Located just a short distance from the historic town center of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Fondation Maeght is a hilltop museum and sculpture garden that showcases an impressive collection of 20th-century artworks by renowned artists such as Calder, Miró, and Chagall.
DEFINITELY worthwhile! My husband and I spent just over 3 hours admiring all the art inside and outside the gallery and then having a simple lunch outside in the restaurant. It was a wonderful way to spend the day. Whether or not you are an art lover, I think you would enjoy this museum. It's beautiful with plenty of room for everyone to enjoy the artwork. The outside area is peaceful and has stunning views of the town below too. Food in restaurant was very good. Plenty of parking at the bottom of the hill. Not necessary to speak French to enjoy. Tickets are easily purchased onsite. Nice gift shop too.

Amazing place. Exciting, beautiful, well curated. A must- see. You need 3 hours at least yo enjoy it. There’s a nice restaurant and Bar with art all around in the sculpture garden.
Brian C — Google review
One of the best museums I’ve visited. The architecture itself is really nice , and the sculpture garden is beautiful and relaxing, complete and offers a café for coffee or a bite to eat. The collection is thoughtfully curated. Plan to spend at least three hours to fully enjoy it, and arrive early as it can gets busy after 12.
Tonia I — Google review
Beautiful and monumental spot with stunning form and broad collection of contemporary artists. The architecture is stunning, combined with nature and beautiful view, creates unique and one of the kind atmosphere. It’s also great to sit in the garden cafe house and admire the sculptures around. The prices are quite high but it’s still worth visiting at least once.
Zuzanna S — Google review
My first visit here was in 1990. It was like discovering a rare, precious gem. On my latest visit, 40 years later, the magic and charm continues on... it is without doubt my most favourite art museum anywhere in the world!! The location amongst natural parkland, with glimpses to the sea in the distance, is bomeyond spectacular! Dining on the open terrace, next to the Chagall mural and by the stained glass of the chapel is something not to miss. I will certainly visit again, next time I'm in the south of France.
Julie R — Google review
In my opinion one of the finer museums in the world. Restorative experience amidst the pine trees. Timeless mid century modern architecture with sculpture garden featuring works by Henry Moore, Calder and especially Miro. Impressive collection of 20th century modern art. Plan two hours minimum to enjoy the place. Early morning is nice and quiet, especially in the off-season. If you’re outside on the terrace around 12:00 plus 12:07, you can hear chapel bells ring.
Sven — Google review
A lovely day out from Nice. I had been to the Fondation a number of years ago when, I thought it just ok. But a major extension and renovation in 2022-24 has yielded great results. The gardens were always beautiful. But now the indoor galleries are way more extensive now showing off the beautiful collection. Plus their restaurant is lovely. We had lunch by the fountain. I highly recommend a visit.
George W — Google review
This is an A+ museum. The art aside, there has been extensive steps taken to aid visitors to discover during their visit. The grounds are so pleasant. I highly recommend taking time to get a beverage and grab a chair outside to people watch and enjoy the sculptures while listening to birds chirp.

Cafe

Brewery
Café de la Place is a charming and traditional French brasserie that offers a nostalgic atmosphere, making visitors feel like they've stepped back in time. It's an authentic cafe with a basic menu, offering mainly meat-based options along with some vegetarian choices like paninis and salads. The ambiance is perfect for enjoying a leisurely lunch or just sipping on a drink while soaking in the surroundings.
We had lunch here on my birthday, Feb 23rd 2024 - the sun was out, temperature was juuuust above 18 degrees, not too many tourists yet and a very nice spot in the sun besides the infamous boule-lane where a couple of guys were showing of their skills. Service is very polite, efficient and with a nice sense og humor - we had a couple of Nicoise-salads which were big, colorful, tasy and very french. Good comfort food! A few softdrinks and a decent prices bill ended our lunch after about 2 hours in the sun. As a birthday present, I really could not ask for more. Enjoy!
Morten K — Google review
The most unfriendly waiters I’ve met in France. They just put the two sandwiches on ONE plate and literally slid it on the table. On the verge of being rude they left the feeling that we are somehow bothering them by having come to have some food. The paninis tasted ok. The best part was that the cafe is situated right next to the square where locals are playing pétanque, which was quite enjoyable to watch.
Rouslana H — Google review
My friend and I were craving a crêpe during our break of a tour activity. It was there, quick & tasty. Can’t speak on more as we weren’t there for long but the ambience for the short time was pleasant.
Enyo O — Google review
The café itself is lovely — great spot, cozy vibe, and the food and drinks were genuinely good. The location adds extra charm; you can sit back and soak in the village atmosphere with a nice espresso or lunch plate. That said, the service really brought the experience down. Our server was dismissive and barely paid attention — felt like he didn’t want to be there or serve us at all. It’s a shame, because everything else was on point. If they improve the attitude and attention of the staff, this place could easily be a five-star stop in Saint-Paul-de-Vence.
Anuj S — Google review
Outright rude and openly racist. Ignored our requests while offering services politely to nearby tables. When we tried to call them out on their behavior they pretended to not speak English. They hardly have any options on the menu and whatever they have is terrible (food, wine and beers - everything is awful). I would stay away from this restaurant. Zero value for money.
Tanvi ( — Google review
Called in on a whim whilst passing, plat du jour was roast chicken, potato gratin and green beans and it was literally one of the best meals of my life. Large portions of delicious food served by efficient and friendly waiting staff. For EUR15 is was an absolute bargain, I cant vouch for the other plats du jour but if they're half as good as this was you're in for a treat.

Croque monsieur was extremely tasty and the salad was fresh, the aperol spritz was refreshing. Service is fast and friendly.

Very large supermarket. Fine prices. Convenient parking.
Flemming E — Google review
Great supermarket with sufficient choice in terms of supply. Staff at the checkout a bit unfriendly. There was a situation with my car and employees with shopping trolleys. Where I was spoken to by a security guard. What really bothered me was the way you were addressed. I was driving a French rental car, but it must have been clear enough to the employee that my French was not that good. There were "threats" with the police. I stopped, thought I had room to cross to the parking garage, but stopped for a lady crossing with a shopping trolley. As a result, the employees had to brake with a row of shopping trolleys. Not nice and I understand that. I apologized for that. But the tone and manner in which communication was done went against the grain. I am still a customer and that is not how I was treated and approached. There is no need to roll out a red carpet, but it could be done in a different tone. I was really enoyed by this. As you often say yourselves "C'est le ton qui fait la musique". Ps Thanks for the replay. I do appreciate that. Still I had to do better. Both sides could have done better. Great supermarket and for sure till we meet again.

The Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady of the Nativity at Vence is a charming and serene place located in the historical center of Vence, France. Despite its unassuming exterior, the cathedral surprises visitors with its spacious interior and vibrant facade. Inside, visitors can admire the beautiful floor and take a moment to contemplate in peace. The highlight is undoubtedly the colorful mosaic at the baptistery, created by Chagall.
Great Cathedral, loads to see if recommend setting aside at least 30 mins as there's quite a bit of information one can read. Entry is free

It is a small but ancient church with a special charm. Ot has an old organ that sounds beautifully. I wish they would play it more often.
Vasily D — Google review
It looks a very small cathedral from outside, but it’s a big one from inside. You can see different artifacts which describe the old time. There are also the chambers with a display of the clothes, the crockeries used, the price of art, the music room, prayer room etc.

Beautiful cathedral in one of the most beatiful towns in France. It's a quiet place. If you don't believe, it's a great place to think. The facade is very colourful. The inside is very nice as well. The floor is beautiful. Take a seat on one of the benches and take a good look around. You'll love it. The mosaic at the baptisery, made by Chagall, is very colourful.

Nestled in the heart of Vence's historic center, Le Clémenceau has been a beloved family-run establishment for four generations. This charming eatery offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for families and friends alike. Guests have praised the attentive service, with friendly staff who are quick to accommodate needs—whether it's speaking English or ensuring your meal is just right.
Wonderful place to eat and drink. The food was splendid, especially Aioli Provençal and Daube Provencal. The setting is beautiful- sitting under the trees next to the smallest cathedral in France. Service from Kad and his colleagues was very friendly and efficient.

Enjoyed a great pizza lunch here. Upon arrival we were quickly placed at a table although the restaurant was very full. We received the menu cards and ordered two pizzas and the house wine. The pizzas arrived quickly and we were delicious. Before the pizzas, we were also served a free snack with olives. The house wine is good and cheap. Go here if you like pizza and a laid back atmosphere.

Amazing experience , wonderful staff and wonderful bartender! We came all the way from Norway and this was an amazing welcome to France!!! Our server was so attentive and our food came out within 10 minutes or so of ordering! Mind you this was on a Saturday evening. Our drinks came out quickly and our server was always ready to help. Such a good experience, we will 100% be back during our stay!

We were only going to have a drink here as we had a couple of other nights, as we were slightly put off by the food reviews, however seeing the pizzas coming out, we decided to order 3 pizzas. An excellent choice as it turned out. All 3 pizzas were fantastic. Staff were really friendly and attentive. Certainly in respect to atmosphere, service and pizzas I would highly recommend.

The service was perfect. The waiter was very friendly and spoke English if needed. He was also very alert; he even noticed when one of our dishes wasn't hot enough. When one of us didn't like her desert, he also noticed and removed it from the bill. The food was only ok, though. Nothing special. The Mussels with Roquefort were very good, but the rest failed to impress. Would go there again, but would try something like a pizza next time. They are supposed to be very good there.
Merijn L — Google review
Really cute spot—sat a group of 8 of us late on a Friday night with no reservation. We all ordered pizza and it was fantastic. Recommended a unique and pleasant local wine pairing + special desserts from the chef. Attentive and pleasant service, would definitely come back!

Escalopes, eggplant and fries were perfect. It was delicious food, simply and tasty. Open at 18:00. Very kind service. We are all very pleased.
Krzysztof ( — Google review
Rather disappointing. We have been to this restaurant several times in recent years. Today, the food was OK but not as good and tasty as usual. Also, advice: ask for a specific named wine by the glass, otherwise you may, like us, be given the most expensive! And, if you ask for tap water in correct French, expect to be given it. This restaurant has been one of our favourites and we hope to enjoy our next visit as much as we used to.

La Farigoule is a charming restaurant located in Vence, offering a beautiful setting and delicious food. Despite the occasional setback with the weather, visitors have praised the friendly host, Agnes, and enjoyed their dining experience. The menu features incredible dishes such as escargots that are highly recommended by patrons. While some have noted inconsistencies in service and food quality on certain occasions, others have found it to be a hidden gem with outstanding service and friendly staff.

We are so lucky to find this charming restaurant in this town. We were quite lost after our hike and was looking at our GPS to head to lunch to a restaurant that has 4.6 ratings when we walked past this place. I looked inside, it has a stylish set up and look posh! Lady owner is very friendly when I ask if we can have a table of 2. She gave us her "favorite" outdoor table. Good breeze and well shaded. Had Aperol Spritz to start at EU 12 - large and very yummy. Our main course fish and prawns are cook to perfection. We had a glass of Chablis and Meursault - both good and great pour! Overall price is very reasonable with such great quality. If time permits, we might come back again!

It was excellent! Thank you very much for your hospitality and for the great meal!
Wladislaw G — Google review
Excellent but room for improvement The food was excellent and tasted wonderful! We have nothing to complain about from this side. However, the service was lacking for multiple reasons: 1. The server only took the drink request of two of our guests while the remainder of our guests sat at the table without anything to drink. She then took the order for two more guests but still left out another person. 2. When serving the food, the meal was placed without thought in front of each guest. For example, the steaks were served facing away from the guest and one would have to rotate the plate themselves. Although this may seem irrelevant, it is common practice for restaurants of this caliber, especially in reflection to the menu prices, to place the main part of the meal in front of the guest and not away. 3. Once the main course was cleared, the server reached in front of the guest rather than around. When you’re having a conversation this may be seen as very intrusive and impolite. 4. At the end of our meal we felt that the service staff wanted us to leave as they were cleaning up the restaurant making unnecessary loud noises that felt intentional. Again, the food was excellent and we will definitely try it again in the future, however, we do hope that the staff will work a little bit harder on improving their service skills.
K N — Google review
I had initially posted a review with 5 stars recommending the place. This was based on a visit to the restaurant with family two years ago. The place was almost empty and the food and service were amazing. This summer, I made a reservation in early August for dinner for 4 people. My wife and I had friends over and wanted to take them out to dinner. When we got there the place was packed and the owner said we didn't have a reservation acting all perplexed and almost annoyed. This was extremely embarrassing for us. I am not sure if she did so because she overbooked or it had rained that night and the outdoor had to be shut, but her behaviour is unacceptable. It was dishonest and outrageous. I will never dine there again. We spend a significant amount of time in this part of France every year and have lots of friends over. We would never recommend that place. Please beware when booking a table as you will learn from my review and that of many others that the behaviour of the owner is a recurring event. If you are part of a hotel or any business that deals with guests, I would advise that you do not recommend this restaurant to your guests.

Ice cream was excellent. The attitude of the server (guy with beard) was horrible. He might have been upset because my coming in the store interrupted his conversation with his friend.

Day 2

Center of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the center side of town. Start the day off with La Chapelle Matisse, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to baou de Saint-Jeannet. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

The Rosary Chapel, also known as the Chapelle du Rosaire, is a stunning landmark located north of the village of Saint-Paul-de-Vence. Designed by Henri Matisse himself, this gleaming white chapel is adorned with blue, green, and yellow stained glass windows that flood the interior with light.
This is a must visit experience. One of Matisse's models in the 1940s decided to become a nun and then reached out to him in the 1950s to tell him that they were going to build a new chapel, in an area he was familiar with because he lived there for a few years . The artist immediately offered his services, and the result is this chapel. The stained glass is simple yet very colorful and interesting. The artist designed the vestments for the clergy. There is a good video that runs about 55 minutes, which should be seen even if it's in French, you can get the idea. The gift shop has a few interesting items that are worth taking home.

This was a wonderful stop on our visit. Parking was a little difficult but worth the walk. There was lots of information about Matisse and the building of the chapel. A great stop to make.
Jeff H — Google review
While it appears Matisse considered this his best work, I was underwhelmed. I liked the stained glass but the rest of the artwork looked like a weird type of subway wall vandalism - black marker sketches on white subway tiles. I appreciate art but this didn’t touch me. I suppose Matisse just isn’t my favorite artist but if you absolutely love him, you may appreciate this anyway.
Dorothea R — Google review
The iconic chapel designed and painted by Henri Matisse (1869-1954). This project was driven by Sister Jacques-Marie (1921-2005), who had worked for Matisse as nurse and model prior to becoming a nun. It was built and decorated between 1947 and 1951. The one disappointment during my visit was that photography inside the chapel is prohibited (but not in the museum). I particularly liked the colorful priest vestments designed by Matisse.
Nils P — Google review
The chapel is of course stunning and simple. It's set at the side of a small road that snakes out of Vence and you have to park on the road if you come by car. There's now an exhibition which leads into the chapel. It's interesting (Matisse's preparatory pencil sketches in particular) but I think slightly spoils the simple transcending beauty of just walking down the stairs into the chapel as you used to be able to do. The altar area is now roped off as well, where you used to be able to wander around freely. If you're a Matisse fan it's absolutely worth seeing, but it's a slightly drier experience now - it feels more like a museum and less like a living place of worship, and for me loses a little in the process.
John S — Google review
Fantastic museum - inspiring presentation of the little-known religious aspect Matisse’s practice. Chapel is worth a visit by itself but the there is some much more inside - drawings, models, and a gift shop. Beautiful views of Vence. Must visit!
Osei B — Google review
A truly delightful gem of a building, designed and decorated by Matisse and which gives insight into his art and ways of working. The stained glass is beautiful, the chapel simple and contemplative, and the accompanying museum highly informative. Don't miss the lovely terrace either. The only downside is parking nearby is very scarce indeed. Better to park in the town and walk, but it will be around a 10 minute walk on the roadside.

The premises are small (apart from the room which served as a reprography workshop before the death of Mr. CHAVE). There was no one there during our visit in January, which is very nice. Fountain
Sights & Landmarks
Historic Sites
Fontaine Peyra is a famous landmark in Vence, built in 1822 by architect Etienne Goby. It provided water to the city and its thermal baths during Roman times. The ancient streets of Vence, the medieval castle walls, and the Place de Peyres add to its charm. The fountain symbolizes Vence and distributes water from the Foux. Despite being invaded by restaurant tables at times, it remains a beautiful sight when water flows through it.
The Fontaine Peyra in Saint-Paul-de-Vence is a charming, historic fountain located in the center of the village. As I approached it, the cool, clear water flowing from its stone spout immediately caught my attention, set against the backdrop of the village’s ancient stone buildings. The fountain sits in a quiet square, surrounded by cobblestone streets, providing a peaceful ambiance as it has done for centuries. Its rustic design and the gentle sound of the water offered a perfect spot to pause and take in the beauty of this picturesque Provençal village. The fountain is a true symbol of Saint-Paul-de-Vence’s timeless charm and history.

(Translated by Google) The incredible charm of the ancient streets of Vence, which you never tire of circling, the power of the walls of the medieval castle, the beautiful Place de Peyres, which served as a place of trade, city meetings and punishments (the stones from which its name comes) and which now houses restaurants and shops, an ancient fountain - all this makes an unforgettable impression. But what also impressed me here was the ordinary modern life of modern people in this ancient city. I called it that for myself with admiration: “life in historical settings.” It is not at all surprising that at the end of the 19th century the city became so popular among artists and writers who created their creations here.

Belvédère Fernand Moutet is located at the far end of Place du Frene, just outside the Porte du Peyra in Vence. (Translated by Google) Since the end of the 19th century, Vence began to attract artists, writers and travelers with its antiquity, picturesque surroundings with olive and citrus groves, gardens, hills, crystal air with the smell of lavender and rosemary. Many artists who lived here captured Vence in their works. I saw it in Nice and saw an interesting solution here - a board with a reproduction of a painting from the past with a view of this or that place is installed next to that very place. Here, on the promenade Fernand Moutet (named after the Provençal poet), called The Beautiful View of Fernand Moutet, I saw two such reproductions. One, a reproduction of H. Soutine’s painting “The Tree of Vence”, is near the tree in front of the promenade. Another, a reproduction of the painting “Sunny Slope” by J. Dubuffet, is on a stone fence, in front of the slope facing the sun. A pleasant place where artists created.

Mountain peak
Baou de Saint-Jeannet is a popular mountain in the Grasse foothills, attracting hikers and climbers with its stunning views of Saint-Paul-de-Vence. The hike to the summit takes around 2.30 hours and starts from the village entrance, leading through Rue de la Croix and Rue du Baou. The trail is well-marked but challenging at times due to loose stones.
A beautiful hike up the small peak of about 45 minutes. It is uphill all the way and can be a bit strenuous but well worth the effort with a scenic view of the Mediterranean and Nice.
Pontus D — Google review
Moderate hike, not recommended for beginners. Not a lot of shade. My phone registered a ~450m elevation difference from the parking lot to the top. We followed the Visorando route. I would recommend taking the bus if possible, it was difficult to find a parking spot on a Saturday. It wasn't crowded, but we saw a lot of people on the trail. Very well kept, almost no litter. The last kilometer to the top is rather even, but very rocky. Good shoes are a must. I wore hiking shoes but I would have preferred my hiking boots.

Le Pigeonnier is a small and affordable restaurant located in the old town of Vence. The staff is attentive and speaks some English, offering warm service and good cooking. While some dishes may look better than they taste, the assortment of cakes to pair with espresso comes highly recommended. The restaurant offers large portions of excellent food at reasonable prices, making it a fabulous dining option in the quaint small square of Vence.
I like Le Pigeonnier. I’ve only been twice, but both times the food was good, the service friendly and timely, and the atmosphere lovely (this means we ate outside in one of Vence’s pretty little squares). At the recent visit, my starter was courgette flowers stuffed with crab mousse – miot unusual – and for desert I had the always-reliable and enjoyable café gourmand (see photos). We will return!

Attentive staff that speaks some English. Food looks better than it tastes, the risotto was a bit bland but at least salt and pepper was on the table. The stuffed zucchini flower was also fishy. I was not presented what the cocktail of the day was, but gambled to try it. As the raspberry and mint leaves on the cocktail were dusted with sugar, my nose was covered in white powder after drinking it😂 but the assortment of cakes to pair with the espresso is highly recommended!

Had high hopes for this restaurant given its location but these were dashed with the slowest food service ever. It was a shame for the poor FOH staff who were very pleasant and friendly, but it says something when at one point we looked round and only one table had any food. It took an hour and half for our main course to be served, others were clearly waiting longer. “A problem in the kitchen” doesn’t cut it as a reason, if you have a problem then don’t keep taking walk ups, and manage expectations. Smacks of greed over any concern for service.

I had a fascinating dining experience at Vietnam Restaurant, where I thoroughly enjoyed exploring their diverse and unique menu options. The waiter, Axel Dave, went above and beyond with his exceptional professionalism, politeness, and entertaining demeanor. The spring rolls (nems porc) were superbly authentic, while the maki was also delicious. However, I personally found the pho broth to be overly sweet for my taste.

I didn’t stay to eat. The restaurant has 2 rooms. We went into the second room walking by the kitchen area. Walked past large uncovered plastic buckets with cooked rice. The room was smelly and stuffy. We were 3 . The staff were very unfriendly. When we ordered she seemed annoyed that our order was small and when the third person said he had to go and couldn’t eat she said well you have to go to that table for 2 people!! It was the attitude that we didn’t appreciate and decided to leave. There are loads of good restaurants around the corner where the staff are friendly and the food is good.

Le Bistro Du Peyra offers delicious homemade cuisine at an excellent price-to-quality ratio. Customers can enjoy a variety of dishes, such as the flavorful burger and succulent duck breast with a dark fruity sauce and orange chutney. The standout dessert is the brioche prepared in "pain perdu" style, which is truly impressive. The staff is professional, efficient, and friendly.

The owner of this establishment is a very rude person. My wife, two kids, and I stopped by here. I asked if they have a bathroom first to make sure we would not sit at a place without a bathroom. The owner said bathrooms are for customers only. I understood that and said we would be customers, just confirming there is a bathroom available once we do so. The lady next to him said “upstairs.” I said “okay” and sat at a table. We sat down and ordered a large pizza, two coffees, an iced tea, and a hot chocolate. The waiter took our order, but came back a minute later and said, “Sorry, you each have to order food.” The place was not full; it was 2:30 PM. We were appalled by this response. The waiter, clearly disturbed, apologized but said it came from the boss. We left the place. We have been traveling through Portugal, Spain, and France for two weeks and have never encountered such a rude owner.

I visited Vence with my 2 children on last Friday for a open air concert at the square of the town. We went there around 10pm and search for a restaurant next to the square. Then we went to this restaurant with a recommendation of a local person. It was crowded and we were told to come 30 min later by the lady who is working at the restaurant. We came back after 30 min and they showed us a table for me and my 2 children 11 and 8 years old. The lady came to take the our order and I asked a wine for myself and a pizza for my children and soft drink for them. After that this lady spoke in French very rudely and said us that we waited 30 min just for 1 pizza?? As my children speaks French, they translated me what she said. And then I decided to leave this restaurant immediately because of this very rude behavior of this lady. Other guys who are working there were very gentle. But this lady is damaging the reputation of this place. First time I faced this kind of a behavior in France. I am sure the food is very delicious there but I didn't have chance to taste it. But Vence and all the people are very nice. I stayed there 1 week and I had very relaxing moments there.

I don’t often leave bad reviews, because I usually go to places that serve decent food. Unfortunately, it was a rather abysmal experience here, and the high rating I saw was a massive bait. Steak of the day was served far from medium rare, cutting into that thing and eating it was a forearm/jaw workout. Fries were cooked very poorly, had zero taste. From an Australian standpoint, you’ll find chips infinitely better at a KFC or grill’d. Furthermore, my partner and her grandma’s mussels were proper average, with nearly a quarter of the mussels being inedible because they had already died/shell had opened, this should have been separated prior to serving. I then requested some sauce for my fries, to at least offer respite, but the waiter never be brought it out. The positive notes would be the atmosphere, as it’s in a nice location with a vibrant crowd. The escargot was also not bad. Overall, come here if you want to be disappointed. I expected a little better from a French establishment, but this was the ultimate tourist trap. I guess I was spoilt by the past week of french home cooking.

Restaurant
Nestled in the charming town of Vence, Auberge des Seigneurs is a historic hotel that exudes warmth and character. Housed in a beautifully preserved stone building, this long-standing establishment offers cozy accommodations alongside an inviting restaurant, bar, and terrace. Guests can indulge in a unique dining experience where meats are grilled over an open fire right before their eyes—a true culinary spectacle!
At the restaurant L’Auberge des Seigneurs, we had an excellent meal once again. A lamb saddle cooked over an open wood fire was a good choice. Celiac/gluten-free options available.

A family owned restaurant for generations with a serious attention to details in all matters concerning the well-being of the customers. Very very kind and helpful people. One of the coziest restaurants I've ever visited. Feels like you're entering into some kind of ancient brotherhood; the furniture, lighting and decor tells of history. The meats are grilled with three different types of wood which gives a unique and delicious taste. I'll recommend the grilled lamb chops with a layer of a secret ingredient on top - the combined taste is just amazing. It's worth a longer travel to visit this restaurant - a real gem.

We were in this incredible restaurant with my family and spent the evening in a soulful, French atmosphere. If you want to try real, craft French cuisine, then this is the place for you!! Here they make the most tender meat over the fire, an incredibly tasty assortment of creme brulee and service is 100/10. I highly recommend this place if you want to spend an unforgettable evening!

Our family of six (2 adults and four hungry teenage boys) had a fantastic meal at Auberge. The place is a Vence institution having been run by the same family for more than 100 years. But they are not resting on their laurels - this was a fantastic meal, the best we had over the course of our week in Vence. The starters were so fresh - a real taste of summer. The mains were also excellent - saddle of veal was a standout but the steak and fish suggestion (bream) were great too. Exceptional value for money. Three generations of servers including Maman who was acquainted with Marc Chagall back in the day. I couldn’t recommend this inn highly enough!

I enjoyed both the hotel and dining experience! The hotel is in the lovely old town area. It is a family operation, and is quaint and charming, as I had hoped considering the location. Everyone on the staff in both the restaurant and the hotel were very warm and welcoming as well as helpful with questions about getting around. My room was very spacious, with a large bathroom and very nice shower. Everything was spotless, the bed was comfortable. I loved the sound of the church bells without being so loud they woke me up! The dinner I had was DELiCOUS! I started with a zucchini tomato flower, the flavors were fabulous. Followed by the grilled beef steak, again very flavorful. Of course I had to get dessert, I can’t remember what it was called - a lemon tiramisu and it was heavenly. They had a couple chocolate desserts that looked very good as well. It’s a small dining room so be sure to make a reservation!

Three of us popped in for dinner whilst on holiday in the South of France. Totally fabulous. Their USP is meat grilled on a rotisserie next to an open fire. Two of us had the lamb and it was yummy. The fish too was excellent. The dinning room is lovely - lined with olive press boards and a great view of the surround hills. Service is lovely and unrushed. If I could change one thing I would change the chairs. They are lovely but I’ve sat in more modern ones that are more comfortable. Warmly recommended.

Had a great stay at the Auberge des Seigneurs. The rooms are spacious, beautiful and came with free fresh fruit. This family owned bed and breakfast is in the perfect location; right in the old town of Vence and next to the local Matisse art museum. The breakfast spread was delicious and the owners were so kind (as well as their house dog). Highly reccomend!

This review is for both the restaurant and hotel. We stayed here for one night and made a reservation for dinner as well. Restaurant: All diners were seated outside on the terrace which is on a public viewpoint area (but the plants give the dining area some privacy) with nice views of the hills nearby. It wasn't a particularly hot day but we still appreciated the large umbrellas to shield us from the sun. They have several formule menus available so we ordered a mix. Started with an amuse bouche of chilled corn soup with pesto, which was really delicious and refreshing. For the starters, we ordered the asparagus creme brulee, artichoke and gorgonzola pie, foie gras and stuffed zucchini blossoms with scallops (starter of the day). All of these were so good - including the asparagus creme brulee and artichoke gorgonzola pie which I was hesitant about. The flavours are all really complex and the dishes were all so tasty and beautifully presented. For our mains, we got the fish of the day, grilled beef steak and fire roasted lamb saddle (for fire cooked meats, you have to order two portions for the formule set). The meats were perfectly cooked, so tender. The fish was excellent too with great flavours in the sauces and relish on top. Ended with dessert which were all wonderful as well. Food comes out quite quickly, and service is wonderful - very attentive and friendly. Prices are extremely reasonable especially for the quality of food and service. Definitely make reservations as they only serve a few tables and were fully booked that evening. Hotel: Rooms are very comfortable and homey. We loved the personal touches like the fresh fruits that awaited us when we checked in. There is no AC - but we didn't need it as they do have fans and the evening was quite cool when we visited in mid-July. Beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms are spacious too. Great views from the windows and overall just a really comfortable, peaceful place. We especially loved being greeted by Cash, the friendly dog! This hotel has been family-run for over a hundred years and you really feel like you're stepping into history when you enter the 17th century building. It's truly so charming and special. Be sure to check out the dining rooms and the decorations around the place. Daniele and Sandrine, the mother-daughter team, do a wonderful job running this place and taking care of their guests with such kindness and genuine hospitality. Would highly recommend this as both a place to stay and dine!

The Ramparts of Saint Paul de Vence, completed in 1547, are a significant part of the town's history and offer stunning views over the surrounding villages. Strolling through this medieval village allows for picturesque scenes of small archways, stepped roads, and trailing wisteria plants. The town is known for its ateliers featuring art from local artists, though some pieces can be pricey. Despite the expensive restaurants, visitors find that the breathtaking views make it all worthwhile.
Beautiful town and nice alley to walk. Not very big place but you can spend about 2 hours walking around to see the whole place. Some nice restaurants and we enjoyed some refreshments while enjoying the views. We were there in mid November and not crowded at all

Really beautiful town! If you are close by you should really stop and take the time and just walk around. So many beautiful ateliers. Some really expensive some moderate, also local artists selling their art. Worth to buy some. Restaurants in this town look all good but are more on the expensive side. But probably with it. At least you get most of the time good views.

This is the most gorgeous little medieval village. The views out across the village walls look out across the rolling hills of the French riviera. While the valley is now populated with houses it is still phenomenally gorgeous and is well worth a visit.

The Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs, also known as Folon Chapel, is a 17th-century church in Saint-Paul-de-Vence near Nice. The interior is adorned with the artwork of Belgian artist Jean-Michel Folon, including vibrant mosaics, sculptures, and paintings. The chapel's stained glass windows were created in collaboration with artisans. Visitors are recommended to visit this unassuming yet luminescent church to see the striking Folon mural.
One of the most beautiful things we’ve seen in a calm, tranquil setting. What painstaking work has taken place to create this simply stunning mosaic and surrounding artwork envisioned by the late artist, Folon. This was absolutely the icing on the cake for our day trip to Saint Paul de Vence, we were so pleased that the lady in the tourist information impressed upon us the need to go and see it. Closed between 12.30pm and 2pm, it is well worth the €3 per person to feed your soul with this fresh, modern, magical, sparkling work of art. The lady in charge was very informative also - worth popping to the boutique diagonally opposite to see pictures of the mosaic and installation in progress too. Superb.

Beautiful church right in the old town of Saint Paul de Vence. Beautiful artwork inside including a painting of Saint Catherine whose attribution is contested. It was probably executed in Rome in the 17th century.

I create guides for those who see the world with all their senses — not just through facts, but through feeling. This church, hidden in the heart of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, became one of the most silent and meaningful discoveries of my journey. The Collégiale Saint Paul was built in the 14th century, and yet it still breathes. If you value history, beauty, and depth — take a moment here. Sit down. Let your eyes wander across the altars, the stone, the light. You don’t just visit a place like this. You enter it — fully. And it changes you quietly. As a journalist, a guide, and a thinking soul — I deeply recommend it.

It felt like a peaceful retreat, providing a quiet space to reflect and admire its timeless architectural beauty.

I highly reccomend this restaurant! We visited as a group of 12 in April 23 and they put together a set menu for us to meet our budget, catering for Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten Free (I am coeliac and felt very comfortable eating here) and Dairy Free! Best meal we had while visiting the French Riviera. A true dining experience. Beautifully crafted from start to finish. Received an amuse bouche before the meal and an apertif after, both included as part of the meal. I had the steak which was great, but the glazed carrots and cabbage were equally memorable. The cabbage shocked me by how tasty it was. My husband had the sea bass and loved it. It may be years before we return to the Riviera, but when we do, we will definitely be coming back!

The delicious food was worth it alone, but the service of both the waitress and the chef made the evening extra special. One of the best meals we’ve experienced in our time in France.
James B — Google review
I don’t usually give 5 stars and the food was not perfect, but the whole experience was so much more than a a simple 4. We had the 3-course lunch for about €30. The amuse was a dollop of cold squash drizzled in smoked olive oil and salt. Probably wouldn’t have ordered that but glad I tried it. We started with squash soup with delicious morsels and topped in foamy cream. Others had a bubbly melted goat cheese with choice of fresh truffles grated table-side or honey on top. For the main, 4/5 of us wisely chose pork filet mignon with oniony sauce and the other had a fish that smelled and looked very good. The chef seems anti-carb so don’t expect any potatoes, rice, or pasta. But that’s ok here. The flavors are worth it. If you can’t ever choose the best dessert, do like me and order the 7-dessert sampler. Cakes, cookies, gelato...all delicious. But the crown jewel was the soft, salted caramel that you eat with a spoon. And then the hostess/waitress/owner’s adorable little girl brought us shot glasses of gummy bears. I proclaimed, “this is the best restaurant ever!” Then empty glasses and three bottles were placed on the table: limoncello, amaretto, manzana. Sip on one or one of each. What a wonderful meal served by warm people in a cozy cave of a restaurant. Go here the next time you’re anywhere near this area of France!

Most horrible experience in France so far. Have been to multiple restaurants across cities, but never such a terrible experience. Went in with my daughter and the server was super mean. We wanted to order one main and beverages since only my daughter was hungry. But the lady said we need to order a full meal for the entire family to be able to sit there. We had to get up and leave. My daughter was so hungry that she started to cry. Mean people, will not recommend at all. There were plenty of tables available, and not many ppl were coming in, now I know why.

⭐️⭐️ Nice location with a good view, but the space feels a bit cramped. The server was friendly at first, but if you said something wrong, her facial expressions and behavior quickly showed irritation. We brought our 4-month-old baby, but only after ordering food were we told that children were not allowed inside. If you have kids, you should choose another place. The glasses had fingerprints inside, and the pasta looked pale and pre-made. It tasted like cheap store-bought broth. We were 10 people – only 4 of us actually liked the food, while the rest were disappointed. The lasagna was just okay, but felt mass-produced. Overall, the restaurant seems to rely on one-time tourists rather than returning customers. We won’t be coming back.

Please be informed that the winery is not open to the public. You need to book your visit in advance; dropping by to buy local wines without a reservation is not possible.

Restaurant
Nestled on the western ramparts of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Malabar is a charming and cozy restaurant that often flies under the radar. Just a short stroll from the bustling old town, this hidden gem offers breathtaking views of the valley below. The husband-and-wife team behind Malabar serves up an array of delicious French dishes, including delightful tapas plates and ricotta with basil.
Nice Sunday at balcony of Malabar over looking the valley and the sea faraway. Food are nice. I like Plat de Provençal…be able to share as starter for 2 person. Aperol spritz is well dose of alcohol. Dog friendly. Nice staff

Excellent little terrace on the wall with the view on the hill. Despite being a touristy town. The cuisine is excellent. Everything was delicious. Portion was generous. Great services. It might get crowed. Make sure to book a table. (We waited for an hour to get our table) reasonable price overall.

On the western ramparts of the town overlooking the valley towards Col sur loop and down to Cagnes sur mer. The outdoor seating is well shaded. The menu varies and is good for all.

Great spot for Lunch (or dinner if it’s too hot)! If you’re looking for beautiful views and fresh food, this is your sign to stop reading this review and go try it! Special thanks to Guillaume who was wonderful :)

Under the 50 best restaurants we had lunch so fare. (45 years traveling through Europe and Asia). Very friendly. Price/Quality excellent. View/Location just perfect.

Superb food, amazing view. Waitress seemed a little overwhelmed due to the number of guests, but service was flawless. We are leaving really content and full 🥰

This restaurant, located in the most scenic spot at Saint-Paul de Vence, is known for its stunning views. When I sat at an outdoor table, they kindly informed me that it would take around 30 to 40 minutes for the food to be served. So, while enjoying the beautiful scenery, I decided to pass the time by sipping on my beer. Just a heads up, if you're not the patient type, this might not be the place for you. The steak was a bit tough, but the sautéed onions added a burst of flavor that made up for it. The duck was incredibly tender and the salad was truly a standout! I highly recommend it.

We absolutely loved the food here. The service was slow but they were busy and honestly, good food is worth the wait to us. My husband and I was both had the “menu A” option which included a starter and a main for lunch. My Provençal mixed platter was incredible and trying the different specialties of the area was really fun. The Provençal baked fish with potato and fennel was my main dish and it was so delicious. My husband got the smoked salmon starter and the beef ravioli as his main and was very happy with everything. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are visiting Saint Paul de Vence.

Haute French restaurant
Nestled in the charming town of Vence, L'Ambroisy offers a remarkable dining experience that is not to be missed. The restaurant is run by a talented chef and his wife, who ensure impeccable service throughout your meal. Recently, the culinary baton has been passed to their son, Alexandre Seillery, who masterfully orchestrates an array of flavors that take diners on a delightful journey through seasonal ingredients.
Stayed in the town named Vence during our family vacation to France. And I planned ahead of time to visit this restaurant for dinner. There are plenty of car parking space in the area. We entered the restaurant and were greeted by the chef owner himself. We went straight for the 5 course tasting menu. Every dish was very well curated, we ordered Kir Royale, Pouilly Fumé & also a bottle of Red from Provence. We will visit again, highly recommended.

We ate here on holiday and it was an exceptional meal food-wise. There were so many courses and they were all very good, with a few stand outs. The presentation and flavor was Michelin worthy. We had the bad luck of eating there during a big football match so we were the only customers which was a bit awkward, but it was a delicious meal nonetheless.

This is simply amazing, the food, the service. It totally deserves a Michelin star.

Literally one of the best restaurants in France! Absolutely delicious! I am not a big fan of too sophisticated dishes, but at this place that was a wonderful combination of high cuisine, unique ingredients and very tasty dishes! And wonderful service! We were with a family of 7 people and everyone just loved it!

The restaurant boasts skilled chefs who prepare mouthwatering dishes with expertise. The staff members are friendly and attentive, ensuring that each guest feels welcome and well-cared-for. Le Brasier comes highly recommended for its superb quality of food, providing simple yet delicious options to satisfy every palate.
Delicious food! We had hamburgers and they were giant and with fresh home made bun. Portions were really giant and price related was perfect! Not so expensive and they had many options. Staff was very nice. Atmosphere as well.
Jalisse S — Google review
My wife and I were in St. Paul de Vence and were looking for a lunch spot. We wanted out of the over-priced, tourist places in St. Paul, so we looked a bit away from town. Le Brasier had good reviews except for some people who complained that the menu is not in English. Really? When French people are in the U.S., do they expect our menus in French? Of course not! Why are some Americans such jerks! When we walked in, we were greeted by a lovely lady, Silvie. She gave us options of where to sit and was very gracious and accommodating. Silvie and the other lovely lady that took care of us spoke wonderful English and were happy to explain/translate anything on the menu. Plus we used Google translate to fill in the blanks when they weren't at the table. We ordered two large salads--the compagnarde salad and the tiede de gambas (prawns) salad. OMG, they were large, fresh, and delicious. Honestly, two of the best salads we've had in a long time. Neither one of us finished everything, but we wanted to. We managed to squeeze in one scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream between the two of us. It was also excellent. We highly recommend this restaurant when in St Paul de Vence or in the Vence area. You will not be disappointed. Thank you you Silvie and the other lovely lady that took excellent care of us. We are sorry we didn't get your name. Merci beaucoup!

We were served a very good dinner our last evening in Vence. Very nice treatment by the staff and a pleasant atmosphere in the restaurant, which was full to the last seat. We can warmly recommend Le Brasier to anyone who wants to feel noticed in the best possible way.

Pizza de l'Ara

Italian restaurant
Pizza de l'Ara is an incredible place that serves mouthwatering sandwiches reminiscent of pizzas. All their food is made from scratch using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and the prices are reasonable. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming, so if you happen to be in the area, make sure not to miss out on this gem! It's a must-visit spot where you can indulge in delicious homemade pizzas that are definitely worth trying.
Our new favorite pizza place in town. Thanks to our friends for telling us about this. Great pizza and very friendly staff. Right in the bus station parking which is very convenient.
Greg B — Google review
During a recent visit to Pizza de l’Ara, my experience was a curious juxtaposition of satisfaction and disappointment. My own pizza was a delightful indulgence, with a perfect balance of ingredients. The crust, crisp yet soft in the right places, provided an excellent base for a generous layer of cheese that was melted to perfection. Every bite oozed with richness and flavor, encapsulating the essence of a classic cheesy pizza—simple yet immensely satisfying. However, my companion’s pizza was, regrettably, a stark contrast. It arrived with a raw egg awkwardly perched atop a soggy crust, an unwelcome and disjointed element. Rather than integrating harmoniously with the rest of the ingredients, the egg seemed misplaced, and the pizza itself was overly wet, resulting in an unappealing, drippy mess. The sauce and toppings failed to coalesce, leading to a dish that was, at best, a culinary misstep. The disparity between our meals was striking. While I thoroughly enjoyed my pizza, my friend’s disappointment cast a shadow over the overall dining experience. The inconsistency in quality is something the establishment may wish to address, ensuring that all pizzas meet the same standard of excellence. Nonetheless, for those who relish in a well-executed cheesy pizza, this place still holds promise.

Lovely staff, great pizzas, and reasonable prices. A combo that's hard to come by these days. I highly recommend, and will be back whenever I'm in Vence.

Foodtruck with amazing pizzas. I highly recommend them. Kind staff that speak English with ease. It's by the busstop so easy to find, the busses aren't frequent so not disturbing

So amazing! Spotted the queues outside their van a few days ago, got there too late last night so was determined to get there today. I had the 'Authentic' and my husband had the 'Americana'. Both of us are very satisfied and it was well worth the wait!

Best Pizza around Vence, Resonably priced and freshly made too order.

A recommendation here! A simple pizza stand/car with a wood oven, but with a very good service and some delicious pizzas! You should definitely go there if you are in Vence and when your into pizzas.
Marco B — Google review
Pizza was nothing special, but quite OK. Service was not so good. I think they prefer local people. After 30mins we asked where our pizza stays as other people came, ordered, waited 10mins and got their pizza... Told us it takes another 10mins, no „sorry“ or anything similar.. I recommend not to give tips in advance, even that didn‘t help. There are many good restaurants in Vence, try another one.
