Rethymnon in 3 days

If you only have 3 days to spend in Rethymnon, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Rethymno is a historical jewel on the Crete island, packed with treasures of the past. It contains the Venetian Fortezza Castle, which is located at the top of the town. The old town of Rethymno lies beneath the castle and has a maze of narrow streets, squares, and small churches. It is a good place to buy local goods such as hand-woven baskets, leather bags and silver jewellery. The main square of the town is Mikrasiaton Square, which is lined with restaurants, bars, and cafes to discover.
With favorites like Castelvecchio Restaurant, Lemonokipos Restaurant, and Municipal park of Rethymnon, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Castelo Restaurant and Castelvecchio Restaurant so you can get the best taste of Rethymnon while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Historic Sites
The Fortezza of Rethymnon is an impressive 16th-century Venetian citadel that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the town and port. It is a significant monument in the Old Town, alongside other notable landmarks such as the Loggia, Rimondi fountain, central gate, church of Agios Fragkiskos, and the picturesque Venetian port. The fortress also bears witness to the Turkish occupation with surviving mosques in the vicinity.
It's big area with ancient buildings, a ticket is around 5 €. But it's one of the highest points of Rethymno, you can see wonderful views of the sea from there. You can visit it anytime you want, but the better is to choose not so hot days) There is little cafe inside of area so you can buy a water or Ice cream) If you are in the north side of Crete, you must visit Fortezza)))

Nice and historical place, with a great view of the sea and town. You can spend around one hour there walking along the old walls and admiring picturesque views. The cost of the entrance is 5 euros per person. Unfortunately, ruins seem to be not well maintained and preserved, so you have to be careful during the sightseeing.
Paweł P — Google review
Fortezza – A Worthwhile Visit with Room for Improvement. Historically, Fortezza is a fascinating site and absolutely worth a visit while in Rethymno. The entrance fee is €5 for a single adult, and you can explore the grounds in about 40 minutes to an hour—assuming you can handle the intense July heat and direct sun. The panoramic views of the sea and the city are stunning, offering plenty of breathtaking photo opportunities for those into photography or scenic walks. However, there are a few things to keep in mind. There is no guided tour or detailed signage throughout the site, so those interested in learning the historical context may want to research in advance. Some areas appear to be accessible for children, but I would strongly caution parents—there are several open drops with only a small chain as a barrier and no warning signs. Supervision is absolutely necessary. Maintenance could be improved. We noticed visible garbage in a few of the indoor areas that were otherwise open to visitors. There is a stand-style café inside selling coffee and cold drinks, which seemed popular, though I did not purchase anything myself. Washrooms are available near the entrance, along with a small gift shop offering some interesting items. Overall, the Fortezza is a memorable and culturally rich stop, but it would benefit from better upkeep, clearer safety measures, and more historical information for visitors.
Reza S — Google review
€5 per person. No wait time. It's a nice city view point and you need around 30minutes to stroll around the Fortezza. Not much to see within the area though. Visited in early September at around 12:00 and it was warm and a bit windy, still manageable to walk around for 30minutes.
Gianna O — Google review
Nice place to visit. We payed 12 euros for one kid and 2 adults. The view is amazing, but there is no guide and nothing written about the history of this place. Feels like they don’t invest much of taking care of it. Worth visiting bit could definitely be improved.
Loredana E — Google review
€5 per person. Nice to walk around on a sunny day. Wish there was more information around to explain more about the forts history. I assume this would be available in the museum but the entry wasn’t included in the price of the ticket.
Tom A — Google review
Fortezza is certainly worth a look. The streets up to the Fort when on foot are stunning and then the views from the Fort of the old town are fantastic. I would avoid the midday as there is very little cover or shelter form the sun and it was very hot. The entrance fee was not bad and i would say does reflect the lack of places to see inside.
Stephen B — Google review
We visited this after walking past it numerous times and I think it would've been best to keep how it looks inside in our imagination. The ticket is €5 per adult and even that felt a bit much. The only thing worth seeing here is the view of the city from the fortress. Other than that, the place is just dirt, rocks and some rundown buildings. There is no tour guide or even plaques explaining what you're looking at. This place has so much potential, but it's so badly maintained... Too bad it's being managed by incompetent / uninterested people.

Avli rustic fine dining restaurant is a renowned establishment that has been serving modern Cretan cuisine for over 30 years. Housed in a beautiful 16th-century Cretan-Venetian mansion, the restaurant offers an elegant interior and a charming courtyard. It also boasts a famous Winery with an impressive selection of Greek wines. The restaurant's breakfast menu features traditional Cretan dishes made with fresh local produce, catering to various palates and ages.
My husband and I came here for lunch and were truly impressed. Tucked in a peaceful courtyard in Rethymno’s Old Town, this gem serves creative dishes with a local twist. Fresh ingredients, unique flavors, and a relaxed, intimate vibe, a perfect spot for a memorable meal. Thank you!
Maya N — Google review
Came here for dinner and the restaurant is beautiful, the service was great and the cocktails were ok, although the old fashioned was extremely sweet. Sadly the food was a bit disappointing. The prices here are quite a bit higher than at other restaurants in the area and it's trying very hard to be fancy fine dining with very small portions using things like foams etc., which is fine, and I don't mind paying for fine dining if the food is good, but for us the food here just wasn't very good. The shrimp entree was pretty good and was the best dish we had. The ravioli was quite bland with a foamy sauce that didn't have much flavor. The mussels and octopus dish was served completely cold and the combination of flavors and the green sauce just didn't work together and it wasn't enjoyable. Overall the ambience here is great and it's a really nice little courtyard to have a meal, but sadly the quality of the food just doesn't match the high prices at all.

My second best restaurant in Rethymno is Avli, more Cretan cuisine with zest of contemporary methods. Very fresh and will not disappoint savvy foodies and those who are looking for a super dinner in the centre of Rethymno town. Very romantic, sat in a traditional courtyard with trees and flowers surrounding ancient authentic walls. Wine list is great and also the sommelier knows how to help you decide with goes best with your order. Not very economical but portions are quite generous. The staff is lovely and here too we came twice! Many restaurants in Rethymno looks like a tourist trap, this one definitely not and yet you have a romantic instgrammable backdrop to please everyone.
Ahmad A — Google review
Quite high standard of the dishes, both in creativity and plating for a resort town like Rethymno. It actually measures up to fine dining, including service and staff being knowledgeable of vines and oils. Good flavours and balanced wine pairings. Very nice to find a tasting menu with smaller portions so that we can experience more flavours at dinner. I am giving 4 stars for food because some of the dishes could really use some salt to take the dish to an even higher level. Otherwise very nice, probably the nicest place to eat in Rethymno.
Alexandra B — Google review
Wandering through the streets of Old Town we were in search of a place to have some unique cocktails and maybe something to eat. We ordered the Mastic Mist and another cocktail I can't remember the name of (starts with an E). They were by far the BEST drinks we have ever had. Well balanced, unique in taste and surprising, not what you would expect from a traditional blend of extracts, spices and spirits. Hope to be back to Rethymnon and experience Avli like it deserves.
Stefana C — Google review
We had a wonderful tasting-menu dinner at Avli in Rethymno. The six-course menu was creative and consistently refined — every dish felt thoughtful and beautifully executed. A particularly memorable feature was the olive-oil pairing served with each course: it was a clever, distinctive idea and truly shone at dessert, where the olive oil was an unexpected highlight. The wine pairing was exceptional and matched the food beautifully; the sommelier clearly knows his craft. We sat in the courtyard, which provided a lovely, relaxed setting for the meal. Service was professional overall — very friendly and knowledgeable — though the staff member who cleared the plates was a bit less attentive than the rest, but it did not detract from the evening. Pricing felt fair for the quality: the six-course menu came in at around €80–90 (fish course extra) and the wine pairing was about €34, which we thought was very reasonable given the selection and pairing quality. All in all, Avli delivered an elegant, memorable dining experience — highly recommended for anyone looking for creative, well-paired tasting menus in Rethymno.

A Hidden Culinary Gem in the Heart of Rethymno 🌿🍷 Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Dining at Avli is like stepping into a romantic Cretan courtyard from another time. Nestled in the old town of Rethymno, the rustic charm of the space, surrounded by flowers, vines, and historic stone walls, creates an atmosphere that is both intimate and enchanting. The menu stands out from the typical tourist spots – it’s Greek cuisine with a creative twist. Every dish surprises you with unique combinations, beautiful presentation, and bold flavors. It’s a place for those who enjoy exploring new tastes and high-quality local ingredients. Whether it’s a refreshing cocktail under the bougainvillaea or a perfectly grilled octopus with sweet potato purée, Avli delights all senses. The staff is knowledgeable and welcoming, which adds even more to the experience. 💡 If you love food and aesthetics, this is a must-visit. It’s perfect for a romantic lunch, a peaceful escape from the busy streets, or a memorable dinner. Pro tip: Be open to flavor – this is not your average taverna. Come ready to explore.

Restaurant
Raki Ba Raki is a popular spirit in Crete, similar to Italian Grappa, often offered at the end of meals in local restaurants. While it can be purchased, it may not taste as good back home. Vegetarian options are abundant on the island, with many restaurants offering meat-free dishes during Greek Orthodox feast or fasting days. Raki Ba Raki on Arabatzoglou 17 offers traditional favorites with a contemporary twist using fresh local produce for a laid-back dining experience.
Great central location. A lovely lunch sat on tables on the pavement. Nice atmosphere amongst the bustling streets. English spoken. Good selection of food including vegetarian options. Nice local wine too. Pleasant courtyard in the back. Toilets available.

We heard really good things about the restaurant and we were excited to try, but ended up pretty disappointed. We ordered « a puff pastry » with feta cheese, lemon, rose, and fig. However, it was three different pastries with fig, rose jam, and lemon jam. It wasn’t quite our taste. For main dishes, we ordered the lamb/pork burger and rigatoni with pesto and pork tenderloin. The burger was delicious, but the accompanied fries were a bit hard to eat. The pesto dish was quite oily and not as flavorful. We didn’t finish the dish. We were given complementary cake and raki which was nice and tasted great though. The servers were friendly and everything was given within a good time. Unfortunately, we didn’t enjoy the rest of the food much.

Another good restaurant in Rethymno Old Town. Food, atmosphere and service were top notch. Especially starter (greek meze platter) and deserts were delicious. Location is perfect and you definitely can feel the authentic greek taverna. Yes, they don't have usual greek food, but is more like fusion between greek and modern cuisines. Definitely worth a visit when you're in Rethymno.

This restaurant is truly excellent — everything from the food to the service to the atmosphere is top-notch. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, and the setting is beautiful both inside and out. The interior, built within an old stone structure, gives it a charming, authentic feel, while the outdoor seating area is cozy and full of character. The menu is rich and varied, with many well-crafted Cretan dishes. We ordered several plates, all delicious and nicely presented. The traditional Cretan salad was great, the cheese bites with different toppings were amazing (especially the fig one), and the stuffed vine leaves were excellent — and I say that as someone who grew up eating them at home. We also tried the sea bream carpaccio, which was fresh and interesting, though the fruits on top slightly overpowered the fish. Still tasty, but the balance could be improved. The only drawback is the price — it’s quite expensive. It doesn’t ruin the experience, but it’s worth mentioning. Everything else, from the food to the service, was truly outstanding. After dinner, the staff even helped us find a table at the bar just behind the restaurant, which added to the overall experience. A beautiful place tucked between the alleys — definitely worth a visit if you don’t mind the higher prices.

Enjoyed my dining experience at Raki Ba Raki. Beautiful restaurant setting with seating out on the street. Nicely decorated restaurant. Service was good ,our waiter was really lovely ! Quite a big menu with vegetarian options at meat. Our food was really good and I enjoyed it but wasn’t outstanding. Highlight was the fried potatos (amazing). Complimentary orange cake and traditional liquor at the end. Good drink selection and wine list. Nice play to go out for dinner.
Ruby P — Google review
We came at around 8pm on a saturday night without reservation and were able to get a table directly inside. Food was served quickly but we felt a bit rushed (Waiter came for our order while we were still looking at the menu, the starter and main dish arrived before we could even finish our first drink and we noticed lots of looks from the waiters to see if the table needed to be cleared, although we weren’t even 15 minutes into the main dish). Food-wise, very good dolmas, and the octopus with fava bean puree was perfectly cooked. The homemade pasta was disappointing though. Pretty overcooked and overall felt heavy. The chocolate baklava had a good taste and texture.

This restaurant is a must visit place if you are in Crete. The food is very delicious, the portions are large and well prepared. The staff are very polite and welcoming and the restaurant is so well decorated. I suggest the lamb and the oxtail. Overall I strongly recommend it!

Nestled in the charming old town of Rethymno, Castelo Restaurant offers a delightful dining experience with its modern twist on traditional Cretan cuisine. The restaurant's beautifully decorated space exudes a timeless charm, surrounded by historic buildings and adorned with greenery and stone. The attentive and professional staff ensure a pleasant dining experience, accommodating special dietary needs with customized dishes.
Very nice restaurant! We felt welcomed, and the staff was really nice / talkative. Everyone made sure we had the best experience. Even though it was crowded, not once did we feel rushed to finish our meal & go - this is something we’ve experienced in some other restaurants in Rethymno. Overall 5 star rating, don’t miss out on Castelo when in Crete!
Knjigatron — Google review
We went to Castello and had the oxtail with gnocchi and a fillet steak. The steak was pretty average (though beautifully presented), while the oxtail was really tasty. The location and ambiance were great, right in the heart of the old town with all the those old-town vibes. Service was as you’d expect. It’s definitely not a tourist trap, but I’d say they focus more on presentation and atmosphere than on standout food, especially given the price point. Still, we had a lovely evening and don’t regret it!

A good place to experience high end dining with reasonable prices. Recommend the veal chop and pork tenderloin for main course. Also a good list of high quality wines yo choose from. Owner is very friendly and hostipable. Despite going in rush hour, service was very fast

Castelo Restaurant offers a wonderful mix of traditional Greek cuisine with a modern twist. We tried several starters and main courses — all were absolutely delicious. The local white wine paired perfectly with every dish, and the dessert, an apple crumble, was outstanding. Be prepared — the portions are generous!

Went a couple of times, the second I reserved a seat inside of the Saturday night for a special night out. It was well worth it. The food, service and atmosphere was amazing. I was incredibly well looked after. A great place for a meal or something special.

This restaurant is located in the heart of old town,so if you are planning to pay them a visit just bare in mind that u need to park ur car in one of the old towns' parkings and walk to the restaurant (closest parking 5-7 minutes away) Make a reservation prior to ur arrival especially if u are visiting them on a weekend! Food is decent and representation is fancy, nice place for a special night perhaps! Inside is very pretty, I recommend you to sit inside! After we finished our dinner, we were given dessert and liquire on the house!

I recommend this restaurant to anyone in Rethymno. The food is delicious and extremely varied. A highlight are the various terraces, or rather floors, where you can eat. We were lucky and were able to eat right at the top, on the rooftop. The service was excellent, and the staff are all extremely friendly. We'll definitely go again.

Thank you for a wonderful dinner! We did not have a reservation, but they tried to find us a table and we had a delicious dinner, with a starter of falafel and octopus, followed by a main of fish and seafood saganaki. The service was 5 stars, with everyone very attentive and helpful. And the food was not only beautifully presented, but very delicious.

Castelvecchio Restaurant is a charming and comfortable dining spot with a quiet terrace offering a wonderful view over Rethymnon. The menu features authentic Greek cuisine, including specialties like grilled shrimps and lamb in parcel foil. The owner is passionate about the restaurant and enjoys sharing stories with guests. Visitors appreciate the accommodating service, especially for families with children, as well as the delicious homemade cake served by the owner's mother.
We have eaten here this evening. It is a comfortable and quiet terrace where you can eat really great food. The food is mostly authentic Greek. You also have a wonderful view over Rethymnon. Besides, the owner is a fantastic guy. He likes to tell you a few stories about the restaurant and he is passionate. This was by far the nicest restaurant we ate at during our week in Crete.

We eat for the second time here this year, and both was very good. Very good services and food: the first time I took the grilled shrimps that were just amazing; the second time I took the lamb in parcel foil (a greec's specialities) that was so good (actually everything in the menu that are part of the "greec's specialities, is amazing). I really recommend this place also for it location and nice terrace.

Although this restaurant looked empty at around 8pm, lots of the tables were reserved, so I'd recommend booking in advance. The restaurant itself is family-run, and is situated at the hilltop at the foot of the Fortezza. There are pretty good views! The staff here are all very friendly and professional, serving us quickly and with a personalised service. We ordered a Greek salad which was very nice, although I'd rather to be able to season it myself rather than them already put olive oil and vinegar in it. Nonetheless, it was nice! We also ordered bread, which had oil on it and was plentiful. I ordered the rabbit for the main, which was well-cooked, very flavoursome and presented very well. The meat itself was admittedly a bit tough, which was the only downside. It was lovely to received a free dessert made by the waiter's mother, which was very nice. Would definitely consider visiting again.

We absolutely loved this restaurant! I had the special lamb, which was so amazingly tender and flavorful. The owner also served a delicious homemade cake his mother made. The service and food was out of this world! We had our 2 little kids with us, and as much as we would have enjoyed our dinner more just the two of us the staff was very accommodating with a baby chair and the overall Greek way of doting over children. Splendid night!!

Spent my last evening of our holiday with my SO here, best choice we made during our entire trip! The food was just incredibly tasty. If you want a great meditteranean dining experience to top of your trip to Rethymno you're at the right place. The lamb was succulent and thr dessert was great as well. You won't regret the climb up to the fortress if you dine here!

Seafood restaurant
The seafood restaurant 7 Thalasses is located on the seafront, and offers a great view of the ocean. The staff is friendly and attentive, and their seafood dishes are full of Mediterranean flair. They serve meals within a reasonable amount of time, and it's definitely worth checking out!
This was one of the most memorable dinners we had in Crete. The restaurant has a stunning oceanside setting our table looked right out over the water, and in the evening the sea is softly lit, which makes the whole atmosphere feel magical. There was a light breeze, beautiful views, and an upscale but still relaxed vibe that made it perfect for a special night out. The service was excellent from start to finish, and the menu had plenty of great options. I went with the tuna steak, which was cooked perfectly and full of flavor, honestly one of the best I’ve ever had. Everyone else at the table was just as happy with their dishes, and we all agreed it was a standout meal. The food, the setting, and the service all came together for an unforgettable experience. I’d highly recommend this place if you’re visiting Crete and want an amazing dinner by the sea.

We came here for the stunning view, which really is beautiful. The starter was served quickly and was very tasty. Unfortunately, the main dish – lobster pasta for two €60 – didn’t live up to expectations. The pasta was quite bland, and the lobster had a slightly bitter taste. What you see on top of the pasta was all the meat we got — the shell was empty. Overall, not really worth the price. The service also felt a bit distant, and we got the impression we were being judged for not ordering cocktails and taking photos while waiting.

Very nice location, right at the ocean front, the waves hit at the glasswall next to the tables. You feel like you are inside the ocean. We had to wait 30min until we were seated to a table which was already ready all the time.. Food and drinks are tasty but not extraordinary. I was expecting a better quality. Service was nice but sometimes a bit inattentive. We were not disappointed but expected a little bit more extravagance regarding the taste of the food. However the steamed mussels were very very tasty, that one was outstanding.

We enjoyed a beautiful dinner at 7 Thalasses. The food was delicious, staff very polite and very attentive. The only problem, was quite windy and waves were very agitated and they closed the place and we were unable to enjoy the view and sea sound (not restaurant fault). Overall we highly recommend this place

Had an early dinner. Arrived alone and was offered the best table (I didn't have reservation). All the waiters were attentive, quick and smiley. Had the Cretan salad- in which the anthogalo was heavenly-, grilled calamari, grilled octopus and the bread selection. Frankly, the calamari wasn't my favourite, because of the sauce's flavour and because I couldn't taste the smokey flavour of the grill. But that's just personal preference. The grilled octopus was really nice, and I loved the brown breads. I couldn't finish the plates since they were big. At the end I received a small portion of vanilla ice cream which was the perfect way to end my dinner. It's a pricey restaurant, but overall the price- value ratio is excellent.

I was expecting a better combination of flavors and it seemed to me that there was some "inconsistency" on the dishes. We got the guacamole with crispy shrimps but the panko on the shrimps didn't add anything on it. Though the shrimps without the panco were tasty guacamole wasn't quite matching the shrimps. The Cretan salad was nothing special. Gor some reason, at this restaurant I was expecting something different. Still talking about personal preference. The cheese rolls were too oily. Also the lobster pasta was good but again too much oil. Pasta perfectly cooked al dente, lobster was ok! Greek spritz was really good if you like mastic and the ice cream that was on the house was very good as well! The service, the staff was amazing!

This quickly became our favourite restaurant in Rethymnon. We ended up coming back for round two because the food is absolutely divine. The team working there are lovely, too. Highly recommend.

This incredible restaurant isn’t on Michelin guide yet due to some bureaucratic issues but I would definitely give it at least 2 Michelin Stars. It might not have 200 labels on the wine list but their wine list is very smart and perfect for the food paring. The food is great ( the “great” word isn’t really enough) The service is the best you can get with a very friendly touch. The place itself plus the decor is absolutely fantastic feels like you are dining on board of a super yacht. The prices are surprisingly low for the level of experience. It’s not just a restaurant- it’s a destination on its own!

Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Rimondi Fountain, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Alana Restaurant. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Rimondi Fountain, constructed in 1626 by the Venetian governor Rimondi, is a prominent public fountain in Rethymno. It features Corinthian columns and lion-head spouts that supplied the town with water from Mt Vrysinas. Situated in the Old Town, it stands alongside other notable landmarks such as the Fortezza, Loggia, and Porta Guora.
Lovely little old town with a good mix of new and old shops/restaurants. The people are lovely and cafés so welcoming. Prices are pretty much ok and there is always a good varied menu. Enjoy driving, it is one hell of an experience, if you live in Paris or Rome, you'll have no problem 🤣
Stephen B — Google review
We had coffee & a great late breakfast in the cafe just next to it. Lovely.
Maria B — Google review
The attraction is free to visit. Keep in mind that the fountain is located in a passageway surrounded by many restaurants and shops. Consequently, it gets quite crowded, and you might have to wait a while to take a photo without people in it. I recommend stopping by if you're already in the city or if you're an architecture enthusiast, but I wouldn't make a special trip just for this from the other side of the island.

A nice venecian fountain still egzisting. There are some nice caffee beside. Still working
JOvi E — Google review
It a nice fountain to visit but it’s not easy to find, it felt like it was hidden a bit. Cafes and taverns are all around it so if you expect a big fountain in the middle of the square then you’ll be disappointed. It’s worth to visit though just a quick selfie and then head to the next stop
Ferenc H — Google review
A beautiful mix of old and new in Rethymno. The fountain blends perfectly with the modern restaurants, and the small square is a lovely stop with plenty of shops and tavernas. Highly recommended!

Really nice and pretty, you don't need tickets to go there, you just see it, take pictures if you want and then go on with your trip.

Very pretty village, chilled atmosphere, nice shops, drink and freshen up at the fountain and people watch. Do visit the folk museum to the left of the fountain. It's free, tiny but packed with lovely antiquities, and hosted by a genuinely enthusiastic and welcoming host.

History Museums
Nestled in the heart of Rethymnon, the Archaeological Museum of Rethymnon is a treasure trove for history enthusiasts. Established in 1887 and housed within a former soap factory, this museum showcases an impressive array of artifacts that span from the Late Neolithic to the late Roman period. Visitors can marvel at pottery, tools, jewelry, and marble statues that reflect life in ancient Crete.
Beautiful antiquities well arranged for viewing. Most items are from Crete. Beautiful displays of marble statues, jewelry, tools, ceramics, frescos, and ancient bath tubs to name just some of the pieces on display. It’s well worth the visit. It only takes about 30-60 minutes to walk through depending on how much you want to read.
Anne R — Google review
A small, one room museum with many interesting artifacts nicely on display. The entrance fee is very cheap (5€) and it has a little bit of everything. Takes roughly 30-45mins max to get through. I recommend checking it out if you’re in the area :)
Themis T — Google review
A small but powerful look into the large collection of the Rethymno museum. The museum is temporarily housed in this impressive and well preserved building waiting for the new larger museum to be built in the near future. Until then you can browse through the collection’s highlights and get a concise reminder on the historical timeline of Crete’s culture.

Nice small local museum. Great to learn about the history of the area. Staff was kind and cashier informed us that under 25 get in free, which we were not aware of before coming. We also got free cards.

This compact and well-kept museum is situated in the heart of Rethymno, and constitutes an oasis of calm among the throngs of tourists. The exhibits are fascinating and complemented by informative descriptions. Even representatives of the local feline community appeared interested! Staff members were impeccably polite and helpful. Dedicate an hour or two to visiting.

Very good albeit small museum with a lot of history inside. It highlights the story of the region from the early ages and most recent findings. There is literally a single room but one that takes easily 30min to enjoy. Nice staff welcome you and can provide you useful guidance. There is an entry fee but seems reasonable...

Small but beautiful collection with nice explanations. Definitely worth the visit if you are interested in history and/or mythology! I took the time to read everything and look at each case for a bit and it took me about an hour to walk through the exhibition. Time and money well spent!

Restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Rethymno's Old Town, Alana Restaurant is a delightful culinary gem that beautifully marries traditional Cretan flavors with contemporary twists. Known for its exquisite pasta and fresh seafood options, this charming eatery offers an inviting atmosphere perfect for an elegant dinner experience. The menu showcases a variety of Mediterranean dishes alongside local Greek cuisine, with about ten percent of the vegetables sourced organically and all wines proudly hailing from Crete or Greece.
If you want a special evening then this is the place, very traditional and modern restaurant. The staff were all very friendly and attentive, topping up our wine as required. The menu is not large but the food was exquisite and cooked to perfection, I had beef and honey with potato puree, very yummy and the lamb klefitco looked the best portion I have seen, served on a plate and not as a stew. Complimentary drinks and dessert were a lovely finish to a great food experience

This is a fancy restaurant with fancy food and fancy decoration. The staff is polite but colder and more formal than what you expect from Crete. The food here is delicious and well prepared. The portions are medium size. Large people might have to order multiple plates especially after spending a lot of energy walking and swimming. I tried a delicious chicken with orange sauce. Fantastic. The burger here is also something else. The place itself is awesome. One of the most beautiful decorations I've seem. It is a mix of ruins, nature, and modern. The trees leaves work as roof.

After 9 years we finally came back—just because we couldn’t forget that starter we loved so much. To our surprise, not only was the taste exactly as we remembered, but we were even served by the same waiter as back then. Talk about time travel on a plate! The flavors brought back all the good memories, only now with an extra smile (and a laugh or two). Some restaurants serve food, this one serves nostalgia with a side of joy.

We visited Rethymno for the day, and for dinner we ended up at Alana Restaurant. What a great choice that was! Even though we didn’t have a reservation, the staff welcomed us with a big smile and made us feel right at home. Everyone was so kind and friendly. The outdoor area is absolutely charming, full of flowers and trees, with a calm and peaceful atmosphere, it felt like dining in a lovely garden. Since we were in Crete, we went for seafood, calamari and fish, and both were just incredible! So fresh, perfectly cooked, soft and full of flavour. We also tried the chicken, which was great too, but the seafood really stole the show. Service was fast and attentive, and everything we ordered, from the starters to the simple bread and olives, was simply delicious. It goes without saying, next time we’re in Rethymno, Alana will be the first place we visit again!
Marinos T — Google review
What a great place, highly recommend it. Been here in 2005 and now again in 2025. Food and service were incredible. Waiter recommended wine and dishes and was spot on. We had a great evening, finished of with a thunderstorm! 🤣⛈️ The desserts were a great take on classic desserts. We had the beef fillet ‘honey’, melt in mouth meat, lamb shank, Greek ribeye steak and pasta. Dessert were chocolate soufflé (absolutely gorgeous), panacotta, lemon tart and cheesecake. The pina colade mocktail was divine.

Amazing dinner in a cozy setting outside under the big trees 👏🇬🇷 food and service was family friendly and at the same time cool. Fast serving us and good wine recommendations to the food 👏 Thank you 🙏

Traditional Mediterranean cousine presented with a refined and modern elegance. The appetizer tempura shrimp was exceptionally tasty, pretty neat with the ink of the cuttlefish and the saffron aioli was the cherry on the top. The slow cooked Lamb Shank was succulent and delightful. The shrimp orzo pasta was bursting with fresh flavours. The staff was very friendly. Do not miss this lovely restaurant located in the old town in Rethymno.

"To Parastratima" is a hidden gem in a quiet alley, offering an authentic and peaceful dining experience away from the bustling streets. The restaurant serves local dishes made with fresh ingredients from nearby suppliers. Visitors praise the friendly service and delicious food, particularly recommending the lamb kebab, fries, salad, and tzatziki. The owner's hospitality and knowledge add to the overall enjoyable dining experience.
We went to the best rated restaurants in Rethymno and this one beats all of the them. The food is perfect. Period. The ingredients are fresh and the cooking is precisely on point. My daughter said her carbonara was the best. My wife lived her pork. And I never ate a chicken so well prepared. And the best, it costs the same as other restaurants. It is cheap. Now, because nothing is perfect, the service takes very long time. The staff is polite and friendly but expect to wait long time to be served. Overall, our lunch took 2 hours.
Guilherme F — Google review
We absolutely loved Parastratima. It’s a tiny, family-run spot just off a little historic square, with only about eight tables set along a narrow street. That alone makes it feel special, but the food really blew us away. Every dish was familiar yet had its own little twist, and everything tasted so fresh and clean. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and you can tell a lot of care goes into both the food and the experience. We were so glad we stumbled across it. It’s clearly popular — we tried three nights in a row to get a table and finally managed to get in with a reservation. Unless you’re eating late (after 9 p.m. on a weeknight), I’d definitely recommend booking ahead. One of our favorite meals in Crete, hands down.

We loved Parastratima — a cozy, family-run gem tucked off a historic square with just a handful of tables along a charming street. The food was outstanding: fresh, clean flavors with unique twists on familiar dishes. The warm atmosphere made it even more memorable, and you can feel the care behind everything. It’s clearly a favorite spot — we tried multiple nights before finally getting in with a reservation. Definitely book ahead unless you’re dining late. Easily one of our top meals in Crete.

We absolutely loved this Greek tavern in Rethymno! The food was amazing – incredibly delicious. The service and atmosphere were exceptional, truly that of a cozy small tavern tucked away between narrow roads. We never felt rushed, genuinely enjoying the traditional Greek hospitality. Just a heads-up: it gets very busy, especially during dinner, so plan accordingly. It's well worth the wait for this experience!

Really delicious food and at excellent prices. The staff here are very engaged and helpful. Lovely, relaxed atmosphere and would definitely recommend the stuffed aubergine and salads.
Elaine H — Google review
An absolute hidden gem of a restaurant, tucked away from the main pedestrian areas, a short stroll from the lighthouse. Full and varied menu, with interesting dishes, plus a 'grill' menu to choose from too. We had chicken, lamb and squid, on top of the mandatory Greek salad. Also, the Greek salad was the best we have tasted in 2 weeks on Crete. All food was great quality and cooked to perfection. The passion of the owner is apparent and it shows! Nectarios is a fine man and the place is a tribute to his family.

To Parastratima (Το Παραστράτημα) in Rethymno is a real gem, the kind of experience you rarely get, even in the priciest restaurants. It’s a small, family-run place serving traditional Greek food, but with a unique twist. We were looked after by three people, one a true wine expert, another a food specialist, and the third, a younger guy, perfectly blending the knowledge and energy of the other two. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed, the food is outstanding, and the whole way they present it makes you feel like you’re part of something special. This isn’t just dinner,it’s an experience!

Corina Restaurant in Rethymno is a lovely dining spot with a beautiful garden and excellent service. The food is exceptional, especially the seafood and grilled octopus. They offer a variety of delicious starters and bread, along with smooth raki at the end of the meal. The portions are generous, offering great value for money. This restaurant comes highly recommended by locals for its mouthwatering Moussaka, stews, and Greek salad.
Our first meal out with friends in Crete. Set in the back streets of the historical center of Rethymno this restaurant has a Touch of Class! Lovely relaxed atmosphere at the table, beautiful selection of food cooked and served to perfection and we chose the local red wine. The wine was a light red and well worth trying. We were all very impressed and agreed it was a pleasure to spend our money there.

WOW!!! we just arrived in Crete and I did a quick Google search for dinner as we were hungry travelers ready to eat and have a glass of wine! I found this restaurant, looked at the menu and said to my husband, let’s give it a try. It was amazing!!!! The food was absolutely positively delicious and beautifully presented and the service equally as impressive! We could not have picked a better choice and are thrilled with our first meal in this beautiful island of Crete! Thank you for making our first evening so incredibly special and a shout out to George for making our evening even better!!!!

We were in Rethymno for 10 days and this is the best meal we had in town! Unfortunately we didn't find this restaurant until our last night 😭😭 otherwise we would have come again! The food was outstanding, we had the chicken pappardelle and they made chicken souvlaki for us as we're a bit fussy! Both were really tasty and fresh! If the chicken pappardelle was my last ever meal I would die very happy 😂😂😂 The staff were all really friendly and helpful too 😊😊

Wow, what a fabulous evening we have had at Corina this evening. Food, service and hospitality have been top notch. A stunning restaurant in Rethymno. We came for a day trip and ended it here and it was fabulous from start to finish. Staff were welcoming and attentive, the food was AMAZING!! We had the lamb kleftiko and cretan spaghetti and it was delicious. The best pasta dish I have ever had, if you like shrimp you must order it. We also got a complimentary cake at the end which was a great gesture. Thank you!

Lemonokipos Restaurant, named after the lemon garden it's nestled in, has been a staple in Rethymnon since 2000. It offers a blend of traditional and modern Greek and Cretan cuisine, sourcing fresh local ingredients daily. Housed in an old Venetian mansion with a century-old history, the restaurant boasts a charming courtyard adorned with lemon trees. The garden setting provides a delightful ambiance for enjoying coffee or indulging in their renowned lemon tart.
We absolutely loved it! Spending the days here with my best friend here and we stumbled across this restaurant. It was such a wonderful experience! The food was great, the staff was lovely and the atmosphere just stunning! If we’ll return to Crete again, we will definitely come back.
Sophie V — Google review
Charming restaurant that you can access from one of the quaint side streets or directly from the square. We stopped after meandering the old town for several hours for a drink. I sat down and said to my friend "I'd like a lemonade" and there were 2 on the menu but neither was available. However, two special lemonades were available, one with lavender and one with rose. Both delicious and refreshing.
Daz W — Google review
By far the best food we had on Crete – highly recommended! Absolutely fantastic experience at Lemonokipos! The service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The food was honestly outstanding – I’ve never had grilled calamari this tender and flavorful, and the octopus was just as impressive. The setting under the old plane trees is beautiful and adds to the authentic Greek atmosphere. If it didn’t take us 1.5 hours to get there, I would seriously eat here every single day.

I had heard about their famous lemon tart and stopped by to sample it. Wow! It could well be the best lemon meringue tart/pie I've ever had (and I've tried many). The friendly manager/owner recommended a glass of wine to go with it and it was a perfect duo. The courtyard setting under the trees is lovely too.

I wanted to eat here a few times before leaving a review - This restaurant is refreshingly modern with a gorgeous location facing the sea and the Rethymno Fortezza. Attentive staff, probably the best service I have encountered in Crete and an excellent selection of food & wines, including the sushi menu make this place a unique dining experience. A luscious "keresma" at the end of the meal completes the positive experience.

This was the most romantic and stunning dinner location of my life. The waves crashing at night and the lights of Rethymno fort in the distance made this so magical. And every single dish was top notch, including the Grouper ceviche that looked like an Impressionist painting, and the baby shrimp with mango. Eating here is a MUST!!!!

The food and view was amazing and very reasonably priced. Unfortunately the service was a bit aloof on the day we visited. We felt ignored with several larger tables receiving all the service. A few smiles and a check in to see if we were enjoying the meal would have been appreciated…maybe they were having an off day?

Very nice views on the ocean. I just went here for the sushi. The Edamame were alot.. therefor some of them were cold at the end. The spicy tuna is really Spicy. The only thing i can think of is that the seaweed used in the sushi could be of a higher degree, but this might not be available on crete (yet). Special attention to Klajd, he knows what he is doing.

Rethymnon Municipal Garden is a serene and well-maintained public garden featuring tree-lined paths, charming cafes, and children's play areas. Located near the ancient Guora Gate, it offers a cozy breakfast spot at Gaias Gefseis cafe-bakery on the Old Town's main street. Families can enjoy the peaceful surroundings with a summer open-air cinema and a cozy cafe in Chania.
Lovely park right in the heart of Rethymnon. Not a huge park but has mature trees and is equally enjoyed by the community and tourists. I visited in November but I would imagine it would be very popular in the summer months with people seeking shade. There is a stage for local concerts and a very nice cafe too. Children will enjoy this cyclist sculpture outside the play park.

This garden is truly charming, even if it’s not particularly large. What it lacks in size, it makes up for in beauty and tranquility. It’s a serene place where you can take a leisurely stroll, sit quietly among the greenery, and listen to the soothing songs of birds all around. Whether you’re looking to relax, reflect, or simply enjoy a bit of nature, this peaceful spot is well worth a visit

Wonderful, a nice little café super loud with all the insects but 100% part of the bizarre experience. Amenities all around. Locals are a bit gross as an old man decided to have a urinated against one of the trees.

Rethymnon Lighthouse, standing at 9 meters high, is a historic landmark located in the old Venetian harbor of Rethymno. Built in the 1830s during Egypt's rule over Crete, it adds to the town's undeniable charm. The picturesque houses lining narrow cobblestone streets and a variety of delightful restaurants and cafeterias create an enchanting atmosphere. The warmth and friendliness of the locals further enhance the experience.
Beautiful landmark, made with stone which looks very aged at the current time. We got insanely lucky (as far as i know) and we spotted 2 mating huge Turtles. (May 6th 2025) Its free to enter around the place and you also have some great views over the harbor and beach!

This town in the heart of the island is undeniably one of the most charming places I’ve ever visited. Its enchanting beauty lies in the picturesque houses lining narrow cobblestone streets, accompanied by a plethora of delightful restaurants and cafeterias. The warmth and friendliness of the locals and staff add a special touch to the experience. The bay, nestled amidst hilly surroundings, enhances the town’s unique allure. For anyone holidaying in Crete, a visit to this extraordinary place is a definite must to fully appreciate its remarkable charm and attractions.

I personally thought Rethymnon was more beautiful than Chania. Full of history and vibrant flowers down the small lanes! Less tourists than other places and just seamed like a nice place to relax and explore! Didn’t spend enough time here due to road trip tour! But would definitely recommend a visit!
Xena-Marie H — Google review
Very beautiful place. Popular and the old town has everything.to eat to shop to drink. To many people on weekends and to park you need 15 min.but the place is great
Nikos N — Google review
Situated around the harbour are a plethora of fish restaurants, with waiters trying to entice you in for lunch. Where you could sit and watch boats arriving and leaving the harbour, people coming and going and the sun reflecting off the water. Or you could be adventurous and walk around to the breakwater and lighthouse, and look back over the harbour to the restaurants! The path is VERY uneven and the steps up to the top of the harbour wall are not the best, and I would imagine dangerous when wet, so caution is needed, however the view is amazing, so calm and peaceful. There is some intricate detail in the stonework of the lighthouse. Well worth a visit.

Nice view, you can walk around.

I absolutely love lighthouses so I was happy to see this one. Located next to the beautiful Venetian style Port.

Nice lighthouse with new port behind. Not a massive amount to see at the lighthouse but it was such a short walk it was worth it.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Nestled in the heart of Rethymno, the Neratze Mosque stands as a remarkable testament to the city's rich history. Originally constructed in the 1600s as an Augustinian monastery dedicated to Santa Maria, this architectural gem was transformed into a mosque shortly after the city’s conquest by Gazi Huseyin Pasha in 1657.
This is a wonderful building and has been lovingly restored. As a classical musician, I have performed music in all types of churches around the world. It is a respectful and uplifting use a space, and I’m quite confused at those that criticize this. If you consider the centuries of history and learn that most churches and mosques in the region have been destroyed when the conquering religion comes in, maybe you can celebrate those that still exist and are lovingly cared for as this mosque is. If you can, plan to visit when you can see and hear this ethereal space.

Huge mosque, well maintained in a big plaza. An impressive monument. One of the landmarks you shouldn't miss.
Cookie C — Google review
It has cute streets around it, that’s it.
Aurelija S — Google review
This was initially built on the year 1601 as the main church of an Augustinian monastery (having 6-8 monks). After the conquest of the city by the Ottoman Turks in 1646 the church was converted into a mosque. In 1887 the minaret, which is considered as a great artwork, was built. Nowadays the building serves as indoor concern hall as it offers great acoustics.
Agisilaos P — Google review
They are currently restoring the Mosque, the door was opened so we looked inside. It is in great condition and they are doing a great job on the restoration

Historic Sites
Guora Gate, also known as the Great Door, is a historic entryway to the Old Town of Rethymno. Originally part of the Venetian City Walls from the 16th century, it has survived through time and stands as a prominent landmark. Beyond the gate lies a maze of narrow streets with various shops offering everything from clothing to CBD products. The area is bustling with authentic tavernas and small shops reminiscent of Camden market.
Old town Rethymno is to die for! My husband loved it so much he wanted to buy an apartment to visit :p The restaurants are amazing, the gelato is mostly amazing (make sure to look for Sheep’s milk gelato! That is their traditional way and it is delicious). The history and architecture are breath-taking. Even the shops are some of the best shopping in all of Greece! You simply must visit.
Steph C — Google review
The gate itself is just a small arch but there is lots to see and do around here with loads of shops and restaurants, and a lovely chapel
Jamie T — Google review
Entrance to the cozy old town with narrow streets and touristic although nice restaurants and cafes. People still live in the old town so you can feel a touch of real life like laundry drying above the tiny street.
Kristinas T — Google review
Another picturesque side street lined with small none souvenir stores and a selection of cafes, bestros and other eateries. We stopped at a small cafe at the entrance of the street from the souvenir main street, it had a good selection of slushies and smoothies. I opted for a lime slushy and in the late morning heat it hit the spot, cooling and the lime wash just on the refreshing side of sharp. The wife went for a pineapple smoothie which was flavourful and refreshing. Unfortunately the café isn't on Google maps and I can't quite recall the name to add it but if you're on the street treet yourself to an old school slushy it's perfect for the heat.
Mark E — Google review
The old town is very nice to get lost in the narrow streets, old buildings to be seen everywhere, colourful shops, restaurants. Each time I went I discovered new places.
Marianna S — Google review
I would recommend popping down to porta Guora if your in Crete, endless lovely tavernas and authentic little shops, like Camden market in a beautiful location. You can see fish swimming right next to the walkway and the beach is very close although the sand is like stepping onto the sun without flip flops.
Tim C — Google review
The gate itself is a gate, so simple. But its the entrance to the old town. After you walk through here you are welcomed with local stores and little alleys with restaurants.

Rethymnon Beach is the longest sandy beach in Crete, stretching 12km east from the city and encompassing suburban beach resorts along the way. Lined with tavernas, cafes, and bars, it offers easy access to the city while getting quieter as you move further out. Rethymno town itself is a charming place to stay, featuring a medieval Venetian old town and possibly the best sandy beach in Crete just minutes away.
The beach is relatively clean, there is a lot of space for everyone. The beds and umbrellas are affordable, some even come with drinks and food, but there is plenty of open space. A con is that I only saw one life guard protecting a large portion of the beach and the water here can be tricky with waves, so if you aren't a great swimmer it might be good to come with some props to help you in the water.
Milica B — Google review
We had a wonderful time there, and I will gladly return there again. It has beautiful landscapes, views, and many things to do with your company!

Rethymno Beach is the perfect blend of city vibes and natural beauty. The long sandy shore is ideal for relaxing walks, and the water is clean with gentle waves. Plenty of cafés and shops nearby make it easy to enjoy a full day here. The view of the mountains behind the town is stunning, especially on clear days. It’s a great spot for families, couples, or solo travelers. Whether you’re swimming, sunbathing, or just watching the sunset—this beach truly has something for everyone!
Sadi B — Google review
Beautiful. Clean beach. Need shoes as it’s absolutely boiling. Found a great bar. Staff were lovely. Paid €15 for two sunbeds for the day. Great location. Packed. Lovely beach memory making day.
Caroline S — Google review
Although the sea is pleasant, the beach is very crowded. We also were charged €20 for 2 sun beds and umbrella which compared to some of the other beaches we visited this trip, is very steep. There were no signs advising of this price. We calmly raised this with the gentleman requesting money who was unfriendly. Save your time and visit some other lovelier, quieter beaches a short drive away.
Sam B — Google review
Very nice beach in front of the town promenade. Lots of loungers and water sports company’s. The sand is nice and the sea is clear blue and warm!
Tony J — Google review
Rethymnon Beach is one of the best spots we visited in Crete! 🏖️ The beach stretches for miles with soft golden sand, so there’s always space whether you want to relax, walk along the shore, or swim. The water is clear and shallow, making it great for families as well as anyone who just wants an easy swim. 🌊☀️ The promenade behind the beach is full of cafés, tavernas, and shops, so you can easily grab a coffee, ice cream, or a full Greek meal without going far. 🍦🍴 In the evenings it’s especially beautiful, with the lights of Rethymnon town and the Venetian harbour not far away. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available, but there are also plenty of free areas if you prefer to just bring your towel. Service from the beach cafés was always friendly and quick. A perfect mix of relaxation, local vibe, and convenience – definitely worth spending a day (or more!) here. 🇬🇷✨

Having explored various regions of Greece, I can confidently say that this charming town rivals the allure of even Chania. Steeped in history and beauty, its streets are a delight to wander through. Be sure to take a stroll around the harbor, marvel at the fountains, and explore the mosques and churches. Nestled at the bay and surrounded by majestic mountain chains, the town offers breathtaking views at every turn. Just beware, during the summer months, the cobblestone streets can become so warmed up that it's a challenge to catch your breath at times.

Spilies Beach, also referred to as Mariou to Riaki, is one of the top beaches in Rethymnon Crete. It is situated in a secluded area near the highway and boasts crystal clear water. The beach is characterized by pebbles with cliffs that have honey-colored hues on either side. As the sun moves around during the afternoon, one of these cliffs provides refreshing shade from the intense summer heat.
Spilies Beach is a beautiful hidden gem close to Rethymno, perfect for a relaxing day by the sea. The rocky coastline and crystal-clear water make it a great spot for swimming and sunbathing. The only downside is that it can get quite crowded during summer, and there’s little to no phone signal—so don’t expect to scroll your feed. But honestly, that’s part of the charm. It’s an ideal place to disconnect, unwind, and enjoy nature. There’s also a bar and restaurant right at the beach, which is super convenient.
Sadi B — Google review
My favorite beach in Rethymno area. 100% would recommend a visit, there is nothing quite like this. The bay is surrounded by rocks, that you can dive from. Also, you can stay under them, and enjoy the shade. Go from the morning, as it gets crowded very fast. Also note that this beach only has pebbles, and no sand, so bring your water shoes.
Brigitta A — Google review
We arrived around 10 am and managed to park our car 😁 the beach is amazing! We loved it ! Unfortunately , there is not a lot of space where you can put a towel and relax . Whole beach is full of umbrellas, but we enjoyed it 😁 The only problem is the shower … I don’t understand why we have to pay 0,50 cents … They do have a toilet which is free ..
Alona S — Google review
Loved this beach. We rented an umbrella and 2 sun loungers for 15 euros for the day..we did this 3 times during our stay. There's a small beach bar and a nice restaurant that do lovely food. We ate here all three times and really enjoyed it. The only drawback for me was the traffic going over on the main road bridge, but if you can block this out you're fine. 2 of the visits were quite windy and that made the sea pretty choppy and dangerous. Several people did get a bit thrown around in the water, so beware! The other day was very calm and the sea was beautiful and nice to be in. I would return in a heartbeat.

Spilies Beach A stunning little beach tucked away just off the main road. We arrived early and managed to enjoy it before it got too crowded. The beach sits between two large cliffs, with a spacious cave that provides some shade. For the adventurous, you can climb the rock and jump into the sea from various heights! There's also a small beach bar, so part of the area is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas. We only visited once during our holiday, and unfortunately, the water was a bit murky that day, I can't say if that's always the case. However, it’s definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.
Mema — Google review
Another beautiful beach in Crete. Being located in a small bay when windy, creates amazing waves making ideal for good swimmers only! Sunbeds 10€ for 2. Drinks available at the beach bar!
Alex G — Google review
We loved this beach easy to get to and it gives a secluded beach vibe (which it is) there is a beach club service but you can still enter and lay down. The prices are the best we've seen yet. For a wooden cabana with shades all around 35 euros this includes 2 towels, big water and fruit (we got watermelon) the rock views are amazing and the rocky beach is beautiful!!! A must visit! Also there is a shower, restaurant and wc.
Antonija S — Google review
One of our most favourite beach. Well-served with a fantastic restaurant, it has toilets (free) and shower (0.50€). Free parking is available, getting at 10:00 am there is still a lot of space. It is possible to go near the shore for free, or book only a sunbed for 3.50€, of 2 sunbeds and 1 umbrella for 10€. 2 "premium" sunbeds + umbrella are 15€ and the "cabana" is 35€; all prices are for the whole day.

Asikiko is a well-established Cretan restaurant located in the heart of Rethymnon's old town, offering fast service and delicious traditional cuisine. It caters to a diverse clientele and occasionally features live music for entertainment. Situated near the impressive Nerazte mosque, it provides a fantastic setting to savor local dishes like mixed grill plate and orange pie with raki.
One of the best experiences we ever had in Greece. Our 4th holiday in this amazing country, but this restaurant was epic: from food, to drinks, atmosphere and service, everything was seamless. Tasty, price equity and delightfull.

Thank you for a wonderful dinner, starting with homemade garlic bread and sautéed mushrooms, followed by grilled chicken with crispy potatoes and mustard sauce. I had the sauce on the side, which was better, as the potatoes stayed crispy and I could have as much sauce as I wanted with my chicken. They offered us halva and a delicious liquor on the house. The service was 5 stars, with everyone very attentive and helpful. And the food was not only beautifully presented, but very delicious.

Fantastic food in the old town. Wonderful flavors. Nice wine selection. Excellent service. Classic street cafe atmosphere. The mushroom appetizer is delicious (definitely a 2 person app maybe more).

Accidently stumbled on this amazing restaurant. I was out hanging out in the old town and it was lunch hour. Had to eat something to fuel up. 😂From outside, it felt like a well organized restaurant, and I was not disappointed. Had the slow cooked lamb. With puree vegetables. The lamb was so tender, it felt like melting inside my mouth. And the puree had multiple flavors meshed in together. It was really tasty. The service was quite fast and professional. Even the owner came asking for feedback. They even have a good choice of music. Loved the vibe. Finally, like a cherry on top, I was offered a dessert on the house. Definitely looking forward for a second visit.

I had high hopes for Asíkiko, but unfortunately it was not as amazing as I expected. Overall food was adequate, but the main dish lemon pork was served a bit cold and the meat was quite dry (felt like it had been sitting on the counter for a while). Service felt rushed. Overall experience on an average level.
Suvi S — Google review
Asikiko – a very pleasant and modern restaurant in Rethymno. You can really feel that this is not just traditional Greek cuisine, but rather Cretan cuisine reimagined in a contemporary way — creative and aiming to surprise you. Atmosphere & service – the service is top-notch, and the atmosphere is wonderful (though keep in mind that people might smoke at nearby tables — but what do you expect from a southern country? Everyone smokes here and it’s generally accepted). About the food – we ordered the black risotto with shrimp, and it truly has a wow effect. We also had the moussaka, which was quite unusual (might not be to everyone’s taste), and the fish, which was nicely done and flavorful.

We have no words! We arrived at Rethymno after a long day of travelling and it was the 1st place we saw and thought to have our lunch. In the old city of Rethymno, we didn't expect too much but we have no words of how GOOD everything tasted. Kudos to the stuff preparing everything and of course to the waiters for the great service! We had the pasta with chicken and cheese, the sausage with "kimchi" cabbage (if you have tried original kimchi you will notice the difference since this one was like a pickled cabbage with something spicy) and if I'm not mistaken a paste of beans and mustard, the AMAZING dakos salad which was refreshing and tastefully, grilled cheese with jam and they bring you in the beginning warm bread with olive oil and tomato and in the end they bring you on the house some halve dessert which is light and delightful!

Loved this little shaded spot which offers unique tapas of sorts that the kitchen picks for you - 7 plates and bread were plenty for two people and they have options for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. Entrees too. Charming and REALLY good authentic food. Service was subtle but efficient.

Remezzo Seafood Restaurant in Rethymno city offers a typical Cretan diet with fresh, local ingredients like olive oil, vegetables, and seafood. While it may be pricier than other options, the restaurant provides the freshest fish and excellent service in a prime location by the sea. The owner and staff are attentive and accommodating, making it a great place for families. Despite some concerns about pricing, many visitors have had an amazing dining experience with quick and attentive service.
We were "herded" to our table by a nice gentlemen. We were shown a few options and suggested some fish before ordering food. We got the menu, chose what we wanted and ordered. Then we read the reviews. 2 STARS. We were shocked and quite frightened when we saw the word scammers and the prices some people paid. When we got the food it was the best seafood we had yet. Everything tasted as it should. We finished our meals got complementary dessert and it was time to pay. My but was clenched what the price was going to be for a nice family restaurant by the marina. The price was exactly as it was stated in tge menu. No scam at all. You have to be a nodding monkey to get scammed. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is after something fresh from the sea for normal price.
Kimst3rxvid — Google review
We were lured in by what seems as the boss or leader. We were just passing by and on our way to a restaurant that had better reviews which was located after this one. But he basically took up the space where we could pass and carry on. He even said they have tapas if we want small plates because we just didn't feel very hungry. We found the mezes in the menu which they said were tapas or small plates but they weren't small plates. They were more like sharing plates and we didn't need that much food. We ended up paying more for what we actually want. We didn't want to eat and pay that much. The food was good but not to what we would expect to pay for. The man also offered free dessert but it was far too sweet and in a shot glass . Nothing to be proud of. The taste wasn't anything more or better than other restaurants. We paid €100+ for 2 adults and 2 small kids. Rip off and annoyed that we unnecessarily paid too much.
Proud M — Google review
We wanted to see other restaurants, but we were so courted and invited that we decided to stay. Melanzana was terrible and small. Grilled vegetables, which included carrots, and boiled potatoes. The first time I see potatoes in a set of grilled vegetables. And there was also pizza tuna which felt dry. The service was also terrible.NOT RECOMMENDED!
Анна П — Google review
The food was fine but a bit expensive compared to other places in the area. Service felt rushed, and there was a long line for the toilet, which wasn’t very clean. Overall, a decent experience but could be improved. The best part is the location and the view.
Nestor C — Google review
We ordered seafood plate ( octopus, kalmari, shrimps) and 2 beers. For very poor portion ( as you see on photo) we paid almost 100€. We didn't read a reviews and that was a big, big mistake! But after walking aroud for few hours, you just want to eat and drink and don't expect to be treated like that...
Gosia K — Google review
Disappointed by the pricing transparency. We ordered a seafood platter for two without being informed of the total price. The waiter recommended a mix of grilled fish, king prawns, squid, and octopus, which was served nicely but when the bill arrived, we were shocked — it was 160€ for two people. Everything was charged separately, including each seafood item, bread, and even water, without us being told the prices beforehand. Food was good, but the way the bill was handled felt dishonest. Definitely ask for prices in advance if you choose to eat here.
Ramunas — Google review
The view is nice as it's right next to water. But the food and service could be better: Fish salad (in picture) while looking good, didn't have any fish in it, our order was mixed and the quality of the food should be something else as the local fishing boates are parked right next to the restaurant. Do not recommend. PS. Right after leaving a waiter from the same restaurant tried to get us back in as if we hadn't just paid our bill in front of him..
Niko T — Google review
They recommended the seafood platter and did not say anything about the price. We ordered but I asked them and they told us it was 90€. I canceled the order and only paid for the retsina. This is a rip-off tourist trap. Don’t go there, don’t let them pull you in. They seem to be friendly and greet you with a handshake, show you everything and seem to treat you like a honored guest. In the end it is all part of the scam and all they want is talk you into their most expensive options…

Noble is a fantastic place with friendly staff and delicious food. The morning omelet with turkey is a standout, and the ice cream drinks and carrot cake are mouthwatering. In the evening, enjoying mozzarella sticks and strawberry daiquiri while watching football was delightful. The smoothies, hazelnut praline ice cream, and chocolate fondue with 6 different ice cream flavors were pure delights. Even if you're not dining, their coffee is top-notch and reasonably priced.
This is definitely one of my favorite places in Rethymno, atmosphere is great music also. U can watch premier league matches here and also saudi league matches :). Staff is really kind and food is great, i also been to Noble beach and i recommend it too.

Really nice place in terms of view and location and vibe. But food was absolutely not worth its price. The bread with tomato and cheese was basically stone hard with watery tomato goosh and the portions were a joke. Nothing wrong with the coffee but not worth the price.
