Mayrhofen in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Mayrhofen, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Mayrhofen is a classic Tyrolean mountain town known for excellent skiing and snowboarding in winter, with access to the Penken and Ahorn ski areas and the nearby year-round Hintertux Glacier. In summer it becomes a base for hiking, climbing and cycling in the Zillertal Alps, with well-marked trails and panoramic views. The village itself offers traditional Austrian architecture, alpine inns and easy rail connections to Innsbruck and beyond. Annual events like the Snowbombing festival add a lively cultural edge to its otherwise laid-back alpine atmosphere.
With favorites like Brück'n Stadl, Café Tirol · Restaurant Mayrhofen, and Hotel & Gasthof Perauer, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Brück'n Stadl and Ellies Diner & Take Away - Burger & Bowls so you can get the best taste of Mayrhofen while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Penkenbahn, part of the Mayrhofner Bergbahnen, offers a picturesque gondola ride up Penken Action Mountain with stunning views of alpine mountains. It is a modern and efficient cable car system that provides access to hiking, biking, and paragliding activities at the mountain top. The gondola ride starts from the center of town and is easily accessible from Innsbruck.
What a beautiful and picturesque place to visit. Friendly staff, fantastic food and drink. If you get a chance to go there I would highly recommend

The weather was extremely nice for August, the view is amazing, really worth to go and see for yourself! Definitely 5 stars!

Faster than a climb! The views are incredible and lovely places to eat/drink at the top of the mountain along with hiking trails for all fitness levels

DO IT! IT IS SO WORTH THE VIEWS! I almost didn't go because I thought the tickets were a bit expensive until the sales lady told me there was a restaurant up there and a beautiful trail to walk through for amazing photos. She was very patient with our group and gave a group discount for us and helped us get everything settled with directions. You can turn your card back in for 2 euro back! I couldn't choose from the photos and videos I took so you get to see them all 😂

Beware the blue 28 - your teacher might recommend it as a good practice slope, but it’s so crowded you will feel like an elephant in a china shop. It also has a few very steep parts. Take the slope 14 instead. Getting up in a rush hour (8:30-9:30 am) is a stressful experience.
Jana K — Google review
Very effective cable car, with stunning views. Enough to keep all the family busy for a couple of hours or more, with a play area, restaurants and a circular walk

Cheese shop
Erlebnissennerei Zillertal - Schau-Sennerei is a showcase dairy in Zillertal, Austria that offers cheese, yogurt, and butter-making demonstrations using Alpine milk. Visitors can choose from entry tickets with or without cheese tasting and explore the factory to witness the production process. The tour includes tastings of various cheeses, bread, and delicious ice cream with three different flavors.
A good destination for tourists to enjoy live diary production and taste different very fresh products. You need to visit it early so you don’t miss the live show. My kids enjoyed the farm and playing with the animals, they had fun and a great time. You can also have some good food in the restaurant.
Ali A — Google review
Absolutely overated. Not worth visiting on a rainy day as more people have the same idea and it is over crowded. We paid 36€ for 2 persons for a tour that would normally take 15 minutes. Instead, we waited 30 minutes in a queue with tens of other people - the hallway was blocked for unknown reason and no one informed us what was going on. When we decided to pass the line, we found out that they were waiting for the cheese samples, but the machines did not work and the peronnel did not care. So instead of dedicating 1 person to cut the cheese, the company rather puts not-working machines so that peple do not get much/or any of the samples that they paid for and get frustrated. The tour ended in the shop to spend more money on dairy products, which you most likely did not even try. I would also appreciate english signes/informative tables for such tourist place. To not only critisise, the outer area was nice and kids got to play on playgrounds. O think price 10€ per person would better suit such attraction.
Anton O — Google review
Great place to visit with family. Enough activities for kids and for adults. Good quality time - almost 2 hours, without restaurant.
Alexei C — Google review
Interesting tour of cheese and yogurt production. There is a recorded guide with lots of interesting information. At the end of the route there is a yogurt tasting and it must be said that all of them were excellent. Products can be purchased in the store. Very nice and attentive staff. We can recommend!
Pavel J — Google review
Ok, I have come here to give a 5 star rating on a product, you, Erlebnis Sennerei Zillertal manufacture. The honey milk and goats milk can be found in some supermarkets around Bayern. Unfortunately, not always 😭 this is the only milk that is natural and in a handy small 500ml packaging that can be found in German supermarkets. I look forward to buying it every time I travel through Bavaria/Austria. I would love to see this milk sold in glass bottles though, then it will be a perfect healthy drink! No microplastics! I hope you are listening and hearing me, dear Erlebnis Sennerei! Also, please start importing your products into other parts of Germany, so Germans can learn how to make German food great again. It is sad that even ‘health’ sections in supermarkets are full of products with a long list of ingredients including glucose/fructose syrups, thickeners, MSG, preservatives etc. As for all the bad reviews that I’ve just read, please show respect to your customers before you loose your business. Your customers feel ripped off! Change, adapt, fix the issues, lessen the price. Or don’t charge at all, then people will spend way more money in your shop and you’d make your fortune in a respected way! Watch your bad reviews disappear 🫠
Never M — Google review
Lots of fun watching cheese making, then walking around the little farm and meeting the goats. We went on a weekday morning and the factory is busy with people working on products, so that’s a good time to go. An hour well spent.
Kirsty A — Google review
Rainy day during the annual cow parade. Parked in the back and walked in after the parade. We shopped in the store and then took our purchases into the restaurant. Ordered a few items on the menu and relaxed there for a couple hours. The food was good and wait staff friendly. They only spoke German which was ok because we spoke a little German. We did not tour the museum.

Loved visiting here whilst in Mayrhofen. The cheese and yogurt tasting experience was amazing. Seeing the process of how the cheese is made was also very interesting. I also loved seeing all the animals on the farm and getting to feed the chickens and goats. Would come back.

Ski & Snowboard Areas
The Ahornbahn is an alpine cable car that takes visitors to the Ahorn mountain plateau, offering access to hiking trails and ski pistes. The region of Tirol in Austria is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, with options for both summer and winter activities. In addition to skiing, the area boasts a vibrant apres-ski scene in towns like Innsbruck, Kitzbuhel, and Seefeld.
If you are a beginner, this is your place, rather than Penken. It offers properly wide slopes with amazing quality of snow, and much less people. Bonus points for a fun park, igloo bar and eagle shows.

Amazing experience! Ahornbahn offers a fast and comfortable ride up into breathtaking mountain scenery with incredible views. The cabin is spacious and modern, and the ride up is smooth and well-organized. At the top, you’ll find beautiful hiking trails, stunning nature, and spots to relax or grab a bite. It’s the perfect destination for families, hikers, and mountain lovers. Big plus for the friendly staff and excellent service. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Mayrhofen!

A great way to go to the top! We would recommend going to the middle station, and hiking up to the top from here. You get some great panoramic views during the walk. You can drink and eat something on the large terrace on the top. You can see over 3000 different peaks, from all the different mountains in the Alps!

Great ski slopes and very reasonably priced meals and drinks, great run down to the valley, blue into red into black fully enjoyable, don’t forget to stop at Elizabeth’s for the sun downer on you last run.
Dave W — Google review
The cable car is nice, but it has no ventilation inside, and the smell from people that come down from hikes is sometimes very problematic. Also, we visited in summer so it was very hot. The last car leaves at 5pm which is very early in our opinion. The parking is not free. To be honest, for 40 euros/pers we were expecting better services.
Loredana E — Google review
Engineering masterpiece. Runs already from 7:30 (in summer). I recommend to be here early in morning when we were almost alone in cabin for 120 people. The views are really great. The parking is paid, but if you have a ticket to go up you get whole day for 3 euro.

Hotel & Gasthof Perauer is a cozy property offering warm rooms with balconies and a spa for relaxation. The restaurant exudes a traditional ambiance, with nicely dressed waiters serving local cuisine. While some found the food to be amazing and the service top-notch, others experienced slow service but still enjoyed the plentiful and well-presented dishes. Overall, it's considered one of the best restaurants in the area, providing a friendly ambience and delicious local cuisine.

Went here as a group of 4, reserved table but had to wait +20 minutes even as there where table available. During dinner we had to change table as our table could seat 5 people. The attitude was more than dull from the waiters… The food is priced above par, the content is way below. The meat is boring, and the sides is overcooked. Only positive was the wine list that contained a couple of decent French bottles to good price.
Johannes S — Google review
We were booked in to this hotel but for some reason we had to stay at the hotel next door. Everything was organised very well and this was no problem. Overall impression of the hotel is good. If you are a sensitive sleeper then this is may be not the hotel for you. The hotel is in the town and next to a river, that is quite loud. If you like eating meat then the restaurant is for you. Vegetarians should maybe give it a miss.
Richard E — Google review
First off, the food was very good and the service was friendly. However, Bad review because they charge 5 euro for tapwater and kept bringing more. Moreover they gave us a wrong desert which we declined and still charged us for it.
Martijn K — Google review
This review is for the restaurant: Place is very nice, Tirol traditional. Food is really good. Definitely you need reservation.
Vlad I — Google review
We only ate at the restaurant. It’s a bit over hyped. I had the spare ribs and they were over cooked (probably kept warm with hours). The wine is overpriced.
Conor O — Google review
Nestled up near the lifts to the mountains, this restaurant is in prime position. It was recommended as a good, if expensive restaurant and it met both those criteria. Meals were universally enjoyed and the portions more than sufficient for active hikers. If you can stretch the budget then make a booking here.

ADLERBÜHNE AHORN is a captivating birds of prey show that offers an unforgettable experience for bird enthusiasts. Visitors can witness eagles flying amidst the audience and observe the largest owl on earth in action. The falconers are passionate about their birds and provide engaging explanations about these fascinating creatures. Conveniently located just a ten-minute walk from the top station of Ahornbahn, this attraction is easily accessible, making it suitable for families with children.
During winter you can see the birds catching some sunshine and walk quite close to them. It is amazing! We talked to the employees and we could feel why they do their job - they love animals. And that is the way it should be.
Jan M — Google review
It’s an okay bird show, but if you don’t speak German, don’t bother. For about every 8minutes of constant German chatter there is one or maximum two sentences in English. Birds occasionally fly by. They really should have warned us about this when we paid over 40 euros per ticket. Really bad value for money, we left early and enjoyed the beautiful trails on the mountain.
Levi L — Google review
Brand new seating stage with very close view of various magnificent Eagles, Owles,… The passionate owners are a family with years of experience and they make a “not to miss” show. Dogowners can bring their dogs with them but they have to stay under provided cover so that the birds of prey can’t spot them. Everything is well organised and super clean. A must see when you’re in the region! Be on time: it takes about 15 minutes to walk from the cablecar to the show. Entry fee is 15€. The talking is mostly in German, only 25% gets translated into English. The show takes about 1 hour.
Mr B — Google review
If you are interested in birds, you will love this show! To experience an eagle flying right between the spectators and watch the biggest owl on earth hunt is a memory to last! The falconers explain these fascinating creatures in a most catchy way, they live for their birds! The show begins at 2 pm and is a ten minutes walk from the top station of Ahornbahn. Easily reachable witch children.

Brück'n Stadl is a lively and fun apres ski spot with a vibrant atmosphere. The Eurotrash music sets the tone for a night of foot-tapping, beer, and shots. It's a great place to let loose and join in on the party. The bar operates on cash-only basis, so be prepared. Despite some reports of minor issues with bartenders, the overall experience seems to be positive with hospitable staff and free shots of schnapps.
Very nice bar. For winter Après-ski and also in the summer with live music.

Pizza place a joke. I paid a fair price but when compared to others of the same meal I realised I had been mislead. I asked the staff to address it. Obviasly I'm not a German so they turned me away. I took a few photos and left my pizza on the take.. 18.50 for a kebab pizza. Please do better.

Went there at St. Patrick’s day, 6€ entrance, cash only. The place smells from puke and the floor is sticky. The DJ put mostly local songs so I think mostly locals will enjoy it.

Awesome and cool Apres ski place. Crazy people, crazy music, very sticky floor, it is better to fly instead of walking there (if you can). Must go place.

Nice party place! One interesting thing, one bartender constantly gives you too little money back. Kind of stealing from you. And when you make hime aware, he says that it was a mistake.

39.95 for 3 grey goose and sprite, despite price on menu being 7.10 each grey goose. Rip off by woman in the smoking area bar, also very rude. I also dont think this was even entered in the till as when we handed her 40 asking was it enough she seemed to try to add it up in her head

I don’t know whether the food is good as I did not have a chance to try it I wanted to watch a game here so I went to this place a day before to make a reservation, but I was informed that there is no reservation in this place What was my surprise when I got there just before the game, found a table but I was not allowed to sit because it was reserved- guess for whom??? For the owner of the pub… and the guy told it to me in person… I personally do not accept public places where an owner clearly says “I am better than my clients” Very sad that this happened to me in my beloved Mayrhofen Dear sir, thank you for your answer- what you write is exactly confirming, what my remarks are about- you do not see a difference between your own living room and public place you run - I simply believe it is not the right mindset of a good restaurant owner… have good day!

We are two Italian travelers on vacation in this beautiful country. We stopped by for a quick aperitif, with a Negroni Spritz and a non-alcoholic drink, and we had a really great experience. Fast service, friendly staff. Clean and well-maintained with attention to detail. A modern place, yet perfectly integrated into the traditional Tyrolean setting. Well done! Highly recommended, even for a quick bite. The food looked truly inviting.

Good opening hours, especially on Sundays when everything else is closed. Pricing is decent. The dip sauce is different but eatable. Not all the way unfortunately, but will come back to try out other items on the meny.

Café Tirol · Restaurant Mayrhofen offers fantastic food and service, with a superb team of staff. The burgers and schnitzel are both delicious. However, the standout feature of this place is its impressive wine menu, offering great wines at incredible prices. This sets it apart from other establishments in the area. It is highly recommended as a safe choice in Mayerhofen, known for its long-established café with friendly staff.

What sets this place apart are its affordable prices, making it an attractive option compared to the expensive and ostentatious establishments in the main town. Atmosphere was cosy and waitresses were nice. A few details were missing to make evenning perfect. Also, the Austrian schnitzel was not perfect, I have had tastier ones. I recommend the place, but it is important that if you want to taste the pork knuckle, you need to order in advance. It is also worth mentioning that when preparing to visit the institution, a reservation was dine byGoogle Maps. Everything worked perfectly.

Excellent stop while enjoying a stroll from Zell am Ziller to Mayrhoven. There was a fun playground for the kids while we enjoyed a great lunch. Both the Zwiebelrostbraten and Jungschweinbratem were lovely: generous portions and excellent side dishes with vegetables and sauerkraut. Highly recommended for a stop to refuel! Friendly service as well. And the toilets looked marvelous by the way. Lovely interior.

Bruggerstube is a true hidden gem where the art of flavor takes center stage. From the moment you arrive, the friendly and welcoming service sets the tone for a memorable dining experience. I ordered the Grillteller, and my goodness—the food was absolutely amazing. The meats were perfectly grilled, the vegetables vibrant and flavorful, and the homemade sauce tied everything together beautifully. The side of crispy fries added just the right touch, and every bite reflected freshness and care. Bruggerstube restaurant—it’s a celebration of good food, crafted with passion. Everything was amazing, the food was locally sourced and delicious , the service was on point, and the atmosphere is very authentic which is a breath of fresh air in such a touristy part of Austria.
Huston M — Google review
We had a nice dinner in a very nice environment. Kind people and the kids were having a lot of fun in the playground.
Fred L — Google review
Despite I was a little bit unsatisfied the first time and I initially rated less the location, I changed my mind after I was a second time for final conclusion. All was perfect this time.
