Waterfalls
Bridal Veil Falls, located in the Wairēinga Scenic Reserve near Raglan in the Waikato region of New Zealand, is a magnificent 55-meter plunge waterfall. It is the only one of its kind in the North Island and offers four lookout platforms for visitors to enjoy stunning views. The easily accessible track to the bottom of the falls takes about 15 minutes and is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
A short walk (less than 30 minutes) with absolutely stunning views, totally worth it. Even our group of three girls, who rarely go for walks, managed it easily! It’s suitable for all ages, including kids. Highly recommended. Wouldn't recommend going on a rainy day or the day after it rains, there are lots of puddles and your shoes will likely get pretty muddy. I went on a muddy day myself, but no regrets!
ALEX — Google review
A family friendly, well maintained walk. The first section of the trek takes you through lovely native bush and you come out at the top of the falls with 2 viewing platforms, you can then walk down the stairs to a mid-way viewing platform and then right to the bottom.
Zoe H — Google review
Beautiful place to visit! It’s about a 10-minute walk to the upper lookout, and another 10 minutes (around 250+ steps) to reach the base of the falls. Totally worth the effort the views are stunning from both levels. A great reminder of how incredible nature is and the wonders it creates. Must-visit spot if you’re around Raglan!
Muhammad R — Google review
Absolutely stunning place to visit! We went to Bridal Veil Falls with family and kids, and it was an unforgettable experience. The walk to the falls is easy and beautifully maintained, surrounded by lush greenery and peaceful nature sounds. The viewing platforms at different levels give breathtaking views of the waterfall — truly picture-perfect! It’s safe and family-friendly, with plenty of spots to stop, rest, and take photos. A must-visit if you’re exploring the Waikato region — nature at its finest!
Dancho J — Google review
Beautiful falls. Nice view from bottom. Can be slippery in rainy season. Prefer not to swim. Power of water is unbelievable. Small falls but very attractive. Must visit.
Parbat S — Google review
Nice place. Only a 5-10 mins stroll from the car park. There’s 4 different viewpoints, the bottom one is probably the best but it’s 235 steps down and back up again, although not overly strenuous. Waterfall was raging after all the recent rains.
Richard C — Google review
A lovely and easy walk thru the trees to the top of the falls. Moderate fitness if you are taking the steps going to the bottom of the falls. We went 1/2 way to the middle look out. A great view.
Craig G — Google review
This place is quite the gem and one of the highlights when visiting Raglan. A short relaxing walk through the forest followed by an option to view the waterfall from 3 different vantage points. Getting to ground level will be challenging for those with physical limitations as it’s a steep decent and climb back up to the car park. Viewing it from the top is already very majestic. Going to the base of the waterfall is definitely worth the effort if you are up for it. I got a good appreciation of the size and beauty of the waterfall from there. Highly recommended if you are in the area.

Raglan Holiday Park

RV park
Raglan Holiday Park is ideally located near the water and Raglan township, making it a convenient choice for visitors. The park offers a variety of rooms suitable for individuals as well as large groups, ensuring that they can accommodate different needs. While the group accommodation is perfect for family functions, there were some issues with unexpected extra guests not being catered to. Despite this, the staff were helpful and the facilities were modern and well-maintained.
Awesome stay. Location, staff, cabin, the whole shibang was top service at a very affordable price. Staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. My toddler had a blast on the camp site playground too (particularly the giant trampoline), and made lots of new mates. Thanks a lot!
A K — Google review
The whole experience was excellent. Easy to book on line, and as we were on a caravan site, and our friends were in a cabin they ensured we were quite close together. The shower pressure the best we have experienced in the ablution blocks. Everything was meticulously clean, and staff friendly and helpful. An excellent facility, and a 15min walk to town.
Mike R — Google review
We stayed for only one night in our campervan. All facilities were very well maintained and and kept clean. During our stay we had an unfortunate incident which our van key sanpped in the door of the van. Gillian at reception was more than helpful. She helped call local services who could help and told us not to worry about checking out late. Very helpful staff at this campground! Dan and Anna.
Daniel A — Google review
A really great experience. A friend and I only camped for 1x night, but we were impressed with the facilities, location and the friendly staff. Only stink thing was our early start (5am) and the kitchen being locked! No complaints however, so still 5/5 🙂
Jenna R — Google review
Location is good and convenient. Toilets are clean as well as their kitchen area. I would definitely recommend to have a small shop inside as they have big camping area and holiday park
S U — Google review
Really well run site. Spacious campervan parking, on grass but it held up well to all the rain. Big clean bathrooms, kitchen and laundry. 5 mins hot showers which were good. Even have number plate recognition for getting in and out. Short walk to town across the bridge although this can be dark and wet depending on the time. Recommended
Richard C — Google review
Friendly helpful staff. Clean amenties, showers were very clean, water pressure and temperature bloody awesome. Safe n secure feeling..

It is a beautiful place with a beautiful view, in the food court they have green grapes hanging everywhere, it is beautiful. The food is very tasty and the portion fills you up quite a bit. It also has an outdoor play area for children and adults, it is really very relaxing and peaceful. I recommend it.

Great food, friendly service and perfect for families. A great spot on the outskirts of Raglan with an awesome indoor area with a small play area for the kids and a great outdoor space with a playground. We ordered the vegan gnocchi, beef burger and kids nuggets and chips - affordable and so delicious 😋

Great spot to have breakfast or lunch during the summer. Food was good, just could of done with a few more chips with the chicken burger. Service was ok. Could do with a little more variety on the lunch menu. Prices ok but a bit high on some items.

Food was great, staff were also friendly . It has three space for sitting. Indoor, patio/deck, and in open on grass. Good ambience, good music. Sometimes the order may get a bit delayed, may be it was one of those days when I was there, rest everything is okay and also it's a pet friendly place and reserve just 700 m from the place .

Ngarunui Beach, also known as Ocean Beach, is a stunning black-sand coastline located 5km west of Raglan town. This picturesque beach offers a spacious and tranquil setting with powerful waves that make it ideal for surfing, bodyboarding, and swimming. The beach is patrolled by lifeguards during high season, ensuring safety for visitors.
Great beach. Lots of room for everyone. Lifeguards on duty. Couple vendors on site to rent equipment for surfing. Go through the traffic circle and follow the one eay road around the curve and down the hill. Larger carpark is nearer the beach. Sealed walkway to beach. Important reminder posted for pet owners - hot sand burns your pet's paws!
David V — Google review
Beautiful black sand beach. Great shells and beautiful scenery. Nice rocks on the south end that create tidal pools at low tide. We had a great time exploring. Nice changing facilities, toilets, and showers at the car park and also down at the beach.
Jordan S — Google review
We visited Ngarunui Beach from Hamilton and it was absolutely worth the trip! There was plenty of parking which made things stress-free, and the beach itself was stunning. The ocean was so refreshing, the atmosphere so peaceful, it was exactly what I needed to unwind and clear my mind. An amazing spot to relax, recharge, and enjoy the beauty of the coast. Definitely recommend!
Leonita B — Google review
Amazing beach. You can do surfing and have a quite big car park. Dont stop at the first car park you see and go to the 2nd park. You can do surfing and sea bathing. I saw there is small place where they give surfing lessons with surf board
Malitha B — Google review
This is a stunning beach with its black sand and. on the day we visited, its wild surf. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great so didn’t get to spend as much time as we would have liked looking around.

Ngarunui Beach is a must-visit if you’re near Hamilton. This beautiful, well-maintained beach offers a clean and relaxing environment, perfect for unwinding. It’s also an ideal spot to catch a stunning sunset. In short, a fantastic place to visit!
Jhon G — Google review
Beautiful black sand beach and a great day trip from Auckland or Hamilton.
A — Google review
Absolutely stunning place! The view from the top has to be one of the best scenic landscapes for any beach in NZ IMO. There are multiple carparks here and the walk to the beach goes down via a tarmac rd so the walk back can be a little tiring if one is not used to climbing gradients. There were plenty of surfers here and from what I saw no swimmers, you would have to be skilled to swim safely at this time of year.

WYLD Raglan is a popular spot known for its delicious and diverse food options, making it a great place to visit with out-of-town guests. The restaurant offers favorites like mince on toast and green eggs bene, as well as tasty burgers. The service is friendly when experienced staff are on duty, and the relaxed interior exudes a Balinese or tropical island vibe. Additionally, WYLD is dog-friendly and provides water bowls for furry friends.
That is a fantastic eatery in the heart of Raglan shopping area. The staff was super friendly and the menu had many gluten free options and catered for our allergies requirements. From a food point of view, their bacon cheeseburger was so good that both my 13 years old and me had to repeat another day. My 16 years old has many allergies, loved the fried chicken. Their fries are seasoned with paprika that gives a fantastic smoked flavour! Recommended!

Our favourite spot! The most accomodating cafe for all; a true gem! We always feel so welcome and are truly looked after every visit; this mama needs her coffee and only the best is served here. (Thanks Janelle!) My little girl loves to visit all of the staff and we are always met with a smile! Thanks again WYLD, awesome!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely loved WYLD Café in Raglan! Ellen, our waitress, was super friendly and welcoming. The food, sticky chai, and overall vibes were fantastic, we even came back the next day! They catered to my dietary requirements with such confidence and kindness. I had the celiac-safe vegan burger, and it was amazing. There are so many gluten-free options, which makes such a big difference when travelling and wanting to feel safe and looked after. Thank you again to the WYLD team — we’ll definitely be back! 🌿✨
Danielle M — Google review
Lovely quirky place with very cheerful staff. Unfortunately, our takeaway coffee took almost 20 minutes to arrive and was only just warm when it did. While the relaxed atmosphere is part of the charm, the wait really pushed beyond what felt comfortable.
Alberto U — Google review
Hey! Waiting 30 minutes (and having to nudge a staff member) for a takeaway smoothie is actually WYLD 😩 Your smoothies are 10/10 but the service is so poor. I’m not one to do bad reviews but this isn’t the first time this has happened and I want to provide some process feedback so you’re prepared for the summer.

The Shack in Raglan is a popular dining spot offering locally baked Raglan Bagels for breakfast and their signature Chillicrunch Rice for lunch, featuring miso-fried brown rice with crunchy vegetables and zingy peanut chilli crunch.
My partner and I came here twice for brunch, the first time we both had granola, fruit, and yoghurt (pictured) and it was really good. The second time we had the zucchini fritters (also pictured) which was amazing and tasty. We also ordered lattes which was a nice, strong hug. The service was also great, the cafe is the busiest place in town but there's no shortage of very friendly staff.

Super helpful and friendly staff, it was very busy in the weekend. Dog friendly place. Special love their idea leave the coffee grounds out of the shop. Let people free to take for gardening. That's really cool. Coffee was yummy.
Nicole P — Google review
Yum yum yum. Great modern brunch. Go for the seasonal burrata with romesco and asparagus And the hash browns are killer
Kyle S — Google review
Honestly my expectations weren’t that high. A cafe in the sleepy surf town close to Hamilton at first glance offered a couple of basic bakeries, some with run-of-the-mill take out options and a pub. Stumbling on “The Shack” was a stroke of good luck sent from the Gods. The place has a “small town friendly” vibe, an eclectic menu of premium offering of deliciousness to suit any diet restricted or picky eater. There’s literally everything from Gen Z to Boomer catered for here… and the quality of food to rival any big city top 20 “must try” cafes. It’s a shame the view wasn’t the gorgeous raglan harbour, but then again… it if was, we probably wouldn’t have found it.
Thomas S — Google review
Service is amazing, the staff are so friendly and kind. The food is absolutely devine, they change it up frequently and the taste of every meal is like an explosion in your mouth. It’s pretty hard to find a good matcha latte around and these guys are up there with some of the best! Best cafe in Raglan by far 💛

Visitors appreciate the friendly service and great atmosphere of this unique sandwich spot tucked away in a charming laneway.
What a great find for a quick snack after a surf. Amazing service and delicious toasted sandwich. I had the pesto and mozzarella. Good value and a filling feed. Not a lot of seating but we found a table for four no problem. Easy takeaway option to go and eat by the estuary nearby.

I'm surprised there are no reviews for this tiny place at the end of the town. I had thee most beautiful fish & egg burger ever..cost $10 +$2 with an egg..but it was a larger size bun. My man had a BBQ beef burger & he loved his too..glad we didn't order chips as we were full just with the burgers. Highly recommend!!!

Had to wait over an hour for a burger and chip. The burger was amazing and the young Asian cook that’s there was really great, but the owner was really rude to people watched him watch straight past people with their orders that were clearly waving out to him and seen at least 5 people ask for refunds because it was taking to long. Plus she completely stuffed up one family’s order when they had been waiting over and hour and a half and they ended up walking out after not getting half of the food they had paid for
Jack A — Google review
Had to wait 1 hour & 20 minutes for food, would have no doubt been longer if I didn't query the bloke at the front who went out back and swiftly sorted it out. Appeared to have misplaced the order somewhere in the 4 feet from the counter to the cook. Happened to so many others waiting, was a shambles. The burgers were OK but were rather over priced. Will not be back.

Just came here for dinner due to Joe's being closed- wish we hadn't. Young girl on the front counter served us with a lollipop hanging out of her mouth and seemed like she didnt want to be there at all. Nice place to enjoy classic seaside fish and chips. We ordered 2 fish burgers for $16.50 each, 1 scoop of Beer Battered Chips for $6.30, 1 scoop of Regular Chips for $5.30 and 2 pieces of gurnard for $10.50 each. This is quite an expensive place for fish and chips however considering the rising price of Fish and Chips these days it’s nice to get a quality product for the price paid. Good atmosphere, friendly staff, could do with more seating considering the size of the area.

Lunch with a view! Locals and visitors to the area plotted around the wharf fishing, plenty of tables outside, inside and partial coverage here for some excellent fish and chips. Plenty of fresh fish options on offer, a fantastic 10/10 chowder, I had the baked Tarakihi and beer batter fries - AMAZING. The kids meal for $11 is sufficient too. Highly recommend - excellent team on deck too filleting on site, team cooking and serving. Solid location with a chill great vibe. Friendly, fast and fresh.

We had a really lovely lunch here on a day trip to Raglan. We had two hot dogs (these are actually proper pork sausages rather than frankfurters, dipped in batter, which we were pleased about as that's what we prefer anyway) and a portion of chips to share. Our food came out within about 10 minutes and everything tasted hot and fresh. The battered sausages were absolutely delicious and we really enjoyed our chips- they had a nice flavour and were seasoned well. Our bill came to $17 which we thought was really reasonable given the portion size and flavour. Would recommend!

Granted it was on a Saturday around 1pm but waiting 1hr 10mins for a mediocre fish burger, average chips and nice fish just doesn't present good value. I'd caution against getting caught up in the self-promoted hype of this place having the best fish n chips in Raglan and support a smaller little fish n chip instead. Just my honest 2c.
E T — Google review
Yup, a trip to Ragg’s is incomplete if you don’t do fish and chips on the wharf. Beer battered chip 1/2 scoop for $5 is the same portion size as a full one in town Fall apart, still taste the sea salt snapper crumbed or battered … sigh, heaven sent - fish and chips should be illegal to sell if it isn’t to this standard in Aotearoa 😎 Beautiful way to finish a winter morning sojourn 😍🤩

Best place I found to eat fish and chips here in NZ, so far. Nice spot with great view of the sea. Daily fresh fish with multiple choices: I advise to have a snapper.

Raglan Boat Charters - Whaingaroa Wahinemoe offers a captivating 122-kilometer coastline sailing experience. On the sunset cruise, guests can spot marine life and ancient limestone rock formations while listening to Maori legends near Mount Karioi. The tour includes Kiwi beers, wines, and fresh fish and chips as the sun sets. Visitors praise the informative commentary, friendly staff, and mesmerizing sunset views on this must-do New Zealand excursion.
The only thing bad about Raglan Boat Charters is that eventually it'll end and you'll have to go home - and that will be a sad time. Raglan Boat Charters is a great experience. The staff are amazing, friendly, informative, helpful, will bend over backwards to help you out or get you on a tour. We did the sunset tour on a perfect night and it was a blast. In a truly Kiwi experince, Fish and Chips were delivered before we left - the perfect entree to what was to come. We took a tikitour around the Raglan harbour where the sights were enjoyed and the history of the harbour explained. Birdlife was plentiful, as were the stingray! The Captain gave us a few of his secret fishing spots - but you have to do the tour if you want to find out more about that. As we cruised around, a wicked soundtrack of sing-along party hits played and created a really fun atmosphere. The cruise was more than 90 minutes - incredible value for money and an experience you'll be wanting to repeat quickly! 10 stars.

Had an amazing experience on the Raglan Sunset Boat Trip! The crew were super friendly and the captain was great guided everyone well, shared interesting history about Raglan, and even let us take photos while driving the boat. It was a bit cloudy, but still a beautiful and relaxing trip. It’s a great way to see Raglan from a different perspective and unwind after a day exploring. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Raglan!

If you're planning a trip to Raglan, the Whāingaroa Boat Tours' evening sunset cruise is an absolute must-do! We recently had the best time ever on this 90-minute tour, which is perfect for all group types. Whether you're with family, friends, or a special someone, this cruise has something for everyone. We brought our kids along, and it was the ideal way to create special family memories. The captain was fantastic – a good sort with a great sense of humor who expertly balanced sharing local history with playing wicked music that set the perfect vibe. We even made a stop to catch the breathtaking sunset, which was the highlight of the trip. Onboard, the fish and chips were delicious, and the drinks (including alcoholic options) were the perfect addition to the relaxing atmosphere. Plus, blankets were available for comfort, and there are toilets on board, making it a very convenient and enjoyable experience for everyone. Overall, this tour was the perfect way to experience the beauty of Raglan, and I can't recommend it enough. Whether you're a local or a visitor, it’s an experience you won’t want to miss!

Gutted as weren't able to see the famous Raglan sunset. Wasn't the crew's fault but that of the weather. The crew was accomodating and helpful. The tour itself was light and easy, learned a bunch of Raglan's history and story behind most of its spots and other fun tidbits. Ordered fish n chips along with the tour and would definitely recommend. Would definitely be back!

Nice relaxing cruise around the harbour. We had vegetarian lunch which was a very tasty spring roll, chips and salad. Various historic and landmarks were pointed out. The pancakes rocks we fascinating. The historic house we would like to go back and visit when it's a B&B.

Our group of 8 went on the sunset cruise recently. The skipper Barlow was fantastic - informative and very friendly. The lady at the bar (Mina) was delightful and very accommodating. We had had to cancel two people for our booking, and the process was very friendly and fast. We highly recommend this cruise as a great way to spend a couple of hours, get information on the area and see some very cool rock formations. Also quite cool to get close to the bar!

Such a fantastic day out on the water with Andy! He knows so much about the harbor and history. Really fun and fantastic. We brought our friends from overseas and they had a great time seeing the waterfall, Māori historic sites, and getting to walk along the amazing north head of the harbor. Plus, so easy to get off the boat to explore when he drives the Sealegs right up on the beach. Will do this again!

A Memorable Celebration at The Wharf Café I recently had the pleasure of hosting my partner’s 60th birthday at The Wharf Café, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the experience. From start to finish, PJ, the owner, went above and beyond to make the night special. His level of professionalism and dedication was truly exceptional. PJ was incredibly helpful in every aspect of the event, from assisting with shuttle arrangements for our guests to offering advice on the best setup for the evening. His generosity and attention to detail ensured that everything ran smoothly. The food was nothing short of spectacular. Each dish was beautifully prepared and full of flavor, leaving everyone at the party raving. A special thank you to PJ and his wonderful staff, whose friendly and attentive service truly made the night memorable. I was even able to decorate the restaurant the night before, which added a personal touch to the event. The entire celebration was a success, thanks to the incredible hospitality and support from PJ and his team. I highly recommend The Wharf Café for any special occasion — they made my partner's milestone birthday unforgettable. A huge thank you once again! Sheree and David

For the best seafood chowder we have ever had, it is a must try. Friendly staff, quickly seated, and orders placed. Meals were promptly served, it wasn’t busy to be fair. The meat lover’s omelette was excellent, the chowder was a standout. The 4 of us are well travelled and enjoy food. The recipe is a guarded secret. We understand why.

Absolutely amazing food and service! My husband and I came in for a booking at 11:30am, we were quickly greeted and shown our table, the staff were friendly and efficient, our drinks came quickly and our food order was taken not long after and any changes we made to the meal were noted correctly. The food came out hot and fresh, it was absolutely delicious. We will be coming back regularly.

We had an amazing family experience here. The service was outstanding from start to finish, making us feel truly welcome. The sirloin steak was cooked to perfection, tender, juicy, and full of flavor. It’s a lovely family-friendly restaurant with an incredible view, which made the whole evening even more special. Highly recommend for anyone looking for great food, warm hospitality, and a setting that’s hard to beat.

The food wasn’t great. I got the waffles with eggs and sausage. The sausage was the only hot thing on the plate. The waffles were so sweet, almost crusted with sugar, didn’t need any syrup. The eggs were cold and hard. Maybe too much vinegar in the water… my partner got eggs on toast with sausage and hash brown. Everything was cold, sausages cold in the middle. Food took ages to come out and we were the only people in the restaurant. 4 members of staff were trying to fix a gate, maybe that’s why it took so long. Defs won’t be going back. Go and eat somewhere like Wyld or the shack. Much better service and food quality.

Had a wonderful brunch here with the family – all four of us loved our meals. Great value, amazing service, and such a friendly, helpful team. They even brought a fresh pot of tea after I spilled some! Beautiful water views made it even better. Highly recommend!! 😊

Our first visit. I always shy away from places with extensive menus but I was nicely surprised. The fish was fresh and delicious, kids enjoyed their meals and milkshakes. Generous portions. Try and get sitting on the verandah overlooking water. Inside was a bit cold and hectic with people going in and out. The stuff is very lovely and attentive
Aleksandra M — Google review
Wasn’t the greatest. Requested outdoor seating they tried to sit us inside. Couldn’t cook the steaks to how we requested. Overall the food could’ve been better and was over price for what is was. They ignored us after making the complaint and brought the chef out to solve the issue. Which in my opinion is unprofessional. They tried to make up for it by giving free desserts which was nice but the staff really needs to work on their communication better. Probably won’t be back.

ULO's Kitchen is a vibrant Asian fusion restaurant located in Raglan, offering delicious dishes in a quirky space that also serves as a venue for live music and art. The restaurant boasts an awesome 60s/70s Japanese vibe and is known for its flavorful offerings such as Sriracha edamame, Yamitsuki crispy chicken, spicy sashimi, and Dan Dan noodles with juicy pork mince.
Loved the vibe of this cool oasis in Raglan. The kingfish Yasu Sasami was the absolute best followed by the very yummy margarita. It was a hard test for our mains to top the entrees. Bang bang prawns were tasty and ok Improved by adding some sirracha sauce. Loved Ulo, would recommend.

Ulo’s Kitchen was my favourite place in Raglan. Service Although it was fully booked Yuko managed to find us a seat. It helped that we were up for a quick meal. Staff were lovely and efficient. Food We tried to Mayorcha Salmon and a salad … both were soo good. Atmospheric! Loved the DJ and reggae vibes. As we were leaving a live band started. If Ulo’s was any closer to home for me, I’d be there weekly.

An awesome place to bring the kids! Fun vibe with swings, cool lights and bean bag chairs; my son was entertained the entire time. Menu was pricy, but most places in Raglan seem to be. Food was good but nothing fancy; and the cider shushies were delicious!

Fantastic food and fresh drinks. We ordered the fish and chips to share as it comes with 4 pieces of fish and a fair amount of chips. The fish was amazing and the tartar sauce was the perfect addition. We also split a cheesy garlic flatbread and finished our meal with a cinnamon sugar doughnut. We had some Good George slushie drinks and enjoyed the beachy atmosphere.

We pulled into Raglan late and hungry and stumbled into the nearest restaurant and so glad we did! Although it was cold and rainy, we were warm and cozy inside the patio which was bright with colorful lights. The swings looked like so much fun! Our host and server was engaging and brought our drinks and food quickly. The seafood chowder was delicious, but the pizza was the highlight with a perfect crust from the wood-fired pizza oven. And don't miss out on the signature dessert - can't go wrong with a donut and cinnamon and ice cream! Highly recommend!

Friday evening quick dinner at George's Beach Club. We had fantastic pizzas - really impressed with the light fluffy base on the cheesy garlic bread! Great seafood chowder with lots of fish, mussels and prawns and enjoyed the refreshing cider slushies. Initially seated at the back near the bathrooms, I asked for the staff to move us to another table and they were accommodating for us. This place has a casual, kind of homey feel but not much seating choice inside as most seating is outside on the deck. We tried the pizza, which is laid out in a glass case. You pick what appeals to you and they heat it up. It didn't look that appetizing but was actually pretty good. We did have a couple of issues with the place, the main one being that we were there on a very cold day, yet the large front entry, deck entry and another window were wide open. On top of that, there was no heater, so it was freezing inside! The other was this seemed to be the kind of place that's friendly to the locals but not so much to outsiders. We felt like we were intruding on the server while the locals coming in were warmly greeted. We tried to get gelato after our pizza but the proprietor was too busy chatting with the locals while making coffee; so we gave up and left. In all, in spite of liking the pizza enough, we would not recommend this place.

Great option for an "on the way" coffee. We have dine in and food is average. Mocha OK. However the customer service is not the best, once we were ready to order, the lady taking orders is a bit rude and doesn't make me feel welcomed at all. Not a HI or whatsoever. Just simply types in the order and that's it.

Came here because three travel places said it was The Place to go for coffee. We didn't end up ordering coffee but still enjoyed our drinks. The ice cream cabinet looks really interesting - with some unusual and yummy looking flavours, such as 'rice and cinnamon'. Most impressed with how cheap the coffee menu is! The water filter is nice and icy, just what one needs on a hot day. I would love to come back and try out the brunch menu. Thanks for a great experience!

Ok so I get that this is a nice fancy restaurant and has a great vibe, but there is one thing I have to say, is this place is a rip off. Dinner for two cost $65 and that didn’t even include wine. You spend $65 to eat a mediocre dinner, nothing delicious or near good quality to feel half full and poorly scrumptious. I would not recommend this place, rather go to the Sushi restaurant next door which has a much better selection, value, and vibe.
Bob G — Google review
Well over priced - my grandson got the meatballs, honestly there were 4 very small ones. I had the risotto smoked pumpkin with charred vegs- Risotto was a mash spread over the plate and the charred vegetables (like 4 or 5 pieces) were unrecognisable vegs. Not a great meal at all. Atmosphere was busy, but chefs dropping things in the kitchen on the floor more than once or twice.

The standout menu items include the beloved Pirate Chicken Pizza and the Supreme Pizza, which boasts an indulgent mix of cheese, bacon or ham, chicken pieces, and a distinctive mustard mayonnaise sauce.
One and only best pizza shop in Raglan. We had an amazing experience! The stuffed garlic bread was perfectly cheesy, buttery, and full of flavor – honestly, one of the best we’ve had. The paneer pizza was just as impressive – the crust was soft yet crispy, and the paneer was fresh, well-marinated, and generously loaded. Everything was hot, delicious, and clearly made with care. On top of the amazing food, the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming, which made the visit even better. Highly recommend this place – we’ll definitely be back!

The pizza base was nice and toppings were generous. I had a vegetarian pizza that came with avocado. My one critique would be that the avocado had been cooked with the rest of the toppings - which makes it bitter and therefore the pizza was not that enjoyable. I personally prefer avocado as as topping if it's added after the pizza comes out of the oven so it tastes fresh. It was easy to order online and pick up 20 minutes later. Would suggest take-aways as the indoor seating area could have a better atmosphere. Otherwise a fine experience :)

Don't know why this place has recent bad reviews. We were visiting from Auckland. Comparing it to Dominos is silly as they are two total different places. The ingredients here tasted better than Domino's. Had the supreme and chocolate dessert pizza. Supreme was nice with a good ratio of toppings and the dessert pizza also lovely. Front of house staff apologised for wait and we didn't wait all that long at all. You can also wait inside where it's warm. See you guys again on our next visit.

My experience at pirate pizzas was… alright. The entrance stated that it was a pirate pizza, so I thought it would be pirate themed. I was disappointed when I didn’t see a pirate themed pizza parlour. Though, there was a puss n boots hanging on the wall which was kinda coolio. The pizza came pretty fast, approximately a 15 minute wait. The bruda was staring at me tho and questioning my way of life so that made me a bit anxious. Overall I rate my experience at pirate pizzas a 67/69. Would recommend Adrian’s barbershop for anyone. Much love xoxo

If you are looking for clubbing this is a go to place .. the groove ,music and the beats will never stop your legs from moving.. the DJ’s are awesome.. sometimes if you are lucky the party goes on till late .. There would be a small cover charge for entry but it’s totally worth it .. there is good snacking options too .. overall it’s a very nice place .. did have a wonderful time and would recommend to check it out

Extremely long wait on Sunday afternoon. Four coffees all Luke warm. Burritos looked okay. Loaded fries cold, cheese not even melted after at least half hour wait. No access for my dad's wheelchair. Won't be visiting again sorry.

We went on a Wednesday and they had an open mic night which was awesome with many different acts. The potato curry was spicey but delicious. Only improvements would be the addition of a lager on tap and some cushion on the seating. Service was lovely.

Such a relaxed, friendly, welcoming space. Beautiful friendly, happy staff. And the wrap was one of the best! With hash brown and falafel. Easy 5 star for me xx

Very impressed! We had the crispy roast pork special with an ice cold pint of beer, and loved it. The pork was cooked perfectly accompanied by some fresh vegetables. Delicious 😌

Visit 1 over a weekend: Nice lunch with our parents. Bookings are often necessary. Enjoyed calamari (decent plateful) ceviche, garlic prawns and beef and cheese burger. Mojito didn’t go astray either. Lovely service and nice view by the window. Visit 2 - next weekend: Stopped in for lunch again. Not quite so great. Ordered a Margarita and the rim was sugared rather than salted. Shared a plate of the fish and chip meal - the chip portion was sadly lacking and the piece of tomato in the salad was microscopic ( the ginger dressing was very tasty) - this was a $31 meal. Very disappointing

What a lovely experience on a rainy day. Friendly staff happy for us to sit over a cup of tea while we waited for our friends. Fabulous seafood chowder. Highly recommend a visit to Orca. With a lovely view of the harbour this was the perfect place to meet friends.

My sister and I came to Raglan from Auckland for the weekend. We ate here for dinner on Friday, lunch on Saturday and back again for dinner on Saturday night. We sat in the garden area each time which was lovely and sunny. The food was amazing! We had: garlic bread, fries and calamari for Friday dinner, a beautiful broccoli salad and an aubergine stack for dinner, and finally the tofu dish and vege stack for dinner. All very yummy, great seasoning, spices and dressings. And just to be even more piggy than we had already been we got ginger crunch and cookie slice to take away 🐷 Would highly recommend! Thank you for a lovely eating experience while we were here 🙂

No experience is necessary, and expert interpretation is available on guided tours. The knowledgeable and friendly guides provide insights about local wildlife and history while ensuring a safe and enjoyable adventure.
What a fantastic experience this was. We were lucky enough to do this tour yesterday and even luckier to be the only 2 on the trip. Skye was a fantastic guide - giving us a great insight of Raglan and its history while we paddled along this beautiful coastline. The scenery was spectacular and paddling into coves and through the pancakes was a wonderful experience. Thanks Skye you made this experience very special for us.

We hired a double kayak on Sunday morning. Customer Service and briefing was excellent 👌. On our self guided tour we saw amazing limestone formations and wildlife: a school of fish, a stingray, kingfishers, and herons. Highly recommend this service !

Thank you my bro Keilan and Raglan Kayak for this fantastic experience. It is till date the most amazing and adventureous kayak experience I had. The challenges you threw at me(pass through 2 limestone rocks) were adventureous :) =D haha A huge shoutout to my bro Keilan, who made this kayak experience truly exceptional. His knowledge of the area, its history, and the local wildlife added so much depth to the experience. And thank you bro for fetching me some kawa kawa leaves. I made a friend that day ! Will come back soon !

Fantastic way to spend a couple of hours on the water in safe hands with our guide Grace, exceptional tour and knowledge of the area, the Limestone Express tour is well worth doing. Thanks to Sky for a very warm welcome, he and Grace are a massive draw card 🤩 Cheers from Shona and Tammy (Ps do you have photos from our tour 😁)

My partner and I had a great time on the sea kayak tour of pancake rocks! Our guide Ann was great, super friendly, and had lots of knowledge about kayaking, the area, and plants! The coffee and snacks provided were excellent! I would highly recommend this tour! We go kayaking often however it was great to have a tour guide to show us around and improve my confidence on the water!

We did the Limestone tour and it was really such a great experience! No one had booked in on the tour with us so it was just me, my cousin and our tour guide, who was an absolute pleasure to be around! In general they were all so nice and kind and helped us out alot before, during and after the tour. He told us alot of interesting facts on the way about the areas we kayaked along and we even stopped at small beach area where no one could get to to go swimming! It was such a wonderful experience, thank you so much!

Cafe
La La Land is a cozy and delightful spot in Raglan, New Zealand, offering a delectable selection of treats. The flavored hot chocolates are a must-try, with the chocolate cherry tart being a favorite among visitors. The waffles are highly recommended for their perfect balance of sweetness and tanginess. Despite the limited seating space, the experience is worth it as the service is lovely.
This popular café in Raglan is a must-visit! The chocolate here is incredibly tempting and beautifully presented. The vintage-style decor adds a charming touch to the ambiance. I tried both the coffee and dessert, and they were both excellent. If you're a chocolate lover, I highly recommend indulging in their offerings. It's a delightful spot with great flavors and a cozy atmosphere!
Isabelle Q — Google review
If you like hot chocolates, then this is a must visit because it has the best hot chocolates I have ever had. Loads of variety of different flavours and super chocolatey. Tastes like a cup of melted chocolate. They have lots of different baked goods too. The brownie and banana loaf were delicious. It is a really small quirky place with plenty of seating space outdoors. A great option is to buy takeaway and then take the short 50m walk to the water front

Had the sour cherry dark chocolate tart. Ridiculously amazing, shared it with a friend cause it was a big slice, couldn't finish it. Low key now regretting it. I might have dreams about it.
Ayesha A — Google review
Outstanding hot chocolate and food. This place is a master class in how to make rich decadent food and is not for the faint of heart. The rich smooth thick salted caramel hot chocolate was exactly what the doctor ordered on a cold rainy spring day while the kids loved their small hot chocolates and marshmallows. The only drawback of this place is the size - very small ( eead cosy) interior but warm and welcoming. Lovely staff attentive ank knowledgeable. This cafe, while being on the expensive side will be a frequent touch point when we are in raglan.
Rowan T — Google review
Amazing cakes and lates. Everything was delicious. It was busy so it took a little while to get our orders but only one woman was working and she was hustling!
Taylor D — Google review
Wow, the minute you pop into this small shop you are enveloped in a sensory experience. The array of baked sweet goods on your right as you walk to the counter are so mouth watering to the eye. The atmosphere is very quaint, with decor that is very welcoming and cosy. Lovely lady served us, and the hot chocolate would be one of the best we have experienced. The black coffee and cream with a Portuguese tart, delicious!! A must visit if you are in Raglan.
S R — Google review
We visited Raglan for the first time and, as a farewell, we decided to stop by this beautiful café. We are true coffee and pastry lovers, so finding a place like this felt like a real treat. The coffee and food were very good, but unfortunately the overall experience wasn’t as positive as we had hoped. We felt the service lacked warmth, and even when a question had to be repeated, the response came across as unfriendly. It also seemed like there was a new staff member being trained, and it was a bit sad to see that the teaching approach looked rather harsh. We believe that with a friendlier atmosphere, this place could be truly special, because the products themselves are excellent

Amy behind the desk was fantastic! So helpful and kind, when we had a flat tyre she lent us tools to change it as well. Excellent! 8) The hostel itself is lovely, clean, tidy and has a great vibe.

The place has so much potential. Great set up and amazing location. But some of staff are bizarre and the building is unmaintained and gross. Let’s start with the staff. I was cooking dinner my first night and was just about to eat when someone picked up part of my food (a mint chutney) and started smelling it. I was horrified and standing right there, and made it clear that was my dinner. Instead of handing it back, she handed it to her friends to smell as well. Imagine my surprise the next day when I found out she was a staff member, I think Mac (short blond woman) On the other hand, the woman at day reception was incredibly helpful Then the building - rooms are alright but there is no railing for the upper bunk. Furniture is gross and the appliances, pots, and pans in the kitchen are old - hard to find an unscratched non stick pan. There’s a ton of flies around which made it hard to cook because they were constantly landing on your food while chopping / cooking, worse than anywhere I’ve been in NZ (suggest screens as a mitigation…) Rates and location were great though… but not enough to offset a staff member smelling my food and the inability to use the kitchen due to flies + extremely old pots and pans

Such an incredible hostel! Right in town and the atmosphere makes you feel like you’re staying in a shared flat - not a hostel. You can rent surfboards and they also provide skateboards for the skatepark nearby. Planned to stay for 2 nights but ended up staying 5 weeks in total!

Warm, bright, homely, what a special place! Waterfront accommodation in the heart of town with a view of the mountains. Friendly staff and guests with heaters available for the rooms. Very happy with my stay, I will be back 😁

This hostel is in an amazing location right near the town with some beautiful walks right in the backyard. The service was great and the hostel cat Marmite was a delight! I stayed in the dorm and I will say there was a mouldy smell coming from the room, I had to put my hoodie over my nose to mask the smell while I slept. All in all a decent hostel in an amazing location but the cleanliness needs to be a little more upkept!

without exaggerating, this is the best place on earth!!!! everyone is so friendly and amazing and whenever i go there, i need a good reason to leave because i simply wanna stay forever. Amy and Estelle do an amazing job all year and they only hire the best people around. and let’s not forget Marmite, the adorable cat meowing for food and attention everytime she gets a chance .. 🤭 there is no hostel like this one. u first get here alone for a couple of nights and end up leaving 5+ months later with a whole new family in ur heart and tears rolling down ur cheeks. the location is amazing and u can rent surf boards/wetsuits and kayaks super easily. 100000000/10. can’t wait to go back as soon as i can<3

Raglan Rasoi is a must-visit in Raglan, offering friendly staff and great coffee. The cafe has a cute ambiance and offers delicious and generous curry and rice servings. Customers are provided with to-go containers for leftovers. The authentic curries, including the Creamy Dal Makhni made with black beans cooked in butter and cream, are highly recommended. The cheese naan is crispy on the outside and filled with cheese, making it a favorite among visitors.
Amazing lunch. Who could believe you would find such great Indian food in Raglan. We had a great waiter who explained he was from the north and supported our selection as a good choice.

This little gem of a restaurant truly lives up to its high Google rating. As a connoisseur of Indian food, I was impressed by the quality of the dishes. The samosa entrée was superb, and the chef accommodated our request for a combination prawn and chicken madras, making it perfect for sharing and easy on the wallet and waistline. The meal was complemented by a delicious garlic naan and friendly service. This restaurant is a valuable asset to the Raglan hospitality scene. Give it a try; you won't be disappointed.

Just came back from dinner here with my partner, and it was amazing. The curries we ordered were so delicious and flavourful, and the curry and rice servings were so generous. I barely made a dent in my main because I was so full, which is great because it’ll make great leftovers! I was given to-go containers and a bag too which was very helpful. My partner finished all of his can’t stop talking about how delicious is was. The naan, roti, mango lassi, shots and samosas were so delicious too. On top of the great food, the staff and the owner Andy were hospitable and so kind. Highly recommend coming here!!
Vanessa — Google review
The curries were authentic and absolutely delicious, in fact I’m already planning to have the Creamy Dal Makhni again (made with black beans cooked in butter and cream). No awful sugar-filled mall style curries here! The cheese naan was crispy on the outside and filled with cheese. Three of us absolutely enjoyed our dinner. It was really popular too, I would suggest allowing at least 20 minutes for your order to be prepared if you’re taking away as well. Nice clean restaurant and staff are so friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend.

Very bad taste Paneer Tikka Masala was sweet tasting like a few pieces of paneer were served in tomato ketchup The 2nd dish we ordered was a basic Dal Tadka, that too was no where close to being called a Dal, full of curry powder Very disappointing food I recommend that you try any other cuisine while in Raglan, avoid Indian Cuisine

Takeout Restaurant
When you find yourself in New Zealand, a visit to Raglan Fresh Fish is an absolute must for anyone craving delicious fish and chips. Nestled along the main street, this charming little blue eatery often attracts a crowd, but don’t let that deter you; the wait is typically brief. Their snapper, encased in a perfectly golden crispy batter, paired with sweet potato chips or even a classic cheeseburger makes for an unforgettable meal.
The best fish and chips I've had in the two months I've been in New Zealand. Both were perfectly done and seasoned, and it wasn't too greasy. We chose the lemon fish. I don't often leave reviews, but I decided to share this experience because there are so many negative reviews of this place but I had a completely different experience. It was also the fastest (~5 minute wait vs ~20 in other places) and the young lady working was super nice!

Chips fish and nuggets all over cooked and had no flavour. Fish was well over cooked and for the name of shop to state FRESH FISH. Located next to the sea is a understatement My 1st and sadly my last meal
Kiwa M — Google review
Really good fish (shark in light batter) and chips, and a spring roll. And good value. Nice to find a good fish and chips shop.
Steve S — Google review
Most expensive fish n chips in raglan! Only fish n chip open after 7pm in raglan. Nearly $40 for 3 fish n 2 chips! Looked like they cut up 1 fillet to make the 3 fish. Was cooked well, but could get better for less elsewhere.
Aaron P — Google review
Seriously overpriced. $12 burger is pure trash and the fish was tiny.
Aaron M — Google review
I recently had the pleasure of trying the fish burger from Raglan Fresh Fish Takeaways, and it exceeded all my expectations! The fish was perfectly cooked – tender, flaky, and packed with flavor. The batter was light and crispy, giving the burger a satisfying crunch without being greasy. Paired with fresh, crisp veggies including beetroot slices and a delicious tangy sauce, it was a perfect balance of textures and flavors. The portion size was generous, and the fish was definitely the star of the show. I highly recommend this fish burger to anyone in the area craving a delicious, well-prepared seafood meal. You won’t be disappointed!
TNC — Google review
your standard local fish n chip shop, had the staples of fish, chips, burgers and hot dogs. only fault was the fish had an oily taste but still decent. Prices felt a little high but when you're on holiday it isn't a major issue. the service was quick and the staff were pleasant
Chris — Google review
Purchased the tarakihi fish and chips. Fish was NOT fresh and tasted horrendous. There was a layer of slime between the fish and batter and it also smelt really bad. My kids and myself could not even eat it and ended up throwing the lot away. (I’m nervous that the portion we did stomach is going to make us sick). Chips were terrible, over cooked and dry. Portions were good however - which I was surprised at after reading some other reviews which indicates that they are inconsistent. Price is steep too which is to be expected in a small beach town. I don’t mind paying extra if the food was actually good. It’s sad because this fish n chip shop use to be amazing years ago when we last visited.

Such amazing sushis ! One of the best I had since a long time. A must try when you come in Raglan. We also took a Don tofu that was really good. Thanks for the tasty experience
Katinka F — Google review
This is incredibly overpriced, for two people it was $52 for our selection - which would normally be around $30 at a normal place. The sushi was nice but nothing special, avoid this due to the price unless you are a) starving or b) so rich that you dont care about price. Very overpriced for 7.5/10 sushi.

Nice big pieces compared to what you would usually expect, but also more expensive than you’d expect ($25 for 8 pieces). We went on a Sunday and I think the sushi wasn’t freshly made BUT the service was good..!

Roll Up is a charming and cozy shop in Raglan that offers a delightful dining experience. The friendly staff and inviting atmosphere make it a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike. The outdoor seating area provides a tranquil escape, especially during the bustling summer months. Their beef burrito salad is highly recommended, while their real fruit ice cream is a refreshing treat on hot days. The service is top-notch, with personalized attention from the staff.
It was a great place and got hidden dine space at the back. Great for a big meal and reasonable price. Highly recommended this place for vegetarian and vegan as we tried their wrap and Tacos. Friendly staff. They provide ice cream which we haven’t tried but next time for sure. Keep the good work. Thanks 🙏🏼

I genuinely come here every week! Everything about this place is amazing. The staff are all super friendly and helpful, the shop itself has a cute and cozy atmosphere, and the outdoor seating area feels like a private garden, which is an especially nice escape when town gets busy in the summer months. The food, of course, is the main selling point, and I must say their beef burrito salad is my favourite meal and current food fixation! The servings are so generous and is great value for money (which is why I feel like I can justify going there every week!). If I had to pick one meal to eat for the rest of my life it would hands down be the beef burrito salad, and my partner has the vegan one and can attest to it being just as good. Overall, we highly recommend this place! :)

The shop has a charming atmosphere, but unfortunately, our experience with the staff was disappointing. We waited in line for about 10 minutes to place our order, during which only one staff member was working. She was friendly and doing her best. However, when another staff member came out from the back to help, she didn’t acknowledge the queue or ask who was next. Instead, she served the person who arrived after us without saying a word. It felt dismissive and unprofessional.

Greta place for ice cream. They have a lot of different fruit options, so something for everyone. It was a very welcome cold treat on the hot Raglan day we were visiting. Definitely a stop we’ll be making again.

Te Toto Gorge Lookout is a historic site just outside of Raglan, offering stunning views of the coastline and traditional Maori gardens. The walk to the lookout takes about an hour round trip, starting from the same car park as the Mount Karioi hike. After a 30-minute walk, hikers reach a viewing platform with expansive vistas of the coastline, gorge, and amphitheater where Maori gardens once thrived.
One of the best spots for appreciating the sunset. What a magnificent scene! Hardly need to walk. Just choose any soft spot and sit down to watch the sunset. It would be even more wonderful if there were clouds. BTW, it's truly worth coming despite the narrow and hard route here.
Kris L — Google review
One of the all-time western lookouts! About 20 minutes from Raglan township, an incredible 180 degree + view overlooking the enormous Te Totoro Gorge. Highly highly recommend making the trip out to watch the sunset!
Willis W — Google review
Absolutely breathtaking views! Easy walk from the carpark to the lookout. No toilets, no garbage bins, and carpark was quite small - not sure how it would be during peak tourist season. Roads getting there were very narrow and unsealed, but a fun ride. Highly recommend - worth the trip!

A long windy drive from Auckland by approximately 2 hours and more. If you suffer from nausea or vomiting from travelling windy road, get some mints or chewing gum or ginger lolies. Some people do say, lower your windows helps.. but.. You will have to pass through a small town area with beautiful beach with blue waters.. absolutely stunning. Anyone who wants to go for a swim should do it.. Anyways, it is better to have a car with GPS as you may find yourself out of internet the deeper the journey goes. As the name suggest it is a Gorge so you are going up to a steep gravel road. Although I have seen a sedan driven pass me, I strongly suggest an SUV or a Van cuz the road is uncomfortable for family even friends. Of course, it windy road and it get smaller and requires a certain skills to manuver as the closer you get to the top the smaller the road. I suggest turning on your lights to inform the oncoming traffic. Be extra careful! If you are person with the need to go toilet often. There are public toilet on your way before the aforementioned gravel road. Now the time frame I am suggesting is in the month of Sept, Oct or Nov (Spring) to Summer (Dec, Jan and Feb).. because it gets dark late till by 7 or 8pm. Your field vision will also be affected in winter due to misty fog the higher you are up the mountain..

It’s a small lookout but Breath-taking view of the waves crashing in. Wish you could walk all the down but no way down. The place to park is also not big. There are also hiking treks -the signage says 2 to 3 hours and more for different trails. I’m definitely not in shape to do this!
El P — Google review
Reading other reviews about gravel track, sharp turns I was quite concerned if I should even attempt in 2WD. Driving thru I find it important for you to know that the track isn’t that challenging. It is 2 lane and at places narrows down but not dangerous. Low speed is the key other than that all find in 2WD. In terms of the place the views are mind blowing. Worth the drive, enjoy every bit of scenery while you are there. Good luck and safe driving!

Easy walk down the path. Views were incredible. Winds were strong, just be careful :)

"I had an absolutely breathtaking experience at Te Too Gorge Raglan! The scenic views of the gorge were simply stunning, and the tranquil atmosphere was so peaceful…!!! The walking trails were well-maintained and offered varying levels of difficulty, making it accessible for all ages and fitness levels. The information signs along the way provided fascinating insights into the history, geology, and flora of the area. If you're looking for a unique and unforgettable experience in nature, Te Too Gorge Raglan is an absolute must-visit! We can't wait to return and explore more of this natural wonderland…!!!

Hiking Trails
The Karioi Summit Track in Raglan, Waikato offers a challenging yet rewarding hike to the top of Mt Karioi. The trail is approximately 7.4km long and takes around 3 to 3.5 hours one way. While there are two tracks to the summit, the Mt Karioi Track is recommended for its scenic views despite its longer length and difficulty level.
+ PROS, - CONS and • Information + Stunning views • Bring water! (At least 1L) • Hiking boots or proper shoes are recommended. - The steep bits can be very slippery due to moisture or loose dry sediment - Even with weeks of clear weather in raglan the top had some mud and slippery parts. I would not recommend doing it during or after rain. Note: I did it on the 10th of February with 25°c heat. I don't think I've ever sweat more on a hike so far xD. I wore a thick layer of sunscreen and applied again on my face but still got a little burnt. I also brought some snacks to enjoy during and at the summit if the hike 😁 The whole hike took me 9h 17m. I started at 10:31am and ended at 7:48pm. On the uphill I took lots of breaks to catch my breath and enjoy the view. I know I could have gone a lot faster tho and when I do this hike again I'll add my new time to this review.

Really awesome. Beautiful, but quite hard. Not for the faint of heart. Lot of climbing; it's very steep in places. But that's part of what makes it great fun! Most of it is in trees, but there are significant exposed sections, with great views but also great winds. We did it in winter and it was very cold in the wind when you're not moving. I can imagine it getting really hot in summer though so I think we did it at a good time. Also, note that the road in wasn't in great shape, so drive carefully and I wouldn't drive anything too expensive or sporty down there. It took us about 7hrs, but it could be a lot longer or shorter depending on your fitness.
Avo C — Google review
It’s a hard hike in terms of the track itself. Not the steepest hike, but the tracks can be muddy and narrow. Certain parts have chains that you have climb. From lookout point it’s another 45-60min walk to the summit.
Dana Y — Google review
This trail is hard for me but I enjoyed every minute. Wet and slippery ground. We walked from karioi through Wairake track spent around 6 -7hrs. ( used 2 car by one car parking at start point karioi track and another at Swanns car park)
Romrudee S — Google review
Medium to Hard but amazing track! Prepare for a bit of mud, and some light scrambling at times. Has some amazing views at the top, with the helipad there is a great place to sit. Also make out Mt Ruapehu on a clear day
Connor D — Google review
Worth a visit althought slightly out of the way. Not really a must do with crazy amazing views, but an enjoyable hike for those who like tramping! Took us 2 hours to the lookout with a break or two in between, and 1 hour more to the summit. Total of 5 hours return. Fron the other end, it took a passerby 1hour 50minutes to the summit. Some areas are slippery and need a bit of climbing, but I find those really fun. Bring lots of water to keep hydrated!
Desmond C — Google review
Amazing views and enjoyable climb - was quite challenging in places with chains installed to help you climb up and down so good level of fitness required. Really fun for those looking for an adventure and spotted some fabulous birds including Fantails and a bellbird! Took us nearly four hours there and back from Whaanga Road Car Park to Lookout.
Emily K — Google review
Tough but rewarding hike, a lot of up and down along the ridgeline so similar times to get in and out. Recommend going when it's been dry for a few days and wearing hiking boots. Don't forget to check out the Te Toto gorge lookout near the carpark.

Bryant Memorial Scenic Reserve- Ngarunui Track

4.6

Nature preserve
Bryant Memorial Scenic Reserve- Ngarunui Track offers a challenging and picturesque workout. The trail can be accessed from the top near the Bible Camp on Wainui Road or from the bottom near the surf club. The walk through the bush leads to Upper Wainui Road, offering a loop option. Parking is limited, but the view of the sea is worth it. The track includes stairs and a lookout with stunning views of the sea before descending to Ngarunui beach.
Easy short walk that has some beautiful bush and views of the sea. It ends up on the beach
Raphael N — Google review
In my opinion, Bryant Memorial Reserve is the best place to go for a workout that is not only gorgeous but also rather challenging. There is a little decline at the beginning of the trail, which winds its way through the woodland. After what seems like an eternity, you finally emerge from the underbrush and arrive at this beautiful vantage point, which presents Raglan's wild side. It is at this point when the track narrows and becomes considerably steeper that one arrives at Ngarunui, a well-known surf beach. The main disadvantage of this path is that it requires you to travel uphill at the beginning of the journey. Even while it is not overly steep and I did not have any fatigue after it, you will need to have a reasonable bit of walking fitness in order to manage it. Wheelchairs and pushchairs will not be able to navigate it. It is possible for families with children of school age to have a nice day at the beach because of its handy location. They may even bring a picnic and spend some time lounging on the sand instead of going to the beach. It is strongly suggested that you do out this activity while you are in Raglan.
Gaurav P — Google review
Limited parking at the start. Easy 10 minute walk down (600m distance) to the wide beach. 13-15 minutes back up again.

Pretty little walk. 15 minutes down to the beach and about 20 back up to the road. Nice lookout halfway. Really enjoyed it and the beach below!

Beautiful seaside views. Not the longest bush walk but well worth the walk. There is a pathway leading to the beach for a shore access.

Wainui Reserve Bush Park is a perfect spot for a leisurely day out. Nestled between the beach and native bush, it offers walking tracks, swimming and surfing spots, as well as green areas to relax. Hike to the top for stunning views and magical sunsets. The park is close to Raglan town center and Manu Bay, making it convenient for visitors. With various paths to explore, it's an ideal place for a stroll with family or friends.
Fabulous scene. You must walk to the farm on the summit, But if you hike and follow the yellow arrow, you may get lost in the massive grass and tremendous hills, which the way never appears on the map.

It is a nice trail, easy to go with your partner or with the family and kids. It is short and does not take much time to walk, as soon as you enter on your left you will find the toilets (very important). I recommend it for those who want a distraction that does not take much time and effort.

Easy parking. Easy to walk. Good picnic area. Good place to go

Enjoyed a wonderful walk around the park. It has different trails: Betty's walk, Ridge walk, Memorial walk, Kahikatea walk, Puriri walk and also an acess to beach area but you have to climb some stairs, not recommended for people with pushchairs and strollers. I took the Memorial walk and went to the beach. At the enterance there is a small area for kids to play and a picnic area to enjoy a nice dinner with family.
Shreejesh N — Google review
Nice walks in the bush with lovely wood bridges. Pretty close to Raglan town centre, walkable distance if you have time. Close to a surfing beach as well. You have tables available for picnic. Perfect to enjoy a Raglan afternoon and chill elsewhere than the beach.

Raglan Rock Adventure Co offers a variety of thrilling activities such as rock climbing, caving, and archery. With over a decade of experience, the certified guides ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for both kids and adults. Visitors can explore the beautiful surroundings of Raglan while engaging in these adventurous activities. The caving experience is described as amazing, with guides providing reassurance and creating a mentally challenging yet rewarding adventure underground.
I did the 1-day traditional climbing and had the good fortune of being personally guided by the owner of the company Gareth. We had an amazing day climbing the different routes on the wall with a beautiful scenery in the background, starting with quick explanation of the 6 rules to set up the clamps safely and hands on practice. Through the day, safety was always a priority in the systems adopted and I felt totally safe and in good hands. I particularly enjoyed abseiling down on my own with a simple yet secure self-protected system that is simply to understand and easy to setup. This experience gives me the confidence and motivation to pursue further in trad climbing and perhaps obtain a certification some day.

Canyoning with Raglan Rock was a great experience. Everyone’s adrenaline was pumping as we assented the first waterfall unsure of what to expect. Dan was super knowledgeable and safety was his first priority. I think a couple of us older people were a little unsure how we would go, especially climbing up out of a waterfall in a tight, thick wetsuit but we all managed and were proud with our achievement. A great way to spend half a day in the beautiful countryside and experience the thrill of doing something new. Highly recommend

We went canyoning yesterday and had an amazing experience! Our guide Francesco (I hope I’m spelling it right!) was fantastic – he explained everything clearly, helped us whenever we needed, and kept the energy up by chatting with us the whole time. The route was beautiful and all the information on the website matched what we got. We really enjoyed the whole adventure and might come back to try some of the other activities in the future. Highly recommended!

What an awesome day! Thanks so much to Raglan Rock for an epic day canyoning. Abseiling down waterfalls, walking through beautiful canyon rivers and rock climbing up a waterfall all within a few hours. Great day out, highly recommend. Staff were wonderful. Super friendly and experienced. Ella made us feel safe and well looked after the whole time and was also great company. Thanks so much for a wonderful day! ❤️ Highly recommend

I was originally booked for canyoning in Piha with AWOL, however, it was cancelled a week before due to council restrictions with the Kauri dieback in the area. Still wanting to do a trip, i discovered this hidden gem in Raglan and reached out to see if any tours were running. As i was driving down from Auckland en route to Rotorua, i could only do one day and no one else had booked as yet. Harry was my contact and stayed in touch the whole time, trying to gather more people for the day so they could run the tour. The time came and it was still just me, but Ben was willing and able to take me out. I paid a bit extra (at my request) for this to happen, but it was worth every cent, and still such good value. Ben was fantastic and couldn't have asked for a better guide. Energetic, confident, interesting and just a great presence to be around. His love and knowledge for the outdoors was infectious and i learned a lot - even got to sample some Kawakawa and Hangehange as we passed through. I jumped off and abseiled down waterfalls, hiked up stream and down stream in rocky and slippery terrain and rock climbed a steep water fall. Ben was a great support any time my confidence wavered, always double checking safety equipment and i left with a great sense of pride for having conquered Raglan Rock. Gorgeous views along the way, perfect weather, and Ben even provided some great restaurant tips for my stop over in Hamilton. Thanks guys for the best day, this was a huge highlight of my visit to NZ. I'm so glad my plans got changed! Hope to see you again in a future venture.

Golf club
Raglan Golf Club offers a relaxing yet challenging golf course at reasonable prices. The first four holes are home to some curious sheep, adding an interesting twist to the game. The clubhouse provides food and beverages, bar counters, showers, and toilet facilities. It's also a popular venue for weddings with recent renovations enhancing its appeal for such events. The well-maintained course is complemented by excellent service from friendly and professional staff.
A bit of up and down but beautiful course. And an amazing staff -Julian is absolute delight! Green fee is only $35 for affiliates so very affordable. We will be back again definitely!

Really cool course to play, staff are amazing. They managed to fit our foursome in even though the club champs was on the same day, we just started back 9 which was no hassle at all for us. Challenging course if you can’t consistently keep it on the fairway😂 but definitely a hidden gem and will go back when we’re out there camping. If your in the hazard just take a drop, not worth looking for your ball hahaha

Looks a great full sized course, but we were there for the mini golf. Had been a few years ago and we're very pleasantly surprised to see it all completely renovated. The course is immaculate and plays perfectly. The clubs, balls, even the little pencil with the s orchard were brand spanking new! Thoroughly recommend for family fun!

Wow, what a great course to play, and Julianne was a superb host. Checking everything was fine after nine holes and offering great tips on the course. Very pleased we took the time to stay in Raglan and play this gem.
Grant M — Google review
This course is a hidden gem! Played here the other day with my friend and even though it had been raining the whole night before the course was still very fun to play on. I think the continuous rolling slopes on the course make the grass stay relatively dry even during the rainy days. The course was great fun and we practically had the entire place to ourselves! The guy at reception was very kind and extremely helpful. Great experience all around. 100% going back.
Ben S — Google review
Beautiful course. Well maintained. Unbeatable setting. I was just visiting and the service from the clubhouse was outstanding - can't recommend it highly enough if you're passing through or staying for longer.

My Wife and I held our wedding at the Raglan Golf Club and we couldn't have had a better time!! Tim was very accomodating of our wedding, he had recently transformed the club house with some renovations work that coupled well with our wedding stylist The White Wedding club, and The Wharf catering club to deliver, in our eyes, the perfect wedding. I also was able to sample the back nine holes during the morning with my groomsman and it was extremely enjoyable. Each hole had its challenges yet wasn't too difficult for the everyday golfer!! I look forward to hitting up the course for years to come, when revisting to remember our special day and getting to see the additional changes Tim has planned!! Thanks again for a fantastic occaision.

Pizza restaurant
Piace is a hidden gem in Raglan, known for its delicious pizzas that can be made vegan. The owners are friendly and welcoming, and the pizza is made in a special pizza oven. Customers can enjoy their meal in the quiet courtyard with plenty of seating or opt for takeout. The prices are reasonable, and the pizzas are consistently delicious. It's a favorite among locals and visitors alike, making it a must-visit spot when in town.
One of the best woodfire pizza experiences I've ever had! The wide range of vegetarian options was particularly impressive. I also loved how the Monstera plants spilled beautifully over the outside walls of the restaurant, adding a lush and vibrant touch to the overall atmosphere. The decor perfectly complements the vibe of the pizzeria and aligns seamlessly with the character of the Raglan. I highly recommend trying this spot if you’re in town.
