Old Bridge

Bridge
Puente Viejo in San Antonio de Areco is a charming 19th-century pedestrian bridge that has become a popular spot for riverside picnics and enjoying breathtaking sunsets. It was originally built in the 1850s as a toll crossing and is considered the most picturesque of the two bridges that cross the park. The area also features Parque Criollo, home to the renowned Museum of the Gaucho, which pays homage to Argentine history and culture.
This is an historic location. The roots of the Gauchos, close to Buenos Aires city. Museum, restaurants, horses, etc. Unforgettable walks !!

If you're eager to dive into the rich gaucho culture of Argentina, a visit to the Museo Gauchesco Ricardo Güiraldes is an absolute must. Nestled in a serene setting just outside town, this museum is housed in a historic estancia and features several captivating sections. Upon arrival, you'll be greeted by a charming recreation of a traditional pulperia—akin to the local pub—alongside vintage carriages displayed in the garden.
Loved it. Remote, but wonderful information, timelines, and artifacts from wagons to spurs, mate gourds, those things they threw to bind cattle legs, and many other things in several buildings. The little town nearby has decent helado and a place that makes alfajores and chocolates. I definitely recommend a visit even though it's a way outside BA.
Damon L — Google review
Quiet and nice small museum of the gaucho Ricardo. There're a lot of items about gaucho lifestyle.
Oleksandr R — Google review
Lots of gaucho memorabilia, cost was nominal at 600 pesos. Worth an hour or two.
John M — Google review
This museum proudly exhibits horrific and racist paintings by Florencio Molina Campos. Do not go. I was disturbed and left the place crying. Awful.
Karina V — Google review
The building was made to host the museum, as a replica of a house contemporary to the gauchos. It has a lot of gaucho artifacts and a timeline to grasp argentinean history. Worth a visit.
Gon C — Google review
The building was erected to hold the museum. Up. Valuable family collection. Down. Does not respect all architectural feature of 19th century.
German G — Google review
Virtual Parkour of the Guiraldes museum. It's free and you will see the origins of the Gauchos there. La pulperia, different kind of horses ornament and tools to guide them, some history, etc. Then you can go and visit the rest of San Antonio de Areco.

El Mitre, Bar Histórico, is situated in a picturesque location facing Plaza Ruiz Arellano and just a few steps away from the San Antonio de Padua church. The building dates back to 1854 and holds historical significance as it was the town's first hotel and the residence of its inaugural mayor. The ambiance exudes classic charm with wooden floors, old-fashioned windows, and a traditional feel.
Great food and service and a nice spot on the main square next to the church. Definitely recommend 👍

5 star for the fries! It is exactly something we crave at night time. 3 star for the smoked salmon orange salad. The smoked salmon is too dry and a bit fishy too, but the vegetables and oranges are quite fresh. It was close to midnight but still a lot of people - quite popular place for the locals.

Just had Negritos ($8000ea) no food (kitchen hours and bar hours differ). Interior quirky and interesting, surroundings (park) lovely, staff v amiable, cocktails medium-sized but tasty. Really nice background music (a shame about the occasional teenager riding a 2-stroke motorbike).

La Esquina de Merti is a popular local pulperia located on the corner of Arellano and Segundo Sombra. This restored, historic bar offers a delightful platter of homemade sausages and artisan cheeses called picada, perfect for sharing. The ambiance resembles an old town canteen with vintage decor, creating a cozy atmosphere. Despite the slightly higher prices (around 200 pesos), the generous portions and delicious food make it worthwhile.

(Translated by Google) I had to stop in San Antonio de Areco because I had a family member in the hospital and I asked for a place to eat pizza and they recommended this LA TOSCANA. The place is very nice, spacious, there are tables outside but indoors or inside in the living room and there is plenty of capacity. The truth is, I arrived on the ice at 8:45 p.m., there was no one there, but I asked and they told me they were answering. We entered the girl, a very friendly young girl. A young girl came in with a girl (the owner) greeted her. After a while a man came in, as if at home, and didn't even say hello and started talking to the girl, I suppose his wife, about things they had to pay for in a loud and half-euphoric voice without respecting the customer. . We were alone then more diners arrived. The truth is that the pizza was a DISAPPOINTMENT, it lacked flavor and ingredients. What's more, I took out the ham and left the dough, which was too much. When we asked for the bill we mentioned it to the waitress and we saw that she warned us but it didn't matter to them. Not even the delicacy of coming and seeing what happened. And to top it off on the bill they charge you TABLE SERVICE, I don't know why because they only brought the cutlery. Bathrooms flooded, without soap or paper for hands. Yes toilet paper in a bathroom Suggestion it is a good place but poorly used. You have to treat the customer better. No volvería

Tourist trap. Attractive enough. Ok coffee and ice cream. So-so pastries. Usually packed. Service under par. Unable to respond adequately to customer needs, complaints or suggestions for improvement. To give an example an employee misunderstood what flavour ice cream a 3-year-old ordered. They refused to exchange it (untouched). The cashier/manager shrugged and said there was nothing to do. And to add insult to injury, another employee proceeded to eat it himself.

Balthazar Areco is a vibrant and welcoming spot in London that offers a perfect blend of New York style and traditional French brasserie. The atmosphere is lively, with red-leather booths, antique mirrored walls, and mosaic floors creating a museum-like ambiance. The staff is known for their hospitality and English-speaking manager. The menu features delicious options like steak and eggs served with pommes frites, making it an ideal place for brunch or dinner.
One of the nicest places I've been to in ba. Really welcoming owner read the entire menu in English (thanks so much) , full of local Argentinians and some tourists. Great food and lovely venue.

(Translated by Google) Everything was excellent, the place was very well-decorated, ideal for having a good time. The waitress' service was impeccable, very friendly and attentive at all times. The food arrived very quickly and everything was delicious. As a suggestion, it would be nice if they added some pasta options to the menu; now that the cold weather is coming, it's a dish that many people would surely choose. We will definitely return!

Restaurant
Almacén de Ramos Generales is a restaurant located in an old house dating back to 1850, which used to be part of the Castex family's estate and sits on the edge of San Antonio de Areco. The owner aimed to create a nostalgic atmosphere with antique furniture, rural tools, and memorabilia from bygone eras. The restaurant offers a warm and rustic ambiance where visitors can savor regional flavors through a diverse menu featuring salads, pastas, and delicious lamb dishes.
Food, service and atmosphere 100%. I asked for the sirloin - the lovely waitress smiled and said "that's for two" - I was sceptical but agreed to go for the "media" - and let this old scotsman say " she was correct 😀. This place is 100% - do not miss out on an excellent steak experience and totally lovely service. Thank you everybody here 🙏- now open a branch in Dundee Scotland 👍

Cheese and salami w four spread (potatoes, eggplant, white beans and fries) is decent and great value. The house salad is also fresh. We got the full size of short ribs and it came with two huge pieces - good for sharing among two of us. Taste is lovely, and the lean and fatty composition is perfect - still wish it was a little tender tho :D nice place and cool people here.

Highly recommend. The food was excellent. The menu is only in Spanish and Google Translate was unable to translate a meat entree called “Entrada”. We asked what it was, the waitress was unable to translate to English, even calling over a young girl in the restaurant, who was also unable to translate. So we said OK, and ordered steak tenderloins. Well, the waitress decided she would show us what Entrada was, and brought us a free order. It turned out to be a skirt steak, and it was a full order. So we had a third steak to go with our two tenderloins and fried potatoes. We also had a tongue appetizer and of course wine. Total cost was probably under $25 US, including tip. Plus, they offered a discount for cash.

(Translated by Google) Everything was excellent! The appetizers were super delicious and fresh. The waitress warned us that the appetizer for two was too big for two people. I don't usually eat meat empanadas outside my home, but I did...and how well I did! Delicious!!! The lamb empanadas were also excellent, as were the Roquefort empanadas. The price, including a good wine, was very in line with what was offered. A wonderful place for those looking for a bit of history. The waitresses were all very friendly and quick to serve. We will definitely visit again. (Original) Excelente todo! Picada super rica y fresca. La moza nos advirtió que la picada para dos, era grande para dos personas.
