If you're on the hunt for a delightful dining experience in Crete, look no further than Special. This charming eatery stands out with its unique take on traditional Cretan cuisine, emphasizing speedy service and fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Whether you choose to dine in or grab a takeaway, you'll be treated to generous portions that often exceed expectations—some might even say they're double the usual size!
Excellent gyros chicken and pork and I particularly liked the beef patties. Nicely cooked and very tasty. The portions are quite big and filling It's a value for money and the service was good and fast. Recommended when in ierapetra

you can meet a cat named bulbasaur here, oh my lords, yess this cat has moustache it's incredible imo. meeting them goes easily top 2 things happened in my vacation, maybe even top 1.

A really good gyros spot. The service was fast and the prices were really cheap. The food was also pretty good. I think that it's a good way to experience the classic Greek gyro.
Kristijan Ž — Google review
We dined in, though the place clearly focuses on deliveries, which caused some delay. Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to expectations – the fries were soggy, and the meat lacked crispiness and flavor. Maybe just an off day, but overall not quite worthy of a good gyros.
Ahhuhh — Google review
Very nice selection of grilled options and gyro. We had a kebab pita and chicken gyro pita (€3.4 & €3.6) and one pork souvlaki (€2, served with pita). Portions were of decent size and quality although next time I would go with pork gyro over kebab.
Pav — Google review
Very good and pleasant place to eat a tasty Pita Gyros, chicken is tasty and potatoes are perfectly fried, warmly recommended for every kind of food. Only little issue is the location, but a table inside the restaurant is the right solution

A very famous place for a quick but good lunch or dinner next to the beach. Large variety of pitas (also for vegetarians), side dishes, salads and beer (that are cheap, 2,5€ for half liter bottle). The service is fast and the waiters are very kind.

(Translated by Google) Nice clean and equipped beach. Compared to the beaches of northern Crete, the beaches of the south are simply different. The sand, the sea, the wind are different, the sun is shining from the other side, all this together gives a feeling of some kind of alienness, a feeling that you are not in Crete, but somewhere very far away. After the bustle of the north, peace and detachment take over here. If you come here, your nervous system will thank you.

(Translated by Google) Long, nice beach with a gradual entrance to the sea, sometimes large stone blocks, but otherwise ok. Southern Crete is said to have a colder sea than northern Crete, it's true, early July and the water is very cold, about 20°C, a very strong wind blows in gusts of about 35 to 40 km/h, sand is everywhere. I didn't see any public toilets here, only toilets in bars. Changing rooms and showers OK. History Museums
The Archaeological Collection of Ierapetra is housed in a 19th-century Ottoman school and showcases various artifacts from different historical periods. Among the notable exhibits are ritual pots, jars, axes, Roman lamps, Greco-Roman statues from Viglia, and the intact statue of the goddess Persefoni dating back to the 2nd century CE. Visitors praise the museum for its well-displayed and explained items, as well as its free admission.
A smaller museum, yet well curated for its size. Rich with beautiful artifacts from the local area, mostly focusing on Minoan and Roman periods. Housed in a historic building (not as old as its collection though). Good to know that there seemed to be no air-conditioning, nor gift shop.

Small but important collection of antiquities from the region. You will need half an hour to walk through it and read through the informative texts. It is closed on Tuesdays.
Nikos P — Google review
It was interesting but I have to say that I was expecting something a bit bigger. To see the whole collection takes you maybe about....15-20 minutes? There is also no parking lot which is a price for historical building in the downtown but is still something to bear in mind.
Will Z — Google review
It was a little difficult to find it open. It was small but very interesting with lots of fascinating exhibits and friendly staff

the museum is very nice but with little things to see. The building is very nice but too small. Don't compare it with a large museum as you will not spend more than 20-30 minutes reading everything. It's nice to see some history about the Minoan ancient times and some maps of the area. The ticket costs 3€ and come with small money as they don't have enough traffic of tourists to exchange high bills.

Nestled in the heart of Ierapetra, Greece, the Hamidiye Mosque stands as a testament to the region's rich history. Originally constructed in 1891 during the Ottoman era, this former church dedicated to Saint John was transformed into a mosque by Turkish occupiers. While it is no longer open for worship and may not be perfectly preserved inside, its exterior remains well-maintained and charming.

Ierapetra Cruise | EVI 2 - Daily Cruises to Chrissi Island

5.0
(165)
Cruise agency
Embark on the Ierapetra Cruise to Chrissi Island for a perfect day in paradise. The tour includes a visit to the 13th-century church of Agios Nikolaos and a glimpse of the small lighthouse on the island's western side. Guests rave about the caring and professional crew, top-quality yacht, and Caribbean-like south beach with an Aegean Sea charm.
We chose EVI 2 due to their professional answers and details when we were asking the operators in the area about the island trip. Even through the cost was higher, we felt it was a good decision to book the trip with them. We still believe it was the best choice. The crew was great, always smiling, always ready to help - even though it is not so easy to accommodate so many styles, so different people. We were scared at first because there were about 6 kids and we wanted to relax. But it was no problem, no screams, only joy and happiness on their faces :). We were lucky to have very well-educated people as companions in this trip. The yacht easily accommodates 25 people, and you cand find your space on the deck (front, rear, or above) or inside, depending on your tastes. The 30 minutes to the island is a wonderful trip, seeing the blue hues of the sea succeeding, from dark, sepia blue to the most beautiful turquoise. Even if I am not an excellent swimmer, I recommend swimming to the first beach, as it was an amazing feeling. But if you don't feel like doing it, don't worry, as the yacht has an inflatable boat with an engine that can bring you and your bags to the shore. The water is pristine, but at the shore there are rocks. No problem for us since we brought our snorkeling equipment. After the 1st refreshing bath (1 hour), we got back to the ship, exactly when a big boat came and crowds of people invaded the water. It was a blessing to have 1h just for us. A very well arranged big table was expecting us. We were uncertain about the quality of the food, but we had a nice surprise: very tasty, pretty various dishes: Greek salad, traditional sausages, dakos, feta dumplings, tzatziki, chicken kebab. Beverages at your will: raki, wine, beer, coke, water. After the meal, we navigated to the next beach, close to the 1st one. Everybody chose to swim near the boat, as the water invited you to do so. The crew fed the fishes with bread and we had an amazing experience by swimming "with the fishes". We stayed around 2 hours. We now received fresh fruits: watermelon, peaches, raki with watermelon :). And ice cream. The music was a very good companion, it is not something we would listen normally but under those the circumstances it was great! In other words, it was a magic experience, fulfilling, and full of good surprises. We recommend this trip to Chrissi Island and the crew is really great!
Raluca B — Google review
From the moment we stepped onboard, we were welcomed with warmth, genuine smiles, and a level of hospitality that made us feel truly special. I wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone looking to explore Chrissi island in style and tranquility. A heartfelt thank-you to Sophia and her team for making this trip so special.

we had the best time ever!!!! the vibes! the food! the music! 10/10! it was genuinely one of the best days ever. Thank you Sophia and Mohamed! you were absolutely lovely and made sure we all felt comfortable and had fun. The food was delicious and super fresh, and the homemade wine was refreshing and just perfect. This cruise was the perfect way to enjoy the breathtaking view!
Milena H — Google review
An unforgettable boat trip to Chrissi Island – a must-do in Crete! We had the privilege of enjoying an absolutely incredible day aboard a yacht heading to Chrissi Island. We were a group of 8, including my 78-year-old mother, and everything was simply perfect from start to finish. The hospitality of Sophia, Mohamed, and the rest of the crew was outstanding. Warm, friendly, and always attentive, they made sure we were all comfortable and happy, taking special care of my mother with such kindness and patience. The yacht itself was super comfortable and spacious, ideal for relaxing and enjoying the sea. We went snorkeling in crystal-clear waters, swam at paradise-like beaches with white sand and turquoise waters—each stop more stunning than the last. The food on board was another highlight: delicious, fresh, and plentiful, with something for everyone. On top of that, we enjoyed unlimited drinks, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Without a doubt, it was a unique and unforgettable experience—one of those perfect days you never forget. If you’re in Crete, don’t miss this trip. It’s so much more than just a boat tour: it’s a magical moment filled with nature, care, and total joy. Thank you for everything!
Lorena U — Google review
We went on this boat trip four years ago and loved it — and now we’ve done it again! It was just as amazing as we remembered. Sophia and Mohamed are incredibly kind and welcoming. Both stops were beautiful, the food and drinks were absolutely perfect, the dessert and raki was a real treat. We would definitely do it again — highly recommended!

Best day of the holiday!!! Beautiful boat, beautiful day swimming in amazing clear sea great food and service! I come every year and look forward to this day the most!
Sofia K — Google review
Booked in advance and it was definitely worth it. Took a similar cruise in Heraklion to Dia island and this was more impressive. We went in the beginning of September so we had a small discount. Cruise staff is made of courtious people, Sophia is a Creta (or Greek - not sure) woman who speaks English and French fluently . The luch was the best part: freshly made barbecue (sausages and souvlaki), salad, tzatziki, pastries, cretand Dakos. Of course, wine, raki and fruit afterwards. It's nice that they take you to see Chrisi Island and also take you to shore on a small boat, where you can spend some time (not very much, about an hour) Down side: you do not get to spend to much time on the island witch is great for snorkelling (saw lion fish and other species that are not so common on the more crowded beaches) . Even though all beverages are included in the price and are "unlimited" I felt like the water was more unlimited that the other beverages. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but at one point kind of made me feel uncomfortable to ask for another beer or coke (witch did not happen in other cruises).

I recently dined at Levante tavern, a Greek restaurant owned by Nikolaos G. Fragkiadakis, and had an amazing evening. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and the staff were friendly and attentive. The cuisine was exceptional - they served fresh seafood that was cooked to perfection. It was a delightful dining experience that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a enjoyable night out with delicious food and beverages.
The owner is very friendly and can speak multiple languages. German, English, French and of course Greek. The food was very good and offerings also delicious. The menu card is in various like pictures available but it is still to recommend as you have a beautiful few to the sea. It is possible to pay by card.

Nikos was super supportive of my gluten and dairy allergies. He made excellent recommendations, the food was all delicious and classic Greek food. It was relaxed dining alfresco, out of the sun, next to the sea. We loved quite a few things - the mountain greens, the gemista, the lamb chops, the gyro platter (one of my husbands favorites) an omelet... We gladly ate here twice in 4 days in Irapetra. Efcharisto Levante!
Valerie L — Google review
Right on the beach. The food was very tasty and very good. Lots of appetizer options that are naturally vegan. Gemista as a main is naturally vegan. The owner was very knowledgeable about vegan food, however he was very arrogant, always on top of us and when paying the bill, everything was hand written, so we are confident that he overcharged us. He insisted on only cash and even commented that when we booked online he pays a 2 euro booking fee, so as to make us feel bad. Overall, great food, fast service, terrible vibe from the owner.

Odeion, a hidden gem in the heart of the city, offers an incredibly genuine dining experience with a diverse selection of local dishes. The attentive staff goes above and beyond to explain the contents of each dish and even suggests trying different courses to create a mini buffet of flavors on your table. The cozy ambiance adds to the overall charm, while the prices remain affordable. This former music school transformed into a fantastic tavern serves excellent food and provides exceptional service at low prices.
Really authentic experience, good variety in local foods/dishes. Very helpful service taking time to explain contents of dishes, and actually suggested that we tried different courses to split, so we ended up having a minor buffet of different local dishes on the table, but still plenty of food to get full. Cosy atmosphere, and very acceptable prices. A hidden jewel right in the city centre - highly recommendable

I had an unpleasant experience at this restaurant. The staff were very rude — while we noticed them being warm and welcoming to other customers, they treated us with noticeable indifference. We didn’t even get a smile. When we tried to speak with them, they interrupted us and turned their backs before we could finish. It was disappointing and made us feel unwelcome. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

The spouse enjoyed the branzino, which was exceptionally fresh. As for me, I indulged in the lamb chops and found them to be extraordinary. To conclude our meal, we savored a simple margherita pizza that surpassed all expectations. The pizzas are prepared in a wood-fired oven utilizing olive tree wood as fuel—an incredibly delicious choice indeed. Unfortunately, we devoured everything too swiftly to capture a picture and underestimated its exceptional quality.
Great food and really lovely service. Lovely portions and lots of salad options! They even had a banana pizza!!?? I mean if Hawaiian pizzas get stick for adding pineapple to the topping I wonder what the Pizza vs Fruit lynch mob would make of this little concoction! Massive bottles of Mythos too, and excellent fruit juices - something for everyone

45 minutes waiting for 2 pizzas and a portion of chips. "It's because you have ordered the gyros one". At least don't think all the tourists are idiots. Many tables, arrived after us, were served before us. (And they ordered pizza as well). Pizza itself was nice, crispy but with a very poor amount of meat on it. Wine was nice.

Amazing food with an even more amazing view of the ocean! The hospitality was outstanding, the food was prepared super was and was amazing. Double plus - they have vegan options! 🙌🏻 I 100% love that. As a desert we got some free fruits; Thank you for the great time!

My son has a peanut and tree nut allergy. We informed the waitress about the allergies and we were assured there was no nuts or cross contamination for my son’s Margherita Pizza. We come to Greece every year and speak the language so there are no excuses of miscommunication. My son had an allergic reaction to something he ate there 100%. He ended up with hives all over his body. Please be very careful if you have this type of allergy if you decide to try this establishment.

Visited Sunday 30 June 2024 for lunch, there was only a table of two people when we arrived. We sat down, the waitress came over, made sure the table was clean and put a clean table cover on and went away. In the meantime two further tables became occupied. The waitress went and took the orders for both of the tables whilst we were still waiting to have our order taken. We asked the waitress to take our order to which she replied 'in a minute '. Another four people came in and she immediately went over to take their orders. We attempted to get her attention but it was blatantly clear she was choosing to ignore us. At this point we got up and walked out. The moral of this story is, if you are any other nationality than greek, DON'T GO because she clearly had no intention of ever coming and taking our order and was only interested in serving local people. She certainly needs some training on dealing with the public and customer facing skills. Clearly the restaurant can afford to lose custom and money. We went to another restaurant nearby and they clearly could not do enough for you and had superb service and a lovely meal.

The restaurant Massati offers delicious food and excellent service. The mini burgers for children are particularly tasty and quickly devoured. The pasta dishes are also delectable, as are the Pulled Pork Burgers. The salad with grilled cheese is expertly prepared. The cleanliness of the restroom is commendable, although the absence of coffee may be disappointing to some due to its focus on meat-based cuisine.
Honestly one of my favorite spots on my food tour through Greece. This place will not disappoint the meatballs with Chimichurri was my favorites dish, even the Caesar salad was flavorful! Highly recommended to go if you’re in Ierapetra.
Eric S — Google review
Large portions. So what? The Turkish pita was cold and unappetising, the cheese unmelted. Everything was just cold. In addition, the dish contained a lot of onions and this was not indicated on the menu. What if I had allergies? They give you a bottle of water on the table to start and then add this to the bill. With the tzatziki you get a few pieces of pita and then it turns out that they even add that to the bill. Avoid this place.

Tasty food and nice service. The mini burgers for the kids were very good and they were 'finished fast' 😀. The pasta was also yummy, alongside the Pulled Pork Burger. The grilled cheese in the salad was perfectly made! The toilets were clean. The only downside was the fact that they don't have Coffee (but it's a Meat Point 🙂). Edit: we return to this place several times. The lady serving us made everything perfect. She made us feel like home (Efcharistou!!! 😀). Each time, the food was grilled just the way it should be! Highly recommended!

Day 2

South side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the south side side of town. Start the day off with Venetian Fort Kales, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Paralia Ierapetras. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Venetian Fort Kales, located in Ierapetra, is a historical gem dating back to the 14th century. This well-preserved fortress has withstood the test of time and witnessed significant events during the Venetian and Ottoman wars. While currently closed for fortification, it remains a prominent cultural venue hosting events like the Kirvia Cultural Festival. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of the beach and harbor from this vantage point.
A very well-preserved fort of the Venetian era. It can easily be visited and seen within a few minutes. This was obviously a fort providing a base for the local garisson, far smaller than the massive Venetian fortresses of the northern coastline (Spinalonga Heracleon, Rethymno, Chania, Gramvoussa), comprising the main defensive network of the island during Venetian rule.
George S — Google review
The Venetian Fortress of Kales in Ierapetra is a charming historic site by the sea. It sits right at the entrance to the city’s port and is the only remaining fort on the south coast of Crete. Built between the 13th and 15th centuries during the Venetian period, it was later repaired under Turkish rule. The thick stone walls offer great views, making it a peaceful and interesting place to visit.
Monika T — Google review
Not very big, but beautifully restored and an important historical building. Good views from the top, but it won't take you long to explore. Worth a stroll around though and admission is free.
Kevin E — Google review
The Fort is closed for fortification at the moment. The narrow alleyways roads recall the towns' Ottoman past. Patience is required to navigate the one way loop you are required to navigate in reaching the fort. I followed directions to the "Port" to reach the location these photos were taken.

Located in the Kato Mera area, just a short distance from the Kales, is the House of Napoleon, also known as "to spiti tou Napoleonta." While visitors cannot explore the interior of this small building, it's still worth a visit during a stroll around town. It offers an intriguing glimpse into the historical connection with Napoleon and adds an interesting stop to your sightseeing itinerary.
The architectural building does not represent anything special. Only very low doors are impressive. All dictators were or are very low.

Absolutely not worth to travel and visiting this place. As per official opening hours on Google 8:30-15:30, reality on doors 8:30-13:00 but during our visit not opened at all. Very unprofessional not mentioning online they are closed so people don't have to travel. Luckily this town has other interesting places to see including beaches.

Not much to say, good to see a place preserved and renovated and maintained. It was close because it was Sunday.
Elie S — Google review
We saw a little sign poining to “the house of Napoleon”, and decided to take the 50 steps to look at it. The title makes it sound like it is an actual house of Napoleon, so we were suprised that we did not heard of this place before. Upon inspection it was not really noteworthy, as it was only a place that Napoleon may or may not have stayed a night while travelling, also not being a super interesting house (see picture attached). Nothing historically proven, so it should be seen as a local piece of lore. Either way, it’s close to the road where tourists walk past, so can’t hurt to check it out.
Martijn K — Google review
Napoleon’s House in Ierapetra is a charming two-story building with classic Greek architecture, located in the historic Kato Mera district. Tradition says Napoleon Bonaparte stayed here during his brief stop in Crete. The building dates back to the late 18th or early 19th century, making it a fascinating piece of local history.

The menu features locally sourced ingredients that are transformed into exquisite dishes that are simply divine. From the chicken linguine to the tzatziki and cheese balls, every bite is bursting with flavor.
Everyone Google’s where’s the best Taverna in Greece, look no MORE! I’ve been fortunate enough to visit many of the islands and I can honestly say this is my favourite. George is the best host, the food is locally sourced and exquisite…..simply divine. Everything was perfect. Even better, look no more for a beach / sun spot. After having a salut with his own raki, just pitch up on the rocks next door. I’ll be coming back many more times. HEAVEN 🙏 thank you George!

This place has everything you want in a local restaurant: fresh food, good prices and top personalized service. Me and my girlfriend travelled around Crete but visited this restaurant several times and we came to one conclusion: they have the absolute best greek food, specially the greek salad which was made in the moment. Moreover, the fish was perfectly grilled and the potato fries… omg. Another level. Last but not least, the view rounds a magnificent visit. You are almost above the water which means you have the best melody while eating; the sound of the waves hitting the rocks. Must visit!

I strongly believe that Searocco and Astrophengia are the same restaurant, with the kitchen located across the street. Initially, there was confusion as we were searching for Astrophengia, but the waitstaff informed us that it is also known as SeaRocco. The quality of the food is exceptional, including delicious dishes like traditional snail, grilled calamari, grilled sardines, and risotto - some of the best I have ever tasted in Crete.

Amazing food, service and atmosphere. We had fresh fish of the day: grilled tuna and grilled veggies. We had fried cheese with tomato marmalade, side fries and a huge portion of seafood pasta. We also found here non alcoholic wine which was a nice opportunity to have some wine during our early dinner. We got cake on the house at the end. The waiters were reallh friendly. Vira Potzi is a modern Cretan seaside tavern located next to the Kales Fortress in Ierapetra. The restaurant offers a diverse menu featuring culinary innovations such as grilled calamari with zucchini. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of the fortress and the coastal mountains while dining on delicious dishes like fried fish, which comes in generous portions. Additionally, guests are treated to complimentary starters like bread and sauce before their main meals.
I came in for lunch by chance as it has great views of fortress and across the coast of the mountains. I opted for the fried fish and although it was on its own it was very filling as it was a large portion. Before they brought me out a starter of some bread and some sauce which was also excellent

We spent every Friday here during our 4-week stay in Ierapetra I’d say carpaccio from fish is the best we ever tried. Nice pairing with local Malvasia Also service is perfect, we felt as a very welcomed guests every time. And nice view!

We got the shrimp pasta and the tuna fillet. Food was great but the service was INCREDIBLY SLOW. The waiters are so chill it’s very annoying. 15 minutes for someone to attend to us, and then another 15 to take our order. We had a toddler and it was extremely hot so you can imagine how bad that was. We were looking forward to the free desert after but only got fruits, which was still good. The restaurant is by the pierre and I was lucky to see a turtle right next to me!

We stumbled upon Vira Potzi by chance and left extremely satisfied! Vira Potzi is located in a very beautiful spot, next to the fort with stunning views of the port. The food was delicious and fresh and we paired it with their own wine which was refreshing. We also received complimentary desert and fruit (as is customary in Crete) which were just as excellent! Thomas, our waiter, was very friendly and gave us good tips, not only for the food but also for places to explore nearby. I wish I had more photos to share but the dishes were so tempting that we could not resist! P.S. If you try just one thing here, it has to be the day’s fish carpaccio — it is SO worth it.

Short version: overated and overpriced. Nice atmosphere like all other tavernas on the sea side. The taverna tries to offer a „sophisticated“ flavor as opposed to the traditional Greek style that I appreciate and makes Greece special. Some of the dishes were nice I.e. the salad and saganaki, the rest was miserable especially the fried calamari and seabream. The prices are high especially the seam bream is overpriced.

This beach stands out for its serene atmosphere and never feels overcrowded, making it an ideal spot for those seeking tranquility away from the bustling northern beaches of Crete. It is definitely a long beach! Mostly shingle, finer towards the eastern end. Easy access and parking in the middle section, with sunbeds and umbrellas around a beach bar. Water sports are also available. There is also access via a fairly steep track at the western end. Smaller waves than expected for a beach this open, but there are better beaches for swimming and walking. There may be naturists on the western section.

It is truly remarkable to witness the incredible achievements of an ancient civilization that was able to create massive reservoirs by carving solid rock near the sea using only basic bronze tools. Although the location is not well-documented, a slight amount of climbing is necessary to reach it; however, this effort will be rewarded with an extraordinary sight. The use of Google Maps can simplify the process of finding this place. Nearby, there is a hotel where waste disposal facilities are available.
Incredible to see how this ancient culture managed to carve massive water tanks out of solid rock at the edge of the sea with nothing more than basic bronze tools. The site isn't well mapped and will require a little bit of gentle climbing to get to, but well worth seeing.

I just want to thank the person who put 'no water' sign at the beginning of the path. It means a lot to people! :heartemoji: We decided to go up nevertheless. The path is steep for the first 10 -15 min. After you reach the concrete drain line (water supply line) the path is easy (5min more to the waterfall). Up there is beautiful, even with no water. Surrounded by rocks and trees this place gives you peace.
Ruzica J — Google review
The climb is quite challenging but very cute waterfall, loved the walk on the ancient aquaduct !
Karelle B — Google review
We were there in summer. The waterfall was hard to find. When you look it up on Google maps, you have to search for the hiking path, not the waterfall. The hiking path is hard to follow as there are very few signs. Also you have to be very carefull when you use a car. The road is in a bar condition. With lots of rental cars, it is not allowed to drive on such roads. When we arrived at the waterfall, there was no water. It would be better, if there was a sign at the beginning of the path, if the waterfall is active at this time of the year or not.
Manuel K — Google review
Widely advertised but falls short of expectations!Coming from Ierapetra Google maps took me through a HORRIBLE road (much worse than off road) although there was just another (but not equally bad) road. I stopped short of the beginning of the bottom of the hike to the waterfall, afraid that I might not make it up the steep incline. Then looking around and going back and forth finally I found a broken sign and I made an attempt to reach the waterfall but stopped by a wire gate, meaning (?) no pass. I went back, wondered around and eventually talking to a couple of other visitors attempted the same path, reached the wire gate and opened, although there was no sign as such. Very difficult climb (watch people who think it’s ease going) till a second wire gate (I guess to prevent goats going in and decimate the vegetation?) after which the climb and the path improved. The final third of the climb was through a concrete aqueduct not very challenging but in a couple of spots difficult. Eventually made it to a dry waterfall in serene environment and a nice area of relaxation. On the way down it took only 25 min to get to the origin of the climb. I followed the alternate route on the way back to the highway which was MUCH better than going up. Otherwise fantastic area with wild beauty. Make sure you wear good sneakers although I saw few ladies trying to make it on slippers!
Gustav G — Google review
14K short run from Koutsonauri and back between heels in the morning. Unfortunately the waterfall was run of water, but the route is very nice, a few uphills and a few downhills, just to wake up and to start a new day!
MIPAKO — Google review
Easy to miss the trail, but its marked with a red arrow by the information board. Easy hike with a nice narrow walk on a concrete viaduct. Lovely views and the waterfall at the end is cold and refreshing.

Good day everyone! I hope you are enjoying your holiday. I wanted to put up here that this photo area can be a little confusing to find. So the part you might want to find is right off the main road. If you keep driving or hiking up the mountain you are wrong. The first picture is the way the road looks 1kM from the photos spot of the falls. The 2nd is the nasty road you climb to get to this spot. So again there are signs on the main road no where near this, I also ran into a few hikers asking where the falls were in this area so I know I’m not the only one. Good luck and it is beautiful up here, just didn’t find the falls.
Galen A — Google review
It's a really good path for hiking, but once you are there, you'll realize that there is no water in July, August or September, avoid going there if your only goal is to see the waterfall

Historical landmark
The Minoan Village of Vasiliki is a captivating historical site perched atop a small hill, offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. While access to the ruins is restricted due to fencing, visitors can still appreciate the beauty and significance of this ancient location from outside. Despite its closure, the allure of Vasiliki remains undeniable, making it a worthwhile stop for those intrigued by history and breathtaking scenery.
This site is locked and you can only walk up to it and enjoy the ruins from outside the fence. As usual the ancient site is built on the top of a small hill so the views are great.
Nikos P — Google review
There are no facilities. Gates are locked but there is a hole in the fence. It looks like the site hasn't been worked in years, slightly overgrown
Tony C — Google review
Quite hard to find and when you get there not much to see due to the fence. Park at/near the brown sign for the site on the side of the road. We didn't and after following a track, cutting through an olive grove and climbing a small cliff, we found the back gate! It's better the other way.
Philip R — Google review
A beautiful spot, unfortunately the site is fenced off but there is a hole, I resisted lol
Richard W — Google review
It's now closed off to the public but still somewhat visible from outside the fencing. Once upon a time there seemed to be a booth for admission, now completely abandoned.
Etienne C — Google review
It's closed but looks amazing.
Anita S — Google review
Not exactly a destination. Well signed, up the hill off narrow but metalled lane, best try to park on the main road. It's fenced, gated and unattended. The wire fence has been helpfully lifted in one place and fixed back, so you can get under. Essentially it's a typical neglected site, not big, foundations of a few stone buildings obvious, lots of rubble, no information.
Colin A — Google review
Nowhere to park. But it probably would have been interesting had we parked dangerously on the road by the footpath sign.

Koralli Restaurant & Poolbar is a delightful beachside establishment with a charming ambiance and affordable sunbeds. The service, however, lacks attentiveness and can struggle to cope during busy periods. Nonetheless, any issues are promptly addressed in a professional manner upon complaint. The location boasts a stunning shoreline adorned with smooth pebbles, necessitating the use of beach shoes. Additionally, the restaurant's diverse menu offers delicious food options, refreshing drinks, and delectable ice cream selections.
This place is lush ! Me and my partner were exploring the coast and suddenly we found this beautiful restaurant. Quality/price was fair enough and the service friendly ! I enjoyed the food and the view, but the best part are the sun beds that costs just 2€ per person…
Merges R — Google review
I have been visiting for the last 3 years and this place has never proved lass than excellent. The service is on spot and friendly, the menu has a creative touch, the food is amazingly prepared and is always cooked perfectly and the whole scenery is amazing. You get to use the pool, visit the amazing beach and lay at the sun beds all in one place. Last but not least, the place is sparkling clean. I highly recommend the quinoa salad and the chicken schnitzel.
Akis K — Google review
This is a seaside hotel that serves also non residents. Excellent quality. Service very fast and polite. Excellent cappuccino coffee which is hard to find in Crete and generous portion of salads with top taste. Highly recommended since the prices are decent for the quality offered. I will come back to visit.
Nikolas T — Google review
A new place for me and the most visited one during my vacations. Very good service and duality, since you can choose the pool when it is windy. Sunbed in both cases cost 2€ and from my point of view is the best price for the service provided in comparison to other beach/pool bars in the area.
Stavros P — Google review
Really liked this place. The food was very good.
Joanna B — Google review
We ate here few weeks back. Actually it's really really nice place with plenty of space, really good parking, and all the amenities. The gentleman that served us was fluent in English. After our lunch we stayed on the beach that was quite and not overcrowded. Quite enough to take a short nap. The structure has showers and toiles. Also they deliver food and beverages to the beach.
Vartic O — Google review
We just went here again to benefit from the good weather, while Chersonisou has some rain and dark clouds today we knew the south side of the island is mostly sunny. We rented a car all in insurance at POP motors in Chersonisou 30€ a day (i10) price when we rented it for 5 days. Since the weather on the Northern side of the island will be cloudy for a long time we knew the south side would be the only guarantee for some sun. The beach is still nice clean and relaxed , not crowded and most of the time the wind is coming from the island instead of the sea hence the temperature on this side of the island is higher then the Northern side of the island. There is a new sign saying the beach chairs and umbrellas are free of charge for guests of the camping and the Korali restaurant, but when i asked a older gentleman of the Camping he said we are allowed to use them without paying for this time (even i offered to pay he said we could use them) The restaurant is closed today but inside there is some live music going on so when i walked in to the restaurant the management still wanted to make me a delicious frappe (: Big thanks for the owners letting us stay on their beds and making a exception and taking the time to make a frappe (one of the best i had in this holiday)

Restaurant
My boyfriend and I stayed nearby at Votana Apartment and Villa, and decided to walk down to Taverna Psaropoula for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised by this fantastic restaurant on the waterfront. The staff and owner were extremely friendly, the ambiance was beautiful, and there were plenty of vegan options available. At the end of our evening, the owner even helped us find transportation back to our villa when there were no taxis available. We are grateful for their assistance.
A great traditional taverna by the sea. We visited twice- once for lunch and once for dinner. For lunch we had stuffed courgette flowers and giant beans for starters. Both were delicious. I had the stuffed tomato and pepper which was the tastiest I’ve had in Crete. We returned for dinner for sardines and sea bass. Both were cooked very well. The service was very friendly and we felt very welcome. Each time we visited we received a free drink and a dessert. After lunch we spent the afternoon on their sun loungers for free. I would highly recommend

Fantastic dinner and amazing hospitality ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An absolute gem! The food was simply delicious – everything fresh, flavorful, and beautifully served. Our dinner here was truly outstanding. The service was excellent, and the owner himself was very friendly and welcoming, which made the evening even more enjoyable. A big plus is also the option to reserve a table, which is very convenient given how popular this place is. Warm atmosphere, great people, and authentic Cretan taste – we couldn’t ask for more. Highly recommended – a place that makes you want to come back again and again!

We were in Crete for one week and we decided to go back a 2nd time to this LOVELY Greek taverna, partially open air and half covered, fantastic view of the ocean, home grown herbs, warm and inviting, great variety of dishes. Been treated like family to little extras, dessert and liqueur. Highly recommend it.
Mireille C — Google review
This place is like a scene out of a Greek romantic movie and the food tastes the same. Unforgettable place and the true warmth and hospitality of Cretan culture. The sea view and sunset makes you fall in love and the kindness of the staff just feels like human sunshine. This place is like poetry
Stephanie S — Google review
Very expensive with small portions…Definite t not what it used to be… Charging your taverna customers for chairs is also pretty greedy
Matt B — Google review
The restaurant is excellent and Dimitris will make you feel like at home. The food is really good, but don't give to Ouzo (the family cat) shrimps, those will make him sick. On spot you can also rent umbrellas and sunbeds for 5 euros. We went there for 2 days and we were really sad to not have the possibility to go there more...
Mattia M — Google review
A truly lovely place to dine, offering breathtaking views — especially at sunset. The food is full of flavor, the atmosphere warm and inviting, and the staff bring it all together with their genuine kindness and impeccable service. A memorable experience from start to finish!

We visited Taverna Psaropoula at the beginning of August and absolutely loved it. The place gives you a 100% authentic Greek vibe – from the atmosphere to the amazing food and warm hospitality. The staff were wonderful, and the owner himself was present, walking around, chatting with guests and making sure everyone was enjoying their meal, which made the experience even more special. The olive oil was simply outstanding – they even recommended the place where they source it from, so I could take some back home to Poland. If you’re looking for real Cretan flavors and genuine Greek hospitality, this is the place to go!

Steki Taverna - Pizzeria is a delightful gem in Ferma that has captured the hearts of many visitors. With its warm and inviting atmosphere, this charming eatery has been serving up delicious local dishes since 1991. The menu boasts some of the best pizza you'll ever taste, featuring a fantastic crust that pairs perfectly with mouthwatering meatballs and spaghetti infused with delightful Greek spices.
This is the 2nd year our family has been back to eat at this restaurant and every dish has impressed us with its delicious flavors and excellent service.

An absolutely wonderful local taverna. This little restaurant has been in business since 1991 and is very popular, specialising in local dishes. The owner was saying that they're kept busy all year round with local residents, which is always a big plus when looking for a place to eat on holiday... If the locals like it, you know the food is good. We had the stuffed vine leaves for starters, and gyros for our main dish, both of which were superb. The restaurant is clean, beautifully decorated, and feels very authentic. The owners were warm and welcoming, happy to stand and chat and make you feel like you've been coming there for years. A definite 10/10

Amazing atmosphere, we ate here many times during our ten day stay and we enjoyed it so much every time. The service is friendly and the food is quick, they chat with us like friends. They gave us many delicious free desserts and the hospitality was out of this world. Super comfortable, delicious food and friendly staff! 10/10, our go-to from now on whenever we are in Crete. It is clear everyone who works here puts their heart and soul into their food and service.

We had the chicken pitta and calamari – both were excellent, especially for the price. After our meal, we were offered raki and dessert for free, which has happened every time we’ve visited. Great food, warm hospitality, and amazing value. Highly recommend this place!

This family-run establishment exudes warmth, making you feel right at home among friends. As you step inside, be sure to venture to the enchanting garden at the back, where tables are nestled under fig and olive trees—perfect for enjoying your meal in a serene setting.

Wow increíble food and beautiful setting. The staff who works there is super nice. Lamb is spectacular and the garlic bread is a must. Everything we had was delicious. Highly recommend if you’re near the area. Sitting under the olive trees and having amazing food with incredible staff

What a lovely garden restaurant serving the best quality local food! We had the most delicious Shrimp to start, I had Octopus and my partner had lamb chops all cooked to perfection. The menu is simple & traditional. I am gluten and cow dairy intolerant and that wasn’t a problem after a quick conversation with the help of Google translate! Thank you!
Norah B — Google review
A great place where you can eat local dishes well and tasty for a decent price. Everything is freshly prepared. Taverna is a family business and this is also why you can feel like you are staying with good old friends. When you arrive, go to the back of the restaurant to the garden where you will find a table for yourself under a fig or olive tree :-)
