Parque Central Benito Juárez is the vibrant heart of Comitan, where charm and community come together. This picturesque square features well-paved paths lined with benches, inviting visitors to relax under the shade of lush trees. At its center stands a striking bandstand, surrounded by cultural landmarks like the Palacio Municipal and Santo Domingo Church. The park buzzes with life as food vendors offer delicious local treats and numerous restaurants provide diverse dining options.
The main square exceeded my expectations with its pristine cleanliness and well-maintained surroundings. It's beautifully decorated, creating a vibrant and inviting atmosphere. There are numerous bars and restaurants lining the square, offering a variety of dining options and drinking options. There is , of course, a big church that stands at the center, adding to the square's charm and appeal. Overall, it's a delightful place to visit and spend time. Some days there a band playing and everyone dances around

Beautiful park. Center of Comitan small businesses! Museums, library, theater for exhibition, post office, and many other public activities. Several parking lots, I think about 15pesos an hour. Street parking fills up fast within 3 blocks of the park and also the parking lots on busy days. Many restaurants on the West side and a few others on the other sides surrounding the park. Many restaurants on side streets too.
Jim Q — Google review
We loved this place!! It was just 2 block from our Hotel and surrounded by restaurants and little shops. It was nice just sitting outside drinking a beer and doing some people watching. While the kids just burn some energy running around. It felt very safe even very late in the evening. It is just a charming little town.

This is quite an impressive park! The manicured trees, so clean and.... so many benches. It's such a lively park with so many people, always music playing, food vendors and works of art. It's especially nice on Sunday evenings, with live music and dancing!

Parque de San Sebastián

Park
Parque de San Sebastián is a charming and iconic park located in Comitan. Situated near the Church of Saint Sebastian, it offers a peaceful atmosphere for leisurely strolls, pet walks, and casual conversations. The park's colonial architecture and cleanliness make it a delightful spot to visit. Visitors can also explore local markets offering regional products and clothing. With its wheelchair ramp and two Pokémon gyms, the park provides accessibility and entertainment for all visitors.
I love the makeshift plant brooms, Cleansing this parks aura infront of the Church of Saint Sebastian. The geometry, the architecture, the layout. Imagining the Goddess running down tunnels of light, her dress unfurling blueprints that the angels sit & sketch. Feeling elevated off her second hand breath. It's wild how not knowing the language indepth, helps me relax. I can sit back & hear the sounds of words crack. Adding to the traffic & the wind, the symphony begins ~ Sitting deep within, all alone. We're all one so i hum, as the melody begun, sun shines & clouds strum, i feel the chords on my tongue. The cities buzzing, "where you from?" & i don't know what to say, it seems we grew up in different places but were broken the same. Cause the emotional spectrum isn't a location but state, & wild how the minds trajectory is just an opening vase. We're all flowers in this Garden of Eden. Moon showers seem to power my being. Reflective hours in my tower of feelings, Yet the sea-saw effect brings balance & healing. A blessed solstice, from where my soul sits. Cause opposites attract but they learn as the poles shift.
Christopher B — Google review
I walk Leroy and Tutsi (my chihuahua dogs there). It's a nice, clean and small park. And there are two Pokémon's gyms there. It has wheelchair ramp.

Nestled in the enchanting Pueblo Mágico, the Centro Cultural Rosario Castellanos stands as a tribute to the renowned poet and novelist who spent her childhood here. Restaurant
If you find yourself in Comitan, make sure to visit Ta Bonitío, a delightful restaurant that showcases the rich flavors of local Comiteco cuisine. Nestled next to the central park, this gem offers a warm ambiance and attentive service that makes dining here a memorable experience. During my visit on Christmas Eve, I was treated to creative dishes like a vegetarian burger and four cheese fettuccine with portobello mushrooms—both were simply divine!
Very nice dinner recently. I tried the exotic tacos and they were quite nice. Friendly smiling service and we felt very welcome. Thank you we will return. We have since also enjoyed breakfast here too which was also very good.
Mary-anne — Google review
I ate dinner and breakfast here. Both meals were amazing! Some of the best food I’ve eaten in Mexico and for the food, I think the prices are super fair! For both meals, they brought out a complementary appetizer and end treat. The service was amazing! Highly recommend visiting.
Jessica S — Google review
My sister and I where thinking where to go to have a coffee and I remembered I've seen this place when walking around. We went there and we had a good time because the place is nice and the staff, including the Chef - who I think is the owner - are very friendly. The Chef gave us a complementary drink a raspberry liquor and a tasting of "salpicón de lengua de pebre con ceniza". The liquor was tasty, the tongue was good but for me it was a strange flavor. We had a salad that was delicious and then the waiter showed us delicious desserts and we couldn't resist the temptation so we had some that were very good too. We had a good time!

Wow, what an amazing gem in comitan with delicious food and great ambiance! We had wonderful service from Angie, she was so patient with our limited Spanish and helpful in recommendations. We had the vegetarian burger and four cheese fettuccine with portobello mushrooms. They were very accommodating and provided us with complimentary bites of an appetizer. Also, the rojos limonada was a very tasty drink. The flavors and combinations of the food were perfect, well prepared and presented with fresh ingredients. We look forward to going back during our stay, for fabulous food and service it is highly recommended!

Archaeological site
Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Zona Arqueológica de Tenam Puente is an outdoor complex of overgrown limestone Mayan pyramid ruins, offering breathtaking views of the Comitán plains. The site showcases a remarkable array of Mayan architecture, including pyramids, ball courts, and multiroomed structures. It provides visitors with a diverse and informative experience. The site is conveniently laid out for an easy walking tour and tends to be sparsely populated.
Very beautiful zona archeologica ! You can explore and climb the pyramids, we had the place to ourselves and it was really quiet. Food is not allowed, only water. The colectivo to San Fransisco Sarabia costs 30 pesos and drops you right at the entrance, and for the way back, the staff will call it to come and pick you up. Really worth it !
Julie J — Google review
Forget Teotihuacan or Monte Alban, this is my new favourite archaeological site. Absolutely mind blowing to wander around here all by yourself. Gives you a true feeling of exploration and adventure.
Phil — Google review
I really enjoyed my visit to Tenam Puente. Seeing the Mayan architecture was awesome. The site has a diversity in its remaining structures giving you a great example of a number of different things from pyramids, to ball courts, to a multiroomed structure. The site is laid out for any easy walking tour and was virtually empty. We had the place to ourselves for half our time and one other couple came through as we were heading out. Easy walk to get too, fair amount of steps in the structures themselves (tall and narrow steps). Parking lot and visitor center have bathrooms and a picnic area.
Jeremy M — Google review
Beautiful site. Visited on Sunday, it was open despite maps says it's closed. There were only a few other visitors, which was great. Entry fee is 70 pesos per person. Parking on site (free)
Vins B — Google review
I feel lucky to have been in the area just a few days after Tenam Puente re-opened after a long covid-related closure! This was a great site to wander around - it’s much larger than it first appears and there’s several kinds of structures: ball courts, too! That the trees and vines have been left in place creates a dreamy, shaded atmosphere. They didn’t allow us to bring in bags, just a water bottle; otherwise one of the big lawns surrounding the ruins would have been perfect for a picnic.
Melanie M — Google review
A very nice archeological site that was completely empty during my visit. I was the only guest for hours, nobody else was there and the site was unstaffed - so I didn't (and couldn't) pay any entrance fee. The site is bigger than I initially expected and you can move quite freely. There are some nice panoramic views, too (since it's on a hilltop). I went there by taxi from Comitan (150 pesos one way, directly to the entrance). On the way back, I walked about 30min to the village and took a collectivo from there (I think it was 25 pesos). I enjoyed the calm atmosphere. There are also some information panels (both Spanish and English) as well as a plan of the area. If you are in Comitan and have some free time, I highly recommend this place for a laid-back, peaceful visit.
Patrick — Google review
This place is not free as others described! The entrance fee is 45 pesos. Which is very economical. We had a great time here with our children. Very few people come here and it makes for a great time to explore. Our family loved it! Bring water as there wasn’t any available on-sight. We started here early as it can get warm. Then follow up with El Chiflon for swimming! We went from here to Chinkultic, another fun pyramid complex near the entrance to Lagos de Montebello.
Clay R — Google review
One of the hidden wonders of chiapaz. A gem, so much to see and explore. This is a wonderful site to explore and learn about the Maya. This site is important as a training center for Maya body ball with 3 known ball courts. If you are a fan of Epiphytes tenam is heaven. GO enjoy.

Chucumaltik is an astonishing tourist attraction with a challenging road leading to it. Ensuring your vehicle's shocks and tires are in good condition is essential, as the terrain can be rough. It is advisable to allocate extra time for the journey. Once there, visitors can enjoy a captivating swimming experience in one of the most breathtaking spots they will ever encounter. The entry fee is 30 pesos, but after 5pm it may be free.
Incredible! The road to get in is very bumpy, though, so make sure your shocks and tires are in good shape and add extra time for covering the rough terrain. Add extra time to stay for awhile!! Pack a picnic, bring a mask, because it’s one of the most stunning swimming spots I’ve ever experienced.
Alia K — Google review
Amazing place! You must come with swimming glasses to explore the lake. You can also jump from a 8 meter cliff.
Lior P — Google review
It was great! Nice lake to swim in. 30 pesos entry fee. Free after 5pm I think. There's a small trail around the lake. Some people came in there blasting music around 5pm so we left.
Marie H — Google review
There was nobody when we tried to enter on a Monday at around 4 pm and the gate next to the main road was locked. We asked the locals and they told us to jump the fence. After that there is a well-indicated 15 min walk to the cenote which is worth seeing. Areas to sit and grill are available and nice mixes of blues to swim, snorkel or dive around will catch your eyes, as it brags to touch bottom at 70 m!!
Victor D — Google review
Beautiful cenote. If you go via this entrance they will ask you 100 peso per person (was 30 per person). There are more entrances and the prices are lower at the other entrances. It's a 7min ride with a lot of rocks, but it's more than worth it. Bring some food and drinks and leave the place better than you've found it. If you have a mask/goggles for underwater it's a must too!
MUSEUM H — Google review
Beautiful and clean! There are small picnic tables around the cenote. 30 pesos per person, definitely worth a stop to swim!
Melanie M — Google review
It's a lagoon totally unexpected in the middle of the mountains. The water is very clear and clean but it's kind of deep (aprox 60 m deep). If you are gonna take children I would recommend bringing tubes or something that would allow you to float. The landscape It's really very beautiful and there is a small common area to leave your stuff or eat.

Claudio B — Google review
Gave this place a try as I was in the area and it had numerous good reviews. Mistake. What can you say about a place that can't even prepare a simple meal of grilled chicken breast, steamed veggies, rice and potatoes? Chicken, tough, overcooked, veggies undercooked, microwaved rice and fried potatoes smothered in salt. Yikes! (Maybe extra salty to cover up recycled/old food. Old trick of the trade.) Maybe they saw a gringo and smirked: "He'll eat anything." or "What can he do about it?". Then again, the cook's incompetence could extend to Mexican and/or Guatemalan customers as well. Still gave the waiter a tip as he was getting barked at by the owner to "Fetch me a Coke Zero, boy! Now!!!" Even though the owner was no more than 15 feet away from the cooler. Simple truth: If an owner doesn't respect his staff, he's not going to respect his customers or the food he serves them either. If you're a gringo, and even if you're not, give this place a hard pass.

OMG! There was a stray dog and instead of shooing it away they gave it a bowl of water and some tortillas. There aren't enough stars to reward the integrity that the staff displayed. The food is also delicious

Really good depending on what you get. The pechuga de pollo was absolutely fantastic with amazing mashed potatoes. Frappes were really yummy! But the pizza we got was a frozen pizza and it was quite expensive for what we got.
Donat L — Google review
One of the saddest looking burritos I’ve ever seen. Very plain and small; absolutely not worth it. The margaritas were weak, but taking into account that it was a 2 for 1 deal (50 pesos in total). So with a extra shot of tequila (costing 80 pesos…) they were ok. Added an extra star for the nice service though.
Anton P — Google review
An amazing restaurant! Great food including deserts, a big variety of options and all very tasty. The service was great and welcoming (even offered us water from their initiative). We came back twice to tase more dishes, and will come back again. Recommend!
Topaz Z — Google review
I was going to give it 3 stars, but the truth is I won't be going back. People tend to overrate most places. I ordered tacos al cabo (fish tacos). There were only two, but pretty awful. Fish, avocado and pico de gallo in a flour tortilla-- pretty simple and fresh sounding, eh? That's not what I got. They were a mess and poor flavor-- didn't finish them. My fault for ordering something I wanted that is not actually local. The staff raved about their hot chocolate so I ordered one to go to have with some churros. It was nothing special at all (fortunately, I live in San Cris where there are plentiful options of good chocolate). The pellizcadas were generous (5 in an order), but didn't taste fresh...how to ruin something so simple?-- not to care. Avoid most places along the plaza and eat in the market or park for similar quality at a fraction of the cost! Or better yet, go about 4 blocks from the center for neighborhood places that make simple foods, but actual care.

If you're on the hunt for an authentic Italian dining experience, look no further than Pizzeria "Due Torri." This charming eatery offers a delightful array of delicious dishes that will transport your taste buds straight to Italy. Guests rave about the warm welcome from the kitchen, often starting with complimentary bruschettas that set the tone for a fantastic meal. The service here is truly exceptional; you might feel like royalty as you’re attended to by staff who exhibit impeccable manners and efficiency.
I highly recommend this restaurant. The food was perfect and we even got a free greeting from the kitchen in the form of delicious bruschettas. But the main reason I want to recommend this place is the service. Our waiter could work in a 5 star restaurant. He could even work for the queen of England and would fit right in - perfect manners and speedy delivery of food.

Excellent restaurant! Authentic Italian cuisine. Great staff. Beautiful ambiance. Highly recommended
Mark ( — Google review
This restaurant is cute and cozy... but way overpriced for what you get and it was maybe the worst Italian food I have ever eaten. I ordered the Tortellini because the waitor said the pasta was made by hand. It needed another 5-10 minutes boiling because the pasta was not soft. My food was room temperature and not even warm. Imagine store bought Alfredo sauce over not cooked cheese and spinach tortellini. Very disappointed.

Nestled in the heart of nature, UNINAJAB is a hidden gem that offers an idyllic escape from the hustle and bustle. This charming town boasts stunning natural waters cascading down into a series of artificial pools, perfect for cooling off on a warm day. For just 25 pesos per person, visitors can enjoy these refreshing spots while taking in breathtaking views of Agostura Lake and the surrounding mountain range.
We had this place totally to ourselves even when the nearby cenote was relatively busy! We couldn’t believe that such a great spot was empty. A waterfall runs down and artificial pools have been built to catch the water at several levels. The water is clean and cold, making for a lovely spot to cool off! 25 pesos per person! There’s a big parking lot.

Uninajab is a town with natural waters flowing down. Once you enter the town you'll be asked for 50 pesos and have the freedom to swim in any of the pools or visit and swim in the Koila lake. From the parking of the main area of pools you'll be able to see the Agostura lake in the very far and the mountain range behind on a clear day.

Went specially to Comitan for this place. In fact my trip (from Europe) to Mexico was partially inspired by the idea of visiting Dr. Belisario's house. Now, on this beautiful sunday, I found the house heavily padlocked. No sign, nothing. All internet sites go on giving the usual opening hours. At the tourist office, they were not sure about the date of reopening. From me no stars for this pr performance. Still: Comitan is a lovely place that deserves better than this.

Just a nice place to stay close to the old center. Very nice basic, clean rooms. The staff was very nice and helpful. Is right next to a very busy road, which if you are a light sleeper ( like me) it may keep you up. My kids slept like babies. This place is very convenient to the old square and within walking distance of a lot restaurants, shops, pharmacies. I enjoy waking to the plaza late at night . It felt very safe.

Zona Arqueológica Chinkultic is a captivating archaeological site with carvings, hieroglyphics, and sacred pyramids that date back to the peak of the Mayan empire. It was a minor Maya power during the late Classic period and may have survived into post-Classic times. The ruins are scattered over a wide area with only a few cleared mounds, allowing visitors to let their imagination fill in the rest.
unique smaller ruins with a cenote that is a little off the beaten path! we had the place to ourselves and enjoyed hearing stories from our guide. 1.5 hours with a guide, but could definitely be shorter if we went on your own. many stairs to get to the final temple but the first two areas (ball court and main plaza) are fairly accessible and flat.
Chelsea C — Google review
Really nice site that is tiny but fun to visit. Take the time to go all the way up, to get stunning views and a really nice vista of the cenote. There’s not much information to be found, but with your imagination you can go a long way :) also: donation based entree!
