One of the best Trust houses we have visited. Great art works everywhere in the huge rooms. It was nice to have some seating to relax and enjoy. The grounds are well kept making it a pleasant walk from the car parking area. Seats in the cafe were limited during the rain showers, as one would expect.

Another National Trust gem! Had a wonderful day there. So much to see and wonderful walks in the grounds and deer park. The art collection is outstanding and as usual the volunteers in the house were great. Had an interesting talk in the square dining room about the history of the family. Found the kitchens fascinating!Great cafe too. Highly recommend.

Visiting Petworth House is a great way to spend a few hours. Impressive artwork, including many Turner paintings, sculptures, a Chapel, a deer park, servants quarters, well kept gardens and a cafe with plenty of seating. I found the Main House interesting, and the furnishings gave an idea of how life may have been, but I always like visiting the servants quarters, as they give me more of a feel for the character of the House. The Guides were very informative and came up with interesting facts which added to the experience. The House is about a ten minutes walk from Reception, with a slight incline in places. There is a large car park which was showing as "full" when I arrived, but I, and the cars following behind, managed to find a space.

Petworth is a NT place with huge grounds and a large house. The ground are beautiful and lead down to a lake from the house. The ground here can be quite boggy, even in good weather so be wearing suitable footwear. The house itself is large and you can walk round a lot of it but because the family still inhabit it, a lot of it is still private. They do open up certain extra spaces at points so worth checking out, for example in Oct some of the upstairs is open. Opposite the house are the servants quarters which have been turned into some viewing space alongside a bookshop and cafe. Also there are toilets in here, the only other toilets are before the entrance. There are NT volunteers around the house and they were all very friendly and helpful. The house is quite a walk from the car park however so you will need to be able to walk a distance or use one of the wheelchairs you can borrow (probably best to try and book one). The gardens are spacious and varied from the open space down to the lake by the house to the woodland and dogs on leads can be walked here (not in the house). Definitely worth a visit, in the colder months probably and hour or twos visit but in summer we have spent several hours here exploring the grounds and having a picnic etc.

My first National Trust to visit and this place did not disappoint. Very lovely art displays inside, interesting history, good restaurant, friendly staff. There’s a super big walk outside the actual property which we also did, a lot of deer around the area which was lovely to see. Lake area also beautiful. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a nice summer activity.

A truly wonderful day trip to the picturesque village of Petworth allowed us to stroll through its cobbled streets, full of charming cafés and many art galleries displaying antiques and beautiful pieces of art. There’s a convenient parking area and a spacious café within the Petworth House grounds — a perfect place to take a break and look over the map provided at reception. The interior architecture and the abundance of artworks take you back in time, while the gardens outside are stunning and beautifully maintained, offering a heavenly atmosphere in every season. Definitely worth a visit — take your time and enjoy every minute!

Very accessable by public transport via Pulborough station and the 1 bus although you need to get your timings in sync. Superb parkland and interesting in interiors if a little lacking in natural light. Superb staff input and loved the 2nd hand bookshop. A brilliant day out.

I love this place. Come in each year when on holiday. Last year I saw a book, which I didn't buy, but regretted it. Back at our holiday destination I decided I really wanted the book. Contacted the Petworth Antiques Market to ask if the trader had an online presence. The manager came back and said they didn't, but, without asking, he put the book aside for a few days for me, if I should decide to call back. I did and am delighted with my book! Will be back again this year!

Should not be missed when visiting Petworth. There is something for everyone, and suited to every wallet. I never go home empty handed! The sellers and owners are knowledgeable and very helpful. I would highly recommend a visit.

Gorgeous antiques, found some lovely bits and bobs, got a couple books and a crystal. Lovely staff and lots of friendly faces! :)

Each time I visit, it's always full of different stock. Dealers are happy to help and talk about their items. Very cheerful and light in the rooms.

Watch your head! Amazing old building and the rooms are well furnished, but watch your head for the low beams! It’s part of the character and charm, but don’t forget to duck! The breakfast, for me, was epic! Every element was very tasty, extremely well presented and high quality. Superb coffee and juice too. I didn’t see the black pudding on the menu - but thank you - I loved it!

We liked the Angel Inn very much. We stopped for lunch. The menu is imaginative with pub classics too. Great historic building on the edges of Petworth. Friendly and efficient staff too.

I had to stop at the inn when I had a punctured tyre very early in the morning and the staff were so kind and helpful. They allowed me to use their WiFi to call assistance and were kind enough to point me to a local garage they knew that would fit my new tyre at a good price. They also offered me breakfast and allowed me to stay at their restaurant until assistance arrived. I ordered a coffee while I waited and it was actually really good too! So five stars for the friendliness of the staff and for the delicious coffee!

We popped in for lunch after visiting Petworth House NT. A showery Tuesday 22nd June. The restaurant was light and airy. I chose the Local fish and chips. What I wasn't expecting was possibly the best fish and chips I've ever had. Really fresh Haddock, crispy batter with not a drop of excess oil, triple cooked chunky chips, again perfectly drained and amazingly crispy, peas and samphire. The chef deserves a commendation for serving a cracking lunch.

Probably the greatest burger I’ve ever had - perfectly presented, full of flavour and incredibly satisfying! Kudos to the chef and staff. A lovely dining experience.

Nice building and room with some great staff (the man that served breakfast) and not so great (the lady who bluntly told us the bar was shut at 10:40pm on Saturday as we walked back in - even though we hadn't asked!). Three stars because for this price customers deserve more. Hotel guests should at least be served at the bar until 11pm, bed was very hard, breakfast limited (cooked part fine but ridiculously few other options - eg fruit was pears or plums and no plain yoghurt). Seems like the management could so easily win this back and I hope they do.

A beautiful oldy worldy building to stay within walking distance to the village centre & lots of beautiful walks. A perfect little garden to enjoy a drink or two. Definitely worth staying. Also lovely huge breakfast.

This was by far the best Indian food I have ever had. My partner and I popped in last night (Monday) without a booking. Lovely welcome, wonderful service and absolutely delicious food. We both had a special (me the coconut chilli fish curry, him the kebabs), shared a rice, a dry veggie curry and a stuffed paratha. Soooo good. It’s two hours from home - we were driving back from Glasto - but I’d travel to Petworth again just to eat their food, haha! Thoroughly recommend!

Delicious Indian restaurant. Delicious Tandoori Murg chicken. Devine. Very nice and helpful staff. £60 for 1 starter, 2 mains, rice and naan. Beautiful village Petworth is worth to see after lunch or dinner. Restaurant is really worth to visit. If you like Indian cuisine or you wish to taste it, you will be more than happy.

The best south Asian Indian meal I’ve ever had, outstanding vegetarian food. Not over facing. Highly recommend their paneer starter, their mutter aloo and their delicious breads.

BEST CURRY IN THE WORLD. Having worked and travelled extensively in India and lived in London, this is hands down the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to. We are so lucky to live so close to it :-)

We owe a huge thank you to Sitar and the team at Basmati Petworth for providing us with an exceptional birthday meal for my Dad. What a kind and thoughtful man Sitar is, surprising us all with a birthday cake! The main meal was outstanding and we laughed and smiled throughout the evening. Would highly recommend a visit, not just because of the great service, but the unusual nature of eating in a stunning underground restaurant.

Just had a really good meal there. Staff are lovely. Love the rustic cellar setting that is beautifully lit. The staff couldn't do enough for us. The food is seasoned perfectly, not too spicy (unless you order a really spicy dish!). The Korma sauce is gorgeous. I will definitely be going back there with my husband. A brilliant restaurant right on my doorstep!

Amazing curry, one of the best saag paneer I’ve had. The apricot curry was offered mild too, despite the heat of the summer. So overall they were extremely accommodating, staff were very friendly. Will return again.

In the heart of Petworth lays this little gem of an Indian restaurant . Beneath the street the Basmati is in a old wine cellar which makes for a interesting visit in itself. The menu was great and the food was equally good. Service was spot on, will be going back and recommending to friends.

I would rate the food 6/5 if I could. A mix of classics and regional dishes - we finished every bite. We will return when next nearby, encourage you to visit too!

This is a true gem of a place, great food and the loveliest staff. Sausages and biscuits on tap for your 4 legged friends 🐾 We are lucky enough to have come here regularly for years. You can always rely on great service, lovely food and a home from home environment. To top it all off, the catering they offer for events is second to none, Gemma thinks of everything and offers a wide array of delicious options that make you look like the hostess with the mostess and leave your guests going back for thirds 💓

The sausage roll was great and the service was friendly and attentive. However it’s safe to say the worst pizza I have eaten- very bland with too much cheese. Could have got a better frozen one. The cake we had was not too great either.

Lovely small cafe serving light lunch, a selection of cakes, leaf teas, posh pop sodas. Jacket potatoes, sandwiches, including toasted, with a choice of fillings, and much more. Great ambience and atmosphere. Good prices, too. Got busy, very quickly. Highly recommended.

Very enjoyable visit. Popped in for an iced latte and a tea, small cake (a very tasty Bakewell muffin!) to give us a break from having a wander about Petworth. Reasonable prices and welcoming staff, highly recommended! And we happened to be sat next to Vinnie Jones who lives nearby, as he was also a patron at the time. Great stuff

Arrived at 1.15pm very busy which is a good sign. We waited outside for 10 mins for a table. Ordered toasties and cheese scone with brie and chutney. Good sized portions and really lovely food, presentation. Would definitely visit again.

Great little tea rooms with a large menu, from delicious scones and cakes to a full English! Dogs very welcome, they even sell doggy ice cream. Be prepared for a little wait at this popular tasty venue.

We were passing through and looking forward to a nice meal after a long journey, but The Star pub left us sorely disappointed. We called ahead to book a table and were initially excited about our meal. The staff promptly took our orders, but then the long wait began. It took 50 minutes for our food to arrive, despite the dining area being nearly empty. During our wait, the staff were noisily sorting out cutlery, seemingly for the entire month, making the experience unbearable. When our food finally arrived, it was mediocre at best. I ordered a chicken burger and fries; while the fries were nice (reminiscent of McDonald’s, which I consider a positive), the burger was the worst I’ve ever had—completely tasteless, like eating cardboard. My partner ordered fish and chips and found it equally unimpressive. We paid over £45 for two meals, a pint of beer, and a pint of pop. This price would have been acceptable if the food had been tasty, but unfortunately, it was not. We cannot recommend this place. If you still wish to put yourself through this experience, by all means, avoid the chicken burger. It seemed more like a drinks establishment for the locals, as there were plenty of people in their work clothes enjoying a pint. Perhaps it’s a nice spot for a drink, but as far as dining goes, it fell short of expectations.

We popped in for lunch and ordered a sandwich each which we then had a wait ages for a it appears the pub had been caught out by the number of visitors on an unexpectedly sunny day. The people in the next take waited an hour for sandwiches but luckily ours were not that long. The staff were very apologetic about the long wait and did offer us a free drink a compensation which we declined. However, when the sandwiches arrived they were very disappointing and not what you expect for £12.50. Sliced shop bought bread and soggy chips with not a hint of garnish except the random pea my partner discovered squashed between sandwich and plate. £31 for 2 sandwiches, 2 halves of lime and soda and one 50g packet of peanuts!!! The pub was warm and cosy at least. We will not return.

A Perfect Summer Dining Experience We had the pleasure of dining at this incredible restaurant on a warm summer’s day, and everything about the experience was flawless. We sat outside, enjoying the beautiful weather and relaxed ambiance — the setting alone was enough to make the afternoon special. The food was absolutely superb. Every dish was crafted with care, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. You can truly taste the quality and passion in each bite. What made it even better was the outstanding service. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome. They anticipated our needs without being intrusive, and their menu knowledge helped us make excellent choices. Between the amazing food, impeccable service, and the lovely outdoor setting, this was a five-star experience from start to finish. Can’t wait to return!

Limited number of interesting main courses suggests food freshly prepared. Excellent value at around £16.00 each. 4 of us each chose a different dish, all delicious. Friendly staff.

I am that awkward customer who needs every change to the menu! Being on a diet we asked if I could have a smaller portion of my choice and was told no problem at all. Well, if that’s a small portion then a big portion would be huge! I had the chicken supreme with dauphinous potatoes which I’ve not had before and hubby had the Star burger with chips which he said was delicious too. The chef (Joey) did laugh when I asked for the rest of mine in a doggy bag but hey, I have tea now too! Nothing was too much trouble, we had a lovely lunch and will definitely be back again (sorry guys ha ha)

Expensive food. Venison cottage pie with seasonal veg. No flavour, very small potion, seasonal veg was about 6 tiny carrots ontop of alot of mash. Butternut risotto, without the butternut. Service was dreadful, no customer service. Staff didn't seem to know what they were doing. Overall very disappointed.

Found the Star by chance and had superb Sunday roasts ( chicken and pork) . Very good portions of meat , vegetables, Yorkshire pudding , gravy .A little wait because they were very busy but very friendly staff.

A pretty cafe with outdoor seating. Sitting in the sun was lovely. Dropped stars as three members of staff behind the counter, 2 doing nothing, one serving. The one who served the small queue whilst the others just seem to ‘be there’. The queue could have been moved quicker if one took the order and the others prepared it. Absolutely no interaction from the staff apart from telling us the price. £9 for a small Pash ‘n’ Shoot smoothie and a small cappuccino seemed expensive. Sandwiches in the chilled counter for nearly £11. Not surprisingly it was still there at honey 3pm. Will we return? Possibly not.

Visited today for coffee and cake. The venue is beautiful (although extremely cold) and the waitress was lovely. However, there were no vegan cake options (out of about six cakes), and the only vegan food was a samosa or bhaji! Extremely disappointing and very much behind the times; far better places available close-by

So painfully slow service, coffee was awful ! My Cesar salad cost £13.50 as I added bacon NO chicken just literally tons of croutons and lettuce hardly any bacon. My husband had a tuna and cucumber sandwich he said the bread was nice but a very average sandwich. Huge chunks of cucumber and lacking on the mayo. I only had a water the bill was £28 so expensive ! Never would I go back. Wouldn’t waste your money !

Very good food. Quiche, samosas, chocolate tart, Ginger beer. Service friendly but can be a little slow when busy. Order food and drink at counter. Food served at table. Coffee could be improved. Not for coffee connoisseurs. Dog friendly Fairly basic setting but clean and tidy. Convenient setting near car park and town centre. Can sit outside when weather allows. Recommended.

A sweet, cosy cafe. Indoor and outdoor seating in a courtyard, next to a bookshop and florist, and right next to the main car park. Nice range of healthy options. The Coco Loco smoothie was very tasty (mango, pineapple, coconut, lime, mint). Pictured is a gluten free pea quiche, which was very good. Dropped a star due to the sausage sandwich, which was made with doughy bread and cold, flavourless sausage. Could do with better ingredients to match the rest of the menu.

We stopped by for lunch - sandwiches - and a drink. I know Petworth is expensive, but £10 for a sandwich? The sandwiches were OK - an average tuna mayo and a decent coronation chicken, but nothing to write home about. Drinks, likewise, were expensive for nothing very special (plus Mrs j got to carry them to the table herself). It was OK, but there are better, cheaper options in Petworth. On the plus side, there is a nice little outdoor seated area in a kind of walkway/courtyard, so that was pleasant.

I don’t usually leave reviews, but was so disappointed with this place, I feel the need to. Cakes were dry & unpleasant. My children couldn’t eat them. Especially the vegan millionaires shortbread. Dreadful! Hot chocolate was made with water & £4.50! Coffee tasted like chemicals & they were out of all other food. Service was insanely slow, & over-priced is an understatement. Really regret stopping there. Freezing inside & no toilets. Worst £58 I’ve ever spent.
