Is Arutas beach, located on the west side of Sardinia, stands out for its exceptional quartz sand that glows in various colors when the sun shines. The multi-colored sand extends for several kilometers and reflects brilliant blues on the water. Accessible through an uninhabited village, this picturesque beach is worth the effort to reach. Its extensive white gravelly sands are made up of tiny grains of different colored quartz, giving it a shimmering quality that cannot be matched.
The water was crystal clear. Perfect for snorkelling and just enjoying the underwater life. Full of 🐠🐟Beautiful quartz covered beach and azure blue sea. It is so serene and peaceful even though it was crowded becauae it was high season💙 There is a parking nearby, restaurants and bars.
Milena K — Google review
Way too crowded (August 2025), steep descent into the sea, not the cleanest one, showers with sea water. Rice sand is just perfect, the best I have ever experienced
Oleksandr T — Google review
Is Arutas Beach is truly unique, with its white quartz sand and crystal-clear waters. Easy access with nearby parking, and the beach is also wheelchair friendly. A rare and exceptional spot to relax, swim, and enjoy unforgettable views.
Nidhal Z — Google review
Arrived early in the morning around 9.30. Payed parking not cheap. 8.50euro for 6 hours or 10 euro for the all day. From the parking there à several paths to walk. The one nicer than the other with a small bridge to pass. Today no beach garde and no marking of the safe swimming area. The beach was today after the big rain and thunder showers à little bit mixed with dry grass. There are a lot of rocks, small and big to take care of. Even for your parasol you have to find the right spot to dig into the risotto liked small stone beach. The sea was calm and enough places to install yourself. Overall an ok beach. Don’t forget to follow the local restrictions of the Sardinia beaches with big fines.
Ronald V — Google review
A white coarse grain quartz “sand” beach. Quite special. The water is very clear and we enjoyed swimming in it. The waves weren’t too big although you get deep very quickly. There are showers to get the salt and the sand off. We came by bike so parking wasn’t a cost or problem. If to go further south along the dirt road then the parking is free.
Simon R — Google review
A stunning beach with crystal-clear water and surreal colors that seem almost unreal. The shoreline is covered with unique quartz "rice-grain" sand that gives the place a magical appearance and feels great underfoot. The sand is made of tiny, polished grains of quartz, giving it a distinctive white, pink, and green appearance. It’s a paradise for nature lovers and perfect for a peaceful day by the sea. *Heads-up:* As the sun begins to set, be prepared — the mosquitoes come out in full force and they don’t hold back! Bring repellent if you plan to stay late.
Mihai M — Google review
The best beach in the Sinis' peninsula. Cristal clear waters and the sand is made of white quartz. It gets busy. Best time to visit and get a nice spot are early morning or late afternoon. I recommend watching the sunsets.
Giovan C — Google review
Absolutely loved Arutas Beach! Easy to reach with convenient parking and even showers available. The beach itself is stunning, crystal clear water, amazing views, but not many waves. Definitely worth a visit

Spiaggia di Mari Ermi is a hidden gem located in the Gulf of Oristano and the marine area of Sinis Peninsula in Sardinia. It stands out with its unique soft dunes, peculiar rice-like sand, and coastal Mediterranean bush. The beach is surrounded by a silver pond that hosts various bird species. Visitors can enjoy surfing, diving, snorkeling, running along the shore, and indulging in delicious Sardinian cuisine at nearby restaurants.
Pure clear water. It’s not crowded. The parking is close to the beach. The fish restaurant Sole e Mare is tasted with fresh fish.

The beach is dirty! Noting exotic , not children or dog friendly. I don't recommend visiting it. Never will back there!

I got a fine for parking my motorcycle on a gravel lot. There are a lot more beaches that are more beautiful and parking is free.

Very nice beach and definitely a better option than the famous Is Arutas. The sea is beautiful, the parking lot is really big and there is a restaurant and some showers as well. Very good option for the families

It is one of the most favorite beaches in the Oristano area, famous for its hard white sand and the possibility of vary water sports. The parking is for fee and the restaurants nearby are not really good. I suggest you rather visit some local restaurants in Oristano or Cabras

Amazing ancient building left almost completely unguarded. It’s a shame that such a monument doesn’t get the care it deserves. Some remarkable artistic reproductions inside, also totally neglected.

Historical place
Area archeologica di Tharros is a captivating archaeological site located on the western coast of Sardinia. It was once a bustling city built by Phoenician and Punic cultures, and now stands as a testament to the island's rich history. The well-preserved ruins include ancient temples, thermal baths, residential quarters, and even remnants of an amphitheater and circus overlooking the sea.
The historical significance is great, but it also helps that it is a beautiful location with great viewpoints. There is currently an effort to add more signage that was not yet completed in May 2025, this will be a nice improvement. I’d recommend reading up on the history and use before visiting.
Kirsten M — Google review
It was extremely interesting! Staff is very kind and helpful, provides with free brochures that explain the area and the archaeological ruins. The place is very well kept and taken care of. The view from the top is amazing, absolutely worth visiting. There's beaches in the area and at least 3 bar/restaurants on the coast, for refreshments. ➡️ there's a little walk up from the paid parking area but nothing too hard, and two free potable water fountains on the walkway.
Cristina P — Google review
It’s not clear online you have to pay for everything. Parking is 3€ for 2h or 5€ for 5h. It’s a short walk up to the ticket office, passing some nice beaches. All the ruins are fenced off (and there’s currently a bunch of construction going on). There is a 5€ train-car tour on top of the entrance fee (4€ for tower and 9€ for the rest summer prices), 30min to see all the sights. We’re here on a hiking holiday and hoped we could walk around, not enter a tourist trap. Not worth it for us!
Jasmin F — Google review
It is well worth the visit to learn about the ancient city that lasted for many centuries before and after the Romans. There is an app to download so you can have a commentary in your language. It is very informative. Some of the best ruins were the bathhouses, which show that they took hygiene very seriously. Great view back to the tower and out to sea. Interesting to learn about the water and sewage system of the time. It was much like it is for us now.
Simon R — Google review
A not yet fully excavated archaelogoical site, like an open air Museum, you can walk around, touch the stones, walk on Roman roads and travel back through the layers of history to the Broze age. What is there not to love? Oh and its on a majestic piece of land jutting out into the ocean. I didn't walk the whole Peninsula with the little ones but sure it would make a lovely hike.
1i1ianGo — Google review
Parking for this attraction is a short uphill walk away. We parked near the restaurants and paid by card after entering our registration details—nice and straightforward. Upon arrival, we paid for entry and were directed toward the entrance. While the site itself is interesting, we quickly noticed that none of the artefacts had any descriptions or information, which made it difficult to fully appreciate what we were seeing. Our visit lasted no more than 40 minutes. There is a new shop under construction, and hopefully, with time, the site will see further improvements. Overall, it has the potential to be a much more engaging experience, but currently feels like it lacks the investment and detail that could make it truly memorable.
Wesley S — Google review
Time feels slower in Tharros. Walking among ruins that go back almost 4,000 years — from the Nuragic people to Phoenicians, Carthaginians, and Romans — you sense how history still lingers in the stones. The views of the sea are breathtaking, and the atmosphere is calm and reflective. It’s not just an archaeological site, it’s a journey through layers of time. Highly recommend visiting if you’re in Sardinia.

Museo Civico Giovanni Marongiu in Cabras is a cultural gem showcasing the famous Giants of Monte Prama, towering nuraghic stone sculptures. The museum offers well-curated displays of local artifacts dating back to 3500 BCE, providing thorough explanations and insights into the region's history. Visitors can also opt for a combo ticket with access to the Tharros tower site, located about 10 km away.
Super interesting small museum filled with giant statues. Helpful staff who gave us a tour in English. Amazing archaeological finds from 8 centuries pre-Christ. Incredible. Dogs welcome in most areas except the statue hall.
Emma V — Google review
The staff here are very proud and rightly so. The museum is small but packed with interesting relics and atefacgs. We particularly enjoyed the shipwreck exhibit and of course the giants. Amazing! Worth a detour to visit. The staff member with short, curly brown hair was particularly enthusiastic and helpful.
Julie J — Google review
Most informative on all the important archeological sites and treasures recovered. The staff are very willing to describe in detail (in English) all about the various pieces. It is a small museum which is undergoing expansion therefore when we visited in September 2025 the giant statues were in a temporary location. We still could stand next to them. Impressive.
Simon R — Google review
Well organised, archeological museum detailing the history of the Monte Prama civilization. A separate room showcases statues of the Giants. Very informative and enjoyable visit, asked by the explanation of local experts. Really recommended.
Sere L — Google review
Fascinating museum celebrating prehistoric art and the accident world. Building is undergoing extensive development so in mid 2026 there will be more modern facilities and more on display, particularly the number of giants.
Dominic W — Google review
Centrally located, onsite parking, no need to prebook tickets. Interesting collection, highlight is the giganti section (small but interesting) eur9 p/p if taken as a single entry or can combine with some other attraction. Time allocation 30-45 mins.
Kumar — Google review
We think it's time to add information in English, since the European Union even is a sponsor. It's not very welcoming for tourists from abroad. Especially because there's no wifi so translate apps didn't work. So one or the other would have been very welcome. Furthermore it's a nice but small museum with friendly staff.
Annemarie B — Google review
Small museum, not too far from where the giants were discovered. Unfortunately most of the info is in Italian, and even if there are few QR codes to some info in English, it’s not exhaustive. You could try using Google Translate camera to do the translation - I tried with limited success. It became very tedious mostly due to the necessity to read it all on the phone screen...

Seafood restaurant
Da Attilio Is Aruttas is a charming restaurant with stunning beach views, offering authentic Sardinian cuisine. The menu may be small, but the quality of the food is exceptional. It's advisable to make reservations in advance as they prepare limited portions. The restaurant serves delicious pasta and BBQ fish, and their lemon sorbet is delightful. While it's not a high-end dining experience, the service is great and the staff are friendly.
The restaurant is located right at the beach and naturally gets quite crowded during lunch time as it’s the only place to eat around. For the same reason it’s obviously overpriced. Despite all that and overall atmosphere (which is of course not for everybody) the food was great, the wine was served in glasses and everything came fast! We were pleased in the end.
Anna S — Google review
If you arrive in the morning, I highly recommend you reserve a table for lunch, because they do get very busy being the only option in the immediate area. It was nice that they have bathrooms that are free to use. The food was just ok, but we were glad to get it since there were no other close options.
Darren J — Google review
3.8 rating is probably about there. They are the only restaurant fronting the beach so they can pretty much charge and sell whatever they like. The restaurant was full for the month of May and the bar attached was having great business. The food was excellent though the prawns were not that fresh. The pasta vongole was my favourite and the grilled fish done very well. All in all you are paying for paper plates and plastic cups which should not be the case. The staff could be more enthusiastic with Asians as you can see the difference in service attitudes.
Jeremy C — Google review
We visited this informal restaurant literally on the beach, and had for lunch excellent seafood - a cold seafood platter as a starter, and Pasta Calamarita as the main, and all was very very good. The staff were attentive and friendly.
Mirek M — Google review
The restaurant makes a good impression at first glance. But not so good at second and third and fourth etc. First the good: The food looks good and tastes good too. The waiters are friendly and know what they are doing. Now for the not so good things: The menu is very small and at the prices (€25 for a fish plate without a side dish (costs another €6) you shouldn't have to eat from a paper plate. The dish does come on a porcelain plate, but this is only the serving plate. The bread served is so dry that you can't eat it without a drink (probably intentional so that you drink more). The coffee afterwards is served in a paper cup with a plastic spoon. The toilets should be renovated and a toilet seat would also be great. It's a shame that they take advantage of being the only restaurant on the beach and that as a guest you have no choice but to accept what you get.
Thomas D — Google review
The food was not bad. However, at 14:00 (end of June) the place was really full and extremely loud. The staff looked and acted overworked and visibly irritated. The menu was really limited (3 main dishes). The worst were paper plates, plastic cups and oil and vinegar in plastic packets which gave it a Macdonalds vibe, especially for Italian cuisine! At least the cutlery was metal. Do not recommend.
Olga S — Google review
I tried to walk in to get a drink at 2:40 today and was sharply scolded that the establishment was closed. We were told in a rude manner to get in our car and leave. There were plenty of people still in the restaurant and I understand it closes at 3, but there was no need to refuse customers in such a hostile way when we would have quickly just bought a drink.

Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Piazza Eleonora d'Arborea, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Marine Protected Area Peninsula of Sinis - Isola di Mal di Ventre. All together, your day would be filled with about 6 hours of non-stop fun.

Piazza Eleonora d'Arborea is a captivating hub in Oristano, showcasing the city's rich history and vibrant culture. This elegant square features an impressive marble monument dedicated to the revered Giudicessa Eleonora d'Arborea, symbolizing her significant role in Sardinian heritage. Surrounding the piazza are remarkable architectural gems like the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, dating back to the 1200s, and the neoclassical Church of St.

It's reasonably well kept but I've never really seen very much to do there and at the weekend it's like a ghost town. I have always felt that MORE could be done with Oristano -if only someone REALLY wanted to. Instead, the locals wake up once a year for the archaic (and possibly cruel) performing horse show of the "Sartiglia" and then swiftly return to their slumbers shortly after...

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta, also known as the Duomo di Oristano, is the largest cathedral in Sardinia and a popular attraction in Oristano. Its origins date back to around 1130 and it was built within a Paleo-Byzantine structure. The cathedral has undergone various renovations due to poor conditions, with its construction reflecting Romanesque style.
Beautiful!!! One of the nicer cathedrals I’ve seen.

The cathedral is absolutely gorgeous. It's pleasant enough outside with its facade & tower ... ... but inside it is stunningly beautiful. Each chapel is tastefully decorated in a different style.
David S — Google review
We walked around the corner from Hotel Duomo to the Cathedral of Santa Maria - this was fabulous, built in the twelfth century and then remodelled in the eighteenth. Not the usual gaudy Catholic display but muted colours, very limited gilding and a really nice atmosphere with some beautiful artworks. I couldn't see how to access the bell tower though which was a shame.
Marcus H — Google review
After visiting hundreds of churches and temples and cathedrals and ruins, I get a bit cynical, but this one really touched me. You could really feel the love of God that went into its craftsmanship, and it's gorgeous.
Norm Y — Google review
Beautiful cathedral. This is beauty art as well a place to rest. Definitely a must see.
Jerome G — Google review
Didn't eat, BUT! The only place open and in the sun, next to the cathedral. We wanted some antipasti before dinner a bit later. They didn't serve antipasti, but the kind waiter said they served complimentary snack with drinks. It was a big serving and the wine was good, the price good too. Thanx! :) And the baobab seeds sold by the nice Senegali man, hope they grow. 🫶

Beach
Spiaggia di Capo San Marco is an enchanting beach located on a peninsula, which also houses the renowned Sardinian archaeological site, Tharros. While there is an entrance fee of 5 units to visit Tharros, it should be noted that the site might not offer much in terms of attractions. Nevertheless, one should venture to this beach as it offers a delightful stroll around the magnificent San Giovanni tower and the captivating Capo San Marco lighthouse.
For me personally the most beautiful beach in (south) Sardinia. Parking does cost you but this seems to be the norm for most of Sardinia. If you manage the steep walk from the parking spot past the archeological site (10-15 minutes) you are greeted by a beautiful and pretty quiet beach. The water was very clear during our stay and the beach itself even has some somewhat secluded spots to get some peace and quiet. The ground underwater is mostly sandy but at some points there are rocks that have collapsed into the water, so you can even find some fish. The sand is very very fine. Of course it therefore relentlessly sticks everywhere and is hard to get rid of. It is also a great place to watch the sunset! After sundown there are a lot of mosquitos between you and the car park. Between the beach and the car park are restrooms.
Robert F — Google review
This was one of the absolute highlights of our stay in Sardinia. You can escape the crowds on other beaches here, enjoy peace and tranquillity, and have a whole stretch of beach 'all to yourself'. Admittedly, there are no toilets or restaurants, and you have to walk 10–15 minutes from the car park, but it was definitely worth it.

Spiaggia di Funtana Meiga is a part of the Sinis marine protected area and offers free access with no option to rent sunbeds or umbrellas. The beach features soft white sand and shallow waters, making it suitable for children. Accessing the beach may be a bit challenging due to steep stairs cut into the earth along several paths. It's known for its changing landscape and is ideal for those seeking a quiet, wild beach experience with perfect sunsets.
We loved this beach.

One of the most beautiful beaches I've been, situated in a quiet and cozy village. Follow the road till the end, park the car (you will pay), then between pine trees you will find a 3 minutes path to the beach. I think it's the best beach in Oristano area.

Funtana Beach is a beautiful waterfront with soft white sand and shallow waters. The water stays shallow for quite some time, so it's perfect for children. The only difficulty with this beach is getting down to it. There are several paths that lead to steep stairs cut into the earth going down to the beach, so be careful

Sardinian restaurant
The Craf Da Banana Restaurant in Oristano is a great spot for traditional Sardinian dishes, like non-seafood dishes. It's popular in the autumn and winter months, as the mosquitoes aren't too bad during those times. The food is good and the service can be slow at times, but it's worth it for a delicious meal.
It was a wonderful lunch experience with very professional service, excellent wine, and top-notch dishes. The food was beautifully presented and extremely tasty. We would love to come back!

We had a amazing experience here. Coziest of brick cellar restaurant. Romantic vibe delux. The food was extra ordinary. We pre booked the suckling pig. But got some appetizers and dessert. 100 out of 10.!! The best resturante so far 5 weeks in Sardinia!

Amazing place! Can highly recommend to visit! The food is absolutely excellent – every dish was a real experience. Gianluca provided truly personalized service and attention, offering the best recommendations that made our evening even more special. The venue itself is beautiful and full of character. A perfect combination of great atmosphere, outstanding food, and exceptional hospitality! P.S. Try their homemade pasta! We shared it a starter but still regret about not having a full portion for each ☺️
Lana T — Google review
Craf da Banana is one of the city’s top-rated restaurants, and it lived up to the reputation when we visited. The dining room is rustic and welcoming, with exposed beams, shelves lined with wine bottles, and a refrigerator displaying impressive cuts of aged meat. Throughout the night, sizzling platters of beef were carried past tables, filling the room with an irresistible aroma. The menu highlights Sardinian ingredients with both tradition and creativity. I started with homemade linguini topped with red prawns, zucchini flowers, and shaved Sardinian truffles it was fresh, rich, and perfectly balanced. My second course was mullet fillet, cleverly plated to look like it was swimming, topped with a melted pecorino crust that added both flavor and flair. For dessert, I had seadas: a deep-fried dumpling stuffed with tangy pecorino and lemon peel, drizzled with honey. It was just sweet enough, with the cheese adding a savory edge. The service was attentive and friendly, even though the staff were busy turning away walk-ins all night. Our server took the time to explain both dishes and wines. We ended with glasses of Mirto. Craf da Banana is popular for good reason. Make a reservation, savor the food, and enjoy one of Oristano’s best dining experiences.

Wow! This place is faultless ! It is the kind of restaurant that is the go-to especially for meat lovers, but the fish is also very good. We had the mixed starters, an incredible selection of meats and vegetables , ranging from beef carpaccio to aubergine with lardo, to pecorino sardo fried in pane carasau, to a meat that was stewed for hours, similar to brisket but 20000 times better, moist, tender , so flavourful. There were fiori di zucca as well, fried in a light batter, as light as the best tempura. We also had the pasta with wild boar ragù, the fregola with fiori di zucca, and the culurgiones with a pecorino sardo cream and truffle sauce, followed by by Porceddu, and the Donkey meat with fiori di zucca sauce. All of them absolutely divine! To finish we had the seadas with 2 types of artisanal honey, and the Filindeu croccante, another delight . We ended with a digestive “banana” liqueur, a house speciality, and a limoncello as well! A perfect meal with faultless service and great , fantastic food ! I want to go back already ! Book as the place is tiny and you would curse yourself if they don’t let you in because they are full !

Probably the best restaurant in town. Service can be slow. Star dishes were their pork dish; basil cream pasta with smoked mullet and their cookies! We told them their mullet with pane curasau crust was dry and bland. We left most of the fish on the plate. They noted our comments and kindly took the dish off the bill. Really nice staff.

It's a nice place, like so many other in Oristano. The service should be better, they seem to be always upset of something. 😀 Good food, but not my taste. Oven patatoes are reheated... the fish I served had the bowels inside, maybe this is the way to be served and I am an ignorant. Search deep to find italian spirit.

Pizza restaurant
Funtana Meiga is a delightful bar situated right by the beach, making it an ideal spot for those looking to unwind with good food and stunning views. Open from 8:30 AM until midnight, it caters to early diners as well as late-night snackers. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, perfect for enjoying a meal after a day in the sun.
Located next to the beach this bar offers also good food options. They have open from 8.30 until 24.00, so if you prefer to have dinner early, this is your chance. Service was friendly but a little bit unorganized, the menu we had to fetch by ourselves. But finally we could order after some waving 😀 We had Caprese and an octopus, followed by linguine with tuna and Sesam and a Pizza quattro Stagioni. All was of good quality, prices are low. One last tip: in the evening you should inside, otherwise you will be eaten up by mosqitos 😀

Shame to have a bad restaurant on a lovely beach. Miserable staff and poorly organised. One elderly woman with red haira working at the bar at the cashier in particular was very abrupt and unhelpful. Rudely interrupted us ordering at the bar to serve other people even though she was in the middle of taking our order. We struggled to understand the takeaway system as she took our order but there was no taking of a ticket or asking our name or anything, so it was very unclear how they would know it was our order when it was ready. We asked repeatedly and she didn't answer us clearly. When we tried to ask another member of staff she rudely shouted "I've taken their order". We had to ask another member of staff who said she would bring it to us. Don't know how it would have worked if we hadn't personally coraled a waitress. Finally after a long wait it turned out the woman with glasses never sent our order to the kitchen. The other waitress was very apolagetic but it didn't make up for the lack of profesionalism from her colleague who never even sent our order to the kitchen. Atmosphere is flat and joyless. They brought us a replacement order with the waitress apologising again. The food was nice but I would say not very generous for the money. We didn't try the other beach bar at Maimoni but would recommend people giving that place a chance.

Spiaggia Corríghias is a stunning beach that boasts beautiful quartz sand, resembling tiny pearls under the sun. The crystal-clear waters are perfect for snorkeling enthusiasts, as the underwater world is teeming with fish and vibrant vegetation. While the shore offers shallow areas ideal for children to play safely, be mindful of rocky sections that can lead to deeper waters just a few meters out. This picturesque spot also provides breathtaking sunsets that will leave you in awe.

Spiaggia Su Zinnibiri is a special beach that is definitely worth a visit. It offers both paid and free parking options, but visitors are reminded not to take the sand with them. This is the worst beach I’ve ever encountered. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else. The water is dirty and shallow, you can’t swim or snorkel. We are in the middle of nowhere but for this reason it is a paradise. Only note: there is no camping (no feet, chairs, tables, verandas, etc...) but only parking. I rightly advise you to respect this rule otherwise they will take away this corner of paradise from us. In case of mistral, like the entire west coast, the wind prevents you from going to the beach and the sea becomes a paradise for surfing. Last but not least, every day street vendors pass by selling excellent pecorino and other typical products that are worth trying.

During my travels in Sardinia, I had the pleasure of dining at Maimoni Cafè on two occasions, and it quickly became a highlight of my culinary journey. The food was consistently fresh and bursting with flavor, making each meal memorable. The owners and staff were incredibly welcoming, adding to the overall charm of the place. I particularly enjoyed their octopus salad, pasta with sausage, and swordfish—each dish showcasing a delightful blend of local ingredients.
Went there two times while I was in Sardinia. The food was always super flavourful and fresh. The owners and the waitress were very nice to us. My favorite plates were the octopus salad, the pasta with sausage and the swordfish. The menu varies weekly (I believe) but is varied enough that you will always find something that is up to your liking. We always had our meal outside and the trees offer a beautiful environment and shade.

We were looking for a panino but they didn’t have it so we ended up having seated lunch. Delicious food, absolutely recommending and walking distance to a wonderful beach!

Unfortunately, my experience here was very disappointing. The hosts were shockingly rude and unprofessional, which really set a negative tone. The food was mediocre at best. The restaurant tries to present itself as upscale, but between the worn-out furniture and the lack of basic courtesy, it falls far short. I wouldn’t return.

Friendly place - delicious prawns!! Close to the beach so whenever you are hungry it is a handy place. Quite a large place too, with outdoor seating. The lady was about to close up for end of lunch, but we walked in and she was kind enough to ask the chef to whip us a bite to eat. Very accomodating.

Sole E Mare is a delightful dining spot that truly captures the essence of coastal cuisine. Nestled in a picturesque location, this restaurant offers an array of fresh and delicious dishes, including standout options like crab pasta, grilled shrimp, and an enticing antipasti mix that showcases local flavors. The Sardinian specialties are particularly noteworthy; the riso venere with lemon zest and the simple yet flavorful crogoristas are must-tries.
The food was delicious and fresh - we had the crab pasta, octopus and potato, salad and grilled shrimp. It is a bit more expensive than your typical restaurant but this is expected due to the location! The staff was friendly and they helped us translate the menu from the board - it was all in Italian but I assume it’s because most people were local. The service was fast. The only thing to improve on is the toilet - it is very old and was dirty, it needs some attention. Apart from that minor detail I would recommend.
Viktoriya Y — Google review
Casual but nice restaurant with AMAZING food. We went for lunch and had the antipasti mix recommended by the waiter (basically small portions of every appetizer). We chose sardinian dishes as our mains; the riso venere had a lovely lemon zest which made the dish super fresh aling with the buratta and tuna, and the crogoristas was simple but super delicious. The Sardas came ontop of a fresh slice of orange and a citrus zest (can totally be shared for 2). Overall a fantastic suprise and one of the best meals we had in Sardinia. Our waiter was lovely and super attentive, plus a very child friendly environment as well! Absolutely a 5/5 and worth eating at👌

Great location next to the beach with a nice view. Service was nice and food was tasty. But the amount and price of food were overpriced. One mullet (muggini) cost 13.5€ and it's not by weight, just 1 piece and quite small. 1 sepia = 9.5€ after grill becomes really very small... quite visible on the pictures, considering that in the city you can buy 1 mullet for 3€... So you pay more for the place rather than for the food. Prices in the end of July, maybe out of high season it's better...🤷🏻‍♀️
Yuliya M — Google review
The staff was a bit arrogant. No printed menus, dishes were written on a board with prices, only in Italian. The waiter poorly translated the dishes, so we didn't really know what we were ordering. The tuna steak was very bad and tasteless, the squid was so so, and the grilled Muggine fish was good but a bit too salty. The pomodoro pasta was not the best (the tomato sauce was not very tasty). The house wine was okay. Value for money: 1.5 out of 5.

I strongly suggest the Antipasti mix for those interested in trying small portions of different Antipasti. The grilled menu is also amazing and location is perfect. Note: Make sure you reserve your spot before Lunch/Dinner in advance, they get full quickly.

Chiesa di San Francesco is a centuries-old church located in the historic center of Oristano. The church boasts a marvelous and spacious interior adorned with numerous famous artworks and sculptures, including the renowned 14th century wooden sculpture of Crocifisso di Nicodemo. Originally built in Catalan/Gothic style, the church underwent a Renaissance transformation after a partial collapse in the sixteenth century. Adjacent to the church is the convent where Conventual Friars Minor reside.

Pleasant church in the centre of Oristano. It is officiated by Franciscan monks who have lived in the adjacent monastery since 1253.
David S — Google review
(Translated by Google) Adjacent to the Church of San Francesco it houses the Franciscan fathers. The convent of San Francesco mentioned in the will of the judge of Arborea Ugone II in 1335. The building witnessed important historical moments in the political and religious life of the Giudicato of Arborea: in fact, the highest authorities of the friars used to meet in the refectory of the friars Kingdom of Arborea, and in the same hall the peace treaty was signed in 1388 between Eleonora and the Catalan-Aragonese king John I the Soccer player. Unfortunately, the vast complex, after almost six centuries, lost cohesion and consistency and disappeared almost entirely with the complete transformation, due to the new construction between 1835 and 1838. The famous crucifix, known as the Nicodemus crucifix, is placed in a particular place in the church. It is a polychrome sculpture believed to be mainly from the Valencian school and certainly inspired by the Rhine. The crucifix is ascribed to the tragic and torn type and of the most heartbreaking agony, which the nascent German Expressionism also spread in Spain. Venerated on September 14th for the festival and fair on the occasion of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, the crucifix can be dated to the first half of the 1300s, perhaps brought to Oristano from Tuscany. At the beginning of the 19th century the Gothic church threatened to collapse and in 1834 it was completely rebuilt. The task of carrying out the work was given to the Cagliari-born architect Gaetano Cima who, in reconstructing it, used the neo-classical style and was inspired by the Pantheon in Rome, building a pronaos with 4 columns on the outside and on the inside, as well to the main altar and a small semicircular choir, 4 high chapels and 2 false and low chapels. On 22 May 1855, as a result of the "law of suppression" of religious orders, part of the convent and its furnishings were confiscated by the State Property Office. The monastery, on 24 August 1866, was occupied by the Military District and the adjacent garden was given as a free concession to the religious people who continued to officiate at the church, but living in private homes. In January 1875 the Franciscans redeemed the small infirmary of the convent and settled there. They still remain in the convent church today: The crucifix of Nicodemus; A marble statue of the Holy Bishop Basilio (a work by Nino Pisano from the 14th century); An altarpiece from the retable by Pietro Cavaro (Saint Francis receiving the stigmata); A silver processional cross (from the Oristano workshop of 1300, with Sienese influences); A reliquary (from an Oristano workshop from 1456); Parts of an altarpiece (dated 1602) by Bartolomeo Castagnola from Castelfranco Veneto; Other panels are exhibited in the Antiqvarivm Arborense Museum of Oristano and in the National Art Gallery of Cagliari.

(Translated by Google) The church of S. Francesco is annexed to the convent of the Minor Conventuals in the historic center of Oristano; its urban location infra moenia highlights its historical role as the fulcrum of political-cultural life town, a short distance from the cathedral of S. Maria Assunta and the headquarters of the highest authorities of Oristano. At the beginning of the nineteenth century the monumental complex was in an advanced state of decay; the church in 1835 was demolished and (the dome of the building erected between 1836 and 1838 based on a design by Antonio Cano collapsed) rebuilt between 1841 and 1847 under the direction of the architect Gaetano Cima in the canonical forms of Purist classicism. The lower left portion of the façade survives of the ancient church (northwest, m 8.63), in medium-sized trachyte and limestone ashlars; the Franciscan community of Oristano, still active, maintains part of the ancient monastic building and has undertaken an action to recover the structures currently incorporated into the Military District. In the last century it was tradition that the church belonged in origin of a monastery of the Basilian Order; The reliquary with the supposed skull of St. is kept in the Treasury. Basilio, Byzantine silver from the 4th century reworked in the 15th century in an Oristano workshop. They belonged with all probability to the liturgical endowment of S. Francesco some of the codices kept in the cathedral, in particularly the antiphonary and responsorial with Gregorian chant, attributable to the third quarter of the 13th century, with 23 illuminated initials, one of which depicts the saint from Assisi. The establishment of the Franciscan community a Oristano occurred within 1253, but it seems we can ascribe only a few to the first half of the 13th century. wall structures included in the convent building, in particular the section of the two-tone rows of facing trachyte and sandstone, where a single-lancet window opens with an ogival arch with a double conch. In the last quarter of the portal of the cloister dates back to the century, with its pointed arch and diamond-pointed eyebrows, and the other lights recently reported in sight; open in the façade of the monastery towards the cathedral, they are remarkably wide and have a semicircular rib with a large inclined display. Same location chronological order is appropriate for the surviving façade piece, of accentuated Gothic typology. The hoof has a shoe molded; along the edge of the corner pillar there is a small column with a capital with phytomorphic decoration like those of the corner pilasters. The beam columns rest on the plinth, which determined the tripartition into mirrors, of which the left one is visible externally (where traces of the statue there remain stood out) and the middle one, in which the portal opened and was then blocked. Each mirror is concluded by an arch splayed ogival with Gothic mouldings. The left arch is capped at the top by a gabled frame, that one right with an ogival eyebrow, also richly decorated with phytomorphic motifs. (Sardegna Cultura)

Today, I had a very pleasant and impressive reception at Contini Winery. The introduction was exceptional, accompanied by a delightful sampling of their outstanding wines and grappas. The wine tasting itself was both generous and professional, providing me with an opportunity to explore and appreciate the world of wine. The staff's kindness left me astonished; it truly was a remarkable experience in discovering different varieties of wine.
We had a very interesting tour through the Cantina. Carla did an amazing job explaining the history (in 3! different languages) & showing us the various rooms with the barrels. After we tasted the different wines & we can really recommend the Attilio Rose, Giganti Rosso as well as the Vernaccia wine. We bought some of each & can only recommend the Cantina!

We came in without a prior booking. We were curious to try some of their wines. Alberto gave us a small tasting. He was very knowledgeable and generous with his time. We ended up buying two bottles of what he let us try. Thank you!

Cantina Contini was one of the highlights of our time in Sardinia. We booked a technical tour and were welcomed by Andrea, their brand ambassador, who was polished, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about sharing the estate’s history. Founded in 1898, Contini is proud of being Sardinia’s first winery, and that heritage really shows. The tour itself was unforgettable. Andrea slid open a hidden wall to reveal the barrel room, rows of old casks stacked high, one with a glass end so you could see the flor yeast floating on the surface. Down a narrow stairway we entered the bottle library, packed floor to ceiling with vintages dating back to the 1960s. It felt like stepping into a living archive of Sardinian wine. The tasting was equally impressive. We tried a range of wines from bright blends and delicate rosés to powerful reds, but the star was Vernaccia di Oristano, made in a solera-style system that blends current vintages with wines going back generations. Complex, nutty, and sherry-like, it was unlike anything else we tasted on the island. The 1991 Vernaccia was especially memorable: amber, bone dry, with aromas of walnut, caramel, and dried fig. Truly a “meditation wine.” The wines were served with generous plates of pecorino, cured meats, olives, and pane carasau, making the experience even more authentic. Everything about the visit felt genuine, steeped in tradition, yet welcoming and approachable. If you are in Oristano or anywhere nearby, a visit to Cantina Contini is a must. The combination of history, unique wines, and heartfelt hospitality made it an experience we will never forget.

We had a wonderful tasting and tour of this historical winery thanks to our host Carla. She was very attentive in answering our questions, guiding us through the wines and introducing us to the art collaborations behind. Highly recommend!

We had today a very warm welcome and a wonderful introduction with tasting of their excellent wines and grappas. It was a generous and very professional wine tasting, an experience that we would love to repeat next time we come around, and we definitely will! The kindness of the personnel was astonishing, just a wonderful experience in wine exploration! !!!

We had an incredible experience tasting wine today; the lady that served us had a true passion for Sardinian wine and took the time to explain what makes Sardinian wines different. She was also able to give us insights into other local places to visit. A must visit!

OMG Erica so made our visit to this World class winery that much more special! It was an especially hot afternoon on our visit. We had earlier spent the late morning and early afternoon walking around the ancient site of nearby Tharros. We were a little shabby and sweaty when we arrived at the world famous Contini. She greeted us warmly and proceeded to provide a marvelous, actually unbelievable, experience. Besides being able to taste anything the winery had to offer, she showed us behind the scenes, beyond the tasting area, into the production line, the barrel room, introducing us to Mauro ( part of the fourth generation family ownership ). I had read on their website that the cellars we're closed for renovations since last November. Was told they plan to reopen sometime in July. This visit was better than dreamt and we went thinking going in we were actually going to encounter a scaled back experience. Thank You so so much Erica. Actually got a little tear in my eye while writing that last sentence. Yes excellent wines were expected, but oh my.

We had an amazing guided tour & tasting with Erika who explained everything around the grapes, production and end results. Thanks so much for the great experience, we love the wine!

Observation Decks & Towers
Visitors to Tharros ticket office were recommended to prioritize their visit to the Spanish watchtower due to its impending closure for siesta. The tower's observation deck requires a separate ticket, obtainable on-site rather than at the tower itself. After ascending the hill, engaging with Marco, an attendant inside, and ascending further to reach the roof, breathtaking vistas awaited. Positioned strategically on a peninsula, this stunning location served as an early warning system against approaching raiders.
The place is so beautiful and the views are breathtaking. The beach was not crowded at all and there were lots of waves - which was great! There is a parking nearby, minimal amount of money you have to pay is 3 eur for first two hours.
Pia — Google review
The tower is surprisingly small on the inside and hardly seems worth the €4 entry fee as there is nothing inside and the views are just as good from the base of the tower.
Natalya M — Google review
Picturesque view! Perfect spot to watch the sunset — absolutely beautiful and surprisingly quiet (at least in October)
Alyona G — Google review
We were advised at the ticket office of Tharros to visit the Spanish watchtower first as that was shutting for siesta soon. The observation deck has its own ticket so you need to get that from the site as well, not the tower itself. We marched up the hill, chatted to Marco, the guy inside and then climbed to the roof for views. It was a stunning location on a peninsula and you can see why it was positioned there to warn as soon as raiders approached.
Marcus H — Google review
To go up to the tower is 4€, which I didn't want to pay because it's too much for what you actually see. You can perfectly enjoy the viewpoint from the mount. It is totally worth it to go and see the surroundings of the tower. You can also relax for a moment and swim in the beach. It is really appealing!

View is incredibly amazing. Also not all the Spanish towers in Sardinia are open to public as it is this one, it is always nice to have a chance to go inside.

Ristorante Pizzeria Cologò offers extremely tasty cuisine with a wide array of fresh options. The desserts are exceptional and the prices are reasonable. The service is commendable, the establishment is spotless, and the staff is affable. It has an impressive variety of local products and an extensive wine list from the island of Sardinia. The affordability for such high-quality fare is noteworthy. Overall, it's a top-notch Italian restaurant worth giving 5 stars to.

Agriturismo Pinuccia in Cabras is a local trattoria that offers a variety of seafood and meat dishes made with their farm products or the fish caught in the Cabras lagoon. The restaurant also provides accommodation with rooms for overnight stays. Visitors have praised the delicious local dishes and kind hosts, making it a great option for those looking to experience authentic cuisine and hospitality.
Wow…. words cannot describe the experience we had here. This was our last night in Sardegna and one of the most special meals! It felt like we were being hosted by a Sardinian family, and really gave us an authentic experience that was truly once in a lifetime. Food was exceptional, service made us feel at home, and we will definitely be back next time we visit!! Highly recommend if you get a chance to come here, you will not regret!

WOW that was good! I am a vegetarian and usually have to sit through a whole meal with my family waiting for hours for a slice of aubergine and maybe a courgette. This was the opposite. The vegetarian food was delicious, abundant and creative. Some of my family ate meat and fish and they loved their meal as well Everything was fresh and well cooked. We waited quite a bit between courses but you can expect that when a restaurant is full and everything is made with care. I had a wonderful experience and would definitely go back!! The staff was very nice to my mum, who was reduced mobility, and to my children. I would highly recommend it .

Excellent, thank you very much. Accommodated us with our toddler, you can book via whatsup. Super kind hosts. Plenty of food and all local delicious dishes. I we had time to come back - one day!

This place is absolutely amazing and such a unique experience. You must ring doorbell to get in. Family oriented, with the matriarch cooking up old school, fresh, seasonal dishes typical of Sardinia. A kind of secret hidden gem that the locals seem to know about. Type of place that you hope will be around forever. Everything is served family style, at your own table… come hungry. wine list is primarily from the local winery; Contini. Would recommend if you are in Cabras

Absolutely enjoyable visit with local gastronomic delights. Restaurant at first seems closed but there is a buzzer to the left side. Advanced booking by phone or WhatsApp is recommended as the place is fully booked most of the time. Starter comprised of superfresh seafood bites and dishes. Amazingly delicious. We ordered the white house wine which is superb and combines well with the fish and fruits de mer. After this, pasta di Semola with seafood gems. Superfresh and excellent but could be a bit spicy for some. We loved it. Perfectly cooked sea bream to make the Cabras Lake dining experience lodge in your memory forever. The fixed menu finished off with a tasty home made orange ice cake. Service is kind, fast and professional. Pricing is top notch considering the quality and perfect preparation of the servings. Highly recommended as far as we are concerned. Unforgettable.

Nestled in a historic building dating back to 1925, Cocco & Dessì Restaurant offers a delightful dining experience that beautifully blends various styles within its five distinct dining areas, including a stunning glass gazebo. The menu is a celebration of fresh local ingredients, featuring daily catches and vibrant vegetables paired with herb-infused sauces.
We have visited this delightful restaurant many times in the last 15 years and it has never disappointed. The food is always good excellent; superb quality meat and fish prepared superbly. Lovely staff; friendly and helpful. I like the different rooms and seating areas. This visit we ate lunch inside; evenings in the covered terrace area at the back have always been great too. The pizzas are fabulous and the pasta dishes to die for. 10/10! And our well behaved dog was welcome.

Visited this place recently after recommendations from the locals in Oristano. The food was incredible at this restaurant. The service was okay but little slow. However, in fairness the staff were very busy. I would recommend this place.

Excellent service. The food and wine were perfect for celebrating our 31st anniversary. Be sure to ask about the fish of the day.

It was a disappointing visit. We were only given one menu card, so it took us a long time to translate. There weren't enough napkins on the table available. We waited a long time for the dishes. No olive oil was served. The staff was not interested in whether we liked the dishes.

Very Nice restaurant. it has a chic, luxury vibes compared to other restaurants in Oristano. It has a beautiful garden behind which makes atmosphere better. I ordered a piece of steak and I was giant, cost only 20€! For this piece, it was quite cheap. I had also a salad, which came with fancy balsamic bottle and olive oil. I usually don’t eat salad outside but in this place , they carefully selected the salad leaves and they were super clean and fresh! Try this restaurant with your eyes closed ;)
