Affenberg Salem, located on the grounds of the vast Schloss Salem estate, is a 20-hectare wooded park where Barbary macaques roam freely. The park was founded as a Cistercian monastery in 1134 and now offers an extraordinary experience for visitors. Despite potentially bad weather, it's a great time to visit as the park is less crowded and visitors can engage with knowledgeable staff who share interesting stories.
Great for a day trip! The apes are so cute and super active! They are not afraid of people so one can watch them in a very close distance. The bonus was seeing the baby ape and the hidden dears in the high grass 😍 The staff are also super friendly and shared so many fun facts about the apes. Special thanks to Damian who kindly translated everything to English!

Very cool experience! Perfect place for families with kids. With an option to eat on site. We appreciated free parking and that the ticket price is absolutely fair. Wouldn't mind to pay a bit for parking as well, just to keep this place running. There were quite many people but still everything went smoothly and we did not have to wait too long.
Katrin L — Google review
It is such a fun! We recently visited Affenberg Salem and were absolutely delighted with the experience. It’s fascinating to observe the monkeys’ behavior up close, and the stories and explanations from the staff make the visit even more meaningful. Watching the feeding was both entertaining and educational. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an engaging and unique outing!
Alina G — Google review
The immersive animal encounters provide an unforgettable experience for children. The staff demonstrates exceptional kindness. Our interaction with Barbara, characterized by her dedication and sensitivity, was particularly noteworthy. Playgrounds are also available within the park. We highly recommend this establishment. Thank you.
Avi Y — Google review
The park is not big, but that was fine for us. The storks are absolutely amazing. Monkeys are cute. Also there are ducks, goose and deer. There was a line for tickets about 15 minutes (at the working day). Parking is free right here. Ok for baby strollers.
Ekaterina C — Google review
A little expensive for what it is, but definitely fun for the kids for a couple hours. I feel like the Tree Walk should really be included in the base price. It was actually quite fun, but hard to justify paying an extra 5 Euro. Anyway, it's worth a trip if you're looking for something new in the area.
David K — Google review
Unexpected park with storks, ducks, deers and a monkey sanctuary in a very Natural environment we much appreciated. The tour of the park takes 2 hours and you can add a high trail track for 5 euro each. You can no longer feed popcorn to the monkeys, but can feed deers at scheduled times. We had our own food but you could easily have lunch at the canteen there with outside tables. Plus, there is a lovely playground just outside the entrance where kids can play for hours. A souvenir shop also present. Accessibile to prams and wheelchair apart for the high-road. Highly recommended for a nice and relaxing sunday.
Valeria C — Google review
They made the learnings around the Berber Apes interesting and engaging. I've learned a few things and my kids loved to peek at the apes and their daily routine.

(Translated by Google) Have had breakfast there several times and are thrilled. Great selection, good quality of the food on offer and the price is completely right for what is on offer. Nice historical atmosphere. Only the room temperature could be a little higher, but the old walls are certainly difficult and expensive to heat. And every time you open the door, a rush of cold air comes in. So dress warmer, don't sit in a direct line to the door or come in spring/summer and enjoy 👍 (Original) Waren schon zum wiederholten Male dort frühstücken und sind begeistert.

This is an awesome place for kids and adults alike! Lots of interesting facts about tractors and cars - they even had a special exhibition about the “Käfer” Volkswagen! We’ve all enjoyed this museum a lot and will come back again!
Stefan H — Google review
The most complete tractor collection documenting European and german brand history you can imagine. All presented with uncountable details of agricultural objects set in scenes. Just overwhelming for tractor fans. Cars have been added in a second round, nice but not the same way they show tractors.
Thomas K — Google review
suprisingly big and unique selection. not only cars and tractors but old time way of living. in case of bad weather recomended. even in good one;-)

Think it could be my favourite museum. So much to see, all interesting with brilliant staging. Much more than cars and tractors plus good music playing while you follow the route - so as not to miss anything. Also, we had lunch at the lovely restaurant. Highly recommend.
Elaine G — Google review
Even if you are not a fan of tractors, come here anyway. There is a lot more to see than just tractors: They have cars, tools, toys, scenes of shoemakers, beauty shops, and much more. I especially liked the floor with all of the "little" cars. The basement floor is most impressive. The displays are artfully built. I spent over 2 hours here. They even have little toy tractors for kiddies to ride. You don't necessarily need to read German to appreciate this museum.

A very beautifull place to visit. It is worth the ticket price. Also very good place for kids. New and improved experience.
Alex M — Google review
A wonderful collection of tractors, cars, trucks and escavators. I even saw a can that could be driven at 200 kmph in the 1900s. The collection is from many places across the world. Crazy to know that now a days we are struggling to fix two wires while a 100 years back these vehicles were built with extreme complexiry
Anagha R — Google review
Stunning collection, mainly tractors but also some very nice vintage cars, as well as many traditional and newer tools and machinery for farms, reconstruction of traditional workshops for (mainly) rural occupations and crafts, as well as mid 20 century small shops, with samples of merchandise from that time: sweets, tobacco products, canned food, small tools for the household, newspapers and many many more, in fact a substantial sample of everyday life in the '50s and '60s. Back to the big mechanical stuff, you will be impressed by some of the more exotic tractors, some with motors of 10000 cubic centimeters or more, few with one cylinder-motors and lots of mechanical gadgetry mainly from the first part of the 20th century that helped to make those wonderful beasts moving. Also noticeable the very large number of different producers of tractors, in different countries and many factories, mainly in Germany, but also France, Italy, the US - so different market environenent compared with todays concentration of only a handful of tractor manufacturing firms. Take your time and browse patiently through several floors of well designed exhibits of mechanics and daily rural life! 👍🍀🤗

Kloster Birnau is a serene and picturesque stop along Lake Constance, perfect for a quiet break from busy travel. The baroque church itself is stunning, but what truly sets the place apart is its peaceful atmosphere and the breathtaking views over the vineyards stretching down to the lake. The angus burger was amazing!! It is smoky, juicy, one of the most satisfying burger I have ever had. It is shame that we already had dinner so we were able to eat only a burger as a dessert 🤪 I could have ordered and eaten a lot more food. I highly recommend this resto!!

Martin was very kind and helpful. He was welcoming and even let us taste a few wines before purchasing. He took the time to explain dishes to us and went out of his way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. I mentioned I liked rostis and he included one in our order for free. The Parma salad had outstanding flavour with fresh basil, mozzarella and thinly sliced ham. The lake fish were delicious and tender. Martin let us enjoy wine while we waited for our to go order. Overall great experience. Definitely recommend

It's a popular spot among food enthusiasts visiting Uhldingen-Muhlhofen, along with other well-regarded dining establishments in the area.
We were greeted by what I can only describe as the most miserable German in history. We hadn't made a reservation and he was so grumpy about it. Shaking his head he took us to a table (in the half empty restaurant) and threw the menus on the table. However a wonderful young man was our actual waiter and was very patient and attentive. He saved the day! Food came quick and was wholesome! Service from the other staff was attentive and quick. A nice location with a good atmosphere. Just a shame about the welcome!

Super nice place for dog owners, good food and super friendly service. It was the first time with our dog in a restaurant indoors, and yes, our dog barked and wasn’t quite. But that was no problem to the staff and they super friendly gave us a separate glass room so that it was a bit quieter. Our dog fell asleep immediately and we enjoyed a delicious dinner and desert. Absolute recommendation …

We chanced upon the restaurant because we were visiting the Zisterzienser-Priorat Kloster just across the road. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was professional and timely. We have visited 2 times now and tried the Pfannkuchen, Schnitzel and Boeuf Bourguignon as well as their homemade lemonade and coffee. They have a special of the day in addition to their regular menu. It's a beautiful restaurant with a perfect view of the Kloster and lake if you are seated by the window. There seems to be 2 storeys of dining area. You can also buy wine from the Bodensee region. There is also enough parking space outside of the restaurant.

The Pile Dwelling Museum, also known as Pfahlbaumuseum Unteruhldingen, is an open-air museum that offers a glimpse into the Stone Age village reconstruction. Visitors can explore the lake dwellings and witness demonstrations of ancient handicrafts. The museum features reconstructions of homes and buildings, providing insight into the lives of farmers, fishers, and families from that era. Guided tours explain the historical significance while offering activities for children such as ax-making and fire-starting.
A fantastic an thoroughly researched reconstitution of lakeside pile dwellings dating back 4000 years and which seem to have been abandoned around 800 BC. Very interesting and well documented copies of original artifacts and information about the way of life, diet, clothing, funerary rites and known technologies of the times. The lake level used to be 5m higher at the time. The site was abandoned due to a significant drop of temperatures (global cooling? ;o)
Marc S — Google review
My visit to the Pile Dwelling Museum in Unteruhldingen was a fantastic experience. The museum is beautifully designed and the reconstructed dwellings are truly impressive. It's clear that a great deal of care and expertise went into bringing this historical settlement to life. Walking along the boardwalks and seeing the houses up close really makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. However, as an English speaker, I found the experience to be a bit limited. While the visual aspects are stunning, there isn't much information available in English. The films and cinema presentations, which seem like they would be very informative, are purely in German. Adding subtitles in English, French, or other languages would be a huge improvement and would allow more international visitors to fully appreciate the rich history and research presented here.

Fantastic place, very well made! You need like 1,5 hour to cover it! Much worth a visit! Parking is only outside of the city possible
Michaela K — Google review
I'm a history nerd, so I was really engaged in showing my 4 (she says nearly 5) year old daughter the way our early early ancestors lived. The museum has an outdoor area, an indoor exebition and 2 short movies playing constantly. Outdoor you can visit several pole houses dating back +-3000years in time, but our guide told us, not all houses are original and local. They gathered several cultures and rebuild the houses exactly as they did in the early days. Some parts of the tour are really nice but they also neglected a small area on the side where docu's where made about this era. Our biggest issue appeared to be our small dog, because dogs are only allowed on the outdoor village and not welcome in the movies area and indoor exebition (mostly containing original tools made of stone, bronze or iron). This divided our small family into 2 teams during the visit. The museum is located in a touristic area, where swimming in the lake, playing minigolf, playing in a outdoor wooden playing area for children, and even several eating options are located. It's located near Meersburg but for me it's worth the 5km travel outside this historic city and make a beautiful relaxing day full of playing, exploring and a bit of history. Children and dogs are free in the museum.

Blumberg is situated at the very southern edge of the Black Forrest and also the last German town before the Swiss border
Traveler — Google review
The new visitor center is great, using the latest tech to explain the history in a relatable and immersive way. The reconstructed houses are kept simple, with basic info panels and props to show how they were used. By the time you've done them all, it is getting repetitive. The one-way system didn't work because some doors were locked. There is no excuse for having so much content in German only, even in the brand new multimedia part, considering this is the area's main tourist attraction (and supposed wet-weather saviour), and the majority of other guests were from outside Germany.
Graham B — Google review
I wish I could understand German, cause most of informartion was missed due to language barrier. My kids loved a lot of birds there.
Dmitrij M — Google review
We visited on a weekday. Highly recommend to come close to the opening hour: it will allow you to look around without crowds. The tour starts with several virtual rooms, you can be explorers, who have found the remains of pile houses. After that you get a short information tour on the place and then you can go and explore by yourself. The staff is very helpful and happy to answer any questions, sometimes turning them to a small tour. Reptilienhaus Unteruhldingen is a small museum located in Uhldingen-Muhlhofen, Germany. It features approximately 20 terrariums housing various reptiles, mostly snakes. Visitors can even touch one of the snakes and feel its skin, which is quite an interesting experience. The museum also offers the opportunity to observe the feeding of some animals.
I love snakes from afar, of course 😁 Friendly staff 🙂

Ok-ish experience in the Reptilienhaus in Uhldingen. It is located directly at the one big public parking area in the city, so no detour needed to visit this place and see the animals. To be clear, it is just one big room with approx. 20 terrariums, mostly snakes and some other reptiles. Very positive, one snake was on display for everybody to touch it at the body and feel the skin. That was interesting. You will probably spend 30-45 minutes in this tiny zoo and 15 EUR for a family ticket. Our kids were happy and interested - so time and money well spent.
Mark S — Google review
Interesting for sure, but a little bit pricey for what it is..
Silvie G — Google review
The minimal entry fee keeps the critters fed and warm.... Stop by and say hello to menagerie.
Chef S — Google review
The family ticket is worth 16€. You get to touch a real snake which is a highlight. The staffs are very friendly.. its a small room though with snakes, geckos etc..

If you are lucky there is a snake 🐍 on a branch which you can pet

Island
Nature & Parks
Mainau, also known as the Flower Island, is a picturesque island on Lake Constance that can be accessed via a bridge. It boasts beautiful parks, gardens, and a greenhouse. The island offers various attractions throughout the year such as the legendary Fasnacht, open-air theatre performances, and a Christmas market by the lake. Additionally, visitors can explore unique destinations like Sea Life and thermal baths for relaxation. Mainau's Butterfly House is particularly popular among tourists.
I can bet it is the most beautiful places I have visited. For the tulips, instead of visiting Keukenhof, this is a better place. Surrounded by nature, play gyms for kids, animals where kids can even feed the goats was a holistic experience. We went with our 2months old baby and it was quite smooth. There were ramps everywhere. Accessibility was not a challenge. The tulips were beautiful. There were other flower exhibitions as well indoors. A must visit for everyone!!!!! The connectivity via ships is also very smooth and timely. We went from Meersberg to Mainau.
Prachi G — Google review
the island is very pretty and has a lot to offer, many different kinds of nature sections and lots of things for kids around/ food places etc but was quite expensive (especially because i didn’t have long to stay which is not an issue of the place) but i could see how it could be kind of worth it as a whole day activity

A wonderful Island in the beautiful city of Constance(Konstanz). This island is decorated with thousands of varieties of flowers, each one more beautiful than the other. With a breath-taking view of the lake Bodensee, you can wander around the island and won't get enough out of it.

The island is incredibly beautiful — everything is in bloom and so well maintained! However, we were really disappointed to find out (a bit too late) that the butterfly house has different opening hours from the rest of the park. We arrived just 10 minutes after it closed and sadly missed it. It would be great if the timing was clearer on the map or signs.

Historical landmark
The Pulverturm, constructed in 1321 by the Jewish inhabitants of Konstanz, is a remarkable historical structure. This squat and robust edifice boasts walls that are two meters thick. Its presence cannot be overlooked when entering Konstanz via the bridge, as it stands as a welcoming symbol of the city's history. It is highly recommended to observe this tower closely, as its intricate details and significance make it a sight worth beholding.

(Translated by Google) The Powder Tower was built in 1321 as a warehouse for gunpowder and cannons, its walls are two meters thick. Several centuries later, it was used as a prison, and the tower was popularly called the Jewish Tower. Wealthy Jews languished here in prison, often on trumped-up charges. They could only leave prison for a hefty bribe, and those who refused were tortured. From its top, there is a beautiful view of the city and the Rhine. If you walk along the embankment from the Rhine Tower to the Powder Tower, you can see several sculptures, one of them is of the Grand Duke of Baden Leopold. I walked here in May 2022.

(Translated by Google) The Powder Tower in Konstanz, built in the 14th century, is an impressive testimony to the medieval city fortifications. With its 21 meters height and thick walls, it is the smallest of the remaining towers, but at the same time the one with the most fascinating history. Originally named the "Brick Tower" after the adjacent quarter, it later served as a weapons depot and was given the name "Powder Tower". In the Middle Ages it was even known as a prison for Jews, which is reflected in the name “Judenturm”. Despite being demolished in the 19th century, the Powder Tower remained intact, possibly thanks to the efforts of city councilor Ludwig Leiner. During the Second World War it served as a military bulwark. Today the tower houses the Niederburg fool's society and offers breathtaking views of the city. Visitors can climb the steep stairs and experience the unique atmosphere of this historic place.

(Translated by Google) Better pack some sandwiches. The prices are at the level of a motorway service station. The quality of the food we tried was abysmal. We found bits of plastic in the currywurst. The fries were soggy, and the meatloaf roll was also beyond good and evil. The currywurst, by the way, was a shredded bockwurst. I'm not expecting gourmet food here, but for this price, it should at least be decent.

(Translated by Google) The prices are relatively good. You're right by the lake! It's quick, and there's always a seat. However, the quality of the food is absolutely terrible. The salad was streaky and had brown spots, and the fish sticks were inedible. If you want more than just ice cream and drinks, go somewhere else.

Then I watched as the new fries were taken out of the packet with bare hands. The tables weren't even wiped down in between. My recommendation: self-catering at the beach!! You won't see me there anymore.

Service was great👍the crew were humorous and does suggestive selling. Food presentation was top notch, my only concern was, I'm not sure if the flower on the salad is edible as well 😁excuse my ignorance, but I had a stomach trouble afterwards and my coke was not so cold. Not serious, just a heads-up. Very nice and accessible location, restaurant ambiance is 5- star. Worth a visit.

Pros: - Good Pizza and nice service - Nice atmosphere with good background music - Decent pricing. Try the house wines. Things to improve: - Door was always open and little cold inside. Have a Jacket with you. - Service cleaned tables etc. 1h before official closing - Lights in the bathroom go out after few minutes.

Food was ok. Not that special that other restaurants don't serve. But what important is here a basic common sense on how to handle customers with respect and kindness. This is something this restaurants lacks. Worst service the waitress are so much in negative energy even if you eat that food you get that negativity and that negative vibes so its worst to go here and get negativity and get depressed. There's bitter place around to try out the food at very good prices and tasty. I do not recommend people to go here and get your mind wasted with negativity behaviour by the waitress. The way they treat you makes u feel shit.
