Nature & Wildlife Areas
Paignton Zoo Environmental Park, located in Devon, is a thrilling visitor attraction spread across 80 acres. It houses over 2,500 animals from various habitats such as the savannah, wetlands, and tropical forests. Visitors can get up close to rare species and learn about the zoo's conservation efforts. The park offers a unique Jungle Express train ride and play areas for children. It's an ideal destination for families to spend an entire day exploring and experiencing wildlife wonders from around the world.
Me and my family really enjoyed our day here. Definitely enough animals to make a day out for the family. My kids loved the seeing all the animals but the giraffes, crocodiles and monkey's definitely stood out for us. Maps need updating for toilets as we found some in a different area than listed. Enjoyed the play areas, food areas and a little win a teddy section. Also enjoyed a lovely icecream. Would recommend!

Visited here midweek during the late August bank holiday break in Paignton. We booked in advanced and got a slight discount was around £60 odd pounds for a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children). The site is huge and is a lot of up and down hill so wear comfortable shoes and prepare to walk. There are loads of animals, cafes, play areas for kids to enjoy and they really had a blast. We were tired by the end but was a great family day out, would recommend you visit here if you in or near to Paignton.

A great zoo with a large verity of animals a few of which wasn’t out for you to see but it wasn’t a massive issue. You can see some of the animals quite close up like the orangutans, lions, cheetahs, baboons etc. There is a lot of inclines if you’re someone with mobility issues you may struggle but it is well worth the money you pay to get in. There is a lot of tree coverage so you’re not baking in the sun while walking around. Would definitely recommend

Amazing zoo with fantastic staff. My 2 daughters ages 8 and 13 recently had a junior zoo keeper experience and they loved every minute of it. Jake, their experience guide was extremely knowledgeable, patient, kind and kept the girls engrossed for hours! Thank you Jake for a wonderful experience for the whole family!
Claire M — Google review
We went on a cold damp drizzly day, so some animals weren't outside to see. Im disabled on a mobility scooter. Most of the park is accessible and robust scooters can be hired at the zoo. We were given a map and advised on the best route for mobility scooters. We ate food in the resaraunt. Food was good quality. The only fault was tables weren't cleaned so quickly so hard finding a clean table. We only had half a day here, so we zoomed round. On a nicer day and a leisurely stroll round, you coukd easily spend a whole day here. Animals get fed at certain times, so if you wish to see this, ask at entrance the timings, then you can adjust your route accordingly. We were particularly fascinated with the sloths. Never seen one in real life before, they are fun to watch. I would reccomend a visit, help support this lovely zoo to stay open.
Kelly H — Google review
A great day out, just enough to cover in an afternoon, with not too far between each area. A lovely range of animals of all kinds with good size enclosures for them. Lots of information available at each area. Food and drink onsite is great with a number of choices available. We stopped into the cafe area as the other ones around the zoo are closed out of high season.
Michelle F — Google review
We visited the zoo for my son’s 9th birthday and for an extra special treat we had arranged for him and his sister to do the giant tortoise experience. The zoo is clean and generally well maintained and the animals all seem content and we’re all out and about today. Their enclosures are natural and spacious with plenty of enrichment provided. The giant tortoise experience was great! My son loves them and wants to be a zoo keeper, so this was the perfect birthday treat! The keeper who led the experience, Jake, was brilliant! He was patient and relaxed and easy to talk to, he answered all the questions we had and provided lots of information to the children about the tortoises and the other animals he cares for. He was friendly and polite and really helped make the experience memorable, fun and informative, thank you! All the staff today were so helpful, from Jake to the welcoming staff at the entrance and even the staff in the restaurants and takeaway huts were great! We had a great day and my son said it’s been his best birthday yet, we love Paignton zoo anyway and have been many times before but today was really special, thank you!
Mark B — Google review
The zoo is very large and it's easy to get lost, so I recommend bringing a pen to mark your location on the map you get at the entrance. Sometimes you need to spend more time seeing a particular animal because they're hidden in the bushes or in their huts. The terrain varies, and you often have to walk up or down a hill, so you'll have to take a few steps here, which I think is a plus. There are a lot of animals, but not all of them are necessarily 100% different. 😀😀

Seafood restaurant
Rockfish is a renowned seafood restaurant located in Brixham, offering a great selection of fresh seafood dishes. The restaurant overlooks the Brixham Fish Market, known for its quality fish, and is part of Mitch Tonks' collection of informal seafood restaurants. With its prime location right on the harbor, Rockfish provides an excellent opportunity to taste the catch of the day. Additionally, they host a special event featuring 5 fish and chips every 3rd Friday of the month.
The Best fish and Chips I've had! Perfectly good, kids really loved their meals which included a chocolate ice cream, which was also the best chocolate ice cream ever! Stunning being able to sit out and look out to the sea, we could also see seals which was just a bonus! Service was brilliant. Definitely recommend!
Emily M — Google review
We spent a really nice evening at Rockfish and their mussels and ray were delicious. However, the crab salad was a bit disappointing similarly to the house salad which was just leaves and red onion. The service was okay but slightly scattered which culminated in one of the waiters spilling half of the sauce from the mussels on my lap. Normally I would expect a free drink or a discount on the dish but that did not happen. The views from the terrace were lovely and I added a star for that.
Ewelina T — Google review
We had an excellent experience at Rockfish in Brixham Harbour with my wife and our Labrador, who was very well looked after. The menu offered plenty of tempting choices, and we especially liked how the waitress described the specials, circling and pricing them on the menu as she explained each dish – a nice personal touch. The food itself was excellent and beautifully prepared. While the prices felt a little on the high side (more like London prices), the quality and service made it worthwhile. Our server was outstanding – attentive, friendly, and very helpful in guiding us with our choices. It all made for a really enjoyable evening. As an added bonus, because we were renting a local fisherman’s cottage, our first drinks were complimentary, which was a lovely surprise. Rockfish is a great spot for excellent seafood, warm service, and a relaxed atmosphere with good views of the working harbour.

We had a lovely meal at Rockfish - the fish was so fresh and the waiter told us about all of the fish that was caught on the day. Sardines and calamari to start and the prawn tacos for main. We sat on the outside terrace, which is coveted and that was lovely. Would recommend.
Jess E — Google review
Fantastic food and atmosphere. Doesnt come much fresher than this as it is based at the harbour. Menu is varied on what comes in and is reasonably priced too. Being a Birmingham lad, I was amazed at how good the curry sauce was! We ate their twice in our 1 week stay in Brixham.

Served by a very happy friendly lady. We tried the haddock and chips takeaway, what a bargain for a tenner. Very good quality fish and chips, nicely cooked and a generous sized portion. Enjoyed every mouthfull. This was our first time here, will definitely be back for more.

After walking around town a few times checking the local menus I decided to go here. It’s got a nice deck out the back overlooking the harbour which is nice. It’s got an extensive fish menu so if that’s your thing this place is definitely for you. I couldn’t get past prawn tacos on the menu and I’m glad I picked it too. Yes! They were bloomin’ lovely! The staff are really friendly and the service was quick too.

Rockfish in Brixham is an absolute winner. The staff are superb, making you feel instantly welcome—plus, it's a huge bonus that they're dog-friendly. The fish is stunningly fresh; I had the John Dory, and my girlfriend had the monkfish, both of which were cooked perfectly. And seriously, the curry sauce is the best I've ever tasted. It was a beautiful experience from start to finish.

Brixham Breakwater is a picturesque spot that extends half a mile into the sea, offering sheltered anchorage for fishing and private boats. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of Torbay from this vantage point. The area is known for its diverse wildlife, with seals and dolphins often spotted in the vicinity. The breakwater is wheelchair accessible and provides easy walking paths, making it an ideal location for a leisurely stroll while taking in the beautiful surroundings.
Lovely in the sun . Mobility scooter friendly. Parking small area, paying difficult no Internet ,by phone took 3 attempts. Toilets and cafe.

What a gorgeous stroll along a very scenic breakwater. If you love the sea and a stroll in the sun, moonlight etc then walking along the very pretty part of Britain should not be missed. Highly recommend it
Matt L — Google review
Enjoyed a breezy walk along this stone pier to the lighthouse at the end. A smooth and level walkway constructed on top of granite boulders, with a low wall on the seaward side, it's half a mile long, built to protect the harbour from storms. The view, across the marina and harbour towards the colourful houses of Brixham rising in terraces up the hillside and perched high on the cliffs, was absolutely stunning! This is the best place to watch the steady traffic of small private yachts, excursion boats, and fishing trawlers come and go. Did not spot any seals, but they're not an uncommon sight in the harbour. There's a small beach next to the breakwater with beach huts, deckchair hire, a café, and toilets, and also a small parking area.
Valerie H — Google review
We were able to park easily - but be warned the spaces are tight and you must pay. The breakwater was an easy flat walk so doable for those with mobility difficulties. I sat for a bit on the benches below the main walkway it was so peaceful and the sea was calm a very pleasant place to relax and watch the world go by.

Brixham Breakwater is such a lovely spot for a walk the views out to sea are stunning and it’s so calm and peaceful. We were lucky enough to see seals while we were there, and they came really close to the edge, swimming around and popping their heads up such an incredible experience! The water is crystal clear, so you can see right down to the rocks, and it’s a great place to just stop and take it all in. There’s plenty of space to walk along, and it feels safe and well-kept. A must-visit if you’re in Brixham, especially if you love wildlife and being by the sea.
Joe M — Google review
a beautiful long pier, perfect for a romantic walk or training, there are often fishermen standing on the sides, and nearby there is a nice beach with large stones on which you can easily walk
Alina I — Google review
We had a brilliant time walking along Brixham Breakwater! The views across the harbour and out to sea are stunning, and the highlight was definitely spotting the local seals lounging on the rocks and swimming close to the wall. It’s an easy, scenic walk that’s great for all ages, and if you’re lucky enough to catch the seals, it really makes the visit memorable. A perfect spot for a relaxed stroll, photos, and a bit of wildlife watching in Brixham.

Nestled in the picturesque Brixham fishing port, Beamers is a charming quayside restaurant that beautifully marries nautical themes with modern British cuisine. Owned by the local couple Simone and David Cook for six years, this delightful eatery features Simone as the head chef and their daughter Sophie as Maitre d'. The interior exudes a relaxed yet stylish vibe, adorned with crisp white linens and tasteful nautical decor. Beamers specializes in contemporary English dishes, particularly highlighting fresh seafood sourced from local waters.
I've avoided fish with the assumption that I don't like it. I felt that as I was staying in Brixham, it would be a missed opportunity not to try. I explained and was advised to order the catch of the day, sea bass with basil sauce. I would definitely order again and highly recommend it. Perfect balance, not too over powering. Cooked beautifully. The basil sauce added just the right amount of flavour. Beautiful restaurant and view, very much worth a visit.

Lovely restaurant overlooking the harbour. Visited restaurant last year and this year was just as good. Presentation of food excellent. Steak was amazing- husband had trio of fish and thought these were slightly overcooked. Staff friendly and attentive . Would recommend if visiting Brixham.

I have reviewed Beamers absolutely favourably before - on TripAdvisor. During visits to Brixham this year, I have great meals in your restaurant and have reviewed accordingly. Was here yesterday evening. It was fine, if a little bit unatmospheric. However, what surprised me - and this is Brixham - is that there were no market specials on the menu. Really odd, in my opinion. The previous two evenings I had been to two other Brixham fish restaurants, and great market specials. I come to Brixham for fresh fish. To be fair, your Dauphinois potatoes are good 👍.
Philip O — Google review
By far the best meal we had in Brixham! Great service, perfect food, good social distancing and tempurature checks at the door. The quality of the food was so high, you'd expect to pay twice the price for it. ~£120 for 4 people, 3 course meal, but the quality was that of a gourmet restaurant you'd pay much more for. Quick service and our waiter was very friendly. Vegan & vegetarian options. We had a set menu but called in advance to have a steak instead of fish (as there was no meat dish on the menu, and one of our party does not eat fish) - no problem at all. I can't reccomend this place enough. We will definitely be visiting again when back in Brixham!
Em B — Google review
Dreadful! On arrival ordered drinks -didn't arrive. Then the waitress came to take order, only they had forgotten to provide menu. Starter arrived and finished. They then decided to bring a basket of bread with one packet butter! The scallop starter was undercooked and sauce bitter in flavour. Forty five mins later … no main. By this time we were ready to leave. High prices- Food awful and service the worse ever. Empty restaurant yet staff not at all attentive and no real idea of good customer service. On leaving staff rude and expecting to be paid for food we hadn’t had on the basis “ we’ve cooked it now.” Don’t waste your money!

I stayed at The Railway Inn in Brixham for three nights and had a fantastic experience. The food was absolutely excellent—big thanks to the chefs for such delicious meals! The bar staff were also great, especially the friendly guy with dark hair who made us feel very welcome. The location is lovely, with a steam train passing by just outside the station – such a charming touch! There's also a bus stop right outside, which made getting around really easy. Overall, a warm, welcoming place with great service and food. Highly recommended!

Having holidayed in and around the area for around 15 years we came in a few weeks ago for the first time! It is one of those places that you just sort of drive past on the way to places but we decided to give it a go. The service was absolutely brilliant, the gentleman that served us was a good laugh and very friendly. My sister asked for an iced tea which wasn't on the menu and so he googled, found out to make one and made her an absolutely delicious drink. Our meals were all lovely - the ploughman's was huge! The setting was clean and pleasant and we will definitely be back when we are in the area again!

The Sunday roast has completely changed and unfortunately not for the better. I used to to love this place and would even go out of my way to visit. What was once a unique roast with quality meats and veg is now on par with a low price carvery. (Had better carveries maybe add)

Brixham Harbour is a vibrant fishing port with a lively atmosphere, offering an array of seafood restaurants, pubs, and gift shops. The iconic rows of painted houses on the nearby hillside make it a picturesque spot for photography enthusiasts. Visitors can explore the world-famous fish market and enjoy the bustling quayside filled with shops and dining options. The harbor also features a replica of Sir Francis Drake's ship, The Golden Hind, adding to its maritime charm.
We went for the Sardine Festival - what a fabulous event. Unfortunately for us we didn't see that it was on until it was too late to book a dining slot. We could have queued, but chose not to as they were so long - this was the first one so expect there will b more grills next time - I don't suppose the organisers were expecting such massive attendance. It was great to see some of our finest local chefs working hard on the grills - Nathan Outlaw was wiping away tears on a tea cloth as we arrived! It may have been the joy of such a success at the events launch, but I expect it was the atmospheric smoke from the large sardine grills. The sardines were excellent value, for only £10 a plate and we were able to buy a bottle of excellent local cider for a fiver, find a seat and enjoy the music and atmosphere. This all went on til 9.30 that evening. We were sorry to have to leave earlier. We will be better organized next year n might even find somewhere to stay. Over the moon at the success of this ambitious local event.

i’ve been here around two times the first time I just had a little walk along the harbour and it is a very very beautiful place. Such a nice little town to wonder about him and then the second time I came for the pirate festival and it was packed, but it seems like such a fun community and such a lovely place to celebrate. I would definitely return and also recommend recommended to anybody else.!

Lovely place for a leisurely stroll, apparently you can't sometimes see seals basking on the pontoons - but none on duty when we were there! Lots of places to eat & drink, short stay car park has tight spaces but reasonable charges.

I went to Brixham on a coach trip with my social club. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of shops there from several charity shops to craft shops on the harbour side. Also a replica of the Golden Hind was interesting. I Would recommend a visit to Brixham if only for a few hours.

Lovely place to visit but car parking is sparce so get there early. Nice hut to buy food but expect the price to match the scenery. Lovely shops to visit and had my hair and beard cut. Made a good job and put more sprays and oils on my head than I've used in a year 😁. Had to have fish and chips and a dip in the ocean with the second family. Specialty Museums
The Golden Hind Museum Ship in Brixham is a popular attraction, offering visitors the chance to explore an exact replica of Sir Francis Drake's famous ship. The crew, dressed in authentic Tudor costume, provides an immersive experience of what it was like to sail around the globe on this historic vessel. In addition to the museum ship, Brixham offers other family-friendly attractions such as a life-size pirate ship museum and the outdoor seawater lido at Shoalstone Pool.
I was initially reluctant to come aboard this ship as I thought it would be gimmicky and lacking any sort of integrity, however, this was quickly dispelled soon after boarding and seeing that it’s actually very well put together! The digital guide is indeed in depth, the below decks are well made and you do genuinely get a sense for what it must have felt like. It now has an Airbnb attached to it as well which seems like an interesting stay!
Caïna V — Google review
Great ship, not very expensive to go and see. It's great for kids to go. If you scan the QR code on your phone, it takes you to an audio guide, which is very informative.
Jonathan C — Google review
I spent more than an hour exploring this museum ship, and found it to be both educational and fun! Bought my ticket at a little kiosk just in front of the ship, where you can also buy themed souvenirs. Admission is £8.95 for an adult, £6.95 for a child or a senior, and a family of four can get a combined ticket for £24.95. The tour is self guided, but there's an optional audio guide included in the price of your ticket that you can play on your smartphone, accessed via a QR code on the ship. I boarded the Golden Hind - a replica, but a very convincing one! - along a gangplank. It's a well constructed vessel with cannons, artefacts, and furniture specially created to look just how the originals would have looked. Some good audio-visuals, waxworks, and interactive displays. There was lots of printed info about Sir Francis Drake's adventurous life and voyages, his crew, the food they ate, medical treatments, punishments, piracy, and the unbelievably harsh conditions they endured on board. Be aware that you'll have some steep steps to climb to get to the upper decks and Drake's cabin, and some even steeper steps to negotiate to go down below decks where you'll also have to mind your head. There are fantastic views of the town and harbour from the upper decks, and wonderful photo opportunities! I liked the fact that I could explore the ship at my own pace. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit, and learned a lot about both Drake and this fascinating period of our history. Definitely worth a look!

Well what can I say about this fantastic ship. I must say if it was up 2 hubby we wouldn't of gone on once seeing the price. Think for 2 adults and child plus a hat and sword it was around £25. We entered on the ship thinking it would just be the top deck you explored but no its the whole of it. I can honestly say I don't know who had more fun us or our little one who didn't want to get off and also wanted to go back on everyday. We loved finding the little stamps and getting our little price at the end of it. Would highly recommend this x

All the time I lived locally I never bothered to go on this ship, I always assumed it was a walk around the deck. However, now I live away and have a 2yr old boy who is into pirates and keen to go on board I figured why not…. And glad I did! You have to pay via the cabin at the front where you’re given permission to jump aboard. The first 10 mins is spent exploring the upper decks and the Captain’s quarters which is both fun and interesting. One thing I would say is if you’re not good with ladders or very steep stairs then maybe give this a swerve as they can be very, very steep… as to be expected really! You get to go below decks which I never realised before, lots to take in and great for kids! You can also sort of walk the plank which is a laugh. If you’re with kids then I’d say deffo go for it, you might even get some treasure at the end!

A thoroughly enjoyable excursion around this famous and iconic ship. The information and facts on-board add to the overall experience, helping to bring it to life and cement the knowledge gained during the visit. You get a real sense of life on-board this 500 year old ship. Great way to learn and explore.

Brixham Fish Restaurant & Takeaway is a local favorite in Brixham, offering British cuisine with a focus on seafood and fast food. The restaurant is known for its excellent fish, chips, and proper old-fashioned mushy peas. With its convenient location on Fore Street and operating hours until late at night, it's the perfect destination for a satisfying meal or takeaway of fish n' chips.
Loved this place - greeted warmly and had a lovely chat with server and fellow local customer. Food cooked to order, we got a medium cod and mi I cod and 1 cups. More than enough for the two of us. The chips were among the best we e had - the batter was delicious and the cod so yummy. Ate at an outside table - lovely experience.
Carol G — Google review
We had one large and one regular cod and chips. Very nice, the fish was lightly battered. Only downside is the seating isn't very comfy.
Tim O — Google review
We had takeaway and sat outside the restaurant, ordered a large fish to share and it was amazing! Incredibly fresh and nice fish. Chips could need some improvement but not terrible! Would’ve been nice if there was some shade outside, especially on such a hot day
Ethan M — Google review
The fish was delicious with crisp thin batter and lovely flaky meat. It was certainly up there with some of the best I've had. The same goes for the chips and peas, these were delicious too and couldn't fault them. I only gave 3 stars for the service as the young girl that served me was quite miserable and not very pleasant when being served. I know this is subjective and it doesn't take away from the fact the food was delicious.
Andrew P — Google review
Visited in August, hubby had the special (cod, chips & curry sauce) absolutely delicious freshly cooked fish with superb batter and very tasty chips. I had the mini fish, chips & peas which was also delicious. Would not go anywhere else in Brixham, infact we’re going again tomorrow!

Five dined on Sunday teatime. Excellent juicy fish and home cut chips, both delicious and tasty. Curry sauce was lovely too. Staff were extremely helpful but not over the top, took our order, brought out our food and drinks and checked everything was OK a few minutes later. Would definitely be back.

Really delicious fish and chips, some of the best I've had in ages! We had the fish, chip and mushy pea special which was great value and cooked really well - Crispy batter, really fresh fish and lovely chips. The service was efficient and friendly and our food came out quickly. The view from upstairs was lovely too.

Really great first floor restaurant with comfy booths & fab views out over the harbour. Had the ‘small’ fish, chips & peas (£8.99) which was as much as I could eat for lunch! Superb fresh cod in a gorgeous dry, crispy batter, served with high quality confinements & a wedge of fresh lemon. Brilliant & speedy service too, so overall, an truly excellent experience! Thank you 🙏

Nestled right by the beach, Breakwater Coffee Shop & Bistro is a delightful spot that combines stunning views with a diverse menu featuring steaks, seafood, and sandwiches. Recently refurbished in spring 2023, it’s the perfect place to unwind with a cream tea while soaking in the coastal scenery. The bistro's terrace invites you to sip on refreshing drinks as you watch yachts glide by in the marina.
Fantastic food, especially seafood as you would expect. Puddings even better - family tucked in before I could snap a picture but sticky toffee pudding is highly recommended! Will become a regular treat for us when in Brixham!

I recently visited a cozy, dog-friendly bistro in Brixham with a pleasant upstairs seating area that offers a view of the marina and the town's colorful houses. I stopped in for a coffee and a slice of cake on my way home. The creme brûlée was served still flaming, adding a subtle theatrical touch, and it tasted nicely rich. The passionfruit cheesecake was equally enjoyable. Overall, it’s a straightforward spot to relax and treat yourself, especially if you’re traveling with your dog.

We popped down with the kids, as they always have so much fun splashing and playing in the water. It’s such a lovely spot for families to relax and enjoy the day. This time, we decided to treat ourselves to some crab sandwiches, and they did not disappoint — fresh, full of flavor, and absolutely delicious. Combined with the friendly atmosphere and beautiful surroundings, it made for a really enjoyable afternoon. We’ll definitely be coming back

The Breakwater Bistro is an absolute gem of British dining. The fish arrives encased in a light, golden batter—crisp, delicate, and utterly flawless—enveloping the freshest, most flavourful fillet one could hope for. Each bite is a masterclass in balance: a whisper of the sea, encased in perfection. The chips, too, are a triumph: beautifully crisp on the outside, fluffy within, and seasoned with just the right touch. Service here is exemplary—warm, attentive, and effortlessly professional. My partner and I travelled over 200 miles for what we had been promised was the finest fish and chips in the United Kingdom, and The Breakwater Bistro did not disappoint. Indeed, it exceeded all expectations. And then came dessert, which elevated the experience even further. The waffles were warm, soft, and gently crisp at the edges, a perfect canvas for indulgence. I savoured the Terry’s Chocolate Orange creation—an exquisite balance of rich cocoa and zesty citrus—while my partner delighted in the Strawberry Meringue, a symphony of airy crunch, ripe fruit, and silky cream. Both were exemplary, executed with finesse and presented with an elegance that transformed classic comfort into culinary artistry. A true delight from start to finish, and unquestionably worthy of every mile travelled. The Breakwater Bistro is highly recommended to anyone in pursuit of the very best Britain has to offer.

We visited this restaurant whilst on holiday and chose it due to having some dog friendly tables, excellent views and good reviews. We weren’t disappointed. The food is wonderful. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The beach location and views are amazing, particularly if you get a window table at sunset! Booking advised as this restaurant very popular. Their outside seating and hatch food and drink service was also very busy, offering a different menu but clearly very popular. There is a small car park outside (with multi-story next to it).

Really enjoyed a seafood lunch here, had the fisherman's salad, and two of the specials - plaice and sea bass. Salad was great, lots of prawns, crab and smoked salmon. Specials were good but veg was just plain boiled, could have been a bit more adventurous. Lobster sauce was very nice though. Very relaxing on the upper floor overlooking the bay and harbour, with a good selection of beers also.

Berry Head National Nature Reserve, located at the southern tip of Tor Bay in Brixham, is a must-visit destination within the UNESCO-accredited English Riviera Global Geopark. The reserve offers breathtaking views of the ocean and is home to diverse wildlife, including dolphins, porpoises, seals, and basking sharks. Visitors can explore nature trails, visit Napoleonic forts, and enjoy a working lighthouse. The reserve also features a welcoming café that operates year-round.
Amazing place. My partner and I live in the area from few years now but we never been in here. The place is calm, huge and breathtaking. There is a look up point of all the Bay (Torbay) really spectacular. It is ideal for whoever want to do hiking. There is a little coffee and lots space for dogs. We left the car close by the residential houses and walk to Berry Head but there is parking close by the place. We have a long walk and it took us half hour each way but I recon you can reach the place quicker then half hour. On the way there were plenty of birds: wood pigeon, robin, pheasant, magple, crow.. etc Same of these birds were happy to come close to us as we were passing by. This place could be ideal if you looking for same peace, calm and of course a View.

This is a most spectacular place to visit! Beautiful rugged cliff edge landscapes with evidence of the old fortifications. Wildlife in abundance... we are birders and were blown away by the birds we saw. There is something for everyone here.. if you just want to amble around fine, if you want to bird watch fine, if you want to walk your dog, jog, picnic... no problem. The cafe serves exquisite food and drink at reasonable prices and despite the queue it was fast table serviceboth inside or out. We can't wait to come back again 🤗.

Visitors can embark on a scenic coastal walk from Warren Point to reach the castle, passing by Western Combe Cove and Blackstone Point before arriving at this intriguing site. Additionally, travelers have the option to take a ferry from Stumpy Steps to Dartmouth for stunning views of the town and Kingswear.

A wonderful experience to visit this ancient castle going back to 1388! Fantastic views of the estuary and Dartmouth town from here. You can get a small boat from the town to the castle and a return which makes the visit even better. Walking time is about 20 minutes. It is also possible to park next to the castle but spaces are limited but there is a car park near by. Stunning place and highly recommended!

Great place to visit for all ages. Took the lower ferry across the river. Lots of great information boards and things for the kids to touch/experience. Awesome views across the river. Cafe on site and lovely people/guides who were very friendly. The church at the end was beautiful and was a somber moment for all that have departed this life. Would recommend for family's to spend a couple of hours here.

One of the most stunning castles in Devon. The views are absolutely stunning, gorgeous coastal walk to sugary cove. Have been quite a few times and it's breathtaking. The cafe is ridiculously expensive though and parking is very limited with only 5 spaces

Welcoming the returning sailors or defending the town Dartmouth castle remains today a distinctive fortification matched by its twin on the Kingswear shore. A good walk down the River Dart from the town centre you can refresh and refill yourself at the welcoming cafe. From the castle rest and enjoy extensive views seaward and watch yachts coming and going. Children will enjoy exploring the castle and be refreshed for their townward return walk. You can drive out to the castle but the road is narrow and parking limited. Toilets are available for the visitors.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A fantastic spot in the heart of Brixham! We had a brilliant meal at The Old Market House – the setting by the harbour is beautiful, with lovely views of the colourful hillside houses and boats bobbing on the water. The food was absolutely delicious – fresh seafood, perfectly cooked and full of flavour. Service was top class, friendly and attentive without being overbearing. We sat upstairs in the dog free area and really enjoyed the atmosphere – very relaxed. Would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Brixham. A real gem! Shout out to our server Joy, what an incredible person with great chat!

Well appointed restaurant/bar on Brixham harbour. Spacious dining area over 2 floors including a first floor balcony, with fantastic views over the quayside and harbour. We visited on a Sunday evening and it was fairly busy, but no wait for a table. Our steaks were cooked as requested and were tender and tasty. Meal was well presented. Service on arrival was a little slow but once we ordered the food arrived promptly. Would definitely visit again.

Arrived for a couple of hours in Brixham and you guessed, it started to rain. Made a quick dash into the first place we came to which just happened to be Old Market House. So we decided to have some lunch. O/h had calamari with a sweet chilli mayo which he said was divine. I had a classic prawn cocktail which again was delicious. We both opted for the scampi and chips and it didn't disappoint. Prices are on the high side but well worth it. The appearance of Black Heart made the afternoon! Would we come again - absolutely!

Firstly, Julie is an absolute delight. Second, I might have to return to Brixham just for the mash potatoes. The chocolate pot. The steak was also seasoned beautifully, absolutely gorgeous. The view of the harbour was icing on the very delicious cake.

Such a lovely place ! I ate here one evening during my vacation. I had the table right next to the window overlooking the harbor, accompanied by a candle. It made my experience even more warm and cozy. I had the scallops main dish and I really enjoyed it. The scallops were very well cooked and the sauce was delicious. I was also able to talk to the owners who told me anecdotes and gave me advice on the region. I 100% recommend this place, you will absolutely not regret it! Thank you again for this moment, I had a great evening !

We stumbled across Crusoe's whilst staying in Brixham on holiday. This really is a hidden gem, tucked away above the harbour. The menu is relatively small and includes a lot of seafood, but it is top quality. We visited as a family of 5 and had a 7 year old with us. There isn't a specific children's menu, but the chef can adapt a meal. I ordered the hot rock rump steak, which was a real novelty. The steak was delicious and really good quality and the chips were amazing! Our party also ordered the meatball lignuine, mushroom linguine and the pulled pork burger. All of the options were delicious. There was a good variety of drinks to accompany the meal. For dessert we chose the choc pot and crumble, again, both were delicious. The staff were very attentive and welcoming, taking time to chat with you and have a joke, which made the experience even better.

As a couple we was delighted to find this restaurant. Although it was very quiet we had decided to give it a try. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. We had the Brixham Chowder and the Scallops with black pudding for starter, and both were perfectly cooked( the scallops were so tender they practically melted in the mouth, mains we had the Dover sole and also the Hake with a scallop and Irish champ instead of new potato, which was absolutely wonderful and made perfectly. It was a shame that they only opened Tuesday to Saturday although it was very early on the season. So we both had a good time with adequate quantity of good food.

This restaurant is a hidden gem in Brixham. We've been here two weeks and chose Crusoes for our last evening meal because they offer a lot of gluten free choices, alongside their main menu. The service was spot on, the food was delicious and the atmosphere and views were fabulous. Food was cooked to order and for 2 adults and 2 teens, there was enough choice that we were all happy. The gluten free eater amongst us was also very well fed. We are hoping to come back to Brixham next year and if we do, we will definitely be coming back to eat at Crusoes.

The Quayside Hotel is a quaint and warm hotel in Brixham with a pub with live music and a nautical-themed bar. The rooms are large and have a good view, and the heating works well. The bathroom is clean but there isn't much space around the toilet. The staff are friendly and polite, and the food is good although some of the advertised starters weren't available when we visited. There's a good selection on the wine menu at the hotel.
A lovely 3 night stay, comfortable bedroom over looking the harbour, very friendly staff and excellent food, both breakfast and evening meal. A special mention to Jacqui and Earl where nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable. Can highly recommend! We will definitely return.

Stayed for 2 nights on a Travelzoo deal, good value for money. Our room was on the top floor and large in size, with a great view and the heating certainly works but in need of a refresh/update. Good clean bathroom with a good working shower but not much space around the toilet. Staff were great, really friendly, polite and caring. The dining room looks to have recently been updated and is very welcoming. Food was very good although some of the advertised starters were not available. Good selection on the wine menu.

Really friendly and helpful staff, from the front office to the breakfast staff. Everyone greeted you with a smile The location is great but the hotel needs some money spent on it. We had a very noisy room, floor boards upstairs and below made a lot of noise and the doors also slam whenever closing. The shower was good but the bathroom smelt and bit of cigarettes

The hotel is very overdue for a refurb. Probably should have been done 5 years ago. Clean but worn out. Excellent location, great view, friendly staff and handy parking. It’s let down by the restaurant. Slow service and absolutely tiny portion of fish. When I complained to Jacqui she said you “you don’t get big place round here” Not true. Brixham prides itself on its great fresh fish which we had in other local restaurants. Breakfast was VERY slow and not good when it eventually arrived. Under cooked and poor quality. Sorry Quayside Hotel but is only 2 Stars from us.

On arrival hotel very well presented staff very welcoming and as my partner is disabled they were very helpful we parked outside the hotel and unloaded then returned to the hotel car park ( 5 minute walk away ) we had food in the restaurant and the service was fantastic, restaurant decor lovely maybe not to everyone’s taste but we loved it. Meals were lovely and highly recommend the burgers home made and so much flavour. Nothing else to add other than I will definitely return and 100% recommend to anyone . Thank you Mr A Owen

We had a lovely stay here. Staff were polite and efficient, room very clean and pleasantly finished, restaurant very good and the location is well located. Only two minor negative points. The rooms are not huge and we had one of the best rooms overlooking the harbour. The parking is a bit of a walk away. They can't be blamed for either of these and they certainly wouldn't put us off staying there again.
Martin M — Google review
The room as shown was so outdated and shabby. It was so small with just a double bed, the smallest bathroom and a TV that only worked part of the time. On the other hand the restaurant was excellent. Be aware the pictures on their website are no where near what you can expect when booking a room here.

We headed down to Brixham for a well neede break, and to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Staying in the Quayside Hotel, it was a great base for us to walk around the town and explore the area. This was back in August, and the two things that really stick in my mind is the service and the view from the room. Every member of staff we spoke to was super friendly and eager to help. When we had an issue with our shower, the hotel called a plumber who was with us within half an hour. He fixed it, and we were still able to carry on with our plans that night without too much disruption. The breakfasts finished at 10am, it was cooked well and we had our own tables booked, so everything was super clean. There was a pub connected to the hotel too which was good value and a really nice place to chill in the evening before heading upstairs. Unfortunately the hotel is about four buildings cobbled together, so this is most probably not a good hotel if you have mobility issues as there are A LOT of stairs. It's an old building, there is not much to work with on that side of things. The interior looks like it could really do with a refresh. As we walked along some of the corridors there were occasionally strange smells, the carpet looked in places, like it could do with a proper refresh. But as a hotel, we'd return. The views are amazing if you can get a harbour view.

The pub is located by a he quay and has a good outdoor seating facilities so if the weather is good this is the best place to come and have a spot of lunch the staff are very friendly and the service is spot on We ordered food which you have to go to the bar and get your table number Checked inside the pub and it was empty as the weather was nice everyone was outside The food is reasonably priced When you eat outside do mind the sea gulls I would recommend this place it is nice and just worth for the service they give and the taste of the food is nice too with massive portions

Monday 22/09/25 between 15.00 and 16.30. Ordered drinks for outside table. Waited 15 minutes, nothing arrived. Went to bar and asked where were my drinks. He said, ‘sorry, as you can see I’ve been backed up. The other three staff members present were busy doing nothing. Advice? Don’t offer a service if you can’t supply it (Wetherspoons have never failed to deliver my Order to a table). Also, empty glasses on most tables. I watched customers clearing glassware themselves. Not our job!

We booked a table adding notes that we were bringing two large but well behaved dogs and upon arrival the team had a table ready fitting for the dogs to relax and not be in the way. Mike served us and made our evening very relaxing and enjoyable. He greated us with a smile and couldn't do enough to help us or the dogs. Mike was well informed on gluten-free and able to give me confidence in what I was eating (I'm coacliac). The food was really good, steak was cooked perfectly. I couldn't recommend this place enough!

What a great gem in Brixham! Managed by an Italian who’s turned British pub life to another level à la Crazy Bear style! Enjoy the sunshine and harbour views from the large terrace from the morning until the sun sets. Enjoy the great choice on the menu, I don’t think you can go wrong with anything on the menu from what we’ve tasted… the steak was very well cooked and was accompanied by the most delicious oven baked vine tomatoes, the stake and ale pie was very yummie and accompanied by a very delicious oven baked cauliflower cheese and perfectly cooked seasonal veg. The Thai fish cakes were delicious and there’s even a great food menu for dogs! The icing on the cake was the best Irish Coffee in town made by their super friendly barman Mike. He makes a great Espresso Martini too! P.S. you must try the onion rings, probably the best we’ve ever tasted!

Had a lovely dinner at Prince William Brixham. We phoned an hour before and they were able to accommodate two dogs and were super welcoming when we arrived. Knowledgeable on gluten free options and food was great. Mike our server was super attentive and made our evening. Thank you!

Great tuesday curry night. £30 for 2 including a drink. Good food, excellent customer care (I am on crutches...front of house opened door for me, and changed her seating plan, so we could have a table I could access easily) cheerful staff. Oh and great trifle! A great budget night out...do visit.

Day 3

Off the beaten path
For day 3, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like National Trust - Coleton Fishacre. Not quite as popular as Berry Head National Nature Reserve, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 7 hours.

Historical landmark
Coleton Fishacre, a stunning 1920s country house now managed by the National Trust, offers visitors a glimpse into the glamorous Jazz Age. Nestled near Kingswear, this Arts and Crafts-style retreat was designed for Rupert and Dorothy D'Oyly Carte and exudes Art Deco charm. Guests can explore its vibrant rooms filled with music that reflects the family's connections to Gilbert and Sullivan. The property features an exotic garden that enhances its allure.
I'm making use of a National Trust membership that was gifted to me and so it's my mission to visit any in the areas I find myself in. So far Coleton Fishacre has been the most wonderful one yet. I really enjoy the homely feel of the house, it feels grand but not too grand if you know what I mean. It feels like it would be a very comfortable home and not too stately. The 1920s styling is superb. The staff and volunteers were friendly and helpful, on hand to answer questions and give a demonstration of the servants bell system. There are free lockers provided outside the building but under a covered driveway for leaving bags and backpacks. The gardens, my words won't do it justice. They are simply stunning in mid June, the colours, the water leading you downhill to the sea. Magical. The paths are all downhill towards the viewpoint on the cliffs and are steep in places. They'll put your legs, back and fitness to the test that's for sure. I had a coffee and the most delicious flapjack at the NT cafe, do stop by to build your energy either before or after the climb up and down the paths. A magical place that will stay in my memory as a highlight of my Devon holiday for a long time. The road there was very narrow with lots of passing points but can be a little unnerving for even experienced drivers, expect to have to reverse back to a passing point.

A very nice house with stylish 1920s–30s character, well worth a visit. Parking is easy and free for members. The house itself is interesting, and the grounds are beautifully kept, though being on a hillside means some of the paths are quite steep. The walk down to the cove is absolutely worth it for the views—though the climb back up is a bit of a challenge! The café has a good selection, with lovely-looking toasties and baked potatoes. I tried the pasty, which felt rather undersized and a little underwhelming in comparison, but otherwise it was a pleasant stop. All in all, a great day out.
Jonathan D — Google review
My favourite national trust property. The house is interesting with fabulous views and information about the family. The garden is wonderful and has stunning views to the sea. Cafe was excellent too. On sunny days maybe get there early. Highly recommended. Can easily spend best part of a day here.
Gareth B — Google review
A truly beautiful and tranquil home that is nestled into the landscape. The house is in an exceptionally good condition and the National Trust has maintained it perfectly. Beautiful building, beautiful gardens and wonderful staff who are on hand to answer all of your questions.
The L — Google review
At the end of a narrow country lane you'll find this lovely 1920s property. It's national trust so the staff and volunteers are friendly and patient, the cafe is solid and affordable. House itself seems to have changed a little from last time. I remember the Gilbert and Sullivan connection being more prominent on my last visit about 12 years ago. Gardens are as beautiful as ever. Must visit if you like 1920s style and beautiful gardens. Maybe a little less interesting for smaller children
Jeroen W — Google review
Now this is more like it, nice house to look at and lovely gardens to walk around with some amazing views plus you can burn a few calories off climbing lots of steps (if you want to of course) ready for a relaxing coffee and cake treat. Definitely had a good day here 😁
Robert C — Google review
Absolutely love Arts and Crafts styling and architecture, so Coleton Fishacre was an easy choice for a trip out. It is the sort of NT property that you could easily live in and enjoy the superb garden. The planting style and bed construction is very similar to our own at Mowhay and we left with a few ideas. Food here was a little expensive but reasonable in quality. The walk back up from the South West Coast Path is quite steep in places so if you aren't too good on hills give it a miss, but actually all the garden you need is quite near to the house. Absolutely love the plant identification boards, great idea!

Small volunteer run museum of Brixham history. Packed with interesting and informative exhibits of local links to Fishing/shipping, smugglers & pirates, the railways and the World Wars. Several interactive bits and a play area for smaller children. Free entry with a shop in the entrance, Friendly staff happy to help. Overall a great little place to visit and spend an hour.

A brilliant place packed with lots of interesting items. The two ladies who work there were so kind and helpful, especially with my 3 year old son. They are a credit to the museum. I’m not from the area and was made to feel so welcome so we will definitely be back when we next visit Brixham. There are lots of toys on the top floor and dress up clothes which my son thoroughly enjoyed.

Lovely place to visit, depending on your fitness, can be a challenging walk to get to it, but worth it. I was in no rush so took my time along the route..
Jon P — Google review
Pretty pretty pretty. Love coves like this. Only a short but lovely walk from Brixham if you don’t mind inclines. A longer walk west takes you to Elberry Cove through woods that can get muddy unless it’s dry.
Jon T — Google review
Dog friendly, rocky beach, its hard to get in the sea when the tide is low due to large seaweed covered rocks, relatively easy at high water though. Also hard to get to by foot.
Patrick H — Google review
Hidden gem of a beach, lovely swimming spot and woodland and cliff trails to explore.
Pete W — Google review
Really scenic but the water had churned up the sand when we visited and tide made it not easy to swim in, also not easy to reach. I preferred the cove beside it called Fishcombe cove definitely bring your wet shoes though as it was super rocky in both coves. There were rock pools and caves here and was very popular for paddle boarding and had a boats.
Lina — Google review
Scenic cove tucked away from the bustle of Brixham harbour. A relatively short walk along the coastal path from the harbour will bring you to both Fishcombe and Churston Cove. We decided to head to Churston as it was a little quieter than Fishcombe and only around a 5-10 walk further (the path was a bit steep though). Completely worth it as the views are stunning and the water is crystal clear! Perfect location for watching yachts and other boats pass by, as well as paddleboarding and a short dip in the sea. Not ideal for those with mobility difficulties, and the beach is pebbled, but worth a visit if you are able to.
Tiff W — Google review
Beautiful little cove but it is a very steep muddy stony walk down. You can walk through the woods also on the way down and see a lighthouse on the water. Great for walking dogs
Victoria P — Google review
Beatifull alternative to nearby Fishcombe Cove. Quite tricky to get here if loaded with gear but it is worth it. Perfect for a swim or paddle board. Dogs are allowed. Water was so clean.

It's free to access, but donations are encouraged for its upkeep as it's charity-owned and run by local volunteers. The pool area includes a cafe bar serving snacks and drinks, as well as a sit-in restaurant overlooking the pool and sea.
Lovely free outdoor sea water swimming pool It has small changing rooms which is so handy It’s free to enter , although you can make a donation Apparently it will be closing in 2 weeks for refurbishment

We used to visit Shoalstone Pool way back in the 1980's and had a nostalgic visit today, I loved this place way back then and spent loads of time swimming in both the pool and the sea and it was fantastic. The fact it's still going now is testament to the volunteers who keep it going as it would be a shame to lose it, so well done to them 👏. Visiting in October we knew it was never going to be looking at it's best, and the constant battering by the weather and sea doesn't help, but it still retains a certain charm and character no matter what's thrown at it. Hope to visit next year in summer and try it out properly! 🏊🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️
Mr G — Google review
Lovely 53m seapool with the backdrop of Brixham. There is a long shallow slope at the shallow end so if swimming lengths you are probably doing 40m lengths. Free to use. A road of changing huts. Great restaurant above but no cafe. There is a car park but don't follow the sat nav!
Caroline S — Google review
Visited on a weekday during the UK school summer holidays and some how managed to get the whole pool to ourselves for at least 20 minutes. Staff friendly. Operate in a 'voluntary donation' of £3.50 per adult or £8.00 as a family. Bargain if you ask me. Life guards on duty. Small friendly gift shop. Cafe nearby to get a warm drink afterwards. Carpark and toilet facilities nearby. Outside showers to wash sea water off. Cubicles to get changed in and out of wet clothes. Steps up to these are steep if you have limited mobility. Pool has ladders to get in where it is slightly deeper or a gradual slope for younger children or those with limited mobility. If you love swimming this place is a must.
Kel D — Google review
Not open for public at the moment. They are doing some renovations. But it has a breathtaking view to the ocean.

Lovely place for older children & families. No sand. Sea water pool surrounded by rock pools at either end. Free of charge but donations asked for to keep the running of the pool going. Cafe bar servings snacks & drinks with a sit in restaurant overlooking the pool & sea which serves seafood etc. You can hire deck chairs & loungers. Beautiful views across the bay & we even caught a sneak peek of the resident seal. Parking was £5 for 4.5 hours & you pay on the way out. Public toilets are also clean & FOC. We took a picnic & bought drinks & ice creams. Lifeguards on duty. Free changing rooms. Great family day out with the dog. Gem of a find. We will be returning for sure.

Fabulous fresh locally caught fish and great atmosphere. Views over the bay are stunning. Indoor and outdoor seating with great service.

Dog friendly pending owners grace, sat outside (coverd) on a breezy day (has glass + wind break side walls) however it didnt stop the breeze cooling our food a little too quickly, not the owners fault i might add, should have probably booked to sit inside on a windy day. Food was lovely, limited choice (and seating) with it being a small establishment, service was quick.
Patrick H — Google review
My wife and I had a lovely time at Shoals. It’s a very informal restaurant in a beautiful location, and the fish was absolutely fantastic – so fresh and full of flavour. We started with prawns and calamari, both excellent, then enjoyed the monkfish curry and a turbot dish, which were perfectly prepared and delicious. There’s also a great wine selection to complement the food. The service was attentive and friendly throughout. Thank you for a wonderful experience – we’ll definitely be back!

Outstanding! I wanted seafood for my birthday treat and my husband, knowing who owns Shoals, said this was the place to go for the best seafood and he wasn’t wrong. We chose from the set lunch menu and the food was amazing, the chef sure knows how to cook seafood. Service, views, ambience all fantastic. This lunch made my birthday. I highly recommend.

Fantastic sea food with great views across the bay in a little cafe style place. The octopus with romesco sauce was stunning. Nice walk around Brixham harbour too.

One of the best meals I’ve ever eaten! We booked in for an early lunch (the only time available before 6pm and we were leaving that day) because we’d read fantastic reviews. It was a bonus to find out on arrival the Banjo, my dog, was also welcome! Because it was lunch not dinner we just had a main course each but my gosh, what a main course it was! I chose the scallops and monkfish in a whisky cream sauce with bacon and the whole meal was just heavenly. The waitress suggested that I order some crusty bread to mop up the juice and it was an excellent suggestion! We also shared the broccoli as a side dish too. The view is fantastic and the food even better! I understand that recent months have been challenging for the owners due to the ongoing works on the pool outside (out of their control) and I just hope enough people can overlook this to enjoy a delicious meal. We’ll be back!

We had the Hake and Monktail and it really was delicious, probably the best we’ve had. The chef also gave us a taster of his monkfish and prawn curry and that was also delicious. The view is lovely, the restaurant staff are friendly. I highly recommend.

Walked past it many times when I've stayed at Brixham and never went in. This time I'm glad I did!! Had the full English and it was beautiful. Kids eat for a pound as well!! Portion was brilliant and my 19 month old demolished the bangers, mash and peas. Definitely will be going to eat there again. 👏

We spent approximately £12 per person and received what can only be described as child portions. This was during the Pirate Festival but we felt ripped off. The scampi was burnt and the burgers came with no salad or anything on them. Not impressed. Our order was taken wrong, so one person had to wait, and the food was served in tiny cardboard dishes. The service was generally good and so is the atmosphere. We were disappointed on this occasion. The chips were not good quality.

The naan breads were so delicious and all the curries we had tasted so good and had a lot of chicken in the sauce so you didn't feel like you just got a box of curry sauce. People who work here were really nice too, would definitely recommend!

Consistently good. Always extremely tasty, the hotter dishes aren’t just hotter, they are more flavoured. In my opinion best Indian takeaway in Torbay, and I’ve tried most. Meal deals are epic too.

We are on holiday from South Wales and decided to order from here as it's very close to where we were staying. We ordered our usual order from back home and this place didn't disappoint! Food was boiling hot, beautiful and the portions were very generous! The onion bahjis were massive! I would thoroughly recommend this awesome Indian to anybody on the hunt for proper tasty Indian takeaway.
David D — Google review
Food extremely tasteless, management extremely rude. Collected a takeaway from here , once we arrived home unfortunately the food was shockingly poor. We ordered lamb Rogan josh which looked Indian but wasn't, it lacked flavour and passion from whoever made this substandard dish, maybe the chef has lost the love for his work. We also ordered chicken tikka naan wrap which also was bland and tasteless and the chicken was tough and tasted old, even my Staffordshire Bull Terrier turned his nose up and he's not fussy. After a long discussion over the phone to the owner/manager he reluctantly offered a £15 refund from a £27 meal. I was told to collect the refund on Tuesday as they are closed on Mondays but to be honest they should be closed every day. I have just been back to Bombay mix for my refund, what a shame. I tried to give the owner some constructive criticism about the poor food, he didn't care , his Passion has gone. He said "I DONT GIVE A DAMN" that's no way to treat a customer or run a business. Unfortunately all this man wants to do is serve substandard food and take your hard earned cash. It seems to be all show with the open kitchen , this man cares more about the look of his shop but should put more love into his food, this man is in denial! Get some passion or close down , don't keep taking the public's money for tasteless rubbish. Kind regards Hope you take this constructive criticism positively and I hope it has a positive impact on your business in the future but unfortunately IM OUT

This post is in response to the 2 one star reviews under this one. I was sat on the couch in the takeaway when Daniel Stanoch came in the shop, he was rude and belligerent from the get go. After getting a refund he decided to get louder and louder to ram his point home because he felt like his opinion was the only one allowed. I witnessed this slick haired, leather jacket wearing idiot try to bully the owner into agreeing with him, and when he didn’t, he stormed out like a spoiled child. There was no racism, I’ve personally known the owner for years and he’s the nicest guy. It’s ridiculous when people are trying to do a service and run a business that you have to deal with idiots like this. Both the 1 star reviews are connected, they’ve reviewed the same areas and places in their history. My meal was fantastic, I’ve never had a bad meal from here, it’s always good.

Military Museums
Brixham Battery, a former WWII artillery compound, has been transformed into a heritage center featuring a museum and tunnel tours. Situated on the site of the best-preserved Emergency Battery built along the British coastline in 1940, it offers an enriching and hands-on experience with knowledgeable volunteers eager to guide visitors through displays and artifacts. The free-entry Brixham Heritage Museum also delves into the town's maritime heritage.
Fantastic place to visit. One of the smallest museums I've ever visited but also one of the best. I would honestly give more stars if I could. The staff are very knowledgeable and passionate. When you visit make sure you donate (Free to visit, but they run off your donations), we need to make sure places like this exist in the future.
Andrew M — Google review
Came across this by chance. Originally the site of a 16thC battery created to defend against the Spanish Armada but then reused in WWIl to defend against German invasion. The museum wasn't open at the time but, from outside, it looked pretty interesting and by all accounts it is well worth a visit. There are great views over Fishcombe Cove.

Absolutely worth a visit. All of the volunteers today (121025) were very informative and helpful. Fantastic hour seeing the bits and displays. Please make a donation as they don't charge administration.

My wife and I came across this museum when we were walking along the Southwest coastal path, it was closed at that time but said it would be open 2pm until 4pm the following day. Upon arrival we were met by nice gentleman who suggested the best place to start and gave a little bit of information about the museum, it isn't very big but very interesting with lots artefacts from the 2nd world war. A very interesting way to spend an hour and it's free, you are welcome to leave a donation as you leave.

Fantastic visit we went on a Sunday when they had some extra displays on and even a gun show firing off some rounds and telling you about the guns
Incurable C — Google review
What a great little find this place was. Trying to find things the boy will enjoy while on holiday can sometimes be tough (apart from arcades). This place hit the mark. A fantastic volunteer run display of wartime weapons and other ephemera. Free to enter, you can make a donation which we did but there could not have been less pressure to donate if they’d tried. A live (blank) firing of some of the guns was a bit of a treat for the young one, they gave out the empty shells after to the eager kids. All in all a really good hour spent. Well worth a visit.
Mick G — Google review
This place is a great experience and the people who work here made it an amazing time for my children, they are passionate and welcoming and this really made my children have the best time here :)
Meg S — Google review
My brother and myself visited this last week and it was brilliant. Really well laid out with some interesting things on display, related to local military history as well as wider ww1 and ww2. The volunteers were great and the one that took his time (sorry forget to get your name) was really friendly and took his time to explain as much as he could. Highly recommend! Ps please donate, its a great bit of local history and so well looked after, only survives off the kindness of those visiting!

Beach
Fishcombe Cove is a serene and secluded spot with a small summer cafe that occasionally hosts evening events. The cove offers ideal opportunities for seal-spotting, making it a great place for nature enthusiasts. While the beach is lovely, accessing the sea can be challenging due to rocky terrain. However, visitors can enjoy woodland walks via steps leading from the cove. The area is perfect for dog walking and provides tranquility away from the crowds.
Lovely quiet beach for a walk with the dogs and great for dogs who need to be on a longline as there wasn't anyone else there at the time. It's quite a steep hill so wouldn't suggest for anyone with mobility issues but it's lovely as it also has steps that lead up to other more woodland type walks. 🐶🐶
Lucy W — Google review
Lovely small pebble cove with a cafe and only a short easy walk from Brixham. Steps down from that side are steep so tricky for anyone not so mobile but manageable with patience. Good mooring spot too, with mooring floats to protect the sea grass. Not busy.
Jon T — Google review
Lovely quiet cove quite a few steps to get there back up quite steep!! Fabulous beach cafe owner really friendly, great coffee and bacon bap. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is that it is really rocky getting into sea...even with dive shoes it was virtually impossible not to fall over my husband had a good laugh at my attempt!

I went in here after spotting some birds on wood that I've gained a love for recently. The guy behind the till pointed to his cash only sign but agreed to stay open whilst I ran to the cash point (shorter opening hours than most as this is a small business). When I got back, he was very helpful and had wrapped my purchase up safely within bubblewrap and it was all ready to go. Very efficient :) Chatting to him, he was a really decent guy and the reviews on here don't do him justice. I get the impression he's a little gruff around the decks but he's a pretty decent guy if people were a little more patient with him. Some people are marmite. I get you may not like everyone and perhaps you'd expect him to be chatty to every customer but not everyone is like that. Thanks buddy, and don't pay any ounce of attention to the reviews you've had. It was nice chatting to you ;) and thanks for waiting for me ♡♡♡ Xxx

As many people have said. The owner is rude and horrible. We wanted to buy a painting for £430 but we could not reach it without moving other items. We asked for him to help and he said he was to busy due to watching the cameras as he did not want to leave anything unattended. I once again explained the situation but he just said he was to busy watching the cameras. Needless to say we walked out and will never return. Such a disgusting horrible man.
David — Google review
What a miserable man. I was saying how the masks fog up your glasses and he just didn't even reply, he just looked annoyed that we were in the shop. I said to my Husband perhaps he was cross that he had just opened when we went in and he hadn't had a chance to do anything. We went to the shop as we had purchased ornaments the year before and we liked the items that we saw before. I turned a ticket over to look at the price of one that I was interested in and he shouted across the shop to say that the ornaments were delicate. I explained that I was only checking the price. We decided to leave the shop and look elsewhere. I won't be going back.
Pauline F — Google review
Unfortunately me and my partner has a pretty unpleasant experience when visiting this shop in the summer. The owner is a HORRID, miserable man! One who needs to read up about goverment rules on exemptions. I will never understand shop keepers like this, you rely on customers coming in and spending their money, that is after all what keeps shops going, yet you are utterly horrible to them, and scare them off instantly. Good luck to you, and anyone brave enough to enter!
Molly J — Google review
Possibly the most rude, arrogant shop keeper ever. He just lost a £100 worth sale because he couldn't answer a reasonable question like " is this ornament suitable for outside use?" without making you feel like some kind of imbecile. Going to Torquay where they sell the same stuff cheaper anyway. Really wouldn't bother he doesn't deserve custom.
Paul W — Google review
Doesn't even deserve the 1 star, lovely shop and beautiful items but the man needs to retire now or something needs to change as I have never been served by anyone so bloody rude, went there on 18th May 2023 I asked him a couple of questions regarding some dream cathers but never got an answer just sarcasm and moaning, really want to go back as there is some things I want to buy from there.
T A — Google review
If I could give less then 1 star I would, reading all the other reviews my experience makes perfect sense. This man is obviously getting tips from Victor Meldrew. He lost a sale for being extremely rude, grumpy and very unwelcoming. He really should do the Brixham economy a favour and RETIRE ALREADY.
Bee B — Google review
I dared to ask a question about something I was interested in buying. Although I directed my question to the smiling woman, a scowling man suddenly appeared and took over. He was unhelpful, sarcastic and patronising in the extreme. I left the shop and he lost a sale. He was such an unpleasant individual!

Brixham Art and Craft Market

Market
Brixham Art and Craft Market is a vibrant and colorful market that takes place every Saturday from Easter to the end of October. Located under the Old Fish Market on the harbor side, it offers a wide array of art and craft from talented artisans in the Westcountry. Visitors can explore unique gifts such as soaps, bespoke paintings, and expertly crafted woodwork at Mackerel Works. Despite its small size, this market provides an opportunity to admire skilled craftsmanship and find special keepsakes.
A wonderful crafts market located on the harbour side. Gifts, from soaps, bespoke beautiful paintings and skilled woodworker at Mackerel Works. Not the largest of stalls but gives you a perfect chance to appreciate these skilled crafters and amazing workmanship for gifts and keepsakes. All stall owners were very friendly and appreciated the time to stop and talk, great prices too. 10/10

Located in the heart of Brixham, the Strand Art Gallery is a prominent establishment that has been an integral part of the town for half a century. Boasting an extensive collection of over 400 paintings, with a focus on marine art and local Devon landscapes, this gallery showcases works by renowned artists such as W H Hockman, Gordon Allen, and David Deakins. Visitors have the opportunity to witness artists at work and engage with them about their creations.
really gorgeous gallery with a variety of art - talented x friendly staff too !

We commissioned 2 paintings a number of years ago and returned to commission 2 more but all the local artists have either died, retired or moved away and there haven't been any new or young artists to keep this gem of a gallery going so it is currently on the market to be sold. So we purchased 2 paintings of Briham Harbour to capture this last opportunity for lasting memories which this amazing harbour embodies and the rich history it holds. So last chance for you to visit and perhaps obtain my own keepsake. All the pictures are from excellent local talent. Good luck 🙂

Good gallery. Can't get down to Devon nowadays, but over the years have been a few times. Bought a few George Hornes mid 70's and two William Stockman's. One mid 70's and the other early 2000's, Can't believe difference! As he got older he put more detail into his pictures. When we spoke to him he said in early days it was so busy with tourists he could knock one up in less than an hour. But obviously as he got older took more time.

Very helpful, put pictures we were interested in on a blank wall so we could get a better idea of what they would look like. Not pushy, very knowledgeable about the artist and nothing was too much trouble.

Amazing gallery, I went for a visit today with my son to remanise of when I was younger, watching paintings come to life and inspire me to be the artist I am today! Was greeted with a warm welcome and had a lovely chat with the couple there. The artwork available and on display are stunning works of art and seeing them really brings perspective on how talented these artists are. Definitely a visit everyone needs to make when visiting Brixham Artist.pn -Facebook /insta

The Smugglers and Pirates Experience in Brixham offers a delightful glimpse into the town's rich maritime history, set against the backdrop of one of the UK's busiest fishing ports. Visitors can enjoy a vibrant atmosphere while exploring this charming coastal gem. The on-site café/restaurant serves delicious food at reasonable prices, making it an ideal spot to relax, even on rainy days when you can still take in stunning views of the harbor. Plus, it's dog-friendly!
Really nice & well priced food, relaxing environment & they allow you to bring your dog into the cafe/ restaurant & the attraction. Lovely on a wet day as great view of the harbour. Definitely one of the best places to eat in the area & you don't need to visit the attraction to go into the cafe/ restaurant & open in the evenings when we visited in the summer when we were on holiday.
Alexandra B — Google review
Was extremely disappointed in the attraction. £7.50 to get in and the attraction consisted of just 4 rooms where you just stand and watch what is essentially a 10 min video in each room. There is nothing interactive for the kids at all apart from observing/finding several coins which were in videos and stuck to the walls of the rooms, poor attempt at keeping the kids interested. We were the only people there. Not a premiere attraction we felt. Left feeling cheated out of our money.

Olive Brixham is a delightful culinary gem nestled in South Devon, where wine enthusiasts can indulge in daily tastings thanks to their innovative enomatic machines. With 16 different wines available in various measures, guests can explore an impressive selection by the glass or bottle. The menu features Mediterranean-inspired small plates and sharing mains like cote de boeuf, all thoughtfully paired with suggested wines.
Best roast we have ever had. You cannot miss out on this when In Brixham. Served until 7:30pm on Sundays. Every part of the meal as insane. I would recommend the beef. Every flavour and the amount was just perfect.

It was absolutely incredible, I could not fault it. Service from Raf was outstanding, and nothing was too much. The food was just mouthwatering 🤤 it was the second visit, and again, they did not fail. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone. You will be seeing us again very shortly. Also, the way the wines match the food are insane, you can also choose the wine club and go and pour tasters yourself. Outstanding 😊 Thank you.

Genuinely some of the best food I've ever had the pleasure of eating. My parents and I ordered a large sharing plate for two (seafood paella) and four tapas plates (greek salad dirty fries, honey and harissa halloumi, scallops, and monkfish). We each left full and buzzing, as each plate was uniquely delicious. At first I raised an eyebrow at the prices for such small amounts of food, but all questions faded away when I took the first bite. Flavour, presentation, and texture all 10/10 for this price point.

Nestled near the harbor, Nick's Fish Bar is a must-visit for anyone craving delicious fish and chips. During my visit, I was pleasantly surprised by their exceptional battered sausage, which truly stood out as one of the best I've ever tasted. Although I'm not usually a fan of fish, I sampled my partner's haddock and found it surprisingly delightful—definitely superior to cod! The chunky chips were flavorful and perfectly cooked.
Best fish and chips ever. Wonderful chips, perfect fish. Harbour views.
Lord S — Google review
Nicks was the only Fish and Chips open earlier this month, yes it was all cooked to order, but very greasy, and the oil either wasn't hot enough or was old, so even the chips had a greasy unpleasant smell and taste. Perhaps it was too late in the evening and they were closing up, but I'd rather they just say sorry we're closed than serve us something we tried to eat but binned it in the end.

Was there for a few hours, and was 3 really chippies in close proximity, we chose to go nicks and have to say was so impressed best battered sausage I've eaten. I don't like fish but did try my partners fish and it was actually really nice
Reiss J — Google review
We always come here when on holiday as we loved the freshly cooked fish and chips but we came in May 2023 and the cod was grey and the batter was hard. Called in today 13/09/2023 and ordered two small cod and chips plus roe and chips. The bearded gentleman in charge was miserable and unfriendly. The food arrived but the roe was not battered and the small cod batter was so hard it broke up and was almost black in colour. The majority of the chips were hard and not edible. Then to make matters worse the bearded gentleman then started washing out the floor in the back room -where the potatoes are cut into chips- with what smelt like a disgustingly smelling mop which filled the shop with a terrible dead fish aroma. £36 for three awful meals. Never again.

At Thai is a seafood restaurant located in Brixham, offering local and in-season fish and chips. The restaurant is part of the vibrant dining scene in Brixham, known for its seafood restaurants, fine dining options, bistros, and food pubs. While Southeast Asian restaurants are abundant in the UK, there's a growing interest in diversifying beyond Thai and Vietnamese cuisines. Chefs from other countries within the Asian subregion are looking to introduce their native cuisines to the UK.
This is probably the best Thai food I’ve had in the UK. We stayed in Brixham harbour for a few nights and tried most of the local restaurants, this was our favourite. There are only a handful of tables so we booked ahead. A great independent restaurant, would highly recommend.

We have visited Thailand a lot and are really into Thai food, and I have to say that the food here is fantastic, as is the friendly and enthusiastic service. One of the best Thai meals I’ve had anywhere. It is quite a small restaurant so I’d definitely recommend booking in advance. Highly recommended.

Food was fantastic. I ordered the Panang Curry with Coconut rice. Sauce was creamy and the chicken was high quality. Rice was sweet and complimentary to the curry. Serve was superb and I felt very welcome. Atmosphere is pleasant with Thai ornaments and music playing to give a traditional experience. 100% recommend, would come again.

In fact, it was so good I nearly made another reservation for tonight just to have it again. Every dish I’ve had here has been nothing short of divine. Without a doubt, this is my favourite restaurant in Brixham… actually, in all of Devon!

We stumbled across La Petite Maison while on an afternoon visit to Brixham. It looked inviting from the street and it didn’t disappoint. Service was friendly and efficient and the food was amazing. I need to avoid gluten and there were plenty of options on the menu. I chose the scallops as a starter which were beautiful. For my main I had sirloin steak with french fries, salad and a Cafe de Paris sauce. I can honestly say I enjoyed every mouthful. I managed to eat it all which speaks volumes as generally I have little appetite since being seriously unwell with a brain tumour. My husband chose the mushroom starter and Sea Bass with sauce vierge. He was equally impressed. We shall definitely be returning. Thank you La Petite Maison for such a lovely dining experience.

Absolutely outstanding . Such a Beautiful restaurant serving incredible food. The 2 holiday flats above the restaurant offer the ultimate accommodation on Brixham Quay. Staff are more than happy to deliver food to the flat if you fancy eating from your room with a view . Thank you for an amazing long weekend.

The first time I had the French toast it was perfect! The second time it was gooey, like under cooked - gooey throughout. Asked the waitress if that level of gooey was normal and they said it was since it’s soaked. I’m aware of the process of cooking it but this was kind of off putting since the textures were so different from the first time and second time. Consistency would be appreciated, or offer a solution when something is off with an order x

Best full English I've ever had! High quality ingredients, super dense Toulouse sausages, streaky bacon, amazing egg, hash brown, mushroom, vine tomatoes, sourdough toast and the bean cassoulet instead of baked beans was a genius swap. Definitely recommended!

Wow! Excellent experience from start to finish. We both had the Lamb Shank and it fell off the bone! Came with mash and for me, mushrooms - they were top drawer! The waiter helped us with the wine selection and we went with French of course - another wow! The thing La Petite Maison got right - that many others do not, was striking the perfect balance with a touch of class & elegance - with smart casual dining. The service was perfect - not stiff or slow - but attentive - without smothering customers or rushing things. The food is sensational. We will remember that evening for a long time. Thankyou guys.
