Ligonier in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Ligonier, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Ligonier is a small Laurel Highlands town known for its charming central square, “The Diamond,” ringed by independent shops, galleries, and cafés. History buffs can tour Fort Ligonier, a carefully reconstructed French and Indian War fort with an extensive museum collection. Nearby Idlewild & SoakZone, one of the country’s oldest amusement parks, and easy access to hiking, skiing, and scenic drives in the surrounding mountains make it a popular family and outdoor destination. The town also hosts seasonal events and festivals that highlight its historic character and regional culture.
With favorites like Main Exhibit Gallery & Art Center, Idlewild & SoakZone, and Gino's Pizza of Ligonier, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Gino's Pizza of Ligonier and The Darlington Inn so you can get the best taste of Ligonier while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

I haven’t been to Idlewild in years but took my youngest grandson there. The park was busy but not overly crowded the grounds were clean and employees helpful. We had a short wait at the gate to get in our digital tickets worked great and we were in in no time. We were directed where to park. I loved the tree lined park and there was plenty of shade. If you have a young child this is the perfect park. The giant Rubber Ducky was there and the baby yellow ducky too.

Idlewild is an awesome park for families with young kids. The rides are geared towards children with several allowing toddlers to ride with an adult. It is a much better value for young families than parks like Hershey or Kings Dominion who have very small young kids section. The water park is awesome too! We spent half the day at just the Waterpark. Also, buy your tickets online in advance. The tickets at the gate are much more expensive!

My children and their spouses and my 6 grandchildren had a great time from opening to closing! We had so much fun last year that we made it part of our annual family vacation. Looking forward to next summer already! Very clean , well maintained park , including Soak Zone.

Went for our daughters early birthday 🎈🎂 present from her grandparents and she had a blast. The park is great for small kids!! Definitely recommend a wagon!!

Long lines for food (1 person working bbq shack and 1 hr wait, no trays, no silverware), rides closed due to staff shortage, maintenance, and removed (slides)... I used to love this place... going downhill fast... lack of maintenance and appearance. If due to lack of help, reduce ticket price or close when little help so people dont have to have a bad experience. We paid full price for 1/2 the experience. Maybe the owners and senior leaders should come thru when short staffed and see how they like the treatment. They wont... they want their full ticket price collected no matter the experience for the public. Was like this last year too... figured they fixed it up since.... Edit as the day goes on.. after the long wait, my BBQ sandwich was cold, as was mac n cheese and half ripe watermelon. Son bought the $25 unlimited refill souvenir cup only to find out it has a QR code and only gives a LIMITED # of refills. Caramel apple not available, as "apples aren't ripe yet".

I will start with what really ticked me off…. We were in the lazy river and just kept going around cause it was peaceful. My handicapped daughter cannot do much so we stayed. While we’re in there and it’s hot out 88 degrees they kicked everyone out and said they were closing it for about a half hour so everyone could take breaks. You don’t close a water attraction when there aren’t many for breaks, you swap out workers for breaks. It was closed for over an hour. I’ve never seen anything like that and I’ve been to many parks. So we had to go to the pirate play area and the worker complained at me for going down the little water slide with my daughter who doesn’t walk. I’m like she doesn’t walk he’s like I understand I’m like no you don’t. Next the only bathroom with a big changing table smelled like pee, it was all over the floor. I didn’t see anyone clean the bathrooms at all. The food was so expensive. I’m from Eastern PA and you guys are more expensive than them. Also closing at 7 is really early. Sesame place stays open later and that’s geared towards little kids. We would’ve went to Kennywood, but it was too hot. I love the big changing table. I love how you just check in with your tickets when you park. I love how the parking is right there. Some of the workers were really nice. The wait times for rides were next to nothing which was nice, but it was a Monday.
Elizabeth C — Google review
We have season passes and have been several times this year have had a great time the only thing I would ask you to change is when people are filling their cups can you please make sure there is ice there is never ice because the soda machines do not make ice someone has to fill it and it is always empty but other than that we have had the best time with our 5 grandkids there we will continue to come back
Leann D — Google review
We love Idlewild! It is such a great park, and we have made so many fun memories there! For our family, the season passes; they are so worth it! You can go as often as you want in the summer and fall with most of the passes. Their payment plan system they have is great and can make it more affordable for families. Another little thing I wanted to mention. Sometimes we have people in our group that need a wheelchair, and I noticed this year they are offering mobility scooter rentals now, which is great!

Wonderful life railroad museum. Nice artifacts. Staff was extremely friendly and Knowledgeable of the local rail lines.

The owner is very nice and accommodating. It was not very big though so it was hard to pay $5 per adult to come in. I would say it's more geared towards adults but they were extremely nice to my train obsessed kids. The restored caboose is very cool.

Great little museum focused on Ligonier Railroad history. Only open on Saturdays, so stop in before you hit up Idlewild for the rest of your day - you can see everything in an hour or less. Very knowledgeable docents, and make sure to check out the Trolley car!

Nice little Museum, friendly staff. They are very knowledgeable on history on the railroad and area. And if one does not like the hours, volunteer to help or contact them phone or Facebook messenger they maybe able to accommodate.

Little gem, little railroad station turn museum. A nifty collection of lanterns And custom made model trains made available to buy. Plus a perfect model of once was working order caboose that you can walk through. Staff is friendly and well knowledge about the train history of the area. Perfect opportunity to introduce trains to your kids.
M S — Google review
We loved the museum and customized tour. The kids had a great time (they continue to talk about it a week later) and adults learned some new facts. It was quite fun! Thank you for the opportunity!
EJ B — Google review
My oldest son is 9 and he has Asperger's. He has had a hyperfixation on trains since he was 2 years old. When it comes to trains, we've done it, seen it, learned all about it. When he found out about this place, he insisted we had to check it out. It was really cool! There was a lot to learn about, along with a movie to watch. I believe the woman who gave us a tour was named Carol. She was wonderful with my son (who has a hard time with social interactions) and made the entire visit so enjoyable. If you're looking to learn about some local history, this is a neat little place to check out!
Tori W — Google review
The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable about the railroad! We were given a personal tour of the artifacts, shown two 10 minute videos, one about the LVRR and one about the Wilpen coke works, and we were given a personal tour of the caboose. As a railroad enthusiast, I'd definitely recommend this for anyone young or old that has an interest in railroads or the history surrounding Ligonier.

Ligonier Country Market is a bustling monthly event that takes place at the Diamond, featuring a wide array of local vendors offering everything from fresh produce and meats to crafts and food truck fare. The market is well-organized with a shuttle service available for convenience. It's recommended to arrive early to avoid missing out on popular items as vendors may sell out before the official closing time.
Great market! Many vendors there with diverse, fresh offerings. Sellers are local to the Ligonier area and are very friendly.

I always have a nice time selling cookies here at this market!! I enjoy meeting new people and talking with other vendors! I would definitely recommend coming here and shopping!
Gwynne M — Google review
So well managed. Parking is quick and free. The vendors are the best around. The produce is clean, and there are lots of perennials, meats, cheeses, flowers, original art, and handiwork. Just spectacular. It is the belle of the valley.

One of the best markets around! There is something for everyone. There are so many vendors, and a lot of great items. The only complaint I have is so many of the booths are either wineries or distilleries, every other booth is an alcohol. It would be cool to have a little bit more variety.
Erin K — Google review
From hand made toys to flowers to produce to grilled cheeses to khafir concoctions.... it's free to walk around and get parking. Plenty of vendors with different items. And they have live music!

During a recent holiday adventure in Ligonier, my husband and I stumbled upon Gino's Pizza of Ligonier, and it turned out to be a delightful find! As pizza enthusiasts with varying preferences for sauce sweetness, we were thrilled by the perfect balance of savory and sweet in Gino's signature sauce. We indulged not only in their delicious pizza but also savored a hoagie that was equally satisfying.
Tried nearly all of the pizza shops between Latrobe and Ligonier and Gino’s is by far the best!!! I ordered a thin crust and one of the owners offered some Mikes Hot Honey to try on pizza and OMG - obsessed. Love the wings, too. A must-stop when you’re in Ligonier!
Sarah — Google review
Had the meatball hoagie and was very disappointed to find out the cut the meatballs in half. So you get half the meatballs you should for the full price. Had too many bites of just bread and sauce not enough meat.
Sam N — Google review
My husband and I are from the South Hills of Pittsburgh and we were in Ligonier for some holiday festivities. We decided to stop by Gino’s and I am so happy that we did. We are big on our pizza, but our tastes are a little different. I prefer a sweet sauce, but my husband is not the biggest fan. Gino’s sauce is the perfect harmony of savory and sweet! We both enjoyed the pizza and the hoagie that we got. Before we left we noticed sliced pieces of cake in the cooler and enjoyed a delicious piece of carrot cake!! I highly recommend this spot. It was cozy, warm, and the food was great (even good cold)! I do not normally write reviews, but felt compelled to share our great experience. We will be back!!
Rebecca H — Google review
For my first father's day party, I decided on Ginos Pizza Of Ligonier, it did not disappoint. We ordered a party pizza with cheese, mushrooms, pepperoni, and half with sausage. The toppings were proportional to the large squares, nothing was overwhelming. The pizza was cooked fantastically, the massive party pizza had a great undercarriage and crust. Nothing was floppy, saggy or greasy. It was a huge hit at my house tonight, even with other food options. This pie disappeared quickly. I also picked up one of their many honey options they have in store, and I chose the Mike's Hot Honey which paired extremely well with the party pizza. It was a very satisfying pizza and it received 20 thumbs up tonight.
Jerry F — Google review
The staff is very nice and the food was quite good. Prices were pretty reasonable. There were 6 of us that ate our fill with plenty leftover for about $60. We had salad, hoagies, square pizza, soda and French fries with about half of the pizza and some salad leftover. The staff was kind enough to give me foil and containers to pack up our extras since we are staying in a hotel. In the book for the nearby Ramada, it shows a 15% discount for those staying there for the restaurant, but they said they have a new owner who does not honor that. They had cups and straws for soda, but no ice and although it was refrigerated, it was not very cold. There were a couple of flies buzzing around too. With the addition of ice and a few minor improvements, they will earn that 5th star! We have been here before and we definitely will be back. Thank you!
Toni D — Google review
Disappointed. The white pizza had no flavor and burnt crust. The air conditioning was just a window unit blowing warm air - it was actually cooler outside than inside the restaurant, which isn’t ideal in July. The dining area and bathrooms were outdated and not very clean. Staff weren’t attentive or friendly. Overall, not a great experience.
Sarah T — Google review
Ordered a pizza chicken tenders and five meatballs. with some breadsticks get home open up my container of meatballs. and there's no sauce. I called to ask why and they tell me they're out of sauce. Instead of telling me this before I ordered the meatballs. and they tasted like Walmart meatballs by the way ,just bigger and drier .tells me they're out of sauce but gives me marinara for the breadsticks!!!
Ashley B — Google review
Gino's Pizza in Ligonier has really good, fresh & local pizza and hoagies and is was super fast and delicious. We ordered a few pies for a family gathering and not a single slice was left over. If you are looking for a good pizza option in the greater Ligonier area, look no further...this is your spot!

After receiving years of recommendations, I finally made it to The Darlington Inn. This hidden gem, nestled in the woods behind Idlewild Park, offers delicious and truly Hungarian cuisine. The service is courteous and incredibly friendly. The food is homemade and outstanding, capturing the essence of Sunday dinner at Grandma's house. With an accordion player providing a perfect mood, the atmosphere is absolutely beautiful. It's a place that consistently delivers an authentic dining experience with their Saturday buffets being a favorite among patrons.
This place was quite something! The atmosphere felt like we were being cooked a homemade meal in a house’s dining room, and it felt like if a typical house were to have a buffet in the middle of it. The food was delicious though! And the workers are also great. While we were sitting down eating here, somebody with an accordion came in and started playing. It was so cool! I would definitely recommend people to come here!

Valentine's day dinner! Drop noodles were excellent! Bread and soup were homemade and delicious! White sauce was tasty. Dessert was excellent too! I gave it a four because I wasn't impressed with the chicken breast i got , I felt it was slightly undercooked . I orginally wanted beef, but it wasn't available. But, I would go back!

I cannot begin to express how phenomenal the food is. Excellent spot for comfort food, and extremely kind staff. If you want to give Hungarian food a try this is your place. You will NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. We had the chicken stuffed crepes and Hungarian goulash, the meatball appetizer, and both desert options. Everything is homemade, with large portion sizes. It is cash only, however there is an atm on site! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give this place a try! I will be recommending this place to everyone I know!

Went for the Saturday night buffet with my family on our way to Jennerstown speedway. We made google reservations a few days ahead of time. I'm blown away by the authenticity of the food, friendly nature of the staff and other guests, and the quaint nature of this family establishment. Haluski, stuffed cabbage, meatballs, pierogi, and so much more. And the homemade soup with bread as soon as we sat down, no questions asked, here is your soup! Even my kids ate every bite of that wonderful homemade broth. Just awesome all around. Thank you for the wonderful dining experience with my family. You guys have something unique and enjoyable. We will be back with more friends and family.

A fine place to eat. A treat. Good hot filling delicious. Elizabeth came out herself to check on us. Well decorated. I had no idea this place exists, just off Route 30 and overlooking the Loyalhanna. The story printed on the menu is a gateway to Hungary.

Takeout Restaurant
The Eastwood Inn offers a welcoming atmosphere that is both pleasant and relaxed. The service provided is exceptional, with attentive staff who go out of their way to ensure a positive dining experience. The restaurant serves delicious homemade bread and flavorful salads. Although some steaks may be cooked underdone according to customer preferences, the issue is handled perfectly by the staff. The lobster tail dish is expertly prepared, while the desserts could use improvement.
Eastwood Inn Steakhouse in Pennsylvania is a hidden gem, rich in history and charm. From the moment you walk in, the ambiance captures the warmth of a classic, historical steakhouse that tells a story with every detail. Whether you’re a local or visiting, this place is a must for anyone who values outstanding food, superb service, and a touch of history.

Enjoyed Excellent service for an early evening weekday dinner. Classic small hometown bar atmosphere that was quite enjoyable. Though the artichoke appetizer was “to die for”, the rest of the food, unfortunately, did not reach expectations. The bone in ribeye was just cut too thin to be classified as a good cut of beef. Then to be served with mushrooms from a can was even more of a disservice. The filet was tender, but lacked taste. The bar choices were good, and less expensive than an urban bar. Yes, I would return, but try the seafood instead.

Very quaint, busy and quite popular local Ligonier restaurant. The onion rings were being ordered by so many, we had to try them, they were good. Homemade bread was very good with very large slices. We had ribeye and T-bone steaks. The steaks were very large and thick with little salt or seasoning added, probably on purpose since you can simply add to taste. The steaks were also a little underdone, again, probably on purpose since you can send it back and have it cooked a little longer. Our server Cindy was friendly & attentive. The restaurant is an older building with a lot of charm. The menu is quite extensive with many options. Make reservations, at least on the weekends because it was quite busy while we were there.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. The food is terrible for the prices they charge. I had the "veal Scaloppini" (not even close) and it was just veal covered in cooked egg. My wife had the salmon and it had no flavor whatsoever. The server we had was very dishonest. She asked what type of dressing we wanted for our salad and I asked for blue cheese, which apparently is an upcharge because they add the blue cheese crumbles. My second side was broccoli and the waitress asked if I wanted it spicy, and I said yes, but that's another up charge. We didn't know about the additional charges until we got the check. Thank god I didn't get over priced steak because I am sure I would have been disappointed. The lady behind me sent her food back because of how bad it was. She even told them not to giver her anything else and wanted a refund. My wife and I ended up going to Sharky's to eat because we were still hungry. I spent $127 dollars, just to end up eating somewhere else.. If you are looking to blow money for terrible food and overpriced everything, this is your spot!

Last night I took my mother in to celebrate her 65th wedding anniversary. My father is unfortunately in memory care so I wanted to make it as special as one could. The experience was a 10, from the kind staff to the awsome steaks, bread, salad and potatoe. I recommend this lovely restaurant to all that likes quality and nice, kind and thoughtful staff!

We had a reservation, which I recommend. Tell the server if you have never been there. They are full of history information. We had delicious melt in your mouth filet. Talked to bartender who was also a wealth of information regarding history. Be sure to sign the guest book. Parking is a premium so I suggest going early. Loved it can't wait to go back.
Peg P — Google review
Memories of eating here over a decade ago held true with a fantastic meal. Enter curved door breezeway and send some electrons to a mystery person who remotely unlocks the inner door. A large fireplace and sitting room great you. A knowledgeable “more than bartender” will give you thoughts on the best beverage to go with your meal. I throughly enjoyed the Portobello ravioli with stroganoff sauce. Each bite was savored and the addition of fillet tips completed the dish. The Vina Robles Cabernet Sauvignon paired very well with both my dish and my wife’s filet. After finishing our meals we sat by the fire before heading home.

Visiting the legendary Eastwood Inn was one of the highlights of our weekend stay in Ligonier. We made reservations for Friday evening, and enjoyed ringing the bell at the locked front door and getting buzzed into the former speakeasy. The ambience is unparalleled; there is heritage in the air. Our waitress was charming, and provided us with a history of the establishment. We started with a quasi-mandatory order of onion rings, and I had a Boulevardier, tossed salad with balsamic vinaigrette, and New York strip, medium-rare, followed by an after-dinner Caricature. Altogether, it was a wonderful evening.

The fort's original 8-acre site served as an outpost for 5,000 British-American soldiers during the French and Indian War, including a young George Washington. After being decommissioned in 1766, little remained of the fort by the end of the 19th century.
I'd seen photos and videos of the reconstructed fort, but wasn't prepared for just how big the complex is in person. The adjacent museum features many artifacts and a stunning gallery of 18th-century portraits. It's not just a Fort Ligonier museum; it's truly a French & Indian War museum. The reconstructed fort itself is incredible. One can almost forget about the modern town and highway outside its walls. The gift shop offers a wide variety of items for adults and kids alike, including many books. Pro tip: If you think you might visit more than once, spring for a membership which includes free entry and may save you a few bucks.

It is a lovely museum. Well taken care of, and well researched. The recreations are well done, and the displays show amazing amounts of artifacts. The staff is very nice as well. In this world, worth taking your family to see a piece of American history.

Amazing history of the colonial period. French and Indian war. It was awesome. Can't wait to go back in the summer when you can go inside the barracks and other buildings. Winter hours only the museum and the fort itself is open, which is again awesome and the museum is full of period artifacts actually worn or used by the people who were there at the time.👍👍🇺🇲

This is a place to stop for those who love history, particularly colonial and revolutionary history. Fort Ligonier is a recreated fort utilizing the original plans, helping people to understand the complexities of forts and how to maintain security in the frontier. Inside the museum, there are exhibits that detail the global nature of the French and Indian War (Seven Years War), with original clothes and artifacts found from all over the world. There is also an exhibit detailing the unfortunate skirmish between Washington and fellow British troops that resulted in dozens of casualties (more information in the exhibit). The guides were informative inside the fort, and the gift shop was well stocked with books and souvenirs about Fort Ligonier. They also moved the living room from Arthur St. Clair's home to display in the museum for those who desire to know more about the man that helped shaped the future of American expansion westward. Overall, this is a great place to take the family to learn more about the history of the United States in the preclude to the American Revolution.

Dave and Robert and Alan were fantastic! The entire staff was top notch. Friendly, helpful, kind, happy, and above all full of knowledge! Our History Club had a great day. We are blessed to have historical sites like this to share with our younger generation.

This was a nice stop along our journey. The interpretation is good, although it is very packed with text which most museums have gotten away from. The key claim to fame they are featuring is the friendly fire incident with George Washington early in his career. They make a decent case that it occurred nearby. The fort is entirely a reconstruction and the shiny cannons are also reproductions. There were reenactors on site when we visited but unfortunately they came from out of state and did not know anything about the fort itself. I did not encounter any museum staff to provide any interpretation inside the fort, and interpretive signage is sparse, with only one panel with limited text inside each building. Overall it's a worthwhile visit if you are interested in pretty revolutionary war history.

Great place had a few actors the day we went. Son got to hold a musket and learned all about the canons. Fort was easy to get around

It was such a beautiful day to explore the grounds today. Got some great Fall pictures. The audio guided tour was so informative. It was very nice to see original artifacts in their natural state and not behind glass walls. What a great piece of history they have restored over many years. Definitely recommend the visit.

The Main Exhibit Gallery & Art Center in Ligonier showcases the work of local craftspeople, featuring metalwork, stained glass, and artisanal woodwork. Visitors can admire beautiful locally made wood pieces and tables crafted from trees taken down in Diamond Park. The gallery offers a world-class collection of art available for purchase online. Additionally, the center hosts a Summer Camp where children can enjoy art classes taught by enthusiastic instructors.
I just finished my second seven week pottery class (and first glazing workshop) with Paul and Mandy, and I don’t have enough good things to say about them and the experiences I’ve had at their gallery. Paul is so patient and positive and makes learning how to work with clay an incredible experience. If you’re looking to try a new creative outlet, I encourage you to sign up for one of their various classes or workshops. You’ll immediately feel welcomed into the little community they’ve created. We are so fortunate to have them in Ligonier, and I can’t believe I didn’t take classes sooner. I’m looking forward to exploring my new found love of pottery with them in the future. I recommend this fully to anyone with interest. It’s so worth it.

This is our go to spot for handcrafted studio furniture and curated artwork. We always bring out of town friends and relatives here and they always want to come back. We discovered this gallery 25+ Years ago. It was great then and is even better now. A fine family owned business showcasing local and other North American talent. A must see! Pictures are from an Exhibit in 2015 of the work of Brian McCall.

It's a great place to visit, shop, and take classes.

Each piece is a testament to the skill and creativity of the artists. They also carry a beautifully curated selection of jewelry home accessories and so much more. The gallery itself is a visual delight, with an amazing entryway that sets the tone for the entire visit. It's evident that this is a family-run business, as the warmth and personal touch are felt in every interaction. The owners are passionate about their craft and eager to share their knowledge and enthusiasm. In addition to their impressive art collection, Main Exhibit offers ceramic classes, stained glass workshops and a number of other classes in their workshop area in the lower level. Nestled in the charming town of Ligonier, the Diamond Theatre of Ligonier is a delightful gem for both locals and visitors alike. This quaint theater offers an inviting atmosphere where you can enjoy captivating local productions, such as the enchanting "Peter Pan," which left young audiences spellbound with its stunning sets and engaging performances. The theater features comfortable seating options, including recliners that enhance your viewing experience while you indulge in delicious snacks like fresh popcorn and Coke products.
Wonderful local theatre to see productions that are so AMAZING! The last production our family saw was "Peter Pan". All the actors did a fantastic job! The sets were great! It was the first time I had taken our 7yr old to a show. He was amazed by the crocodile and ship. Then when the ship was turned around the amazing little details of the inside of the ship were great...I've never seen his eyes get so big! He was definitely bitten by the bug...the theatre bug that is...looking forward to many more productions there! Latest show was Greece Lightning (2020), fun show!

Typically a great place to go. This Saturday however, I had planned to see the movie they had posted all week on their site and at the threater itself and it was closed. Doors locked at 8pm. People waiting outside asked me if they are opening late. I said I didn't see anyone inside. Dunno.

Cutest theater 🎥 ever, owners are great. You can get recliner seats or sit in regular seats that are new and very comfy. They carry coke products, snacks and fresh popcorn. Shows are usually Fri, Sat & Sun evenings and they put on local productions. If you are in Ligonier it's a must do.

Located in the heart of Ligonier, The Diamond has been the town's central hub since 1857. At its center stands the beloved bandstand, a focal point for concerts, festivals, and Christmas tree lighting. Surrounding The Diamond are various shops, cafes, restaurants, and essential services like banks and ATMs. Visitors can explore unique gift shops offering original art, jewelry, and handcrafted items. During the holiday season, The Diamond is beautifully adorned with festive decorations.
Straight out of a Hallmark movie! I just love the town of Ligonier, especially the Diamond! The hometown feel, the shops, the gazebo! Most recently, we attended the Ligonier Ice Fest. So many gorgeous ice sculptures around the square and through town, including an ice chair that you could sit on under the gazebo! We got all the shops taking in the wonderful vibe of small businesses. Vintage purchases, candy, and more. We taste tested olive oils and wine. Such a wonderful date day out without the kids. Can’t wait to return! Good for kids and dogs allowed. *Wheelchair accessible entrance and parking lot.

The center of the city known as the downtown part called "The Diamond" has a round about with many shops including a creamery and has the original shops when the community was 1st built surround the Fort Ligonier known for the battle between the French, Native Americans tribes and the English to name a few battle in the French and Indian War. It was the western most camp with a population of 6,000 before reaching Ohio. It was 2nd most populous spot only 2nd from Philadelphia and renamed 2 times before naming it after the Fort you see before you. Previously, the community which was established in 1817 was called Ramsaytown, then Wellington, and then after the Fort named after John Ligonier who was of British noble of French origin who the rank of Field Marshall in the British Army. It's a very beautiful city surrounded by hills.

Ligonier Beach Restaurant & Lounge is a historic spot with a reconstructed fort from the French and Indian War. The original pool, dating back to 1925, still stands and has been frequented by celebrities like Dean Martin and Perry Como. While the water may be chilly as it's not heated, it's perfect for cooling off on hot summer days. The area doesn't allow outside drinks or coolers due to its liquor license.
I love the history of this place. It was built in 1925 and the original pool is still in tact! Dean Martin used to work here and Perry Como also performed here. The water is chilly as it is not heated, but it feels great on a hot summer day. I was surprised they don't allow any outside drinks or coolers, but I understand because it is attached to a liquor licensed area and can't take the risk. Frankly, its worth not being able to bring your own water bottle in order to have a place in Ligonier where you can swim, lay out, hula hoop in the grass, and enjoy an adult fruity drink ;) Overall it is a great family pool and my niece loves the giant sandy area. Its still cheaper to spend the day there than to go to the movies for a couple hours, and way more entertaining for the kids (and gets them active!) and entertaining for the adults as well. I can't wait for Memorial Day so I can go back!

The history of this landmark establishment is pretty cool. It's been featured on WQED in several of their specials. It is a nice pool, with a large sprinkler and sand "box" area. We had our daughter's birthday party there in August. We got the smaller pavilion for the whole day at a very affordable rental price. The food was AWESOME(we had 4 different kinds of gourmet pizzas), they paid close attention to details and helped us hang a banner for our party. It was a fun filled day for everyone. I was allowed to bring in a cake and drinks for our party. The down side,...pool is not heated -- VERY COLD!!! The management is a little short with you, not too organized and a little more concerned with socializing themselves then worrying about your event. We will probably go back, but whatever happened to the "personal touch" and caring about your patrons??? Smoking cigarettes and drinking a "cold one" shouldn't come first!
Heidi K — Google review
This was the coolest place to go swimming in the summers in western pa. Tucked at the bottom of the mountain. I read people complaining about the service of the food side. If you went to this pool & remember just how busy it was well you would understand the slow service. I first started going to this pool when it first reopened in the late 90s & I can assure you they were busy. I find it funny kind of that people were complaining about the service for food at a public pool that probably had about a thousand people daily. You can swim, get out of the pool & go have a cocktail under a pavilion. Watch TV outside then go jump off of one of the diving boards. There was no place like Ligonier Valley Beach. There never will be a place like this ever again. It had history & a certain feel that can never be duplicated. I'm just happy that I was able to enjoy myself every time that I was there. I didn't go to a pool to drink or eat big meals. I went for the beauty of the pool oasis in the mountains. Ligonier valley beach will be sadly.missed by me & my wife. Also so many friends that I brought to swim. We traveled from Greensburg to spend our entire days there. I always knew in the back of my mind that this oasis would end someday & it is very sad to me in the strangest way. Look it was old school with the best of new touch. Back in the late 90's the pavilions weren't built yet & there was just a deck to go have a drink on. That was great also & yes the entire field was packed with cars. I pass the pool sometimes & honestly hate to see such a wonderful historic place almost reclaimed by nature already 2 years closed Well owners I want to personally thank you for the many days that I spent there with you. I hope that you read this sometime & I want you to know that my daughter was not born when I started to come there. She is 20 now & I will always equate my time there with those special years. Thank you again!!!!

A lot of history here but it is currently a little run down. It is a shame for what it once was and for what it could be. The beer is still cold and the surrounding woods and stream are relaxing but you can not leave the bar area to walk around or the owner wants to charge you the swimming admission. Could be much nicer with beget management

The entire place does not take credit vards. Everything is cash. Probably hiding revenue. The lady waitress at the restaurant/ bar eas the rudest person I have ever encountered Told my friend to wipe the smirk off his face. We left and ate in Ligonier. Has OSHA ever seen this pool? Dangerous to getin and out of. I will never come back

Pool? 5 stars. Staff, service, food, drinks - minus 5 from management down. Poor slow, non existent service and very rude when you do finally get waited on. Spoke with mgmt. Less than interested. Said it would be "addressed." Yeah? Really? Nothing to compensate me? No free pool passes? Nothing? Yeah, your concern is evident. This seems to be a common complaint and personally, this wasn't the 1st, 2nd, or 5th time but I can assure you it will be the last.

I've been eager to try El Vaquero Mexicano for some time now, but it's always been busy, which is a positive sign. However, when my brother visited from another state and expressed his interest in going there, we lucked out due to the incoming weather and were seated promptly. The cuisine surpassed our expectations; it was truly exceptional! The service was also outstanding.

Nestled in the charming town of Ligonier, Ligonier Creamery is a delightful destination for ice cream lovers. Known for its rich and creamy flavors, this local gem offers a variety of options that keep visitors coming back for more. On warm evenings, you’ll often find patrons enjoying their cones while soaking up live music at the nearby gazebo or unwinding with friends at local spots like Wicked Googly Bar & Restaurant.
Really cute ice cream shop right in the shopping loop around the center of town. Homemade, hand scooped ice cream in a variety of tasty flavors. Also some soft serve options, sundaes, milk shakes, and some of the largest ice-cream cookie sandwiches I've ever seen. A good amount of seating inside and restrooms for customers. No reason not to stop if you're in the area and need a sweet treat.

Neat old building and very good ice-cream. We had hard ice-cream that was perfectly creamy and not gummy at all. The people walking out with the soft ice cream had such large portions the cones were bent over with the volume. Definitely a great value in 2025!

Refreshing, long lines with only two staffers hustling. Could’ve used two more people on holiday weekend. They said Milkshakes weren’t popular most people getting varieties of cups and cones, Sundays style with toppings. Light on their sprinkles and whipped cream. Affordable at $3.75. Try it.

Great ice cream, but I don’t know what gives with this place, it has an underlying attitude. You’ll see it if you take too long to order or ask for a receipt that you didn’t get. Thank you for writing back. I’m not going to update my app and go through all of that to reply so I’ll write what I would’ve told you. When you’re waiting and an employee walks up and stares at you, no hello, no smile, just silence and then you realize that you have to initiate the sale because this employee is not going to or when you ask for a receipt and there’s no response, then it’s given to you with more silence, no thank you or goodbyes it tends to make you not want to go back into an unfriendly atmosphere, simply to get ice cream.

This raspberry dark chocolate ice cream cake from Ligonier Creamery makes you wanna sing America the beautiful. 🇺🇲 The flavors burst in your mouth like the 4th of July. 🎇 The ice cream mixed with the dark chocolate and chocolate crumb bottom will have you standing at attention and having to hold yourself back from eating the entire thing. I bought the last one and I hope they make more.

Had an amazing time with the wife, good food, fair priced drinks, small bowling alley, live music, and great people. Great place to get away for the evening! 10/10 will go again

Omg! A total gem. Stopped in on our way home from Idewild because it was the only place opened. I will be back for sure. Everything was absolutely perfect and delicious and there was even a live rock band! No cover fee! Lol. Also very affordable.

I’m surprised at all the four- and five-star reviews. A friend and I ate there today and we thought it was OK at best. The pizza was nothing special and the hamburger tasted a bit off. Good onion rings. Good marinara sauce for the fried cheese.

We had an amazing time here today. We bowled 3 games on 1 dollar bowl night and ate dinner. The food was really good and way beyond what we expected for a bowling alley. The pizza had a crisp crust and was one of the best we've had in the area. The pulled pork nachos were 10 out of 10. The googly fries were so good too. There was a huge selection of beer on tap and we tried a few. Every one was good. My eife loved the seasonal selection if draft beers. Overall this place definitely exceeded our expectations and we will be back again soon.

I'm not quite sure how to categorize this marvelous place; the Wicked Googly is a spacious restaurant, bar, live music venue, and bowling alley all at once. The beer selection is extensive with many regional craft beers in addition to the usual suspects. Relaxed atmosphere; clearly a favorite hangout. It was busy on a Friday night, but there's no shortage of seating. Locals are welcoming towards visitors, and the staff is great.

There was a little wait to get a table, but the cheese burger was great. Fairly fast, friendly service. Kinda different place, bar/diner/bowling alley, and band was setting up to play. Probably a good place to hangout if your spending the night in Legionnaire.

Upon walking 🚶 into your establishment you could tell it’s a well loved place. There were plenty of people drinking, eating and even bowling. A couple left as my party and I walked in and they generously gave their table to us. It was quickly cleaned and we were seated in no time flat! Thank you for having us!

We've been to WG before abs it was a better experience. This time it seemed they were understaffed, which led to us sitting in the chairs just of the bar and being ignored for 20 minutes. We asked the already overwhelmed waitress for 2 ice waters... she heard me, looked right at me, didn't even verbally respond and didn't even attempt to procure a water for us. We waited another 7 minutes and then we left.

First Wok is a delightful destination for anyone craving authentic Chinese cuisine, offering both dine-in and takeout options. This charming eatery stands out with its affordable yet delicious menu that features an array of seafood, choice meats, and enticing daily specials. Guests have consistently praised the warm hospitality from the staff, making each visit feel welcoming and enjoyable.
An overall wonderful experience. After a long day at Idlewild Park, this place came up as a nearby option for dinner. We decided to give it a try (being only 4 minutes from the park) The outside doesn't leave much to go on, but the inside is very well decorated. It made us feel as though we were transported to another location! We had a nice sampling of many items on the menu: - crispies. (I don't know what these are called) these little Fried crispy things with a side of duck sauce for dipping were great free table starters. I saved the sauce for my spring roll. - Spring roll - classic; a bit too much wrapper and a bit hard to eat, but the taste was great. It did not come with dipping sauce but I used the sauce from the crispies. - Ginger salad - wow. The ginger dressing tasted very fresh, as if ginger was grated in to the dressing itself. It said it was homemade, and I belive it!! 100% you need to try. - boba teas - flavored drink with tapioca popping bubbles. Kids seemed to enjoy it. - hot green tea - hot tea pot bright to your table along with tiny cups. This is a staple for me for this kind of food. Hot and tasty. - sushi - classic sushi done as expected. No surprises here. We only ordered the avacado roll and California roll... So it's not real sushi... Just "sushi". We did not order and thus not experience any real fish sushi. ...what could we have missed out on... - chicken on a stick - looked amazing. Suace was tasty, chicken was juicy. - green curry - warning! VERY spicy! It was actually too spicy for us to eat, but the ingredients in the bowl looked fresh and appealing. - Singapore noodles - now THIS was a hidden gem! Highly recommend. Taste was amazing. Noodles were skinny and light. Meat was cut tiny. It was easy to eat. Darn my stomach for not being bigger so I could keep eatting. Had to take it home... Doubt it will last a full 24 hours before I devour it. - vegetable pad Thai - fresh plump veggies mixed with pad Thai noodles. Traditional taste done right. - chicken pad Thai - ...why did I order this when I also got vegetable pad Thai? I don't know... But it was good. Had no vegetables, but I only noticed that when sitting next to the vegetable pad Thai. Seemed like the chicken pad Thai was lacking. It was still tasty. The employees were very attentive to our needs, providing us with constant refills and asking if we needed anything. None of our drinks ran dry. All of our dirty plates were promptly removed. This next part is for the toilets. Literally. I went to the restroom. Single Person space with a commode and sink. The door locks. Private. Clean. Overall, this place may be a 30 minute drive for us, but we already committed to coming back soon. ....Need ... more... Singapore... noodles... In... My... Belly....

After a day of hiking on nearby trails, this place was the perfect ending to the day. Atmosphere is relaxed, food and service are outstanding. They are a BYOB establishment, and there is wine available at Giant Eagle just down the road.

It's a 20 minute drive to First Wok for me. I used to frequent Golden Wok in Latrobe and have been told it's the same family. We've placed take out a few times here and it's always been good which kept us coming back, but the last time will absolutely be our last. When I called to place my takeout order, the man on the phone abruptly cut me off after only placing a fraction of my order to ask for my number and tell me how long it would be til pick up. As I wasn't finished placing my order, I repeated that I had more to add. He was very rude and rushed. Because of this, he misheard my order. My wife and I drove the 20 minutes to pick up our food and another 20 minutes to bring it home. Upon getting home, I was very disappointed to realize that due to man's rudeness, he made a mistake on our order. When I called back to try and get a refund as this is unacceptable, the people I spoke with had no idea how to handle the situation which resulted in me having to file a chargeback through my bank. All I wanted was a quick lunch but ended up with a major headache and a very overpriced meal that wasn't even what I had ordered. Needless to say, we won't ever be coming back.

Ordered a few items, including chicken on a stick for $7.95. I understood that there would only be two pieces, so I assumed that they would be large. Seriously? $8 for a quarter pound of dry overcooked chicken without even sauce?

Wonderful food, not like your average "American Chinese" buffet place. All the food was piping hot, tasted authentic and generously portioned. We devoured our Crispy Noodle & Duck Sauce appetizer.

This is a fantastic place to sit down, relax, and have a delicious meal. From the friendly and fast service, the great prices, the calming decor, and tasty food, its a win/win.

Not much to look at from the outside, but the variety of food and portions were generous for the price. They have Americanized Chinese, Thai, Japanese and Sushi on the menu, and my wife loved their bubble tea. Indoor decorations were prevalent, if not a bit dated. Service was super fast and friendly.

Shame there is hardly anyone here on a Tuesday at lunch. It is very good.
