Beaches
Watch Hill Beach, also known as Carousel Beach, is a family-friendly destination located in the southwestern Rhode Island area. It offers a seasonal "flying horse" carousel where riders can catch rings as it spins. The beach is centrally located near downtown and is ideal for swimming and sunbathing on its soft sand shore.
Absolutely love this beach ⛱️!! We've been going here for over 30 yrs and I still love it just as much. I enjoy the 2 hrs of free parking ;) on the street. It could cost up to 50-60$ dollars to park for the day. Beautiful harbor . Just a dream

Peaceful beach and very clean and quiet. Great place to bring the kids. Be prepared to pay to park and to enter the beach. Well worth it!
Michael M — Google review
One of the best beaches! Bay side for toddlers and ocean side for bigger waves. Parking in Watch Hill is a challenge so be prepared to pay or walk. Or find a friend with a boat!
Nicole E — Google review
I have been visiting Watch Hill Beach for seven years, and when my family and I first discovered it, we felt we had found a true treasure. Before I proceed with my review, I want to address some negative comments I’ve encountered regarding the locals. In my experience over the years, I have never encountered any rude locals; they have always been warm and welcoming. Like any destination, if you behave loudly and disruptively, you may not be welcomed. Now, regarding my review: We have always enjoyed our time there because of the friendly locals, delicious food and coffee, and the ability to relax while listening to the waves and watching families and friends enjoy themselves. I’ve always been very hesitant to go to the beach on July 4th because of how busy it can get. My best friend and I decided to go on July 4th 2025 and it did not disappoint us at all!!! We had such a great time, we found a great spot to sit back, relax, and enjoy. There is no beach like Watch Hill. I’ve traveled to many of them, but none compare to this one. Also, shout out to the parking attendants who do a phenomenal job ensuring all the cars are parked correctly and the ease of leaving the parking lot. Thank you!!

I’m in love with this awesome little town. Beaches are beautiful, the lighthouse museum is pretty cool.

The Watch Hill Yacht Club is an impressive three-story building located in a picturesque cove, offering a commanding view of the boats and sunset from its dining room. Visitors have praised the good food, friendly service, and well-maintained yachts. The club features a private dock with a small beach and offers various membership programs. It is described as a beautiful location with friendly staff and clean facilities, making it an ideal spot for both boat owners and those looking to enjoy the stunning views.
Historic & Beautiful building in Watch Hill, really nice & worth a visit. We shopped around here and really liked it. Highly recommended!

Looks clean and not too ostentatious. Didn't encounter unfriendly people. Yachts appear serviceable and well maintained. Staff is uniformed and there is a private dock with a tiny beach. Some might characterize the beach as itty bitty.

Sights & Landmarks
Historic Sites
The Flying Horse Carousel at Watch Hill Beach is a historic attraction, dating back to 1883 and considered one of the oldest continuously operating carousels in the United States. This classic carousel features hand-carved wooden steeds suspended from a center frame, allowing them to "fly" as the ride turns. While only children under 12 can enjoy the carousel, visitors of all ages can appreciate its artisanship and unique design.
A family tradition, always followed by a hot dog from The Annex. Don't forget to peek at T-Swift's place near Watch Hill (which is the house/story told about in her song "The Last Great American Dynasty").
Emily K — Google review
$4 per ride for the “outer” horses and $1 per ride for the interior horses. The outer horses allow you to reach out and snag a metal ring from the metal ramp. If you get the golden ring you earn a free ride. You have to reach quite far and it’s probably best for ages 6+, in my experience. We had a 5 yo and a 7 yo and the 5 yo missed the majority of the rings but did get 2-3.
Amy B — Google review
Parking is a nightmare! Carousel is fun, and prices are very good, but was disappointing that the carousel was playing modern pop music, instead of traditional carousel calliope music.
Bethany S — Google review
$1 horse rides ! $4 on the outside so you can get the “golden ring” for a free ride. Kids enjoyed it. Parking might be tough… but went on the way out after the beach.
Jay P — Google review
Ahhhhh nostalgia!! Went on this as a small child, took my kids, & can't wait to take my granddaughter and future grandkids some day.🥰 No long wait the day we went. There can be a wait depending on how busy.

I put 4 years of my time into lifeguarding for the Merry-Go-Round beach here, and the owner still tried to charge me the standard rate to come onto the beach when I came back the next summer as a visitor. LOL. I convinced him (Jim & Deedee Buffum are the owners btw) to let me on for free. Personal reasons aside: coming here is not worth the price unless you taking your (very) young kids for a beach day or you’re an elderly person. East Beach is just up the hill for FREE FYI! If you have capable walking legs you can save upwards of $50 you might’ve spent here for entry, umbrellas, chairs….

Nestled in the charming Watch Hill area, St. Clair Annex Inc is a beloved family-run establishment that has been delighting visitors for over 135 years. This quaint counter service spot specializes in small-batch ice cream made fresh daily, offering an array of tantalizing flavors like black raspberry chocolate chip and peach cobbler.
A nice, light clam chowder (I ordered it New England style but they did have the clear Rhode Island style) and crinkle-cut fries. Not to be outdone, the fries were great. Seemed to be a pretty popular spot, which makes sense considering the location, but the food was solid in its own right.
Cain — Google review
Sweet and creamy ice cream! They offer really delicious seasonal flavors (I got the chocolate mint Oreo). The shop itself is cute and has pretty decor that matches the coastal aesthetic. Their prices are a bit on the higher end, but they have fast service. If you’re looking for a quick treat in the area, check it out!

Perfect beach food. Don’t hesitate. The line speaks for itself. Cold lobster roll with generous large meat chunks and toasted roll. Crinkle cut beach fries on the side!! Italian sub with crisp water style baguette shredded lettuce, vinaigrette and hots. Clean casual seaside place. Refreshing and delicious!
Renee P — Google review
Pricey but paying for convenience. Food items and ice cream (including soft serve) is available! There is inside seating as well as outside (with water available inside and a few different sauces)
Shirah M — Google review
Lobster roll was $32 with hardly any meat—disappointing. Then again it’s Watch Hill, high prices are to be expected. I won’t be ordering food here again, but might come back for ice cream.
Brian M — Google review
You're in Watch Hill, so expect it'll be pricey. And there is often wait and a chaotic line. There are usually 4 windows but often there's is no single line, you just kind of grab a spot behind whatever window is open. The lobster roll is worth every penny. The fries are the crispiest. Both so good. The DF coconut mango ice cream was good but mostly coconut, not even a hint of mango. I don't think I took any food pictures though!
Nicole E — Google review
The steak and cheese sandwich was literally the best sandwich I've ever eaten. It had the best ratio of bread, meat and cheese ratio. The bread was the perfect level of toast and had the right thickness to spotlight the filling. I highly recommend it❤️❤️ best 12 incher ever!! ❤️

I’ve been coming here for 30 years and their watermelon sherbet remains the best I’ve ever had. I don’t live nearby anymore, but still try to make it for a swim at East Beach and an ice cream once a year. It has also remained super reasonably priced by Watch Hill standards throughout the decades.

Seafood restaurant
Located in Watch Hill, the Olympia Tea Room has been a beloved fixture since 1939. This classic family-owned restaurant offers nostalgic details and a menu featuring New England favorites. The establishment boasts antique mahogany booths and bay views, making it a charming spot to enjoy dishes like linguini with roasted clams and Portuguese baked haddock. While reservations are not accepted, the wait is worthwhile for those looking to savor the old-world charm of this historic gem.
First, a shout out to our server Kalee, who was wonderful. Looking at other reviews, there are a minority of people who had bad experiences, but we must have hit a good night, because the food, atmosphere and service were all top notch. The specials were rather pricey, so we stuck with the menu items. We started with Crisp Zucchini Ribbons, which we both loved. I had the Portuguese Baked Haddock, which was spicy and delicious, and my wife had the roast chicken, which was delectable and so big that I got to finish about a third of it. Dessert was ridiculously good!

Surprisingly, I was quite disappointed by Olympia tea room my first time here. We were sat down in a booth towards the back, and this is where the issues started. I’m not sure if it’s just that part of the restaurant, but they seem to have a fly problem. The entire meal, flies were relentlessly buzzing around us and It was very irritating. Secondly, the staff are not very friendly, our waitress was okay this time. However, two of us had been there before and said that their waitress was extremely rude. Third issue was the food itself. I got the halibut special and another person in my party got the duck. The orange sauce on the duck was delicious, but the duck itself was extremely overcooked and nearly inedible. The halibut had a beautiful sear, but the fish itself was extremely bland and the sauce included lacked flavor. The vegetables were also very bland. I really wanted to like Olympia Tea room but I was very disappointed. I don’t think I would return here or recommend it to anyone visiting.

Always consistent when it comes to quality food & tremendous atmosphere. My favorite cocktail here is the cantaloupe martini, goes down ridiculously easy & the wife got a blood orange margarita that was equally delectable & btw, both were high potency! Menu items are all great, so it's tough to choose. I opted for the Portuguese haddock & my w8fe got the fish & chips, both were excellent & cooked perfectly. While not cheap, the portions are large & considering where you are....worth it. My only nit pick (& we come here often) is we always seem to get the one server who isn't having their best day, nothing rude of course, just not overly engaging & friendly.
Allan D — Google review
This cozy and charming restaurant is located in Watch Hill by the Yacht Club and trendy shops. The food is outstanding and our server Melissa, the past three visits was excellent, too. She is kind and friendly and makes you feel at home and welcomed. The Spinach and fresh Fruit Salad with Citrus dressing has fresh oranges and grapefruit in it along with cashews and is my favorite first course. Next, I enjoy the BEST CLAM CHOWDER in New England. Better than Boston's best restaurants. Each entree has been delicious. Being from Florida I appreciate great Key Lime Pie. The Olympia's is as good as the famous Key West recipe and Joe's in Miami Beach. We go weekly to enjoy this fabulous dessert made fresh daily with real key limes and fresh whipped cream. I have not tasted better anywhere! Not only is this a GEM of a place to have a memorable lunch or dinner, but if you time it right, you can also enjoy a beautiful sunset that will take your breath away.
Darlene B — Google review
Really enjoyed our Dinner after enjoying walk around town. Especially enjoying the clam chowder, which I enjoyed tasting everywhere on menus. We also enjoyed the zucchini Ribbons appetizer and especially the watermelon salad. The Pasta with marinara and sausage was delicious. Our waitress, Malissa was very helpful, engaged and added to making our meal memorable.
Don D — Google review
Recently ate at Olympia Tea Room with my husband during a recent weekend trip to RI. The restaurant is located in downtown Watch Hill, but unless you have a window seat or you’re sitting outside, you don’t really get much of a view of the water, if that’s something you’re looking for. The interior of the restaurant is very cool. Dark wood, very old New England. There is history in this restaurant, which we appreciated. We arrived early on a Saturday and were starving after a long day of mansion tours in Newport. We were seated promptly and got lucky with a window seat. The service, like the food, was “fine.” Not amazing, not horrible. My husband got the pizza appetizer and said it was good…we are from the NYC area, so we are pizza snobs. I had the avocado carpaccio, which was refreshing and satisfying. We both had a burger as our entree, and they were, again, fine. The bun was dry and the burger was well done when I had requested medium, but it wasn’t horrible. All this to say, the prices for food that is just “fine” are absolutely outrageous. My husband and I live right outside the culinary capital of the country, and the prices at Olympia Tea Room match those of NYC, but the quality is lacking. I understand that it’s Watch Hill, and I don’t mind paying extra for great food and service, but I’ve eaten at many excellent restaurants in wealthy parts of the Jersey shore that, while not inexpensive, deliver in both food and service and justify their prices. I feel like there is such a huge opportunity to make this an absolute knock-your-socks-off restaurant, and it’s really just missing the mark. Our table wasn’t entirely clean upon arrival, my fork was dirty, and while I know it isn’t supposed to be a “fancy” restaurant, the details are important when charging the prices that they charge. Something that rubbed me the wrong way was that there were two guests that were leaving while we were eating. One was an elderly guest with mobility issues. One of the staff members (hostess, manager, not sure…she wasn’t a server) moved out of their way, but did not take the extra step to open the door for the guest with mobility issues (they had a walker). The woman just looked at them as they left. Not a huge deal, but it doesn’t matter what type of restaurant it is…if you see an older guest (or any guest) who has trouble walking, you should hold the door open for them instead of standing near them and watching them leave. Olympia Tea Room has a lot of potential, but unfortunately, this is a one and done for us.
Gina A — Google review
I'm doing this review for this summer season('25) that we were visiting Watch Hill/ Napatree. I continued to hope for a better experience each time(4 visits) we dined The Tea Room but it consistently stayed the same, unfortunately. This has been the BEST part of our summers for the past 20 years w/ our son. This year it was busy as expected and they do not take reservations so we are not surprised for a 45 min- 1 hour wait. We get a drink at the bar while we wait, sometimes a seat opens at bar, others wise we hang out to wait on our table. Each time we had a wait and each time no one wanted to serve us a drink at the bar. No greeting, no eye contact and it seemed like we were bothering them. Our last visit, the young man with his 4 friends sitting at the bar turned to me to ask if I wanted him to order a drink for my husband & I since it wasn't crazy busy but noticed the lack of service and acknowledgement of us.I said no to see if the bartenders were going to even bother to ask since they were standing around. Finally after patiently waiting we were asked what we wanted but not with hospitality. This was consistently the treatment EACH time we were there this season. If they don't want people standing to get a drink at the bar they need to tell hostesses to make customers aware of that. Then they need to take reservations! Another situation... a group of 5 of us went to put our name in for the wait and we were told we could not put our name in because they did not have room for 5people, not even given the option to wait. Shocking!! Another situation... my son's girlfriend & I were standing at bar waiting to order 3 pear martinis & a beer. We waited and waited to not only get service but JUST to be acknoweded. The man bartending WAS busy but was also chatting for awhile w/ bar customers until it took me to jump in to FINALLY get service. I was so embarrassed since I bragged how great the pear martinis were there. When we got our cocktails, no fresh pairs in any of ours as I watched other customers get a garnish. We have no problems that bar tab totaled $75.00 but for that kinda of service & the lack of. We shoulda just not gone back... So the 2 is for consistency. We get the crispy chicken over greens, pear martinis and swan. Its good, not AMAZING, always the same but not worth the treatment as if we are a bother and not wanted there. We'll get an Uber to Misquamicut next time to spend 20.00 for a martini.

When in Watch Hill, don't miss the Verandah Raw Bar for a delightful dining experience. This seasonal spot offers a full raw bar and serves up traditional Rhode Island and New England dishes, including fresh seafood, soups, salads, and sandwiches. The elegant concept and outdoor seating make it perfect for enjoying warm weather or catching stunning sunsets. With its focus on local seafood and excellent service, it's a true sea-to-table affair that shouldn't be missed during your visit to Watch Hill.
Had the opportunity to visit Verandah Raw Bar this weekend and it was such a lovely experience! The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. Our server, Luka, was amazing—so kind and so friendly. I have a shellfish allergy, and he went out of his way to ensure I felt safe and comfortable. We even had a nice little chat in Spanish, which made the experience even more special. ¡Gracias, Luka! :) I had the veggie burger, and I must say—it was absolutely delicious. I’m definitely hoping to come back soon, maybe earlier in the afternoon to enjoy some drinks and soak in the beautiful view. Highly recommend this spot!

A beautiful setting, a fantastic hotel, and a wildly disappointing dining experience. We will not be coming back. We have been coming to the Ocean House for about ten years, and my family has lived in the area each summer for over 50 years. This was the worst celebratory dinner out we have ever had in the area. Westerly is getting better and better when it comes to dining options, this includes “downtown” or in Watch Hill itself. The Verandah Raw Bar is not only very expensive, but the service is non-existent, and the food is unfit for a cafeteria nevermind a $100+ per person dinner. We had raw bar items that were warm, which was concerning to say the least, however the real let downs among the appetizers we ordered were 1) the grey, anemic bluefish pate which frankly was an incredibly gross color and 2) the tuna tartar which we had to send back because it was inedible. There is no reason to eat grey, smelly raw fish for a birthday dinner. I wouldn’t wish that tuna tartar on my worst enemy, so I obviously wouldn’t (willingly) subject my family to it. For entrees one of the items we ordered, the catch of the day, never arrived. We confirmed that the waiter never wrote it down. The rest of the items that arrived were all completely without flavor. Fortunately that was an improvement from the first course, as we were unlikely to get food poisoning from anything that we got for our second course. The $30 Christopher beef sandwich, was exactly as bad as a previous reviewer noted — grey, overcooked, no onions, and largely devoid of flavor. The pair of $48 cold lobster rolls we ordered, which the kitchen was kind enough to split for us, also had no flavor. I think a $48 lobster roll should include tail meat, and again a little flavor would be nice. For sides, we kindly requested an order of French fries as that’s what our birthday boy was hoping for. The waiter flatly refused, stating those were only offered inside. I cannot fathom how a waiter wouldn’t attempt to get the kitchen inside to make an order of French fries for someone’s birthday. Instead of fries we had potato salad and coleslaw, both were literally unseasoned. Hard, undercooked potatoes and mayo, with no salt or seasoning and seemingly undressed shredded cabbage. By the time we finished our entrees we decided it was not worth staying any longer. Despite our desire to leave, the server was kind enough to bring a comped dessert, which we didn’t ask for, and didn’t like. There is no other way to describe it, store-bought cupcakes. $370+ later, before gratuity, and we got to leave. In and out in under an hour. Fortunately it was early enough that we could go somewhere else for better food, service, and memories. Summary: -Beautiful view -Inedible food that could get you sick -Service that’s forgetful and not interested in trying too hard… -No reason to go back

Outdoor seating is a must when it's warm and or sunsets. Local seafood menu and service is really good.

Had the Christopher sandwich for $30. The roast beef was overcooked (it was gray), there were very few onions ( had to open the sandwich to check), could not taste the horseradish sauce if it was there. The waiter, Luka, was great - very friendly and efficient.

Let's start by acknowledging that the view of Long Island Sound is truly remarkable. However, the overall experience leaves much to be desired. The glass of wine provided was disappointingly minuscule, akin to a dixie cup, which felt rather disrespectful considering the price. On a positive note, the food was enjoyable. Unfortunately, the wait staff was largely inattentive, frequently huddled together in a corner of the dining room engrossed in their conversations. Regrettably, I had to actively seek their attention whenever they sporadically emerged in the dining area. Were it not for the captivating view, revisiting this establishment would certainly not be on my agenda.
GL K — Google review
The service was awful, the food awful and sat over priced. We ate here the day we arrived since our room was not going to be ready for 2 hours. lobster roll $45! Fishy. We found other restaurants in the area with $18 rolls that were delicious. Clam chowder barely had clams. Heriloom tomato salad for $20 nothing special. Fruit salad was some pieces of cantaloupe with sad blueberries. Crab dip too much mayo and not worth $27. I forgot i made reservations for dinner at the end of the week. I trued to cancel the night before and if you do not cancel in 24 or more hours they charge you a fee per person! Are you joking? Guess they are desperate. So we went down, had 2 salads, 3 cups chowder, a glass of wine, 4 ice teas, 1 beer and 1 mixed drink and the bill was $200!. We should have paid the cancel fee. We ordered pizza for dinner.
Leslie C — Google review
Service is mediocre, and the food took forever to come out. The excuse : it is our second day opening for the season. When you charge $40 for a lobster roll, you better knock my socks with your service and attention. The food is decent, but not a R&C standards. This is not what I expected from this fine establishment!!
Victoria N — Google review
First time we ever had sub par service at the Ocean House. Got unlucky with the most unhappy waiter. Just wasn’t pleasant and never smiled once. He just wanted to take our orders. Everyone else that helped us was perfect. None of us were even rude, just shocked that was an Ocean House waiter. Pandemic waitstaff shortage? Maybe he was having a bad day? Still tipped 20% We’ll be back, he just wont be our waiter.

I visited Napatree Conservation Point on a sunny May day and had a wonderful experience. The area offers a scenic hike of about 4–6 miles along the beach, making it perfect for nature lovers. The beach itself is beautiful, clean, and swimmable. There’s a free public restroom available, and a shower facility for $5, which is convenient after a swim or hike. It seems like an ideal picnic spot, especially in the late summer months. Nearby, there are charming craft shops, ice cream parlors, and beachy clothing boutiques that add to the relaxed, coastal vibe. I also spotted some rare birds while exploring, which was a delightful bonus. A great spot for a peaceful day out by the sea! There was two hour free parking until May 31.

Beautiful location, you can park the boats on one side where it's calmer. Walk over the hill to the ocean side. Very clean beach, located near Castle Hill. Great walking beach I.

- about a 4 mile out and back walk along the shoreline with views of Watch Hill Point Lighthouse - Great for birdwatching and dog walking, bags are provided at the entrance - Parking is private during the summer at the trail entrance but you can park in front of the shops year round (about a 1 minute walk from the trail entrance). Parking at the trail is open during the offseason. - No bathrooms - I saw a seal off shore, they migrate north during the fall so that’s the best time of the year to see them in RI

Heard that it was a great hidden gem, so wanted to check it out. It was indeed beautiful, but the setup is far from ideal. Parking for the beach is rough, either street parking that has a 2 hour limit and is a 10 minute walk to the beach (with a steep, sandy hill), or a lot that cost $50 and is a 15 minute walk with a steep, sandy hill. Didn’t see bathrooms. So if you’re a resident or staying locally, great beach. If you’re a day-tripper, just drive the extra 10 minutes over to Misquamicut.

It's a lovely area and beautiful stretch of beach BUT there is a limit on when dogs are allowed, even leashed, during peak times they will NOT 🚫 allow any dogs from 8am-6pm. Please note this.

Napatree Point is a serene and secluded beach destination perfect for watching the sunset or taking a leisurely stroll. Visitors can enjoy walking along the beach, climbing sand dunes, and exploring the area. It's popular with dog-walkers and vacationers looking for a peaceful retreat. The off-season offers a tranquil paradise for dog walking, while hikers can appreciate the natural beauty of washed ashore hardwoods and scenic trails.
Very nice beach !! Great place for a walk especially in the off season. Ocean on the front side or lots of crossovers through the dunes to the bayside, with a view towards Stonington CT, Harbor. If you are energetic; walk all the way out to view the abandoned Fort Mansfield - with WWII gun placements, on the point.
Steve M — Google review
Nice little stretch of beach that doesn't seem to get too crowded. Quite a bit of seaweed washed up along this beach compared to other surrounding areas. Sand is almost like a mix of silt, very soft. Views are nice all around. Great for a walk and taking in the sights. Parking is available in a lot nearby in downtown Watch Hill.

Walking down the beach/conservation area. Beautiful scenery. Not much luck with sea glass. Round trip takes about an hour. Port a potty in the parking lot. Dog friendly.

Fort Mansfield

Historical landmark
Fort Mansfield is a historic military fort located near Napatree Point. Built in the 1900s, it was eventually abandoned in 1917. Over time, the fortress succumbed to the harsh coastal storms and fell into disrepair. Today, visitors can explore the remnants of this once formidable structure and learn about its intriguing history as they enjoy the scenic surroundings.
Long walk on the beach to get here, and you'll probably have to break brush in the summer to reach it. It's fenced off but there's a lot of graffiti everywhere. Not worth seeing in my opinion
John S — Google review
Lots of graffiti but pretty cool if your into old abandoned places. Be sure to bring a flashlight!
Nunya B — Google review
I visited here when I was 10 years old with my cousin and sister, those trees in the middle of the holes were burning fires n filled with weird people. Didn't know it at the time , but they were devil worshipping. I think we got into the back of the fort, crawling on all fours with water dripping on us, and we cut the flashlight bc ppl were chasing us. To this day I have no idea how we got out of there- I ended up leaving my dad's house for my mom's shortly after, terrible "real" nightmares, dark figures. Talking, scratching, windows opening on there own with my stepbrother in there. A mysterious man showing up at 3 am 1 night asking to use the phone and disappearing before my sister's eyes, I didn't go looking for dark energy at 10 years old, but it was there and found me. Im going to be 45 years old and just remembered this experience, and its also filled with things I remember and things I cant... the effects may to be this day- something followed- whether it was the dark man by the fire smiling at us- I'll never know- I have no idea how we left. Screw this place n don't let your kids go there alone
Jennifer V — Google review
There is no way to access it. There are 10 ft high bushes all around it after we hiked over a mile and a half to get there and their is a 8 ft security fence around it
Grant B — Google review
Looks like every other fort remnant in Rhode Island. Nice scenic walk down the beach to get to it though! The walk takes about 30 minutes from the NapaTree Point Conservation parking lot( if you're not scavenging for sea glass like I was). Stay on the overgrown path to the left and it'll lead you to the fort. Don't look down and you'll find the way in ;)

Lighthouses
Watch Hill Lighthouse, located in the picturesque seaside community of Watch Hill in Westerly, Rhode Island, has been a prominent feature of the landscape since its construction in 1807 under President Thomas Jefferson's orders. This historic lighthouse is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and offers breathtaking panoramic views of Westerly and the ocean. Visitors can experience the thrill of spotting ships from afar as they approach the shores.
We were here on a windy day and a sudden discovery. The road to the lighthouse shows up as a private road so we parked on the main road and walked down to the light house. However we did see cars drive in and out the road . Lots of beautiful and big mansions when you walk by. It was so beautiful, and was windy enough which made clicking pictures difficult . The high tide and the wind made the waves look so beautiful. Couldn’t stay long as to enjoy them. If you go down the road you will see a row of shops and beaches to sit at also. But it was closed as it was still cold. Definitely worth visiting.
Suparna B — Google review
The place is beautiful and has nicely maintained grounds. It is a good place to watch the sunset. The downside is that there is no place to park. The road to the lighthouse is narrow, so the only option is to walk around a mile.
Arif S — Google review
Beautiful. A bit of a walk unless you are elderly you can drive in. Grounds are well kept. Views are incredible from every point on the property. Just lovely. NO bathrooms anywhere near by. You have to go to center of town to find one.
Cas — Google review
Nicely groomed grounds, plenty of green grass to walk the kids and dogs; beautiful ocean views; clear views of Napatree, Block Island, Stonington, and Taylor Swift's mansion. Can even see Long Island on a clear day. Between Memorial Day thru Labor Day, must be 65+y.o. to drive to the lighthouse; can always do free street parking at the Watch Hill business area down the block and walk to the lighthouse.
Jerry C — Google review
Came here on a weekday after Labor Day. It’s a 10-minute walk from Bay Street to the lighthouse. Limited parking and a security guard at the entrance since it’s a residential area. However, handicap permits allow easier access by car.
Brian M — Google review
The lighthouse is situated between the Atlantic ocean and the Block Island sound. You get picturesque views and smashing waves. The lighthouse is accessible through a street which is easily walkable. Handicap and seniors are allowed to take the car up to the lighthouse. There was no lighthouse tour.
Divya G — Google review
Nice lighthouse. Parking can be quite cumbersome and you have to walk in to it from Main Street unless you are 65 or older then you can drive down. Nice view of Taylor Swift’s house.
Tanya W — Google review
Beautiful lighthouse and worth the effort to see Note the entrance gate does not have a sign to it and you have to park elsewhere and walk up to unless you are over 62 then the guard will let you drive down the narrow bush line road to a limited parking area.

Ocean House Beach

Beach
Ocean House Beach, renowned as the finest stretch of coastline on the East Coast, offers a splendid and picturesque setting. It is advisable to steer clear of parking at The Watch Hill Inn parking lot due to its subpar service, which includes employees who engage in unprofessional behavior such as yelling and cursing. This establishment should be avoided altogether as its owner has been known to display dishonesty. On a positive note, the staff at Ocean House Beach are exceptionally polite and considerate.
Fabulous beach - best on the East Coast. However, avoid parking at The Watch Hill Inn parking lot. Horrible service, employees yelling and I could hear some of the employees cursing. Avoid at all costs! The owner is also very dishonest.

absolutely gorgeous beach. I am usually not a fan of east coast beaches, but this one was extremely clean, has a lot of space, and was very serene. parking is a bit far though so make sure to consider that.

We chose Sail Trim Again to get married on. It was beyond perfect! Captain Jack was awesome. He put so much thought and care into the trip that it turned out better than I imagined.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our sail with Jack. He was a fantastic, thoughtful host with a laid back but expert vibe. He taught us many new things and we enjoyed a beautiful afternoon sail.

We absolutely loved our charter ride with Captain Jack! He’s super knowledgeable about the area and has a great sense of humor! He took us to an authentic clam shack for lunch and the food was absolutely amazing! I wish I could spend every day with my besties on his boat! Such an enjoyable experience

Captain Jack's tour is an absolute must for any Westerly resident or visitor. Beautiful and informative. His boat is stunning and captain skills top notch. Will do again! Thanks for an amazing day on the water!

Our 2 hour morning sail this past weekend was wonderful - the boat was pristine and comfortable, and Capt Jack was friendly, knowledgeable, and had some great stories to tell. Our crew learned about sailing and local history while enjoying our trip. We all would highly recommend a sail on Trim Again!

There is no one better than Captain Jack! We've been to the Ocean House so many times, and each time we come in the summer, we make sure to book a cruise with Captain Jack. The reasons are simple - Captain Jack has an unparallel knowledge of the local history and waterways. You simply cannot beat his decades of knowledge and experience. He's a local legend that other charters simply cannot compete with. His boats are classics that perfectly match the historic surroundings. He is an expert captain, so we always feel safe and in the best hands. He is kind, thoughtful, and just good people. We look forward to our get-aways at the Ocean House and making every trip complete by having Captain Jack take us on another tour. There simply is no competition. Captain Jack is a must!!!

We had a great sailing day with Captain Jack! He is extremely knowledgeable about the area and his boat is beautiful. We look forward to sailing again soon!

Our party had a memorable time sailing with Captain Jack on his classic wooden boat. The whole coastal area is just amazing to view from the water. Learning some of the history of the sights we saw as well as sailing basics was great ! Everyone in our party agreed this was the best way to experience the true flavor of Watch Hill.

Best dining experience in a long time. Food was excellent. Service was even better. We were greeted by name at the table by our server which immediately suggested to us that they care. Both servers were very polite and professional. We started with raw oysters and octopus then scallops with Brussels sprouts. Finished with coffee and crème brûlée. We loved everything

Amazing Sunday Brunch with our family - the bottomless mimosas & oysters were the highlight! The lobster bisque was out of this world and our main dishes were lovely! The kids enjoyed the endless crepe station & assortment of desserts. Left very full & very satisfied. Service was slow and not super attentive, food came out very slowly but we enjoyed that. Would come back and try other restaurants at location
Sarah R — Google review
Calm atmosphere and beautiful beach view. The food was okay - soup quite salty and sandwiches quite greasy. However, we really loved the cocktails and lattes we had with our meal. Would have also been nice if the occasion on our reservation was acknowledged by a staff member
Sorna S — Google review
Nice experience. Beautiful view and great service. Food was just bland. Had a cheese charcuterie and calamari for an appetizer. Both were good, though expected more from the calamari for the portion size and presentation for its price. Focaccia bread was good. Entree was a lobster roll. Good amount of lobster but some of the lobster was chewy and hard to eat. I've probably had a dozen lobster rolls from different places this year and sadly this might have been the worst one, all the while it was the most expensive. Dessert was mostly the best part. Had the Bacon Banana Creme Brulee which was very unique and good. From talking to my family afterwards, we generally all had the same consensus. Dessert was the high point, but the rest of the food tended to be very bland. Just expected more. Wouldn't return for the food.

My second time at Ocean house. I had a delightful experience at this location, which is absolutely ideal for summer outings. The Sunday course brunch is a noteworthy highlight, and while the food was satisfactory, the shrimp cocktail truly stole the show. The ocean view adds to the overall atmosphere, and the outdoor cocktail bar is simply fantastic. The garden area was another beautiful touch. There was a minor hiccup with the to-go dessert packaging; the box provided was too large to fit into the bag properly. As a result, the desserts were squished together, making it difficult to distinguish one from another. Despite this small issue, I am eager to return and would highly recommend the experience.

Dining at The Bistro in Ocean House was truly a delight. Every part of the experience was immaculate. Of course, the environment is beautiful as the hotel in which the restaurant is located is one of the most stunning oceanfront hotels in the world. Dining as the sun was setting while overlooking the ocean made for a special experience I will remember fondly. The service was world-class and catered to each party’s needs with great understanding. They went above and beyond to ensure everyone had a wonderful experience. The food matched the service with its high quality. I thoroughly recommend the Parker House rolls (which come with a wide variety of butters and spreads), the rigatoni, and the Brussels sprouts. Each dish was crafted beautifully with generous portions. I felt the food was priced very reasonably, especially considering how special the experience was. Dining at Ocean House should be on everyone’s list when visiting the area for an impeccable experience.

Every visit to Ocean House delivers exceptional service, cuisine, and ambiance, but this time the team truly outdid themselves, transforming a wonderful afternoon into a cherished memory. Trevor and the Bistro staff welcomed my family with genuine warmth and went the extra mile to celebrate our special occasion. Every hotel would do well to follow their example and provide such an outstanding experience.

We had a large party for a weekday lunch and Trevor, the restaurant manager, took great care of us. He was extremely attentive and very mindful of dietary restrictions. Our drinks were always filled, our food came out right on time, and we had a wonderful cake to finish. Would highly recommend celebrating any special event here!
