Beaches
Sylvan Beach Park in La Porte, Texas is a popular beachfront destination offering sandy beaches, a playground for children, an event pavilion, and a fishing pier. The park's sandy beaches have finer sand and are free of seaweed, with calm waves making it ideal for swimming, especially for families with kids. Visitors can also enjoy amenities such as picnic tables and a bait shop. Sylvan Beach Park is pet-friendly and known for its cooling ocean breeze and serene surroundings.
Sylvan Beach is such a peaceful and lovely spot to unwind. It was clean and well-maintained, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy the water. I appreciated the convenience of public bathrooms and how easy it was to find parking—definitely a plus! Whether you’re just passing through or planning a calm beach day, Sylvan Beach is worth a visit.

update: 5/21, both sides of the beach are now open. the pier is still damaged and closed off. I visited here 5/14/25. As of right now: • The right side of the beach is closed off but the picnic tables are open to sit at. This side of the beach is nice if you want quiet. I sat at a picnic table, shaded, and read a book with nothing but the sound of the waves and seagulls in my ear. • The pier is damaged and thus, closed. • The left side of the beach is open. The sandy area is pretty small but you if you can find a spot, you can place a beach blanket or chair and relax or swim. I didn’t get in the water so i can’t speak of the temperature or depth. There are shaded and unshaded picnic tables on this side as well. • You can fish from the sidewalk on either side of the pier. Overall, a nice place to get away and relax and/or swim. I like it here. bathrooms are clean too quick is a rare plus.

Sylvan Beach Park in La Porte, Texas, offers a charming and family-friendly coastal escape just outside Houston. Nestled along Galveston Bay, this small beach park provides a relaxing atmosphere with a variety of amenities. Beach & Water Access The park features a sandy shoreline suitable for wading and picnicking. While the water is generally calm and shallow, it's important to note that some visitors have reported concerns about water cleanliness, with occasional algae blooms and debris. However, many still find the setting peaceful and enjoyable for a quick beach outing. Amenities & Activities Sylvan Beach Park is equipped with picnic areas, restrooms, and a fishing pier. The park also hosts community events and festivals throughout the year. It's a popular spot for families, offering a playground for children and ample space for gatherings. Visitor Experiences Reviews highlight the park's relaxed vibe and accessibility. Many appreciate the free parking and proximity to Houston, making it a convenient alternative to more crowded beaches. Some visitors have noted that the park can become crowded on weekends, especially during peak seasons. Final Thoughts Sylvan Beach Park is a delightful destination for those seeking a low-key beach experience near Houston. While it may not offer the pristine waters of some other coastal locations, its community atmosphere and convenient location make it a worthwhile spot for a day trip. For more information or to plan your visit, you can check out the official Sylvan Beach Park website.

Its a beautiful beach one side is for boats and fishing. The other side has a playground, picnic table and grass . Its has so much wildlife . Sea birds such as pelicans ,egret, ducks( I saw and took a picture of a rare blue headed mallard ) ,sea gulls ,great blue hearon and seas gulls .only about 25 miles east of down Houston.
Julie Y — Google review
The place is pretty good to go with the family, it feels fairly safe. You can see police around and there are security cameras. It’s the kind of spot where you can just sit down and relax while looking at the water. There’s plenty of green space, with some trees where you can catch some shade. Personally, I wouldn’t get into the water since there are lots of refineries around and they dump chemical waste into it. The little beach is only open until sunset. Even if you’re just sitting on the sand looking at the water, they’ll make you leave once the sun goes down. Some people bring speakers and blast Mexican music or reggaeton at full volume. Unfortunately, there are always folks who don’t respect others and think everyone has to listen to their music. My wife went into the bathroom and said they were disgusting — even found poop on the floor. Today was our first time visiting. The good part is there’s a lot of green space to sit, and in our case, we stayed away from the noise, reggaeton, and ladies singing rancheras. You definitely need to bring bug spray because as soon as the sun sets, the mosquitoes come out hungry. The parking lot is pretty big.
Alex S — Google review
Surprisingly organized and clean with very clear stations plenty of benches and parking. There's to be desired in the "Beach" department not to much sand banks and very little room to swim. As they have barriers that one cannot go past at best I was waist deep in water. Will definitely return!
GDP E — Google review
Great place for kids to enjoy a long sand play session. For free (at least today when I went). My only complaint is the lack of shades for parents. I stood behind this pole and moved with it's shadow. Maybe only a problem for people from out of town who can't bring shades.

Yes this park is for "RESIDENTS ONLY" one of our many amenities for being a resident. Most of the time not packed, great picnic spot, great views, nice pier when it gets built back from Hurricane. No worries non-residents we have many public parks in La Porte to enjoy.

Quiet place to relax and fish. They have a fire pit to have a nice fire. A few grills to BBQ on and a small park for the little ones. Plenty of benches for picnics. No swimming allowed. Very nice and clean.

The La Porte Bay Area Heritage Society museum is well-maintained, organized, and showcases the local region's historical significance. The historian attendant was pleasant and helpful. The train exhibit is impressive and tidy. This small museum offers valuable insights into La Porte's history, with Georgia being a welcoming and knowledgeable guide. Admission is free, making it an accessible attraction worth visiting before its historians depart.
Everything is clean, nicely arranged, and a little bit of history of the local area. The historian lady was very nice. The train was neat.

I appreciate the positive energy and friendly welcome I received at Crow's Nest Art Gallery. I have been enjoying acquiring new skills in playing a Native American flute and am excited to showcase unique jewelry pieces that I discovered at the store. I wish nothing but success for the gallery and the talented artisans associated with it.
The most authentic Native American jewelry at the best prices! I absolutely love the lay away program & ask for gift certificates at every holiday. This is a one of a kind gallery. I strongly advise getting collectible prices on lay away ASAP, as the owners are seniors and who knows how long the treasure trove of their contacts & inventory will be available. I searched all of my life for authentic Native jewelry. This is the only place I’ve found such one if a kind, gorgeous pieces. To find equal you would have to frequent Navajo, Sioux & Zuni Reservations and make relationships with various artists. The owner Fern is the absolute kindest, most compassionate, most knowledgeable in Native art, artists and the history of the lives of each artists that I’ve had the honor and privilege to know. When you go, make sure you have a couple of hours to take it all in. For such a small space, there is more than the human mind can take in with just one visit. Each time I visit I discover new treasures. Visiting is an authentic experience the soul will never forget. 💙💙💙💙💙 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🙏🏽🥰🙏🏽🥰🙏🏽

Thanks so much for the good vibes and warm reception! I've been enjoying learning to play my new Native American flute, and we can't wait to share the gifts of jewelry that we found at your store. Wishing all the best for you and the artisans connected to your lovely gallery.
Tien N — Google review
Must see! I’m Native Mescalero Apache and assure you will have to search the reservations to of numerous states to find jewelry of this quality and authenticity. The vast selection starkly outshines all other “so called” Native American art galleries or jewelry stores. For the quality and weight of this pure silver jewelry, you cannot beat the prices! The drive out to La Porte, TX is well worth it. Grab a to go plate of coconut shrimp from Baytown Seafood on the way back! It will be a day you will never forget. Fern Young has been at this longer than I have been alive. She has a generous lay away program, a gallery wide sale each summer in July (I think) and takes her time to be sure you make selections of heirloom pieces you will most assuredly treasure and proudly pass on to the next generation of loved ones. If you get an appraisal certificate or keep a photo of your receipt, your renters or home owners insurance will cover your investments. I highly recommend doing this because you will certainly be back for more. If you are thinking about Native art or jewelry, go as quickly as possible. The owner is at retirement age, so no telling how long this precious treasure trove will be open. For anyone looking for a business investment opportunity, Fern’s quality and knowledge are priceless. If I had the means, I would have bought the business years ago. I can not emphasize enough how moved you will be to experience Crow’s Nest Art Gallery. I was moved to tears the first day I visited. Connecting with my history, my people in such a personal way was beyond description. I am allergic to gold, copper & nickel. This is now the only jewelry I invest in. James Avery pales in comparison to Fern Young’s vast collection of one of a kind heirloom investments! Thank you to Fern and her late husband Ed for bringing such beauty and Native Pride into the lives of so many over the years. May your legacy move forward to inspire true authentic Native American art enthusiast and descendants. 💙💙💙💙💙🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽💙💙💙💙

We've known Fern and the Crow's Nest for 30 years or more. This is THE secret place to get quality genuine Indian jewelry from one of America's major experts on the subject. We have bought probably a dozen or more major pieces from Fern that in my opinion could just as easily be in museums. She has grown to be a friend who always has been more than fair with better prices and service than anybody rightfully could ask. Fern and her husband are jewels themselves that shine brighter than a polished concho on a Navajo belt buckle. Go there. Say hi. Tell her Mitch and Adena sent you.
Mitch S — Google review
Husband and wife team Ed and Fern Yung have a collection of spectacular authentic Native American jewelry, and are quite happy to guide you through it. They have a wealth and knowledge of the artists, mines, and stones of the Southwest and it shows in the items they offer. You will not find anyone with more integrity and authority, even in Arizona or New Mexico. If you want the reral thing, this is the place to go. Prices are fair and they offer "starter" pieces and rare finds for every budget. No "stock" settings here. Each piece is hand made. They are a little bit out if the way, but soooooo worth the drive.
Kim A — Google review
I’ve just recently put things on layaway that my kids loved for Christmas. I have a 2,9,and 15 year old. My oldest I’ve taken him here before when he was 2. Great little cozy place and sweet couple. If you’re wondering what could kids possible desire from this place, it’s instruments. I got all three of them different thumb pianos. I got myself some silver man made opal earrings and soon we will try to find a ring for my fiancé.
FALLEN A — Google review
Quite literally two of the loveliest people on God's green earth that you will ever meet. Fern is a fount of knowledge on Native American jewelry and gemstones, and Ed is a raconteur of sorts who can tell you endless stories about his and Fern's adventures as pilots. Amazingly beautiful people. If we had more Ferns and Eds in this world we'd be better off. As a side note, their jewelry is unbeatable in quality and value. It's bonafide. - Connie

I love this little place, nestled next to the water with a beautiful view and once you go inside you find that there is even more beauty. Jewlery from different tribes and the owner knows exactly what piece of jewlery came from what tribe. They are so nice and very informative about the stones and metals. The owners love what they do and you can tell. If you want authentic native american jewlery you need to go to the Crows Nest! You wont be disappointed. Everybody that I have brought to this place always walked out buying more than they thought. Again you won't be disappointed in the artistry of each piece of jewlery.

How amazing to finding a fresh sandwich like this, right here in La Porte? I ordered the pimento and cheese large, sandwich only, fully dressed. The large is a “triple decker” with two layers of the filling. This was $8.61. The sandwich was a little runny- so I believe eating it right away made a difference in the taste. The taste of the lettuce, tomato, and pimento was fresh, simple, yummy goodness. I’m definitely coming back.

Family restaurant
The Wooden Spoon Kitchen and Bakery is a delightful culinary gem that promises an inviting atmosphere and exceptional service. Many visitors have enjoyed their meals, with highlights including the chicken fried steak sandwich paired with sweet potato fries, as well as the unique "bagwell" burger topped with mac and cheese. Diners rave about the flavorful dishes like chicken fried chicken and steak, though some sides could use a bit more seasoning.
First time trying this place today. It is a small cafe and had a steady flow of people coming in. The food came out hot, fresh and delicious. The CFS is very tender and had a good thickness to it. Had very good flavor. The fried mushrooms were also very good. Lemon pie for dessert was truly amazing. I will definitely be back to try some of their other menu items.

My family and I found a TikTok of this restaurant, as we are always up to trying new places. SO glad we went! It was absolutely DELICIOUS! The service was on point as well! This is one place that we will be returning to! Many blessings to this family ran business ✨

Atmosphere Great, Service is top notch, & the food is absolutely great. Been here a handful full of times. I've tried a few different things already, & I haven't tried anything yet that I haven't liked. This latest visit I ate the chicken fried steak sandwich with sweet potato fries. It was so good 🤤 my sister had the cheese burger with sweet potato fries. I'd say whatever you decide on will be great, just make sure you save room for dessert. All the ones I've tried have been amazing. Their desserts are always changing. I just wish I could try them all 😋🤤

I had such a wonderful experience at this restaurant! The food was absolutely amazing—every dish was full of flavor and so tasty. Our server was incredibly nice and very helpful, making sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. To top it off, the owner came out personally to greet us, which made the visit feel extra welcoming and special. Great food, warm hospitality, and an overall fantastic atmosphere—I’ll definitely be coming back!

Let me start off by saying as a first-time customer i want to announce that I ordered the "bagwell" burger which is a burger served with mac and cheese on it. I took my first bite of the burger and couldn't help but notice the tasty flavor of the meat. The owner Chad was walking to tables asking about the foods. As he proceeded to come to my table I couldn't help but brag on the atmosphere he had going. Very humble guy to speak with. I can gladly say I will be returning.
Quinton C — Google review
Been here twice, both times I've had the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and mac n cheese. With times it was great. One of the best I've had in a long time. The service great as well. Both time the waiter gave suggestions and were every knowledgeable about the menu. Last time the big guy with the apprean didn't ask us how our food was as he made his way around the eating area but he made up for this time coming by three times. Lol. I will be back
Alex G — Google review
The chicken fried steak was absolutely delicious. My wife and I also had the strawberry pie & banana pudding, they have a wide selection of desserts to choose from. The owner came out personally to speak & check in with guests. Customer service is top notch, highly recommend this place. We will definitely be coming back 🙂
Luis M — Google review
I had the chicken fried chicken with white gravy, fried okra & collard greens. The chicken fried chicken was delicious, seasoned well, not a lot of breading, and very tender & moist. My husband had chicken fried steak with brown gravy, coleslaw and mashed potatoes. We both agreed on the chicken & steak were amazing but the sides lack seasoning & taste. We took home Napoleon cake and lemon cream pie. Napoleon cake, not what we expected & we didn't care for the combination of favors. But you have to try their LEMON CREAM PIE!! It's a must!!

Nestled in La Porte, Village Pizza & Seafood is a charming eatery that offers a delightful mix of classic pizzeria favorites and seafood dishes. Whether you're dining in, grabbing takeout, or opting for delivery, this spot has something for everyone. Many loyal patrons rave about their signature pizzas, which boast a satisfying crunch without being burnt—definitely a standout feature!
On their to go box, they state, Best Pizza In Town. I would agree! I still prefer these landmark Houston area classic restaurants since they entered our marketplace all those years ago. And especially over the over saturated modern chain pizza places flooding our market places. I love their meatball subs here! A guy's favorite. Like a fall pick. And the Philly Steak Pizza. With the select ingredients of another guys favorite hot sub sandwich! One of the reasons is all because of their fresh vegetables from Sysco food service delivery. You know their green bell peppers and mushrooms and onions fresh tomato pizza sauce, seasoned Philly cheese steak on delicious fresh pizza dough bread made fresh with a blend of cheeses melted, all cooked to perfection. Is it any wonder that guys know where to go during the football fall season?

I used to eat here regularly when I worked on this side of town and it was always great food and service. Their pizza has a bit of a crunch to it but it’s definitely not burnt. I love that. I just went back to the company I used to work for and was hoping they hadn’t closed down. Luckily for me they hadn’t. The pizza is still just as good and I’m probably gonna go back later this week for a Philly. If you’re in the area it’s worth it.

I usually don’t write reviews, but this Dairy Queen deserves the praise. Everything about my visit was so good. The hamburger and chicken basket were electric—crispy, flavorful, and cooked just right. Dessert was just as amazing—Dairy Queen always delivers, but this location went above and beyond. The place was spotless, the staff were genuinely friendly, and the food came out super quick. It’s rare to find that combo of quality, service, and cleanliness all in one place. I’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend!

The Dairy Queen at 901 South Broadway in La Porte, Texas continues to impress with its outstanding service, spotless environment, and delicious food. The staff is friendly, professional, and clearly well-trained—thanks to the exceptional leadership of Ms. Pat, whose commitment to excellence is reflected in every detail of the store. A standout on the menu right now is the new Dr Pepper BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger—a bold, flavorful creation that’s absolutely amazing. It pairs perfectly with the Oreo x Reese’s Blizzard, this month’s Blizzard of the Month, which blends Oreo cookie pieces, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and DQ’s signature soft serve into a decadent treat. Whether you're stopping in for a quick bite or a sweet indulgence, this location delivers top-tier quality and hospitality every time. Highly recommended!

We had lunch here yesterday with our family and it was a wonderful experience! The place was very clean, and the staff were super friendly and welcoming. The burgers and other food were absolutely delicious, and the ice cream was just amazing — creamy and full of flavor. Next time, I’ll definitely try their ice cream cake. Highly recommended for a casual and satisfying meal!

Exceptionally clean space. While Ms. Pat wont ban La Porte HS kids, she wont let them loiter, and because of that, The kids go in, eat their food, and leave, and are all respectful while doing so. The food was great. Hot fries, fresh burgers, and she told me about non-dairy dilly bars when I said my mom's cant eat dairy. Ms Pat, youre an exceptional operator for Dairy Queen. If you were closer to home, I'd be going to your Dairy Queen every single Day.

I really enjoy coming to this Dairy Queen. The restaurant has a cozy, comfortable vibe, and the diner is always so clean and organized. I really appreciate how consistently good the food is. Each time I visit, the food is always delicious, and I never have any problems with quality or taste. The restaurant clearly prioritizes fresh ingredients, and it is very easy to tell that there is great attention to detail during the cooking process. The portion sizes are also very generous given the prices you pay. The customer service is outstanding as well. I always get my food very quickly, and there are never any mistakes. All the employees are always super friendly and willing to help, and nobody ever has a rude or hostile attitude. The enthusiasm and positive energy everyone brings makes the restaurant feel extremely welcoming and inviting. I also love how the owner Pat genuinely cares about her customers. She always asks how I am doing when she sees me, and she always makes sure that I am satisfied with my order. Whenever I am nearby I always make sure to stop by, and my day always gets better each time I visit.

This Dairy Queen is an important legacy to LaPorte—a high school favorite, sundae on a Sunday, and place of refuge on a hot Texas day. I worked for the owner, Pat, 20+years ago, and there are many in our community who know firsthand—this is the spot for delicious excellence. I recently visited for a banana split while in town and my order was made perfectly, and service outstanding. This Dairy Queen has high standards for food presentation and quality over other nearby locations, and I was impressed how clean, well-organized restaurant is—after all these years, the music and temperature are still fabulous for relaxing. Please stop by for a meal, support and celebrate this local treasure. I’ll definitely be back!!

Northwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northwest side side of town. Start the day off with San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Vicki's Antiques on Main. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

The San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site is a remarkable destination that pays tribute to Texas' fight for independence from Mexico. Dominated by the impressive 567-foot San Jacinto Monument, this site commemorates General Sam Houston's pivotal victory over Santa Anna in 1836. Visitors can ascend to an observation deck offering breathtaking views at approximately 480 feet high, providing a unique perspective of the surrounding area.
The adult ticket is $14. I came here around 15:45, and there was a very educational guiding movie about history. You can ride the elevator and go to the top of the memorial building; the view is astonishing. At about 17:30, you can walk around the park and enjoy the sunset. The pool reflects the monument building, and the wind is breezing. It is a wonderful place to chill.

The battleground was a fun time. We stopped here and ran around the park seeing many birds, turtles, and other things. The actual museum was closed during our visit, however we could still walk around the outside and the rest of the park. They are currently doing some construction/updating to part of the park, so there should be some extra things to view in the coming months. I assume this might be from the lack of being "open" but the bathroom, which is open without a door, was accompanied by a massive wolf spider roughly the size of an adult's fist and large frog in the paper towel dispenser where the towels should be. Anyhow, the battleground is very scenic and beautiful, just keep your eyes open on the bathrooms if you use them.

I have wanted to go visit this monument for many years! It was great. Awesome views. Great movie that tells the story. Stay in SW Houston when working there and it was a short 20/25 minute drive. So glad I went.

We had been here before with our kids at least a decade earlier. They have a good sized exhibit in the base and part of the admission fee includes a ride to the top of the monument. It is really neat to see the surrounding bay from the top. I am uncomfortable with heights but wasn’t bothered by this here as the observation area is completely enclosed. I don’t know how busy it gets as we went in on a Friday morning. Overall it was an enjoyable experience.
Matt T — Google review
Ostentatious is what comes to mind. The grounds are well kept, quiet and serene. I haven't been inside the museum yet... but walking around the property and building itself tells the story of how Texas began...how the 18 minute war was won. Its definitely a site to see. I look forward to going back to thr observation deck. This monument is taller than the Washington Memorial. Its difficult to fit the monument into one pic. On my visits, there never seems to be a wait to get inside the museum. 🤷🏽‍♀️#BiggerInTexas....

I have been coming here since my parents would bring me in a stroller. People still referred to the park as The Battlegrounds. I'm 64 now, enjoyed innumerable picnics and introducing out-of-staters to Texas History. The park has changed over the years, mostly for the better. It's always fun to go to the observation deck. I miss the Texas. She belongs here, not Galveston, but the important thing is that she's preserved.

I took Jacob here and he was very interested in the exhibits and film. I don’t think he completely understood what it was about but he liked it and asked questions. Very educational for all ages and worth taking the time to visit.

A beautiful and well kept piece of Texas History. Beware though, the museum is not open everyday like what Google describes. It is closed Monday and Tuesday. The battlegrounds are open every day though. We went on a Tuesday and google said it was open. We showed up disappointed the park store and museum was closed. Overall, happy to pay this beautiful piece of history a visit. They do a good job keeping it running

The San Jacinto Museum is a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts, showcasing a diverse collection of artifacts, documents, books, and images that span Texas history. Situated outside the museum is the impressive San Jacinto Monument, standing as the world's tallest war memorial and offering an observation deck with stunning views of the surrounding area. This iconic site commemorates the pivotal Battle of San Jacinto, which played a significant role in shaping both Texan and Mexican history.
Gem of a history lesson and a wonderful monument! We came here for a quick detour as our hotel room wasn’t yet available. It’s a wonder full piece of Texas history. You can ride to the top with admission and look out over the bay. It’s definitely worth taking an hour to learn more about the founding and history of Texas.

Well maintained and very clean. Staff are professional, and museum worth to visit including its documentary movie and tour. The young man in the elevator had advised us not to miss one view at the top of monument. And Steven (tour man) had taken us around the park and described the battle as we are in it, well done Steven.

Talk about an iconic piece of Texas history hidden deep in the city of La Porte, TX. My suggestion, come early, stay late and bring the family. There's a lot to see, experience, and learn around the monument itself. The monument itself was astonishing to look at, add a museum and theater inside, plus an elevator ride to the top makes for one heck of a historical experience alone. But, wait there's more. Take a free ride on the daily tour van included with your entry for an educational tour around the battleground area making this experience a truly memorable one for the entire family. If you've been before I suggest to make another stop before they start a planned massive renovation of the monument and battleground. Kudos to our tour guide Daniel for a truly informative tour. Did I forget to mention the breathtaking fall weather sunset view?

A must go for history lovers! There is a nice view on top of the tower but the telescopes weren't working when we visited. The movie showing the history and significance of the area was nice to see too.

The San Jacinto Museum is a fantastic historical site and absolutely worth a visit. It’s very educational and informative, giving a great insight into Texas history. The view from the top of the monument is incredible and definitely a highlight — a beautiful panoramic scene you won’t want to miss. There’s also a peaceful reflection pool, a small but interesting artifact museum, and a nice gift shop with unique items. The surrounding area has well-kept trails and parks, making it a great place to walk around and enjoy the scenery. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and the site is handicap accessible with free parking, which is a big plus. Overall, a wonderful experience for history lovers, families, and anyone who wants to enjoy a meaningful day outdoors.

Beautiful city park. Great for kids. There is a playground and views of big ships.
Katherine M — Google review
Last visited 3-18-2022. This is a very nice park with wonderful views of the water!! On the floor of the small gazebo is a life-size map of the bays. The playground is a reasonable size and in great condition! There are covered picnic tables. The parking and areas are handicap accessible. This Park is right across from The Monument Inn restaurant and beside the ferry. I also noticed a smart eco-design in how the playground benches are weighted down using rocks and shells.
Sarah K — Google review
This is a quiet, clean park. Right on the water next to the ferry. We saw a dolphin, lots of seagulls, tugboats and a large ship leaving the port. The playground is pretty small, but there are lots of picnic tables. Many of them are waterside.
Bonnie G — Google review
Very beautiful, clean, serene little park on the water. A nice place to watch ships coming in and out of the Port of Houston. My only complaint is that some of the walking path is very uneven with dangerously "textured" tiles. I found it to be treacherous. Someone could easily trip on the raised surfaces and get hurt.
Jacquelyn K — Google review
Deer Park and La Porte don’t really have “nice/modern” parks like Downtown Houston, so this was a huge surprise when we visited to see the upgrades. Modern signage and history telling is wonderful and just serene next to the water where you can fish, and vessel watch along the ship channel. A good reminder of Houston being a huge importer. Something that can improve are the signage on the fishing pier, they have faded out so you can’t make out the historic passages. Also adding more shade to the playground area as it gets really hot. Also adding more playground options like a small rock climbing, maybe even a mini splash pad. The map in the pavilion is pretty neat and beautiful along with the wild flowers at this site. This is a great stop if you do the battleground tour, and the ferry ride and then end it to eat at Monument Inn. Beware, during peak getting off work hours (3-5:30PM) from the plants, the ferry line gets long. But it is one of the last free ferry boats in the USA, and not just that but if there is ever an emergency where both the beltway 8 bridge and Baytown bridge are inaccesible this a backup option to have besides the Washburn tunnel in order to get across the ship channel.

Vicki's Antiques on Main is a co-op antique mall that houses various shops offering a wide range of vintage household items and collectibles. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to visit this establishment and was impressed by their vast collection of antique glassware, Pyrex, FireKing, Jadeite, pottery, and more. They have an extensive selection of merchandise including toys, neon signs, and other rare finds.
I visited Vicki’s Antiques yesterday and found it to be a wonderful source of antique glass, Pyrex, FireKing, Jadeite, pottery, etc. There was a nice selection of everything - toys, neon signs, antiques as well as many really hard to find items. I found the owner, Vicki to be very kind, knowledgeable and considerate. I hope to visit again soon!

Do not bother trying to sell your items here. I called their buyer on Monday about selling some china, at which time she said she would probably be a buyer at $100-$120 and asked me to come in during store hours. I showed up the very next Friday and the on site manager asked if my wife and I had an appointment. I said no as the buyer hadn't said anything about making one. Then she called the buyer and apparently no one could even remember talking to me just a few days prior. The manager then said that their china season was "over" and was so rude in the way that she intimated that I was the one who had made some sort of mistake or waited too long that my wife walked out of the store and ended up crying. If you don't want to buy something, don't buy something, but don't make a phone offer and then take no notes of it to pass on to your staff. On top of that, there's no need for your staff to treat someone who's acted on good faith as if he or she is somehow "in the wrong" when it's your store that's created his or her expectations. I won't buy anything here and I certainly won't call them again to sell anything.

Big shoutout to Noe for the awesome service. Quick, friendly, and always cracking jokes he had the whole table laughing. The guy could honestly have his own comedy show! And you can tell Mr. Diego takes real pride in the restaurant. He’s always checking in on tables, making sure everything runs smoothly. The place has beautiful murals in every room as you can see by my pictures. nice setting as well. the ladies were very nice. This restaurant goes back at least 40 years, set in a little beautiful town. one reviewer commented hes been going there for nearly 30 years and by that i can infer or conclude he was right, the food is good and the service. Please support these mom and pop restaurants, you will be doing them a great service.

On a Sunday at 5pm this was the only highly rated restaurant open close to the rec center and I was hungry. I'm so happy I ended up here. They have all day breakfast so I got 3 different breakfast tacos: bacon and eggs, dried beef and eggs, and chorizo and eggs. Each one was a nice size and came with free chips and green and red salsa. I believe their tortillas are made in house too. It sure tasted like it. Delicious and filling. There was nothing to complain about and the cashier that took my order gave me plenty of suggestions on which breakfast tacos to get. Super friendly and patient to take my order. I would eat here again for sure 😊 Parking is along the road out front. It was pretty dangerous since there is not any space to the side where you can ssfely exit and enter your vehicle. They might have parking in the back I didn't see.

It’s a bit crowded in there everything’s to close. We went in as a family of 6 one being a baby. They had one section of tables closed off and only had a booth and a table of4 available I asked if they could open up the other section for a proper table and the old lady with short grey hair said no that we either had to seat in the booth all crowded or the table of 4 chairs. Then another waiter comes to tell us if we can move to the table of 4 like hello we are 6 ppl. We just ended up leaving instead. It was the trick or treat fest they had.

Seafood restaurant
Located in La Porte, the Monument Inn is a long-standing restaurant and banquet facility offering picturesque views of the Houston Ship Channel. Despite enduring flood damage from two hurricanes, this bayfront establishment continues to serve up an impressive amount of seafood annually.
I had the stuffed crab at Monument Inn, and it was absolutely amazing! The crab was perfectly seasoned, generously portioned, and had that fresh-off-the-boat taste that’s hard to find. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, and the service was friendly and attentive. One tip: make sure to sit by the window if you can—the view of the water and the ferry coming in and out is such a great touch and really adds to the overall experience. Whether you're a seafood lover or just looking for a great meal, I highly recommend giving this place a try!

My first visit to the Monument Inn in more than 15 years was a pleasant surprise. You never know what the passage of time will do to the quality and the ambience of a restaurant like this. However, I was not disappointed. First, the drive up to the Monument Inn, you pass through a very historic park, honoring the history of Texas. Then as you approach the restaurant, you can’t help but notice it’s right on the water as Ship traffic passes back-and-forth. Now you’re in a great mood for a good meal. Patrons are directed upstairs, where the many are provided a wonderful view of the water. From there it’s pure goodness. The appetizers with stuffed crab, shrimp, oysters, alligator and more were delicious. The famous cinnamon rolls seem to have grown larger over time , but just as delicious. The main entrée was again a whole assortment of essentially fried seafood was hot fresh and delicious. The service was impeccable. I can’t say a negative thing about the entire experience.

Went here to celebrate my Grandmother's birthday with a party over 50! We were not able to reserve a room because they were all booked, however the staff did an amazing job accommodating our party and had us all seated in one general location. My Grandmother was very happy. The food was hot and delicious. The children in the party loved the bread baskets. Garry served the table that my Grandmother was seated, as well as my mom and children. He was absolutely amazing and attentive. Very friendly, professional, and extremely patient. The table had about 25 adults and children and Garry handled everyone to perfection. All of the other tables seem pleased with the services they received as well. Thank you Garry and Monument Inn for making her day special!!

We had the lunch specials of General Tso’s chicken and chicken with broccoli. They came with a choice of soup, white or fried rice and an egg roll. The food was tasty and the portions were ample. The price was very reasonable. We will be back.

Food is super yummy!! And portions are really huge! I went during happy lunch hour 11:00-3:00PM and got sushi on the lunch menu, let me tell you for the price of $14.95 I was expecting a measly three or four things of sushi! To my surprise absolutely NOT! Came with a whole plate full! And the server was phenomenal! Greeted us immediately and brought everything out quickly! Definitely recommend and the price is WELL WORTH IT!

Really great dinner! Had a ton of food and took some home with us. Highly recommend. Back again! This is our 4th visit and we are not disappointed. This gorgeous platter came out and we were thrilled!

This is a local treasure. Food is always fresh and delicious. Their sweet potato roll is the best I've ever had. Will definitely return again and again.

We love it here! The sushi is so great, the atmosphere is so casual and cute. This is not the place for large parties though. It's a very small location but the menu options are not lacking at all. Definitely recommend the wonton soup, fried gyoza, shrimp sushi, shaggy dog roll, shrimp lo mein, general chicken, and crawfish roll.

This was our (my husband and I) first time here. It was recommended by a friend. It was busy, but not crazy busy. Place is small and cute. Food was delicious. Service could have been better. We had no cutlery or napkins. Even after we got our food. We were "forgotten" and had to keep reminding our waiter and even the cashier for things we requested. So for our first visit, it wasn't a great first impression. We will try again only because the food was good. Hopefully service will better at that time. ***Update: We seemed to have gotten food poisoning shortly afterwards. Woke up with our stomachs not feeling well. We won't be returning***

DIAMOND IN THE RUFF Been here twice now, and had takeout during the pandemic, but the food has always been amazing. I can’t believe my 10 year old daughter even loves this place. The wonton soup is some of the best I’ve had. I would definitely recommend this place. Like previous reviews, you do not have to drive all the way to Clear Lake / Webster or Houston area to get great sushi, rolls, or dishes. Stay local
