco. This building and the clock tower is from the 15th century. Stairs inside the building give you access to the terrace on the roof, passing the clock mechanism on the way. If you wanna sign up for a tour, it must be booked in advance.

Clock tower, better than Prague's? I believe it is more legendary than the one in Prague. For sure it is much larger and it is very iconic. One of the most famous architectural landmarks in Venice. This clock is on Piazza San Marco. The Clock tower installed in the 15th century. There are stairs inside the building to climb it. tours must be booked in advance, and are well worth it!

The Clock Tower in Saint Mark’s Square, Venice, is a marvelous example of both engineering and artistic craftsmanship. Located beside the basilica, it has stood for centuries as a landmark that keeps time for travelers and locals alike. Its intricate design and historical significance make it a must-see attraction. I highly recommend taking the time to admire this fascinating piece of Venetian heritage.
Murillo P — Google review
Built between 1496 and 1499 by Maurizio Codussi in the Renaissance style, the tower was designed to help Venetian merchants and sailors keep accurate time. At the time, it was a marvel of engineering—symbolizing time, prosperity, and the glory of Venice in one striking structure. The large clock face displays 24-hour time, zodiac signs, and lunar phases, all set against a deep blue and gold background. Above the clock is a golden statue of the Virgin Mary with the baby Jesus. On special occasions, figures of the Three Wise Men emerge and pass by the Madonna in a charming mechanical procession. Above them sits the winged lion of Saint Mark, the symbol of Venice, reinforcing the city’s identity and power. At the very top stand two bronze figures known as Moors, one representing youth and the other old age. They strike the bell every hour. Historically, the clock tower even housed a full-time clockkeeper who lived inside to maintain its mechanisms.
Seokjin H — Google review
The time can be seen. A renaissance marvel. The statue's hand even moves and hits the clock each hour.

Very interesting tour (English ) to Clock tower. Our guide Aga was super funny and even 2 teenage kids enjoyed the tour. A lot of information, funny and interesting way to present it, not overwhelmed by dry facts. Amazing to be behind the clock that is still working. Views from the top are spectacular. Well worth the money. Our tour was 1hr long. Paid much more attention to both man striking 2 min before and 2 after the hour. 5 stars.

Hotel service was top notch, rooms were large, modern, and the best I’ve had in Europe. Just down the street from the pier to catch taxis or water transportation travel between the hotel airport, and Venice was very easy. Location around the hotel was walkable and had beaches, great restaurants and was very nice. Was very pleased with this choice for my trip to Venice.

Beautiful Art Nouveau hotel centrally located on the Lido. Come here to see the stars during the annual film festival. Fantastic breakfast available even if you are not staying at the hotel. Great swimming pool and great rooftop bar. Wonderful staff.

We really enjoyed our stay at Ausonia Hungaria. It's a hotel with class and that old school service you see in the movies. The staff in the reception were friendly and attentive (and upgraded our room for us without us asking, which was nice). The room was super clean and modern, and had a very comfortable bed. We really enjoyed the breakfast service as well, and we made good use of the facilities including the outdoor bar, the pool and the Lana Gaia (Thai) wellness centre in the basement where we enjoyed full body massages. The hotel is in a great location, Lido di Venezia is a chilled neighbourhood (except for when the film festival is on). Getting around it was nice, we had a great walk along some of the island, and getting to the other parts of Venice was easy. We can only think of a couple of small things and they really are small as we loved the hotel overall. The pool was very cold, nice when it's super hot probably but not so nice otherwise. Also, if you are in one of the front rooms, if there is a party at the front bar outside you will be able to hear it a bit even with the windows closed (we were on the 4th floor). Finally, for those who need pitch black rooms, we suggest you bring an eye mask as there are lots of switches with little lights in that mean the room isn't totally black. Overall, we loved the hotel and look forward to returning.

We stayed in room 401 which was a corner room with a view towards Venice however the size of the room was very small. The check in experience was okay, I don’t believe the hotel would check in before 2pm, at least they didn’t in our case, but we expected that so no issue. We were assigned room 401 which was a corner room, however the room was very small. Every morning after 5am we were woken up by the loud noise outside (sounded like some heavy machinery operating around the hotel) and when I reported this to the reception they were very indifferent and all they wanted to point out is that the noise was not coming from inside the hotel. The breakfast was very limited and repetitive, overall a subpar experience especially if you think that this is supposed to be a 5 stars hotel. Also we asked for an iron in the room and the response we got was - “impossible” - and the person from reception had the audacity to say that no hotel in Italy would provide an iron which we know for a fact that it was not true. We understand that some hotels might not be able to provide it due to health&safety concerns but there is a way to explain it to the Guests. They also have a very strange housekeeping practice where they knock late in the evening to ask guests if they want the towels replaced. I would expect that some might already be sleeping and were woken up by this practice. On the positives, the hotel is conveniently located within 5 minutes from the Lido Vaporetto and it looks impressive from the outside. To sum it up, the hotel does not provide 5 stars services by no standards, considering the level of service offered by the staff, three stars would be more realistic.
Dani B — Google review
Not a true five-star experience Although this hotel is officially rated five stars, the experience feels to four stars, and in some areas, not even that. Pricey (above 300 usd) but quality regular. To start with something positive, the mattress is very comfortable, which made for good sleep quality. However, the pillows were unbearable, too firm and flat (similar to those used in the 90s). When I asked for replacements, the new ones arrived with an unpleasant smell, which made things worse rather than better. The bathroom design is extremely impractical. It’s separated from the bedroom by a transparent glass wall, which already compromises privacy, and the lighting system makes no sense: it’s motion-sensor activated and turns on automatically every time someone walks in. This means that if you use the bathroom in the middle of the night, the entire room lights up, waking up anyone sleeping. The gym is a complete disappointment. It’s tiny, poorly equipped, and only open from 11:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. by reservation. So If one prefers to exercise early in the morning, this schedule is absurd. The limited size of the gym is understandable, but the restrictive hours make it practically unusable for tourists who want to use the day to wonder after 10-11. The breakfast was the biggest letdown. It’s not a buffet but a fixed set of items brought to the table, and unfortunately, the quality is poor. The breads were hard and flavorless, the salmon tasted cheap, and the cheeses were dry and unappealing. The pineapple was fresh and good, but that’s about it. For anyone lactose intolerant or with dietary restrictions, the options are almost nonexistent. When I asked for goat or pecorino cheese (in Italy), the waiter said they only had regular cow’s milk cheeses. Considering this is supposed to be a five-star hotel, and breakfast is not cheap, it’s simply unacceptable. There are many cafés nearby that offer much better quality for the same price or less. Overall, while the hotel looks polished on the surface, the details and guest experience fall far short of five-star standards. With better attention to comfort and an improved breakfast, it could live up to its rating, but for now, it doesn’t. The staff at the front desk were kind.

Had a wonderful 4 night stay at the hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is wonderful on the Lido. Although the room was on the small side it was comfortable and well appointed. Not European enough to appreciate the glass wall on the lavatory. We both had massages in the spa and the staff were great. Took us a couple of days to realize the hallway rugs were maps of the island

A stay at Ausonia Hungaria is nothing short of enchanting. From the moment you step through its grand Art Nouveau façade, you’re transported into a world of elegance, calm, and impeccable style. The hotel’s historic exterior — a masterpiece of Liberty-era design — gives way to beautifully refurbished interiors that blend classic Venetian charm with sleek modern comfort. Service throughout is exceptional. Every member of staff seems genuinely proud to work here, offering polished, friendly hospitality that feels personal without ever being intrusive. The rooms are pristine and stylish, with supremely comfortable beds, high-quality linens, and thoughtful touches that make each return to your room feel like a quiet luxury. And then there’s the breakfast — truly unforgettable. Served in the hotel’s sun lounge, a light-filled orangery overlooking the garden, it’s an experience that feels indulgent yet wonderfully relaxed. Morning sunlight streams through the glass as you enjoy an exquisite spread: freshly baked pastries, local cheeses and cured meats, bowls of vibrant seasonal fruit, silky yoghurts, smoked salmon, and eggs cooked to perfection — all accompanied by a chilled bottle of freshly squeezed orange juice. The coffee is excellent and always served with a smile. It’s the kind of breakfast that makes you want to linger all morning — unhurried, elegant, and utterly restorative. The location, on the Lido di Venezia, is ideal — just a short stroll from the vaporetto stop, meaning you can reach St Mark’s Square or the Grand Canal in minutes, yet return to the hotel’s calm, leafy surroundings at the end of the day. The tranquil pool and spa add to the sense of escape, offering a peaceful retreat from the bustle of Venice. In every way, Ausonia Hungaria captures the spirit of refined Venetian hospitality. It’s grand without being pretentious, luxurious yet welcoming, and every element — from the radiant breakfast orangery to the elegant décor — speaks of care and quality. If you’re seeking a hotel that combines history, style, and heartfelt service with a truly exceptional breakfast, Ausonia Hungaria is a shining example of five-star perfection.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An Unforgettable Stay – True Luxury with Heart and Style Our experience at Ausonia Hungaria was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the seamless blend of modern luxury and timeless charm that makes this hotel so unique. Every detail, from the stunning decor and artwork to the exceptional service, exceeded our expectations. Our room was spacious and elegant, featuring multiple windows, a large closet, and a beautiful mix of modern and artistic design. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a perfect night’s sleep, and the bathroom was spectacular — grand in size, spotless, and complete with a heated towel rack that added an extra touch of indulgence. The combination of comfort, beauty, and thoughtful amenities made us feel truly pampered. We cannot say enough wonderful things about the staff, who were friendly, professional, and attentive in every way. A special mention goes to Fabio, who was an absolute delight and quickly became our go-to for anything we needed. He was always smiling, eager to help, and offered great recommendations that enhanced our stay immensely. We were invited to enjoy cocktails on the rooftop, where the ambiance and view were spectacular. The hotel’s decks, design, and decor are remarkable — every space feels artfully curated and full of character. The Hollywood memorabilia throughout the hotel adds a playful and fascinating touch that makes exploring the property a joy in itself. The food was both beautiful and delicious, presented with care and flair. Each meal felt like a special occasion. Every interaction we had, from dining to spa inquiries to simply passing by the reception, was met with genuine warmth. Staying here truly made us feel like royalty. Ausonia Hungaria is far more than a hotel — it’s an experience. Elegant, welcoming, artistic, and full of soul. We left feeling completely refreshed and already dreaming of our next visit.

Stopped in for some lunch on a sunday not expecting much (not that the indian food in italy is bad by any means!) but considering i’ve grown up eating it as an indian myself i was simply ready to just have a meal with familiar tastes if nothing more but i was amazed at how good the food truly was and how authentic it tasted and to find it here in Lido of all places was a great surprise! hands down some of the best indian food i’ve had in the world! i got the chicken jal fry with garlic paratha! will definitely come back again! 12/10!!

It was amazed to know that it’s only the Indian restaurant. However, got to know that food is cooked by Bengalis boys.. The taste was not that Indian type. However, to have a taste change and to try similar to Indian food you all can join. Being a India and eating and spend time at this place I would definitely recommend to visit for the taste change. Buddha Soul is an Indian restaurant located on the Lido Island, just a short boat ride away from Venice. The restaurant serves tasty, good quality and authentic food, one of the best in Venice, Indian food from all over India. The large menu has many vegetarian, non-vegetarian, and vegan dishes, including starters, breads, curries, and a variety of interesting thalis to try. There are also some innovative deserts, along with Italian and Mediterranean dishes, which include falafel, couscous, tofu, and Seitan dishes. The setting is relaxed and the service is friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable, and they also offer takeaway. The Lido Island also makes a refreshing and relaxing change from the crowded, winding streets of Venice, where you can swim or enjoy time on the beach before visiting Buddha Soul. If you want a good Indian meal then it’s worth making the effort to take a trip out here, as the food, service and prices are all better than at Ganesh Ji. But be aware that they don’t offer tandoori dishes.

Food was super great. All the staff members are very kind and very friendly. Really great place. It is bit time taking to reach Lido island from the main Island. But, it is totally worth coming. Prices are reasonable. Food was very clean and hygienic. Only problem was the glasses and utensils are kept on the table and hence, the dust from the road may accumulate on them. Other than that, everything was excellent.

The Indian food for me personally, is not authentic at all. It is blunt, the curry had no taste. The pad thai was so spicy. Also very very expensive for food which tastes like pre made, microwaved food, in packets. Also they did not ask how the food was after eating otherwise I would have said it was not good. I am just writing my honest opinion here like I always does. For me was an exaggerating price for this food.

It holds a significant place among the many establishments in the square and has been frequented by notable figures throughout history, including Stendhal, Lord Byron, Alexandre Dumas, Wagner, Marcel Proust, and even modern-day actors and directors attending the Venice Film Festival.
Of course, had to try this once recommended on the show Remarkable Places to Eat, simply because of the history. Chef Fred takes viewers to Quadri in San Marco square, where he explains why there’s white bow ties and black bow ties (seniority which can take 10+ years). It’s €10 to sit outside and have a cappuccino, plus whatever else you might like to enjoy. HOWEVER, here’s a hint! Walk up to the bar side of the restaurant, choose to stand, and you can enjoy your drinks and nibbles at a fraction of the cost and still enjoy a moment understanding the history. I spoke with a waiter, black tie, and he told me he’d been there over 20 years. His sidekick, white bow tie, only 2 years. Sit where revered artists, poets and writers sat, and soak it all in.

Went here for breakfast. The menu was quite limited- many variations of pastries and croissants but no eggs. Only if you get the breakfast packages which were quite expensive and filled with other items that I didn’t want to eat for breakfast. The croissants were crisp and tasty but for some reason came in a prepackaged plastic bag. The outdoor experience is nice but the tables are very uncomfortable and not easy to sit together. The inside atmosphere is a totally different and beautiful vibe. However they didn’t let us sit in the bistro area unless we ordered food even though we had just had breakfast and wanted to have another cup of coffee in the airconditioned room. It was also almost completely empty inside so we didn’t understand why they refused to sit us there. We had another coffee at the bar. The interior decor is amazing. The waiters are very polite and the service is very classy. It was pretty expensive though.

This place felt like an overpriced tourist trap. We ordered a spritz and a coffee with ice cream, and each cost around €20 (as shown on the bill). It was a very hot day, so we decided to stay and have our drinks. They did provide some nuts and chips as snacks, which seemed like an attempt to justify the high prices. Overall, the experience was okay, but the steep costs left us a little disappointed.

I just ordered an espresso at the counter. It was a noble place that made me want to come back for cocktails next time. The man who makes the cafe is look like an actor (handsome) but unsociable.I was disappointed.

Tourist trap. Even though this is expensive, the service was the worst. Many waiters just standing there looking far away. Had to waive like 10 times to get someone’s attention that wasnt clearly doing anything. Drink is basic, you basically paid for the view which is free. The concerto only pay attention to guest who gives tips

Came here at around 10pm but after seated for 15 mins, no waiter come to give us the menu nor take our order. We went out to ask one of the waiters he said he doesn’t serve our table. Finally we waved to find the one who asked us to seated and was told we can only order drinks. Drinks came fast afterwards. The couple next to us waited around 30 mins to get their bill. The tomato non alcoholic drink is very bad btw. The restaurant next door was better.

We came here after visiting the Basilica & Doges palace. The sun was out, and it was our 20th wedding anniversary so we decided to spend a little extra and enjoy the atmosphere of St Marks square! We spent a few hours here and it was nice just to relax and watch the world go by! The live music was very pleasant in the background, it's not cheap but worth paying for the experience.
Rob E — Google review
A great place in the evening with live music. The atmospher, the drinks are just benissimo! 🤌 People in the comments complain about prices, but they have no one else to blame but themselves - everything is clearly written in the menu. Take-out & sit-down pricing is standard practice in Venice! The prices are worth it for the live music alone! On top of that, you are sitting, as Napoleon put it, in the Drawing room of Europe in one of the oldest cafes in Venezia! If you want cheap drinks and food - make it at home 😃 The drinks, the staff, the service, and of course the musicians are trly amazing! Just relax, enjoy, and forget about your bills for one night. Thank you 🙏

Bar
Cantine del Vino già Schiavi, also known as Cantinone, is a legendary tavern located in the atmospheric tangle of alleyways and canals near the Academia Gallery. This 19th-century bacaro offers a fine selection of wines to take away, but it's recommended to stop at the old-fashioned marble bar and enjoy local red or white wines along with a marvelous array of cichetti.
My favorite bacaro from the ones I got to explore in my 4 days in Venice. As a vegetarian, I had plenty of options. The price is fair for the quality if cicchetti. I went there twice and each time I had two servings because it was just too good. If I come back to Venice, this would be my first spot. They’re nice enough to also warn you about the seagulls and cover your plate with a napkin if you decide to eat outside. Really really fantastic!

Wine, Cicchetti, and Atmosphere to Savour - Right on the canal, this spot serves a great range of excellent-value wines by the glass. The cicchetti were a fantastic bonus for us (see photos): tuna with horseradish, lardo with honey and chocolate, smoked salmon with mascarpone. My late mother would have loved it here — sipping her wine, soaking up the atmosphere, and quietly working out the relationships of the folks around her. They are all clear about what is not on offer.

Whao, Whao, Whao! I’d seen this on “Somebody feed Phil” and was keen to try it whilst I was in Venice. Believe me - for lunch this is perfect. It’s a bit off the beaten track and if you go around lunch time be prepared to wait, but the wait’s so worth it. They serve cicchetti, little tapas like bites but don’t let any Venetian hear you call them tapas! They serve every mixture you can imagine. Lots of fish and cheeses involved. My personal favourite was the Gorgonzola and pear. Great for a lunch. We had 9 with water for about €17 I could have had a glass of wine for €1.50. Traditional Venetian fare that’s worth seeking out. If like like food you’ll love here.

An excellent choice for cicchetti! I came at lunchtime and had 8 cicchetti (including tuna with cacao, which was delicious) and a glass of wine. There are no seats to sit down, but there is plenty of space to stand and have your cicchetti and wine (or coffee, if you prefer). Very reasonably priced.

Delicious fish sandwiches, I fell in love🤤. There are very big choice of sandwiches - not only with fish. Prices are really good (1.6 eur for sandwich (24.09.25). Staff are pleasant and helpful, they know English. I'm glad that I found this place. Venice is outstanding!
Svitlana P — Google review
The best cicchetti I had in Venice. Came here twice during my stay. Huge selection and well priced at 1.6€ each. Get the tuna and cocoa-an unexpected pairing that ended up being my favorite cicchetto I tried.

For those seeking a genuine experience of Venetian culinary culture, Cantine del Vino già Schiavi offers an outstanding introduction to cicchetti, the region’s traditional small plates. Priced at merely €1.50 each, these meticulously prepared bites are not only economically accessible but also exhibit a high level of creativity and flavour. The selection is extensive, featuring well-considered and inventive combinations that distinguish themselves from more conventional offerings found elsewhere. In addition to its culinary appeal, the establishment functions as a wine shop, providing an excellent selection of regional wines and variations of Aperol Spritz. Whether one prefers a traditional option or a more contemporary interpretation, the beverage menu caters to a wide range of preferences. This venue is particularly well-suited for a light midday meal, a pre-dinner appetiser, or an informal social gathering. Seating is limited, with only a few stools available indoors, and patrons typically stand while enjoying their food, either within the establishment or beside the adjacent canal. Although the venue can become quite busy during peak hours due to its popularity among both locals and visitors, off-peak periods offer a more relaxed and convivial environment. Cantine del Vino già Schiavi combines authenticity, affordability, and culinary ingenuity, making it a noteworthy destination for those wishing to engage with the local gastronomic tradition in an informal yet high-quality setting. It comes highly recommended!

Cicchetti was good but this place gets crazy busy. Honestly crazy trying to order here. If you speak Italian you probably have a significantly easier time but if you are a tourist - this can interesting to navigate.

Great service and a very inviting environment. Drinks were great and the selection of good eats was more than my mind can handle. Loved it so much, we went there 2x a day.

Around S Marcos square you have to pay even €10-€14. Instead walk a little bit and come for a proper Italian pasticceria. Difficult to believe: one caffe and one delicious pasta for £3.4! Absolutely great!

One of the best cappuccinos I’ve ever had. Yummy little cream puff too! I got take away and everything was packaged nicely. Would recommend.

I got a vegan croissant, and the glaze made it flawless, my friend got a tiramisu and rated it highly! You can’t sit in, but can stand up and enjoy your pastry/coffee.

We had the cappuccino, it was pleasant although quite mild. The sweets seem quite normal, if decent

This is a small but busy cake shop filled with beautiful desserts. They also sell whole cream cakes, as well as coffee and other drinks. I chose two of the small desserts and a hot chocolate, and everything was delicious. I will definitely come back next time!

The best Italian hot chocolate I’ve ever had and some amazing pastries. Two drinks and a couple pastries were around 10eu. Great for an on the go breakfast. Staff were very friendly there are benches in the windows to eat indoors but it was quite a busy place on a Sunday morning. Venue was clean. Definitely worth a visit for a quick drink and pastry would go back
