Outer Island Excursions - Whale Watching Tours & Fishing Charters

Outer Island Excursions offers a variety of whale watching tours departing from Anacortes. The Triton, captained by Clint, provides an unforgettable experience for families and individuals alike. Guests have the opportunity to witness a diverse range of marine life including sea lions, seals, harbor porpoises, sea otters, blue herons, and orcas. The knowledgeable crew members ensure a comfortable and informative journey through the islands while sharing insights about the local wildlife.
I booked the Orcas Only tour with Outer Island Excursions and had an outstanding experience. The boat was brand new, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable. I called the office directly, and they matched the best price I could find online. Communication was excellent, with clear tour details provided by email and staff always available by phone to answer questions. The naturalists on board were knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about what they do. Captain Brock was amazing, navigating the waters skillfully and making the trip both safe and exciting. A professional, well-run operation that I would happily book with again.

We booked our whale watching excursion out of Orcas Island on 9/24/25, and it was an unforgettable experience. My wife and I had an absolute blast with Tiffany and Jarrett, who made the trip fun and memorable. We were lucky enough to see several orcas, including watching them feed from a distance and even breach the surface a few times. Truly a bucket list experience we’ll never forget, thank you!
Nick O — Google review
My family booked a private whale watching tour and I could not have better things to say about this company! Drew & Sophia took us out - they were fun, professional, knowledgeable and super upbeat. We had an incredible time - we followed a pod of orcas for the majority of the trip - mind blowing! Sophia & Drew fielded a million questions from us and not once did we feel overbearing. Outer island excursions is HIGHLY recommended by us and we will definitely book again next time we are in the area. Definitely pack for the weather and plan to bring snacks if you need. Their shop also sells snacks and cold beverages. Our boat had a bathroom and I am unsure if all boats do so definitely ask! Some of our group was weary of the 4hr time frame and it blew by! It definitely did not feel too long - perfection all around!
Emily L — Google review
Amazing experience, the crew and captain were very friendly and did everything to make it interesting and exciting for everyone. If you decide to go, be sure to dress warmly, it is very windy and cold. We saw whales and many other animals and birds, I will definitely come back with my children!
Alla P — Google review
I took a trip after the summer season and it was an amazing experience! It was a bright and sunny day and the whales were plentiful! I highly suggest you visit Outer Excursions for whale watching among other excursions like bird watching! The crew was exceptionally knowledgeable about the marine life. I recommend this adventure for anyone looking for a fun time while visiting the Salish Sea!
Selina D — Google review
I live on the Salish Sea and have seen more marine life from shore than I did on this tour. Yes, we technically did see whales — but they were very far away, visible for only about five minutes, and the experience felt strangely disconnected from nature. It was hard not to notice the irony of traveling so far out on a massive, noisy boat blasting repetitive music, only to see whales briefly from a distance. When we booked, the listing suggested a smaller boat, but we ended up packed onto a large vessel with far more people than expected. Between the crowding and the loud party atmosphere, it felt like the focus was on selling an experience rather than actually connecting with wildlife. Everything was an upsell — $10 for binoculars, $8 for parking, and additional charges onboard for even basic drinks, all on top of the $119 per person ticket. They even sold alcohol, which only added to the “party boat” vibe. There were three “Naturalists” on board, but most of their time was spent serving drinks. When they did share information, it was minimal and surface-level (“Look, that’s a sea lion”). The captain also came on near the end to suggest tipping the crew 20% of the ticket price — a strange request after such an underwhelming outing. As someone who spends a lot of time on the water and wanted to give my partner a meaningful wildlife experience, this was a big letdown. The whole thing felt loud, commercial, and out of step with the natural world we were supposedly there to appreciate. If you want a truly nature-centered and respectful encounter with marine life, I highly recommend Vancouver Island Whale Watch instead. Their tours are quiet, educational, and genuinely focused on the animals — you’ll 100% get what you pay for there. I’m adding an edit since the owner decided to respond to this post - check out the Glassdoor reviews if you are considering booking with this company. I deeply regret supporting this company and a person who treats their employees with such disregard. Also, knowing that there are safety issues with the boats makes me feel even worse about this entire experience.
Naomi B — Google review
A MUST DO activity for any trip to the San Juan Islands! We saw orcas, sea otter, seals, sea lions, eagle and enjoyed the cruise on the speedy and comfortable boat. The boat had large sliding flexiglas windows for a 360deg view while shielding you from the elements. Very cool. Captain Chaz and naturalist Sam were friendly and knowledgeable. The crew has great respect for the animals. A great family friendly experience for anyone who like nature and the sea!
Andy D — Google review
My wife and I went on a bird watching tour with Trevor and Sophia and had a wonderful time. The weather didn't exactly cooperate, but the birds certainly did. We were able to see numerous Tufted Puffins as well as several other more common species. We even saw one of the two Otters that hang out around Smith Island having a bit of Lunch. Thanks the Trevor and Sophia for a great time and their expertise in getting us on the birds!!

The Mansion Restaurant at Rosario Resort & Spa is a charming waterfront dining spot on Orcas Island, offering seasonal American cuisine and a selection of beverages. Situated on the original veranda of the Moran Mansion, it provides casual dining with picturesque views of Cascade Bay. The property holds historical significance as the former home of Robert Moran, a prominent Seattle Shipbuilder. Guests can make reservations online to enjoy this unique dining experience.
Really amazing cocktails and food! Was recommended by our B&B host at otters pond and way exceeded our expectations. We had the halibut tartare and local greens salad, with duck breast and pan seared halibut. Complex, interesting flavors, and well prepared with fine attention to detail. We had two cocktails, then ordered another once we tasted the first ones! Some of the best drinks we’ve ever had anywhere, creative, well balanced, and unique. Add to that the setting, in the Moran mansion house, with dramatic views over the water, this can’t be beat!

Orcas Island is a favorite of ours. We visit at least once a year in February as a break from the winter weather at home. Most trips, we visit Rosario and the Mansion, because it is such a beautifuland historic spot. The Mansion changed hands a few years ago and another sale has just been completed. We are hopeful that will bring it back to the 5 star restaurant it should be. The main dining room has been closed for years, but is more impressive than the hallway where the restaurant serves these days. The food is still delicious, but the atmosphere and service have declined. Let's hope our next visit takes it back to the stellar level it should be.

Gorgeous views from the windows of the Rosario Mansion Restaurant, but nothing to write home about in terms of service. We stayed at the Rosario for a milestone wedding anniversary and made a reservation at the Mansion Restaurant for our anniversary dinner a month in advance of our stay. Staff made no mention of our celebration, and were at a bare minimum with interactions throughout our meal despite there being almost no other tables filled during the time we were dining. Never once asked if we enjoyed any of the 3 courses we ordered. We absolutely loved our stay on the island and will be back, but will not be dining at the Mansion Restaurant for a special dinner in the future. When spending $200+ on dinner, guests should be treated with service that equates to the cost, and special celebrations should be acknowledged - this is basic 101 hospitality knowledge. The menu had a great variety if you’re a meat eater. We opted to start with the Smoked Halibut Dip - wonderful comfort dip with great balance of fish, cheese, and herbs. Shared the Grilled Pear & Burrata Salad - oddly this salad had no grilled pears. We could not figure that piece out, but otherwise was a delicious salad. Both of us ordered the Brodetto di Pesce as our entree - if you don't love spice, do not order this pasta! Nowhere does the menu mention hot peppers/chili being used in the tomato & garlic sauce, but our mouths were on fire. A great variety of seafood in the pasta, but felt more like a soup than a seafood pasta. Overall, gorgeous presentation of food, but not worth the hype for the price and service.

We stumbled across this resort as we were planning on just fueling up our boat. We decided to get a slip and stay. This resort was quaint and relaxing. The history of this area is amazing- restaurant located inside the mansion museum. This restaurant was so good. They had the best crab cakes we had on the islands so far. The pork sliders were unlike any I have had. I had the salmon with bacon onion relish and my husband had the newyork strip steak. His brussel sprouts were slightly undercooked but overall the meal was still great. My meal was perfect. Gary was our waiter. He was pleasant and fun to chat with. The view was amazing.

Visiting Rosario was a step back in time for me as I had worked there back in the 60s. While there have been several additions that could have been better designed to fit the original architecture the place is still magnificent. The lodge has wonderful interior woodwork. The library with it's pipe organ is a grand place. The grounds looked great.

We've stayed at the Rosario Resort a number of times over the years. Generally good experiences. This time around staff went above and beyond to make mealtimes a positive experience. Staff were friendly and hard working. They were very understaffed for breakfasts, which impacted the timeliness of service, but that was at no fault of the servers. Food and drinks were good. Mostly pleased with our experience and applaud the serving staff and cooks for their dedication and care.
Sarah-Marie A — Google review
I have been coming here for years and now I like it even more. Their food and drinks seem to be better than before. The restaurant has a beautiful view of the bay. You can take a walk around the campus, look at the museum, and come in for a nice lunch/dinner or drink. They also offer a nice brunch. I stayed here many years ago and was not too impressed with the room because is pretty out of date, Look like an old apartment got converted into a resort. They do have a pretty nice balcony overlooking the bay and their outdoor heated pool is nice.

Wonderful food, service and ambiance. We had the crab cake benedict which we shared and it was perfect. This resort is 122 years old and is impeccably maintained. Food is on the pricey side, but is delicious.

Brown Bear Baking is a charming bakery located on Main Street, offering small-batch French pastries, breads, and sandwiches alongside coffee drinks. It's the perfect spot to grab a pre-hike coffee and indulge in their delectable pastries like the flaky kouign-amann and gooey sticky buns. The bakery provides a quaint space to enjoy these treats before heading out for island adventures.
Very cute bakery, lots of delicious options. Great for a quick breakfast, everything is ready right when you order. Interior is cute and cozy, not a lot of seating inside in the winter but it would be easy to take your food to go as well. Quiche and orange morning bun were delicious!

Everything at Brown Bear is amazing, including the owners and staff. Recently gluten-free I found that they do offer a tasty gluten-free berry muffin and their Turtleback Trail cookie (wheat free) is memorable. Get them early, they sell out! A trip to Orcas Island isn't complete without visiting Brown Bear Bakery.

We visited Brown Bear every morning on our recent trip to Orcas. We particularly enjoyed the quiche and croque monsieur paired with a new pastry every morning. The garden is a lovely place to enjoy your breakfast, but we also found ourselves entranced at the small bar inside where you can watch the kitchen staff at work (where are my GBB lovers at?). It was a delight watching the bread being shaped, pastries filled and decorated, and the chaos of the kitchen executed like a dance. Both owners made a point of chatting with us and were extremely kind. We can’t fault such a lovely establishment and hope to return someday!

TLDR; the best croissant in Washington We came in a quick bite not expecting much but were absolutely blown away by how good the croissants and coffee is here. They’re the Goldilocks of croissants - just flaky enough, just buttery enough, just soft enough. I cannot tell you how hard it is to find one that checks all the boxes. We tried the plain croissant, ham and cheese croissant and the pain au chocolat- all of them were absolutely incredible. We tried the mocha (one iced and one regular) and that was super good too - not over sweet, no hint of bitterness, absolutely smooth and silky. There are lines to order throughout the day but thankfully they do move fairly quickly.
Pooja C — Google review
You step inside the rustic and welcoming bakery and you immediately feel warm and cozy. Then you wait in line to order, are immediately given the food items from your order so you can go find an open table to sit and eat… drinks are picked up at the far end of the bar. There is a small number of tables/seats inside… but a decent number of seats outside. Right by the cash register (that you order at) is a display of all the pastries, croissants, quiches, and croque options. The croque options here are unique in that they are open faced on one large slice of bread (rather than in sandwich form) and have roasted asparagus & no bechamel. There were three of us and we ordered the ham & leak quiches for dine in, and a couple pastries to enjoy after the quiche were finished and then also a couple things to go. I was very impressed by everything we got. The ham & leak quiche is rich & full of flavor but also still very light and delicate. The almond fruit crumble is amazing: it’s light, rich, but mildly sweet and the crumble topping is a nice addition of texture and savory sweet. The sides are kind of a cut off and toss though, as they are overcooked. I’d order a center piece on my next visit, rather than a border piece from the tray. The currant scone was also a big hit. The scone is very mildly sweet which is such a nice change from the overly sweet everything in America. There’s a sugar dusting on top which gives the scone a nice crunch and also just the right amount of sweetness to the treat. I would definitely come back to try other items and also to watch the baked goods being prepared and baked, as the kitchen is entirely open and in full view from anywhere inside the establishment. 11/10 recommend.

the pastries were amazing ! The latte was super disappointing. It was only one shot of espresso for a large lavender latte (watched them make them :/ ) and did not taste like lavender (or coffee) at all. All my friends who ordered lattes also felt it was just milk. Get the pastries, find coffee elsewhere !
Madeline C — Google review
Got a pain au chocolat and orange morning bun. Both were very dry and flavorless. The pain au chocolate had sooo much bread and two thin toothpaste strips of chocolate. Proportion of bread to chocolate was completely off. Orange morning bun was so dry. You know when you eat mediocre bread and think, “this is a waste of calories.” Well this is your place.
Liz Y — Google review
Quaint little cafe with delicious baked goods. The staff were all super friendly and decked out in rainbow tie dye shirts. Everything I tried (and I went there multiple times) was tasty. I particularly enjoyed the bear claw, savoury mushroom pasty, and the almond berry coffee cake. The lamination on the pastries was sublime, you can tell these guys know what they’re doing. I liked that they served the savoury pastries with a side salad. Coffee was great too. Limited indoor and outdoor seating available. There were long lines on the weekend.

Nestled along the picturesque Eastsound, Darvill's Book Store is a beloved independent bookstore that has been welcoming visitors for over 35 years. The store offers a diverse collection of books, including works by local authors and classic literature. A hidden gem within the store is the coffee bar tucked away in the back, where visitors can enjoy a delightful selection of beverages.
What a lovely little bookstore, with helpful and kind staff. Located right in downtown Eastsound, it’s a fun stop when you’re out perusing the shops. We were delighted to find a very cute book and a ferry box of chocolates to take home to our son. Very nice book selection for all ages and interests.

Very nice selection of books, but the coffee shop was the star of the show for me. They have a unique offering of blended drinks with flavor combinations that think way out of the coffee box. I recommend the Hot Stella. Don't be afraid of the chipotle. It's just enough to balance the sweet cinnamon and maple with a hint of smokiness that leaves a little warm tingle in the back of your throat. Our group each ordered a different item and they all received rave reviews. I give it five beans!

Perfectly curated, warm and inviting. Every time I come here I always find a whole pile of books I’m interested in that I never would have found otherwise. Anytime I enter another bookstore, I’m always disappointed it’s not more like Davil’s… This is a must stop when visiting Orcas island!
Colt W — Google review
The local bookstore of my dreams! A little bit of everything book wise - even a few craft books, a section not often found in indy bookstores. Everything is very well displayed, easy to browse and very attractive. Good selection of cards, local products and gifts too. As if that wasn't enough, there's also a coffee bar with a view, nice seating, baked goods, super friendly staff and THE BEST VIEWS! It doesn't get any better than this. I'm moving in.
Joanne — Google review
The shop is small, but it’s the good kind of small — cozy without being cramped, intimate without feeling cluttered. The floors are creaky wood, the walls are lined with shelves that go nearly to the ceiling, and there’s a soft indie playlist drifting in the background that somehow makes everything feel slower — in the best way. The selection is clearly curated with care. It’s not about overwhelming you with every title under the sun — it’s about guiding you gently toward something you didn’t know you were looking for.

Whether you're looking to unwind after exploring the island or simply want to savor some delicious bites, The Barnacle offers a unique atmosphere that captures the essence of coastal living.
Great upscale cocktail lounge. Had a “90 days of August” which was fantastic. Love the intimacy of this small bar. We were there late so had already had dinner but their cheeseboard menu looked great. Proprietor was a snappy dresser and gave a sophisticated air to the place. Highly recommend.

Adorable cocktail bar! Great for a couples night out or small group. A great menu with lots of variety for everyone, and delicious unique house cocktails. Menu is seasonal so there will always be something new and interesting, but be aware that the drinks you see in pics online may no longer be on the menu! May be a wait in the winter since the interior is small. Highly recommend!

I really loved the atmosphere, and the staff were so kind and friendly! I got the Mezze Plate (the menu changes tho) and they were happy to accommodate my allergy/vegan diet. Everything was amazing, and I could not get enough of the local rosemary and sea salt crackers! They might not always have vegan options, but they are kind and you should not hesitate to ask. 💗

Yum. The Barnacle’s drinks and snacks may hijack your dinner plans. You could end up having too many bites and heading out for ice cream after. The cocktails sparkle, the spreads impress, and the décor makes it feel like your coolest friend’s living room. They also provide games to unplug with loved ones. She’s a winner, baby!

Nestled in the charming town of Eastsound on Orcas Island, Matia Kitchen is a culinary gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. This vibrant eatery has taken over the former Monti restaurant space and boasts a spacious 3,900-square-foot layout featuring an open kitchen design. Guests can indulge in exquisite tasting menus crafted by the talented chef Avery Adams at a cozy seven-seat counter.
We had a phenomenal experience. The menu (which changes) is incredibly inventive (see sample menu posted). We were treated very well by our sever and all the staff. Our server had a masterful knowledge of the menu and answered our questions in a friendly and down to earth manner. The best way to enjoy the food is to order a number of plates and share. This is a high-end establishment best suited for couples or small groups of adults. We didn't drink, but the bar is super cool looking. Great menu, great atmosphere, great staff, great service.

We finally made. Our family of five dinned at Matia’s Kitchen. Everything was delicious. The staff was wonderful and walked us through all the items platted. Each one better than the other. The Mochi Potato Fries were my favorite then the prawns and sourdough toast was unexpected with multiple layers of texture and flavor. The artwork has inspired me to paint again. So happy to explore what Washington has to offer.

Good but nothing exceptional. Pork ragu rigatoni was mediocre. Prawn toast was pretty good but didn’t taste like prawn. Wine was amazing. Cocktails were interesting. My partner loved the clams although I thought they were a little flavorless. The baked potato ice cream was amazing! I’d come back just for that dessert.

We've been fortunate to eat at quite a few of the world's 3 star/Pellegrino list restaurants and Matia is right up there with the best of them. The food was absolutely fantastic, showcasing regional and hyper local ingredients, with some gorgeous global wine pairings. The service was on point, but also friendly and relaxed. The vibe is cool and the bar space is dark and sexy. 10/10 will go again.

Booked a reservation in the 21+ lounge for 4. Don’t be discouraged if it seems booked up online - we saw several people seated readily as walk-ins! All of our food choices were great and the service friendly and attentive!

We enjoyed the 10-course tasting menu for our anniversary dinner. The menu was very unique and inventive and a few of the dishes absolutely blew us away, but many left us a little confused. Platings were beautiful and thoughtful. The atmosphere is lovely, staff was kind and attentive, and sitting at the chefs table is entertaining. Many times the kitchen staff could hear us asking each other questions about what we were consuming and they were always happy to break down the dish again and give us extra info. It is spendy, but for a special occasion, this is a fun stop for an adventurous eater!

we had the most phenomenal meal last year on the cooks side. as a chef by trade i enjoyed chatting with them about the wine pairings (best i've ever had) and the food- and the food was delicious. this year we opted for the bar side and had the worst service i think i've had anywhere; drinks arrived 20 minutes after we finished eating- 45 minutes after ordering. and at the end asked if we wanted to order dessert drinks? well- no... the food was incredible as always. the chefs there are so very tuned in. drinks were not good. if the apps are too small for one person to eat one, the size of them should be increased; it was weird to order and be told i should order two of each. if you know the drinks in the bar are behind 40+ minutes, and you should know, consider offering your patrons complementary wine to sip with their meal- having room temp water with my food at a fine dining restaurant with a reservation.. and recieving them 20 minutes after we put our fork down should be an automatic comp. is there nobody else in the establishment who could make a drink or paying attention to help expedite the bartender? i would never make this sort of review but at this price point these sort of things are very basic and expected- the service and experience is the product. in the future, we'll stick to hanging out with the BOH staff who took care of us incredibly well, were friendly, versed, and down to earth.

Nestled on Orcas Island, Matia Kitchen is a delightful new gem that has quickly made waves in the culinary world. Celebrated for its innovative seasonal dishes crafted from local ingredients, this restaurant offers a menu that highlights vibrant vegetable creations alongside enticing meat options. Picture savoring an ancient grain panisse paired with earthy mushrooms or indulging in lamb pancakes complemented by gochujang creamed cabbage.

Booked a reservation in the 21+ lounge for 4. Don’t be discouraged if it seems booked up online - we saw several people seated readily as walk-ins! All of our food choices were great and the service friendly and attentive!

we had the most phenomenal meal last year on the cooks side. as a chef by trade i enjoyed chatting with them about the wine pairings (best i've ever had) and the food- and the food was delicious. this year we opted for the bar side and had the worst service i think i've had anywhere; drinks arrived 20 minutes after we finished eating- 45 minutes after ordering. and at the end asked if we wanted to order dessert drinks? well- no... the food was incredible as always. the chefs there are so very tuned in. drinks were not good. if the apps are too small for one person to eat one, the size of them should be increased; it was weird to order and be told i should order two of each. if you know the drinks in the bar are behind 40+ minutes, and you should know, consider offering your patrons complementary wine to sip with their meal- having room temp water with my food at a fine dining restaurant with a reservation.. and recieving them 20 minutes after we put our fork down should be an automatic comp. is there nobody else in the establishment who could make a drink or paying attention to help expedite the bartender? i would never make this sort of review but at this price point these sort of things are very basic and expected- the service and experience is the product. in the future, we'll stick to hanging out with the BOH staff who took care of us incredibly well, were friendly, versed, and down to earth.

Fantastic evening to celebrate my wife and I's wedding anniversary. Fizz, Cocktails, house salad, Washington State 🍷, vegetarian spaghetti and the local clams were outstanding. You must save room for the olive oil cake!! Service was spot on.

The White Horse Pub is a charming Irish-English pub nestled in downtown Eastsound on Orcas Island. It offers a delectable selection of Irish, English, and American cuisine, with standout dishes like fish and chips and local seafood during the summer months. The pub also boasts an array of spirits, beer, and wine to complement your meal. Visitors can enjoy a picturesque view of the bay while soaking up the classic Irish pub atmosphere complete with sports playing on multiple screens.
What a view! The food was solid Irish pub fare (we had the fish and chips and a salad) and the Guinness was poured to perfection. I sadly have forgotten our bartenders name, but he had a great sense of humor and made us feel welcome straight away. We also had fun playing the games set out by the bar near the window. A great way to kick off our trip to Orcas Island

Such a fun place with good food! We got the calamari, I got the crab melt, clam chowder and husband got the chicken pot pie. All the food was very delicious! I really loved the calamari! My husband also got the cream soda and loved it! Our server was super friendly - he called everyone “friend” and answered my silly questions about whales. It was a great experience and we even saw a sea lion! This place also accommodates larger groups! There was a group of 12 also in the restaurant. Not too loud!!

We hosted my Mom's 80th birthday here at lunch on a Monday. It was fantastic! The food was excellent, service wonderful and prices reasonable. We had 21 people and WHP handled it beautifully. I don't live on Orcas, but my mom does and they accommodated us beautifully.

Omg!! The best food and the service was so homey and friendly! Like I'd been going there for years and it was my first time. What a beautiful experience

Our lunch was so good we went back the next day for dinner. We had the calamari both days, one of the best calamari dishes I've ever had, and I order a lot of calamari. I had the cod fish and chips the first day and the honey crisp salad with blue cheese the next night. My mom had their crab melt for lunch and a fish salad for dinner, both meat, both delicious. Super friendly staff and great views.

You need to eat at The White Horse pub. Yes. If you are going to Orcas Island, you need to stop here for a meal or a drink. June 2025, on the island 3 nights, so far 2 meals at the White Horse. Chicken pot pie, fish and chips, Irish stew, bacon cheeseburger, fries, onion rings, salad. Could not have asked for better. Two different waiters. Both raised the bar on my standards. One more day on Orcas. One more meal at the White Horse. Did I mention the view?
Steven P — Google review
White Horse is a solid dining option on the island. Our server was super friendly and helpful, and the overall atmosphere was very chill when we went in. Our drinks came out quick and were delicious, my Mango Tango Mule was well made. The food is great as well, it also arrived quick and was a perfect portion size for the price. The shepherds pie especially was very good. Music wasn't too loud to enjoy conversation, the place is interestingly decorated and has a very welcoming vibe overall. Definitely recommend for anyone visiting the San Juans!
Holden T — Google review
We went on the reviews of others that the fish and chips was so good. Maybe for Eastsound? Fish was overly battered and greasy. Fries were cold. Drinks were good and the highlight of this place is the view. I wouldn't recommend the food or the marginal service but for a drink and watch the cove, delightful.

Roses Bakery Cafe is a popular American cafe on Orcas Island, offering a menu featuring sandwiches and pizzas. The cafe is attached to a gourmet shop that sells local goat cheese, cinnamon swirls, and artisanal pig product-themed T-shirts. While closed on Sundays and Mondays, the cafe's fresh pasta specials are highly recommended. Visitors rave about the super-thin crust pizzas topped with creamy cheese and the English Pea Hummus Sandwich.
Roses is my favorite spot on Orcas Island, among very good company of other lovely restaurants. I rue the days they’re closed (Sundays and Mondays) and have been known to plan a trip around their hours. Fresh pastas are often specials on the lunch menu, with homemade, perfectly cooked noodles in plentiful portions. I always get the pasta, in addition to whatever else my friends and I share. Their thin crust pizzas are delightful — flavorful but never heavy, with interesting flavor combos incorporating seasonal ingredients. Always, there’s at least one vegetarian option if you’re into that sort of thing. At breakfast, the potato nest is a must: a giant hashbrown with crispy edges and a creamy center of soft potatoes. It’s served with poached eggs and Serrano ham. Their pies and other sweets are also worth making room for, or taking with you when you go. If you have a Sunday ferry, I recommend snapping up sandwiches to go from the gourmet shop attached when you’re there on Saturday. Enjoy!
Julia W — Google review
This is probably the best pizza in the San Juan Islands! Super-thin crust topped with delicious creamy cheese is amazing! I also had their pea hummus and Gouda sandwich with ham, and it tasted amazing! The ham was a little stringy, almost like undercooked bacon, but otherwise was great! Definitely recommend this place for an upscale lunch/dinner!

The Cucumber side is delish a dose of spice with the crisp of cucumber add in a touch of tart with the Champagne vinegar. The English Pea Hummus Sandwich is mouth watering!!! The bread adds crunch to complement the smooth hummus. Went back two times in a row it was so good!!

We came here for lunch on the recommendation of a friend, and the food was very good. The bakery is attached to the restaurant portion, and it makes for a nice ambience. However, both my wife and I felt there was a marked vibe of pretentiousness. While the food was good, our server took our order, delivered our food, and we never saw her again. Another server delivered the check. In fairness, they are hiring for new servers, so perhaps they were just understaffed. The ingredients appear to be locally sourced, and they have some unique offerings. If you are into upscale dining, you may enjoy eating here. We just felt the place was a bit "stuffy" in an island location where laid back and amiable, even if upscale, appears to be more of the norm.
Steve M — Google review
Great food and friendly staff. They surprised us with some kid friendly options for our four year old which was great. He inhaled the butter noodles with parmesan. The pizza was delicious and my wife's blt looked really good. I'd definitely come back again.

Love it, high quality food. I go here every time I'm on Orcas. Down side can be price- $9 for a small slice of Pumpkin pie feels unreasonable... also, I can't be positive, but I think I got food poisoning from the last time I ate there..,my group shared meals except for what I got from Roses and I'm the only one that got sick 🤢.

Guests can enjoy their meals on the outdoor patio while taking in the charming surroundings. With its homey atmosphere and delicious cuisine, Mijitas Mexican Kitchen is a must-visit for those looking to experience authentic Mexican flavors on Orcas Island.
We sat outside and it had a very warm and cozy atmosphere. They offer blankets if you’re cold. Our server was super on top of it and attentive despite it being busy. My husband and I weren’t super hungry and shared the chicken enchilada and beet salad. Both were very tasty and the perfect portion size! Highly recommend!

We had a 6 PM reservation Saturday in June that happened to coincide with the high school graduation. We saw there were several families dining together. We were seated outside pretty swiftly, but it took quite some time for the servers to even bring us water and then chips & salsa. We do understand it was a busy weekend and evening, so no worries! When the food was delivered, it was absolutely worth it - as my salad with grilled chicken was absolutely delicious. Very fresh ingredients and the chicken had a delightful flavor. My husband enjoyed his tacos meal as well. For the food - this is a definite go-to! Just make sure you make a reservation (as during our stay they were quoting one hour wait to walk ups) and if it is a busy evening, just be a little patient with service.

Food was mediocre. Decorations were nice, and the place was clean. But when I paid, the screen pushed me to tip 18%, 22%, or 25%. Thankfully, I always carry cash to tip based on service. In this case, there wasn’t any. I got my own chips, silverware, water, and food. I even bussed my own table. The cashier took orders while eating on a stool. I might come back if they offered real table service. Your business model is your choice—but prompting for a tip when you don’t actually serve people? That’s just wrong.

Absolutely delicious food! The wait staff was excellent, and the menu was full of interesting dishes. I ordered the short ribs in mole sauce. My party of four came near dusk and was sat outside at their beautiful patio area. Because it was near closing time when we have received our food the patio area was dark. The umbrellas we were under lacked any lighting which made the eating experience a bit of a trust fall. My party turned on their phone lights to be able to see our food which was more fun for us than anything else but some might want to sit inside if it's getting dark outside. All in all though four stars!

Our server was able to share her preferred enchilada for me and it was delicious. We enjoyed their guacamole and drinks and had a delightful time. Our 2nd time enjoying this establishment over our last couple of visits to the island. Never disappoints. Highly recommend, but we lucked out not needing a reservation.
Andy S — Google review
We arrived at our reservation time, but had about a 10 minute wait while hostess showed other customers tables in the back. After that delay, service was quite fast. We've been here before and noticed that the table Salsa recipe has changed, which is a shame. The old recipe was very good, but this new one we left pretty much untouched. I tried the beef short ribs for the first time. Although the amount of beef you get for the price, seems pretty small, the entire dish was attractive and all the components very tasty. My wife ordered the Carne Asada and there was a better portion of beef and it was one of the best carne asadas we've ever had. The marinade was spot on and it was very tender. Margaritas here are also excellent. Everything here is priced pretty high for a Mexican eatery, but of course, they are "island prices". Over the years, we've eaten at numerous Mexican restaurants (lived in Texas for 20 yrs) and I'm glad that we have one on the island with such good food...even at the cost.
Keith N — Google review
The only vegan options were tacos or enchaladas, which can usually be made deliciously vegan in most Mexican restaurants. However, they use chicken broth here in the rice, so the enchaladas I got only had slices of poblano peppers wrapped in a tortilla, nothing else. There were also only two very tiny enchaladas surrounded by a thin layer of black beans and sauce. I felt only half full. The plate cost $22.5 even before tax and tip. On the bright side, the taste was OK, the chips and salsa were complementary. For hungry vegans, I'd recommend somewhere else more substantial.
Michael — Google review
Nothing can go wrong at this venue. Fun, local vibe. Friendly staff. Lomo de Puerco and Pollo al carbon is our usual go to and their mesquite spice is to die for! And chips are always served warm. I enjoy eating out in their lovely courtyard in the summer time as the indoor seatings can get really cozy. They are almost always busy throughout the year and reservations are highly recommended. Food is 9 out of 10 times amazing but I've had inconsistent meals a few times in the past.

✨ Five Stars Isn’t Enough! ✨ I am absolutely over the moon with my experience at Orcas Island Pottery! Twenty years ago, when my husband and I got married, we had a custom, one-of-a-kind set of dinner plates, bowls, and ao much more made for us by Sid, the incredibly talented owner. We originally ordered 16, knowing that over time, a few might break. After two decades of daily use, we were down to 11 dinner plates - and I reached out hoping it might be possible to recreate the same special pattern. Not only did they say yes, but they truly went above and beyond. With their new kiln and Sid’s expert craftsmanship, they were able to create a beautiful new set of eight dinner plates that match the originals perfectly. The plates are absolutely stunning—elegant, meaningful, and filled with care. I’m beyond grateful to have these pieces back in our home, full of memories and ready for new ones. Thank you, Sid, and everyone at Orcas Island Pottery, for your incredible work and heart. 💙 We couldn’t be happier!

Nestled on the western side of Orcas Island, Turtleback Mountain Preserve is a gem managed by the San Juan County Conservation Land Bank, which focuses on safeguarding the natural beauty of the San Juan Islands. With nearly nine miles of trails winding along its scenic ridges, this preserve offers hikers a chance to immerse themselves in nature while enjoying breathtaking views. One highlight is the three-mile Ship Peak loop that starts from the south entrance and provides stunning overlooks of smaller islands dotting the archipelago below.
The South trailhead led to beautiful areas and amazing views. We found the trails well marked and easy to follow. A number of loop options were available. We really enjoyed this hike and will be back?

My go to spot for hiking on orcas. I always start at the south trailhead and head to orcas knob and back for a moderate hike with lovely views.
Anne M — Google review
Most hikers start at The Old Schoolhouse on the Crow Valley road. It's a steady climb to about 1000' on a narrow gravel road. There are two overlooks before the final destination at Turtle Head. The first at about 30 minutes out, is the Crow Valley Overlook. Mt. Constitution, the airport, and Sucia Islands are in full view. Next is the Waldron Island Overlook, at about an hour out. There is a clear view of the Canadian Gulf Islands. Finally, Turtle Head overlooks the San Juan Islands, Whidbey, and the Olympics.

Great trails, some steep but plenty clear, nice view points, you could spend a day here if you wanted. Even days of the month bikes are allowed on trials, odd days of the month horses are allowed on the trails. We didn't know that and got lucky with our bikes on an even day. Hope this helps and happy hiking!

So beautiful here and there's many hikes you can do. There's a South entrance and a North entrance respectively. Different areas of Deer Harbor Rd & Crow Valley Rd for hiking without State Park fees. These hikes are steep so get poles or a hiking stick and good hiking boots for these hikes. You will run into locals on these trails and they're very friendly.

Visitors rave about the warm and friendly service, as well as the option to enjoy their treats in a lovely outdoor area.
Stayed on the island for 5 days and ate lunch here once and breakfast twice. Being a part of the food industry, I can attest that this food was truly something special. The curry chicken sandwich and boysenberry lemonade (which I had them make sparkling) were exceptional, but what I’m still thinking about was that Olga rising breakfast sandwich and their cinnamon rolls. I’m going to wake up thinking about them for at least 3 months, if not longer. I’m back home and trying to figure out how to make my own homemade version of that sandwich. I probably won’t be able to, and for that reason alone I have to get back there asap. Mostly the same people working there each time we went and they were crushing it with smiles on their faces. The inside market was really dope as well and I wish I had space in my bags to bring some local stuff home. Great patio right outside, but also a nice little park across the street you can eat at. Give this place your money.

Super cute place with amazing food, great coffee, and excellent customer service. Highly recommend. We sat at at outdoor cafe table and enjoyed a yummy oat dirty chai, americano, the Benedict and and substituted the ham for veggie sausage. All great!

I definitely recommend stopping here. The first time I went the baked goods were sold out but the second time I went a little earlier in the day and the cold case had such amazing looking baked goods I had to try one of strawberry cupcakes which was absolutely insane! Chocolatey and fresh fruit! The breakfast sandwiches on the homemade biscuits are unforgettable! It’s a must try! Homemade meals make the island what it is!

Loooong line and pretty pricey for an egg sandwich but it was excellent. The biscuits are flakey and buttery and we enjoyed a soft scone too

This was our first stop on Eastsound. It was a great welcome. I got a chai latte (delicious!) and breakfast sandwich. They had a vegetarian sausage patty and it was such a nice touch. I love when places offer that option. They had delicious looking pastries but we didn’t get any this round. They have some cute items for sale around the shop (great ideas for gifts). And there is plenty of seating outside in their little courtyard. The food came out quickly and the people working were friendly.

This place is fantastic! The food is great, especially the sandwiches and pastries—they’re fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. The seating area is cute and cozy, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a meal. The staff are friendly, attentive, and make you feel welcome, which adds to the overall experience. The store itself is charming, with lots of awesome items to browse and buy, making it more than just a cafe. I’ll definitely be coming back for both the food and the delightful atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Had the biscuit breakfast sandwhich a few days ago and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since. I’ve brought it up to my boyfriend possibly 20 times since our visit just to say “I can’t stop thinking about that breakfast sandwhich”. I cry knowing that I left the island and can’t get it everyday. The lattes were also very good.

Nice little lunch spot right in downtown Eastsound. We happened to get recommendations from locals about the secret menu, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. I think we stopped three days in a row for the drunken noodles. If the West Side Kitchen was a musical artist, I’d pay premium big bucks just to be in the nosebleeds. I’m a fanatic. I swore off spending for a while once, but broke in honor of their beef bulgogi. They’re consistent, fresh, kind, and quick given the volume. Lots of fun beverages and snacks, great music, and overall their love for what they do is reflected in the food. I want to eat a bahn mi or drunken noodle as I write this. Don’t miss this.

Very popular & busy place; people are lined up before it opens & they can run out of food choices. Seasonal menu: ordered the karaage rice bowl, miso tahini salad with tofu & smoked short rib sando. All were good but the meats were a little dry. Friendly service & they were patient as we contemplated on what to order. The counter area has cute Asian themed snacks for sale as well.

The best restaurant on Orcas! Amazing service and amazing food. My favorites are the Bun Cha salad and the spicy thai salad. I also love the beef bulgogi. Definitely check this place out!

New Leaf Cafe is a restaurant located in Eastsound, Orcas Island, offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. The establishment provides a high-class dining experience and features a variety of cuisines including Italian, pizza, and vegetarian dishes. Visitors can enjoy waterfront eateries as well as pub dining while exploring the diverse menu offerings. With its prime location on the island, New Leaf Cafe is an ideal spot for travelers seeking quality dining experiences during their visit to Orcas Island.
This was our first time dining here, and it was fabulous! We arrived on the island around noon, just an hour before the restaurant closed at 1 PM, so we quickly ordered the classic Eggs Benedict—and it did not disappoint. The hollandaise sauce was perfectly balanced—not too heavy, not too light—with just the right amount of flavor. The view of the sound is absolutely beautiful, and our server was phenomenal—friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. We’ll definitely be coming back and can’t wait for our next visit!

Came here while visiting Orcas Island and ordered the brown bear bread, salmon, and scallops. The bread basket was very good, fresh local bread made down the street, highly recommended for an appetizer. Salmon with lentils was good. Lentils and mushrooms were cooked very well. My only complaint is the salmon was a little dry and the cucumber sauce on top didn't add much to it, could have added more flavor to it. The scallops were cooked very well, nice and tender but not overcooked. Mushrooms tasted great and seared nicely. Mashed potatoes were decent. Overall a good spot for dinner, expect good food but nothing over the top. Tab bit expensive as well, for two people ended up being over $100.
Grizzlycougar — Google review
The scallops were some of the best we've ever had and we had tried a lot. The beet salad was killer and the truffle fries were good as well! Alex was a fantastic server! We almost got married here many years back and tried this restaurant and loved it, it's still just as good! Best we've had on orcas of 3 fancy dinners. We sat outside and enjoyed the ambiance! The old fashioned and the wine were top notch!
Reinhard K — Google review
While this is beautiful space with a cross-street view of the water and warm ambiance, I’ve found the food, service and wait times inconsistent. The food has been reliably good, and I’ve returned back for their burger sliders and truffle fries. That said, on multiple occasions, I’ve waited for over 20 minutes for a server and 45 minutes to an hour for food. The servers were slightly apologetic on both occasions, but forgot a friend’s gluten free biscuit entirely - twice. They gave us a free waffle, but, y’know… gluten. (I ate it, however — very good.)
Holly — Google review
Had reservations for a party of 3. We were sat at our table without wait. The interior is minimally decorated, clean and bright and has a little bit of a south of France vibe. The view of the water across the street is very serene. Our server was quick to greet us and return with our ordered iced teas. The tea was wonderful. I believe it was an iced oolong black tea. For appetizers, we ordered two Caesar salads and a French onion soup. Caesar salads come with anchovies so make sure to ask for them to be held if you’re not a fan like us. They were lightly tossed in the creamy Caesar dressing and very tasty. The onion soup was probably in my top 2 best onion soups I’ve ever had, with the only one that was better being in Paris. Then, for mains, we had the Scallops Entree & two of the Beef Short Rib Ragu Pasta. My husband absolutely loved the scallops. The pasta was nice but nothing particularly amazing. One of the two identical ordered pasta dishes was a nice portion. The other (mine) seemed about 2/3 the size of the other. Weird. We also had a side of polenta. That was a tasty addition and the preparation was skillfully executed. For desserts, we ordered two of the Lemon Bars and a Horchata Sorbet. The lemon bars were okay. They were kind of room temp/warm… but it didn’t feel like they were intentionally tepid just kind of left in a warm kitchen on the counter and naturally came up in temp. Couldn’t tell you for sure, though. The pickled blueberries were are odd addition and I didn’t think they really worked with the lemon bar. The horchata sorbet had a nice flavor except it was drizzled with a hot honey garnish that was exceedingly spicy. I am a huge fan of spice (think thai spicy) but this was too much for me. It tasted like someone accidentally added way too much chili oil to it and decided not to remake it to a pleasant level. It kind of burned my tongue (from the small spoonful of my friend’s that I sampled) as well as his and was a pretty unpleasant way to finish the dining experience. Overall it was a nice enough experience but I’d probably not return considering the items that didn’t pass with flying colors and that the experience was about $230 check with no alcohol even in the total.

Such a lovely breakfast experience❣️ The biscuits and gravy were delish, the drip coffee was the best I've had at a restaurant with their selection of oat milk and maple syrup. Our waitress was awesome!! O yea, can't forget the nice view of the bay from our seat. Highly recommend this place!

We came here for brunch while staying on the island. It's inside one of the hotels. It's a very cute space. We went on a Friday morning and were seated right away. We had a nice view of the town and even the water from our seat. Everyone was super friendly and the service was great. We had coffee and it was always refilled and hot. The food was also delicious. I'd definitely recommend and hope to come back soon.

Great little brewery! Very cozy spot, excellent beers, very small menu of snacks but delicious (we had the smoked salmon but they also had an excellent cheese selection). Service was great, super fun little spot and very dog friendly!

We love Island Hopping Brewery. The owners are especially welcoming and helpful. I swear their best gets better and better with each new variety. Food is great, but basic snack stuff, such as cheese, crackers, and cured meats. Bring your own food. Super dog and family friendly.

Excellent afternoon stop. I had the IPA and ISA and I liked them both. We also had the cheese plate as a snack which was great. Local cheeses, very good, adults and kids devoured. They also have a selection of non-alcoholic including kombuchas. Cute outdoor beer garden.

Such an awesome little brewery!! A total locals place with delicious beer and food (the smoked salmon and cheese are insanelyyy good)! Cali was the Beertender and she was so sweet, knowledgeable and fun to talk too!! There’s a room on the side that’s super private and great if you have a few dogs with you, tons of outdoor seating as well. Definitely will be coming back next time we are on Orcas :)

If you're not a local, this isn't your place. We felt very unwelcome when coming to check out the beer selection. So much so, we didn't stay. The music that was playing was a fun vibe though.

Ice cream shop
Clever Cow Creamery in Eastsound, Washington is a local gem offering small-batch artisan ice cream with delicious flavors and excellent service. The creamery stands out for its creamy, flavorful ice creams that are not your typical mass-produced ones. They also offer amazing waffle cones, ice cream cakes, and artisan treats from a talented local baker. The store itself is inviting and clean, with the option to enjoy extra sprinkles at the end or indulge in affogato or hot cocoa.
Great ice cream with a nice texture. Good flavor options. Enjoyed the chocolate, just peachy, and Rosario raspberry flavors! They have a lot of creative options besides just ice cream on a cone like affogato and ice cream flights. There’s a great outdoor seating area perfect for a sunny day.
Gabi G — Google review
Ice cream was absolutely delicious!!! The waffle cone was a bit crispy but tasted great still. Long wait (30-40 min) but worth it.
Megan P — Google review
The best waffle cone I’ve had in my life (no exaggeration). You could smell them from several blocks away. I can only speak to the coffee + cookies flavor ice cream but it was delicious and they also had seasonal options. Pricy, but it’s homemade ice cream on an island and it didn’t stop us from going back the next day. There were some good candles for sale also!
Ali M — Google review
Very nice ice cream shop on Orcas; flavor full and creamy; I had the sea salt caramel and I have to say one of the best I have tasted; daughters had the London fog which she liked a lot also They give you paper scoops which is cool; only thing is that they charge extra for non cash!! Who carries cash these days!!

We loved all the flavors we had and would recommend this place to any friend visiting the island! We were pleasantly surprised they had sugar free options (the vanilla was delicious) and their chocolate was exceptionally creamy and thick. Great ice cream, great service, great prices, can’t ask for any better!

Mia's is a charming eatery that offers a delightful array of globally inspired breakfast and lunch options, complemented by an impressive selection of beer and wine. Nestled in downtown, this warm venue features a serene patio perfect for enjoying your meal al fresco. Despite its bustling atmosphere during peak hours, the staff remains friendly and attentive, ensuring you feel well taken care of. Patrons rave about their breakfast offerings, particularly the huevos rancheros which have garnered quite the fan base for their exceptional flavor.
One of the best breakfast I’ve had in a café. I’m a fan of eggs and every time I have a long day ahead I get my huevos rancheros or similar. Their huevos were some of the best I’ve had. And on top the coffee is on point. We were seated outside because we had our dog with us so I couldn’t say how was the ambiance inside. Despite being the only ones outside we didn’t felt forgotten by the staff always checking in. Great place.

I was a little disappointed with the food here. The menu was small, and underwhelming, so one would think, if a restaurant has a small menu, they must make those items extremely well, and super tasty. Well, that wasn’t the case. My wife had the biscuits and gravy, which had almost no flavor at all, it was so bland it had to be covered with salt and pepper to even be enjoyable. The bacon was soggy, and not appetizing. I had the Nacho Papa, which was definitely better than the biscuits and gravy, but still wasn’t that good. Overall, pretty disappointed with Mia’s, the service was great, but hopefully they can bring some life back to the menu.
Marcus P — Google review
It was good food, had the same experience with the portabella mushroom, no meat? The server quickly got me another patty and it was amazing. There servers were kind of awkward and the water was Luke warm? Locals recommend and they were at least open.

Came here at Sunday lunchtime; super busy, but staff was pleasant and helpful. I had the Turkey Melt and my wife had the House Burger; both were really good. Great American Bistro style food. Found out the restaurant has new ownership as of May 2019 and is in the process of changing the name from Mia's to Luna's, so don't be confused by signage in the meantime. Still a really nice place to eat in downtown.

Service was horrible, no signs indicating which portion of the dining room is open or closed. Sat down and observed other couples come in and waitress acknowledged them. Asked the waitress for menus and she told us we were sitting in the closed portion. When we asked why the water pitchers were topped off and on the table, she was rude and frank in her reply to us. So we move to the portion that was open only to get ignored by her as she was serving the other two groups who came in after us. She completely ignored us as she walked by us several times to serve the other group. I can understand her attitude to a degree if we were unbearable or rude, however we asked her a simple question and that was how she treated us. Being an Orcas resident for some time now and knowing how hard it is to make a decent wage here you would think she would appreciate her job along with try a little harder with her customer service skills. I along, with my family, will not be back and I will be taking to social media about my experience here.
Patrick S — Google review
Food was tasty, yet we felt it was a little overpriced and the burger came with no fries. Salad portion was too small for the price but idk maybe it's a healthy place. To enter the bathroom you have to carry a ladle attached to a key which I felt was pretty smart considering they have already lost four keys. Seemed like there was little variety in the menu but they only showed us the lunch menu. We felt a little judged by one of the waitresses but tbh I was being a little snotty. But she seemed really nice. I'm writing this review waiting an hour in line for the ferry departing the island so I'm being very nit picky cause I'm bored. Place was pretty good actually

Mason our waiter was very knowledgeable, efficient and accommodated our every request. The service was excellent. Portobello sandwich that we had with a house salad was also excellent. They could use a little air conditioning since it was very hot on the evening we were there and there's only ceiling fans. It's the only thing that I have to say negative about the place. Everything else was great.

The halibut fish and chips were the best I have ever had! Fresh, light, and crispy. My company had the fish and salmon sandwiches. These were excellent as well. The reason I knocked a star off as I felt the price was high for the serving size and I left feeling a little incomplete. The view of the water and islands was spectacular.

Pizzeria Portofino is a charming and laid-back restaurant that offers custom-made pizzas in a cozy setting, complete with a captivating wall mural and the option to dine outdoors. Established in 1991, this beloved island eatery prides itself on preparing fresh dough daily, resulting in made-to-order pizzas that take around 20-30 minutes to cook.
Great place for pizza on the island. The person working was the only one there and he got our pizza out fast. The focaccia bread was delicious! Definitely try that. A great value. The marinara sauce is delicious as well. I highly recommend trying this place out. We sat outside and it was very lovely.

I could smell the pizza from far away. Once we got there we were happy to see that vegan cheese was on the menu. So we order a vegan cheese with mushrooms. The pizza took about 30 minutes to make because they make it from scratch. Talk about quality!!!! It’s totally worth the wait. We took it to go since we had our pup with us and their outdoor space said no doggos, but no big deal. The pizza was delicious. I was really impressed with how tasty the sauce was. The dough was nice and light. I would definitely go back again! If you are visiting and are in search for some vegan (and non vegan) pizza this is the place to go!!!

I write reviews only if something is really positive or really negative.. This was really negative. We arrived around 6:45 to find the dining room closed- take out only. While waiting for our pizza, we saw a stack of dirty pizza boxes sitting on a table near the register. I don’t know how long they’d been there, but while we were there, it was 20 minutes before someone took them away. We got a 1/2 & 1/2 pizza. we were very clear what we wanted, and the person taking the order repeated it back to us. We didn’t get what we ordered and paid for things we didn’t get! The pizza was very blah and the sauce tasted like it plain tomato sauce straight from the can. unfortunately we were already far away by the time we realized this. If you choose to go here, make sure to check your order carefully before you leave. I’m writing this in hopes the owners will take this into account and make some changes for the better.

The Orcas Island Historical Museum is a must-visit for history enthusiasts. It features cabins from the 1870s and 1890s, showcasing historical artifacts that depict the island's rich history. The museum offers a relaxed atmosphere in Eastsound, where visitors can explore the development of island communities and early settlers' stories through excellent artifacts. The volunteer staff provides informative and friendly guidance, making it an authentic and memorable experience.
Absolutely amazing, if you want to get a sense of the history of Orcas, this is the place! It was free to enter, but they do suggest you donate. The staff members were wonderful, passionate, and knowledgeable. I might come back again just to say hi! I also bought christmas gifts, and some stuff for myself, like a san juan islands scene byway sticker for my car!

A cute little museum outlining the history of orcas Island. It largely talks about settlement on the island. They also have some scavenger hunts for kids. Plan to spend anywhere between 15 to 60 minutes at the museum, depending on your interests.

Interesting look at early settlers/white euro homestead cabins. Minimal info and some displays are not terribly coherent, however the cabins themselves are quite impressive. Good for a local historical museum.

The Orcas Project Tasting Room in Eastsound offers a delightful guided wine and cheese tasting experience featuring a thoughtfully curated selection of wines crafted in collaboration with local vineyards and artists. It's a must-visit for couples and wine enthusiasts on Orcas Island, showcasing Northwest wines that capture the essence of the region. Visitors praise the fantastic quality of the wines, particularly highlighting the pinot noir rose as a perfect summer choice.
The Orcas Project has been a favorite for my friends and I since we discovered it a couple years ago. Cole has always been incredibly friendly and helpful, and we used them to supply the wine for my wedding because of how much we enjoy their wines. They've also been a godsend in quarantine this year with their wine shipments. Can't recommend them enough.
Dani K — Google review
I've both been to the Orcas tasting room and ordered their wine regularly. First, the quality of the wine is fantastic. I'm personally partial to their pinot noir rose which is a perfect bottle for the summer. Second, their staff is incredible. Knowledgable, kind, and just generally great. I've seen them throw in extra bottles for large orders during the pandemic and just generally been amazing. If you are on orcas, go visit them. If you're in Seattle and looking for good wine to make it through the pandemic, order from them!

The tasting room on Orcas Island is a must do! They have wonderful tastings and pairing with cheese as well. We really enjoyed our visit and definitely will be back
Sharon C — Google review
The Orcas Project is an interesting concept in wine making. We were intrigued and the five members of my COVID pod decided to try it. We all went for the $23/person five wine tasting. We also purchased six bottles of wine. The wine quality was just ok. None of the wines we tasted were particularly good or particularly bad. Unlike most every wine tasting we have been to elsewhere, the tasting fee is not waived or reduced with purchase. So we ended up paying a significant amount of money to taste some mediocre wines. Granted it is in a remote location on an island where costs are generally higher than elsewhere.
Kevin W — Google review
Great wine selection to taste as well as tons of other bottles to choose from!

Great fun doing the wine tasting. The Orcas Project is such a cool idea! You get access to a collection of wines by great local wine makers. The shop is really fun with some excellent curated international wines. We were looking for a Pinot Noir (Burgandy) to cook a boeuf bourguignon and found a great French wine.

Doe Bay Wine Company is a charming wine and cheese shop located on Orcas Island, offering a delightful selection of locally produced bottles as well as curated wines, beers, and ciders from around the world. The owners, Cole and Stephanie Sisson, provide various services such as onsite sommelier, private classes, cellar management, pairing events, and tastings.
We LOVED our wine tasting experience with Cole & Ivy at Doe Bay Wine Company. They came to our house and provided a full wine tasting (including an understanding of the development of the wine and fun stories too) for our family of 9. The wine tasting also included the most delicious oysters and charcuterie. We learned a lot but, most importantly, had delicious wine and a fantastic experience. I highly recommend this opportunity! (We also visited the wine shop which was very cool too!)

Stumbled in during a tasting event, and we had to partake. The wine choices were great and well varied, and the staff was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about their wine offerings. The tables and space inside was also very nice, and we chose a bottle to buy that was our favorite from the tasting. Highly recommend stopping by!

Daym good place to visit, get recommendations, have tastings and drink their incredible wines. There was a Rose one with a beautiful label. Anything from, “The Orcas Project,” I HIGHLY recommend. My friend left our precious bottle behind when we were trying on clothes. We had to go back and pick up another bottle there was no way we were going to leave Orcas island without it. We almost missed our ferry. Again, no regrets. Best 75 bucks I’ve spent on wine. I hope whoever found it had the best day ever and also writes a review. Please hurry up and open up your new location soon. I stopped drinking and I’m only saving my libation indulgences for your product. I came here after a beer tasting event and immediately fell in love with the lovely person selling it. She gave us 10% off, but the refreshing taste sold us immediately.

Great selection of wines in all price points! The husband and wife owners are incredibly knowledgeable and so warm and inviting. The Orcas Project wine makes great gifts or souvenirs from your trip. We can't wait to go back!

Had a great time visiting this shop earlier today!! A dynamic husband and wife team own this quaint little shop and make the wine experience fun and informative. There is a little wine tasting stand. The walls are lined with wine bottles, most of which I'd not seen before and the cooler has a decent selection of craft beers. Certainly a fun place to pop into while exploring Eastsound.

The owner went above and beyond to accommodate us after we found out their wine tasting session was full. As we were walking away, he tracked us down in the courtyard and treated us to a special tasting. We tasted the local Orcas Project wine, all of which we enjoyed. The Doe Bay Wine Company customer service was exceptional, a must try!

The Lower Tavern is a cozy establishment with wooden walls that offers a menu featuring burgers and seafood. Guests can enjoy live music and karaoke nights while indulging in the delicious food. It's a popular spot for locals and visitors alike to unwind, grab a bite to eat, and enjoy some entertainment.
Lower Tavern is one of my favorite cozy spots in Eastsound. The back patio is a great hidden gem - quiet, relaxed, and perfect for hanging out. They serve beer and wine only, no liquor, but the selection is solid. The burgers are fantastic, and the fries might be some of the best I’ve ever had. The chicken tenders are also great and come in huge portions. It’s a no-frills, welcoming place that consistently delivers really good food.

Family went here after getting off the ferry. We were seated quickly. Our server (sub in)was funny and had great hospitality with answering any questions we had,and her son finished off being our server for the night he was just as nice. We ordered and rated out of 10 next to(pictured) classic tavern burger 8, halibut and coleslaw 8(coleslaw a little too dry), patty melt 9, dip burger 9(amazing au jus flavor), patty melt 8.

Decent food at reasonable prices. The fries were great! But it's really the staff that made this place shine. Not only was every single person we interacted with kind but they were all really funny too. Very cheeky. Charming atmosphere.

From the reviews, this place should be much better. Food was average, fries were cold. Service was just ok but the server had the whole place with no help so I'll throw her a bone. Good cider and beer but that was about the extent of the good. Disappointed and would not recommend.

The friendly staff adds to the welcoming experience at this popular breakfast spot.
Was really impressed by this place! We were craving a more hearty diner style breakfast and they for sure delivered! The breakfast burrito was HUGE and very delicious. Packed with all kinds of toppings you can customize. Loved the little hot sauce rack they had with a bunch of varieties of sauces. The omelet was also perfectly cooked and tasty. Service was excellent. Great little breakfast spot on orcas island

Great spot for brunch after the ferry. I got the bacon and cheese omelette- which was enormous and amazing!! Great hash browns! My husband got the waffle, bacon and refried beans! He loved his meal and the beans had a really good flavor! We had to wait about 15 minutes but worth it! It is a very small place. Solid service!
Stephanie S — Google review
Island Skillet was recommended to me by one of my friends and it did not disappoint! We ended up eating here for breakfast/lunch 2 days in a row. The ham and cheese omelette was good overall. It was very cheesey but the eggs were a little overcooked. It came with a side of hash browns which were perfectly crunchy on the top as well as a side of toast (sour dough) which was delicious. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Breakfast burritos are phenomenal! We tried one with sausage and another with bacon and enjoyed them both. They are stuffed full of eggs, cheese, hash browns and meat of choice. For the price, it's a great deal! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ TBA (turkey bacon avocado) was a lunch time dish. It was a little pricey compared to the breakfast dishes, but was good. We ended up getting a side of Caesar salad which was a good break from sides of fries. The sandwich was stacked, the deli turkey was thick cut and grilled, the avocado was fresh, with cheese, lettuce and tomatoes on sourdough bread. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I ordered a hot chocolate as well. It came in a big cup with whipped cream, I really enjoyed it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐ We really enjoyed Island Skillet and highly recommend them!
Kevin R — Google review
We waited 30 minutes for a table and another 30 minutes for food..for what? Instant coffee (the worst coffee I ever had in my life), the sad and uncooked hash browns, and frozen waffles you can get in frozen section at supermarket...not only this, entire restaurant seemed disorganized also, one employee kid running around dining hall and kitchen didn't give us pleasant/relax weekend breakfast atmosphere.... Food quality was low and service was so slow. If you're looking to waste time and money, this place has you covered.
Juyeon T — Google review
The food is quite good probably the best breakfast food on the island (unless you want just espresso and a pastry), but it's in-person waiting line only, so you'd better have 30-60 minutes to wait before you eat, and they don't take phone reservations. The staff is weirdly combative and can be rude at times, although that might be because they're understaffed for the amount of volume they get.
Mike — Google review
Terrible experience with employee Rob. We were told the wait would be 15-20 min and at 35 min we were treated super rudely and flippantly by Rob when we asked how much longer it would be. We left and went to another shop that was great. We also saw multiple groups of people who the employees knew personally given seats before others who had been waiting. Highly recommend going anywhere else - so many other great options out here.
Heather P — Google review
We had a great breakfast at the skillet. Staff was friendly and the food was delicious. Limited seating in this place so make a Rez or get takeout. They have some very good burritos and breakfast sandwiches to go as well.
C L — Google review
The Service was great, friendly staff, it can be busy, however the waiting for it is worth it. The food was amazing, tasty, soft, done to perfection, they even have their very own Spicy 🔥🔥🔥 Hot Sauce Rack. The price is good and the portion is perfect. Delicious Breakfast. Definitely, I will return here again. Has indoor and outdoor seating.

The winery offers a cozy tasting room, sprawling grounds, and breathtaking views for visitors to enjoy. Owned and operated by Wesley and Tera Landman, the winery is a place of fellowship, art, music, and creative passion.
We found this adorable winery by accident and I’m so glad we did. We were greeted by the cutest little dog (Arthur maybe 😬). The weather was beautiful and there were a bunch of places to sit outside and enjoy it. Wes was extremely helpful and answered all of my questions. There were some interesting wine that I’ve not encountered before which is always fun. The pours were pretty hefty for a tasting 🎉

We were led to believe that there was a good food selection here, but when we arrived it was only bags of chips and a few options for packaged meat and cheeses. The wine flight was pricey($26) and almost good enough, but it is not grown on Orcas Island. The chilled red wine was the best and the others were okay. The location has a nice view, but not much shade and only a port-a-potty for a bathroom.
Andy P — Google review
We visit Orcas Island annually. Orcas winery was having a fall festival so we stopped in. They were not allowing any tasting stating they were too busy. However they weren’t busy in the least. So we ordered 2 glasses of wine. They were very small pours and were very expensive, $15 each! The wine quality was marginal at best. I’ve paid that price for high end wines, but sadly, these wines were not of the caliber to justify the price. I will not be coming back.
Virginia S — Google review
Amazing little spot for some views, wine, and conversation. They offer flights of wine for their four varieties, where it comes out to two glasses of wine for $26.
Jane L — Google review
Nice, family-owned winery with a variety of seating options and excellent wines. When we were there, there were only four offerings, but two of them made the decision very difficult. The staff was friendly and engaging, and seemed eager to make sure our stay was enjoyable.

We had a wonderful time here on our honeymoon. The family running the bar is super friendly and Arthur, the dog, will happily announce your arrival as your drive up. The wines here were great, especially the rosé. The setting is also beautiful and definitely best enjoyed on a nice sunny day.

A lovely little spot! They have a nice big yard with picnic tables spread out—easy to practice social distancing here. They have blankets and games you can borrow. The wine was very tasty and unique. Turtleback Mountain, standing at 1,520 feet as the second highest summit on the island, is a beloved destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts. The mountain preserve offers a variety of forested hiking trails with stunning views of the San Juan Islands and Canadian Gulf Islands. Hikers can choose between the steeper south ascent or the shaded north ascent, both offering unique experiences through mosaic forests, wetlands, and grasslands.
This place is amazing and the possibilites are unlimited. Climbing, picnics, strolls through the hundreds of trails. My best spots for free climbing. Just beautiful!

Stunning place with lots of great trails. These are views from the Western Outlook and Ship Peak.
Tanya — Google review
Most of the local people like to hike these trails. The pictures are taken from the North trailhead. I liked this particular trail because it's steep climbing up but no switchbacks so very easy to hike. You can climb to the top of the mountain which is over 1000ft elevation. Happy trails...

Based on advice from locals, we drove past the North Trailhead to park at the South Trailhead, which yielded exceptional South, East, and West views with less elevation gain and shorter distance.

It’s so very important for communities to reserve public access along waterfronts that would otherwise be developed and privatized for profit. This is a simple park, sunny and with plenty of flat grassy areas to be pleasantly barefoot. There are a few picnic tables and a path opening to access a small beach strewn with driftwood. Please pick up your trash, be kind and respect the locals.

Crow Valley Gallery, established in 1959, showcases original works by various artists in different media. The gallery features two impressive galleries led by potters Jeffri Coleman and Michael Rivkin. Visitors can expect a diverse selection of art that changes regularly, making each visit to the gallery a unique experience. Located in downtown Eastsound, this local gem offers a wide range of art pieces created by local artists as well as skin and body care products.
This gallery has a wonderful variety of art and is a must see when you’re in Eastsound! I purchased a beautiful ceramic bowl and two watercolor prints from the gallery and was having such an engaging conversation about the history of Orcas Island with Sonia that I forgot to put the prints in my bag. I realized when I got back to Seattle, so I called and Sonia was wonderful and got them to me! I am so thankful and will be back!

Lovely little art gallery. Many of the artists seemed to be local or PNW based. We happened to stumble upon a piece of art by the same artist that adorned our Airbnb (Debby Neely)- so it was a perfect keepsake to remember our special stay on Orcas.

I found the most beautiful small glass bowl, perfect for putting the sea glass and beach stones I collected on my magical trip to the area. I left and then returned shortly after because I knew my mom would love one of the ceramic pieces in the shop. Spoke with a lovely lady who was running the shop. Lovely experience. My only regret is not also taking home some of the gorgeous earrings.

Great local shop located right in downtown. They have art made by local artists and a large skin & body care section. I love the lip balm and soap we purchased! Plus they have testers off all the products so you can try before you buy! We went after the farmers market on Saturday and then stopped in again on Sunday. I think they are open 7 days a week during the summer. This place is a must-do on your visit to Orcas.
Mandy G — Google review
Had returned to the store to purchase a watercolor painting we liked. It had been clearly marked as to its pricing (we have a photograph of the labeling and pricing). When it was rung up, the requested amount was about $50 (roughly 10%) higher than expected based on the clearly marked pricing. When I called attention to the disparity, we were told, "Too bad." We did not purchase. It appears consumers of this store need to take care to verify that their charged amounts at the till correspond with the labeled pricing on the products and to be prepared for responses such as we recieved if they do not align.

Pizza restaurant
Hogstone's Wood Oven is a must-visit dining spot known for its farm-to-table offerings, particularly its specialty pizzas and locally sourced tasting menu. Chef/owner Jay Blackinton's wood-charred pizzas, such as the smoked tomato and goat cheese or Mangalista pork with peppers, are highly recommended. The restaurant offers a cozy dining room for a more formal experience and boasts an impressive wine list.
We had a fantastic dinner here, in Sept 2021. Sharing now because we were reminiscing about what a great time we had. All the food (and wine) was delicious, and our server was awesome. Can't wait to go back one day.

What an oily mess! I'm honestly stunned. I don't know how so many people can walk into a restaurant, consume 3 bottles of olive oil and leave a 5 star review. Every piece was just absolutely DRENCHED in oil. For the low price of $80! (2x pizzas with pork topping, 1x side salad). I'm ashamed that this is considered great pizza, but for the price and pretentious atmosphere described I'm even more ashamed people are spending money here. Save your $77 for a flight to Joe's pizza on Broadway in NYC - you'll spend $3.00 for better pizza. Pizza: 2/5 (crust was pretty okay, and ingredients were fresh enough. Too much salt in the pork sausage though) Salad: 3/5 decent, but uninspired. Use of Brewers yeast was appreciated and appropriate. Also a little heavy on the salt. Service: 4/5 we entered for pickup only, the staff were polite and helpful. I didn't sense a pretentious attitude from the staff as described in other reviews. Can't comment beyond that as we didn't eat in. Overall: 2/5 The staff didn't come off as pretentious and the salad was okay, but for the price this place IS pretentious. Pretentious is okay, but you have to back up your product. Maybe you should get your blood pressure checked after your meal here...

My girlfriend and I loved the food and the service here. The pizza was amazing. The people working are extremely friendly and very helpful. Our stay on orcas was short this time but I ate there three times in three days. Thank you!

This restaurant is very quaint and delicious. The Portions are a little small for the price, but the quality more than makes up for it. The service was very prompt and the dishes were spaced out perfectly. The moment you walk in you are greeted with amazing smells and a perfect atmosphere. (The oysters are Delicious)

Stumbled upon this gem organically. Truly enjoyed the experience. Very creative and the flavors were on point! Go here if you want to have your culinary horizons pushed.

We were thrilled to score a reservation at James Beard recognized local chef Jay Blackinton’s Hogstone. Pictured here is corn grit and tomato macerated strawberry and snap pea salad. The pizzas with the cheddar cheese dipping mousse are a must while in town!

the pizza paired great with the view. the appetizer we got was also exceptional. my wife is picky about wood fired pizza, and she thought it was delicious.

The ingredients are very fresh. The pizzas are large enough for 1-2 people. They are a little overpriced, but this is to be expected on an island.

The casual restaurant and garden provide a lovely dining experience, serving delicious dishes such as ceviche, duck liver mousse, radicchio-apple salad, fried green tomatoes, handmade pastas with salmon roe or pork ragu, and delectable desserts like beignets with blueberry compote.
Restaurant Review: What a delightful restaurant with the perfect location serving incredible food farm to table. Fresh, authentic and creative. The staff were very friendly, on time and professional. This restaurant is another of the great dining establishments on the island and in my opinion the best. I always make it a priority on my yearly summer visits to Orcas. Accolades to owners, chefs and all wait and kitchen staff!

Kingfish offers a lovely dining experience that perfectly reflects the peaceful charm of Orcas Island. The relaxed atmosphere, attentive service, and beautifully prepared dishes made for an unforgettable evening. If you're seeking high-quality food in a serene, welcoming setting, this gem is well worth a visit.

I drive by this restaurant often but have had a hard time figuring out their hours and what they had to offer ( I couldn’t find much online ) so I finally stopped by for happy hour. I love it that the only way to figure out what they’re doing is the chalkboard out front. From 4 o’clock to 5 o’clock, they offer 10% off the left-hand side of the menu which are the appetizers. Nothing from the right hand side of the menu is available from 4 o’clock to 5 o’clock. I ordered the pork belly sliders and they were delicious! I might go back another day if I have time. I noticed that the phone was ringing off the hook for reservations… There are so many restaurants on this island that in two months, I don’t think I’ve tried them all.

I was staying in one of the rooms and I couldn't help but notice the construction outside. I got to say thanks for the heads up but besides the point, good food. Nice location but really wish I would have got a heads up that my room was going to smell like shit but to make up for it. I meant people who are installing the quote" system and they are super hard-working, nice and kind, respectful people. I don't remember their names exactly but all I know is we talked for a little bit and they let me know the scoop on what was going on and they were really nice. Eager to get to know me just like I was eager to get to know them. I think they work for Island excavating judging off the name of the truck but regardless of the fact, kind and amazing people

Review of restaurant only - love the focus on fresh and local ingredients. Very friendly staff. Seems silly to say but the homemade jam with the bread appetizer was so fabulous and special. The dinner food was amazing too. Very flavorful and well presented. Beautiful views. Lovely dining experience.

This is a review of the restaurant. Limited menu but the food and wine and mocktails were all excellent! Service was good. Took a while for the food to come (they said the roast chicken would take a while and it did). Nice location with view. Highly recommend this as an alternative to Eastsound places.

Review of the restaurant only This breaks my heart. My wife and I are here on our honeymoon. And while the location is beautiful. The food is inspired, beautiful. Creative. And downright inspiring. The only downside is finding a portion of my chicken pesto was a big boned drum. But otherwise the food was amazing. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE DESSERTS. However. The service was… struggling. I understand that the staff had a large 7-8 person party infront of us. But 55 minutes after ordering we finally got our food. And the appetizer was completely forgotten. Turns out it was never relayed to the kitchen. I really wish I could rate this place higher. But after the service received. I can’t. The food is amazing if that counts.

Update as of 7/30 at 8:30 am. The inn was performing a septic service, and the truck blocked our way out. Our room smells like poop. No one informed us before hand. Trying to head out, I texted and called the host, no response. We would NOT recommend this place and will not return again! Suite 4 had Nice decor and is very clean. However, with the price we paid, it was a bit noisy. The hotel situates at an intersection, so we can hear every single car passing by. Not fun when there were loud cars or motorcycles exploding the street, day and night.
