Hermanus in 5 days

If you only have 5 days to spend in Hermanus, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Hermanus is one of the world’s best land-based whale-watching destinations, with southern right whales often visible from the cliffs between roughly June and November. The town combines dramatic coastal scenery, sandy beaches, and the cliff path walking trail that runs for several kilometers along Walker Bay. Nearby nature reserves and fynbos-covered mountains offer hiking, birdwatching, and wildflower displays in season. The compact town center adds cafes, galleries, and a relaxed seaside atmosphere, making it a popular coastal escape from Cape Town.
With favorites like Kammabaai Beach, Hermanus Country Market, and Cafè 1904 Restaurant, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Roman's Pizza Hermanus and Dutchies Restaurant so you can get the best taste of Hermanus while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Shopping mall
Whale Coast Mall is a shopper's paradise with over 100 stores offering a wide range of products from clothing to homeware. The mall's modern and inviting architecture, along with its convenient location near the ocean, provides an elegant and delightful shopping experience. Visitors praise the cleanliness, well-maintained facilities, and friendly staff. The mall also offers ample parking on two levels and is conveniently located near banks and cash machines for added convenience.
What a super nice, clean center with all the shops you need. Parking super close and conveniant.
Piet G — Google review
The mall is very spacious and clean. There's a good selection of stores to choose from. From high-end luxury to affordable options. It boasts a huge Food Lover's Market with the freshest produce. It even has a sushi spot where you can sit down and enjoy what's on offer. A good selection of places to eat and Steers was halaal. Bathrooms were very clean and spotless as well. Ample free parking.
Zaida B — Google review
love the fact that you have many parking bays for moms en tots, seniors and disabled. Also close to entrance. Clean well lit place
Missy M — Google review
Great mall, but whoever thought it was a good idea to charge R2 to use the bathrooms was not thinking. Few people walk around with coins in their pockets nowadays. So please catch up to the 2020s and drop this archaic practice that went out in the 1980s.
Dawid B — Google review
This is exactly what Hermanus needs! It helps with the traffic, especially around the holiday season, by drawing some of the people outside the town. It also gives everyone more options. Which is great, especially for those last minute gifts, I am talking specifically to you, men! There is also a wonderful cinema available, combined with all the amazing restaurants found there, makes this an ideal place for young people to get together and 'hang out'.
Daniel R — Google review
It is a decent mall for the area with a few of the necessary chain stores. We had a pretty cold weekend in Hermanus during peak summer during the Christmas period and needed to buy warm clothing for the whole family which was very difficult to come across. The staff in most of the stores were welcoming and helpful.
Fadila I — Google review
Generally, malls are pretty similar but this one is easily the largest in this area. It dominates the shopping scene, but also berings with it hordes of people, especially on weekends. All the regular stoes are present and there is a wide variety of options though it could do with a Game store as well. The main issue is the fact that you have to pay for the bathrooms which is poor policy. It's a pity that this detracts from the amply parking in a mall which has such an excellent location.
Duncan A — Google review
Beautiful and clean place. So many different places to shop. Restaurants as well. LOVE IT!!!

The Hermanus Brewpub is a must-visit for beer lovers in the Hemel-en-Aarde district. The brewery was founded in 2010 and produces at least 300 different kinds of beer. All their food looks delicious, and the pulled brisket burger was a huge hit with us. We hope to come back soon!
We had such a great experience! Delicious food, super efficient and friendly staff and the beer was excellent! Our waiter, Robinson, was fantastic!
Julia T — Google review
We really enjoyed our dinner at the Brewery and Grill. The staff were friendly and always there when we needed them. My hubby loved their beers and recommends trying their beer tasting board to see which one you like the most. I had their sushi which was so nice and fresh. I would highly recommend swinging by.
Catelyn P — Google review
We were great by Jonathan. He was super helpful and their beer selection was out of this world. 100% would recommend. 1000% going back
Leigh M — Google review
Wonderful holiday atmosphere and relaxed vibe at this brewery. Excellent service! The beer tasting board was delicious! We also did a gin tasting which was really good. This can be shared. We ordered 2 rib specials for 2 couples it was a great portion and great deal.
Meghan M — Google review
Very very cool place and the barman John that served me was a real awesome guy! Did not eat,but food looks amazing so will try that next time. Great award winning beer and like I said awesome staff. Atmosphere gets a 3 for me because of screaming kids, but hey,my opinion. Parents pay the bills so places like this can exist. Just tolerate it and enjoy the beer!
Dirk Z — Google review
Highly recommend for good food, great drinks, and a kid-friendly atmosphere!
Leani G — Google review
Lovely and tasty food, our waiter was very friendly and kind,he served us with a gentle spirit. We were 4 adults and 8 kids. The place has a bit of playing area, we could seat outside and watch the kids play. They have really nice party packets for children, burgers, corndog etc. Overall experience was great, think the food was priced well not too expensive and the food portion was enough. Highly Recommend a visit.
David M — Google review
The menu covers all the bases! Burgers, pizza, wine, beer, sushi! Had the Basket and really enjoyed the cheese fingers. Service was quite slow, but understandable with the rugby. Rugby was great to watch with the huge TV screen. Great for sitting inside or outside

Really good wine shop close to Hermanus - great selection of wines, always something interesting and older. Staff know what they’re talking about. Good tastings.
Carl K — Google review
Great selection of SAfrican wine for many years. Has recently reduced inventory and reduced shelf space so not _everything_is available any more. Good for working capital, but sad for customer engagement t and discovery
Steve B — Google review
We didn't spend much time browsing it so I can't comment on it's offerings. We went there to buy wine stoppers we saw at another wine farm. I found it to be exorbitant. It's a lovely concept but at R115 for a little plastic plug, I'm not sure it justifies the price.
Adele E — Google review
Huge variety of wine, a good selection of beer, gin and pot distilled brandy. Love the MCC collection! Friendly, knowledgeable staff - you can always go with their recommendations!
Sonja M — Google review
Wine tasting all day and such an amazing selection of surpurb Wines, Gins and Brandy.

Honestly one of the best wine shops we have been to. So much in stock beyond just wine and so much you can taste. A must visit every time we visit Hermanus and we never leave without buying a few things.

What a privilege to share this awesome discovery - variety, rarity in one place! Thank Jean Pierre Rossouw, for an amazing tasting experience. Professional, yet warm personal, expert yet accessible and approachable. Thank you for sharing your life story of wine, food and people. This is a dream come true for any child....I have never been so enthralled by the concept of a children's play park as I was here. Everything is beautifully kept ...the staff are lovely...the coffee shop prices are fantastic. I wish I didn't live as far away as I do.....I would visit at least 3 times a week with my grandchild. It was awesome. Lots of parking. Beautifully set out. Well done to the owners!!
Wendy N — Google review
It's great for the children, and it will keep them busy for hours. The playing area and apparatus seem a bit old here and there. Prices are not so great, and there is an entrance to be paid for adults and children alike. Service always feels understaffed in the more busy periods, but generally ok. The food is great, especially the beef burger!
Schalk B — Google review
Hi. The food, service and facility was amazing. The kids loved the experience. The only issue we had was the constant cigarette smoke smell coming from the smoking area situated right next to the pay area. There was a constant smell of cigarette smoke coming from right behind the kiddies play area and restaurant. Could you please look into this. We would love to join you guys again, but this was very off putting. Hoping you could look into this please.
Juandre J — Google review
Very nice, perfect for kids entertainment and if the parents need to have lunch there is a nice easy menu. The nursery also offers a good shopping experience for the garden enthusiast.
Reghard H — Google review
Wonder what to do when you want to feel safe with the kids and just relax a bit. This is the place to be. Indoor and outdoor venue. Baby changing station available indoor too!!! Reasonable prices for everything and definitely great food too!
Suhane N — Google review
For the price, this is a steal! We paid R40 per kid and R20 per adult. Paying for adults, I never understand as I am not going to play on the jungle gym. Rather, just charge a bit more per kid. The food was average, nothing fancy nor overpriced. The place needs child minders for the safety of kids, especially if you are going to charge adults. The WiFi was slow, but I somewhat managed to get a few things done. Overall we will be back to enjoy some play time
The F — Google review
Wonderland Nursery, Coffee Shop, & Playpark offers a delightful space for children and parents alike, with its charming nursery and convenient coffee shop. The nursery provides a safe and nurturing environment for children to learn and play, although the play area could benefit from some maintenance to keep it in top condition. However, the policy of requiring parents to pay for entry feels unnecessary, especially because there is no staff supervising the children.
Esmarie W — Google review
A lovely setting !!! Tranquility for the soul and a perfect place for parents and grandparents to get a breather , let the little ones play safely and burn that excess energy. I Enjoyed a freshly baked hot scone with cheese honey and whipped cream with a much needed coffee. While dreaming up loads of ideas for my future garden ...no lack of inspiration here...best of all the plants are happy healthy and well looked after all ready for their new forever homes ...the choices...impossible :) Will I be back...if I could .every day...loved every moment...a true Wonderland 👍🐇

Gearings Point is a popular tourist spot in Hermanus, offering stunning views for whale watching. The elevated position provides excellent vantage points for spotting whales, with paths along rocky outcrops and grassy areas equipped with benches for comfortable viewing. While the area can get busy, it also features nearby restaurants and markets to explore. Additionally, visitors can enjoy lovely walks along the coastal path and admire sculptures and artwork while waiting for whale sightings.
Beautiful views and vibrant atmosphere make this area a must see visit. We loved walking along the promenade and drinking in the sites as well as wandering around the shops and streets exploring some of what Hermanus has to offer.

Gearing’s Point is a lovely place to walk and take in the ocean views. We were lucky to see a few whales, though they were a bit far out, binoculars definitely help! The lookout decks are well maintained and it’s a peaceful place to just sit and enjoy the sea. Worth a visit, especially during whale season!
Kim K — Google review
Beautiful view. Great shoreside spot for whale sightings. Walkway to explore further. Love the statues on display. Parking can get full quickly over weekends & peak season.

Wonderful view over Walker Bay and an easy walk to most of Hermanus's best coffee shops and restaurants. The best art work from the annual art festival is also on view here throughout the year
Darryll T — Google review
I recently visited Gearing Point, and honestly, I found the place a bit boring. At the end of the road leading to the reserve, there's a barrier where you have to pay an entrance fee of 40 Rand to get in. I went ahead and paid the fee, hoping for something interesting inside. However, once inside, the experience didn't really meet my expectations. There wasn't much to see or do, and overall, the place felt quite dull. I wouldn’t personally recommend it unless you’re really interested in penguins or have extra time to spare

Grotto Beach, boasting its Blue Flag Beach status, is a renowned destination known for its vast sandy expanse and stunning ocean vistas. Extending over 18 km along the coast, this beach offers ample space for activities such as swimming, sunbathing, and leisurely strolls. With convenient parking and access pathways, it's a popular choice for both locals and visitors seeking a stress-free day by the sea.
Beautiful white sandy beach, the place to be for sunsets. Clean ablutions.
Brian G — Google review
I have visited this beach in winter and with it not many people were around. Very suprised at the cleaniness of all the facilities. Keep it up💯👍 Here you can braai or just sit and enjoy the splendours of nature. At this point the lagoon is flowing into the ocean. Ample of parking available but in school holidays this scenario will and can change. Ablution facilities are in a very good condition.🌟😁
Burckhardt K — Google review
Excellent beach!! Sufficient parking, clean beach and crystal clear water (cold though). Safe, secure, and helpful staff. They kindly informed me of a beach chair/buggy for partially abled people. It's able to take them into the water so everyone can enjoy the beach.

Unfortunately it was a rainy day, but we had a satisfying culinary experience and the friendly manager and staff, who made sure to make us feel welcome, were heartwarming. Stunning view while you sit and dine.
Jeanette P — Google review
What an amazing beach that is safe and well managed by the lifeguards. There was also continued presence of law enforcement officials in the parking area to ensure traffic rules obided by all. Sun umbrellas and beach chairs to rent on the beach
Andries P — Google review
Grotto beach is a great place to relax and soak up the sun. During the peak season in summer it can get quite busy, but there is more than enough space so it doesn't get overly crowded. I am not sure if there is always a Life Guard on duty, but when we visited there was. There were also other activities for the kids such as a rock climbing wall, and with a couple of restaurants close by you can easily spend the entire day there. Although we only went for a walk along the beach, I have previously swum there and the water was cool but bearable. Grotto Beach is recognized as a Blue Flag beach.
Dewald R — Google review
A Lovely long flat stretch of beach. The sunsets are beautiful there. There are ablutions, a coffee van, ice cream and kiosks. Small play area for the kids. Life guards are on duty in season. There is plenty of parking BUT during the summer holidays it can be difficult to find parking and you might have to walk a long distance to where the swimming beach area is.
Maryke J — Google review
Definitely a blue flag beach. Ample parking, large beach area, 2 restaurants and snack venues, public toilets and a braai / picnic area. Not to mention caves and a trail you can walk. There is plenty of parking, but it can be difficult during summer and holidays.

The pizza pies are good BUT Do not buy the chicken strips - It's not worth it. For just under R40 I got 3 smallish sized strips & and a tiny off-cut. The strips were over cooked and dry & the sauce doesn't taste nice at all. Sorry for this review, but we were really disappointed. Hope you try better in the future.

We have ordered your Fetaroni countless times since you have opened the store and never had an issue but the one we ordered yesterday was completely inedible between 3 people, whom have medium - high heat tolerance. This was unfortunately a waste of money. There was too much Jalapeno/oil or both. Still giving 5 stars as I've never had an issue for many years and service has always been excellent. Kind Regards

Online checkout didn't work, so we phoned our order in. We were told maximum 1 hour for delivery. After 1h15 we called and were assured driver was on his way. He eventually called us after about 1hr 40. Being a fast food joint we weren't expecting gourmet, but pizzas arrived lukewarm after all the delays. Last time we order here. Please supply your drivers with Google maps and keep patrons informed, we shouldn't have to call repeatedly to follow up.

Always a hit! Food is consistently good, the atmosphere: always a great vibe and the fact that it’s across from one of the most beautiful beaches is a bonus. Firstly the view... stunning Beautiful decor and service great. Food is yummy and well priced.. the only thing I found odd was the name. 😁 I had never been and was rd tripping and ready for a bite and break and saw the sign and really expected a typical old school pub/ bar wood everywhere and limited menu. So it was quite a surprise to see this contemporary beautiful beach restaurant. Not a negative but I did laugh at me judging a book by its cover 🤣

The best place to stay! It was an absolute treat: you can walk everywhere you need to be...to the shops, restaurants and best view walks alongside the cliff paths. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Absolutely enjoyed the breakfast...the weather was good, so we could sit outside with the view of the ocean. A dip in the pool with the ocean view is a must and a 40min massage to relax is the way to go. The New Wing Rooms are tastefully done and very neat - we are very satisfied and will be back again! :-) Thank you Kevin and the team!

Views from our hotel room were spectacular. We can literally see whales from the window. There are also cliff walks just outside with views of the coast and a good chance to see Hyrax, Cape Eagle Owl and many small colorful birds among other sea animals. Staff were very friendly. Breakfast was good too

We were particularly impressed with our very nice, large room. It was not only spacious but also absolutely clean and comfortably furnished. The cleanliness throughout the entire hotel was also impeccable. The breakfast was another highlight – a great selection, freshly prepared, and a perfect start to the day. A special thank you goes to Manager Kevin, who provided truly personal and warm service. This level of commitment makes all the difference! We will definitely be back and can highly recommend this hotel.

A brilliant place. Staff fantastic and so many nice touches like complimentary arrival drinks and free afternoon tea. Beautiful room and fantastic breakfast. Really enjoyed our visit to the Harbour House Hotel and Hermanus

The hotel is beautifully located, just a few minutes’ walk from the market, shops, as well as restaurants and bars. The rooms are very spacious, modernly furnished, and absolutely clean – you immediately feel comfortable. The entire hotel is extremely well-maintained. A special highlight is the friendly and attentive staff who are always helpful. Breakfast is served à la carte, offering a delicious variety with a nice British touch. In the afternoon, complimentary scones, tea, and coffee are provided – a lovely gesture. The pool is cleaned daily, and during whale season you can even watch whales directly from the pool. A wonderful hotel that I can wholeheartedly recommend.

Biga Artisan Bakery Cafe is a great place to enjoy delicious artisan breads, pastries, cakes and brownies. They also serve excellent coffee and have a lovely outdoor seating area. The staff could be more attentive, but the food is definitely worth checking out!
Great venue and their chocolate mousse brownie cake is wonderful. Prices are very reasonable and the burgers are some of the best.

One of the best breakfasts we’ve had during our travels in South Africa. The Wednesday early bird breakfast was perfect! Tea/coffee, eggs, bacon, sourdough and tomato all for R60! Great service, a beautiful cafe with amazing art work and atmosphere. We loved the fire places and lots of outdoor seating. Only started getting busy around 10am. All of the bakery good were wonderful too! 10/10 experience, would highly recommend!!

Delicious fried fish and salad (I opted for no chips), enough for the very hungry or to share😆… with a delicious cappuccino. The pastries looked divine🫶🏻💓. I immediately made a reservation for the Sunday lunch. Thank you for friendly service.

We loved visiting Biga, it was such a lovely cozy atmosphere, especially with the fireplace in the corner! The breakfast specials they had were affordable and very yummy, the hot chocolate was the stuff of dreams! They also have a really nice variety of bakery items on offer, we tried the mini carrot cake and the mini apple pie, both were delicious!

Very Disappointed. When we arrived, we were greeted unenthusiastically. We did not feel welcome but could understand as the restaurant was fairly busy, even so there were at least 4 or 5 waitresses on duty. We found a table for 2 towards the back of the restaurant, near the kitchen. The table had not been cleared but we didn't mind. Our waitress, Margret, cleared a cup or two off the table and left, we moved everything else to the big empty table beside us after waiting a moment for her to come back. The table was sticky but we were understanding as we did chose to sit there. However, it would have been a kind gesture for her to offer to wipe down our table. Menus were put down without much word. It felt as if we were an inconvience. The coffee was exceptional and brought out within minutes. After we had ordered, we waited a while for our food to arrive. Food arrived beautifully but was ice cold which was a shame. During our meal, we watched the baker at work which was fantastic. Very impressed with the level of skill he showcased. Sadly not all were as professional, as we sat down, we watched a table having their order taken, while their waitress openly chewed gum. Fourtunalty our waitress did eventually give us a smile and was friendly, unfortunately it was only when it was time to pay. I was very dishartned as it was a sad start to what would have been a great birthday breakfast. I normally would not have written a review but I had great expectations, now all I am left with is disappointment and stomach ache. I do not recommend the restaurant although the bakery itself is lovely.

Such a nice place, but needs a manager that is on top of things. Service is lack lustre, disinterested waiters, mediocre, cold pie and the coffee was just off. Bought a sweet treat for later, but it was basically icing with biscuit pieces in it. And a glazed cherry on top with an odd fishy smell. So much potential here though. Common guys, get it right!

Day 2

Center of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the center side of town. Start the day off with Bientang's Cave Restaurant & Wine Bar, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Fishermans Cottage. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Bientang's Cave Restaurant & Wine Bar is a unique seafood restaurant located in a cave with terraces overlooking the ocean, offering an unforgettable dining experience. The menu features a variety of seafood dishes, sharing platters, fresh salads, hearty potjies and curries, as well as beef, chicken, and vegetarian options. Guests can enjoy their meal while watching whales and seals in the ocean below. The restaurant also offers a selection of local wines and creative cocktails to complement the dining experience.
A must experience if you are visiting Hermanus . You have to make a reservation as they get fully booked quickly, especially during the peak summer months . This is a tourist place , so the prices are high for us locals . Starters begin at R180 ..upwards for example. You can sit up in the cave ...or on the rocks itself right next to the ocean . Tables are spread from each other so you have peace and quiet to just listen to the ocean waves . Be warned ⚠️ wear comfy shoes , there are 51 steps going down a steep incline ..that is the only way to the restaurant no short cuts unfortunately . It does get windy ..you are right on the ocean after all , so do take a jacket with in case . I had the cape malay sea food potjie was served with rice and poppoddum, price R265 served in a little potjie pot. It was delicious, it was not hot spicy but had flavor , which is rare these days when people serve their version of curry , friends had the chicken and prawn potjie R265 and the battered hake with veg ..the battered hake was R175 ..also nicely prepared , crisp tempura batter on it not oily at all . Service was friendly and efficient . I have to take my hat off tk the waiters who have to walk up and down those steps constantly to serve us . Overall a lovely experience..especially for a special occasion ..I would think even a great venue to have an intimate beach side wedding.

We had a dinner booking for a Saturday evening at 18:00 and were seated on the deck overlooking the sea — a perfect spot to enjoy the sunset. The restaurant itself is uniquely set inside a cave, adding to the charm and atmosphere of the evening. My partner and I shared the seafood platter for two, priced at R890. It included tiger prawns, fish, calamari, mussels, chips, and rice. The portion size was just right for both of us, and everything tasted fresh. While it is on the pricier side compared to a standard seafood platter, you’re also paying for the stunning views and the overall experience. A truly unique dining experience — I’d definitely recommend a visit!

Beautiful location on the shore of Hermanus. We had a lite vegetarian lunch. Very balanced, ordered some extra bread with our salads, no extra charge. People are very helpful and kind. Would recommend this if you are in the neighborhood.

I was very excited to experience this cave restaurant and its awesome views. Food - Not alot of options on the menu. We kept in easy and simple with a hake and chips and a beef burger. Both our items were good. Prices are on the higher side. Service - Friendly helpful staff, not much to say here. Good job. Atmosphere - Amazing view. Bench seats are uncomfortable but practical. The stairs on the way down with test your knees and ankles. Beware.😅 I will not return but was a good experience for us and recommend for others.

The amazing location of the restaurant situated in a cave located next to the cove made Bientang's Cave restaurant absolutely unforgettable. They were fortunately able to seat out entire group including our late comers. For vegetarian food there weren't many options, I opted for the burata salad and a bar one milkshake. Though they listed many exciting flavours on their menu, they were only able to offer me 3 options. The food was ready relative quickly and was fresh and flavourful and the milkshake was thick and creamy. Overall a decent meal and though it was slightly pricey the view and proximity to the whales was well worth it. Our server was decent and helpful as were as the rest of staff at the at the restaurant. Definitely a must visit, in my opinion, even if it's just for a drink.

We visited Hermanus after not being there for well over 10 years and we were pleasantly surprised at how it has developed. It still holds the charm and character of an old sleepy towns but the food and service around the town has improved a lot over the years. With the amazing views, market and public art Hermanus is a place you need a few hours to absorb the relaxed feel of the place.

Beautiful items are sold 👌🏼 One can purchase many cute gifts 🐋 The place is just beautiful 🐳 We went to a shop called Sweet Love, their ice cream is so lovely, we bought (4) sugar cones at R25 each, cupcakes (3) for R30 and a small pack of biscuits (3). They have ice cream sauces which is free and then they also have topping which is R10 extra per topping. They even sell sweets and fashion jewellery for kiddies. A cute little shop ⭐ Thanks to the girl who assisted us qnd thanks for the extra serviettes 🤭 We also viewed the huge restoration whale project. They also have an Audio Pedestal which you insert a R5 then you can hear an audio of the whale sing 🐋 It was cool 🐳🙏🏻

The menu showcases the rich seafood of the coastline, along with meat and vegetarian options. Chef-owner Anton's specialties are prominently featured on the daily blackboard menu.
A wonderful evening! Many thanks to the very friendly staff who even offered us a seat in their private family area at the counter. The atmosphere was unique and cozy. The recommended fish was absolutely sensational and the fresh, draft beer was the perfect accompaniment. An all-around successful visit – we will be very happy to come back

The food was amazing. We had the oysters. The flavour was very nutty. For starters we took the hake paté and mussels. The hake paté looked like a star dish. The mussels were big and tasteful. We loved the Garlic sauce! We took Prawns for dinner. I recommend the prawns with Rice. For the wine, we took a Nice bottle of chardonnay. It was a bit more pricey. The house wine is very good and cheap. Zizo was our waitress and took so good care of us. She was really helpful, patient and took initiative. One of our best places for food in SA

The staff were extremely friendly and helped us a lot with our choice of meat and steak. I also thought the illustration to help us understand the differences was excellent. +:The Mac n' Cheese Balls were crispy on the outside and creamy and cheesy on the inside. Perfect starter! The fillet steak with the bone marrow jus as well as the fillet steak with the mushroom sauce were absolutely delicious. Tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. Highly recommend them with the vegetables as a side. ~: The onion rings were crispy however a little bit too salty in my opinion. We really enjoyed our dinner, especially because of our attentive and friendly waiter, Unati! All in all a perfect place to eat steaks!

The most amazing steak of my life 😋 Be prepared to pay a small fortune, but it will be worth it. The waiter was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, helping us each to pick our own steaks... And my word they were tender, succulent and tasty. The sides were great, and the sauces? The best mushroom sauce I've ever had. If you ever find yourself in Hermanus, I definitely recommend.

During the Whale Festival on Saturday 4 Oct '25, my wife and I walked into Char’d, and their reception was on top form. We were assigned to Chengo... wow, what a guy! I ordered a burger that wasn’t on the menu because and said I prefer a Blue Cheese Burger. Chengo said it can be done... I’ve done a number of restaurant reviews over the past 10 years, and I have never tasted a burger this good. This is the honest truth! The balance between the loaded toppings and onion rings with the most devine blue cheese sauce that lingers in the back of your mouth was spectacular. The most impressive part was the smoky flavour of the medium-rare patty... not sure how they managed to smoke a beef patty and still keep it medium-rare. I’ll probably roll around in bed for the next few weeks trying to figure it out, but what an awesome meal! This is no joke. When I was having breakfast at another restaurant on Sunday morning... I found myself fantasizing about that smoky Blue Cheese Burger while eating breakfast... unthinkable I n my part... I will drive from Melkbos to Hermanus on a Saturday morning just to have that experience again. Well done to whoever is responsible for this experience... and may I again add a BIG compliment to Chengo. I don’t travel much, and I’ve just met the best and most professional waiter in South Africa... ever!. He’s clearly been doing this for a long time, and it shows... what a guy! OH yes, The cheesecake was amazing.... THANK YOU Char'd. See you VERY soon.

Cafè 1904 Restaurant is a charming and enchanting dining spot located in the cultural heritage center of Hermanus. The restaurant offers a world-class menu with a mix of high-end dining and international cafe classics. Dishes such as lamb shanks, seafood tagliatelle, lemon and garlic buttered mussels/calamari, halloumi cheese, and vegan platters are just some of the highlights on the carefully designed menu.
Wonderful dining experience, which was basically flawless! The ambience and atmosphere of the place is lovely. But the food stole the show! The owner claims to be the no 1 seafood restaurant in Hermanus and, after having the seafood platter for 2, I can’t dispute her rather bold claim! Absolutely wonderful and we’re definitely coming back!! We’ve tried most of the food in Hermanus and this place takes the cake for us!!

Highly enjoyable meal with friendly knowledgeable service. We had a cozy table next to the fireplace which was wonderful on a cold winter’s night. The food was delicious, we tried a variety of starters, Mains and (all) desserts from the menu. We highly recommend the fillet and oxtail, it was a clear favourite for us. A great place to taste good traditional South African cooking/food. The owner is hands on and we had the delight of chatting with her. We even got to ask questions about the food and what ingredients were used to make certain dishes. She was very welcoming to our questions and interest in the food. (All prepared by her husband, the chef) We left with bellies bulging and smiles on our faces. Highly recommend for a romantic date night.

That's too bad I can't put 6 stars on the food. I just had one of the best ribeye I've ever eaten in my life. Perfectly cooked blue with a delicious sauce. The restaurant appeared promising at first glance, with inviting signage and positive reviews, but unfortunately, the experience did not meet expectations. The crumbed calamari lacked seasoning and flavor, while the crispy halloumi was served with vegetables in an overly sweet and sour sauce that did not complement the dish. The médaillon steak was well-prepared and enjoyable, but the accompanying sides and sauces seemed store-bought and lacked freshness. Considering the overall quality, the pricing was high. It’s a pity, as the place was pleasant and the staff were genuinely welcoming.

La Pentola is a chic restaurant in Hermanus known for its great service, incredible food, and stunning views of Walker Bay. Chef Shane Sauvage leads the kitchen, offering a fusion of fresh seafood, exotic game dishes, and delightful vegetarian options. The menu includes daily caught seafood, prime beef cuts, light lunch options, and decadent desserts. Diners can enjoy South African fusion cuisine while taking in the breathtaking sight of Walker Bay's Southern Right whales' birthing ground.
Another one of my favorite restaurants. This place, however..... OMG... The Best of the best. The food is made with so much love, the view is amazing and the staff are so friendly.

Food quality was tasty amd good. Name is Italian for the pan, however the focus is seafood dishes. One italian dish in vegetetian section shocked me. The chicken dishes were tasty. Alex was the waiter....mmm i asked his name so i could use it to call him of need be....he asked for ours which i thought was unecessary and cocky. He had a thorough knowledge of specials which was great, but i think it tool 5 minutes to get through....way long. I beleive your table settings like salt and pepper should match your pricing which os on the high end of restaurants we visited in Hermanus. Please look at your wine glasses they are huge not elegany or appropriate for red wine never mind white. Go to Hasher wine farm and buy those wine glasses elegant and approptiate for wine exceeding R500 a bottle. Would love to have seen Tiramisu on tge dessert menu.

It’s a relatively low-key restaurant that does not overtly attract too much attention. It’s small and cozy with an amazing view of the bay. The food is intricately designed. It was an interesting menu with a unique combination of flavours. Foodies would love it. Overall the vibe is quite chilled and relaxing. It’s all about the food and company. They have an excellent wine selection. A great place to bond with good friends over spectacular views, food and wine.

Guilty to have gone here twice in the last month coincidentally. So good. Every time. Crocodile carpaccio so unexpectedly delicious. Springbok carpaccio absolutely delicious. Escargot good, however the duck phyllo pastry was next level, so flavourful with such tender meat. I’ve had the prawns there more than once and you can’t go wrong. They’re the perfect portion served on a bed of rice. Fillet delicious and cooked perfectly. Ended off with a Lindt salted caramel chocolate fondant which I would go back for alone. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Hermanus! It’s a great date night spot or a family friendly restaurant.

We booked on the recommendation of our guest house host as we only had one night in Hermanus. We rang late in the afternoon for a table for 6 later that same day. It was no trouble and they fitted us in without issue. When we arrived we'd be allocated a lovely corner table right next to the windows overlooking the bay. Spin was our waiter, taking us through the specials board as well as bringing our drinks and ensuring we had everything else we might need. The food was absolutely delicious, a range of starters, mains and desserts were all enjoyed by the six of us, and Spin made sure we were happy with each course as we ate them. With full tummies and empty plates we all felt we'd had both excellent service and wonderful food. We would highly recommend La Pentola. Be aware, cash tips are retained by your waiter whilst tips you add through your credit card will be split by the whole team.

Flea & Street Markets
Hermanus Country Market is a vibrant Saturday morning market located at the Hermanus Cricket Club. Since 2006, it has been a gathering place for local vendors from the Overstrand area, offering an impressive variety of goods. Visitors can explore stalls featuring fresh organic produce, homemade delicacies, artisan breads, handmade cheeses, and much more. The market also boasts live music and a range of arts and crafts.
First time visiting and blown away. These guys don’t mess around. From sparkling wine and oysters for breakfast to all kinds of baked goods, each more mouthwatering than the next. And the most beautiful, fresh, organic veggies and fruits; a peach the size of a mini soccer ball. Best of all, no made in China trinkets in sight. Just 100% proudly South African hand crafted goods made with care and love. They make it very tempting to make the 90 minute drive on the regular.
Jacques C — Google review
First time visiting and truly impressed. Free entry and stalls selling everything from bubbly or beer and oysters for breakfast to all kinds of baked goods and Pizza. There were plenty of hand crafted goods, in SA. The only issue we had was being tempted into drinking a local beer at 11 am.

I love food markets! Food - So many choices The pastry was to die for. Nachos were good not great. Prices of certain food is high (Typical food market) There are affordable food around though and drinks were also surprisingly affordable. The place is busy as every good market is but service is still fast and efficient. There is alot of seating available. Parking is plentiful.

Local fresh produce, loads of interesting foods stalls and music. Seating at tables throughout.Lovely little market, they're going to need more space soon though! The queue for coffee and some food stalls were too long. I bought some beautiful vegetables and some fish dishes from one of the stalls.

Such a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere — filled with local crafts, delicious food, live music, and happy people. Great mix of handmade goods, fresh produce, and unique art. The food stalls are a real highlight (don’t miss the pastries or local coffee!), and there's something for everyone, including kids and pets. It’s the perfect Saturday morning spot to enjoy the local vibe and support small businesses. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Hermanus!

What a gem. Take your time strolling through the isles inside to find unique antiques and other memorabilia. From Dinky toys to Coca Cola collection items. They also have a few military and rugby items outside. My favorite part was the cinema inside. Be sure to phone ahead to confirm their show times.

I loved this place! Definitely a trip down memory lane. Lots of stuff to discover. Beautiful crockery. Watch the movie "My favourite Brunette", had popcorn and a good laugh with the rest of the movie goers. My favourite shop in Hermanus.

What a lovely visit. They have anything and everything you can think off. Any antique item from military items to dinner sets to film 🎥 to old collectable matchbox cars and dinky toy.

Super friendly staff, great retro cafe/bar, reasonable pricing for their antiques considering how many rare items there are. The cinema seems to only be open on Saturdays due to covid which is a shame, however group bookings for private viewings are available which is awesome. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area....

This is the place to see in Hermanus. It’s a shop, where you can find literally EVERYTHING which is collectible (CokaCola-Stuff, matchboxes, model-cars, Uniform-things, and much more). There is a little cinema inside, where old films can be seen once a week.

Bistro
Just Pure Bistro is a charming little bistro that takes pride in using fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced ingredients. The menu offers a variety of health-centric options including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and low-carb choices. From poke bowls to Vietnamese coffee and bunless burgers, there's plenty of variety to choose from. Situated overlooking an expansive bay, the bistro provides uninterrupted views while serving up the finest dishes made with the freshest ingredients.
One of the few bistros/cafe’s where you can see a view of the ocean. Lovely food, with a nice variety of interesting and standard lunch meals. I’d recommend their freshly pressed juices over a cup of coffee though as a bit of a coffee snob, but every thing else including their cheese cake is delicious. I had their salmon poke bowl today and it was delicious with plenty of salmon, radddish, avocado, roasted macadamias and delicious sticky rice. 10/10 for this dish!

The baked cheese cake was truly exceptional - creamy, rich, and utterly divine. The croissant was equally impressive, with layers of flaky pastry that simply melted in my mouth. Both were clearly made with love and care, and it showed in every bite. The dirty chai was a real treat, with the perfect balance of spices and espresso. It was rich, creamy, and utterly delicious.

A delightful stop. Just opposite the cliff path in Hermanus. Outside and inside setting. Little doggie was allowed outside. Very smart inside. The menu is vast, breakfast ends at 11.30. We had brunch. It's called a patteseri, not sure why as the only pastry available was a croissant..it was heavenly though Served with preserve and cheese and butter. Ginger tea and honey on the offer as well. A view of the ocean, added a unique touch.
Sybz S — Google review
A bad experience indeed. We entered at 15:25 and were immediately told at the door that they actually close at 4pm. No problem for us, I said, as we only came for a quick coffee and cake. At 15:40 the cleaner started mopping the floor around us, moving her bucket with filthy water all around our table while having a loud conversation with her colleague who was using the table next to us to fold & stack napkins or tablecloths. More people entered from the ocean side and were told by the cleaner that they need to sit somewhere else as she is busy there. Should cleaning and prep not be done after actual business hours? We had good coffee and great carrot cake within a disgusting atmosphere.

Lovely views but that's about it. Cortado was burnt. Cafe Mocha tasted like bakery Cocoa Crossaint was like an average Spar Crossaint and definitely not worthy of a Patisserie. Banana on my crossaint was not even caramelized. Overall not worth it at all.

This place turned out to be the perfect breakfast place for us. Huge variety of food and freshly pressed juices. The staff were fantastic. Located on marine drive with fab views of the bay. Definitely worth a visit. The owner was a lovely lady with a wealth of information on where to visit in surrounding towns, the whales common to the area, how to get a taxi. She was brilliant!
Dee C — Google review
Great bistro with excellent food. How hard is to make a fry egg? They managed to make it "Perfect". The breakfast was superb, great mushrooms, fry tomatoes and sausage. The bacon was good, perhaps not as crunchy as I like, but excellent nevertheless. Down size ? The coffee. The cappuccino was a coffee with milk, nothing close to a cappuccino l. The coffee as well as the hot chocolate were weak. Prices are in the higher-end, but the service, quality of food and view (just infront of the whale coast) justify it. Recommended.

Hermanus Golf Club is a renowned 27-hole course nestled between mountains and the sea, offering stunning views of the ocean and mountain. The course's unique character is enhanced by Fynbos gardens and the presence of a troop of baboons. Players can spot wildlife like grysbok and other antelope while enjoying the well-maintained course. With its scenic beauty, wetlands, and natural cape flora, it's a favorite among locals and weekend travelers.
it's not just the spectacular golf course itself with 27Holes that has always been perfect, it is much more than that. The offer, the friendly people there, be it the staff or the local members, the excellent and at the same time surprisingly inexpensive food, the whole atmosphere is just right and simply invites you to linger and come back again and again. ❣️❣️this Golfclub is a perfect Example for .. how it really works ❣️ Btw.. thx a lot Louis & your Team for this great Job ❣️

Posting with honesty and no negativity just my first impression: I was recommended to visit for breakfast, especially for their salmon and avo toast, and told I wouldn’t be disappointed. Hungry and eager, I arrived with my Mac in hand, planning to get some work done while enjoying breakfast. The setting and front desk made a good first impression. I first sat in the reception area, then asked to move outside, it was a bit windy, so I was seated in the empty smoking section overlooking the golf course. The view was beautiful and peaceful. After about 30 minutes, two staff members greeted me (this was also when I requested a menu, which unfortunately never arrived). Through the glass wall, I noticed a lively bingo event happening inside -it seemed to be keeping most of the team quite busy. I caught up on emails and social media while waiting, but after almost two hours, I had to leave, still hungry. It seemed the event had drawn most of the attention away from the breakfast service that morning. I’d still like to come back another time and give their breakfast a proper try, hopefully with the same great views and a bit more service attention next time. 👍

Hermanus Golf Club was such a beautiful surprise. The course is incredibly well maintained, surrounded by mountains and ocean views that make you stop mid-swing just to take it all in. It’s one of those courses that feels peaceful but still challenges you — every hole has its own personality. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the clubhouse had that relaxed South African vibe that makes you want to sit down for a drink after your round. If you’re anywhere near Hermanus, this course is absolutely worth a visit even if you’re not a serious golfer, it’s the kind of place that makes you fall in love with the game.

We stayed in a guest house next to the golf course and my husband read about their twilight golf from 15.30 everyday they were advertising for. We went on the Saturday to see if he could book a tee time for Sunday where they told us no need to book just show up tomorrow at 15.30. We come back on Sunday 15.30 and the guy in the pro shop is now saying no it’s from 16.30. Hmm okay the brochure in their hallways says 15.30. Speak to the court Marshal and he says we are correct and will help us now. Go back into the pro shop- no now you also have to be a member to get this discounted price for the twilight golf & you can’t get a golf car at this time. Extremely frustrating with different staff telling us different things and wrong information as we planned our day around this. We’re also here to scout golf courses for our international clients so now we know where to not send them.

Fernkloof Nature Reserve is a botanically diverse area with over 1600 plant species and 111 bird species. It offers 50 km of scenic hiking trails, making it a perfect spot for nature enthusiasts. Visitors can also enjoy landscaped gardens and stunning views of Walker Bay. The reserve provides various activities such as picnicking, bird watching, and exploring the herbarium.
A must see reserve in Hermanus. The staff members in the visitor’s centre were very kind and knowledgeable. The reserve is kept spotless and none of the trails, including the remote ones, were overgrown. There is a large variety of flowers, especially ericas. Some of the many native trees in the valley are labelled which is a nice touch. Furthermore, there are multiple benches all over for one to rest and admire the view and all the dangerous parts have a railing or support of some sort.

What a wonderful little trail .free to enter. We attempted the 3 Damme trail on a cool Sunday morning the rangers at the start were very helpful in pointing us in the right direction and the signage is also very clear as to where to go . The path to the 1st dam was well marked and took 30 minutes to reach at a leisurely pace , stopping a lot to take photos of the gorgeous views . We only did the 1st dam and headed back and encountered some baboons on our return but then just went in another direction when they saw us and all was well. Overall loved the location.

Fernkloof is a truly stunning nature reserve with a variety of hiking trails for all levels. We chose the Red Trail to the waterfall, which we completed in about 90 minutes. The route was not only enjoyable but rewarded us with absolutely beautiful views of the mountains and surrounding landscape. A special thank you goes to the Visitor Centre staff and the ranger on duty: their warm welcome, guidance on the routes, and presence to ensure safety made the experience even better. If you’re in Hermanus, this is an absolute must-visit for nature lovers.

Hiked up the beautiful Fernkloof Nature Reserve to the waterfall and met Mr Tortoise at the start. Then the bench of "quiet contemplation". Lots of steps. Saw a beautiful U-shaped rock formation and we saw some beautiful flowers. Climbed up to the waterfall, stunningly beautiful. Worth the climb. Saw a beautiful gem of a fern. Stunning walk back. We met a Bearded Dragon I think, I named him Steven Tyler. Beautiful walk to sooth the Soul. Highly recommend this.

A lovely relatively gentle 4km walk up Fernkloof loop to get great views of the surrounding hills and down over Hermanus. We saw baboons up close, as well as the wild tortoises.

One of the best nature reserves open to the public. There are many trails to choose from, ranging from beginner to expert. There is ample parking available, with security guards on duty. The also have rangers who are there to hike with you if you want. The trails are quite open to the elements, there is not much tree or shade cover. So remember your sunscreen, and windbreaker.

Stumbled upon this absolutely INCREDIBLE authentic Italian restaurant and I cannot wait to go back! Best food I've had in a while! Highly recommend the Gorgonzola gnocchi, Ragu pasta and Vodka pasta. Also ask to taste their famous cheese - a flavour explosion in your mouth!

If you are looking for an authentic Italian experience in Hermanus, Dal Italia Deli is the place to visit. This charming little spot may not have the ocean views that a lot of people are looking for, but it more than makes up for it in terms of atmosphere and cuisine. Being a combination of a restaurant and shop, Dal Italia Deli is packed with everything Italy. They have a wide variety of goods imported straight from Italy, and their menu brings their passion straight to your table. This time around, we only had drinks (a refreshing Birra Poretti on tap and a delightful Aperol Spritz), but I definitely plan on coming back to sample their food. To round the experience off, the staff were friendly and welcoming, making us feel at home. I look forward to my next visit.

What a terrible experience. Let's begin with the positive: the aromas are what drew me to the restaurant. Lovely store like Little Italy. The decor in store is lovely, and the employees are pleasant, though only to some extent. We ordered a salami panini, which was delicious, but for three slices of salami, cheese, and tomatoes at R135, that's quite expensive. Only the panni, no garnish. That's a really tiny piece!! I requested a pasta meal featuring salmon. The sauce was fantastic, yet everything else was overly salty!! We ordered rock shandy for R60 each, filled with so much ice that hardly any drink remained. The waiter presented a bill of R445 for two plates of food smaller than a starter, along with a small shandy. The server inquired whether I would be leaving a gratuity. No, I didn’t want to leave a tip by card; I preferred to give her cash directly and express my gratitude. In that manner, she  have taken the machine, rushed indoors, and caused a commotion by disparaging us to the other individual. We expressed, "Thanks, enjoy your day," and the man accompanying her could have murdered us with a glance.

I was told that this was the best food I'd eat in Hermanus.. And you know what, it probably was up there... Top 5 but definitely not THE BEST! We started out with some cheese tortellini with mushrooms in a truffle sauce. Hands down the best dish of the night. We then shared an asparagus panzerotti with a creamy pea sauce. Also good, but didn't quite get the asparagus. There were a variety of typical Italian dishes like Osso Bucco, chicken saltimbocca and Porchetta. We opted to share the Porchetta as nothing else really appealed. It was okay. The crackling was burnt to a cinder and the meat was a bit dry. Gnocchi were lovely and veg were rather bland and uninteresting. The Amaretto chocolate mousse for dessert wasn't great at all. Tasted more like a butter cream icing you'd expect to find sandwiched between two layers of cake. I want my mousse light n fluffy n airy. This wasn't it and left my mouth coated in an oily aftertaste. There's a decent selection of imported Italian wines but expect to pay some serious cash for them. We opted for a local Sangiovese from Idiom wines which was perfect and a bottle I'd happily drink again. If you've never been to Dal Italia you definitely need to make a visit. The deli is choc full of Italy's finest. Bring a wad of cash or your platinum Amex. You'll need it. We'll come back again for lunch sometime. Some pasta or a sandwich from the deli. The quest for excellent food in Hermanus continues... It wasn't here.

I visited Hermanus in October and had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Windsor Hotel. The property is beautifully maintained and perfectly situated within walking distance of the promenade and a great selection of restaurants. A special thank you to Madeleine, Leonie and the entire team for their warm hospitality. They truly made me feel extra welcome. My sea-facing room with a balcony offered a spectacular, uninterrupted view of the ocean. The sound of the waves was the perfect way to start and end each day. The breakfast selection was extensive and beautifully presented, with something for every taste. I especially enjoyed the savoury mince, which was incredibly flavourful and perfectly prepared. Each morning, I went jogging along the promenade, and one afternoon, while dining at The Harbour Restaurant, I was lucky enough to spot a whale only 50 metres away. Moments like these made my stay unforgettable. Thank you to everyone at the Windsor Hotel for a truly memorable experience, I’ll certainly be back.

We really enjoyed our 5 night stay at this lovely hotel. It's in the perfect location, right on the coast and convenient to the centre of Hermanus as well as the coastal path. The breakfast was excellent and the bedroom very clean. We loved the sea view and the sound of the waves! Was drawn to this venue after seeing a band called " Definition " doing blues and odd pop rock covers ( who turned out to be fun and many a sing along was had ) we decided to do the adult thing and do a Saturday night out - civilised like! Nice venue , cool fire pit front entrance , great outdoor section , cosy yet not crunched together seating arrangement complimented even further by friendly and attentive staff and a super fast order to table kitchen turnout time finished by an interesting gin selection and the coffee was fantastic as was the American style cheesecake desert . However 80 rand for 6 small tubes and 5 tiny tentacles on some baby spinach leaves as a starter ( they tasted great and the spice on the crispy pencil fries was perfect ) had me donning my raised food cost eyebrow ... The burgers we ordered came with the same delicious crispy spiced fries and the presentation was adequate enough to inspire the hope of potential burger taste nirvana .... Unfortunately the veggie burger my sexy date ordered was boring with no particular specific flavour concentration and seemed soggy . The deep fried haloumi was exactly right and made a great side . In an effort to keep things simple ... I had a cheese burger . The patty was medium rare ,thick , homemade and tasty .. but what happened to my cheese ... I wanted gooey strings extending from every bite like little yellow telephone wires for the taste bud fairies to dance along ... But alas , It was not to be so ... With a menu that boasts mainly burgers, the highlight of the meal should not be the spice on your fries... Was it a satisfactory way to quell my appetite ... Yes Was it a dining experience I would pay six hundred rands for again ( including a generous tip for the awesome staff - of course ! ) .... No .. I don't think so , however I would return for a few drinks the next time a band plays !

I always a great time at Soul Cafè. I am more of a daytime visitor as their breakfast and lunch menu is varied and well prepared, so I have not joined in on any of their live music nights, but I hear they really go down well.

Awesome place.. good old fashioned music from the 60s and 70s and a few from the 80s. Pity the corkage is so much for pensioners. I mean R50 a bottle ... really... Will definitely be back.

New owners, on the surface not much has changed still a great relaxing club. Food service was sadly very slow and only 2 servers for good and drinks, they were rushed as busy night. So possibly more staff on the weekends are called for. Nice to have the firepit outside on. But thought 2 bouncets/security on the door was a bit of overkill for Hermanus.

Great place! Not only is the food delicious, but the music is top notch. Expect an amazing vibe and do not forget to bring your dancing shoes, because once the music flows, you will not want to stop dancing.

Lizette's menu showcases a fusion of Asian and African cuisines, reflecting the culinary expertise of the establishment. Fine dining restaurant run by chef, founder and owner chef Lizette. She is there herself talking to patrons, asking about us as well. She spent 10 years in Vietnam after being head hunted while working in Franchoek. The food is well priced for what you get. Very yummy, professional service. I wanted to taste everything on the menu!

Lizette’s offers a truly memorable dining experience. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed by a warm and inviting atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at home. The staff are attentive, friendly, and go the extra mile to ensure great client service. The food is absolutely delicious — full of flavor, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. The ambiance adds that extra touch of beauty and charm. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy good food in a lovely setting with excellent service.

Best!!!!! BEST gluten-free burger and pizza in my life! Oh wow! It blew away my mind! I even took one pizza (flatbread) to take away. Cannot recommend more! (Dough and stuffing—everything made with love. Truffle pizza (or as they call it, flatbread) … oh, that’s something I will never forget!) Sorry, no photo—we were amazed and forgot to take one.

Lizette’s is always an incredible experience. We dine there twice a month and have drinks there even more, and the service and ambiance and setting is better than you will get anywhere in Hermanus. I like that Lizette, the owner, is always there helping out with whatever is needed on the floor or in the kitchen. It says a lot about a restaurant when the owner is hands on. Delicious food and wonderful selection of wine. The waiting and bar staff are a massive step up compared to anywhere similar in Hermanus and even Cape Town.

I was at Lizettes yesterday for lunch with my boyfriend, hoping for good food and service as always. Unfortunately I did not receive that, I gave specific instructions on my dish. It was a spiced aubergine dish very rich as I know since I had it the last time. I asked the waiter ever so nicely to add less aubergine and more spring onion so that the dish would not be so overpowering. Unfortunately my request was not taken into consideration. It was once again so overpowering with richness I could not nearly finish it. I went up to the waiter with the dish and explained to her. All I got was “okay”. I expect a little more hospitality effort and kindness. Ex remaking the dish or comping it. Not impressed and disappointed with my experience as I’ve only ever loved Lizettes.

Day 4

Off the beaten path
For day 4, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Kammabaai Beach. Not quite as popular as Fernkloof Nature Reserve, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 8 hours.

Voëlklip Beach is considered one of the top beaches in the Western Cape due to its pristine waters, fine white sand, and tranquil atmosphere. Tucked away from the crowds that often gather at Onrus and Grotto Beach, this secluded spot is a haven for surfers and offers sheltered swimming within its sandy cove surrounded by rocky outcrops.
Voëlklip Beach in Hermanus is absolutely stunning! The pristine white sand, crystal-clear water, and breathtaking mountain views make it the perfect spot for a relaxing day out. Whether you're sunbathing, swimming, or just taking a leisurely stroll along the shore, the atmosphere is peaceful and rejuvenating. The beach is well-maintained, and there are convenient facilities nearby, including showers and a café for snacks and drinks. It’s also a great spot for families, with plenty of space for kids to play and explore. Voëlklip Beach is definitely a must-visit when in Hermanus. I can’t recommend it enough!

Kammabaai Beach is a delightful gem nestled next to Langbaai, perfect for families and surfers alike. This expansive beach offers easy access and a variety of activities, making it an ideal spot for both relaxation and adventure. During low tide, visitors can enjoy picnicking on the sandy shores or exploring rocky outcrops filled with fascinating marine life. However, caution is advised during high tide due to stronger currents.
Love this beach!! Careful of the rip on the right though. The surfers use it to paddle out but do not swim there!

Best beach in my opinion on this Hermanus stretch, surf launching allowed on the right, dogs and swimming on the left with rocks that enclose the area to ease current and waves, a great beach for kids and pets (dog friendly) and a good coffee vendor in the car park.
Rene W — Google review
Gorgeous waves for surfing, body boarding and swimming. Beautiful views. Stunning sunsets. Perfect beach for all ages to build sand castles, play beach bats and watch the waves breaking. Rock pools included…!
Mignon V — Google review
If you are looking for a great spot to go swimming or just to have a relaxing day on the beach, then make a trip to Kammabaai. The beach cannot accommodate as many people as Grotto Beach (main beach in Hermanus) and it has cliffs on both sides, making it more private and the waters' a bit calmer. However it is a very popular spot during peak season so make sure you arrive early or else you won't find any parking available. It's great for the whole family as it's basically divided into two smaller bays with some rocks in between where the children like to climb around. It's relatively shallow closer to shore if you just want to wade around, but you can go deeper in if you want to swim - there are also some nice waves for surfers. During peak season there are also lifeguards on duty. This has become my favorite beach in the area and I am sure it will continue to be.

The views here are awesome ! The beach is so nice and clean! I love this place out of season in season it is a madhouse with so many people!
Johann L — Google review
A quaint and secluded family beach with excellent lifeguards. This breach is frequented by surfers as the rocks form a channel that amplifies the waves and there is a fairly strong current to the far right of the beach that gross paddle out into the deep waves.
Viljee S — Google review
kammabaai means not really a bay just like Valsbaai, it was called Nanny beach or Meidenbaai before referring to the maids and nannys taking children there. But thats only because children have a limited space of running around so it is easy to find them, the surf however is dangerous, there are waves coming from odd angles and riptides all the time so be careful

Langbaai Beach, a hidden treasure along the Cape Whale Coast, is a delightful escape for those seeking tranquility away from bustling tourist spots. Nestled between rocky cliffs, this narrow stretch of sand offers excellent body surfing waves and calm waters ideal for family outings. While it requires some effort to reach due to its steps, the serene atmosphere makes it worth the journey. With clean sands and picturesque surroundings, Langbaai is perfect for picnics or romantic getaways.
This is a relaxing beach away from the crowds who gather at the Hermanus town centre. And it's worth it. There's not much parking, but the views are great and you can take a relaxing walk toward the east or west. It feels free and safe (I saw at least one safety officer patrolling the area). The path is paved so it is possible for a wheelchair user to navigate at least part of the pathway. Swimming is not recommended because the waves break on the rocks in many areas and there is also a polluted river which empties into the water. There are plenty of benches to relax and take a break as well as a portable bathroom on site.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 If you're ever in Hermanus and looking for a vintage, cozy, and quiet lunch spot—look no further. I asked ChatGPT for just that, and it led us straight to this little gem. Spot on! From the moment my mom and I stepped inside, we were wrapped in the kind of warmth you don’t often find—like visiting an old friend’s home on a rainy day. The air smelled of freshly brewed coffee and something hearty and savoury from the kitchen—grilled onions, simmering sauces, and comfort in the making. Every corner seemed to tell a story. The iced cappuccino was rich, creamy, and comforting—the kind of drink you sip slowly, just to make it last. The burger? Homemade patty, thick and juicy, covered in your choice of fresh, flavourful sauce. Crispy-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside chips, and a salad that was anything but an afterthought—bursting with colour, crunch, and brightness. But then came dessert... and wow. We couldn’t choose just one, so we didn’t. We shared their famous lemon meringue, a gooey brownie, a generous scoop of ice cream and cream, and the most incredible warm roasted almond tart—sweet, nutty, and perfectly comforting. If nothing else, go for that tart. I promise it’ll stay with you long after the last bite. The owner and her mom (the chef!) made us feel right at home—welcoming, kind, and clearly proud of the experience they’ve created. Whether it’s a chilly, misty Hermanus afternoon or a golden sunny day, this place just works. Highly, highly recommend.

Lovely little museum, easy for children to be entertained while learning about whales. My children really enjoyed the mini submarine which took them on an underwater adventure seeing all sorts of marine life. It also has a bunch of buttons/knobs to touch. This was great as it gave us opportunity to look at the other displays while our children were kept busy. Good for about 15-20minutes with small children. There are other interactive displays for the children too. (Puzzles, iPad games, listening to whales etc)

The Whale Museum, located in center of Hermanus, is a great option to add to your sightseeing itinerary. It is a small museum with informative and interactive exhibits providing fun for all ages. One of the exhibits included a miniature submarine which you can get into as well as another one where you can listen to different whale sounds. The entrance fee was very reasonable at R30 for adults and R10 for children and as it is close to other attractions and restaurants I definitely think it is worth a visit, even just a quick one.

Just wanted to share my visit to the Whale Museum in Hermanus. It’s only 30 rands to get in, which is super cheap. The place is small but quite lovely with some cool whale exhibits. Honestly though, there isn’t much to do. It got a bit boring after a while, and some of the interactive stuff wasn’t working. Still, if you're in Hermanus and have some time to kill, it's worth a quick visit, especially if you like marine life.
Aziz Y — Google review
There's so much to learn in this small space that you feel overloaded, but still come away with the sense of the magnificence of these great creatures. The displays are well put together and gives you a scale of just how enormous whales are, but also that they operate in family groups. I didn't see any offer of guided tours but the museum is well-laid out for visitors. Kids can also enjoy it.

The kids loved it. There's not too much to see, it's very small. There's a lot of reading, but also some fun sounds to listen to, an example of a submarine, puzzles, and games for the kids. It's also super cheap, and you get to go to the photography museum and shark museum with one ticket

Hermanus New Harbour is a charming and centrally situated spot that offers a quaint blue and white harbor experience. It serves as the location for charter whale cruises, making it an essential stop during your visit to Hermanus. The area provides ample parking and is known for its picturesque views. Visitors can also enjoy fishing experiences at night, watching skilled fishermen catch squid with bright lights.
We had an amazing Whale Tour with Hermans Whale Tours. We saw Southern Right Whales, Hump-back Whales, and a Bryde’s Whale. We also saw penguins and cormorants. The staff were friendly and the boat was clean.

Hermanus New Harbour is home to the whale watching industry with many services on offer from the harbour. There are also a few restaurants which makes their home here, but overall, the harbour doesn’t have a particularly entertaining or engaging vibe as one would associate with Kleinmond harbour just up the road from Hermanus. You pay R5 ($0.30) to a man collecting cash at the entrance where it appears the boom gates have not worked for a long time. So who know whether this is legitimate cash collection. The harbour is reasonably clean and it’s good to see NSRI rescue services based there. There is ample free parking.

After multiple weather cancellations with other operators, I was lucky to be rebooked with Southern Right Charters — and I couldn’t have asked for a better whale watching experience. The crew was warm, passionate, and incredibly knowledgeable. They helped us spot whale activity early, explained behaviours like breaching, tail slapping, and fin waving, and made sure no one missed a thing. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and their care for both guests and whales really stood out. We saw a mother and calf come right up to the boat, whales waving and playing, and two flawless breaches — a total dream come true. The drone footage they captured gave us a stunning overhead view too. The boat was comfortable, the tour was well-run, and the entire experience felt personal and unforgettable. If you’re considering whale watching in Hermanus, stop looking — Southern Right Charters is the one to book. I’d recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat.

Whole team were amazing, there was tea, coffee and biscuits available upon arrival for the early morning run. We had a safety briefing before boarding the boat and headed off into Hermanus Bay. We were fortunate to spot whales within 15 mins and viewed 8 x Southern Right Whales in various locations in the bay. The experience meant we saw these magnificient mammals up close for well over an hour before heading back. The crew made the trip exciting, interesting and informative. Thoroughly recommend you take the time to do this particularly if your struggling to see the whales from the shoreline.

Hermanus Whale Cruises is one of the options for booking a boat tour from Hermanus or Kleinbaai to get closer to magnificent whales and other marine life. Despite some concerns about the website and the condition of the ship, visitors have had amazing experiences catching glimpses of whales and getting up close to them. Some reviewers mentioned encountering dolphins and seals during their trips as well. While there were some hiccups, many guests were satisfied with their whale-watching experience on this cruise.
We can highly recommend a tour. They were very helpful, both when making the reservation and afterwards on site during the tour. We had a friend in a wheelchair with us and everyone was kind, patient and extremely helpful to ensure that she and we had the best time on board. Before the trip, I was kindly sent pictures of the ramp and the entry into the boat by email upon request. The tour was so fantastic that we booked again the very next day and went out. We had unforgettable moments and thanks to you: our friend was able to experience her lifelong dream of seeing whales in the wild. We saw seals, dolphins, a huge bird colony on water, humpback whales jumping, southern right whales, mom's with their calves... Again many thanks to the entire wonderful team and all the helpers to carry her on and off the boat ❤️🐳

It was such a lovely trip. We saw 2 whales and lots of seals. This trip is a wonderful outing and very relaxing.

We had an amazing time spotting whales, dolphins, and seals! The boat was clean and very safe, and we were welcomed with free coffee, tea, and cookies. The safety briefing was clear, and our guide was both informative and funny. Truly an unforgettable experience – we’d love to do it again!

We booked the whale watching trip spontaneously but I would recommend to book it in advance because we were very lucky that they still got free places. Price was 1300 per adult, I think they also have a student discount. Our trip took longer than 2 hours because the whales were too far away but they informed us before the trip. During the trip we saw a lot of seals and also some humpback whales near our boat. Our captain didn’t chase the whales which we liked but the whales came close to our boat. On our way back, our guide spotted a dolphin school and let the boat return to let us have this amazing experience. Suddenly we were surrounded by more than 500 dolphins 😍. The 3 hours have been simply amazing and I would highly recommend this company.

Amazing Trip!! The Staff is incredible and knowledgeable very friendly and goes the extra mile to ensure you do get to see the whales and dolphins!!

The staff was very kind and professional. Unfortunately I Would still not recommend this tour for that price. You pay 70€ per person which is way too high. I recommend to just walk along the coast and watch the wales from there.

Quayside Cabin is a charming seafood restaurant situated in the New Harbour of Hermanus. Despite its unassuming exterior, the interior exudes a cozy atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for a delightful dining experience. The menu boasts sustainably caught ocean-fresh seafood, expertly prepared to perfection. Visitors can indulge in generous portions of delectable dishes such as mixed fish platters and seafood hot pots.
We always come back here—food is consistently good, and the staff are excellent. (Ask for Rosalie or Danelle!) Fish, prawns, mussels—everything as fresh as can be, and we love the down-to-earth harbour ambiance. The seafood platter is excellent value. If you love something spicy, then try the mussels in a green curry sauce or the Malay seafood chowder; the latter is our favourite, filled with calamari, fish, mussels, and some prawns.

Couldn't fault a thing, as everything was great from the muscle & garlic snails starter to the platter for 2 mains! Definitely going to be back & bring the whole family to enjoy the platter for 6 :-). Keep up the great work guys 👍.

Visited here on a Tuesday lunchtime. After perusing the menu we decided to share a seafood platter as it had a good selection of seafood including the linefish of the day, kabeljou. My word, the food was outstanding! Deliciously prepared and a huge portion, my granddaughter managed to decimate it though! The harbour was busy so it was interesting to watch the comings and goings. The views across the harbour are spectacular so it's a very special venue, lovely place to take overseas visitors as it showcases South African food, hospitality and beautiful scenery all in one spot.

A Dining Experience to Remember From the moment we sat down at Quayside Cabin our waitress the lovely Louise made us feel like honored guests. Her attentiveness was effortless—always present when needed, never intrusive, and full of genuine warmth. She anticipated our needs with grace, offered thoughtful recommendations, and made sure every detail was just right. The food? Absolutely divine. Every bite was a celebration of flavor, beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. Together, the service and cuisine created a dining experience that felt like a hug for the soul. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit.

We visited Quayside Cabin last Friday, 26 Sept. 2025. Have been going to this restaurant for about 8 years, twice a year and highly recommended to all friends. Sad to say, the food was beyond disappointing. We ordered our usual fish and chips. The fish was full of bones and the chips were oily, dark in colour and very unappetising! We complained and received another plate of chips, just as bad! Asked for the Manager who was not on duty, nor was he there the next night. We were given calamari and steamed rice but this was not what we came in for. Eventually got hold of the Manager on Sunday morning, Craig, and he advised he'd look into the problem and call back. Well, needless to say, after another call to him, were told to hold on and then he was suddenly not in. Left another message! I believe in speaking directly to Management and not to put this kind of issue on social media, however, there is no communication here. Quite clearly, Craig is not interested. We will never be back to your restaurant. The least you could do was to call back. We will find another favorite restaurant. Thank you.

Rossi's Italian Restaurant, located on High Street in Hermanus, is a cozy and inviting eatery suitable for the whole family. Whether you choose to dine indoors or al fresco with stunning mountain views, Rossi's offers an excellent range of options including pizza, pasta, mains, and desserts. The restaurant also provides a lovely kids menu and offers takeaway meals for those on the go.
5/5 stars! Rossi's Pizza in Hermanus is a must-visit! The wood-fired hake was incredible, and the fresh veggies were generous and delicious. The salami pizza was a hit with my friend too! Great staff attitude, cool atmosphere, and top-notch service. I'm back for more, and the 400g rump is calling my name. Highly recommend Rossi's for tasty food and a welcoming vibe!

Don’t bother to visit! Feels like only a certain type of people are welcomed here. Someone please tell me we’re living in the 21st century. What an awkward dinner and the most unwelcomed I’ve ever felt in my life!!!! The dude (posing as some sort of manager) in the front with a striped blue shirt tonight, What a jerk of note! He was very displeased with our patronage and came across passive aggressive and borderline racist! The owner stood at our table but did not say a word to us, however, he ushered in and visited other patrons to ensure their comfort and satisfaction. The food was delicious - thank you to the chefs working hard in the kitchen. Be warned, I was served my ice cream in their worst ramekin (unless chipped and warn out is what they were going for).

We just came back home to Stanford after spending 3 months in Europe and all agree that Rossi’s has the very best pizzas and pastas far and wide! How blessed we are to have such a gem at our doorstep! 🍕 🍝❤️

My girlfriend and I went to Rossi’s on a Saturday night without a reservation. The male host immediately told us there were no tables available and said we could only sit in the bar area on small round tables or at an uncovered street side patio table. At the time, the restaurant had only a few tables filled. We decided to leave but, suspecting racism, we called about ten minutes to make a reservation — and suddenly, tables were available. It was clear to us that the male host’s behavior was discriminatory. As a mixed-race couple, we felt unwelcome. What happened was not just disappointing — it was disgusting. No one should be treated differently because of who they’re with or what they look like.
Andrew B — Google review
Just visited for 1st time . They were recommended by friends recently met. Pizza were cold when served and we hardly tasted any cheese on the pizzas. Both pizzas were tough to cut as the center of the base was not cooked. I ordered extra toppings of aubergine and avocado on a Hawaiian pizza. Aubergine was raw thin slices, avocado was a fairly good amount. Not once did the waitress come to our table to check if we were happy with our pizzas or if our food was okay, neither did we get asked if we needed anything else until we asked for the bill. Bossa serves a better pizza, and at a better price. The staff are friendly and helpful. Plus serves a special after 4:00pm on Sundays. Rossis is not a place we would recommend or visit again.

Perched on a cliff overlooking the lively New Harbour in Hermanus, The Rock Restaurant offers breathtaking views of Walker Bay and the village. Known for its prime location, this restaurant is a popular spot for whale sightings from June to November. The menu features an array of seafood, grilled dishes, delectable desserts, and more.
A great location to stay after a whale watching tour - or to visit for a great meal. Amazing staff. Tremendous view. And meals like in heaven. We had a seafood platter for two and it was delicious. And at fair price for that location.

As you walk in you’re greeted with views of the harbour and a wide selection of seating areas, each with their bit of a view. The menu is limited but the options are all rock solid and don’t leave you feeling overwhelmed. We had the Thai Green Vegetables, Chicken Livers, Calamari and chips, Fish and chips to eat and each were well presented and hot. Flavours were great and nothing disappointed. Ended with Crème Brûlée which was done perfectly and some incredible coffee’s which was a pleasant surprise as normally the coffee from most restaurants is average at best. 100% recommended and can’t fault anything, well done to the venue 👏🏼 We’ll definitely be back!

Hit and Miss Experience at The Rock, Hermanus New Harbour Beautiful view and amazing decor and venue! We had dinner at The Rock, and unfortunately, the experience was very inconsistent. The seafood chowder was a real let-down … it tasted like fish-flavored béchamel with no creaminess and no visible fish. Service was equally disappointing … our waitress disappeared for long stretches, preferring to chat with colleagues rather than attend to the table, and when engaged, seemed more interested in arguing than assisting. Sides were puzzling … frozen chips at a seafood restaurant? Not acceptable. That said, the fish itself was excellent … beautifully cooked, the batter light and crisp, with clean, high-quality oil. The tartare sauce was also spot-on. Desserts didn’t redeem the meal the crème brûlée was a tiny portion with an overly thick sugar crust, offering poor value. The malva pudding was dry, overloaded with ginger, and inexplicably served without custard. Overall, the kitchen clearly has talent with fish, but service standards, menu execution, and dessert quality need serious work. Sadly, not an experience I’d rush back for?

During our visit to Hermanus, a lot of people mentioned that we should give this place a visit. So you would imagine thee excitement. We got here during the golden hour, beautiful views and lovely setup. We put our orders through which was sushi for starters, calamari and creamy mussels for mains. Our waiter disappeared on us, we could see our sushi sitting on the counter. Eventually found our waiter and he brought the sushi 40min later. By this time, the sun has set and our mains have not arrived. Eventually the food came after we asked our waiter to please check what's going on. 1hr later, the food arrived. Calamari was decent. The mussels were okay, but the cream was weak and runny, tasted off (had a coconut after taste) returned the dish, finished the calamari and left. The best part of the experience was the amazingly fresh sushi and the views.

We had a great time. Excellent seafood at reasonable price and good (though not great) views. The mussels and catch of the day were excellent, just the bread was a bit dry. The wait for the main dish was a bit longer, but the waitress brought some cheese sticks in between, which was a nice touch. Great service!

A Memorable afternoon at The Rock! My partner and I had a wonderful dining experience at The Rock in Hermanus, South Africa. The restaurant provided the perfect setting for a special afternoon out. For our mains, I ordered the lamb shank, which was absolutely delicious - tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. My partner enjoyed the grilled Hake, which was equally impressive and clearly prepared with care. We couldn’t resist trying dessert, and we’re so glad we did. We shared a crème brûlée and a mousse, both of which were the perfect sweet ending to our meal. The crème brûlée had that satisfying caramelized top, while the mousse was light and indulgent. The overall experience at The Rock was excellent, and we’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting Hermanus. We’ll certainly be back!

Absolutely amazing! We started off with the Springbok Carpaccio, which I could not recommend enough. We then had the lamb ribs and seafood pasta. The lamb might just be the best lamb I’ve ever had in a restaurant. The lamb is juicy and just falls apart in your hands.

We ordered seafood platter for 2, it arrived super quickly, our food sat for a few minutes whilst our waiter fetched us our plates. We did ask for the extra line fish, it was presented well. We loved the grilled calamari tubes, hake and line fish, everything else wasn’t hot which was a real shame.

Father's day lunch. Lovely setting, close to the ocean. Ordered different meals of which the best was the hake/calamari combo. The oxtail was ok as was the meat balls and mash, the two specials for the day. We were unfortunate to be seated close to an extremely loud patron that basically prevented out table from conversing but I suppose that's the luck of the draw.
Chris B — Google review
Great location overlooking the sea lovely view views and great for both nature watching and people watching!. I was only drinking but some of the reviews have put me off eating food there, plus although the service was friendly, it was incredibly slow. Asked twice for the bill, wasn’t forthcoming, one person serving, three other guys standing round talking. The guy who was serving me at ask someone else to get my check several times as they were too busy engaging with each other. Despite the fabulous location, the level of hygiene witnessed outside was poor, food debris on the floor not cleared up, sugar sachets on the floor, serviettes on the floor, straw paper on the floor, not cleared up, with waiters walking past and not clearing. Tables cleared despite now and sitting there. A shame as this could be an amazing venue with the right attention and care from the staff. See pictures on the food debris on the floor. I mentioned that Service was poor and slow when I paid and was surprised that a tip was still expected. No response to my comment.

Not the cheapest restaurant by far, but the food, wines and service quality is of a very high standard and that sets the prices. We enjoyed the wine pairing meals. What an excellent tastebud experience. Well prepared portions of food both in taste and texture accompanied by good quality Creation wines. On top of that the superb staff showed good skills in explaining the food as well as the wines. Included are a few photographs of the food To us, it was well worth the effort and cost. Visited this place on our first day in South Africa, landed in Cape Town and rented a car to Hermanus. But this place was the first stop, even before checkin-in. There are several wine estates on the way there but this one has probably the most extensive (and delicious) food menu. The steak didn’t disappoint, it was marvellous. The ramen has a local twist probably - don’t expect the Japanese style, but I liked it. Wines and views are magnificent. 4.5 Stars – Excellent: Delicious, memorable, and expertly crafted. High-quality ingredients and exceptional flavor. Service is friendly but had to follow up a few times on some orders

We were very excited to come here, but did not feel that the hype surrounding this wine estate was warranted. Doing a wine tasting in a restaurant where people are ordering food and eating, was not the atmosphere we expected. Siya was well informed but disappeared not to be seen again and someone else took over the tasting. Very strange.... wine was also not above average.

Fantastic location. Poor experience. Went with my toddler so that she can play outside and that we can have lunch. Asked if we could sit outside, which they said is fine. When I ordered sparkling water and on my way to order food, we were asked to move inside as they had a bigger group coming in later Don’t say one thing and then deny service because we aren’t drinking alcohol. I say this specifically as we were only asked to move inside after I declined doing a tasting.

The staff is enthusiastic and nice. We had ordered small snacks that match the flavors of the wine. We hadn't imagined this too much, but the snacks were super tasty and looked great!! For us this was the perfect trip with less nice weather. Inside you can sit warm.

The estate offers a stunning backdrop of ocean views and majestic mountains, providing a serene setting for wine enthusiasts. Known for its meticulous attention to detail and commitment to environmental preservation, Bouchard Finlayson produces premium wines with distinctive character.
We were recently at Bouchard Finlayson celebrating our honeymoon. Their Hannibal wine was the first we had on our first abroad trip together and we promised we’d have our honeymoon there just to experience it on the location! Caroline went above and beyond to make our celebration special! We had a beautiful wine tasting in their private cellar, and they even had flowers prepared for us and an incredibly generous gift box! We are forever grateful for this wonderful experience!!!

A day at Bouchard Finlayson. We were a little taking back with the initial reception and were struggling with the wines a bit. We enjoyed the 2023 Mission Vale Chardonnay the most. The place was excellent however. Great place to hang out as a family. Large grassy area to chill. And then a phenomenal band showed up that brought it home 🙌 Takura Terry & The Rockingsouls. The New Voice From Zimbabwe.

We visited the farm over Easter weekend 2025. We pre-booked our tasting: we did an estate pairing. The process was flawless. It was busy on arrival, we were greeted and welcomed and were able to choose a table to our liking. It was a beautiful day in the area and decided to sit outside. The views are amazing! We enjoyed the Hannibal and purchased 2 bottles. Next time we will order from the menu as this seemed to be quite a treat for other patrons. The service was exceptional, thank you Caroline and team!

What a lovely experience. Very friendly staff and very knowledgeable. We did 2 wine pairing experiences and the olive board, it was so delicious! Their wines are really good too. Definitely worth the visit and we can't wait to visit again.

We had a fantastic stop here! It was. Winters day and sat around the fire! Had some tastings and the little pairing bites were delicious! We ordered some sandwiches and a burger which were very affordable and delicious! Would highly recommend stopping here!

We had a truly wonderful experience at Bouchard Finlayson Vineyards. A big thank you to Barend for taking the time to give us such an insightful tour of the winery, especially during such a busy period for him and his team. The wine tasting and pairings with their delicious platters were exceptional. The whole experience was welcoming, informative, and a perfect balance of learning and enjoyment. We absolutely recommend visiting Bouchard Finlayson if you’re in the area. It’s a must for wine lovers and those who enjoy pairing great wines with quality food in a beautiful setting.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Hoy's Koppie, also known as Klip Kop, is a prominent hill in Hermanus, rising 75 meters above sea level. Composed mainly of quartzitic sandstone and formed over 440 million years ago, it offers stunning panoramic views of the town, Fernkloof Mountains, and Walker Bay. Accessible via well-maintained stairs and boardwalks, it's a popular spot for picnics and leisurely walks.
A quiet place where you can sit on your own and enjoy the view.
Aenimiss — Google review
Beautiful natural area. Stairs, stairs and stairs and more stairs evry where, loved it. This started with a walk up Hoy's Kop, stunning views all round, interesting walk.
Suzarne J — Google review
It's a lovely little path up to view almost all of the greater Hermanus from a great vantage point. There are a feww steps which will negatively impact wheelchair users, but there's great access to the cave and the area has daily patrols from security guards on site so it's safe. Lots of spots for that perfect selfie and overlooking the ocean and village. Well worth a visit and also free parking
Duncan A — Google review
Went to Hoy's Koppie on our Hermanus trip. It was absolute delight!!! Not such a long walk, and fairly easy. Nice stairs and boardwalks. The view from the top just finished off the small walk in such a beautiful way. I would suggest going on this walk before exploring Hermanus, as it would give more of a clearer picture where all the shops and restaurants are. We went in the early afternoon which was not too hot and before the evening chill came out. Preferably wear comfortable walking shoes, bring binoculars, water and of course a phone to take pictures. We hoped to see some whales, but to no avail. Good luck to all the whale watchers. Take care:)
Jia T — Google review
An easy climb with stairs. There are security guards patrolling the walk ways. You get a full 360 degree view of Hermanus. A must when you're in the town!

There is a few paths to take. Such a great walk up Hoy's Koppie. The view is incredible from the top with the grave stones of Mr and Mrs Hoy. Definitely something to do when you visit Hermanus.

Oskars Bakery is a popular spot located in Market Square, opposite the Red Sheds. It offers a versatile and exciting menu with friendly staff, making it a convenient choice in the heart of town. Additionally, Cocos cocktail lounge provides a great range of light meals and cocktails for those looking to enjoy the sunset over the ocean. Visitors praise Oskars for its excellent coffee, pastries, breakfast options, and sandwiches.
Been here a few times now. There's a delightful feel about the place, clean and bright. Excellent coffee plus interesting light bites to go with it. Order at the counter seems a good option. You don't have to wait to be served and you can readily judge how busy it is. And you leave when you're done. Works for me.

Had a wonderful time at Oscar's Bakery. Their coffee was recommended by a friend and they lived up to expectation. Great coffee. We topped it up with an apple slice and caramel cheesecake. All and all a wonderful experience.
Gerardt V — Google review
A hustling coffee shop in central Hermanus. We were on a weekend away and googled pet friendly coffee shops. The weather was great, and we sat outside. You have to order inside, they give you a number and wait in your order. We had breakfast croissants, which was delicious. The coffee was great. The lady behind the counter seemed a bit harried, but she managed a smile when I joked with her. The delivery was prompt and a really nice guy. All in all a delightful experience. Thank you
Sybz S — Google review
I really appreciate coffee shops which have a water fountain especially in places like Hermanus where the water from the tap comes from the mountain. It beats any bottled water and leaves no foot print. Well done.
Haris M — Google review
I have never been one to “order and the counter” when eating at a restaurant, so…. I must mention that the service was fast, and the food was tasty! The location is also good for a bite when doing other shopping.
Richard S — Google review
The food is delicious but the coffee is not that good it's about high roasted
Thuraya H — Google review
There is a waiter here, her name is Mandi. We have been here multiple times and she is rude to both the customers and her colleagues every time that we have been here. Very off putting and unprofessional. Everyone else is very kind. Food is amazing. Thank you.
Sienna L — Google review
Shocking service. They not even full and i had to wait over 20 minutes for 2 coffees to arrive! Service unfriendly. Waited another 5 minutes to get my refund as i had to even prepay. Even at that time coffee still not ready. Don't bother unless you got all afternoon to wait

A lovely Boutique guest house. Super comfortable beds, with great smooth bed linen, loads of pillows, a great walk-in shower, with the en-suite bathroom. An outdoor pool with sun bathing area. Friendly staff & hosts, super simple breakfast served daily. Home made bread & pastries, home made jams too. Many guests just book 1-2 nights as they seem to be on the move with their holiday. I stayed 1 week and it was consistently good. Shouts out to Annamarie & Dave

The perfect place to stay in Hermanus! Anne Marie and Dave are simply wonderful hosts — warm, kind, and incredibly helpful. From the moment we arrived, they welcomed us as if we were part of their home. And in fact, after reading their story, you realize that’s exactly the spirit they’ve created here: a cozy, homely, and truly special environment. The rooms are spacious, beautifully decorated, and equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The location is fantastic too — just a short walk to the Cliff Path, perfect for enjoying the stunning ocean views. Anne Marie and Dave also provided us with all the information and tips we needed to make the most of our time in Hermanus. Honestly, this is the best place to stay in town — we couldn’t recommend it more!

Best Guesthouse in town! If you are celebrating anything , this is the place to be. Had the absolute best birthday here, with surprise decorations and treats. Annamarie and Dave are so welcoming and such nice staff. The room was beautiful and good amenities. Breakfast was also perfect and will be coming back. Thanks you so much guys! Will never forget it.

Really a great stay. We stayed one night in the studio room and it was perfect. Annamarie and Dave are very sweet and help you with all their love to book an activity, for example. The breakfast is delicious, especially the homemade pancakes! Location is perfect, close to the coast and nice restaurants. Highly recommended!!
Menno K — Google review
Very nice stay at potting shed. Good breakfast home made with pancakes or eggs. We only missed maybe some cheese or ham for the sandwich. But we liked our stay a lot, clean nice rooms with a lot of room and a nice shower. Would recommend!
Jack H — Google review
We had a beautiful stay at the Potting Shed. Unfortunately we were only here for one night as we were limited on time. The rooms are spacious and clean and have ample room. The shower was huge! A lovely little touch with the homemade biscuits left in the room for us. Breakfast was delicious. We both went with the pancakes, I do think they were some of the best pancakes I have had. I didn't get to take a photo because they were gone too quick! It's approximately 10-15 mins walk into town where you have a great choice for restaurants and bars. Anne-Marie and Dave were fantastic hosts and Doreen was just so welcoming! Thank you for a lovely stay. Becky & Louis 😀

We were warmly welcomed with a welcome drink. The owners take great care of their guests (breakfast, leisure activities, overall well-being). The accommodation has been beautifully renovated and nothing was missing. We can recommend it 100% without hesitation.

Seafood restaurant
Ocean Basket Hermanus is a modern seafood restaurant with a lively atmosphere, offering a variety of seafood dishes and sharing platters. The restaurant provides efficient service and quick food delivery, allowing guests to enjoy their meals in no time. With an outdoor seating area that offers a view of the bay, diners can savor their food while taking in the fresh sea air. Customers have praised the speed of service and the quality of the meals, making it a standout dining experience compared to other Ocean Basket locations.
We visited Ocean Basket in Hermanus after five years — this time with our little one in tow — and it felt just as good as we remembered, if not better! We ordered the platter for two, a few drinks, and settled in for a relaxed meal. The food was absolutely on point. The hake was flaky and flavorful, the calamari had that perfect crisp bite, and the calamari heads? Surprisingly tasty — we couldn’t stop munching. The prawns were the real stars of the show — juicy, buttery, and full of flavor. We loved them so much, we ordered another round! The staff were friendly, the vibe was warm and welcoming, and the view of the ocean just made the whole experience even more special. It’s not always easy dining out with a baby, but they made us feel comfortable and at ease. All in all, a memorable visit — great food, great service, and great memories. Can’t wait to come back again… and we won’t be waiting another five years
Rajesh Y — Google review
This must be my best Ocean Basket experience to date! There is something very special about the way they do their chips!!! Other branches should take a lesson here. We were warmly welcomed and even though there was a little wait the manager kept us updated until a table became available. I ordered prawn and muscles with chips and my husband had the fish and chips. Both dishes were delicious. Their lemon garlic sauce was slightly runnier than others I have had but it was very flavourful. Prawns, muscles and the fish were cooked to perfection. And then there was those chips, super crispy on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside. It was also spiced so no salt needed. If there is one improvement I would say that they need to keep an eye on their bathrooms in the busy times. But overall an excellent experience and I recommend checking them out next time you find yourself in Hermanus.

The seafood platters that we ordered were absolutely amazing. It was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The service from Harrison was attentive, friendly, and professional throughout. He really made the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend and will definitely be coming back!

The meal was ok not great, a little overpriced. The waiter forgot the pre-ordered sparkling wine for the table as it was a celebration for my friends wedding anniversary. No heating inside, it was a cold night. Not up to standard.
Jeani L — Google review
An awesome experience! Brought my handicapped mom and Sam gave us a table almost immediately, despite the restaurant being packed. It made my mom so happy. We will definitely be back. I will always be grateful to Sam for being part of our special outing. She is kind, friendly and warm. Thank you Sam and OB

We love Ocean Basket Hermanus! Harrison was such a fun waiter and he immediately made us feel at home. The interior is simple yet elegant. The colourful side plates bring so much joy! The small complimentary rolls were fresh and delicious and everyone’s food resembled a scrumptious bite of the ocean. The promotions to celebrate OB’s 30th anniversary are very tasty and good value for money. Bottling their own OB’s soda is a lovely idea! Finishing of with a piece of flaky baklava and a scoop of vanilla ice cream at R25 perfectly rounded off a memorable dinner.
