Food was really good, portions were great and on par for what we paid. Service was hit or miss, but our server was busy, so we didn't think much of it. She did a fantastic job of touching tables and popping in to see us. I would highly recommend the Cuban, as it was larger than usual portions of ham and pulled pork.

I'm not sure how good the food is. I've been waiting for over an hour and it hasn't come out yet and it was an appetizer. They haven't refilled our drinks. The tables that got here 20-30 minutes after us got all of their meals before we got any food. People who got here at the same time as us got their food but we have been waiting for 20 minutes still. Finally got my appetizer after an hour 15 minutes. Bread on sandwich was burnt.

Food was really good. Motorboat burger, Buffalo chicken salad, hot honey chicken wings, walleye fillet, all delicious. The only problem was that our waiter had absolutely no soul and the burger took like an hour to get to the table. Everyone was done eating by the time we got it.

The duck wings are good.. but we're better when it was the whole wing with the wing tip include. Burgers are delicious 😋😋 and that blueberry blonde. Oh yeah good stuff.

I always stop here at least once on my yearly visits to Ely. Used to be a great spot in the heart of Ely to get lunch or dinner. Lately, the service has dragged this place down. The food and the beer are worthwhile, but good luck finding an attentive server that has a friendly attitude towards non-locals. None of the wait staff seems to have time for small talk or even simple greetings. It's a pity, because I always looked forward to a visit to the Boathouse, but after the last couple of years of poor service, I probably won't be back.

We ordered the grilled chicken salad and the Ruben sandwich. Both were amazing. Food was hot like it went directly from the grill to our table. Our server Jackie was wonderful. Hello from Boise! We will recommend this place from here on out and will definitely be back for more.

Fill up your BWCA approved growlers with the blue berry ale and your belly with some great food served fast even when busy. Super friendly staff too. A great stop after some days in the woods or before you venture in.

We had an outstanding experience with Piragis! We’d never been to the BWCA so we had no idea what to expect. We decided to go with Piragis and use their full outfitting package for me, my wife and our newly minted high school graduate. We had lots of questions and spoke with Drew multiple times. He was very patient, answered all our questions and gave us some really good advice. Drew and the Piragis team made it so easy through the whole process. We did a 5 day/4 night trip. During our adventure, we came to appreciate the quality of the Piragis equipment, which was all very high quality and meticulously maintained. The food options were all really good and they gave us everything we needed to enjoy it. Our trip was so much fun and we were so impressed with Piragis that I have no doubt we’ll do it again and it will definitely be through them. There’s no other way to go!

This outfitter came highly recommended to me by somebody who works with many of the outfitters in the industry and they did not disappoint! We are excited to use them again this year for a trip to Little Gabbro. They are more than helpful on all things from trip planning as well as outfitting and have an amazing selection of new and used gear. Their newsletters are great. Looking forward to our trip and stopping by the store again soon!

Can't say enough good things about this outfit. Both their store, store and outfitting employees, and outfitting equipment was absolutely top notch and perfect. We ended up doing the Stargazing Trip (5 days) and it was perfect - the outfitting for us, the guide (Steve), and the area was great. Would do it again.

What a remarkable institution. This was our first time to be fully outfitted as we've always done everything ourselves. We were impressed with the quality of the gear and the food and how it was all packed. The staff did an excellent job of going over the gear and the food with us and tailoring it all to our individual tastes and needs. Full outfitting is fantastic for people who have a good idea of what they’re doing just as well as the complete novice. We were especially touched by all of the staffs' kindness and generosity in sharing their different perspectives and wisdom. I’m grateful to have spoken to both Tim and Adam about our proposed itinerary, Jeffrey and especially Jamie on outfitting our son for fishing, Jamie and I think Nathan’s thoughtfulness in going over with us and planning our food and gear, and Drew on new-to-me ground cloth placement. I learned a lot from everyone (and wish I could buy 'em all a round and learn more). We were very well outfitted, but the kindness really brought together a spectacular trip. I highly recommend Piragis and hope to visit them all again soon.

Piragis always provides the best gear, great advice, and terrific service. We and our friends and relatives have used them many times over the years and have never been disappointed. I just returned from a three day solo trip using one of their Wenonah Prism canoes and had a fabulous time.

Good price on kayaks, i love they set up and show you the steps to strap kayaks to vehicle. They set you up with everything you need. Great stuff in the store as well. Great maps to boundary waters.

This was my first time visiting Britton’s Café, and I was pleasantly surprised by how great it is. The portions are very generous—one dish is more than enough to satisfy your hunger. The hot chocolate with whipped cream is absolutely delicious, and the side of extra potatoes is practically a full meal on its own! The coffee is also very tasty. The staff is incredibly friendly and creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The food is outstanding. In my opinion, this restaurant deserves top marks: great quality, fair prices, and the perfect spot to enjoy a meal with family.

Don't be deterred if there's a line—it's a testament to the quality, and I can assure you it's completely worth the wait. Solid spot. Nice little café, diner style, in the heart of Ely. I was in the mood for stuffed hash browns and they did not disappoint! Fresh baked bread a huge plus. We're going back to try the crepes and waffles. Very good service. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars all around was because we really wished there was homemade jam for the bread! Cash/check only. Dont forget your souvenir t-shirt on the way out, these are worth it!

VERY good place to go for breakfast 😋 They have LARGE portions so bring your appetite. The service was good even with it being busy. I had the veggie stuffed hashbrowns and my son had the biscuits & gravy, eggs, bacon and hashbrowns.

Really good local cafe for classic American breakfasts. Just be aware, if you have to wait, you have to wait outside, so dress for it! Portions were huge and I had enough for breakfast the next day too. Staff is friendly and professional - very efficient. Not chatty, but it was a busy Saturday morning during the Harvest Moon Festival so we weren't expecting them to lean on the counter and talk much.

This is one of those "cash only with an attitude" establishments. The food is FORGETTABLE. The pancakes are garbage. Everything else is just ok. They are benefitting off being the only established breakfast place in town. I'd never go again it just wasn't very good or worth it. The waitress was pleasant the restaurant was clean. 6 ounces of Orange Juice for $3.50. what a deal.

Great meal!! The whole family enjoyed their meals, local drinks a plus. I had one piece of chewy steak in my steak bowl or I would have given 5 🌟's for food. It was still incredibly yummy! My husband's walleye was EXCELLENT. Will stop again!

Truly an amazing experience from the food presentation, food quality and service was exceptional. The Chicken and Waffles were way better than expected and my son enjoyed the burger so much he ordered another. The wild rice chicken pot pie was ridiculously good. Food was tremendous. First time in the building since it was Vertins Cafe going back many years and it has changed quite a bit. More open, lighter and modern. Had the walleye with wild rice which was prepared to perfection. Flaky on the inside and crunchy on the outside. If you're near the Boundary Wilderness Canoe Area eating walleye is a must and won't be disappointed!! My guests had entrees ranging from the pork chop with Brussels sprouts and flatbread with prosciutto which they all raved about. Service in my estimation just missing a bit. Couldn't get seated for 30 minutes so sat at the bar. However, took us about 15 minutes to get a drink which was a bit tardy. Seemed they had two guys behind the bar but only one doing the bartending! If you're in Ely definitely try out Insula.

We enjoyed everything we ordered. We liked the variety of salad dressing, some of them seemed quite unique. The catch of the day was a branzino. The fish was perfectly done with a crispy skin and the sides were phenomenal. My husband enjoyed his walleye piccata. I don't know if the cheesecake was made in house but it was very good and paired well with the strawberry rhubarb compote.

Sat at the bar, served by Aaron on a crazy Tuesday night. Had the amazing Chicken Waldorf bowl (one of the best things I've ever eaten, so much flavour and variety of foods in one bowl) and a Maple Marzen beer. Loved it!!!

If you are skeptical of going because of the prices, dont be! The serving sizes are generous! The walleye sandwiche was well executed! Hand breaded and fresh; flaky and crisp! Hubby got the chicken and waffles. The chicken was hand breaded and moist on the inside. Side salad was a good size and the fries are seasoned! Hit the spot and did not disappoint. Food came out fast but took awhile to get the billed paid.

We were able to get in on a summer Friday night with short notice reservations. Masks were required when not seated and all of the servers wore masks. Hand sanitizer was available at the entrance but didn't see it until on the way out. Service was pretty slow but our server was friendly and helpful. Tables were distanced inside but still very full with patrons. Good food but not truly steakhouse quality.

I absolutely loved coming here! My group heard good things about it and I was incredibly pleased with the entire experience. I had the grilled cheese burger with some tomato soup and it was outstanding! If I'm ever back in the area I will for sure be stopping by.

Our family wanted to have a nice and easy breakfast in the morning, so we choose the grilled cheese emporium. The minute we walked in they announced to us that there credit card machine was down, which we completely understood and had cash to pay for our food. Then when we were about to order, they told us that they would not make us any lunch order because they were too busy (we were the only ones inside the restaurant besides a group of seniors that didn't seem to have ordered any food.) We made the ultimate decision to go somewhere else that was capable of serving us food, and when we told her we were sorry and that we would be eating somewhere else she said "Okay whatever" in a incredibly rude way. Our experience with this restaurant was less than enjoyable and the service was snappy and rude.

This place will definitely be my go to when traveling up North! Came here because I was craving a grill cheese; I ordered the classic grill cheese with tomatoes soup; and my partner ordered the bacon mac and cheese sandwich. Both were ABSOLUTELY amazing! The bacon Mac & Cheese is a must have! It was sooo delicious and hot. The wait was relatively quick; and the waiter was extremely helpful. I also ordered a quesadilla which was pretty mediocre; I would definitely recommend having the bacon Mac & Cheese.

Really disappointed in this business. I tried to order three ways. First time online….get to processing the payment after inputing all the info and it says that I have to call the business. Started calling the business and after 3 calls going to voicemail (after 20 rings each time), I decided to go down to the store and order. There were 4 people standing around talking. I explained what happened. He said it wasn’t his fault that the app didn’t work and that he couldn’t give me the online pizza order for the online price. What a scam. Horrible customer service (only 7 employees yet 4 were standing around chatting). Horrible horrible horrible.

We came here on New Year’s Day. Dined once before this past summer. Service was good. We wanted soup, but they had none today. One special listed was grilled cheese and soup, but the specials were erased after we ordered. We asked for tea and mint tea was a choice two of us wanted. They had only one bag left. The food was okay. Basic items. Menu has some choices but a lot is fried and big bread sandwiches.

Friday summer night at this place so naturally it was busy. No big deal though, it was just two of us and we were seated right away even though it was packed. We both ordered the ribeye. It was a true 16oz but the steaks unfortunately lacked flavor. Didn't even taste like there was a pinch of salt. Service was friendly and great though! With it being as busy as it was, it was a bit loud. Due to the lack of flavor for a $45 dollar steak, I couldn't give it higher than 3 stars.

We have been here over an hour!!! Before people started coming in and 4 tables now, have been served before us. Waitress had zero communication with us. This is beyond ridiculous. There is 5 of us, very simple order and one other table. Not coming here again. Where’s the walleye in these walleye tacos?

I’ve tried this place A couple times with guests. Always hoping for better, but it’s always a disappointment. Food usually arrives barely warm if not cold. Not sure if it’s because of the cook or it’s sitting out waiting to be delivered. Usually takes a long time to get an order in and returned. Staff comes in very outgoing. But then you constantly have to remind them what you ordered to bring your food and to bring the bill in a timely manner. As I said, disappointed again. But will probably try to bring visiting guest at another time. Hope they try to do better.

Surprisingly good and a great value. When lots of establishments have to close early, it’s tasty gas station pizza for the win! Choose your toppings— no charge— one flat, predictable price. We usually get the thin crust & it feels light and also satisfying.

Well done modern building with awesome displays for all ages + hands on things for the mini humans to explore. Auditorium is nice and airy, speech was 10/10. Pups are still on the small side (August '25) so that was an added bonus. Edit; came back for the Sat night (roadkill) feeding which was a tad extra $ but was really interesting to see how wolves behaved and who ate what.

We came to Ely for the North American Bear Center and this one jumped into our lap. It was a Good choice on our part to add this one to our itinerary in Ely. Seeing those baby wolfs was the best, but they won’t be babies for long. Excellent facility and very well done. Enjoy…

Famous, and rightfully so. Great information about wolves. Exhibits for all ages. Frequent educational sessions. At least while we were there the wolves were super active. Running around, fighting over a bone, asserting dominance, etc. Would happily go back at some point. Fascinating to see how much complex even these wolves within their limited enclosure would demonstrate.

The International Wolf Center is such an incredible experience. We had the opportunity to see the pack of six wolves up close, interacting with the staff. We were fortunate enough to see the staff feeding and caring for the wolves so all six were up near the observation area. In addition, the center has many great displays, a theater and a very informative learning experience. If you are Ely, I highly recommend you visit the International Wolf Center!

The wolf viewing area is quite small comparatively. This is kinda a tourist trap and not worth the price of admission. I'm giving it three stars because it does have some very good displays. Maybe it's worth going to once. If you only have time for one stop, go to the bear center on the other end of town it is far better. We did see a few wolves sleeping, nothing spectacular.

This is one of our favorite stops. Clean facility. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Museum is phenomenal. Only gripe is price of admission is kinda steep. But, its supporting the wolves. ;)

Really enjoyed our experience and learned a lot about wolves and their ecosystems. We especially loved seeing the two new pups, Cedar and Rowan (two smaller black ones).

This quaint coffee shop is the best in the town of Ely. With its cozy, friendly atmosphere. A great place to strike up a conversation with other tourists. Excellent grade of coffees. Very clean restrooms and cleanliness throughout. Easy to log into wifi. Top notch business.

One of our favorite places to go to in Ely. Great Coffee and tea selections. Great ice-cream and desserts. Carmelious was our favorite ice-cream. Sometimes it was sold out it was so popular. It is right across the street from the laundry mat we used every week while spending the summer in the Ely area. Very friendly staff. Great customer service.

Breakfast burrito was good! But unfortunately no one in our group was thrilled by their coffee drinks. One person who ordered extra hot even received a lukewarm drink, so it was overall a little disappointing. We will still probably return in the future since we've had positive experiences in past years! This just wasn't up to par.

We had breakfast and spent the morning doing computer work at this cafe in Ely, and it was a wonderful experience! The quiche was delicious, as was the fruit and yogurt parfait. We also ordered a cinnamon chip muffin and drinks which were all very tasty. The atmosphere and space and all the details of this cafe were what stood out the most. There is merchandise for sale, thoughtful and lovely local decor, eclectic furniture, and a cozy cafe feel. The upstairs is a large room specifically for those who are getting computer work done and has beautiful windows overlooking the downtown. Overall a very nice visit to Northern Grounds in Ely.

Came here with my husband and 3 kids while visiting Ely for the first time, cute atmosphere with great seating. The service was slowish, but friendly. My kids didn’t care for the hot chocolate at all, but my hot chai tea was pretty good. Maybe a little over priced? Hot chocolate was $4.55. Pistachio muffin was tasty and moist!

I enjoyed the atmosphere especially for a small town coffee shop. The workers were nice and they had plenty of options but we weren’t impressed by the matcha drinks we got. Looking forward to going back next time we go to Ely and trying something else at Northern Grounds but was really hoping the iced matcha latte and the matcha lemonade were going to hit the spot on the hot day.

We were also disappointed with the lack of complete answers when we inquired. Asking what was available for wine, the answer was anything from $7 to $25. We were told that they just switched offerings. But we still didn’t know what we could order. We gave up on ordering wine and ordered cocktails. They tasted good but were half full glasses with mostly ice. I wouldn’t normally post an unflattering review, but their code on the on the receipt provided to give feedback wasn’t accepted. I only hope they take this as constructive feedback. People want to know what is available to order and what it costs before ordering. The bartender wasn’t particularly busy, just short with his answers. We requested that the cappuccino be served in a coffee mug versus a paper cup. After a very long, wait, the cappuccino was served in a paper cup and Luke warm, even though my husband watched them make it. We were very disappointed.

We split a couple of perfect pastries (maple walnut twist and raspberry chocolate scone) and a breakfast burrito. All were just wonderful! Nice ambiance and great service as well. What great way to start the day!

This is a cute little restaurant in the Ely lodge. It was convenient to be able to walk down stairs from our room to grab breakfast. I had the French toast with fruit ( the fruit was from the freezer mostly thawed, aka: mushy) the other person in my party had eggs, toast, bacon, and hashbrowns. He said his meal was good. It’s always a let down when there isn’t a pork alternative on the menu for breakfast. We were charged for 2 coffees we didn’t get. Our waiters words “my bad.” This coming from a 50 something yr old man. 🤔 I’m guessing from the good reviews their other meals of the day are good.

Food was pretty good (breakfast) and lovely staff. Cute cabin vibe. Would recommend! I had a skillet and french toast, both delicious. Omelet and Chicken fried steak was also. The pricing was also decent!

We stayed in the lodge for 4 days and ate here for dinner 3 out of 4 days. We really wanted to like this place but we were just disappointed. The first day we had amazing appetizers. The stuffed crab mushrooms and chicken wild rice soup were amazing! We ate breakfast here 3 out of 4 days as well and the breakfast was awesome every day! Unfortunately, that was it though sadly. Au gratin potatoes, stuffed walleye, steak, curly fries, pasta, fried clams, fried shrimp, they all lacked seasoning. Not to mention the fat on the steak wasn't even rendered. We ordered the chicken wild rice soup 3 times. The first night was great, the second night tasted just ok, and by night 3 you could tell the soup was simply "leftovers." Fried clams lacked actual clams and was mostly breading. Fried shrimp again had no seasoning. The staff were always the greatest though. Super friendly, attentive, just awesome people! The view of the lake is quite breathtaking this time of year. Fridays and Saturdays I would highly recommend reservations as it's quite busy and they fill up. You may be asking if we didn't like dinner then why did we keep going? Well unfortunately, this time of year in Ely, hardly anything is open in town unless you want Subway or Domino's every day. Like I said, due to the staff and the views and breakfast, we really wanted to like this place. But after trying almost half their menu, we unfortunately were left disheartened. Highly recommend this place for breakfast, the atmosphere, the staff, along with the views. But food-wise for dinner could be a lot better. Thank you for having us and being so sweet to our family. You have a great set of staff!

Evergreen restaurant is situated in the perfect spot in Ely. Awesome appetizers, beverages, and we stayed for dinner until sunset. We spent about 68 bucks and were completely full. This included two coffees, two drinks, appetizer mushrooms, surf and turf with walleye and Langostino lobster and pasta. Just awesome!

Busy place so you should make a reservation. But if you walk in, they have seating outside the restaurant in the hotel lobby, or in the bar. Either way, the service was decent and the food was excellent. Recommend the pan-fried walleye - probably the best walleye I've ever eaten. Looking forward to our return to Ely for a visit to the Evergreen.

I ordered the sirloin steak with Parmesan shrimp. The steak was very dry and tough. They were very busy, and although the server was trying hard to keep up with the orders it took over an hour to get our food and items were forgotten.

A short trail with a bit of attitude — roots snake across the path, rocks lie in wait, and your toes will need their wits about them. Much of the way follows an old portage route, and you can almost hear the echoes of paddles and footsteps from long ago. But then… the trees part, the air cools, and the falls appear — roaring, shimmering, worth every step.

What a great waterfall! I loved the hike back on the fall leaf lined trail! It’s very well marked and the .8 mile marked for round trip on the map is correct. Definitely swing in if you’re in the area to see this beautiful water fall!!

I wasn’t expecting much—but wow, Kawishiwi Falls blew me away! The hike was short and easy, but the view at the end was incredible. Way better than I imagined. Definitely worth the stop!

My wife and I visited Kiwishiwi Falls and were pleasantly surprised by the spectacular view of the falls. The trail is a moderately difficult walk, with rocks, tree roots and some inclines. There are great vantage points in which to view the falls, which were raging when we visited them. Kiwishiwi River falls is rich in history.

Beautiful waterfall not too far from the parking lot. Caution must be taken for the tree roots, and lose rocks while are along the tail. A must see if in the Ely, Minnesota area.

A very busy, but also very scenic waterfall. Easy short hike for us. Might be challenging for some. Very interesting learning about the history of the dam.

Absolutely stunning, from start to finish! The parking is plentiful and right off the highway with signs clearly marking the trail. There are port-a-potties on the side of the parking lot. The trailhead is clearly marked, and it doesn't take long to feel like you've stepped into somewhere truly magical. There are moss-covered boulders, and trees with exposed roots that seem to defy logic. The path has rocks and roots to watch for, so it's not a place to think you can get your heart rate up much, because you really should pause frequently and take in the beautiful scenery. There are a few ways to get to the riverside; we ended up coming out of the trees at a spot where there's a huge cement pillar with graffiti on it--- less than ideal, but a short scramble up some boulders past the pillar (these boulders are why I decided this hike could be considered "moderate") and the entire waterfall is visible, in all its rushing glory. It's fairly easy to get to different vantage points, and there are signs with information on the falls and the power plant around the bend. The waterfalls are simply gorgeous. They're loud and powerful and the white water against the dark granite is just stunning. The view down river, full of smooth rocks sitting along the river bottom, is just as picturesque. While this isn't the right hike if you have any sort of complication that would make a moderately easy hike harder, if you enjoy short, beautiful walks through the woods that end in a fantastic view, don't miss this one!

While in Ely for a hiking trip with a friend, we were recommended to try this deli. The food is incredible. Made with intention and love. Excellent flavors and combinations. We loved chatting with Sarah also. Her peanut butter oatmeal cookies were absolutely a favorite of mine! I dream about them daily. Highly recommend if you are looking to have an excellent meal in Ely. I can't wait to visit again, and maybe have some cookies shipped to home. Had a breakfast burrito, good flavor and looks healthy. Unfortunately the breakfast selections are all premade, so heated up in a microwave. A good option if you just want to grab something and go.

Great breakfast in this cute little deli. I had the monsieur ham sandwich which was so delicious! Homemade ginger ale and a fabulous carrot cake muffin with crispy bits in it! Staff was friendly and joyful!

She always asks for feedback & shows clear pride in the food they create. We were in Ely for a couple days and decided to pop into this place for breakfast — and it seriously had the best breakfast sandwiches ever!! We ended up going here for breakfast both days of our trip! They had good coffee too, and such a cute porch to eat at! 🙌 The Staff was also very friendly. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area!! ⭐️

Really cool place. I was expecting a larger more typical deli menu, but the food was delicious. It is kind of pricy and I think giving you a small salad as a side dish is a way to make you feel like you’re getting more than you are. The sandwiches are a good size, personally I didn’t need the salad dish so I wish I could’ve gotten just the sandwich for a few bucks less.

On a humid day in late August we stopped in for lunch. We shared a delicious sammi with a side of macaroni salad. And the sweet tea (yep, legit sweet tea in northern Minnesota) was tremendous. Super welcoming and friendly folks working made our visit that much better. Don’t sleep on Sheridan Street. It’s super neat. The End. ✌️🕺💃

Great bar and restaurant with big patio, live music, and good drink options. Thursdays they also do wood fired pizzas, unfortunately I didn't get one but they looked great. We had the wings, fries and meatball sandwich. All in all it was decent, the wings were a little chewy and the flavor didn't pop. But hey, it happens, still a good place to check out.

Fast and delicious. After getting turned away by Ely Steakhouse at 4:45 pm because their tables were all reserved for the entire night, we were very pleasantly surprised by Rockwood.

Music was fun, waitress was great. My wild rice soup was delicious and amazing. Walleye street tacos? Not so much. Dry and cracking tortilla with chewy fish. Husband got the walleye basket and liked it a lot, great cole slaw.

Smoked whitefish salad on naan bread was amazing! Live music with cozy outdoor ambience.

We were here before and after our BWCA trip. The smoked meats are wonderful! Had the Divine Swine and the smoked burger. Both were great. Loved the patio, the fast service and the friendly owners, Dan and Kathy. Next time I will try the wood fired pizza…it looked amazing! Oh, and a great beer selection.

Easy walk-up style ordering and seat yourself type of place. Their specialty is smoked meats, the bbq pork sandwich was excellent. We did order a side of Mac n cheese which was very mediocre. The cocktails are all interesting but on our visit the bartender was new and they were not mixed as good as they could have been.

Waited 20 minutes, in line when there were two people ahead of me, garbage can over flowing. The employee was great, however someone higher up is being cheap understaffing this location and stressing out employees.

It’s a clean and easy to find and easy to park at Subway. Food is what I would expect, and the prices are relatively reasonable. Bathrooms were also clean and the store has been recently remodeled it appears. Not sure what else there used to say!

We got breakfast subs with our 5 small children. The staff was SO KIND… They were incredibly efficient and helped us by cutting the sandwiches down for the kids and carrying them to the table. The woman and young man working were DELIGHTFUL. We will be back!

This place is fantastic. Give yourself over an hour here for sure, two would be better. It is more like an animal museum on the inside. It has endless displays, history, and info on all sorts of animals of the area. It has a decent bear viewing area both indoors and outdoors. We saw a couple of bears and some woodchucks. Also has a giant giftshop. This place was really done right.

Wonderful exhibit! Displayed animals are beautifully done. Live bears were healthy. I don’t like that four bears share 2.3 acres and some are caged part of the time but as the bears would have been killed otherwise the enclosure is better. They seem content enough. Video was excellent.

Love the bear center and the incredible staff, especially Spencer who worked with our school. He is so engaging and patient and knowledgeable. The bear walk is such a great experience and the museum is full of information! But my favorite part of this experience is hand feeding the wild birds.

I’m one of those people who says “I’m really spending this much money on this” and that’s how I felt when we went and the cost was $18 per person for a center just for bears but there is so much information a person can spend all day there and the guided tour to see the bears is great. They explain a lot about their bears in 20-30 mins while you get to see at least one of them up close. They also give a quick explanation on why you pay to see the museum/bears and how their nonprofit works. Definitely recommend to anyone visiting Ely.

Phenomenal experience and tour! Loved watching the bears eating and foraging. The staff was super knowledgeable and the exhibits were very detailed and informative. Easy way to spend an hour or two and learn all about bears and Minnesota! Highly recommend! Great tour Kade!

truly can’t recommend this place enough. i was here for hours- this place is extremely dense with information about north american bears and local wildlife around ely. it was an extremely pleasant surprise as many other similar experiences i’ve had focus more on exhibits with little additional information. there were also screens set up everywhere with shots of wild bears doing various activities, extremely interesting if you’re a bear fan! they had a few live bears with a big viewing area and optional free “backstage” tours where you get closer to the bear they have on rotation. i was lucky enough to see all three during my visit through the glass or backstage tour! it was so special. they announce when the bears are in view so you can always take a break from your tour and go and view the window or viewing deck. and during the backstage tour we got to see tasha having tub time !! it was a crowdpleaser for sure. they also occasionally announced a reptile/amphibian talk and i attended one led by Signe that featured a painted turtle! it was so fun, we got to learn a little about the turtle from signe and were able to ask any questions and then were actually able to hold the turtle! super cool experience. amazing shop for all ages.

The new Supper Club for 2022 is incredible! For the first day running the German food section, everything was very well prepared and some of the best German I've had (after growing up w/ German food my whole life!). Staff was very welcoming and friendly, and we had some fun banter teaching them some pronunciations of the German foods after we were practicing ourselves. Absolutely worth stopping by!

I recently stopped here for breakfast, and I’m so glad I did! I’m bummed I wasn’t able to grab lunch and dinner. My breakfast sandwich was delicious! I loved both the bacon and the sausage. This sandwich definitely filled me up for a long, active day. Service was great, we were seated right away outdoors. I highly recommend stopping at this gem in Ely!

Outstanding! I was looking at pictures from a summer trip to my cousins cabin in Ely and realized I had not given a shout out for the Moose. It is time for me to makes amends. The Chocolate Moose was the first place we went for breakfast during our stay in Ely. We were a party of 7 and choose to sit outside on the patio. If you have good weather, I always say, take advantage of it and dine outside. Katherine was our server and she was fabulous. She not only provided us with good service, but she was witty and gave good banter. I personally was in rare form that morning and she matched me wit for wit. It made for a fun breakfast. I was raised on a farm, so I love Biscuits and Gravy. When I saw that they made their biscuits in house and the gravy was a buttermilk recipe, I knew what I having for breakfast. The B&G came with two sausage patties and I knew it was going to be a busy day, so I added a side of two eggs scrambled to make it a hearty breakfast. OMG, the biscuits were fluffy and flakey and the buttermilk gravy was full of flavor and chunks of sausage. Loved it. My cousin sitting next to me enjoyed the, Bacon Benedict. It was an English Muffin topped with bacon and poached eggs and covered in "bacon fat' hollandaise. Now that is a "hollandaise" sauce worth treating yourself in the morning. It came with a side of, home fries. I sampled the sauce and it made me smile. Three of wanted mimosas and Katherine recommend the, Mimosa Bottle Special instead of single mimosas. When we followed her advice, she was kind enough and split the cost in thirds. Another reason we loved her. The bottle special is a carafe of orange juice and a full bottle of bubbles (champagne). Now that is how you should start a vacation breakfast. Let me close, sharing a note from the bottom of their menu - A 6% service fee is added to your bill to support a living wage for our back of house employees. Pursuant to Minnesota Statute Section 177.23 subdivision 9, it is not a substitute for tip or gratuity.

My breakfast burrito was delicious and my wife had the eggs Benedict. We can tell it was all homemade. We did our ordering with our phones just clicking on a QR code. Not including tips with a couple cups of coffee it was about $32. Historic restaurant name that they brought back. I would recommend it.

Stopped in just before noon for lunch, and was seated was seated quickly, choosing to eat outside on the patio. Our server was friendly, and food was brought out quickly. Burger looked amazing and tasted just as good, 10/10 would eat here again.

My partner is celiac (and will get sick for days) and the waiter and chef have been both knowledgeable, helpful and accommodating. We’ve now had breakfast & dinner there — both meals have been great and we really appreciate the service and feeling so welcomed there. Mustache guy is amazing, keep up the great work team 🌟

Went camping with a friend back in August of 2021 at the Fall Lake Campground and we went here to eat. Very delicious burgers! 10/10 would recommend this place!!

Just okay. It feels like they're making an effort, but it just didn't get all the way there. They boast of homemade noodles, but my shell pasta was watery and overcooked. The Alfredo sauce tasted more of chicken broth and Italian spices than cream and parmesan. This was true across the board. The food was filling and fine but not great. The portions are ridiculously large, so none of us are more than half, but none of us took leftovers.

Great pizza, fast and friendly service. Will definitely visit again the next time I'm in town

Sir G's stirs up a lot of fantastic, Northwoods nostalgia for me. It reminds me of a delicious pizza place in Eagle River WI that is now closed. Thankfully, Sir Gs fills that gap. We 3 had a large salad (with no cheese because we were ordering a pizza anyway), a large mixed topping pizza, garlic bread, and 2 bottomless, ice-cold, refreshing root beers. Nothing could have hit the spot more than this feast in a charming, family-friendly establishment. My only comment on food is that it could use a little more seasoning; the food was delicious but left the palate desiring a bit more. Can't wait to go back!

This place was a hot mess. They were clearly understaffed, but our waiter did his best. They didn't have any pop or beer because they were out of CO2 (Carbination), they were out of salad dressing, and had to check if they were out of chicken. They were out of many things. The pizza was ok, my daughter liked her Chicken Alfredo, but for the price, the food was not worth it. We would not be going there again. A waitress spilled salad dressing from the kitchen all the way to the back of the dinning area as she was walking, never cleaned it up so we had to make sure we didn't step in it when leaving the table. Overall not impressive or noteworthy.

Had dinner there last night. Salad excellent as always. But when our pizza came realize something was off with the sausage on the pizza. Turns out it’s pork sausage seasoned with Italian seasonings. It was awful. When the menu says Italian sausage you expect to get Italian sausage very disappointed.

We came out of the BWCA looking for a real meal and were super excited for pasta and pizza. The service was nice (Cindy was our server and she was really great!) but the food was so disappointing. The veggie pizza was decent- exactly what I expected, 6/10. The white sauce for the pasta had absolutely no flavor. The mozzarella sticks were fine, the breadsticks were fine. The salad was super low effort. They claim to use only the highest quality ingredients but in reality it is just massively overpriced freezer food at best. I feel bad because the service was good and the people were so nice and I really wanted to like this place, but the food is just so embarrassing. If you want pizza I would just go to Domino's. The pizza is better and it's way cheaper.

We were visiting Minnesota for the first time and stumbled across this restaurant after the other places we were told to check out were closed. We honestly are thankful they were so we didn’t miss out on this place. The staff was amazing and so kind to us. We had a young lady as our waitress who was a delight and went above and beyond for my daughters desire of tomatoes. The food came out hot and delicious, pizza is amazing and their chocolate cake is heaven in the mouth!! My kids begged to go back again the next day before heading back to our home state and that we did! We would absolutely drive from wherever we are in Minnesota to go back next time we visit. Highly recommend.

Nice park with benches, tables, and wide paved walkways. Events include Blueberry Festival, as well as fall and winter events. Farmers Market on Tuesday afternoons from June through September. Nice gardens, sculptures, and playground.

Very cute park, and super accessible for a small child (mine is 4). The restrooms were also very clean and well stocked.

DOG ARE NOT ALLOWED. Came for the blueberry festival and nothing said no dogs allowed. So now we are just sitting in someone's yard across the street.

Whiteside Park embodies the very essence of Ely! The spacious park provides ample room to run around or simply relish in the simple pleasures that nature affords.

Great park rt in town w a large playground and well kept lawn. Nice band shell. Clean picnic tables and Clean restrooms w running water and flush toilets. Also picnic pavilion and trees for shade. So friendly welcoming- just like the people of Ely ( just don’t bring your dog to the Farmers market)

Great experience! My grandparents visited Dorothy in 1960, so it was pretty neat to walk thru her cabins and see how she lived.

Take your kids! Put your bug spray on before you walk the self guided path. The mosquitos are hungry here. We enjoyed learning about a local legend. Cost was very reasonable. Buy some root beer to take home.

We stumbled upon this by accident. What a great find! The tour and staff were wonderful! Dorothy sounds like such an amazing human with such a lovely spirit and zest for life. We were so happy we stopped here. Definitely recommend!

Amazing that they were able to move Dorothy’s old buildings to this location. The exhibits themselves are very fascinating and include a ton of neat history about the time period and Ely area, and of Dorothy of course. The staff are also passionate about the museum and history!

Definitely worth a visit. Dorothy has an interesting history that reflects the evolution of the Boundary Waters over nearly a hundred years. Plus, root beer! She was a local legend and earned her beloved stature. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. We took the guided tour and enjoyed it. And the gift shop is great. KWITCHURBELIAKIN!

We have an electric powered chair for my quadriplegic nephew. The staff warned we would only be able to get into 2 of the three cabins but actually it was only accessible part way through one. They also knew the trails would not be accessible. When informed there wasn’t really any accessibility they apologized but no offer of refund for the fact we didn’t get to see anything. Also, the local grocery store sells cases of the same Root Beer for $10/less.

If you are in a wheelchair I do not recommend. If you have a manual chair you might manage to get into most of the buildings if you can get to them through the gravel. We had a powerchair, could only get into part of the 1st building. The back room had too small of a doorway. The second building you will need to make a sharp turn going up a step ramped step, with no room to line your wheelchair up. No turning radius. 3rd building they do state in their page is only 32 inches, so too small for our chair for sure. Even in a power chair we got stuck in the gravel trying to get back to the entrance to leave. It was basically a wasted trip and fee for us. If you don't have accessibility issues it's probably just fine.

Wish I would have took pictures, normally I dont give reviews much but was quite happy with the D4 special. Great taste, good portions and owners are good people. Would definitely return to try other dishes in the future.

By far the worst sweet and sour shrimp I have ever had. Could barely find the overcooked very small shrimp in the undercooked tasteless breading. Threw most of it away to avoid getting sick. Regret ordering to go as I didn't find out how horrible it was until I was 20 minutes away from the restaurant. Stay away from this place!!

Some of the best pho I have had. When we told them we would be taking it back to our campsite they even carefully prepared it and gave us instructions so that it would be perfectly cooked after a 5 minute reheat on a camp stove.

Absolutely horrible food ! That was the poorest excuse for food. Most went into the trash at the restaurant, what a disappoint with reasonable reviews of 4.2, it’s your gut, just keep in mind you’ve been warned !

We ordered about $90 worth of food. A few of the dishes were a little bland, however, we truly enjoyed the wonton soup and pad tai...some of the best I've ever had and I've eaten it at many places. All in all it's a good fix for this cuisine for the area. It would be nice if they were open for lunch and dinner though.

Probably the most iconic food place in Ely!!! It's one of if not they only fast food in town so whether you are heading in or out of the BWCA or looking for a quick meal, this will probably be your place.

I Was in Ely Minnesota and I’d just like to point out how absolutely disgusting the place was. Food all over the floor, liquid on the walls, certain things were not covered with lids, etc. They locked the doors at 8:53 which mind you is 7 minutes before they close. We tried to go through the drive thru and having been there a few minutes and no one spoke we left. Again, all before 9:00pm this happened. I’m very disappointed with the service. A few days before, we had come to this same Dairy Queen and there was again trash all over the floor in the back. Their attitude was poor, and in the future I hope to see employees actually doing their job, and not trying to get off early. Also, they told people to go out the back door so that they didn’t let us in. And there was a little girl crying because she didn’t get her ice cream which I’m sure could’ve taken you guys 4 seconds to make. I promise I’m not trying to make a big deal out of nothing, but it was extremely frustrating and a very bad experience. I forgot to include the store hours are 10am-9pm. Do your job please and actually satisfy customers instead of going out of your way to not do ur job. Also there was a girl on her phone and was literally not paying attention in the slightest. Have a good day and if u can avoid it please don’t come here. (Which I’m sure won’t be hard)

Tonight I ordered on the mobile app upon arriving i followed the procedure and asked the check out lady if my meal was ready she checked with the kitchen and was advised the food was ready but the ice cream wasn't made yet the lady asked the manger in grey if my ice cream was ready her response was "hell just have to wait" I waited it was busy no problem the problem came 15 min later when the cashier asked again about my ice cream and she looked at her and said we dont have it he will have to get a refund fine no problem but now my food had been sitting on the counter getting cold for 15min she told me to talk to the guy to get a refund on my mobile order and he said he would help me next he asked me for 24.99 I advised I already paid and he said yes but he had to open the ticket in order to open the refund and this was the only way he could do it. Stupidly I paid and come to find out there was no refund so I went back to the manager and her only response was to try to give me 5x $1 off coupons good only at that dq when I refused she stated "well I can't help you if you dont want help" how does $5 make up for the $25 extra i was charged let alone the cold food and horrible experience?

Wait in line 5 minutes or a half hour you will have cold fries. Completely relies on having a drive thru monopoly on this town. Go the grocery store deli, subways a joke too

Reviewing the burger restaurant, great indoor and outdoor seating with huge selection of burger creations. Every option we had was great and at least 1/2 lb. Wish we got a few more onion rings and fries on the side.

If you’re ever up in the Ely area and looking for a menu, that’s diverse with a lot of options. This is the place to go. Honestly, some of the best burgers I’ve ever had and you would never know unless you find this place on the beaten path in town. I first pulled up and I said no way but when I went in, I said hell yeah. The food was amazing.

We went to Stony Ridge for dinner tonight. NEVER AGAIN!!! Pre dinner drinks were mostly ice and expensive. Barely a taste of liquor. The food was terrible except for the onion rings and fries. I ordered a Rubin. No sauerkraut or corned beef to be found. Mostly toast and some sickening sauce. 7 people in our group with a variety of orders and everyone was disappointed. Expensive charge for a sub standard meal.

We make a point to visit the cafe every year we visit Ely! The burgers are large and VERY good. The menu offers a fun variety of creative burgers to try.

We were at the cafe at 1:30pm Saturday July 5th. Perhaps one of the busiest days of the year for a place like this, which is about 15 tables and 2-3 teenagers on staff in front. We waited over an hour for our food. In that time, the server never checked on us once, and we watched other tables arrive, eat and leave as we sat swatting mosquitos, starving. Our food ($170 order, 5 burgers and the fish) finally arrived, bagged in styrofoam, dropped on the table with no utensils, napkins or condiments. An additional fee of $1.50 per entree for 'takeout' was added to our bill. As we left, the manager claimed none of this was their fault, because they were busy. You might have a great time here, but I won't be back. There are plenty of other places to eat in Ely.

Humongous menu full of burgers. At least 45 different kinds, almost half pound burgers. Soda pop is a can. Burgers are 16 to 25 bucks with a side.

This is a great up north park. The highlights are the beautiful lake, scenic pines, and wonderful campground and day use area. It's really a good park for families. The campground is next to the lake so you can bring your boat right to it. It is also walking distance to the beach area. Trails are fun but limited and could be improved to highlight the lake more.

Great state park! We visited here for the first time and will be back. Kids 10, 8, 5, we tent camped. Spacious sites, plenty of little docks to bring kayaks and canoes, small little beach area, clean bathrooms and showers. Kayak, boat, and canoe rentals available for a good price. Friendly staff!

Quaking Aspen camping cabin was a wonderful way to enjoy our 5 days. Wirh lake access, we kayaked every day, hiked and grilled at our fire ring. The cabin was spacious, immaculate and private for these two older folks who needed to get away from the stresses of city living

Hands down one of my fave’s! Pristine park, campground is nicely maintained. We rented a paddleboard and kayak and that was easy and fun.

I tented overnight night at sight 6 and had a great time. Not too much traffic to the restroom which was only a couple sights away and close enough to the beach trail to the visitor center and trail head, where I took the Norberg Lake Trail. My sight had packed gravel with a layer of pine needles that created a soft pad for my Napier backroadz tent. I learned a Kayak around 2 o'clock and went around the north bay and across from the beach, it was a little windy and I had a long drive ahead of me so I returned it around 5:30. Renting for 4 hours is $16 and well worth it even for less time, you can also rent all day if you had more time and would like to explore the entire lake. I saw a few small deer while out on the Kayak. The stars were amazing! I was also pleasantly surprised that the visitor center had a microwave that was so clean I felt like I was the first one to use it! The beach area was perfect for a picnic as well!

Staff is absolutely amazing. Small town friendliness with great people. Course is beautiful for small town 9 hole club. Greens were fantastic, roll pure and in excellent shape. Some unique holes and elevation change. Definitely not a straight and flat track. Walkable with a bit of effort. Very cool how it dips into the woods, with some great views. Being picky here but a range and another 9 holes is about the best way to improve it but that’s probably out of the question being a small area. Highly recommend. This is better than a lot of public courses in bigger cities. And for the price it’s absolutely a value. Go around twice and play 18 because it’s not a course where you will get bored playing the same 9. Being your clubs when you head to Ely!

This place is really magnificent. Green is well maintained and my teenaged son lost his phone somewhere between home, the golf course, and Whiteside park. We called and the girl that we spoke with at the Clubhouse was very kind and helpful. She allowed us to use a golf cart to look for his phone on the golf course. We didn't find the phone unfortunately but it was refreshing to have an understanding person willing to help. Thank you!

It is a nice course, however not very beginner friendly at all. If you are trying to get into golf go to a different course.

Great experience with my 8 year old nephew there. Both in the shop and on the course. The course was also in better shape than I was expecting.........I will be back.

Very well maintained 9 hole course. Not too challenging but very fun. $40 currently for 9 and a cart.

As a Floridian visiting the area recently, I was pleasantly surprised to play on an interesting golf course. With family living up there, they indicated the tight fairways and that a person could lose a lot of balls. Well losing one golf ball was a pleasant surprise and the greens were in great shape. I would definitely play there again and the only slight down side to this course is that they only have nine holes. So people can play it twice.

We brought our two young daughters here And it was closed. The owner saw them try the door and she open the shop specifically for our girls to have some ice cream treats! Top class establishment! We will always be back!

Northern Expressions is the kind of place you stumble into and immediately feel like you’ve found buried treasure—except instead of gold, it’s ice cream and malts (which is honestly better). It’s connected to an adorable gift shop packed with trinkets you didn’t know you needed until now. The line looked intimidating at first, but moved faster than my self-control around dessert. The ice cream was amazing, and the malts? Life-changing. Everything we tried was a hit. Bonus points for the tiny kid-sized table—it’s like they knew our toddlers would need a throne. 10/10, would stand in line again.

The 10,000 flavors order was hilarious!! Employees were super friendly and happy to help.

The “rich and famous” flavor is some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had! They also have a cute little table for kids, my 2yr old loved it!

Great ice cream shop, great flavors, and for prices. Had a nice little indoor area and benches outside. As a side bonus it's shaded outside I'm the afternoon. Malts looked good, but we'll have to try another time.

20+ ice cream flavors makes it hard to choose what to get, and they also have unique shake and sundae options. Always get a great treat there

If I could rate this lower I would. The new ownership has let the standards for customer service drop immensely. The quality of clothing has also tanked. Unfinished edges on the inside of the newer vests, compared to older vests, make the new ones look poor quality and do not justify the price. I also have to say the customer service I experienced means I will never shop here again. I had called on a multitude of occasions to try and make a payment for my custom garment, because their online system was down. At the time of ordering there was an 8 week wait. Great. Just in time for Christmas! Yay! Did not receive a call back about payment until five days after Christmas. I just got it in the mail after they apparently lost the ability to return a phone call on several crucial steps WHERE ALL OF THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED. Whatever, at least I’m getting what I ordered, right? I had called to make a sizing change on the custom peice before they had sent thinking no biggie, I’ve done that in the past. Apparently “the person in charge of production didn’t want to” no matter how much I begged or asked if I could pay an upcharge of 100$+. This was also told to me after they cut it after not returning my phone calls for WEEKS prior ABOUT THIS. I called and apparently they lost my voicemails (unlikely) and they didn’t call me back after it was cut but before it was sewn. It was the last of the teal fabric for the Hansen hoodie. I was told it was “Impossible to recut, sorry.” No problem, I thought, this is on them, they usually make things right! They refused to cut it down by hand, something I’ve seen them do several times as I used to work there! High level customer service after they did not call me back for weeks at a time wasn’t a priority of the company at this time. I had called probably ten times and only after they cut it did they call me back. In my opinion their clothing is not worth the price anymore. I used to be a die hard customer. I used to work there. After this I will never buy another thing from them unless they make it right with me (which I doubt would ever happen) Me and my family have probably spent $5000+ here at this business because we believed in the quality of the products and the fact that they were made in the USA. You have done nothing to try and rectify this situation. I am asked all the time about my Wintergreen pieces. I won’t be able to recommend your company in good conscience anymore. You had a lot of good stuff they you got rid of for ridiculous products. Terrapins were the best thing you ever sold. So was the Hygge. It would have been better to retire the Hygge until you figured out a better fabric. Your wait times used to be worth waiting for, back when the quality was worth anything.

Expensive. Downstairs is much smaller and closed off from what I remember years ago. However, it’s the best of the best for winter gear. If you want the best you pay for it but only have to pay once. You won’t be disappointed. Upstairs shop is cute and well organized and staff were very kind.

I ordered the Womens Anorak in a size M based off of description and sizing. Unfortunately, it was tight around my hips. I immediately contacted Wintergreen and I was very surprised with their customer service! They were very willing to work with me and I was able to send the coat back and in turn get a size L. The turnaround time was very quick. Great company and customer service!

My wife absolutely loves her anorak and it is very warm and great looking. The only problem is a defective zipper that malfunctioned after wearing it for only 3 months. I understand that it has been a year since we purchased it but it still looks like new and as I mentioned has had very little use. Now we have to pay for a new zipper plus shipping both ways. Disappointing.
