Te Anau Lakeview Holiday Park & Motels

Hotel
Te Anau Lakeview Holiday Park & Motels is a great choice for budget travelers, especially those on a road trip with campervans or motorhomes. The property offers budget rooms and mini A-frame cabins, as well as campsites for camping enthusiasts. Families will appreciate the on-site children's playground and hot tub for relaxation. The facilities include clean shower areas, communal cooking space with available cooking supplies, and spotlessly clean toilets and showers.
Great park. Big bathrooms with hot clean showers with lots of hanging space. Nice big kitchen with lots of fridge and freezer space, plenty of hot plates and two ovens. Nice little seating area in the laundry to wait for your washing. Location was absolutely fantastic the centre a 15 minute walk, far out enough that its nice and quiet but close enough to reach everything. Super close to great walking tracks and the bird sanctuary and fjordland visitor centre. 10 minute drive from Kepler track starting points. 10/10 would love to come back in the future!

Very comfortable stay. My husband and I stayed in a deluxe studio as part of the Marakura Motel and the room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Very serviceable kitchen for cooking meals as well. The weather wasn’t great during our stay, but we still got a great view from our room. Great location close to town, and a good stop over to then do a day trip to Milford Sound. Staff very helpful at check in. Great laundry facilities too! Only constructive comment would be that we walked out of our room around 9am to find staff there wanting to service our room - check out isn’t until 10am, and their lingering made us feel quite rushed to get out. Minor detail as the other aspects of our stay were very positive.

We stayed at Te Anau Holiday Park for 2 days, and the experience was wonderful! It quickly became one of my favorite holiday parks. The scenery around the park is beautiful and the atmosphere is peaceful, making it a perfect place to relax. The facilities are well equipped and thoughtfully maintained — clean washrooms with shower cubicles and toilets, a kitchen, dining room, and laundry room for convenience. The location is also great, with hiking tracks nearby that cater to both beginners and those looking for something more adventurous. Overall, a fantastic stay in a scenic and relaxing environment. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Te Anau.
Suan L — Google review
We had a motorhome powered site ... all amenities very clean and tidy ... most sites have a lake view ... the communal kitchen has an outstanding spacious glassed dining area; unobstructed views of the lake ... ... the amenities block is not heated, BUT such is a minor "first world problem", given the serenity ... oh, the town centre is a 10min walk
Paul S — Google review
I booked a room at Te Anau Lakeview but didn’t end up staying because the whole town lost power that day. When I called the motel to cancel, they told me I still had to pay the full amount — even though they couldn’t provide any power, heating, or hot water. It’s very disappointing that instead of caring for guests in an unexpected situation, they chose to keep the payment for a service they couldn’t deliver. In New Zealand, customers shouldn’t have to pay when the service is unavailable. I would not recommend booking here.
Elsie L — Google review
Caravan site directly in front of some cabin. Understandably that our caravan would have block the view of those staying in the cabin but is not our fault as the design of the campsites is such. Kitchen not that great due to lack of dining table. Only can accommodate 3 groups. Need to walk far to throw rubbish after cooking as there is nk trash bin in kitchen. Only the sitting area within the new laundy area look great. Laundry is good.
Eddie L — Google review
Flat site for motorhomes Toilet facilities are great, warm and lots of them. Tiny cubicles though make it tight with kids. Great view Very close to town, 15 min walk along the river with little kids on flat surface. Can get change easy at reception from a machine for the laundry. Use the smaller laundry to wash and the larger one to dry as you get more time for your money. Great little playground for the kids and lounge area. Camp kitchen looked great Very good wifi
Kirsty H — Google review
My partner and I booked this place, paid for it and switched up our plan at the last minute because of a change in the weather. The person at the reception was extremely kind and helped us cancel our booking with a full refund. She also let us use the facilities at the site to fill up our water and discharge our gray water. The place is run by supremely kind people and I’d definitely recommend it to people traveling to Te Anu.

Punanga Manu o Te Anau, also known as Te Anau Bird Sanctuary, is a peaceful green space located just a short drive away from Radfords on the Lake. You can take a leisurely 25-minute stroll through gardens to reach this sanctuary nestled on the shores of Lake Te Anau.
Highly recommend the guided tour at 1030am. Jean was a fantastic guide, her passion for the birds and expertise was apparent from the start, and it was a highlight of our time in South Island. The tour also took us inside the enclosures, up close and personal with the takahē
Victor K — Google review
Honestly thought we’d get to see more birds but for a free to the public bird sanctuary this place is pretty great! Got to see the takahae birds, as well as the chattiest most fun parakeets I’ve ever encountered, and different types of ducks. The kaka were on loan for breeding so sadly we didn’t get to see them, and in my opinion the only thing missing to complete the experience was a kiwi bird or 2. Otherwise this was a fun little stop lakeside, across the street from the national park. Worth a stop if you’re in the area.
Amanda E — Google review
Tiny little, free sanctuary with some really interesting birds in small enclosures. But the birds really do seem happy and content with their place there. Fun to walk to, easy to get to via a very scenic walking path from town, and it's beautiful even if it's not kept up. The public toilet is a pit toilet, so bring hand sanitizer if you need to use it.
Phyllis R — Google review
A bargain at twice the price, this (free parking and entry) bird sanctuary seemed in the process of changing management, and a a few of the enclosures seemed empty, but we got great views of these Takahes and a couple others- no kiwis, but we expected that going into it. Nice, relaxed way to spend an hour while visiting Te Anau in early Spring (late Sept/early Oct) after or between bigger adventures
Alex T — Google review
A tremendous surprise to find a Bird Sanctuary that cost nothing to wander around. Saw my first ever Takahē.
Alan W — Google review
Highly recommend stopping by if staying or travelling through Te Anau. Beautiful park, you can tell the bird here are well looked after. Went in the morning and got to see the breeding pair of takahē with their chick foraging up close to the fence. Lots of information on the birds around the park,
Pixel K — Google review
Awesome conservation work sheltering and breeding some of NZs rarest birds. The highlight is the Takahe enclosure where we watched a pair with a young one rooting around and digging up roots. There's not many places you'll get to see this remarkable bird that was thought to be extinct until recently.
Stuart P — Google review
Punanga Manu o Te Anau / Te Anau Bird Sanctuary is a must-visit for nature lovers and bird enthusiasts alike. It’s truly amazing to see these beautiful and often rare birds up close in such a peaceful setting. The sanctuary is well-maintained, and the staff are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about conservation. Watching the takahē and kākā in their naturalistic enclosures was a highlight—such a special experience. The free entry (with donations encouraged) makes it accessible to everyone, and it’s a great educational stop for families too. A lovely way to connect with New Zealand’s unique wildlife.

The Fiordland National Park Visitor Centre is a must-visit for tourists seeking information about the stunning Fiordland National Park. Additionally, visitors can explore the Te Anau Wildlife Centre nearby to spot Takahe, Kea, and Kaka.

We had a rather frustrating and unpleasant experience here. We visited to attempt to gather some information on tramping tracks conditions in the area (not necessarily about Great Walks). We had specific questions to which the information was not available online on the DOC website. The employee was not only unhelpful (had barely any constructive information for us), but also was condescending and annoyed in many of her responses, as if trying to dissuade us from “harder” tracks (ie not Great Walks) without actually ascertaining our experience and capabilities. Most of the information she regurgitated was available on the DOC website already. I understand that many people come here wildly unprepared and attempt tracks that are way over their head, sometimes even needing to be rescued, but projecting that frustration on people simply asking questions about current trail conditions, snow pack, and the snow line is uncalled for. I’m not sure this visitor center will be much help for any trip planning you have, assuming you’ve already read the information on the DOC website, as they seem better suited to provide the generic regional advisories (weather, avalanche, pest control, etc) over specific trail condition information.

Great place to visit, amazing back story.
Stephen D — Google review
Great spot with helpful staff. We did the Routeburn and the Kepler with a night's rest in-between. After getting our first walk booking confirmation stamped, a staff member asked us to come back between walks to get the stamp for the next walk. I thought it was a bit strange to ask us to return again just to get a stamp, so we asked to get it there and then and it was fine. No dramas. No hut in New Zealand has ever asked to see a stamped booking from us, so it seems a bit silly that we'd have to revisit the DOC centre, especially when the old legs are aching. The addition of getting a stamped booking confirmation while carrying a print out of an online booking confirmation seems a bit silly, especially if you arrived in town after the visitor centre closes. I can imagine some people could get worried in that situation. Perhaps a stamp isn't required and we were told incorrect info from our bus driver - apologies if that's the case. That said, DOC are amazing and set the global standard for conservation and tramping. What a great set up with amazing people. Thank you for the unforgettable experiences. We are very grateful.

Great experience, beautiful scenery. We took a scenic cruise with lunch picnic and visit to the underwater observatory. Nice choice of snacks, sandwiches and fruit, even cookies and chocolate. Observatory was educational. Interesting lectures by staff, would not have liked to miss that. Will sure be back with friends and family.

Do visit the tourist centre to find out more information before you go for the hike. Nice walking pathway to the first shelter. Took me 1.45hrs one way, a lot of sandflies so be prepared. Our target was to reach the first shelter and return after that.

Absolutely stunning National Park. The landscape is spectacular. Get onto some of the walking tracks or take a cruise on one of the fiords to see it at its best.

A nice information centre that tells you important things that you need to know for the surrounding area. The centre also sells essential camping and hiking gear should you go on a multi day tramp at the nearby trails.

Te Anau Lakefront Backpackers is a relaxed hostel offering a variety of accommodation options such as tents, dorms, rooms, and cabins. The property provides free Wi-Fi, a movie room, and indoor/outdoor cooking facilities. It's conveniently located just a five-minute walk from the town center and offers stunning views of Te Anau Lake. Guests can choose between shared dorm rooms or opt for more affordable glamping tents.
I had not stayed in a backpackers for some time and really only needed a bed for the night before starting a hike. I was impressed with the set up. The rooms are at the back and the communal area in the front with a lake view. My room was clean and tidy, itbis notna modern backpackers but not much to fault considering the value for money. Easy walk into the main centre or fiordland visitor centre and along waterfront

Comfortable and clean hostel to stay in Te Anau, it is close to the lake and the main street. Staff is very friendly and keen on helping us with whatever we need. The manager lady from Chile is legend! Very welcoming and helpful, knows everything we asked about hiking and Milford sound.
Gao E — Google review
I stayed in the 4 bedroom dorm, it was basic but the beds were comfortable. The dorm bathroom wasn't fantastic (no shelves/bad floor drainage) but there are nicer common bathrooms you can use if you don't want wet feet. The common spaces were great - there's a big well-stocked kitchen, a TV lounge and other semi-seperate lounges with lovely big windows overlooking the lake. My friends and I booked two nights and ended up only staying one, but the staff were super helpful in putting the room on resell for the second night. It didn't resell, but we were grateful that they were willing to try that option for us!
Avi N — Google review
We stayed in one of the lakefront rooms. The room was cosy and spacious and a great view of the lake. Recently renovated and had everything you needed for a comfortable stay. The common areas were clean and tidy - they were cleaned throughout the day. Great lounge area overlooking the lake - perfect for a morning coffee and a space to read your book on a rainy morning! Staff were all really friendly. Just a short walk into town - quiet location.

Top 3 my favourite hostels in New Zealand, and I have been in the country for almost a year as a backpacker. 😌 I have to say the service was warm, even if it was winter the facilities are always on time, receptionist, was top. Right now, they are improving some of the shared rooms with cabins 🐳 If you come to Te Anau give it a go, and don't miss the change to talk with all the people around.

Located by the lake, the lounge is large, beautiful and has a great view. The rooms are clean and the heating is very warm. And 啊lovely girl with black curly hair helped us store the luggage left in the reception room in the storage room. Thank you very much🫶.

Stayed in the private cabin rooms. Very cosy and warm in the rooms. Shared showers and toilets were very clean and decently large. Tea and coffee room had everything we needed including kettle, cutlery and drink ware. Located right across the lake.
Erica L — Google review
I booked the private glamping and was pleasantly surprised by how peaceful it was, even though it’s located within a backpacker setting. The facilities were clean and well-maintained, making it a comfortable and relaxing stay. The glamping setup is charming—perfect for a romantic getaway with your partner.

The Te Anau Glowworm Caves, discovered in 1948, are a popular tourist attraction known for their mesmerizing glow worms. Located beneath the mountains and accessible by boat across Lake Te Anau, these limestone passages feature sculpted rock formations, whirlpools, and underground waterfalls. Visitors can take a leisurely tour through this mysterious underground world to witness the silent darkness illuminated by hundreds of tiny glow worms.
What a wonderful adventure...one of the best inexpensive activities to do. The cave system is very well organised with amazing walkways and some of the best tour guides we have come across. Leading you into the cave pausing along the way to teach you all about the glow worms... coming to the end with a boat ride to bring you face to face with the worms was amazing. Be prepared for pitch black ride in the dark and to be completely silent along with ducking down low to get in but it is totally worth it. Highly recommend this activity to anyone with the fascination for adventure and interest to learn something about mother nature!
Harry S — Google review
Staff are amazing, giving a balanced amount of information and quiet time from the 25 minute smooth boat across the lake, to taking small groups of about 10 into the cave onto a smaller boat. Not sure why there’s no photos in the cave, I understand no flash and once you’re in the pitch black, but not on entry. However, an amazing walk through the water gushing caves and then into the pitch black to see these fascinating creatures. Presentation at the end was great too.
R2thebizel — Google review
The Te Anau glow worm caves are an absolute must and should not be missed. Super friendly staff, easy trip, fantastic experience. Five hundred thumbs up from me. (my 22 year old son rated this higher than Milford Sound 😮)
Charmaine R — Google review
These caves are a culturally and ecologically important system of limestone caves on the western shore of Lake Te Anau, in the southwest of New Zealand. It is a major tourist attraction for the area, as the part of the caverns close to the lake shore is home to glow worms. No one is allowed to take photos inside the caves where the glow worms live for personal safety reasons. Very popular place, lots of tourists and locals. We boarded the boat at Te Anau that took us across to the caves about 30 minutes away. Fee charged for the trip and entry. Uneven terrain, lot of walking. Inside the caves, head clearances are unpredictable and hence you have to be careful especially as it dark in the caves. The guides use torches but its use is minimal. Part of the journey inside involves travel on small boats that are pulled along a fixed route. The glow worms are amazing to see and it is a wonder of nature. Pity that photography is not allowed.
S V — Google review
It was an awesome first time experience to see glow worms in the cave. The journey to the cave was by a boat which itself was amazing. Friendly staff keeping all visitors well informed about the facts and history of the cave. I will certainly recommend others to experience nature and its creation.
Irshaad C — Google review
Wow, an unforgettable and magical experience that left me in awe. Our guide was wonderful...and then she sang "Hallelujah" in the middle of the cave...I had goosebumps and there might have been something in my eye...I was very moved by her beautiful voice. The trio to the cave was equally as wonderful...the amazing views are truly what makes New Zealand so special. Highly recommend!!!

Pictures on Google are deceiving - there really aren't that many glow worms in the cave. Most of the tour is the boat ride there or educational filler. If you don't believe me, read some of the other "bad" reviews. That being said, there are a couple of memorable experiences where they take you down a pitch black tunnel on a boat and go right under some gloworms so that's 30cm from your face. While the experience was ok overall I'm really not a fan of the company RealNZ. Booked in a 5:45 session and was cancelled 10 mins right after doing so with a vague reason - no follow up to try and reschedule. When we get to the wharf, there's the 5:45 session coming in and our boat was 30+ mins late. Their other tour (Doubtful Sounds) was again mainly transport and educational filler.
Nikolai — Google review
Mixed feelings. On the one hand, you could argue the 30-min boat ride across Lake Te Anau and visit to the caves alone is worth it. Beautiful surroundings and fascinating cave that is impressive to walk through. The experience of pitch black and silence as you glide on the boat to see the glow worms is also unique, surreal and amazing. However, I couldn’t believe how quickly this was over. And the amount of glow worms was minimal compared to the pictures so I did feel slightly misled. Of course they are animals and the amount must vary day to day. I feel it’s a matter of needing more accurate descriptions of what experience you are getting before booking. A disclaimer about glow worms being part of nature and numbers varying would help manage expectations. Also, I knew the whole tour was over 2 hours, so I was disappointed when only about 30 mins of this was actually in the cave with the glow worms. The stuff around it: boat ride, nature walk learning about native plants, and hot drink during presentation, I did appreciate and enjoy, but I didn’t know that’s what I was booking when I booked. It wouldn’t necessarily have put me off, it’s just a matter of managing expectations and accurate advertising to avoid disappointment. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable.

RealNZ - Te Anau Visitor Centre offers a variety of tours, including trips to Milford Sound and the Glowworm caves. Visitors have praised the informative and entertaining commentary provided by the tour guides, as well as the stunning views and abundant waterfalls along the way. The glow worm cave tours were particularly highlighted for their informational value and length. The visitor centre also provides return coach services to Milford Sound, with drivers who are commended for their amusing and informative commentary throughout the journey.
We booked the milford sound bus tour & boat cruise. So glad we haven't ride by ourselves! Very safe drive and unbelievable breathtaking scenic ride (the best scenic road drive in whole NZ!). The guides in the bus and on the boat did a great job explaining the beautiful nature around us in very detail. We would do it exactly that way again. Thank you so much for the great experience @RealNZ!

Did the coach and boat tour to Milford Sound. It’s very professionally done with a glass roof coach, great driver who is also your guide and then equally great crew once you’re onboard. There are a few short stops along the way which I felt were superbly spaced and timed. Great information along the way and once on board, great food and drinks. The road was easy to travel in July but can get bad in August - September. The landscape and area are off the scale…

From the staff at the center, to the bus drivers and the guides on the boat.. the doubtful sounds cruise experience was amazing and informative. A very relaxing time and stunning views left right and center. boats had great facilities with hot and cold water readily available for all to access, food and drink available for purchase, but you can always bring your own food with you.

Did the Milford Sound Tour & Cruise from Te Anau An Amazing experience which would not have been possible without the knowledgable tour guide, Simon, who knew so much about the region, down to little tips on where to go and what to see beyond this tour. The scenery was amazing and I was fortunate to be in a small group of 5 so we had more time at the stops and a lot of photo ops. Thank you Simon for showing us the best photo spots. The driving was really smooth despite some rough parts on the road and Simon was a really considerate driver. The boat cruise to Milford was amazing - saw penguins and fur seals Got up super close to both Stirling and Bowen Falls. This tour did not have lunch provided and had to purchase things on board ($33 for fish and chips 8) but got a coffee instead and glad that l had taken some snacks. Definitely recommend taking some light snacks as the range onboard the boat cruise is more sugary cakes and slices with a handful of actual food options. The cruise itself is short and full of interesting things to see so you wouldn't want to miss out on that while eating so grab and go snacks are better. Luckily it wasn't raining on the day but it was a little overcast, and it was beautiful nonetheless. Would do this again. Recommend booking through RealNZ because you get discounts.

We did the Milford sound tour from Te Anau. The coach was comfortable and we had a great view through the glass ceiling. Our guide/driver Craig was awesome, so knowledgeable about the area and some great jokes thrown in. The boat ride was beautiful albeit a little windy and cold (to be expected!)

Disappointing experience with reception staff. The receptionists were unfriendly and unhelpful, giving the impression that they were unhappy in their roles and unwelcoming to visitors. One of my friends was injured and walking slowly, and instead of showing understanding or support, the staff were dismissive and unkind toward her. We arrived at the boat to the Glowworm Cave a couple of minutes before the scheduled 2pm departure. Despite being within the time frame, the staff made no effort to accommodate her or the friends assisting her, and actively tried to prevent them from boarding. It was a disappointing experience, especially considering the circumstances.

Miles Better Pies is a local favorite pie shop known for its delicious and hearty pies. The venison pie comes highly recommended, featuring big, tender chunks of local venison cooked to perfection and well-seasoned. The satay chicken pie is also a popular choice, bursting with authentic flavors. Locals frequent the shop for their daily pie fix, attesting to its quality.
I was recommended to try the pies here, and specifically for my first time to try a venison pie. It did not disappoint! The plum sauce added an element that just perfected my first venison pie experience! Service was quick and friendly. Highly recommend!

Absolutely loved this cozy little pie shop! The aroma as you walk in is enough to make your mouth water. The pies are freshly baked, golden, and perfectly flaky with generous, flavorful fillings. Whether you’re into classic mince & cheese, steak & mushroom, or a sweet treat like apple pie, they’ve got something for everyone. Friendly staff, warm atmosphere, and great value for money. A perfect stop for a comforting bite any time of day!

An absolute must visit pie bakery in Te Anau/South Island. These were up there in the best pies I've had on my trip across NZ. They're famous for their venison and plum pie and lamb with mint. I ordered the venison pie and loved how tender the meat was and how it all came together with the sweetness of the plum. I also ordered the bacon and egg pie which surprisingly was my favourite and best pie I've had of that flavour. The mince and cheese was nice but could be less rich? Otherwise, I'd highly recommend this place. The staff are friendly and efficient, place is clean and there is parking out front.

Loved the pie!! Got there on 1st Sep worried it might not be opened but YAY it is. Got the creamy chicken! It was SOOOO GOOD! The pastry is just right, not too flaky and not too dense. Filling was nice and chicken was tender. My friend had the steak & pepper and she approved it as well!

Perfect little pit stop in Te Anau and right next to the petrol station, making it super convenient for a quick bite. The variety of pies and the venison pie was especially tasty: rich, hearty, and tasty. Grabbed a coffee to go as well. Friendly staff.

Tried creamy chicken, venison pies. Pies are okay and price well. Not too crispy and not too flaky. Flat white not enough coffee too much milk.

My favorite pie shop! Richly flavoured and full of meat. Favourites where the Thai chicken curry, venison and lamb mint. Lovely service from the nice lady at the counter.

We arrived there at 7.40am and surprisingly the pie is ready, hot and tasty. Ordered the beef & steak pie, chicken & bacon pie both very well. For drink, i have the chai latte, but it is a bit too sweet for me. The shop doesn't have an indoor seating area, but right outside the shop, there are a few outdoor picnic tables.

Asian fusion restaurant
Takeout Restaurant
Ditto is a dining spot in Te Anau that serves up fresh and flavorful Asian-inspired street food. The menu features a fusion of South and East Asian flavors, crafted from the best local produce. The restaurant offers a modern and funky atmosphere perfect for sharing meals with friends or family. Customers have praised the sushi bowls for being filling and suitable even for those who struggle with chopsticks.
WOW, this was seriously delicious. Loved my fried chicken bao bun. The fries were great, and my husband really enjoyed his poke bowl. Just a note that the sign on the door said the restaurant was closed on Saturdays, but it was open when we went. Loved the vibe of the place and that there was plenty of water and lots of sauces available.

There are three vegan food options including fries. We recommend the Crispy Tofu Sushi bowl as the Toufie Bao Bun with lettuce is not worth the money. This was our best and most fresh vegan meal option in Te Anau! We were also grateful for the hours (open for the full day) and ambience.

🤩HIGHLY RECOMMEND🤩 Food was FRESH & absolutely DELICIOUS. Must try! The restaurant was spotless including the restrooms. Bao buns are a MUST TRY & the topped loaded fries we ate way too eagerly 😂 Don’t over think it, just dine here and be blown away! 😋

Absolutely delicious food! I came on a weekday during lunchtime. I ordered the tuna poke bowl - this was surprisingly the nicest poker bowl I've ever had. The flavours just paired so well. The tuna was fresh and didn't taste metallic or fishy. I really liked how the veggies all blended perfectly. The pork adobo was also delicious, very well seasoned and tender. The place is clearly run by a family or people who love what they do and it shows. An absolute must visit

Best food we had in Te Anau! Everything was super tasty and cooked to perfection. We had the bao bun Bambi (the best of the dishes we got), the bao bun with tofu (a solid combo) and Vietnamese loaded fries with chicken and tofu chips. If we where to do it again we would skip the tofu chips and go for another bao bun or the sushi bowl. 10/10 would recommend!
Kasper H — Google review
Great food and service. It's located in the town center with indoor and outdoor seating. Their spicy tuna sushi bowl was fantastic. They also have a good wine selection. Highly recommended.
Karthik V — Google review
Feathered bao bun was average, Tom Kha Gai soup flavourless, tofu chips were good, Ginger beer was flat. Service was on the slow side. Not sure why this place is so highly rated on google maps. Maybe the loaded fries are the way to go here??

Great food, great staff! Stylish little eatery feels like you’re in a Foodie lane in Auckland. Ventured away the usual Bao buns and tried the Filipino pork Adobo. Pork was super tender and had so much flavour.

Kepler Restaurant offers a Patagonia-style barbecue experience with a variety of delectable dishes. The lamb cooked over a wood fire and the orange roughy, fish of the day, are particularly recommended. While some found the desserts to be fair, others enjoyed the large servings and friendly service. Visitors appreciate the helpful staff and clean environment, making it a highly recommended dining spot for those looking for great food and service.
Great meal, great service, great experience. We were served by Alex a couple of nights ago, he was very helpful. We had the ribs, seafood paella and lamb salad. Everything was lovely. Loretto was also great and the chef was happy to answer questions about halal meat. Appreciate the effort that goes into your meals and service. Place was also very clean. Would highly recommend!

Apologies. I forgot to photograph the deserts. Nice restaurant. Patagonia style barbecue. Wife had lamb cooked over a wood fire. She liked it. I had orange roughy, the fish of the day. It was delicious. For desert, she had a brownie with a scoop of ice cream on top. It was fair. I had fruit salad with whipped cream on top. It was fair. Service was fair. There's free parking in back.

Very pricey. The specialty BBQ lamb will sound super appealing but order something else. We ordered 3 portions and they were all dry and over cooked.

The best meal we had so far in New Zealand. Crayfish direct from Milford Sound. So fresh and sweet. Calamari fritter is also extremely tender. Fish Goujons fritter and the green-lipped mussel are also so tasty and sweet. And the lamb platter is also very fragrant... meat so tender even my mum said she has no problem chewing the meat 🤣🤣. The lamb is from the local farm and is barbequed with an open pit fire. . Food : 5/5 Service : 4/5 Price : $$$$ Place : 4/5 . Halal Rest : The Kepler Location : Te Anau City : New Zealand .

Good restaurant with a Chilean flair from the chef being an expat. The seafood chowder was really good, just loaded with seafood, like with every mouthful. The food and the service we're both good.

Amazing food and wines. Great atmosphere and Chilean decor. We had lamb and vegetarian tortilla made of carrots and onions with lentil and quinoa salad. Really enjoyed the place. It is a very busy place so reservations are strongly recommended

Garlic bread was good. Sad to say that was the best part. Ribeye steak tasted good but was partly raw for a medium. No mushroom sauce as mentioned on menu. Ordered vege side but was dry. Service was average, didn't explain the fish or soup of the day, didn't tell us some menu items were out u till we ordered.

Nestled along the picturesque shores of Lake Te Anau, The Moose Bar and Armadillos Restaurant is a delightful family-friendly venue that caters to all tastes. With an exciting kids' menu and a variety of signature dishes, including the classic steak, it’s perfect for both casual dining and special occasions. Guests can soak up the sun in the inviting beer garden while watching sailboats glide across the lake or immerse themselves in the lively atmosphere as they cheer on their favorite teams on large screens.
We ordered lamb shank, pork ribs and apple crumble. All three were super delicious. In the best way possible, the lamb shank was like a good home cooked meal - felt so homey eating it. My husband’s pork ribs were tender and he loved the spicy bbq sauce. Apple crumble really fulfilled my cravings too! If we were not tourists we would definitely come again!

2 Stars for that “friendly staff” My family and I traveled to Te Anau from Auckland for a beautiful trip. We explored the lovely town and visited the glowworm caves. Everything was amazing, except our experience at this restaurant. When we arrived, a waitress seated us at a table that seemed chosen for her own convenience, not ours. There were plenty of empty tables around, but we were put in a spot that didn’t feel comfortable. We kindly asked if we could move to a soft couch seat, and another staff member was very friendly. He said we were welcome to sit wherever we liked and even introduced some of the menu items to us. We really appreciated his warm attitude. But just as we settled at the new table, the original waitress came back and said in an unfriendly tone, “Weren’t you sitting over there? Why did you move?”
We were surprised. There were still lots of empty seats, so why did it matter? It felt like she was treating us like her pets, expecting us to follow her orders, and showing clear disapproval when we didn’t. No customer should be made to feel that way. The whole situation left us feeling really uncomfortable and unwelcome. It felt like some people just aren’t free to sit where they prefer, which is hard to understand when there were so many empty tables. If that’s how things are run, it really makes you question the attitude of the staff, especially hers, and the standard of service at this place. We hope no one else has to feel this way. Te Anau is a beautiful place, and experiences like this should not happen to any visitor.

We came here for dinner after given recommendations by our hotel manager. Decided to check out their menu. Ordered their signature pork ribs and the the rib eye steak. Also had a local ale to go with it. The ribs were nicely done, soft and well marinated. The sauce that goes with it was a bit sweet but still quite tasty. The rib eye was nicely done and taste great as well. Service was efficient and the restaurant had a good crowd on a Saturday night.

5/5! My partner and I had an early dinner here waiting for a tour. The food and service was wonderful. I had the Lamb Hot Pot and my partner had the Surf N Turf, we were both really happy with our meals. Would recommend anyone come here for a tasty, hot meal and a drink while you're staying on Te Anau.

Cafe
Bailiez Cafe & Bar offers a lovely and prompt service in a spacious and cozy atmosphere with comfortable booth seating by the windows. The place is family-friendly, with private booths for a peaceful dining experience. It features two fireplaces, one with seating, adding to the warm ambiance. The menu includes decently sized portions at reasonable prices. The lamb shank is particularly recommended for its tenderness and flavorful accompaniments of veggies.
Me and my family stopped for breakfast at this cafe. We loved the service given to us by the staff and we were seated immediately. Once our food arrived, it looked really good. I ordered the Mediterranean Eggs, and everyone loved the taste of the Eggs. The atmosphere of the place felt like a cafe. I would definitely come back here.

Such a nice place. The staff is really lovely and it has a very cosy atmosphere. The food was amazing!!! We had the burger, wild venison and soup of the day, we could really taste the menu was well thought trough and that they are using fresh produce. Cannot wait to go again.

I had the venison here tonight. I ordered it medium, and it was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The venison simply melted in my mouth and the red wine redux sauce was sublime. The meat was balanced by a big heap of mixed fresh vegetables which was equally delicious.

We had a very busy night in Te Anau, trying multiple restaurants before finally finding a spot at Bailey’s. We were so glad we did! The booths were spacious and comfortable, perfect for our family of four, with plenty of room for extra adults or children if needed. The staff were warm and welcoming, and the menu had something for everyone. Our children enjoyed classics like chicken nuggets and chips, while another went for the spaghetti bolognese. We tried the lamb shanks—which were well priced, with the option of ordering one or two—and they were delicious. The steak was tender and served with a great variety of vegetables. The wine list was also impressive, with plenty of local options. We loved it so much we came back the next day for breakfast. Once again we sat in a booth and were greeted by the same friendly service. The breakfast menu was excellent, with a wide range of choices—our kids were especially thrilled with the waffles. Overall, Bailey’s is a gem that deserves far more reviews than it currently has. We highly recommend giving it a go—you won’t be disappointed!

Well presented Reserve ribeye meal but sadly the best thing about this was the vegetables and not the steak. The steak was chewy and hard to cut. No one comes to ask how your meal is, they only ask when you pay. Told them it was very average and the wait staff shrugged. Would not recommend as it was a waste of $49.

I was a little nervous to try Bailiez given the 4.1 staff rating, but it's perfect for what it is: an unpretentious, gastropub style bistro attached to a hotel. The young service team seemed understaffed and overworked but were nonetheless cheerful and friendly. Service is remarkably fast and efficient given how busy it is (the neighbouring hotel is packed daily with tour buses to/from Milford Sound). Lamb shank appears to be the most popular order, but I recommend the grilled salmon (having tried and rated salmon all over Australia, Europe and North America, I would highlight that grilled NZ salmon is the freshest and tastiest I've had anywhere, with the ideal skin and fat content for grilling).
World F — Google review
Pretty casual place, but great food. The staff were nice, but definitely more low-key. I would recommend any fish, but especially the salmon, it was soooo good! They also have some pretty interesting wines. The interior is rustic and pub-like, also pretty casual. Great experience overall!

Had a great dinner at Bailiez Café & Bar in Te Anau, just near the lake. Plenty of parking made it super convenient. We ordered the mushroom ravioli, prawn linguini, South Island Kiwi steak, and free-range chicken breast — all dishes were warm, generous in size, and absolutely delicious. A big thanks to the team for offering halal options like chicken, steak, and lamb shanks — really appreciated! Definitely recommend if you're in Te Anau and looking for a good meal in a relaxed setting.

Glow Worm Restaurant in Te Anau offers a delightful fusion of New Zealand and Chinese cuisine, using locally sourced ingredients to create culinary masterpieces. Guests rave about the flavorful dishes, such as black pepper venison, stir-fried veggies, fried chicken noodles, and more. The restaurant's authentic Chinese offerings like Sichuan fish with pickled mustard greens and lamb seasoned with cumin have also garnered praise.
I was genuinely surprised to find such incredible Chinese food in a small town! The Chinese food here is truly outstanding—authentic, flavorful, and expertly prepared! The pickled fish, 地三鲜 (Three Delicacies of the Earth), and chicken and corn soup were all exceptional. Especially, 地三鲜—this might just be the best I’ve ever had, in or outside of China. Huge kudos to the chef! Beyond the amazing food, the service was just as impressive. The team is warm, welcoming, and incredibly easy to talk to, making the whole experience even better. Highly recommend!

Authentic Chinese cuisine with welcoming hospitality. Salty crispy pork and dumpling are so great like what we had in Aisan cities. A must-go spot in Te Anau if you fancy for real good Chinese food.
Simon Y — Google review
A Chinese cuisine restaurant. Next to an inn. Available parking outside the restaurant. The dishes taste reasonably to Asian Chinese standard, but the fried rice was rather bland and pepper fried pork wasn’t what we expected. Nonetheless, Chinese cuisine of this standard in a non-Asian country, the standard is commendable and hence the 4-star rating. I must say that the staff was very friendly.

very strange to have a Chinese restaurant with old Western decor. the food looks authentic, both the venison and lamb are very tender, but everything is near tasteless. disappointing.
Woon N — Google review
Paid NZD33 and NZD37 for the pickled cabbage fish (酸菜鱼) and sweet and sour chicken (酸甜鸡) respectively. The fish pieces were soft and fresh. The broth was appetising. The sweet and sour chicken was crispy on the inside and filled with "wok hei". Service was friendly. The ambience was relaxed as there was classical music in the background.

It's rare to find an authentic Chinese restaurant out in the rural area. The Glow Worm restaurant is located in The Village Inn. The duck was spicy, which was perfect after being in the wintry weather for a whole day!

We went for the sauerkraut fish which is listed as Blue cod with pickled mustard green broth. This combination of flavors might sound weird but is absolutely divine! We discovered a few more favourites such as ‘three fresh delicacies’ (vegetarian) and kung Pau. They had a big group arrive and apologized to us for the wait, but we really didn’t have much of a wait at all. The service was excellent!

Located in Te Anau, The Fat Duck is a lively gastro pub known for its extensive menu and live music on Saturday nights. It offers a social atmosphere and features a vegan menu alongside high-quality mains, steaks, burgers, fish and chips, pasta, and salads. The restaurant provides an inviting atmosphere with impeccable service that complements the day's adventures.
Reservations are recommended however with came early at 530pm with a group of 12. The staff are super friendly and were extremely accommodating to young kids (chalk and drawings allowed). Thanks heaps for having us! Finally had some good Hazy Ale on tap and the food was actually pretty decent. The duck wontons were probably the best dish. This place nails it in terms of hospitality.

We rocked up early for dinner and thankfully they had tables because it filled up fairly quickly! Service was excellent - very friendly and helpful. I had the lamb shoulder and my partner had the market fish of the day which was moki and both were fantastic. We were raving about our dishes and decided to follow up with a sticky date and ginger pudding, however the dessert fell a bit flat for us. We were otherwise very pleased with our dinner and would definitely recommend The Fat Duck.

Came at happy hour in Spring (late Sept/early Oct) for cold drinks, a pot of tea, and without a doubt THE best fries I had in the whole country, and it wasn’t even close. Thick cut, golden-browned and delicious. Dinner was packed but happy hour on a Friday was very relaxed, though we got there right at the end of the live music set.

Terrible dining experience and overly salty food 👎 - The fried wonton was a disaster- it had two thick skins making it hard to bite into. The filling was drowned in hoisin sauce making it overly sweet and a gloppy mess. - The seafood chowder was a salt bomb with cheap unfresh seafood- we added lemon but it didn’t help cut the saltiness. - Popcorn chicken was overcooked and dry. The beef itself was cooked well but again the peppercorn sauce was unbearably salty- it was not edible. - smoked salmon was tasty and fresh but again the whole dish itself was too salty - The lamb was tender though tasteless and with the peas sauce it made it unappetising - The margarita was salt and water but poorly responded by the waiter who defensively said “well, we followed the recipe”- if you do not like feedbacks, why even ask? 👍 - the only decent thing was the fresh chips- crispy and well cooked

Te Anau Top 10 Holiday Park is a fantastic choice for campervan travelers or those on a budget. The park offers powered sites with plenty of sun, great facilities, and a cozy shared lounge with a fireplace for winter evenings. Additionally, reasonably priced cabins are available. Guests appreciate the polite and helpful staff, spacious accommodations, clean facilities including kitchen and dining areas, as well as tidy toilets with unlimited hot baths.
Sites are pretty little if you have a family and plan on staying for a while, but there is a playground for the kids. Just not anywhere to sit on your deck chair and read. Bathrooms are clean and great showers.

Quite disappointed with this superior top 10. Small sites. Reception did not have change for the laundry which was $6 each (more expensive than other places) and the dryer did not dry our clothes. Other places have offered coins at reception or had tap and go which is handy for overseas visitors. Disappointing when you are on holiday and limited time to do laundry. Just doesn’t compare to the other top 10’s we have visited.

I can’t express how amazing this holiday park is. The amenities are exactly what you’d expect for the price and location. Where Te Anau truly stands out from other holiday parks is the service from the staff. When Milford Road was closed, they turned what could have been a terrible situation into just another normal day. I genuinely believe they are simply good people. What they did for me is what they would do for anyone—and that kind of service is priceless. It’s something you rarely see anymore, and I’m still in shock that I stumbled into it. The front desk staff member, let’s call her Ms. B, new exactly what I needed before I even asked. I know how rare that trait is. Without her, the charm and quality of this holiday park would immediately drop. If the owner sees this, I hope you’re doing everything possible to make sure Ms. B and Ms. S (she’s also a treasure) feel valued and appreciated. Because I’ll say it again: they are the reason I book all my holidays with Top10. TL;DR – If you’re a good person, you’ll have a great time staying here.

Te Anau Top 10 is by far one of the nicest Holiday Parks I’ve stayed at! Even though there was a power outage during my stay, the whole team went above and beyond to make it a memorable experience. The owners even prepared breakfast and dinner for everyone who wanted to join. They managed to get the hot showers working again, made sure every guest had enough blankets, and kept a cozy fire going in the common room. Everything was clean and well looked after, and the shops and town center are just a 5-minute walk away. A big compliment to the whole team and the owners for their amazing effort and genuine hospitality!!

Te Anau, Lake

Te Anau, Lake is a picturesque destination with a charming township located right by the lake. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of the lake from their accommodations and take leisurely strolls along the waterfront area. The town offers various dining options and a large convenience store for essentials. It's also a convenient stopover for those en route to Milford Sound, with petrol pumps available. Additionally, visitors can embark on boat trips or seaplane rides to explore the lake further.
Walked a couple kilometers around the lake before boarding a catamaran for a ride across the lake to the Glowworm Caves. It is a beautiful lake with beautiful shorelines. Trail along the lake had some people, bit was not overly busy at 4 PM on a week day. A very enjoyable experience. If taking a boat across the lake, especially morning and evenings, I'd recommend a sweat shirt or jacket as it does get cool at 20-25 knots.

There is a nice walking path along the lake. It is usually a pretty popular place in the area, but doesn’t feel crowded. There are benches along the route which are a good place to enjoy a snack and relax. Nice lake to visit if you’re in the area.

Beautiful lake with neat beaches. There is a walking track as well near the lack. Many activities around this area. Also gift shops and cafes around. If you are driving to Milford sound, this is good place for a breakfast stop.

Good place to stop by if you are in the way to Milford sound. Few good restaurants at the place plus a large convenience store to get your drinks and other stuff. Small town with wonderful people. There are petrol pumps at the place and do stop by at few good photo taking spots while in the way to Milford sound from this place. Plan your lunch stop here if not staying at the place. We stayed two nights here to explore the place plus as our stopping place while visiting Milford sound. There is one birds sanctuary here to visit too and learn more about a rare species of bird.

This is a must see lake, which is easy when you are in Te Anau. There are boat trips and seaplane rides on the lake. These would be great on a nice clear day. The lake is about 400 m deep. The bottom is about 200 m below the sea level and the surface is about 200 m above sea level. With have a look at the lake by day and dusk.

Absolutely beautiful windswept & wild lake which happens to be the largest southern glacial lake. The walk on the foreshore in front of the small town of Te Anau is a must do. Lots of birdlife around now due to the vigilant trapping of predators. Then there is the small bird sanctuary about a km out of town which houses the beautiful & almost extinct takahe.

Fiordland Jet

Boat tour agency
Fiordland Jet offers thrilling jetboat tours on the Upper Waiau River, which runs between Lake Te Anau and Lake Manapouri in the heart of Fiordland National Park. The one-hour excursion provides a chance to explore the untouched wilderness while learning about the area's history and geography from knowledgeable drivers. Visitors are treated to exciting spinouts on the water and may even get to see filming locations from 'The Hobbit' movie.
We took a jet boat ride down the Waiau River with this tour company. It was a great experience. Our guide, John, was very knowledgeable and a really amazing jet boat driver. He would cut through areas that looked like there was no way a boat could fit through it. He would seem like he was going right at a branch in the water and then serve and just miss it. He did a lot of 360 degree spins, which were a lot of fun. He was also very funny and entertaining. He gave us a short walking tour through the jungle and told us different stories about the trees and birds in that area. We then biked back from the boat ramp area after the boat tour. All in all, it was a great experience and I would highly recommend this company to anyone interested in a jet boat ride.

Had the best couple of hours out on the water in a Fiordland Jet!! Lucy and Zane were fantastic hosts/drivers - highly recommended! Lots of stunning views and fun spins in an incredible part of the world ✨️

We had a fantastic time on the Fiordland Jet speed boat tour in Te Anau. The whole team was friendly, professional, and made the experience really enjoyable from start to finish. Our guide, Alex, was informative and engaging, we had a great time! She shared interesting stories about the land and made sure we felt comfortable and safe throughout the ride. The jet boat was exciting (360 spins and all 🤗), and the scenery along the river was stunning! When the engine was off we felt like we had the whole Fiordland to ourselves, such a surreal experience. Lucy, the operations manager, was super friendly and organized (she even gave us suggestions on other places to see and do!), and helped everything run smoothly. Chris (you'll know right away he's the owner 😄) was also around and it’s clear he takes a lot of pride in the experience they offer. This was a great way to see a different side of Fiordland and learn more about the region. Would definitely recommend if you’re in Te Anau and looking for something a bit adventurous but still relaxed and well-run.

Zayn was incredibly knowledgeable, fun and made my first jet boat experience a wonder! So happy we were able to book on short notice when the road to Milford Sound was closed - instead this experience of Te Anau is now a holiday highlight. Would recommend! The new mini bus to the lake was super comfortable plus they give you rain jackets, life jackets, beanies, gloves and sunglasses. Love supporting independent business. Thanks Amy and Zayne!

Our pilot Alex was great… they say that women are not good drivers, but trust me… the way she 360s is unique! Great fun! Well recommended activity here in Te Anau

We had a great time and the two hours of the tour flew by so fast! The river and the lake are very beautiful and the information provided by our guide Alex was very interesting and you could tell that she really enjoyed it. I was worried that I would be cold, but that was not the case at all! We got a jacket and a life vest it was really nice and warm under them. They also had sunglasses, hats, gloves and blankets for us. The spins were fun and not too crazy. Seeing a few Lord of the Rings filming locations was the cherry on top, but definitely not the thing that had it special. I would definitely recommend!

Outstanding experience from start to finish. From the welcome in the office by Alex to Zane's skippering skills, we had an absolute blast. The unexpected short walk on part of the beautiful Kepler track was a real highlight. If you're heading to Te Anau this has to be on your list.

Fiordland Cinema in Te Anau offers a captivating experience with its screening of Ata Whenua, a documentary showcasing the history and geography of Fiordland. The film captures the essence of the region's topography, wildlife, and local Maori stories. Visitors can enjoy a warm and inviting atmosphere at this cinema/bar while sipping on local beers and nibbling on delicious food.
Beautiful cinema, with a really classy and well stocked bar. Ata Whenua is a great watch on the big screen, and family back home will be blown away by the DVD. If anyone has had a better meal at a cinema/bar/restaurant anywhere in the world, I’d love to know where?? Fantastic, knowledgeable and friendly staff complete the experience.

Milford Road Merchant is a charming cafe and store located on the way to Milford Sound, offering delicious food and beverages along with a variety of souvenirs and gifts. Visitors can enjoy steak pies, burger pies, great coffee, and pastries while taking in the scenic views from the patio outside. The store also features locally made products such as lip balms, insect repellents, and natural sunscreens.
Best coffee in the town. Enough parking space. The coffee and service was excellent. Very friendly service, was there on a public holiday late in the afternoon, very jovial and friendly conversations. I believe they source milk locally and other products in the store. If you are in Te Ananu or passing by towards Milford Sound highly recommend.

Great breakfast spot! They serve up hot Sanga’s Pies which were apparently very popular, and has coffee that uses a unique milk which makes it all the more better. The pork belly pie we got was a taste we were pretty used to as Asians, since it’s a variant used in baos commonly. Coffee was good, flavourful and tasted a little different versus what we tried since they used a different milk. 🪑 there’s only 1 table on the indoors, but a long bench with heaters on the outdoors for those dining in! The service was really friendly in general too, definitely a great place to come by for a breakfast before heading towards Milford Sound!
YY — Google review
Delicious pies! We got the corned beef mustard peas pie, big brekkie (had an egg, mini sausage, hashbrown) and a cinnamon scroll. The pies were excellent. Not too oily or heavy and full of real chunky filling. The cinnamon scroll was plush and soft. Some space out front to sit if the weather is not too cold!

Stopped in for a coffee and a delicious scone both were excellent! The staff were incredibly friendly and made one of the best cups of coffee we've had in a while. We'll definitely be back!

Returning to give this place a 5 star review after our NZ trip as we can now say that they might just have the best pie and sausage roll in South Island. We tried famous pies from Fergbakery and Farlie Bakery and this was indeed better. The crust was flaky/ buttery and the filling (Chinese five spice pork) was just perfect - great flavors and super tender meat. Our favourite however was the sausage roll that was made in store. The dough was thin and meat well seasoned, juicy and generous. Will drive all the way to Te Anau again just for this. Highly recommend!! Only downside is no toilet here so you’ll have to find a public toilet a couple mins drive away.
Sylvia — Google review
Wow, what can I say. From the moment we stepped into this beautiful cafe, we were greeted with warmth and friendliness, from the staff and the heater! The pies were absoluty phenomenal, so good in fact I had two - the pork belly and the steak and cheese (steak and cheese just edged out the pork belly but both were to die for). The coffee was also great, probably the best I've had since roadtripping NZ for the last few weeks! The pies and coffee were that good we had to make a second stop after our three day hike! Upon getting my second coffee on our most recent stop I had a conversation with the cafe owner who was very friendly and kind, as were all the servers and baristas. I could not recommend this cafe enough, you won't be disappointed! Anyone who gave this place less than a 5 star review was obviously having a bad day and google should delete their review immediately! (Disclaimer: I was not paid for this review - just a happy customer ☺️)

Pastries, pies, coffee & boutique grocer items. Reasonably busy for morning coffee orders. Mocha & Latte was ok. Seating predominantly outside in the cold except 1 high table for two inside. Friendly customer service.
K.J.P — Google review
I absolutely recommend this place – I actually had to go twice because it was that good! What won me over? The amazing mocaccino (i' m loving it!) and the delicious baked goods. I tried the cheese pretzel and the minced and smoked cheese pie, and both were fantastic. The warm pretzel was my personal highlight: it’s not only covered with flavorful hard cheese on top, but also filled with soft cheese in between. Especially when served warm – simply brilliant! For me: 10 out of 10 – top spot!

Fiordland Outdoors offers stress-free transport packages to the Great Walks and beyond, including boat, bus, car, or air options. Their seamless booking system makes it easy to get in and out of Fiordland without worrying about the logistics. Customers have had great experiences with their services, praising the convenience and timeliness of transportation to and from popular destinations like the Milford Track. The water taxi service is particularly convenient, providing quick access to key locations for hiking and exploration.
5/5 Fiordland Outdoors were great, reliable and very accommodating. We didn't have to worry about transport to and from the Milford track at all because everything was very well planned. They also allow you to request airport pick-up/drop-off which is a big plus. Everyone was super friendly as well. Will definitely be booking with them in the future!

Really easy to book online with lots of info and a reminder email. Great friendly water taxi driver, no waiting. The day walk up to the waterfalls on the Milford Track were ok but at $65 to access the track, I would consider finding another short walk.

The journey to Milford was smooth and save! They replied fast to all the emails and questions even on weekends. The skipper Sam was very friendly and communicated well to everyone. Water taxis were well maintained and prompt on the Milford Track sojourn. Drivers were friendly and helpful beyond the scope of their duties. (I.E. Calling the Milford Shuttle to pick us up) VERY RELUABLE. Great value for the fee. Website well designed and easy to navigate. Skipper of the water taxi found and returned my trekking poles after id left them on the boat🥰

Fiordland Outdoors - Great place to start your planning to do the NZ best hikes in Southlands. Fiordland outdoors helped me plan my entire running/hiking in Southland/Fiordland. I managed to tick off Milford track, Kepler & Routeburn tracks within a week time with the help of Fiordland Outdoors. The logistics - water taxis, bus connections & guidance is great. This includes their great connections with other organisations who offered services on tracking devices, car relocation etc. I am greatful to enjoy my trip without having to think too much about the logistics. Thank you.

Fiordland Outdoors made it very easy to go on the beautiful Kepler track for just a day. I left at 8am and went up to the Mt.Luxmore summit and came back on the 4:30pm. Super cozy atmosphere and the girls working there are amazing! 💕 Homebake carrot cake and berry brownie are delish if you’re for a sweet treat, the hash stack was super yummie! Great for brekkie or little arvo tea in the sun! Hands down best coffee shop in town ✨

We ordered breakfast for four and the service was really good and quick even though it was very busy. Food was excellent and very satisfying portions. Cafe was very clean and has a really nice quirky feel to it. The only reason I am giving 4 stars for atmosphere is because there isn't much seating indoors and you don't want to sit outside in a very cold, windy and rainy weather. Locals say say it rains 4 days out of 5 which I am honestly just taking their word. Free parking available easily and its a very convenient location and food is really good any time there. There are vegetarian and vegan options as well, they even try to customise the request as best as they could. My daughter had bagels with cream cheese and berry jam and said thad they were the best. Overall very happy to visit again which we did the next day🙂

Locals told us this is the best spot in town. I believe it. We visited 3 times in our 2 days! Highly recommend the steak sandwich and hash brown stack. Food and drinks come out reasonably fast especially for how busy it was every time we were there. Really lovely staff. D was our favourite. You need to collect own water/ cutlery inside, that’s the only reason for not giving all 5 stars for service. Outdoor seats were comfy and spacious, choices of in sun or shade with umbrellas. With nice views of the mountain over the carpark.
Taylah S — Google review
Amazing food and service at this cafe! We had the pasta, warm chicken salad, hash brown stack and the steak sandwich. Flavours were all on point and beautifully curated. An easy 5 stars, highly recommend dropping by when in Te Anau!

We stopped by with our guide to get some takeaway food. The food was delicious, but the service was a bit disappointing. Upon entering the shop, the counter staff immediately — and rather loudly — asked twice what we wanted to order, sounding rather impatient, even though there wasn’t a queue at the time. We barely had any time to look at the menu and felt rushed to decide, so we just picked a few items quickly. Even our local guide sensed it and apologised to us afterwards, mentioning that this usually doesn’t happen.

At most they under seasoned their pad see yew, pork ribs were a good portion I hope they continue with that. Larb was good also. As of 28/7/25 they don't deserve the bad flak.

We were hungry and looking for an Asian restaurant …. Search on google suggest Thai Anau and we went in to try… food was decent … ingredients was fresh… staff was helpful. Stir fried spicy vegetables was good… curries come with rice. Decent Thai food, a little dark on the interior of the restaurant, with a friendly staff manning the restaurant. 🍚 basil pork rice was decent, it was a good portion and was quite flavourful 🍲 tom yum soup was comforting, enjoyed it after the first sip and continued a few mouthful after - there’s also a generous portion of prawns which are very fresh too Price was affordable too, definitely a place to stop by if looking for something comforting.

Excellent service, but the food is just okay. Friendly staff, but the dishes felt very average and not very authentic Thai. Given the few options in Te Anau, it's a passable spot if you're hungry, but don't expect to be wowed by the flavour.

Been there once because I was in town waiting to go in Milford sound the next day. The food was sooooooooo good, delicious and amazing that I could miss the opportunity to come back the next day for more. Tucked away on the main street of Te Anau, Olive Tree Cafe is a charming spot serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the summer. The cafe's outdoor terrace offers a delightful setting to savor coffee on sunny days. Visitors praise its generous portions and quick service, making it an ideal stop for a satisfying meal before heading to Milford Sound. With new owners at the helm, the cafe has garnered acclaim for its tasty offerings like eggs benedict and burgers.
My partner and I stopped In for lunch today and really enjoyed eating here. I had the soup of the day (which was tomato and basil soup!) And my partner had the Fish and Chips. They were very delicious and well priced. The atmosphere in the Cafe is extremely homey and welcoming and the service from the staff was fantastic. They also offer delicious bubble Tea!🧋 I would highly recommend to anyone passing through Te Anau 😁.

The staff is very courteous and extremely cooperative. We loved the food and service so much that we visited the restaurant twice in 2 days. The garlic prawns were outstanding and very sumptuous as well. The grilled cod fish was good too. The extra sauces and chilli flakes added spice to the food and tingled the taste buds. The Boba tea was very special. Enjoyed it!

I happened to stop by The Olive Tree Café for breakfast, and it turned out to be such a delightful experience! The cappuccino I had here was honestly one of the best I’ve ever had – smooth, rich, and crafted with real care. The service was excellent from start to finish. The staff were friendly, attentive, and created such a welcoming atmosphere. It felt like more than just a café stop — it felt like a genuinely warm experience. What really stood out for me as a parent was how family-friendly this café is. My child was completely engaged and happy with the toys and playthings available, which made the visit so much more relaxing. It’s rare to find a place that looks after both the adults and the kids so thoughtfully. The café itself has a cozy, inviting vibe, with a sunny backyard that makes it a perfect spot to unwind. Their menu is also impressive, offering everything from bubble teas to homemade treats and hearty breakfasts. If you’re ever in Te Anau, I can’t recommend The Olive Tree Café enough. Great coffee, wonderful service, and a place where both adults and kids can truly enjoy themselves.

Excellent mushroom eggs benedict and chai! I might be biased since we had just finished hiking the Kepler Track and anything would have tasted good, but it was seriously delicious. I think I prefer eggs benedict on toast or an English muffin, but I'm glad I tried it on a croissant! Also, we sat by an outlet it was nice to charge our phones!

Had an amazing lunch here on my way to Milford Sound! Had their garlic prawns, and stir fry noodles with prawns. Special shoutout to Yuki, who listened to my crazy coffee/bubble tea idea and made it for me! It's an iced latte, with brown sugar jellies and some brown sugar syrup. It was AMAZING. If you want to order just say Areeba's special coffee🤪 JK.

I had a Chai latte that was just perfect, and I ordered a date scone. It seemed like they might have accidentally left it behind, so they apologised and brought it over. But, oh no, the scone wasn’t warm! They warmed it up again, and they were super nice about it. It wasn’t super busy, so I’m just guessing they might have forgotten about it! :-)

We decided to try Olive Tree Cafe instead of the more popular one listed in trip advisor. I had the full breakfast while my wife had the poached eggs breakfast. Decent meal, had the steak (it wasn’t ribeye though, it was scotch fillet) cooked medium-rare perfectly. Generous portions albeit a little too much potato! Mushroom sauce was delicious. Friendly staff!

We went for dinner over water weekend and the food was delicious. Only marked down on the service through no fault of the staff, but, the wait time for drinks at the bar was massive due to a function and busy weekend trade. Would definitely go back again and take the kids who were entertained in the kids play room.

If you’re not a member of the club you are treated like a leper. They say it’s for everyone but then treat you differently . In addition , they don’t service the bar often enough and you stand there waiting . The food is overpriced - even the member savings aren’t worth it and the food was just .. ok . There’s zero atmosphere for non members , just sit in a canteen like pool hall. Yes I understand it’s a licensing issue , but if you’re going to let non members in , treat them properly .

What a place, from the welcome to the continual support through our 2 night stay. This place is magical, value for money and so much to do for families. The hot tub and sauna were amazing with views of the lake as a mum with out her kids it was such a treat. It really catered to everything! Staff second to none - 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 thank you - see you again soon.

We stayed here for a few days to recover from the fast-paced life on the road in our van and take a relaxing break. Choosing Tasman Holiday Park was the best decision. They offer everything from unpowered sites to holiday apartments. The site is clean and well-maintained, and there's also a playground with a trampoline and a chess set. The highlight for adults: a barrel sauna, which is even included in the pitch price! Fantastic! You can also book hot tubs, all very private and perfect for couples looking to relax. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. Together with the family who run the site, you can see that everyone puts their heart and soul into ensuring every guest has a pleasant stay. We had a wonderful rest at this spa campsite and recommend everyone to spend at least one night here. 10/10

We stayed here two nights and had a fantastic time. The queen double room is great: it is spacious, the bed is very good, the shower is good. You can sit outside and inside. There is a table, a microwave and a fridge. The staff is very friendly. It is close to the town center, the waterfront and the RealNZ terminal. The atmosphere on the park is very pleasant. Highly recommended!

We stayed at a powered site. Handy location close to town, lots of kids play areas including a playroom indoors (great for the wet weather we had!). Bathrooms are serviceable but need a deep clean. Half the laundry appliances were out of service or didn’t work properly (eg they ate coins) - the reception staff did note they thought these were getting replaced soon but quite frustrating to have to navigate during our short stay. Staff were very friendly, there were a number of extra amenities on offer (pizza oven, hot tub, etc) and overall it was a good stay.

This was probably the best camp site I've ever been to. They've not only got great amenities and but put the customer first at every turn- creating a really warm atmosphere. FOR EXAMPLE: Staff were super pleasant. When we arrived, I think it was Justine who greeted us at reception. It was discovered that we had booked the wrong site so she happily moved us to a bigger spot that was more suited for our family at no extra cost. Mike, the Manager would walk around giving out free iceblocks on one day, free lollies the next... stopping to give time to anyone who needed it. Their showers do not cost like other campsites I've been to, and there are no timers- just an encouragement from Mike to enjoy the warm water. Everything was kept to a high standard. Highly recommend!

What an amazing holiday park! Really took me back to my favourite holidays as a kid. We had a powered site and it was busy but still felt spacious. Amazing that you can use the sauna included in the pitch fee (my part-Finnish partner was overjoyed!) Kitchens do get a bit crowded but again still manageable. Shelby & her husband at the front desk were so nice and gave us some great tips around the area!

Amazing staff to match an amazing campsite. Quiet during the day but feels alive in the evening. Perfect for families or couples. Ideal layover to or from Milford sound. A perfect campsite, which has every consideration included, from bbq to pizza oven to play area. It's even includes detergent in with the washing machines. We will be coming back.

We had a lovely stay at Te Anau Tasman Holiday Parks. When the road to Milford Sound was closed, we had to extend our stay and they kindly offered us the 3-for-2 nights deal, very thoughtful. The park’s central location is great. Showers are hot and powerful. The only downside was cleanliness: the ladies’ bathroom has a melted hair dryer (?) and leaking taps, so everything is always wet and the kitchen gets very messy after busy times. The washing machines include washing powder, which is convenient, but if you want to use your own detergent (like for wool), there’s only one machine available, so often you have to wait. Overall, a convenient spot with caring staff and a great location.

Fiordland Lakeview Motel and Apartments is a charming accommodation located right on the shores of Lake Te Anau, just a short walk from the town center. The property underwent extensive renovations in 2019, offering deluxe studio rooms with modern amenities such as large TV screens, electric fires, and coffee machines. The Tanara Studio Suites provide stunning views and well-equipped spaces, including fully equipped kitchens. Guests can also enjoy a coin-operated laundry and a BBQ area with lake views.
We had a 2 night stay in March so that we could do the Milford Sound coach trip with less hours on the coach than if we were doing it from Queenstown. The pick up was a short walk down the road. We loved our stay here, the view is amazing. Although we had seats right outside our room, we chose to sit in the front communal area, that had 2 small tables and chairs. We ate dinner there both nights, as why sit in a restaurant when we can enjoy this wonderful view. Absolutely loved it. Our room was on the ground floor in the original part, it was large, clean and comfortable. Lounge/dining with kitchen, a large bathroom that looked to have been modernised recently. The bedroom at the back, while a bit dated, had a large comfy bed. I have seen mention of noise from the above unit but we found it quite peaceful during our stay. The host was very friendly. We would definitely stay again if ever over that way again. A Beautiful place.

An amazing stay!! My partner and I travelled NZ for 3 weeks, staying in lots of different accommodation, and by far this one was the best!! The lady at the reception when checking in was an absolute gem, she was so helpful and we cannot thank her enough for helping us with our trip outside of the accommodation part!! Will definitely be back!! ❤️

We loved the attention to detail in the design, and care paid to the appointments of the room. Also nice to see natural cleaning products and facility for composting and recycling. The staff were so helpful and friendly, with spot-on advice for local activities. So nice to sip our wine in luxury at the end of the day with the sunset on the lake and mountains. Felt like a honeymoon. We'll be back for another! :-)

📣Amazing lakeview❣️ The apartment room is contemporary, spacious and clean. Heated bathroom floor is a plus! The bathroom comes with contemporary shower and bathtub. There’s an option for daily room service too. The best part is the total separation of the toilet and bathroom. Highly recommend this apartment stay!

We booked this hotel 8 months in advance of our trip. The dates of our itinerary changed around the 7th month mark. The only way I could re-arrange those dates was to cancel the entire booking and re-book (without speaking to anyone, it was all done online). We were charged close to $300. But re-book we did. Then 3 months before our scheduled trip my husband broke his ankle. So, we had to cancel again…another nearly $300. So, we paid this hotel close to $600 and never stayed there and never spoke to anyone. Calling didn’t work, I couldn’t get anyone on the phone. To say that their customer service is bad would be an understatement. Don’t stay here! There is zero flexibility.

Large, spacious apartment that was exceptionally clean and comfortable with lovely views. The owners were so helpful and went above and beyond anything I have experienced at other motels or hotels.

We loved our 2 night stay in Te Anau at Fiordland. The room had a fantastic view of the lake and was close to town. We did the Doubtful Sound cruise and really enjoyed that. Highly recommended. Note that the town of Te Anau is very popular with foreign tourists so we had difficulty finding dining options without reservations even as only a couple, so best to make dinner reservations during busy season.

We had a large modern room with floor to ceiling windows A gorgeous view of the lovely front garden and then the lake. Mod cons like, remote control blinds, fireplace and bean to cup coffee machine. Lovely host who takes pride in her hotel and interested in your travels. Free parking with one way in and one out.

Aden Motel is a charming 12-unit accommodation in Te Anau, known for its attention to detail and vibrant decor. The rooms feature colorful comforters, modern bathrooms, and artistic wall murals. Most units offer full kitchens for self-catering, with the option of using a barbecue during the summer. Additionally, the motel offers studio, 1-bedroom, and 2-bedroom apartments just a short walk from the lake.
Aden motel is a great place to stay, clean and rooms look like they’ve recently been renovated. We stayed in the king room, very spacious, 2 seater couch and 4 seat dining table and chairs, small kitchen. Comfy bed. Heater in the shower was appreciated. Easy parking outside room, lovely helpful manager.

Can’t fault this place . After staying at a disaster place the night before , we came to Aden where Irene is absolutely amazing and they have two gorgeous doggy’s roaming around . The room was recently renovated , it felt homely and was classy. We loved the extra touch of being shown the room personally and the aircon was already on as it was a cold day . The little extras were just wonderful . The coffee maker etc . Totally worth the price and can’t wait to come back

My husband and I had a great stay at the Aden Motel. From check in and being personally shown to our room by Irene and her cute little dog where she went through all it's facilities, through to checkout the staff were very friendly and informative on the local area. The bed was very comfortable, the shower powerful (big plus for me), and the small kitchenette was a great addition for us to prepare a simple breakfast, coffee's and to heat up some food in. The rooms themselves have more of a homely feel, which we really enjoyed, but if you're more into a cookie cutter - large motel/hotel style vibed room then this may not be the motel for you. Irene and her husband are so visably proud of their motel, and for good reason.

This was the best place we stayed during our trip. The owner was incredibly kind. We arrived very late that night and didn’t realize their front desk had already closed, but the owner left a light on for us and turned on the heater, so after a long, cold day, we could immediately rest in a warm and cozy room. You can tell from the little details in the room that they put a lot of thought and care into everything — we truly felt that they care more about their guests’ experience than just making money. And Molly (the dog) is super adorable. We will definitely come back again!

so where to start, calling the motel dated would be nice, shower run cold quickly during second shower each day, mold in shower, noise heat pump but not as noisy as the room next door heat pump. on the good side it was clean but 2 knives 2 forks etc nothing extra. overview far too expensive for what it was, and messages on the walls warning what not to do

Delicious meal with wonderful service and friendly staff! It was perfect after along day at Milford Sound. Definitely recommend here if you’re in Te Anau. We loved the spicy fried cauliflower and pork belly. Also great Chardonnay.

I absolutely loved this bar! I was so sad we ended up being in town while the chef was off (check the schedule if you're interested in meals), but their bar food was still absolutely fantastic. We had the fries and the portion was large, fresh, and very tasty. I cannot say enough things about their boysenberry sour. We got multiple drinks, that were all delicious, but that one was my favorite. The perfect amount of sweet and tart! We really enjoyed the way they were presented and watching them be made.

The venison was amazing as well as the appetizer we got. Drinks were on point as well. My wife has Celiac and had no issues at all with cross contamination. Staff were very helpful and attentive. The atmosphere is very good as well. I would recommend this place to anyone.

What better way to conclude a New Zealand getaway than with one of the finest meals and a stellar selection of local Pinot Noir? Black Dog is a hidden gem I might have overlooked if not for a local recommendation—and I’m so glad I didn’t. The venison was nothing short of exceptional—perfectly tender, expertly seasoned, and beautifully balanced. The staff's knowledge was impressive; they guided us seamlessly through their beer, wine, and food selections with confidence and expertise. If you're visiting Te Anau, I highly recommend securing a reservation at this standout spot.

👍 - Best lamb dish- it was cooked to perfect and perfectly paired with the cous cous salad and sauce - tender beef and fresh vegetables - delicious fresh fried cauliflower - fries with cheese on top was just perfect 👎 - gnocchi was undercooked and tasteless - churros was nice but most of it was overcooked and dry

We stumbled across this restaurant and we are so glad that we did. This is the best food my partner and I have ever had, so surprised that something so delicious was in this small town. We wish we could come back regularly. You have to try!

The chef is on holiday for 2 months BUT they still have a few nibbles available and thankfully they had the gluten free fries available which is exactly what we were craving. The service is friendly and very helpful, the lady behind the bar saw my partner was struggling to get wifi and she offered the password. The taste of the fries was honestly so nice, with parmesan cheese on fries it tends to be too strong and overtake the potato flavour but these have the right balance to them. They also come with 2 sauces (aioli and tomato) which is great because we didn’t run out of sauce like you usually do when you order fries elsewhere. Would come back and would recommend. Also the taste in music was perfect for a nice chill afternoon at the bar.

With small group sizes, comfortable transportation, and knowledgeable guides like Tania and Stephen, visitors can enjoy a relaxed and informative journey. The cruise on Milford Sound is a highlight, allowing guests to appreciate the natural beauty without feeling crowded.
Just got back from our Fjordland Tour to Milford Sound from Te Anau with tour guide Tania. Convenient pick up from our accommodation. Amazing goodies and lunch bag, home-made cake in the arvo. Loved the personalised nature of the tour. Small group so we could pull over in more places to catch the pretty scenery. The cruise was good as well - smaller boat so less crowded. Highly recommend booking with Fjordland Tours. Probably the best hospitality and tour guide I have experienced in quite some time.

Fantastic day out with our amazing guide Tania. Highly recommend staying a few days in Te Anau and visiting Milford Sound from here, a much more relaxed day having half the drive time from Queenstown! Huge thanks to Fiordland Tours and Cruise Milford for their exceptional service, 10/10 🙂

Absolutely awesome tour with Tania. She was funny, organised and got us to see lots of cool places. We particularly enjoyed the fact that she care so much for NZ wildlife, making sure everyone knew NOT to feed them, all those Keas are lucky to have such a strong ambassador! The Milford Cruise was also a hit! We were very happy to have decided to take the tour from te Anau and enjoy the ride instead of driving down to Milford ourselves. Thank you so much!

My wife and I took the Milford Sound Extraordinaire Tour from Te Anau and felt that it was an excellent value for our money. I realize this is a highly subjective statement, but having stress-free small bus transportation, engaged and engaging guide, plenty of stops along the way to soak up the views, a solid packed lunch, and a couple hour trip around the Sound made every dollar count. Our group size was just right and allowed for personalized service and conviviality. The weather turned out phenomenal, which won’t always be the case, but I am convinced that it would have been an excellent experience regardless. Tania, our guide, truly enjoys her work. And although she has made the run hundreds of times, she wasn’t locked on autopilot or reciting a script. Furthermore, we took her recommendations for a cellar door and lake cruise/farm show in Queenstown and have not been disappointed. The light pastry and tea on the way up was a treat, and our sandwiches were good quality with seeded whole grain bread and no shortage of lamb or chicken. I am also glad we took the tour from Te Anau rather than Queenstown, as it made for a perfect 8-hour day. Plus, Te Anau is a modest and comfortable little town, while Queenstown, while beautifully situated, is turning into Jackson Hole.

I had an exceptional experience with a tour organized by Fiordland Tours from Te Anau to the Milford Sound. I picked Fiordland Tours because of their small group experience which allows the guide to customize the tour on an ad hoc basis along the way based on interest and real time weather and traffic conditions. Of course with a small van rather than a big tour bus we were a lot more nimble as to where we could pull off the road for walks, pictures, and we were much quicker on bathroom breaks than those big bus tours. Our guide Jamie was wonderful. He knew the geography like the back of his hands and took us to several off the beaten path locations that are just beautiful beyond description. The cruise part of the trip was on a small shallow draft catamaran which the skipper was able to maneuver very close to the water falls to give us a better look. All in all it was a great experience beyond my expectations and well worth the price.

Perfect day tour to Milford Sound and back. Stephen our guide is an outdoorsy guy and had loads of stories and tips to keep us entertained throughout the scenic drive. Went on January 4th with my wife for our honeymoon. Our guide, Ross, was friendly and knowledgeable. He was able to share a lot of insights about the area during our trip to and from Milford Sound, including our hike. Provided ample opportunities to stop and check out different sites. During the boat tour, we had the opportunity to see dolphins, seas, and lots of different waterfalls. Would highly recommend this tour. It was a nice break after driving for several days. We left from Te Anau around 8am and came back to our lodge around 4:30pm.

Our family had the most wonderful experience with the Trips and Tramps tour to Milford Sound on February 18. One of the highlights of our trip was our incredible tour guide, Jacob. He was nothing short of exceptional. He was polite, upbeat, extremely knowledgeable and passionate about New Zealand and Milford Sound. He was also fun, funny, accommodating and a terrific storyteller. He made the whole trip absolutely delighted. We could not have asked for a better experience. We are so grateful for Trips and Tramps and so thankful to Jacob!!

We toured Milford Sound from Te Anau on a glorious sunny day after rain all night. Mel was our awesome guide, driver, and friend for the day. We lucked out and got a private tour, just the two of us and Mel, as busy season hasn’t quite begun. Mel was full of interesting information and stories, and a terrific guide. We tramped 11 km after a scenic drive and short boat ride, with a substantial picnic lunch as a reward. The Milford Sound cruise was beautiful, with a special treat of seeing a few penguins.

We had a great experience with this company. We went on the Milford track guided walking tour to Giant Gate waterfall. They picked us up right on time and drive safely to Milford Sound. Our guides were Melanie and Ben. They were very funny and knowledgeable. We hiked at a nice pace and they even made us coffee when we reached the waterfall. We then took a boat tour through the Sound where we saw dolphins right off the ships bow. It was an amazing experience. The lunch was delicious and there was plenty of food. We would highly recommend this company!

Chinese restaurant
Ming Garden Chinese Restaurant is a surprising find in the small town of Te Anau. Despite being the only Chinese restaurant in the area, it offers authentic and delicious Chinese cuisine. The roast duck is a standout dish with crispy skin, tender meat, and a flavorful sauce. Other notable dishes include stir-fried ho fun, egg fried rice, salt and pepper prawns, and black pepper venison.
The food was quite delicious, lots of options. I especially loved the dumplings and the tofu. The staff was really nice, but when we went on Christmas day it was definitely quite busy, so service was a bit slower which was understandable. HUGE amount of seating, there's like 3 different rooms of tables, all with Lazy Susan's, which was very nice.

Seeing the huge lobster 🦞 in the water tank made me salivate and motivate to earn for my craving. The young and pretty lady boss suggested to prep in 3 kinds since it was a 3kg huge monster - first dish in Sashimi, another with onions and spring onions, lastly with Salts and Peppers. Paired it with a white wine from Marlborough (NZD10). Suggest to order a whole bottle at just $25. I can’t ordered another glass or bottle as I’m not a good drinker. Suggested by the waitresses to come before or after the tour group guests so the restaurant won’t be too crowded or a long wait for your orders. The waiter from FuJian and the waitress are kind and helpful. Glad the restaurant employs good and hardworking employees. Allows takeaways and restaurant close at 9pm. Opens at 5pm thus good to have a walk or jog the track or head for the Doubtful cruise before your dinner.

A decent chinese restaurant in a quiet town - one that is patronised by a lot of mainlanders, evident by the usage of Mandarin storewide. 🍗 the hotplate sizzling chicken was pretty good, well marinated and coated with some sort of flour to make it tender and soft, though slightly too salty 🥬 the french beans were a good portion, good with no complaints 🐖 sweet and sour pork was pretty mixed, we liked that the pork meat is substantial and not entirely made of fats, but didn’t like the sauce at all - too starchy and was a little heavy handed on a particular taste Overall, it’s still a decent spot for some chinese food - no red flags nor rave about them.

A very decent Chinese in the area! We had the pork dumplings that were delicious rice and sweet and sour pork + lemon chicken. Food was tasty and hot, came quickly despite being a busy evening. The menu itself if you are English speaking is very funny the translations are completely off and the pictures do make you laugh, especially the chicken page shown in my photos below. Do love a bit of entertainment with dinner!

We dined here after lunch hour, the place was quiet. The table service was great and the food was delicious. The portions are very much enough for the two of us. We would highly recommend this place for good chinese dishes. Plenty of parking spaces around the area.

One of the best Chinese restaurants in the town of Te Anau. Authentic and highly delicable. Waitress is nice and recommends dishes based on the chef and the waitresses own experience. If I come back to New Zealand I would visit this restaurant again, along with many other Chinese restaurants in New Zealand such as Auckland, Wellington, and Queenstown. Also, New Zealand foods are considered fresh and organically real. That is true, and the waitress said it correctly. Ma ta ne

We were surprised to find really great Chinese food in Te Anau. Unassuming restaurant, very spacious seating areas and excellent food. Service was incredibly quick, food came out fast. Tofu was delicious and we also really enjoyed the venison. All meat was tender and flavoursome.

Our family came visiting from Asia so we might have some expectations. We read the roasted duck is recommended. It was served with feathers not completely removed. Also im pretty sure we were not served half of the duck as we ordered because some parts of the drumstick was not there. Personally I couldn’t get myself to eat it seeing those feathers anyway. We wouldn’t say we will come back.

Redcliff Restaurant and Bar is a laid-back establishment that offers upscale New Zealand dishes and local wines, along with live music for entertainment. The restaurant has gained recognition for its delicious food and welcoming bar atmosphere. Situated in an early settlers cottage near Lake Te Anau, the rustic ambiance is adorned with local memorabilia from Te Anau, Milford Sound, and the Lord of The Rings movies.
Absolutely loved our meal here! The atmosphere was quiet and the part of the restaurant we sat in was so pretty and cozy — we even had blankets and a heat lamp for our table. The food was phenomenal. My steak was cooked to perfection, the chimichurri was so flavorful yet not overbearing, and the salad/greens on the side were addicting. I also tried the pork belly and it was delicious. The soup appetizer filled my soul. The only tiny bit of criticism I have is that the goat cheese profiteroles were extremely over-salted. Other than that though, everything was incredible. Redcliff was the perfect conclusion to our time in Te Anau!

I have eaten all across the world, and this has to be one of my top ten meals! The atmosphere was absolutely divine. The front is a cozy bar with snacks and live music, but if you continue to walk through the rustic barn, you’ll enter into the gorgeous, cozy restaurant. Female and locally owned, this family run restaurant serves exquisite meals made from fresh, locally sourced produce. The venison was cooked to perfection and paired perfectly with the coal Pitt Pinot noir. The meal was made even better when the host/daughter (and soon to be owner) informed me part of the meal was updated because her sister loved creamed cabbage, so her mum (the chef) was inspired and added it to meal! I wish I had more room because I would’ve loved to have ordered every dish on the menu! I felt right at home, hearing stories of how the restaurant came to be, how it has evolved over the years, and the future plans the family has for it. Each of the staff delivered service with great care and you could feel how each customer was truly enjoying themselves. I will definitely be back and I couldn’t recommend this place enough!

What an adorable and warm establishment! I visited in early November 2025 and although I could not get a reservation at the restaurant (through nobody’s fault but my own due to poor planning) the staff was very friendly and directed me to the bar menu. The very friendly barman also helped me choose a nice local alcoholic ginger beer on tap and the Game Platter. It was tasty and quite a lot of food because it’s intended for two; the lovely server gave me a to go box upon request. I enjoyed the chatter and vibe so much that I took a stroll along the lake and returned again the next day (today, a Friday) for a pint of something different. They were equally as warm and helped guide me to a different local beer on tap that I enjoyed, and I enjoyed passing time in the atmosphere of the local pub on a Friday night. The food and drink was well worth the time and money but for me it was the staff that made the experience memorable.

I don’t normally leave reviews, but I felt this one was worth reading. I had high hopes for Redcliff Bar and Restaurant after seeing so many positive reviews, but my visit was extremely disappointing. After receiving my meal, a dark-haired waitress came over and asked how everything was. I told her honestly that it was woeful — she laughed, not realising I was being serious, and simply replied, “That’s a shame.” That response really set the tone for the rest of the experience. I ordered the ribeye steak, which was poorly cooked and lacked any real flavour or sear. When I later spoke with the chef — a man in his mid to late 20s — about how it was prepared, he explained that it had gone straight from the fridge onto a pan that clearly wasn’t hot enough. He didn’t seem concerned about this at all, which was quite surprising. It made me think there may have been a different, more experienced chef here in the past — possibly explaining the better reviews from before. The staff were polite enough but seemed untrained and unfamiliar with the menu, unable to answer basic questions about the dishes. The owner arrived toward the end of my visit but unfortunately didn’t seem particularly concerned either. When I mentioned how poor the meal had been, she didn’t believe it could have been that bad, and only then explained that the ribeye I’d been served was from a different region than the one listed on the menu — something that was never mentioned beforehand. Overall, the experience was woeful. Between the poorly cooked steak, lack of staff knowledge, and indifference from both the chef and owner, Redcliff fell far short of expectations. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend it based on this visit.

An absolutely fantastic dining experience! The food was outstanding – we had steaks, venison, and salmon, and every dish was cooked to perfection. The flavors were rich and well-balanced, and you could tell the ingredients were top quality. On top of that, the service was excellent. Our server was incredibly attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, making sure we had everything we needed and offering great recommendations. It’s clear that the staff genuinely cares about creating a memorable experience for their guests. Highly recommend Redcliff Restaurant to anyone looking for top-notch food and exceptional service in the area! We will definitely be back.

Warm n cosy on the wet night we went. Book as even on a wet week day they were full, and we only got a table as we booked the day before. (Inside if raining or cold is best - close to fireplace is also where live music is) Fireplace. Fine dining . Good live guitar music.

Caution, the portions are big! Good thing we only ordered 2 mains (osso bucco and steak) and a salad. But hey, if you're hungry, go crazy. The taste was really on point, but the sauces really stole the show. Oh and finished with a sticky date pudding. Definitely give it a try.

We went here for a slightly upscale dinner during our trip. The food had pretty presentation and the servings were large. They did have an outdoor seating area although we ended up sitting inside at a small table.

Indian restaurant
If you find yourself in Southland and are craving a delightful culinary experience, look no further than Radha's Indian Restaurant. This gem offers an authentic taste of India with a menu that features certified halal meats and traditional Tandoori-cooked naan breads. Whether you're dining in or opting for takeaway, Radha's caters to your needs after a long day of exploration. Many visitors have raved about the quality of food at Radha's, especially after longing for Indian cuisine during their travels.
They have amazing Vegan curries (the best we have had) so we got take away almost everyday while we stayed in Te Anau between hikes. Highly recommended.

I recently dined at Radha’s and had a great experience. Their prawn biriyani, kadai chicken, and naan were super authentic and tasty. The person who served us was so friendly and welcoming. Definitely a must-visit!

Best Indian food I have ever tasted!! The service is really patient and observant. You have to order the garlic cheese naan bread and whatever main you take it’s fabulous. Must try

Excellent food, my husband was craving for Indian food, and we found this restaurant. I believe there are no other Indian restaurant around. We tried chicken tikka, chicken korma and kadhai paneer was delicious, also tried raita which was not so good it was sweet my opinion it should be savoury. Other than that food was delicious. I loved indoor decorations took me back to my country.

Wow, this was really good Indian food. I ordered butter chicken and my husband ordered madras chicken, both were excellent. The staff was kind and prices reasonable. Thank you for a great experience in Te’anau.

Good food and service here. Probably not many Indian restaurants in this area. The server was honest when asked for his recommendations, such as the biryani not being the authentic Dum style and that the butter chicken was sweet (to suit the Kiwis) and that the spice levels could be altered to Indian styles if required. The food arrived pretty quickly and was fresh and hot. We tried the garlic naans, dal makhani and chicken tikka masala. Give them a go!

Restaurant
Naturally Fiordland is a charming eatery in Te Anau that offers delicious food and a cozy atmosphere. Visitors have praised the generous serving sizes, flavorful pizzas, and accommodating service. Despite some comments about slow service due to staff shortages, many patrons appreciate the inviting rustic decor and friendly staff. The menu features delectable options like vegetarian pizzas and specialty dishes such as "The Local" with chicken, bacon, Camembert, and cranberry sauce.
Went in without looking at the reviews, and it's a good thing we did! Was pleasantly surprised by the food. Our server was very polite. The food took about 20 minutes to arrive but was quite good. Pizza fresh out of the oven, good pasta, and a filling salad. Charming atmosphere. Give this spot a chance!

We had dinner and it was delicious. I had the pasta and my fiance had the pizza. Serving sizes were large and the pizza had ample toppings. Owners were lovely and service was wonderful. Not sure how this place has so many bad reviews. Food came out within 20mins so there wasn't a long wait of 1hr plus like everywhere else in town. Loved the decor, alot of thought has gone into giving it a lovely rustic homey feel. We will dine here again if we pass through Te Anau in the future.

Absolutely waste smell so bad this pasta spend 56$ 20$ kids pasta bolngse, a small four slice pizza for 21$ and ice cream sundae jst a scoop of ice cream and cholate syrup for 6.50$ each don’t recommend this place better buy subway instead

$100 for 4 small pizzas, 2 small apple juices and 2 ginger beers. The pizzas were very small as you can see in the images, toppings were minimal, all 4 flavors tasted the same and they were all overcooked and hard. It was late in the evening when we ordered so ate them as we had been traveling all day.
Morgan J — Google review
I'm thankful that one restaurant was open at night that had a semblance of vegan options? However, they don't even have vegan cheese for their veggie pizzas, the almond macaroons were stale, the apple crumble pie was microwaved and basic, and the vegan snickers bar was good as it is in literally every single store with vegan options in all of New Zealand. The food took a long time to come out and was very overpriced. Plus, there was a random framed picture of two women making out in bed in the hallway to the bathroom, so that seemed very unwarranted, inappropriate, and out of place.

We decided to give naturally Fiordland a go after lining up at the ranch and another Italian restaurant which both said to us the food would be a 1 hour wait. We were able to order immediately at Naturally Fiordland although they don't take pay wave, this is strange for 2022. Ordered a small Honolulu pizza and the small Hunters pasta. Waited over 1 hour for the food. By the time our food arrived we were regretting not waiting at the other two restaurants instead. Pizza was passable and pasta was similar to what you'd get following the recipe on the back of the pasta packet. The atmosphere would have been better if cutlery wasn't self service, payment via paywave as an option and if there wasnt a clothes drying rack for drying dish towels in the dining area. Given the large number of other negative reviews I would hope management would try to seize the opportunity to improve.

Think there has been a change of staff as they were friendly. Service was solid. Pizza was quite good, crispy crust. Unless you eat like a bird you’ll want to have a large pizza, which may not feel worth it considering the price but it was a good pizza. Garlic bread was so-so, just oil and garlic slapped onto a small pizza crust. Pineapple was hastily tossed on to one of our pizzas

PLEASE DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE ATMOSPHERE OR THE FACT THAT ITS CROWDED. We feel for the good smelling pizza and the fact that we had not eaten all day. This place took over an hour for one pizza and Calzone. Horrible wait Time. I mean at least let us know before we order that it’s gonna take about an hour. But no such thing. We still had a 2 hour drive to queenstown after this. So of course we are not driving back in the dark 2 hours behind schedule! Thanks a lot Naturally Fiordland! Also pizza was not that great. Don't get the garlic bread. Looks like a frozen piece of cheese bread. 🙄
