National park
Saxon Switzerland National Park, located in the eastern part of Germany near the Czech Republic border, offers a chance to connect with unspoiled nature and explore ancient architecture. The park covers 36.1 square miles and is part of the larger Saxon Switzerland region, which spans 274 square miles. It features hiking and biking trails, climbing areas, waterfalls, and tram service.
Amazing place to go. Highly recommend this trip if you are in Germany or Czech Republic. The views are worth the drive and hike.
Raj A — Google review
It's a truly magical place with majestic boulders, you're immersed in history and amazed at how unpredictable nature is at times. The view from the observation point is especially breathtaking, with a view of the entire valley and the river below.
Vita O — Google review
A small rock climbing place but busy with hundreds of climbers. The river and bridge are also beautiful. I say small because we have big cliffs in Australia.
Huahua X — Google review
Saxon Switzerland National Park is a great spot for a day trip. The trails aren’t too demanding, making it perfect for an easy hike through beautiful forest scenery. There’s a restaurant where you can grab a proper meal, an ice cream, or a coffee with a view. Lovely landscapes, peaceful atmosphere, and enjoyable for all ages — a really nice place to spend the day.
Luka G — Google review
It was a beautiful experience. So many trails to hike on and not enough time 🥲 I would want to come again! The park covers a wide area, and it could be hard to understand where to go. We first went around a little by car and ended up stopping at a few lookouts and trails. You can park your car at a certain point and explore the rest on foot. I would definitely recommend visiting the Bastei - the medieval bridge. It has an amazing view of the sunset and the rocks surrounding it leave you in awe. It would be better to drive to Bastei though after your hike in another part of the park; it gets dark pretty fast. We paid €7 for a 4-hour parking there.
HN C — Google review
Worth the visit if you are a nature lover and a hiker. There are beautiful views and lovely historic spots and stories.
Lenka B — Google review
Saxon Switzerland National Park is pure magic — a landscape where nature feels untouched and time slows down. Vast stretches of emerald-green forest cloak dramatic sandstone cliffs, creating a scenery so striking it feels almost otherworldly. Every path leads to views that take your breath away, from sweeping valleys to towering rock formations shaped by centuries of wind and water. The air here is remarkably pure, crisp, and serene, carrying the scent of pine and earth. Each breath feels like a renewal, a reminder of how healing nature can be when left in its raw beauty. The stillness of the park offers peace, while its rugged cliffs and winding trails inspire both awe and humility. Saxon Switzerland is more than a national park — it is a sanctuary of green, a masterpiece of natural artistry, and one of the most magical places in Europe.

2Schrammsteine

4.9

5 lists
Mountain peak
Schrammsteine is a stunning peak in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, offering challenging climbing routes and breathtaking lookout points. The hike to the top provides an opportunity to admire the unique blocky silhouettes against the blue sky. However, it's important to note that the last kilometer involves climbing via ladders and stairs, making it quite difficult. Currently, access may be restricted due to wildfires in the area.
Here's a detailed trail guide: • Length: Approx. 12 km round trip (depending on the starting point and route taken) • Difficulty: Moderate to challenging • Duration: 4-6 hours • Starting Point: The trail typically starts in the village of Bad Schandau or at the Schrammsteinbaude parking area. Bad Schandau is a popular base for many hikes in the park, and from here, you can either walk or take a bus to the trailhead at Schrammsteinbaude. The hike can also be started from other nearby locations like Ostrau, depending on the specific route you choose. 1. Schrammstein Viewpoint (Schrammsteinaussicht): This viewpoint is the main highlight of the hike, which is one of the most famous vantage points in Saxon Switzerland. From here, you'll have a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire Elbe Sandstone Mountains, with the Elbe River meandering through the valley below. The viewpoint is reached after a steep climb involving ladders and metal steps attached to the rocks. The final ascent requires a bit of scrambling, but the effort is well worth the stunning views. 2. Schrammstein Ridge (Schrammsteinkamm): After reaching the viewpoint, the trail continues along the Schrammstein Ridge, offering a thrilling walk along narrow paths with steep drop-offs on either side. The ridge itself is a series of jagged rock formations that create a dramatic skyline. This section of the trail is one of the most exciting and challenging parts, requiring surefootedness and a head for heights. The path is secured with handrails in some areas, but it still demands caution and concentration. 3. Wildschützensteig: This is an alternative route that can be taken during the hike, adding an extra level of adventure. This steep path involves climbing up iron ladders and navigating through narrow rock passages. It's a more demanding option but provides a unique experience of the rugged terrain and offers additional viewpoints along the way. 4. Schrammsteinbaude: On your return, you can stop by Schrammsteinbaude, a cozy mountain hut that serves as a rest point. Here, you can enjoy traditional Saxon cuisine and refreshing drinks, perfect for recharging after the hike. The hut is conveniently located near the trailhead, making it an ideal spot to end your adventure before heading back to Bad Schandau.

My first hiking experience in Germany was great. The trail has some steps and metal ladders, but it's worth it. At the end, when you reach the highest point, you’ll see the breathtaking view, and you will enjoy it. Bring water and snacks and wear good shoes.
Zeinab J — Google review
Such an awesoem Hike. We had a snack and Beer at the Schilkaer Brauhaus. That prepared us for what was to come. Such a fun hike. We had such a good time making our way up there. I can't wait to do it again. Take plenty of water with you. Wear proper shoes to make this journey. Well worth it if you are into Hiking. Don't rush and take your time.
Terence H — Google review
Great hike with a lot of steps and metal ladders to climb. Takes about 1.5 hours to reach the top. But the amazing view at the top is worth all the effort
Saurav G — Google review
Beautiful place 🏔️ 50 minutes away by car from Dresden 🚙 and it takes one hour to reach the end of the hike ✅ (perhaps more for those who enjoy taking photos and breaks). Bring along some beer or food to relax and enjoy the view from the top 🙋🏻‍♂️

Carolafelsen is a must-visit gem in the Saxon Switzerland region. It offers one of the most stunning mountain views, making it an unmissable opportunity for anyone in the area. The climb to reach this viewpoint may take some time, but the effort is truly worth it once you witness the breathtaking scenery from the top. Many visitors recommend taking the trail on the left side for a more dynamic and enjoyable ascent.
We chose the trail road in the picture, it took two hours with a few stops. Really suggest to climb up from the left side of the trail! Right one had much more steps and view during climbing up didn't seem so dynamic compared to the left one. It was a really nice end of winter walk :)

The National Park Center Saxon Switzerland offers an enjoyable hiking experience with beautiful panoramas and wild paths in a picturesque rock landscape. Visitors can embark on a leisurely tour from the Beuthenfall train station, equipped with maps and high spirits. The center provides valuable tips for climbing in the region, including local areas, parking advice, and routes recommended by friendly staff. It is also known for being very children-friendly and offering interesting information about the forest and mountains.

Kristina B — Google review
Ruggedly beautiful area with good infrastructure, and the local tourist department is doing its best to promote it, but it seems that many of the locals don't want to actually have tourists visiting here. Felt extremely unwelcome even though I speak quite fluent German. If you want to catch public transport in this area then sometimes there is no other option that walking along the road to get to the nearest stop. Don't expect car drivers in this area to leave you much space and keep in mind that the edge of the Kirnitzschtal tram extends about a meter out from the edge of its tracks. From my limited experience, many local drivers refuse to slow or stop for pedestrians even at designated crosswalks, so watch out.
Stuart M — Google review
I was there few days ago wanting to know some tips for climbing in the region. Miss Romana was very nice to me and she recommended local areas, parking tips and routes. Her advice resulted in an amazing weekend I spent with my friends in the rocks! I wish there were more people like her.

Großer Winterberg is a sandstone peak in Saxon Switzerland, offering hiking trails and a wooden observation structure with breathtaking panoramic views. It is one of the tallest points in the region and is surrounded by natural landmarks such as the distinctive flat-top table mountain Lilienstein and the beautiful rocky ravine of Kamenice Gorge with the river Kamnitz flowing through it. Visitors can expect friendly reception, service, and advice about the surrounding area.
Very nice Glühwein and wonderful Möhrensuppe. Exceptional good service. They didn't accept credit cards and we didn't have any cash, but they suggested that we could pay with PayPal. Very flexible and easy solution!

(Translated by Google) I ran a long loop, from the Lichtenhain waterfall over the cowshed and then to the small and large Winterberg. The paths are partially blocked by fallen trees that you have to climb over. Sometimes you don't get any further and have to take a different route. The view once you've made the climb is great. Will come back next year to discover even more 👍🏻 (Original) Ich bin eine große Runde gelaufen, ab dem Lichtenhainer Wasserfall über den Kuhstall und dann zum kleinen und großen Winterberg.

(Translated by Google) Lifesaver ;-) In the late afternoon, after a hike from the Lichtenhain waterfall, we arrived up here hungry and thirsty. Got delicious soup and beer. Was here for the second time this year and am glad that this snack bar exists. Yes, they are not discount prices, but they are worth the money. Friendly hospitality and delicious food. I didn't use the observation tower. Modern dry toilets are available as toilets. Definitely come back here. (Translated by Google) There's a kiosk upstairs again, even if the restaurant/hotel is closed - a great surprise for us because we were prepared for "nüschde". the catering is with love and recommended. The hike from the cowshed via Kleiner Winterberg (and the detour to Affensteine) to Großer Winterberg is quite strenuous, but worthwhile. Be sure to take the Kipphorn view with you on the descent, two options to choose from: via Winterbergstrasse (attention! it is called street and is also a built road, but closed to public traffic - only deliveries for buildings), which runs a little flatter in winding serpentines, or via the many steps of the mountain climb steeply downhill (Original) es gibt wieder nen kiosk oben, auch wenn das restaurant/hotel geschlossen ist - für uns ne super überraschung, weil wir uns auf "nüschde" eingestellt hatten. das catering ist mit liebe und zu empfehlen. die wanderung vom kuhstall über kleinen winterberg ( und abstecher affensteine) zum großen winterberg ist angessen angestrengend, aber lohnend. beim abstieg unbedingt die kipphornaussicht mitnehmen, zwei varianten zur auswahl: via winterbergstraße (achtung! heißt zwar straße und ist auch eine gebaute straße, aber für öfftl. verkehr gesperrt - nur lieferungen für bauden), die in schlängelnden serpentinen etwas flacher verläuft, oder via den vielen stufen des bergsteigs steil bergab

Hohe Liebe is a peak lookout point dedicated to fallen mountaineers, offering a beautiful panorama and inviting visitors to linger. Accessible by foot with some steep and climbing-required sections, it's popular but may lack space for larger groups. The hike from Altendorf through the forests of Saxon Switzerland National Park is recommended for hikers with dogs, although watercourses should be considered.
Very nice place, 370 mtr. up - with Great views and a small building (denkmal) in memory of lost mountaineers.

So, be careful and have fun 👍 (Original) Der Aufstieg war zwar nicht so einfach, aber auch ich als ungeübter Kletterer habe es geschafft. Oben angekommen hat man einen tollen Blick. Nestled next to the enchanting Lichtenhain Waterfall, this charming inn boasts a cozy half-timbered structure that exudes warmth and character. Guests can indulge in hearty meals at the rustic restaurant or unwind in the inviting beer garden, where friendly staff serve up delicious dishes alongside refreshing local brews. Families will appreciate the play area for children, while outdoor seating offers picturesque views of both nostalgic streets and stunning natural landscapes.
Delicious dishes in big portions. Tasty beer. Nice and helpful staff, good service. Decent price/value ratio. Free wifi. Play garden for the children. If you sit outside, across the street, on the terrace you can enjoy the nostalgic street view and the beautiful natural environment. The only downside is the traffic can get really loud and smoky on busy weekend days. Unfortunately smoking is also allowed everywhere. I still recommend having a lunch or a dinner in this charming place.

Gorgeous waterfall in a fantastic area of Germany close to the border with Czech. Very popular with the locals not so much with foreigners. The waterfall is free to visitvand is worth seeing if you are in the vicinity. Parking is close by too. Anotjet option is to use the historical Tram from Bad Schandau.

The waterfall is a tourist trap. The inn on the side provides coffee of instant flavour for tourist prices. I was here purely for the hike towards the Kuhstall and the views. The tramway from Bad Schandau is nice too. If you get a guest card from accommodation in the area, it gives free access to the tramway as well.

The route was very beautiful, but the waterfall itself wasn’t very impressive, as it didn’t feel natural. However, the surrounding forests make for an interesting hiking experience.

Nice little waterfall but "spectacular" is overstating it. I've given three stars to balance other reviews: an attractive setting, though, and there's a nice cafe that deserves a visit (and your money!)

Schrammsteinaussicht offers a thrilling hiking experience with breathtaking views. The trek involves climbing ladders for an unparalleled panoramic view, making it an exciting adventure for those unafraid of heights. It's advisable to avoid wearing uncomfortable clothing like jeans and to carry plenty of water, especially in the summer heat. Parking options include Wanderparkplatz (free) and Ostrauer parkplatz (paid), with early starts recommended on weekends to avoid crowds.
Awesome moderate hike. Trail can be a little confusing but with google maps you can find your way to and back home. Parking can be tough depending on where you park. Overall, a great experience. Definitely hit this moderate hike. There are steep stairs and some scrambling. Requires some coordination. I hike it in running sneakers.

One of the most enjoyable treks with a breathtaking view of impressive rock formations. You can get to walk on top of the rock formations, it is a true adventure! You will need to climb ladders and bunch of stairs, so bring sneakers, some snacks and plenty of water.

Schrammsteine is a striking rock formation in Saxon Switzerland, famous for its jagged peaks and challenging hiking trails. The area offers spectacular views and exciting routes for experienced hikers and climbers. It’s a must-visit for those looking for adventure and breathtaking natural scenery. The trails can be steep and demanding. Along the way, hikers can enjoy panoramic vistas of the surrounding forests and the Elbe River valley. The unique rock formations and well-marked paths make Schrammsteine a favorite destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

Für mich eine leichte Tour, obwohl meine Kondition...I took the Malerweg/painterhike, scenic, only with a small part secured by ladders and stairs. They end in a trail with a beautiful view above the river Elbe and the boulders.
Brigitte B — Google review
Nice place for hiking. When you plan visit the place with car, there is 2 good parking places: Wanderparkplatz ( nearest and free) and Ostrauer parkplatz (paid place) On weekend is good idea start hiking earlier. Less crowd and you can find parking place for car. In National park is different trails, so you can choose your own trail. Highlight is the views. Some places could be tough, when you dont have walking experiences. But National park is awsome.

Great walk. The path becomes steep at the end and there are quite a few stairs and ladders to climb on the way to a nice view of the area, however the best part of this walk(for me at least) is the early parts of the hike where you are surrounded by the woods. It is very pretty and quite peaceful. All of the signs are in German however it is possible to find your way of you do not speak German.

(Translated by Google) Through the narrow gap between Grottenwart and Frienstein to the east side, and there on a narrow, exposed band, which was partly secured with metal handles, to the Idagrotte. The Idagrotte, also known as the “Frienstein Cave”, is a large fissure and layered cave that is now a popular hiking destination. Traces of previous use as a living space can be seen in the cave. At least a wooden shed must have once stood here, because the Frienstein has a long history: around 1410, a castle lookout was built on the summit by the Berken from the Duba. Where the climb once was (in a large niche on the west side, today's "Alter Weg" climbing route) there are still supports for wooden rungs and steps carved into the rock. On the summit area, traces of the castle keeper can be discovered, in the form of folds to anchor a wooden building. The Frienstein was therefore part of a network of castle towers, including those on the Winterstein, the New Wildenstein and the Old Wildenstein. In 1451 the entire Berken von der Duba rule, and with it the Frienstein, passed to the Wettins. However, robber barons soon set up shop here. In 1479, one of their accomplices confessed that "at Freynstein there is a hole [...] where you can punish the prisoners in a furrow". Oh right! The grotto! Unfortunately, it is not known who Ida was after whom the grotto is named. At the beginning of the 20th century, critical voices complained that the name had not caught on among locals. Maybe Ida was a pretty tourist? Ach so!

Located in the center of the square, Sendigbrunnen is a romantic architectural piece named after Rudolf Sendig, a renowned promoter of spa and public life in Bad Schandau. The fountain features motifs from Greek mythology and was restored to its former glory by dedicated individuals and an art foundry. Originally built in 1896 in historicist and Art Nouveau style, it survived wars but was dismantled afterward.
I like this place as it means a good hike would be made 😅

Kleiner Winterberg is a stunning area in Germany, particularly in the Saxon Switzerland region. It offers breathtaking views and picturesque landscapes that are considered some of the most beautiful in the country. The hiking trails may be challenging with fallen trees and rough terrain, but for experienced hikers unafraid of heights, it's definitely worth the visit. Although time constraints may have prevented some from exploring this gem, those who do venture there are rewarded with an unforgettable experience.
(Translated by Google) The approximately 550 steps were definitely worth it. The Caspar-David-Friedrich-Weg is a captivating hiking trail that offers an enriching blend of natural beauty and cultural history. Spanning nearly 16 kilometers, this diverse path takes you through meadows, gravel paths, hillside trails, and even some charming stairs. Along the way, you'll encounter informative panels detailing the life and works of the renowned painter Caspar David Friedrich.
(Translated by Google) I was out on the trail today in sunshine. I really enjoyed it. It's truly diverse: a forest path along the Elbe, meadows, and rock formations. Very well signposted. There are benches along the way for resting and picnicking, and there are restaurants in the villages, along with vending machines for drinks and snacks in case of emergency. You should be sure-footed! The elevation makes it a bit challenging. Otherwise, it's easily manageable even for casual hikers like me.

(Translated by Google) The circular trail was named Hiking Trail of the Year 2025 by a hiking magazine. Reason enough for us to do the hike today. Of the 15 km, 6 km initially lead through a forest on a narrow path along the Elbe. Depending on the vegetation, you can see more or less of the rock formations on the opposite bank. When we were there, some of the trail had been cleared, so we could see quite well. After 6 km and a short, steep climb over steps, the landscape opens up, and you walk across meadows and through villages with magnificent views until just before the end. The signage is very good, and the information panels provide a clear connection between Friedrich Friedrich and Saxon Switzerland. With a brisk pace, reading the panels, and short breaks for drinks, it took us four hours. We enjoyed the hike, but really only the second part.

In warm weather, be sure to bring plenty of drinks and sunscreen! There are also several places to stop for refreshments along the way. The terrain is all-encompassing: meadow paths, gravel paths, hillside trails, asphalt, and even stairs of all shapes and sizes. I learned a lot about the painter that I didn't know before. The sundial trail in Krippen is also really great. All in all, a truly beautiful hiking trail—but I have to deduct a very large star! The town of Krippen, or rather the region, should be aware that when you promote a hiking trail like this, suggesting it as Germany's most beautiful hiking trail, you also have to take into account that hikers won't always arrive by public transport. The parking situation in Krippen is pathetic, even deplorable! There isn't a sufficiently large hiking parking lot in this location, and in a tourist region, that's completely unacceptable. There would be enough space near the Elbe. I ended up parking in Reinhardtsdorf, and along the way I met many hikers who shared my fate. This urgently needs to be improved! Vom Gelände her ist alles dabei. (Translated by Google) We hiked in June. We don't recommend the route from Krippen, from station 1 to station 8, parallel to the Elbe. For most of it, it's no wider than a wildlife trail. It's very overgrown in June, and there's very little view of the rock formations on the other side of the Elbe. The picnic bench is the only highlight of the entire route, and in our opinion, it's not worth the effort. If you prefer something a little more "boring" and with a better view of the rocks, you should take the Elbe Cycle Path to Schöna. Edit: Something I forgot. From Schöna onward, it doesn't necessarily get any more beautiful. Restrooms are rare, and if you're unlucky, the few restaurants are closed, which was the case for us. You shouldn't walk along the main road through Reinhardtsdorf. There's a lot of traffic, and trucks sometimes drive over the sidewalk when an oncoming bus is coming. All in all, unfortunately, one of the worst hiking trails for us. Best stop in this place for short rest. Please note. This place is remote, surrounded by a national park, and next to international border. So probably this is the best place to eat around here. Come here to relax and enjoy the local Beer!! Pros: 1. The local beer is amazing 2. Cozy atmosphere, for the climate of the place. 3. Quick service. 4. One service person knew English, so it was easy to converse. Lows: 1. Food served is cold. 2. Lentil soup (linseneintopf) was sweet, and probably mixed with tomato ketchup. 3. Coffee served in as cool, even when served from the machine. 4. Onion cake might have tasted better when warm. We were served cold. But yet, the cold coffee and cold sweet linsen, spoiled the food-flavor for us.

Food is a bit overpriced considering the portion size. The coffee is just awful considering it's about 4€ for filter coffee, given they charge so much they should at least be able to afford some decent beans... But the area is very pretty, and perhaps they brew the best beer in Germany.

Delicious organic beer for €5 which is expensive for the area. The surrounding buildings are very quaint in a lovely town. Worth stopping on route to Czech republic. They sell huge slices of cakes that many people around is were enjoying.
Reveandrob L — Google review
I can only concur with the other comments. I have been here at least 4 times now and have always had a great experience. The food, sausages, Brotzeit and drinks set in the courtyard with a working water mill. Pure bliss, cheers team
Ian W — Google review
Beautiful venue! The bread is amazing, and so is the Linsen Eintopf (Lentils stew). But avoid the cakes, they are very dry and tasteless :( I tried with poppy seeds and with blueberries and it was a waste of money :(
Laurynas — Google review
Beautiful surroundings, and absolutely amazing beer. Tables are scattered all around the grounds, so you can eat next to the picturesque millhouse or with a view of the mountains. The menu is small but satisfying; I particularly liked the smoked trout.
Casey C — Google review
So many people are complaining about price... If you want cheap beer, go to any regular pub. You're paying for higher farming standards and local produce, while putting the money in the hands of smaller businesses. Organic stuff doesn't magically taste better. It's about trying to spend your money in a way that does less damage to the world. Having said that... It's still fairly cheap. Just not compared to regular mass produced beer. The venue is amazing, and really it's worth a few more euros to be in a nice spot. If you don't care about the venue, just buy supermarket beer and drink at home. Food quality is mixed, but generally better than other options in the area.

11m-wide arch in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains with the ruins of a 15th century castle on top.
Absolutely worth the visit. If you take a tram to waterfalls, don’t be fooled - the Lichtenhainer Wasserfall is not the main thing to see here. An easy hike about 45 minutes through the forest to enjoy the view from and of the Kuhstall, one of the main view points for the region. And definitely take a Himmelweg - stairs between two rocks, truly unique experience!
Jana K — Google review
the scenery is really beautiful and great for hiking. you can get there by bus 241 from the town, by easy route just go from Lichtenhainer waterfall. the mobile network there is very weak so if you go for the first time you should download a hiking app so you don't get lost.
Kai T — Google review
Interesting arch to visit and view. Good cafe to buy food and drink. A good place to stop at during your walk in this area
Paul A — Google review
One of the highlights of visiting the Kuhstall is the Himmelsleiter, a narrow, steep staircase carved into the rock that leads to the remnants of an old castle and offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Another intriguing feature is the Schneiderloch, a small cave that adds to the exploratory charm of the location. Here are some of the notable trails: 1. Lichtenhainer Waterfall to Kuhstall - Distance: 1.5 km (one way) - Duration: 30 minutes - Difficulty: Easy This is the most straightforward and family-friendly trail, starting at the Lichtenhainer Waterfall. The path is well-marked and mostly flat, making it suitable for all ages. 2. Beuthenfall to Kuhstall - Distance: 1.2 km (one way) - Duration: 25 minutes - Difficulty: Easy Another accessible route, this trail begins at the Beuthenfall and offers a pleasant walk through the forest. It is slightly shorter than the Lichtenhainer route and equally scenic. 3. Kuhstall Circular Route - Distance: 4 km - Duration: 2 hours - Difficulty: Moderate This circular route begins and ends at the Kuhstall, taking you through the surrounding forest and passing by other rock formations and viewpoints. It’s a great way to explore the area more thoroughly without retracing steps.
Y. T — Google review
Its amazing The whole way and the top viewpoint is unbelievable.
Mahboob O — Google review
Nice and easy hikes from the parking lot. The holes in the rock formation and the tiny stairs offer a cool experience you won't get anywhere else.
Marc-André — Google review
Certainly worth the hike! It's beautiful with lots of places to explore, little side paths that lead to new views and breathtaking scenery. I recommend going on a less warm day, seeing as all the water creates a LOT of humidity.
LucidStateOfMind — Google review
Such a beautiful place and easy to get to. Around 1h return walk from the car park you reach the Felsentor Kuhstall. Great view but don't stop here! Walk inside the Kuhstall to the left towards the Himmelsleiter and follow that track (one way only). It's a great small stairs leading to heaven. When you get around the corner and walk down follow to Schneider Loch! Oh don't miss that. There is a small track left and one that goes straight ahead. Walk both but the stunning hidden treasure is on the track straight ahead. Walk to the end and here on the right is a very small entrance to a small cave. Go in and climb up the steps! Wow! What a view. Small cave with window is only big enough for maybe 4 or 5 people, way in and out 1 person at a time.

Utter cruelty. Such a beautiful wild animal should have much more space and variety if it is to be held in a cage of any sort at all. This is depressing and dark and completely without appeal, and the animal seemed especially apathetic when we visited, mild weather in the late summer. A facility such as this should be dissolved or massively expanded; this tiny space is an outdated and unfair way to treat such a magnificent creature.
Michael G — Google review
The cage is way too small, it's just sad too see an animal like this.

For a period of two decades, individuals have taken pleasure in strolling along the picturesque trail known as Emmabank located in Ostrau, East Germany. Positioned by the enchanting river Elbe and offering an awe-inspiring vista of Bad Schandau, this locale boasts exceptional beauty. The accessibility to this spot through ostrau is reliable and highly recommended for its remarkable scenery. Visitors can revel in the impressive panorama of the Elbe river alongside the majestic surrounding mountains.
So beautiful here and the view is amazing - access is very stable via ostrau and worth the view
Nico V — Google review
You can use the Deutschland Ticket for all rail, water, and road transport. It was very beautiful, and access to all the sights was excellent; only the buses to our hotel came less frequently due to road construction.

Absolutelly charming view into the Elbe river valley. I would say best one close surroundings of Bad Schandau. Eventhough very little people there (sunny Friday afternoon in September). Nice footpath through a light deciduous forest leads here.

National park tramline operating since 1898, linking hiking trails, restaurants & waterfalls.
Interesting and long, but a little bit slow, historic tram line along the road, river and the national park, so you can admire the views from windows. Free if you have Deutschlandticket or 5 Euro fee. Also you can do some hiking and return to the city by tram
Dmitry A — Google review
Nice journey into the forest by tram! The tram starts from the car park of the small town "Bad Schandau". The town itself is quite calm and relaxing and the tram route is also quite nice offering great views of the rocks and the forest alongside the river. I would not say it's extremely scenic and is a must to do activity here, but with kids it's fine. If you love to trek, you can ignore this. Remember that they only accept cash and the ticket will be sold at a reduced price if you have a day ticket for all Dresden zones.
Chitrang A — Google review
Funny and nice green road, small waterfall but nice place to have some fun and enjoy nature
Mahdi S — Google review
Funny experience riding with this old little tram. Be aware that it will be full to the brim most of the time, so I recommend using it early in the morning to avoid big crowds.
Niek J — Google review
This tram line is advertised as a touristic place of interest which is simply a lie. This is a totally standard tram line, goes next to a regular road, it does have a forest on both sides but sorry, nothing special about it. If you read about it being a tram in the mountains or something like that, just forget about it. A REGULAR tram, that's what it is. Wanna spend around 10 euro for it, hi bu car is better
Faure E — Google review
The tram reached very nice hiking areas. We went to Schrammstein. A short hike og 30 minutes and the most amazing view. The tram is a bit expensive, though..

The Muzeum Bad Schandau is a highly captivating attraction with amiable personnel and affordable prices. It offers an engaging experience, showcasing the vibrant spirit of Carnival celebrations. This museum in Germany comes highly recommended for its rich collection and enticing displays, making it a must-visit destination for those interested in cultural history.

(Translated by Google) Small museum with three sections: climbing in Saxon Switzerland, the history of the city of Bad Schandau and the work of Erich Wustmann, a Bad Schandau ethnologist. Unfortunately, when I visited, the area with the city's history was being renovated due to a burst water pipe, so there were only a few exhibits on display. Unfortunately, the climbing section was not entirely understandable for non-climbers because technical terms were used on the text boards but were not explained. But Erich Wustmann's collection was even more impressive, as it not only brings his work closer, but also the peoples he researched.

(Translated by Google) Centrally located small but extensive museum. Designed with a lot of commitment. When we were there it was divided into three areas. On the ground floor there is a photo exhibition of climbers. Impressive. On the first floor the exhibition on the city's history. I would like more information on some topics. In particular the development of the place over the centuries with maps and the like but also very interesting about the important events and people. The exhibition is also designed to be rather uncritical. Certain topics are largely ignored. The exhibition on Erich Wustmann is also worth seeing. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to see all of the footage. Here would be more modern technology, the selection makes a great thing possible. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

(Translated by Google) The exhibition is quite detailed, but the first part is a bit tiring because it is very text-heavy. But the exhibition on Erich Wustmann is still worth it because it is extremely interesting and well designed. This part of the exhibition is very varied with texts, but also a small film and audio samples of indigenous singing. The lighting also makes this part of the exhibition very exciting. The front parts of the exhibition can't quite keep up with that.

Hrad Jenčov, a picturesque castle ruin situated amidst a forested landscape, can be reached via a brief stroll of approximately 750 meters from the road, where there is also ample parking available. The enchanting castle, dating back to the 14th century, stands proudly atop a hill and offers splendid vistas of its surroundings. Access to this historical gem is hassle-free with family-friendly pathways ensuring ease for all visitors.
Freely accessible ruins of a very small castle (the smallest royal castle in Bohemia, I've read somewhere). Nice short walk from a parking for the castle visitors as indicated on Google Maps (0.5 plus 0.7km according to touristic maps).
