Waterfalls
Ban Jhakri Falls Park is a captivating sightseeing destination spread over two acres of land, located about 10-12 kilometers from Gangtok en route to Ranka monastery. The main attraction is the waterfall, which tumbles down from a rocky height of approximately 40 feet with great force. The park features beautifully landscaped gardens adorned with statues depicting the local culture and ancestors.
Visiting Ban Jhakri Falls with my family during the Durga Puja holiday was truly a heartwarming experience. After the festive chaos of pandal hopping, this place felt like a peaceful retreat where nature embraced us with open arms. The moment we heard the roar of the waterfall and felt the cool spray of water on our faces, all our tiredness vanished. Walking together through the garden paths, holding my daughter’s little hand, I felt grateful for the simple joy of being surrounded by greenery and fresh mountain air. She was excited at every turn—whether it was crossing a small bridge, spotting statues, or just running around the open space. Seeing her happiness made the trip extra special for us as parents. The waterfall itself is mesmerizing, and we spent long minutes just watching it, letting the sound of rushing water calm our minds. It almost felt like nature was offering us a blessing during this festive season. We clicked lots of family pictures, and each one carries not just a memory of the place but also of the togetherness we felt. Ban Jhakri Falls is not just a tourist spot, it’s a place that allows you to slow down and reconnect—with nature, with family, and with yourself. For us, it turned into one of the most memorable highlights of our Gangtok trip. If you’re traveling with loved ones, don’t miss this beautiful corner of Sikkim.

My Memorable Visit to Ban Jhakri Waterfall, Gangtok During my recent trip to Gangtok, one of the most memorable experiences was visiting the Ban Jhakri Waterfall. Tucked away in a beautifully forested area, this place felt like a slice of peace and power combined. As soon as I entered, I could hear the distant roar of the waterfall—it instantly made me excited. The entry fee is ₹50 per person, which I found very affordable for what the place offers. There's also parking available right near the entrance—convenient and spacious. The exact parking fee might depend on the vehicle, but it was reasonably priced i e ₹20-50 Before even entering the main waterfall area, there are several small shops and food stalls. I found some really good local snacks and souvenirs here, which added to the experience. It's perfect if you're looking to grab a bite or shop a little before heading in. Inside, the area is very well maintained. There are man-made walkways, charming bridges, and statues representing Sikkimese shamanic traditions—which made the place both cultural and educational. The waterfall itself was absolutely breathtaking. Standing near it, feeling the mist on my face, was so refreshing. It’s also a great photo spot, with greenery all around and the powerful water cascading down. Overall, I had a fantastic time at Ban Jhakri Waterfall. It’s a perfect mix of nature, culture, and relaxation—ideal for families, couples, or solo travelers. I’d definitely recommend including it in your Gangtok itinerary.

The waterfall is beautiful and the surroundings are green and peaceful, making it a nice place for a short nature break. It's a good spot for taking pictures and enjoying the fresh air. However, the ₹100 per person entry fee feels a bit too much for what’s offered. The pond area isn’t very clean, and apart from viewing the waterfall, there’s not much else to do. If they allowed access closer to the fall or included some light activities or better-maintained areas, it would feel more worth the cost. Overall, a decent visit — but there's definitely room for improvement.

Must Visit for everyone coming to Gangtok. A different experience as far as waterfalls and vicinity are made, kept and run elsewhere in India. Neat & clean with plenty of facilities to eat and enjoy. Highly recommend 👍

Gonjang Monastery, located near Tashi Viewpoint in Gangtok, is a serene and beautifully maintained Buddhist monastery belonging to the Nyingma tradition. Though relatively modern (established in 1981), it offers a peaceful spiritual atmosphere, stunning hilltop views, and vibrant Tibetan-style architecture. Inside, you'll find intricate murals, statues of various Buddhas, and a calm, meditative environment. The monastery also serves as a monastic school and houses a health care center for the local community, highlighting its social role. It's easily accessible by car and less crowded than more popular tourist spots, making it ideal for those seeking tranquility. However, food options nearby are very limited, so it's best to plan ahead. Morning visits are recommended for better views and quieter surroundings. While it may not have ancient history, its clean environment, spiritual significance, and scenic location make it a worthwhile stop during your trip to Gangtok.

This was the first monastery that we visited in Gangtok. The view from this place is mind-blowing. You see the Gangtok town and the entire valley. The main temple is very bright with many stories drawn on the walls. The decoration with colored clothes is excellent. If you can spare some time please spend some time in the temple. It is healing a quiet place away from the hustle bustle of modern life.

Bakthang Waterfall is a hidden gem in East Sikkim, offering a serene and less touristy experience compared to other attractions. Located just an hour's drive from Gangtok, this natural wonder originates from the river Ratey Chu and cascades down against the backdrop of the Eastern Himalayas. The roaring sound of the waterfall can be heard from a distance, adding to its allure. Surrounded by dense vegetation, it provides an ideal setting for a peaceful picnic.
• Located just 4–5 km from Gangtok, this accessible waterfall sits along NH-10 on the way to Tashi Viewpoint—perfect for a short detour or relaxing stop. • Monsoon or just after rains (June–September) is the best time to visit—the waterfall flows strong and majestic, creating a dramatic and refreshing scene. • Wide horizontal cascade, not a tall drop, gives it a graceful and gentle charm—wrapped by lush greenery and flowing into a shallow pool. Completely serene and photogenic. • A few tea stalls and cafes nearby offer hot drinks and snacks—nice little spots to rest and soak in the ambiance. • Parking and basic facilities are available, and you can even try a short rope-slide for a tiny thrill (around ₹100). ⸻ Visiting Bakthang Falls during the rainy season made it unforgettable—the water’s force was incredible. The location is peaceful, easily reached, and enhanced by nearby stalls and a sweet rope-slide. Loved the entire experience!

Tucked away just a few kilometers from the chaos (read: charm) of Gangtok, the Bakthang Waterfall* is like that soft-spoken friend at a party who doesn’t say much… but steals the spotlight anyway. Unlike the thundering drama of its flashier cousin Ban Jhakri, Bakthang whispers its way down a mossy cliff, offering serenity with a splash and a side of misty magic. First Things First – Where Are We? Located along the North Sikkim Highway, a breezy 3–4 km from Gangtok city center, Bakthang is often the first stop on the North Sikkim tour circuit. And trust me, it's a stellar opening act. The name "Bakthang" comes from the Lepcha words: "Bak" (forest) and "Thang" (field) – so yes, it’s literally a field of forest, and it looks every bit as enchanting. The Scene – Water, Weaves, and Wow! The waterfall, while not towering in height, is wide and graceful – think chiffon saree in a wind tunnel. Cascading down a rocky wall blanketed with ferns, it lands in a shallow basin, perfect for a quick foot dip or an impromptu dance number (yes, people *do* that). Local adventure lovers also run a zipline across the face of the falls. If you’ve ever wanted to channel your inner Tarzan with a GoPro, this is your moment. And guess what? Right near the falls, locals offer traditional Sikkimese attire photoshoots. Get dressed like royalty from the mountains and click pics with the falls as your royal backdrop – 100% filmy, 200% fun. Fun-Sized Facts: - Bakthang is fed by the Ratey Chu river, which also supplies water to much of Gangtok. - The waterfall is not too crowded, which makes it perfect for those looking to dodge touristy chaos. - It’s accessible even for senior citizens or folks who don’t want to trek a mile just to see a splash. My Personal Verdict: Bakthang isn’t about grandeur. It’s about grace. A serene, postcard-worthy pitstop that offers a mix of culture, calm, and quirky photo-ops.

Perched on a hill above Gangtok, Enchey Monastery is a vibrant Tibetan Buddhist site established in 1908. Alongside other revered monasteries like Rumtek, Ranka, Tashiding, Tsuk La Khang, and Pemayangste in the area, it holds great spiritual significance. Visitors seeking soulful experiences are drawn to this serene sanctuary for its breathtaking views of Gangtok and the majestic Kanchenjunga peak.
The monastery is from the 1840s as one of the writeup suggests, about 3 kms from the centre of Gangtok and going uphill. One can see some wonderful views of Gangtok along the way. The prayer hall has some beautiful windows carved with gorgeous colours as seen in one of the pictures. Inside the halls silence is to be maintained. A very peaceful and serene atmosphere and some place to relax as well. There is also a cafe near the entrance and some shops with handicrafts

During our trip to Gangtok, my friends and I visited the serene Enchey Monastery, a peaceful and spiritually enriching experience nestled amid the hills. The monastery, which belongs to the Nyingma order of Vajrayana Buddhism, exudes a calm atmosphere with its vibrant prayer flags, intricate murals, and the soft hum of chants in the background. Surrounded by lush greenery and offering panoramic views of Gangtok, the location itself feels sacred and removed from the hustle of the town. The main prayer hall is beautifully adorned with traditional Tibetan Buddhist art and statues, providing a glimpse into the region’s rich spiritual heritage. The monks were respectful and welcoming, allowing us to quietly observe their rituals without intrusion. Outside the monastery, there were several food stalls and small eateries catering to tourists. While the food options were decent—ranging from local momos and thukpa to more common snacks like noodles and tea—the prices were slightly on the higher side, likely due to the remote location and tourist traffic. However, the taste and freshness of the food made up for the cost to some extent. Overall, Enchey Monastery is a must-visit spot in Gangtok, especially for those seeking a spiritual retreat or an opportunity to experience Sikkimese culture.

Ganesh Tok is one of the most peaceful and charming spots in Gangtok. Located on a hilltop about 7 km from the town, this small temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha is as much about spirituality as it is about breathtaking views. The temple itself is very simple and serene. People often come here to offer prayers, tie colorful prayer flags, and enjoy a few quiet moments. Even though the temple is small, the energy around it feels calming. What really makes Ganesh Tok special is the panoramic view it offers. On a clear day, you can see the mighty Kanchenjunga range standing tall, along with sweeping views of Gangtok town and the lush valleys below. The place is also a photographer’s delight, especially early in the morning when the sun paints the mountains golden. The approach road is a little narrow, but it adds to the hill-station charm. The spot is well-maintained, with benches and viewpoints where you can sit back and soak in the beauty. There are also a few souvenir shops and tea stalls nearby, perfect for enjoying a hot cup while admiring the scenery. For families, it is a safe and light outing. The temple is easy to access, and even kids enjoy the colorful atmosphere. It’s not a place where you spend hours, but the combination of spirituality, culture, and natural beauty makes it worth visiting. Ganesh Tok is definitely one of those must-stop points when exploring Gangtok.

I experience Very peaceful and positive spiritual vibe at Ganesh tok during my visit. Temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesh. It is small temple on hill top surrounded by serene nature.

Ganesh Tok is a Hindu temple and a popular viewpoint located on a ridge in Gangtok, Sikkim. It is known for its panoramic views of the entire Gangtok town, the rolling hills, and the majestic Kanchenjunga and Mt. Siniolchu mountain ranges. The complex includes a circular viewing lounge and a balcony that offer exceptional views of the surrounding natural beauty. It is a popular spot for photography, especially during clear weather.

We began our Sikkim tour at this small Lord Ganesh temple on the hills. The place is scenic, beautiful, peaceful, and spiritual, with a stunning view of Gangtok city. It’s a picture-perfect location, surrounded by natural beauty. Don’t miss clicking a photo in traditional Sikkim costume dress here!

The atmosphere was wonderful. One could actually feel the positivity which is present in a divine place. The state flower of Sikkim could be seen everywhere. They were a couple of tourists getting there picture clicked with the traditional dresses of this place. I would suggest everyone to try to look at the wonderful sceneries as well. One could see the whole Gangtok from up there. There are a few shops outside the temple, they offer aesthetic items as well apart from the offerings for worship.

Outdoor Activities
Nestled in a sprawling 230-hectare forested hill, Sikkim Himalayan Zoological Park is a haven for nature and wildlife enthusiasts. The park is home to various animals including the adorable Red Panda, Bengal tigers, black panthers, Himalayan Black Bears, Clouded Leopards, and more. Visitors can explore the fenced areas on foot or opt for a half-day car tour. Additionally, the park offers stunning views of Mount Khangchendzonga.
This is a very well maintained garden with a lot of varieties of flowers. This place is known for its rhododendron collection. You get them in all colors. I was mesmerized by the flower collection. It would be great if they can have a functional cafe but the stalls outside serve great tea and momos. We also bought a shawl from there and it was good quality.
Ashish P — Google review
The zoo offers a pleasant experience, especially for those interested in Himalayan wildlife. However, it tends to get quite crowded on weekends and holidays, which can affect the overall enjoyment. While the existing exhibits are engaging, there's significant scope for improvement — particularly in expanding the variety of animals and adding more to the aquatic life to enrich the visitor experience.
Viresh G — Google review
Wild, natural, cozy, and simply beautiful. Yet frequent rains might hamper animals from coming out of their cage/safe spots, thus making it a flora visit instead of a fauna visit
David T — Google review
The Sikkim Himalayan Zoological Park is located in Bulbuley, about 3 to 6 kilometers from Gangtok. Set across a vast forested hillside, the park focuses on preserving Himalayan wildlife in large, naturalistic enclosures. It also offers spectacular views of the Khangchendzonga mountain range. You can drive your own vehicle, but be prepared for a fee. The drive up the hillside offers beautiful scenery.

Nice place . People can take their own car inside but still expect quite a bit of walking to see the animals.

Located in Gangtok, the Sikkim Himalayan Zoological Park is one of the few high-altitude zoos in India. 🐾 Wildlife Experience The zoo is home to several rare and endangered Himalayan species, making it a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers. Key Highlights: • Red Panda: The star attraction of the park; if you’re lucky, you might spot one among the trees. • Snow Leopard: One of the rarest sights, often spotted in their enclosure at higher altitudes. • Himalayan Black Bear, Himalayan Monal, Tibetan Wolf, Goral, and Barking Deer – all adapted to the cold and mountainous terrain. • Birdlife: From pheasants to blood pheasants and partridges, birdwatchers will find this park rewarding. 🕒 Time Required • The park is extensive and spread out over hilly terrain. • Minimum 2–3 hours are required to explore it comfortably, but to fully enjoy the environment, spot animals, take photos, and relax in nature, set aside 4–5 hours. 🌤️ Weather & Atmosphere • Cool and Misty throughout the year, especially in the mornings and late afternoons • Carry a light jacket or raincoat, as the weather can shift rapidly. ❌ Cons • The terrain is steep in places, not ideal for the elderly or those with mobility issues. • Wildlife sightings can be sparse depending on weather and time of day. • Not easily accessible via public transport – best visited with a taxi or personal vehicle.

The Zoo is Vast and needs a Walk. The State Animal cana be Seen Along with National Bird, Common Leopard, Clouded Leopard. HIMALAYAN Black Bear and other smaller Mammals and Birds.
Anup A — Google review
During my trip to Gangtok, visiting the Sikkim Himalayan Zoological Park turned out to be a really refreshing experience. Unlike most zoos, this one felt more like a walk through a forest where animals live in large, natural enclosures instead of cramped cages. The moment I entered, the calmness of the place and the fresh mountain air made it feel like I was on a nature trek rather than in a zoo. The highlight for me was seeing the red panda. Watching it move around in its space was such a treat, especially since it’s rare to spot them in the wild. I also came across snow leopards, Himalayan black bears, and Tibetan wolves, each housed in surroundings that looked very close to their natural habitat. My daughter enjoyed spotting the different birds and deer along the way, and the walk itself—through winding paths under tall pine and oak trees—was equally enjoyable. What I liked most was that the park didn’t feel overcrowded or commercial. It gave us time to slow down, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy nature while also learning about the animals of the Himalayas. It’s a bit of a walk inside, so wearing comfortable shoes really helps, but honestly, the walk itself adds to the experience. Overall, visiting this park was peaceful and memorable. If you’re in Gangtok with family, especially kids, I’d definitely recommend it as a must-do activity.

Coffee shop
Cafe Fiction is a popular spot in Gangtok, located in the heart of MG Marg. It offers an inviting atmosphere and a diverse menu that combines continental and Indian cuisines. This cozy cafe is beloved by both locals and tourists, offering everything from savory momos to creamy pasta dishes. The cafe is also known for its strong espresso, making it a must-visit for coffee enthusiasts.
Literally a book lovers paradise. A hidden gem for book lovers and coffee enthusiasts! This bookstore café has the perfect ambiance—quiet, cozy, and filled with the comforting aroma of freshly brewed coffee. The selection of books is thoughtfully curated, making it easy to find something special to read. The staff is friendly, and the seating is ideal for unwinding with a book or getting some work done. Whether you're looking for a peaceful escape, a good read, or just a great cup of coffee, this place is a must-visit!" Definitely try their Chicken Sandwich and Hot chocolate.

So much to love @Cafe Fiction. Well brewed Coffees & teas, w smart menu of freshly cooked local and western foods and a friendly helpful team. The bonus? A well-curated bookstore upstairs. Highly recommend — must visit for coffee, books and a genuinely welcoming local feel.

If you like books and good coffee, and in a small portion specially, come here. The food is also great. Had eggs, french toast, and a grilled cheese sandwich. Cherry on the top is the quiet vibe and a bookstore. They also had 'blind date with a book'. Interesting idea!
Akshit G — Google review
The place truly justifies the name- café fiction. It is straight out of pages that describes a small café with some awesome collection of books. This place in gangtok will give you some romance in a dull day. However, I have never heard of a faded day in Gangtok. Thier ground floor has café where you can order and dine, with a dash of rustic vibe. On the first floor is a bookshop, where you can also sit and work. What I enjoyed the most here is the backyard of cafe. there is a narrow water fall and they have arranged a few furniture for people to work, chill, and chat. Isn't it a dream to work amid the sound of waterfall and chirping bird 🐦? The owner was generous enough to share the wi-fi password and recommend some books. I didn't find much food option from the menu, may be it was not my day. Also, it was easy to locate. Had there be more tables in the backyard, would have been nicer.

Wonderful cafe with good service and coffee. Interestingly - the coffees costs MORE than the food (eg French Toast = 150 INR ; Flat white 230 INR)!! Bit noisy on the street, no view. The west has clearly influenced Sikkimese society (eg smart phones, fashion, music, food), but indirectly via media/internet without any direct influence, as I’ve seen no Westerners in the entire town. Society seems therefore to have assimilated Western culture in its own peculiar way.

Being from Melbourne Australia, it's difficult to find a coffee that hits the spot. This place has such good coffee, probably the best I have had on my month long trip of India. The coffee is so good and tastes great! If you are looking for a good coffee, for sure you need to come here.

I have been coming to this place everyday for my regular breakfast, the staff Kalash, phurmit and others are extremely polite. Everything for breakfast is nearly perfect. A small library upstairs has a good collection. The cafe is right opposite to department of culture. In house bakery they make their own stuff. Cappuccino is great and Vietnamese coffee is fantastic.

Lhasa Newar, a relatively new establishment on Lower Luing Road, has quickly gained a dedicated following. The restaurant offers an array of authentic Newari and Tibetan dishes, as well as Italian cuisine and English breakfast options. This diverse menu makes it ideal for groups with varying tastes. Visitors can also enjoy the unique experience of creating their own pizza at the live pizza corner. The restaurant's ambiance is described as cool yet relaxed, with friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Maybe a little away from the main city area but absolutely worth the visit. The cosy ambience with view of the valley and the waterfall right next to it makes this place really charming. Food is top notch as well and staff is really polite.

Food was very average. Lot of the things on the menu weren't available (even basics like pizza, burger etc.). Servers were very very courteous and even narrated interesting stories from the area. But they were not very attentive and informed about their own menu. Ours was the only table and yet they forgot things from our order. It's a small cozy restaurant and the vibe was fine

A place for the cool kids. The interiors are chic and modern, and the brown tones does wonders for the greenery in Gangtok. It's located in a less-frequented part of Gangtok, so you will have to drive/ride for a bit if you're staying in the central part of Gangtok. Not too far, though. They also offer rooms, but again, it's not centrally located, so you won't have access to other restaurants and shops. The menu is quite diverse with Tibetan and Nepali dishes, a range of pizzas, tea and coffee, and a selection of alcoholic drinks. I ordered a plate of beef steamed momos (Rs. 240) and chicken shyapta (Rs. 240) along with Ginger Lemon Tea (Rs. 120). The food was satisfactory. If you are visiting in a group, try getting the table with the French windows.

The food was lip smacking; however, it took them more than hour to prepare. The staff was friendly though.

Authentic and good food. I was disappointed with the Pizza. I would suggest to have the Nepali/Bhutani cuisine if you want to experience good quality local food. The service and ambience is definitely premium and great! The proprietor was sweet to mention the culture and story behind the place. Would recommend to anyone looking for a more premium experience as it definitely is expensive.

Lhasa Newar isn't just your regular restaurant – it's a cultural journey wrapped in dining bliss. The vibe here? Think of it as being in this vibrant classroom where you're not just eating; you're soaking in the rich flavors of Newar and Tibetan cultures through every bite, decor piece, and the way the staff treats you. Every corner tells a story adorned with authentic wall art and artifacts that serve as windows into the rich heritage of these regions. And let me tell you, having a meal here isn't just about devouring tasty food. It's like getting a crash course in the history and traditions behind these amazing dishes. What's cool is how the staff goes out of their way to chat about the food and cultural tidbits. It's like they're inviting you to dive deeper into this whole cultural experience. And hey, making our own pizzas was a highlight! It took the fantastic cuisine up a notch. But it's not just about what's on your plate; it's about soaking up the vibe of this beautiful place. The staff's friendly vibes and their eagerness to share insights about the dishes made it all feel so genuine.

The menu is so beautifully curated. I loved the spread. The fire wood pizza was 🔥. Overall it's very beautifully done. The precision in details can be seen. Its a must visit cafe in Gangtok.

The Thuendel is a great place to go for a party. It's got an affordable price and the environment is totally cool. The music is good and it's mostly occupied with good live bands.
Elegant bar and restaurant in an out-of-the-way location, quiet in the afternoons and open quite late for dinner. They also have plenty of outdoor seating, under a covered porch so you can enjoy your Kingfisher and watch the rain. The menu includes vegetarian and non-vegetarian western fare, Indian, and Chinese dishes. Full bar including some decent whiskies.

The worst place to eat in Gangtok. The orders take too long and the waiters are very rude. I literally had to wait for 40 minutes and more for one order. The waiter kept saying 5 minutes or asked us go wait for some more time. I think that place needs a clock everywhere so that alteast they'll know what 5 minutes and 40 minutes actually means. We didn't even get our food at the end and had to leave. All we got was water. Highly NOT recommended. This is the most honest review I've given about this place.

Korean restaurant
Mu Kimchi is a Korean restaurant located in Gangtok, known for its authentic cuisine and stunning ambiance. The interior features original bamboo ceilings, hand-woven lamps, and contemporary minimalism, creating a unique atmosphere. Climbing over 80 steps to reach the cozy corner on the fourth floor is well worth it. The menu offers authentic Korean dishes such as bulgogi kimbap, Korean barbecue, and fried chicken.
While in gangtok, must visit this restaurant. Authentic korean. Environment is awesome. Mainly local people goes there. Every sine dish is tasty. Staff behavior is really good and price is affordable compared to any other korean restaurant. Straight route from mg marg. Just follow the map.

A somewhat disappointing dining experience. The restaurant is quite dark, and only the table where customers are seated is lit. so you end up eating in a dim space with just your table illuminated. It took around 40 minutes for all the dishes to arrive, and even after 1 hour and 20 minutes, the doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) still hadn’t been served, so I had to cancel it in the end. The pork belly was thin, almost like bacon. The staff mostly focus on the outdoor tables and are stationed far away, so if you need anything, you’ll have to stop eating and go look for someone yourself. The prices aren’t particularly cheap, and I get the feeling that the issues stem from a lack of staff overall.
Donggeon K — Google review
Im sorry but your lettuce was out of stock whilst the samgyup sal was already ordered. The course took nearly an hour to arrive and somewhat 2mins prior to arriving , the waiter came up to us to give us the last minute update (lettuce is out of stock so we have served you cabbages) Kindly tutor your staffs that a cabbage can not be a substitute for a lettuce in any way, specially if its for the making of a korean bbq! Anyways, we couldnt be rude to him sp went with whatever was served. The beverage was self suggested by the waiter too. I would never recommend it. It would’ve been a self invented mocktail but my request to atleast strain the pulp or the skin out, specially if its a cucumber/ginger based drink. I wouldnt want my drink to give me textures of uninvited pulps.

Go for the Korean barbeque set here because its unlike any other you will experience. Every other restaurant in Gangtok sells ramen, tottenboki, kimbaps, bulgogi and bibimbaps. The speciality here are its bbq for which they have custom made tables with a stove grill where you can cook your meat and vegetables yourself for the complete experience. They have Soju which is a good thing. If you must eat anything other than the bbq you can try the Budajige noodles (don't always go with ramen!), hot stone rice and Kimchi fried rice for a safe option.

Every time I visit Gangtok (my hometown) there is something new happening. And so this time, I was excited to see the all new Ridg Park, which was also a flower exibition centre earlier. It is still understand construction. However, there is a good enough place to take pictures and walk around. I do miss the old construction, but we need to go along with the newness. You might see some additional decoration, it was done during the inauguration. 19th October 2025 Now the construction is over. You will find a lot many pictures... Brand new flower exhibition centre - filled with variety of orchids and also has all the heritage information and items displayed; with latest design and technology. It kept me wondering about the rich flora of our state. You will have to pay Rs. 250 for tickets (not sure whether it is different for tourist). Every one should visit once.....

The Deltin Denzong is a popular casino in Gangtok and does attract a sizable crowd of patrons to the casino floor. We were a group of four who dropped in sometime after 9pm (got delayed due to heavy downpour). We had to wait close to 20mins to check in and pay for our package as there was another group in front of us that was being processed by the staff. The game floor has a counter where you pay cash in exchange for coins that you can then use at the game tables. The same counter also cashes out your coins in the end. At the table, you can order your choice of alcohol (as per package; they give you a wrist band for identification) and snacks. As long as you are playing, you can continue to order alcohol and snacks. From time to time, performers come on as part of the entertainment experience. The biggest disappointment of the night was the dinner. It was around 11:30 when we headed to the restaurant and most of the food trays were either empty or close to empty. I guess that could be attributed to the time as the kitchen would be closing by then. Kindly note they do provide complimentary pickup and drop service so commuting to and from the casino is not a hassle. Also - photography on the casino floors is not permitted. Although their website advertises a "celestial experience consisting of fascinating blend of opulence, dazzling entertainment and gourmet cuisine" the overall experience felt pretty okay.

The Gangtok Ropeway is a must-try experience for anyone visiting this vibrant city. This cable car ride connects Deorali Bazaar to Tashiling Secretariat, offering passengers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the picturesque cityscape below. As you ascend, you'll be treated to breathtaking panoramas that include lush green valleys and the majestic Kanchenjunga range. The journey may not be lengthy, but it’s filled with excitement for both children and adults alike.
The cable cars were clean and well maintained and the ride felt safe and smooth throughout. The ride offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire city. On a clear day, you can even catch a glimpse of the distant snow capped peaks.

Took the Gangtok ropeway with my husband—thought it’d be a peaceful ride, but they packed us in like it was a sky-high local train! 😅 The price was on the higher side too. We could barely move or click pictures properly. But once we looked out… wow! The view was absolutely amazing and totally worth all the chaos.
Sumana B — Google review
Our little family adventure in Gangtok wouldn't have been complete without a ride on the famous ropeway! I was a bit hesitant with our baby girl, but the experience was incredibly smooth and safe. The cabins are clean and well-maintained, and we felt secure the entire time. The moment we started ascending, any worries melted away. The view is simply spectacular. You float silently over the bustling streets, with the most stunning panorama of the city nestled against the majestic Kanchenjunga mountains unfolding before you. My wife kept pointing out different landmarks, and our baby was absolutely mesmerized, her little eyes wide with wonder, trying to take it all in. It was a truly magical family moment we'll cherish. If I had to point out one thing, I'd say the ticket price felt a little overpriced for the duration of the ride. It's over before you know it, and for a family of three, the cost adds up. You're definitely paying for the unique view and the experience itself. That being said, was it worth it for us? Absolutely. For that brief, beautiful ride where the three of us were huddled together, sharing in the awe of Gangtok's beauty, it was priceless. We left with big smiles and fantastic photos. We'd recommend it to other families as a one-time splurge for a memory you won't forget. Just be prepared for the ticket cost!
Sarthak D — Google review
The best way to use this ropeway (if you are staying near MG road market, Gangtok) is to take a two way ticket (one way cost is same) the ropeway downwards and then visit the popular monasteries nearby and then take the ropeway back to MG road. Gives and overall view of the way to main market Gangtok and around.
Nitish N — Google review
If you are visiting gangtok, don’t miss it, the view from the ropeway is spectacular, you can see the valleys, the city, everything in bird’s eye prospective, and when we visited some works were going on, but it was still operational, it was very safe and everyone can enjoy regardless of ages, the staff will accompany us during the ride, as i understood that there is two ticketing options available, oneway ticket and two way tickets, and one cabin can carry 24 people as they said, so for a medium sized group of people can easily accommodate, I suggest you to visit after noon, in gangtok the sun will set early, so you should plan your trip early to get better view, if there is crowd you will have to wait and you may miss the daylight view, which is the best, we got the sunset from the cable car and that was a life time experience,
Mohammed S — Google review
It seemed like locals actually use this ropeway as a part of their daily commute. There was even a monthly pass option, while I just took a one way ride. The boarding process is a bit unusual. everyone waits at ground level first, then again at the ropeway station. But the view from up here is absolutely stunning. Riding slowly uphill along the steep slopes of Gangtok, Can enjoy a unique view of the busy streets and lush green forests. A beautiful experience.
Donggeon K — Google review
Marvellous engineering structure with a ropeway running above the main roads of Gangtok. They offer both single way and double way trips, but there is some slot availability regarding the one way trips which is not very clear for the tourists. Prefer booking in advance to avoid long waiting times. Typically crowded. The cabins of the ropeway are huge as can hold upto 16 people. There are no seats and a staff accompanied you in the trip. They restrict you from moving inside the cabin. The view outside is very nice and a good way to explore the beauty of the city.
Pavethira S — Google review
Gangtok is beautiful in the sense that people generations past and currently as well, have developed an efficient system of hairpin curves along which resorts, shops and houses are constructed with breathtaking alignment and aesthetics. It's a view to behold from a cable car, and so it's an opportunity indeed. However the path chosen is rather too far from the view that you'd probably need a professional camera to capture the beauty that extends till the curtain of fog.

My visit to Hanuman Tok in Sikkim was nothing short of magical. As a devoted follower of Lord Hanuman, this place held immense spiritual significance for me. Nestled at an altitude of about 7,200 feet, Hanuman Tok is not just a temple—it’s a peaceful haven that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges and a serene atmosphere for inner reflection. I visited with my friends, and together we spent around two hours there, soaking in the divine energy and scenic beauty. The drive up to the temple was beautiful, with winding roads surrounded by lush greenery and crisp mountain air. Upon reaching, we were greeted by the majestic statue of Lord Hanuman, standing tall and powerful, instilling a deep sense of peace and devotion. The temple complex is immaculately maintained by the Indian Army, which adds to its charm and sanctity. The panoramic view of Gangtok city from the temple grounds is absolutely stunning, and the quiet environment made it perfect for prayer and meditation. We spent our time exploring the temple, offering prayers, and simply sitting in silence to feel the divine connection. Being there was an emotional and uplifting experience for me. As a big devotee of Lord Hanuman, I felt truly blessed and spiritually recharged. It was a memorable journey shared with close friends, and Hanuman Tok now holds a special place in my heart. I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking peace, devotion, and natural beauty.

Hanuman Tok in Gangtok is one of those places that leaves a lasting impression, not just for its religious significance but also for the peace it offers. Located a little away from the main city, the ride uphill itself feels refreshing, with winding roads and clear mountain air. The temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman, and even though it’s not a huge complex, the simplicity adds to its charm. What struck me most was the calmness here. Unlike crowded temples, Hanuman Tok feels serene, almost meditative. The prayer chants playing softly in the background blend perfectly with the cool breeze and surrounding greenery. From the temple courtyard, you get a breathtaking panoramic view of Gangtok and, on a clear day, the majestic Kanchenjunga range. Standing there and soaking in the scenery felt like a spiritual moment in itself. The place is very well maintained by the army, and you can sense the discipline in the neat walkways, clean surroundings, and peaceful atmosphere. I also appreciated how safe and family-friendly it felt. My daughter enjoyed running around the open spaces while we sat quietly, taking in the views. I’d suggest visiting in the morning for a clearer view of the mountains, though evenings have their own charm with the fading light. Whether you come here for devotion or just to breathe in peace away from the city rush, Hanuman Tok won’t disappoint. It’s not just a temple visit, but a soulful experience in Gangtok.

The stadium is currently home to United Sikkim Football Club and has a seating capacity of 25,000 people! 2001 saw the stadium grow to its best as it embraced modern amenities and included a VIP section, Hostel accommodation and an indoor Basketball hall among many other additions. And it is also said to be the largest stadium in Gangtok. Today the stadium has become an important venue for not only hosting sports but also for conducting public meetings and other important social events. The stadium is best experienced during a home-team match when the whole place echoes the cheers of the fans.

I absolutely adore visiting this cafe, and it's all thanks to Lucas and Aditya's captivating singing performances! Their talent adds an extra layer of magic to the already delightful atmosphere. Not to mention, the food is consistently delicious, and the ambience is just perfect for a cozy evening out. Lucas and Aditya truly elevate the entire experience, making each visit unforgettable.

It was a decent pub experience. The live band - The Evolution playing on Saturday night was really good with their eclectic mix of english, nepali and hindi numbers keeping the crowd thoroughly entertained. One should reserve tables beforehand or come in early before the live music starts if the want seating near the bar. The non veg platter we ordered was good enough and can feed more than two with drinks. The price is fair as compared to most other restaurants in Gangtok and the portions were large. There are two seperate smoking areas on the pub side and on the restaurant side. The servers were helpful and polite and the Saturday night crowd was a good mix of tourists, locals, students, couples, solo women gangs as well as families. Good for a night out thought they wrap up by 10.30 pm.

Friendly staff and Nice ambience with live music from Local band. Place offers a mix of local and north Indian snacks and decent variety of drinks along local beer and hookah. Excellent place to spend an evening being 5 min walk up from MG road. One improvement could be increase the variety of drinks.

I was recommended this place by a friend. Just went ahead with the recommendation without any expectation. The place just turned to be an amazing evening. The band was awesome, the music was one notch loud, but still enjoyed it. They sung well, the crowd was highly elated with the music. We ordered for a mock tail and some local beer. Which was light and good. For main course we ordered for Shanghai fried rice along with a fish side dish and a veg side dish. The taste was just perfect and the quantity was good for two. The bill along with all these things came to round about 1100-1200. A good music and mountains and company what else can one ask for

Over rated. Local groups play here. There was an entry fee of Rs 300/- per person. Chaotic service. Only fried food and dominantly nonvegetarian food. Their dinner menu is different. Staff forgot the order after repeating three times. Not friendly to ears.

THE DANKEST CAFE OF ALL TIME. yeah, you read it correctly. The DANKEST cafe in India. This place is usually dark. The vibe is just best in class. The food is quite good too. There are live performances in Wednesday to Friday night. The posters are amazing. They also have a projector screen for live sports. One of the best cafe in Gangtok

Must Visit! I visited the Black Cat Museum in Gangtok on 04 Jul 2025, and I was genuinely impressed. It’s a small museum but packed with powerful stories, rare artifacts, and a unique glimpse into Sikkim’s military history and the role of the legendary Black Cat Division of the Indian Army. The layout is clean and modern, and the audio guide (₹20) added so much value—every exhibit came to life with context and emotion. From the brave accounts of past battles to the cultural heritage of Sikkim, it felt both informative and personal. I especially loved the interactive selfie room, the souvenir shop, and the cozy army-run café—perfect for a quick coffee break. The museum staff was polite and helpful, and everything was thoughtfully presented. It’s not a massive place—you can see it in about 30–45 minutes—but it’s absolutely worth your time. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a curious traveler, or someone who appreciates the armed forces, this place leaves you with a sense of pride and respect. Highly recommended. Don’t miss it if you’re in Gangtok!

The road to theinstitute is very peaceful. The building structure is beautiful. Well maintained with few artefacts. Unlike big museums where it takes so long to look at them and read them, here the museums has limited artefacts which makes it easy to read and move. The museum has manuscripts on display. Stories about Buddhism, the history and evolution. The surrounding are kept very clean and it’s a very peaceful place. There is a small cafe outside the campus where you get tea, coffee, muffins and maggie. The museum compound had a souvenir store. Things available there are at reasonable price. The entry is ticketed at Rs.25

Terrible Stay - Avoid at All Costs! This hotel was a profoundly disappointing experience. Our room was plagued by an unbearable foul odor, likely from a "mat potty." The room itself was old, worn, and visibly dirty, with stained bedsheets and pillows. There was also active leakage on the wall. The food was unhygienic and low quality. This hotel falls far short of a 3-star rating. Avoid at all costs!

Deeply Disappointing Stay - Avoid This Hotel! Our recent experience at this hotel was profoundly disappointing and fell far short of any reasonable expectation, let alone a 3-star rating. From the moment we entered our assigned room, we were met with an unbearable and pervasive foul odor, seemingly originating from a "mat potty" present in the room. This stench permeated the entire floor and made our stay immediately unpleasant. Beyond the overwhelming smell, the general condition of the room was appalling. Everything felt old, worn, and neglected. The bedsheets and pillows were visibly dirty, raising serious hygiene concerns and making us question the overall cleanliness of the establishment. Adding to the misery, there was active leakage on the room wall, a clear indication of significant disrepair and lack of maintenance. The issues didn't end with the room. The food served was unhygienic and of very low quality, further compounding our negative experience. Based on the unacceptable state of our room, the pervasive odors, the lack of cleanliness, and the poor quality of the food, we can unequivocally say that this hotel does not meet the standards of a 3-star establishment. Our stay was truly unpleasant, and we would strongly advise others to avoid this hotel to prevent a similarly disappointing experience.

DO NOT STAY at Hotel Snow Lion, Gangtok. This was the most disgusting and disturbing hotel experience I’ve ever had. The room was in a horrifying condition – filthy bedsheets, foul smell, spider webs all over the walls and ceiling, and to top it off, actual human potty on the bathroom door mat. That’s not just dirty, that’s inhumane. It’s clear they do not clean or even inspect the rooms before handing them over. The bathroom was moldy and stinking, clearly untouched for days. The food was just as bad – unhygienic, tasteless, and made me feel sick. Nothing about this hotel is safe or comfortable. The staff was rude and completely unbothered when we complained. This is not a hotel – it’s a health hazard. Staying here was a huge mistake. If you value your health and peace of mind, stay far away from this place. I genuinely believe this hotel should be shut down by authorities.

🚨🚨DONT EVER STEP INSIDE THIS MESS EVER 🚨🚨 to be honest , I felt exhausted here. Actually my brother recommended me a nice rated restuarant, which me dumb ignored and went straight here because of my mom. Now when we entered, the interior was not TOO good and don't ask about waiters , just imagine you are in a cheap restaurant and some random kid is coming to u for menu and food orders, because these waiters have no formality in their behaviour/manner. I just needed to pay online and he didn't even bring the scanner , pointed like am a general poor dude came out of nowhere. Don't ask for food because here forget about salt , they don't even give appropriate amount of spices or salts. Eating my paneer from a small sized so called "maharaja thali" felt like eating a pastry sweetness level. If u wanna go to a worth it restaurant, i recommend to check top rated restuarants in maps , or just go to " punjabi masala " The good reviews are just old , and recent are so correct 💯 Moral : " don't have a thought only from good interior

The rooftop restaurant/lounge boasts a fantastic location, just 50 meters from SMU campus. During our light dinner visit, we were delighted by the small river channel flowing beneath, offering a calming ambiance. The attentive and well-trained staff ensured our instructions were carefully followed and conveyed to the chef. We ordered Veg Khao Suey and Chicken Khao Suey, accompanied by Peach Iced Tea, and were pleasantly surprised by the delicious taste of the Khao Suey dishes. If you're in the area, this experience is definitely worth a try. #gangtok #rooftoplounge #rooftoprestaurants #multi-cusine #restaurantsnearsnu #sikkim

The ambience is really cool. Courteous staff. Food is good but a bit pricey. Nicely decorated with open air.

Ambience was really good, service was good too, drinks was bit pricey..!! Talking about the food, I had fish and chips, it taste ok first but after sometime I had a bad stomach..!! Something was just not right..!! It may be because of stale fish or the oil used was not fresh..!! Please make sure to check every food items with utmost diligence and follow proper food safety standards..!! At the end if people don't have good experience with food others things don't matter much..!!

Chalet Orchid Eco Retreat

Hotel
Chalet Orchid Eco Retreat is a budget-friendly accommodation located just 3 km from MG Marg in Gangtok. The retreat offers rooms with stunning views of the snow-clad peaks and lush forests. It's a perfect place for nature lovers seeking tranquility, away from the bustling crowd. Guests can easily arrange local transportation to MG Marg. Visitors have praised the friendly staff, spacious and clean rooms, top-notch amenities, and delicious food at the hotel restaurant.
A very nice place to stay in Gangtok. If you want to spend quality time with nature and love the quiescent, this place is highly recommended. But those people love the crowd this location is not recommended as this place is located around 3 kM away from MG Marg. Though within 5 minutes a local taxi with decent cost can be arranged by the stuff. Rooms 10/10 Location 10/10 Service 10/10 Food 10/10 Cleaning 9/10 This is my recommendation after visiting 9th and 10th June.

Room services were good. Cleanliness was also positive.. Food is awesome and the best thing is water of that place...
Amit D — Google review
The rooms were clean and the ambience is good but the location is deep in the forest. You have to pay a huge sum to get to MG Marg. Staffs were good but they weren't cleaning the dinning area properly, water jugs had flies in them. They would charge exorbitant price for food and quantity is very less. The complimentary breakfast was just bread and butter, not even boiled eggs. Not worth the money I have spent.

Our visit to Gangtok was made memorable by our stay at Retreat Hotel & Spa. Staffs were cooperative and humble. Services was also very good. Rooms were clean, well maintained. Food options were good enough. No problem whatsoever, highly recommend this place.I love the waterfall near hotel it's small but beautiful with pleasant sound.

Nice place to stay in Gangtok. Ambience is great, food delicious and location very nice. Rooms are neat and clean. The hotel is situated amidst natural surrounding. View is great. Staff is very helpful and polite. Would highly recommended this hotel for Nature lovers.

The property was good with good rooms and good view. But the only thinking lacking was when i had come there was no proper breakfast. There was only one person who was managing the whole hotel including, housekeeping and kitchen and cause of that the breakfast was not good at all. Got served burnt toast. No dinner too so we had to go sll the way to mg marg just to have dinner. I think the hotel needs more staff to run the hotel other than that its a very nice property and the stay was very peaceful.

What makes this hotel special is it's locality and the view around it. Situated at a decent distance from the City center, Chalet Orchid provides a Tranquil atmosphere with a scenic view of the great place, Gangtok. Rooms are spacious and clean with a Home-Like feeling. Stayed here in the month of May, 2019. I could not ask for anything better.

Rooms are not good. Bed size also small. Location of hotel is also far away from city centre. When we book rooms Property owner doesn't give room as per our actual booking like deluxe room. They allot different rooms then our bookings. Reception service is not also good. We have to wait 1 hour for our chek in. Also bath towel, drinking water bath soap not provided at our time of chek in. Find room booking details. We have booked superior family rooms and at the time of check in owner had given different rooms.
