If you only have 5 days to spend in Ponta Delgada, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Ponta Delgada, the main city on São Miguel in the Azores, blends a historic, white-and-basalt old town with easy access to dramatic volcanic landscapes. From here you can explore crater lakes like Sete Cidades and Lagoa do Fogo, hot springs in Furnas, and coastal viewpoints with sweeping Atlantic vistas. The city itself offers cobbled streets, churches, and a lively marina with whale‑ and dolphin‑watching tours. Fresh seafood, local cheeses, and pineapple grown in nearby greenhouses round out the experience.
With favorites like Õtaka, A Paparoca, and Cantinho dos Anjos, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Õtaka and Ta Gente so you can get the best taste of Ponta Delgada while you’re here. In the charming city of Ponta Delgada, the Portas da Cidade stands as an iconic 18th-century landmark with ornate archways that welcome visitors to the city by the sea. These famous gates were once a grand entrance for those arriving by boat and are considered a symbol of the city.
You can experience a very traditional Portuguese cityscape here, it's absolutely beautiful to take it all in! It's hard to believe that someone did all of this work by hand, stunning to be there in person. We went during the day and at night to really appreciate it all.
Kris10 M — Google review
Historical architectural gates in public square. It's beautiful and works as a central mark for the city. You can easily get from there to the military museum, churches, chapels, botanical garden and marina. It is next to the town hall. Usually they start walking city tours from these gates.
Marika Y — Google review
Just a very pretty, well preserved entrance to the town centre. The paving is beautiful as are the surrounding buildings.
Stephen S — Google review
A square with the remains of historical buildings, including the City gates. Beautiful surroundings, worth a visit.
Jože H — Google review
A picturesque spot and a popular photo opportunity, especially during peak hours when the area can get quite busy. While the gate is iconic for the city, to be honest, its historical or symbolic significance isn’t entirely clear unless you’ve read about it beforehand. Still, it's a nice landmark to pass by when exploring the city center.

18th century city gates made of dark volcanic basalt. It looks great and is undoubtedly a symbol of the capital. Day and night, always beautiful and atmospheric.

Cafe
Café Central in Ponta Delgada is a delightful spot to kickstart your day, perfectly situated on the vibrant Largo Matriz, right across from the stunning Igreja Matriz de São Sebastião. This charming café offers a Regional Breakfast that features an array of local delights such as Bolo Levedo bread, artisan butter, fresh cheeses, and juicy pineapple—all sourced from the island itself. The generous portion is ideal for sharing and comes at an incredibly reasonable price.
The waiters are all very nice! My spaghetti was salty so they made me another one. Really enjoyed the meal, the atmosphere was great!
Andrew D — Google review
The waitress was not very nice, smiling and answering questions. Food was OK but the service for the pizza took ages so for the prices I would recommend going elsewhere.
Xavier A — Google review
Very big portions of food! Everything that we tried here was absolutely delicious! Atmosphere was amazing as it's in the heart on the city opposite to the church. Prices are not so bad as to compare with another restaurants in this town. Definitely recommend to visit!
Mariia U — Google review
I am so happy that this cafe reopened. It truly is at the heart of Ponta Delgada with its ideal location opposite the central church (Matriz), with views of the famous arches and glimpses of sparkling water in the marina. It has kept its reputation for generous portions and fair prices. The highlight on the menu for all of us was the cheese and bacon burger in the local bread (bolo levado). The ‘contemporary’ salad was exceptional, even more so considering that it is difficult to find good salads on the island. The ‘Ovos Rotas’ is listed as an appetizer, but it could certainly be a main course and is like a skillet breakfast with layers of fried egg, bacon, French fries and sweet potato fries. Our server Luana was great. Please note that there is a system to being seated outside - come into the terrace by the cafe entrance and wait under the sign. The servers will see you and find a table for you.
Hayley — Google review
We had two experiences which were very contradictory. Once the food was good, the waitresses were nice, fast and efficient. The second time was not as good. The food was still good but the waitresses were extremely rude, slow and inefficient. We arrived and the outside area was full, I took a look inside the Cafe and it was empty so I asked if we can sit inside which they denied „The inside area is closed.“ I am sorry but that makes no sense at all if you have a completely full outside area you should open the inside seating arrangements whether you feel like it or not, it is unfriendly and poor customer management not to. Also no one comes towards you to explain were to wait or how to approach getting a table (no there are no signs either). So we approached a waitress to ask if they have space for four people. She didn’t even greet us and just said „Get in line“ I didn’t understand what she said the first time so I asked for her to repeat it again please, she basically screamed at me „GET IN LINE!“. That is absolutely unacceptable and there is no excuse for this behavior. We all have bad days but we were very nice and she had no reason to scream at me, mind you this is the first impression they deliver? Disappointing. As I said the food is fine, the Prego‘s taste good but are a little dry, the iced coffee is great and the „fresh cheese“ is not a cheese platter like usually served, it’s a special soft cheese from São Miguel. It would be nice to mention that as I was expecting something else. I would also like to add, the male waiters were honestly always friendly. They need to work on their customer service approach and need to focus on serving quality no quantity.
Sara — Google review
The location is prime, no doubt, but unfortunately, the food and service don’t live up to the atmosphere, which was disappointing. It almost feels like the stunning view is being relied on to make up for the lackluster service and average food quality. We ordered the burgers… while they were decent, they didn’t feel worth the price, and it took over 40 minutes for just two to arrive. I’d recommend this spot for the view on the square, but not for the service or food quality.
JL Q — Google review
The service might take awhile because they have so many customers. But its all good and it was the best fish soup we ate in Azores.
Martin S — Google review
We were visiting the Azores for 8 days and visited the cafe twice. Both times the food was excellent, and service was good. Prices were reasonable, drinks were cold, and the patio is a great place to get some fresh air & people watch. Would certainly recommend it.

Louvre Michaelense, established in 1904, is a charming store and cafe located in the heart of Ponta Delgada. Initially offering fine hats and fabrics imported from France, it now showcases a delightful selection of Azorean products including teas, preserves, jams, and unique items like Avo Catitas twine bicycle baskets. The store also features an all-day cafe-restaurant-cocktail bar where visitors can enjoy local cuisine with a contemporary twist or indulge in house-made desserts.
Louvre in Ponta Delgada delivers truly exceptional food—we’ve been twice and returned specifically for the unforgettable seafood casserole. We also tried the cheeseboard, chili mayo fries, mackerel salad, and chocolate cake, all of which were fresh, crunchy, and full of flavor. While the prices are on the higher side, the quality and execution make it well worth it. Service can vary depending on the staff, and while the indoor space feels a bit dark and cramped, the outdoor seating is much more inviting. We’d highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates high-quality food and would gladly return ourselves.

INCREDIBLE MEAL(s) We only had two nights in the azores and we went to this place twice. Not a single bad dish. I can already tell that I will be dreaming about that braised beef risotto for years.

We had such a nice evening here. The staff is super friendly, Francisco welcomed us and took care of us the whole time. We had the seafood arancinis, chicken saltinbocca and red wine braised beef risotto and tarte tatin for desert. All dishes were great and super flavorful, you’ll really wish for an extra stomach! Cocktails were super nice as well. Big thanks to the team!

We went for brunch after arriving that morning to sao Miguel. This French cafe was recommended by our hotel - it was truly delightful. Adorable decor- charming patio. The food was delicious! The portions were generous as well. The chocolate cake was outstanding

Absolutely delicious!! We came here twice during our 4-day stay in Sao Miguel and ordered the same thing: shrimp pasta & seafood casserole. The flavours are explosive, especially if you love lemon and coriander. Cocktails deserve a shout out too, best on the island.

Louvre Michaelense did not disappoint. We walked by several times in the evening and could smell and see the food. We were lucky to get a table outside on our second last night in Ponta Delgada. The Spaghetti De Camarao (Prawn Spaghetti) and Arroz Malandrinho (Seafood Casserole) were to die for. I would recommend a reservation in the evening to guarantee a table. The staff are absolutely amazing and I would recommend stopping for lunch or dinner.

Excellent food and service. It is highly recommended to book. We felt in love with the cauliflower salad 😂, but we would recommend to have it as a tapas to share 😁. Good list of wine.

Restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Ponta Delgada, A Tasca is a beloved homestyle eatery that captures the essence of São Miguel's culinary scene. This vibrant spot seamlessly blends live music and art with traditional Portuguese cuisine, creating an inviting tavern-like atmosphere adorned with local artwork. Guests can indulge in generous portions of seafood, meat dishes, and vegetarian options while enjoying a diverse selection from their impressive wine cellar.
First experience of Azorean food. Piping hot grilled limpets that were the best we had on the island. Beef stew: thin flavour with marrow, and fall of the bone meat (not even piece). Pineapple cake - super sweet. Be prepared to wait, we waited 15 mins even at an off peak time. But worth it!
Ali O — Google review
It’s a very popular restaurant on the island. Better book a table in advance. We came after 2pm for lunch so luckily got a table after 15 minutes waiting. Very good price, it’s €56 for the 5 dishes we ordered. Decent taste for the food but don’t have to queue for 1 hour. Recommend the sausages.
Tan X — Google review
This restaurant is quite popular and located in a small alley not far from the seaside. The building itself is very distinctive, with charming architecture that immediately draws your attention. Inside, the atmosphere is cozy and full of character, combining traditional touches with a relaxed local feel. We were seated at a table by the wall, which was comfortable and gave us a nice view of the lively dining area. The menu was presented in a creative way—it looked like a newspaper, which we thought was really fun and unique. We decided to try some local dishes, including the Portuguese national dish, some bread and shrimp, and a stew with octopus. Among all the dishes, my favorite was definitely the shrimp—it was fresh, juicy, and full of flavor. The dish that came with rice wasn’t really to my personal taste, as I’m not very used to that kind of texture and flavor combination. The octopus stew was okay, though it seemed to have been cooked a bit too long, which made the texture slightly chewy. We also ordered some local beer, which was excellent and paired perfectly with the meal. Overall, the experience was pleasant and the food was decent, though perhaps we had expected a bit more. When we finished and left, there was already a long line forming outside, which shows just how famous this restaurant really is.
Penny — Google review
Beautiful restaurant in Portugal style. Food was alright. I ordered octopus stew, and it was lovely, but tuna steak wasn't so good. We asked for dessert and were waiting around 30 minutes for someone to give us menu, in the end we just paid and went to another place for pudding and drinks. One more detail, you need to have reservations or to queue up for a table. We were waiting around 45 minutes for a table, some of the people after us 1,5h. I definitely wouldn't wait again so long as its not worth it. My recommendation to book table in advance and to order everything in one go, as there services not so good unfortunately.
Mariia U — Google review
It's a real local tasca, charming building in an alley bit far from the sea side. Menu is printed in a dance newspaper/ magazine format and includes the history of this place and it's staff. Great touch. We like the place so much that we went back again. There is a great selection of local dishes on the menu and this is what we have decided to go for, island sausage, island shrimp, pastry with local cheese and honey.. Ok, the prawn and bread dish with poached eggs was slightly odd looking but very tasty! Every other dish was tasty and looked great. We had local style cheesecake for dessert, it was very tasty and not like the cheesecake you may expect. We washed the food down with a glass of local red beer and local white wine. Both tasty and worth going for, although Tasca does have a good selection of wine on their menu. Definitely recommend to visit the restaurant, it is an ideal place to taste local produce and local dishes (tapas style or full meal), feel a vibe of a local tasca. There likely will be a queue as the place is quite popular but it is worth a wait and it won't be long! Have a read of the menu while you wait.
Anna — Google review
6 in our party for €120. 1 wine, 5 x apple cider, 1 large beer, 1 Irish coffee, 2 cokes. 2 garlic bread apps. 1 Tuna encrusted meal - very good. 1 Tuna sandwich with fries - very good. 1 duck and rice platter - very good. 1 Beefsteak Sandwich - ordered medium, came out over cooked - still OK. 1 beef cheeks platter - very good. 1 chicken breast with black-eyed peas platter - they served over cooked thighs and wings - not so OK. We were seated before the couple next to us - the couple were given menus first, took their order and were given drinks before we were given menus. Needless to say, they were way ahead of us in their process. I will say, the atmosphere is amazing, we've eaten in dozens of Sao Miguel restaurants and this has the best vibe and really good food. The price is amazing too.
Casey K — Google review
Definitely worth to wait one hour for a table. Excellent food, reasonable prices, the staff were friendly and welcoming. They offer many different options including traditional Azorean dishes and many many wines. The portions are quite big, so we decided to share and try more.
Martha — Google review
We went early so we did not have to wait long for the table. Did not feel that the service is slow but somewhat the waiter got two out of 5 orders wrong. We ordered red wine but got a sangria, we asked and was told that it is a house red wine (so we somewhat also questioned and made ourselves believed that my be it’s their style of a house wine). Turned out in the bill, it was sangria and was priced differently from the house wine we ordered from the menu. We also ordered a cheese platter but got a soft cheese with pepper sauce instead. Apart from these mistakes, food was okay - average.

Mercado da Graça is a bustling farmers' market where you can find a wide variety of fresh produce, including fruits, vegetables, fish, and meat. Additionally, the market boasts an extensive selection of cheeses. One particular vendor stands out as a haven for Azorean specialties, offering an array of products such as teas, liqueurs, wines, and pastries. Visitors can also sample some of the finest São Jorge cheese varieties while learning about their unique characteristics from the knowledgeable vendors.
Definitely the best place to buy vegetables, fruits and fresh meat. The quality is incredible and you also meet very friendly and passionate local farmers that can help you to buy seasonal products. Much much better than any supermarket on the island and it also have incredible prices. It is algo the best sport to get honey, flower and cheese. Highly recommended!

Fantastic produce. Great find for local tea and honey as well. Excited to come back and see the main market space as well!

Far from being a classic European market (and maybe my expectations were not adjusted). There is only one cheese shop here and all the others sell fruit and vegetables. The selection is not impressive and sometimes it seems better to buy at the supermarket.
Dor S — Google review
One of the most delicious fruit we bought on the 10days island vacation. And also great prices, better than in the supermarkets.
Jennifer C — Google review
The prices were reasonable, not much different from those in the shops. Only one vendor sold passion fruits. We had hoped to find cheaper Azorean pineapples, but they were actually more expensive than in larger supermarkets. However, there was a good selection of local fruit and flower seeds.

A great place to get some fresh produce (meats, vegetables, fruits) while in Ponta Delgada. The bananas were more dense than in North America (they were NOT plantains). The pears and fresh vegetables were excellent.

Japanese restaurant
Õtaka is a Japanese, Asian, Contemporary and Fusion restaurant located in Ponta Delgada. The food is beautifully presented and the taste is exquisite - it's one to watch in the years to come, surely.
We had a wonderful experience dining here. We chose the discovery menu, which was thoughtfully curated and beautifully executed. The service was excellent—attentive without being intrusive—and the presence of a sommelier. Everything was well-paced, and the food was outstanding. Given the quality, the pricing feels very reasonable. I highly recommend making a reservation, as seating is limited. You can book for either 6:30 PM or 9:30 PM.
Nathalie T — Google review
Hard to find the words to describe the experience but I will try. A truly unforgettable meal at Õtaka. We had the chef’s Experience menu with wine pairings—each course was stunning, and the flavors were perfectly balanced. The service was impeccable, and a special thank you to Paolo, the sommelier, whose pairings and passion elevated the entire evening. A truly elegant and memorable dining experience. We were even greeted & asked for our opinion by the owner and head chef José which shows how much love goes into each plate. You cannot leave the Azores without a dinner from Õtaka.
Chris T — Google review
We enjoyed a Saturday evening at Õtaka and it was a pleasure. The food was very tasty throughout, especially I would point if the beef and the dessert. The staff has been very friendly and attentive and we really enjoyed our experience. Reservation is almost a must.
Frederik S — Google review
Treated myself to the Discovery 8-course menu one night during my trip to Ponta Delgada. They only have two seatings and because I was on tour during the day, I got the 930pm (should make reservations). The atmosphere was very chic and design very minimalistic with open kitchen. There was outdoor seating as well. The 1st course was pieces of cornbread and salted butter with Azorean seaweed. The butter itself could be a course. For the snacks, there was a piece of sashimi (can’t remember which fish) and a fried rice roll with spicy tuna. The 3rd dish was my fave - Azorean amberjack sashimi in a watermelon cucumber emulsion. Such a refreshing combination and I drank the watermelon juice after. The 4th was 3-pieces of cured mackerel with finger lime, which was my first time trying. A bit sour but complimented the fish well. Next was the Azorean beef tataki (which is on their á la carte menu). The meat just melts in your mouth. Then the shrimp tempura, which was probably my least fave. It tasted great but wasn’t too special compared to other courses. Too much spicy mayo/yuzu sauce and batter, and alot of slightly dress greens. This is on their á la carte menu as well. For the main, I chose Azorean beef fillet that came with a sauce that tasted like BBQ, and some pepper leaves salad (really tasty). For dessert was a beautiful cheesecake and passion fruit sorbet. Service was exceptional - all were super attentive and described each dish. I saw them going to each table (inside and out) and engaging with everyone. Recommend this place - mix of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine with Azorean ingredients.

This was such a nice experience. Otaka should put Sao Miguel on the map for Michelin. Each dish was incredible. And oh wow, the sommelier is also very talented. Each dish was perfectly matched with an unbelievable wine. Truly one of the best meals I've had.
Allison J — Google review
I have been going to this place once or twice a year since it opened and my review here is from my most recent (and sadly quite disappointing) experience. My husband and I ordered a la carte and I ordered the famous Wagyu beef I'd heard so much about. Priced at 85 euros (my husband's entree was a fish dish priced at 26 euros for comparison). The beef was exceptional and perfectly cooked. However for this price the sides were non-existent, just a few wilted leaves of spinach and a BBQ sauce that lacked acidity to match the buttery quality of the beef. I hope that the incredible team at Otaka will consider this review in improving the menu and I hope to be inspired to be back. There are some things that aren't worth the hype and this is turning out to be one of them.
Rimi C — Google review
Food was absolutely delicious, we had an amazing wine and did the full experience menu. We had a great night! Some feedback would be that we were 5 min early with our 6.30pm reservation and instead of welcoming us we were told to wait outside for another 5, didn’t feel very welcoming. Also the timeframe with the reservation (there are two shifts) with a 8 or 10 course menu is a bit short. For the money paid and the amount of courses it feels rushed and there wasn’t even coffee offered at the end as we were not fast enough.

Ta Gente is a trendy spot on the island, perfect for enjoying drinks, tapas-based dinners, or after-dinner cocktails. Despite being crowded, with a bit of patience, you can secure a table. The menu offers a variety of local and international tapas as well as delightful desserts. This upscale bar also boasts ample outdoor seating and an inviting ambiance. Guests can savor specialty cocktails while watching skilled bartenders craft custom drinks. Visitors praise the warm staff and recommend trying the local wines.
Best meal we had in Sao Miguel. Great food and very reasonably priced. Glued for money. It is indeed a popular restaurant so expected crowds but you can wait at the waiting table area and order some drinks.
Kornjan T — Google review
The place looks very nice and the cocktails are great. However, I cannot recommend this restaurant to get something to eat. The size of the dishes is much too small compared to the price and the taste is below average. The waiters were polite, but not able to give information on the menu.
Marcel D — Google review
We were looking for a table for dinner around 7.15-30, and spotted one here. A miracle as we could sit immediately. You might have to wait, but get a cocktail or local beer from the bar and be patient, it is worth it. The dishes are not large, but really delicious, we had the local cheese and sausage platter, chorizo, sausage, black pudding (blood sausage), two Sao Miguel and one Faial cheeses, honey, pineapple jam and plenty of good bread. A Greek salad and a local pepper hummus. All very well balanced. Finished off with caramelised pineapple and ice-cream. So good. There's a huge turnover of covers managed by a courteous front of house team, who kept track of the innumerable orders and did not seem to keep anyone waiting too long. Most dietary requirements it seems can be catered for, though vegans might have a tough time. There are a lot of people walking around and through the outside dining area, and also waiting for a table. Don't rush but also don't hang around too long either. Enjoy the flavours.

We came here twice during our stay in Ponta Delgada - once for cocktails, and once for tapas. We sat inside for drinks and they have a cozy area by the bar with couches and armchairs. The cocktails were delish! We had the peach Paloma and the blueberry bourbon mule. When we went back for tapas we sat outside, which was great as well. We shared the cheese board. Maybe not super great value for the money there but it was yummy. Service was terrific both days! I’d definitely recommend coming for drinks and small plates!

We wandered into this place when we weren't sure what to get for dinner and it exceeded expectations. Service was quick, bar was delicious, the vibes both inside and outside were great. Three tapas was plenty of food for the both of us. Not the cheapest place on the island but everything was good so we were definitely fine with the price. Would recommend for drinks and a lighter meal!

The bar Tá Gente has a very inviting atmosphere, perfect for a chat and a drink with friends. I tried a warm Drambuie, served in a beautifully crafted setup with herbal tea and a twist of orange—an original and cosy choice for a cold evening. The ambiance is relaxed and charming, making it a great spot to unwind. While the overall experience was pleasant, there’s some room for improvement in service warmth. I definitely recommend visiting, enjoying the creative drinks, and soaking in the warm vibe of Tá Gente!

Casa da Rosa is a great restaurant located in the heart of Ponta Delgada. The food is delicious and varied, and the atmosphere relaxing. There's also outdoor seating that's perfect for enjoying the Mediterranean weather.
This was the best meal I had during my whole trip to Lisbon, Madrid, and the Azores. I was told the Porto Tonico was a the aperitif of choice in Portugal, but the bartender created his own version for me and it was wonderful. White wine, vodka, lime juice, tonic water, topped off with fruit, and served on ice. So refreshing! The steak was cooked to perfection and really was the best steak I've had in a long time. Finally, the Petit Gateau (the most delicious chocolate lava cake for my fellow Americans) and the most AMAZING ice cream I've ever had in my entire life. Even if you have dinner elsewhere, order this EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT.

Had a limited selection of vegetarian, but worth a shot if in the area.. Restaurant was under-going some much needed renovation the last time I was there. So it should be cleaner at the very least. Nice area and good service.

Great sharing food, nice service, good mood. Not necessarily a negative for some people but it’s noisy and there’s kitchen smell. Seems that air extraction can be improved. Very nice interior design.

Cosy and ambient place for a nice dinner. We ordered the regional plate as starter (a mix of sausage, blood sausage, cheese and pineapple with two dips), grilled tuna steak because it was presented with some original "side flavors", which was quite fine but could use more potatoes and sauteed vegetables, and the vegan hamburger with was also good.

Best vegetarian burger I've had. Great service, great atmosphere and great value. Other options on the menu were very tasty, would definitely recommend.

Great place! There's a small bar to sit at while you wait for a table (if you've not made a reservation), and outdoor seating available. Friendly staff and good service. The rib eye steak was brilliant.

EXCELLENT FOOD AND GREAT SERVICE So we just arrived from Sao Jorge to Sao Miguel here in Ponte delegada. We were looking for a good place to eat LUNCH. Every restaurant was extremely busy and full due too the summer vacation and the white festival for the upcoming day. I walked in this restaurant and asked a waitress named Beatriz if there was still a location for 5. She told me if I could wait for a few minutes she would set us up. It was that busy. Beatriz did one hell off a job, she went in boss mode level 9000, cleared everything up, served other people and gave us a cozy table with 5 chairs in a reasonable and understandable time. Our other waitress Marcia was also very kind, she took our order, gave us tips on their lunch special that was for 8 € and served our food in a reasonable time. Now the FOOD. The vegetarian lasagna was really good, I enjoyed it allot, it also came with a soup as an entree and it was also really delicious. MUCH THANKS to the cheff. At the end of our lunch Marcia answered our question of what we can do here in Ponte Delagado by giving us an agenda cultural journal. she also gave us a summary about there festival on the 3rd of August. GREAT EXPERIENCE

Has an actual bar to sit at (no food service at the bar but great place to wait for a table) to open up). Comfy atmosphere with outside and inside seating. Wide range of cocktails using a lot of fresh fruit. They have a cocktail that uses gummy sharks (Candidush) that is unique to this bar. Sweet but a great story behind it. Very friendly staff!

Tucked away next to a church, Mascote may seem unassuming at first glance, but it's a charming café worth discovering. Despite its small entrance, the interior opens up to a cozy seating area in the original part of the building. This family-run spot is popular for lunch, attracting locals and visitors alike with its kind and helpful staff. The menu offers delicious and affordable options such as fresh fish, salads, and a delightful soup of the day.
I love eating where you see local people gathering. This is that place! Local neighbours enjoying their coffee, old men having lunch, and server greeting regulars and tourists with friendly service. This restaurant offers daily specials, and mine was delicious, and portion was very generous. Great place!

Parque Atlantico is the largest shopping mall in the Azores, offering a whimsical experience with dozens of specialty stores, various dining options, and a movie theater. Visitors can enjoy a diverse range of activities including catching English-language films with Portuguese subtitles at the cinema or attending live theatre performances at Teatro Micaelense. The mall provides an excellent supermarket for stocking up on local goods and features designer shops for indulging in some retail therapy.

Well located, spacious mall with wonderful views of the city and the Atlantic. Food courts, a large food market and free parking turned this mall into the main gathering, eating and shopping place not only to locals but also for visitors from the other Azorean islands, mainland Portugal and tourists from around the World. It has spurred businesses in the surrounding areas making it more and more a one stop shopping spot for all sorts of goods and services ranging from groceries to technology, hardware, home remodeling and personal care.

We stopped here while on our honeymoon after a port stop on the Norwegian Encore. We sat for some local pastries and coffee and explored the stores. The water feature with the waterfall and whale was so beautiful. We will certainly visit again when we return.

Parque Atlantico IS THE BIGGEST mall on the biggest Island in the Azores. Super Market has the best deals on the island, has high end shopping and a food court on the top floor. Very nice place.
John O — Google review
It's a shopping mall/complex so there's the usual mix of shops for clothes, homewares and pharmacy stuff. There's a large supermarket selling some decent stuff, including portuguese hot chicken and has a good sized bakery. The entrance to the mall has a life size sperm whale suspended above the escalators. There's an ex whaling boat on display in the lower mall, which is fascinating to see up close. There's often photo galleries popping up as well. Oh and there's a cinema, which is also quite nice. The food area is pretty comprehensive, with lots of choices, there's the usual, maccy D, burger king, kfc, but there's other choices that may appeal more, such as wok to go, and local Azorean or Portuguese outlets. Just next to the mall is a good sized diy store which is really handy for loads of other stuff.
Jayne T — Google review
This is a small-medium sized mall, but probably the biggest on the island. It is modern and clean and there is a lot of underground parking available for free. The mall has two floors with an eating area and cinema upstairs too. There are a few shops and also a large supermarket at one end.

Jardim Botânico José do Canto, located in Ponta Delgada, was established in the 19th century by Jose do Canto, a significant historical figure on the island of Sao Miguel. This botanical garden boasts an extensive collection of plants from various regions worldwide, making it an excellent spot to explore nature while being in the heart of the city. Visitors, especially botany enthusiasts, are highly encouraged to explore this magnificent site.
Large botanical garden with entrance to the right of the chapel. Price is 5 € and you get a card. There are two toilets. The first is next to the kiosk. Second behind the rose garden. Many old trees, as well as beautiful bushes and flowers. Is not maintained. But you can ignore that, and just enjoy that this is nature with different poultry.

This is a very nice public park in Ponta Delgada. Very well manicured. Old ruins. Nice trails. Ponds, but most notable plants from all over the world on display and information signs to tell you what you were looking at. There is also a cafe. Oh… and in one area there are quite a few chickens and ducks running around…. Keeps things interesting, I guess. This was relaxing. No entrance fee. No crowds. Just a nice experience.

A hidden gem in the heart of Ponta Delgada. This serene garden is beautifully maintained and absolutely worth the €5 entry. The grounds are rich with history, and the towering, otherworldly trees leave a lasting impression. It’s a peaceful escape from the city—tranquil, inspiring, and easy to explore in about an hour. A must-visit for nature lovers and anyone seeking a quiet moment.

I am usually not a big fan of botanical gardens, but this one is really great. Small pathways with branches reaching in, jungle like, dense plantation looking very natural. You can step off path everywhere. Huge trees and few visitors make this garden a must see. Especially recommended on hot days

We stumbled on this place in search for something to eat during a 10hr flight layover. What an amazing find, from the caves to the huge exotic trees! Supléxio is a cozy spot in Ponte Delgada known for its hearty homemade burgers, including veggie options, craft beers, and homemade ice cream. The small interior may lead to a wait for a table, but the courtyard offers a pleasant place to peruse the menu over drinks. Visitors rave about the fantastic made-to-order burgers with juicy meat and delicious flavor combinations. The friendly staff and lively atmosphere make it a must-visit dining spot in the area.
This was the best burger I’ve had- 1427 100% Azores! The quality was phenomenal. Fries and lemonades were great too! We sat outside on a cold & windy night, and would do it again in a heartbeat for this food. Had a blast sketching on the paper placemats while we waited. 5 months later and we still regularly talk about this place.

The burger was absolutely fantastic, you could tell the ingredients were all super high quality especially the beef! The chips were okay, tasted like they’d been sat around a minute. The service was fine, & can be a big queue to get in But I came for the burger and that absolutely rocked

The burgers and desserts are superb! It got very busy after we were seated (people had to wait for a table). Staff was not friendly, but not rude either. Didn't bother to tell us which iced tea was which, but they both tasted the same anyway. Prices are good though. Wouldn't personally come back here.
Puck0429 — Google review
Probably one of the best burgers I’ve ever had!!!!! Omg the patty is SO GOOD. Just tasty, fresh, well made, period. Fries are okay, taste very home-made. Ice tea is quite special, can be slightly less sweet. Very good value of price! Unfortunately our dining experience is totally ruined by a family sitting next to us, with a mom that is obviously very sick that couldn’t stop coughing without covering her mouth the entire time. Meanwhile their toddler was completely out of control, a lot of rolling on the floor, screaming and crying, and the parents did not try to control her at all. We did ask the staff to move us outside if there’s a table available but then we saw a couple came in later than us got moved outside instead of us :( the table sitting by the toilet door is not exactly a good setting as well.
Rainbow C — Google review
Great food and prices but service needs to improve. There should be a proper manager to organize the people arriving and who’s siting next. Bunch of people waiting with a list you could join but 4 free tables outside and still waiting to be seated for 10 min. When you arrive (we arrive around 19h) they put you in a paper list and tell you come back en 30 min, so we did and at the end all good but i felt like helping them in terms of managements… The food totally worth it !!!

Great place! What's not to like? Beer - good. Burger - good. Atmosphere - good. Service - excellent! (The chips are a little tasteless but it doesn't matter) Highly recommended
Dor S — Google review
The staff were super friendly and attentive. All of the hamburgers sounded amazing. We settled on splitting the Mariachi and the El Chapo. Neither disappointed. Both were full of flavour and as described on the menu. The El Chapo had a slight bit of heat from the jalapeños with every bite. The Doritos on the Mariachi made a wonderful addition. I would recommend Suplexio if you’re looking for an amazing Hamburg and a wonderful experience.

Jardim Botânico António Borges, established in the mid-1800s by Antonio Borges Medeiros, is a picturesque urban botanical garden located in Ponta Delgada. This historic garden features caves, tunnels, lakes, and viewpoints that blend seamlessly with the surrounding natural landscape. It boasts a diverse collection of endemic and exotic plants brought from various countries by Antonio Borges himself.
We enjoyed an hour long visit on our way to returning our rental car for our onward flight. Entry is free; parking nearby is hit if miss. There were multiple pathways at various levels around the garden, which offers wonderful shade, calming water features, and some simple stone grottoes. Some of the trees are spectacular and the different examples of blooming plants during late June was amazing. There were chickens and ducks, along with a couple of cats snoozing in shady corners of the park. As we didn’t have time enough to explore the entire garden, next time we’re on São Miguel, we’ll build a long visit into a broader visit of the northwestern part of the city.
David S — Google review
Seems cozier now. However, all its unique features remain: the castle, the coach, the little ponds with ducks (used to have white and black swans as well), the centuries old botanical species from around the globe, the little cafe and, of course, the children’s playground. It still serves its main purpose: to provide a green space and a city park for families and children of Ponta Delgada. But now it can also be appreciated by tourists from all over the World. Welcome, enjoy!

Gruta do Carvão - Monumento Natural, also known as the Charcoal cave, is a remarkable natural wonder located in Ponta Delgada. This ancient lava tube system stretches over 5,500 feet and showcases various geological formations such as lava benches, stalagmites, spongy lavas, and tree molds. Visitors are treated to an informative guided tour through accessible areas of the cave after watching an introductory video.
Its Volcanic lava tubes and rock formations very safe, it an easy walk & accessible, for most people but its not flat and there isn't any lifts just around 40-50 stairs and steps. This need booking a day before you dock or more if you've internet. A gem of a place to go to. We hired electric bikes on line from bike hire in the port, and cycled to the place which is only 3 miles from the port. We booked a tour at 10:30 cost was just few euro. Really impressive attraction and very interesting and Unique. DONT MISS out.

We did the short tour towards the end of our stay. It’s great to hear more of the reasons why the island has formed as it is and the measures being taken to ensure that the geology remains as long and safely as possible into the future. I felt the cost was a bit high for the length of talk and experience

AMAZING!! We did the short tour at the beginning of our vacation. Staff here is so nice and friendly and they explained everything well. I then proceeded to do the long tour three days after (please note: the long tour only goes once a week and has space for 5 people so you have to book it weeks or even months in advance. I was alone and could join the group of 4 that had already booked the tour). The long tour is soooo incredible, you will have to walk on rocks, and crawl through tight spaces. Again, be prepared, if you are claustrophobic I do NOT recommend this tour. You also need to be in a decent shape to do the long tour (I am not a sporty person, but I am in a decent shape). If you like adventure, I really, really recommend the long tour. Our tour guide (I believe his name was Hugo) was also amazing and so so nice. I loved this place!!
Maxine L — Google review
Make a reservation in advance, because they quickly sell out! It's definitely a must see if you're in Ponta Delgada. The short tour is perfect if you're not used to exploring caves. The paths are a bit difficult to walk on, so make sure you're wearing sturdy shoes that support your ankles, and you're in good physical condition (not prone to falling). The temperature in the caves was around 15°C and it wasn't very wet. Our guide was very knowledgeable on volcanic caves and gave us a good tour. We loved all the information she gave us. We visited two caves, which were very interesting to see. The weekly long tour allows you to crawl further into the caves, so make sure to wear old clothes that protect you from the super sharp rocks.
Puck0429 — Google review
Although a bit short circuit, it was amazingly nice to visit this lava tunel. English guide was very experienced and told us very interesting info not just about visited cave, but about Azores in general. I really suggest to visit at least the short circuit, but the long one (done once per week I think) might be even better.
Peter Š — Google review
We took a long tour, and it was fantastic! Here you experience nature as it is, get to see and feel the cave same as pioneers and scientists do 🤗. Wide galleries and narrow passages, massive lava rings, shiny lava glass ceilings and lava-cicles are still pictured in my eyes! It is great that you can come to nature that close in Azores. So grateful to our guide Hugo and his team for this excellent tour, and for their work behind the scenes on preserving and exploring the caves!
Vitold Z — Google review
Really interesting and well guided tour. If you would like to go on the long version you need to reserve at least 3 months in advance!

The restaurant offers high-quality vegetarian dishes at affordable prices and is popular among both locals and tourists. It's advisable to make reservations in advance, especially during the summer. The desserts, particularly the chocolate cake, are highly recommended.
Oh how I love this place! Beautiful food, beautiful atmosphere, the best service I have ever experienced in my life 🫶🏻 absolutely incredible, heartwarming food and I felt like I’m home (I’m not even Portuguese). The vegan options were fantastic and I will be missing this place for a long time! Didn’t realise they are closed on Monday, so didn’t have time to say “goodbye and obrigada for your big heart and for taking care of us” ♥️♥️ - Marta

Exceptional vegetarian food that's as delightful to look at as it is to eat. I strongly recommend it, not just for vegetarians! As my husband is vegetarian, I'm always on the lookout for restaurants with good meat-free options or entirely vegetarian menus. Typically, vegetarian menu items elsewhere are lackluster, and even dedicated vegetarian restaurants often fall into a predictable, uninspired rut. Yet, Rotas da Ilha Verde stands out, proving that a vegetarian establishment can offer genuinely brilliant food that satisfies all palates. The staff was wonderfully welcoming, genuinely friendly, and incredibly well-informed about every dish. They provided excellent recommendations and thoughtfully advised us that the cheese fondue appetizer was surprisingly filling. Note: the portions are very generous.

We had a lovely evening dining at Rotas. Since they are the only vegetarian/vegan restaurant on the island, it was a must visit for us. The menu was super creative and everything we ordered was delicious. But most importantly the staff were amazing. You could really feel the love and passion that went into their restaurant. Truly a one of a kind place. Also do yourself a favor and order the lemon meringue pie for dessert, it’s just so good.

The food was really original and also very tasty with a lot of flavours. We took the Grilled eryngui mushroom with chestnut purée 10,00€ with Zucchini cannelloni with sweet potato chips & salad 17,00€ and the Beans stew with seitan, spices rice & fried yams 18,00€. The staff was very kind, attentive, funny and readily available. You will not be disappointed.

We visited Rotas several times on our trip to the Azores, and we always left the restaurant with big smiles on our faces. The food, the coziness, and the people are just wonderful. The whole team is so kind and heartwarming — you feel like you're eating at a good friend’s place. As vegans, it's not always easy to find good food in the Azores, but Rotas is the place to eat! We tried nearly every dish and were always very satisfied with the food. We also loved the lunch offer. Just don’t forget to book a table before you go. Always a must-visit place for us — more than once per trip! See you soon <3

Xitaka is a great seafood restaurant with delicious fresh fish dishes from all over the Mediterranean and Europe. The service here is excellent and the prices are reasonable. The remote location can be a good thing as it means there aren't many tourists here, making the experience more authentic.
Friendly service. A little wait for the food but worth it. We had passion fruit Sangria which was very nice. Fried Octopus and Seafood rice and we shared them both. Portions were substantial and very flavoursome. We went there at late lunchtime and got space without booking. Prices were fair to slightly high. Atmosphere resembled a little like a franchise but still good. We would go back again 😋

5 stars for excellent service and delicious seafood! This place was recommended by our Airbnb host and I’m so glad we decided to check it out. The manager was really friendly and helped us choose a wine from the menu, and then proceeded to build us a GIANT seafood platter that was absolutely delicious. The service was also quick and efficient, which was a nice change from the slower pace characteristic of being on an European island. Dessert could’ve been better though. We got this pineapple cream dessert and it was a bit too sweet for my liking. No reservations necessary. There are plenty of tables and their quick service allows for quick turnaround times.

This was hands down the best meal I’ve had in Ponta Delgada! The rice with octopus was absolutely delicious – full of flavor and cooked to perfection. The service was outstanding, friendly, and welcoming. And the dessert with pumpkin? Wow… so good I was practically licking my fingers! I’m definitely coming back again before I leave.

Best seafood rice I’ve ever had! Everything tasted so fresh! They also helped us call for taxi.

We keep returning mainly because of the accommodating, friendly and multi-cultural staff. Whether you wish others to join your party later, switch tables or you’re in a hurry to catch a flight they accommodate your needs with a friendly smile. Moreover, all staff collaborates to make sure you have a pleasant experience. Xitaka is particularly popular for large parties on special occasions, e.g. birthdays (better make reservations in advance). Family and friends celebrate loudly and sing together, often multiple parties during the same meal. Regarding the food, the portions are generous, the menu is extensive and includes delicious local delicacies, e.g. grilled “lapas”, creamy tarro root with Pico sausage and octopus “à lagareiro”. The prices, although not exorbitant, do not exactly correlate with the dishes quality and simple ambiance which may limit visits to special occasions for most residents.

We enjoyed an excellent dinner at Xitaka. Their menu is well varied and servings are abundant and delicious. We paired it with the house chilled white wine. The shrimp creme was outstanding. Reservations are recommended. But we were kindly accommodated without them since we arrived early.

The room gets loud easily and we waited a little too long considering the restaurant was half empty. Otherwise, there is a large choice of meals, the platefuls were generous and the food tasted OK. Booking is recommended.

The food here was AMAZING. It smelled and tasted SO good, and you get A LOT. We had the shrimp curry and the fish rice (see picture). The only downside is that it doesn't have a nice view, you are practically looking at industry and houses.

Restaurant
A Paparoca is a specialized eatery located inside the Parque Atlantico Shopping Center in Ponta Delgada. It offers a variety of fast food options, including francesinhas, sandwiches, and Italian dishes. Visitors have praised the friendly service and delicious food, such as great squids and perfect chocolate cakes. The place is known for its fast service and tasty offerings, making it a great spot for a quick meal or snack while shopping at the mall.
fast service, delicious food!

I only go here for the lulinhas (squid). The service can be a bit slow but in their defense, they are making it fresh. So expect to wait approximately 20 minutes. However, they do tell you that it will take 15-20 minutes. Going back to the lulinhas, I didn't expect it to be that good considering it is in the food court of the mall. Every time I go to Sao Miguel, I always stop at Paparoca for the lulinhas. I haven't tried anything else but the lulinhas. If you get a spot inside their sitting area, you get a beautiful view. However, if there's no space - they you have to sit in the food court of the mall. Only suggestion is they need to display the prices.

Restaurant
Saca-Rolhas Taberna is a hidden gem located in the small village of Relva to the west of Joao Paulo II airport on Sao Miguel island. The restaurant offers traditional dishes with refined presentation and an extensive selection of Azorean and mainland wines. It's known for its Bacoeira, a flavorful dish consisting of octopus and bacalhau with a generous amount of garlic.
This restaurant was recommended by a friend who lives in Sao Miguel and it did not disappoint. Service was very nice (probably the best we found in Sao Miguel!) and everything we tried was very tasty and well presented. It was one of the food highlights of our trip

We couldn't have been more impressed by the food and service! Every dish was amazing! The ambience is very intimate, with an almost NYC deco vibe. Truly a culinary experience!
Briana L — Google review
This fine-dining establishment is the perfect place for a special occasion. The menu is extensive and impressive and the quality of the food surpasses anything else on the island. The tempura shrimp is some of the best I’ve ever had and comes with three different dipping sauces. Some dishes need to pre-ordered and I wish I had known that about the Beef Wellington in advance. Our server Lúcia did suggest we have the ‘sliced beef’, which is the filet mignon used to make the Beef Wellington and that was the best steak we have had on the island. We paired it with the juicy ‘fried shrimp in garlic’ for a ‘Surf ‘n’ Turf’ vibe. The black bean and bacon side was rich and satisfying and the sweet potatoes were roasted to succulent perfection. Dessert did not disappoint - the mango mousse with passion fruit was a delightful pairing of sweetness and tartness. There is a sophisticated feel to the decor and lighting and the tables are kept scrupulously clean - the server wiped down the tables between each course. There is street parking, and you can catch a beautiful sunset view in front of the restaurant if timed right.
Hayley — Google review
The food at Saca Rolhas is good, and the presentation of the dishes shows care, but the service was so poor that it completely ruined the experience. For a bill of 92 euros for two people (two starters, two mains, and two drinks), which is far above the average cost of dining out in São Miguel, Azores, one expects attentive, professional, and respectful service. Instead, what we experienced was dismissive and at times outright rude. Plates were cleared the moment we finished without a word, not even an "excuse me", no one asked whether we enjoyed the food, and when I asked about fish-specific cutlery, the request was brushed off with attitude and an opinionated comment. It only got worse at the end. The bill was dropped on the edge of the table without a single word or even eye contact, and when paying, the owner again showed no courtesy, not even a basic thank you. From start to finish, the attitude was cold, careless, and unwelcoming. On top of that, the dining room was very loud, which made it difficult to have a proper conversation. The cooking itself deserves some credit, but good food alone cannot justify such a high price when the service is this bad. Fine dining is about the entire experience, and here it left a bad taste — so much so that I’m writing this review right after leaving the restaurant. Despite the quality of the kitchen, I cannot give more than two stars, and I would not return.
Manuel M — Google review
We were recommended this restaurant from a Portuguese friend and decided to go for a special birthday meal. The food was good, albeit a little overpriced compared to the other restaurants we had eaten at. When we asked to view the wine list we were informed that we needed to scan the QR code which was on our table. On doing this, we saw the list of wines but no prices which surprised us. We then asked for the prices where we were informed that if we needed any help to ask. We were not given a price list at this stage. We then proceeded to ask for one glass of house white wine which was provided to me as a small glass. On receipt of the final bill we were advised that the wine was €17.50 which completely shocked both of us as we had never seen a glass of wine at this price in any of the restaurants or hotels we had eaten at previously. This was hugely disappointing to us both but more importantly the fact that the wine prices were not available for us to see which is against Portuguese law.
Chetna M — Google review
You will need to book in advance to get a place at this small but unbelievable restaurant. Very cosy and well decorated with nice atmosphere. The staff is very professional and the service is quick! The food is amazing and you can tell it is presented with care and delicacy however it is a bit expensive. There is no bottles on the table...and there is a huge variety of wines to choose from. Prepare to spend money on this "department" if you enjoy wine! This is not a common restaurant and you will find that. For one off experience is 09/10.

If you're a fan of pineapples, a visit to Plantação de Ananás dos Açores just outside Ponta Delgada is a must. This small-scale traditional Azorean cultivator is renowned for its premium and distinctively sweet pineapples. Visitors can tour the plantation for free and learn about the cultivation process.
The farm is located in the middle of Ponta Delgada and is easy to reach. The entrance is free and allows you to see the agricultural audio of the pineapple in its different stages of growth. Then you can go to the cafe and bar inside and buy pineapple juice, pineapple tart and pineapple slices produced by the farm. You can also buy pineapple and pineapple preserves and take them with you. There are toilets on the site. The place is open from 9 am to 8 pm every day. The prices are reasonable.
Takh Z — Google review
The site is a series of greenhouses for growing pineapples with explanatory plaques inside. Next to them is an "exhibition" that explains the stages of pineapple growth, and finally there is a cafe/restaurant and a shop selling various pineapple products. The place is not particularly impressive and not particularly well-kept. It is pleasant and does not require more than a 20-minute visit if you get there not hungry.
Dor S — Google review
Such a neat plantation, being able to see the unique way they cultivate and learn the history of their pineapple production was very cool. The pineapple are without a doubt the most delicious we’ve ever had, I wish I would take 100 of them home with us! A free self guided tour and very reasonable priced gifts and snacks in the cafe.
J K — Google review
Pineapple plantation in Ponta Delgada (we walked from the city center). It was a nice visit (and free!) although it is true the place is a bit decadent. The cafe was more renovated and added value to the visit. Would definitely recommend if you are staying in Ponta Delgada.
Angela P — Google review
Walkable from Pta Delgada city center. If you don’t have cell service maybe stop at the bar to get the WiFi password so you can scan the QR codes for the self-guided tour through the greenhouses, though the video at the end explained the process well enough. How cool to add smoke to make the plants flower. The pineapple Caiparinha is delicious.
Valerie K — Google review
Very nice place. I can imagine that in Central Europe you would pay for entry, but here it’s free – and if you want to support them, you can go to the bar and enjoy something with fresh pineapple. We had flambé pineapple with ice cream – it was a real delicacy – and also very tasty pineapple juice. I recommend visiting!
J. K — Google review
Brilliant idea to produce pineapples in greenhouses. Had access to a couple of them. A very nice place with a cozy cafe and an area, where they sell products in glass and bottles, at very reasonable prices.
PDSOTMF — Google review
A cool place you can visit by walking from Ponta Delgada town center. The tour is self-guided, it's pretty easy to follow with QR codes. Some of the glasshouses are open for visitors. But the main selling point of this place is the café -- the pineapple was amazing! There's lots of drinks and desserts made with pineapple, we tried a few and they were all great. Service was good too! And you can buy some of those things as souvenirs: beer, jam, whole pineapples. You must visit this place if you're in Ponta Delgada, it really is the best pineapple in the world! 😅

Ananás Santo António is a renowned pineapple plantation in Ponta Delgada, offering interpretive tours that provide insight into the traditional Azorean cultivation of premium, sweet pineapples. Visitors can explore the 24 greenhouses near Santo Antonio and 6 greenhouses near Ponta Delgada, where they can watch a short video about the history and farming process of Ananas.
Small pineapple plantation with an attached shop with a variety of products made from pineapples at reasonable prices. You can get a free tour of the place starting with a short video in English and then visiting several of the greenhouses. The guide was very friendly and helpful and was able to answer all of our questions. Great experience which felt more personal than at other local ananas plantations.

At this pineapple plantation, you can visit one plantation site. Before the tour, you’re asked to watch a short video in the café to learn more about the process. Everything is free, and there's a souvenir shop where you can browse and buy local products
Nathalie T — Google review
It’s a small but nice plantation in the outskirts of Ponta Delgada. The tour consists of a 6 minute video of the process with English subtitles then one of the workers take you across the street to see the green houses. This will last about 10 minutes so don’t expect a long program but the guides are nice and you are welcome to ask them whatever you want. Of course then you are invited to shop in their store which has anything made of ananas. The fruit itself was indeed probably one of the tastiest I have ever had. The ananas soda was also nice, the craft beer wasn’t extraordinary, they also have ananas ice cream and cookies which we haven’t tried.
Adam — Google review
It is free, they have a small plantation, worth he fast visit that will not last long. The ananas is a little bit less expensive than in the supermarket.

I cannot say better things about Ananas Santo Antonio. We watched a short video before getting a tour of the greenhouses from Victor. The tour was free, but we did give him a small tip as a thank you. He answered all of our questions and was extremely knowledgeable. We had a great time. Highly recommend!!!

This is a lovely little pineapple plantation. We stopped in here during a tour from our cruiseship. It was very clean and well kept. We watched the video first and were then taken over to walk through the greenhouses. Crazy to think these beautiful pineapples take between 2.5 and 3 years to grow. We then went back to the giftshop where we purchased some candies, juice, caramels, and chocolates. The only disappointment was not being able to try the actual fresh fruit. I had really hoped the owners would have some cut for us when we came back from the tour, but sadly, it wasn't included. We weren't allowed to bring fruit back to the ship.

Customers have praised the dedicated staff and the convenience of finding vegan items such as cheese, yogurt, ice cream, hummus, and plant milks. What an awful experience! So we were buying stuff and decided to snap the picture of three of us when we were at the checkout. The security guy shows up and with such attitude demands that I delete the photo immediately! Mind you he was not in the photo! He was persistent and wanted me to show him my deleted photos folder which I would not do because he has no right to look at my deleted pictures or any for that matter! It's a rule of the supermarket??!! In this day and age? That is beyond stupid. The law for that doesn't exist and what he is trying to enforce is illegal, he cannot demand from people to delete the photos they took. Anyhow even when a photo is deleted it can be brought back my dude! He just created an ugly and conflicting situation which is something he clearly enjoys with his little power trip. Will be reported to higher ups.

Museum
Specialty Museums
Located in a former convent, Museu Carlos Machado, also known as the Azorean Museum, was established by Dr. Carlos Machado in 1876. Initially intended as a school museum to spark curiosity about natural history among young people, it has evolved into a comprehensive museum showcasing the ethnographic and natural history of the Azores. The museum features eclectic exhibits of historical artifacts, art, and taxidermy.
This museum is an absolute must-visit when you stay in Ponta Delgada. Housed in an old monastery, the original features are well preserved and gives you a good idea how life in the old days must have been. Inside, one can also find the museum of natural history - interesting and odd in a pleasant way.
Marnik M — Google review
A small museum, part natural history and part historic religious convent. There is a LARGE amount of taxidermy and preserved animals, including some oddities with birth defects. It offered an interesting look into the life of cloistered nuns in the 17th century. The chapel is ornate and beautiful. Small 2-3€ entry fee.
Roy K — Google review
Nice museum in an old monastery. The museum is slightly bigger than it seems, but is still relatively small. You could spend a couple of hours here, if you're really into it. We were a bit in a rush, so we could spend only 45 minutes, which allows for a decent visit still. They have an enormous collection of stuffed animals and skeletons of maritime life. Also some good info on the history of the Azores. Entrance fee was only 2 euro p.p.: a real bargain. They have lockers that you can use free of charge. If you enjoy an occasional museum visit, you are in the neighborhood and you have time, this is a no-brainer.
Ramon — Google review

It's a very interesting taxidermy museum located in the historical center of PD, not to miss especially if you get some rainy hours.
Ruxandra M — Google review
The taxidermy here is atrocious. Look at these pictures. The marine animals are painted black. The manta ray’s cephalic fins are drooping like a wilted plant. They left two unidentified birds face up on top of one of the exhibits. If there is a loving god, he would not let this place exist
Arnold M — Google review
The museums were great to visit.Lots of wonderful history. I really liked the 4 paintings of the Holy Martyrs of Lisbon telling their story in paintings. The man who sold us our tickets in the first small two room convent museum had to be the rudest man I have ever met. I don't know how he has a job in the hospitality industry. He needs client service training. That museum could also do well to translate their information cards in English. It can't be that expensive to do that.
Rally O — Google review

Ice cream shop
La Gelateria is a beloved gelato shop that has garnered rave reviews for its welcoming atmosphere and exceptional flavors made from locally sourced ingredients. Visitors have expressed surprise at the high quality of the gelato, with some even comparing it to the authentic Italian original. The wide variety of homemade, natural-tasting flavors has left a lasting impression on many, with some claiming it to be the best they've ever had outside of Italy.
The place is quite cute and features some nice local artwork for sale. Whenever I’m on holiday I like to find a place that serves a good espresso and this place served one of the best ones on the island. But obviously the reason why one would come here are the gelatos. We actually came here twice during our stay in Ponta Delgada and tried several flavors. The simple local fruit-based ones were the best, but it’s not to say that the more elaborate ones were not amazing. Definitely worth taking to stop for a desert here!

Amazing ice cream, honestly it’s one of the best I’ve ever eaten. Big portions and kind stuff. Cozy place inside. I tried pineapple, coconut, strawberry sorbet and pistachio and all of them tasted great. You can tell that this ice cream were made of high quality products and you actually taste natural not artificial flavors. Highly recommended!
Zosia — Google review
My husband and I visited on July 09, 2024. We spent quite a while standing in line with what felt like limited time to read the flavor menu, as it sits on the counter by the register and isn't available on the wall with the menu prices. That said, it helped having the translations also written on the menu so that we didn't have to stand at the register translating on our phones. He ordered the amendoim (peanut) gelato on a cone and I ordered avelã (hazelnut) and chocolate on a cone. All were great. The sizes are smaller than the US, but I am one of those people who believes that's a good thing; so to me, the portions were great, especially given how quickly the gelato melted. Inside was cute enough, but we opted to walk to the park and enjoy our treat there. If you do this, be sure to grab napkins. We didn't, and as the gelato melted, I became a gross sticky mess. On our walk back to the car, we stopped back inside to wash up which helped. The prices were a little steep compared to the experience, but it was a treat for the evening and made for a nice dessert date on our honeymoon.

Nonnas Teeth & Tomatoes Pizza is a lively and trendy restaurant known for its delicious Naples-style pizzas. The menu features a rotating Pizza of the Month, and the Amanda Lear pizza comes highly recommended. The atmosphere is described as fun and chill, with various seating options available. Guests praise the exceptional service and welcoming staff, creating a cozy ambiance reminiscent of Italy.
I visited this place several times during my vacation in the Azores – and it was perfect every single time! The young and super friendly team creates such a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. The venue itself is modern, stylish, and really cool. And the highlight: the Neapolitan pizzas are absolutely amazing – light, flavorful, and perfectly baked. Honestly, some of the best pizza I’ve ever had! Everything here is spot on: the vibe, the service, and the food. Definitely a must-visit and 100% recommended.

Pizza 🍕 is good and nearest thing to an authentic Naples Pizza. However our pizzas 🍕 were slightly burnt on the under side and crust, hence the 3 star 🌟. For a plain cheese 🧀 and tomato 🍅 €12 is expensive and over priced. Having said that limoncello 🍋 was only €6 which is decent value so there's a balance. Staff were brilliant 👏 though and super polite.

If your craving pizza, this the place to go. We came here twice! pizzas are fantastic. Drinks were good. Service was great. Your greeted with a warm welcome. Thank you Joanna for taking such good care of us and making us laugh. ❤️ It does get busy, you may be waiting for a table. It's worth the wait!

Everything from the starters to the dessert was absolutely delicious. The pizza is made with top-quality Italian ingredients, and the tiramisu was simply outstanding. The only small note would be for those sensitive to air conditioning inside the restaurant. Overall, a place full of good energy and super friendly staff.

A fun stop when on the island if you’re craving Italian. The space is beautiful and was obviously curated with detail and care. Cocktails were yummy, offering a weekly feature and the host/server were very friendly. Didn’t get a chance to try the food but definitely will next visit

We wanted to have a late dinner on our last night in Ponta Delgada, and a friend recommended this place. We weren’t disappointed! The restaurant was cute with a great vibe, and the pizza was delicious — not oily or salty, just perfect. I absolutely loved it and would love to come back again.

Here you can get authentic Italian pizza in the Azores. The menu is quite small, but there is something for everyone. The tiramisu and the panna cotta with pistachio cream were also very tasty. Definitely worth a visit. However, the music was a bit too loud for us.

What a fantastic find! The atmosphere is fun with a quirky layout and great music. Service was excellent and the staff were super friendly even though the place was packed. They have classic flavour combos as well as some really unique ones! We shared a pizza with a beet purée base with red onion, brie, grilled zucchini, walnuts, and fig jams drizzle and it was delicious! We shared a 1/2 liter of the house red, which was great as well. A very yummy and reasonable night out.

Pizza Spot 2 in Ponta Delgada offers a diverse menu with 10 meal options and various beverages. Customers have praised the delicious thin-crust pizzas with fresh toppings, as well as the flavorful salads. Despite potential language barriers, the friendly staff ensures a pleasant dining experience. The restaurant provides a nice atmosphere and quick service, although it's primarily indoor seating. Visitors recommend trying the Truck pizza and note that there are great deals available.
Really good, reasonably priced pizza and other options in the city. Fairly easy parking to get in, and a nice contemporary and fun vibe in the restaurant itself. Very kind staff, and quick service. The sangria is delicious and the pizzas as well. Good spot for younger kids, as they have options for them as well.

This pizza is so overpriced and not that tasty. Dough is super thin and falls appart. I ordered 30 cm pizza and got smaller size. Definitely not worth the money.
Šerif Z — Google review
Though the furnishing is quite cheap, the food was very good! We had the meatlovers and sweet street pizza's + the soup and salmon salad. All very fresh and the service was very quick! Although the pizza's tasted very good, the prices were quite high (+- €20 for a medium pizza). Would definitely recommend going here if you do not care about a fancy restaurant atmosphere :)
Rob O — Google review
We had two pizzas and a salad and everything was delicious. The pizza had a thin crust and fresh vegetables. The salad was also very fresh and the chicken had a spicy marinade which was quite enjoyable. We don’t speak Portuguese and the waitress didn’t speak too much English but that wasn’t an issue. In the end we got exactly what we wanted and had a great Lunch!
Malte — Google review
The pizza wasn't tasty at all, very far from italian pizza. The dough didn't taste like it was made with yeast (also zero fluffiness), and it lacked salt. There were many people in the restaurant, so maybe the pizza was just not to our taste 🤷‍♀️

Fantastic pizza! Probably the best I’ve had in a long time. Order the truck pizza. They have great deals and the garlic bread was also very good. Highly recommend coming here!

Ananases A Arruda is a historic pineapple plantation on the Azore islands that offers free tours and has a gift shop selling pineapple products. The staff are friendly and the greenhouses display various stages of pineapple production from planting to harvesting. The orchard is an interesting place to visit and the cafe serves delicious pineapple-flavored treats. It's an excellent spot for learning about pineapples, and the gift shop provides great souvenirs.
Worth spending some time here. The entrance is free. One hour is more than enough. You’ll see some pineapple plantations, and I highly recommend trying the local products such as the pie and liqueur.
Eugenio R — Google review
Lovely place to visit, you can see the pineapple plants in different stages of growth. Visiting is free. If you want to, you can buy some fresh pineapple (juice), pineapple pie, ice cream,… in the shop you can try the pineapple liquor too!

Fun place to visit. You can see how pineapples grow and see their stages of growth. There is a cafe/bar with pineapple food and drinks (made from their produce) and a shop where you can also buy some stuff to go (gifts or to consume at home). It’s a relatively quick visit, less than an hour with eating and drinking. Also - it’s FREE to enter.
Polski N — Google review
We had a great experience here. Entrance is free, and there’s a small shop where you can buy souvenirs and local pineapple products. There’s also a nice spot to sit, relax, and sample some tasty pineapple-based treats.
Maria R — Google review
It was a nice experience but nothing WOW. We had a bowl of pineapple each and found 8 euro a bit overpriced for what it was. Just some pieces of pineapple, not wven some juice. Otherwise, still a nice place to visit
Sam V — Google review
Large pineapple plantation with several greenhouses you can visit. Information at the greenhouses themselves is very limited and there was noone to guide us through the plantation at the time of our visit. There was however a video on pineapple farming available for view in the pineapple collection exhibition. The gift shop has a few quite expensive ananas products but also merchandise from the azores and pineapple themed. There is also a small cafe offering cakes made with pineapple.
Stephanie K — Google review
Otherwise, an interesting guided tour of the "urban" small pineapple plantation, and at the end, a commercial part - tasting of pineapple products and a shop selling these products.
Jože H — Google review
Pineapple farm, entrance is free of charge. You are able to see different stages of pineapple farming. Near the entrance, there is a gift shop and a bar. You can drink drinks made of pineapple. Only thing I miss here (in gift shop) are products made of pineapple. There is some room for improvement. There is a free parking space near the farm.

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and immerse yourself in nature at Reserva Florestal de Recreio do Pinhal da Paz. Wonderful park to go for walks. So quiet and relaxing in the off season. I saw loads of deers, they even came to the fence to get fed with grass. A couple of cats live there too and they’re super friendly. There are loads of plants in lush colours. It’s free to walk around the grounds and there’s free parking too.

Definitely worth the stop! A really neat park with several different playgrounds intermixed with several different animal exhibits. There were deer, birds, chickens, turkeys. The kids enjoyed playing on the playgrounds and seeing the different animal exhibits. The park was really well maintained with an open bathroom. Very nice walking trails that were easy to follow and took you through the beautiful landscape of the park. Would make a great place to go for a run. We were there in early season so not much was flowering but I would bet the park was even more beautiful later in the spring.

This place is absolutely AWESOME. I highly recommend stopping at a supermarket and getting some meats / supplies as the park has free wood for a cookout. Just bring some food and everything you need is here, a mini zoo, playground, amazing plants, trees, bamboo, a maze out of plants to walk through, its just an incredible place. If you love baking they even has ovens, so you can not only grill, but bake. Unlike anything I have ever seen in our country.

A really amazing park with lots of BBQ areas and even two pizza ovens. Two playgrounds, one for toddlers, a maze, deer, and lots of other great things to see. This was probably the best park for families that we visited.

Praia das Milicias, also known as Milicias Beach, is a popular spot in Sao Miguel, Azores. It's a favorite among locals due to its accessibility, water quality, and amenities such as lifeguards and a playground. The beach features black sand and offers facilities like public bathrooms, outdoor showers, and beach volleyball nets. Visitors can enjoy swimming in the ocean or simply relaxing on the well-maintained shore. Additionally, there are nearby restaurants and bars for convenience.

PDSOTMF — Google review
Praia das Milícias – São Miguel’s Perfect Balance of Nature and Comfort I recently visited Praia das Milícias (also called Praia Grande) near Ponta Delgada, and it’s without a doubt one of the most enjoyable beaches on São Miguel. It strikes a perfect balance between natural beauty and modern convenience. The scenery is stunning: wide stretches of soft, dark volcanic sand, clear Atlantic water, and a view framed by lush greenery and volcanic rock. Even when it’s busy in summer, it never feels chaotic—the space and the atmosphere make it feel relaxed and welcoming. Access is easy with free, ample parking just steps from the beach. I really appreciated the thoughtful amenities: clean showers and toilets, changing rooms, foot-washing stations, and trash bins. It’s also fully accessible, with ramps, walkways, and even amphibious beach wheelchairs, which is a big plus for families and anyone with mobility needs. Lifeguards are present during the bathing season, and the beach proudly flies the Blue Flag for safety and quality. Praia das Milícias also caters to different kinds of visitors. You can simply relax and swim, but if you’re feeling active, it’s great for surfing, bodyboarding, or even beach volleyball and football. There’s also a small skate track near the entrance, which is a fun and unexpected touch. There are plenty of places to eat nearby. A few steps away you’ll find beach bars like Sunset Beach or Rodinhas Balaia Snack Bar, and across the street, I stumbled upon a local favorite—Bruno’s Bar in the Edifício Populo—for an unexpectedly excellent Philly cheesesteak. During my visit, the water was clean and swimmable, though depending on the day you might encounter some natural debris or the rare jellyfish. Still, it felt very safe and well-managed, and the lifeguards were attentive. In short, this beach has it all—natural beauty, great facilities, family-friendly options, and a laid-back vibe. Whether you’re coming for a swim, surf, or sunset drink, Praia das Milícias is one of São Miguel’s true gems.

Located in Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel island, the Igreja Matriz de São Sebastião is a 16th-century church known for its elaborate facade and intricate interior wood carvings. The church stands out with its tall clock tower and features traces of Manueline art. According to Portuguese chronicler Father Gaspar Frutuoso, it was built after a devastating plague that hit the city.
I had the privilege of visiting Igreja Matriz de São Sebastião, and I was utterly mesmerized! The church's stunning architecture, rich history, and serene ambiance left me in awe. Every detail, from the intricate carvings to the majestic stained-glass windows, spoke of a timeless beauty that transcends generations. The church's peaceful atmosphere invites reflection and contemplation, making it a haven for both the faithful and curious travelers. The surrounding area's charm adds to the overall experience. A must-visit destination for anyone seeking spiritual connection, cultural enrichment, or simply a dose of architectural splendor. Mr. M — Google review
Very interesting old church, Igreja Matriz de São Sebastião, with many elements, such as the ornate main entrance facing Portas da Cidade city landmark, built in the flowery and intricate so-called Manueline style (often observed in Lisbon). The initial construction works on the church began in the first half of the XVIth century. As various other buildings in the Azores, the church combines baroque gilded opulence and stark blackish stone materials quarried locally using basalt lava rocks.

Forte de São Brás, a coastal fortress dating back to 1552, is now home to the Military Museum of the Azores. Located in Ponta Delgada on São Miguel island, this polygonal base construction with four bastions showcases military architecture from the 16th century. The fort has been adapted over time and remains in use for military purposes. Visitors can explore its history and learn about the military heritage of the island at the museum.
Beautiful fort and great that it has been so well preserved. Impressive items from various wars are nicely displayed. It was fun that the gatekeeper immediately knew we were from the Netherlands — that instantly created a connection. A visit to this fort is definitely worth it. Truly recommended!
Martin G — Google review
Built in the 16th century, this fortress once protected the island from pirates and invading forces. Today, it offers beautiful panoramic views of the city and the surrounding landscape. You can walk around the outside for free, but to enter the fortress and museum, there’s a €3 fee for adults. The visit is definitely worth it for both the historical context and the scenic vistas.

Nice historical place in the city. It is a museum inside if you like military objects. The entrance ticket is only 1 euro, the guy at the desk was super nice. The museum is not big according to their map. We did not go inside, because it was raining and we did not want to walk around much. But we will definitely visit it next time.

Lots of history to read and see. Worth the 3€ fee. The grounds are nice to walk around with great views of the marina. A definite place to visit with military history interests.

SPAR - Manteiga is a favored small grocery store in Furnas due to its exceptional gluten-free and lactose-free products. Despite its size, this store offers an impressive selection of fresh fruits and vegetables that often surpass those found at Continente. Located in the heart of Ponta Delgada, it is known for being a great spot to purchase tea and liquor, with better prices than Continente.
Great prices for a neighborhood market. The employees are very friendly and helpful!
D B — Google review
It’s an OK sized supermarket in the middle of town. Their selection of fresh items could be larger and seems more of an afterthought. They don’t have hot food or deli section either.
Y B — Google review
The prices were much higher than other supermarkets, including pingo doce which is a couple minutes walk away. The shelves were barely stocked, with lots of non perishable goods like drinks sparse as well. Admittedly this was just before closing but I wouldn’t expect it to be this empty! Also felt a bit grubby. Tbh I couldn’t believe this was a spar.

Nestled along the route to Sete Cidades, Miradouro do Pico do Carvão is a must-visit viewpoint that offers stunning panoramas of São Miguel Island. Great views of a remarkable island. Expected harsh, windswept and barren island and got a lush, fertile agricultural landscape with stunning views and outlooks. This scenic viewpoint is pretty tight, just a narrow road but vehicles park along the verge and it seems to work. There was even a local selling handmade jewellery. Good views of the green and blue lake on one side and a crater lake on the other side of the road.

Moinho do Pico Vermelho is a charming windmill that stands out with its vibrant colors, especially on sunny days. Very cute. You can drive to the windmill and park somewhere in front of it, the road is wide enough.
Rani B — Google review
It's a nice windmill located in the middle small town. It is very hard to get parking there since the location is in a curve. The place itself is point interest to have maybe a picture since it is en route to other locations.

Beautiful mill close to ocean. You have to park on the street or somewhere close. The isn’t parking place.

A great easy 5-10 min stop. Street parking only and you can only walk around the windmill. Views are cool and the windmill is beautiful

Very well restaurant wind mill. We have been there at sunset illuminating the building

Very underwhelming. It's just a non operational windmill. Not worth a detour.

Restaurant
O Avião, located in Ponta Delgada, is a charming restaurant known for its generous portions and reasonable prices. Despite the laid-back atmosphere and leisurely service, diners are treated to delicious meals that exceed expectations. The simple yet inviting decor creates a cozy environment where locals and visitors alike can savor delectable dishes such as fried bacalhau, grilled tunafish with Azorean sauce, and grilled shrimps with squids and pineapple.
Great food and service. Our table had the roast beef (so tender), chicken, sardines and a traditional plate. Large portions for the price. Come hungry!
Leonor D — Google review
I had my octopus, my husband had seafood mix, and two beers. The waiter brought us some bread and cheese, we had not ordered. After we had the bill, the bread was 2.5 euros and the cheese was also 2.5 euros. We don’t have a problem with 5 euros more in our bill. But we feel it is not right you just bring some food without to asking.

Had an amazing experience at **O Avião** in Ponta Delgada! ✈️ The ambiance was fantastic, with a unique aviation theme that makes you feel like you’re soaring in the skies. The food was absolutely delicious—fresh seafood 🦞 and local flavors 🌊. The staff was super friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. If you're visiting Ponta Delgada, this spot is a must! The perfect blend of great food 🍽️ and top-notch service! 👍

Adéla F — Google review
We were looking for somewhere close to the hotel, and wide range of menu. The service was quick, and the food was huge portions and very tasty! Prices were extremely reasonable.
Dave P — Google review
Had a great dinner here with my girlfriend. Even on a Saturday evening, Ponta Delgada felt like a sleepy little town. The atmosphere was laid back, but this also meant the service wasn’t the fastest. This is not a real complaint though as we weren’t in a rush. The decor was also not the most inspiring but that’s not what we really care about. As for the most important aspect of dining… The food was a hit! The fried bacalhau (cod) was perfect, and so were the sardines. I can honestly say the salad they serve is delicious as well. Overall we would definitely recommend this restaurant and will visit again.
Adrian — Google review
I ordered steak and mixed salad. My fault was i did not asked for price before but who would even guess that they would ask 12euros for some little carrots, some corn and 3 lettuce leaves :) (steak costed 15 euros) that was definitively most expensive salad i bought in my life. I payed less for salad in Dubai. 12 euros for something that in reality shouldnt cost more 4 euros. BE AWARE P.S. Now after visiting more than 20 restaurants and stakehouses on 4 Azoeran islands i can say with confidence that this is most below average and overpriced restaurant i've been in Azores. Who thinks this is good place to eat a meal i am very sorry for him and his taste for food.

Cafe
The cafe Intz48 Coffee Roasters in the Azores is a great place to get coffee, with friendly service and delicious vegan food. The coffee is excellent, and it's a great spot to relax and take in the scenery.
My husband and I ate here twice it was so amazing! The owner is hilarious and the food was incredible. I especially loved how they grilled their vegetables and the goat cheese was truly something out of this world. We had the salad, pizza and omelette and all had the perfect amount of spice and flavor!
Jennie W — Google review
We stopped by this café and had a mixed experience. We ordered a double espresso, which tasted more like an Americano—milder than expected for a double shot. It was okay, but not something we’d return for. Interestingly, although the menu said €4.50, we ended up paying €3.50. Maybe because we got the house blend instead of the single origin Africa - we will never know. It seemed like the owner was running the place solo—handling the barista work, service, and everything else. He was friendly, but service was very slow. The café itself is quite dark inside, though there are a few outdoor tables that were nice. It looks like they roast their own beans on-site, which adds a nice touch to the overall feel. Design-wise, the space felt more practical than aesthetic. We didn’t try any food, as the options seemed overpriced compared to what’s usually available on the Azores or in similar cafés. We didn’t check for Wi-Fi or power outlets either. Overall, an okay stop if you’re curious about their in-house roasting, but there’s definitely room for improvement in both coffee and service experience.
Niklas D — Google review
This place is fantastic. Run by a gentleman from Argentina who knows exactly how he feels about everything. Food is outrageously fresh- biggest most orange egg yolks I have ever seen. I could only eat half a sandwich! The herbs come from his garden! Latte was delicious- just ask what he recommends for the day and go with it. We had the almond croissant and the mozzarella and cheese sandwich- medium hot, add eggs. Absolutely delicious. Pictures don’t do it justice- go try it.
Meaghan G — Google review
The croissant sandwich at Intz48 is indulgent and satisfying, with a perfectly golden, flaky exterior that has just the right amount of buttery crispness. The filling brings balance—fresh greens, a well-cooked egg, and a flavorful protein that ties it all together. The textures work beautifully: the crunch of the croissant contrasts with the softness of the egg and the savory richness inside. Paired with their smooth, aromatic coffee, it makes for a hearty breakfast or brunch option that feels both comforting and elevated. Portion size is generous, presentation is thoughtful, and the taste delivers consistently. This is a go-to choice if you’re looking for something substantial, flavorful, and well-prepared.

Fabulous! The coffee is phenomenal! This is the avocado, tomato sandwich on artesian bread and it’s delicious! Seasoning with the olive oil on the sandwich is so satisfying! So glad we stopped!
Dawn B — Google review
This place was amazing! From the start of our meal their fresh carrot, orange, ginger juice and their cappuccinos were delightful! We got their house made croissants with pistachio crème and their house made banana bread which was to die for. Their pizza was excellent and their omelette was also great. Daniel the owner was hustling around as they were always so busy which was great to see but he brought incredible conversation and personality to the meal. I would 100% go back.

Italian restaurant
Bella Italia offers Italian cuisine including pasta, pizza and grill dishes. The small terrace allows diners to enjoy the warmth of the sun. Friendly service and delicious food make this restaurant a great choice for those looking for a casual Italian dining experience.
Don't go!!! We waited 50 min, without drinks being served until the end. The pizza we've got has nothing to do with what we ordered At the end we had to ask for our drinks and she didn't even know what we had ordered. Absolutely no recommendation!!! I wish we had left after 40min without drinks. Instead we are sitting here with half eaten pizzas, warm coke which we didn't open and defenetly won't pay!!! This has NOTHING TO DO WITH ITALIAN restaurant!!! 🤬

I am forced to give this a star !!!! The staff really did not have a clue what to do. It took at least 30mins to get a drink , we waited for over an hour for the first plate of food to arrive !!!!!! Restaurant
Cais 20 is a renowned restaurant located in Sao Roque on the island of Sao Miguel. Over the years, it has expanded its space to accommodate the growing number of patrons seeking its seafood and snack offerings. The restaurant is celebrated for its generous portions and diverse menu, catering to various preferences including fish, seafood, and meat dishes. One of its highlights is the sumptuous seafood platter featuring the freshest catches expertly grilled and served with delectable sides.
An incredible place to eat outdoors while listening to the sound of the waves and watching the sunset.🌊🌝 It has a large free car park and parking spaces outside the premises. The food here is unique, and although there is a wide variety of all kinds of regional products, today I enjoyed a sweet bread with garlic and local cheese as a starter that unleashes a unique touch on the palate. And for the main course, a T-bone steak so delicious that you'll want to clean the bone🤤 Most importantly, the staff does an incredible job. Always attentive and helpful, with people like that, it's a pleasure to go back there to eat again and again.
Belmonte S — Google review
They offer an extensive menu, mainly focused on fish and seafood. While the food was tasty and well-prepared, I expected a bit more fish on the plate for the price. The menu does not include portion sizes, which makes it harder to decide. Since everything is freshly prepared, be prepared to wait a little longer for your food — but it’s worth it. The staff were friendly and spoke English without any problem. The place is spacious, so you usually don’t need a reservation. The entrance from the coastal road can be a bit confusing — the main entrance and parking area are actually on the opposite side of the building.

Lobster roe and grilled squid on a skewer were the only good things about this place. Service was slow and the grilled limpets were so small compared to other seafood restaurants I've tried. Aside from the nice view, there isn't anything too special about this place. If you're looking for good seafood, there are plenty of other options in the area.
Jenny C — Google review
Came here in search of a late lunch spot, and Cracas. Tourist prices for decent but not outstanding seafood. Ambience: rather large restaurant that sits 100 pax, so service can be slow. laid-back ocean views Food: Cracas pieces looked smaller than what we saw online. Cold crab was fairly fresh (€30/kg). They mix the crab roe with mayo and add extra chicken egg to the center with spicy peppers and crotons to accompany. The limpets were small, and pricier than other places. €20 for 1/2 share, €30 for the full. €5 for 1.5L water.
Ali O — Google review
We were disappointed. The appetizer – shrimp – was served cold and far too salty. We waited about an hour for the main course. That would have been acceptable, but 2 out of 4 dishes were inedible. The steak, ordered medium rare, was raw and not suitable to eat. The other dishes were decent, but the side dishes did not match the mains, so the overall taste of the meals was unbalanced. I do not recommend this place.
Gabriele K — Google review
The service was good. The food was quite expensive and the fish were not tasty ( we ordered two types of fish ) As simple as that… also the vegetables served with the fish ( zucvini, mushroom, eggplant) were not tasty… sorry 😞the only good dish we ordered was the fried sardines . Also the yam and the potatoes were good. Maybe it’s our taste in food… I don’t know but we were really disappointed ☹️ and felt that we paid too much for food we did not enjoy.
אורית א — Google review
Overall an okay experience but giving 4 stars more on the service and ambiance. It was extremely busy and quite loud with servers moving all over the place. Our table was awkwardly placed in the middle where everyone was walking. It took a while to get the food. There is an area with outside seating that has a great view, but it might be hard to get a seat there without a reservation. We got Arroz de Marisco (good for 2 people). The flavor was pretty good and there was a huge amount of seafood in it. However, it was overbearing with clams and very little rice. I found myself wanting more rice because every bite had like 5 clams in it. Charged 5€ just for a large bottle of water. Other restaurants charged around 1.5€.

Came here due to the late hour, we visited furnas and found most kitchens close at 10pm, they are open until 4am. Similar vibe to a US Diner, extensive menu we mostly indescript details, meals come with salad and patatas bravas. We were happy with meals that arrived. Skewers chicken was great chicken was wrapped in ham and rice had pineapple in it. Great char grill flavor. Very busy location and bright lighting is a bit off putting. Loved the view could have more waterfront seats.

Scenic spot
Ponta da Ferraria is a distinctive spa bathing site on Sao Miguel Island, known for its therapeutic hot water springs that have been popular since the 15th century. Unlike other hot springs on the island, Ponta da Ferraria offers a unique experience as it is located in the ocean. The natural thermal-water pool is heated by underwater volcanic vents and cooled by the ebbing tides of the Atlantic.
Very nice pools heated by thermal sources. We went mid-tides and had the perfect mix of warm and cool water. Big free car park next to the (currently closed) Spa. Then 5 minutes walk down to the rock pools.
Raoul D — Google review
Great coast line view, with plenty of walks. The highlight of course is the natural thermal bath in the ocean, open to the public for free. This in our opinion was the nicest of the all the thermal bath experiences on the island… a must visit! Plenty of free parking, and if you arrive a little later in the morning there’s a van serving food and drinks. The key however is to arrive pretty early if you can, we got here between 9 and 9:30 and it was great but 30-45 minutes later it was very busy!
Georgia M — Google review
Incredible swimming hole that is naturally thermally heated, with cooler ocean water being swept in by waves. We came at low tide which is probably best. No entry fee. There’s a fairly large parking lot at the bottom of the hill. There are public toilets and changing rooms although not sufficient for the demand.

It was nice to swim a little in this natural pool at 35 degrees. But beware of the road after the first parking. Rocks can fall down here. If we left 30 seconds earlier, we wouldn't be here. Our car was stuck 24 hours down there.

Beautiful natural thermal pool which you can bath in. We were there at low tide and had a great time. There is a solid, sturdy ladder to climb down into the water and ropes to hold on to. Highly recommend to wear bathing shoes as the rocks are quite rough.

Amazing landscape. A nice place to admire the ocean and the wild of the vulcano roca. The road is not open to the parking down to the termal pool but you can walk like 10 minutes. It was windy day but we enjoyed

This place was magical The idea of having a thermal bath in the middle of the ocean is mind blowing I brought my beach water shoes would advise you to do the same because it’s very rocky, slippery and not even There is a ladder and lifeguards And a rope inside the water to help you stay in place ( the waves are very strong) The water temperature is warm not in the ladder area but closer to the rocks There is public changing rooms and toilets but they’re very very dirty
HAWRAA A — Google review
Check the tide levels before you go. We went on a Sunday morning after it had rained. Road access to the lower parking lot was blocked off (likely to the high winds and rain from the night before). We unfortunately only wore flip flops, and could not make the steep hike down to the water. It looked like it could be a 20 minute walk down.

Nestled in the heart of Ponta Delgada, the Igreja do Colégio dos Jesuítas stands as a testament to the region's rich history and architectural beauty. This Jesuit College Church offers visitors a unique experience that goes beyond typical church visits. The intricate wooden altar is a breathtaking highlight, showcasing remarkable craftsmanship that leaves many in awe.
Incredibly beautiful! We went specifically for the wooden altar in the church part of the museum and it was beyond any expectation. It’s so detailed, so massive, so gorgeous… I’m left speechless :) Really worth a stop! To get in the church, pay 2€ entrance to the museum on the left. Sadly we had a flight to catch and didn’t visit the galleries or the other two sister-museums in the city.

A highlight of visiting Ponta Delgada. Buy the three museum package, it is well worth it. As a Jesuit College, it is unlike most churches you might visit. The ornate woodwork in the chapel is a marvel. The various exhibits in the building are intriguing indeed. The artwork - very compelling & thought provoking. The handheld guided tour is excellent, giving you an in depth tour of the Jesuit College and the various displays. Highly recommended, time well spent.

Very lovely art. This is a very small museum part of a trio of museums which are absolutely worth visiting. There are only five euros for all three but they are all very small. If I had to choose one I would choose the natural history one and then this would be my second. However if you're into really unique things there is a altar alcove in their sanctuary that's entirely carved out of wood. It is quite spectacular.

The Santuário do Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres is a significant religious site associated with a tradition dating back to the 17th century. It holds great importance as it commemorates the nuns' journey to Rome to obtain the papal bull and establish the first convent on the Azores islands. The sanctuary houses the sacred image of Santo Cristo dos Milagres and is revered by the Azorean people, containing valuable treasures of sacred art.
I had the privilege of visiting Santuário do Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres, and I was truly amazed! The church's stunning architecture, serene atmosphere, and rich history make it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking spiritual growth or cultural enrichment. The warmth and hospitality of the community only added to my exceptional experience. I left feeling inspired, renewed, and grateful for the opportunity to connect with something greater than myself. Campo de São Francisco is a historic and picturesque square in Ponta Delgada, with a rich historical past and surrounded by important landmarks. Originally named after the former convent of Sao Francisco, it now serves as the city's gathering spot for events. The square is adorned with two churches, an emigrant monument, and a 150-year-old tree. It also houses the Azores Military Museum within the Forte de Sao Bras, which was once a vital fortress defending against pirate attacks.
Iconic circular city square that withstands the test of time, may it be the beautiful Metrosideros tree, century old churches that hold the hearts and minds of Azoreans spread all over the World or a former hospital turned into a luxury hotel.
Margarida B — Google review
Campo de São Francisco – A Review of Its Past, Place & Presence 🏛 Historical Roots & Surroundings Campo de São Francisco, the largest and most iconic square in Ponta Delgada, owes its name to the Franciscan convent built there in the early 16th century. Construction of the Convento de São Francisco began around 1525, and the adjacent primitive church dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Conceição dates to 1709, later expanded and renamed Igreja de São José in 1714. To the north stands the Convento de Nossa Senhora da Esperança, completed around 1545—the first convent for nuns in Ponta Delgada—home to the statue of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres gifted by Pope Clement VII. This site now contains one of the richest jewellery collections in the Azores. Bordering the square to the south is the military Fort of São Brás, built in the mid-1500s for defence, along with the maritime promenade—forming a striking urban ensemble that blends religious, military, and civic heritage . 🎉 Cultural Significance For over three centuries, Campo de São Francisco has been the spiritual and cultural heart of Ponta Delgada, especially during the famed Festas do Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres, when thousands of pilgrims and locals gather here amidst lights, music, and devotion. The square also hosts summer concerts around its elegant bandstand (coreto), originally inaugurated in 1871, replacing a former ornamental fountain from 1718. That original bandstand tragically burned in 1957 before the festival season but was rebuilt to continue the local traditions. 🌳 Landmark Features & Urban Life Today, the square is more than landmark stones—it’s a living, leafy public space. A majestic Metrosideros tree, planted circa 1870, towers over the plaza and has become a beloved fixture; its aging branches are now supported to preserve its legacy. You can also visit the statue of Mother Teresa da Anunciada, whose devotion helped establish the Santo Cristo festival in Ponta Delgada. Constantly alive, the Campo offers ambient café kiosks, public benches, and hosts drinks or snacks as people enjoy shaded strolls. It’s especially popular in summer evenings when street life buzzes around open-air performances near the coreto. 🔄 Restoration & Public Value Between 2013–14, the city undertook a major requalification project. Costing approximately €961,000 (most funded by EU contributions), the renovation sought to preserve the square’s historic identity while making it more accessible. This included installing a smooth basalt walkway for pilgrims’ processions and updating the bandstand with mechanized platforms for flexible use during events. Mayor José Manuel Bolieiro described the restoration as a “return” of the space to citizens, reinforcing the plaza’s place as a symbol of Azorean identity and public life. 🌟 Final Thoughts Campo de São Francisco is more than a square—it’s a storied canvas, where layers of Azorean religious, civic, and architectural history meet everyday community life. Its borders speak of the convent and churches, its centre pulses with music and tradition, and its trees and pavements hold the marks of centuries of devotion. For residents and visitors alike, it offers solace, celebration, and a uniquely meaningful space in the heart of Ponta Delgada. It’s a perfect place to pause, reflect or join in festivities—and a timeless testament to the spirit of the Azores.

Most definitely one of the main attractions in Ponta Delgada. Very picturesque large leafy square richly soaked in hostorical past and surrounded by Ponta Delgada important landmarks. There exists certain confusion in regard to the square's name. Originally the square was named Campo de São Francisco after the former convent of São Francisco (now Igreja de São José), at the western edge of the square. Later renamed Praça 5 de Outubro to commemorate the overthrow of the Portuguese monarchy on the same day in 1910, the praça (square) has by now, when the revolutionary fervor has subsided, reverted to its original name. Yet another church, certainly worth visiting, is Convento de Nossa Senhora da Esperança, located at the northern edge of the square. Inside, to the left of the entrance there is Sanctuary of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres, one of the most sacred relics for Azorean people. In front of the entrance, inside, there is a beautiful traditional Portuguese azulejos wall (blue ceramic tiles unique to Portugal and its various territories). To the left of the main entrance there is a statue venerating Mother Teresa da Anunciada (1658 - 1738 ), a nun who became famous as the initiator of the devotion to Santo Cristo dos Milagres in the city of Ponta Delgada, today the biggest religious festival in the Azores. Also, not to be missed is a giant tree planted in 1870, of the metosideros variety, also known as New Zealand Christmas Tree. Because of its respected age, the branches are under a constant danger of breaking/falling; they are now being supported by special beams but exercise caution.

A pleasant square to sit and relax. A kiosk for light snacks and drinks.

one of the main squares and one of the oldest ones is surrounded by churches. You can sit here on benches. Main gazebo is used for dancing, as i experienced during my visit. Sao Braz fort on the south, Villa Gale hotel of the west.

Event venue
Teatro Micaelense, established in 1951, is a major cultural hub in Ponta Delgada. It hosts a diverse range of events including plays, film series, dance shows, and poetry gatherings. The venue is known for its eclectic program of performing arts and has showcased some of Portugal's best-known experimental dance performances. With spacious and comfortable seating, the theater offers good acoustics and a large movie screen. However, parking can be challenging due to its location.
Wonderful Theater and Concert Hall. The local Symphonic Orchestra is fantastic and in general I find it astounding what is offered here, given the islands population size. Check out their program and see a concert or other show - its absoultely worth the time and super affordable, too.

I was there for an international conference. It was clean and comfortable.
Aurelie.lucie M — Google review
Great space. Very clean. Reminds me of the 70's with their green velvet chairs that are super comfy. They also have great shows they put on on a regular basis, so check it out! Usually very top notch! Everyone is very friendly and helpful. The room has awesome acoustics so great during performances! They also have a very grand hallway with I think marble!

Only saw this place from the outside. I bet there is more to it than meets the eye. Its Ponta D elgada anyway.
Greur B — Google review
Spacious and comfortable venue. We have seen live music and movies presented here. Good acoustics, comfortable seating, and a large movie screen. The audio was better for the concert, as the movies were a series of shorts and the technicians running the computer equipment didn't adjust the vume which fluctuated, resulting in a few eing very loud. The one downside to this venue is location: parking is difficult and often requires walking many blocks. Additionally, the outdoor space where y ou wait to enter is not covered, and so bring an umbrella. Finally, this often has smokers staying inside the doorway during intermission, which leads to cigarette smoke getting into the auditorium, especially near the seats closest to the entrance. If cigarette smoke bothers you, you may want to get seats closer to the stage and away from the gallery and entrance.

Great venue for a show put on by university students. The bar, alas, had no wine or craft beers.

Such a cute little café! The tea was amazing—I tried the Lovers Tea and totally recommend it. Not too pricey, and the people there were super welcoming. Loved the vibe!

My wife and I enjoyed breakfast here on a Sunday. The lady that served us was so friendly and polite - truly a pleasure 🙏 The food was tasty (especially the yogurt with granola and the pancakes) and price/performance was great. I can definitely recommend coming here if you are looking for a breakfast in Ponta Delgada.

Came here for an afternoon snack. Had the banana cake, match, empada de bacalhau, and the meat muffin. Maria, the owner was precious. I’ve included the hours because Google was wrong. So tasty! Adorable spot!

Away from the city centre, but only minutes from the port, this teahouse serves a very wide selection of teas from around the world as well as locally grown tea. In terms of the food offer it is all fresh, great salads, good home made soup and wonderful cake-try the Matcha with lemon topping, they charge almost daily so you might miss out one day but be fine the next. Restaurant
O Giro is a sophisticated restaurant on Sao Miguel Island that has recently undergone a renovation, giving it a modern and elegant ambiance. The menu features modern Azorean cuisine, and the food is described as tasty with innovative touches. Dishes like shrimps with lemon foam and garlic sauce, tuna, salmon, and pork belly are recommended. The staff is welcoming and knowledgeable, although the service may be a bit slow at times.
Nice intimate atmosphere conducive to conversation. Japanese and European menu. Food was beautifully presented and delicious. Complimentary glass of Prosecco and tapas upon arrival. Attentive and unobtrusive service!
Kathy K — Google review
Ate here 2 nights back to back, had the cod, salmon and tuna. Cod literally melts like butter. The Japanese menu items were also fantastic from the baos to the ramen.
Roger L — Google review
The food was not exceptional, to be honest. The presentation of the plates was nice, but the taste was unremarkable. The service was also lacking. However, the atmosphere was wonderful, with great background music and beautiful furniture.

Nice vibes and atmosphere. Friday night is filled with people, must expect a slower service. We were informed first hand that it will be slow and we accepted that. Drinks came quick so you can enjoy the night without a fizz until you food come. Food quality is okay, average but not exceptional.
Kornjan T — Google review
Very cozy and friendly traditional restaurant, it was recommended to us by a big hotel's staff, when we asked for a recommendation for a good traditional steak meal in close range. The prices are reasonable, 22€ for the plate seen on the picture attached to this review. Another very positive point for foreign tourists is the multilingual staff, I overheard them speaking PT, EN, ES, FR... Ponta Delgada, 20250823

All of our food was verging on inedible due to the salt. Very little flavour other than salt. Outdoor seating is nice. Wait staff seem to be very busy and short-staffed for the number of tables. The ingredients were beautiful and fresh looking, the sauce and broths were the issue. The food LOOKED beautiful. The taste was just not good at all. The waiter asked if everything was OK, since we only ate a bit. We told him it was too salty for our taste and he said, “Japanese food is salty”. Thanks tips! We’ve had Japanese food before and it was delicious. Don’t bother asking if you don’t want to hear the answer.

One of the best food we've had on the island. Two sides to the menu - one typically portuguese/european, one japanese. Service was great, food was amazing. Def recommend!

A very nice place with sophisticated food and a large choice of wines. It is a must try if you want to have a nice dinner with your loved one ! Service was a bit slow but I'm probably probably used to fast service from the metropolitan restaurant 🥲. Anyway , I strongly recommend this restaurant, my favourite one from the island .

Restaurant
The restaurant Calçada do Cais serves modern cuisine with seafood and meat as the main focus. Dishes are beautifully presented, but unfortunately the food did not live up to expectations. The temperature of the dishes was poor and this detracted from the overall experience. Although the prices are reasonable, service was slow.
Such great service, more than 5 stars. The food was tasty. We got the shrimps as appetizer and the crispy octopus with sweet potato pure. The duoro doc red wine is really good; it was one of the best I have tried in PT.🍷 The place was pretty full in the evening, lucky to have a table. To bring the food it wasn't so fast, but understandable, pretty busy place. But in the meanwhile, we enjoyed the wine, bread and appetizer.

This is a gem of a place. The food is amazing, the staff are amazing. What more can I say, except thank you to the team for your friendly, efficient service and to the chef for such yummy food. Oh, and the cocktails were good, too. We visited 3 times in our 2 week holiday.

Very nice place with great staff. Everyone was very friendly and even the owner had a chat with most of the guests. The Food was extremly good and I can highly recommend the restaurant. Steak was of high quality and on point with a great sauce. Veggie options available. The dessert was a highlight as well as the cocktail of the day (Pornstar Martini).

We sat al fresco for dinner and 3 of us including my 7-year old had a great dinner. Our waiter and rest of the staff was welcoming and friendly. Food and drinks were great. We did not need reservations.

This place serves modern cuisine. Menu is focused around seafood and meat. The dishes are finely presented and taste well. We ordered shrimps, seafood linguini and octopus with sweet potato. Different temperature of dishes (one hot one lukewarm) made us unimpressed as did the whole experience. Nothing particularly wrong but nothing outstanding either.
K W — Google review
Food is delicious here. We ate here twice. I can recommend the octupos, beef and the pork. Both meat dishes were very tender. Thanks to Caroline for her tips where to eat limpets and good fish in Sao Miguel island.
Travellingisagift — Google review
Really great food and service, so far the best we had on the archipelago. The place didn’t accept a reservation due to the high demand. We arrived shortly before 7 and got a table, but around 19.30 there was quite some people waiting to be seated. The octopus salad and scallop with risotto was amazing, highly recommend!

Cantinho dos Anjos, located on Rua Hintze Riberiro, is a beloved and historic bar in Santa Maria. This local gem offers a nice atmosphere and affordable drinks, making it a popular spot for both locals and visitors. With its rich history and sentimental value to the community, Cantinho dos Anjos holds numerous memories from travelers and locals alike.
Absolutely loved this spot! Cantinho dos Anjos is the perfect place for a chill evening in Ponta Delgada. The cocktails are amazing — expertly made, creative, and surprisingly affordable for their quality. Prices are very fair across the board, making it easy to enjoy yourself without overthinking your wallet. The atmosphere is vibrant yet relaxed, with a mix of locals and travelers creating a welcoming vibe. The music is perfectly balanced — just loud enough to add energy, but soft enough to enjoy good conversation. The staff were super friendly and made us feel at home right away. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a cozy, stylish bar with great drinks, friendly people, and a memorable ambiance.

Amazing pub!! I enjoyed this time over there having my drinks. Very friendly staff, lovely atmosphere, lots of pictures of ships and Azores, and the most famous whales bone on the main whole of the pub. My recommendation!

We (Shamrock Rovers) met there prior to our football match, staff were overwhelmed by the amount of fans & drink consumed. On the 2nd of 3 days they ran out of draught Super Bock on draught, large bottles and small bottles and Somersby Cider !!! Great staff, great atmosphere, great prices and fun.
Brendan — Google review
The best funky bar in PD to my opinion. Not in a fancy location perhaps, but with many vibes inside. Some tables also scarcely available outside. Good cocktails and some local beers on the tap, including a sweet Stout. They should induce more bitters and IPA’s, left alone the Belgian superior artefacts.

Good beer. Multiple screens with Sport. Free WLAN. Enough said. Full score in my eyes. NOTICE: they don't serve food except bar food like peanuts etc. Just an observation.
Ulla P — Google review
I haven't had their food. But their drinks are great and the prices are right! Not a lot of good margaritas around, but they make a passable margarita even. Personally though I drink where the locals drinks. This is not really a tourist bar. But they'll serve tourists as well. It's a sailor themed establishment.
