Fussen in 5 days

If you only have 5 days to spend in Fussen, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Füssen is a picturesque Bavarian town at the edge of the Alps, known as the gateway to Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles. Its medieval old town features pastel-colored buildings, cobbled lanes, and the hilltop High Castle with notable late-Gothic art. The nearby Forggensee and surrounding mountains offer opportunities for hiking, cycling, and water sports amid scenic landscapes. With traditional Bavarian eateries and easy rail connections from Munich, Füssen works well as both a day trip and a relaxed base for exploring the region.
With favorites like Museum of Fuessen, Bella Pizza Delivery Service, and Benediktinerkloster St. Mang, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like s' Wirtshaus im Weinbauer and Eiscafe Hohes Schloß so you can get the best taste of Fussen while you’re here. Neuschwanstein Castle, a 19th-century hilltop fortress commissioned by King Ludwig II, is a must-see attraction nestled in the Bavarian Alps near the Austrian border. It's one of Germany's most visited sites and offers tours of its lavishly furnished rooms. While it's a popular tourist spot, some travelers recommend exploring other day trips from Munich for a more rewarding experience.
🇩🇪 A Must-Visit in Germany: Neuschwanstein Castle If you’re planning a trip to Germany, Neuschwanstein Castle is an absolute must-see. Perched on a hill in Bavaria, it looks like something straight out of a fairytale — and it’s no wonder it inspired Disney’s Sleeping Beauty castle! There are two main options to reach the castle from the ticket center: 🚌 By shuttle bus 🐎 By horse-drawn carriage For the return journey, you can use the same options or do what we did — walk back down. It’s about a 15–20 minute walk, and totally worth it for the scenic route and peaceful forest atmosphere. One of the highlights of our visit was Marienbrücke (Mary’s Bridge). From here, you get a stunning panoramic view of the entire castle — definitely postcard-perfect! We chose not to go inside the castle and instead spent our time enjoying the breathtaking views and the fairytale ambiance from the outside. It was still a truly magical experience. 🛍️ There’s a souvenir shop on site with some nice mementos. ☕ Unfortunately, the café was closed during our visit. 🚗 Parking is available, though a bit pricey if you’re only staying for a short time. Overall: A memorable and highly recommended experience!

The castle location is so beautiful. It is a treat for the sight just to hike towards the castle that is surrounded by bavarian alps. The guided tour, on the other hand is rather short (only 30min). The rooms are accessible only by lots of stairs and no photography is allowed. Only 14 castle rooms were furnished. Furthermore during our visit the cafe was also closed. This was a bummer since the ticket is so expensive for 23euros per person. Furthermore even though young kids are allowed inside the castle for free they need their own ticket and it can't be booked online. The ticket we got got our toddler from the information booth did not have a scan code and my daughter could not get inside so i had to run to fund security to let her inside. The security guide solved the issue quickly though. The point is that the ticket handling system must be more organized and improved upon. On the other hand, the cave room, singers room and the balcony were breath taking so the hassle was kind of worth it. The ticket price should be reduced though. I would say overall it was a very pleasant experience.

A real-life Disney castle — but truly so much more than that! ✨ I still couldn’t get enough of this place. Every corner feels like stepping into a fairytale. The guided tour is a must — make sure to book it early, as tickets sell out fast. No photos are allowed inside, but it’s absolutely worth it. Each room reflects incredible richness, elegance, and the artistic soul of King Ludwig II — his passion for theatre, music, and beauty shines through every detail. It’s about a 20-minute walk uphill from the ticket area, but they also offer bus services (check the timings!) and horse-drawn carriage rides for a more scenic way up. The path is a bit steep, but once you reach the top, the view and the castle itself make every step worth it. King Ludwig II was truly a dreamer — and walking through his creation feels like walking inside his imagination. Go see it — it’s magical, surreal, and simply unforgettable. 🌄💙

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ 4.5-Star Review – Neuschwanstein Castle Parking at Platz 4 is very spacious and costs €12 for 6 hours, conveniently located right next to where you catch the bus up to the castle. The bus fare is €5 per adult round trip, and it’s a smooth ride with beautiful scenery along the way. At the top, the area is clear and open, perfect for walking or biking with stunning views all around. The trails are beautiful, offering several photo spots and breathtaking panoramas of the castle and the valley below. There’s also a small snack and souvenir shop at the top with plenty of space and clean bathrooms, making it an easy and comfortable stop before or after exploring. Overall, Neuschwanstein Castle is a magical experience — well worth the visit and the walk. The scenery alone makes it unforgettable!

Absolutely stunning castle that lives up to all the hype! The fairy-tale architecture is breathtaking, and the location in the Bavarian Alps provides incredible views. The interior tour was fascinating and gave great insight into King Ludwig II's vision. The walk up to the castle is a bit steep, but totally worth it. A must-see if you're in Bavaria!

We only saw the castle from outside. It was breathtaking 😍 I have never seen such a beautiful castle before in europe, it's just unique. Autumn vibe made it even more beautiful. You can reach the castle with bus from parking 4. It cost only 5 euro per person. You can even walk up to the castle take aprox. 30-40 mins. Walk down hill took us 20 min.
Ire K — Google review
Wonderful and magic place. A must to see, when in this region. No problems with parking, can tak bus from it, to the castle. It's nice, 20 minute walk down. Well-organized sightseeing, but you need to be super punctual. I was with my 70 yo parents and the didn't have any problems walking around, some paths are steep though. The castlebis simply stunning, do not miss the bridge next to it. Can't take photos inside. Have some well made souvenirs inside (3 shops on your way to the exit).
Marta K — Google review
Absolutely breathtaking and immersive. The hike up is beautiful and you can take your time just enjoying the scenery. Plenty of photo opportunities outside of the castle, but no pictures inside until you get to the cafe.

Mountain cable car
Hiking area
The Tegelberg Cable Car is a modern and well-serviced cable car that takes visitors to the top of Tegelberg Mountain, reaching a height of 1,730 meters. The ride offers stunning views of Neuschwanstein Castle and the Ammer Mountains and takes approximately 10 minutes. Each cabin can accommodate up to 44 people, but due to COVID-19 measures, they are not filled to maximum capacity in order to ensure social distancing.
The trip and the entire excursion are absolutely worthwhile. Trains run regularly up and down the mountain, and once at the top, you can either take a scenic loop or hike back down along various routes, all while enjoying views of the castle. On clear days, you can also watch impressive hang gliding and paragliding jumps from above.

Very Nice trip. Did ascend and walk down. Not to much km to walk on the top, but the walk down it self is really nice and special with the nice views on the disney castle itself. It was actually my favored walking trip I ever did. Really recommend this commercial trip above other Mountains.
Siemworks — Google review
A fun cable car up to the top with about 30 others. The process is smooth, from purchasing the ticket to boarding and disembarking. The employees are jovial, making the whole experience a joy. We hiked around the top section of the mountain and ate lunch before heading down on the Bahn again. The views of two castles are great from the Bahn: Hohenschwangau and especially the Neuschwanstein as it’s closer. Go early as it gets very busy!

Fabulous way to spend the day! Taking the cable car up was smooth and easy (even with little kids in tow) There are some restaurants at the top with soup , beer and apple danish. The views are spectacular. And there are tons of trails back into the mountains for hiking. We also went on the toboggan slide (at the base- by the parking lot) My kids LOVED it. And the a lovely playground. Highly recommend visiting.
S. W — Google review
Breathtaking. Caught the bus from neuschwanstein castle. While the castle was rammed with people, we had the cable car to ourselves and also pretty much the whole mountain. We had the luck of a snowy winter wonderland. This was an awesome experience and totally took our breath away. If you're visiting the castle, you have to get the cable car up to the top of the mountain.

Hohenschwangau Castle, a stunning Gothic-style summer residence of King Ludwig II, is located near the Pollat Gorge. The castle is being rebuilt in the authentic style of old German knights' castles and will feature habitable guest rooms with splendid views of the Sauling and the Tyrolean mountains. Nestled in a breathtaking landscape alongside Neuschwanstein, Hohenschwangau offers insight into the royal upbringing of King Ludwig II.
The castle is truly beautiful, offering picturesque views from a distance that allow you to capture its full grandeur. I recommend purchasing tickets online to save time. While photography is not permitted inside the castle, I believe the tour could be enhanced with more detailed information and exhibits about its history. In my opinion, the exterior of the castle is even more captivating than the interior tour. Overall, it was a good place to visit.
Hiwi — Google review
Definitely a must see castle. The grounds and the views are amazing. Unfortunately you cannot take photos of the interior. But nonetheless the interior doesn't disappoint either. I recommend that you get your ticket and tour time set up online. It definitely makes things easier. There are a few restaurants around the castle that have great food. Plus souvenir shoppes too.

Just a short 30-minute walk from the world-famous Neuschwanstein lies Schloss Hohenschwangau, and we can genuinely recommend adding it to your visit. While Neuschwanstein often gets most of the attention, Hohenschwangau has a charm and authenticity all of its own. Set against rolling hills, peaceful forests, and a beautiful lake, the castle feels more intimate and lived-in, offering a fascinating contrast to King Ludwig II’s fairytale creation. Tickets can be bought in advance—something we recommend, especially during busier months—and guided tours are offered in several languages. The tour provides wonderful insight into the history of the Bavarian royal family and the important role this castle played in Ludwig’s childhood. Many rooms remain furnished just as they were, which makes the visit feel historically rich and surprisingly personal. Even if you decide not to join a tour, the area around Schloss Hohenschwangau is perfect for a leisurely stroll. The paths are easy to navigate, and the views of the lake and surrounding mountains are incredibly beautiful. It’s a calm and charming place to unwind, especially after the more intense and crowded experience of Neuschwanstein. Overall, we found Schloss Hohenschwangau to be a beautiful and worthwhile addition to the day—less crowded, full of history, and surrounded by stunning scenery. If you’re already in the area, it’s absolutely worth visiting both castles to get the full experience of this remarkable region.

Nice hike up, but not too difficult. The audio guide was really informative and the castle was beautiful. Such a great place to visit!
Markie K — Google review
I visited a lot of Ludwig’s castles and this one isn’t the most spectacular per se but it is a must see specially if you’re interested in his history. This is where he grew up and where his parents lived. The castle has a lot of history that you can learn during your visit. The visit is made with a guide but you have an audio guide in your own language during the tour. It is activated in each room by the guide and lasts a few minutes. Our tour guide was young lady with dark hair. I don’t remember her name but she was one of the best guides I’ve encountered in a museum. She was lovely, smiling, added additional informations during our visit and was gentle. We had a great time visiting the castle thanks to her. You can also visit the gardens for free if you want but you have to book a ticket to see the inside. Also up here you get a nice view over the Neuschwanstein.

Overall, visiting Hohenschwangau Castle is one of the must do things for any tourist in the area. Personally my visit was both meaningful and enjoyable. The scenery was beautiful, the history fascinating and the atmosphere peaceful. It offered a valuable look into the roots of Ludwig II’s life and imagination, making it a visit worth remembering. On a side note, it’s recommended to book in advance, park your car in parking number 4 and keep in mind that only guided tours are offered inside as well as that picture and videos aren’t allowed.
A. K — Google review
Even tough it's not probably as nice as Neuschwanstein I really enjoyed being inside and especially a look through the window at the end of the tour. Around the castle there are food stands where you can enjoy a hot chilly and some sausage with drinks.
Pavle R — Google review
Worth visiting after checking out Nauschwanstein! While not as ornate and opulent, there was certainly a lot of time spent in its design and a ton of history in its use and purpose. The English tour was very insightful and informative! Get there ahead of time for your tour - just be ready to sit in the sun for a while if you're too early!

Marienbrücke

Bridge
Marienbrücke, also known as the Pollat bridge, is a pedestrian bridge that offers breathtaking views of Neuschwanstein Castle. Named after Queen Marie, it spans the Pollat gorge and was originally constructed in 1845 by King Maximillian II. The wooden footbridge was later replaced with an iron structure by King Ludwig II in 1866.
...later, around 7 PM, we found ourselves on that bridge. The crowds had thinned out, and the evening light cast a warm golden glow over the castle’s silhouette. The air was calm, with a gentle breeze rustling through the trees, and the whole place felt serene and almost magical. It was one of the best views of the castle — peaceful, majestic, and unforgettable.
Aliaksei A — Google review
A breathtaking view, you will walk over an old wooden bridge, very high and the floor looks unstable, you have to take care anyway, a little crowded and you have choose the right moment to take a photo with the castle. The view is so amazing that it looks unreal.
Shadi S — Google review
After visiting Schloss Neuschwanstein, we continued our walk to the famous Marienbrücke, a viewpoint that absolutely lives up to its reputation. The bridge is about a 15-minute walk from the castle, and although the path can be a bit steep and uneven in places, the payoff at the end is nothing short of breathtaking. As soon as you step onto the bridge, the view opens up dramatically: Neuschwanstein perched on its rugged cliff, framed by forested hills and soaring Alpine peaks. From this angle, the castle looks even more magical than up close—almost like it’s floating above the landscape. The drop beneath the bridge is impressive and might feel a bit dizzying if you’re afraid of heights, but it’s completely safe and well maintained. Depending on the time of day, it can get quite busy, so we’d recommend patience if you want the perfect photo. People naturally linger because the scenery is so captivating. The sound of the waterfall below, the fresh mountain air, and the sweeping panorama make it a place where you can easily spend more time than planned. It’s one of those rare spots where you truly understand why King Ludwig chose this location for his dream castle. If you’re visiting Neuschwanstein, make sure not to skip Marienbrücke. It’s the viewpoint that gives you the iconic picture—one that captures the full grandeur of the castle and the surrounding landscape. The short walk is entirely worth the effort for one of the most spectacular views in the region.
Cheyenne B — Google review
Mary's bridge.....what can you say but iconic, bavarian, crowded, tight, beautiful, one way on and one way off? Worth the effort it takes to get there. Sort of a let down when you see the Queue after you walk there. Part of the entire experience. Do it!
T C — Google review
The hike up to the Marienbrücke (Queen Mary's Bridge) is an absolute must-do for anyone visiting Neuschwanstein Castle. This cantilevered bridge, suspended dramatically over the Pöllat Gorge, offers the one truly iconic, postcard-perfect view of the castle. The sight is genuinely breathtaking: Neuschwanstein is framed perfectly by the towering forested mountains, looking like an improbable fairytale creation carved into the cliffside. The sheer height of the gorge below adds a visceral thrill to the visual splendor. However, be prepared for company. The day I visited, the bridge was incredibly crowded. It requires patience and cooperation to navigate the narrow structure and secure a spot for a decent photograph, especially when trying to move past groups. Adding to the intensity is the bridge itself. While the main metal structure appears strong and stable, giving confidence in its engineering, the experience is slightly unnerving due to the flooring. The wooden planks connecting the spans make a persistent squeaking noise with every footstep and shift in the crowd's weight. This constant creaking sound, combined with the height, made the experience feel a little uncomfortable and a bit scary. In summary, the view of Neuschwanstein from the Marienbrücke is worth every crowded, squeaky step. It’s a sensory experience where awe battles nervousness, leaving you with a lasting, slightly thrilling memory.
Girish V — Google review
View from Marienbrücke is spectacular. Castle looks beautiful from this angle. I would recommend visiting in sunny day and if possible during fall season. Kindly check opening hours before visiting
Harish G — Google review
Be sure to take the short but steep walk to the bridge after seeing Neuschwanstein Castle. The views from this bridge are unbelievable. 360° views. Waterfalls, river, the castle and the village. There will most likely be a short wait as the bridge only holds so many people. If you walk all the way to the end of the bridge you can continue to hike up the mountain. I didn't but I would have liked to if we had more time.
Debbie M — Google review

s' Wirtshaus im Weinbauer is a country-style tavern located in Chuangao that offers a delightful dining experience with its rustic ambiance and traditional German cuisine. The restaurant boasts vaulted ceilings, wooden furnishings, and a charming red brick stove that creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. Their menu features Bavarian delicacies like schnitzel, venison, dumplings, sausages, and roast beef stew.
Enjoyed all the food there but the ox cheek dish was especially good. Very cozy. I found the prices to be comparable with other restaurants in the area. Our server was quick and on point.

Good things: -Good quality food -good not too big portions -beautiful interiors and wonderful facade of the building, typical Bavarian style -authentic clothing worn by the waiters -very cosy -fair price -perfect location at the center of the small town -Has a restaurant and a hotel, perfect stay for the traveller -Menus in several languages So so things: -prices a bit over the average -couldn't see an outside seating, pity since in the summer people love sitting outside and enjoying the fresh air -it felt a bit like this place is the touristic place everyone goes to. Conclusion: I recommend it for sure, you'll love it. We didn't eat much but we ended paying an easy 50 euros. If you're okay with that, go and relax in this beautiful place.

Very traditional Bavarian eatery. The interior is amazing, especially the painted low ceilings. There are three big rooms and plenty of tables so when you are lucky, you can have a choice of where to sit, depending on occasion. The atmosphere is homely and friendly. Waitresses are dressed in traditional outfits. The food is reasonably priced and portions are big. As you can expect the menu is full of traditional dishes so unfortunately for vegans there is only a few options available, from separate asparagus menu or you can choose side salads. Do make sure you tell them you are a vegan or vegetarian as they use a lot of creams in salads and soups are cooked on beef stock. Their mixed salad is very good, big portion and interesting selection of veggies, not just leafy greens. My vegan dish is pictured below - It was delicious and nicely served.

Disliked being charged over 3 euros for a glass of tap water! Food was not amazing and price was slightly over average. The Swiss people beside us weren't impressed with their roast beef. I had the herring, which was really some fish with a lot of mayonnaise. My husband has the turkey which he liked. Service was poor and didn't speak good English. Hotel itself is nice but go elsewhere for dinner!
Barbara B — Google review
I only used the restaurant during a travel break. The staff this is a tragedy in this place and the food too. Entering the premises, seeing the menu, I asked if I could take it right to the table. Was "yes". In a moment, another waiter came to the ouer table and told me that this place is not a self-service. We ordered a dish that was over salted. When I said that I want to pay with the card there was dissatisfaction. I paid, but then I had to look for a waiter to get the bill. When I found the waiter he just sipped beer in the back room. Generally, I do not recommend this place if someone wants to make a quiet trip without a nerve.
Roman S — Google review
One of the waiters was so rude. He would not let my wife to change her order right after he ordered for every one at our table. He did not even leave our table yet! He replied "NO, you can't change your order. I have sent it in". At the end of our meal, he would not bring us our check but ask my friend's wife to follow him to the front to pay. Yes, he did bring checks to other tables. We travel the world and are very well behaved. So disappointed!
Chia-Chee K — Google review
Is it the best definitely not, is it the worst? The food was meh and nothing to write home about. Found the service probably the slowest in Bavaria. The roast beef was more like a pot roast and served with what tasted likey gravy from a can. For the price expected more.
Nigel G — Google review
Food tasted nice, and the atmosphere was pretty. The service was lacking. They refused to let us get food "to go" for a family member who was sick in the hotel, forcing us to get McDonald's for them instead. We felt like we were bothering them the whole time there.

really liked it. I have something to compare it to. The view of Neuschwanstein Castle is gorgeous. The pools have different salt percentages, you need to book them for 4 hours. Thermas with beautiful views of the mountains, Neue Schwanstein castle. Nice outdoor and indoor pools. Not so crowded. Cool bar inside the indoor pool. Chilled vibes. We didn’t visit the sauna cause we had little time. We considered staying longer and change the travel plans just to stay a few more hours.

It is rare for me to give a 5 star rating. Good things: -Amazing thermal spa treatments, there is a daily list of therapies to follow every half hour. They are all included in the initial fee for getting in (25 euro for 4 hours, slightly more for the full day). We thought 4 hours would be too much however it turned out time flew quicker than expected and would have been better taking the daily ticket instead -all therapies are different and offer their own experience, utilizing different methods and scents. All you have to do is follow the schedule to the dedicated room. There are several areas to the spa, it'll take you a long time to discover and understand it all (that's why it's much better to get a daily ticket) -There is a restaurant on the inside -a bar to drink from inside the pool (alcoholic and non) on stools inside the water -A cafeteria with a large variety of cakes to choose from -All decorations within the spa are incredible, starting from some of the columns covered with crystals, others made of pink, white marble. Chandeliers of fine glass work with beautiful blue colored gems, fantastic work on the staircase leading to the topper floors made of thick veiny marble. Beautiful paintings around, I was studying some for sometime. Innovative ideas for therapies in the saunas, using crystals of eucalyptus and menthol directly on the hot stones, freeing up your upper respiratory system. Salt scrubs and mud baths. Pools are available outside too and they are warm so you can relax and bathe even during the winter while snow is falling atop your head. All sauna rooms and Turkish baths are kept tidy, sanitized and clean, with beautiful decorations on the inside (they are named after the king Ludwig II and other important personalities of the time, so you'll find portraits of Cavaliers and coat of arms). -Customer service is excellent, smiling at all times and dressed impeccably -Such views from every spot that will take your breath away, there is a "panorama sauna" that offers enough space for up to 30 people if not more and a panorama over the Alps and the Neuschwanstein castle. -On the upper level you'll find another restaurant and on the terrace you'll find seating within glass vaults to enjoy the view even during super cold periods (and you're naked in there so how awesome is that?) Bad and So so things: -Upper levels are dedicated to naked people, for the ones that have problems with that and have a different mentality you'll be losing around 70% worth of your ticket fee. The best is located at the top of the complex so overcome your fears and just go. -DO CARRY YOUR TOWEL if you don't have one you'll have to borrow one from the spa and it's 3 euros per towel and a deposit of 10 euros per towel. Plan ahead of time to avoid this. -It's a very family oriented place so you'll find many kids playing around at the first level mainly. This might be annoying at some times for someone. Conclusion: This place is fantastic. I'd recommend it over and over again. The price per day is a bargain and you'll benefit a rejuvenation with a great piece of mind.

Probably the best thermal bad I have visited. For sure the best I know in Germany. Multiple saunas with different temperatures and the whole show with the pouring. The aroma sauna was wonderful. Coffee shops, restaurants, salty and regular pools (not for swimming), whirlpools and more. Incredible views and facilities. Probably even better in Sommer but it was great!

When visiting Tubingen, make sure to include a visit to Restaurant Ludwigs in your evening plans. Located in the heart of the Old Town area, this contemporary restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating. The menu features regional cuisine that is sure to satisfy any palate. Guests have raved about the amazing food, from perfectly cooked meats with flavorful sauces to delightful desserts like apfelstrudel and chocolate mousse.
If you visit the beautiful village of Fussen in the Bavarian Alps and want to try authentic Bavarian cuisine, you must visit this very beautiful restaurant. The food is excellent and served in large, hearty portions. The desserts they serve are also excellent. Finally, the service is fast and efficient and the prices are very reasonable.

Restaurant Ludwigs offers a whimsical dining experience with its over-the-top swan-themed seating and fairy-tale décor, but the real star is the food. Rooted in traditional German cuisine, the menu features standout dishes like the rich, tender Sauerbraten served with red cabbage and dumplings, comfort food done right. Paired with a refreshing Paulaner and finished off with warm apple strudel and vanilla sauce, it’s a full Bavarian experience in the heart of the old town. Great for a memorable meal that feels both classic and playful.
E P — Google review
I learned about Restaurant Ludwigs from Google review and Yelp. When I saw they have apple strudel with vanilla sauce, I convinced my husband we should go. It was kind of a warm day so we opted to sit inside. We were famished after a whole day of castle hopping (we visited Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau Castle) so we were ready to eat. I’ve never had cordon bleu made with pork before and I must say it’s the best one I’ve had. My husband ordered vegan ravioli which he also enjoyed. For dessert, we each got an apfelstrudel mit Vanillesoße. It was alright - definitely not comparable to Vienna’s. Our waiter (we didn’t get his name but I think he manages the place) was awesome. He made us comfortable and checked in just like someone would when someone’s visiting his house. We truly appreciated his genuine hospitality. Our bill was about €60 which was certainly not bad for German standards.

Delicious food all around. We had a mix of things all across the menu and every one of them was very tasty. The service was great, including a fun sense of humor. Highly recommended for great decor some tasty German food.

Stopped by for lunch during our day trip. Really enjoyed the wiener schnitzel and apple strudel! The wiener schnitzel was well-seasoned and crispy. Could not stop eating the vanilla sauce on the apple strudel. Our server was also very friendly and humorous.

Avoid the meat platter!! We ordered the meat platter and the pork knuckle was an incredibly tiny portion and extremely dry compared to the many other ones we’ve had on our trip so far. It is on the right hand side of the picture. When we brought this to the attention of the manager he didn’t apologize but said this is exactly how the dish is supposed to be cooked. We said we’ve had many of these before and it’s never been impossible to cut with dry meat in the middle. He claimed we had eaten the whole thing so he couldn’t do anything about the bill and even tried to cut it up further to show there was more meat - however, I had 1 bite and there was nothing else edible. The manager never apologized and said he’s been working in the restaurant for years and that’s how it’s always been. Head to any restaurant in Munich for way better pork knuckle.

Ludwig’s in Füssen is an absolute gem! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with the perfect mix of traditional Bavarian charm and a lively energy. I ordered the lemon beer and a refreshing lemonade—both were fantastic and hit the spot after a day of exploring. We also had delish traditional German food. The service was friendly and attentive without ever feeling rushed, and the food around us looked incredible. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel at home while still soaking in the local culture. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Füssen—you won’t regret it!

Food is pretty good and the service was amazing! We ate there both of our nights in Füssen. I left a hair tie there (one of the thick expensive ones) and didn’t even realize. When I came back the next night to eat again, the server remembered me and still had it! Was very sweet! Love love loved the maultaschen! My favorite German food and they make it really good! Also get the Ludwigs Spritz! I also stayed at the hotel here 3 years ago and only good things as well!

Museums
The Museum of the Bavarian Kings is a must-visit for those interested in the history of the German kings, particularly King Maximilian II and King Ludwig II. Situated in Schwangau, it offers a comprehensive exhibition on the royal Wittelsbach family and their reign. The museum is conveniently located near the famous Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles, making it an ideal addition to a visit to these landmarks.
🏰✨ Museum of the Bavarian Kings, Hohenschwangau If you have the time, visit this museum first. It is an educational and inspiring place that opens the path to discovering Ludwig II’s castles and the treasures of Bavaria 🌿. Everything else can come afterwards – the museum provides the context that makes your visit to Neuschwanstein, Linderhof, or the “Little Versailles” even more meaningful. Highlights include: • Insight into Ludwig II, his family, education, and the opportunities he had. • Surprising historical connections, like his relation to Empress Sisi. • A calm and harmonious space where history and art can be absorbed, preparing you for the castles themselves. • Audio guide offering detailed explanations, giving every part of the exhibition deeper significance. 💫 Verdict: This is not just a historical museum – it is a place that educates, inspires, and prepares visitors to explore the beauty and dreams of Ludwig II. If you give it time, it becomes a doorway into understanding the man who built castles as stone diaries of his ideals.

It is what the name meant. I didn’t like it because the order of the pictures and stories in the audio guide wasn’t ordered properly according to date. You can see many times the next person is older than the person

The Museum of the Bavarian Kings (Museum der Bayerischen Könige) offers a well-curated, modern look into the legacy of the Wittelsbach dynasty, one of Europe’s oldest ruling families. Located on the shores of the Alpsee in Hohenschwangau, the museum traces the lineage from medieval dukes to King Ludwig II, with a strong focus on his life, myth, and the construction of Neuschwanstein. Interactive displays, personal artifacts, and multimedia installations bring the royal narrative to life without feeling overwhelming. The museum’s architecture blends historic and contemporary design; a worthwhile visit before or after exploring the nearby castles.
E P — Google review
Beautiful Exterior, Disappointing Interior – Not Worth the €21 Ticket The castle’s exterior is absolutely breathtaking, offering stunning views that are worth billions. Ludwig II truly had a remarkable vision for architecture, creating something out of a fairy tale. However, the guided tour inside was quite underwhelming. The ticket price of €21 felt excessive for what was on display. It seems the owners are aware of this, as they strictly prohibit photography inside. In all honesty, if visitors saw what was inside beforehand, many might reconsider paying for the tour. Compared to Ludwig II’s incredible design sense, his parents’ interior décor choices were far less impressive. If you visit, I highly recommend enjoying the castle from the outside—it’s truly the highlight of the experience! “Bavaria is Germany’s treasure trove.”
Vivian L — Google review
The Museum of the Bavarian Kings is a beautifully presented look into Bavaria’s royal history. Located right by the lake in Hohenschwangau, the setting is stunning and adds to the experience. The exhibits are well organized and informative, offering an engaging story of the Wittelsbach family and their legacy, including King Ludwig II. The displays are modern and interactive, with detailed explanations in both German and English, making it easy to follow even if you’re not fluent in German. The only downside is that the museum is a bit smaller than expected, so you can walk through it fairly quickly. Still, the quality of the exhibits, the breathtaking views of the lake and Neuschwanstein Castle, and the calm atmosphere make it well worth a visit. It’s a great stop before or after exploring the castles, and a solid choice for anyone interested in Bavarian history.

It's a great place to enjoy Mediterranean cuisine in Rieden am Forggensee. With its simple yet delicious offerings, it's definitely worth a visit for those craving authentic Italian flavors amidst beautiful surroundings.
Our favourite meal of our whole trip. The food was packed to bursting with flavour, I’m still thinking about the pasta days later! My daughter had the gluten free pizza, which was out of this world. By far the best stone baked base ever! And they offer any pizza toppings on the menu. The place was relaxed and had a wonderful atmosphere. We will definitely visit again when we are next in schwangau

Might have caught this place on a bad day. But the pesto was super bitter. The gnocchi was overcooked as was the tagliatele, and the all'amatriciana was a little thin, light on the guanciale, and had no peccorino but still bursting with smoky flavor so that was a win. Everywhere where there should have been basil, We seem to have arugula, which was pretty different, but no big deal (except the pesto, which they could have called out). They closed early for a private event and seemed pretty scattered. They were all very kind. But the atmosphere was a little intense. There was a cell phone ringing, pretty much the entire time, we were there. Unanswered. We werent allowed to sit outside due to an early closure, so that was a bummer, but understandable, they had a private event. It wasn't a particularly expensive meal, but too many things piled up to call it a good meal. I suspect maybe itnwas just bad timing and circumstance. Again, nice folks

Delicious food, beautiful view of Neuschwanstein Castle. The owner speaks Italian, German and English. He was so kind and patient. He has Gluten free options for those who are celiac. My husband said it was the best gluten free pizza crust he has ever had. It was so soft. My pizza was wonderful and he was kind enough to give me extra basil for my pizza. The cappuccino was amazing!

Beautiful Italian. Very delicious and timely service. The Cappuccino and Bruschetta were top notch h with loads of flavor. However, not on the menu they had a Gluten Free (Glutenfrie) crust that was so fluffy and delicious.

ONCE IN A LIFETIME! and that‘s Even too much… We had a Take-Away order placed directly after opening. Three of five pizzas were really disgusting, the tuna wasn‘t even eatable for cats and all toppings flushing down the surprisingly thin and crispy dough. But that didn‘t rescue my dish of rigatoni, that was clearly from the day before and tasted like old cooler.

Very cozy, authentic restaurant. Their kitchen stays open later than any other restaurant in Schwangau, which is very helpful if your plans get delayed like ours did. I had the tomato salad, which was delightful. I don't recall the name of my husband's pizza but he very much enjoyed it.

Forest Experience Center Ziegelwies offers a range of family-friendly activities, including adventure trails and treetop walks. Visitors can explore suspension bridges at treetop level and access free entry with the "Konigskarte" pass available from local hotels.

This was a remarkable playground circuit hike for kids unlike anything we Americans had ever seen! So cleverly designed, and more imaginative, in a love,y forest. , leading to the huge footbridge to Austria. The chute slide was incredible! My grandkids especially enjoyed pulling themselves across the creek on the barge. Recommend so highly! We walked from our hotel in Fuessen.

A great place to visit, especially if you have young children.
Alison L — Google review
Pros: 1. The tree top bridge /walk way is accessible by strollers. The forest trail itself can be accessed by pram/stroller which is just amazing! The forest trail is free to visit. 2.Kids 4-10 years old will definitely enjoy the activities there at the forest trail. 3. There are free toilets. 4. There is free museum for kids where they get to know more about the forest. 5.Lots of play areas. Cons: 1. It is difficult to get mobile reception in the forest so going there is kind of risky with small kids if they get seriously injured and you can't call help. 2.On sunny days lots of people go to the forest area and you would have to stand in long lines for your kids to enjoy a popular activity. 3. The baumkronenweg is rather short but you have to pay 5euros/person which does not seem value for money.

Lechfall is a picturesque stepped waterfall located in Fussen, Germany, on the chalk blue-green Lech river. It's just a 20-minute walk from Fussen train station through a lovely park. The falls were constructed in the 18th century to prevent flooding in Fussen. The Lech river flows from Austria through Germany and eventually reaches Augsburg before joining the Danube.
The pictures simply don’t do justice to this place! I had been meaning to visit for so long, and I finally made it on December 25th. Since it was a holiday, there were very few people around, giving us plenty of time to explore and take as many photos as we wanted. The experience was absolutely magical. In winter, the scenery is mesmerizing, and I can only imagine how stunning it must look in summer or autumn. I highly recommend visiting this place if you’re planning a trip to Neuschwanstein Castle—it’s an experience you won’t forget! Beautiful falls and a great hike. We found parking just off the road. We had no problem with finding parking. The bridge and trail were not crowded. However, it was a cool day with rain on and off. We only took the trail a short distance, however, had the weather been better we would have happily gone farther. Highly recommend seeing the falls!

Lechfall is a great little stop in Füssen, just a short walk from the old town. The turquoise water rushing through the gorge is really impressive, and the viewing platform gives a nice angle of the falls. Reptilienzoo Allgäu, located in Fussen, offers a unique experience with its diverse collection of exotic reptiles, fish, birds, and mammals. The zoo is situated on an old industrial site and houses various animals such as tortoises, snakes, iguanas, caiman, spiders, frogs, and mongoose. Visitors can witness the active behavior of the animals in beautifully designed enclosures.
I spent 2 hours here with my son and we loved every minute of it. They have some really cool animals that we haven't seen before and we have been to many zoos. I can highly recommend this place.

Very nice place and the terrariums and aquariums are clean and enough space for the reptiles. The costumer service very friendly. Kid friendly place too! Prices are ok.

I was very impressed by so many different kinds of animals! 😍 I can definitely recommend this place, here you can learn a lot and watch animals that you can hardly see in Europe. In addition, the team is very friendly, at the ticket station you will be met by a smiling man who will gladly sell you a ticket and show you the direction 😉
Kate Z — Google review
I was absolutely amazed by this incredible little place. Three rooms and yet four hours flew by without us noticing when we visited one Saturday in November. The quality of the enclosures puts most top- tier UK zoos to shame - large, clean and cleverly designed to give excellent views of the animals while giving places to hide and climb. No wonder the animals look so healthy and gorgeous. There's heaps of information here on nearly every species and further information you can scan with your phone (which is easier if your German isn't as terrible as mine). I was particularly impressed with the macaw jungle-gym, which is less of an enclosure and more of an assortment of ropes and stands in the middle of the second room on which the five parrots wander. Talk about close encounters! Just bring a pair of earplugs if you're noise-sensitive! This little gem was very easy to navigate, there was plenty of parking and it's wheelchair accessible. No café, but there are toilets and a snack machine. I imagine children would have an incredible time, but this is definitely a must-see if you're in the area and love reptiles, aquatic life and/or birds!
Stephanie S — Google review
Parking lot at entrance, near river (just follow signs). Fun to see many new species - especially from Australia and SE Asia - including an iridescent amethystine python.
Simon D — Google review
I have never seen so many active reptiles and so many different types! We saw so many animals happily moving around in their cages, which are beautifully designed. The smell isn't great, but that's what it is when you have an indoor space and you do get used to it. We stayed for hours seeing all the different displays. They even have large alligators and some mammals, such as meerkats. We enjoyed our visit very much and would highly suggest going.

Historical landmark
Hohes Castle, located in the German town of Füssen at the end of the famous Romantic Avenue, offers stunning rural views and a glimpse into regional 1500s art. The castle's prominent hilltop position provides breathtaking vistas of the surrounding Alpine mountains and the serene Lech River. Visitors can explore its ornate banqueting hall, trompe-l'oeil paintings in the inner courtyard, an art gallery, prison tower, and a small chapel.
This place was a total surprise. Didn't know it existed until I walked up by chance - had time and decided to wonder. The park next to the castle opens in the evening. It was well maintained and a great place for an evening stroll around the castle. It feels very secluded. This is my favorite place on visiting Fussen; This compensates for the disappointment from visiting the two castles - H&N.

gothic medieval fortress served as seat for princes and now is a complex holding a Chapel, a museum of gothic medieval paintings, knight's hall and side chambers. entrance fee can be combined with the Rathaus museum. the interior fasade had some illusion paintings.

The historic area around Füssen is home to the impressive Hochschloss, also known as the Hohes Schloss, which towers above the charming town center and offers a remarkable glimpse into late Gothic architecture and Bavarian history. The castle complex originally dates back to Roman times, but the current form was built and extensively renovated between the 13th and 15th centuries, later serving as a summer residence for the prince bishops of Augsburg. One of the most striking features is the illusionistic architectural paintings in the inner courtyard, which still enchant visitors today with their artistry and detail. During our visit, we enjoyed a leisurely afternoon exploring not just the castle’s exterior and courtyards but also ventured up to the Hochreservoir, which provided a unique perspective over Füssen and the surrounding landscape. The castle complex houses the State Gallery with regional art from the 15th and 16th centuries, as well as the Städtische Gemäldegalerie showcasing 19th-century works. Wandering through the battlements and climbing the towers rewarded us with panoramic views, and the peaceful, historic ambiance made for a memorable experience. It’s a wonderful destination for anyone interested in architecture, history, or simply looking for a beautiful spot to spend a quiet afternoon. The mix of art galleries, historic towers, and stunning views creates an inspiring setting well worth the visit. The Hochschloss and the Hochreservoir together made for a great day—highly recommended for a cultural and scenic outing in Füssen.

Old citadel situated above the city, very well preserved. Nice to visit any time of the day, but in the evening feels magical, especially during winter time.

Very nice castle to visit while in Fussen. It was built in iterations starting with an “illegal” fortification in the 12th C. It houses art installations and it is also interesting to climb to the battlements and up the tower. There are great views of the cit and surrounding area that shout it be missed. Next to this impressive castle is a beautiful park with benches and views of the river far below. 45 minutes is all you need in the castle before you continue your exploration of the city. Have Fun!
Wayne B — Google review
A calm and nice castle on the hill in the town. It is now an art museum. I could walk to the square of the castle but not inside of the building itself. It seems the castle is only open for a limited time in a day, so check the information before you visit the place. The walkway between the castle and the river and the one behind the castle were also great spots to take a rest.

St. Coloman Church is a stunning baroque church located in the picturesque village of Hohenschwangau, Germany. Built in the 17th century, it stands on the spot where St. Coloman, an Irish monk, rested during his pilgrimage to Jerusalem. The church boasts a mix of Gothic and Bavarian Baroque architecture and features an ornate stucco chapel and painted altar.
St. Coloman Church is a serene and picturesque spot nestled in the Bavarian countryside. The baroque architecture is beautiful, but it’s the panoramic views around the church that truly stand out. St. Coloman is absolutely stunning! The church itself is beautiful, and the surrounding scenery is breathtaking, with the Alps providing a perfect backdrop. If you look off into the distance, you can even see the iconic Neuschwanstein Castle from afar – it’s a sight to behold! For those who don't have a car or own a vehicle, the public transport system is really convenient, making it easy to get to the area. Plus, if you’re in need of some refreshments, the nearby Rewe Supermarkt is a great stop. There's also a lovely café inside Rewe serving delicious cakes, coffee, and hot chocolate – perfect for a cozy break while enjoying the view. Highly recommend visiting!

American here.. We visited today. Parking on the hill.. It was fantastic! Steak is not American tasting but once you get used to it's flavor it's pretty rad. Dinner for 2 with dessert was 100 euro.. Was comparable to a fancy restaurant though so imo worth it.. Die Kellner was gut as well!

We needed a welcome break from the standard fare of the area and left full and happy. Stop in during shoulder season. Host was awesome, explained the menu, and the preparation. We ordered a few tapas, and split the tenderloin with accompanying sides. Calamari was soft, bonus! Steak was cooked as asked, medium to medium rare, every bite was a delicious. Thank you. We could hear the waterfall, but came for dinner well after sunset. Would be great early to mid afternoon spot, especially for tapas.

We had lunch, as the custom is for Germans and other Europeans, at 12 (😱). I had a cream soup with shrimp which was exceptional. And as in most restaurants in Bavaria it was soooo hot inside. They should turn down the heating to be more sustainable, it's not necessary to burn live.

Bella Pizza Delivery Service is an exceptional and modest establishment that offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with staff members who are incredibly friendly. Their pizza is cooked using genuine firewood, resulting in an authentic stone-baked taste that is difficult to find elsewhere in Canada. The quality of their pizza gives the impression of being homemade with great care and affection. In addition to their incredible pizzas, they offer a customized vegetarian option packed with a generous amount of fresh vegetables.
Lots of toppings to choose from with additional extras like chilli flakes, garlic sauce and oregano. Delicious stone-baked pizza with vegetarian options too. Thank you!

Disappointing experience. The quality of the ingredients was very poor, worse than what you'd find at a typical kebab shop pizza. We ordered two pizzas, but was so bad that we had to throw it away—it was completely inedible.

We’re two Canadians in Germany looking for a pizza after two weeks of eating lots and lots of German food. We asked, what’s the best pizza you make. Without a pause, they said Bombay pizza, with chicken, pineapple, onions and an exceptionally delicious curry dip. I’m telling you, it was soooooo delicious. The beer went well with the pizza and we topped it off with a tub of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The cook was a master of his trade. The wood fired oven created a perfect crust. I would swim the ocean to get this again, in my dreams of course. Seriously, it was simply delicious and just what we needed after six days of hiking 130 kilometres to this beautiful area of Germany.

During the summer this place is great for having a nice picnic by the water. The place is surrounded by cafes and restaurants though right now due to lockdown everything is majorly closed or only doing take away. I highly recommend this place. I will definitely be back in the summers. This area is in the Fussen area so if you are here please don’t miss the lake

One of many lakes around Füssen, quite small but very pretty. Perfect for a days walk, if you pick up the pace it takes less than two hours to go around it. Plenty of benches, ducks, swans, wooden sculptures along the way, with fantastic view on the mountains. And without Corona, plenty of restaurants and cafes.

I went to Füssen with my friends Pathy, Sicky and Zippy. We weren’t sure what attractions we would find, at first we went for a walk to Austria, or was it Australia? Anyway that was ok... we saw a cave and then Zippy got scared by a bear and went home in tears. Eventually we encouraged Zippy to come back out and come to Aulwaldpfad... despite not being able to pronounce it. There was a delightful raft on the river which Pathy and Sicky took no problem. But then Zippy took it and he got his feet wet and that was sad. Undeterred however Zippy then ran over a rope bridge, went in to a ‘Dutch tunnel’ and went down a big slide. We also discovered a really fun game called ‘gondolea’. In this game you had to wait until someone shouted the aforementioned word and run as fast as you could to something which wasn’t on the ground. The person left on the ground at the end then had to hold an L symbol on their head - both to signify that they were a loser and that they were still learning. Personally I was the worst at this game but I still had a lot of fun in the playing of it. There is a treetop bridge that you can walk on after your tour of all the fun attractions. We however did not partake in the treetop walk because it cost money for a ticket. We reckon that you could sneak on to the bridge but we would not encourage that type of behaviour. There are many other enjoyable amenities in the surrounding area including a waterfall, toilet, benches, an old ski jump and a really fun mini golf. We enjoyed all of these amenities during our trip to Auwaldpfad. If you have friends like Pathy, Zippy and Sicky then I would recommend that you take the ‘jump’ and visit Auwaldpfad during the next time you are in the vicinity of the historic Bavarian town of Füssen. Best bakery in the universe, I wish they moved to New Zealand (where I'm from.) The bread is fresh and handmade, with the pastries being so fluffy & delicious 😋. Really big selection to choose from, and customer service is great too 🙂

I was about to start an adventure, so I wanted to fill up before I did. I chose this charming spot in Füssen. My significant other and I walked inside. I was blown away by all of the items to choose from. We went to the counter to order. I ordered a Hausgemachter Apfelstrudel. It was a Stück for 3,90 €. I also ordered a Cappuccino. It was 3,40 €. We got a Chococino to share. It was 3,50 €. We sat down at a table inside. The Apfelstrudel had a lot of layers. It was pretty good. The Cappuccino was prepared nicely. It had a pleasant flavor. The Chococino was my favorite item. It was packed with flavor. The service was fantastic. Everyone I encountered was helpful. I didn’t have any issues. Overall, I’m glad I got the chance to try this spot out. I wouldn’t hesitate to go again in the future. Date of visit: 17.9.2024

Lot's of tasty breakfast options! We had cappucinos with oat milk (they're a bit bigger than a usual cappucino) and both sweet and salty baked goods. I recommend sitting outside, it was nice and calm in the morning :) The staff was friendly and helpful.

Wonderful family-owned bakery in Füssen! Heavenly pastries and kind staff, most of whom speak at least some English. The coffee was also excellent. Start your day here before headed to the castles or a bit of hiking and you can't go wrong. <3

Most gorgeous place in Füssen. Must go, the history and architecture it's gorgeous. Don't want to spoil anything but please go right ahead, one thing I was left unsatisfied with was lack of English translations.

Absolute beauty, a true Alpine pearl. This place is so heavenly serene that you immediately find yourself immersed in nature. The colors are mesmerizing, changing from sky-blue to deep turquoise. It was impossible for such an amateur photographer like me to capture the unfading beauty of Alpsee. So I'm very grateful of people who posted good photos, thanks to which I discovered this treasure. After visiting Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein I was truly delighted to spend around an hour at this peaceful heaven, watching the ducks swimming in the clear water. There was an absolutely cute dog playing fetch with his human, swimming around the ducks, while none of them was scared.

CASH ONLY restaurant! The food was very good! We enjoyed sitting outside and enjoying the nice weather. Great drink selection too.

The place was very nice but the food was ok at best. The waitress was really kind but she was never there for the whole evening, so that we couldn't even ask for some bread. On top of that we had to wait 20 minutes to eat when the restaurant was basically empty. The prices were a bit high considering the quality of the food.

Good food and the prices were reasonable. The location is pretty nice. It only takes cash though and there are no visible signs, so be wary.

We stopped here before heading to the famous castle and it was one of the highlights of the trip. The food is so good with very deep flavours and loads of intensity, a very home made Bavarian style and nice big portions. The price is very appropriate. Don’t miss the pasta with cheese sauce and crispy onions.

Open earlier than most of the other lunch places at 11:00 am. Food was ok, although schnitzel was not anything special. We ordered one kids meal and the waitress brought the full size and charged us for full size even after she realized she put in the order incorrectly. Beer was good though.
David R — Google review
I had the maulstachen (this ravioli-like food) with mushroom sauce while my husband had a large salatteler with some sort of deep fried cheese thing. Food is okay. Service is good. Just manage your expectations and remember that you are in a tourist town.
Trix L — Google review
The soup portion is extremely small. The "bowl" was just a bit bigger than a coffee cup. The waiter seemed bored and there was no sign that you can only pay by cash. The fact that there were plenty of empty tables should have been a warning, considering that in other places you had to wait. I would not return to eat here.

We had a wonderful lunch at Zum Schwanen in Füssen. Everything we tried was fresh, flavourful, and satisfying. The meal began with a hearty beef soup, followed by a delicious mushroom cake — beautifully presented with a refined mix of textures and flavours. It was easily the highlight of the meal! We also enjoyed a traditional cabbage roll and a locally prepared red sausage, both well-executed and full of authentic taste. The service was quick and welcoming, especially thanks to the kind assistance of a helpful lady who made our experience even more pleasant. A great spot for a relaxed and high-quality lunch in the heart of an old part of Füssen. Great value for your money. Very recommended!

We all had a delicious meal, and the food and service were wonderful. The only downsides were the €4.50 charge per cola and the fact that no complimentary bread was offered. It’s clear you’re paying a bit for the location, but overall, we had a great dining experience and would definitely recommend giving it a try.

Amazing place! It is beautiful, the location is easy to find, also can park your car. The rooms are old school, toilet and shower are on the corridor, in your room you have a sink only. Everything is very clean. But the mood is very nice and calm. The staff is so very helpful and everyone walks with a smile on their face. 😊 The restaurant is comfy with classic design but with a modern feeling. And the food...!!! This was the best of the best we ate the whole week in Germany!!! The kitchen closes early, the last order can be given at 18:30, but it totally wotrth it. Try their Käsespätzle! 😎 You're usually with car in this area. Do yourself a favour and have at least a dinner here (even if the old school room is not your style)! 😉

Gorgeous location with the most peaceful lake!! The staff were wonderful, the floorboards a bit creaky but the beds were comfy and the rooms well laid out. A great selection for breakfast including a waffle machine (very exciting!) and plenty of parking. The road to the hotel is a bit windy but really takes you into nature and away from everyday life... We actually booked last minute after our campsite got flooded but it beat all expectations - Would definitely recommend and hope to be back soon

Review is only for the service at the restaurant. The place is located about 20 meters from a clear nice swimming lake. We went to the lake with our two kids to swim and so we didn’t bring any streetclothes. The kids got hungry and we hoped to have a small lunch at the nice looking restaurant. However as we waited to get a table a very rude woman told us we are not allowed to sit while wearing bathing suits. Keep in mind that it is right next to a swinging lake. So we got some fries, a beer and a latte to go. The fries and beer were good but the latte was lukewarm.

Fantastic location, surrounded by trees and mountains and at the foot of a gorgeous clear lake. There are hiking paths in all directions and a Kneipp walkthrough running directly from the lake. The hotel was actually a spontaneous visit (after our campsite got flooded) but we were met by friendly and competent staff, had a great room with a balcony and enjoyed a good continental breakfast. There was even a waffle machine with fresh batter! The staff helped with every query and always with a smile on their face. Good WiFi and clean facilities. The floorboards in the building are quite loud and creaky but this is to be expected in an old idyllic building :)

Slow service, not attentive for any follow up orders, or to receive payment. Cake was average. A beautiful place with a very pleasant atmosphere. The food was excellent – the burger was simply perfect. The French fries were also outstanding. Average food, small portions, prices a bit excessive. You can eat so much bette than this in Germany. We had the Schnitzel and it was fryed 10 min more than what it should. Super tough to shew... potato salad was a bit better. The steak was average and the french fried also fryed too much. Someone needs to give the heads up to the kitchen that the food is jot meant to be black...

Restaurants im Hirsch offers a delightful dining experience with its highly recommended mushroom soup and Wiener Schnitzel. The outdoor seating provides a great atmosphere, while the historic hotel adds to the charm of the place. Despite a limited menu due to local restrictions, the friendly staff and decent food make it a worthwhile stop in downtown. Although slightly on the expensive side, this crowded restaurant is known for serving good quality dishes.
Great German food! I had a very nice Lamm Haxe with Bratkartoffeln und Grüne Bohnen. Our kids split the Rinderschulter with Rotkraut und Klose and ate every bite! Nice Biergarten (although the cars are just the other side of a hedge) and museum like interior in the hotel.

I had a really great meal here. A lovely soup and a fabulous pork and mushroom main, as well as a good dessert. Dishes were local and very good too. As I was staying in the hotel I almost went into town for dinner but I'm really pleased I didn't!

Very nice restaurant in Bavarian style inside the Hirsch Hotel. The atmosphere is warm and friendly with polite staff. The dished (based on Bavarian cusine) are well prepared and tasty. I had a Hirschrücken and it was very soft and delicious, really well done. The homemade mashed potatoes were also very good, really nice to see a restaurant offering freshly homemade mashed potatoes instead of ready to cook one.

Decent food, friendly staff! The Wiener Schnitzel is recommended. Shirt list menu, but that was due to the restrictions in Germany. Located downtown easy accessible!

The absolute best mushroom soup I’ve ever had!! Should have just ordered 3 of these for all my food. That’s not to say the pork and schnitzel weren’t good. They were. The soup was just too good though! Anyway, the outdoor seats were great. And the hotel is super cool looking. And old and stuff too.

Our waiter was very nice but unfortunately the goose we ordered was very dry (overcooked) and the venison was good but for what we paid I thought we may get a bit more than the ONE piece that was about an inch & a half in diameter and maybe an inch and a half thick. Most of sides had great flavor though.
Nicolle P — Google review
Very good Bavarian cuisine in a charming traditional atmosphere We had the roasted and smoked venison (picture) which was one of the best ones I ever had The rumpsteak was also very good. Service was quick and friendly. Prices range between 9€ for vegetarian dishes like Käsespätzle up to 20-25 dishes for the aforementioned dishes. All in all a very recommendable restaurant for both finer evenings or beer nights with the lads

Department store
Woolworth is a large two-story store with a wide range of products including clothing, bed linen, school supplies, handcrafting materials, bike accessories, kitchen equipment, bathroom essentials and home decor. The store offers occasional great deals and affordable products. However, it can get crowded and messy during peak hours. The staff is friendly and helpful. The assortment is well-organized across the two floors. Parking may be a challenge as there's no free parking available but the location is convenient.

Has a great variety of things froms clothes and bed linen to school and handcrafting stuff, bike accessories and lot of equipment for kitchen, bathroom and decoration in general. Good offers from time to time, and some really cheap products from the usual stock. The only minus is that it is usually a bit messy and not that pleasant to walk around during rush hours.

The store is full of merchandise and in some departments very hard to get through with social distancing. Some of the merchandise is hung up so high that it's impossible to get it down if you're not very tall. The cashier's do not have to wear masks so a smile and a hello would be nice. There are a few that are very friendly. Prices are great.

The store had what we needed but the lady working the cash register this evening was incredibly rude. She scanned our things and slid them to the side and then turned her back to us and began talking with another employee while we paid, okay. Hotel Füssen is a cozy property located on a charming street in the old town. The rooms, although small, are clean and well-equipped for a comfortable stay. While there's no air conditioning, the central location allows for easy exploration of the area's colorful houses and proximity to attractions like the High Castle of Füssen. The friendly staff and convenient parking add to the overall positive experience.
Perfect stay! Starting with the room, which was brand new in the new wing of the hotel, very spacious with 2 queen size beds (this room was for 3 people), under floor heating and a large tv. Even though the hotel is positioned in the center and main pedestrian alley, it is not noisy at all. Very nice staff, good food (breakfast), there were options for everybody. Will definitely be back, totally worth it (the prices are good for what they offer)!

We had a perfect stay at Hotel Fussen. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The included buffet breakfast was very good. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. We really liked the location of the hotel. It's just a few minutes walk from the train and bus stations, where you can take transport to do hikes in the nearby areas and the Neuschewanstein and Hohenschwanghau castles.
Debbie L — Google review
My bottom line on any property is: would I recommend it to family and friends. I wouldn't recommend this hotel. Too many negatives. Our room, for instance, was extremely hot with no way to cool it down. At least 80F/27C at night. The bathroom was tiny and the toilet jammed into a corner. You had to sit on it at a 45-degree angle. The shower was like trying to rinse w an eye dropper the water pressure was so bad on the second floor. It had a waterfall faucet in the shower, but the water pressure wasn't strong enough to keep it on. The sheets were like sleeping on burlap. The worst, though, is the confusion they had on my stay. They put me in one room, then claimed I was in that room plus another. They called multiple times and sent 'urgent' emails wanting to know why I was in two rooms and told me I needed to move my belongings ... Only to find out that they had screwed up. I didn't appreciate the implications that I had done something wrong and really didn't appreciate the multiple interruptions while I was trying to vacation. Travelling can be stressful enough ... I didn't need extra when I wasn't at fault. And on the day I was checking out, they sent emails to check in online. What? Why? Location was great. The restaurant is very nice. But there must be better hotels in Fussen that solve their own problems without being so eager to foist them onto a guest.
Fletcher D — Google review
Finding the parking was a little challenging. You have to drive through pedestrian walkways yo the back. But once you know, it's the best place to stay and enjoy the old village. Fabulous all around!
Barbra A — Google review
Wonderful service and perfect location! Rooms were spacious and clean! Breakfast was extensive and welcoming. Would definitely stay here again.
Lindsey H — Google review
Location is great but was expensive for one night stay. Can always look for better cheaper options nearby. Didn’t provide tea/coffee. Provided with hot water kettle only after request. Parking is behind the hotel as the front entrance is pedestrian only street
Priti K — Google review
Right in the heart of Füssen. Great breakfast and spacious rooms. Feels a bit like an Airbnb because of how check-in and check-out works. Reception is not open 24/7 so take that into consideration.
Daniel V — Google review
In the heart of the Old Town. Has parking, which needs a reservation, and entails an interesting drive down what looks like pedestrianised roads. Rooms are very modern, warm, and comfortable. I note some reviews critique the lack of air conditioning. However, I see that as a plus. Credit to reception for a most enthusiastic, hospitable, and fluent English welcome. We returned to this hotel two years after the review above, to the same welcome. That in itself is testament to our faith in the place.

Museum
Specialty Museums
The Museum of Fuessen is located in a former Benedictine abbey and features a collection of art, artifacts, lutes, and violins. The museum is situated in the old town of Fussen, which also boasts attractions such as the 'High Castle' and the former Benedictine monastery of St Mang. The town itself has historical significance dating back to Roman times when it was part of an important trade route over the Alps.
It was really worth the visit! The library is stunning! The musical instrument section was also particularly interesting. I really recommend it!
Eleonora B — Google review
The signs are only in German, and they didn’t indicate there was an audio guide, so think a translation or tour app is pretty key for understanding the content. Even without those, the museum has a lot of interesting objects that are well displayed and laid out within this former Benedictine Monastery, such as the Dance of Death in Annakapelle painting, recreated violin making workshop, library’s architecture, seeing the inside of a small organ, the Kapitelsaal room’s paintings, and more.
Becky T — Google review
Museum is 2 floors. u start with geology and roman arcade discovery. a chapel, baroque library, baroque study room, baroque imperial hall, violin history, hand made baroque cribs and much more to discover. very intellectual and fun to explore.
David A — Google review
Interesting little museum that’s connected to the St Mang Abbey (I think?) . Hours are very odd - in the winter, only open Fri-Sun from 1-4pm. You get a 1€ discount if you have a Fussen card. My favorite room was the library. It’s freezing cold in there, so keep your winter jackets with you. My main negative is all the info placards are in German, which I guess I can’t complain about, but it gets tiring to have to translate everything (as a non German speaking tourist) , so you end up just walking through and not learning a whole lot. There are 2 WC in the museum. Lots of mixture of what’s in it - lots about violin making; some old stones; library; religious items. Definitely worth stopping by tho if you have an hour.
Shannon E — Google review
A very mixed bag: rather incoherent collection of things. Puzzling, to be honest. A nice building. Not a great museum.

Small but perfectly formed. Fascinating to learn about the musical and industrial history of the town

Beim Ditsch is a charming restaurant in Fussen, Germany that offers delicious food at reasonable prices. The portions are generous and perfect for those with a big appetite. The service is exceptional, with friendly and attentive staff who go out of their way to make diners feel welcome. The menu features a variety of dishes, including soups and flamkuchen options, as well as Paulaner beer on tap.
Had a fantastic meal at Beim Ditsch. My wife and I had soup, rosti with smoked salmon and the Snitzel all of which were excellent. The hosts were also very nice and hospitable. It was one of the best meals we had while travelling in Germany and Austria. Prices were also very reasonable. Highly recommend.
Junwen W — Google review
Very cosy, small, local restaurant with delicious food. We had goulasch soup (great!) and pork schnitzel. Very friendly, English speaking waitress :) I highly recommend this place!
Krzysztof M — Google review
Wanted some schnitzel after spending the entire day at the castles. This popped up with great reviews. I was highly pleased!! The town is very cute. This little spot had super quick service. The food was fantastic. The staff were so friendly and sweet and attentive. Very affordable! And not the high prices like you see near the castles. Highly recommended the 10 min drive to this little spot! The area directly around this is open to locals only for parking, so you do need to be mindful that you’ll have to park a little way away but not too far. Less than a 10 min walk.
Brittany C — Google review
What a find was this restaurant!! We had dinner our last night here and we shared a salad and had the Mac and cheese and the Wiener schnitzel and local bier! The food was very good, the service fast and the ambience, vibe and owners all sehr gut!! Definitely worth a stop if you’re in Fussen! Highly recommend!

Too many restaurant to choose from but this one caught our attention. We had rostï with smoked salmon and salad,it was superb. The lady was very friendly. We had our table outside .It has an outdoor and indoor seatings. Prices are reasonable. Recommended
Tammy B — Google review
Great service, the lady helping us was very sweet. The food was also delicious! Definitely recommended to try out typical dishes. Only thing is, portions are a bit small compared to the price, but it is a touristic small town, so it makes sense.

Much better than average traditional German food and at a lower than average price. Great service too. Perfect choice in Fussen.

Beim Ditsch is a great spot to enjoy traditional Bavarian food. We had the white sausages and another dish I can’t remember, but everything we tried was very tasty. Friendly service and a cozy atmosphere made it a lovely stop

Pizza restaurant
Pizzeria Da Salvatore is a cozy and friendly restaurant with a warm atmosphere. The staff are incredibly welcoming, making you feel like you're visiting old friends from the moment you step in. The service is attentive and the food is top-notch. Customers rave about the delicious pizzas and pasta dishes, all made with fresh and high-quality ingredients. The portions are generous, ensuring that you leave satisfied. In addition to the fantastic food, they also offer a nice selection of wines to complement your meal.
Quite simply the best pizza I have ever had, and Salvatore is a charming and welcoming host. The atmosphere was relaxed. The house salad was good and the lasagna was delicious. Fantastic prices as well for the value-conscious in an otherwise relatively expensive tourist area.
Stephanie L — Google review
We were here on a Sunday for lunch, and had the best pizza in a while. I had Spinaci e Gorgonzola and my husband had the Inferno. So lecker! And the service was extra ordinary, the hosts are very friendly. Will definitely come again 💜
Desanka Z — Google review
A family owned restaurant with delicious pizza and a wonderful atmosphere - you have to meet Salvatore! We ate here on our first night in Füssen, and made sure to return again before we left!!
Zach B — Google review
If you are looking for an authentic Italian meal, this is the place. The calzone and Rigatoni were the best we had ever had (and that is not an exaggeration). It is a small restaurant with limited tables, but that lends to the coziness and warmth of this Sicilian gem in the heart of Fussen.
Suzanne M — Google review
The food and service were incredible! Would highly recommend to anyone who loves authentic Italian food.
Avery H — Google review
Super good pizza! The owner was very gracious 👍🏻
Yana — Google review
This place was decided upon since it had good Google reviews, was close, and was quick. The food was delicious and our waitress (the owner's wife) was welcoming and sweet. The owner (who is from Italy) also came over and spoke with us. They didn't speak a lot of English but I had a delightful conversation with them in German that made our visit memorable. The only problem I had was that my drink (a Hugo cocktail) basically just tasted like a wine spritzer, but I drank it anyway. I love that this is a local place from an actual Italian and would probably go back again if given the chance.
Kira Z — Google review
Great welcoming place for the family, all hungry (especially with 2 growing boys!) nice to have an authentic Italian pizza (has other dishes) as a break from the tasty austro/germanic food. Salvatore was a super host, great personality, funny and very accommodating. The pizza was delicious very tasty! Would definitely return if we had more days

Restaurant
Nestled in a charming garden setting, Restaurant Ritterstuben offers an authentic Bavarian dining experience that is sure to delight your taste buds. This hidden gem serves up classic dishes like schnitzel and spaetzle, alongside seasonal specials that showcase local flavors. The rustic dining rooms create a cozy atmosphere where you can enjoy meals made with fresh ingredients. For those with dietary restrictions, such as celiac disease, the staff at Ritterstuben are incredibly accommodating and knowledgeable about gluten-free options.
Really enjoyed this restaurant. I was looking for a place that served gluten free items after 8pm. This restaurant has a separate GF menu which makes it much easier to select your items. I had the turkey schnitzel (without cream sauce) and subbed the sparezel (a Bavarian pasta) for fries. My husband had the Tirolerschnitzel which he said was very good - it looked delicious! We also had a side salad and the Kaiserschmarren, a GF pancake with applesauce. Excellent dinner. Server was very efficient. WCs are clean. I do recommend!
Shannon E — Google review
Such a lovely restaurant! We stumbled across this place in the adorable town of Füssen and were warmly welcomed by our waitress and the atmosphere. Sitting in the garden area was very pretty as well. We enjoyed some turkey, spätzle, leberkäse, and much more. The Radler drink was also super refreshing. If you’re staying in Füssen, I promise you’ll enjoy this restaurant!

Amazing meal tonight. I had the pork tenderloin with cheese pasta. This was literally 3 pan seared pork tenderloin medallions with caramelized onions and gravy over a bed of amazing Mac and cheese. So much flavor. Large portion and very fair price. I would definitely eat here again.
Steve C — Google review
A Bavarian Gem in Füssen Dining at Ritterstuben was an absolute delight! From the moment we walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere set the tone for an unforgettable evening. The Brätknödelsoup was rich and flavorful, a true comfort on a chilly night. The Schweinswürstel mit Sauerkraut und Bratkartoffeln was perfectly seasoned and authentically Bavarian, while the Schweinsmedaillons in Pfefferrahmsauce were tender and expertly cooked, with a sauce that was simply divine. The service was impeccable – attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. The ambiance? Pure Gemütlichkeit! It felt like a cozy embrace of Bavarian tradition, with every detail enhancing the experience. A heartfelt thank you to the team at Ritterstuben for a five-star dining experience. We’ll definitely be back! Regards from Table #12

Waited 20 minutes for just a soft drink. Waited 30 minutes for just a plate of sausages. Only around 4 tables of customers were dining.

The food and drink here were very good. And much cheaper than was the same sort of fare in Munich. We had dinner on an early August evening when many, many tourists were in town. The restaurant was not at all overcrowded. We appreciated the variety on the menu and the excellent preparation of our meal and drinks.
Mike W — Google review
We read the reviews on Google and decided to go. Unfortunately it didn't go as planned and we didn't enjoy our food, service was ok, but the food was expensive and regular at most. The tomato soup was warm tomato sauce out of the can with nothing on it, not the pictures, the fish was ok, the Tiroler Schnitzel was not the worst and the pork tenderloin wasn't good either. I think it is the worst German food and I have been visiting and living in Germany for the last 8 years. so I wouldn't recommend this place at all.
Caroll S — Google review
Had the tomato cream soup, creamy spinach spaghetti and the local special which is the meat, egg and potatoes (gebratner lerberkas, something like that) Service was great and server was friendly. Knew we weren’t local and gave us an English menu instead. Do take note their seasonal special menu is only in German, prepare Google translate if you wanna try something in season. Other than that, feel free to ask them in English too, they will be able to recommend their specials.

Italian restaurant
Pizza restaurant
Peperoncino Pizza e Cucina is a charming retro trattoria in Fussen, offering an extensive menu of antipasti, pasta, and pizzas along with a selection of Italian wines. The restaurant specializes in traditional Italian cuisine, particularly from the Lucania region. With its modest yet inviting ambiance, it's a must-visit for lovers of authentic Italian food.
Chill place with good food. Had the pepper pasta, was great. Only little thing that kinda was a bummer was that we asked for water and got a tiny water bottle. That may or may not be due to my bad German but nobody else had a proper jug of water or anything so I'm gonna say that's just how it is. Otherwise, good service, good food and good prices!

Husband and I came to town for the day. Stopped by this place twice in one day because the service and food. Great gentleman working the establishment, wonderful food, and a cozy atmosphere. We will definitely be back to visit when we are in town next.

Really enjoyed the food but it was really hot and there were flies in the restaurant that disrupted the meal. Looked like the only good place to visit in Fussen
C C — Google review
Slow service! 12€ for some penne without any toppings, sauce nor taste. Tourist trap. Avoid at any cost!
ரவி ந — Google review
It wasn't tasty. Just food. Very boring food like spaghetti. Good for an ordinary bistro, but not for a restaurant with such prices. And a very arrogant waiter - it's not cool. Tiramisu wasn't tasty too. Too greasy.
Svetlana C — Google review
Average food. Below average service. We ordered a Calzone and Gorgonzola Pizza. The Calzone was pretty unusual containing egg, picked peppers with ham and cheese, but I guess that was my fault for not translating the menu! The pizza was pretty greasy and didn’t feel authentic. We decided to order the Nutella pizza expecting an extravagant chocolate treat..... After being ignored by the staff who were either eating food at the bar or in there phones we eventually ordered. The Nutella pizza turned out to be just a pizza base, with a few squirts of Nutella and dusted sugar. Pretty average at best. The staff were friendly enough when they were paying attention; and the restaurant itself seemed pretty nice. I wouldn’t rush back there.
Sean — Google review
In the end, we didn’t eat here because of the absolutely rude service. We were here with a large family with small children. I have allergies and gluten intolerance, and small children cannot eat one whole pizza and we wanted to order 2-3 pizzas. If we liked it, we would have ordered more, but! The waiter forced us to take one pizza for each person or leave! How can girls of three and seven years old eat a whole pizza? I will never recommend this place to anyone!
