Melba's Chocolates Adelaide Hills is a renowned Australian chocolate and candy maker that operates in two picturesque locations: Woodside in the Adelaide Hills and Angaston in the Barossa Valley. The original factory, located in Woodside, offers a historic setting with vintage equipment and a retail shop. It's an ideal family-friendly destination about 40 minutes east of Adelaide. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of chocolates and lollies, including sugar-free options made by Melbas themselves.
Beautifully refurbished chocolate factory with viewing areas to see products being made. Definitely a touch of old world charm also. **Save up before you go as you are paying for QUALITY!** Also the best hot chocolate! Glad I got take away as I got a larger serve 😌

Out of the way chocolate store. Not much happening when we were there and all the tasting containers were empty. Prices were reasonable and it was well decorated. They were decorating chocolate doughnuts and you could see them on the conveyor belt which was a nice little novelty. Has a small cafe inside with a chocolate fountain which was very cool, but no indoor seating, only outside, but far too hot to sit out there on the day we visited. Would have been nice if they had some boards up to explain the history of the store? Still, worth the visit. Kids loved it. Would have been

Took a hike to find this place on the recommendation of a relative. Lots of delicious favourites here. Even had some sugar free offerings! I bought a few bags of my favourites and all I've tried so far have been high quality. Not cheap though, but quality rarely is. We also had hot chocolates to finish our visit. They were delicious and hot/creamy. The sample pots were all empty when we visited and I was only offered a tiny piece of milk chocolate to try after my purchase. That's my only criticism, otherwise a good experience and worth a visit.

I've been meaning to visit this place for a while and was pleased to finally have the chance last Saturday. The factory is in the industrial area of Woodside. It looks large from the outside, but the actual shop area is quite a bit smaller, which makes sense as they need room to package items, etc. It was a bit disappointing to see that there is no chocolate tasting on offer, except for a choice of a few types at the sales counter. So, there is no tasting of peanut clusters or rocky road, just milk and dark chocolate and rum and raisin. Plus, you need to ask for a piece, so you probably end up tasting one or two small pieces of chocolate. I've been to other factories where they are more generous with their tasting options. The prices are extremely high, and though, the chocolate is tasty, would be beyond the reach of many. I did enjoy the hot chocolate from the cafe and would purchase one again when in the area. I recommend visiting on a weekday as it does get very busy on the weekends.

Coffee house offers lots of tasty drinks. I didn't get to try the coffee but the hot chocolates were great so I imagine the coffee would be too. Large variety of chocolates and lollies. Everything we got was delicious. Highly recommend the peach hearts, caramel buds and the milk chocolate and strawberry chocolate. Shopping baskets at the front left when you walk in. You can see the work stations where the products are made. Toilets front right when you enter the building. Lots of brochures at the front to see all the Adelaide Hills have to offer. Definitely worth the trip.
Jasmine D — Google review
What a great experience when visiting the hills! An actual working chocolate factory, importantly, SA family owned, and operated! More chocolate and sweets than you’ve ever seen in one place, there’s a Cafe and a great outdoor seating area. Fantastic place to visit with the family.
M T — Google review
Heard a lot about Melba’s chocolate factory and could visit in July 2025. Seemed just like a big chocolate shop as there was no one to give a guided tour, tell the visitors where they source their cocoa and no tasting was available. Chocolate factory visit itself was a disappointment except that their dark chocolate drink great, which was a consolation.

Melba’s Chocolate is a great place for chocolate lovers of all ages. When you enter, you’ll find a wide variety of chocolates, candies, and lollipops—there’s something for everyone! A highlight of your visit is the café, where you can enjoy their delicious, specially made hot chocolate. It’s a must-try and really enhances your experience.

An Artisans cheese paradise all in one store. Buy everything you could possibly need for a cheese & charcuterie board, including boards, cheese knives, & many locally made products. Worth the time & money. I love to go back a few times a year to restock & see what's new!

I ordered a 2kg tub of Persian Goat Feta for click and collect on Wednesday 18th September at 9:15am and got a notification saying the order was ready at 9:50am. When I arrived to pick up my order at 11:10am just after they were supposed to be open there was a sign on the door apologising, explaining they were closed for unforeseen circumstances. I ended up ringing the next day and organising to pick up my order on the weekend when I would be in the Adelaide Hills next- Which went smoothly thankfully. When I got home and opened up my cheese I noticed it seemed to look quite plain. It took me a moment to realise what wasn’t in the bucket was the seasoning like there usually is. I probably should’ve rang and complained but I didn’t want to drive the 45 minutes or so back to Woodside, so I pulled out the fresh thyme in the fridge and added that to the bucket then dumped in a few tablespoons on black peppercorns.

On Easter Monday, we came to this store/factory for the first time, and purchased five cheeses. We bought two yellow cheeses, one with peppercorns, and one with ash, we also bought a Brie, a chilli goats cheese which was called “Goat on a Hot Tin Roof” and another cheese called “Monet”, which was goats cheese with some edible flowers on top. We found the prices to be quite reasonable, and were happy with how things went. A week later we invited some friends over to our place for a cheese platter evening, to road test what we had purchased, and each and every cheese was so amazing, tasty, and so beautiful. We were all so impressed. We will definitely be coming back to buy these cheeses again. It’s hard to get good cheese, and all of these ones ticked the boxes beautifully. Thank you so much.

Don't trust their Google opening hours as they are not open 7 days a week. After turning up on Tuesday to a closed sign, stating they would be open Thursday at 11am, we arrived at 11:45am Thursday and they were still closed. Would suggest ringing before driving here to check whether they are in fact open.

A good shop with amazing cheese. They give you ice in your bag to get the cheese home in tact which was a pleasant surprise.

Not many places have cheese tasting. Such local businesses should be preserved. Its a small 2 room business that we had access to. We didnt see the menu listed in many reviews. For us it was only cheese platter lined up with 6-7 differend kind of cheese. What made me happy was the ice packs they gave us on request to keep cheeze fresh on our way back. We bought 150gm herb cheese for $12.

Lovely cheeses, I was only one there at the time and received personal service. Did cheese tasting & bought quite a few. I loved the whole vibe and the attention I received. Can't wait to go back when in Adelaide next.

Biking Trails
The Amy Gillett Bikeway, a 17-kilometer pathway named after Australian cyclist Amy Gillett, is a popular choice for leisure cyclists and families. It's designed for cyclists, walkers, and horse riders and follows an old railway corridor from Oakbank to Mount Torrens. The family-friendly track is mostly flat with four loop trails that lead to various points of interest. Along the way, you can stop at different towns or visit attractions like Barristers Block Wines.
Superb bike track for the family. Fairly flat with lots of pretty sites to see. It stops between 3-4 major towns so if you plan it right, you can stop at various places depending on your taste (including an excellent winery, Barristers Block Wines). Make sure to check the map first and follow the various websites the recommend the trail. It is highly unlikely that most people of average fitness can do the entire track - especially with kids. Plan to only go between 2 towns max.

Barristers Block Wines, located in Woodside in the Adelaide Hills, is a top choice for families looking to enjoy a winery experience. The winery offers a family-friendly environment with a lush lawn area, sandpit, and even resident deer and alpaca. Visitors can indulge in wine tastings while savoring gourmet pizza and tapas at the cellar door and restaurant, which is open every day from 11 am.
We had a wonderful tasting experience with Kate. She was very friendly and knowledgeable and made the whole experience very enjoyable. We also had the set 2 course lunch menu which was absolutely delicious and so much food. Highly recommend visiting this winery if you want a great experience with lovely food and wine.

A nice place within walking distance on the Amy Gillet bike track, we went mid week so had the place to oursrlves, we stopped in for a glass of red wine and shared a nice warm brie cheese wheel with hone and walnuts and mushroom arancini which was very nice. Dog friendly outside. This was our second time, previously we had a margarita pizza which was tasty and hit the spot with a red wine on a cool day.

Drove over one hour to get here, because I had heard amazing things Service was very quick, which was amazing, but the quality of the food wasn’t the best I’ve had, especially considering the price. I ordered a coffee, but it tasted like it might have been pod coffee rather than freshly made. The reason for the 3 stars is because the staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful, even with how busy it was — they really made the experience better with their great attitude and smiles. Loved how you had lots of grass for the kids to run around and interaction with animals

We attended a Father's Day lunch here, and unfortunately we all left feeling a bit disappointed. The good: The atmosphere was lovely, and the grounds are beautiful. The dining area was lovely, and the live music was a sweet touch. We enjoyed listening to the saxophonist and singer. The sandpit and few lawn games outside, plus animals to look at, were great for the kids. The bad: The service could have been better. I feel as though we were forgotten, receiving our mains later than others around us who arrived later than we did. We had to follow up on the children's meals, and we didn't receive them until well after the mains came out, by which point the children were grumpy and hungry, understandably. Only received one of the kids drinks instead of two. The food was nice, but not great, especially given the price we paid for it. The potatoes were lukewarm at best, the "bbq sticky ribs" were a let down because they weren't as described- sticky. No sauce with them, which you would expect from the name. The dessert, brownies with spray-can cream on top, were burnt around the edges and in those spots were rock hard. I felt like it was a bit of a disorganised jumble. I understand that it was a very busy luncheon setting, with many patrons, but the system maybe needs to be better in order to cater for that. For the price we paid, I thought it would have been better and more organised, with better quality food. I'm sure others will have had a better experience than us, and hopefully this is not the common for this beautiful establishment, but unfortunately this was our experience.

A Truly Unforgettable Experience – 5 Stars! We went to Barristers Block for my husband's 60th birthday & from the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the warm welcome and exceptional hospitality. The level of service provided by Angus & his team was nothing short of outstanding — attentive, genuine, & effortlessly professional. They made us feel right at home & ensured every detail was perfect. The food was simply exceptional & there was loads of it! It was an experience we’ll be talking about for a long time. A huge thank you to Angus & the team for making our visit so special — we’ll definitely be back!

Had been advised that we didn’t need to book a tasting. When we arrived they were keen for us to do a self tasting (for an extra $5 each than the $15 tasting fee we had been quoted). When we asked for a guided tasting they were clearly understaffed and rushed. Although staff were pleasant they didn’t really engage with us to find out what we liked or were interested in. Venue was lovely and wine nice but not sure I would rush back.

Went to lunch there my 40th, service was amazing, food great and well looked after. Then we went for tasting and the service there was a massive highlight. The lady looking after us was knowledgeable, incredibly personable and just a delight to deal with. Nothing was too much trouble, accomodated to everyone and really finished the day off on a high!

Great winery. World class wine. I think the people who don’t give B&H a top rating have other issues going on in their life’s…..over the last 15+ years of coming here, it has been constantly great. During the week it’s nice and quiet. 🍷 🥘

A big thank you to Max, Chef Jacob Davey and his team at LVN restaurant for a wonderful and memorable wedding 'long lunch' at Bird in Hand Winery on 07.03.25. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 'O' Quarters the night prior, getting ready in the morning for our garden ceremony was truly special. Our beautiful lunch with over 30 of our closest friends and family at LVN restaurant, was to die for. It was everything we hoped our day would be, so thank you. One of the guests said it was one of the best events she had been to in her life! So that's a pretty big statement. Everyone adored the food and wine, and service. Max's professionalism, care and guidance preparing for the day and on the wedding day was 10/10.

The cafe Woodside Providore is a beautiful, rustic place that serves delicious food. The staff are friendly and the menu includes many options for vegetarians and vegans. The venison burger was fantastic, and the chips were both crunchy and fluffy. The bruschetta was also very good, but would have been even better with steak knives to cut it with. Overall, a great experience with excellent food.
Such a cute little cafe that is totally unassuming. The food is outstanding and everything on the menu looked delicious! I got the double waffles for brekky and they were honestly some of the best waffles I have ever had. Super crispy and delicious. It’s a hell of a drive for me but it’s probably worth it to have those waffles again 🤤

I’ve never quite understood the logic behind sabotaging baby spinach’s full potential by smothering it over eggs Benedict. Let the poor leaf live! That said, even the spinach sabotage can’t stop Woodside Providore from delivering a pretty banging eggs Benny. But let's not get distracted — the real reason to haul yourself into the Adelaide Hills isn't for the views, the wine, or some elusive sense of inner peace. No. It’s for the double Belgian waffles. These waffles aren’t just good — they’re worth questioning your entire breakfast loyalty for. Sure, someone might tell you there are other reasons to visit Woodside. These people are wrong. These people have not tried the waffles. Now, a word of caution: if you're in a rush, this might not be your best pit stop. This place gets busy, and your waffles might take their sweet, golden time getting to you. But they’re worth every second of waiting. Use that time to reflect on your life choices — like why you haven’t been here sooner. The Eggs Benedict also deserves a nod: fresh, with crispy-but-not-burnt bacon and enough flavour to make you forget about the leafy green trespasser on your plate. So if waffles aren’t your thing, don’t worry — there’s backup breakfast. Bottom line: if you’re retreating to the hills, make it a waffle-fueled retreat to Woodside. Spinach optional.

The Perfect Post-Ride Café Stop in Woodside! 🚴‍♂️☕🐶 This café is our go-to spot after a ride for a great coffee and breakfast. It’s cyclist-friendly, with a dedicated space for bikes, and in winter, they even have outdoor heating—a big plus! The outdoor area is spacious, filled with plants that create a relaxed atmosphere, while inside is cozy and green, bringing the outdoor vibe indoors. The customer service is always excellent, making every visit enjoyable. I highly recommend their Brekky menu—the granola is a personal favorite, and the cappuccino is always spot on. They also offer fresh orange juice, smoothies, and plenty of other options to suit all tastes. The place is pet-friendly, with water, treats, and even a spot to secure leashes to the table. Our first visit certainly ticked all the boxes. The ambience was enhanced by the crackling fire and the open kitchen. The coffee was good, as was our food. We had the lunch menu. Our son was able to have something from the breakfast menu that the crew was only too happy to cook. We will be returning to try the breakfast menu with some interstate friends soon.

This place has so much character, it’s off the charts. Iced coffee was the best ever, food is delicious and the staff very friendly. If I was going to open my own cafe, this is exactly what I’d do. The menu is cleverly done, not complicated but enough options to suit everyone.

If you’re looking for a spot where both humans and furry friends get the royal treatment, Avalon Café is the place. 🐾 Our dog (she’s the queen 👑 of the family) had the best time—pretty sure she was ready to claim her own table! Breakfast was 💯. We shared the smash avo with poached eggs 🥑🍳—and those eggs were poached to perfection. Paired with smooth, delicious coffee ☕, it was the kind of breakfast that makes you want to stand up and cheer for the chef. 👏👏 The window display was pure temptation 😍—almond croissants 🥐, apple slices 🍏, and other treats that looked divine. Next time, one of those croissants is definitely coming home with us. Inside is cozy and welcoming 🪑✨, but the outside garden really stole the show 🌿🌸—relaxed, beautiful, and perfect for families, kids, dogs, and cyclists. 🚴‍♂️🐕 We’re already planning to bring our cycling crew for a breakfast stop after a ride. 🚲🥞 Great vibes, great food, great people. Avalon Café—you’ve officially won us (and our pup) over. ❤️

I can say this café truly amazed me. From the moment you walk in, the entrance is inviting, with a beautiful old vintage design inside and out. The coffee and food are both excellent, but what I love most is how cosy and warm it feels during winter.
