Is Arutas beach, located on the west side of Sardinia, stands out for its exceptional quartz sand that glows in various colors when the sun shines. The multi-colored sand extends for several kilometers and reflects brilliant blues on the water. Accessible through an uninhabited village, this picturesque beach is worth the effort to reach. Its extensive white gravelly sands are made up of tiny grains of different colored quartz, giving it a shimmering quality that cannot be matched.
The water was crystal clear. Perfect for snorkelling and just enjoying the underwater life. Full of 🐠🐟Beautiful quartz covered beach and azure blue sea. It is so serene and peaceful even though it was crowded becauae it was high season💙 There is a parking nearby, restaurants and bars.
Milena K — Google review
Way too crowded (August 2025), steep descent into the sea, not the cleanest one, showers with sea water. Rice sand is just perfect, the best I have ever experienced
Oleksandr T — Google review
Is Arutas Beach is truly unique, with its white quartz sand and crystal-clear waters. Easy access with nearby parking, and the beach is also wheelchair friendly. A rare and exceptional spot to relax, swim, and enjoy unforgettable views.
Nidhal Z — Google review
Arrived early in the morning around 9.30. Payed parking not cheap. 8.50euro for 6 hours or 10 euro for the all day. From the parking there à several paths to walk. The one nicer than the other with a small bridge to pass. Today no beach garde and no marking of the safe swimming area. The beach was today after the big rain and thunder showers à little bit mixed with dry grass. There are a lot of rocks, small and big to take care of. Even for your parasol you have to find the right spot to dig into the risotto liked small stone beach. The sea was calm and enough places to install yourself. Overall an ok beach. Don’t forget to follow the local restrictions of the Sardinia beaches with big fines.
Ronald V — Google review
A white coarse grain quartz “sand” beach. Quite special. The water is very clear and we enjoyed swimming in it. The waves weren’t too big although you get deep very quickly. There are showers to get the salt and the sand off. We came by bike so parking wasn’t a cost or problem. If to go further south along the dirt road then the parking is free.
Simon R — Google review
A stunning beach with crystal-clear water and surreal colors that seem almost unreal. The shoreline is covered with unique quartz "rice-grain" sand that gives the place a magical appearance and feels great underfoot. The sand is made of tiny, polished grains of quartz, giving it a distinctive white, pink, and green appearance. It’s a paradise for nature lovers and perfect for a peaceful day by the sea. *Heads-up:* As the sun begins to set, be prepared — the mosquitoes come out in full force and they don’t hold back! Bring repellent if you plan to stay late.
Mihai M — Google review
The best beach in the Sinis' peninsula. Cristal clear waters and the sand is made of white quartz. It gets busy. Best time to visit and get a nice spot are early morning or late afternoon. I recommend watching the sunsets.

Absolutely loved Arutas Beach! Easy to reach with convenient parking and even showers available. The beach itself is stunning, crystal clear water, amazing views, but not many waves. Definitely worth a visit

Archaeological museum
Historical place
Area archeologica di Tharros is a captivating archaeological site located on the western coast of Sardinia. It was once a bustling city built by Phoenician and Punic cultures, and now stands as a testament to the island's rich history. The well-preserved ruins include ancient temples, thermal baths, residential quarters, and even remnants of an amphitheater and circus overlooking the sea.
The historical significance is great, but it also helps that it is a beautiful location with great viewpoints. There is currently an effort to add more signage that was not yet completed in May 2025, this will be a nice improvement. I’d recommend reading up on the history and use before visiting.
Kirsten M — Google review
It was extremely interesting! Staff is very kind and helpful, provides with free brochures that explain the area and the archaeological ruins. The place is very well kept and taken care of. The view from the top is amazing, absolutely worth visiting. There's beaches in the area and at least 3 bar/restaurants on the coast, for refreshments. ➡️ there's a little walk up from the paid parking area but nothing too hard, and two free potable water fountains on the walkway.
Cristina P — Google review
It’s not clear online you have to pay for everything. Parking is 3€ for 2h or 5€ for 5h. It’s a short walk up to the ticket office, passing some nice beaches. All the ruins are fenced off (and there’s currently a bunch of construction going on). There is a 5€ train-car tour on top of the entrance fee (4€ for tower and 9€ for the rest summer prices), 30min to see all the sights. We’re here on a hiking holiday and hoped we could walk around, not enter a tourist trap. Not worth it for us!
Jasmin F — Google review
It is well worth the visit to learn about the ancient city that lasted for many centuries before and after the Romans. There is an app to download so you can have a commentary in your language. It is very informative. Some of the best ruins were the bathhouses, which show that they took hygiene very seriously. Great view back to the tower and out to sea. Interesting to learn about the water and sewage system of the time. It was much like it is for us now.
Simon R — Google review
A not yet fully excavated archaelogoical site, like an open air Museum, you can walk around, touch the stones, walk on Roman roads and travel back through the layers of history to the Broze age. What is there not to love? Oh and its on a majestic piece of land jutting out into the ocean. I didn't walk the whole Peninsula with the little ones but sure it would make a lovely hike.
1i1ianGo — Google review
Parking for this attraction is a short uphill walk away. We parked near the restaurants and paid by card after entering our registration details—nice and straightforward. Upon arrival, we paid for entry and were directed toward the entrance. While the site itself is interesting, we quickly noticed that none of the artefacts had any descriptions or information, which made it difficult to fully appreciate what we were seeing. Our visit lasted no more than 40 minutes. There is a new shop under construction, and hopefully, with time, the site will see further improvements. Overall, it has the potential to be a much more engaging experience, but currently feels like it lacks the investment and detail that could make it truly memorable.
Wesley S — Google review
Time feels slower in Tharros. Walking among ruins that go back almost 4,000 years — from the Nuragic people to Phoenicians, Carthaginians, and Romans — you sense how history still lingers in the stones. The views of the sea are breathtaking, and the atmosphere is calm and reflective. It’s not just an archaeological site, it’s a journey through layers of time. Highly recommend visiting if you’re in Sardinia.
Andrzej — Google review

Pure clear water. It’s not crowded. The parking is close to the beach. The fish restaurant Sole e Mare is tasted with fresh fish.

Str. Maimoni, along with the stunning beaches of Arutas and Mari Ermi, offers a distinctive coastal experience in Sardinia. Unlike many other shores that feature calcareous rock formations, this area is characterized by its striking porphyritic granite. The seabed here is adorned with vibrant quartz grains, shaped by extensive chemical evolution and atmospheric influences over time. This enchanting stretch of coastline embodies a wild and untouched beauty that sets it apart from more conventional beach destinations in Sardinia.

Spiaggia di Funtana Meiga is a part of the Sinis marine protected area and offers free access with no option to rent sunbeds or umbrellas. The beach features soft white sand and shallow waters, making it suitable for children. Accessing the beach may be a bit challenging due to steep stairs cut into the earth along several paths. It's known for its changing landscape and is ideal for those seeking a quiet, wild beach experience with perfect sunsets.
We loved this beach.

One of the most beautiful beaches I've been, situated in a quiet and cozy village. Follow the road till the end, park the car (you will pay), then between pine trees you will find a 3 minutes path to the beach. I think it's the best beach in Oristano area.
DSB — Google review
Funtana Beach is a beautiful waterfront with soft white sand and shallow waters. The water stays shallow for quite some time, so it's perfect for children. The only difficulty with this beach is getting down to it. There are several paths that lead to steep stairs cut into the earth going down to the beach, so be careful

Beach
Spiaggia di Capo San Marco is an enchanting beach located on a peninsula, which also houses the renowned Sardinian archaeological site, Tharros. While there is an entrance fee of 5 units to visit Tharros, it should be noted that the site might not offer much in terms of attractions. Nevertheless, one should venture to this beach as it offers a delightful stroll around the magnificent San Giovanni tower and the captivating Capo San Marco lighthouse.
For me personally the most beautiful beach in (south) Sardinia. Parking does cost you but this seems to be the norm for most of Sardinia. If you manage the steep walk from the parking spot past the archeological site (10-15 minutes) you are greeted by a beautiful and pretty quiet beach. The water was very clear during our stay and the beach itself even has some somewhat secluded spots to get some peace and quiet. The ground underwater is mostly sandy but at some points there are rocks that have collapsed into the water, so you can even find some fish. The sand is very very fine. Of course it therefore relentlessly sticks everywhere and is hard to get rid of. It is also a great place to watch the sunset! After sundown there are a lot of mosquitos between you and the car park. Between the beach and the car park are restrooms.
Robert F — Google review
This was one of the absolute highlights of our stay in Sardinia. You can escape the crowds on other beaches here, enjoy peace and tranquillity, and have a whole stretch of beach 'all to yourself'. Admittedly, there are no toilets or restaurants, and you have to walk 10–15 minutes from the car park, but it was definitely worth it.
Johannes B — Google review

Beach
Spiaggia di Mare Morto is a serene and picturesque beach located in Cabras, on the western coast of the island. True to its name, "dead sea," this beach offers calm waters protected from strong waves, making it an ideal spot for relaxation. However, during windy days, it tends to accumulate more seaweed. Accessing the beach involves a short walk under the sun and across a hill.
Very nice. You need to walk a little on a hill and under the sun There is not much space in this area. I'd suggest to spend half day on the main beach (other side), get something at the bar, see archeological sites, finally come on Mare morto on the late afternoon
Sav — Google review
The beach is clean, the sea is great too swim in and the sand is fine. The kids loved it. Would've benefitted from a few fresh water showers and some public loos but otherwise a good beach to go to.
Whiskers W — Google review
Nice calm and almost salvage beach
José C — Google review
This beach as the name says "dead sea" is very calm and quiet, the water is protected from the waves and when is windy is the only beach in the area without huge waves, unfortunately because there aren't many waves the beach has more sea weeds than the others, and if there's no wind I recommend going to the other ones

Beach
Spiaggia di Su Crastu Biancu is a hidden gem that boasts stunning, pearl-like sand and an untouched atmosphere. This beach offers exhilarating waves perfect for water sports enthusiasts, including kite surfing and surfboarding. While it may not be the most accessible due to its unpaved road, the effort is worth it for those seeking a less crowded experience. The beach itself isn't very long, and the water deepens quickly just a few meters from shore, making it less suitable for small children.
Beautiful beach with unusual sand (like rice)
Monika T — Google review
Nice and wild! usualy can find a place even if there is a full season. Getting there is on an non asfalt side road, not great if you are renting your car. The beach isn't very long and the water deepens a lot in several meters from the shore. Not very good with small children. Is also wild as it is left natural(not cleaned), so the shore is full of algaes and other things that the see brings in. The water is very clear, nice rocky bottom. Good for diving. There is no life guards so you can't count only on your self. They have a playable car park but its not safer than the side of the road(not surveyed only for the tiket:). The great thing and the big difference is the "sand" that is actually, small grain size, white rocks, that make the whole point of your must visit!! 😃 Nice views and can use for you caravane stay/route.

Road is bad for your car. Lots of seaweed. Less fish to watch than arrutas. Don't think I will go back.

Spiaggia di San Giovanni di Sinis is one of the unique beaches in the area, known for its clear waters and tranquility. It is located near an ancient town and a Spanish tower, adding to its charm. The beach offers crystal-clear water perfect for swimming and observing marine life. Visitors can also enjoy the stunning sunset views. Additionally, there are nearby parking facilities and restaurants for convenience. This serene beach provides a peaceful and beautiful coastal experience for travelers seeking relaxation and natural beauty.
My favorite beach in the area. There is also a free parking spot close to the houses

This beach is "heaven" 😍 🙌 heads up: I would recommend to wear a mosquito repellent!!

Incredible place. Can only give five stars, totally worth the visit.

Very nice beach. Crystal water. Quiet. Easy parking in the street.

My favorite beach in Sardegna! Very very beautiful!
Nancy Y — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous corner of the world, we were there in October 2018 so it was off season and practically deserted.
Chris W — Google review
The sunset was amazing. The beach was clean and the parking lot was nice.
Larisa M — Google review
The water is crystal clear here and there are many fish to see. There are rocks where you can swim around. But at 4pm the waves start to grow larger.

Mentioned on

Putzu Idu is a charming resort village located on the northernmost tip of a peninsula in Sardinia. The beach boasts quartz sand and offers a more tranquil and less crowded atmosphere compared to its southern counterparts. While Sa Mesa Longa beach may not meet some expectations, the nearby cliffs of Su Pallosu are a must-see with their stunning rock formations, clear waters, and great snorkeling opportunities.

Popular, white-sand beach featuring a wooden boardwalk, plus a parking lot & restaurants.

The water was crystal clear. Perfect for snorkelling and just enjoying the underwater life. Full of 🐠🐟Beautiful quartz covered beach and azure blue sea. It is so serene and peaceful even though it was crowded becauae it was high season💙 There is a parking nearby, restaurants and bars.
Milena K — Google review
Way too crowded (August 2025), steep descent into the sea, not the cleanest one, showers with sea water. Rice sand is just perfect, the best I have ever experienced
Oleksandr T — Google review
The best beach in the Sinis' peninsula. Cristal clear waters and the sand is made of white quartz. It gets busy. Best time to visit and get a nice spot are early morning or late afternoon. I recommend watching the sunsets.
Giovan C — Google review
Absolutely loved Arutas Beach! Easy to reach with convenient parking and even showers available. The beach itself is stunning, crystal clear water, amazing views, but not many waves. Definitely worth a visit

Beach
Spiaggia Su Zinnibiri is a special beach that is definitely worth a visit. It offers both paid and free parking options, but visitors are reminded not to take the sand with them. The beach is less crowded due to its predominantly rocky seabed, making it perfect for snorkeling and providing a stunning panorama. With its white quartz grains reminiscent of the famous "is arutas" beach, this spot is recommended for those looking to avoid the crowds of other beaches.
(Translated by Google) mid-August week away from the crowds. in practice it is the terminal part of the Su Maimoni beach and not far from the S'archeddu and Sa Canna beaches. the seabed is mostly rocky. Reachable both from Maimoni and from the famous but super crowded, chaotic and dirty Is Arutas.

Rice Crispies Beach :-) Soft small. pebbles. Fairly rocky and not easy to enter the water. Good for snorkeling.
Thorque M — Google review
This is the worst beach I’ve ever encountered. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else. The water is dirty and shallow, you can’t swim or snorkel. It’s not sand but coarse gravel (2–5 mm), so you can’t build anything, and it’s hard to walk on without sinking 30 cm into it. It’s a pain to get it off your body.
Attila K — Google review
(Translated by Google) Secluded beach shortly after Maimoni. From the Maimoni beach car park, continue on a dirt road that runs alongside the beach, about 50 meters away. There is actually no parking, but you leave your car on the street. The beach is made of quartz, small pebbles that do not stick to the skin. However, the seabed is rocky, shoes are recommended, also because it continues for tens of meters entering the sea. There are no establishments or services. (Original) Spiaggia appartata poco dopo Maimoni.

(Translated by Google) Deserted beach, with rocks and rocks present in the sea and therefore making the classic swim impossible, but fascinating from a naturalistic point of view due to the quartz sand and the flora (wild lily). You can reach it by walking from Maimoni beach or by car on a dirt road.

(Translated by Google) Special beach, absolutely worth visiting... there are both paid and free parking spaces... please don't take the sand away! 😂😂 (Original) Spiaggia speciale, da visitare assolutamente... ci sono sia parcheggi a pagamento che gratis… mi raccomando non portate via la sabbia! 😂😂
