Park
Painswick Rococo Garden is a picturesque 18th-century garden located in the Cotswolds, UK. It is known for its ornamental decoration and asymmetrical design, featuring winding paths, hidden follies, and scenic viewpoints. Originally created as a pleasure garden for a wealthy landowner, it was abandoned in the 1950s but has since been restored to its former glory by dedicated garden historians and owners.
Rococo Garden in Painswick is pure magic. From the moment you step through the gates, you’re transported into a whimsical world of vibrant flowers, elegant follies, and peaceful woodland paths. The garden is beautifully maintained, with surprises around every corner—from the charming Red House to the playful maze and serene kitchen garden. It’s a perfect blend of history, horticulture, and romance. We visited on a sunny afternoon and spent hours wandering, taking photos, and soaking in the atmosphere. The café serves delicious treats with friendly service, and the setting couldn’t be more picturesque. You can really feel the love and care that goes into this special place. Whether you’re a garden lover, a history enthusiast, or just seeking a peaceful escape, Rococo Garden is a must-visit. Can’t wait to return in another season!

Visited earlier this week with my family. Beautiful gardens, and enough there to keep a 2-year-old toddler occupied for most of the day. For older children, there was a trail that was far more creative than most of the 'treasure trail' type things many places have. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the shops were both well stocked with lovely things at reasonable prices. It's not often that somewhere like this will actually be selling things made from produce they've grown. Highly recommended.
Sam T — Google review
A beautiful garden to visit with your dogs. The garden is set within a bowl in the landscape which makes for different levels, vantage points and focal points. The roccoco elements add interesting and quirky focal points. The south facing slopes lend themselves to the Mediterranean style planting and grape vines. There is a strong sustainability theme throughout with the bee hives and use of home grown produce in products used and sold on site. The cafe had a great selection of paninis amongst lots of other options and the staff were super friendly and helpful.
Tracy D — Google review
A great place to visit, lovely gardens and a great woodland walk filled with follies. Easy access with lots of parking and a nice coffee and bacon buttie. The fields around the gardens were full of wildlife and provide wide ranging views. The small garden centre/ nursery has a good selection of plants and bushes.
John T — Google review
Absolutely fantastic. We loved it. Gorgeous gardens with quirky and interesting follies, a woodland area and plenty to discover. Nice little cafe too with a bit of a festival vibe to it. A gem and well worth your time
Rick — Google review
Truly beautiful and well curated gardens with some nicely preserved Rococo architecture. Great for a leisurely stroll - stunning views over the surrounding Cotswold countryside. We went with my 2 wee nieces - I was expecting them to be bored. They were not - the Disgusting Sandwich Trail kept them entertained and interested throughout. Nice cafe at the end. Highly recommended with or without kids.
Caroline W — Google review
What a gorgeous hidden gem 💖 We visited this garden first through Gardeners World 2 for 1 offer and fell in love with it. It is a magical garden come woodland and is wonderful at any time of the year. It's a great place to take the kids and the dog 💖
Karen F — Google review
Stunning! We were blessed with fine weather. The whole experience was sublime. I feel that having seen the possibilities that a garden can have, I may have to draw up new designs for the back garden when I get home. My heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful people that make this magic happen.

History Museums
Located in the scenic Stratford Park, Museum in the Park is a local history museum housed in a 17th-century building. It offers free admission and features a gift shop, cafe, and walled garden. The museum boasts an impressive collection of around 4,000 artifacts on display, showcasing the fascinating history of the Stroud district. Visitors can explore diverse exhibits ranging from dinosaur bones and Roman antiquities to Prinknash pottery and landscape paintings.
Another of those places that we've never had time to visit. Absolutely fantastic and full of local antiquitys and history. The displays were excellent, and the building was surprisingly large. Modern extensions were tastefully done and even allowed space for an art exhibition. Very helpful staff on the front desk. The gardens and surrounding grounds were immaculately maintained. What a great local asset.
Dale C — Google review
This Museum offers a mixed experience. While it’s free and set in a beautiful park, some exhibits feel unremarkable, with common household items on display. The walled garden is a highlight, and staff are friendly. However, the museum could benefit from more engaging displays to match Stroud’s rich history. Overall, it’s a pleasant but not outstanding visit.
Enoch O — Google review
This was an interesting little museum that packs a lot in and has a nice walled garden and gift shop as well. However it was the staff that made it a 5 star experience. They were so lovely - making us tea when the machine broke and looking after my papers (that I'd bought) so I could go out Inthe garden while it wet. I gave them a donation and recommend it to anyone who wants to learn a little about the area.
Jo H — Google review
The museum in the park is an excellent choice for a visit to Stroud.. great for kids..especially if the weather isn't great as you can spend some time in there. There is no charge for entry...but donations are welcome. A self serve cafe for hot and cold drinks. And ice cream's a limited choice of snacks .mainly crisps and cereal bars. Seating area in the courtyard so you could take a picnic...plus you also have the park. There is also a secret garden access through the museum. I visited today and was allowed to take my tea to sit outside. It had not long been opened last time I visited I think and it even more beautiful. With several areas to sit. Lots of beautiful plants and some available to purchase. Fabulous suntrap.

Regularly pop in with the boys & my partner after Swimming at Stratford Park, a little around & using the Skate / Bike park. We love being able to look through alot of history & the boys love to take part in the different activities which takes them around the whole museum so each time they do something different. The gardens at the back are magical for all, there's something for everyone We will be back & although free, donations are welcome from the public Well done all those at the Museum
Neil J — Google review
A truly exceptional small museum. Curation is onnovative and engaging, and the garden is a real treat. The cafe and shop are of a high standard. The museum hosts workshops, talks and events too, all of which are innovative and thought provoking.
Jo T — Google review
Great little museum with some interesting exhibits and nice gardens
Michael F — Google review
Despite visiting Stratford Park regularly, we had never visited the Museum before yesterday. We had been missing out for sure! We were amazed that it was a) free (donations more than welcome), and b) had so many activities for the kids specifically to do. I.e. various trails around the park and the museum itself. Our personal favourite part was the walled garden. There was also an insect exhibition on when we visited.

Event venue
Art center
The Stroud Subscription Rooms, also known as The Sub Rooms, has a rich history of attracting creative talents and hosting cultural events. It was once the town hall and now houses a tourist information center, art space, and a bar and restaurant. This Neoclassical monument built in 1833 offers various entertainment options such as concerts, plays, and dance performances in its 450-seater Ballroom. The venue is an integral part of the vibrant arts scene in Five Valleys.
Such a great place. Incredible acoustics in the ballroom, amazingly attentive and professional staff, very high standard of catering and incredible acts. In the past couple of years I have attended gigs, an awards evening, organised my own small events and been to a funeral here. Every single time I am blown away by the quality of every aspect of the experience. We are so lucky to have a venue like this is such a small town.
Clare H — Google review
Fabulous venue! Went to a gig there last night (Pop Will Est Itself) and the venue was just perfect. Just the right size so that, even standing at the back, you'd get a good view of the performers on stage. Located in the centre of town, parking is easy - if you can't get anywhere free on the street, there's a nearby multi-storey.
Simon P — Google review
I've eaten here twice recently and I've been blown away by the quality of the food and how reasonable it is. The first time we had the most amazing parsnip soup, with plenty of tasty bread. It was £5.50!!. Then I returned again for a Ploughman's and a slice of cake. The cake was £2.50 and huge ! This is the best place in Stroud to have lunch. For quality and price. Well done all .
Lisa S — Google review
Wonderful venue, great staff, acoustics to rival many of the big venues and a dance floor that keeps you dancing.
Alix H — Google review
Good acoustics. Level floor auditorium. Really helpful & friendly staff. Bar is card only.
Philip L — Google review
Great artists play here and such a rich variety of events The staff are especially considerate for disabled people to attend and are very caring. A real community of different events means there is always something for everyone.
Julie R — Google review
Intimate atmosphere. Nice café and bar. The striking facade was unfortunately hidden behind scaffolding for our last visit. Thankfully the inside was relatively unchanged. Very welcoming and helpful staff at the entrance and in the café. The café is reasonably priced and it's one of the few places to eat in Stroud where I know I'll get good food. The upstairs bar has a few local beers and local soft drink but is otherwise much like other entertainment venues: expensive. The main auditorium is quite small so lends itself to more intimate gigs and shows. Acoustics aren't too bad or building this age. Seating isn't top quality and sitting too far along in the balcony leads to a very restricted view. Otherwise it's a good venue and a real asset to the town.
Glevum O — Google review

Shambles Market in Stroud has transformed from a traditional meat market to a vibrant hub of arts, crafts, and local produce. The town's unique high street offers independent food shops, bakeries, and delis. Visitors can explore the eclectic range of goods including organic food, books, jewelry, and crafts. The Saturday market is a must-visit with an array of offerings such as cheeses, vegetables, dog treats, cakes, and more.
Very busy market. Lovely organic products like honey, cheese and vegetables. Bought purple sweet potatoes! Great coffe stolls. The bread and pastries were just amazing. A must go on a Saturday morning if traveling to the Costworlds.
Mer G — Google review
This is the best (so far) farmers market I have been to, with a huge variety of stalls and interesting things to see. It's also the only farmers market open every Saturday in my area. Close by is parking for disabled badge holders and the added bonus of a huge food hall that families can visit close to the market. Prices are what they are and you can pay by cash or card.
Derek E — Google review
Shambles on a Friday is perfect. The very best fresh sustainably caught fish from Nick. Fantastic mellow perfectly ground coffee from Golden sheep. Cheeses from Hania van to die for. And fruit and veg the likes of which you never see or taste from a supermarket. Top quality. Consistently. Thank you all of you. You are food and drink legends.
T K — Google review
Very big Saturday farmers market. Many stalls selling local produce, cheeses, meats, fruit and veg as well as many food stalls selling various types of street food such as Indian and Thai.
Margaret N — Google review
This is, by far, the best market I've been to, in any country, so far.

As foodies, my family and I loved our day trip to Stroud Shambles Market. We had been recommended to come here by family friends and it surpassed our expectations! The atmosphere was enchanting and welcoming! There were plenty of stalls which had a huge range of produce. We definitely want to come back again!

Well attended. Surprised at queues at first two stalls. Stopped at Baker whose main complaint was he could not get his goods out quick enough before selling them. Good variation in stalls, all stalls seemed well visited. All the cafes were well attended helped it was a sunny day. U can park quite close good price

Nestled in the heart of Stroud, the Five Valleys Shopping Centre is a vibrant hub that combines shopping, dining, and entertainment. With its retro American bowling alley vibe at Stroud Bowl, visitors can enjoy pool tables and arcade games for a fun-filled date night. After some friendly competition, head over to Bar 300 for delicious food and cocktails or catch the latest blockbusters at Vue cinema—where moviegoers can snag discounts on hot meals at Five Valleys Market with their tickets.
Was here yesterday, on business. What a lovely shopping center, with a varied shopping and even more varied eating. The main entrance is kinda cool and is still being finished off but there is a really interesting clock, with "Stroud Time" explained. An information board about the 5 valleys (as an outsider, I had no idea). It has a variety of small shops on the walkway, from a nail bar through mobile phone repair to a cobblers. Then Sandersons which is worth it just for the smell through to Sports direct and a poundland/Bargain shop and gym. The eating quarter is amazing, with alsorts of food from traditional to Thai and beyond. The is a good size car park although quite tight if you have a big car which has a while you wait/shop car wash, to a Tesco on the ground floor. In summary I dont think, other than a Greggs, I could want for more. I have attached some photos and have tried to remove the people for safety/ID purposes and it was quite bust when I was there
Bobby D — Google review
This Shopping Centre offers a delightful mix of shopping and dining experiences in a charming, modern setting. The thoughtful blend of independent retailers and popular brands ensures there’s something for everyone, from unique gifts to everyday essentials. The food market is a highlight, boasting a variety of cuisines and fresh produce, making it perfect for a quick bite or stocking up on artisan goods. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the space is well-maintained, though parking can sometimes be a challenge during peak hours. Overall, it’s a vibrant addition to Stroud’s appeal, perfect for locals and visitors alike. Four stars for its great variety and friendly vibe!
Enoch O — Google review
I came here today on business to see a couple of vendors and I can't understand why this place has low rated reviews. I found it interesting, different, great little food places and Sandersons oh Sandersons! It could do with a couple of extra toilets but on the whole, clean, varied and parking not a problem.
Heather M — Google review
The roof top access is weird to say the least and the car park as a whole is awkwardly layed out. Paying for parking is so old fashioned, with pay and display. Look into the system used at the Peel center in Gloucester, much better.
Kevin S — Google review
I walked through here from the railway/train station in Stroud to Stratford open Lido - lots of cafes, small independent shops, banks, opticians and all under cover - There is a car park near by Tried one of the local bakeries for which there will be a separate review Some empty buildings but they were under renovation Perhaps not what everyone wants but being under cover does help
ANN L — Google review
Shocking place, soon as you walk into the precinct it stinks of stale cooking oil from all the food vendors, the flooring is horrendous full of trip hazards all unfinished with raised metal work even though "Five Valleys" has been open for years, definitely not worth a visit...... Shame the owners spend so much money on advertising the place and not in public safety, Recommend you give it a miss.....you'll only be disappointed.
Mark H — Google review
A cute centre in the heart of Stroud. If you want to dine or shop in the small boutiques this is the place. What we loved most were all the stalls offering food from various countries.

9th November 2021......We went to FALAFEL MAMA at Five Valleys shopping Centre, situated in the food hall, which has a vast amount of different types of eating places to suit everyone's taste! They do different sizes of pitta breads and fill it with warm falafels and salad, consisting of shredded red & white cabbage, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, ect with delicious sauces! They also do a generous helping of chips if you are very hungry!! Very suitable for Vegans like us!! They also have a pie eating place next to it who also offer vegan pies, consisting of wild mushrooms ect. Unfortunately we don't like wild mushrooms so personally gave it a miss !! We did however buy a tea and coffee from them! There is by the way, a reasonable amount of seating in the food hall.

The staff is attentive to dietary needs, ensuring a stress-free dining experience for individuals with celiac disease. Went in here on a chance looking for a coffee and enjoyed a delicious different breakfast. I had the quesadilla my husband had the full English. Loved the extensive menu. Wishing we lived nearer as we would visit often. Tapas looked very inviting . The indoor decor was amazing and added to the ambience. The building was a snooker hall, didn't look a lot from outside but once in and the upstairs were beautifully adorned. Would highly recommend and it was very busy when we were there on a Sunday and service was good.

Love the layout of this place, it has a great atmosphere. A extensive menu with lovely sounding dishes - if you can't pick one, you're likely to find it in the tapas section (3 for £12.75). The nasi goreng was delicious!! Nice touch that the dogs were able to come in too 😊👌

Fish and chips takeaway
Simpsons Fish and Chips in Stroud has occasional order mix-ups and some instances of overdone chips, but these are minor issues compared to the consistently fresh fish with crispy, delicious batter. The menu also offers delightful alternatives like calamari or tofu. While the portion of mushy peas might be small, they are still tasty. Overall, it is considered the best fish and chips in town according to multiple customers.
So this had been recommended by a local. It’s the best fish and chips in years. It may even be the best friend battered haddock I’ve ever had. Fresh, hot, crispy and so tasty. Beautifully presented in the Simpsons box. Fresh wedges of lemon. I decided to not have chips as I’d eaten already. But my friend’s chips and fried fish in seaweed (?) were delicious. We ate in at the cute little table. I’m from London so it seemed cheap to me for such good quality food and the amount was decent if not generous. But my friend remarked he would expect more chips for the price. I would definitely go back again. Lucky locals!

It was the first time I had bought fish and chips from Simpsons in Stroud? The last time I was here it was a different shop. The service and the food were excellent. All credit goes to the two members of staff working there. I arrived at one forty-five, fifteen minutes before they closed at two. They were both cheerful and attentive, and I will certainly call in again in the near future As promised today, Wednesday 17th of June, just after 12:00 I was in Stroud, and first place of call is my newly found Fish and chip shop. There is the usual polished welcome from the two staff members today who were different from the staff on Saturday. I ordered my fish and chips and with them mushy peas. This time, I sat inside and ate them. Once again, good quality tasting fish and chips. Call in yourselves if you enjoy finding new and refreshing fish and chip shops, and you will not be disappointed.

Awfull!! £24 for haddock and chips x2, fish was the worst we have ever had, dry and burnt, the chips were also dry like warmed up from lunch time, will never buy there again. I wouldn’t of given one star but you need too to leave a review, avoid!!

Fish cooked fresh, batter a bit hard and a bit thick, chips were scarce and not really edible as tasted like they have been sat there a while, don't think I'd try again on the hope that it's better just in case it's the same. We worked out it's 16p per chip lol

Lovely food, staff, and drinks. The cacao was delicious. They have a wonderful range of gluten free and vegan options, and lots of food that tastes good and feels very wholesome/organic. They have a range of dairy free milks, such as almond milk, which I think tastes the best in coffees! The staff were all incredibly helpful & friendly on both the Saturday and the Sunday that I was in, even though it was a bank holiday and so they were absolutely rammed. Really commendable service

Yet another 'Oh my! They've hit the bar!' in terms of achieving a five star review. Sometimes I think I'm really mean but, having had a thunk, I realise that they've not quite reached the level of my all time favourite, Slō. It's still a bit of a mystery to me why baristas appear to be some of the nicest peeps on the planet. The staff at Woodruffs were great. Not only did they not spit on me but they welcomed me in and put up with my northern-ness. Nice coffee ☕️, nice swirly (thank you, young man. I got the impression you don't offer a swirly with every brew). I'm still too fat and not suffering hypoglycaemia enough to eat the cakes on offer, but they were very tempting! Always fantastic coffee here and an all round great ambience and atmosphere. Upstairs has some great views of the Main Street and a playing area for children. Staff are friendly and helpful and the food is also very good!

Nce range of well prepared vegetarian food, also has meat and vegan options. We all enjoyed our choices ( group of 7). Friendly staff. Only mild criticism was one meal arrived significantly later than others but minor jiggle.

Great ambiance! Cosy cafe with lovely people who are welcoming and accommodating. Overlooking the high street. Has got a family room and more seating for kids upstairs. Wide range of menu options for vegans and vegetarians. The sweetcorn frittata was good along with the monkey cake. Bit expensive but not everything.

This has always been a lovely cafe with great service and wholesome food, I was sadly disappointed by this visit! I ordered a cacao and lions mane hot chocolate which was served in the smallest flat white cup with a £5 price tag! my daughter had the same but iced which was in a tall glass when my husband complained to the guy his response was tough it’s an expensive product! Not great customer service..and also no explanation to the size difference. my husband had a warm milkshake not iced as described! And we had the worst 3 cheese and onion pasties I’ve tasted, I’ve been coming to this cafe for 25 years but sadly will never return…feel like it’s lost what it used to be..

Disappointed with visit today. On previous visits the service was excellent and the portions larg. Although it was busy today our food took over 35 minutes to arrive. In the end I had to chase It up. It was also a smaller portion than the other times we have been there. It consisted of one small portion of sourdough and although the spinach and mushrooms were plentiful there was only one very small cherry tomato.

Family restaurant
Old Nelson Brewers Fayre is a relaxed and casual establishment that offers a variety of classic dishes and international favorites. Patrons can enjoy their meals at this family-friendly pub/restaurant chain, which serves high-quality meat mains that are superior to typical pub grub found at other places like Weatherspoons. The breakfast menu provides great value for money, with an unlimited continental option including pastries, pancakes, crumpets, fruit, yoghurt, cereals, and more.
I’ve stayed in the Premier Inn a few times and always eat here. Getting the meal deal when you book a room is great value for dinner and breakfast. I would highly recommend if you stopping over in Stroud. The one really nice point is the people who work here are very polite
Happy C — Google review
The food is excellent and offered in generous portions. The service is satisfactory, with some staff members being quite friendly while others may not be as attentive. The ambiance is pleasant, and the pub is well-maintained and clean. I highly recommend it and will certainly return when I'm in Stroud.

Had a wonder breakfast here last Wednesday. Was warmly welcomed into the restaurant by Claire, she showed me to a table and showed me around the buffet area and explained that hot food would be cooked to order whenever I was ready. The service was great, the food was delicious and loved having a decent coffee cup. Would highly recommend

We haven't eaten at this Brewers Fayre place for many years and have been twice in recent weeks. The first time was on a Friday lunchtime, and we hadn't booked. There was plenty of room for us, and the staff were welcoming and helpful. The food was excellent and good value for money. Our second visit was on a Sunday lunchtime for the carvery meal, and this time, we booked online as it was bound to be busier. It was easy to book and we decided to eat at 12.15pm to avoid the very busiest period at 1pm. It was still busy, but their setup for serving food and drink was very efficient. Another great meal, and we were able to benefit from a 25% off email. Convenient location, great variety of quality food and friendly staff. Excellent 😀

The fish and chips meal was poor quality. The batter was soft and rubbery. The staff were hoping to get a new delivery of fish batter soon, as they had received other complaints. The floor was not clean but they said it had been busy.

Staff were v friendly and helpful, but when we arrived for a family breakfast, we were told there were no coffee making facilities, as the machine is broken, and only an urn for tea. Weirdly, we've only visited this place twice, the other was several years ago - and the tea/coffee machine was broken then too!? The water round here is v limescaley - are they not maintaining the equipment correctly? While I was told I could request eggs cooked to order, my poached egg didn't materialise until after I'd finished my meal (and requested it a second time). Otherwise the food was reasonably good, lots of options, regularly restocked. The building is very attractive, and the garden is lovely. Inside, however, the decor is v tired, with paint peeling off the walls.

I came in here with my parents we had a lovely meal and great service. 😄18.5.25 I revisited yesterday as we was passing through. we had great food and service I had a Lebanese lamb kofta with salad and chips. & Flatbread. it was lush.😃

Dined here over the weekend on Friday night, Saturday morning, and Sunday morning. Their menu is adequately varied with a menu similar to weatherspoons basic pub grub, though the quality of the meat mains was superior. Their breakfast, however, was great value for money. for 7.99 you can have an unlimited continental breakfast, including pastries, pancakes, crumpets, fruit, yoghurt, cereals, and I’m sure this is not exhaustive. For just £2 more you can have unlimited hot food too! Beans, sausages, hash browns, bacon, mushroom, black pudding, the works! The only thing I had and didn’t think was good value for money was the max and cheese bites. Unpleasant texture and very bland and expensive.

Woodchester Mansion Trust is a 19th-century Gothic mansion that offers tours showcasing masterful carving and stone masonry craftsmanship. The estate provides ample parking, albeit with a slightly rough driveway, and allows dogs on leads while cautioning visitors of livestock in some areas. With its rolling hills and scenic trails, the property offers breathtaking views to visitors who come highly recommended to enjoy its peaceful ambiance. The magnificent house boasts an intriguing history maintained by volunteers who diligently safeguard it.
The nature of my visit was a paranormal investigation, which took place after closing time. Even though unfinished, you can see what fantastic stonework there is. Some really interesting history and set in a valley with outstanding scenery.
Diane C — Google review
We spent a really nice day here in April. The lakes are beautiful as is the woodland. Lots of birds singing and quite peaceful. We had a very nice outside lunch at the Mansion and the service was very good. The path down to the wood is quite steep, which isn't a problem on the way down, but on the way up we stopped on the strategically positioned bench to get our breath back. Well worth a visit, a beautiful woodland and place to walk - the scale of the map is a bit misleading and distances were further than we thought.
S S — Google review
I've been here many times over the years mainly Paranormal Investigations. Main carpark about a mile walk from the mansion and free if you are a member of the National Trust. There is a mini bus down if get there the right time from the carpark. We have historic houses passes so no fee to get in but pay at front desk. Place is on several levels, never finished legend says the builders were spooked and left their tools. Lots of historic information around and bat observatory with live camera to see where they are. Cafe on site which is really good quality and toilets at the back of the mansion outside. You can walk the grounds all the way to the lake and there's a little boat house there. Very much worth a visit
Corinne D — Google review
Wow… must see extraordinary unfinished mansion…. For the best, Make sure you go during the open season, when you can go inside this huge amazing gothic revival house. Well worth doing the free 90min guided tour … but don’t worry, you can self guide too. It’s a huge place, which was part built 1850-70 and then deserted for 100 years. You can visit the part-completed upper floors & see unfinished construction methods, great stonework. If you miss the open days, go see the outside anyway. It’s a lovely walk. A real hidden gem. A few things : Car park is National Trust. House is a local trust charity. Park & outside house free all year round. House open Fri-Sun spring to late October - see website. Loos & small coffee shop only open when house open.
Phil K — Google review
A beautiful wooded valley with grassland and lakes down the middle of the valley. At the top end of the lakes is the site of a large Victorian mansion that construction stopped once the stonework was done so its great to see how these buildings are made with no plaster or wood flooring to cover the stone work up. It's quite a long walk and hilly although there is a bus to the mansion if needed. No phone reception, unless your at the top of the valley sides. Great place to see bluebells at the right time of the year
A S — Google review
A fascinating place. It's isolated in a lovely valley away from roads so you can either walk to it or a minibus takes you there in about eight minutes along a track. Three architects were involved in its building, including AW Pugin at the planning stage. It was never finished or occupied so while it looks complete from the outside the inside shows the structure and the building methods used brilliantly. There are some really beautiful rooms including one which was completed for the visit of a 19th century archbishop of Westminster. I particularly liked the bathroom with a very chilly looking stone bath fed by gargoyle taps and an astonishing early shower. It's run by a wonderful trust who have made fantastic strides in restoring it but deserve and need support to do more. I strongly recommend it to any lover of 19th century neo-gothic architecture. It's a gem.
Mark S — Google review
Absolutely stunning Gothic-style house, beautiful surroundings and with a fascinating history. The architecture and craftsmanship of the building have to been seen to be appreciated. A 1-hour tour is included in the ticket price, and is well worth doing if you wish to understand a little more about the house and its history. Our guide, Fiona, really knew her stuff and and was able explain things in an understandable manner. You are also free to wander round the house as you wish. The toilet facilities are a little limited. The car park is separately owned by the National Trust and the track to it from the road is in a shocking state. It's about a 15min downhill walk from the car park to the house, and somewhat longer on the return (uphill!). A shuttle bus operates in both directions for those who wish to use it. The ticket price of £11 (with a £1 discount for concessions), with all that is included, is good value for money.

A magical place, hidden in an enchanted valley with lakes and paths that will bring you to this bizarre architectural destination. The guide and the people at the reception are so passionate, welcoming, kind...we did the guided tour and it was the chance to discover the history and details of this mansion. We had lunch at the cafeteria and it tasted great! Lovely pic nic area. Parking is easy to reach and then if needed there is a shuttle service every hour. We enjoyed the walk (around 10/15 minutes) to get there! It is an hidden gem of the Cotswolds :) Thank you for the lovely experience!

Park
Nature & Parks
Woodchester Park, owned by the National Trust, is a picturesque 18th and 19th-century estate nestled in a gently-sloping valley near Stroud. The park features five lakes, an unfinished mansion, and a boathouse from the 19th century. Families can enjoy the waymarked play trail with various activities along its two-mile circular route.
Lovely area to go for a walk. Three paths to follow at varying lengths. Dogs welcome but must be on lead. Cafe to have a drink before or after your walk. Parking available but not free.
Martina F — Google review
Lovely place for a dog walk - paths were steep but there was a recently added accessible route which was nice to see. We did the 'blue walk' which involved some hills but was not too challenging and had a cold drink at the cafe after. Noticed an earlier review said there are no dog poo bins - this is incorrect information as we used one while there. Dogs are allowed in one side of the cafe or there is outdoor seating, some of which is undercover. I was also able to fill our dogs water bowl at an outdoor tap labelled as safe drinking water.
Fiona K — Google review
Beautiful walk, can be challenging on certain parts. But there are a couple of different walks to choose from. Accessible route available as well. Lovely helpful staff, dog friendly. Requires dogs on leads when livestock around as normal. Cafe was nice, delicious National Trust cakes as well and they have a pizza oven there as well, however we didn't try this on our visit.

Had a lovely walk today. We took the blue path which took us roughly 90 mins. Steep in places and walking back up took some effort but worth it. Beautiful views, well maintained and thoroughly enjoyed it. Stopped for a quick lunch stop beforehand at Tinkley gate cafe. Delicious freshly baked pizza, cheese scone, cream tea and victoria sponge cake. Good range of cold drinks and lovely pot of tea. Excellent service, Highly recommend 🌟🌟

Such an awesome place. Great for families to chill by the cafe and play sports or wander down to the valley for the lakes The views are amazing when the sun is out Highly recommended and you only have to pay for parking or free for NT members Note: path to the lakes is steep. Not ideal for old folk! Its approx 1 mile from cafe to boathouse
Gary T — Google review
This is a lovely place. I didnt know anything about this place before I arrived, but I left loving it! Many of the paths appear to be new and they are building lots of paths and walls to make it even nicer. The views and scenery are fantastic. There are a few hills, especially on the way back!! The cafe is new and is really nice and the staff are all really friendly. I definitely recommend coming here and if I am in this area again, I will return.

Always a great vibe at New Lawn. Done both hospitality and been in the stands, both experiences are top and the food in the concourse is brilliant, as well as the food stalls/vans outside the stadium.

Not a bad stadium. On the smaller side. Decent pitch. Nice football club. All vegan food. Decent enough grand stand. Enjoyed my visit to FGR as a home fan. However, a terrible awayday as an away fan.
Daniel M — Google review
Small for the league, sadly only has vegan food but the chips were enjoyable. Nothing of note really.
Lucas — Google review
Season ticket holder, so I'm bound to love it. A great family atmosphere and sustainable ethics throughout the club. Away fans are not usually very complimentary due to the parking and their open terrace.
Dave H — Google review
Sorry to say this is one of the worst experiences as an away supporter that I've had for many many years and it continues year after year. We had 833 there for FGR v Exeter on a Tuesday evening out of a crowd of 2,631, 32%. Absolutely no facilities outside the ground for City supporters, on arrival we were told we were not allowed in their bar or anywhere else inside even though their new rules on parking mean supporters have to be dropped off to stand in the cold – the temperature was 1C! Given the ground wasn’t open the only option was either to stand and freeze or take the long walk down to the village and then face the 25 minute walk back up the (very steep) hill for the game which I did, a tough walk for anyone! The area where the coaches used to park and where the marquee was for visiting supporters to have a drink is still there and wasn’t used for anything that I could see just some additional parking for a few home supporters. A completely understaffed and sized refreshment kiosk, better suited to a crowd of fifty or so, the queue started before half time and there were still people waiting to be served twenty or so minutes into the second half. Seemingly no tannoy in the away areas so impossible to hear any announcements which surely contravenes H&S? Only one set of toilets at one end, and of course the opposite end of the ground to the seats where those with limited mobility would be seated. The small "covered" standing area (three terrace steps that you pay extra for) is only (possibly) covered if the rain is blowing from behind the small stand! The only good thing is the stewards were very good and respectful.
Neil M — Google review
Pleasant stadium in a beautiful area, but it's remoteness makes getting to and from the ground difficult and driving there will involve a reasonable walk up a big hill. The stadium facilities are to a good standard, but the food and drink service seems to struggle when capacity goes above a few hundred. We didn't even bother to try and get a beer, but queued for 40 minutes to get chips in the away end. Another ground ticked off, but I wouldn't rush back.

Forest Green Rovers .. Football League Two club. Eco friendly.. owned by Dale Vince - Ecotricity Company. Club bar (BrewDog, Cider etc) Food is vegan and chips etc.
Satellite A — Google review
Good experience, parking easy enough on street or at club. Yes all the food and drink is vegan but it was actually really good and it didn't ruin our day going without animal products. Local fans very friendly, staff really accomodating, always has been a nice away trip and the developed stadium adds to that.

Stroud Brewery & Taproom is a vibrant hub for beer enthusiasts and food lovers alike, nestled in the heart of Stroud. Established in 2006 by Greg Pilley, this brewery began as a passion project aimed at crafting exceptional beers while promoting sustainability. Today, it stands as a beloved local landmark offering an impressive array of organic dishes alongside its brews. Visitors can indulge in wood-fired pizzas, locally sourced burgers, and delightful small plates throughout the week.
Visited on a Friday late afternoon (4:30pm) whilst on holiday in the area. The atmosphere is warm and cosy and we were greeted with a smile by all staff. We'd booked ahead and requested room for a pushchair so we were shown to a booth. Great beer selection and a great food menu - both the usual menu and pizza were being served at the time we went. The food was really tasty and so nice to read about how locally the produce is sourced. We will 100% visit again and would recommend to others.
Steph D — Google review
I was taken to Stroud brewery by a local. I am a fan of craft beer and cider and this place will not disappoint! They have a main tab room bar. Bench style Bavarian seating with some booths and an open kitchen (serving hundreds of wood fire pizzas which looked amazing) It has welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff and a range of non beer drinks from those who aren’t beer lovers. What I liked is that there was a range of strengths in the beers served. On tap were a 0.5 and 2.5 beer to offer less boozy options. The beers made on site are great. The wheat beer special was a real highlight for me, on par with the European wheat beers in Germany / Belgium. The 2.5 season citrus beer was also very quaffable. What makes this place is community. There are postered everywhere for local clubs, bands, associations and events. My friend tells me they hosted Stroud Pride and I saw yoga, gigs, reading clubs all advertised. The outside area on the canal is well thought out and will be amazing in the summer and there is a balcony bar upstairs. (Booked for a wedding) Highly recommend as a place to spend an afternoon at the weekend. They also showed the six nations so it’s always a good place in my book ;). Will look to return when visiting again.
Jonners U — Google review
My first ever visit here my partner had researched to visit whilst we were walking the canal. Very different and unique and I particularly like the vibe. Plenty of posters of events on which I will be attending. We were able to order food even though it was a Saturday afternoon and found a table, ordered pizza which was very nice. Wasn't the greatest coffee I've had if I am honest could be improved. Toilets were quirky and clean. My only gripe I don't know if it had been a busy day but staff did not seem overly enthusiastic, not a single smile, even walking in and leaving passed several staff no acknowledgement, now normally I would walk right out at such things but put it down to being a Saturday afternoon, but could do with improving you never know who is walking in that door or leaving and what kind of Google reviewer they are!!😉 I will be returning though

Great place next to the canal , friendly staff , relax , spent hours without releasing that your there . Don’t go! Youl definitely will loose half a day there. Food is great ! No doubt about it but menu are alittle small but that also make it great , awesome . Go for the beers and stay for the relaxing atmosphere next to the cannel . Absolutely fantastic venue. We had the pulled pork rolls which were amazing. They even catered for vegans and coeliacs. All communication was with Ellie and she was fantastic and always ready to answer any queries. Ben made sure we had everything we needed on the day, also the bar staff were amazing.

Planned family meeting for early dinner on Saturday night. No pork or chicken dishes were available for any menu item, which limited our choices severely. The Brewery was busy and had a great atmosphere but the food experience was slightly disappointing and service was very slow, even at only 6pm. Drinks, as expected, were fine!

Haresfield Beacon & Standish Wood, located near Whiteshill Village in Stroud, Gloucestershire, offers stunning views of the surrounding valley and a rich historical experience. The walk to the top of Haresfield Beacon is not too strenuous and provides rewarding views. Dogs can roam freely while visitors explore neolithic and bronze age barrows as well as iron age dykes along the route.
We found it today and loved it. Free parking and if you drive a little up the road there is more parking more places to walk and coffee pod . No toilets. Steap in some places and very windy on a windy day so hold your little children :) We will be back there for more beautiful walks .

Lovely walks in whatever direction you decide to go with exceptional views over the Stroud Valleys. The Cotswold Way has wonderfully laid walkways between the trees & out into the open areas. Beautiful scenery as we kept on climbing up to the top of the Haresfield Beacon! We lost our way as we turned right, instead of turning left at the National Trust's Shortwood sign. Our walk became more interesting because of that. We had to go through a big tree fallen across the path and also had to walk over some logs laid down to cross over a boggy path! We reached our destination finally!

Nestled in the unspoilt Cotswold town of Nailsworth, Egypt Mill Hotel & Restaurant offers cosy and minimalist rooms within a 16th-century corn mill. Guests can enjoy a complimentary breakfast and dine at the on-site restaurant, which serves a variety of meals including sourdough pizzas. We can’t recommend Egypt Mill enough. We got married on 03.10.25 and from the moment we booked our wedding back at the end of 2022, everything has been absolutely seamless. The whole process has been stress free thanks to the incredible team, especially Lauren, who went above and beyond to make sure every single detail was perfectly organised. She is such an amazing person and all our family and friends agreed when they saw how wonderful she made our wedding day. Nothing was ever too much trouble, communication was always clear and friendly, and we felt supported from start to finish. On the day, everything ran flawlessly, the venue looked stunning and exactly as we imagined. The team were amazing, and it genuinely felt like our dream wedding come to life. Thank you to Lauren and everyone at Egypt Mill, for giving us the most magical day we could have ever imagined. We’ll treasure the memories forever and hope to stay in touch.

Just returned from a few days in this excellent hotel. Ideally located it offers the best of everything, good food, charming service and a room with the utmost cleanliness. The staff should be very proud as they provide a very pleasant and first class experience. It is hard to find fault at all. If we were to nit pick for aging people like ourselves easier access to terrestrial TV programmes in the room would be welcome. However this is not to detract from wonderful service with a smile and tasty food. Great breakfasts by the way.

We stayed at Egypt Mill in Nailsworth and had an outstanding experience. Nailsworth itself has plenty of eateries, coffee shops, and even the quirky road known as “The W,” but Egypt Mill really stood out. The car park is huge, and the historic mill buildings with the walkway over the stream make for a beautiful setting. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming — they even let us check in early when we asked about parking. Our room was lovely: spacious, with a large TV, gorgeous views of the streams and gardens, and a really peaceful atmosphere. Breakfast was a highlight — a proper full English, perfectly cooked, with staff who couldn’t have been more helpful. We also ate in the restaurant one evening, both opting for ribeye steaks, which were cooked to absolute perfection. Overall, a wonderful stay in a unique and picturesque setting. We’ll definitely be back.

Just enjoyed a 2 night break at Egypt Mill and what an amazing place. We were greeted by a warm and friendly welcome. Our rooms were perfect and had everything we needed for our stay. We had breakfast and dinner there too and the staff and food were incredible and give us 5 star service. Nothing was too much trouble. All the staff should be commended for exceptional service. Food was delicious and pub interior and exterior were beautifully presented. We sat outside by the water and enjoyed drinks in the afternoon. Great meal at Egypt Mill recently. Couple of mistakes on service (didn't bring the complementary kids snack, and had to ask for his ice cream) but nothing major but the food was very good, some better than others but we all really enjoyed it. The burger was excellent one of best I've had in a while. It's a lovely setting as well would definitely recommend

Love this spot. Have been several times. Delicious food and attentive service from Stacey. We made a late booking for 23 people and our food was swiftly ready. Great menu for all dietary needs in the party. Ideal setting for kids to enjoy by the river.

Fish and seafood restaurant
Nestled in the charming town of Nailsworth, William's is a celebrated seafood haven that has been delighting diners since 1975. Founded by the renowned William Beeston, who earned accolades from culinary icon Rick Stein, this multi-award-winning establishment serves as a restaurant, fishmonger, delicatessen, and caterer all rolled into one. Visitors rave about the exceptional quality of produce available at their impressive fish counter and appreciate the reasonable prices offered.
An amazing evening for my anniversary. Service was great and food was perfect. The fact this restaurant doesn’t apply a service charge, when so many other subpar bad service establishments do, is beyond me. They all deserve a tip for their efforts, really made our night special.

Update When things go wrong Helen put it right and although the experience we had was not good went out of her way to put things right I attended the restaurant for my mothers 79 birthday When I left the restaurant with my mother still sitting at the table to collected her birthday present from the car, and I was heading away from the restaurant that I had eaten at many times before two staff came running after me my mother stood up and stated I was not doing a runner and I was embarrassed then I had to say I was going to collect the surprise from the car . Felt horrified . When I addressed the issues they stated I was looking to py and was lost we just ordered our desert!. I will never eat there again and will tell as many people as possible my dreadful experience.

If you like seafood and good wine, this place is absolutely outstanding! The service, the timing from order to table, i literally have nothing critical to say in the slightest! They even brought out a vase of water to put my friends flowers in while we ate. Thank you! We had 2 starters, a side of fries and 2 light mains and that was more than enough for us 2. Stunning food!

If we are talking fish, this is the place to go in Nailsworth. We often see the fish lorry dilivering fresh from Brixham. Beautiful garden to sit outside in and to watch the world go by.

Nice cafe atmosphere, beautiful food and great service. We had lunch and as long as you like seafood you are in for a real treat. We booked online and received a warm welcome on arrival. The food was well presented and tasted fantastic.

So far been twice. Each time food and service has been excellent. There is a good range of options in terms variety, but also price and portions. So everyone can choose what suits them best and can therefore accommodate differing tastes and budget to an extent. Pricey yes, but at least the quality matches that price level. Elsewhere, this is not always the case. Interesting and changing menu. Ingredients are fresh, and the cooking is executed well. Yum.

My girlfriend booked a table here for my birthday, and even though expectations were high, we were both thoroughly impressed. And considering we had a couple of drinks, a bottle of wine and a cocktail, the overall price was pretty reasonable. Photos include the chowder, duck terrine, oysters, Thai monkfish, and grilled tuna steak. The grilled tuna was possibly the most enjoyable piece of fish I've ever had.

If you’re in the area and like seafood then this is an absolute must. Great service and staff, good wine selection. Food was delicious and didn’t disappoint. Highly recommend. Pictures attached. Starters , Tuna carpaccio, pan fried scallops with poached pear. Mains, rolled lemon sole & split giant prawns. Dessert, chocolate tart & raspberry crème brûlée. All washed down with chilled Pinot Grigio. 👌

The Bowbridge Arms is a charming and cozy pub that offers a warm atmosphere and friendly staff. It's known for its delicious Sunday roasts, with excellent meat and well-prepared vegetables. The pub is also very dog-friendly, even offering special doggy dinners for furry companions. Visitors have praised the efficient and accommodating staff who provide great service while adhering to safety guidelines. The garden is also a highlight, providing a lovely setting for enjoying meals.
Superb food and excellent service. Faultless experience, and we loved it. Dog friendly too, which was fantastic. They do a doggy roast dinner on Sundays, which looks amazing. We visited on a different day, so we didn't get to do this. But I would highly recommend this place!

We went here in May for a Sunday lunch and the food was truly amazing! The service was very personal and friendly. We had driven by a few times and it looks closed which is why we hadn’t been before, but will definitely go again. Good value too

We held our engagement party here over the summer and everyone had the absolute best time! Jess and the team couldn’t have done any more for us, they looked after us so well in the run up to the event, and on the day itself. It was so special. We had a wonderful selection of pizzas and nibbles. Honestly the best pizza, five stars, recommend every day of the week.

Fantastic pub/restaurant, with some amazing views and great staff. 10-10 for their Sunday roasts and stone baked pizza menu! Vegan/vegi options also available, which is always good. A nice, clean beer garden for sunny summer afternoons. Definitely a must visit if you're in the area.

Staff were so friendly and attentive however the roast was pretty poor, the pork belly was really tough, the potatoes were dry and small and the cauliflower cheese was hard. The yorkshire pudding and gravy was decent though and they gave us a good portion of extra gravy.

We absolutely love the Bowbridge Arms. It’s our lovely local and we recommend it completely. The Bowbridge’s most outstanding asset is the wonderful Suzie. Chinese takeaway
Ben's Takeaway in Kingsstanley is known for its consistently delicious food and welcoming staff. The menu offers a wide variety of options, all of which are prepared with fresh ingredients and served piping hot. The prices are reasonable, making it a great choice for an affordable meal. Many customers have been loyal patrons for years, attesting to the restaurant's quality and reliability. It is highly recommended as a local Chinese establishment that is sure to satisfy cravings and leave customers wanting to return for more.
Had a Chinese takeaway tonight from Ben's in King Stanley. Unfortunately, when we got home, the order wasn't quite correct. My wife called and explained the problem. The guy in the store was very helpful and dispatched a driver to rectify the problem. The driver was very polite and apologised for the mistake. Customer Service was excellent, highly recommended.

We usually love Bens and I have been ordering from them for years. Last week we had a horrible order, there was a centimetre of oil on the top of every dish, including the noodles. When I called this week, I explained how disappointing our meal was, expecting some sort of discount off our next order but no such offer was made. She said she would tell the kitchen and that was that. I proceeded to place the order and have received the exact same oily disgusting food again! This time with a lovely added piece of plastic for my husband to enjoy. Last order from us

The first and last time that we have used them. The food was tasteless compared to our usual Chinese in Stonehouse, mostly noodles in the chow miens, we ordered prawn balls and Chicken balls and both bags had chicken balls in. Very disappointed as we had heard good things about them. The plus side is that our dog will be enjoying the food for the next few days. Sad and sorry but that is how it was.

Restaurant
Galgos Latino is a delightful culinary destination that invites you to embark on an exciting journey through the diverse flavors of Latin America. With a menu brimming with both beloved classics like tacos and nachos, as well as traditional offerings such as Venezuelan-style roasted beef, empanaditas, and fried plantain tostones, there's something for everyone. Vegetarians and vegans will also find plenty of delicious options to savor.
One of the best meals I have had in a while. Lovely and friendly staff who make you feel very welcome and the restaurant is unique. The food is superb, all of our dishes were good. We didn't make it to the desert, just starters and mains. Whilst the dishes don't look huge, it was just the right amount.

It's fine. Service can be patchy. Food not particularly flavoursome, and very expensive when compared to other mexican/Latin American restaurants we've enjoyed. Great margaritas - so would recommend for drinks rather than food. I suppose they can get away with being average when there's not much choice in Stroud.

I have been wanting to try this place for ages and finally got the chance and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious and they have several vegan options which we partner and I loved. The yucca fries are incredible! We also had the most friendly server. Highly recommend!

Called in for a quick after work drink. Though there is no outdoor space the entrance and the open windows let some nice cool breeze in... Very welcome on a hot evening. Hadn't been for a while and there was a new listing of cocktails. I chose the Maya old fashioned and it was really good. Both in taste and looks. I loved the huge ice cube.

Excellent! Great food, freshly cooked, very tasty, variety of flavours and good advice from friendly staff. Warm welcome, prompt service, really enjoyed the visit, many thanks. Not around for long but will try to get there again before we leave.

No way it's a Latin American restaurant. * portions are small * expensive * and most importantly! no taste! We have ordered stews, sides, nachos and everything was so plain! Especially stews! Guys, Google some recipes please.. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone if you have good taste and know what Latin food actually should be. Also, toilets would benefit from more frequent check ups and stocking up!
Edita L — Google review
Authentic and delicious. The restaurant was cosy and service good.

Good quality food although its very expensive considering the portions. The service was very rude even when I was asking for some information about plates. Also, service is very slow, they bring the plates when they want, not all at the same time and 1 beer took 15 min to come to the table. It was good, but I will not come back

Stroud Farmers Market is a bustling and popular market held in the town center every Saturday. It features an array of offerings from Gloucestershire's finest growers, farmers, bakers, artisans, and crafters. Visitors can find fresh produce like fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, microgreens, and herbs as well as locally reared meat and eggs. Handcrafted sourdough bread, cheese, small-batch gin and beer are also available alongside luxury cakes, chocolate, and fudge.
Excellent farmers market. Gluten free coeliac friendly and vegan produce from sue atkins. excellent quality. It's so hard to find really nice tasty gluten free food so really happy to find this place. Will be coming again. Update: gluten free & vegan focaccia breads and scones! A game changer!

Everything you’d expect and more. Local produce, fruit, vegetables, craft beer, local cider, bread, hot food stalls, local honey. Everything you would ever want from a farmers market. Having grown up in a market town this weekly market is fantastic. Huge variety of stalls winding through central Stroud. Fantastic way to start a Saturday morning. Many stalls are there one or twice a month so will be different most weeks.

The market is held Saturday, its 4 mins walk from the station. The market has a great selection of genuine local small producers. The heart of the market is square in a Roman style forum. Lots of nice food stalls, some arts and crafts. Unlike many of these sort of markets, it’s not just disguised chains. I highly recommend it.

Lovely market with organic fruits and vegetables, eggs, honey, fresh meat and bakeries. It was busy as early as 10:00. There is something for everyone. I was happy to see people patronising independent and small businesses. The highlight of my visit to the farmers market was the Salty bakery. They have fresh baked bread and pastries, and some items were already sold out. There was a long queue at the bakery. We bought pain au chocolat and a big round loaf of bread, and they were delicious. I totally recommend Steoud Farmers Market if you are into farmers markets and after fresh products. It is open every Saturday from 9:00 to 14:00

Stratford Park Leisure Centre is a fantastic destination for families, offering a variety of activities for all ages. The outdoor spring-fed pool provides a refreshing spot for swimming during the summer months and features lane swimming sessions as well as family-friendly public swim sessions. Surrounded by beautiful parkland, it's an ideal place to enjoy a sunny day. Additionally, the leisure center offers plenty of open spaces for picnics and dog exercise.
I've been attending the Senior swimming sessions on Friday afternoons for the past few years and find it very beneficial for my health and it fits in with my working life. The staff are all friendly and helpful, the pool and changing rooms are clean, the other swimmers are a FANTASTIC, FRIENDLY GROUP who enjoy this session too. Yes, it pays to book your next swim in advance and I find it easy on the app, but you can book it at the desk if that suits you. Thank you for keeping this facility and session running, it is very important for me.... 5*'s

The pool used to be always very busy and Everyone Active needed to introduce booking limiting the number of swimming slots per hour. The booking was a pain in the bum and pool was still busy. When the council took the pool over, an amazing thing happened! They introduced 4th lane which hugely increased capacity and also removed the need of booking. Each lane had a predefined speed range. It was the best! Sometimes you could come across some selfish, ignorant fart who didn't care about being in everybody's way in the wrong lane but they were manageable. It's beyond any comprehension why they removed the 4th lane now. It's not only a drop in capacity by ~30%, but also removal of a good, explicitly defined structure and guidelines for the lane selection. I am very disappointed 😞
Lukasz N — Google review
Been a member for 2-3 years now and nothing's really changed even though recently it went from private to council, the staff are lovely can't fault them HOWEVER they literally have no clue on what to do with problems regarding the app you use to book classes, for weeks now I've had to pay for classes and go in to ask for refunds, £4.40 each time then I get random strokes and bans come out of nowhere which again charges me £3.50 to lift, the changing rooms stink regardless what is used or how often it is cleaned and sometimes it's really bad, I've noticed also since the council has taken over the water in the indoor pool is constantly dirty, you see rubbish, hair, cloudines, all sorts of little bits, the classes are good the management are nowhere to be seen and if you try and ring you will never get a answer! Even emailing them they take ages to get back to you and still don't resolve the problems! Going back to the changing rooms they are a state the lockers have been there for decades some don't work some don't have tags and some swallow your coons, currently there's a bodge job bucket holding up part of the ceiling with this tube of fluid coming from another part of the ceiling where clearly there's a leak and it doesn't look good neither does it look safe, the gym is limited in terms of machines in comparison to other gyms and the prices have gone up since the council have taken over. As for the classes the coaches are amazing, they are very interactive and knowledgeable, all the staff are friendly polite and helpful however it's like they've been trained to just say I'll pass it on to my manager! For me o have no choice but to use this gym, it's close to home I get a concession rate due to my disabilities and I need the pool due to those disabilities. 1 last thing and I think this is quite serious however at the time it was amusing, this evening I left the pool showered and got changed to find myself locked in a closed leisure center and as I tried to exit the alarms went off and I was extremely concerned that armed police were coming or something bad was going to happen, it wasn't good for my anxiety and I had to go on Facebook live to make sure I had witnesses to prove I was locked in and didn't break in, usually the staff are supposed to check if the place is empty and clearly my car was in thencar park and a few familiar members of staff who knew I was swimming are aware I take longer to get dressed and they usually wait and are supposed to wait until everyone has left and it is my belief they are also paid until 22:30pm it was 22:20pm when I went to exit after the lifeguard blows the whistle at 22:00pm leaving me 20 minutes to shower and get changed. I am considering going elsewhere even if it costs more and means I have to travel further as my problems with the app haven't been resolved, the changing rooms smell like a tip, and I've complained about the same thing over and over again getting absolutely nowhere with them. If you can go to another gym I honestly would advise you to steer clear.
Byron T — Google review
Extortionate! Everything’s always closed for cleaning and maintenance every 5 minutes yet the change rooms and sauna always stink. With ample space in the gym there’s always a vital section, used by many for stretching and workouts, closed off for classes.. the machines are constantly broken. Why is it so expensive. The only change that’s been made since the takeover of the council is the colour of the walls and cafe. Oh and the sauna which the public had to organise to get sorted and repaired. The gym section seems neglected while all the attention and funding goes toward the cafe and kids park. Deep cleaning of a gym should be an everyday thing. Not a “let it get dirty to a point it needs to be closed for cleaning and maintenance” . Prevention is better than cure. Do better !
Richard I — Google review
Massive downhill since the Council took over the running. I use the sports hall on an ad hoc basis to have a game of badminton with the grandkids. Pre Council booking was really simple and reasonably priced. Now prices have rocketed and booking online the price charged never agrees to the price list on their website. I query this every time and am told they are aware of these issues and it will soon be sorted, but it never is. Also it is now impossible to book 2 courts for the same time.
Adrian P — Google review
The gym does the job but some of the fixed weight machines need an upgrade. Also please provide some proper workout mats, not Yoga rolled up mats. Decor is a bit tired and dated.
Mark J — Google review
This place is absolutely disgusting and filthy. The building hasn’t been updated since it was built, presumably in the 70s. The pool area is completely neglected. The water is visibly dirty The surrounding area is poorly maintained, the grass is dry and gets into the pool, and people walk barefoot from all over the dirty territory straight into the water. There is no regulation of the number of visitors they let in absolutely everyone who shows up, without any limits. So even if you book tickets, it’s pointless the place gets overcrowded to the point where the pool turns into a filthy mess, not a place for swimming. The experience is absolutely revolting. Don’t waste your time and money we sincerely hope you don’t repeat our mistake.

Customers appreciate the transparency and honesty displayed by James when discussing car details and paperwork. The overall experience at Painswick Valley Car Sales Ltd has been described as fantastic, with customers traveling long distances to purchase their desired vehicles.
Excellent company to buy from. It was my first car purchase from Painswick and the whole experience has been great. James is very professional and great to work with. The car I bought has impeccable service history and James went the extra mile to contact Bristol Street motors to get additional information for me. James is very confident in the quality of the cars he sells which means he buys well. The car came with full MOT and no advisories and was delivered to my home on time as informed. We'll definitely buy again.

Best car buying experience I've ever had. James is knowledgeable and helpful without pushing or going for the hard sell. He went out of his way to ensure I could test drive a car that I'd seen on the website but was temporarily off site being valeted. And when I changed my mind and showed interest in a different car, he patiently took me through the information on that one as well. I collected a beautiful mini clubman cooper s today, and I'm so delighted with it. Many thanks to James for his transparency, attention to detail, and absolutely outstanding fairness throughout the whole buying process.

I recently bought a car from Painswick Car Sales, and I couldn’t be happier with both the vehicle and the experience. From the very first enquiry, James, the proprietor, was professional, friendly and incredibly helpful. He took the time to answer all of my questions, gave honest and knowledgeable advice, and made the whole process completely stress-free. The car was exactly as described — clean, well presented and clearly well cared for. You can really tell that James takes pride in what he does and puts customer satisfaction first. There was never any pressure, just genuine support in helping me find the right car. I would absolutely recommend Painswick Car Sales to anyone looking for a trustworthy, straightforward buying experience. A true five-star service from start to finish.

Amazing experience from start to finish with James. Contacted to arrange a viewing and viewed the next day. The car had recently arrived so was un prepped. James went through everything that he would do before sale to the car to make sure it was perfect. Reserved the car and agreed a pick up date after any required work was done. Phone call on the morning of collection to confirm pick up time. Arrived to pick up and the car was immaculate, very clean and all work discribed carried out to high standard. Overall great experience from start to finish. James was great to deal with and very knowledgeable on his product. Wanted to do anything he could to help us. 100% recommend

Took my mum here in the week. We went for dinner around 8pm. It was fairly quiet. Excellent service, polite and friendly staff. Nice decor. We ordered the seafood sharing platter as a gluten free option. It came with glutenfree bread. I was worried it wouldn't be enough for 2 people but I wasnt disappointed, there was more than enough for two. We both really enjoyed it and highly recommend it. Beautifully cooked and presented... Disability accessible with a disabled toilet on the ground floor for those that require it. As mentioned above, Gluten-free options available.

Sadly, as travelers, most of the places that have been recommended to us were pubs and fried fish joints. The Corner House was a turn for the better! The food here honestly did come out quite nicely plated and the taste was a pleasant surprise! Flavors were nicely balanced and full of delicious flavor. The prices are reasonable, the portion sizes are great, and the service was excellent. This is a nicer place to go for a better dining experience with a fair amount of menu options. The Monk Fish was our favorite. We write more reviews on our EatWanderExplore blog.

Thursday 24/04/2025:- My first visit to the Corner House since it moved from its original site on the London Road to Union Street (previously Birch). Shared a seafood platter for lunch with a friend which was very nice. Our server Antonio was personable and very helpful. Not many customers despite the restaurant offering 25% off food. The autistics are challenging with other people's chatter and laughter reverberating around the room. Not for the hard-of-hearing.

Returning from France or Italy or wish to go, then this is the restaurant to visit. A welcome small menu allowing the chefs to concentrate on quality. Excellent presentation of food and brilliant service. We had a sharing seafood platter. A test of any restaurant is the quality of the calamari - first class, cooked to perfection. A nice selection of lagers\beer on tap with again a small selection of good wines. Middle range cost for high range food, a serious competitor to Cheltenham restaurants. Well done the corner house. An update as we have this week enjoyed dinner for the first time at this restaurant with two friends. What a treat, faultless cuisine and a very good small menu. Presentation of the food is very impressive. Staff are terribly efficient and always helpful. We went on Friday night and my goodness we are not the only people who think this restaurant is at the top of the game. It was very busy clearly the staff were used to this. A great buzz to the restaurant. A lovely evening thank you Corner House.

I've eaten in some very nice places but I have to say the corner house blew me away! Some of the best food I've ever tasted, staff were very friendly and helpful, building was very cool, cocktails were fantastic and it was exceptional value. Cannot recommend this place enough!

A second visit to this restaurant and if anything it was better than before. The welcome was warm, service was just the right level of attentive, and most importantly the food was excellent. We often have issue having a vegan in the group and the menu wasn't looking too hopeful but there was a risotto starter which they offered to make vegan as a main course which went down very well. The waiter also had no problem with our small appetite person ordering a starter sized starter for her main course. The atmosphere is very relaxed and we felt under no pressure to hurry along or clear the table. I am sure that we will return soon.

Spice Lounge in Stroud is a highly recommended Indian restaurant that offers exceptional food and service. Visitors have praised the delicious dishes and the attentive staff, with one particular mention of Ayman for his outstanding service. The restaurant's inviting aroma has drawn in patrons who were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, deeming it one of the best restaurants in the UK. Guests are eager to return for another delightful dining experience at Spice Lounge due to its welcoming atmosphere and delectable cuisine.
I visited on a Sunday evening and so was able to take advantage of the special offer for £14.95 - starter, main, side, plus rice/naan (also available on Wednesdays). The quality of the food was excellent, so I can highly recommend this place. Total bill for the meal and a pint of beer was just £20 (plus a tip) so it's a bargain!

I live in Bristol and recently went on holiday in Stroud with my friend Nahid, who recommended having dinner at Spice Lounge Restaurant. We decided to try it, and it was absolutely worth it! The food was mouthwatering, full of flavour, and perfectly cooked. The service was top-class — the staff were friendly and attentive throughout our meal. I highly recommend Spice Lounge to anyone looking for a great dining experience. You won’t be disappointed!

BLOODY BEAUTIFUL! The food is absolutely gorgeous, best Indian I’ve ever had hands down! It’s creamy but not too rich and sickly. The flavours are impeccable and presentation is good. We had the Chicken Kurma and the Chicken Tikka Masala😋 Staff inside are very professional and polite, with quick service! Mr Jay our sever was wonderful, friendly, funny and nothing was too much for him. Should definitely get a pay raise! Will definitely be returning for the sit in again. Highly recommend!

Gorgeous meal, with lemon rice & mild butter chicken with a lovely coconut flavour. Waiters very attentive especially Hassan. Lovely relaxing music, friendly atmosphere. Only passing through Stroud but would definitely return if local.

The customer service and the attention to detail was impeccable, we came here for a big birthday and they catered to us to every degree, the staff went above and beyond. Moreover, the food was even better, their recommendations were down to a tea and honestly can’t complain (esp coming from a big fussy family !!) HASSAN provided impeccable customer service and I hope he goes far in life and we will be be seeing him again soon, thank you spice lounge 🤩🤩

We visited this amazing restaurant on a short stay whilst visiting Stroud and what a find, absolutely one of the best Indian restaurants I have been in.The first thing was the decor and furniture it's looks very nice, the staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble, the Manager Ayman is very good at his job and extremely welcoming, giving great advice about the dishes on offer, explaining the ingredients. Great service plays a big part in the overall experience. The food is exceptional and cooked by someone that knows his trade. I highly recommend this place.

Chicken tikka biryani delivered to home. Unfortunately, the rice was too wet and very little chicken present + cut into miserable tiny pieces. It was more like someone had made a risotto and added chicken and some spices. This is the second poor order in a year. I'll try elsewhere.

Fast food restaurant
McDonald's is a timeless fast-food institution celebrated for its iconic burgers and crispy fries. During my recent visit to the Stroud location, I encountered a bit of a challenge with the limited parking space, which was situated on a slope that made navigating tricky. Despite this minor setback, I managed to find a spot and was greeted by friendly staff who provided excellent service. The food arrived piping hot and delicious, making it all worthwhile!
10/10, restaurant was clean, food was fast, fresh and really well made :)

Took too much time to prepare the food, alot of staff member but still took so much time for food that need to be delivered. They need to hire more staff to as the current staff is unable to make the food on time.
Maaz K — Google review
Every time I order for delivery, something is missing. Whether it’s the food items or the sauces (which now you have to pay for). It’s frustrating to pay for items and not receiving them, especially when this keeps happening. It’s careless, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. Please improve your order accuracy and make sure all items are properly included before sending deliveries out. I’ve given multiple chances, but clearly consistency here only applies to making mistakes.

we ordered a meal and it was delivered to us however our mayo chicken burger didnt arrive even though we paid for it and it was on the receipt. i called mcdonalds and someone picked up and when i alerted then they hung up straight away which is poor customer service. following this i called again and this time someone else picked up this time they were a lot nicer and helped me on what to do he also appologised for the inconvenience
Zog B — Google review
Absolute garbage service. McDelivery missing items, and all you get is refund on missing item. No refund on delivery. No financial penalty to McDonald's that would incentivise them to get their act together. Shoddy service. Yet most other takeaways manage to get it right or go out their way to correct.

Only a one as can’t give a 0! 50mins for a drive through beginning to end… what a joke! Fast food .. huh not here! Extremely rude young girl working the collection window! Moaned about me to another member of staff as I questioned where I could possibly park when the car park was full and asked how long the wait would be as I had two young kids screaming in the car . Fourth awful experience at this venue, NEVER returning!
Hannah R — Google review
If I could leave a 0 star for this place I would. Waited for over 3 hours for the food to be prepared and delivered only for it to cancelled. Spoke to the manager who was straight it rude and didn’t seem to care .. avoid this place like the plague

Elliot, midnight gatekeeper of the golden arches, broke protocol like Moses parting fries—while we, the wandering apostles of song, marched through the drive-thru on foot, whispering our hunger as prayer; and lo, the McDonald’s Messiah granted us passage, forty nuggets deep, salvation crisped in oil, proving once and for all that even the holiest miracles come with dipping sauce.

Indian restaurant
Spice House is an impressive establishment with exceptional cuisine that receives a perfect rating of 10 out of 10. The service provided is remarkable and the food served is truly splendid. I would strongly advise anyone to try this restaurant as it surpasses the quality offered by its neighboring eatery, Rajdoot.
I had a wonderful experience at Zeera Indian Restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious – full of authentic flavours, cooked fresh, and beautifully presented. Every dish we tried had the perfect balance of spice and taste, especially the curries which were rich and satisfying. The service was just as impressive – friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. The restaurant itself is clean, comfortable, and a lovely place to enjoy a meal. Overall, Zeera is one of the best places for Indian food in Stroud, Gloucestershire. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for quality food and great service. I’ll definitely be coming back again!

Vegetable korma was SPICY. Service is terrible. Waited 20 minutes for poppadoms then waited another 30 minutes to have my order taken for mains. I ordered a garlic and cheese naan and a veg korma. I got a onion and cheese naan and a spicy veg korma. When I told the lady it was wrong she sent the chef out to argue and belittle me. I then called the boss over to tell him I would not be paying for the veg korma as they failed to re change it. I paid for the other £75 of my order. Just not the £5 side dish of the horrible disgusting spicy cold korma. I was then told to get out of the restaurant and told not never come back. I go to zeera weekly with family and spend approximately £70 - £80 a time. Very very disappointed with zeera after this and i definitely won’t be coming back

Clearly change management, food used to be top quality but now poor, tiny portions and salad with popadoms was onion and carrot, no seasoning. Also ordered for 7.15 came out at 7.25 - so had to pay for taxi to wait. This is the second time having a poor meal, pretty sure the owner/manager is the same guy who had it as spice house or something about 10 years ago and the food was poor then. Wouldnt recommend and will not use again

I was unsure coming here for the first time due to the negative reviews. I don’t know if staff have changed but I honestly don’t think we could have had a better experience. The food took about half an hour to come but that was fine for us and thinking to be expected where food is freshly prepared. Each dish was distinctly different, no generic base sauces or over use of food colouring. Really delicious, lovely flavours and textures and tested freshly cooked. Service was great, friendly, communicative and you can bring your own alcohol which makes a dinner out much cheaper. A great find, will definitely be going back.

Absolutely exceptional! The food is sublime/exquisite! Paired with the completely brilliant very attentive and accommodating staff made my experience fantastic.Visited this evening with my flatmate and will definitely be going back, I would highly recommend the banquet on offer. Very good value and so much food we actually took half home! Just WOW and a true credit to Stroud

We booked online to dine in at 7pm on a Saturday, the place was empty without any music- never a good sign. We had to wait a long time to be given menus and our drinks order was never taken. The person who worked there was in the kitchen the whole time, presumably dealing with takeaway orders. In the 20mins we were there, we were given menus and a poppadom- food and drinks orders were never taken so we decided to pay for the poppadom and leave. I do not recommend dining here; customer service was non-existent.
