The Obelisco de Buenos Aires, a national historic monument and iconic symbol of the city, is a 67.5-meter tall landmark made from Cordoba white stone. Erected in 1936 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Buenos Aires' first foundation, it stands at the intersection of Avenida Corrientes and Avenida 9 de Julio.
(Visited in Aug. 2022) | It's an iconic landmark and probably the most famous icon of Argentina, so I had to see it in person, and I'm glad I did! was such a fun visit, and at night, the lights around it make it look especially beautiful :)
Leandro F — Google review
The view is great both during day and night time. We were lucky to be able to see it form the balcony of our hotel.
S K — Google review
It’s a towering symbol of Buenos Aires. Erected in 1936, it’s a commemoration of the quadricentennial of the founding of the city. Through its short history, it has been used to express the city’s sentiments such as *** the capping of its tip with condom during one year of World AIDS Day or *** during a launch of Germany-Argentina cooperation. It’s also the site of Argentina’s Celebration of a recent World Cup Football Championship by the national team.

It is a national historic monument and icon of Buenos Aires. Located in the Plaza de la República. Erected in 1936 to commemorate the quadricentennial of the first foundation of the city. Its height is 67.5 metres (221 ft), and 63 metres (207 ft) of these are up to the initiation of the apex, which is 3.5 by 3.5 meters (11 by 11 ft). It can be seen from far away in the city. Very crowded level terrain, lots of walking though. Cafes and restaurants available. Wear comfy shoes, take water, wear hat, sunscreen.
S V — Google review
One of the major andgreatest landmark in buenosaires. . It is visible from plaza, the Mayo. And is a must-visit when here. The 9th Julio avenue is a long, long stretch, showing the energy of both locals and tourists. You will find a lot of tourists queuing up to take pictures from both sides. Especially the BA also in all the blocks. If he has a tourist, you get lost. This make landmark structure which I have also seen in u. S Washington and in Egypt brings you back to where you were. So it's a very, very important landmark and it's so beautiful. A lot of restaurants nearby. And it's a great visit definitely
Dr.Mohina K — Google review
Beautiful by day, and also by night. You can take photos in front of the BA sign, or across the road from the raised viewing platform.
Warren B — Google review
Similar in look to the Washington Monument but half its size, the 235' tall concrete and white stone Obelisco of Buenos Aires was completed in 1936. Built to commemorate the city's 400th anniversary, it was completed in only 31 days! There are viewing windows at the top with staircase access only, but it was never open to the public for some reason. An ugly chain link fence surrounds the base, erected to deter vandalism. Way back in the day, some people broke in and spilled paint from the windows at the top. OVERALL: While it's nothing but a landmark with a wasted viewing platform, photo ops are good because of two tall bushes cut to form the letters "B A" that fronts the oblisque.
Maui T — Google review
Beautiful monument in the center of Buenos Aires that I recommend visiting at night.

Plaza
Plaza de Mayo is a historic city square that holds immense significance in Argentina's journey towards independence, named after the pivotal revolution of 1810. As the oldest square in Buenos Aires, it serves as a vibrant hub for the nation’s political and social life. The plaza is flanked by notable landmarks such as Casa Rosada, where the executive power resides; the Cabildo of Buenos Aires; and the Metropolitan Cathedral, which was once graced by Pope Francis during his time there.
It is the main city square of Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was formed in 1884. The city centre of Buenos Aires, Plaza de Mayo has been the scene of the most momentous events in Argentine history, as well as the largest popular demonstrations in the country. It is located in the financial district. Several historical landmarks in the area. Very popular place, lots of tourists and locals. Lots of people here, careful with personal belongings. Free entry. Wear comfy shoes, take water, wear hat, sunscreen. Toilets available. Cafes and restaurants available. Great place for photography.
S V — Google review
Plaza de Mayo is a beautiful area to explore during the day — it’s one of those places where the history and architecture really come alive. The square itself is surrounded by stunning buildings, from the Casa Rosada to the various museums and government houses, each with its own character and charm. I was pleasantly surprised that many of the nearby sites seemed open and free to enter, which made it easy to wander in and take a closer look. It’s a great spot to stroll, take photos, and soak in the mix of old-world grandeur and the energy of modern Buenos Aires.
Raul R — Google review
Really beautiful (even more so when lit up at nighttime) and has a really relaxed and charming atmosphere. The square is big allowing for space to enjoy the surroundings. Really worth a visit when in the area.
Kara H — Google review
I went around sunset and I thought it was very picturesque. It is worth the trip down there. You can go on and off the bus with a touchless credit card. Also, the Catedral is down in the square as well, but I wrote that up separately.
Andrew B — Google review
The heart of Buenos Aires and a place full of history. Plaza de Mayo is surrounded by iconic buildings like the Casa Rosada and the Metropolitan Cathedral. It’s a great spot to walk around, take photos, and feel the city’s energy. Many important events in Argentina’s history happened here, so it’s much more than just a square
Burak D — Google review
We had a lovely time walking around this area as there is lots of historical buildings to see. We also walked a long the river and stopped for refreshments along the way.
Alexandra C — Google review
The plaza with the monuments and buildings is lovely to see. For sure a must see, when you’re in Buenos Aires.

A lovely plaza where locals protest the government in power. Also has a fitting memorial to the thousands that died of COVID. It’s very Euro like in its massive monumental architecture.

Architectural Buildings
Palacio Libertad, Centro Cultural Domingo Faustino Sarmiento is a grand beaux arts cultural center housed within the impressive Palace of Posts and Telegraphs in Buenos Aires. It offers a diverse range of musical performances and art exhibits. The center features various spaces including La Sala Argentina for musical and performative shows, the National Auditorium with a historic organ, the Dome providing stunning city views, and La Gran Lampara for exhibitions.
Fantastic place. Lots of options to have a wonderful time. For shows, booking in advance is a must (free tickets for everything, don’t be scammed by resellers like ‘GetYourGuide’). The building tours are very informative (not too long, good enough to understand what the building was, and what it is today). The cultural center definitely is in my top 3 places to visit in Buenos Aires.
Aquiles C — Google review
It is a cultural centre located in the San Nicolás neighbourhood , Commune 1 , in the City of Buenos Aires. It is the largest in size in Latin America and the third largest in the world. It is located in the building that previously housed the Palace of Post and Telecommunications. The idea was to create the Bicentennial Park as a hub for the downtown area and, at the same time, a meeting and social place for citizens, where they could learn about new cultural, artistic and recreational developments. Very popular place, lots of tourists and locals. Toilets available. Fair bit of walking some under shade. Wear comfy shoes, take water, wear hat, sunscreen.
S V — Google review
When you are in Buenos Aires, you want to see this. The building is so beautiful. Also the statue in front of it. It’s a icon you don’t wanna miss while you are here. There are many sightseeing places nearby. Nice to walk in the neighbourhood. Please be ware of your phone. There are bike riders and guys on scooter which are stealing your phone out of your hand.

If you get a chance to go on the tour of this building, you definitely should! There's a lot to be gained even if you don't understand the commentary in Spanish. The tour guide is very good about speaking slowly and clearly communicates much of the content. Having access to various parts of the building, including going into the auditorium and up to the Eva Peron dispatch office, makes the tour worth your time. If you have a chance to see your performance in the auditorium, definitely do so! If you do go on the tour, you need to get a free ticket by registering at the front desk. I recommend showing up 15 or 20 minutes early, as there were lots of people on the tour and the line to get the tickets took a while. You need to show an ID as they do log everyone who comes into the building for the tour.

It's a nice place to visit as it belongs to the historical architecture heritage of the country. The guides and staff in general are really kind and well prepared for the internal tours. Recommended 👍🏽👍🏽

I was told the lifts were not working, even though I saw them being used. Nothing is sign posted, so I didn't know what was in which room and along what corridor on any floor. So I spent a lot of time walking around. I decided to wander to the top floor and work my way down and then I stumbled upon the roof terrace which was cool. The roof lights were light up with colour of the pride flag. The view is beautiful. It's an interesting looking building and free to enter.

What an spectacular place to visit, my Lord! The architecture of this building is absolutely Gregoria and very well preserved. There is always lots of artistic events happening which you don’t know which one to choose due to its high quality!
Ines R — Google review
The cultural centre is quite amazing. They have a large range of contemporary and modern art as well as places of historical value such as Eva Perron's room. The views of the city from the roof is spectacular and the numerous members of staff were very helpful and friendly - a special thanks to Leandro who helped us by explaining in very good English - that young man deserves to get promoted! The centre is well worth the visit but allow yourself a good two hours at least to get the most out of it.

Shopping mall
Galerías Pacífico is a unique shopping mall located in the heart of the city, at the intersection of Calle Florida and Avenida Cordoba. The grand building, designated as a national historic monument, boasts stunning murals and impressive architecture. Since its opening in 1992, it has been home to a variety of internationally renowned stores such as Christian Lacroix and Polo Ralph Lauren.
This is a large mall with a food court. It's beautiful inside, so even if you don't intend to purchase anything it's worth seeing. You can enter from several different points, and it's next to Florida St. which has even more shopping.
Heather S — Google review
This was my first time visiting Galerías Pacífico, and it truly lived up to its reputation as a must-see destination in Buenos Aires. The architecture is absolutely stunning, and the murals throughout the building offer a rich visual experience. With a wide variety of shops and dining options, there’s something for everyone. The Centro Cultural Borges adds an extra cultural layer, making the visit feel more meaningful than a typical shopping trip. Overall, Galerías Pacífico beautifully captures the diverse and vibrant spirit of Buenos Aires.
Mae A — Google review
Galerías Pacífico is not just a shopping mall, it is a piece of Buenos Aires history. Built in the late 1800s in a Beaux Arts style, the building was originally inspired by Le Bon Marché in Paris. Over the years it served as home to the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes and later the offices of the Buenos Aires and Pacific Railway before becoming the shopping and cultural landmark it is today. The architecture alone is worth the visit with its high arched ceilings, murals and elegant design that make it one of the most beautiful malls anywhere. Beyond the shops you will find decent restaurants, a couple of nice bars and the Centro Cultural Borges which adds an artistic touch to the experience. A mix of history, culture and modern shopping under one roof Galerías Pacífico is definitely worth a stop whether you are shopping, dining or just admiring the building itself.
Steve M — Google review
One of the fancier malls I've been to, up there with the Avenues Mall in Kuwait. A food court is on the lower levels with a variety of offerings, and you have your general mid to high tier shopping options throughout the rest of the mall. Place has fascinating architecture, and also has a museum on the top floor.
Patrick C — Google review
If you are looking for international brands or just a place to get some refreshment, visiting Galerías Pacífico to admire the architecture and take a nice break to rest up and get going.

This is the most beautiful mall that I've ever been too! The art is gorgeous, just like a museum! Most of the stores are extremely expensive, but with really good selection! The food court is surprisingly tasty as well! I've had great salads and pastas there!

Teatro Colón, a grand theater built in 1908, is renowned for its exceptional acoustics and opulent design. It hosts classical music performances, operas, ballets, and offers tours to visitors. The French Embassy and Lavalle Street are notable landmarks nearby. Considered one of the world's top five opera houses, it has welcomed renowned artists like Maria Callas and Luciano Pavarotti.
One of the most breathtaking places I’ve ever visited! Walking into Teatro Colón felt like stepping into another era—so elegant and grand. The tour was fascinating and made me appreciate the history even more. A truly unforgettable highlight of Buenos Aires.

4⭐️ for the building, 5🌟 for concert performance of I Puritani, 2⭐️ for the producers who reduced a great opera to a concert 👎👎👎 Indeed it is a very very very poor decision for reducing an Opera to a concert, no matter how good the orchestra and chorus are. AT THE PRICE CHARGED, BUENOS AIRES DESERVE A FULL OPERA!!!! Janet Pratt, who sang Elvira, is an OUTSTANDING OPERA SOPRANO 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗. She managed to act despite the concert setting. SHE IS ALSO VERY EMOTIVE IN HER SINGING…. WOW 👏👏👏👏👏 IT IS TOO BAD, Teatro Colon stifled / MUTED HER TALENT by this concert concept to showcase an opera…..REALLY REALLY BAD DECISION. 🏛️ Buenos Aires’ Teatro Colon is indeed one of the great opera houses in the world. .*** The building is a unique Ecclectic-Neoclassical architecture built at the turn of the 20th century. *** Acoustics is fantastic, the stage is large, the theatre is well designed. ISSUES: 👎 the boxes, meant for 4, is cramped with 6 seats 👎👎👎 the restrooms are very small, they need serious updating

Visited here as part of a guided tour. There aren’t many tours in English, and their timings didn’t suit my tight schedule, so I opted for a tour in Spanish. Although I couldn’t fully understand the narrative, I fully appreciated the stunning architecture, stained glass, statues etc. Everyone talks about the amazing acoustics, so the tour left me wanting to return to see a performance.
David S — Google review
Buenos Aires's Teatro Colón is arguably the world's most spectacular opera house, offering an experience that transcends mere performance. Stepping inside, one is immediately enveloped by the stunning, opulent architecture - a lavish blend of Baroque, Renaissance, and academic styles featuring rich velvet, gold leaf, and vibrant frescoes that transport visitors to a bygone era of grandeur. However, the true marvel lies in its legendary acoustics, scientifically proven to be among the five best globally, ensuring that every note, from the softest whisper to the most powerful crescendo, reaches the audience with flawless clarity and balance. Attending any event here, whether opera, ballet, or classical concert, is a profoundly moving cultural rite that confirms the Colón's status as a beacon of artistic excellence and historical splendor.

The english guided tour is hard to book from their official online site. So my wife and I just went to the theater to try our luck second time this morning, we got our tickets over the ticket office. I had my doubt since I had been in couple of top opera houses in Vienna, but It was worth it. The internal decor is fine with baroque style since there are architect from France. The present Colón replaced an original theatre which opened in 1857. During the tour we had chance to hear female soprano rehearsal for 5 minutes which is huge bonus as I see it, then I could hear clearly pure and beautiful sound at back of the theater.
Zemin B — Google review
The venue was absolutely beautiful and the experience was truly unique. It was my first time watching a ballet rehearsal, which made the visit even more special. The interior is stunning and definitely worth seeing in person. I’d recommend checking their website in advance for guided tour times—especially if you’re looking for an English tour—as entry requires purchasing a guided tour ticket. Booking ahead is a good idea!

Absolutely breathtaking! The Teatro Colón is one of the most beautiful theaters I’ve ever visited. I saw the ballet Onegin here, and it was a truly unforgettable experience - stunning performance, perfect acoustics, and an incredible atmosphere. The audience was so passionate and emotional - I’ve never seen anything like it in any other country. A magical evening in Buenos Aires!

Argentinian restaurant
Cabaña Las Lilas is an upscale steakhouse located in the historic red brick warehouse in Puerto Madero, Buenos Aires. It offers a variety of top-quality beef cuts from their own estancias, including Angus, Brahman, and Hereford. The restaurant's romantic waterfront setting and comfortable furnishings make it a popular spot for tourists looking to savor world-famous Argentinian beef prepared to perfection.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Best steak I had in BA, better than at Michelin starred Don Julio. The added-on all you can eat appetizers was amazing and a great deal, the only problem is self control to not fill up on it before the steak. The steak was juicy and so incredibly tender. The soufflé potatoes were recommended by our waiter and it was amazing. Highly recommend the potatoes.

I would NOT recommend this place despite all reviews and high prices. Best of our selection was salad and sweetbread/Mollejas. I did order T-bone(medium) which was $72000, and it was tough and chewy, i was so disappointed and sad. I thought it was me, but my family ordered flank steak(medium) was chewy as well. Service???? VERY SLOW, our waiter didn't come to us for 20 minutes. Side dishes i'd recommend, mushrooms. Our bill was $250,000 with 2 beers and no other alcohol. Great view on the water.

Fantastic steak restaurant with great ambience right in Puerto Madero. The food was nothing short of amazing, the meat cooked to perfection and the staff was attentive. As is customary here in Buenos Aires, the wine selection was large which made it easy for steak pairing. Definitely recommend coming to this restaurant if you have the chance!

Cabaña Las Lilas restaurant, situated on the Puerto Madero Waterfront, holds a Michelin rating as of 2025. The atmosphere is delightful, the service is exceptional, and the steaks were outstanding, paired with a local Malbec wine, followed by ice cream and sorbet, and culminating with coffee. A truly memorable evening!
Greg S — Google review
My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at Cabaña Las Lilas, and let me tell you, it was nothing short of extraordinary. The Bife de Costillas Las Lilas was absolutely heavenly. It was cooked to perfection, with flavors so rich and satisfying that we came back for dinner just to relive the experience. My son even devoured my Wagyu burger, which is saying something! That being said, there's some room for improvement in the service. While the food was undeniably top-notch, the overall experience could benefit from more attention to detail when it comes to service. Cabaña Las Lilas is undoubtedly one of the most memorable meals I've ever had. The quality and taste of the dishes are truly on another level. We were recommended this place by a local who assured us we’d get the true Argentine meat-lover’s experience, and they didn’t disappoint. The atmosphere is lively, a mix of tourists and chic locals, and it stays buzzing both in the afternoon and evening. The restaurant itself is spacious, with sleek, contemporary decor, clean lines, and amber lighting that also lets in plenty of natural light. It’s a great place for families or large groups, though it’s not the intimate, romantic setting some might expect. What I loved was the extensive wine collection, which pairs beautifully with the wide range of meats offered. Some of the flavours (the condiments with the bread) brought me back to my hometown of Chicago, with subtle Italian influences that I truly appreciated. While the experience was fantastic overall, I think Cabaña Las Lilas would benefit from a more private, upscale dining option. A quieter, more intimate space could allow diners to slow down, savor the food, and enjoy the wine without the distraction of the busy crowd. This would elevate the experience even further. On a more critical note, the service left something to be desired. While the servers looked polished in their uniforms, and the chefs worked diligently in the open kitchen, there was a moment that made me uncomfortable. The Maître d’ made an inappropriate comment about my appearance, remarking that I looked “strong” and then referencing “Wakanda” out of nowhere. I’m still unsure what that was about, but it certainly detracted from what should’ve been a flawless experience. That said, the food alone makes Cabaña Las Lilas worth visiting. It’s a place where the flavors speak for themselves. Just be prepared for a lively environment and hope that your service experience is more in line with the quality of the meal.

Pizza restaurant
Fast food restaurant
Pizzería Güerrín is a renowned establishment in Buenos Aires, serving traditional Argentinian-style pizza and empanadas since 1932. It has become an iconic spot for locals and visitors alike, with long queues during peak hours due to its immense popularity. While some claim that the quality may have changed since it was acquired by the owners of a pizza chain, it remains a must-visit for those seeking an authentic taste of Buenos Aires' unique pizza style.
Pizzería Guerrin is an absolute classic and truly one of the best spots for pizza in Buenos Aires. They do a fantastic job – the pizza is delicious, fresh, and made with high-quality ingredients. The tomato sauce tastes homemade, like it’s made from real tomatoes, not processed ones – rich in flavor and full of aromatic spices. You don’t need to add anything – it’s perfect just the way it is. The place is always packed, but the staff handles it incredibly well. The team is fantastic – I’d rate the service 10 out of 10. The kitchen works efficiently, and despite the rush, we didn’t wait long for our pizza. When it arrived, it was absolutely amazing. Even the people next to us, who had just arrived, were admiring our pizza! The desserts looked great too, but unfortunately, we were too full to try them. Still – this place is absolutely worth visiting. The atmosphere, the flavors, the quality, and the service – all top-notch.
Krystian T — Google review
This is considered the best pizza in Argentina or at least BA. It’s a huge place with so many tables and rooms and staff that it is quite a maze. The staff were attentive and helpful and I have to admit that the ingredients were high quality and the pizza was very good. I did think that is was on the pricey side for a pizza (we visited in May 2025) but it was a great experience and I would definitely return to try other combinations of toppings and crust!
Dov F — Google review
For a foreigner this is an average pizza with average ingredients and a pre-made dough. The cheese is abundant but there nothing that stands out about this pizza. It's cultural and historic that's the whole point. You can try argentinan pizza here to say that you've had it but there's no need to come back. It has HUGE amounts of mozarella cheese which I guess drives people crazy. For this style this place is famous but there's much better options in Buenos Aires for spectacular napolitan style pizza such as Atte. The place is always packed so don't go on an empty stomach. I paid 42,000 for a large pizza and a HORRIBLE glass of wine. That size is good for four people.
A C — Google review
It was definitely worth visiting this place! I must give 5 stars to the staff — even though there was a line, I didn’t have to wait long because they work efficiently and fast, attentive - which makes the whole experience so much easier. I’d recommend trying the pizza with anchovies and their signature one with onions, the half/half option - both were incredibly fresh and full of flavor.
Nataliia T — Google review
It’s an Buenos Aires staple and always crowded, especially outside peak hours. The pizza here is very thick — almost like bread! I tried the Fugazzeta, Guerrin Special, and their empanadas, and honestly, I preferred the empanadas over the pizza. The empanadas taste good. The restaurant i super spacious and can handle lot of people. The pizza comes loaded with toppings, but it felt a bit too heavy, and the bread flavor was quite dominant. I’d suggest ordering by the slice so you can try different varieties. Overall, it was a nice experience, but I might not coming back.
Debby D — Google review
Wow. Amazing pizza. Crazy ambiance. There are three sections, we went all the way back to the last one. For as large and busy as it was, service was fast.
John S — Google review
First time there. After a few questions the server brought us an English menu. Had two kinds of pizza. Both very good. The place is huge. Long line but moved fairly quickly.
Patsy G — Google review
The food here is excellent and the service is fast, especially considering how crowded it gets. The mozzarella pizza is amazing, they put a ridiculous amount of cheese on it, in the best possible way. There’s not much room between tables, and it can be hard to move around because it’s always packed. It’s noisy, but you can still have a conversation. Classic Buenos Aires pizza experience.

Restaurant
Bar
Café Paulin is a renowned Buenos Aires institution, known for its classic porteno sandwiches and bustling atmosphere. The traditional lunch spot attracts a mix of in-the-know locals and office workers, with its huge portions, fresh ingredients, and affordable prices. The bar area is the place to be for ordering the popular sandwiches that fly down the counter at high speed. The old-fashioned charm of the café adds to its appeal, creating an unusual gangster movie-like atmosphere frozen in time.
Great cozy local vibe. Staff are super friendly and helpful about suggestions to non-locals. Highly recommend the Peceto completo and the chicken empañadas. Everyone sits at the counter that wraps around.
Andy W — Google review
This place is a must to live a different experience loaded with tradition and friendliness. The food is extremely tasty, rest assured that anything you order is fresh and delicious, besides the fare is reasonable... and the fries simply incredible.
Frank ( — Google review
Paulin Overhyped and Overrated I came here with an open mind and left wondering how this place keeps a 4 star rating. Let’s cut through the hype: Paulin is nothing more than a greasy, gimmicky tourist trap. The famous “sandwiches”? A big zero. Terrible bread, an overcooked milanesa soaked in oil, and fries that were soggy and literally soaking in oil. Even the napkins are wax paper, who thought that was a good idea for greasy food? What really killed it for me was the kitchen floor, a baguette lying there the entire time I was eating. Nobody picked it up, nobody cared. That tells you everything you need to know about hygiene standards here. Bathrooms? Just as filthy. Yes, the waiters are polite and the plate sliding gimmick might entertain a first timer, but food quality here is abysmal. My sandwich was so drenched in oil I could see right through the paper. The only decent part of the meal was the coffee, drinkable but nothing that saves the experience. And yet there’s a line of people outside, convinced they’re about to eat something legendary. Either they’ve never eaten a proper sandwich in their life, or they’ve confused nostalgia with quality. Don’t ever compare this to a sandwich in Italy or anywhere else serious about food. If you’re in Buenos Aires and actually want good food, skip the circus. Paulin is living off Instagram hype and misplaced tradition, not quality. Final verdict: A greasy gimmick. One star is generous.
Steve M — Google review
What an amazing experience. Fantastic sandwiches served up at the counter with super cool staff. Loved everything about this place.
Douglas P — Google review
It's a place with overpriced burned sandwiches with cheap ingredients and very uncomfortable sits. You can find twice as better places nearby. Don't catch up on history, it's a vibe of cheap place with bad food.
A A — Google review
Don’t be dissuaded by the long line outside. It moves faster than you think it will and once you sit down the service is very fast. If you’re in a rush you can get takeout without waiting in line. A big menu with a variety of fresh and delicious sandwiches. We got the Patagonico and the Mediterraneo de Crudo. Large enough so that three people shared two sandwiches.
Molly H — Google review
THIS REVIEW IS FOR CAFE PAULIN We came to this place because of the amazing sandwiches we saw on Instagram. When we were lining up, the waitress told us they served the same food in both places, thr original Paulin was for the 'show' of eating at the bar. How disappointed we were when they told us inside, after ordering drinks, that they didn't have the same menu - that the sandwiches for four people were only sold next door, which was what we came for. But, the waitress said that we could share one sandwich between two. At $20,000 for a sandwich which was small, it felt like a rip off. $58,000 for two sandwiches and 2 beers wasn't amazing, we did get two 'free' coffees and 2 desserts. Wouldn't recommend this place. The waitress was lovely though!

I went back the day after to Café Paulin after the first time. What a friendly place and what an experience. The sandwiches are made with love and quality ingredients and the staff is welcoming. When I'm back in BA I will make sure to have my business lunches there 👍

Southwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the southwest side side of town. Start the day off with Jardín Japonés, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Jardín Botánico Carlos Thays. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Garden
Park
Nestled in the bustling Argentine capital, Jardín Japonés is a serene oasis that beautifully blends urban nature with metropolitan energy. This meticulously crafted garden is a homage to Japanese design and philosophy, featuring carefully arranged rocks, water features, bridges, and traditional plants like bonsai and orchids.
This is such a beautiful place. A garden I would never expect to see in Argentina. Lots of cool fish. But there’s also alooooooot of crowds so be prepared for that. Definitely worth the price of admission.
Alexander W — Google review
Beautiful garden! Pros: you can take beautiful photos in almost every corner. There are food options within the park, which allows you more time for your visit, enjoying a good meal or a quick bite, depending on your choice. Cons: it is somewhat expensive given the size of the park and the amount of things to see. It is not a park to have a picnic at, but rather a park for beautiful pictures.
C B — Google review
I usually hate giving only three stars ⭐️⭐️to parks and things like that, they need all the funding they can get. But in this case I did it mainly because of the RESTAURANT located inside of the park. It's supposed to be Japanese SPECIALTY but it was probably one of the WORST meals I have had in Buenos Aires! The park itself is a small, very beautiful setting! Quite impressed with the beautiful sculptures that as I find out are made out of local trees that have fallen in the adjacent park. And if you like to walk around a park. And see something pretty. This is something you should do but i found it to be expensive for what it was.And there are other things to entertain you in this beautiful city.
Noelle M — Google review
This place reminds me more of a putting green with all the grass than a very uniquely sculptured Japanese garden. There is so much grass and so much open space. Unlike a true Japanese garden that is compact yet full of beautiful plants. It is a wonderful place to take your family and have a picnic on the grass, but don't expect a true Japanese experience.
Dennis V — Google review
Do not overthink it. It’s not just a garden. It’s absolutely beautiful. Really relaxing and peaceful. Go there with plenty of time to relax. They do really nice coffee not in the restaurant, but one of the outside restaurants. Best time to go is in the afternoon.
Mohammed M — Google review
We went to the large and free ecoparque next door first and then to the Japanese Gardens, it was disappointing. It's quite small and not much to do. They do have a restaurant and a place to sit down for quick food or drinks. The place is charming but it's interesting to walk around for 30 min and that's it unfortunately.

Absolutely Beautiful garden. Cleanliness 10/10, all of the trees and waterfalls and sculptures were beautiful. Very relaxing and serene. They have a restaurant and cafe on site. It is a non smoking area

The Malba Museum showcases contemporary and ancient Latin American art. It is located in Palermo, a neighborhood in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Beautiful museum in a beautiful neighborhood. The exposition of paintings from Guillermo Kuitca (only one decade) was perfectly curated. The two amazing things. The people guarding the rooms were highly knowledgeable of the art, history, and the museum. Second, the alfajores on the second floor cafe.

It's a really nice museum for modern art. They have different floors. On some they have exhibitions and on one they have the art from the museum. Depending on the exhibition it can be also nice to visit that. On the ground floor there is a shop!
Isabela — Google review
I visited this museum yesterday and I really liked it. There seems to be different exhibitions going on all year, none of them permanent, but this is great maybe if you live in Buenos Aires and visit it often. I, as an exchange student, payed half of the entry fee and so did also my mother who is recently retired. The museum has 3 floors, where ground floor counts with the museum shop, a restaurant and maybe a cinema (didn’t really catch that). Open spaces and calm clientele. Really do recommend!
Isabel M — Google review
Not free, but good value. Very interesting collection upstairs. Awesome video as part of the special exposition when I visited. The main information panels are in both Spanish and English, which was greatly appreciated. The main or lower level contains an awesome collection of Latin American Art. Not just Argentina, Mexico, Uruguay, Brasil, were well covered. Including many famous artists from these countries. If you're a Freda K fan, there's a couple of nice ones. Overall, highly recommended. Well done BA !!
Michael P — Google review
An excellent museum in a beautiful building with a nice cafeteria. We saw "Tercero ojo," a curated exhibition of superb Latin American works from the collection of MALBA founder Eduardo Costantini, and a temporary exhibit of Liliana Porter's work. A very pleasant and happy memory. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed the exhibit. Especially the detailed Skull with all the different scenes made of play doh in the skull!

Tres de Febrero Park, also known as the Palermo Woods, is a vast green space in the heart of the city. It boasts several artificial lakes where visitors can rent pedal boats and enjoy a leisurely ride on the water. The park features a poets garden adorned with busts of literary figures and an enchanting rose garden showcasing over 18,000 roses.
Super pretty park with the greenest grass I’ve ever seen in my life. Extremely well maintained. We visited in August so no flowers were in bloom but I imagine it looks incredible in the summer. There are pedalos for boat rides but it was too cold for that when we were visiting. A walk through the park was one of the most pleasant experiment a we had in Buenos Aires.

It’s one of many green areas amidst the concrete jungle of Buenos Aires. This one is very well designed. It’s notable for its Rose Garden that also doubles as a Sculpture and Sculptors Park. An attraction is lake, home to geese and their goslings as well as a few ducks. The lake also has rentals for pedal boats that’s popular to children and families.

There are so many options to enjoy the day at this park. There are boats to rent as well as bikes. There is a lot of beautiful nature to enjoy, including the many geese running around. There are food and drink vendors available as well. The park is surrounded by a walking and riding track too. There is an outdoor gym available to use.

Such a gem to find in such a crowded and chaotic city. Def. visit!
Graciela C — Google review
I went, and I didn't like it much, to be honest. It was like going to an ordinary square, and nothing relevant happened—it was a bad experience. Moreover the grass is poorly maintained and the things they sell inside are a bit expensive which is quite unfortunate. Although it's open 24 hours, it's better to go on a weekend when it's hard to find parking.

Iconic spot of Buenos Aires if you like nature, gardens, and specially roses this is the place to be at. Perfect place for Instagram profile photos. Gardens or Forests of Palermo. Large area of land that brings together several plazas and parks that includes an artificial lake, Lagos de Palermo, where you can rent pedal boats for half an hour or an hour. There is a large rose garden, paths, bridges, sculptures, and lots of green. Ideal for walking, resting, feeding the ducks and take many photos. In the surroundings there are streets closed to traffic where you can rent bicycles and pedal vehicles for adults and children. There are sales of water, soft drinks and snaks and it has public toilets.

Jardín Botánico Carlos Thays is a serene oasis in the heart of bustling Buenos Aires, offering a peaceful escape surrounded by lush greenery and colorful flora. Spanning 7 hectares, this botanical garden boasts over 6,000 species of plants from around the world. Visitors can enjoy guided tours through the verdant landscape, featuring a rare continental plant collection and an art nouveau greenhouse imported from France in the 1800s.

Incredibly beautiful park. Free. Stunning birds. It is next to (part of?) a zoo however, so once I accidentally lapsed into the side of the gardens, it completely took away from the experience and felt pretty bleak. 4 stars with the hope the two are owned somewhat separately
Lucie P — Google review
A guitarist playing harmoniously under the trees. A quiet fountain that held my son’s full attention. That’s the kind of beauty we found at the Jardín Botánico Carlos Thays. We arrived late morning, just as the city started to slow down. It was easy to get there by bus, and once inside, it felt like the pace of the day shifted. No crowds, no noise. The gardens aren’t overly sculpted or dramatic. They’re subtle, almost restrained. We learned a bit about native Argentine plants like Yerba Mate. It’s a short walk from there to the Japanese Gardens, which made for a lovely, quiet rhythm to the afternoon. This isn’t a destination built to impress in loud ways. But it left a memorable impression.

La Carnicería, located in the lively Palermo Soho neighborhood of Buenos Aires, was founded by chef Pedro Pena and his partner German Sitz with a focus on meat-centric parrilla cuisine. Sitz, hailing from a family of Jewish immigrant cattle farmers in La Pampa province, sources grass-raised beef exclusively from his family estate Los Abuelos.
A small but excellent restaurant in the Palermo neighborhood. The sausages as a starter were the highlight. The meat was excellent. Great service. A must-try for anyone wanting to venture into Argentina.

Sat at the bar and had excellent service; was served by the manager. All the food was amazing, the only part it felt short was that the deer was raw; however, he did tell me that he can’t cook it more or less before I ordered it, but I wasn’t expecting it to be this raw, I fly back tomorrow so can’t risk any issues otherwise I’d have eaten it - I should have gotten the strip instead. Would def come back - but not order the deer :) If I could - I’d also order their break and bone marrow as a bigger appetizer. It was delicious.

We had a great experience here. Very delicious meat, excellent service - attentive, helpful, friendly. Everything tasted really good, we loved it! A big surprise was the bone marrow as appetizer with the homemade bread - so good! And the desserts were a good finish. We would come back anytime.

Excellent meat quality, but it wasn't evenly cooked, parts of the same cut were dry and leather, others were tender and juicy. The chorizo and morcilla sausages were good, but the stuff on the side felt redundant. The French fries, not my thing, were excellent. Good amount of food. The staff was too busy and slow.

This is one of my favorite restaurant anywhere. Spectacular food, friendly and attentive service even when the place is packed. I hate there 3 times and every time it was absolutely lovely. The steak, the beef rib, the sweetbreads, the bone marrow, everything was world class. For sure, when I get back to Buenos Aires, I'm stopping by for another of these meals I'll remember for a long long time.

It was a shock what happened to me… i was there before they opened when they were open I was the second person to be seated on the bar which I can see everything the staff was so friendly and welcoming however the chef had some problem with me I can’t understand it until now my steak took one hour and 20 minutes to be served to me people who came after me by 20 minutes and seated got there steak before me and the chief made sure that i got the worse one cut and size!!! A message to the chef you can’t judge people by the way they look or by the way they like their meat cooked this is a terrible way to treat your customers in a place which was the winner of a Michelin star of 2024 I went out of my way to give a 20% tip because of your wonderful staff which honestly you don’t deserve them… was there on 10/30/2025 and will never come again.

El Preferido de Palermo has a fascinating history that dates back to the early 20th century, when it was a popular grocery store frequented by tango singers, poets, artists, and gauchos. Over the years, the space has been restored by the Zoppi family, uncovering a treasure of old memories and a wine cellar with more than 2.
Really good service! Natasha, our waitress, was very attentive and super nice. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. We shared everything and left feeling full :) It is on the expensive side, but both the food and the service are totally worth it.

Located in Palermo, one of the most well-known neighborhoods in Buenos Aires, this restaurant is a must-visit. It offers local charm, excellent service, a warm, welcoming atmosphere, and most importantly, delicious Argentine gastronomy and a great wine selection. I stopped by for an early dinner without a reservation, and the front desk staff was super friendly—they gave me a few different seating options to choose from, which was great. I ordered a gin and tonic and got to pick from a nice list of gins. For food, I went with the Canelones, and they were amazing—especially with the tasty red sauce. I finished with the flan, which was the perfect classic dessert. Service was awesome—my server, Rodrigo, was really helpful, gave great suggestions, and made the whole visit totally worth it.

We just dropped by and had our light lunch. The blood sausage is incredibly delicious. Salad is very nicely seasoned and bread with lemon olives oil is a nice touch. Lemonade is very refreshing and tasty. Tortillas is okay. In general, price is slightly higher but a great experience.

Without a doubt an absolute MUST for Buenos Aires! We arrived on a Monday at 7:30pm, the staff were so attentive and without a reservation we waited for about 20min only which was fine, especially as they give you a waiting drink, delish! We were seated at the bar which I would highly recommend because watching the Chefs in action was a work of art. We saw every dish coming out and it was perfection, and everything we ordered tasted amazing, I wish we could have ordered more and hope we can come back before we leave. Complementary housemade bread and olives to start, so classy. Wine from Mendoza was delish and then as a surprise (because the chefs probably saw how much we were enjoying ourselves) they gave us desert on the house which was the cherry on top! If we were locals, this would be our weekly spot!!

Restaurant
Fast food restaurant
La Cocina, a long-time favorite in San Telmo, is led by the renowned chef Leandro Lele Cristobal and his right-hand Mercedes Solis. The restaurant is famous for its Argentine dishes with Spanish and Italian influences, such as pastas and milanesas. Additionally, visitors can stop by La Vermuteria at the front of the restaurant for quick bites or visit the small vermouth bar and tapas at Cafe San Juan.
This place is incredible! Such lovely staff really keen to talk about their family business and how things are in Buenos Aires in 2025! The picachu empanada is famous for a reason! The sweet and smoky flavour is a secret they guard with jest! Highly, highly recommended!

I would come here everyday of my life if I could. Laid back atmosphere, amazing flavors and empanadas. Simple and perfect. The spicy beef wasn’t too spicy and I highly recommend

One of those places worthy of the food blogs hype. On a Tuesday afternoon the line was short. I got the beef and the “piccachu”, each worthy and full of flavor. Piping hot. Dough uniquely Argentinian. Left extremely satisfied. 2-3 USD each. Don’t expect kindness, it’s quick and go, as a city should be.

Great little Empanada place. Looks old and authentic. Nice interior. Due to the Fernet sign I tried to order one but they don’t have. Quite busy. Yummy food!
Ralph S — Google review
Those were great empanadas but nothing insane. I think I had better some other places. I only really liked the beef ones, the rest is just okay. The owner/person working there is super friendly and fun. Great service and lovely people.
Hussein A — Google review
Such a great spot! Empanadas are fresh and delicious. Friendly service too.

Don't listen to 1 star reviews as most of them love judging books by their cover and expect such businesses to spend hard earned money on looks and comfort instead of the food! I came at 730pm when they just opened up and everything served was served straight out of the oven! Caution it's going to hot so break it in half and let the steam escape! The reviews will mention Pikachu over and over and they are all correct it's amazing! MUST TRY! I had the beef and chicken as well which were great but the Pikachu and Flan were simply fantastic!
Shahveer P — Google review
The food was incredible. We tried the chicken, beef and spicy beef empanadas. All were very delicious. We also had a piece of apple pie, which was delicious. The service was quite friendly and the food came quickly. The atmosphere is very unique and nostalgic. I did find that the restaurant was a bit dirty overall. Dirty tables and used napkins all over the floor. The only beverage offered was water. No pop or beer available, which for a restaurant I found strange. No bathroom availability.
