Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Bruneck Castle, a hilltop fortress dating back to the 13th century, offers restored rooms and a museum that delves into mountain culture. The castle houses MMM Ripa, one of Reinhold Messner's six Messner Mountain Museums, dedicated to showcasing the lives of mountain people from around the world. The museum is seamlessly integrated within the ancient walls of Bruneck Castle and features numerous exhibits displaying everyday objects from major mountain cultures globally.
Fascinating palace for those interested in learning about mountain life all over the world. Senior citizen, family, and children discounts are available. Parking at the bottom was free on Sundays and is in within about 100 meters from the entrance. You do walk up a fairly steep hill. Once inside the facility is very clean. There are many stairs to climb, husband did notice an elevator near the tower area. We were impressed with the amount of displays with adequate room to move without people bunching up together. Information was available in three languages. We got to tour the whole castle and each area was targeted by location and people. Maps were displayed showing the location being showcased. To get the most out of this museum plan on spending 2-3 hours. There are cinemas throughout, displays, and you are presented a map with a suggested route to follow. This is a showcase of collections and the castle is not the target of the visit. Young children may not appreciate the collection. Note on Sundays not much was open in the town itself. We found one open bar. Check the website as hours change season to season. Noticed that one visitor’s review stated no photos allowed beyond the first floor. We never saw any signs anywhere stating this, so I recommend you check with the staff before you begin your tour. We did notice some no touch signs and were respect. Lastly, the tower stairs are sometimes dark and narrow so it may be difficult to pass. The tower floor at the top was unnerving as it was weathered and you could feel the bowing as you walked around. The views were incredible but we got off quickly as we didn’t want to be up there with too many people. All in all we recommend this castle if you are in the area.

Didn't go inside and just did the walk around the parameter of the castle. Beautiful grounds with gorgeous little garden paths along the walls.

It is very nice castle adjs Musem which have some information about the nations. The entire tour takes around 1 hour.

It is a challenge to reach the Castle because of the snow. The exhibition is good, but it is so cold inside. The view is incredible. With the transport ticket the museum is free.
Lejla S — Google review
The previous day we visited Messner mountain Firmian and we were delighted, so we wanted to give an opportunity to this one. The ticket costs 14 euros but is free with the ritten card. The museum was super disappointing. The locations were numbered but you cannot find any signal related to this. The pieces organization seems totally random. There are some dark rooms that you cannot almost see nothing. There’s only one person working at the ticket entrance and another one in the shop. The place looked barely abandoned. We did one hour car to see this but I can assure you Rios museum is not worth it at all. Not recommended even with the free entrance.

kinda expensive but there were also many exhibitions inside and the view was absolutely stunning from the top of the tower. it was a bit disappointing that only a few rooms were kept to their original state. Still really enjoyable

Messner Mountain Museum Ripa is located in the lower courtyard of a 13th-century castle, Brunico Castle. It is one of six museums dedicated to exploring mountainous environments and their relationship with humankind. The museum focuses on the cultures of mountain civilizations from Asia, Africa, South America, and Europe. Visitors can immerse themselves in the world of Sherpas, Tibetans, Indios, and Mongolians while learning about the history and culture of these regions.
As all of his museums, this is a spectacular location, showcasing an impressive collection and artwork on mountain people. It is fascinating to draw parallels between different cultures that are united by their life in mountainous regions.
Stephanie H — Google review
Ripa is an interesting museum featuring ancient relics that belonged to mountain nomad tribes from all over the world. However, the organization of the rooms is confusing, mixing continents, countries, tribes, etc... There is hardly any logic or sub themes behind the majority of the museum rooms; it almost feels likt they were randomly arranged. There is also poor displaying, such as objects and paintings placed in the dark, with no illumination whatsoever. Also, there is hardly any audiovisual content...
Marta S — Google review
I’ve visited this museum twice over the past few months and even the second time I discovered new things that I missed the first time - there really is so much to explore!! I’d say if you want to properly see and appreciate everything that this wonderful museum has to offer, you’ll need about 2.5 hours (maybe even more). It’s so beautifully well laid out and as well as predominantly discussing the lives of mountain people around the world, there is also a section about the original use of the castle - the building has been really well-preserved. At the top of the tower, there are beautiful views to be seen of Bruneck and beyond!!

Messner Mountain Museum Ripa situated in the center of Bruneck on the top of the hill, is an interesting display of the mountain life across the globe. There are many steps to the top and the entrance to the museum. We took the side road, side path towards the museum so it was easier to reach it. The mountain culture is presented in everyday artifacts on multiple levels. RIPA in Tibetan means ri=mountain, pa=man. It is really cold inside, too.

I shared more of this great exhibition on my review of the Brunek Castle…don’t miss this museum if you are in the area! What a great idea to have exhibits of mountain life in a castle nestle in the mountains!

Amazong mountain museum, the price is a bit expensive but reasonable (11€), because the castle Bruneck is very nice and exibitions are amazing. It is about mountain people from Asia, Africa, South America and Europe. There is also a small shop and nice meditation room. The view from the castle tower is also amazing (quielte.a few steps to the top, but it's worth it), you can see the city Bruneck and nearby mountains. I highly recommend it.

LUMEN - Museum of Mountain Photography, located at an impressive 2265 meters on the summit Kronplatz, offers a curated experience dedicated to traditional mountaineering and mountain history of the Dolomites and Alps. Designed by Zaha Hadid, this museum features interactive displays and exhibits that provide informative insights into mountain photography. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views from the museum and engage in various interactive activities across its four floors.
Spectacular museum with alot of interactivity and dynamism, a must visit for photography lovers. The museum blends history, art, and technical photography, with modern technology to present unique interessing rooms. We were particularly impressed with the mirror room, rush photo room and the eye/platform room. No matter your age or interests, you are unlikely to get bored while visiting this museum.

As a photography enthusiast, I absolutely loved the Lumen Museum. The exhibitions are inspiring and beautifully curated, but it’s not just for photographers—anyone can enjoy the stunning visuals and unique atmosphere. We spent about 1.5 hours exploring and really taking our time, and it was worth every minute.

Top location, amazing food, very interesting museum. The view from restaurant van be great, a lot of cloud when we were there. The lunch was of high culinary level. The museum is expensive so take your time to enjoy.

Incredible museum in the most magnificent location! The museum is not too big but everything is extremely well curated with a mix of exhibits and interactive displays. It’s all very informative. If you’re a photographer, you do not want to miss this place. The panoramic views from the museum are breathtaking and worth visiting alone. You can also sit in the restaurant located in the same building and watch people ski. You can purchase admission tickets at the bottom of the ski lift near the big parking lot. You do not need reservations!
Cassie T — Google review
The museum Lumen is really interesting, just the fact that is situated at 2265 meters, at the summit Kronplatz. There are many interactive activities, hidden corners, 4 floors, cool lift and an amazing glass window where you can sit in one of the armchairs and get lost in the view. I particularly like the flight in the helicopter and the never ending room of mirrots. The photographs that are on display are amazing. Definitely worth visiting especially use your free ticket (buses, trains and museums) and get in for free. The only small setback is that it is so warm inside. There are lockers but you are in your ski boots, and it is really warm.
Lejla S — Google review
Very nice and interesting museum. I appreciate the fact that the curators actually tried to make the exhibition interactive and use modern technology to bring immersive experience to the visitors. The space of the museum is well structured. You can learn new information and admire the history of photography. I really enjoyed our visit here.

At this date (28.09.2025) at 15:30 ,The service at this restaurant was extremely disappointing. The waitress, a young woman with blonde hair, was unbelievably rude and disrespectful. Her attitude ruined the whole experience, and I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone.

Restaurant
Mediterranean restaurant
AlpiNN by Norbert Niederkofler is a culinary gem nestled atop a mountain cliff in Kronplatz, South Tyrol. This restaurant offers not just a meal but an unforgettable dining experience with breathtaking views that enhance every bite. The modern architecture and thoughtful touches, like helmet hooks for cyclists, add to its charm. Guests can expect friendly service and exquisite dishes that would typically cost much more at similar venues in North America.
At AlpiNN, Norbert Niederkofler’s philosophy isn’t just reflected in the food—it defines the entire experience. We had The View experience, an exceptionally well-crafted tasting menu paired with both great wines and an excellent non-alcoholic pairing menu. Each dish showcased a deep respect for local ingredients and Alpine tradition, making for a truly memorable culinary journey. Beyond the food, the setting itself was breathtaking. The restaurant’s panoramic mountain views, combined with the sight of paragliders soaring past, added an almost surreal quality to the meal. It’s an ideal spot for a lunch break during a day of skiing at Kronplatz, offering both relaxation and inspiration in equal measure. Adding to the experience was the outstanding service. The staff were not only highly professional but also warm, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. Their passion for the cuisine and careful attention to detail made us feel truly welcomed and enhanced our appreciation of every dish and pairing. A must-visit for anyone seeking a unique and elevated dining experience in the heart of the Dolomites!
Nikolai L — Google review
It is advisable to book in advance, the view from the restaurant is breathtaking as is the food. From the bread to the last dishes, every dish is delicious and creative in flavors. The service is courteous and professional. It is highly recommended to come
Edna P — Google review
The location is nice and the view is beautiful. The food is very disappointing. It tasted like pre cooked instead of freshly prepared. The meat tasteless amd chewy, no fresh vegetables but soy beans with a sweet sauce , the same sauce was used for all different main dishes we ordered. We did not finish the dessert. All food is optimized for fast preparation, not taste. Summarized: come for the view, don’t eat there. A coffee at the bar area is sufficient.

A culinary experience beyond compare at 2275m height Perched high above the Puster Valley, AlpiNN is more than just a restaurant - it’s a place where the beauty of the Dolomites meets an extraordinary dining experience. The moment you step inside, the breathtaking panoramic views draw you in, creating a sense of serenity and connection to nature. The modern yet cozy design, with its floor-to-ceiling windows and natural materials, makes you feel like you’re floating above the mountains. And designed with natural materials, it blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, making you feel both grounded and elevated at the same time. But what truly sets AlpiNN apart isn’t just the setting or the food- it’s also the people. From the very start, Valeria from the service team made us feel incredibly welcome. Her professionalism, warmth, and deep knowledge of of both the menu and wine selection plus non alcoholic pairing made our 5-course lunch experience even more enjoyable. Attentive yet never intrusive, she struck the perfect balance, ensuring that we felt both taken care of and completely at ease. It’s rare to find such a high level of service, and we deeply appreciated it. Then came the absolute highlight of our day when Norbert Niederkofler himself stopped by, took the time to personally introduce himself and even sat down at our table for a chat. We were very grateful having the opportunity to meet the mastermind behind Cook the Mountain in such an intimate setting - he is such a personalty. His passion for sustainability, respect for local ingredients, and dedication to his craft were truly inspiring. Of course, the food was nothing short of spectacular. Every dish told a story of the region, crafted with seasonal ingredients that reflected the beauty of the mountains around us. From delicate Spaghettone Quadro to a perfectly balanced tartare, each bite was a testament to the philosophy of sustainable fine dining. AlpiNN isn’t just a restaurant - it’s an experience that lingers long after the last bite. If you ever find yourself in the Dolomites, do yourself a favor and make sure to visit. It’s a place where culinary excellence meets heartfelt hospitality, and we can’t wait to return.

Restaurant with an incredible view on a clear day! You can even watch solo paragliders. Food was good n reasonably priced. Service was great too. There are options for ala carte & tasting menu. Take note that the restaurant is ONLY accessible via the Kronplatz cableway which costs eur35 return journey per person. Besides dining at Alpinn, you get to walk around the area to enjoy the stunning view. I recommend coming here only if weather is very nice to make it worthwhile.

Whether you're indulging in a gourmet meal or simply enjoying a casual drink at the bar, AlpiNN offers a truly unforgettable experience.

We booked “the View” portion of the restaurant to overlook the incredible mountains after a lovely cable car ride up to this restaurant! By the end of the five-course meal, we were full! The flavors were incredible, fresh, and unique. The gentleman had a great time ordering “blind drinks” and hearing the passionate cocktail master explain his creations. The connected Lumen museum of mountain photography was a nice extension of this food experience! Even though you can’t drive there (which we learned the hard way), the cable car ride was such a fun part of the experience!

The Pizzeria Arc - Restaurant Hotel Krone offers delectable dumplings filled with cheese, pork, and spinach that are highly enjoyable. The starter plate consisting of grilled vegetables and burata was a tad too basic. Although the location may not be the finest, it is undeniably convenient as it is situated on the main promenade in Brunek. The restaurant serves uncomplicated dishes in a friendly manner and at reasonable prices.
Good service, short wait, kindness of the managers; well-prepared and abundant dishes, clear prices and no surprises. More than good quality/price ratio, and, for a tourist area like Brunico, excellent. Just a small suggestion that we hope will be taken up by the managers: light musical accompaniment in the room. Anyway, recommended.

I have just left the restaurant. I ordered a well done steak and a salad. The steak was very hard to chew and cut with the knife. It came with potatoes which were grease and all was pretty much Tasteless. I asked for a small salad I was served with a mixed salad ( corn, black eyed peas, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots ) nothing looked fresh but mostly coming from a bag. Service was absent. The waiter saw that I didn’t touch the salad he didn’t say a work or cone to me asking why??? I feel sick to my stomach
Paola ( — Google review
This was the WORST experience I’ve ever had. To start of the salad was almost only canned vegetables, the goulash was half oil half grease and the steak was dry and overcooked. The service was also terrible. They forgot to give us spoons with the goulash, and then we couldn’t get in contact with any of the staff and they kept on giving us the wrong orders. The atmosphere was also so bad. It was loud and overwhelming. THIS PLACE SUCKS.

Fine dining restaurant
Atelier Moessmer Norbert Niederkofler is a renowned restaurant led by the talented chef Norbert Niederkofler, who holds three Michelin stars and was honored with the Michelin Green Clover for sustainable gastronomy initiatives. The restaurant offers simple yet beautifully presented dishes inspired by mountain cuisine, such as smoked fish and yogurt with fruit. Despite its impeccable service and stunning architecture, some minor flaws have been noted in certain dishes.
Dining at Atelier Moessmer is a truly unique experience. First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude to the entire staff, who made us feel incredibly comfortable and welcomed, even though we were dining with our two young children, aged 3.5 years and 6 months. Dining with children of this age at a 3-star Michelin restaurant is not a common occurrence, yet the team welcomed us warmly and genuinely. The food is exceptional, and you can sense the "Cook the Mountain" philosophy throughout the entire evening. We found all the dishes to be both delicious and distinctive, except for one— the hare. My wife and I found it less attractive, as it was prepared using less refined parts of the animal, which in this case made the dish unappetizing. However, the overall experience was outstanding, and the entire staff was highly professional, friendly, and attentive. Highly recommended!

Beautifully crafted meal in a beautiful location. That staff is young and vibrant and full of energy and you can tell they have something special going on here.

An absolute must if you enjoy fine dining and are ever in the area. Outstanding cuisine, service, and location. Their “cook the mountain” philosophy leads to exciting and creative ingredients and recipes using only hyperlocal resources. Also the wine and non-alcoholic pairings are very interesting.

Amazing service and cooking team and Chef Norbert Niederkofler was eminently hospitable. Food taste and presentation were def 3 star caliber. Wine pairing was below expectation but appreciate that they emphasized local producers. However, both me and my party felt extremely sick and nauseous right after the meal and the hours after. We could barely stood up straight due to the sickness. And for reference this dinner was the only meal we had together on this day so I don’t think it’s our previous meal that was acting up.

Ate here in Feb with the winter menu and it was truly exquisite. It was such a hospitable lunch, the food was amazing, and the chef was so personable. Definitely worth it - splurge a little bit!

Was an incredible moment from the second I pushed to doorbell. Exceptional meal and service Beetroot gnocchi was a highlight as well as bread and butter. No wonder they got 3 stars within 4 months of opening. Beef wasn’t bursting in flavor but was certainly perfectly cooked and with its sauces was just really well done. I’ve never eaten snails but the dish was good The risotto was not heavy at all and interesting with the cheese it was cooked with. The salad to begin with just had so much flavor and could taste the freshness of the herbs Pastry chef did an awesome job. Don’t forget to order the tarte tartin Only issue I had , in two confirmation emails I told them my dietary restrictions- shellfish, the first dish that came out was prawns. I just wish that they were more prepared with this. Again otherwise it was a top 3 meal for me and I will return in the winter.
Ryan K — Google review
An incredible culinary experience emphasizing hyper local ingredients and elevating it with technique, preservation and attention to detail. All the food is either foraged by the chefs or from the local farmers. Furthermore using all parts of the food is emphasized to reduce waste. This concept is well explained by the staff and even by the chef himself when one dines there. This requires the menu to change depending on the season, however there are three dishes which are able to be ordered ala carte. In addition to the tasting menu, I ordered the gnocchi beets which was delightful. It's got a liquid center and had a lovely surprise of horseradish kick when bitten into to contrast against the sweet beet extract. As for the current tasting menu, the highlights were the pasta, which tastes like what I imagine eating a fresh pine forest would be like. The sweetbread course and the beef course were insanely tender, with complimentary fermented sides which provides the necessary acidity. Finally, the berries course was crisp and fresh, and had a nice balance of crisp and tartness. One of the desserts with meringue had a beautiful pollen honey that was delicious. The only course which I thought was meh was the bread and butter. The bread was... just fine and the butter, while fresh was just not spectacular. The downside is that the philosophy requires the restaurant to be somewhat inaccessible. I opted to rent a car in Italy, which is a hazard itself lol. There is parking available on site. The other downside is that it is difficult/impossible to accommodate vegetarian/gluten free diets. The location was not hard to find, and is an old villa which they redecorated. I sat in the kitchen and enjoyed watching the staff work. The service was also a classic three Michelin star level attention, however I did include a message in my reservation which was never responded to. This is concerning as what if someone has an allergy etc. I did have to drive back to a hotel afterwards and so didn't partake in the wine pairing. I thought the experience was well worth the high cost.
Shuai J — Google review
My overall rating of the restaurant reflects on the beautiful architecture of the building and the impeccable service. The food is simple, in the style as those found around the mountain, eg. smoked fish, yoghurt and fruit, but of course presented beautifully. A couple of flaws that I didn’t expect from this impeccable looking restaurant - the ‘steamed bun’ served at the start was cold and chewy and the dessert pastry didn’t have the crisp or lightness of something that’s freshly baked. Every staff was attentive and friendly, and the chef gave each table a tour of the restaurant which emphasised the care taken in the renovations.
