Grotte di Castellana, located 40km southeast of Bari, is Italy's longest natural subterranean network. Discovered in 1938, the cave system features a 3.2KM-long and 230-foot deep tour route with stunning limestone formations such as stalactites and stalagmites. The highlight is the Grotta Bianca (White Grotto), adorned with delicate stalactites.
Amazing experience. We have done the Speleonight tour! My daughters were super enthusiastic. The guides were super kind and professional. Angelo and Rosanna thank you for your work. Super suggested.

You are not allowed to take pictures beyond a certain point. For me, the most amazing caves I ever saw. The experience is totally worth it. The entire area around is also very nice. It's not too slippery, not too cold. The guides are nice, tours are available in many languages. Booking in advance is recommended

It was like Cheddar Gorge in England, on steroids. Definitely worth a visit. You can only take photos in the first cave which was the least amazing, because of a risk of flash damaging natural fungi etc. This was the least amazing cave. I went on an arranged tour.

Nice cave but for us the experience was totally ruined by the 'can't be bothered' miserable attitude of the staff. One in the front and one in the back making sure that nobody took a surreptitious photograph, apparently, we were told because of the copyright of the company. I don't think you can copyright caves. More to do with the guards wanting to get through as quickly as possible. We were put in a massive group of around 100. All different nationalities, with an 'English Speaking' guide, although I'm English and I was picking up maybe 3 words of each sentence it was that bad. I could hardly see above people's heads we were so tightly packed and moving so quickly. No time to stop and admire the cave .. just rushed through like cattle. Twice we passed small Italian groups, all ambling along taking flash photos and video, yet we were rushed through so fast on the uneven floors, most of it badly lit. I'm surprised nobody fell and had an accident. We've been in lots of caves. Usually you go through alone, with headsets explaining the system. Some have music and light shows, making it very dramatic. This one is just boring. Not worth €18 per person. Total rip off.

Great experience! The 50 min tour suitable for small kids (4 & 6 y.o. enjoyed it). A bit to brief for adults/teenagers. During a 1km walk you're going to see a few amazing stone formations, hear a bit of history about the caves, and have a chance to imagine how this place looked like before it was turned into a tourist attraction. No need for any special shoes or outfits - a jacket and a pair of sneakers would do.
Wojtek C — Google review
Fantastic caves, but the experience is totally spoiled by the way it's run. It started badly when we were charged to park out car in a large car park in the village centre not far from the caves. But since the caves are the only attraction in town, the cost of parking ought to be included in the ticket price for visiting the cave. After buying our tickets, we were shown to the "planetarium" which is a miniature imax-style surround cinema where they played an animated film about possible alien life on other planets. But nobody could see it. The projector was so feeble that it took a couple of minutes of dark adaptation to seven see the image. And then people kept opening the door, causing bright sunshine to flood in and ruin the dark adaptation. They also give you pretty terrible 3D glasses that make the picture even dimmer. I guess this planetarium show is there to stop kids getting bored between tours of the caves, and it's a nice idea in principle. But the fact that they didn't invest in a decent projector system and didn't fit a light-proof entry system means it actually irritating for a lot of people. I heard lots of murmurings of "well that's 30 minutes of my life I'll never get back" upon leaving. But my biggest gripe of all is the actual cave tour itself. Not only do they try to stop you from taking photos beyond the first cave, but there's no mention of this at all before you buy your tickets. I LOVE visiting caves and have visited hundreds of them over the years. This is the first time I've been prevented from taking photos. I asked one of the two ladies what the reasoning was, and she said "Because it's our copyright". Which is total nonsense. Nobody has copyright over things that they did not create. And caves are created by the action of water over millions of years, they aren't man-made! I ignored their protestations and continued to take plenty of photos. In the end they stopped trying to stop me. I later looked up what possible genuine reasons they might have, and it's to protect the rocks from the effects of flash. Well why isn't that a problem in any other cave anywhere else? In any case I was taking photos and videos using a phone and a GoPro. There was no flash involved. If they really have a problem with people bringing proper cameras with powerful flash, then they should just tell people that photos are okay as long as there is no flash. Another problem is with the way the tour is guided. The tour guide at the front made an effort for people to gather around her before speaking, but her very soft voice was impossible to hear, especially since some of the visitors had brought babies who were crying the whole way. Inside the caves all you could hear is the crying of babies. Many cave site tour operators get round this by using radio mics with speakers hidden behind rocks in the caves. That way the guide doesn't have to shout, and everyone can hear easily. But no, there was nothing like that here. In summary, my biggest gripe is about their ridiculous ban on photography. For some of us, taking photos of the spectacular rock formations is a big reason for visiting in the first place. Admittedly they do say "no photography" in the guide they give you, but you don't see that until after you've bought your ticket. Pretty nasty way to operate. There's no good reason for them to ban photography, especially if you're doing it without a flash. But if you're to afraid to stand up for yourself, enjoy some of mine.
Alex T — Google review
Cool tourist attraction, but be sure to wear comfortable shoes with good grip — the caves are very slippery inside. The long tour was interesting, though I’d recommend the shorter 50-minute option.

Excellent visit to these extraordinary caves. Well worth a visit if you're in the area. A lot more F walking, but very safe to do so - and there's a lift to take you back to the surface!

(Translated by Google) The history of Carnival! When we talk about Carnival many think of Venice, Viareggio....but the most historic and probably eventful one is Putignano! In fact, everything has been repeated every year since 1394! In that distant period, Puglia suffered frequent attacks from the Saracens and the knights of Malta who governed these territories decided to protect all the assets from looting, including the relics of Saint Stephen, which were thus transferred from the city of Monopoli to Putignano! And during this transfer all the farmers left their work in the fields to join the procession, dancing, singing and acting, thus progressively transforming an event which then became ritual and in the last century was enriched with the mastery of the local artisans by introducing the floats with their respective choreographies! Some even place the origins of the event in the cult of the god Dionysius at the time of Magna Graecia! Today the event has become an object of interest for tens of thousands of tourists who for over a month can participate in the numerous events that follow one another for over a month and end with Shrove Tuesday! Tickets have variable costs depending on the day and if purchased online or at the box office, between €12 and €18 and reduced for children between 11-14 years. A subscription for the entire period of the event is also possible! If you come by car you can park 5 -10 minutes walk from the entrances located around the historic center! Along the circular route of the floats, 3 stages are set up for the various shows and concerts. There is no shortage of street food trucks! Well organised (Original) La storia del Carnevale! Ben organizzato

(Translated by Google) The Putignano Carnival is a truly beautiful event, well worth seeing. I was there for the second time this year (2025), and the first in the tragic 2020, just moments before we were imprisoned in our own homeland due to the well-known events. You pay a ticket to access the parade area, a reasonable amount—10 euros, I think—but in any case, money well spent. The only advice I can give is to prepare for a tour de force with a backpack and everything you need, comfortable shoes, and possibly an umbrella and raincoat. However, if it rains, the floats will obviously not be out until the rain stops and/or a date yet to be determined.

(Translated by Google) Extremely high price for five-six floats when the carnival should be FREE At the entrance they even took a can of Coca-Cola from my backpack, telling me that only glasses were allowed inside so I had to stick to the "rules" but then I saw that the bars were giving them cans, clearly at high prices. Really shameful. Davvero vergognoso.

Bed & breakfast
Accogliente Dimora is a cozy bed-and-breakfast located in the historical part of the city, offering unfussy quarters with complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi. The building is situated on the edge of the old town and provides a parking space within 200 meters. The host, Giuseppe, is known for his sincerity and delicious Italian breakfast. The place is spotlessly clean, peaceful, and comfortable.
Picked this one because it was fairly near Alberobello. Parking is a real challenge. Also, better for young people with good knees because of the 3 flights of stairs. The rooms were clean and felt save and comfortable.

(Translated by Google) A place that is not only beautiful but also cared for in a dedicated manner by its owner who, assisted by capable collaborators, enlivens the evenings with absolute dedication. Harmonious spaces and careful cuisine. Personally, I think GUAGLIÓ is a very well-kept place and the owner is a fabulous person who truly dedicates his work to customer satisfaction, looking for every detail that could be exceptional. In the kitchen it's difficult to say what's less good. Because from the appetizers to the desserts everything is delicious. The wait for the dishes is right because preparing everything at the moment is synonymous with quality which is difficult to reconcile with a dish that arrives at the table after 1 minute. Guaglió quality and courtesy entrusted to the care of a correct and kind person like Roberto. The wait staff is courteous, never intrusive, and above all, they don't "recommend" dishes—the sole purpose of which is to maximize the host's profit, not the quality of the customer experience. (Translated by Google) The tranquil and relaxing atmosphere so characteristic of this place is actually a decoy. On Friday evening, September 5th, we dined here. There were three of us, and my mother, my sister, and I wanted to spend a quiet evening catching up and chatting. We had dined here a few times before, and the atmosphere was always extremely peaceful, with incredibly courteous and helpful staff, all accompanied by very high-quality food, much higher in quality than other places. However, on September 6th, something completely inconceivable happened, which made us decide to never set foot in Guagliò again. The place didn't have any windows that day; the interior and exterior were practically interconnected, and you could enter and exit from any point. You can imagine the structure as a sort of gazebo, where the indoor area (which is closed during the winter) would be the area under the gazebo, and the outdoor area would be a sort of garden with tables in the center. We were dining in the hypothetical outdoor area (the garden) in a completely tranquil atmosphere, when suddenly we heard a terrible din... children (there must have been about five) emerge from the hedges of the garden, screaming at the top of their lungs and running wildly between the tables. After being practically startled by the sudden screams of two of the five children, we watched them cross the entire restaurant from outside to inside, virtually undisturbed. We then saw these children linger near the restaurant, continuing to run through it, laughing blissfully for about ten minutes. I don't believe these children were the children of any of Guagliò's customers, as they didn't actually interact with any of the other customers. At a certain point, they moved so far away that they seemed to have disappeared... so we realized they were most likely coming from outside the premises. However, after having disappeared for about 20 minutes, they reappeared from the same hedge and repeated those sudden, ear-splitting shrieks, running back across the entire premises as if it were their playground. All this occurred with the total and utter indifference of the owner and his staff, who in fact seemed to act as if they hadn't even noticed them and that it was clearly perfectly legal and completely normal. In practice, people outside, perhaps even unknown to Guagliò (in this case, five children), can enter the premises undisturbed, where they can run and scream to their heart's content as if it were their playground. Given the more refined appearance of this place, its seemingly tranquil atmosphere, and its above-average standards, we never expected to witness something like this. We certainly don't go to places like this to find an uncomfortable environment with screaming children running wild among the tables. Ultimately, we may have been unlucky that night, but the staff's total indifference to such an event is inconceivable to us. That said, if anyone reading this is looking for a quiet place to spend the evening, we would advise against this place. Its apparent tranquil and relaxing atmosphere is actually just a decoy. We certainly won't be returning. Have a nice day! Buona Giornata

Good honest food at excellent prices. Service was excellent. Friendly. We hadn't realised that we had wandered in at the end of service, which we never normally do. They were more than accommodating. Excellent service. Amazing prices. Good food at a great value for money. Thank you so much.

The proprietor of a local Italian family-owned establishment, Braceria Pizzeria Il Rifugio dei Frati, received instructions to serve the Canadian guests whatever he desired, and they had a truly exceptional dining experience. The menu featured an array of delectable dishes, such as charcuterie platters, baked mozzarella, calamari, mussels, lamb and steak. The flavors were exquisite and the ingredients fresh.
🎶Food Glorious Food🎶 The owner was instructed by our local italian family to simply bring whatever he wish to have "the canadian" guests eat and BOY did we eat! The dishes were all fresh and the flavours were delightful. Everything from simple charcuterie, baked mozzarella and calamari to mussles, lamb and steak. We ate like kings and the owner was a delightfully charismatic host that broke into random song while raising a glass of prosecco with us to toast the evening. Thank you for a deliscious experience.

Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Grotta del Trullo - Putignano, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Chiesa Matrice Parrocchia San Pietro apostolo - Confraternita di Maria SS Addolorata. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Grotta del Trullo, located just outside of Putignano in Italy, is a fascinating cave system that was discovered by chance around 80 years ago. The entrance to the cave is through a trullo and visitors can explore the different caves using a deep metallic staircase. This cave was once used as a temple to honor Athena, the goddess. Visitors can enjoy guided tours with knowledgeable guides who provide clear explanations in both English and Italian.
We found this hidden gem by chance. What we experienced during our visit to the cave was incredible. Only about 2 meters deep, the ground splits into a wonderful, amazing cave. Our guide, Davide, walked us through the cave giving us all the details with complete professionalism. I will leave some photos but, I assure you, what you will see when visiting this cave, is beyond imagination. We strongly recommend you to stop and dive into the cave and you will have the impression that you are in a story. Thank you, Davide!

This is a very interesting cave, with amazingly beautiful formations of rocks. At a very low entrance fee, we had a guided tour. Very interesting information was given to us from a kind and well informed scientist. I suggest everybody should go there.
Areti P — Google review
Very beautiful. I would recommend it instead of the bigger Castellana Grotte, as the cave is richer in stalagmites . I can’t remember the guide’s name, but he explained everything with calm and professionalism! Would recommend everybody to visit
Bogdan C — Google review
This was an excellent place to visit while in Putignsno! It’s a guided tour of the caves and it’s not a deep cave ( 20 meters to so) so the cave is very close to the above ground! It’s a beautiful cave system and the tour lasts 30 minutes or so and has stunning formations!
Mango R — Google review
Is a breathtaking experience 20m under ground, there is a wine cellar (you can't drink though), amazing rock formations, rock sales and tree roots, I recommend spending 30mins down there, or pay for a specialist and do an even deeper (40m) trip.

Nice and fun experience. Tour guide was really well informed and polite during his English tour. Worth the 7 euros for 30 minutes. Free parking.

Definitely worth visiting! Bring your kids to learn from friendly guides who effortlessly switch between English and Italian during the 30-minute tour. Free parking available. Check opening hours in advance. A very kid-friendly place — a bit pricey, but the experience is well worth it!

Amazing! This is so worth a visit. Only 20 mins drive from Alberobello. Spiral staircase and some ladders made this tour more interesting. But it’s prohibitive for someone with mobility challenges. Davida, the tour guide was so knowledgeable. The cave is cool at 16 degrees so take a sweater if you’re visiting in summer. €7 entry fee for adults but honestly would have paid more. Puglia’s first public cave!

Wow! What an absolute gem! We stayed at Dimora Clementina, initially for 7 nights, but we then decided to stay for an extra 2 days because everything was perfect. I don't think that a nicer, kinder and more accomodating host exists! Caterina is definitely the loveliest host we have ever had! Everything was exceptional: from the rooms, to the breakfast(wtih lactose-free options!), to the stunning decor, and the staff! We had no idea we were going to fall in love with Putignano and Dimora Clementina! Can't wait to go back! Nothing will ever top this!

We did not miss anything and loved it so much… What a start in the day 😍 The room is nice with a really comfortable bed and the shower is one of the best we experienced in Puglia 😍 All the staff is very friendly and we felt so good during our stay of 4 nights. It was a nice home base for trips to Alberobello, Monopoli, Bari and Polignano a Mare (a car is needed). Thanks a lot we enjoyed ourselves so much…

Our stay at Dimora Clementina in Putignano was one of the best hotel stays I have ever had. From the check-in process to the details in the room, including delicious smelling shampoo and quality slippers, to the fantastic breakfast, every detail has been thought about and presented to the guest with such quality and kindness. As a guest at the Clementina, you are made to feel welcomed before you even step into the courtyard. We stayed with our school-aged child and a good friend. The hotel figured out the best rooms for us and met us upon arrival, even though we were running an hour late. Once in the room, we were amazed by the beauty. Our room, #3, had a lovely balcony overlooking the main street and, the week we there, the festivities of Carnival, and a high, beautifully arched ceiling. Everything was clean, neat, and tidy. The tile floor was stunning and was a cool contrast to the more modern furnishings and light fixtures. We arrived in the evening, and Caterina, the host, booked a reservation for us at a local restaurant. We had been in Italy for five days, but our meal that night was the best we had. Each morning, we were greeted with a fantastic spread of local food in the breakfast room, and every day it was a little different. The fruit was delicious and perfectly ripe, and the coffee and juice were freshly made. There was always local cheese, cured meats, and a couple of delicious cakes and bread, each giving us a glimpse into the cuisine of Puglia. It turns out that the hotel's incredible host was the baker - amazing! Breakfast was also served on beautiful china and table linens. On our way out, I asked Caterina if she recommended any restaurants near our next hotel. The recommendation was so good that we ate at the restaurant twice. If I could give this hotel more stars, I would. We felt so pampered and welcomed! If you plan to be in Puglia, consider making Dimora Clementina your home base - three nights were not enough!

One one of the most amazing dining experiences. We have travelled all over the world and had many amazing meals but this one stood out above all. From the time we sat down, every detail and dish was memorable. We especially enjoyed learning about the inspiration of every dish and learning about the regional wine from the Somm. We can't wait to come back soon and do it all over again!

One of our best experiences in Italy. Service was outstanding, you feel like a royal being served by elegant and friendly staff. The food experience was unique and divine combination of ingredients. The price was what we expected to pay for this high level restaurant. The only thing that me and my partner agreed and they could improve is the decor, and display more art, instead of white walls. The place would be more cozy! Highly recommended for food and wine lovers.

(Translated by Google) The Rectory Church of S. Maria La Greca, in Putignano, dates back to the period between the 13th and 14th centuries. Over the centuries, it has undergone various alterations, especially in the 15th and 16th centuries, which led to its consecration in 1522 and its subsequent modification to a Greek cross plan. The tripartite façade reflects the seventeenth-century Baroque style, with a central portal flanked by Corinthian columns and smaller portals with oval windows. The interior, with three naves, houses an elegant high altar. The church houses precious works, including a Byzantine icon of the Madonna and relics of Santo Stefano Protomartire, which arrived here from the abbey of Santo Stefano in Monopoli thanks to the Jerusalemite knights. The reliquary of Saint Stephen and two recently restored sculptures of a pieta and Saint John are a real jewel. OMG—what a seafood lunch! We were treated to a 6-course degustation that completely blew us away. Honestly, the bread deserves its own course—it was that good. 😂 While Mirum does have a full menu, for us it was a “just trust the chef” kind of day—and we’re so glad we did. Each dish was a surprise, and each one outshone the last. The wine pairings? Impeccable. Massimiliano’s choices took everything to the next level. Service was top-notch, and Massimiliano’s banter and humor brought extra warmth to an already unforgettable meal. This lunch will live in our memories forever—a true highlight in Putignano. Bravo! 👏🍷🦐 We will definitely be back when we next venture down to Putignano. Forgot to take a photo of the mussles.😪 *AI helped me put a bit of polish to my review.

After an awful experience in a previous restaurant, we were delighted that the staff here willingly made room for us even though they had limited space. The man that greeted us went off and got another table from the back. The service was outstanding and the food was good. The best thing about the place though was how everybody there, including the staff, seemed like they were actually enjoying themselves. Would highly recommend a visit if in the area. The drinkers in the group also had high praise for the local wines.

Mirum, located in front of the main church in the old city, was our HQ for almost a week 😅 We had breakfast there every morning and returned some times in the evening for drinks and dinner when the atmosphere was wonderful 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹 Huge high five to Massimiliano! He's a legend who made our visit to Putignano even more enjoyable! We'll definitely be back!

Excellent food, I tried three different dishes and they were all excellent, but I must especially praise the pizza, which was phenomenal. The staff is very friendly and willing to help with wine selection. I felt at home.

Thanks to Massimiliano for a lovely week at Mirum! I say week as we quickly sympathised and became like friends! We visited Mirum everyday for breakfast and for drinks in the evening. It has a great atmosphere in the morning and a lively one in the evening. It shares the pure Italian vibe. The drinks are great, the food is nice and Massimiliano just made our week fabulous and friendly here ☀️ Putignano feels like home thanks to him! Until we meet again!

Located in the heart of Putignano's historic center, Santa Maria - Fornello Pronto is a charming little eatery nestled in the picturesque Piazza Santa Maria. This delightful establishment prides itself on its skillfully prepared dishes that showcase the artistry of a "ready cooker." It comes highly recommended for meat enthusiasts and those who appreciate natural wines. The attentive owners pay meticulous attention to every detail, ensuring a memorable dining experience.
High quality local products, service is friendly and the staff takes care of each customer's request. It is the perfect place to find out the beauty of dining in a small Apulian village, with its local traditional meat and vegetable rich flavours while contrasting the dangerous ways of eating that globalization is fostering in the region.

We had an excellent evening in this cosy restaurant. The 2 guys in the kitchen are extraordinary cooks and very creative. The service is very friendly! Good products with a good taste. For us it was the best restaurant in Puglia untill now. Thanks for the experience!

We had a great last night at Santa Maria! It was very authentic, very friendly and more than that we had a delicious dinner. Every single dish was a recommendation - the quality was excellent, the taste was amazing and people were very friendly. It is like Italian Tapas so you can try different dishes. The location itself is also very nice - some tables outside but also tables inside. This is a „must-do“ if you are around! Thanks a lot to the whole team!

Interesting concept with small, creative, grill-based dishes. Also ask for dishes of the day. Be sure to taste as much as possible including special cuts but also no-meat meals (e.g. porre onions from the grill).
Harald S — Google review
Great restaurant specialized in grilled meats. The meat are very good and cooked over hashes in their oven. They also offer grilled vegetables from the area and special cheese. It was delicious and it very affordable. They have a nice wine list and staff is super friendly and professional. This is a great place to have a cool and creative experience far from the regular osteria but very linked to the region specialities.

If you are looking for tasty, affordable and very typical south Italian meat, look no further, you found the place. If you are here, try the ‘gnummareddi’, or the old but gold ‘panino con salsiccia di vitello’. You won’t regret.

We had a pleasure of dining at Mammamè, an authentic restaurant specialized in the regional Apulian food and the amazing variety of mushrooms that grow in the area. The chef, Raymonda is a master of combing the delicate (and often unknown to us) flavors of galetti, paparazzi, trombetti, porcini, ovolo, and other funghi (mushrooms) with fresh pasta (orecchiette), meat and just as a carpaccio. Every dish was a delight, so we returned 5 more times to this place during our stay in Putignano. Though we didn’t have much room for a dessert, but couldn’t resist the temptation. And I’am so glad I did: because of the tiramisu and ricotta e pera (pear) were heavenly delicious. The service was great too, friendly and attentive .. and patient enough as my Italian was far from being perfect. As we asked the chef about one specific dish (fave e cicoria) - she gave us detailed instructions how to cook this Apulian dish at home. Can’t wait to return there next year

Delicious food! I tried sporchia for the first time (from the starters menu) — highly recommended if you’re a vegetarian looking to explore new flavors. The pasta was perfectly cooked and beautifully dressed. Be sure to save room for the tiramisu — it’s exceptionally soft and truly melts in your mouth. It’s an expensive restaurant, but the quality of the food and the excellent service make it well worth it!

This restaurant is something special, and would return anytime! Amazing steak with pepper sauce, deep fried veggies, and amazing porcini mushrooms pasta. Give it a try!
Vanessa B — Google review
Super tiny portions with not tiny prices considering it’s just pasta (no meat or seafood involved). Service was slow as there was only one waiter covering the whole restaurant. Also, the waiting time for food preparation was very long. On the positive side both dishes were tasty and the pasta was cooked “al dente”, as it should be.

Stunning food. Really enjoyed our lunch here. Every dish was superb. I recommend ordering off the chefs specials. Thank you 🙏🏻

If you are vegetarian I would very much recommend eating here! We had mushrooms to start, the pasta 3 ways with courgette, and also Spaghetti with a beautiful taste of lemon. And some home made tiramisu. Everything was prepared from scratch and you can taste the individual ingredients. . Very friendly service and one of the best meals we had here. Would definitely return and recommend.

(Translated by Google) On a Thursday evening spent with friends we gathered in this pizzeria. The pizza is quite good, for me also quite light, even if some people thought the opposite. The prices of the pizzas were essentially not exaggerated, even if they took a long time to arrive, despite the excellent table service from Deborah, a kind and always helpful waitress as well as smiling. Other foods other than pizza are out of the average. The service was excellent, and the gentleman who appeared to be the owner was also very kind. Without being able to understand each other, I was able to explain everything very easily, and I was helped quickly. Only the pizza was a little burnt on the bottom in some places, but the taste remained delicious. Definitely recommended!

Osteria Botteghe Antiche is a renowned restaurant located in the heart of Lecce, Puglia. It has gained popularity among food enthusiasts and gourmets for its warm and romantic atmosphere near the historic city center. The restaurant offers a wide range of Salento and Apulian specialties, including fresh fish and homemade pasta, providing visitors with an authentic culinary experience along the paths of Apulia.
This is an excellent restaurant with an outstanding wine list. We had dinner here, then came back for lunch the next day (Saturday) and wanted to come again Saturday evening to try some more wines... but it was fully booked. However as we left they said that if we could arrive promptly at 7.45pm that evening (effectively at opening time), they could fit us in. And hence we returned... and for the first half an hour pretty much had the place to ourselves, as clearly people here don't arrive much before 8.30pm for dinner. The food was all very good and interesting. And the choice of wines was wide, excellent and at all price points. Great local wines of course (we had a Primitivo and a Nero di Troia), but also a great selection of wines from elsewhere in Italy - and beyond. We had some Pinot Grigio and then the 2nd evening a white wine from Barolo - a Timorasso. A new experience for us and very enjoyable.

What a surprise. We were actually suppose to eat at the nearby pizzeria, but that was closed, so we thought lets try the Osteria Botteghe Antiche. What a great surprise! We both had the "asina" fillet, which came with zucchini for one of us, and potatoes for the other. I can only describe this as the most amazing steak I ever had. The meat was cooked to perfection, tender, tasty. The zucchini, I do not know what it was seasoned with, but it had a zesty, sweet, flowery taste. It was like you could taste and smell the field the donkey was feeding on. We had an excellent choice of wine. Those who served us were attentive. The waiters speak English. The whole place has a very relaxed vibe, very rustic, it is difficult to describe. It definitely need to be experienced!

Delicious food, I highly recommend the tasting menu that is called "Lascia fare a noi" which is a selection of 4 starters, 1st course, 2nd course and a dessert. Portions are of good size and so are very filling. We loved all that we ate, but the dessert, which was an unconventional tiramisu, was particularly delicious. Wine is also excellent, and for each glass, you get an explanation of its origin and story. Very attentive staff. When you come to this restaurant you don't only get to savour typical food from the region but you live an experience that most restaurants don't offer so don't miss this spot when in Putignano!

Unfortunately we found that the restaurant didn't compare to anywhere else we've eaten during our trip. We had high hopes, however all the first courses, including the speciality red cabbage, were completely tasteless (I've never had to ask for salt before) and the main courses equally as bland and tough. The Civic Museum of Putignano, donated by the Prince in 1967, is located at the house of Prince Romanazzi Carducci. The well-maintained building features several rooms where the Prince entertained guests and private quarters. Visitors can explore a carnival museum within the palace as well. The museum showcases a rich collection of artifacts, weapons, art pieces, antique furniture, paintings, clocks, and weaponry.
You'll see a mansion with furniture stratified upon time. Fascinating because real people lived there... Unfortunately not too much known!
