Military Museums
Musée Mémoires 39-45 is a remarkable museum that vividly portrays the World War II era. The fort's construction by 200,000 French workers and subsequent capture by the Germans is showcased in a spectacular manner. Visitors can experience the feeling of wartime bombardments through a specially designed room. The museum offers multilingual information, personal stories from various perspectives, reconstructed living spaces, access to bunker levels, and restored trenches with panoramic views.
Wasn’t aware of any war time installations in the area. 🙄 So, as a history nerd, I had to go there and found a pretty decent museum. Well maintained and very explanatory. It’s basically around a former German artillery position. Interesting stuff is shown.
Michael E — Google review
Very well done little museum with so much history. I enjoyed the personal accounts, which were difficult to read at times but added so much more depth to the experience. It’s much bigger than I anticipated. I thought we’d spend no more than an hour there but ended up taking 3 in order to read and listen to everything. The location is beautiful as well. I highly recommend taking the time to visit this museum and memorial.
Laurel — Google review
Can I give this 6 stars? The museum is set in a German bunker, the scenes inside show how life was at that time. Everywhere are personal accounts of their experiences, hence "Museum of memories" I think these are better than gun displays. There is a room that realisticaly simulates a bombing raid which can be scary. Out side the bunker do go down the trenches for more exhibits.
Ewan B — Google review
This is a wonderful museum and I love the way they have framed the stories - both known facts and stories from those who lived the experience first hand. Took us over 2 hours to read through everything. Worth a visit!
Andy D — Google review
Definitely the best museum we have ever visited. Time goes quickly in this WW2 bunker reading the personal stories of soldiers & civilians. My two teens loved every minute of it. The bomb shelter simulation room was incredible. Well done 👏

What an amazing place. Extremely informative across several languages. Excellent set up. Lots of stairs as you go down and up throughout the facility. The experience room was amazingly real. Very scary and thought provoking at the same time. Wow... very realistic!! A credit to the two brothers who put all the hard work together. Well worth a visit!!

Fabulous Museum !! we changed our itinerary to make a special trip here. Well worth it agree with everything that previous reviews have said. well done to all those involved in setting up this brilliant really informative museum. The personal narratives of all involved from both sides of a terrible conflict is nonjudgemental and very moving.

Hotel
Event venue
Hostellerie De la Pointe Saint Mathieu is a charming hotel located in Plougonvelin, at the western tip of Brittany. The hotel offers bright rooms, some with stunning sea views, and features a cozy restaurant and a spa for relaxation. The property has been in the family since 1954 and has successfully combined traditional appeal with contemporary furnishings.
A great hotel with swimming pool and excellent bar and restaurant staff! I highly recommend for the dark skies alone! Stunning location and very close to an old WW2 German bunker! The room was wonderful - large bed, nice bathroom, big tv and a coffee pod machine. It would have been nice to have been given a couple of pods per person given they aren’t too expensive to supply but that is a minor gripe - and that is all the gripe there is! Would love to come again and explore this area more as there is a lot to offer from a coastal walk perspective. The restaurants here are reasonably priced too. We had the Bistro menu and enjoyed it. Perhaps next time we will go for the main restaurant service. The drinks bar was great and a special shoutout to the barman who was very friendly! The staff were all very nice and helpful too. My wife used the pool and said it was lovely and warm.
Andy D — Google review
The hotel is really good for a small family and with the pool, kids can just stay and play there. Everything you need is close by, so it's hand and convenient.
Merlissa D — Google review
The Hostellerie enjoys a truly enviable location: right beside the historic abbey and lighthouse of Pointe Saint-Mathieu, with breathtaking views of the wild Breton coastline and immediate access to scenic cliffside walks. Breakfast is another highlight, generous and varied, with plenty of high-quality options to start the day. That said, service quality is clearly declining, even as the hotel positions itself more and more as a luxury property. During our three-night stay, bed linens and bathroom towels were never changed, and the bed was poorly made: the mattress cover didn’t even tuck properly, and the thin, undersized topper felt cheap and uncomfortable. The in-room hairdryer was outdated and inconvenient, far below the standards expected. Bathroom floors were washed daily, but the cleaning was superficial: corners and details were neglected, and it showed. This lack of care echoed in other aspects of service. Laundry was another disappointment—we sent three polo shirts at a cost of €24, only to have them returned late (and only after we asked at reception), not ironed, and with one still stained. In short, while the setting is spectacular and breakfast excellent, attention to detail and everyday service fall well below expectations. With more thorough housekeeping, updated amenities, and professional services, the Hostellerie could live up to its unique location—but for now, it does not deliver the luxury it promises.
Alessio V — Google review
Wonderful location with big, comfortable, well appointed rooms. Incredible views out to sea and of the abbey and lighthouse. Service was top notch. Very attentive and polite. Breakfast was excellent and with the extra 25 euro. Pool and spa area was good but a little dated.
Ben M — Google review
Modernist room design comfortable but not to my taste.private hotel parking closed for works so not best for premium/classic cars
A — Google review
Beautiful location, rooms outdated, nice restaurants but you have to reserve well in advance and nobody tells you that…ridiculous minibar prices
Giorgio — Google review
Of course I’ll drop 5-stars because of many reasons such as first of all the location which is very close to the great panorama view. Second of all because the bed are extremely comfy! And last of my point is about the Breakfast which is very very good and lots of choices. I haven’t had chance to try any of the swimming pool, spas and relaxing things in there but I hope I’ll be able to try it in the future for sure.
WTFlow — Google review
One of the cutest towns on the beach. The lighthouse is beautiful, and the hotel is situated right across the street. We came into the hotel without a reservation and was told that both the hotel and its two restaurants were fully booked. Which is totally understandable, except for the fact that on booking we were able to find two rooms. The staff is exceptionally rude and unhelpful. The hotel itself is very nice, drinks and food is very nice. We found out that the restaurant had many tables open so we were able to have dinner here as well- so the approach of the staff is super odd. It was very rude and to be honest unacceptable. They did not even apologize. So all in all just go somewhere where they appreciate their guests.

Guests can indulge in delectable seafood dishes crafted from fresh local ingredients at the on-site restaurant, where the chef specializes in simple yet exquisite flavors.
Prefect meat, great food, super fast service (maybe a tiny little bit too fast), but overall, a great experience and a very nice evening. Would go there any time and recommend it to my friends.

Oh my my, what a terrible experience. First off, the service was terrible, probably due to understaffing. Took the wrong order and served it with big delays. Then had to return it and make the correct order... and even then the steak wasn't grilled properly... This is nothing compared to the fact that the place was basically a massive group gathering for all the bugs in the area. It was infested with some flying insects, looked like ants with wings. People asked to be moved. The insects were falling in the food, crawling all over everyone.. the restaurant staff did nothing about it and I am certain this wasnt the first time. If you can go somewhere else, pick that.
Yan H — Google review
My wife and I booked this hotel for a long weekend, we had a room with 'magnific' views! This was true but the room was tacky with poor decoration, grubby! The room key was attached to a fabric fish toy which was dirty! The bathroom taps were loose as was the toilet flush. This hotel needs a Gorden Ramsey makeover! However the restaurant was excellent as was the position on the water front. They stated they had parking, but this was in a blue zone! Would not stay there again!
JOHN H — Google review
This was our second visit to Le Relais, the first was in 2012. Our stay was over Bastille Day, so we participated in the Bastille Day celebrations, the next day's town picnic, and then the town's outstanding festival of Breton song and dance. The tourist bureau is extremely helpful. The hotel has superb rooms, large, clean, and with very roomy bathrooms. Most overlook the harbor with it's amazing tides of 11 meters, and it's crowd of fishing and private boats. Nearby is an art gallery with outstanding art. Good swimming beaches are nearby. The restaurant serves very good Breton and French dishes, and at a very reasonable price. The 'plat de fruits de mere' for one person was excellent and more than enough for the two of us. A small porch, as well as several tables on the sidewalk, are great for dinners or for after dinner drinks . The restaurant is 'the place' for local people, and touists. We'll be back in 2016.

Arrival on the island there were plenty of coaches in service with passengers who had booked.... I had not specified any company at the office as I did not know them, they could have given me the contact details of those who offer this service even if they do not do their own ticketing. I was lucky to find a free company locally. (Original) Bon accueil.

4.7
(175)
Plage des Curés is one of the most famous beaches in the area, known for its almost turquoise waters. Accessible by a large stone staircase, this super beautiful beach offers transparent water and a magical cove to recharge your batteries. Visitors are often surprised by the incredible color of the water, making it a superb and awesome place to visit. Additionally, there are heated seawater pools available at the Treziroise pool for those looking to take a dip in cooler weather.

The charming Plage de Bertheaume, with its direct access to the historic Fort of the same name, offers a picturesque setting for beachgoers. While it may have appeared slightly neglected during one visit, the closure of all kiosks could be attributed to an early season opening in France. The sea's tranquil demeanor adds to the allure of this lovely coastal spot.

(Translated by Google) I've known this beach for over three years. It's a pleasant beach for children because it's not too big, ideal for bringing children and keeping an eye on them, so it's more family-friendly. What I saw this afternoon literally shocked me. Families had set up camp tables... music blaring. Not far from the barbecue games with the smell of grilling. I've never seen anything like that. What's more, we walk from the center to reach this beach, and there are cars parked everywhere on both sides, there's no other way but to walk on the road. I've never seen anything like that. It's frankly deplorable. This road should be reserved for local residents only. Berthaume beach has two large parking lots at the top. It's unacceptable for the town to let this happen. I hope we'll eventually get our beach back in better condition, not to mention the smell of garbage. I think there's a limit to eating a small meal on the beach without turning the place into an orgy. The supervising team is friendly and accommodating, making it a great family activity. Additionally, the surrounding area provides beautiful coastal walks and stunning views.

I had a reservation and after arriving, we waited 20 mins and never received any service. Multiple employees walked by us several times. No one stopped by to even offer water. I understand it was a little busy, but at least stop by to ask if I wanted something to drink. After 20 mins of waiting, we left and went next door, where we promptly received service. We used to recommend this place all the time, however we cannot currently recommend this place.

(Translated by Google) We felt like we had thrown away 50 euros. The savory crepes were of very average quality, with poor filling and presentation. The crepes didn't seem to be made at the last minute and in no way reflect the authentic Breton crepes, especially for a restaurant located in the middle of a central square. I should have taken a photo, but after looking at the ones posted in the reviews, I realized it was already too late. (Original) Nous avons l’impression d’avoir jeté 50 euros à la poubelle. Nestled by the harbor, Kan Ar Mor is a delightful creperie that promises an unforgettable culinary experience. With a menu brimming with enticing options, you can savor both savory and sweet crepes that are sure to please your palate. (Translated by Google) good creperie, the menu makes you want to taste different recipes, my bacon, andouille, onion and ham crepe was good although the ham deserves to be of better quality (with price increase accordingly). normally I would have given 4 stars for the ham but my dessert was really excellent, the Crêpe Tatin specialty with caramelized apples, vanilla ice cream and whipped cream deserves 5 stars. For children who are not fans of savory crepes, there are other choices. The prices are correct, to do again. (Translated by Google) Very disappointed, The pancakes are very dry, I think they are reheated pancakes, they lack the little taste of Breton butter, they are really very bland. As for the garnish, it's very minimalist, I ask for a ham and egg crepe, I just get a mini piece of ham, look for yourself in the photo. Considering the price we pay, it's really pitiful. Even no whipped cream pancakes on the menu, never before seen to eat a whipped cream pancake obliged to pay an extra €2.80 I am really disappointed and I definitely do not recommend this creperie There are other much better ones (Original) Très déçue, Les galettes sont tres sèches, je pense que ce sont des galettes réchauffées, il manque le petit gout de beurre breton elle sont vraiment tres fades. (Translated by Google) Very disappointing: the pancakes were delicious but that's the only positive point. Half an hour wait to take the order, allocated table too small (the placemats were all overlapping and I had the leg of the table between my legs - I would have preferred to have been told when I booked that there was no availability that evening). Forced to keep the menus on the table because of the coronavirus, I can understand that but not when we don't even have enough room for the carafe, so they ended up on the floor against the wall. Ham pancake for a little one who hates cheese, arrived full of cheese. And the dessert cutlery placed directly on the crepes so full of toppings and impossible to use without getting it everywhere. The crepes are very good, hence the 2nd star, but clearly that's not enough. Photo: the knife placed IN the pancake, sticky as possible even after wiping it with the paper towel... And there were several of us at the table who had a knife in this state.

We had great fun here. I visited with two teenagers and we all really enjoyed the adventure. Spectacular scenery. We spent about two hours completing the full course. The older teen did the Black Route (hardest) and myself and the 13 year old did the Red Route. Even this route was challenging, but great fun. Going down into the cave was the most exciting bit. The two zip lines were awesome. Very good value for money and all the equipment was in very good condition. We felt very safe all the time. We would love to visit again.

We read service at the counter to end up having a young, pleasant, smiling waitress who serves us at the table (oh great, that's great, taking orders at the table too ☺️) and afterward the pleasure of eating a soft and very well-filled waffle . Accompanied by a very good Viennese chocolate. It was a great time, we’ll come back ☺️☺️ (Original) Au détour d’une balade venteuse le plaisir d’avoir un café-restaurant ouvert un 1er novembre.

La Marina is a delightful pizzeria that offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it the perfect spot for pizza lovers. Located conveniently near the beach, this charming establishment boasts both indoor seating and an outdoor terrace where you can soak in stunning views of palm trees and Trezir beach. The staff at La Marina are known for their friendly demeanor and quick service, ensuring that your dining experience is enjoyable even during busy times.
Been here twice for dinner. The service was good, friendly and fast. The food was simple but very good, and not very expensive. I had Moules with Roquefort, and i highly reccomend the Tiramisu!

(Translated by Google) I do not recommend this restaurant. As soon as we arrived, we noticed that the place lacked cleanliness, which is already a bad sign. The mussels were tasteless, without any flavor. But the worst came from the boss, who was in bad faith when we mentioned that the fries were not edible. Despite the evidence, he insisted they were "homemade", even though it was clear they were frozen and had a strong, days-old vegan smell. The water in a carafe was served to us in a bottle with a brown bottom, with an unpleasant taste. On top of that, the decor seems to date from the 90s and has obviously not been refreshed since. We now understand better why there were almost no customers. A real disappointment on every level.

Indoor room and an outdoor terrace, very pleasant in good weather with a breathtaking view of the palm trees and Trezir beach. The menu is varied, everything you need for those who like pizza and I recommend the mussels and fries which for me are the best I have eaten in Brittany. Easy access for disabled people, ground floor establishment. Go there without moderation alone in pairs or in a group and let yourself be tempted.

The only downside that you will find in all the restaurants in the city is that he stops cooking early. (Original) Très bon et pas cher. Le personnel est aimable et serviable.
