Specialty Museums
Cite du Chocolat Valrhona is a modern museum, store, and cafe located in Tain L'Hermitage. It is dedicated to showcasing the world of chocolate through tastings and tours. The venue offers a variety of confections for visitors to sample, including unique dishes like chocolate salad dressing. Additionally, the museum provides insight into Valrhona's rich history of chocolate-making since 1922.
It was a famous chocolate 🍫 in France 🇫🇷 for a long time. This museum is kind of telling you how they make chocolate 🍫 from simple to factory like nowadays. It was a fancy chocolate, and you will have more information about how they improved people life around the world( South America, Africa...) with the cacao tree 🌳 to make a difference chocolate with different flavors and teases. It was nice when they gave me some chocolate without milk cause I got lactose. With your ticket 🎟 you can scan and get some free chocolate inside the museum. Upstairs, they have the place for kids to place, and the parents can drink some coffee to take a break. Next door, they have a bouquet chocolate store. So you can visit and choose some chocolate like gift 🎁 for your people then. Good luck, and have a nice experience there! Highly recommended if you visit Valence 👌

Excellent and educational time spent at this Chocolate Museum. We were signed up for a chocolate and wine tasting which took place in a classroom with both a wine and chocolate expert. Learned so much about the different kinds and qualities of the chocolate they produce. Each piece was paired with a complementary wine. A GREAT experience. The museum itself is easy to walk through and understand - highly recommend this experience for chocolate lovers (my bride) and not-so-much chocolate lovers like me.

I had the most wonderful experience at La Cité du Chocolat Valrhona. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the history and craftsmanship that Valrhona is known for worldwide. The exhibits are interactive, educational, and full of surprises — perfect whether you’re a chocolate lover or just curious about the journey from cacao bean to finished creation. The highlight for me was the tasting experience. Pairing Valrhona’s incredible chocolates with wines from Cave de Tain was unforgettable — a perfect balance that truly reflects the richness of the Rhône Valley. This is more than a visit; it’s a celebration of heritage, flavor, and passion. Absolutely worth the stop if you’re in the region.

Very nice museum experience. It is a great and interactive way to learn about the manufacturing, the origin, the different kinds and of course the tasting. Do not eat chocolate or dessert before visiting, they will feed you so many samples during the visit! :D
Kaya A — Google review
Visited the shop after reading about the chocolate and seeing some of the reviews. The chocolate is lovely and the chocolate shop is well laid out. Samples are available to help you choose although they are so tasty that they may make your choice even harder. We selected a cross range of the individual chocolates from behind the counter after sampling some on the way in. The young lady who assisted us from behind the counter was so friendly and knowledgeable. She made suggestions and allowed us plenty of time to choose. Fabulous experience. Hubby waited outside with our dog , having noticed this the lady at the shop reception counter (providing some samples) went out to give him a sample. The chocolate is Devine the shop was lovely and the staff are even better.

Pretty cool chocolate museum. It's modern and high tech. There's interactive videos and emersive displays. You also get chocolate samples so you can learn what real quality chocolate tastes like. My only complaint is that now other chocolates will always be waxy inferior chocolate compared to Valrhona chocolate.
Scott C — Google review
Tip: Bring a bag! Really fun and educational chocolate ‘factory’ with lots of chocolates as free giveaway. A bit smaller than other chocolate factory. But all of the animations and techs were working well. Can get a bit busy as the screens were interactive whilst sampling chocolates. Kids get a special ‘treasure’ hunt quest and free gift at the end! There’s also a little quiet playroom at the end of the visit just before the cafe - for those who wish to have a little quiet time.
Noelle N — Google review
If you enjoy a good piece of chocolate, the museum is definitely worth a visit! The place is rather small, but there is definitely a lot to read and discover, also for children! Make sure to be ready for some tastings and don't miss out on the staff's presentations! It was very enjoyable :)

Quality wines but each time we had the right at the end of the bottle to be a glass less full than some beforehand and above all a mixture of different bottles to fill the glass. A second service is offered each time, but just to finish the bottles and therefore just for people close to the bar. Tin cellars have accustomed us to much better things. Hoping that this will allow the excursion to evolve (Original) Apéro sur l'eau "vin et fromage", déçu du rapport qualité prix. We were told our trip was cancelled due to the weather which they knew was going to be bad the day before. It was due to be heavy rain the next morning. However, despite taking our money very quickly from our account they failed to confirm this booking until a couple of hours before which was very late, messing up the one of the two days we had in Tournon. However when the cancellation came through it was because of lack of customers for the trip. We have had a refund confirmation but has not gone back into our account as quickly as it left! Very flakey set up which cannot honour bookings.

In addition to a sublime landscape, the commentary offered by Franck the driver is very interesting and does not lack rhythm. This experience is a success and the driver is largely responsible for it, with his kindness and professionalism, we had the pleasure of talking with him after our little excursion. We will all come back with great pleasure to try the version with tasting on occasion. In the meantime, we are leaving with a very good memory, and a few bottles of wine in our luggage! But be careful if you have no sense of humor, are a first-class complainer, are pregnant and therefore do not drink wine, you may not find pleasure in this activity.... As in all the others! 😅. Thank you in any case and see you soon Franck! We had a wonderful tour and tasting for 2 with Marie as a guide, fully in English. She was amazing at giving us the full tour in a very adaptative conversation style with no script, and exchanged and learned on both sides! She took all the time we needed to explain and answer questions. The intimate setting was lovely and felt there was no time restriction or pace to follow. The tasting of 5 wines at the end of the tour was outstanding and great value for money. Thank you Marie for such a great time. We do lots of tastings and winery tours around the world and this will remain as one of the most memorable by a mile.

Today my partner and I had a tour and tasting with Anaïs, and after a number of tastings/tours around France over the last week I can safely say today's was the best of all. Anaïs was super relaxed, eager to answer all questions, spoke perfect English, and generously gave us many recommendations for other wineries and bistros afterwards. The varied selection of wines gave a great overview of the North Rhone region, and the Delas facility itself was beautiful. Also very responsive to email. Highly recommend Maison Delas for a tour and tasting!

Me and my son had a personal wine tour and tasting at Cave de Tain, presented by Roger. It was superb. Started in the vineyards, then to the wine making cellar and then to the maturation cellar. It was very impressive and the enthusiasm and knowledge of Roger was great. We ended with an excellent wine tasting and explanation of the different wines by Roger. It was a 5 star experience and the wines were excellent with a great variety on offer.

My tour taken with english speaking Lisa was very professional & interesting. 2 hours walking in the production & ageing areas was very informative. The tour finished off with tastings of 5 wines & I enjoyed Lisa’s encouragement & guidance to detect the aromas with each wine. The cost is very affordable @ €16, I highly recommend this experience.

We did the amazing walk through the vineyard's with beautiful views of the river and finished by tasting some wine at Cave de Tain. We tried 6 different wines. The lady who did the tasting for us was lovely, she spoke fluent English and educated us on the different rocks that the vines grow in and the tastes of different wine. The bottles range in price from €5 upward. We found a lovely bottle of white that we bought for €13 after we had done the tasting. Would 100% recommend coming here. They also offer a tour of the cellar and the process in English on Wednesdays which we didn't do. But highly recommend the self guided walk through the vineyard's up to the church and down.

Disappointed with the service here. We arrived to taste and purchase a few wines from the region. We tried to converse in our basic French and had some initial success. However we were only served 2 tastings in 30 minutes and felt generally ignored throughout our visit.

This charming spot offers an enticing variety of chocolate delights, from rich truffles to exquisite bars. Visitors can savor a unique culinary experience with dishes that subtly incorporate chocolate flavors, enhancing the overall taste without overpowering it.
It's an amazing experience! We had two differents dishes and both were delicious! For dessert we chose the foundant au chocolat was great!

Loved eating lunch here. There's a small selection of food, but it's all good. This time I had the chicken and rice. There's a slight chocolate flavor to the sauce, but it's so subtle that it improves the taste and doesn't take from the flavor of the chicken.
Scott C — Google review
Good quality food, although the chocolate flavours in the savory dishes, like they announce on the website, are not really visible on the menu or in the flavor profile. The hot chocolate is nothing special, you're probably better off with a dessert
Marie K — Google review
3 stars is as high as I'll go for this, canteen style restaurant above the Valrhona cite du Chocolat. Each dish has notes of chocolate. The duck cocotte was too bitter to be truly enjoyable, whilst the 42 percent chocolate in the beef hachis cocotte was far too sweet. Simple food that served a purpose.

(Translated by Google) A small restaurant we tried before visiting the Valrhona Museum. The meal was good, and the addition of chocolate to the various dishes is a subtle and original touch. The place is small, so reservations are definitely recommended. The atmosphere was quite noisy, with little space between tables—a small drawback. It was also a bit cold because of the air conditioning. The next day, we ordered a salad and a sandwich to go due to limited space (we hadn't made a reservation). The salad was very good, but the sandwich, at €8.50, didn't live up to our expectations.

Food was very nice, service was very good and they spoke english which was nice. The atmosphere wasn't great, not very cosy and they had some weird music on. However, at the end we were asked to leave a review for a dessert, we were asked to be honest, so we were. After leaving a 4 star review we were asked if we could please up it to 5 stars, this is a bit weird, so I removed a star...

Cannot recommend enough a visit. Plan in advance and you will be extremely happy. You can just go in and get a taste of some wine, but if you plan you can have a tasting that you plan out in a private setting with an extremely knowledgeable staff member who will take you on your journey. We planned this out weeks in advance and were very happy with the wines and the vintages offered for our tasting. Some were much older than expected. Furthermore, they had very old vintages available for purchase, packaged them up, gave us a VAT free certificate. This place is Amazing. We could have done a tour of the grounds as well, but it was very hot on the day we visited and we passed. Beyond our planned tasting, they offered additional wines at the counter while we made out purchase. If you love wine, or are just a beginner, this is a must visit.

What an experience! The wine tasting, the walk to the fields, the wine selection, everything was just perfect. And what made it perfect was the staff. Just incredible to see such young enthusiastic people being so knowledgeable, yet so approachable and respective of what they do. Definitely recommend visiting!
Life C — Google review
A bit disappointed by our experience here. Visiting a globally well-known wine production establishment, I would expect a more knowledgeable introduction of the wines, instead of just pouring and tasting with very basic information that one can easily read from any websites about wines. The young man left the bottles we wished to buy randomly and went ahead to take another group of guests, and we were left there wondering what was going on. Nevertheless, the wines are undoubtedly of very good quality, and the prices offered there were incredible. Would recommend for those who already know about their products and want to just do a quick tasting and purchase.
Salim F — Google review
Chapoutier might seem like a big name in the Rhône Valley, but his commitment to quality and his ability to craft beautiful wines are second to none. His cave offers his vast array of wines from all over Europe and Australia as well, delivering every time. There’s something for every palate and in every price range here. If you can, go with time and even better if you book a proper tasting than just a quick taste a walk-in, to get a proper feel to the wineries’ philosophy and taste some of their higher-priced wines. Recommend 100%.
Stefan S — Google review
Very friendly ambassador gave us explanations and tour patiently. It’s lovely and very interesting to witness how the wines are made from the very beginning and the theory and ideologies behind. Agriculture is something we really should appreciate more while most urbanised people haven’t yet.
Frankie L — Google review
Fantastic tasting. This is exactly how a large corporate winery should do a tasting. Comparatively, it was pricey ($100pp) but it was a great experience. We walked Les Greffieux with one of the sommeliers who oversees the wine shop and does tastings for corporate clients, so he was very knowledgeable. The wines we were given were exceptional. They even included L'Ermite. The tasting itself was conducted in a private room located in the offices. The tasting came with a major discount on bottles in the shop, which were already at least 30% less than in the US. My only recommendation for improvement would be to charafe L'Ermite beforehand, since they served a recent vintage so it was not ready to drink yet. It's such a special wine that it would've been better if it was more drinkable.

Georges Lelektsoglou has been running his shop for over 30 years. While Rhone wines have evolved much over the years, he has been there witnessing, resisting and influencing the change. Speaking to him you speak to the indisputable wine guru, and learn from the local "wise man". I spent the whole day in his shop, tasted no less than 10 Amazing wines - one from Clape as he delivered his supply to Georges' shop. I was in particular blown away by Lelektsoglou's own wines - the White from Hermitage, the Red from Cote Rotie (brought two back to London with me)! We had fish and chips ( or SHIPS as it said on the menu!😂) Fish and batter had a peculiar taste and chips were cold, greasy with a strange texture to the potato. Service not fab, the young waitress ignored us lots of times...she took the order of the people on the next table who came in after us before ours on two occasions and walked past us loads of times when we signalled we wanted her. Very friendly and positive restaurant team and excellent food & wine! Dish with scallops was outstanding, definitely a must-try when visiting. Thank you!

Alexandre, the new chef here, is really working some magic. Local organic produce, beautifully cooked. The ceps were outstanding, and a pleasure to eat seasonally. Close behind was a delicious dish of girolles, with a creamy chicken broth sauce. Perfectly cooked wild sea bass, very simple, showing off the fish. A seriously good meal, let’s hope this keeps to these very high standards. (No musak 😀)

We had the dry aged ribeye with hand cut fries. The taste was great! We had both red & white wine, Cornas & Hermitage Blanc respectively. No complaints about it.

Massively disappointing. Chapoutier make and sell some excellent Rhone wines. Which go very well with good steak. We booked this place specifically because it advertises dry aged steak. We arrived to be told that Chapoutier had taken the decision to stop serving dry aged steak some months before (yet it still features up front on their website). We decided to give it a go nonetheless, but quickly regretted our decision. It's a shame that little on the (now limited) menu and nothing of what we were actually served could do justice to the fabulous wines featuring on the list. The serving staff did their best, but I'm afraid this has moved from being a well-reviewed steak eatery to at best a really average hotel restaurant. Most of what we had was overcooked. The lamb I ordered was well done and dry. My colleague ordered a starter which should have involved a very soft-boiled egg - but that was hard boiled. If a commercial kitchen can fail on the basics of boiling an egg, well...

Staying in the Hotel and tried to book a table. We're told that myself and son(aged9) can not it in the restaurant, because it's fully booked. Correct me if I am wrong, but surely Hotel customers should be able to eat in the restaurant. Poor service...

This is the restaurant of the adjacent Fac & Spera hotel. Stayed at the hotel for two nights so decided to try out the restaurant with a couple of friends to have a nice fine dine/wine experience. Unfortunately we were greatly disappointed. 1) Out of the 9 wines that we selected only two were available, we kept having to re-pick the wine because they couldn't find the bottles we selected. What is the point of having a large wine list if none are available? 2) We picked one of the most expensive items on the menu, a carre' de boeuf. The steak was good, but the whole presentation and serving of it was disappointing. For a 240euro steak (for three) I would have expected top service and quality. This dish was grossly over-priced. 3) We ordered a cheese platter and when served the waiter had no idea what the name of the cheeses were. We asked to go check, and when she came back she still couldn't name them. 4) The service was just very disappointing. Staff was clearly unexperienced, they didn't know when it was the right time to clear the table, they didn't know how to handle wine, they didn't know how to serve well. All of this with a fairly empty restaurant. All in all a greatly disappointing experience. If the restaurant is trying to create a "Fine dining experience" then the service should match that as well. I travelled from London to Tain-l'Hermitage to have a good gastronomic experience, but food and wine is better priced in London than this restaurant.

Had degustation porcini menu, it was a surprise! First course was salmon with porcini, second was seared Oyster with porcini, lovely dishes so far. Third was tuna belly, smoked and torched perfectly but I was missing the mushroom. Overall, food was again surprisingly good, presentation of dishes could improve and portion of the main course was huge! It is a good problem. Awaiting dessert now... Thank u chef, who shared so much about every dish, I can definitely feel your heart and soul in the dishes u create.

A beautiful wine bar and tasting opportunity! We enjoyed being able to taste a lot of different wines from the entire Rhône valley and being able to buy it there. The store is very beautiful and the staff is friendly and competent, happy to answer all questions! A nice place to simply enjoy a glass as well :)

Disclaimer. I never got to do an actual tasting but still would like to share my experience. Got an online reservation for lunch the day before and received confirmation email(as it turned out later it was a waiting list confirmation). Not suspecting anything the three of us arrive at 12 noon. The place looks very nice and upscale and is completely empty, except for a few workers. The man in front, who is meeting us, speaking perfect English, quickly found us in the computer and seemed to be visibly annoyed with us. "Its always a problem with you, foreigners" that you can't understand what's in the email, it clearly says "waiting list" and so on and so forth. We politely inquired that may be we can seat at the bar or anywhere in the corner and just taste a few wines. He said it is absolutely not possible, that he is expecting a large party any minute now and did not suggest any alternatives for us. He clearly wanted us to leave, which we did. we certainly did not appreciate his attitude and were taken aback by pure disregard of our situation even though mistake was ours. Will Not attempt to come back. There many other options out there.

Good wine tasting. The wines of Jaboulet are some of the best from the region and showed very well. Our tasting guide was very kind. Food at lunch afterwards was good. However, compared to other tastings, this was lackluster. The guide was just a bartender, he didn't have wine training, so we couldn't ask any technical questions. The tasting itself was done in the restaurant instead of a private room. Also, while we did the highest tier tasting, it actually didn't include the best wines from Jaboulet (like La Chapelle). The prices in the shop were also not much better than in the US.

If you want to do the lunch wine tasting, make reservations!! The lunch area is quite small. As we didn't make a rezzie, we just sat at the bar to tray some wines. The 2012 La Petite Chapelle Hermitage was our favorite glass...we also tried the cote rotie. I wish we had more time to try more wines here. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the wines in Hermitage or Croze Hermitage. Just absolutely delish syrah wines!

LA PENICHE - Bed And Bicycle in Tournon-sur-Rhone offers a unique stay on a barge with comfortable and individually decorated guestrooms. The location is within walking distance of Chateau de Tournon and Passerelle Marc Seguin, offering beautiful views of the Rhone and Tain L'Hermitage. Guests can enjoy onsite massages, terrace views, and complimentary wireless internet access.
All worked fine. Short notice online booking via QR code at the ship. Received check in code which also works for the bike storage. Room and anything else was tidy. Bike storage a bit cramped with different other stuff but worst case there are lockable enclosed bike storage rooms nearby. Air conditioned rooms.

The operation is very well structured, with explanations on the website once you've booked. You don't meet the hosts since entry to the barge and the room is managed by QR code. Coffee and tea are available, along with large bay windows, a terrace, and a Nordic bath. I booked a massage, which was performed by a lovely and very professional woman. Massage room with sauna and shower. The room is large (20m²) with two very large portholes overlooking the dock and the Rhône. The room is modern with beautiful decor, great bedding... you can almost see the fish swimming by. In short, a very pleasant stay and worth repeating for the "change of scenery," the shops nearby without the hassle... (Translated by Google) Quiet and peaceful place, very pleasant barge inside and out, well furnished and decorated. The rooms are very nice. Booking is easy and customer service is responsive and courteous. Bike rental is available, a simple but nice bonus for exploring the surrounding area. Value for money is a bit expensive for my taste given the amenities. You can check into your room at your preferred time (badge system), and you can enjoy the outdoor pool and terrace at your leisure. The setting is truly lovely. The only downside to this experience: the breakfast (excluding coffee, which you can pick up from the fridges in the kitchen upstairs): 1 piece of fruit, 1 fromage blanc, and 1 slice of brioche per person with a dollop of jam. The fruit juice isn't good, even though there are some excellent local producers around here. The products are of poor quality, which is disappointing. It's a shame and frustrating to end on this note...

Perfect for a good lunch on the road or if staying in town. Busy on the two times we visited, but great, swift and friendly service. It is so good that we detoured to have lunch here on the way back. Not fancy or haute cuisine, just good genuine brasserie style made well! Tres Bien!

Prepare to change your image of ravioli! Their regional special, a cheese and ravioli baked dish (comes in a variety of add on ingredients i.e. fois gras) is particularly filling (suggested one for 2 pax) and tastes exactly like Mac and cheese, albeit in a different shape. Pretty good wine list. Decent food but a bit disappointed by the steak. Too much bone and cartilage/fat that you don't eat just adding weight. Also, we were sat by the kitchen and the smell of food was really strong. The open kitchen concept works if the space is big and you have excellent ventilation but here you end up with smoke in the dining room.

Well-filled pizza, perfect meat and fish cooking! We enjoyed ourselves. Small downside on the Monday hamburger where the last one was not hot enough and a little dry. The music on Friday (disco) was to our taste and perfect. Saturday was rock and very good too. Very satisfactory value for money We highly recommend (Original) En week-end à Tain l hermitage nous avons dîner un vendredi et samedi soir ainsi que du lundi midi. (Translated by Google) Scammer. Nor go especially not, I never had a quote or voucher for agreement, and had to pay 500th stack (for two parts, one of which he did not install) in advance, to then recover my vehicle in the same condition, and having to pay €60 again (in cash, clearly not declared) for the "labor", and I had to ask for an invoice because I had not been given anything or send it by email several days later. I had asked for my alternator to be changed, he assured me that he had tested it and that there was no need to change it, and a few km later I broke down on the highway (fortunately I didn't have an accident). The owner of this garage took advantage of my distress (this vehicle was my home) and my lack of knowledge of mechanics and mechanics (it was my first time in a garage). Following our breakdown, I was helped out by another garage (this time really competent) who confirmed to me that it was indeed my alternator that was the problem, he changed it for me, and I no longer have a problem to start, battery voltage problem, or light on. (Original) Escroc.

Extremely disappointed. The lunch menu was 33€ and the starter looked like pasta for kids that you would not even use at home with some see food not smelling good. The wine was not good, we asked to change because it felt the cork, the waiter took us high before checking ... and finally he change it without even apologizing ... The main course was " ok " but not at the level of my expectations. The place should be nice outside, but the food was too expensive for the quality served on the plate. Too bad !

Cycling the Via Rhôna after a long day I needed to spoil myself. I couldn’t have made a better choice. Despite opting for the simplest €32 menu option I had impeccable service, two rounds of delicious appetisers, followed by entree, main and cheese. The food was magnificent and the sommelier made excellent wine suggestions. Some petit fours then surprised me and the sommelier impressed again with an excellent local fortified wine. I could not fault this restaurant.
