Hindu temple
Sights & Landmarks
Sacred & Religious Sites
Nestled along the serene banks of the Bagmati River, Pashupatinath Temple stands as a revered symbol of Hindu spirituality and culture. This iconic temple, rebuilt in the 15th century, is dedicated to Lord Shiva and features stunning pagoda-style architecture adorned with gilt roofing and intricately carved silver doors. As one of the holiest sites for Hindus worldwide, it attracts countless pilgrims, especially during significant festivals like Shivaratri.
Pashupatinath Mandir is a truly spiritual sanctuary! I visited in August 2024, and despite it being the monsoon season, the experience was profoundly moving. The atmosphere within the temple premises is simply divine, filled with a palpable positive energy. The sky and natural surroundings were incredibly beautiful, adding to the serene ambiance. Watching the devotional fervor of the devotees was inspiring. This temple offers a unique spiritual connection that truly resonates. A must-visit for anyone seeking peace and cultural immersion.

A Sacred and Soulful Place – Pashupatinath Temple Pashupatinath Temple is truly a holy and spiritual place, especially for us Nepalese. As a devoted follower of Lord Shiva, this temple holds a very special place in my heart. I make it a point to visit every year, whenever I get the chance. The atmosphere is peaceful yet powerful, and it carries deep meaning for every Hindu who visits. The ancient architecture, the sacred river, the chants, and the overall energy make this temple not just a religious site, but a place where you feel spiritually connected. It’s a blessing to have such a divine place in Nepal.
Sanjaya S — Google review
One of the holiest places for Hindus, and an Unesco World Heritage site. It's a big religious complex, and also a cremation site. Entrance fee for foreigners is 1000 nepalese rupees.
Balázs K — Google review
A deeply spiritual and powerful place. Pashupatinath Temple is one of the holiest shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, with incredible energy that you can feel the moment you step in. The temple’s architecture is stunning, with intricate wooden carvings and golden roofs that reflect centuries of devotion and history.
Prerana M — Google review
Visiting Pashupatinath Temple is not just about entering a sacred site—it feels like stepping into a space where time slows down and spirituality surrounds you from every direction. The moment you arrive, the peaceful flow of the Bagmati River, the soft sound of bells, and the rhythmic chants of priests create an atmosphere that instantly calms the mind.
Sambriddhi S — Google review
Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu, Nepal, is one of the holiest shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and holds a special place among Hindu devotees worldwide. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this temple is not just a place of worship but also a symbol of faith, culture, and spiritual heritage. The temple stands beautifully on the banks of the Bagmati River and is built in the traditional pagoda style with a golden roof, silver-plated doors, and intricately carved wooden pillars. The atmosphere here is filled with the sound of bells, chants, and the fragrance of incense, making the entire complex feel divine and peaceful. One of the unique aspects of Pashupatinath is the Bagmati ghats, where Hindu cremation rituals take place daily. It is a powerful reminder of the cycle of life and death, much like the experience in Varanasi. The presence of sadhus in colorful attire and painted faces adds a cultural and spiritual charm to the place. The best time to visit is during early mornings or evenings, especially during Maha Shivaratri or Teej festivals when the temple is decorated and the energy is at its peak. Only Hindus are allowed inside the main sanctum, but non-Hindu visitors can still explore the outer complex, the ghats, and the surrounding shrines. Facilities for pilgrims are well arranged with guest houses, hotels, and small eateries nearby. Inside the temple premises, stalls provide flowers, prasad, and puja items. Photography is restricted inside the main temple but is allowed outside in the surrounding areas. Overall, visiting Pashupatinath Temple is a deeply moving and unforgettable experience. It combines devotion, spirituality, history, and culture in one place. Whether you are a believer or a traveler seeking peace, this temple leaves you with a sense of connection to something eternal.
Arya A — Google review
Pashupatinath Temple is one of the most sacred and spiritual places I have ever visited. Located in Kathmandu, Nepal, it is dedicated to Lord Shiva and holds great religious significance for Hindus. The temple’s architecture is stunning, with intricate wood carvings and a peaceful atmosphere that immediately makes you feel connected to something divine. One of the most moving experiences was witnessing the rituals on the banks of the Bagmati River. Though some moments, like the cremation ceremonies, can be emotional, they offer a deep insight into the cycle of life and death in Hindu culture. The temple area is always bustling with devotees, sadhus, and visitors from around the world. Despite the crowd, there’s a unique sense of calm and devotion in the air. The spiritual energy here is truly powerful. It’s also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so it’s not just a religious place but a cultural treasure as well. I would highly recommend visiting it, whether for religious purposes or simply to experience the rich traditions and history of Nepal.

Museum
The Aviation Museum in Nepal is a unique attraction housed inside a decommissioned Airbus 330-300 that had crash-landed at Tribhuvan International Airport. Captain Bed Upreti's innovative idea and the efforts of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal transformed the wreckage into a museum featuring miniature aircraft models, photos, and an educational film. The museum's creation was inspired by the tragic incident in March 2015 when the relatively new aircraft crashed after only eight months of operation.
The **Aviation Museum in Sinamangal** is a must-visit for anyone in Kathmandu! Nestled on the left side of Ring Road, near the Tribhuvan International Airport, this museum offers a captivating journey through Nepal's aviation history. I particularly enjoyed the **documentary about different models of planes**; it was both informative and engaging. The ticket prices are very reasonable, with **Rs. 125 for students** and **Rs. 250 for adults**. Overall, I highly recommend visiting this fascinating museum. It’s a wonderful experience for aviation enthusiasts and families alike! ✈️
Kritee N — Google review
Great place with actual Airbus and Helicopter on ground. History of aviation is well documented through displays. Inside of aircraft houses seating arrangements for audio visual display, model of aircraft’s and a restaurant. A few more actual aircrafts, perhaps smaller ones, could be added. Priced Ticket is mandatory.

It's nice to see Kathmandu having places like this. We get to see cockpit and learn a bit about aviation history. You get to see 10 minutes documentary related to aviation. You can take pictures wearing pilot or air hostess outfits which should be fun for kids. They should try to add more hand on experience like simulators or something with which we can interact. Toilet needs to be cleaner. It was really dirty. Food court could be better and souvenir shops should have more items related to plane. Overall it's a good initiative. There's scope for improvement.
Ferus H — Google review
It is a small and unique aviation museum, located in front of the airport near Sinmangal chok right at the ring road. It is an amazing space for kids and school children to give some aviation feels. Parking out side is limited. Tickets is Rs. 250 for adults and RS 125 for students. Inside is a cozy small ground, small slide, and a swing to entertain kids apart from the museum. Just one thought, in case of raining heavy, not much place to hide except inside aircraft. The cockpit and some real aircraft seats could have been improved for better feeling. A lot of improvement and interest could be further improved.
Goliv K — Google review
Nice place to spend some time with kids. And appreciate Nepal aviation in bring up such a nice idea. Can experience a cockpit of a flight, and helicopter. Kids have some slides to play and some photo frames with wings to click a bird out of you.

Was strange entering an aircraft that had met with a mishap eight years ago now turned into a museum. The airbus 330 was cannibalised and it's skeletal framework now displays hundred of model aircrafts and pictures from Nepal and elsewhere taken by the pilot who set up the museum. There's a cafeteria at the rear of the plane. Its a good place for aviation enthusiasts and students. It's could be done more tastefully.. but at least it's a good start! I got to go because of a function that was organised in the biz class section of the plane!

Very nice 👍👌😊 Place to visit and observe the view of Airplane. This place is very good for all age groups. I recomend to visit this museum once. It is very clean and good for photography. You can click photo and selfie without any hesitation. This place charge entry fee. if you are a Nepali student then you get 50% discount in entrance fee. This place have playground for kids. Once you visit this place you want to visit next more.

The location is part of a network that includes historical sites such as the Patan Museum, Bahadur Shah Baithak school, Taragaon Museum, and Siddhartha Art Gallery. The building itself is large and well-maintained, with plenty of room to explore. Entry is free, making it a great place to enjoy art and culture without any cost. A must-visit for art lovers!

Sherpa Mall is a newly constructed shopping center that has quickly gained popularity due to its unique culture and service system. It offers a great combination of dining and shopping, making it an ideal destination for groups and families. This well-known mall in Nepal focuses on offering international brands to visitors from around the globe. In addition to shopping, visitors can also enjoy a delightful dining experience with their loved ones.

The worst shopping mall!!! In every single shop i went to the staff were like leeches they stood right next to me and stared without even helping me. I felt so uncomfortable, this type of behaviour from retail staff needs to stop. Ask if im looking for something or ask how i am, then LEAVE ME ALONE!! One store i have to mention is the Puma store you guys were terrific, you didnt make me feel like i had to run out of the store!

Out of all the malls in Kathmandu Valley, I found the food of this place better. The ambience is also good, and the price of products here are also reasonable. Overall a nice place.
Sid — Google review
I visited Sherpa Mall in Kathmandu recently, and overall, it was an ordinary mall experience. The mall offers a decent selection of stores and amenities, but it lacks any standout features that set it apart from other malls in the area. The layout of the mall is fairly standard, with multiple levels housing various shops and eateries. While it provides a convenient and comfortable shopping environment, it doesn't offer any unique architectural or design elements that leave a lasting impression. In terms of the stores, Sherpa Mall has a range of shops catering to different needs, including clothing, electronics, and household items. However, the selection can feel limited, and some popular brands might be missing. When it comes to dining options, there are a few restaurants and fast food chains available within the mall. The food choices are decent, but again, nothing particularly exceptional or innovative. One positive aspect of Sherpa Mall is its location, which is convenient and easily accessible in the heart of Kathmandu. It provides ample parking facilities for visitors, making it convenient for those arriving by car. Overall, Sherpa Mall is a functional and ordinary shopping destination in Kathmandu. While it serves its purpose adequately, it doesn't offer any remarkable features or experiences that would make it a must-visit place for shopping or entertainment enthusiasts.

This New Age mall spans seven floors and features various brands such as Miniso, NYX, Wrangler, Forever 21, and Arrow. The first floor houses branded clothing and cosmetics shops while the second and fourth floors are occupied by a bank. On the third floor, visitors can enjoy Chinese/Korean cuisine at a restaurant.
Rising Mall is a grand supermall located in Teendhara Marg perpendicularly at the right angle with Durbar Marg (don’t laugh at my geometry 😁). It has a lot of clothing stores and some eateries and a coffee shop. There’s a bank at the top, ai think Mega Bank (now NIMB). There’s electronics shop in the ground floor. A good place to go for clothes shopping in Kathmandu.

Nestled in the charming Baber Mahal Revisited complex, Chez Caroline is a sophisticated restaurant offering al fresco dining in its courtyard and an extensive menu showcasing the essence of French cuisine. Indulge in delectable dishes like wild-mushroom tart, rabbit in mustard sauce, and peppercorn steak. The restaurant also offers a value-packed weekend brunch. The ambiance is perfect for a delightful evening with background music and twinkling candles.
What a stunning little gem of a restaurant. The French-inspired menu may be small, but every dish was packed with flavor and care. The servers were nothing short of amazing, attentive without being overbearing. The attention to detail in every bite was extraordinary. We enjoyed the fresh jams that were bursting with flavor, and the eggs and mushroom dish was simply fantastic. The ambiance transported you to a peaceful haven, far removed from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. It didn’t even feel like we were in the city at all. I can’t wait to go back for a leisurely lunch!

A nice old reputed place to try French cuisine. It was buzzing with tourists from France or who could speak French. Babar Mahal is a quaint place with Rana culture & does have queer expensive stores. Food not bad, the chicken dish passable, salad was good but service great.

Food was great, but all the stars go to our server Madhu, the nicest francophone man to ever exist. His attention and recommendations made the experience so enjoyable.
Lino C — Google review
Chez Caroline is my favorite place to eat in Kathmandu. The best tasting food (by a chef who was actually trained in France), the best service and tied with the Chimney restaurant for the best atmosphere for dining in the city. It truly is a treat! I only wish their pepper steak wasn’t always so good so I might be able to try other tempting options on their menu. Their salads are awesome too. Refreshing to find a restaurant here that strives for quality and doesn’t drown everything with spices. But that’s why French cuisine is considered to be the best in the world. Chez Caroline truly is a rare gem of a restaurant in this food hell called Nepal. And it’s quaint setting in the center of beautiful and sophisticated Baber Mahal makes it even more special.

The food and service were so good that I didn’t even think to take any pictures! The food tastes wonderfully homemade, and the chef is incredibly kind. I also loved the free access to explore the other shared spaces around the place. It’s a hidden gem! PS- you won’t regret visiting the folk style restroom

Himalayan Java - Tridevi Thamel is a well-known local coffee chain in Nepal, often likened to Starbucks. They roast their own coffee and provide a cozy setting with ample working space, small coffee tables, and comfy sofas. It's a great place to have breakfast, work on your laptop remotely, or indulge in their top-notch hot coffees such as Cappuccinos, Lattes, and Americanos.
Recently came to Nepal for a vacation and found this gem of a cafe. The atmosphere of this cafe was unmatched compared to other similar ones and this ambience also added to the experience. The coffee and the food was very nice and really enjoyed every time coming here.

One of the nicest cafes in Kathmandu, in my opinion. It’s a great spot to hang out, especially as an alternative to Starbucks (since there isn’t one in Nepal). The coffee was excellent, and the drinks and salads were equally enjoyable. I do think complimentary fresh water should be made available—it would be a thoughtful addition. There’s a cozy bar seating area where you can enjoy your coffee while being served directly at the counter. Definitely worth a visit!

Was searching for a quality coffee spot in Kathmandu and stumbled upon Himalayan Java – happy I did! This is easily Nepal’s answer to Starbucks. The Good: ✅ Excellent ambiance – comfortable and well-maintained ✅ Attentive service ✅ Impressive coffee selection with specialty brews (V60, French press, etc.) ✅ Quality ingredients and preparation What I Tried: ☕ Iced Mocha – Really good! Well-balanced with quality espresso 🍔 Fried Chicken Burger – Decent, nothing extraordinary but satisfying The Catch: Prices are definitely on the higher side compared to local cafes, but you’re paying for premium quality and atmosphere. Think Starbucks pricing for Starbucks-level experience. Bottom Line: If you’re a coffee enthusiast who appreciates specialty brews and doesn’t mind premium pricing, this is your spot. The variety of brewing methods available shows they take coffee seriously. Food is okay, but come here for the coffee. Perfect for meetings, work sessions, or just enjoying quality coffee in a great environment. Highly recommended for coffee lovers! 👍

A Must-Visit Gem in Thamel If you're looking for a quality coffee spot in Kathmandu's bustling Thamel district, Himalayan Java Coffee on Tridevi Marg is an absolute winner. This place has quickly become one of my favorite hangouts, and I can't recommend it enough. Atmosphere: The interior design is thoughtfully done, blending modern comfort with local charm. The stunning Moroccan-style tiled floors immediately catch your eye, while the wooden shelving and greenery create a warm, inviting vibe. What I love most is the variety of seating areas - you can sit at the bar counter watching the baristas work their magic, grab a wooden table for casual meetings, or sink into the vibrant red room with its cozy sofas and plants. It's perfect whether you want to work, read, or just relax. True to their tagline "Your Work Place & Neighbourhood Coffee Shop," the free WiFi is reliable, and the atmosphere strikes the perfect balance - lively enough to feel energetic but quiet enough to concentrate. Coffee & Menu: The coffee here is exceptional. They use a professional Victoria Arduino espresso machine, and you can tell the baristas take pride in their craft. The latte I ordered had a beautifully smooth texture, perfectly balanced flavor, and no bitterness whatsoever. I really appreciated the detailed information cards they provide about their beans - like the Sarangkot origin coffee with Anaerobic processing and Bourbon varietal grown at 1000-1300m altitude. It shows they genuinely care about quality. The bakery selection from "the handcrafted bakery" is impressive. I tried the cheesecake, which was incredibly creamy and not overly sweet - it paired wonderfully with the coffee. They also serve a complimentary brownie bite, which was a lovely touch. The display case has everything from Black Forest cake to Medovik Russian Honey Cake, making it hard to choose just one. Products: Beyond beverages, they sell beautifully packaged coffee beans, branded mugs, tumblers, and merchandise - perfect for gifts or taking a piece of the experience home. Service: The staff are friendly and professional, dressed smartly (loved seeing the traditional Dhaka Topi hat!), and genuinely welcoming. They create a comfortable environment without being intrusive. Worth Noting: No outside food or beverages allowed, and pets aren't permitted inside. Final Verdict: Himalayan Java Coffee exceeded my expectations in every way. Whether you're a coffee enthusiast, digital nomad, or tourist needing a quality break from exploring, this place delivers. Yes, it's pricier than local street cafes, but the quality, ambiance, and overall experience make it absolutely worth it. This is the kind of place I'd return to again and again. Highly recommended! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

As Good as Italian coffee Himalayan Java is an excellent idea with spacious stores, casual friendly atmosphere coupled with excellent coffee. The coffee is mild and smooth, perhaps the best coffee I have had outside of Italy. The service is friendly and the food is good and more importantly you can read a book or do your work while relaxing with a cup of coffee. It also has lots of options of teas which I did not try. This is the only place you should have coffee in Kathmandu if you are not in a hurry.

As a coffee lover who has traveled to many countries in search of a good cup, I can honestly say that Himalayan Java in Tridevi, Thamel, is a gem in the heart of Kathmandu. I had heard about this café from other travelers, and it exceeded my expectations the moment I walked in. The space has a warm, cozy atmosphere, with comfortable seating and a mix of locals, expats, and travelers enjoying their time. The coffee itself is exceptional. I tried their pour-over and cappuccino, and both were rich, aromatic, and perfectly brewed. You can immediately tell that the beans are fresh and locally sourced. Unlike many cafés in tourist areas that focus more on ambience than quality, Himalayan Java really takes pride in their coffee. For someone who values the craft of coffee-making, it was a treat to watch the baristas work — they clearly know what they’re doing. One of the best parts is that you can purchase their coffee beans to take home. I bought a bag of their medium roast as a souvenir, and it’s been keeping my mornings alive with the taste of Nepal even after leaving. Service was friendly, Wi-Fi was reliable, and the menu also offers pastries and light snacks that pair well with the drinks. If you’re a traveler in Thamel who appreciates good coffee, Himalayan Java should be at the very top of your list. It’s not just a café — it’s an experience that makes you want to linger a little longer.”

A great place to come in the morning after a yoga class held upstairs — or just to hide away from the hectic streets of Thamel. It has a lovely, relaxing atmosphere that’s perfect for unwinding, chatting with friends, and enjoying a healthy breakfast with good coffee. The café is located on the 2nd floor (or 1st, if you count from the ground floor), and it’s hard to miss — especially if you pass it on your way to the yoga studio upstairs. You’ll likely want to come back here right after your class. The meals are delicious, the coffee is pretty good, and as a bonus, some seats have sockets where you can charge your phone.

Nepalese restaurant
Krishnarpan Nepali Restaurant is a charming eatery located within the Dwarikas Hotel, offering traditional upmarket Nepalese cuisine in a warm and welcoming Newari atmosphere. The restaurant prides itself on using fresh, organic produce from its own local farm to create authentic dishes. Embracing the concept of slow dining, meals at Krishnarpan range from six to 22 courses, providing guests with an immersive culinary experience.
We had an amazing time at this Nepalese restaurant and wanted to thank the entire team for such a memorable evening. It was our first time trying authentic Nepalese cuisine, and we were absolutely blown away by the flavors and variety of the 6 dishes. Every bite was a discovery — rich in spices, perfectly balanced, and full of heart. The staff was warm and welcoming, happy to explain the dishes and share a bit about Nepalese food culture. The ambiance added to the experience, with a cozy atmosphere that made us feel like we were on a journey far from home. Thank you for introducing us to such a beautiful and delicious part of your country.

A lovely place and certainly not to be missed if you want an authentic Nepali culinary experience. We ordered a 6-course meal and it was sumptuous, filling and exotic. Our hostess, Yuma, would explain every course to us and her team of servers served us with love and care. We were a noisy group of 11 with lots of curiosity and questions. We all came out amazed at the entire experience.
Alok J — Google review
The atmosphere is stunning, with a warm, traditional vibe that makes a great impression. The menu is well thought out and clearly aims to showcase Nepali cuisine. Unfortunately, the service didn’t live up to the rest of the experience. From the beginning, things felt rushed and impersonal, which is disappointing for a place that’s meant to be immersive. At times, food was served or described when one of us wasn’t even at the table, which felt careless. Worse, parts of the main course came out cold, including the rice and lentil soup—something you wouldn’t expect at this level and hard to overlook. As the evening went on and the restaurant emptied out, the service dropped off completely. We had to ask multiple times for water and sparkling water, and they never arrived. Course including the main took a very long time to come out (very different from the rushed feeling of the first half of the meal). For the last dessert dish and after waiting quite a while, I ended up just asking for the check. That last dish didn’t even come nor acknowledged. To be fair, some dishes were tasty, and the overall concept is great. But for the price and setting, you expect a much higher standard of hospitality—and this time, it missed the mark. In short: Beautiful space, some great food, but disappointing service.
THOMAS R — Google review
We hosted our brother and sister-in-law for dinner at Krishnarpan in Dwarika’s, and the experience was truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived, everything felt thoughtfully curated and warm. The traditional setting instantly drew us in, and each course felt like a story told through Nepal’s rich culinary heritage. Our server, Kumari Dolma Lama, was outstanding. She was knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely kind. She explained every dish in detail, told us where the ingredients were sourced from, and never hesitated to answer our many questions. Her calm demeanor and constant smile made the entire evening even more special. The food itself was remarkable. Even the simpler dishes like bhyanta (eggplant) and stuffed lauka, which we never thought we’d enjoy so much, were surprisingly delicious and full of flavor. Each item on the menu tasted fresh, intentional, and beautifully balanced. You could truly taste the effort and authenticity behind every bite. Overall, Krishnarpan gave us one of the most memorable dining experiences. It’s not just a restaurant—it’s an experience that captures Nepal’s tradition, soul, and hospitality in every detail.

The environment and atmosphere are what stand out here. Very well decorated, comfortable seats, wide tables and spacious. The portion sizes are big, unless you're a very big eater, stick to the smaller number of courses. The food was just okay, certainly not worth the price we paid. It was well presented but the taste didn't match. We had 200 npr momo better than here. The service from staff is not consistent, we had just one that was good, a lot of them did not provide a description of the food and we had to keep asking for water.

A great experience. I recommend if you are looking for a tasting menu experience in Kathmandu. It’s nothing but an experience from the initial hand washing and taking your shoes off when you arrive. This cafe offered an incredible dining experience with a traditional cozy ambiance, attentive staffs and good food. The menu has a great variety, and everything we ordered was cooked better. The pizza was wholesome, flavorful and the appetizers were tender and delightful. Service was quick and they made. The atmosphere was also warm and inviting for gatherings. Pricing was reasonable according to the place and quality of food. Definitely will visit again.

The ambiance of The Bricks Café is very nice, quiet serene and peaceful. Both the inside and outside is well decorated. The outdoor seating is big enough that you can relax and sit cross-legged. For food we had ordered millet nachos (kodo ko nachos) and pizza. The millet nachos was very good and flavorful I wish the salsa bowl was slightly big so we could scoop the salsa easily with the big chips. The pizza however was very dissapointing. There were enough staff and the staff were friendly as well but since we were on the balcony, the staff were around much and there also wasn't any way we could call on them unless they were there to serve other customers.

Kathmandu Durbar Square is a captivating landmark nestled in the heart of old Kathmandu, specifically at Basantapur. This ancient royal complex showcases an impressive array of palaces, temples, and courtyards that date back to the Malla period. Visitors are greeted by iconic structures such as the Hanuman Dhoka Royal Palace, which served as the seat of royalty, and Kumari Ghar, home to the Living Goddess.
A UNESCO world heritage site and a history carrying from 3rd Century, Kathmandu Durbar Square aka Basantapur Durbar has always been one of my favorite place. Though the structures were rebuilt after 2015 earthquake, the essence and its art or carvings has been still amazing. The narrow roads around freak street and towards Ason has amazing experience of local shopping and food tasting. A must place to visit during your stay at Kathmandu. 🙏

Basantapur Durbar Square is one of the most famous and must-visit places in Kathmandu. I went there last weekend, and honestly, it’s way more beautiful than I expected. The moment you enter, you can feel the old-time vibes — the palaces, temples, and carved wooden windows show off Nepal’s amazing history and culture. Walking around, you’ll notice every corner has something interesting, from small shrines to huge statues. The place is always full of life. There are tourists taking photos, locals hanging out, street performers doing small shows, and tiny shops selling handicrafts, jewelry, and souvenirs. I spent some time just sitting on the steps, sipping tea, and watching people go by — it was surprisingly relaxing. The sunset view is magical. The golden light hits the old buildings and makes the whole square look like a painting. I also tried some street food nearby — momo and chatpate — while exploring, which made the visit even better. The vibe is lively but not overwhelming, and you can easily spend 2–3 hours just walking, clicking photos, and enjoying the atmosphere. If you are in Kathmandu, you can’t miss Basantapur Durbar Square. It’s a perfect mix of history, culture, and fun, and every visit leaves you wanting to come back again!

The Durbar (Royal Palace) Square is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites and should not be missed ifyou’re in Kathmandu. Consider also the Bhaktapur Durbar Square, which is highly recommended and located just 14km outside Kathmandu, perfect ror a half-day trip. The entry ticket was NPR 1,000 for International visitors, which I considered quite reasonable given the expanse of this site and the number of buildings and temples you can visit. We visited in the morning, as soon as the place opened at 9:00am as there were less visitors and we could watch the locals performing their morning prayers.

As much as natural disasters are unavoidable so is the rebuilding process for historical monuments(in some cases), but even after seven years, it seems rebuilding has not been 100% achieved. But at least it feels good to see Kasthamandap being rebuilt. Standing admirably and representing Kathmandu. Respect to those artisan woodworkers and Craftsman🙏.

The greatest blessings is to accept things as it is. you have no super power to change things. The energy that kasthamandap had before has been created in new form. It's amazing to see the kasthamandap standing tall after the great earthquake. It has many historical importance that I can't describe here. Whenever whoever visits Nepal, they should definitely visit this place and for the information (it's easier, you get whatever you need in information desk). Many jatras and festivals happens in this place. It has been recorded in UNESCO heritage site too. So feel it when you travel here. Many things are in reconstruction phase, hope to see it's beautiful version after the work is done. Once is not enough so visit frequently.

Going by its local name, the Kasthamandap in Kathmandu roughly translates as a wood-covered shelter. Three stories make up the temple's structure. This temple has held the status of a revered pagoda in the city from antiquity. Thousands of pilgrims travel to this Kathmandu attraction to venerate the famed Gorakhnath holy statue, which is housed in this sacred place. This temple's most notable characteristic is that it was originally constructed in the classic pagoda style. This tourist destination in Kathmandu is also well-known for other characteristics, such as the fact that the entire shrine was constructed from the wood of a single tree.

This is ancient Mandap, said to be construed by wood (Kastha) from a huge single tree. Name of the city where Kasthamandap is named as Kathmandu. The place is in heart of Kathmandu Valley at durbar square.

This building is on the outskirts of Durbar Square in a very busy area. The building is relatively simple and quite inconspicuous so anyone would be forgiven for not noticing it. That would be a shame though because it has about 1400 years of history as a public shelter. It is worth stopping by to see local people lazing about and resting during the day, in the same place and much in the same way they did for the last 1400 years.

Very interesting place. It's great for tourists to learn about the reincarnation of a deity. Kumari will come or for 7 seconds inside here, and NO photos are allowed. You stand around a small area and wait for the signal from the 1st floor. This is a must-visit place for anyone coming to Kathmandu.

The Missus wanted to see the “living goddess “ so we went. We had to pay for the pass to the complete area even though we had already been there and seen everything except for the young goddess. We arrived as she was giving an appearance. They don’t let anyone in during this time so we had to wait about 40 minutes before she made her next appearance. There’s absolutely no pictures of her allowed to be taken. She looks like a young preteen who is bored with the routine. She looked around at us for a couple of minutes with no expression on her face then left the upper window. There were very many people in attendance to see her. Everyone has to be absolutely quiet. There was a class of students that came in while we were there, and they were very well behaved.

Beautiful building. But the highlight is definitely seeing the living goddess. Ask at the information desks at what time you could see her. It’s quite beautiful as everybody goes silent and she appears and look at the crowd. Just a couple of minutes but it is worth the experience. Ask someone also how she gets chosen, it’s a very interesting story.

Rani Pokhari, also known as Queen's Pond, is a historic man-made pond situated in the center of Kathmandu, Nepal. It was constructed by King Pratap Malla in 1670 to commemorate his queen who was grieving the loss of her son. The site features a large stone elephant statue representing Pratap Malla and his two sons, as well as the Balgopaleshwor Temple standing above the pond.
I do not know who built this historical landmark. But it holds significant historical values. It is now open to the public for morning walks and jogging. Inside this place, one side pond water and the other side there are many green plants and trees which give you fresh air in the middle of the city, in the jungle of concrete. Do visit this place in the morning for morning walks and jogging.

Rani Pokhari is a historic, beautiful pond in Kathmandu, Nepal. Surrounded by temples and greenery, it offers a peaceful atmosphere, making it a popular spot for visitors and locals alike.
Samir G — Google review
A famous landmark in the heart of Kathmandu was made by King Pratap Malla in the 17th century. It was made to console his queen (Rani in Nepali) after his son's death. This pond has historical, cultural, and religious importance. In the center of the pond, there is a temple dedicated to the god Shiva, which only opens once a year. That is during the Deepawali in a day called Bhaitika. The person who doesn't have a sister comes here as a Bhai to take Tika. Lies between Rant Park, and Jamal have famous institutions like Darbar High School and Trichandra College in the front and back This pond has now been restored or renovated and looks very nice.
Ramesh B — Google review
The recently restored site looks absolutely beautiful — the white Balgopaleshwar Temple standing gracefully at the center of the pond gives the whole area a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere. The calm reflection of the temple in the still water creates a picture-perfect scene, especially during the evening when the lights illuminate the pond.

Ranipokhari is more than just a pond; it is a symbol of Nepal's rich history, culture, and resilience. The blend of architectural beauty, cultural significance, and the recent restoration efforts make it a landmark worth visiting. Whether you are a history buff, a cultural enthusiast, or someone looking for a serene spot in Kathmandu, Ranipokhari will not disappoint.
Dhiren O — Google review
This is my first time being here inside this premise on the occasion of Bhai Tika as this is the only day of the year it’s open for the public. And the place is peaceful and beautiful.
Niraj K — Google review
its historical and cultural significance, serene atmosphere, and recent renovations. Visitors praise its beauty, its central location for walks, and the peaceful feeling it offers. However, some older reviews mention it was dry and under renovation, with some lingering concerns about the project's completion and the water source, according to Tripadvisor. Positive aspects Cultural and historical significance: Built by King Pratap Malla in the 17th century to console his queen, the pond is a major landmark with deep religious and cultural importance. Peaceful retreat: Many visitors find the atmosphere serene and peaceful, ideal for walks, runs, and taking photos, especially in the newly renovated state.

Chocolate cafe
Snowman Cafe, a Kathmandu staple since the 1960s, offers a nostalgic experience with its Beatles music and timeless ambiance. Located near Old Freak Street, it attracts both locals and tourists seeking freshly baked cakes and a laid-back hippie vibe. While their coffee may not be the main draw, the classic chocolate cakes and apple crumble are favorites among visitors.
I LOVED it here! Very chill atmosphere, tasty cake, and good tea. I had coffee cake (100rupee) and hot tea (30rupee), the price is amazing too. I also love the cigarette scent (used to smoke and now quit) so this place being smoker friendly is a plus for me too.
Ai A — Google review
The only reason to visit this cafe was to locate the beginning of the Hippie Trail I read about in a book. Had a slice of apple pie (decent pie for the price). Honestly I didn’t get the good vibe as mentioned in the book and was disappointed with the smell and unclean interiors. Must have been a hip place in swinging 60s but now even it’s past glory is fading…
Anjaly A — Google review
Very special cafe serving delicious cakes, tea and coffee in quirky, smoky and possibly rebellious environment! Their apple crumble is divine. Loved the alternative atmosphere!
Ernesto S — Google review
Definitely among the top bakery / pastry shop in town. While it is among the oldest cafe in Kathmandu, it still has its charm. The glavours unique and extremely delicious and the prices would say quite cheap per slide even today. A must visit indeed.
Abhinav J — Google review
first went in almost 20 years back. The vibe still remains the same. The Chocolate Cake is delicious. The Brownie is good. Reasonable Pricing.
B C — Google review
The only good thing about this place is the ambience it’s cool Other than that customer service is basically zero. Hygiene is poor. Food, tea, cake… all super mid nothing special at all. Not tasty, not fresh, just average or below. The old guy with the white beard (owner or salesperson not sure) was straight-up rude. Zero customer dealing skills. I asked for WiFi and he told me “there’s no WiFi in Snowman Cafe” no idea if that’s true or just an excuse. Honestly felt like he might only be nice to foreign customers and doesn’t care about Nepali customers
Kushal N — Google review
I tried their cheesecake and tea. Cheesecake was very different from traditional baked cheesecake. It did not have a crust on the bottom. The tea was okay.

Beautiful place, mostly people smoke out there but for one time experience must visit, very budgets friendly, try pastries and cappuccino Downside- people smoke a lot out there so can be suffocating

Norling Tibetan Restaurant

Tibetan restaurant
Norling Tibetan Restaurant is a cozy spot located on the second floor with a view of Thahity's charming chaur. The menu features delightful dishes like Masala Papad and Chicken Jhol Momo, which are highly recommended. The food evokes nostalgia and is perfect for cold winters. With options like Chicken Steam Momo, Buff Kothey Momo, Thenthuk, Egg Thukpa, and Chicken Chowmein, there's something to satisfy every craving.
Norling Restaurant is a great spot for delicious food! The dishes are flavorful, well-prepared, and showcase a good variety of options. The ambiance is pleasant, making it a comfortable place to enjoy a meal. The service is friendly and attentive, adding to the overall positive experience. Whether you're dining in or ordering takeout, Norling Restaurant is definitely worth a visit if you're looking for good food in a welcoming atmosphere. But one thing parking problem
Sudeep S — Google review
A cozy moment at Norling Tibetan Restaurant in Kathmandu Tucked away just off a busy street in Thamel, Norling Tibetan Restaurant felt like a little pocket of calm. The atmosphere is simple, almost like a communal dining hall, but that is what made it feel authentic. There is no pretense here, just good food and people coming together over bowls of something warm. The soup was the highlight for me. It looked creamy and almost milky, but the server assured me there was no milk in it. The richness comes from long simmered grains and bones. It had a soothing, almost nostalgic feel to it, like something you would crave on a cold day in the mountains. The momo, a classic Tibetan dumpling, was decent with a chewy wrapper and a well seasoned filling. It is not flashy, but it is comforting. You can taste the home cooked nature of it. This is not a tourist gimmick. It is a working kitchen that has been feeding travelers and locals for years. What makes it even more meaningful is the history behind places like Norling. After the Tibetan uprising in 1959, many Tibetans fled into Nepal and settled in areas like Boudhanath and Swayambhu. With them came not only their spiritual traditions but also their food. Over time, Tibetan restaurants became community hubs where refugees found a taste of home and curious visitors like me could experience Tibetan culture through its flavors. Kathmandu’s Tibetan restaurants are more than just places to eat. They are part of a living story about migration, survival, and cultural connection. Even if you are just stopping by for a bowl of soup or a plate of momo, you are becoming part of that story. I will definitely be back. There is something about Norling that stays with you long after the meal is over.
Oscar P — Google review
Ate here twice with my wife and 2 year old, always good. Safe, healthy place. They have an open kitchen and you can see everything. The Lassi is delicious, a banana drink that helps with promotion of good gut bacteria. The chicken, mushroom soup is awesome. I ate many mo mo. Solid place to eat, about 300-500 rupees per person

I used to go to eat here . When ever I am in Thamel area . Was my one of Favourite Tibetan Momo Flavour . But not these Days . I went last week and eat momo but momo is completely Different test . Mixed with masala . It’s more like Nepali momo test . Not a tibetan momo test . Because tibetan momo test you don’t find in most restaurants. It’s unique test . Also some others people had a same issue with momo . So, not going any more .

We really like this (or perhaps "these") places! It has two stores: Norling on second floor and Tibetan on third. Food has good price/quality value, it is pretty delicious! Momo's are great, soft and juicy. Everything was great and we are coming here frequently.

Indian takeaway
Tasneem's Kings Kitchen is a renowned restaurant situated on Jhamsikhel Road, Lalitpur, offering a blend of contemporary cooking techniques with traditional Nepalese and Indian flavors. The establishment has gained a loyal following over the years due to its delectable non-vegetarian dishes such as chicken biryani, tandoori fish, mutton dum biryani, tandoori chicken, chicken cutlet, and seekh kebabs.
Ordered Chicken angara and Mutton Nihari. Served it with some crisp naans and raita. The takeaway was just awesome. A feast to be enjoyed at home. Their family value packs are economical and convenient if you have to serve a quick feast to surprise guests at home. Thank you Tasneem for saving the day

For our family dinner tonight, we ordered from Tasneem's King's Kitchen, and wow. We couldn't decide between the chicken and mutton biryani, so we ordered both, and they were amazing. We were so full, but our hearts were still craving more. 10/10 would recommend 👌

Has good ambiance, but horrible food. Chicken tikka were undone. Chicken seesh kebab full had floury. Worst was daal tadka, looked like they mixed lentil in curry sauce and served, worst i had in my life. Naan bread was a bit acceptable, and tasted good. Would give Naan - 6/10 Chicken muglai tikka - 3/10 (under cooked, smelly) Daal tadka - 0/10 (worst) Chicken seesh kabaab - 2/10 (floury taste overdrives the overall taste) Mint sauce/chatni - 1/10 (watery like soup)

I eat here every chance I can get. Tasneem prepares the best Indian food (by far) in Kathmandu, and some of the best I have had anywhere. Her Bohri recipes may not be what you're used to, so don't be afraid to be daring--even her daal is spectacular. Ask for recommendations. She is a welcoming hostess and a lovely person in every way! I started to list out my favorite dishes. I stopped when the list got absurdly long... When Tasneem closed her physical restaurant in February, I was devastated. But since then I've been very happy that she has begun to prepare weekly specials for take-away and delivery. These are not on the main menu, but so far all have been superb! The bhindi ghosht - a traditional Parsi dish - had the most mouthwateringly tender mutton I have ever eaten. The chicken kheema, which sounds like it should be a simple dish, was exquisitely spiced and delicious. This week I'm looking forward to kasuri methi chicken. Keep an eye out on her Instagram for the specials!

Patan Darbar Square, located in Lalitpur, is a historic area in Nepal known for its ancient buildings and temples. The square houses the Old Royal Palace, Golden Temple, and Mahaboudha Temple. Visitors can explore the area's old houses adorned with intricate wood carvings and shop for traditional handicrafts and paintings.
A must-visit in Kathmandu Valley! Patan Museum is beautifully restored and showcases Nepal’s rich history through stunning bronze, wood, and stone artworks. Peaceful courtyards, well-curated exhibits, and excellent explanations make it both relaxing and educational.

The place was very crowded when we visited on weekends so just be prepared to expect that. I would have enjoyed it more if I went on weekdays. The place was very beautiful and totally different from visiting other landmarks. You'd truly appreciate mankind and even get amazed how these architectures were built without modern technologies help and a thousand years back. Every detail of the architecture made me in awe of how crazy people used to build before. Definitely will give you a different perspective in life. Have lots of nearby restaurants and cafes so that you can enjoy the view while having a chill from inside the establishments. Had no trouble parking since they have a designated parking area for motorcycles, and a nearby private parking area for four-wheelers.

Art museum
Patan Museum, situated in the northernmost building complex of Patan Durbar Square, is housed in an 18th-century royal palace. Its purpose is to preserve and exhibit traditional religious art, culture, and iconography related to Hinduism and Buddhism. The museum features a stunning courtyard known as Keshav Narayan Chok, named after a temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
This is a definite must-visit place for everyone visiting or living in Kathmandu valley. This museum was a former palace (Malla dynasty) restored and open to the public in 1997. Set in Patan’s Durbar Square, the museum is a testament to how restorations can be done in a sympathetic manner to maintain historic authenticity. The collection of artifacts inside cover a huge range of items and time periods showcasing the breadth and depth of Nepal’s cultural history. There is also a cafe located on the museum grounds which we didn’t visit.

A Journey Through Time in the Heart of Patan Visited last Saturday and wow—Patan Durbar Square truly feels like stepping into a living museum! Every brick, every carving tells a story. The Patan Museum was the highlight for me—beautifully curated, peaceful, and rich with Newari art and history. It’s a place where you don’t just see culture, you feel it. The intricate woodwork, ancient courtyards, and spiritual energy make it a must-visit for anyone who loves history, photography, or just wants a break from the modern chaos. Sharing some snapshots I took—they barely do justice, but I hope they inspire someone else to explore this gem. Highly recommend going early in the morning for that golden light and fewer crowds!

We had the opportunity to visit Patan Durbar Square as part of our field visit, and it was an incredibly enriching experience. The site is not only visually stunning but also steeped in deep historical and cultural significance. Our visit was very well-received and exceptionally informative. We were guided through the square’s intricate temples, courtyards, and museums, gaining valuable insights into Newar architecture, art, and the rich heritage of the Malla period. Each part of the visit added a new layer to our understanding of the area's historical and cultural importance. The experience was well-organized, and we truly appreciated the effort put into ensuring that we learned as much as possible. It was more than just a visit—it was a learning journey that left us with a deeper appreciation for Nepal’s history and craftsmanship. Highly recommended for students, researchers, or anyone interested in history, art, and architecture. A truly memorable and educational experience!

Set within the historic Patan Durbar Square—a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Lalitpur—the museum occupies the intricately restored Malla-era royal palace, built in 1734 and updated extensively after the 2015 earthquake . The architecture is a beautiful example of traditional Newar woodwork and design, with carved windows, ornate courtyards, and the recently opened Sundari Chowk featuring the 17th‑century royal bath, Tusha Hiti, complete with stone and gilt imagery of Hindu gods and Nāgas . Boasting over 1,100 artifacts, about 200 are on permanent display, including cast bronze sculptures and gilt copper repoussé works that reflect centuries of Hindu and Buddhist devotion and artistry . The collection spans from the medieval Malla period through later eras, offering both iconic statues and explanatory captions that connect graphics to meaning.

Housed in a former royal court, the museum building is itself an attraction while the permanent exhibition includes Hindu and Buddhist bronzes and gilded repoussé works.

I visited the Patan Museum, and from the moment I entered, the atmosphere felt rich with history. Located in the old Malla royal palace, the architecture alone is worth the visit intricate wood carvings, traditional Newari brickwork, and serene courtyards that reflect centuries of craftsmanship. The restoration has been done with great care, preserving the authenticity while making the space easy to explore. The galleries display an impressive collection of artifacts, focusing on Hindu and Buddhist traditions. Bronze statues, gilt-copper repoussé works, and ancient religious iconography are arranged in a way that tells a clear story of Nepal’s spiritual and artistic heritage. Informative descriptions accompany each piece, offering context without overwhelming the visitor. Sundari Chowk, with its detailed woodwork and the historic royal bath, stands as a reminder of the palace’s grandeur. Every corner of the museum feels thoughtfully maintained, with a quiet, meditative atmosphere that contrasts with the bustling streets outside. Time moves slowly inside the museum. Courtyards open into shaded galleries, and each turn reveals another detail of craftsmanship or history. By the time I stepped back into Patan Durbar Square, it felt like I had experienced a preserved fragment of Nepal’s past in the heart of a living city.

Patan Museum is a famous museum in Lalitpur, Nepal, located inside the beautiful Patan Durbar Square. The museum is set in an old royal palace of the Malla kings and is one of the best places to learn about Nepali art and culture. It was officially opened in 1997 with support from Austria and today it is respected as one of the finest museums in South Asia. The museum mainly shows art related to Hinduism and Buddhism. Visitors can see old statues made of bronze, copper, and wood, along with many religious objects. Each display has clear explanations that help people understand the history and meaning behind the artwork. This makes the museum very educational for both students and tourists. The building of the museum itself is also very special. The traditional Newar-style architecture, with carved wooden windows, brick walls, and open courtyards, makes the museum look like a piece of art. There is also a peaceful garden and a small café where visitors can relax. Patan Museum is not only a place to see beautiful objects but also a place to connect with Nepal’s past. It is an important destination for anyone who wants to explore the country’s rich culture and traditions.

Krishna Temple, also known as Krishna Mandir, is a 3-tiered Hindu temple located in Patan Durbar Square. Built in 1637 by King Siddhinarsingh Malla, this architectural marvel features intricate stone carvings and showcases the influence of Indian temple design. It is the earliest stone temple of its kind in Nepal and withstood the 2015 earthquake.
Krishna Mandir in Patan is one of the most beautiful and spiritually rich places in the Kathmandu Valley. Located just 15 minutes' walk from my home, I visit the temple 2–3 times a week. Each visit brings a sense of peace and connection. Despite being a sacred and religious site, the area is always bustling with energy — a mix of worshippers, locals, and visitors all coming together in a truly vibrant space. Built in the 17th century during the reign of King Siddhi Narsingh Malla, the temple is a masterpiece of traditional Shikhara-style architecture, carved entirely out of stone. It holds immense importance in Hindu culture, especially for devotees of Lord Krishna. Over the years, Krishna Mandir has also become a cultural and social gathering spot — a place where people from all walks of life come not just to pray, but to connect, reflect, and enjoy the heart of Patan Durbar Square. The atmosphere is both sacred and lively — a perfect example of how tradition and community come together in daily life. Whether you're a devotee or a traveler, Krishna Mandir is a must-visit spiritual landmark in Nepal.

Sacred & Religious Sites
Hiranya Varna Mahavihar, also known as the Golden Temple, is a centuries-old Newa Buddhist monastery constructed around 1409. Despite its nickname, the temple's golden luster comes from polished gilded copper rather than pure gold. The main courtyard houses ornate brass statues and other elements plated in gold, offering a rich historical and cultural experience for visitors. It is important to note that leather clothing is not permitted inside the temple.
Hiranya Varna Mahavihar, commonly known as the Golden Temple, is a remarkable 12th-century Buddhist monastery situated in the heart of Patan, Nepal. Despite its modest size, the temple's opulent gilt facade and intricate Newari craftsmanship make it a standout landmark in the Kathmandu Valley. Upon entering the temple's courtyard, visitors are greeted by two large brass guardian elephants, leading to a lavish shrine adorned with a silver and golden chaitya. The courtyard is rich with artifacts, including brass monkeys holding jackfruits and large bronze Bodhisattvas, each piece reflecting the meticulous artistry of the Newar artisans. The main shrine houses a silver image of Shakyamuni Buddha, locally known as Kwabaju, which is adorned with drapes and ornaments, leaving only the face visible. The temple is an active place of worship, with monks performing rituals and chanting prayers, creating an atmosphere of peace and reverence. A unique aspect of the temple's tradition is that the principal priest, or Bapacha, is always a boy under the age of twelve, who serves for one month. This practice adds to the temple's distinctive cultural heritage. Visitors are encouraged to explore the temple's upper floors, where additional chapels and a prayer hall with an image of an eight-armed Amoghapasa can be found. It's important to note that leather items are not permitted inside the temple, and modest dress is appreciated. In summary, Hiranya Varna Mahavihar offers a profound glimpse into Nepal's rich cultural and religious tapestry. Tourists beware. A random man came up to us and started to give us a free guide without introducing himself. He was very enthusiastic and we naively thought he worked at the temple and was giving us a friendly free tour. NOPE! He stopped midway through the tour and asked us for a tip to continue the tour and to bring us to a nearby Thangka shop. It felt like an awkward moment so we tipped him (not much), and he finished the tour and dropped us off at a Thangka shop and VANISHED without saying goodbye. From my experience, many temples in other places (ie. Taiwan) have free tours. So I guess I had that in mind when visiting the Nepali temples. It’s partially our fault for not doing more research on what to expect. We definitely think any type of service should be paid, but then they should say how much upfront. It’s not professional to stop mid-tour and ask for specific amount of money to continue. It’s the lack of transparency that makes it feel like a scam. We arrived, paid ticket fee, and instantly the guy led us around without introducing who he was and why he was doing it. We naively thought he worked for the temple. 😐😵‍💫

The Golden Temple - look for the black entrance way! Pretty cool, easy to get around, wasn’t too busy..

A well managed, lineage driven temple since ancient times! The interesting fact is that the lineage holders of the Guthi hand over the daily ritual rights to the youngest priest, known popularly as Bafacha! Dressed in white robes, the young priest offers daily rituals and other tasks to Shakyamuni Buddha residing in this Golden Temple!

Hiranya Varna Mahavihar, popular as 'The Golden Temple' is a historic and artistic Buddhist temple located in Patan Durbar Square, Nepal. History: The temple dates back to the 12th century and is a fine example of the unique local architecture and craftsmanship featuring a three-tiered pagoda-style structure with gilded statues and intricate carvings. Sacred Space: Inside the temple, there's a central courtyard with a shrine dedicated to Shakyamuni Buddha. You'll also find beautiful prayer wheels and other sacred artifacts. On the first floor you'll find more stautes dedicated to Tara, Manjushree and other deities. Devotees chant melodious prayers in the evening. Monastic Traditions: The temple is still an active monastery and home to various traditional rituals and ceremonies. Every evening, the young monk engages in a special ritual followed by a circumambulation of the durbar square. Ease of Access: It is located a short walk from the heart of Patan Durbar Square, on the way to the Banglamukhi temple, making it a must-visit for those exploring the cultural and historical heritage of the Kathmandu Valley.

This temple is well worth a visit. I don't think I've ever seen so much brass before! Built in the 12th century, It has a lot of intricate wood carvings, plus a host of unusual metal objects not often seen at other temples. It's located an easy walk from Patan Durbar Square, with other temples close by.

My family and I had a wonderful visit to this temple. The atmosphere was incredibly positive and peaceful, making it a perfect place for spiritual reflection. The architecture is stunning, blending elements of Buddhist and Hindu traditions beautifully. We were impressed by how well-maintained and clean the temple grounds were, which added to the overall serenity. It was a fulfilling experience that left us feeling connected and uplifted.

Labim Mall, located in Kathmandu, is a modern and elegant shopping complex that opened after the earthquake. Spanning 5 floors and 200,000 square feet, it houses a variety of popular restaurants such as Roadhouse Pizzeria and Le Mirch, as well as international and local brands like ESPRIT and GEOX. The mall also features LEVEL 3, a rooftop terrace bar and lounge where Nepali celebrities gather on Wednesdays and weekends.
Excellent mall. They offer both international and locally made apparel. I picked up a locally made shirt for 50 bucks. It was more expensive than the ones I get in Thamel or local markets, but the design and quality were fantastic. There is a bar on the top floor, and that is where we watched the annual chariot procession called Rath Yatra on May 1st. It is a traditional religious ritual where a deity’s image is carried through the streets in a beautifully decorated chariot. A unique and memorable experience.

Labim Mall isn’t just a shopping center—it’s a lifestyle hub in Kathmandu that blends shopping, dining, entertainment, and architecture under one elegant roof. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick coffee, hopping into QFX for a film, or browsing global and Nepali brands, the experience is thoughtfully curated. It blends modern design with traditional charm—featuring brick walls, spacious open corridors, and a generous glass atrium that bathes the interior in natural light. Boasting over 100 stores, It offers a mix of international and local brands—a great solution for fashion, electronics, beauty, and more.

Visited Labim Mall during Dashain for some shopping, and it was such a great experience! The mall was beautifully decorated with festive lights and vibes all around — it really felt like Dashain celebration in full swing. The shops had great festival offers and discounts, making it the perfect time to buy clothes, gifts, and accessories. I found everything I needed in one place — from branded stores to small local shops, all neatly organized and easy to explore. The staff in most stores were friendly and helpful, even though it was quite busy. The food court was lively too, with so many options to grab a quick bite or relax after shopping. Parking and cleanliness were well managed despite the crowd, which made the overall visit smooth and enjoyable. Labim Mall always feels modern yet comfortable, and during Dashain it’s extra special with music, decorations, and cheerful people everywhere. Definitely one of the best spots in Kathmandu for festive shopping and spending a fun family evening. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a complete Dashain shopping experience in a clean and classy environment!

Such a well decorated, peaceful mall! Loved having some drinks & snacks at the Himalayan Java downstairs. All the shops are expensive though. Do try the Bliss by Sakil kunwar salon if you are info self care!

Casa Pagoda is a cafe and restaurant located in Patan, offering delicious food with a stunning view of Patan Durbar. The local coffee they serve is highly recommended. Visitors can expect quality food, excellent service, and a picturesque setting. Guests have praised the friendly and professional staff, cleanliness of the restaurant, and the quick service. The overall dining experience was delightful with delicious food and drinks served promptly at reasonable prices for tourists.
Went here last night for dinner spontaneously, and we weren't disappointed. The 'Casa Buff Burger' was the best burger I've personally had in Nepal. It was very juicy and tasted amazing. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is feeling hungry for a burger. Although the waitress forgot a few things on our order, it wasn't a major issue that couldn't have been rectified. The customer service was good and the only restaurant that asked us about our food experience. The view of Durbar Square Patan was nice at night too, the atmosphere was fairly peaceful compared to the day where its always so hectic.

Fantastic place for our first meal outside of our hotel! Waiter was extremely friendly and professional, restaurant seemed very clean and had a great view over Durbar square to watch people and dogs wander about for the evening. Our drinks and food came quickly and it was all delicious! Genuinely can’t fault this place, very reasonable prices for tourists and we really enjoyed the experience. 5 out of 5 - thank you Casa Pagoda team 😊

The milkshake was good. Biryani was ok. The view and the ambience were great. The cafe overlooks the Patan Durbar Square. Since the cafe is just beside the Durbar square, it's a little expensive but overall a good experience.

I came to this place last summer w my family and we wanted to sit upstairs. They said table was full and bunch of white people made their way upstairs. This is their cosmopolitan cocktail after waiting for 30 mins. You can be the judge of it. Wouldn’t recommend. I regret giving them second chance.
Re- R — Google review
Came for dinner and easily managed to get a table overlooking the square (granted I visited in low season so not many tourists). I had the veggie burger which consisted of paneer/grilled cottage cheese, served with chips and a salad and a large beer - it was delicious, definitely recommend. Service was great, only downside was that a couple of people on nearby tables were smoking.
Josephine M — Google review
A scam! Avoid it. They charged 23% extra (service fee and tax) while there is no service and the government has removed the tax. The food is not even good. The momo I ordered were all broken and the meat is very dry.

The chicken Biryani is tasty and the tali plates are pretty good as well. Also the mint lemonade is full of flavor and nicely balanced sweet/sour! Service was nice and friendly as well! Of course, not the cheapest of restaurants but I would consider that normal for a prime spot next to a tourist attraction!

Visiting here after ages. The ambience was the same as previous. Homely and cozy but a bit conjusted. The prices a bit expensive but as for the food, one of the few places where veg items were truly satisfying. The veg momo platter had 4 varieties each full of flavours. As for the cheese pizza which was a 9 inch pizza, it too was extremely flavorful. The milk tea however was not as good as I hoped for. As for the service, it was quite slow and had a hard time getting a staff to take the order or listen.

A place with a good view, but not tasty food and very intrusive waiters. The waiters obsessively offer to order everything on the menu. It's doesn't create the best atmosphere. The toilet was very dirty with a terrible stench. Prices are too high for such a place. I wish you to get better, because the view is nice.

Great spot for a beer, in a calm and serene garden tucked away off a busy street. Came back for dinner and the veg thakali was good; portions could have been more generous but you do get refills!

The place is perfect, I came to eat alone and the atmosphere was very calm, just what I needed. The food was excellent and the service from the team was very reactive, especially Swostika. They even provided me with mosquito repellent as soon as I settled in. I highly recommend this restaurant-café !

It is a peaceful and beautiful little restaurant with great servers. We tried butter chicken masala and blue Hawaii. Average tastes and small portion, but the ambiance is unbeatable. Will revisit to try their coffees.
Kritika S — Google review
This place has reopened after a long time with an ownership change. We ordered the hot chocolate, bruschetta, grilled chicken and pasta pomodoro. Hot chocolate: It was regular. Bruschetta: Very plain and basic, just tomatoes on top of bread. Grilled Chicken: It came with a side of mashed potatoes and sautéed vegetables. The dish was dry and the sauce was almost like a momo chutney. The flavor profile of the chicken and the supposed sauce did not match. They need to improve this. Pasta Carbonara: No veggies, no greens, no cheese, just tomatoes. The taste was bland and instructions to add chilli flakes were not followed. Overall Review: The ambience, location and vibe of the restaurant was good. Based on the food we ordered, there is still work to be done on the food. The portion sizes need improvement.

Hospitality and ambience in this restaurant is great. The menu is a mix of continental and Nepali cuisines (bit on a expensive side) but serves its value with the taste✨. A great varieties of cocktails and mocktails are also worth giving a try❤️

This place has a nice ambience and pretty good food. More than the food, I loved the ambiance. The food was average for its price. My favorite dish was the carbonara, and my favorite drink was the frozen margarita. The food menu is limited, and they have a long drinks menu, but most of the drinks weren't available. However, the service was quite good. I think they should improve their food portions and quality to match the prices. If you visit in the summer, avoid choosing a spot in the corners. The area has many trees and plants, which attract a lot of mosquitoes.

Great food. The service is amazing. Bikki dai provided amazing service and catered us very well. Be mindful of the portion size for appetizers as it might be small but the size for main course is sufficient. There were few mosquitoes because of outdoor environment, but the ambience was amazing.

Situated within Labim Mall, this eatery boasts a cozy atmosphere, amiable staff, immaculate surroundings, and delectable Thai dishes. The prices are reasonable compared to similar establishments. While the menu could offer more variety in terms of non-vegetarian choices (limited to chicken or fish/prawn), the flavors remain authentic. Additionally, they often provide enticing beer deals like "buy 1 get 1," which adds to its appeal.
Located inside Labim Mall, this cafe is has a cosy ambience, friendly staffs, perfectly cleaned and delicious Thai cuisines. I have found the price reasonable compared to other similar properties. Honestly, I was expecting more from the menu here, for ex: all the non-veg items are either chicken of fish/prawn. Nevertheless, whatever you get here are authentic in taste. When I was there I also noticed some great deals on beers (buy 1 get 1) which is always cool t cheer about :). Highly recommended for those seeking for Thai cuisines around Pulchowk :)

It is a great place to have a quick Thai bite. Not the best Thai eatery, but pretty decent. The satay sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste but overall decent and the staff were super friendly.

We attracted by the clean restaurant outlook and entered this shop for lunch. The interior design was nice and make people felt relax, but the food there not really big in portion and taste of food can be improve. The waiters there were helpful and kind, but except one of them kept rushing clean up our table. Felt like she don't want us to stay more time at the shop, this part deduct the image a lot.

I revisited this place once again. I am so glad they're upto the benchmark till date. They're still the best Thai food in town. I was with some of my friends who were new to this place, therefore I was a bit nervous. However, as I already mentioned, it didn't disappoint at all. My friends will soon be a regular customer, I am sure 🙂 My review last month was as follow; At first I was little hesitant to check this place as it didn't represent a Thai restaurant, however as I tasted the food, OMG! It was extremely out of my imagination and beyond my expectations. It tasted equals to the cuisines in Thailand. Hats off to the Chef and entire team. My suggestion, try pineapple rice, and Pad thai.
