Mercado de Dulces y Artesanías Ámbar is a vibrant indoor shopping destination located near the Iglesia de San Francisco. Here, visitors can find an array of handcrafted items, including clothing and jewelry, as well as delicious baked treats and local sweets.
Excellent place to find crafts from Chiapas... I recommend the second floor you will find better prices and more Amber and crafts than the first floor the restroom are... Well let me put it like this you don't want to go in there ;)... There is no parking lot so you will need to find a spot in the street....
Robert R — Google review
We stopped here as part of the Free Walking Tour. The guide introduced us to one of the amber artisans who gave an informative talk. Then she bought some local sweets for us to try.
Emily S — Google review
This mercado is 2 floors and a great spot to buy your souvenirs They have so many handcrafted items and prices are a lot better than those stores in the center. There is always a room for negotiation
Denis K — Google review
Colorful and full of goodies. A quieter corner of San Cristóbal at stonethrow distance from the central plaza.
Alx M — Google review
Very interesting place, lots of crafts, jewelry and delicious food. Very clean and well organized. Highly recommended.
Jesus G — Google review
The inside part is pretty lame, overpriced textiles that you should really make the effort to buy from the source - which is the markets in the indigenous villages surrounding the city. Zinacantan, Chamula, etc... But the outdoor restaurant area has a bunch of remarkably cheap and authentic local dishes - pick an establishment that looks busy, and enjoy.
Sam R — Google review
Beautiful artesian market with authentic sweets and food.

Nice store but only if your looking for a souvenir amber is fragile as I found out and is not a great daily thing to wear as for the candy's well the store was high priced

Cathedral
Catholic church
Located in the heart of San Cristobal de las Casas, Catedral de San Cristóbal de las Casas is a stunning architectural gem that dates back to 1528. The cathedral's baroque facade and gilded altar are just some of the features that make it a must-see attraction in this cultural capital.
An imaginable experience with beautiful mixto culture. Where Spaniard vibes mets Mexicsn culture. An amazing city that most definitely fell in love with
Juanita — Google review
Historically significant cathedral that has some great artwork depicting various saints, but otherwise very plain. Outside the church are numerous venders giving the location the feel of a festival during the weekends. While there is a road up to the cathedral, I found the lengthy switchback stairs in the front a great challenge and exhilarating exercise.
Michael F — Google review
The main church on the Dan Cristobal. About 300 years old. Lots of shops and coffee places, shopping area around it. I did the walking tour from here.
Deepak J — Google review
Incredible piece of history. I had the bad fortune to visit this place after the devastating earthquake of 2017 and it was closed but the facade remains a powerful sight.

Specialty Museums
The Museo del Ámbar is a captivating educational museum located in the ex-convent of La Merced, showcasing a stunning collection of amber jewelry, art, and fossils. With over 350 classified pieces on display, visitors can explore the origins of amber, its formation, extraction process, commercialization, and historical as well as contemporary uses. The exhibition is complemented by informative texts, certificates, photographs, and videos providing a comprehensive understanding of this precious stone.
5 stars due to the best tour guide we could have asked for. This precious baby’s name is Ámbar. When we were on the first floor she showed up and then walked to the stairs to tell us to go up. And when she showed us the displays and waited for us to finish looking. Price for museum is about 30 pesos per person. Worth it due to the cat in my opinion. She lets you pet her.
Ana C — Google review
A little disappointed, I read it was supposed to be a 3 hour visit but in reality it has very few pieces. The place is beautiful and the few pieces and specimens there are also beautiful and special however I would have liked more information on the trees and production, shaping and polishing. There is a video playing in loop with this information but I would have liked more hands on information.
PAULINA T — Google review
This museum is a brand new museum, the building was a convent and an army station. About the ambar collection is significant and almost the information about how important ambar rock is important in Chiapas state. The visit is worth it, and entrance money is visible because the building is going through reconstruction.
María G — Google review
I can't spend hours and hours in museums, especially when I have my teenage children with me, so this one was perfect: only $50 pesos to enter, and it has one large room with plenty of amber on display (see photos in other reviews) and enough information to tell the story of amber, from it's composition and formation, to mining and uses. It's definitely not overwhelming, but informative enough to know a bit more about amber. The videos were not working when we went through. The shop was very extensive as well, and didn't seem expensive. They also provide a certificate of authenticity with each piece we purchased. I love that they are restoring ex convents and housing museums in them. This ex-convent is being restored by a civil association and depends on donations and the entry fees of the amber museum to continue their efforts. But it's also cool to see the one finished side and the unfinished side opposite.
Vanessa A — Google review
Beautiful collection of amber in a gorgeous convent currently under renovation, located in a charming hilly neighborhood.

A Must-Visit in San Cristobal. This museum is in a historical building convent. It keeps the most Amazing unique Amber collection with pride and care. If you are curious to see (or purchase) this million-years old rock this is a great place. We have visit the workshop and discussed with the artists that worked on the pieces and its director and curator. It was a great and authentic experience. We highly recommend you visit this place.
Eddy F — Google review
The Museum is very nice For a reasonable ~50 MEX pesos you can have a look at tons of beautiful pieces of amber, including fossils and intricate sculptures, there is a english brochure that they give you ( if you ask) and that helps for non-spanish speakers.
Eli D — Google review
Nice, compact museum dedicated to Amber. Most of the focus is Chiapas. They also discuss the global history and use of amber. The building is historic which used to be a convent then later a prison. Fee is inexpensive, less than 2 USD. Allow at least an hour or 1.5 hours. Nice shop which includes certificate of authenticity. Staff is attentive, knowledgeable and helpful. Learn here before buying on the street or in the market. Spend a few minutes watching the videos at the end of the exhibit.

Plaza de la Paz is the main square in San Cristobal de Las Casas, anchored by the cathedral. During the day, it's a great spot for relaxation and people-watching, while weekends see hundreds of artisans selling their crafts. The town center offers live music, indigenous dances, and other performances. Visitors can also take pictures with lookalikes of popular characters like Batman. The area boasts colonial architecture and open-air markets where locals and indigenous groups sell handmade items.
Beautiful place. Nice cool weather all year round. Great restaurants, shops and hotels all within walking distance. Very colonial architecture and streets. Open air markets to buy hand made items from the locals and various indigenous groups. I have many wonderful memories from this area.

Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán

Catholic church
Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán is a historical complex in San Cristobal, featuring a church, former monastery, and regional history museum. The church's pink stone facade showcases Baroque Solomonic style with intricate carvings of saints' figures, angels, and grooved columns. Visitors can explore the open-air crafts market surrounding the church and shop at Sna Jolobil for traditional weavings by local women artisans.
One of those "must" stops in San Cris. The outside is stunning and marvelous. The inside takes your breath away because it is all covered on gold. Next to it is the traditional hand crafts made from indigenous people of the region, so all of you see is worth the price and it's value in culture.
María G — Google review
Nice church from the outside. Not always open and the way towards the church... mind your wallet, you will spent money on the souvenir market 🤣🤣 we went back twice and everytime my wallet was emptier than when I went

Keewi H — Google review
Beautiful church but hard to appreciate at the moment. Closed off for renovations and you can't go inside (just like the cathedral). You can't even appreciate what's left to see from the outside, since the surrounding areas normally belonging to the church are now fully "squatted" by the "artisanal market".
Jogchem G — Google review
This Church was restored and is one of the most beautiful on Chiapas. The monastery with its church was built in the 16th century, with the monastery secularized later. The church retains its original function. The building with two courtyards was restored between 1999 and 2002 to become a community and cultural center, with the Museo de la Laca, founded in 1952, moved inside to take up much of the upper floor. This museum contains about 450 pieces from various parts of Mexico and Asia, mostly made in the 20th century. The complex also contains halls with permanent and temporary exhibits along with an auditorium and various types of workshops. The former monastery complex was built along with the Santo Domingo church on a small hill overlooking the Grijalva River, in the second half of the 16th century, attributed to Pedro de Barrientos and Juan Alonso. The church portion is one of the best preserved from the 16th century in Chiapas. The former monastery is behind the large church with two main courtyards. It was secularized during the Reform War with the church retaining its original function. It underwent its most recent restoration between 1999 and 2002 in order to make it a community and cultural center for the city of Chiapa de Corzo, with the Museo de la Laca moving into it. It, along with other facilities and operations, is managed by the Consejo Estatal para la Cultura y la Artes of Chiapas (CONECULTA). The entire building is officially called the Casa Escuela de Tradiciones but it is most commonly called the Museo de la Laca, although this museum only takes up most of the upper floor.

The Mercado Municipal José Castillo Tielemans is a bustling indoor market in San Cristobal de las Casas, offering a vibrant atmosphere and a wide variety of goods. Unlike the touristy areas of the city, this market provides an authentic experience where locals come to shop for produce, meat, baked goods, and handicrafts. It's an excellent place to immerse yourself in the local culinary scene and discover the spices and ingredients used in traditional cuisine.
Colorful and vibrant. Mostly traditionally attired vendors speaking some form of Mayan dialect. Of course, you can buy your vegetables and fruits and meats.

Wonderful Market in San Cristobal de las Casas We visited this market every day during our stay to buy fresh fruit, meat, and vegetables. The variety was impressive, and the quality was excellent. It’s a vibrant and lively place that truly captures the local flavor. Perfect for anyone looking to enjoy fresh, authentic ingredients while exploring the area!

Nice big market, just goes on and on! Great fresh veges, herbs and spices. Lots of food stalls for tacos and other local dishes.
J D — Google review
One of my favorite markets in the world. Sadly, please eat here with caution. The nearby river is an open sewer & many reports of illness. Do shop for fruits, vegetables, handmade tortillas, candies, dried chiles, spices, coffee, chocolate. You can find beautiful candles, raw wool, little toys & sweaters. Be sure to walk around the periphery of the market to see all the day vendors. Early morning is best, but this market is bustling all day.

Market
Mercado de la Caridad y Santo Domingo is a popular market in San Cristobal, located around the Santo Domingo church. The church itself is known for its distinctive mortar facade and was built in the mid-16th century. The market offers a wide range of items including souvenirs, clothes, and local handicraft goods. Visitors can find artisans from Mexico and Guatemala showcasing their work, with some creating pieces on-site.
Great experience . We walked around for more than an hour , looking at work from artisans from Mexico and Guatemala . Some make things right there, especially people with Jewelry. You can see them making beautiful pieces right there and also can ask for any adjustments or even get a piece made for a very reasonable price. I got a silver earring made for me right there !

Good variety of souvenirs....although if you're looking for the authentic local handmade stuff then that's becoming rare, it's a mix of machine produced copies of the original and stuff from Guatemala...nevertheless some good buys and the designs are great.

I needed two times to visit it. Crafts for every wallet, clean , lovely people, food vibes and buena onda. Go4it
Fabio W — Google review
We went there a Sunday and half of the shops were closed, hence we might have missed the good shops. However the half of the shops (open that day) is not worth the visit. They all sell the sames cheap souvenirs. This is very disappointing and does not show the craftsmanship of the local artisans.

Nestled in the heart of San Cristobal de las Casas, Restaurante el Fogón de Jovel has been a culinary gem for over 30 years, born from the dreams of a passionate couple. This charming eatery invites visitors to experience authentic regional cuisine while preserving traditional recipes and indigenous flavors. The ambiance is warm and inviting, adorned with colorful papel picado decorations and staffed by waiters dressed in traditional attire.
Tried their mole plate it was delicious! The corn tortillas were also very delicious with their cheese. I also tried their traditional drink pozol it was okay

Sunday night in May ,our small group had dinner .As this was included in the tour itinerary had the full works of soup+ main plate ,which for me is too much!!!. Good home made soft drinks. The staff made the tacos on traditional stone in the restaurant Nicely decorated for tourists. Staff dressed traditionally. Live marimba. Sadly the tunes they played were western pop tunes(without the words) not local., alien in fact. Quite ruined the atmosphere ..
Musicians M — Google review
Light dinner tonight at Fogón de Jovel. I tried Sopa de Pan and hubby had Enchilada de queso (vegetarian). The enchilada is covered in the house mole which is quite delicious. My soup is on a sweeter side. It’s an interesting thing to try but not sure I would order them again. They got some interesting selections, suppose to be very regional SanCristobalense style. When we dined there are live music playing which is quite pleasant.

Really nice place to try good Mexican local food. I recommend trying the Mole dish they are really good at it! The two soups we ordered were… interesting. They were both really sweet. The salad was great, their vegetables are fresh and tasty. The service is really good!

It’s a great location, with great atmosphere, if you go at lunch or dinner time there’s live traditions music playing. The food is good but on the expensive side compared to other places. However you can find very traditional dishes and vegetarian ones, as well, which is always a plus. You can tell that it’s a spot made for tourists but because of that, I’m sure that quality and service is always good.

Delicious bar with great staff and tasting room! The ambience was amazing and the marimba players were great. Guillermo was a great host and treated us well, be sure to pick up a bottle of Posh!

Some authentic dishes, live marimba music in the evenings, hand made corn tortillas, went here on a Monday night, service was a bit slow, waiting a long time for our drinks and food. Cash only.

I felt it was just like a tourist trap. The service was great and they did nice decorations but the food was pretty average; not flavorful. I got the pollo pipián and my friend got the grilled meat plate. He said he just liked the cheese that came with it. The sopa del pan was ok. The instruments for the live music seemed really out of tune so it was more of a nuisance to hear it and have to pay a tip for it.

Best chocolate I have ever tasted. Totally recommend it. You can add an extra flavor for 7 pesos and customize your beverage.

Order two different hot chocolate 80% and 100% but we received a very weird drinks which were mostly hot milk with some undisolved cacao particles that didn’t taste like 80% of chocolate

The beverages are great, but the staff is laughing out loud, making a lot of noise, playing mexican "banda" music. They are doing the cleaning asking you to move to sweep and mop. The behavior of the staff makes the otherwise nice place, to look like a mexican canteen
Luis Q — Google review
The coffee was horrible, the milk obviously tasted expired but the baristas wouldn’t refund us or make another one. We also got a smoothie and it tasted like they put dirty orange peels in it. The drinks were just awful. The service was also really slow. Wouldn’t recommend

Ordered a frappe with cappuccino flavour and heard her repeat cappuccino so I corrected her three times whilst ordering and explained to her that I wanted the cold drink, thinking that i was really clear. When they came out with the order I still got a hot normal cappuccino so took it back and to get my order right. The woman who had taken my order refused to listen or hear me out nor fix my order. Went back shocked of the horrible service and the rude response. I understand that things can get wrong and I would have been happy to pay the difference for the right drink but this option was never given. Won’t come back here again

Such a nice reataurant. The person is soo sweet and the food is gluten free and vegan, yet sooooo delicious!!! The atmosphere is perfect if you like a "home like" restaurant, it feels kinda like a "Paladar" in Cuba. Bibimbap is savory and portion is filling. Ramen is very good.

Little cute place with very tasty food. Only have a few places for sitting down. Everything is vegan and most of the stuff is very healthy. Very good prices. The bibimbap and the curry with rice was our favourites. Or actually, the vegan cookies (coconut & chocolate) was our favourites. Best cookies in town! Most of the food is already cooked and they heat it up when you order. For me they use the microwave a bit to much. Would be 5* if they would heat up the food more with the stove. With that said Flora cooks really tasty food and it's worth a visit when in town.

The selection of dishes is amazing: sushi, lasagne, pizza, ramen, bao, curry, seitan steak, Apple pie, cashew ice-cream, cookies, cheesecake, kombucha and more...! My partner and I were pretty fed up with restaurant food, after traveling for a few months, and this home-cooked fare was absolutely what we were craving. The only slightly unusual thing about the place is that, although it looks like a little independent restaurant, it's actually part of the fastest-growing vegan restaurant chain in the world!! It's all run by a - and I need to be careful not to say 'cult' here, because it isn't - Vietnamese cyber sect, so there's a TV in the restaurant only showing a channel called Supreme Master TV. It makes for pretty interesting, sometimes entertaining, viewing.

Came for lunch and had the Loving Hut set. It was extremely delicious. The sushi rolls were excellent and the grilled broccoli was so flavourful. Loved the vegan meat sautéed with onions. Highly recommend.

Nestled in the heart of San Cristobal de Las Casas, Hotel Mansión del Valle is a charming retreat that captures the essence of a quaint hacienda. This delightful lodging features comfortable rooms and an inviting atmosphere, making it an ideal choice for travelers seeking both relaxation and convenience.
The hotel is one of the most beautiful places of the city. Amazing architecture, with painted details all over the building. The room is beautiful and quiet. The breakfast is very tasty with many options, and great service. The staff is very friendly and useful. The location is perfect, very close to the centre and safe neighbourhood. We are absolutely very pleased with this hotel!

No elevator, no airconditioning, no privacy, and the room had a full trash bin when I got in... The entire hotel is a bit "tired" and needs renovations...
Daniel S — Google review
Great location, parking included and amazing customer service by everyone. The hotel has a nice local, authentic touch and all areas were really clean. The room was a bit tight but nicely clean with a nice balcony. We will definitely stay here again if we visit San Cristobal again!

We loved the proximity to San Cris. Enjoyed this hotel alot. The room we had was on the smaller side, but we chose the room:) They have added on over the years to make it a great hotel. Would absolutely recommend staying her in San Cris. Excellent pricing and about 3 blocks from the city center.

I overall liked my stay in this hotel, particularly the location (central but in a quieter street) and the balcony of our room, facing the church and with sun most of the day. Also everything was very cleaned and the room seemed pretty new. What I didn't like is the bed, pretty hard and uncomfortable - at least for me- and the staff of the reception that was not particularly helpful when we asked questions or support (at some point we had to do an international call to block our credit card and they only said to us, with zero empathy, to just go to oxxio).
Elena B — Google review
Great location. Friendly staff, and quite a beautiful place. The internet was spotty at best during my 48 hour stay. Bathrooms are a bit under par in my opinion. Especially because they have open windows facing the hallway, so there's not much privacy there.

I really liked the hotel. Instant check-in, suitcases were delivered to the room very quickly. The staff is professional and attentive. Everything in the room is clean and tidy. There is hot water, but very low water pressure. Wi-Fi in each room, but you need to choose your access point with the maximum signal level. For breakfast I liked the juice of fresh oranges and scrambled eggs with bacon.

Hello everyone, I am a frequent traveler, my husband and I are always trying new places. This hotel is so frocking cute,Govea the impresión of a small Hacienda. Rooms are great and our bathroom was huge; we ate at the restaurant as well, tacos de arrachera are amazing and the camarones panzones are so yummy. Staff is super friendly and they have a garage to park your car. Quite handy. Let me tell you stay here is super close to the center and is so beautiful. Place is super clean and last but not least it has a great roof top. Come and stay you will not regret it.

Day 2

Northwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northwest side side of town. Start the day off with Templo de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Sarajevo Café Jardin. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Nestled in the charming neighborhood of Guadalupe, the Templo de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe is a stunning yellow-and-white church that beckons visitors with its inviting atmosphere and breathtaking views. To reach this picturesque site, you only need to ascend 79 steps, making it a more manageable trek compared to other churches in the area. Each evening, locals and tourists alike gather here to witness the sun setting behind majestic mountains—a truly magical experience.
Come at Sunset and you get an amazing view of the city. With the sun ☀️ on the mountains ⛰. Just make sure you have time to climb all the steps

The experience was truly enjoyable and pleasantly surprising, as it turned out to be a workout that was not overly strenuous or difficult. It struck a perfect balance between being engaging and manageable, allowing for a satisfying session without feeling overly exhausted or overwhelmed. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the activities were well-paced, making it an overall delightful experience that I would definitely consider repeating in the future.

A lot of steps and it’s suppose to give a whole view to the town however the trees cover most of it. Nonetheless nice walk and view.

It's a fun place to say you've seen. The steps are daunting but if you have limited mobility you can take a cab to the top and walk down. I've been told if you climb the steps with sincerity in your heart you can ask for a miracle. Inside is the Saint wrapped in ribbons for each miracle requested.

Casa Na Bolom is a unique and remarkable destination in San Cristobal, housed within a 16th-century colonial mansion that once belonged to renowned explorers Frans Blom and Gertrude Duby Blom. The property, which also functions as a museum, restaurant, and hotel, is located in the peaceful Barrio del Cerrillo neighborhood.
We loved exploring this renovated hacienda of Danish Swedish explorers that did incredible work with the indigenous people of the region. This couple was so inspiring and you could literally feel the passion for their life's work in their desk and chair. A must visit museum when in the area!
Katie B — Google review
I visited the museum, not the hotel. Although the museum is quite small, I spent about 30 minutes there. The exhibitions are well-curated, with information available also in English, and the building itself is beautiful. It's a nice spot if you have some spare time, but not a must-see in my opinion. It's conveniently within walking distance, and you won't need much time to explore it. Restrooms are available. A side note: it would be helpful if they could separate the museum and hotel on Google Maps to make reviews for each more distinct.
Patrick — Google review
I went to visit the museum, and it is a truly amazing experience. The place itself is wonderful. Every room with information and pictures is delightful and, of course, to learn about all expeditions that Gertrude and Frans made to the Lacandon Maya Jungle is incredible.

Very interesting hotel with a deep history of indigenous people! It's a bit far from the city center, but it's worth staying there and supporting indigenous business! Price is very reasonable! Don't forget to check out their museum, back garden and chapel

Wow! You have to check out his museum and garden. The fact that they also have a small cafe and restaurant in the middle that is so quiet is just a bonus.

Lovely little museum! The story of the owners is truly inspiring. Recommend to anyone interested in the indigenous culture and history of Chiapas 🙏
Salomea E — Google review
One of my favorite little museums and gardens in San Cristobal. Wonderful place to meander and learn the history of this inspiring Swiss woman (and a bit on her Danish husband) and of many of the indigenous people they befriended and advocated on behalf of from the 1950s onwards. The gardens are a lovely place to sit in or to wander and be inspired. There is a small hotel and restaurant and a few other options here, all of which are on the grounds and in the original house where this couple and their adopted Mexican daughter lived and worked for decades.

The Museo Mesoamericano del Jade, located in San Cristobal de Las Casas, Mexico, is a museum that showcases the significance of jade in Mesoamerican history and culture. The museum is housed within La Casa del Jade, a cultural center known for its expertise in jade.
Amazing museum, definitely worth a visit even if you don't have much time in San Cristobal. The pieces are beautiful, the presentation is on point and the accompanying information is quite interesting
Antoine P — Google review
Very interesting geological and cultural / anthropological displays of the history of jade in Mesoamerica. The English option is a simple booklet with translations of the signs. However, in the extremely dark exhibit halls, it's nearly impossible to read and to match up with the maps and artifacts. If you're lucky, you'll see a craftsman working but there is no interaction or explanation and, as much of the machinery is very loud and their have headphones and we don't, it doesn't encourage you to linger and watch. There was a sign advertising free Mexican liguor tastings but nothing was offered. Many options for purchase. Worth a short visit for good overview.
Zoe D — Google review
The museum was quite an interesting place to visit! It had a wide array of fascinating exhibits that captured my attention. However, I found it a bit disappointing that the guide provided all the information at the very beginning of the tour and then simply left us to explore on our own. This approach made it challenging to fully appreciate the details and context of each exhibit as we moved through the museum. Despite this, there were still many cool and intriguing items to see, which made the visit worthwhile.
Wattle B — Google review
The museum has a lot of potential and there's still some space to improve, that's why the 4 stars!
Karnishe — Google review
Enjoyed our visit to this museum where you will not only learn about jade but also about how various cultures used and appreciated the gem. Quite interesting. The museum store sells real jade so don't expect street and market prices. Low entrance fee. Allow one to 1.5 hours.
Carlos R — Google review
I don't know why this place got low reviews. It was small and yes, the pieces are reproductions, but it was highly informative and a fascinting blend of mesoamerican and geological history. They even had an English booklet to translate all the signs. There's a replication of Pakal's funeral tomb at the back which was also beautiful both for history buffs and the casual visitor alike. The gift shop was very expensive but treated like an extension of the museum (especially with the live, built-workshop) it was lovely to look at. Plus you get a discount at the Kakao museum with your ticket from here which makes for a nice afternoon combined.

Lots of pre-Columbian examples of jade statues, masks, figurines. Worth the 30 pesos. Much more than the pics posted.

Kakaw Museo del Cacao y Chocolateria Cultural is a tribute to the rich history of cacao production and chocolate in Chiapas, Mexico. Visitors can explore the process of making chocolate from growing the crop to producing the final product. The museum also features its own chocolate factory where visitors can indulge in various forms of chocolate. Additionally, there's a small cafe on-site for those looking for a quick bite.
Came here twice on my trip. First time for a museum tour. The museum is small but has really cool history and info about cacao, the history that cacao has with Mayan culture and what it has become. Second time I came for chocolate workshop, which I highly recommend. You get to make your own chocolate disc to take home and understand why high quality chocolate is hard to find and the danger of cacao beans (facing extinction risk). Roxanna, my tour guide and also workshop manager, is amazing! She is the only one besides owner speaks English. We also get to taste a lot of different kind of chocolate there.

I had a wonderful experience at the Chocolate Museum! Our guide, Roxane, explained everything in English and did an excellent job. She was thorough, engaging, and very friendly. She went into depth, answered all of our questions with patience, and even added humor that made the tour fun and memorable. At the end, we were treated to delicious tastings of chocolate and pox, which were absolutely amazing. Highly recommended!

A fantastic experience taking part in the Bean to Bar chocolate making workshop with Pati. It was a really relaxing, fun workshop that I would recommend to all.

Such a fun experience! We did the Bean to Bar experience and had such a fun time. Roxana was so friendly and engaging. We’ve done chocolate tours and tasting in other places but we’ve never made our own. 100% recommend for anyone visiting San Cristobal de las Casas!

A must to visit , much better than any cacao museum visited in Mexico , find Ms. Mayari to explain everything in the most professional way. Do not forget to grab some chocolates after the cacao tasting chocolate . 100% worth it as a destination to San Cristobal . It’s a marvelous place, and it’s unfortunate, my two gender nonconforming friends and I had an unpleasant experience here. Our waiter was very inattentive as well as the staff. It took a few reminders (three) and ~54 minutes until we received our glasses of water and coffee. Because of the inconvenience, one of us went to ask the manager for a courtesy plate, and he agreed to bring it over. When we asked the waiter whether we would be receiving it soon, he said that the plate was denied by the same person who said we would be receiving it. When asked for the check- it took about 10-15 minutes to be brought over to our table (very little traffic at this time). From previous rates noted here, I’m sure that this might have been an act of passive aggressive discrimination. I hope they put an effort to welcome and receive everyone here equally and nicely.

Iced cappuccino was very milky, even though we asked to make it extra strong. But it was ok with a extra double shot of espresso (which wasn’t charged!). Nevertheless, the jugo desintoxicante (verde) was one of the best we’ve ever had. Also nicely located with a garden, and a friendly waiter. Go here for your daily fruits!

Café Ka San Cristóbal is a hidden treasure for coffee lovers visiting the charming town of San Cristóbal. This quaint coffee shop, run by an enthusiastic owner, offers a delightful experience that goes beyond just sipping on a cup of joe. The owner is eager to share his extensive knowledge about the coffee-making process and what he believes makes the perfect brew.
San Cristobal is full of good cafes but many of them double as food establishments. If you’re like me and you just want your coffee and coffee, this place is it. Only small spot to sit but most people take away. I had my coffee sitting there by myself and it was wonderful. Not to mention, their chemex coffee was very good. Recommended.

My friend and I did a coffee tasting today and we had so much fun. Alejandro took his time to explain everything about his coffee beans, his family business and the city. We even got to make our own coffee and had a cocktail as well. Would definitely recommend to go there!!
Elsa K — Google review
I came back as I realized I didn’t leave reviews on this amazing cafe I visited in January. This cafe is an absolute gem in San Cristobal. The coffee from their own family owned farm was absolutely delicious. Balanced flavors with chocolaty and earthy taste with a hint of fruitiness. Super fresh (harvested only a couple of weeks ago and roasted a day before), organically grown, and never over roasted. I wish I got to know this cafe before I had to try other cafes (I’ve been looking for cafes with oat milk and they finally had it too!) so I could have come back every day. Alejandro was so passionate about coffee. I had such a lovely conversation with him about coffee, Mexico, and Korea, making me feel like I got a local friend. He is one of few locals who actually grew up and live there, trying to keep the local culture while an influx of external money are dominating this lovely town. I guarantee this cafe will make your memory in San Cristobal special. 매우 추천합니다, 꼭 여기서 커피 마셔요! + Bonus: Their own distilled coffee liquor and chocolate are also delicious. The coffee beans are so reasonably priced, compared to these middle distributors with above American prices for tourists. I could fit only 1kg/2.2lbs in my luggage, which I have been enjoying for weeks now. I saw several locals come here to buy beans, which is a good sign!

Perched on a hill near the Guadalupe Church, La Maldita Restaurant offers breathtaking views of San Cristobal de las Casas. While it's advisable to make reservations for a table with a view, some find the prices to be on the higher side. The restaurant is renowned for its unbeatable sunset views and rooftop dining experience. Although it may be challenging to locate, once found, guests can indulge in stunning vistas of the city's thoroughfare and surrounding mountains.
Hidden away next to Iglesia De Guadalupe, this is a great place for lunch and drinks away from Centro. You can eat on either an uncovered or covered patio, both with excellent views of the city. Attentive service and tasty desserts as well. We will return just for cocktails and the view.

Amazing View | Quaint Place This is the perfect spot to enjoy a great view of the colorful San Cristobal City. The beverages are good, snacks also but they take a while to serve so I highly recommend you to ask for appetizers or your main dishes as soon you arrive.

Beautiful views of sunset in the city. They take reservations for tables by the view. I don’t think this place has an elevator so it’s not accessible as there’s stairs. The prices are very expensive compared to other casual places in San Cristobal. It’s worth it for the view. I don’t recommend getting food as it wasn’t that good. The drinks were moderately priced and tasted great.

This is only a rating for the bar, cafe, restaurant as we only had a coffee and a cake here. Beautiful terrace with a wonderful view over San Christobal. A must visit when you visit the Guadeloupe Church. Friendly staff, fast internet.

Very expensive (especially the food, probably overpriced), but this can also be expected if you see the location and view: the terrace has a beautiful city skyline. Because of the prices only went here for a drink (margarita), which was just fine. Would recommend for just a drink and to enjoy the sunset.

Day 3

Off the beaten path
For day 3, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Frontera Artisan Food and Coffee. Not quite as popular as El Arcotete, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 7 hours.

Market
If you're looking to immerse yourself in the vibrant local culture of San Cristobal de las Casas, a visit to Mercado Viejo is an absolute must. This bustling market, also known as Jose Castillo Tielemans market, offers a delightful array of fresh produce, meats, and spices that will inspire any home cook. From colorful fruits and vegetables to unique ingredients like dried chiles and handmade tortillas, you'll find everything you need for your culinary adventures.
Reminds me of markets in Oaxaca. We exit the taxi and immediately witness the live game exchange actions on the street, can’t get more real than that lol. I been told the indigenous community here don’t like tourist taking photos of them so I refrain my photo action, until I see this gorgeous bean stall with a man in really cool looking poncho. We got some beans from him and with his permission I took a short video. I love checking out local markets to discover new ingredients that I might never know. This time I saw some new spinach (maybe another varietal) and some new herbs that’s new to me. Also love the way they display the produce and seafood. I will highly recommend coming here for a cultural and local experience.

This is an authentical market where they sell a lot of nice stuff! I was kinda sceptical about it, but all the sellers are lovely and kind. The prices of all goods are also very reasonable and one shouldn’t bargain about the prices (we were told this by guides), because everything is hand crafted and not as commercial as other markets in the country.
Jan G — Google review
Mercado viejo has everything you need and is open every day of the week. I come here to buy my groceries & miscellaneous items I need from the friendly local vendors

Frontera Artisan Food and Coffee is a charming café located in San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. Situated just a short walk from the main area, this cozy spot offers a mix of comfortable sofas and chairs, along with books and games for guests to enjoy. The café features a central courtyard where visitors can relax and explore other artisan ventures.
Words cannot describe the quality of the coffee, the food, the service and the beauty of this amazing spot. Grab a table outside, order some of the best coffee and breakfast, then just sit back and be happy that you are in such a tranquil place.

A great spot for well-prepared speciality coffee and tasty food (including massive slices of not-too-sweet carrot cake). The cold brew was exactly what was needed on a hot day, and both the patio and indoor areas are great spaces for hanging out (we went twice during our stay). Highly recommend!
Will A — Google review
Great place with super fresh food and good prices. For breakfast there is an unbeatable deal to get fruit, juice, coffee, and eggs in a combo. We ate here one day for lunch as well and what stands out is the freshness of ingredients. If I had one criticism it is that bread always seems to dry. It is good whole grain, but very dry. But this def one of if not the top breakfast place in San Cristobal.
Nicholas M — Google review
It’s such a peaceful and lovely experience to sit outside in the courtyard here. The coffee is absolutely scrumptious—definitely one of the highlights! Just a heads up, you might catch some live music while you’re enjoying your drink, which adds to the vibrant atmosphere. The wifi isn’t the most reliable, especially since it was busy when I was there, but that didn’t really bother me. There’s also a cute art gallery and an outdoor shop in the courtyard that are worth checking out. Overall, it’s a great spot to relax, sip on some great coffee, and soak in the creativity around you!

Great Breakfast restaurant with garden patio seating!! Delicious coffee and muffin and had the most amazing pancakes in a long time!

We enjoyed Chiapas pour-over coffee and brunch with yummy local cheese and banana pancakes at this local favorite spot. We got our lavender and rosemary fix at the garden there sitting in the courtyard of a renovated 400-year-old hacienda.

Such a great find! This is my favorite cafe in San Cristobal. Love the carrot cake, nice frosting and the cake itself isn’t dry at all! The cafe is very artsy and surrounded by flowers and plants. Having brunch here is like sitting in a garden. We had musician playing violins and the service was very fast. My breakfast omelet was very filling and tasty.

La Viña de Bacco is a charming wine bar and tapas restaurant located in the heart of San Cristobal. The cozy atmosphere, with dining on old wine barrels, creates a unique experience for visitors. Guests can enjoy a wide selection of Mexican, Chilean, Argentinian, Italian, and Spanish wines at affordable prices. Live music adds to the vibrant ambiance as locals and tourists gather around small outdoor tables to sip on beer and wine.
Such a lively and fun spot for a group! We were recommended this tapas bar at our hostel. The opportunity to try a wide variety of wines at such a stellar price point went down a treat! The tapa with the broccolini on a slice of baguette was definitely the crowd favourite
Kriti G — Google review
I was here on a Monday evening. the atmosphere was great. there was a street artist playing song in front of the establishment. the place was busy and is a good place to people watch. you get free tapas with each drink. wine starts at 30 pesos. I tried a Mexican vine and it was decent. the service was prompt.
Ram V — Google review
Unique and colourful bar! With quick service and great staff! Very lively in the later evening. Everyone that is sat is given a few tiny eats like popcorn and papas on bread. The alcohol is all reasonably priced so cheers! Only real negative thing to say is the guac tasted frozen/chemically was really hard to eat.
Spencer F — Google review

Very cool vibe, good wine at reasonable prices, and complementary tapas! We may have gone every afternoon for happy hour during a recent trip! 🍷
Sherrie B — Google review
Nice place to relax and have a drink in the afternoon. Every drink comes with a free tapas. Right by the street musician and it's a pedestrian street, so no cars and no fumes. Great atmosphere.
Diane B — Google review
I rated the food a 4 but it is good. I rarely give 5 stars for food that is not gourmet level. Just so you know that there is nothing wrong with the food. However, the big standout for us were the great service. Diana was very nice and attentive and always there when we needed her. The vibe of this place was excellent! It has communal tables which is a great way to meet other people, which appeared to us to be mostly locals. We speak Spanish but one of our table mates spoke very clear English to us, so I think non-Spanish speakers would have no problem here. It is a cozy place, filled with interesting, cool people, great music (classic rock when we were there) and just an all around place to have a good time. It was a packed so I assume it is a very popular place. We will definitely return.

Oh La La! Real patisserie Guadalupe is a charming French-style bakery and coffee house located near the Zocalo on the pedestrian street of Guadalupe in San Cristobal de las Casas. It's a recommended spot for artisanal tea, coffee, and sweet treats, offering delicious chai lattes and almond croissants.
I don't understand why anyone would not rate this place 5 stars, really. The desserts are easily one of the best anywhere, I had to try a couple! Must try the guava passion fruit cheese cake, hits senses you have not experienced before. The coffee is also top notch, the seating and atmosphere and the street it's on is amazing and very entertaining. A MUST for those who love great pastries and coffee.
Joe T — Google review
Would thoroughly recommend. I had really delicious coffee and two fresh, crispy and very tasty crossaints. The service was good and price acceptable for the quality. The offering in this French inspired cafe is well above the norm for cafes in Mexico. San Cristóbal is a beautiful town that you have to visit and don't forget to have a delicious cake and coffee from Oh Lala
Nery L — Google review
Such tasty pastries! I tried the apple tart (around $50), tarta de arroz con leche (same) and a coffee macaroon ($20) and they were all full of flavor. To drink i got one of their chai teas which was also very good. Of course it's a bit expensive but it's worth to pamper yourself after a long day. Also they give you a discount if you bring your own cup or recipient in order to lower one use plastic. Bravo!!
Paulina F — Google review
Lovely patisserie with coffees, loose leaf teas and desserts. The service was not good but I have been to 3 different restaurants and they all had the same bad service so is fair to assume that's the norm in this town.
Yaneth V — Google review
It's great if you want a white sugar coma. Cakes seem very industrial. The eclair was okay. Go to 'dulcetariano' instead 👍🏼 It just doesn't have the feeling of being any sort of healthy deserts but I guess I knew that before coming in. My girlfriend really wanted to try it even tho we knew another vegan healthy place where to have cakes. Overall I wouldn't come back here mostly because I care about not dying too early in my life. I've got nothing against the workers here they seem to be nice and are only doing their job.
Jordi A — Google review
It's my second time in San Cristobal. This location of Oh La La has to be my go to coffee house. I've been here at least 7 or 8 times. Pastries are delicious; service is fast. I enjoy sitting on the sidewalk, doing some people watching. Will keep coming back.
Ed F — Google review
In general I’m quite picky about my pastries and coffee. These were nothing to rave about, but overall nice.

The classic pastries like in France, quality is close to the originals in Paris. Definitely try the Opera, this one is very close to the best one I've ever had in Paris.

TierrAdentro Restaurante is a cultural and culinary gem that recently expanded from its original location in San Cristobal de las Casas to Juarez. With over 13 years of experience in Chiapas, the restaurant has become a hub for artists and activists seeking a space for free expression. The new extension offers an extensive menu featuring 30 different types of pizzas, catering to diverse tastes.
We had the Milanesa Pollo, Huevos Rancheros, French toast, and an omelet. All were delicious. It was fun to sit outside and people watch, just be prepared for locals to constantly come up to your table and try to sell you stuff.
Emily S — Google review
I came here for just a random quick bite to eat with some friends. The bread at the table with the 4 sauces was incredible. I really enjoyed mixing the garlic pesto butter (I think) with the green salsa verde. I got lentil soup for my entree and it was stellar. Could have used a little bit more salt but easily fixed. Good service, 2 cups of wine for 50 pesos. Good place

Cool alternative ambient to grab a snack or drink. There are a few stores inside and one that sells Zapatista literature if you're interested in learning about the party. The nachos we ordered a nice snack.

Very pleasant for breakfast. On the main pedestrian Street, suitable for people watching. Very good omelette, good price. Well, that was yesterday. Today was a very different story. Service was slow and impersonal, breakfast very ordinary. Worst thing was not the fault of the restaurant, but a musician with an amplifier was posted across the street, playing very loudly and slightly out of tune.

The food caught me by surprise. It's an amazing restaurant with a great goal; making dishes from the state with the produce of local farmers. Usually with a goal like this I'm hesitant about the quality of the food but this restaurant exceeded every expectation I had. The main dish ai had, the Mole de San Cristobal, is amazing with all different textures, tastes with a bit of spice. The tamales and the desert were great as well. Everything was well explained by the waiters. 11/10. I wish this restaurant would be back home so I could eat there more often.

Cool place in the center of town. Coffee was mediocre. pastries ok, nothing special. good prices for the coffee and dishes. The waiter missed half of our order, so we didn't get it at all. bottom line is there are better options in San Cristobal for coffee, but if you're already here, it's an ok café for a decent price

The service here is fine, everyone is amiable. The location is great too, just off a main touristic area. Expecting to find good coffee in Chiapas is harder than I thought. Coffee was uninspired and typical for tourists, and the flan tasted like the refrigerator.

El Arcotete is a nature park located just 4km outside of town, offering a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking trails, cliff rappelling, caves to explore, campsites and zip lines. The area features La Casa de Mazariegos and the City Hall constructed in stone. Visitors can enjoy the tranquility interrupted only by the sound of a stream flowing through El Arcotete's naturally formed arch.
Had s beautiful time at the Grutas el Arcotete, I didn’t go on a tour I took a colectivo is only $15 pesos just have to ask which one goes there I like to go on my own because I take as long as I need and nog rushed like sometimes by tour guide.
Lamberto V — Google review
The caves are quite cool but overall an underwhelming experience if you are used to nature. Should you have some time to kill, it is worth a visit but don’t break your back trying to get here. The individuals working there are not friendly, greeted us with their hand out, and tried to keep my partner’s change. Entrance fees are 10 for the park and 15 for the caves. There is a 5 peso charge for bathrooms. The zip lining did not look very exciting. I saw no horses. The water is very polluted. There were a handful of rainbow salamander creatures which were quite beautiful. They did have snacks and drinks for sale as well as a restaurant on site. On departure, they wouldn’t let us take a marked taxi and wanted us to get into one of their own unmarked vehicles. I didn’t get the best vibes overall. We ended up taking a collectivo back, which you catch just up the road.
Heather S — Google review
It’s pretty cool, but not really a destination. The cave is kind of interesting so if you just wanna get outside of town and do a little nature walk, I’d say it’s OK. One tip would be to take the collective vote bus as a taxi this sort of a rip off it basically will drop you off right in front of the entrance and save you a bunch of money
Danny G — Google review
So magical, I can't believe that I almost didn't come here! Definitely take the time to also explore the fantastical gruta and to appreciate the forest canopy from above at the mirador! Just 15 pesos straight from the downtown area to the entrance of the park every 8 minutes until 6 in the evening. When I was there it was 10 to visit the arc and 15 to go into the gruta. Well worth it!
Candace C — Google review
magic place, nice walks, fresh air, local people take so nice care🙏

The level of enjoyment you get from this place will depend on your expectations. If you are expecting a well organized, entertaining activities and lots to do, you might be disappointed. It doesn't have a lot of information, it is run by local indigenous people in a very laid back, simple way, and although there are different things to do, it is not overly entertaining in itself. The entry is $10 pesos p/person. There are grounds you can walk or bike through. Fun place to take photos. The natural arc rock is free. The Zipline is $150 per person, and it includes two ziplines. Was safe enough. To enter the grotto is $15 pesos per person. This is kind of different and fun. But crowd control is not practiced: it can get a bit cramped in some of the small places. Also hard access for overweight or really tall people. There were also option of boat rides, rappelling, camping and tightrope. But we didn't participate in those. My teenage children moatly enjoyed because of the novelty of the grotto, riding their bikes and the ziplines, and they had their drone and camera to play around taking cool photos. It would've been nice to take a picnic, or to rent a palapa and have a BBQ on the grill, but we didn't plan accordingly. Overall, it is a lovely spot for a day out in nature. It was so clean and fresh, and plenty of families were out and about enjoying the sunshine. It has a restaurant and a comedor selling snacks, but we didn't try those out either. I gave it 5 start because it is really is a nice place to visit, I loved the grotto, and the excuse to hang out with my family. But I also understand that it is not a highly modernized and efficient tourist attraction.
Vanessa A — Google review
Beautiful and unique spot. There's an entry fee of 10 pesos per person for the park and then a further 15 pesos if you want to go into the caves. Definitely worth the extra 15, atleast once. Stunning and strikes a nice balance in eco tourism. Well looked after, but still allowing us to go in and enjoy the place.

Came here to see SanCris sunset so sat at the patio. Great view and drinks are reasonable. Extensive selection of tea. We checked out the vintage looking theatre, so cool, if there’s English subtitle I would go watch a documentary about Zapatista for sure.

Kinoki is a truly stunning place to see sunset. They have a wonderful tea selection and great service. Their food is okay, not bad my any means but certainly not going to be the best food in Mexico. Specialty Museums
Nestled in the heart of San Cristobal, the Centro de Textiles del Mundo Maya is a vibrant museum that celebrates the rich tapestry of traditional textiles from Mexico and Central America. This cultural gem boasts an impressive collection of over 500 hand-woven pieces, with a special focus on Chiapas huipiles and tunics. Visitors can explore not only the stunning displays but also delve deeper by opening drawers filled with additional striking examples of textile craftsmanship.
An absolutely amazing museum! I have almost no interest in textiles and I was blown away. The first floor is original examples of textiles (which are amazing) and all sorts of artifacts. The second floor is modern examples of clothing from different areas in Chiapas. Sprinkle in beautiful artwork throughout the museum. And the building is stunning. The market outside is beautiful too. All this is free too! Do Not Miss This Experience!

An Outstanding Textile Museum – A Must-Visit for History and Culture Enthusiasts! I recently had the pleasure of visiting this incredible textile museum, and I can honestly say it exceeded my expectations. Best of all, entry was completely free, making it accessible to everyone. The museum is packed with a diverse range of exhibits, showcasing the rich history of textiles from various cultures and eras. Each display was thoughtfully curated, offering fascinating insights into traditional craftsmanship, techniques, and the cultural significance of textiles around the world. The building itself is a stunning piece of architecture, adding to the overall experience. Its elegant design and historic charm create a perfect setting for the exhibits. Unlike some other museums like the jade and amber museums, which often feel more like shops selling souvenirs, this museum is dedicated solely to education and preservation. It offers a genuine, immersive experience that truly highlights the artistry and cultural importance of textiles. Whether you're a history buff, an art lover, or simply looking for an enriching day out, this museum is definitely worth a visit. It’s a wonderful place to learn, appreciate craftsmanship, and enjoy a peaceful stroll through history. I highly recommend it to anyone passing through the area!

Incredible experience! One of the highlights of my trip to San Cristóbal! It’s fabulous to see the talent the pattern makers possess and it’s free! Don’t miss it 🤩🕺🏻
DAVID M — Google review
It's a nice, informative museum in an impressive building with good view of the city. I recently took a sewing course, so there was plenty of colour, stitch and pattern to study. I was there around 4pm on a Thursday, and I was the only one inside.

The "Centro de Textiles del Mundo Maya" was an amazing experience. We came on a Sunday so the admission fee was free (0$ only on Sundays). It was a beautiful collection of textiles and artifacts from Guatemala and Mexico, I spent hours looking through their amazing collection of fabrics and weavings and quilts.

If you want to learn about San Cristobal's history this is a good place to start. They have in exhibition ceramic sculptures of the first civilization in the state also they have artifacts from the Spanish Conquest, but the best and my favourite part is the Textile exhibition, it's not a big exhibition but it has a lot of different textiles from Chiapas and from Guatemala.
Phasis — Google review
The best textile museum I've been to in Mexico, absolutely top quality. Free to get in. Excellent ancient relics. Do not miss out.

FANTASTIC museum! One of the best museums dedicated to textiles I have ever been to (and I have been to many in many countries). Huge collection, wonderful service by the staff; you can see the reverence the Mayan textiles and its history are treated with. A favorite place in SanCris, and in México. GRACIAS for allowing us to witness the talent of such a marvelous culture.

Casa Lum Hotel + Restaurante is an eco-chic boutique hotel situated on the charming pedestrian street of Real de Guadalupe in San Cristobal. The hotel features a cozy bar/restaurant, an organic garden, and a terrace. The restaurant offers contemporary cuisine with a regional touch by Chef Victor Hugo Olivera, using ingredients from their own organic gardens to create seasonal dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
We visited the restaurant.. Beautiful presentation of the food. Banana empanadas were perfect. Green salad with fruits and goat cheese was delicious. Very friendly service and the place is so beautiful with a green patio and calm music. Thank you so much ❤️

If I could give 0 stars I would. Never have I seen a staff so committed to making the guests have a poor experience. They have rooms next to the kitchen and to the cleaning supply closet. At 6am they start banging outside of the room, upon kind request to stop, they never apologized and said they need to operate the (empty) restaurant. Then the gardeners at 7am started banging, again we went to ask if they could kindly do that later, they said yes only to have it one minute later redone. I went to reception to complain again, said we would need to change rooms if we were to stay, they said no problem. We tried to get a few hours of sleep, at 12.30 we went to reception to have the room changed and they said we could go to another hotel but we would be charged the entire stay as it was after checkout time. I showed them the messages where they confirmed the room switch, but nothing. The hotel has beautiful crafts textiles in the reception, we tried to book a tour of the indigenous towns with them specifically asking to see this. Again they confirmed it was possible to then book us in the most expensive tourist trap, exploitation at best of the indigenous people paid like actors to perform for tourists. We said we didn’t want the same company, which I came to learn had 3 stars on google, to take us to Palenque the day after. They said they would refund us for the tour, only to take it back the day after. There are a lot of beautiful hotels in San Cristobal, this is only a missed opportunity

We had an excellent meal here. When we first came in the TV was on and the music was loud and club-style : I asked them to turn off the TV and change the music and they did immediately. Everything was fresh and creative - The nopales appetiser, corn soup and broccoli were particularly good.

Had a great stay at Casa Lum! The hotel's central location near bars, restaurants, and attractions was convenient (10-12 min walk). Professional staff, impeccable service, and a focus on sustainability. The room was beautiful but a bit small and cold. Delicious complimentary breakfast. Would definitely stay here again.

This place was beautiful🤍 I loved everything about it. The food was amazing, the interior, the service!! You NEED to go to this restaurant if you are in San Cristobal. You definitely should try the Eggplant Parmesean, it was sooo good that I am for sure going back to have it once more before I leave Chiapas. For desserts, I loved the cheesecake and lemon pie 🍋, but if you were to choose one go with the Lemon! It tasted amazing!!!

Beautiful and friendly hotel in the most interesting and vibrant part of this charming town. The staff is beyond incredible - most helpful, friendly and accommodating. They satisfied every wish and whim. For example, as vegans, we were served a special breakfast, with the chef bringing local veggies from her own garden (try chayotes!) and making delicious dishes just for us. Beautiful rooms. What a great place! You have to stay there when in San Cristobal.

Without doubt the best hotel in San Cristobal de las Casas! Besides being extremely beautiful and unique, the location is absolutely not to compete with. It's walking distance to everything in the city. We even got the most delicious breakfast in bed in our beautiful room to very reasonable prices. The best thing about this hotel though was the service all of the staff were super helpful, kind and smiley. The only problem about this hotel is that you don't want to leave.. Ever🙈 We thank you so much for one of the best experiences, we will definitely be back🤩

Best Hotel Experience in ALL of Chiapas!!!! I brought my mother to Mexico to celebrate her 77th birthday (was her first time visiting Mexico) and the staff at Casa Lum went out of their way to make it special and an unforgettable experience. All of the staff from check in, housekeepers and restaurant were so genuine and helpful. The hotel is beautiful and relaxing, the rooms are spacious and well designed, and the food was amazing. My mother and I felt so welcomed by everyone and we felt very at home during our stay. I also arranged a massage for my mom via the hotel and they sent a wonderful gentleman named Pedro. My mother says it was the best message she’s ever had. Back in April I received devastating news that I have stage 4 cancer and honestly I wasn’t sure this trip was even going to be possible…thankfully I was able to take my mother on this trip and with the help from the amazing people at casa Lum….this really was a once in a lifetime trip. It will always mean so much to my mother and I and if I’m able to next year….we will return to San Cristobal and Casa Lum. I have so much gratitude for all of the staff at Casa Lum, for they truly are the best!

Mexican restaurant
Restaurant
El Secreto is a traditional restaurant in San Cristobal de las Casas that offers a fusion of flavors using fresh, organic, and traditional local ingredients. Their menu features original dishes that blend modernity with tradition, showcasing the essence of Mexican cuisine and especially Chiapas. From delicious tamales to chipilin soup, risotto, and salmon, the restaurant also incorporates a subtle Italian touch into their desserts while skillfully integrating the flavors of Chiapas and its chocolate.
My dad and I came across this place while walking down the street and decided to stop in for dinner because it looked inviting—and we’re so glad we did. From the moment we sat down, the experience was wonderful. The drinks were absolutely amazing—I had the best hot chocolate I’ve ever tasted, rich and perfectly made. They surprised us with several complimentary appetizers, which was such a nice touch. Everything they brought out was flavorful and well-prepared. For our main dish, we shared the duck tacos, and they were outstanding—tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. You could tell a lot of care went into the food. Even though we weren’t planning on getting dessert, we decided to try one. I don’t remember the exact name, but it reminded us of cornbread—it was warm, comforting, and just the right amount of sweet. A perfect ending to the meal. Our server, Rolando, was incredibly kind and attentive throughout the night. He made the whole experience even better with his thoughtful service and welcoming attitude. This dinner ended up being one of the most memorable meals of our trip. Highly recommend!

What an amazing place. You only pop in to have a look at the dinner menu but we decided on the spot to stay and have lunch. It was around 4PM but they were very happy to serve us. Loved the attentive service and all the food. Every single dish was delicious with a spotless presentation. For the quality of food that you get prices are more than convenient. The duck tacos were delicious. We've been missing vegetables so much since we started travelling around Mexico that the asparagus and garlic dish blew our minds hahahah

One of the most memorable meals I have had. I cannot imagine making a trip to Mexico and missing having eaten here. The service was attentive. professional, and enjoyable. Rolando and Pako were an amazing team. We ate around 8:30 and the restaurant was not busy. Even so, the place was immaculate, and decorated comfortably and open. We felt very welcomed. We did not have alcohol, instead opting for the hot chocolate and cold tascalate con leche. We shared the duck tacos and the roasted pig leg. Small tastes featuring local ingredients were first presented by the chef to prepare us for our meal. The duck tacos on our visit were perfect, juicy and well seasoned for our taste balancing the fat with the sour of the red cabbage. The salsa Verde was amazing and creamy and mild enough for a gringo palate with no problem. The square of cheese was functional to hold the Tacos and add to the presentation but was a treat to finish each taco with. The pork leg was something dreams are made of. Succulent and tender enough to cut or rather just separate with a fork. The skin a dark reddish brown color as crispy and beautiful as the best Peking duck. Even the most crisp portion was not burned and melted in your mouth. I think you would call this chicharon? Presentation and plating was of the highest standards. The accompaniments were beautifuly cooked and arranged. The beans cooked perfectly and enhanced the flavor s of the pork. The mole sauce on the side also balanced the fat of the pok. The roaster spicy hot green peoers were amazing although way too hot for my palate, although the sting was quickly dissipated by the fat from the pork. It was wonderful with the corn tortillas. For dessert we had the corn flan adding the rich textures and flavors of San Christibal and Chiapas and a wonderful ending to a memorable meal.

I don't want El Secreto to be so much of a secret that it goes out of business, so I'm happy to share this review. Located in a boutique hotel, this gem of a restaurant is excellent. Our server, Antonio (aided by Ronaldo) was friendly and attentive. He needed no convincing to take my extensive list of allergies to Chef Rosy rather than make assumptions about what food on the menu would be safe for me. As it turns out, many dishes were safe for me, and we had an outstanding meal. Rosy is a fantastic chef, who cooks with flair and originality, successfully combining local ingredients in novel ways to put a twist on Mexican cuisine. Highly recommend this restaurant.

We went for dinner and absolutely adored our experience. The dishes on the menu were very original and Antonio, our waiter, gave us good recommendations as to what to order. The “garden” was beautiful and the mood unpretentious, yet cozy and romantic. 100% recommend !

This place was one of the best! Service is outstanding! My friend and I are celiac and the chef came out to help us choose something from the menu that could be tailored to us. Really nice guy as well! The waiters are attentive and the food is delicious! "Tuna tartar" was delicious. Try the MEZCAL ice cream! They gave us the cutest little entrees and their house white wine is yum. They also gave us bread and yummy whipped creamy butter.

When you are travelling Mexico but want a break from foodtrucks and cheap tacos, go to El Secreto! Super food and super service! During the time we were there the waiter would bring us some tasters from the kitchen that they prepared. For example the local Huitlacoche on a taster bite, it was exquisite! The food was very good, but the best platter was the Duck Taquitos starter dish, you have to taste it if you visit San Cristobal!

Superb service. The food is great. My favorite is the grilled cheese asparagus. The black bean chorizo soup is a little thick so it didn’t do it for me. The chicken with potato carrot and guacamole was great, especially with the sweet sauce.

Pizza restaurant
Italian restaurant
Madonna Mia Pizzería is a cozy Italian restaurant with a family feel, offering delicious homemade food and friendly service. The owner, who is passionate about Italian cuisine, ensures a warm welcome for guests. The signature Madonna Mia pizza is highly recommended, and the carbonara is cooked to perfection. The wine tap adds an original touch to the dining experience. While the kitchen can be noisy at times, the overall experience of enjoying hot and tasty dishes makes it worth a visit.
I can confidently say Madonna Mia Pizzería serves the best pizza I’ve ever had! The base was perfectly crispy, and the toppings were incredibly fresh and flavorful. Unlike most other places where the pizza becomes soft and soggy as you eat, this one maintained its crispness from the first bite to the last. The service was just as impressive. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and their happy smiles made the experience even better. If you’re looking for top-notch pizza and excellent service, this is the place to go! Highly recommend!

I cannot say enough about what a great place and experience we had here. The place is very nice with literally one of the best pizzas I've ever had, even counting the many I've had in Italy. The staff is so warm and friendly and prepares the food with love. The bruschetta were so amazing and please don't forget to try the wine from the tap. Enjoy!!

This place was amazing. Not sure why people don’t give this five stars. Someone complained shoot the kitchen being noisy. If you can’t tans the heat…. Also someone said the pizza’s aren’t big. One pizza will fill a person believe me. My pizza was delish…

Who knows that this little eatery has better pasta then any fancy Italian places we have in Guadalajara? Our HomeExchange host, who was an Italian, claimed that this is the best pizza in town and highly recommend we give it a try. We ordered 3 things, primavera pizza, spaghetti al ragú and this nabo greens. Also two non alcoholic drinks. Pizza was really good, the dough is. Chewy and with nice texture, but the star is our pasta! Simple yet done right, the pasta is just al Dante and the ragú felt like it’s cooked in with pasta so the whole dish is very balanced, flavorful yet pretty light. The nabo green is quite interesting, I am not sure if it’s the daikon green that I had in mind, probably a different kind of turnips. The bill was 500 pesos with 15% tips, which is amazing, about 20-25% cheaper than GDL. Our first meal, although not traditional, hit the spot and we are all having food coma with happy tummy!

Pizza is light, thin, crispy and full of flavor. My espresso was delightful. The atmosphere and customer service is impeccable. Definitely will return before going back home.

A really friendly family feel restaurant. The owner who is Italian is super friendly and passionate. I loved the wine tap, super original (make sure to ask about the origin of the wine tap). The homemade pizza cooked in a pizza oven I got was delicious and my partner got the carbonara which was cook to perfection nice to have a proper made carbonara.
