Dragon's Cave, located near Lake Orestiada and just a short distance from Kastoria, is one of Greece's newest and most remarkable caves. It boasts seven underground lakes, 10 chambers, and five tunnels adorned with stunning stalactites and stalagmites. The well-lit pathways and stairs make it easy to explore this natural wonder. Visitors are treated to an informative display of photos and descriptions at the exit hallway.
Maybe it's not the biggest cave in Greece but surely is the most attractive one, since the scenery completely changes all the time. It includes 7 lakes too. The presentation is wonderfull with recorded tour, nice lighting and a safe route to visit. Totally worth it
Makgreece — Google review
I've been to several caves in my travels and this may be the very best. It's well laid out, easily accessible, well illuminated and the formations are close enough to the path that you can fully appreciate their beauty. Tip: Rent a bike and make this stop part of your trip around the peninsula. The terrain is flat and it's a beautiful, quiet and peaceful trip that's easily completed within a couple of hours, including stops. Perfect for relatively inexperienced cyclists.
Jonathan K — Google review
Great place to visit. A luxury tour where we were the only ones in a cave listening to the guide from the speakers in our native language. The cave isn't big but it's totally worth it. Definitely recommend for a visit. Thank you for a wonderful hospitality!
Natalja S — Google review
Took about 20 or so minutes to go through the cave system. Everything was paved with concrete real well and easy to navigate. There are some steps in it and some areas are slippery with some moisture but nothing serious. Our tour was self guided as they graciously played an audio recording throughout the cave in English so we could understand the areas and the history of the cave. We were grateful they did this for people that only spoke English. The areas were all very interesting and unique in their own way. Some had water, some had more stalagmites/stalagtites than others and some had larger open areas. Very unique place to visit while up in Kastoria. Such a beautiful area!
Jay H — Google review
Interesting cave. You can take a taxi going here or just walk if its a good day. One of the highlights when visiting Kastoria. It takes about 20 minutes to explore inside the cave. Very well lit and safe. They play the audio guide in different languages. Just let them know which language you prefer.
Jullynd G — Google review
Wonderful experience. Quite long. Amazing atmosphere. Well organized.Different labirents. Well lighted. But take a strong electric torch 🔦 with you if possible. Go there by walking. The road is mesmerising also.
Boris B — Google review
This was a great place to visit, the formations in the cave were beautiful. It was informative too, and you get to learn about the cave through a speaker as you walk through. You do get a limited time however, around 15 minutes before you get hurried along. I think this was good though as it's not too busy when you are in there. Would recommend when in Kastoria.
Amber W — Google review
Great cave, nicely located outside Kastoria, just by the lake. A nearby cafe. The cave itself is very nice, still active stalectites!! Entrance only 6 euros, there is a guided vocal naration inside. Very recommended.

A beautiful byzantine church, with old paintings on the walls. It's amazing how they have managed to survive for all these years. The location is very serene, next to the beautiful lake Orestiada.
Cookie C — Google review
Wow, amazing frescoes!! Nicely located by the lake, less than 1km from the dragons cave. Highly recommended due to multiple ancient frescoes. Also, the road itself around the lake is tranquile and worth driving. Please note they close at 13:00...
Erez M — Google review
For those of you who are or are not religious, a very nice find. Very picturesque
Michele H — Google review
One of the most amazing, stunning and breathtaking byzantine church/monastery of all time. Inside the temple a person can witness a large variety of murals from saints and their story. Just looking at those pretty rare wall paintings make you wanna burst into tears. Although the atmosphere is hefty through natural declines of time , it is preserved in a very good condition by locals. There is also a gift shop and a cafeteria nearby with low prices and a exquisite lake view.

The Folklore Museum of Kastoria (Nerantzis Aivazis Mansion) is a unique attraction that offers a glimpse into the history and traditions of Kastoria. Housed in an old mansion, the museum showcases daily life in Kastoria from years past, with well-preserved items and rich decorations throughout its different rooms. Visitors appreciate the opportunity to see how people used to live in the old days and admire the good condition of the exhibits.
Definitely worth visiting. Very interesting to see how people used to live. And how their life was influenced by ottomans. I wish the government took better care of the building.
Katya D — Google review
A private initiative museum based in a very nicely restored upper class mansion of the 18th century. Worth visiting as it depicts Kastoria’s glorious past; moreover, it’s the only way to support founders’ effort as the state gives no subsidy!!
EVI A — Google review
What a lovely little gen, nestled away in the old back streets of the old town. With a lovely lady to tell you about the other times and history of the house and we used to live. For a few euros a very please half hour spent in this very old house. With original doors. Art work on the walls and doors from 100s of years back. A well worth the money and time spent here. Would highly recommend this a must do visit in this small town. And should be the one museum must see.
Shane H — Google review
A series of well-preserved rooms in an old house,  depicting how the Kastorian people lived about a hundred years ago. The rooms were interesting enough, but the narration was a bit odd, with an older woman dashing from group to group delivering brief, canned spiels about each display. Overall a nice stop if you are nearby, but not a must.
Jonathan K — Google review
Very unique and informative! The lady curator will take you around personally and explain everything. The original furnishings and incredibly detailed wall paintings are exquisite.
Susan B — Google review
Fabulous old fur house. Lovely staff and great information! Highly recommended.

Wonderful practical history lesson. A great way to learn how the rich people of the area lived in the past and what luxury actually meant at that time compared to what it means today. Definitely worth paying a visit!
Ingrid B — Google review
I usually find folklore museums a little repetitive, but this one was very unique. There are many different rooms, rich with decorations and wall painting. The guide is very friendly and knowledgeable. If you enter and don't see her, she will probably be upstairs, as this is where her office is.

The establishment is meticulously maintained, ensuring a comfortable setting for diners. Very beautifully interior design. The food was amazing as well . A little salty for our taste but it was delicious. We loved the gabage rolls . The service was profesional . Again, we loved the cosy interior. Totally recommend. The prices are logical . Best value for money.

Following the amazing location and views outside the restaurant, we were welcomed with a warm and cozy atmosphere inside. A really well taken care of establishment. Regarding food each plate was apparently made with fresh ingredients and cooked to the point. Except for a minor salt imbalance the whole course was amazing. Lastly the staff was really accommodating, coordinated and polite.

We had an excellent experience at Παλιά Πόλη! We ate delicious food including some local variants such as the cabbage rolls with rice and kima. They were absolutely delicious as was everything. The Kastoria red wine was lovely, as was the crano liqueur. The wifi worked well. The decor inviting and the service top notch! I hope I get the opportunity to go again before we leave Kastoria.

we had a vegetarian supper which included three dishes, all of them good, particularly the mushroom fingers. Dimitry, a most experienced waiter, gave us a supeb service. Thank you, Dimitry.
Mario D — Google review
The food here is both tasty and interesting. We had three dishes and loved every one of them. I especially recommend the fried mushrooms with garlic sauce. The courtyard was attractive, across the street from the lake, but still with a nice view of the water. The waiter was friendly and entertaining and gave us free dessert at the end.

Old Town is a really nice Cody restaurant in the Old Town 😂. The food was really good and the value for money is great. We ordered two meat dishes, two starters and 4 glasses of wine and we paid 30 euro! They loose one star for the service. We we the only ones sitting inside and they were really late to see us and take orders and payment
George D — Google review
Great setting and view by the lake, serene and big garden full of roses, warm hospitality, the crispy oyster mushrooms and fried feta with an almond and hazelnut crust was delicious, the fig prosciutto salad not so much. In general, a decent dinner.
Elvan K — Google review
The food was delicious! Especially the fried mushrooms and the mushroom risotto. The service was good and the prices decent. The atmosphere was relaxed. I would recommend this place!

(Translated by Google) The store should first inform the staff about the items it serves. Roasted Florina peppers, I ask if they are roasted at that moment or if they are frozen with vinegar? My girlfriend replied that they are roasted at that moment and then you add oil and vinegar, but frozen peppers came without oil and without vinegar. The sausage was half roasted and half uncooked, the meats were garnished with Russian salad...!!! But Russian salad, you atheists? Where did you see this? Anyway, I never return dishes, I never make a story in the store because other groups eat next door and I don't want to cause problems. A bad experience and I'm glad I went because they suggested another store at the hotel. Unfortunately, if you want tourism, you have to be careful what you serve.

Mavriotissa Cafe - Restaurant is a delightful and welcoming establishment that offers a wide range of beverages. They serve retsina wine, which comes in three different varieties. The menu features traditional Greek cuisine, including an array of salads, meats, and fish options. The cafe's location is splendid and provides a perfect spot to relax while observing the unhurried pace of Greece, accompanied by soulful Greek melodies.
Beautiful location with a great view and fantastic food. The portions are big and delicious. We had trout and spit roasted chicken with a really tasty grilled obergine on the side. The service is great and the people are very kind.

It’s a nice friendly cafe selling a good selection of drinks. I had retsina wine and had a choice of three kinds. Food is classic Greek with a choice of numerous salads, meats and fish. Th er location is good too to watch the world go by in slow Greek motion to the backdrop of moody Greek music.

Everything was, the food was nice, even though the portions were small for the value. The setting next to the lake was amazing. What I didn't like is that they pretend their credit card device is not working and they don't give a proper receipt.

Beautiful place with nice tables right next to the lake, enjoy the gentle breeze while eating delicious dishes made with love. Service was very friendly and the menu is large, with many dishes that match whatever you are in the mood for, including some daily specials off the menu. This restaurant is worth a visit to Kastoria. All dishes are prepared with regional and fresh ingredients. You can tell that the chef has already worked internationally, as each dish combines a twist between modernity and tradition. He's obviously very talented and all dishes are masterfully prepared. The dessert was not on the menu and was served to us by the chef himself and this dish can hold its own with any Michelin-starred cuisine.

Excellent middle-eastern twist to traditional northern Greek recipes. Lahmatzoun is a very good variation on the original. It is prepared with a thicker than usual pita and beef mince, plus excellent local cherry tomatoes, onions etc. Very nice indeed!

Great chef, interesting menu with a large selection of salads, cheese concoctions, interesting vegetarian selections, meats and seafood. We could not order everything on the menu (we wanted to!) but everything we ordered was excellent. Small but good wine selection, we had the Alpha Estate. If we didn’t have the wine, it would have been €20 per person, very reasonable for the quality of the food

During my visit to Ta Kopsidia restaurant in early autumn '21, I observed that only vaccinated individuals were allowed entry. Fortunately, the weather was pleasant, allowing me to enjoy sitting outside. The appetizers consisted of tomato balls, cheese balls, stuffed "florinis" (red pepper), and grilled "batzos" cheese.
Walking by we were impressed by the environment. We entered and we were more impressed by the service and the food. We recommend it. When in Kastoria don't miss it

I was there early autumn '21. Entry only to vaccinated people. Was lucky enough the weather was good and we sat outside. Our appetizers was tomato balls, cheese balls, stuffed "florinis" (red pepper), grilled "batzos" cheese. Our lunch was 2×"kotsi", a handmade stuffed burger, a pork steak and a "psaronefri" fillet. Also we had some soft drinks. Prices was some bit expensive... 73€ (for us 5). The quality was good, but not anything gourmet or special. Good tasty but for the price range I had taste better food elsewhere. The lake view is relaxing. We where happy staying there but without extreme feeling about it.
Nick M — Google review
The only reason that this review isn't on one star is because the meat was decent. That's where the positives end. The fries were beyond terrible. The service was outrageous. We didn't get menus or even water for over 30 minutes and after ordering we got our food exactly an hour and thirty minutes after. We didn't get any water after asking multiple times until we got food. The only thing the staff had to say is that we happened to be there on a "change of shift". Although I doubt that they changed the entire shift at 3 pm sacrificing their service for the most crucial hour of the day. Other tables around us had similar issues with an entire table of 8 next to us straight up leaving since they didn't get served for over 30 minutes and another one begging for the bill for an entire hour.

Lookouts
The Holy Church of the Virgin Mary Koubelidiki, dating back to 1020 AD, is a significant landmark in Kastoria. Situated on the acropolis next to the Byzantine Castle, it was originally named Skoutariotisa or Invincible and later derived its name from the Turkish word for dome. The church features hagiographies from the 15th century and is often referred to as the Byzantine Parthenon of Kastoria.
A beautiful post-byzantine church of interesting architecture at the centre of Kastoria. A little hard to walk there on foot as it is uphill, but definitely worth it! There are some byzantine walls nearby as well.

Kastoria has multiple Byzantine churches, and this is one of the most beautiful ones. Located in a residence neighbourhood in town center, it has an adjucent parking lot. The bulding is nicely preserved including someoutdoor frescoes. There is another nearby church some 100m apart Unfortunately, the church itself is closed an the interior cannot be seen from the outside.
Erez M — Google review
Small church, located on top of the hill. We could not see it inside, but from the outside it looked pretty unpreserved. It has a large yard space, so the kids had some fun with their bikes:) the area was super quiet. Be mindful if you are walking from the bay to here there are lots of stairs to go up to get here.

A small but very old church, located on the hill of the old town of Kastoria. One of all 72 churches in the city.

(Translated by Google) Very nice temple, the trademark of the city of Kastoria. It was built in 1020 AD. X in the acropolis of Kastoria next to the two towers of the Byzantine Castle, a small part of which is preserved to this day. It is dedicated to Panagia and the original name was Skoutariotisa or Invincible. The name kumbelidiki was derived from the Turkish word kumbes meaning dome. The first part of the Church as you enter has hagiographies from the 15th century. Because it had suffered destruction and was repaired, while from the middle to the sanctuary it has the original hagiographies of the beginning of the 11th century. In the Church there is also a rare for the Orthodox Church an icon of the Holy Trinity with a depiction of all the faces.

(Translated by Google) Church of Panagia Koumbelidiki. On the acropolis of the Byzantine castle of Kastoria, very close to the wall, stands one of the most important Byzantine monuments in Macedonia, Panagia Koumbelidiki (mid-9th century-early 11th century), as it is known today. The church was bombed in 1940 during the Greco-Italian War, and then lost most of its dome, which was restored in 1949. Its name comes from the word “koumbes”, which means dome, and was created during the Turkish occupation, to indicate the main feature of the church, which is the only one with a dome in Kastoria. Its Byzantine name was probably Panagia Skoutariotissa and Akatamachitos, epithets that befit the Virgin Mary's status as the protector of the walls and are found in an inscription on the crown of the dome. The church was built in the form of a three-nave cruciform with a dome and a narthex. Its isostructural masonry is decorated with toothed bands and ceramic letters on the vertical joints or on a frieze, a characteristic element for the monuments of Kastoria. The dome has a tall and cylindrical drum, decorated with glazed abaci, which develop in three zones, and with ceramic letters. In its largest part, the main church and the inner narthex preserve very good quality decoration, dating from the period 1260-1280. In later renovations, newer frescoes were added to various parts of the church.

Museum
The Museum of the Macedonian Struggle at Kastoria is a two-level museum located in the village of Dispilio, near Lake Kastoria. It showcases historical elements from the Macedonian struggle, including letters, weapons, furniture, and more. The museum also features valuable information about local heroes and offers a friendly and knowledgeable tour guide. Situated in the old town, it provides a neat space with interesting exhibits that make for an important and inspiring visit.
The museum reflects the struggle of the Greek patriots against the dark forces that were trying to invade, occupy and expel the Greek populations from their ancient homeland. And some people dare to call this a”fascist”

The Piheon Mansion is located on the homonymous street, next to Doltsou Square, in the traditional core of Kastoria. It was built in the second half of the 19th century by the Papazoglou family and soon became associated with the family of the teacher and fighter Anastasios Piheon. His son, Filolaos Piheon or Captain Philotas, was born here, who participated in the liberation of Kastoria in 1912, and important events of the early Macedonian Struggle and the New Friendly Society took place in it at the end of the 19th century. The two-story building, with a stone base and a wooden superstructure, has a characteristic cross-shaped hall and belongs to the third type of Kastoria mansion, according to N. Moutsopoulos. Inside, morphological elements of the era are preserved, reflecting the wealth and artistic sensitivity of the residents of Doltsou. The building belonged to the descendants of the Anastasios Pihion family, who initially ceded it to the Ministry of Culture in 1972 with the aim of establishing a Museum of the Macedonian Struggle. However, the inaction of the Greek state forced the Pihion family to reclaim the mansion and ceded it to the Municipality of Kastoria. The Association of Friends of the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle, with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, completed the restoration and since 2010 the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle has been housed here. (πηγή: sfmma.gr)

The Museum of Costumes (Emmanuel Mansion) is a treasure trove of traditional costumes from Kastoria and the surrounding region. Housed in the Emmanuel mansion, it showcases a diverse collection of male, female, and children's attire, offering insight into the local sartorial heritage. Visitors can also marvel at an array of jewelry, coins, and uniforms that were integral to everyday life in Kastoria.
By far our favorite museum from our visit to Kastoria. My wife and I happened upon it walking back into the city from lake Orestiada and noticed it was closed but with a cell phone number we could call for an appointment. We gave it a shot and called; Nektarios answered, one of the curators, and in what seemed like 5 minutes was there and excited to give us a personal tour! This 1750 mansion stands out from the rest with its thoughtful craftsmanship, attention to detail, and resourcefulness. The museum inside is run and curated by the musicologist society "Armonia" made up of locals like Nektarios who gave us the best experience we could have asked for; accommodating to language barriers, deep knowledge regarding the craftsmanship and history of the exhibits, and achieving that sense of time travel and connection to the people that crafted, treasured, and passed down these amazing works of art. 100% worth checking out.

Service got 4 stars only because it took so long to pay attention to us, From that moment on, everything was great! The two plates where looking great, tasted great and we cleaned the plates. The simit dough of the Breakfast pizza was perfect. The English breakfast was great, too. A place to return to. Next time I'll visit Kastoria!

I recently visited this lovely lakeside spot, and it was fantastic! The outdoor area is beautiful, perfect for enjoying the views. Inside, the colorful decor really brightens the place up. We tried the chicken gyros, and they were amazing! The meat was flavorful, and the sauce was delicious—we couldn’t get enough. Plus, they were super filling! The service was a bit slow, but it didn’t bother us. The nice atmosphere made it easy to relax and enjoy. Can’t wait to come back!

A bit of immature attitude from the young waiter who was also bitting his nails and spitting them on the floor... 21/10/23 18.35pm but everything else was perfect 👍
