This place has been on my bucket list for a while and I recently visited in the last week of June. I used one of the boat tour companies and it was incredible and a must do if you're in La Rochelle. Although you can't land on the fort, it's still spectacular to circle it and admire the fort that's been on our TV in the past, and for some countries still is!

Fouras....This is not Blackpool! A very French holiday resort...small but perfectly formed...lots of nice lovely shops and a number of beaches. If you want to avoid the low water 'mud' ( a la Weston super mare) head to the full and deep.. in places.. seawater pool at the far end of the towns main beach. Great cafes and restaurants across the front and in town...and camping available close by. A real find ( dont tell anyone!!)

Perfect day out in Fouras. Lovely town, three beaches and walks around the shore. We love the pool on this beach which can be used even when the sea is nowhere in sight. Cafes and restaurants are close by. There is a shower on the beach and the sand is lovely. In the evening you can stroll along the promenade.

Impressive and well preserved historic fort with outstanding views over the Charente estuary l'Île-d'Aix, l'Île Madame and Île d'Oléron, Fort Boyard and Fort Enet. Entry is free although there is a fee to access the museum which was closed when we visited, also we were not able to access the top of the tower, however you still get impressive views from the terrace. We took advantage of free parking in a large car park beside the fort.
