Nature & Parks
Kirkgate Park is a beautiful and spacious park located along the shores of Loch Leven. It offers stunning views, a large play area for children, and is dog-friendly. The park features various play equipment suitable for all age ranges, including a climbing frame, flying fox, and swing pendulum. Additionally, visitors can enjoy activities such as walking and cycling on the well-maintained paths that offer clear views of Loch Leven Castle.
Peaceful, tranquil and an all round lovely place. The children's play area was good with a good variety of equipment. The whole place was litter free even the toilets were good. Lots of dog walker who all seemed very responsible.

Lovely place never got round all of it but we found a wee spot next to the loch to paddle in. Car parking was easy to navigate.

Open places, with kids park, no facility for toilets the only available toilet have been probably never cleaned after construction. The toilet seat had moss and and dirt stuck . Good day out for kids only if you don't need toilet

Didn't know about this place until the man at the boathouse told me as I was looking for a place to take some wedding photos. Lovely view, plenty of space.

Great park right next to the Loch, good amount of free parking, nice grassy open areas with picnic benches. There are public toilets that take 20p cash. Good amount of things to do at the park for all ages.

This is a wonderful park. It connects to the trail the runs all the way the Loch. There is a large play area for children and is dog friendly. There is a good walking and cycling path. You have a rather clear view of Loch Leven Castle. There are facilities here and parking. There is an interesting older cemetery at the top end of the park which is not dog friendly.

Brilliant place to enjoy with family or by yourself. Loads of grass area nice wee walk....if you want. Go jump in the water or play water sports. A little sand area, too. What a fantastic day we had.

A beautiful place to enjoy around Loch Leven. Saw many families, children and dogs during our walk. Many benches, grass area and people having BBQs. Some were paddle boarding, which looked like so much fun! Highly recommended.

Beautiful Scottish estate on the banks of Loch Leven, you can take a boat trip to the island on the loch to visit an ancient and important Castle 🏰 Also lovely walk around the loch with lots of wildlife! Well worth a visit 😊

Amazing place in the beautiful estate with flowers, pheasants and other birds walking in the big green space as you are heading to the spa. The spa is lovely, Scottish decor. We enjoyed the sauna and hydrotherapy before having a relaxing massage session and then tea in a relaxing area. The staff at the reception and the therapist were polite and with a nice smile that makes everything more enjoyable.

Love, love, love this place. Went to the coach House for a spa day...was not disappointed. Lovely, relaxing atmosphere and the girls were all professional and very welcoming. Superb cleanliness. 😀 Only issue was the lockers downstairs.....the locks either didn't work or the lock got stuck. Think they need replacing.

Beautiful late sixteen century mansion that has been, carefully, and beautifully restored and still in private ownership, it has a most marvellous and impressive table in the front hall, not to be missed this excellent estate and property.

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Lochleven Castle, located in the heart of Perth and Kinross, is a historic landmark with ties to Mary Queen of Scots' imprisonment in 1567. This evocative island fortress and prison dates back to the late 14th century. While the castle itself is small and mostly in ruins, it offers a glimpse into Scottish history with dark staircases and rooms to explore.
As we are members of Historic Scotland, we decided to visit this site last Friday. It was such a beautiful day and the boat trip over to the castle was lovely. Use your Sat nav to find Pier road, as it is hidden behind a housing estate. By the time we arrived we were unable to join the next motor boat as it only holds 12 passengers at a time. This was not a problem though as there is a large park and grassy area to walk around. We sat at the waters edge watching people on their paddle boards. The sailings go every 45 mins so it was no big deal to wait for the next sailing. If you are impatient though you can always book ahead. The girl steering the boat was very friendly explaining the safety rules whilst onboard before we started our sail. Once on the island we were given the directions to the only toilets on the small island. You need to take a picnic with you if you want to eat as there are no other facilities there. I felt this would be an ideal place to take children as there are flat grassy areas to run around and picnic tables. The castle and grounds are quite interesting and there are displays dotted around providing historical information and nature facts. I would definitely recommend Loch Leven castle for a family day out particularly on a sunny day.
Anna M — Google review
Brilliant visit! Plenty of parking with clear signs and toilets nearby. Book your boat online and arrive 15 mins early – the trip across the loch was so calm and scenic, with friendly skippers. The castle is small but full of history and charm, with picnic spots and great views (you can even see Kinross House). We spent about 40 minutes exploring, then relaxed while waiting for the return boat. Highly recommend, especially if you’re interested in Mary Queen of Scots!
LJ M — Google review
Lovely small castle built in the 14th century. It was once Mary Queen of Scot's prison (until she escaped). It sits on a small island on Loch Leven and is accessed by the castle boat, which is included in your ticket.
Joe F — Google review
Nice little castle on an island. On a rainy summer morning, we had the place to ourselves. Catch a short 10 min boat ride to get there. The boat returns every 45 min, which is just about right to see the entirety of it.
Corey D — Google review
Great place to visit! The boat trip to get to the castle is a nice extra attraction, the guide/ steersman will tell some interesting historical facts on the way. On the island you can visiting all the floors of the castle, walk it around, have a picnic on one of the benches with a pretty view or just relax under the gorgeous oak tree 💖
Gruba W — Google review
Fantastic little castle to visit. The trip there is by boat to the island, and the island itself is absolutely beautiful. Perfect for those who want to visit castles that are a little off the usual touristic path! Staff was friendly and helpful.
Debbie — Google review
Nice day out on a cold autumn morning. Took the boat across to the castle, the operator was very polite and informative of local history whilst we travelled across the water, trip takes about 10 minutes. Went around the castle grounds and inside where there are information boards at various points telling you the history of the place. I would recommend a 45min walk around/explore and ready for the return back by boat. For something to eat and drink there was the pink cafe next to the ticket office. We used it on the way out however, we decided to pop into Kinross to visit the Muir head hotel/pub for lunch.
Sanderosa — Google review
The boat steward on the way to the island was both funny and informative. You have 45 minutes until they pick you up but the castle ruins are quite small and there is more than enough time.

Loch Leven National Nature Reserve - Pier Entrance

4.6

Nature preserve
Loch Leven National Nature Reserve - Pier entrance is a family-friendly destination in Kinross, offering various activities such as visiting Loch Leven Castle, exploring RSPB Loch Leven nature reserve, and enjoying outdoor playgrounds. The 12-mile circular walk around the loch provides stunning views and birdwatching opportunities. The route features bird hides, beaches, and a dog-friendly RSPB center for refreshments.
I would say that the walk is mostly level but for the southwest corner of the walk. The path has been mostly resurfaced as of 14th March 2025, the last time that I was there. The east side is mostly woodland. There are also some other smaller woodland areas around the walk. There are 3 restaurants/cafe/toilets around the Loch. A restaurant on the northeast side, a cafe on the south east side and a cafe I think at Vane farm (RSPB). There is also a harbour at the northwest corner for fishing and boat trips to the island where Mary Queen of Scots was held prisoner.

We had a fantastic trip over to Loch Leven Castle, the staff who take you over on the boat are brilliant and so well informed. We have Historic Scotland memberships so it was also free for us, highly recommended

Beautiful place to go for a walk and there's a very small gift shop, apart from that, there's not much else to do, nice big park for kids and picnics about a 5min walk away
Mark J — Google review
Great day, we booked our tickets as it was recommended, really glad we did as the Monday and Thursday boats were cancelled due to the weather.
Lorna M — Google review
Really is a remarkable place. Took a long time to walk the 11.5 miles around the loch but it was worth it on a perfect day. Paths are good but watch out for some cyclists that go a bit fast. Dogs on leads to be safe.
Col C — Google review
Toilets are only open between April and October at this location. The path around the Loch is generally good although can be very wet in places. Very varied scenery on the route from views over the Loch to fairly dense woodland. Various benches dotted along the path as well as bird watching hides.
Michael W — Google review
Fabulous boat trip to the Island and back. The Island and Castle are well worth visiting. Famous for keeping Mary Queen of Scots prisoner for over a year. . There are toilets on the Island. Flush but no running water for hand wash. They are clean and tidy. Boat holds 12 passengers and run every 45 mins.. weather permitting. Book in advance. No cafe or takeaway. So take a picnic. ..A very nice day out for £10. .

Loch Leven Brewery is a micro-brewery located at the entrance to Kinross Golf Courses. The brewery offers premium beers inspired by local Scottish heroes, such as Mary Queen of Scots and Andrew Carnegie. The taproom provides a relaxed and dog-friendly atmosphere where visitors can enjoy quality beer and friendly staff. Customers appreciate the traditional brew style and the helpful advice from the bar staff.
Staying across the road at the Green and popped over to sample the beer. Had a couple of pints of Kingslayer. Absolutely fabulous. Just the job. Really fresh and slides down very easily. Here for the weekend and know exactly where I will be heading tomorrow evening. Small tap room adjoining the brewery and whilst there an eclectic mix of people were in making a really good atmosphere. Plenty of opportunities to buy the different types of beer sold. An interesting bottle is the growler which is a very large bottle and you fill it with the beer of choice, fix the cap, take home and drink the contents, wash the empty bottle out and then take back for a refill.

Nice tap room located near the centre of Kinross. They have their own locally made beers on offer, with an option of a beer flight to try them all. They also have some Cold Town Beers, plus wines and local gins. Staff are friendly and venue is clean and comfortable.

While this castle is very, very small it is still a nice experience. The views of the Loch are quite nice from here and it is a short but lovely walk from Milnathort. It is a great place for kids to run and play. During the season you can pop across the road to pick up the key to get inside. It is well cared for and an interesting part of Scottish history.

Literally at the side of the road so worth parking up and having a wander. Not open when we visited but there is limited opening at certain times of the year. What is left is quite impressive. An attractive 15th century three storey tower joined to some surviving courtyard wall with a gate and then a corner tower. James VI of Scotland was a regular visitor. There is a helpful information board.

not open everyday, I thought this was abandoned and open 24 hours. so I could onlu take outside photos. No pave to park either. Not even a Grass field to use.

Small little castle ruins, there is access to the towers and can go up a flight of stairs. One has had some restoration work with some windows and a roof. Varied opening times so I'd check the heritage scotland website before hand. Free entry no need to book. No parking, we drove right past, had to drive for a bit to turn around. Found a quiet street next to houses close by.

Quick visit on a Sunday afternoon. Need to go back when it's open to see inside. And to take better photos 🙂

Small but difficult to park safely nice example of a small Scottish castle with a lot of history the Balfours from 1456. Mary of Guise visited as did James the sixth a frequent visitor . access is not available but you can enter the grounds and walk round

Lovely wee place, soaked in history and a lovely start for your walk, summer only .
Carl S — Google review
Look's to have a small car park but it's overgrown and is not useable? (noted by the other gate in the fence into castle grounds) The castle was owned by the Balfour family perhaps related to Jamie Balfour featured in the film Kidnapped? Much of the stone is missing likely used by local builder's to build private dwelling's. What is left suggests a most impressive castle that was virtually raised to the ground after the Jacobite war of 1716.

Nestled in the heart of Kinross, The Court House is a culinary gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. This beautifully restored former courthouse has become a local favorite, renowned for its exceptional wood-fired pizzas that are said to rival those found in Italy. Open throughout the day, it offers a delightful menu featuring breakfast, lunch, and dinner options alongside tempting cakes and bakes.
Such a gorgeous and stunning venue. Lovely staff, and the coffee and cakes are amazing. Would highly recommend the bacon sandwich too!

Loved working from this space – such a cool building with everything you need to get stuff done. The team were super friendly and made it really easy to settle in. Great vibe, great people, and the member events were a nice touch too. Being able to book meeting rooms here and over at the Flour Mill in Dundee was a real bonus – made things super flexible. Big thanks for having me – wishing you all the best! 😄

Lovely Food, Friendly Staff. A bit of a long wait to be served. It would have been a 5 star if it wasn't for the fact even though they had a vegan menu, the chips were not good separately. So instead of chips I had a rocket salad with my open sandwich of Hummus and roasted veggies. They also do Oat Milk and Sorbet.

Back for another concert at Backstage at the green so we decided to eat somewhere new. Our friends booked a table for 4 at The Courthouse. Superb choice. Everything is jist right. We avoided starters as we had seen the size or the pizzas. Made on site in their own oven. These are superior thin crust big boys. A real meat feast of salami italian ham mushrooms and olives. Only in Italy have i been served anything to rival this. The usual favourites are also available. Fish n chips, hamburgers etc. There is a good choice.Another treat i am glad i didn't miss was the home made mixed berry cheesecake. A Wonderful culinary experience. The staff were really nice, friendly and attentive. Situated 3 minutes walk from Green Hotel. This place is definitely well worth a visit. I dare you to look at my pics and disagree .

Great facility. Good workstations with monitors to connect to. A good atmosphere with local users along with free tea and coffee. I wasn't able to connect to the correct wifi so I was on the public one, which I had to log back into every 45 mins. Also would be good if it opened at 0800 instead of 0900

The Raj Mahal Indian Restaurant, located in the heart of the city, offers an extraordinary dining experience with its authentic Indian flavors and opulent decor. The buffet dinner is a grand affair that showcases the diverse cuisine of India. Despite some occasional disappointments with certain dishes, the overall experience at this restaurant has been excellent for many patrons. The extensive and reasonably priced menu, along with generous portions and great service, make it a top choice for a satisfying meal out.
Wife and I have been to eat in a few times. Food has always been of a very good standard and lots of it. Very attentive staff. If you get more than a dozen people in the restaurant and all talking at once you can't hear yourself think. Would highly recommend their food.
Jill D — Google review
We gave you a second chance after you reduced your portion sizes, but that’s it. 6 pieces of lamb, 2 prawns, tiny pakora that is more batter than chicken, a half full dhal and special rice with the special taken out. Hugely disappointed again. Let us know when you start doing reasonable portion sizes.
Alex R — Google review
Had a meal here with a friend on Friday night. The food was amateurish: over-cooked lamb chops, no depth of flavour in the curry sauces. The Chicken Biryani was oily and heavy on the turmeric. The Goan Chicken tasted like a jar of shop bought sauce with no depth of flavour. The staff were uninterested and dismissive of the feedback. Its been 10 years since I last tried this place, and I'll not be back in the next 10. The food was eaten as we were both hungry, and it was edible. I expect to eat out and be served food better than I can prepare at home. This was sadly not the case. I told 2 of the staff members that I was very disappointed, but they didn't seem to care.

Great buffet, basic selection with 3 mains and lots of extras. Good fresh food, in and out 30 mins 👏👏 great value for both food and drink, 2 buffet meals and 2 large cokes for £32 very clean and a nice atmosphere. Would recommend.

Been many times but disappointing start tonight with soft chewy Poppadums, not crisp as should be. Lamb tikka was also not tender but tough and chewy. Chicken Tikka, Patia sauce and cheese nan were all very good. Never had problems before, so can only hope its a one off. Complained to waiter but no deduction on our £45 bill for two people was offered. Service was excellent. We advised we were going to a nearby concert, so we did receive quick service 😳
Dennis S — Google review
The food was fine. Lamb tikka was a little small portion and chewy, but the veggie platter was big and very tasteful. Naan was nice and fluffy. There was a big group of rowdy guys in the restaurant (nothing the restaurant can do anything about), but with their noise it became very hard to communicate as it is a bit of an echo chamber.

The BEST pizzas! Traditional wood fired pizzas ready in 10mins. This place does one thing and does it well with friendly staff too. Stopped off on the way up to the Cairngorms, at less than 5 mins from the services on the M90, worth it for the short detour. I was able to order online whilst my partner drove and the pizza was ready as we arrived and we were able to pull up right outside - perfect!! Thank you

We had 2 delicious pizzas from here on Saturday night. Staff were so friendly and helpful, we were arriving late back from a day trip in Edinburgh and they had the pizzas ready and waiting for us after hours. Thanks so much 🙏🏽!! Fantastic pizza. Thin, tasty and authentic. We stopped here right before they close and the service was excellent. There’s no dine-in option, but we enjoyed our pizzas at the tables outside, at the cozy sidewalk, watching the locals walk their dogs in the evening. Highly recommended!

What a brilliant place for a fresh made pizza. Staff deserve 6 stars as they were super friendly and allowing my 21 months old to see how craft is made

Came here today with the family and were genuinely impressed. The pizza was the best we’ve ever had- even better than in Italy. You can feel the passion behind it. Thin, crispy base and incredibly juicy toppings. Worth the one-hour drive. We’ll be back for sure.

The Muirs Inn is a charming restaurant in Kinross that offers a delightful dining experience. The staff are incredibly accommodating and welcoming, making sure everyone feels comfortable, including those with special needs. The food is delicious and well-presented, with a menu that goes beyond typical pub-chain fare. While some dishes may need a bit more flavor, the overall experience is excellent.
We stopped in here for a bite to eat at lunchtime. Getting a table was no problem, although it did get busy as we were having our lunch. We were taken to our seats and then ordered. We went for the haggis bon bons, breaded haddock, steak & pie and a sticky toffee pudding to finish. The bon bons were really nice with a nice dressed salad and dipping sauce as an accompaniment. My haddock was nicely cooked with proper chips and "hot" garden peas along with it. The steak pie was loaded with meat, which tasted nice, although some of the pieces of meat were a bit too big and weren't as tender as the smaller pieces, and the ale flavour was very mild. The chips which came with it were excellent and the veg looked and tasted fresh. The sticky toffee pudding was very nice. Overall, it was a good lunch, and at a shade under £80 for two (including two lattes, a tin of Irn Bru and two other soft drinks), the price was on par with similar establishments. The servers were polite, prompt, and well presented. The toilets were clean and tidy. There is a small car park to the rear of the building or on the street if this is full. It's a really nice place to have lunch.

Liked this pub as it has lots of different rooms to sit in, also a nice patio area outside which gets the sun. Quick and attentive service. Real ale was a real bonus. It was Sunday early evening so sport was on the 2 screens, other areas to sit if you prefer that. They do food but didn't eat there. Have heard that the food is good.

My husband and I came for dinner and got the Muir’s Inn burger and the steak and ale pie and both were incredible. The young man who was our waiter was very friendly and great to chat with. The atmosphere was very homey. We very much Ed enjoyed our dinner and experience

We came here recently with our newborn and just got there in time before they temporarily closed the lunch dining - they must reopen for dinner later in the evening. We were told we’d only have an hour but we were perfectly fine with that as any longer may have disrupted our newborns routine. Service was good, friendly staff, and considerate. Our baby was sleeping so the waiter spoke to us quietly which was very thoughtful. At one point I needed to change our baby and I was heading to the gents, I was chased down by a waitress who told me they do actually have a baby changing room but it was through the back, she showed me where and it made life easier. It was refreshing to experience such compassion and care, not everywhere is so welcoming of newborns. Our food was good, I thoroughly enjoyed mine. My partner did too, the only thing we’d say about the fish and chips was the fish batter was greasy, I put this down to there not being enough time to drain it or let it rest before serving. Won’t stop us coming again. We did not stay in the hotel, can’t comment on rooms or bar atmosphere.

Our Golfing Group unable to play on Monday due to the storm. 12 of us visited and had a great afternoon and we were looked after brilliantly by Alana who kept the beer flowing with a smile on her face. Great pub!

Up in Scotland for the stock car racing in Cowdenbeath. Proof if needed events help the surrounding community. Food and atmosphere was incredible as was the bar for drinks beforehand. Only going 4 stars because once I'd finished my main nobody came to ask if I wanted another drink or desert which I would probably have had both. Definitely come again next time I'm this way.
