Gallipoli Peninsula Historical National Park is a significant site that holds the history of the Gallipoli campaign during World War I. This location is renowned for its unconventional warfare and symbolizes valiant efforts and mutual respect between nations. Visiting this park offers an opportunity to delve into the historical impact of the war and pay homage to the bravery and patriotism displayed by those involved.
Incredibly moving and emotional place for Aussies to visit. I shed a few tears as the sad loss of life of all the young men that died here. Such a respectful place and tribute to our anzacs, the Turks and French and British and even Indians who gave their life in these battles. A must see for Aussies

Just FYI! These pictures are from the War Museum, which is 4 MINS driving from this specific location, don’t get confused! Not the best indicated, a bit confusing and less information than expected. If you drive to this specific location/building, you will not be able to enter. To go to the War Museum drive further in that road and then turn to the right when you see it indicated.

Beautiful and moving site which gives insight into the history surrounding the founding of the Turkish Republic. One of the most impactful locations on the Gallipoli peninsula.

The size of this park in terms of territory and how the people of Turkey have kept history alive is truly impressive. Moreover, the cleanliness and maintenance of all monuments deserves admiration. Can really meet global criteria. It’s definitely worth the visit but give yourself at least two or three days if you want to see everything. Also beware of turtles! 🐢☺️

Great time spent here. Moment of reflection for the legendaries, braveries and patriotism of a people led by the strong faith in their heart and readiness to sacrifice their lives and souls for the future of only their people but all the marginalised and underprivileged people of the world. This peninsula witnessed a war where all the odds were against the Turks but their faith and bravery won them a legend unequalled anywhere in the history of the world.

It is a great location in the history of WW1 and Turkish history as well. It can be done on a single day from Istanbul. The presence of a good guide I think is essential, since it is difficult to be appraised of the entire history of events or their significance.

I lived in Australia and New Zealand for a few years and Gallipoli is almost a founding myth in those respective countries. It was fascinating to come here and see the place and battle(s) I heard so much about. What was really interesting was also to see it from Ottoman/Turkish perspective. What's amazing about the whole complex is how the winning side the Turks have almost dedicated it to losing side renaming the landing area to Anzac cove etc. I can't think of anywhere else where such a thing has happened. I did a tour which you almost have to do. It's a big site so walking and local buses are not a realistic prospect. It was really hot so bring water and sunscreen but most of all if you have heard of Gallipoli and have any interest in it absolutely worth a visit.
Robert C — Google review
The trip of my life! I wanted to visit the gallipoli peninsula all my life. Now that I got here and I attended a tour program I get to learn all that I wanted to learn first handedly. The weather is good but could be better. So maybe later in May or even June is better timing for the Gallipoli visit. The tour costs only ₺70 per person lunch included.

Anzac Bay Beach is a poignant cove steeped in history, marking the landing site of ANZAC forces during World War I's Gallipoli campaign. The area is adorned with beautifully maintained memorials that pay tribute to the brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice. Visitors can appreciate the stunning views while safely parking along designated spots to reflect on this significant location.
Beautiful but sad how many lives were lost Young men Hoaxed and made the ultimate sacrifice Many grave markers aged 19 I'm sure many lies about their age thou The Turkish government has maintained these cemeteries impeccably 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Breathtaking. It was quiet, peaceful and offered an opportunity to see what all of those young men from all sides went through. Unbelievable bravery from all soldiers who gave their lives for their country.

It was a very rewarding day, spent on the Gallipoli Peninsula. We started in a unique way, on board a boat and approaching “Ari Burnu” (ie ANZAC Cove) from the sea - much as the ‘diggers’ did some 100 years ago. What a perspective.
Norm P — Google review
Beautiful experience and highly recommend to anyone visiting turkey. The Turkish government has done a wonderful job with the memorials for the ANZAC soldiers. A tour guide will take you around the land and show you all the important spots. Anzac cove was breathtaking and it was very moving.

Beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. I think the amount of care Turkey puts into maintaining this historic site is wonderful. Ataturk should be proud ❤️

Would definitely recommend coming to see this place. We were lucky and we were the only ones here. So much history. Every single soldier who died has been remembered by having their name engraved on the wall.
Tara P — Google review
The main Commonwealth battle memorial for the whole Gallipoli campaign, also commemorating the 20,956 Commonwealth servicemen with no known grave who died in the campaign in 1915–1916, during the First World War. There are also panels for those who died or were buried at sea in Gallipoli waters. Well maintained with ample parking. Memorial is used as the site for the British Commemorative Service around ANZAC Day.
Edward P — Google review
I'll use this one location to review the whole of the southern part of the peninsular. Directions and signage is clear, roads are modern and wide, and information boards in English and Turkish (with some in French and German too) are interspersed along the route. The war graves are immaculate and well worth walking around. Places to park exist at the big monuments, but not too many on the roads. There are shops in villages on the route where you can buy snacks and water/drinks, but it is worth taking some with you. Very little shade so if it's sunny take an umbrella.

We stopped at “Cape Helles” on the remote tip of the Gallipoli Peninsula to visit the British Commonwealth’s “Helles Memorial”. All of the Aus. & NZ units which fought between April to Dec 1915 are honoured here. Very moving.

This memorial was unveiled in 1924 for the soliders who do not have a known grave by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. It is almost 30 meters and very glorious. The most crowded place of Gallipoli War Zone is the main Martials' Memorial and here is pretty quite. There is a huge parking lot in front of it. It is very close to Fort Ertuğrul as well and you can visit them both at the same time. This is one of the important places that you should not miss to see if your visiting Gallipoli.

(Translated by Google) Let's try to get to know the Piri Reis Monument, which is located between Piri Reis Kordon Boyu Street and Korean Heroes Street in Camikebir District of Gallipoli District of Çanakkale Province, and is known for its proximity to well-known places such as the Gallipoli War Museum and Antique Tractor Museum... "Pîrî Reis was born in 1465 or 1470 in Gallipoli, and died in 1554 in Cairo... Turkish sailor and cartographer. His real name is Muhyiddin Pîrî Bey. He also has works such as Hadikat'ül Bahriye, Bilad-ül Aminat and Eşkalname." There is an explanation on Google... I think that it is a statue that goes unnoticed even though hundreds of people pass by it every day, and that we show the respect we show to our past, history and elders by ignoring the Piri Reis Monument... (Translated by Google) I visited the Piri Reis Monument. He was renowned among Turkish sailors and authored the famous Kitab-ı Bahriye (Book of the Sea). Is this enough respect for Piri Reis, who drew the world map on a nearly flawless piece of gazelle hide? The monument is beautiful, but the inscriptions have been erased. The mosaic of the world map painted on the ground has been damaged. I hope the authorities will not ignore this situation and take action... Stay tuned for more ;) (Original) Piri Reis Anıtı'nı ziyaret ettim. Türk denizcileri arasında nam salmış. Meşhur Kitab-ı Bahriye'yi yazmış. Yetkili birimlerin bu duruma kayıtsız kalmayıp el atması dileğiyle... Daha fazlası için takipte kalın ;)

In this map, he covered the Atlantic Ocean, the Iberian Peninsula, the west of Africa and the east coast of the new world, America. He drew the map. It is very sad that the writings on the monument of such an important person are illegible and faded. Let's protect our values. Böyle önemli bir insanın anıtının üzerindeki yazıların okunmaz silik olması çok üzücü. Değerlerimize sahip çıkalım.

(Translated by Google) Although there is no definitive information about the birth date of Piri Reis, whose real name was Ahmed Muhiddin Piri, he was born between 1465 and 1470 in Gallipoli, known as a Turkish naval base. He was the son of Karamanlı Hacı Ali Mehmed and the nephew of the renowned Ottoman navigator and Mediterranean Admiral Kemal Reis. Muhiddin Piri lived in Gallipoli until the age of eleven. Educated by his family until the age of eleven, Muhiddin Piri learned to read and write, and embarked on his first maritime career aboard the ships of his uncle, Kemal Reis. Between 1483 and 1493, he and his uncle participated in raids in the Mediterranean, including those on the coasts of Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, and France. In 1486, when Muslims suffering oppression in Granada, the last city under Muslim rule in Andalusia, sought help from the Ottoman Empire, Kemal Reis and his nephew, Muhiddin Piri, traveled to Spain and carried the Muslims to North Africa. Bayzade II, preparing for a campaign to capture Venice, called on sailors engaged in piracy in the Mediterranean to join his fleet. Consequently, he served as an Ottoman ship commander in the Ottoman Navy's struggle for maritime control against the Venetian Navy between 1499 and 1502, becoming the first warship captain. Piri Reis's accounts of the places he saw and the events he experienced during his Mediterranean voyages formed the opening chapter of his book, Kitab-ı Bahriye (Book of the Sea), which would become the first guidebook on world navigation. Following his uncle's death in 1511, Piri Reis refrained from sailing on the high seas for a period. He settled in Gallipoli, where he first drew the first world map, dated 1513. Piri Reis, a great navigator as well as a cartographer, created geographical maps and historical features of the places he visited. When Egypt became part of the Ottoman Empire in 1517, Piri Reis had the opportunity to meet Yavuz Sultan Selim personally, who sailed with a fleet to Alexandria. He presented the sultan with a world map he had previously prepared. After the Egyptian campaign, Piri Reis returned to Gallipoli, where he continued his scientific work. The reign of Suleiman the Magnificent was a period of great conquests in Ottoman history. Piri Reis joined the Ottoman Navy during the Rhodes campaign of 1523. In 1954, he served as a pilot during the Egyptian campaign, earning the admiration and support of Grand Vizier Pargalı Damat İbrahim Pasha. When Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha became Kaptan-ı Admiral in 1533, Piri Reis received the title of Admiral of the Sea. Following the death of Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha in 1546, Piri Reis became Captain of Egypt. He served for many years in the Arabian Sea, the Red Sea, and the Persian Gulf. In 1552, he captured Muscat, a key Portuguese base, and then Qishm Island, laying siege to the Hormuz Fortress. Hearing that the Portuguese intended to seal off the Persian Gulf, he headed north. He seized control of the Qatar Peninsula and the island of Bahrain, and then crossed into Egypt. The final stop of his second Egyptian campaign in 1552 was Basra. Piri Reis left the fleet in Basra to meet the needs of his ships, carry out repairs and maintenance, and allow the soldiers to rest. He then sailed to Egypt with ships laden with loot. Because leaving the fleet in Egypt was considered a sin, he was imprisoned in Egypt. Due to the actions of the Governor of Basra, Kubat Pasha, and the Governor of Egypt, Mehmet Pasha, A complaint was filed against him with Suleiman the Magnificent, and he was ultimately executed in 1554, at the age of over 80, after being accused of negligence in his service. Piri Reis was among the most prominent maritime scientists of his time. In addition to his native language, he is understood to have spoken Greek, Italian, Spanish, and even Portuguese. He himself wrote that he had consulted works in these languages when preparing his world map. Karamanlı Hacı Ali Mehmed’in oğlu ve ünlü Osmanlı denizcisi Akdeniz Amirali Kemal Reis’in yeğenidir.

The Antika Traktör Müzesi is an extraordinary museum that is sure to captivate visitors, regardless of their interest in vehicles or farming machinery. Its impressive collection of tractors, ranging from the late 1800s to 1962, showcases a remarkable array of colors and exceptional engineering. The museum boasts three Porsche tractors and a one-of-a-kind Elsingen model.
An amazing museum/collection of tractors spanning over 100 years. All the tractors (circa 100) are in showroom condition, just like the day they left the factory (perhaps even better!!). The dedication and work invested in each vehicle is remarkable. It is a unique experience and a credit to the owner/curator. You must visit!!

During my recent holiday, I had the pleasure of dining at Gelibolu Balık Restaurant in Gelibolu, Turkey, and it was an unforgettable experience. This charming eatery specializes in seafood, allowing guests to select their fish before it's expertly grilled or fried. The freshness of the seafood was remarkable; I savored delicious calamari and local trout that were simply divine. The menu also caters to non-seafood lovers with options like grilled chicken and meatballs.
Excellent service, food and views! Brava

Gelibolu Balik Restaurant inGelibolu, Turkey. Specialises in sea food. You select your fish and then they take it into the kitchen to fry or grill it. Served with salad and chips. For those who do not care for fish, they have grilled chicken or meatballs with gravy.

The sea bass was fine. The octopus (see picture) a rip off. Very little fish covered with a lot of breading for 200 TL. And the waiter managed to knock over my beer glass without making a decent apology or replacing the content of the spilled beer. Moreover no little add-ons (tiny salad or yoghurt) was offered with the fish. Just stale cheap bread.

Flashback to one of the best restaurants we went during our holiday last year . We went to this restaurant with our two kids for lunch. The seafood was the freshest we had ever tasted. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. The salads, the starters were wonderful. For main we had seafood. Those calamaris were fresh , tasty , delicious. We also had fish. I can’t remember the type but we were told they were local. It was to die for. I left the best to last , THE VIEW! The restaurant terrace is literally situated over the sea. Incredible sea view, fresh air, best seafood, excellent service ! What else could you ask for ? I was looking at the photos from that day this evening and I thought they really deserve this review. If you are traveling around Gelibolu ( Gallipoli) , stop at this great restaurant and taste the best seafood. Hoping to get back there one day. Definitely recommend.

We ate the trout fish. It is the best seafood dishes I have in Turkey. The restaurant is just beside the ferry terminal. You will have the best view to see the ferry from the restaurant.
