Nature & Parks
Bodies of Water
Dartmoor National Park covers an expansive area of 954 sq km, offering various outdoor activities such as walking, horse riding, and rock climbing. The park also provides seasonal guided tours for visitors. Additionally, the nearby town of Bovey Tracey serves as a hub for arts and crafts, hosting the Devon Guild of Craftsmen and the Contemporary Craft Festival.
An unforgettable place where sheep wear leopard print and cows rule the roads. We visited Dartmoor National Park — and it felt like stepping into a slower, older rhythm of life. Rolling hills, heather, wind… and sheep with spotted wool that looked oddly like leopard-print leggings. They wandered freely, completely unfazed by people — like they owned the land. Cows strolled casually down the roads, and drivers patiently waited. It was funny at first, but totally normal here. We loved the ruins of ancient stone structures — covered in moss and filled with silence. Found a small waterfall hidden between rocks — a real gem. If you're looking for a place where nature follows its own rules — this is it. We'll definitely be back.

Did the 13 Tors day hike for Marie Curie Charity. Amazing views and people! Just need to prep gear, snacks, take all your rubhish with you, observe the byelaws and remember to use toilets!
Peter Y — Google review
Spectacular place, so much to see and do, if you like Tors, desolate moors, valleys with trees, reservoirs, lakes, streams, rivers and woods, then this is the place for you. Wonderful to see all the Dartmoor ponies and foals, cattle and sheep roaming free. Loads of walks from easy, to moderate, to hard ones, so many different Tors to see.. Lots of cycling tracks, and areas to go horse riding. The scenery is breathtaking. Plenty of pubs along the route to stop at for food and drink. Places to stop for picnics as so many car parks all over the moors. Stunning little villages around too. Well worth a visit.
Ilona — Google review
Every time I visit England, I always love going back to Dartmoor. I first came here as a child, and it’s just as beautiful now as I remember. The hikes are great, whether you want an easy walk or something more challenging, and the scenery is stunning. Seeing the wild ponies and the wide open moors always makes it feel special. It’s one of those places I never get tired of visiting.
Sarah — Google review
I love this place with all my heart. I’ve walked across the moors countless times, and every time I go, it’s better than the last. Standing on top of Haytor Rocks feels like nature itself is running through my body like lightning.
Billy B — Google review
Wild, slightly windswept, exposed, grassy, treeless, and a lot of cute horses. Reminds me a lot of Forest of Bowland in Lancashire, but of course, with the granite, it is its own beast. The views are expansive, and it shuttles you between a handful of high, bumpy plateaus, then short fast dips into verdant hedgerowed hamlets, then back into windswept plateaus again. Perfect countryside for bike riding, and hopefully the suggested speed limits on the road are adhered to, as the straight roads do seem to encourage wild driving at times. I love the big descent down Pork Hill to Tavistock, and the one down to Exeter - and of course they are for great ascents too, nice and steady. Come to see the cute Dartmoor Ponies too - they’re very short and quite timid, like Shetlands without the attitude problems. but treat them with care, they still need to feel wild, not domesticated.
Gordon D — Google review
Bleak desolate and absolutely stunning! My first visit as a teenager; Dartmoor near Okehampton… it has pulled me back my whole adult life, my favourite place to hike! It has everything. It’s peaceful, interesting and makes you want to keep going back for more. It has a wealth of interesting things to see, old ranges, rock formations and plenty of wildlife. You can hike for days and still be just as blown away by the scenery. At certain times of the year you might even spot a few Army cadets from the local camp dotted around the area. If you’re looking for somewhere to hike, unwind and take a breath this area definitely doesn’t disappoint!
A K — Google review
Dartmoor is a wonderful National Park to visit, just to look or walk. So much history. We are so lucky to have this on our doorstep. A great place to cycle, motorcycle, or even drive your car. Remember to bring protective clothing if you plan on walking, as the weather can change dramatically in little time. Enjoy seeing the wild ponies, but remember to never feed them, this encourages them onto the roads and increases the chances of accidents. Please also remember that the speed limit is 40mph, and for good reason. By far the majority of people adhere to the limit, but a few don't.

The South Devon Railway is a 19th-century valley steam railway that offers a scenic seven-mile journey along the River Dart between Buckfastleigh and Totnes. The railway features heritage rolling stock and provides disabled access with reserved spaces for wheelchair users. Visitors can explore the South Devon Railway Museum, enjoy a tearoom, and browse through a model and gift shop at the main station in Buckfastleigh.
Excellent all the way ! We enjoyed the Sunday afternoon tea experience ....fantastic quality . Great selection of finger sandwiches and savouries , freshly baked scones, and cakes. The staff were very attentive and friendly but not intrusive. The steam train experience is lovely as always . 10/10

A wonderful place to visit if you like Steam Trains. A pleasant ride and experience. We did not book and there was plenty of seats as there were several carriages. The museum has plenty of exhibits to look at. The shop is big and they have a large cafe. Great selection of tasty treats though note it's card only. Parking was not too bad.
Abi S — Google review
A wonderful heritage steam railway line with a brilliant and well stocked model shop at Buckfastleigh Station. The volunteers and staff were friendly and knowledgeable. They helped people on and off the train with a smile. I enjoyed having a walk around the station, yard and the small museum at Buckfastleigh. The steam train ride to Totnes was a gentle trundle through the countryside pulled by a GWR Pannier tank loco and along the river Dart. A really enjoyable day out, if you're in the area check it out. I loved it but I do love trains!

Lovely day out on this heritage railway with views along the Dart Valley. Interesting exhibits at all 3 stations and a nice cafe and gift shop at Buckfastleigh. All the volunteers had smiles on their faces and clearly enjoyed what they were doing. Not a criticism but a suggestion, there was little or no signage at Buckfastleigh to direct you to the town centre If anyone wanted to go there. However on the Monday we visited, everywhere except one pub was closed.

Avoiding a wet drizzle day, lovely steam train ride with a mini museum history thanks for our day out...... 🚂 Tip: (if you have BR Pass, need to buy at kiosk as you can't purchase online).... Bacon 🥓 and sausage roll and tea was yummy for this wet day

Wife and I enjoyed the ploughman's lunch which was fantastic. The food was excellent and the service friendly and well orchestrated on the 1hr 30 steam train round trip. You can also use your ploughmans lunch tickets on the line all day. A small museum is worth the visit as well as the shop and cafe.

A lovely trip on along the River Dart on a fabulous steam train. Butterflies and Otters at one end in Buckfastleigh and the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm at the other. Very friendly staff

We visited in the Easter Holidays. We did a round trip and there were plenty of spaces. Cafe, gift shop all well equipped although our sandwiches were a little stale at 12:00. Coffee and ginger bread man on the train were great though from the trolley. Would recommend especially if you have a fan of steam trains! Staff were great also 😄 🚂

Pennywell Farm, located near Buckfastleigh in South Devon, is a family-friendly farm attraction offering a wide range of activities and experiences for visitors. The farm is home to various animals including miniature pigs, lambs, rabbits, guinea pigs, donkeys, ponies, cattle, alpacas, deer, ferrets, tortoises and hedgehogs. Visitors can engage in hands-on activities such as feeding the animals and milking goats.
I took my 18 month old daughter to pennywell farm and she absolutely loved it. There's activities every 30 minutes, favourites of my daughters were the bottle feeding of baby goats and the goat walking. There are lots of animals to walk around and meet, and you can buy some animal feed and can feed certain animals too. They are all clearly sign posted which animals you can and can't feed. My daughter loved feeding the sheep and goats, and meeting the ponies in their paddocks. The little train ride was good fun too! There are plenty of play areas, including indoor bouncy castles and a toddler area outside. Both were a hit with my daughter. The bubble and bop area was really good fun too. There's another big outdoor play area, but that's for older children, but it looked really good and I will definitely bring my daughter back when she's bigger. The staff were all really friendly. We had a hot chocolate and sandwich from one of the cafes whilst we were there. They were a bit expensive, but that's expected at places like this.

A truly magical visit to Pennywall Farm! We absolutely loved our time here and honestly don’t know where to start—it was just amazing. Spending time with the animals, feeding and cuddling them, was so refreshing not only for the kids but for us as parents too. My husband definitely enjoyed dance with piggy mascot as well as our kids did. The atmosphere is incredibly warm and welcoming. Everyone we met was kind and helpful. A special mention to Chris, the owner—we think he’s retired now—but he still shares stories about the farm with such pride and joy. He was genuinely inspiring. Even though the farm was busy, there were no queues for anything, which made the whole experience relaxed and enjoyable. Highly recommend this place for families with children, and honestly, for any adults who just want to reconnect with animals and nature. You can really take your time here—stroke, feed, cuddle—it’s just such a wholesome, lovely experience. We’ll definitely be back!

We went to the date night at Pennywell Farm last night and it was amazing! The staff were so lovely and friendly and the animals are so well looked after and adorable! We were able to cuddle the little piglets and rabbits, bottle feed the goats and feed other animals. The views were so nice as well. We honestly had the best time walking around and seeing it all. Great atmosphere. Thank you SO much ❤️

Absolutely brilliant place to visit! We found Pennywell farm when searching for somewhere to visit en route to our holiday park. Even on a wet Monday we still had a fantastic time. There’s plenty of animals to feed in the dry. Feed was available to purchase at the entrance/shop. The goats will definitely make you giggle. From the incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable staff giving talks, to holding a piglet. Both children aged 2yrs old were fully engaged and made to feel welcomed by staff. There’s also plenty of hand washing stations located around the site. The views from the top of the viewing tower give you a 360 panorama of picturesque Scenery which all compliment its truly beautiful location. We loved it so much we returned on the Friday, on our way home from our holiday. If you have the opportunity to pay Pennywell farm a visit it’s well worth it! Thank you to the team at Pennywell farm for building something truly beautiful for many generations to enjoy and making us feel so welcomed!

This was a fantastic day out from start to finish. I suggest booking online as they are really busy at peak times. There is a large barn where children can cuddle all sorts of animals: mice, rabbits, baby goats and miniature pigs. You have plenty of time in there and can return later in the day. You can bring your own blanket or buy a small one at the farm entrance for £3. So many activities, see the photo showing then all. Pig racing was really fun to watch. There's a tractor ride, a small train, pond dipping , go karts and so much more. Highly recommend this place. The goat feeding was funny to see as the children all line up around an enclosure fencing with the bottles ready and the goats are let out to excitedly find a bottle to feed from. You can buy animal food to feed the alpaca, deer, goats etc. Plenty of food stalls with a good range of food and drinks. Not too bad prices for an attraction. There is a fire pit so you can buy marshmallows on sticks to toast there. There is free mini golf to play, nice climbing structures and a maze too. Make sure to go for the whole day as you need it to do everything. We got a discount code that allowed us to visit again within a week.

Absolutely wonderful experience. We came to visit as a way of celebrating our 9th wedding anniversary. Grounds are well kept and animals well loved. Every member of staff was smiling and it was obvious they enjoyed working there, they had a genuine friendly manner. Mark led the activities all day and he had just the right amount of enthusiasm whilst not being annoying. Our almost 2 year old had a great day, not sure if we would be happy to pay an extra near £20 for him once he turns 2 though, but it was definitely worth the price paid for 2 adults. If you can afford it then make sure you go as it’s a great day out!

We just had the most amazing day at Pennywell Farm. There’s no shortage of exciting activities to do. Our favourite experience had to be having cuddles with the animals! The team were incredibly helpful and enthusiastic and really contributed to our overall enjoyment during the day. Especially Lucy, who was super friendly and helpful, and amazing with the kids, and clearly has a love for all the animals- she went above and beyond throughout the entire day. As well as Evie who was in the pet cuddling area, she was attentive and friendly. Always prepared to ensure that everyone was happy and had a fair experience with the animals!

Brilliant day!. We went to Pennywell about 7 years ago when are children were young. Lots has improved since then and its clear to see substantial investment has been made. Loved all of it, especially the piggy/animal cuddles. Staff were really friendly and helpful. The whole family really enjoyed our day. Will definitely come again.

Trago Mills is a massive shopping center located on the eastern side of Dartmoor, offering discounted garden, household, and homeware products. It's not just a store but also a fun day out for the whole family with a variety of attractions including a cafe and Family Fun Park with rides for all ages. The site also features independent franchises and shops such as Co-Op supermarket, Warrens Bakery, take-away outlets, fruit & veg stall, and visiting mobile butcher every Saturday.
Massive shop with everything under one roof for you home including garden centre. Few coffee and dining options and family entertainment activities. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Always had love/hate relationship with trago. They stock a vast range, but sometimes I still can't find what I want & all the prices aren't that reasonable. Since I last visited in march trago have had a good sort out, rearranged & a tidy up, new clean toilet facilities, it's looking so much smarter & less cluttered. I managed to buy floor vinyl I needed & a new jacket I've been after for a good price. Helpful staff. If you've never been into the garden centre to the very top it's a must, in all the years I've visited, this was my first around the beautiful gardens, I was amazed. Especially beautiful on a lovely day. Worth a visit. Sat outside with a cuppa whilst waiting for our flooring order.

I haven't been here for years but came with family my great nephew had lots of fun on the different slides and we all enjoyed our trip on the train aswell as looking around at the toys etc also we loved the railway set up inside and enjoyed our lunch in the cafe so definitely tempted to visit again

If you've never been before imagine 4 or 5 warehouses put together just to sell pretty much anything you can think of buying. There is also a separate warehouse for building supplies etc. It's big. Like park up and spend the best part of a day big. Cafes and concessions and toilets included. On top of all that, the staff are friendly and welcoming. Oh, there is also a mini railway 😂 and a full children's play park, what more could you need or want? They have it covered. We enjoyed it.

Yay.... trago Mills finally has trolleys!! If you like shopping you will love trago Mills. Its hard to think of things that trago doesnt sell. After youve shopped out, go grab some food at the many eateries or in the cafe. Lots of choice. We saw the peacocks again too.

Country park
Stover Country Park, located on the outskirts of Newton Abbot, spans 114 acres of diverse natural landscapes including heathland, grassland, woodland, a lake and marsh. The park offers various activities for visitors such as exploring the Ted Hughes Poetry Trail which features sixteen poetry posts related to the natural world. Nature enthusiasts can also take advantage of the Nature Interpretation Centre with live streaming cameras showcasing local flora and fauna.
What an absolutely lovely country park! Lovely flat access, clean and well maintained, beautiful scenery and wildlife. We went later on one evening while on holiday and saw the bats! They are amazing! Thank you, highly recommend!

Love this place. Always see lots of wildlife and walkways are well maintained. The resent refurbishment of the visitor centre is great & the coffee van serves good coffee & snacks. Would be nice to have an indoor coffee shop though as when the weather isn't great it's nice to be able to stay dry whilst enjoying a drink.
Emma G — Google review
Spent a couple of hours walking round the woodland, lake and many ponds. More fun if you walk off the gravel paths and go through the narrow woodland tracks. It's much larger than you first think, over 114 acres, and lots of pine trees and mixed deciduous. Home to many water birds and the occasional Mandarin duck. Originally the estate and Manor House was the home of the Seymour family who were Dukes of Somerset. In 1932 the house was converted into a girls school and is co-educational today. Well worth spending time walking around, surrounded by Devon tranquility.
Robin P — Google review
Stover looking a little shabby in these photos as they undergo dredging works to clean the lake and replant native trees. Still a lovely place to visit. Pop into the visitor centre to access the toilets and find out more about the park and area. Take along some food to feed the birds and squirrels. There's a Ted Hughes poetry trail with wood carved animals to find. The path around the lake is level access and suitable for wheelchairs and mobility scooters. There's an accessible viewing platform and if you're lucky you might spot a resident woodpecker. The coffee stall is good and offers plant milks, although they've recently changed cake supplier so their vegan options are sparse. Plenty of spots to have a picnic or rest if legs are tired and loads of photo opportunities including a wooden horse and carriage. Remember to pay for parking (approx £2.50 for 2hours). Trago is 5 minutes down the road offering a huge department store, restaurant, street food, builders merchant, rides for kids and adults, indoor play area and animal enclosures.
Venetia M — Google review
Great place for a walk around the lake. If you look closely you can spot all types of birds. It's a great place to bring the kids to engage in nature.
Kerry G — Google review
Perfect for everyone and so much to see. Very good paths around the lake area, pushchairs, mobility scooters and similar should all be fine, it was dry today so not sure what they would be like when raining. Plenty for kids to see and do as well. We explored the land beyond the lake following the Heritage Trail, such a mix of woodland, pine woods, fields, country lanes, canal everything! The Canadian WW1 memorial is well worth stopping at if you pass it, so tastefully done and a fascinating story. The pine woods are also worth a look, they are like something out of a movie set, the colours make it look like another planet ( well we thought so 🙂) Some good spots for dogs and kids to paddle in that are well away from the lake so the wildlife isn't disturbed. There is so much wildlife to see, we even saw a Mandarin duck which we've never seen before and didn't realise they were now in the UK! The best bit was waiting for us at the end - Fuelled By Caffeine! So many fab drinks, cakes, traybakes and similar. We opted for ice cream tubs which were local (Plymouth) and lush with the nice touch of a flake to go with them. Dog ice cream too, always a winner! Plenty of parking, could imagine it being a bit tricky sometimes if it's very busy but really well laid out and well priced, you can pay by app (Ringo) or contactless. There are signs about phone signal but we had no problem and the rangers office is nearby if you get stuck.

Lovely sunny 🌞 morning, arrived at the park before 7am our favourite time to be there as lovely and quiet. To be honest now is not the best time to visit as there's a lot of work going on restoring the lake and woodlands so not as pretty as usual and I think a lot of the wildlife have retreated away from the main lake to quieter and more secluded parts of the park but it was still a lovely walk and very interesting to see what was talking place.

Absolutely fantastic! FREE parking, FREE to enter and so much to see and learn! Brilliant for people of all ages. Pottery museum, Glass museum and glass blowing demonstrations to enjoy FREE. Hand made marble pick and mix at a brilliant price starting at 5p per marble. Various marble runs throughout the museum are works of art and the giant marble run in the shop is brilliant also. Staff were brilliant and the glass blowers were fascinating to watch and their work is insane!! Coffee shop onsite with some lovely coffee. It was a bit slow getting served but they were busy, so kind of expected. Outdoor games garden for kids of all ages 😂 Toilets and disabled friendly

Such a lovely place to visit. The museum is very interesting and the kids there clearly loved the exhibits. We saw some glass blowing demonstrations and visited the cafe. There's a large play area for the kids to enjoy and the gift shop is HUGE! A great "free" attraction where you can entertain the kids and only spend what you can afford. Highly recommend

Lovely place to visit - a few free museums (with buttons to press to make marbles run) and live glass blowing demos going on to watch. Cafe was really nice with indoor, outdoor and conservatory seating. We had cream tea which was superb. Only complaint is that the tables are a little small. Very busy so advisable to book especially if you're a big group. Gift shop is full of gorgeous stuff but pricey. All in all a great putstop on the way home from Devon.

An amazing experience full of interesting information, fascinating marble runs and a very large gift shop (parents beware! 😆) there's also a nice outdoor play area and coffee shop too. Well worth the visit, especially on a rainy day during the hols (it does get very busy though!)

We were surprised how good this place was. Visited on a whim as on the map on the way home. The shop had some great childhood memories to purchase and the marble runs where great fun to start and watch. Was surprised that the shop kept going and going. Watching items being made as well was very interesting. Staff very polite and helpful.Highly recommend.

All the times I have been to Devon and I never knew this place was here. Absolutely wonderful place. The shop has literally everything in it. I struggled to get my child out. Loved watching the glass blowing and my little on was extremely excited to go in the play park. He also got his first little bag of marbles which he is very excited to play with. Definitely worth a visit.

Quite a nice place to visit to checkout the marbles, pottery and glass blowing areas of the museum with interesting items on show and to watch with a fair sized area with things to buy (lots of Marbles 😁) over two floors, also a cafe, I enjoyed it and had a little spend (I now have a spare bag of marbles for when I loose mine lol).

Carvery
Toby Carvery Plymouth is a beloved family-friendly restaurant that specializes in serving delicious roast meats in a carvery-style setting. Open every day, this establishment offers an array of tender, slow-cooked meats alongside a generous selection of vegetables and classic British desserts. Whether you're stopping by for a hearty meal after a long day or enjoying time with loved ones, Toby Carvery ensures there's something for everyone on the menu.
I had an amazing experience at Toby Carvery! The food was fresh, perfectly cooked, and the roast options were plentiful. What really made our visit special were the staff—Troy and Matthew went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. They were friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome. Thanks to them, our meal felt extra special. I’ll definitely be coming back soon!

We love visiting Toby carvery in Plymouth with our children. Food is always hot and available on the carvery. We definitely will return again in the future. Also a shout out to our server Jess. She had such a warm personality and is a valuable member of the team. Thanks Jess you made the dining experience perfect.

Impromptu family breakfast on a wet Sunday. The staff member taking the orders at the bar was really helpful and friendly but I think we arrived during the changover from breakfast to lunch, waited a long time for veggie sausages to arrive. Food was good and worth the price 😊

Came on Friday with family. It was very busy when we arrived but we had a great waitress Jess who genuinely went out of her way to ensure we had a good experience. She was very friendly, kind and informed us how everything worked - where we ordered our food from etc. Couldn’t fault her. The food was good, especially the pork, and we enjoyed our visit.

Had a fabulous time in the carvery today! Was served by Amber, a truly wonderful young lady, who went out of her way to make mine and my grandparents evening magical. Would recommend to anyone in the Plymouth area, and be sure to look out for Amber!!

It’s been a while since we had carvery here. Went here for Sunday carvery today, and feel they have definitely improved and upped their game! With lamb beef pork Gammon available and great selection of veg, and was so pleased all lovely and “hot” and tasty. Also catered for my dairy allergy and steamed veg was prepared separately. The two male carvers today (14th sept) were amazing! joking and laughing with customers and seemed to be happy at their work, so nice to be served by “happy” people! Will definitely return and so glad we gave it another try!

We just turned up with a party of 5 and were told there wasn't any room in the restaurant but we could sit in the bar area which was still very pleasant. The Chef was really good and we even had a bit of a laugh with him. I must give a special mention to Lauren who served us our drinks. She was very welcoming and friendly yet remaining professional. A pleasure to talk to and a credit to the company.

Thursday night quiz night, we come as often as possible when I'm not working. Sadly there are things that are noticeably going down hill. The bar staff seem unhappy, the food needs to be topped up quicker, nothing worse than having your meat carved then having to wait for veg top up. Thank goodness Caryn is cheerful and welcoming at front of house, and Ross is a great quiz master, just need to address the other issues

Nestled in the charming village of Liverton, The Star Inn is a delightful pub that embodies the essence of traditional British hospitality. With its inviting atmosphere and a menu brimming with seasonal classics, including hearty Sunday roasts, it’s an ideal spot for both locals and visitors alike. The extensive drink selection features local cask ales alongside popular favorites like Old Mout Berries & Cherries Cider.
What a great venue... Heidi and James were great hosts. The star is a very old country pub with a modern twist... Huge appeal inside full of charm and character... Modern outdoor seating areas with children's slide and lots of grass for them to play safely. New outside kitchen is being built which is sure to offer guests another array of tempting food items. A great venue and well worth a visit 😎

The Star is a 10 minute walk from where we are staying so perfect for a meal and drinks! All staff very efficient and friendly, meal arrived swiftly (was worried after some previous reviews, but no need) Only 4 stars for food as I was a bit disappointed with my vegetable lasagne, I would have liked to see more med veg for my money. It was tasty and hot so still enjoyed it as did my husband his chicken feast and good pint of Guinness. Would definitely come again and try something else if in the area.

I hadn't been here in years! To celebrate the sad death of my dad I decided The star would be a great place to try out. The menu is what I'd class as a proper pub menu. No fancy frills! The food was great, the staff were great, I'd highly recommend it. The special offer on the mains from Mon to Thur is a real bonus.

Lunch time visit. Lady serving behind bar was lovely. All staff we encountered were excellent Food was great value for money, and plenty enough. I've lived in the area for 30 years, and visited The Star on many occasions. This occasion was one of best ever! We travelled from.paignton, some 15 to 20 miles to visit specially! 5 stars! ***** Will definitely visit again! Thanks to all the lovely staff! 👍

This is the local of my village. The last time I went here was November 2023 and after I had the worst rump steak meal I'd ever had I vowed to never return. Well my son and I were due a long overdue catch up and headed up to the brilliant Woodland Cafe but it was closed when we arrived. So, making our way back home we passed by neighbours of ours who we chatted to about the cafe being closed and how we were wanting pizza. We both opted for dominoes until the neighbours said to try the Star Inn as they do pizzas. So, I thought seeing as it's under new ownership since my rump steak visit, why not give it another go. How I/we regret that decision. The pizzas are awful. The bases are clearly bought in and the cheese on both my sons pepperoni and my spicy beef was weird tasting. And on the subject of beef, there was the tiniest, smigen of mince beef on my pizza, like barely any. It was instead over loaded with cold chopped tomatoes and raw onions with a soggy base. It was more like a dodgy veggie pizza. I mean, at least put your toppings on a base and then cook those toppings into the base sauce, not throw them on as an after thought. I hate leaving food and so I ate it purely because I don't like waste but I don't feel great at all as I type this. The only positive I can type is the pint of IPA was decent. So I solemnly vow to never return to this pub again. The food, going by the pizzas is dire. Our other pub, The Welcome Stranger is better quality. The Woodland Cafe is leagues ahead of the Star in every way. And slightly further out, The Dartmoor Half Way Inn, is again, leagues ahead of the Star Inn. The Star maybe 2 minutes walk from my house but I'd rather the longer 15-20 minutes walk up to the Welcome Stranger for food and when in season, opt for the Woodland Cafe. The owner and chef there knows how to cook and his pizzas are home made from scratch, not cheap bought in bases! Following morning update: my stomach has not been good this morning and was very unsettled during the night. Note of advice to whoever does the cooking at the Star: pop along to the Woodland Cafe and get the owner to show you how a proper pizza is prepared and cooked. Homemade from scratch and at a price that is the same if not similar to what your establishment is charging!

Many thanks to James for allowing us to stay at his wonderful pub in our campervan. Great entertainment with a country and western theme. All the staff worked so hard for this night. Such genuine awe in this pub, character all over it. Had such a lovely time, we had good food and beers/ciders. We had a really quiet night in the car park. Would love to return here. Keep up the great work. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Visited this week and it was generally a nice pub with a good atmosphere. Had a meal and a few drinks. Didn't occur to me until after we left the pub that the onion rings that were part of the 'Chicken Feast' were missing. Perhaps they had run but would have been nice to have been offered something else.

Ate here last night after it being recommended. Food was lovely, plenty of meat in the pie and a great lasagne. Real ales are top notch and the 2 cocktail deal is really good value. Barstaff and owner were really friendly. Will certainly be back ourselves and are also booking a table for 2 weeks time when friends visit. Highly recommend.

Woodlands Family Theme Park in Devon is a top family attraction with a variety of rides, indoor and outdoor play areas, and a zoo/farm featuring meerkats and falconry displays. The park offers something for all ages, making it an ideal destination for families. Additionally, the Watermouth Family Theme Park and Castle in Ilfracombe provides a Victorian castle experience with nostalgic displays, rides, play areas, and beautifully landscaped gardens.
The woodlands has got family orientation in mind with the theme of the park. There is lots to do for the children. Multiple outdoor play areas located over the park, for both toddlers and big kids who are always on the go. There a big indoor soft play area that is 5 stores high! My daughter loved it. There are rides located around the park. If your looking for the latest & super fast rides, you need to got to Alton towers or somewhere like that. The farm area was cool, special as you could get close n feed some of them. Bird of prey section was interesting and amazing on how close you could get. Food here is limited and expensive but nice to eat and cooked, fresh to order. Overall, my family enjoyed going there and we did camp there awell. If you got a young family, give this place a try.

Fantastic day out for our 6yo and 9yo. So much to do although top hits were the 3 water rides and the sledge like rides! Adults enjoyed them too. Highly recommend the 7day pass if you're around for a while as good value if you go several times - great for wet days too with soft plays to go in. Staff were always helpful. My only criticism is no prices on the ice creams and we weren't told the amount when paying. We would definitely go back again..
Beth B — Google review
What a great day out for adults and children. Admission in advance was £17 and a few pence per person and once inside the park food and drink was also very reasonably priced. Selection was burgers, fries, hot dogs ,wraps etc. There was a small selection of farm animals to feed and observe and a large indoor play area for if the weather doesn't cooperate. There was a card available on our visit that if you collected 6 stamps from the rides availability, a return visit after the school summer holidays is only £25 for upto 8 people. Overall a great day out and we are returning in September.

Great little theme park set in beautiful woodland on the side of a hill, as per the norm for Devon! Out of season and nicely quiet, with the vast majority of attractions still open, including farmyard and falconry along with the rides. Overall great day for 11 year old birthday and his buddies.

Such a beautiful place. I know it's not perfect but you get so much value for your money. The food it's not the best, regular fried food but the prices are decent. They could do with more cleaning in the indoor areas but as mentioned above for the money paid I can't complain. We will visit again for sure, it's one experience which really worth doing it with the kids.

Great family park which is spread out with some good attractions. Massive soft play which alone is worth the visit. The raft slides had the longest queues but everything else was easy to get on to and do.
Alistair P — Google review
Tickets you could change to give you a weeks worth of entry. Enough to dp to keep kids entertained multiple times. Probably the biggest indoor play area i have ever seen and another indoor play area with air guns alot of fun. The slides were really good and got absolutely soaked multiple times. Toboggan only got chance to do once due to weather but was also fun. Would def go back again and also had a farm with a mixure of animals to look at also. Highly recommend.
Karl G — Google review
When we first went in we went to straight to soft play as it was raining .we arrived around 9:30 so everything would of been open right ? Wrong . We waited around 9:35 to get into soft play whats not bad but what is , is when kids in my family went to play they didn’t let them in because they “could not find the lights “ . Something they do everyday . So we waited ages then got told that the rides open at 10:00 am . So we waited ages but then they said we could go on the rides , we went on the drop tower in soft play as the main bit was not open yet . It did not open until about 10:20 . The play areas look abandoned at some points and the whole area looks like someone thrown loads of ideas but just mushed them around . The tractor ride definitely needs an update . It took ages to get on , although the staff member was the only one smiling. . My child’s idea what I think might be good but doesn’t make that much sense, if that the theme park got frozen in time and the animals are trying to get to the homes , but the pirates are trying to take over 😂.The place does definitely need an update . The water slides you definitely get VERY WET. We waited ages for some of them just to get soaked . The staff except for one were not very good and honestly made the experience not good . They weren’t smiling , did not talk and made one of my kids have to pay for a drink even know she just wanted a twix. There are a few outdoor drop slide what I personally think need an staff or atleast cctv. Because it is very dangerous if you did not read the instructions as it is under six , but I saw some 3 year going down it and getting a lot of friction burns . There was also a blue one in the ninja area what was very bad . Instead of sliding you just fall . You are supposed to have a mat but when someone did not care about the rule they did it perfectly fine . It was around an 8 foot drop and no staff in sight if someone got hurt . Overall , it was a quite good experience if you like slides , if not maybe not as much . In some place it definitely needs an upgrade and way better slides

River Dart Adventures is an exciting outdoor park situated within the River Dart Country Park near Ashburton, on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. The park offers a variety of activities for families and kids, including an assault course and a Pirate Ship. It is part of a large country estate that provides camping, touring, dormitory, and hotel accommodations in beautiful grounds with excellent facilities. The adventure playground caters to children up to 14 years old while also offering challenging activities for adults.
Would highly recommend for a day out. We had a fabulous day. All the staff were so fun and helpful. We especially appreciated Gracie's help on the high wires...and the lady who was inn charge of canoes was so fun too (didn't make a note of her name sadly). The extra activities were brilliant.. but the other section in the woods was so much fun. A huge adventure playground with lower wires,, rope swings, zip lines, fitness equipment. We will definitely be back!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Best Campsite Ever! We spent the weekend at Riverdart Country Park for Oktoberfest and honestly had the best time! The atmosphere was fantastic – great food made with locally sourced meat (from less than half a mile away!) and a lovely, friendly team who made everyone feel so welcome. The woodland play areas are a real highlight – perfectly maintained, full of adventure, and such a beautiful setting to sit back and watch your children play. Even the grown-ups couldn’t resist the zip lines! The camping pitches are huge, giving you loads of space to relax, and the shower facilities are spotless and well looked after. Everything about the park feels cared for and thoughtfully managed. We’d definitely recommend bringing wetsuits if you plan to get stuck into the Jolly Pirate ship or the jump pools.. Can’t wait to visit again – Riverdart Country Park really is the best campsite we’ve ever stayed at!

By far one of the best camping sites I've been on. The facilities are great with plenty of private rooms. The playgrounds, the outdoor water activities and the BMX track are amazing and mostly free. We did bouldering indoors too. It truly is incredible and we will be back again next year!

We went on a day trip for the high wires (for the parents and the children - min age 8) and the canoes (for the children, me and my 80 yr old Mom). Really enjoyed these lovely grounds and the two activities. Great instructors with a really positive attitude.

A country park geared to slightly older children with plenty of activities on the site. More than enough free activities included in your ticket along with the beach and water area. We went on a very wet day but none the less we got some nice hot pasties and a hot chocolates. Pay some extra and do the high ropes for example. Can’t wait to visit again.

What a fantastic place. First time visitors and the first thing that strikes you is friendly and helpful staff. The site is huge and so many different things for our grandchildren to have hours of endless fun. We had what I would say was one of the very best full English breakfasts ever.

Stunning day out in a wonderful woodland setting. Dozens of outdoor things to do for the kids and so much space to roam. Staff on hand to help when needed, all very cheerful. Plus a days entry gets you free reentry for a week! Amazingly good value. We would love to come and stay on site next time.

Reviewing from a camping perspective, large clean site, good toilet and shower facilities, and they kept on top of the cleaning etc. Loads to do for the kids, great little shop and a nice eatery on site. Plenty of activities included in the price, bike track was a winner and dog was happy with woodland and river walks :) Will happily recommend to friends!

Visitors staying at the cottages appreciated the cleanliness and thoughtful welcome pack of muffins, eggs, and milk.
A lovely family ran park with amazing panoramic views. We stayed in Beech Lodge and it was fantastic. The welcome gift of fresh eggs from the farm and home baked chocolate cupcakes was a lovely touch; it’s not often you get that these days! The lodge itself had everything you need for a comfortable stay, although could do with a bit of an internal refresh. All the staff encountered on site were friendly and welcoming and gave us that family ran feel. It was lovely to see the horses turned out and in every day too!! Thank you for a lovely stay! We’ll definitely be back!

Went here on holiday with the family and I couldn’t fault it enough, everything within short travelling distances. Definitely booking here again in the near future. Thanks Andy and Clare for a great holiday.

We stayed in Apple Blossom in Aug 2024 for 7 nights which was great and just what we expected. So this year we decided to book again and we stayed in Cherry lodge Aug 2025 for 7 nights which was excellent. The lodge is high spec with outstanding views. The site is very quiet and lovely and clean Andrew and Clare take great pride in keeping the site in good order and are very approachable and helpful. The field kitchen is still outstanding with great food at reasonable prices. The shop was well stocked and the swimming pool was lovely and warm. My son and I love the fishing which again is well looked after all fishing caught where in excellent condition the bailif that visits regularly to check on things is very nice and gives you tips and history of the fish. The pond is also otter fenced and gated to protect the fish from potential otters. Before we left I took advantage of the 5% discount and booked two lodges for Aug 2026 I thought I would treat my Son and his partner and grandchildren because I know they will love it. Thank you for a lovely holiday Rob & Julie

Stayed on a serviced pitch which was large and well layed out. Single facilities building with very good toilets and showers. Field kitchen serving food. The team were welcoming. The location is good as Torbay resorts, Dartmoor, and Dawlis are all within 30 mins. WiFi is available at 9.99 per week per device.

Stayed for 1 week in Ash Lodge, greeted with a stunning, huge, clean lodge, doggy treats, poo bags are a nice touch as was the delicious aunties chocolate cup cakes along with some milk, missed the eggs lol. An issue with the door handle was resolved immediately and without fuss, the working farm is spotless and very well looked after , the shop sells pretty much all you need . Didn't sample the field kitchen food but looks and smells amazing. Easy to drive to Torquay, Teignmouth, Newton Abbot and Dawlish along with Brixham , we did have hit and miss weather but that certainly didn't distract from the amazing week. Lovely deep bath and a huge walk in shower was ideal for my disabled step daughter, wrap around decking ensured the dog stayed safe and he loved watching the horses every night being moved around. Dishwasher , washer dryer and a great addition in the Weber Broiler out on the decking, thses lodges are very well spaced apart and the surrounding grounds are great to walk the dog. Absolutely no criticism at all, one thing I think could be added is the addition of some old towels for the dog and maybe a few throws incase of dirty paws, and I only say this as to keep the lodge as fresh and new looking . Loved it and will be back . WiFi was brilliant and the tv has the usual apps to log into

Becky Falls Ancient Woodland Park is a picturesque destination that has captivated visitors for over a century. Nestled within ancient oakwoods, the park offers enchanting walking paths, boulder scrambling, and serene picnic areas. Families can enjoy encounters with various animals at the petting zoo, including rabbits, guinea pigs, Shetland ponies, and goats. The indoor theatre showcases an array of creatures from tarantulas to rescued birds of prey.
The number 1 activity from my children's perspective, during our visit to Torbay. They loved the trails, they especially loved the waterfalls and the mini zoo is an extra (although I personally felt the macaw needed a friend, it looks very lonely). Dog loved it too, will definitely go back. I know I went as a child, so it's great to have a beautiful spot for generations to keep enjoying.

We visited during the half term school holidays. We arrived at around 11:30am and was on site for around 3 1/2 hours. On arrival you can pay at the gate or can pre book online. Children under 4 go free. There is a short walk to the main entrance where you are welcomed by a picknick area which has a small cafe and girt shop. There is a selection of ice-cream, ice lollies, drinks, chips. There is small selection of animals you can feed such as goats and meerkat. Please be aware that you need to book and pay extra for the meet the keeper meerkat feeding experience. There is also a small building that has snake's, stick insects, cockroaches and a tarantula. There are 3 different trials to walk. The blue one is quick and easy to navigate through the woodlands. However, the red and purple trails are quite steep with different types of terrain. This is not suitable for any type of pushchair or wheelchairs. The ground can be wet and muddy, so decent footwear is advised. If you want to walk all three trails, you will need between 2-3 hours depending on your speed and skill. You can borrow a baby carrier if you require which is free of charge. The cafe and bench area did become quite busy at around 1pm. Overall, the visit was quite nice with very nice views of the water fall and stream that runs down.

Nice trial with animals in beginning. Nice for kids. You 3 options of trial.10mins, 30mins or 45mins. Anyone can go don't need extra shoes. In entrance you need to pay per adult 13.50 including car park.
Hossangui — Google review
Absolute little gem this one. They have 3 routes to walk around. Blue which is rather easy and for the kids. Then red and purple which show you the water falls. You need good grippy shoes on. We did all routes. And the people route is the hardest but you get some awesome views. Be prepared to have to scramble up some rocky surfaces so you need a bit of fitness for this. You are at times climbing up steep rocky areas but it is so much fun. Red Route a little easier but still some climbs to do. Then you have a great cafe and also animals to look around. Really really fun.
Rob H — Google review
One of the most amazing places to go in England, it is totally untouched beauty. Different trails to follow, nice coffee shop, easy to park. You can easily spend a day in there. I went middle of August and the weather was lovely.
Alexander R — Google review
An absolute beauty! I can strongly recommend it! We walked the basic route first, but our 12yr old daughter and myself were itching to climb some rocks and the waterfall, so took part of the red route too. Was so worth it. I do recommend outdoor trainers though! (I didn't have one as was last minute idea). Nice animals (meercats, macaw, goats, bunnies, chickens, skunk, owl) to see too and kids can feed them (need to purchase voucher). Food, ice cream, drinks in the caffee. The weather was a mix, but plenty of shades too on a sunny day if required. The woodland and the rocks are so tranquil and gives so much joy to young ones and older ones. If you are a bit more fragile, there is a route for that too. It's a must place to visit. 🤗
Katalin H — Google review
Visited not realising it was a pay for attraction, for the walk only I wouldn’t say its worth the entry fee but if you are a family the small zoo, shop and cafe and other activities probably make it worth the entry fee. The walk is good and the falls are interesting. The purple route is tough so take their advice and only do if fit and mobile.

This casual pub offers cozy accommodations and convenient boat moorings, making it an ideal spot for both relaxation and adventure. Guests can indulge in delightful dishes like wild sea bass paired with Jerusalem artichoke or savor game stew complemented by crispy kale.
We came here last night for a meal with friends and wow the food was incredible! We had small plates, starters and mains and everything was truly delicious! Service was great and very attentive and friendly. Location is stunning by the water and the ambiance is great. Highly recommend and we will be back!

We've been going to the Master's Arms for a few years now and recently visited for Sunday Lunch. The pub's location is unique and it is still a really nice place to visit. The prices have risen considerably in recent months and the website menu didn't reflect the prices on the day. If you are charging £28 for a main it should be very high quality. The beef and the pork were both excellent but the accompanying vegetables were poor. You don't want to be pedantic but 4 roast potatoes between 3 people seems a little meagre. Most of the vegetables were undercooked and not worth the price. There is a service charge automatically added (I know this is fairly standard) but the service was below average with gravy coming quite some time after the mains and we had to ask three times for the bill. Again this could sound fussy but if you're paying a premium the service should be on point. I would go back for a drink but not for food.

Probably the most beautiful setting for a pub ever. The view is divine and you can sit outside right by the water. The food is upmarket, far more sophisticated than your average pub. And the food is outstanding. The Spider Crab 🦀 croquettes were soooooo good!
Saskia L — Google review
Beautiful location. Welcoming friendly staff. The only thing that let it down was that the roast, is quite small for the price and only comes with a small veg plate to share between 2. The roast itself was delicious but yeah not overall filling

We had the absolute best time at The Maltsters Arms. The food was incredible – the lamb was beautifully tender and full of flavour, and the mussels were simply divine. To finish, the pecan and maple pudding was to die for! What truly made the evening so special was the team. From the moment we walked in, everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Our lovely waitress Annie took such great care of us, and Andy, the general manager, checked in on us throughout the night to make sure everything was perfect. Their kindness and attention to detail made us feel so at home. The atmosphere was wonderful, and you can really tell how happy and passionate the team are about what they do. It was a 10/10 experience from start to finish – we’ll definitely be back and can’t thank The Maltsters enough for such a memorable evening!

We have been coming here for quite a few years and used to love the Sunday lunch. This year, when we visited in August, we found that the pub had changed hands. The prices of the Sunday lunch have increased ALOT. We wanted to give it a go but we were left very disappointed. The meals certainly were not worth what we paid and were not a patch on what they were before. I ordered a roasted vegetable dish which was the only vegetarian option, and the portion size was tiny. Whilst it was tasty, I was left really hungry. My husband and two sons had the adults roast. Whilst the meat was cooked brilliantly, the gravy came late, the vegetables were hard and they were given 4 roast potatoes between them. They used to leave feeling fully, but again the portion size was poor. No apple sauce came with the roast pork like it used to either. If you are going to charge these prices, the portion size really needs looking at. It's really sad as we loved it here but certainly won't be coming here for food again unless the prices reflect quality food and service. We would however come for a drink. Such a shame as we loved it here.

The staff are great, the pub is lovely, but the food was different than the online menu which was a bit annoying, we still liked the food they served, the road down isn't great, the views are great, dogs are allowed, the prices are ok, they add 10% to your bill for the staff which is ok as I always add 10% anyway. They had lots of staff so you're served fast, the food portion size was good, I would definitely come again. Thank you.
Account T — Google review
We were a walk-in for an evening meal. The pub wasn't particularly busy but it took an hour from our arrival to our main course arriving. Two tables that arrived after us were served well before us (one with food before we had ordered) and my beer order disappeared for 20 minutes. Once the food arrived it was excellent, just a *very* slow start. Didn't order dessert as we had a 40min walk back and didn't want to risk another long wait for food and a walk in the dark...

Day 4

Off the beaten path
For day 4, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Canonteign Falls. Not quite as popular as Dartmoor National Park, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 7 hours.

Waterfalls
Canonteign Falls, nestled in the heart of Devon's Teign Valley within Dartmoor National Park, is a hidden gem boasting both natural and man-made waterfalls. The falls cascade down ancient rock formations into tranquil lakes, creating a spectacular woodland scenery. This Victorian folly is surrounded by private parkland and features a magical fern garden with ancient tree ferns and a unique 11 ft Willow dinosaur.
If you're in the area, this is an absolute must-visit. The attraction is reasonably priced, very well maintained, and packed with fascinating historical facts along a thoughtfully designed one-way route. The walk takes about an hour and involves a fair number of steps and inclines, so it may not be ideal for those with limited mobility. However, for those who can manage it, the journey is incredibly rewarding. There are engaging features along the way, especially for children, making it a fun and educational outing for families. Before you begin, take a moment to relax by the café — the pond views are peaceful and scenic, and if you're lucky, you might even spot some baby ducks! The real highlight, though, is reaching the top, where the views of the waterfalls are simply breathtaking. Photos just can’t capture the scale and beauty of it. I would recommend booking in advance during the busier seasons to guarantee entry. Overall, a wonderfully curated adventure that combines nature, history, and thoughtful design. Highly recommended!

What a wonderful, varied and unexpected treat. This place has something for everyone. The climb up to the top of the falls is quite challenging for older slower limbs but I managed it fine. The view is spectacular. Then, after a good lunch break, we visited the Lower Lakes with artwork, poetry,m a henge and more. Beautiful. Well worth your time.
Nick E — Google review
Lovely to visit especially in the autum. Steep prices and to pay a pound for a map was cheeky. Restaurant also expensive. I do understand that they are an isolated location and have a large maintenance bill however. Would recommend but not for elderly people who cannot walk far if they want to see the waterfalls.
Chris J — Google review
We visited on Monday & what a wonderful experience. Fabulous staff, such a pretty, well cared for environment with beautiful views. lots of shaded woodland, cool ferns & the sound of thundering water, perfect for this scorching weather. The walk is not for cissies! We were so pleased with ourselves for reaching the top 🥳 (66yrs of age) but so worth the effort. We felt we earned our delicious Devon cream tea. I had the savoury, cheese scone - hot from the oven, with cream cheese and an onion marmalade with proper loose leaf tea in a innovative little teapot. My husband had the traditional with jam and cream, equally delicious. Then we strolled round the lovely gift shop before making our way home. Highly recommended. We used a Virgin Experience voucher given to us by our family. Next time, we'll go for the afternoon tea option with sarnies etc, they also do a doggy afternoon tea!! 😀 Amazing place....
Caroline P — Google review
What a lovely day to end our last day for a week down here. Fabulous walk up and around the waterfall. Make sure you have good walking footwear 'durable' not accessible by wheelchair or buggy, but some lovely views. Well posted with signs, entertainment for little ones, keep them entertained as well.
Lille C — Google review
Amazing Great experience, Well kept and beautiful walk / hike to the waterfalls. Some steep climbs up pathways and steps Everything clearly displayed and sign posted Lots of rest points if needed. The lower lakes and grounds also worth walking around Lovely cafe for drinks and food Gift shop on way out Toilets located only on lower ground at entrance/exit near to Cafe Great value Would recommend
Victoria G — Google review
Dog Friendly! Lovely staff. Really nice cafe with great choices. Cream tea experience too. Walk is great with lots to see and read along the way up to the falls. Great for kids, once you walk back down you go through a big play park too.
Phoebe H — Google review
Such a wonderful place to spend a day. I visited with my family (ages ranging from 80 - 5), and we all managed and enjoyed the fantastic hike up to the top of the falls. It was probably more challenging than we expected but thoroughly worth the effort. Lots of cute and imaginative things and natural wonders to entertain the children on the walk, and a beautiful view at the top. The staff in the shop and cafe were so friendly and the food was tasty. We went during Oct half term and did the pumpkin trail. There were families walking alpacas during our visit and we got to stroke them and chat to the owners. Highly recommend this gem for all ages.

Swimming serves as an excellent overall workout while also providing enjoyable leisure time. The park boasts fantastic amenities, including a well-equipped gym that can be easily reserved.
Lovely place to get away. Everywhere is really clean and tidy. Very quiet at night. Fun pool and slides. We had a lovely few days away with the children and then just adults. Will definitely stay there again. Everything is extremely overwhelming priced and very little to purchase in the shop so I advise taking your own food and drinks with you.

Spent a week here for May half term. Had accomodation with hot tub. My husband and I and our two young kids were all very pleased with the accomodation. The swimming pool on site is brilliant and has a fabulous small kids splash zone by the main pool. The main pool is majority very shallow which again is great for young children. Less stress for the parents. Two great flumes for adults and bigger kids and an outdoor pool. I'd have liked to have more on site free entertainment or even, a few more paid activities young kids can do. Activities available are mostly great for age 8 plus. Site is very quiet, no evening entertainment like you get other places. Check in and out is easy! You open your accomodation door with an app you download on your phone. No keys to collect or drop off from reception.

A fantastic family holiday in this splendid location. Amenities on site are very adequate. We had a luxury lodge with a private hot tub. The dogs loved exploring the site and were very welcome. Would definitely recommend and we will be returning
Charmaine H — Google review
Great place for a relaxing holiday. Pool is great for the kids, nice walks, and plenty of activities for all to enjoy. Accommodation is fantastic with plenty of room for the family. Only downside is the bars close early around 9-10 o'clock, and the food is limited.
Ian D — Google review
A lovely pool setting. Great for kids. The outside pool is good too, however changing facilities for the outside pool needs to be improved. Spa staff, seem not as friendly, it kind of distracts from the family feel with their stance and behaviour - hence why it's not a full 5 star review. Other than that, the pool is a great facility for families and alike.

Just stayed at an Eco Pod . Stunning location, has the feel of being in a tree house as the pod is set high up on a bank. The pod was great , though not perfect. Broken curtains, Bluetooth speaker and microwave oven, no dishwasher as advertised. Other than that it is Fantastic for a short break. Hot tub was lovely and warm. Will definitely go again
L T — Google review
Lovely pool for fun on an overcast day. Open to everyone subject to demand on busy days so best to book. Set in lovely area for log cabins and holiday accommodation. Easy access of main dual carriageway but traffic lost in the holiday village of finlake.
Richard D — Google review
Absolutely beautiful place. We stayed in a lodge with a hot tub which was nice at the end of the day to relax in. The pool was great for the children and easy lockers to lock everything in. We ate in the restaurant on the Saturday evening and service and food was lovely. The walks around the lake is nice and if you follow off some of the paths you get to a little pixie woodland which is fun for the children to see all the fairies and wildlife. My only downside would of been the fact our lodge must be a dog friendly lodge which I did not see when we booked this. You could smell dog on the rug and lots of hair which is very unpleasant. But apart from that very clean and tidy. Would definitely come again.

Chudleigh Parish Church (St Martin & St Mary) is a beautiful and historic church in Chudleigh. The church is known for its warm and welcoming congregation, offering various services to suit everyone. It is wheelchair accessible and has friendly and helpful people who make visitors feel at home. Despite the possibility of it being drafty, the congregation's warmth makes up for it as they stay behind to chat after worship.

Finlake Resort and Spa is a peaceful getaway nestled in the stunning countryside of Devon. This affordable holiday park offers log cabins with a restaurant, two pools, and a spa & gym. With its vast 130-acre surroundings, there are endless activities to enjoy such as a waterpark, outdoor heated pool, tennis courts, archery, horse riding, fishing lakes, and more. The resort also boasts on-site amenities including a sauna and steam room.
Just returned from a little honeymoon getaway purchased from my employer. I was in the a frame 29, Was very peaceful, rooms were good clean and had cooking utensils there, it's more than you'd expect for a log cabin type accommodation, with having a sauna and hot tub both maintained to a good standard in the accommodation, Local store onsite which is relatively priced, restaurant on site it's ediblebut not something to call home about, with that said my wife is a head chef so I maybe to judgemental here, Good choice of beers at bar, swimming pool is nice and warm with 2 slides (yes as a 34year old bloke who's not on the slender side had much fun on this) Also had one of the best deep tissue massages I've had in a long time. 30 mins drive from the Paignton zoo, harbour around same distance, Overall it was a great getaway only parts that let it down for me was I live too far away (Matlock) and the wife's choice of audio as she was the DJ for 5 hours each way Other than that Perfect, thank you

We had a really enjoyable stay at Finlake Holiday Park & Spa. The location is beautiful, surrounded by nature with plenty of space to relax and explore. The lodges were clean, well-equipped, and comfortable, making it easy to settle in. The spa and leisure facilities were a highlight – especially the pool and treatment options – perfect for unwinding. The resort offers lots of activities for families, from outdoor adventures to relaxing walks, so there’s something for everyone. Staff were friendly and helpful whenever we needed assistance. The only small downside was that at times some areas felt quite busy, and booking certain activities required planning in advance. However, overall, it was a wonderful experience and we would happily return.

Have stayed in two static homes /lodges now. Both clean and tidy and well care for. Staff that you see are friendly and helpful. If you book through Hoseason to stay here then swimming is free but the spa and gym you have to pay for. This is definitely a place to come and unwind . Peaceful and quiet.

Really well appointed Lodge with everything you need for a really comfortable stay. Very spacious & handy having the ensuite as well as the family bathroom. Hot tub was amazing!
Martin A — Google review
Very nice place, accommodation and hot tubs excellent. Would be helpful if the following were provided; Tea towel, a dishwasher tab to start off, extra bin bag etc. Don't use the shop unless you have to, extortionate pricing. Very steep hills, those with mobility issues may well struggle.
John C — Google review
We had such a lovely week here , we stayed in the woodland lodges , very peaceful , very nice lodge , with our own sauna and the hot tub was nice too. Rooms were nice and bed was comfy , the living room , dining room and kitchen was really spacious. The balconies were nice too especially the bigger one , where there is two lots of seating and the hot-tub is there too tucked away. We used the local shop , which was located in the resort and we used The Hub which was good for breakfast. We didn’t go to the restaurant The retreat as we thought it was expensive and too pricy for us . we thought the surroundings were lovely , we went for a lovely walk in a woodland area which was located in the resort , that was very nice and peaceful . The place really good location and was easy to get to places. Would highly recommended and would definitely come again in the future.
Danielle N — Google review
Beautiful location for a holiday for the outdoor types, no night life unless you drink, nothing for kids to do in evenings as in entertainment. Lots of activities during the daytime for kids at a cost, the lovely static caravan we stayed in on lakeside was wonderful and you can fish there too which my son loved, my only gripe was the level of professional service at reception at the swimming pool lack of friendliness very cold, rather talk to each other, and they are wearing way to much makeup so much so, they have it stacked up by there computers, they look down to there customers and they are not very welcoming. @Mark the manager you really need to address this to retain returning customers.
Gareth L — Google review
We are staying at a sister site. Visited to book activity and look around. So we can't rate the rooms. The restaurant serves meals, but we wanted a light bite. So we didn't eat there. We then the Hub, they do light views and jackets, chilli.. the price were cheaper at the hub. They do cater for me as gluten and milk intolerant..I had gluten free fish and chips with tartar sauce.. hubby had scampi and chips.. we both agreed our food was lovely. Staff at the Hub were brilliant helpful and friendly. We will go there again. Woodland walk was pleasant and there are a couple of lakes down the bottom. It was very pleasant. The have various activities, but in June it is not every day of the week, so we didn't manage to match up with a free slot. We would go back to the hub again to eat.

The Phoenix in Chudleigh is fantastic! Wonderful welcome when we first entered the Pub, a huge thank you to the lovely Emma & Tracy. They are both very friendly and offer excellent customer service. We arrived at 7.55pm the kitchen finished at 8pm, however the chef was very happy to cook fish and chips, mushy peas, curry sauce & tartare sauce for 5 people. Beautiful decor, this is gastro pub quality dining in beautiful surroundings. Food is excellent absolutely delicious. Birthday meal with my family. We will return as staying 7 nights in Chudleigh on holiday. Highly recommended.

We stayed at the Finlake Holliday home and decided to have dinner the Phoenix as it had good reviews I must admit that I wasn’t a big fan of the place, the service wasn’t very attentive and the food was quite average My steak burger was quite dull and lacked any reach flavours and my daughter didn’t enjoy her spaghetti bolognaise and left most of it on the plate It’s a shame because the place has such a nice vibe to it, taking the food up a notch could make it some much better
