Mineral del Monte in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Mineral del Monte, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Mineral del Monte, also known as Real del Monte, is a historic mining town in the mountains of Hidalgo, recognized as a Pueblo Mágico for its well-preserved colonial streets and cool, misty climate. The town is famous for its Cornish heritage and “pastes,” a local version of the Cornish pasty introduced by British miners in the 19th century. Visitors can tour former silver mines and museums, visit the English Cemetery, and enjoy panoramic views over the surrounding pine-covered hills. Nearby natural attractions and hiking areas make it a good base for exploring the region’s landscapes.
With favorites like El Campo Feliz, Restaurante La Blanca, and Museo del Paste, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Hotel Posada Restaurant Santa Elena and Restaurante La Blanca so you can get the best taste of Mineral del Monte while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

The Monumental Clock is a neoclassical tower built in the early 1900s to honor Mexico's independence. Situated at the heart of Pachuca, it stands as a centerpiece surrounded by traditional buildings and a lively square filled with street vendors, restaurants, and stores. Visitors can immerse themselves in the town's vibrant energy while admiring the classical architecture. On Sundays, one can witness local military police drills in front of the clock tower.
Lovely monumental clock! This clock dates back to the early 1900s, celebrating 100 years of Mexico's Independence. Interested viewers can take the tour up to the bell tower, getting a chance to see and hear the impressive bells. This clock mechanism itself were produced by E. Dent & Co. (The famous clock maker who was commissioned to make the clock for Big Ben in London). *Please note: climbing in tight spaces is required; if you are up for the challenge it is well worth it!

Symbolic monument of Pachuca. Good place to look around.
STERDAM — Google review
Great monument, well maintained except is all dirty post the crazy female attack who think ruining a historic clock is going to make a difference, such a shame, the government needs to clean it and defend it from massive manifestations.

There is a lot of places to shop around here with beautiful surroundings!
Monica M — Google review
I was devastated when I saw all the graffiti on the walls of that monument. Pachuca is turning into Mexico City extension and I don't like it. I miss my old peaceful Pachuca.
Virginia T — Google review
A beautiful structure located on the heart of Pachuca. The Monumental landmark is the center piece in the heart of downtown surrounded by traditional buildings. The square surrounding the clock has plenty of attractions. There are street vendors, restaurants and stores surrounding the plaza. Fun and exciting energy in the surrounding area so this is a must visit if you ever go to Pachuca!
Tony G — Google review
Appreciate classical architecture and experience hustle bustle of the town of Pachuca. We came on Sunday morning and was fortunate to see the local MP performing their drill in front of the clock tower. Tips: Walk beyond few blocks behind BBVA building and heads towards the Mercado. You will get first hand experience the local doing the business and its much more lively there.
M P — Google review
A beautiful Monument set in a small town square with stunning architecture. The atmosphere of stores, shops, restaurants, street vendors and tourists surrounding the clock especially the locals providing entertainment amplified the life of the square to provide an enchanting and fun experience. Another must see when visiting Pachuca

The Archivo Histórico y Museo de Minería A.C. offers a fascinating journey through the history of mining in Pachuca from 1556 to 1967. The museum showcases displays and artifacts, providing insight into the tools and conditions miners worked in. Visitors can explore models, photographs, data, and original utensils while enjoying guided tours. The well-maintained space presents a comprehensive overview of the region's mining history and is adorned with incredible minerals.
Fabulous experience. Incredible array of artifacts is massive and perfectly laid out. Whoever designed the tour deserves a gold star as it explains the mining in the region from pre-Columbian to 2005. Do not miss the opportunity for a guided tour. You will bd met by a guide and walked through. If you speak Spanish much better. This is Mexico..! It’s 50 pesos each and 50 to film and 25 per still camera. Enjoy. It’s so worth it.

Nestled in the charming town of Mineral del Monte, the Museo del Paste is a delightful tribute to the region's rich mining history and its famous pastries. Visitors can immerse themselves in an engaging experience that begins with a hands-on cooking lesson where you learn to craft your own pastes, rolling dough and adding delicious fillings. The museum tour follows, offering fascinating insights into how English miners influenced local cuisine and culture.
Wonderful experience for a very low price. We had fun making our own paste and learned a lot of interesting historical facts about the influence the English had on the town, the region and the country.
Marisela R — Google review
They don't let you take pictures and the coffee shop doesn't really have much. So, no food options. Also, there are very limited flavor options to make your own paste. The place is clean yet small and most of the tour time is taken in an audiovisual room where they tell you some of Hidalgo's story
Thazia T — Google review
The guy on the entrance was utterly rude, didn't want to sell tickets in advance because their next guided visit was half an hour later, despite being a public museum they said they have no restroom service. Such a bad attitude of the guy in the front desk when I just asked a question about the price and content of the museum.
Once B — Google review
So fun, interesting. There were guides that were able to speak a rough translation of English but there are lots of pictures and things to see. You can get the idea. The fun came in when they gave the group a cooking lesson and demonstrated and we all had a "hands on" lesson to cook our own pastes which we later cooked & consumed. The kids really loved it. Place is clean and nice. COLD! So be prepared for the altitude and the very chilly temps!!
Kim B — Google review
2015/12 Entrance fee MXN$35 is included a class of making tasty paste by yourself. Rolling the wrappers, putting the prepared filling in, closing it. Funny and tasty. And the guide explain in detail of the history of Paste. We had fun here.

The museum is fantastic! You start by making your own English pasty and then are taken on a tour around the museum with a guide. The tour is in Spanish but there may be other available languages.

Real del Monte, also known as Mineral del Monte, is a picturesque town in Mexico that holds the distinction of being one of the country's 132 Pueblos Magicos. This charming destination boasts a rich history and is conveniently located near two other Pueblos Magicos, namely Huasca de Ocampo and Mineral del Chico. One intriguing aspect of Real del Monte is its unique local cuisine, which draws inspiration from Cornwall in England.
My grandpa's town is as beautiful as always. Maybe a bit more crowded than I'd like in holidays. I recommend the tour that takes you around the place in these 2 floor busses. If you're there, you can't miss eating a paste (or 3) ☺️
Danary C — Google review
Beautiful town in the mountains, gets quite chilly and windy up there too. Only a 10 minutes away in the mountains to get here.
Y B — Google review
This is a very cute town and worth visiting for the history. This is a "pueblo magico" that means it's an old town with a lot of historical significance. This town is where pastes originated (pronounced paas-tes). They are of English origin known as pasties which are a pastry similar to an empanada. The town has lots of silver stores in tradition with the silver mines (now no longer in use).
Chris R — Google review
It's a beautiful place, crowded on Weekend but it's worth to go on week days. Good food, drinks and delicious dessert.

Pretty little magic town. Whatever is perfect, a little chill during the night. Plenty of stands for you to buy food and snacks while you walk thru the plaza.
Kharla O — Google review
We made a quick stop in Mineral Del Monte on our way to Tolantongo. It's a beautiful town with English architecture and a lot of charm. While there we tried pastes, a local specialty. They are pastries filled with sweet or savory ingredients, we preferred the sweet ones. We would have loved to stay longer and explore the town and surrounding area a little more. Hope to return soon! Enjoy y'all!

The Site Museum and Interpretation Center Mina La Difficulty offers a well-prepared exhibition that delves into the history of mining. However, some visitors noted a lack of information on local geology and mineralogy. Visitors appreciated the professional and polite guidance provided by Jesus, The Guide. Overall, it's an interesting place that provides insight into the workings of a mine, making it a cool and great destination for those interested in mining history.
A very interesting tour, although you learn about the harsh conditions miners work in and all the risk they take. A very eye-opening tour. The tour takes you to different rooms to see some pictures, machines, and stones. The price is $3.5 (70 pesos).

Hotel Posada Restaurant Santa Elena is a down-to-earth hotel with simple yet comfortable quarters featuring flat-screen TVs. The hotel offers a restaurant where guests can enjoy delicious meals and special events like New Year's Eve dinner with top-notch service. The rooms provide basic amenities and some offer stunning views from small balconies. The hotel's central location in Real del Monte makes it convenient for exploring the area, although accessing the rooms may require climbing several stairs.
Very nice room with a king size bed, a little coffee table and a nice jacuzzi. We loved the view, we could see the town plaza and the church. In the morning we took some breakfast (included) and since it was very well located, we could visit all the small shops across the street. We totally recommend it and would love to visit them again.

(Translated by Google) It is super well located in the very center of Real. The attention is fast, friendly and accurate. The rooms are comfortable and beautiful. It has cable and hot water. It seems to me that the quality-price ratio is adequate. I only leave one observation for the owners, if it is useful to them or if they want to take it into account. After 10:30 it is already an abuse that they make such loud noises if they know they have guests. I say this because when I stayed, they had a birthday party downstairs but they made a lot of noise. Now more of the partygoers wanted to sound the horn... I think it would have been better to have held the celebration earlier but at 11:45 p.m. it seemed inconsiderate to the guests on the first floor. Apart from that, which I believe the owner didn't even know about, everything was fine.

(Translated by Google) We felt cheated, when we arrived they told us that they didn't have everything and that it was 'simpler' to tell us what dishes they had instead of bringing the menu ⚠️ mistake ⚠️, we should have asked prices for each thing! For example $37 for a pot coffee. We were 3 people, we ended up with a bill of almost a thousand pesos! Everyone ordered a simple dish (a rather dry omelet, an egg with chorizo that had not been removed and was very greasy) with coffee and we ordered sopes, pulque bread and cream to share. What we do recommend are the pulque bread with cream and the sopesitos; and the latter were the only ones at a reasonable price. The (un)happy course left a bad taste in our mouths. How sad that they are this abusive, we already understood why the place was so empty on the weekend.

(Translated by Google) We had a pleasant surprise eating there. We were welcomed by some very cold cheves that were fabulous for the warmth. The food well served and delicious. Very nice background music, and fast and friendly service. I recommend the bread they make right there. It looks like they have a room to receive groups.

(Translated by Google) Terrible service. I don't recommend it. They took forever, and we only ordered hot chocolate and pastries. The pastry was very unpleasant. I ordered Hawaiian.

(Translated by Google) The place is not bad 😉 it is a little small but it is very nice. The only thing I didn't like is that the drinks are more sugar than flavor. The conchita with cream did not have a good flavor....but the girls were very friendly (Original) No está mal el lugar 😉 es un poco pequeño pero es muy lindo .

(Translated by Google) The food is delicious, with a lovely homemade touch. The pastries are also delicious, and the atmosphere is very warm. We received incredible service from the moment we arrived. The place is a bit hidden, but it's definitely worth it. If you come, you won't regret it 💗 (Original) La comida está deliciosa, con un toque casero muy rico.

(Translated by Google) A nice place to enjoy a delicious coffee and a pastry. The coffee is very good, by the way. It has a partial view of the town. Very friendly attention from the staff, just a little slow when they are full, but nothing that prevents you from enjoying the stay.
