Addo Elephant Main Camp

4.5

Campground
Addo Elephant Main Camp offers a unique experience with its viewing deck above the waterhole, where visitors can observe wildlife such as elephants, buffalo, kudu, and warthogs. The camp is located about nine hours' drive from Cape Town and is often combined with a trip along the Garden Route. Despite some minor maintenance issues in the facilities, visitors have reported positive interactions with the friendly staff. The park provides well-marked routes for self-navigation and offers picturesque picnic spots with clean amenities.
We didn't stay over but I'm sure their rooms are great! Friendly staff and beautiful landscapes! Amazing Elephants and wildlife

Bathrooms were very smelly and not at all clean. Dont think doors have even been wiped down. Some pollyfilla on all holes in walls will make a big difference . Spekboom decor a lovely touch. Cattle Baron served cracked and chipped crockery and beams above dining area very dirty and unhygienic. Only 2 tables occupied and they still got my order wrong.
Sharon G — Google review
so we went camping as we do every so often and this time decided to go to Addo it was a wonderful time with my family. when we got there they assigned someone to help set up our camper it was not necessary but appreciated. the animal sightings are good however there are only 8 lions in the whole park. some say 6 some say 7 and I say 8 to be optimistic. the road in is horrible especially from mosselside and if you are towing you can only use the one gate.
Anton R — Google review
We had a picnic in the day visitor section ~ absolutely delightful! The table and benches were quite clean (just needed a bit of drying off because it had rained), the spekboom was nicely trimmed so that there was sufficient privacy ~ we thoroughly enjoyed it!
Pamela W — Google review
I had an amazing time at Addo! The campsite was nice and big. There wasn't a lot of restrooms or showers but luckily I never had to wait to use it. There were sneaky little monkeys that snatched our food so be careful! Overall I had a great time.
Carla H — Google review
We camped in the caravan camp with tents so the camp site was nice and big. You hear lions and other animals during the night and the underground hide out and the water hole is close so it's so cool to visit these spots during the evening. The camp site is kept cleaning and everything you need is there. The ablution blocks can be cleaner though and the shower rooms are really tight, but the water pressure is good.
Lisa-Mare B — Google review
Addo Elephant National Park campsite review: Addo Elephant National Park will forever be one of our favorite National Parks, BUT ... The campsites are nice and mostly level, each with electricity and water points within a few meters. Stands are gravel covered, so for sensitive feet, a groundsheet is good to have. Due to droughts over the last decade, as well as ageing, trees have become few, with limited shade. The camp in general is beautiful, with stands separated with hedgerows of spekbos. BUT........ The bathrooms were renovated early in 2025, and could have been nice. However, they are filthy, with build up of dirt and mildew. Especially the showers. Some showers are blocked. Superficial cleaning happens everyday, but clearly no deep cleaning happens. If suffering from cancer or some other dread disease that breaks down your immunity, it is ,to say the least, risky to use the communal bathrooms. I think part of the problem is also that the bathrooms are under pressure. Not only the camper's use this bathroom. Over the several days that we were here, I often observed tourists from busses and game viewing vehicles, as well as Sanparks staff frequenting the camper's facilities. Now i don't like hanging dirty laundry out on social media, but yes, we did speak to camp management and we did bring the situation to their attention. Several days ago. And without being rude or nasty. Management was all smiles and promises, but up to today it remains filthy. On a positive, plenty hot water is available. The communal kitchen and scullery is sparcely kitted out with electric hobs and a freezer. Other parks visited on this trip had hydroboils, fridges and microwaves as well. There is a laundry with washing machines operated by tokens. Tokens are available from reception. A swimming pool is available. It is so sad, especially with Addo Elephant National Park being one of the main attractions in the Sanparks stable. A big let down after visiting Karoo National Park, Camdeboo National Park and Mountain Zebra National Park. That said, Addo will forever be one of my favorite National Parks, especially after 30 years of regular visits. But please, pull up your socks guys!
Sas S — Google review
Reception efficient yet not friendly Game drive a rip off Cattle Barron needs to be replace or jacked up. Cannot even get a simple toasted cheese and tomatoe with chips. Addo shop expensive

JACK'S Picnic Site

4.6
(686)
Nestled within the heart of Addo National Park, JACK'S Picnic Site is a delightful retreat that offers visitors a unique blend of nature and comfort. This charming spot features picnic tables tucked away in cozy alcoves surrounded by lush bushland, providing an intimate setting for enjoying meals amidst the wildlife. During my previous visit, I was enchanted by the playful Four-striped mice and Red-necked Spurfowl that eagerly scavenged for crumbs from our humble cheese and cracker spread.
Always fun to watch and search for wild animals. It never gets old and is a great activity with family and friends. It's better to enter from the front gate and finish the top side first, then move down and exit at the back gate. After you’re tired, you’re not in the mood for all the speed bumps after you exit the front gate. When you’re at Jack's picnic, do take something for the sun, like sunscreen or a shade net, because shade is minimal there, but it’s a great place to braai.
Stiggy 7 — Google review
An oasis between the elephants. Beautifull/ clean picnic sites. Ablution facilities clean and comfortable. Braais also available. The "wild" is all around you. A must stop when visiting Addo Nat Park.
David L — Google review
A great place to stop for a picnic, braai, lunch that you can bring so that you don't have to go back to the exit. Shaded private spots. And a clean toilet!
Annette W — Google review
We stopped here twice on our self game drives in Addo Elephant National Park to use the restrooms, stretch our legs and do some birding. The restrooms were very nice and clean. Much cleaner than you would expect in a remote place like this. They smelled very nice too! The fenced area is a 500 hectare “botanical reserve” set aside to protect and monitor the plantlife from the impact of elephants. You enter the area by pressing a button to open the fence. Once you get to the middle there is a large open area encircled by isolated picnic sites, each with a covered seating area and braai. It was very quiet on our visits and we were the only ones there.
Arthur W — Google review
Very nice clean picnic area...place to braai too...we had a nice picnic next time defnitly having a braai...the bird life is serounding you wile you sitting there...so nice

Had a nice time, but staff came 4.30 to be out by 5pm. The park is open till 7pm. What's that? 😮 Directions from main camp should be clearer to picnic site.
Kad K — Google review
Found Jack's Picnic inside ADDO Elephant Park to be very clean and ideal spot to stop and have a break or something to eat and drink...lovely sheltered private picnic spots/tables
Antoinette F — Google review
The picnic site is very neat and well laid out. Lots of little private picnic spots with shade and sun. The bird life is really great in that area. The ablutions are clean and tidy and are constantly checked by Park staff to ensure all in order.

National park
Kadouw Lookout offers stunning panoramic views of the game park, allowing visitors to observe elephants either individually or in herds. The lookout provides a 360-degree vantage point, making it an ideal spot to admire the beautiful landscape and wildlife. While there is only a bench at the lookout, the opportunity to witness such breathtaking scenery makes it a worthwhile visit for nature enthusiasts.
Beautiful views from this lookout. You get a 360 degree view over the game park.

The Main Camp Interpretive Centre at Addo Elephant National Park is a must-visit for those interested in learning about the park's history, ecology, and conservation efforts. The center houses intriguing artifacts and informative displays that shed light on the diverse flora and fauna of the area. Visitors can delve into the stories behind landmarks like Domkrag and Hapoor dams, with interesting tidbits such as how Domkrag dam got its name from a leopard tortoise known for trying to jack up cars.
The interpretive center at Addo Elephant National Park was a pleasant surprise. It offers a wealth of information about the park's history, its diverse flora and fauna, and presents it all in a compact and high-quality museum setting. The space features beautifully curated displays, intriguing artifacts, and informative signs. Once you've entered the park, the center is free to explore. Besides being educational, it's also a welcoming air-conditioned space to escape the heat. Don't miss this when you're visiting Addo's main rest camp!

Just like everything else in Addo it's beautiful but not maintained. There's a lot of interesting info and interactive stations for the kids. It was fun despite a few things that had obviously once been there missing.

Addo Wildlife is a charming lodge located just 10km outside of the Addo Elephant National Park. The lodge offers cozy safari-style chalets with free-roaming antelope on the grounds. Guests can enjoy an outdoor pool, restaurant, and bar on-site. Addo Elephant National Park is known for its thriving elephant population and offers fantastic opportunities for elephant viewing on safari tours.
We so enjoyed our time at Addo Wildlife. The cottages are well equipped and extremely luxurious and spacious! Dinner at the restaurant was delicious! The game drive was amazing! Richard, our ranger, was very informative and we nearly witnessed a lion kill which was really exciting. Supper in the beautiful, outdoor Boma after the drive was a treat! Thank you to LeRoux and staff for a fantastic time we spent at your great lodge!

We stayed for 3 days and were very happy and comfortable. We got to see the springboks every morning grazing outside our chalet. We went on 2 excellent safaris and were very happy with the guide and his knowledge of the parks and the animals. We would highly recommend Addo Wildlife for a carefree few days where you can park your car and relax. Food is excellent at their restaurant 😋

On Heritage Day 2025, my family and I visited your stunning restaurant. We were delighted by the exceptional service we received, despite having read nearly all of the previous reviews. Upon our arrival, the waitress, SIYA, greeted us with courtesy and directed us to a table that accommodated five individuals. She allowed us to take our time and peruse the menu before returning promptly to take our orders. We had to ask for five more minutes! The new owner stopped by our table at least five times during our visit!! The dinner was fantastic, and every single person of my family had their expectations exceeded! Congratulations to you and your team, Sir!! We'll be back! Hamilton De Beer and Family from PE.

Beautiful restaurant just need different staff. The service was pathetic. Went there to watch the rugby and have some nice food. Was told that we couldn't order anything besides for breakfast because it was before 11. Ordered the breakfast waitress got my order wrong.i asked her if I can have a small side chips she said not before 11. Only too see chips with main meals being served. She was nowhere didn't even check up on us once. The manager is just a pathetic. That place could do so much better with staff that has drive. I felt so bad for the family that walked in and just stood around because they were waiting to be seated. The one waitress was busy rearranging the lounge area.she looked at them so many times without asking them if they have been helped. 2 waitresses walked pass them twice while they were just standing there. The food took so long ontop it. Won't be going back there again. Just hope that the accommodation staff isn't as pathetic.

We were two couples staying together in a luxury chalet with a shared kitchen and central sitting room. Each bedroom had its own bathroom and a private door opening onto the patio. The chalets are spacious and beautifully designed, surrounded by springboks, an orange orchard, and well-kept, lush green lawns and gardens. Each morning we woke up to the sound of birdsong all around us—a truly peaceful setting. The food at the restaurant was delicious and exceptional, and we’d like to compliment both the owner and the staff for their outstanding hospitality. A wonderful stay in every way!

A phenomenal experience. The hosts are the most divine couple. The accommodation... I felt like a queen! The food is top class - delicious! Overall, the best best best spoil right on oir doorstep of Port Elizabeth.

Excellent. Only negative was the chicken supreme which was very dry and overcooked. The rest of the meal was really good. The red wine was corked but they took it back without hesitation.
Derek S — Google review
Although it's a family restaurant, the kids menu are very limited. We went for breakfast, and we could only order from the breakfast menu which had less than 10 items toel choose from. Went I ordered the burger and fries for the kids, I was told they can't do burger and fries as they are only serving breakfast, I asked for the kids breakfast menu then, and they don't have a breakfast menu for kids but we can't order from the normal menu... I was confused, and asked what do you offer then for kids??? I was told scramble eggs or toasted cheese, which I'm fine with but I would expect a bigger menu option for kids. Secondly, the animal enclosure are clean and neat but the big bird enclosure had 3 sick birds in and a injured bird that was limping around. The meerkat enclosure had plastic and material laying around. I was not impressed with the animal enclosures. Overall the venue and gardens are stunning.

Crisscross Adventures offers a variety of safari experiences in Addo Elephant National Park. Visitors can opt for a self-drive but are likely to see fewer animals without the expertise of the guides. The tours are well-organized, safe, and allow ample time to observe diverse wildlife including elephants, zebras, ostriches, and more.
Amazing day with Denisley. We were lucky to get his instinct to drive us straight to a couple of lions in the morning. His knowledge on wildlife was limitless. We were not sure what to expect for the lunch, but the braii was delicious and the salad super fresh. Thank you very much for making our holiday special.

My husband and I did the quadbike adventure with Crisscross Adventures. At first we start off slow between the citrus and then it got more adventures and more technical....that was so much fun. Our guide was amazing. He told us all about the area and the farm and he took lots off photo's and videos for us. There is also a strava segment "Chrislin Lodge Loop". We can't wait to come back for mire adventures with Crisscross Adventures.

Had the best day ever on Safari with crisscross adventures!! Got taken in open top safari across addo and Schotia safari reserve, saw zebra, giraffe, elephants, rhinos, many antelope and deer, wilder beasts, warthogs and buffalo! Densley was an incredible driver and so knowledgeable about all the animals - we even got treated to an amazing cooked lunch and many snacks and drinks. Densley went out of his way to ensure we saw all the animals and took great care of us, giving us ponchos for when it started to rain - thank you!!

We had a nice Safari trip through the Addo National Park. Unfortunately, there is some miscommunication between this company and the get your guide (app). There are several wrong information provided by the get your guide. So the get your guide inform you that you need to have the cash with you to pay the entry to the park. Well unfortunately you cannot use cash because it's a cashless facility. Also, the app states that the activity starts at 2:00. This is not true. You have to be at the national park gate at 2:00 which means you have to be at tour operator 1:30. That's when the actual activity starts. So when we thought we were perfectly on time we were late. They inform us on arrival. Also the description of the vehicle should be better as we thought we will have the real Safari experience with open vehicle. The vehicle we used was completely closed . Only the windows were possible to open.

Had a brilliant full day tour with Densley in an open top safari. Went around Addo and Schotia and managed to see 4 of the big 5 even on a rainy day where animals were being more shy. Very knowledgeable, skilled driver and also felt well looked after. A fantastic lunch provided and all around top experience!

Great tour in Addo! Communication with Criss Cross went smoothly. Prices are a bit high, but perfect quality. Our guide, Stephan, was very very knowledgeable. At the park he spotted the lions elephants. The guides from different companies contact eachother on the sightings of that moment. These you would never encouter so fast when visiting with your own vehicle. We had braai lunch at the park at a resting area. Lunch was great Thanks again!

I did an open vehicle full day safari with crisscross adventures and it was just amazing. We had the best guide, Steven, who was just wonderful and never got tired of answering questions and explaining things. We saw 4 of the big 5, had a thrilling encounter with a rhino and saw many other animals. I can just recommend booking a Safari with Crisscross Adventures.

The Addo Cattle Baron Grill & Bistro, located in the Addo Elephant National Park, has been serving visitors since 2012. The restaurant offers a diverse menu featuring burgers, salads, venison, and steak. Guests can choose to dine picnic-style on the outdoor deck or in the more formal indoor area. The ambiance is modern yet relaxed, providing a cozy atmosphere for diners. The friendly staff members are known for their excellent service and knowledge of the menu.
After a long, rewarding day in the Addo Elephant National Park, we stopped at the Cattle Baron for late lunch. Our waiter was fantastic! Attentive and entertaining. The food was great, too.

My son went onto the website about the restaurant which gave amazing reviews. When we arrived there the menu was less than grand. The Springbok rack, which we were very interested in, wasn’t available and by their own admission it hadn’t been available for a very long time. The waitress volunteered that “maybe it should removed from the menu”. The toilets were dirty, taps not working properly and soap dispensers broken and/or empty. To think that the catering staff dealing with food may not be washing their hands after using the toilet “facilities”, is very disturbing. There is only one toilet for mothers or fathers to engage in a baby’s nappy change, which also doubles as a disabled toilet, and on several occasions they were used by the women staff; when addressed there was a verbal apology in English then a discussion in Xhosa with a colleague nearby followed by laughter. The toilet roll holder in that same bathroom was broken and the toilet roll was hanging. The orders weren’t correct especially the rib eye which was very rare almost a blue steak in lieu of medium rare. They arrived without the accompaniment of vegetables which was on the menu. Creamy spinach and butternut, and the portion was minimal. We actually had to request it and they appeared surprised. The vinyl bench chairs were worn and frayed. Personally I would not recommend the restaurant to anyone. As a proud South African, I was embarrassed that foreigners were subjected to this display of South African “Hospitality”. I also felt that the friendliness was not genuine but on show for possible tips. This is a genuine review I have photographed the evidence.

We had the tooth and claw with tent camp overnight! Honestly, best decision made! We loved it from pick up, seeing 4 out of 5 big 5 animals. Learned a lot from Anthony, who made it even more special. We had an unforgettable experience at Schotia Private Game Reserve! We saw an incredible number of animals up close — lions, elephants, hippos, giraffes, and many more. Our guide, Fontaine, was fantastic: knowledgeable, passionate, and full of great stories. He made every game drive both exciting and informative. Our lodge far exceeded our expectations. It was spacious, beautifully furnished, and incredibly cozy. It even had a bathtub in addition to a large shower — perfect for relaxing after a day out in the bush. The food was delicious, and the communal meals around the fire created such a warm, welcoming, and social atmosphere. We truly enjoyed chatting with other guests and the guides in the evenings — it made the whole experience even more special. A particular highlight for us was the thoughtful care and attention shown to my husband, who has a mobility impairment. The staff were incredibly supportive and accommodating. Since he couldn’t climb into the open vehicles, they made sure he had a comfortable front seat next to the driver — which allowed him to fully enjoy the safari experience without any stress. We can’t recommend Schotia highly enough — it was one of the most memorable parts of our trip to South Africa!

AMAZING! WONDERFUL! VALUE for money safari 100%. Book a 'Tooth & Claw Safari' directly with them. Passionate and knowledgeable qualified guids who knows the animals and their behavior very well keep you safe and in awe. Wonderful meal at Lapa before returning home. I would highly recommend booking accommodation at Schotia as well as you don't have to drive at night. Children of all ages welcome.

We had an amazing time with the full day safari that we booked with Schotia Safaris. First part of the day was a visit to Addo Elephanh park, we were literally surrounded by hundreds of elephants, only 1 meter from our van! A truly unforgettable experience which I would highly recommend to anyone. During lunch BBQ was served with cold beers & wine. In the afternoon we visited Schotia Game Reserve with our guide Zane. This was the best guide you could imagine. Very knowledgeable and funny person which made our tour 1000 times better. In the evening there is a lovely dinner served in the park itself. This day was one of the highlights of our trip!

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip with Schotia Safaris. Our guide (Edward) was knowledgeable and funny - he ensured we had a pleasant stay. The food was delicious and we enjoyed meeting other guests around the campfire at night - songs were sung and sighting-highlights of the day were discussed. Whilst the accommodation we had booked was rustic, we thought the Bush Camp was well equipped, the beds were comfortable and the experience of sleeping inside a gamepark was thrilling! The guided tours were well led by Edward, whose game vehicle was well-prepared for all weather by having both blankets and ponchos available for when it rained. Schotia’s close proximity to Addo allowed us to enter the National Park for a day as well. Our highlights at Schotia included seeing lions eating a waterbuck, laughing around the fire, the bush walk and of course the great food. Would definitely recommend - a huge thanks to Justin for having us, and Edward for guiding us.

We did the tooth and claw tour with Zane, started 14:00 and ended at 20:00. What a knowledgeable and passionate guide. The vehicle was comfortable and water and a blanket provided at every seat. We saw a huge number of animals which was amazing and we got super close to get some awesome pics. We stopped for refreshments around 16:00 then headed back into the park. At 18:00 made our way to the lappa, a beautiful camp in the middle of the park where dinner was prepared for us. After dinner we did a night drive back to the main entrance. This tour was such a lovely experience and highly recommend Schotia Safaris. They really offer the most remarkable tour and provide you with all the information about all of the animals. Big thank you to Jenny & Peter and of course our guide Zane. We can’t wait to do it again

We had a fantastic game drive with Scott this month! Scott was extremely knowledgeable about the animals and we learned a lot. He was also an expert driver, navigating through the landscape with ease to help position the truck for the best photo angles. We saw hundreds of animals, including giraffes, zebras, hippos, elephants, rhinos, and lions. If you’re looking to see it all, Scothia is the place to do it. This trip made my husband fall in love with Safaris! The dinner provided in the evening was cooked by the staff and was delicious. Thank you to everyone at Scothia and especially to Scott for hosting us!

This reserve might be a bit smaller than the others but what it lacks in space makes it easier to actually spot animals. We were the only one in the reserve and the guide managed to find a lot of animals in a fairly short time. We saw elephants, hippos, rhinos, lion lionesses and cubs, zebras, whartogs, wildebeest even giraffes but from afar. The guide was very knowledgeable and ready to answer all of our questions. Finally we had a wonderful dinner that was included in the ticket. The food was amazing and the dinner space was very special with a nice fireplace to have drinks around. I highly recommend that place !

Nestled within South Africa's Eastern Cape Province, the Alexandria Dune Field is a stunning natural wonder that forms part of the expansive Addo Elephant National Park. This remarkable area spans 686,000 hectares and includes a marine reserve, making it a haven for biodiversity. Just an hour's drive from Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth), visitors can explore this unique landscape that boasts not only breathtaking white sand dunes but also rich archaeological history linked to the nomadic Strandloper people.
The vast of this dune is impressive; around 50 Kms along the coast, reaching altitudes of up to 140 meters. We took a river boat that brought us to these dunes. Dry and wet sliding were available but my favorite was just to contemplate the peace of this place.

Beautiful sand dunes. Lovely to take the family for a fun day out! Make sure you take some board to sand board down into the river !! Beautiful views from above the dunes too with lots of bird life being a plus ! Just very relaxing and so close to PE a little gem on our corner.

Amakhala Game Reserve

Wildlife and safari park
Wildlife park
Amakhala Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape offers budget-friendly day safaris and horseback riding trips to see the Big 5, giraffes, zebras, and black wildebeests. The reserve is relatively small and fenced from all sides. Visitors can stay at Bukela Lodge, which provides comfortable tented camps with a splash pool. The lodge's staff are friendly and accommodating, with knowledgeable rangers leading safari drives.
I hava always wanted to visit South Africa from being a young boy, our 15 night visit culminated in a 3 night stay at Amakhala Bush lodge in a Double Luxury Thatched Tent on an All Inclusive basis. We arrived at 1pm which was plenty of time to have a quick lunch and freshen up before our first game drive at 3pm which we were very excited for. It didn’t disappoint! A fabulous drive lots to see and learn about from our guide Brett who was more than happy to answer any questions and share his excellent knowledge. The drives were twice a day the morning one leaving at 6am generally lasting between 3 and 3 1/2 hours. The food was amazing, the staff couldn’t do enough and our tent, I say tent, it was luxury wooden floored 5 star Brilliant, fabulous, absolutely loved it all!! Go see for yourself 🥰

What a great place to visit. I have had the opportunity to bring clients here a few times now and we have had the most incredible time at quatermain’s, from the knowledgeable guide to great camp staff. We have always been spoiled with breathtaking views of lions, cheetah and many of the antelope and elephants that call this reserve home.

Best experience ever! We stayed for three nights at the Safari Lodge. Our room was incredible with baby warthogs coming up to the waterhole in our backyard. Mnoni was our driver and we could not have been more lucky! He knew where to go, facts about all the animals, and made the whole experience for us! We had a lot of rain but we were able to see all the animals and he was very accommodating to all our requests (you say cheetahs - he says how far). We’re already planning our next trip back - Yebo!

Disappointing – Not a true Big 5 Safari We had a warm welcome on arrival, but unfortunately the safari itself was very disappointing. Our ranger Mr. T(Tian) looked unkempt, smelled of smoke, and the vehicle we used was old and had bird shit on the seats. Unlike other safaris, no blankets or hot water bottles were provided, even though it was very cold. We were promised to see the Big 5, but after hours of driving we only saw a few common animals (zebra, warthog, hartebeest, and one lion at a known spot). The ranger barely shared any information and often missed the animals we noticed first. The car even stopped 3 times so he could urinate, which felt unprofessional. Lunch at Hlosi Game Lodge was the only positive part – very good food and friendly service. For R5,500 (€275) for two people, we expected much more. No elephants, rhinos, buffalo, giraffes, hippos, Hyena’s or leopards. This was not worth the money and certainly not a “Big 5 Safari.”

We had the most amazing 3 days at Amakhala staying at Bush Lodge. Our ranger James/DJ was second to none and completely made our experience unforgettable. We could not have asked for a better experience- we saw the ‘Big 5’ within 24 hours of our stay! The food and dining experience was unforgettable. The service was perfect and the dishes were unique being served dishes such as kuda and Eland. We stayed in a tent at Bush lodge and it was very comfortable- the staff would run a bath for us every evening whilst we were on our evening safari drive (as I said the service was absolutely second to none). My family and I cannot recommend Amakhala/Bush lodge enough and our ranger James completely made our experience so we would definitely recommend a stay!
Gabriella N — Google review
By the 3rd day of my 6-day game drive I already witnessed four of the Big Five; saw three cheetah brothers gorging on a big animal, probably a zebra but not sure because they already consumed all the pelt, and watched a lioness chased but missed its kill of a zebra and a cheetah missed its impala.
Paul W — Google review
Our safari here was incredible!! Animals. We saw elephants, giraffes, lions, hippos, rhinos, ostrich’s, cheetahs, various antelope, various birds, water-buffalo, monkeys, water hogs, wilder-beast, zebras, and meerkats. We were incredibly lucky and they all came up really close to the vehicle. Lodge. Our lodge was amazing. Our bed was really comfy. Our room was clean. Had hot running water. The WiFi was really good. We had our own terrace and was extremely private. We had a wood burner which was very much needed. When it was dark they had a ranger walk us to and from our rooms. Which made us feel safe. Staff and facilities. There is a bar, two pools, a restaurant and seating areas. One of which looks over a watering hole where we saw elephants and lions come and drink. The staff were amazing! They were attentive and friendly. They could not do enough for you. They even put on a show after every morning drive singing and dancing. They offer archery, bird watching and night drives. We did not do any of these as we were always too knackered. It was so intimate as we went out of season and there was only a few of us there. We were on our honeymoon. So on our last night they set up a table for us in the area that looked over the watering hole. So we had a private meal together. Which was lovely. Food The food was lovely. Before our morning drive they would put on scones tea and coffee. When we got back we had the choice of cold and hot breakfast. Lunch were things like skewers and burgers. We then choose from a various array of options for dinner. They had appetisers, soup, starters, mains and a desert. They catered well for vegans and gluten free. Ranger Our ranger Monty was brilliant. He knew where all the animals would be and found every animal we asked for. He was great at following animal tracks and scents. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. Top tips. If you go when we did , at the end of June onward it is South Africans winter. The morning drives were freezing. There are no windows on the vehicles so the cold air really hits you. They give you ponchos. Which is helpful. But i got really cold. I would have taken a beanie hat and a winter coat if I had been told. Also if you are a fussy eater there is no where to buy crisps or chocolate. So take snacks if you think you might need them.

We stayed at the Bukela Lodge. Pretty hair raising journey off of the main road but absolutely worth the effort. From the moment we arrived and were welcomed by Zeus to the moment we left nothing was too much trouble. We stayed in a "tent", which was so comfortable, no unwelcome insect type guests. The food was excellent. The full body massage was amazing. The highlights were the game drives and we had the benefit of the company and knowledge of Wonga as our guide. He was fantastic and did everything to make sure we were able to see some amazing sights. He got us in the right place to get close up and personal with many animals but the elephants, lions and rhino were outstanding. Thank you.

It would be hard not to rate Shamwari highly, it really is magnificent. Good service at every level. Restaurant is excellent, really good on chef!! Good game, good projects (vulture rehab, breed and release) and well done!

Words can’t describe how much we enjoyed our trip to Shamwari! We stayed in Bayethe for our honeymoon and everything was simply perfect. In particular, our ranger Jesse was absolutely incredible. Not only was he super talented in tracking animals and educating us on them (and the birds, trees and plants too!), we was super friendly, answered all of our questions and really went above and beyond to make our trip memorable. On our final game drive, he managed to track an entire pride of lions from just a few paw prints which was the perfect end to our trip. As for the lodge itself - just wow! It’s extremely luxurious and the entire staff are very attentive and responsive. The food is spectacular and facilities are top notch! We will never forget our trip to Shamwari and hope to return one day.

An amazing stay at Eagles Crag in Shamwari. The lodge is beautifully decorated, so cosy yet still very modern and the rooms are something else, all very private and not overlooking any other rooms. The food was incredible - breakfast, lunch, dinner and game drive snacks were some of the best we’ve ever eaten - the quality is exceptional. Shoutout to Amanda who is the beauty therapist in the Spa - I had the most amazing one hour facial. We were exceptionally lucky to have Frans as our Game Ranger on our 4 day stay - its clear he is passionate about all animals and has a vast amount of knowledge about them all and that he really loves his drives - we were super lucky to be able to see all the Big 5 within our first two drives thanks to him - he can spot animals miles away and is so talented at tracking animal prints and smells - really eye opening. He is also great fun and a super guy to have in a group - thank you Frans for everything. What makes Eagles Crag the best is the staff - all the staff are amazing including Portia, Siya and their team but we were blessed to have Unaithi as our butler - she truly is a ray of sunshine who will go above and beyond for all her guests, her service is excellent and she will always remember your preferences!! She also fooled us and along with Frans helped organise a gorgeous lunch out in the reserve. We were so lucky to be able to do this. Big shout out to all the other staff too, including Beryl, Kingston and Vanessa and the housekeeping team for everything they do. We cannot wait to return, hopefully sometime soon.

As a luxury experience and game reserve, this absolutely delivers. Yes, it’s very expensive, but it also was an incredible experience. The staff were so joyful in their service, the food was amazing (3 course meals for every meal), my girlfriend’s food allergies were treated with extreme care, everything was always clean, an extremely beautiful property. Not to mention the actual game drives. Our guide Brad was phenomenal and knowledgeable, tailoring the experience to our personal interests. We saw so many cool animals and got to experience the environment to its fullest. If I could rate my experience 100 more times they’d all be 5 stars. Thank you Shamwari for an incredible experience!

As someone who’s done the SCE and has known a lot of the people at Shamwari it is amazing and beautiful. The issue is not everyone has 10,000 for 2 nights at long Lee manor. SCE is incredible but their lodges are out of reality. Greedy Greens I guess. This beautiful place should be accessible for everyone not just the rich. Why would someone realistically pay that much when it’s 6 months rent in US or Canada even if I had the money I would NOT spend it on 2 nights at some hotel. Clearly trying to get back their investment on the new lodges. It’s not about the animals anymore which is sad. Luxury yes beautiful animals and land Yes. Affordable for normal people travelling to South Africa Definitely NOT! Prices are outrageous. Like I said Greedy greens

In every sense of a 5 star experience this absolutely ticked every box and then went on to exceeded expectations. I booked this as a surprise trip for my partner to celebrate our engagement. We had been recommend Shamwari by a number of friends who had gone. We stayed at the beautiful Bayethe lodge for 6 nights. - The food was absolutely incredible, thanks to chef Max and his team! Amazing selection and delicious. - The room was beautiful and the central lodge was such a lovely place to come relax between drives or in the evenings. - The team at Bayethe were an absolute highlight. To a person everyone was so kind, happy, welcoming and accommodating. Special shout out to Thandy, Rina, Mauveen, Buil, Jean, Sino, Nina, Im so sorry i've forgotten a few other names but know they were all incredible. Also to note, i really appreciate how all staff members, and other rangers, really do go out of their way to introduce themselves to you and have a chat. It really makes you feel at home. - Our ranger for the week was Patrick. Words don't quite provide justice for how lucky me and my partner felt to have him as our ranger and guide for the week. His energy, knowledge, care and skill just really made our holiday so incredibly special. I would highly recommend requesting him as your ranger if you choose to go to Bayethe. He will elevate your experience. - Finally the safari itself, again it went above and beyond my expectations. It's such a beautiful reserve with diverse landscapes and incredible animals. We saw everything we wanted (apart from leopard, which is very lucky to see). I was so excited to go out each day and immerse myself in the experience. From our game drives, to walking safari, water/boat safari to sunset drinks and nibbles in the bush or the hot water bottles in the mornings and the hot towels and drinks on our return. Every detail is thought about and executed exceptionally. If i could give it more then 5 stars I would. Highly recommend and can guarantee you'll have a truly once in a lifetime experience.

I’ve stayed at Shamwari, and everything was exceptional. It’s an ultra-luxurious game reserve offering a truly exclusive experience, including private game drives, outstanding dining, and highly professional staff. The villa which I stayed is top-notch. offering stunning views of the valley. We had ranger named Kalaus who's is the best, knowledgeable and skilled at ensuring an unforgettable game drive and excellent wildlife sightings.

Adrenalin Addo Adventure Park offers an exhilarating experience in the Sundays River valley, featuring the highest, longest, and fastest double zip line in South Africa. Visitors can also enjoy a giant swing, canoe rides, and stunning views of the surrounding orchards. The park's friendly and safety-conscious staff ensure a memorable adventure for all ages. Additionally, there are options for different adrenaline levels and a snack cafe overlooking the river.
Exhilarating, prices are affordable and there is a great variety of activities with knowledgeable staff. Depending on which side you come from, the 4x4 route is shorter and the route for low clearance vehicle is 1h10 l min long(double of the 4x4 route. The entire drive to the location will take you through the citrus vein of the Eastern Cape. Accommodation on site is available. I bought tickets on line and also did my check in online. This is money we'll spent. To zip line you can either hike up or take a 4 wheeler at a cost

Our family visited Adrenalin Addo Adventure Park on the 27th of September after making a booking on Friday the 26th. We were 4 people incl. 2 visitors from NZ. The road to Addo was horrible and very unsafe with many reckless drivers. It would have been great if the Adventure Park would have informed us about the roadworks and suggested a alternative road to get to Adrenalin Addo safely. We arrived after 11 and we found a quite Park with no one on site to guide us were to go. The gardener who was busy in the front ran to us and instructed us where to go. We walked down the road got to the container shop not knowing how to proceed. We ordered some coffee (Not recommended for coffee lovers) from the friendly ladies who then told us where to go. We were a little bit disappointed as one would expect someone like the owner to meet your guests in the front, greet you and assist you with everything. When we got to the front deck area the guys on site started chatting and explaining everything to us. The staff was very friendly and polite but one would expect staff with neat clean uniforms not shirts with huge holes and damaged shoes etc. The indemnity form QR code was given to us but we struggled a bit as not everyone's smart phone could scan the QR code and I needed to download a QR app in order to fill in the form. No printed forms was available on site. We climbed on the scale to check everyone's weight for safety reasons and then of to the harness room. The guys were very good and friendly in kitting us out with safety harnesses etc. They knew what they were doing. One of the biggest let downs for all of us was when the guys handed us the helmets. The helmets was dirty / filthy! some looked damaged with no inside padding and very unhygienic. We complained but as we already paid the day before we had no choice. No sanitizer on site to clean the helmets, no hairnets for clients or ladies. The dirty / damaged helmet's was a big let down for us. The next let down after paying over R2600 for the adventure was when the staff kitted us out and then gave us an option to walk up the steep hill where the ride begins at the top or pay them another R75 per head for a 4x4 ride to the top. This is a sure way to kill any tips which one would have given the staff. Surely these harnesses could have been stored at the top of the hill? To kit a client out with heavy harnesses and bags etc. and then tell them to pay more or else walk up the hill, with no complimentary water bottles is just a big NO and let down. Our second ride our NZ guests payed for the optional 4x4 trip to the top. One would expect a 4x4 bakkie or Land Rover like vehicle but after walking up a steed hill maybe 300 meters to the 4x4 area we were greeted by a friendly staff member with a mini 4x4 quad bike like vehicle. Not what we expected for R75 per head. Anyway climbed on top and the guys starts the mini JD quad like truck and speeds to a steep hill where he screams "HOLD ON " at every hill. The path was steep, many loose rocks. This little 4x4 quad like truck felt very unsafe racing up the hills to the top and nobody was instructed to put their helmets on for safety. The guy driving was friendly, funny but this was very very unsafe. Adrenalin Addo Adventure Park was a great experience. It is something I will recommend to others but the owner needs to relook at their way of operation. SAFETY, THE EQUIPMENT, UNIFORMS AND HYGENE was a huge let down for us. I know the website states no self braais, but for us coming for Port Elizabeth this would have been great. We had everything but had to go and braai inside Addo Game Park May I also suggest a few 4mp IP cameras at the top recording your experience as well as another camera halfway and at the bottom recording your visitors ride / experience down. A TV screen at the bottom to view what's going on at the top as well as displaying the ride down will be a great advantage. This video or pictures can be saved to a memory card and sold to the visitors for a extra income. Definitely a experience I will do again.

Wowweeeeeee!!! Katie, Ryan and their team gave us an absolutely incredible experience. Everyone was so hospitable. They even had a plan to get across even though the river was flooded! We got paddled across which was epic! Our first time doing the superman and goodness me was it a freeing experience. 100000% recommend making the trip by even if it is out of the way!!

Really, it's great. Everything is excellent, including the brand-new, brand-fresh equipment that feels really safe and enjoyable as well as the genuinely welcoming owners and staff who make you feel completely at home. In addition to the Gator ride, the hike up to the zipline is an amazing adventure in and of itself. To be honest, it's all really fantastic.

A great outing on any day! We felt safe and well managed to do it all, and so we did all their offers. Small note: as numbers rise again, and we worry about exposures, consider empowering staff to confidently tell people to observe COVID protocols, please? Keep them, us, and your business, safe. Great experience! Will be back. Also, Go Pro video rental would be great! Stay safe!

Exceptional service and staff! The 4x4 ride was beautiful with an explanation of the citrus and tobacco farming. My 8 year old daughter was terrified but the staff managed to make her feel safe and at ease, then she wanted to zip line again! An exhilarating experience with superb staff. PS: the ice-cream is a must have! We will be back :)

What a fantastic experience. We did it as a family of 4. 2 adults, 13yo & 9yo. The kids absolutely loved it. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable & very safety conscious. The hike to the launch platform was a little tough for us, who are not very fit but was a breeze for the kids with awesome views of the orchards surrounding Addo. Also got a glimpse of the final resting place of Sir Percy Fitzpatrick! Zipline itself was all adrenaline. What a rush!
