Casemates du Bock is a network of underground tunnels and galleries that were initially constructed in 1644 as a defense system. During World War II, it served as a shelter for thousands of residents and soldiers. The historic tunnel, now a UNESCO World Heritage site, features atmospheric passages, different levels, and impressive rock stairways. Today, the Bock Casemates offer visitors an immersive historical experience through centuries of military engineering.
Very beautiful view! We loved it! Despite the masses of foreign tourists we never felt trapped or stuck. Everything is very good organized and the paths are big enough to walk around. There is a free escalator available (up to 25 persons) to travel up and down to the highest or lowest point. Absolute recommendation! Bring enough time to see all the beautiful things around. Visit the church, walk the little paths. Enjoy the small river and feel the warmth of luxembourg. The people are awesome and very friendly. The architecture is historic and modern at the same time. We discovered the city as a coincidence and we fell in love with it. Visit the nice little cozy restaurants, the bars, have a chat and enjoy the hospitality we experienced.

It ok, quite expensive for a few casements. Most the views are either obscured or the same as the last casement, you visited. I don’t think it’s worth €10 and adult. Don’t get me wrong, it’s an impressive feat of workmanship but you don’t really need to go inside to see them. Take photos from the top and the battlements on the bridge instead.
Andrew G — Google review
I visited Casemates du Bock and honestly, it was an amazing experience! The underground tunnels are full of history and mystery — it feels like stepping back in time. The view from the top is breathtaking, especially overlooking Luxembourg City. The place is well maintained and easy to explore. I’d really recommend visiting in the morning when it’s less crowded. Perfect spot for history lovers and photographers. Truly one of the most unique and memorable places in Luxembourg😍😍😍

Nice caves in the cliffs -There was only 1 person in line when i got here around 5 pm. -You get a map of the cave, but its pretty simple, you walk down looking at the rooms/lookouts, there is a few cannons, a well. -On the way out you cross the gate bridge on the inside level

I went on a Sunday at 1130 with their official guided tour which was hosted in English. The tour also offers other languages but do check and reserve your spot in advance as they do not open tours every hour/every day. The guided tour gave a lot of important information about the history of the Casemates, but also the city and urban planning in general. There were hardly any text printed out for visitors to read if you enter without any audio guide/tour guide. Therefore, remember to collect an pamphlet before entering the site if you want to know more about the history of the site. If you want to have more flexibility in exploring and taking photos at the site, I would suggest to explore on your own pace instead of joining the guided tour.
Ah J — Google review
Going around the Casemates was amazing. Our tour guide was absolutely outstanding. Really do recommend paying the extra €8 and getting a tour because they are full of historic information about the history of the Casemates as well as some of the history about Luxembourg itself had a fantastic time took a roundabout about an hour and 15 minutes but it’s well worth a visit!
Shane C — Google review
We were able to buy tickets when we arrived, which was convenient. Students can get tickets for €8 and I was not asked to show any ID. There is very minimal signage and none of it is in English, but they provide a pamphlet in multiple languages with helpful information. The views of the city are great and you get to see everything from a completely different angle than you would from the street. I am directionally challenged and got turned around a couple of times, but it was still easy to find the way out. I am 160 cm and did not feel like the space was small, but my friend who is 170 cm had to watch her head in a few spots. If you are taller than 180 cm, some areas may feel low and not very comfortable to move through. Overall, it was worth the visit.
Annelies V — Google review
I spent 1.5 hours at my own pace, taking in the historical structure, panoramic Grund views, well-lit tunnels, and plenty of stairs. A guided tour would have been better if you can arrange the time.

The Monument of Remembrance, affectionately known as Gelle Fra, is a striking granite obelisk that graces Constitution Square in Luxembourg. Erected in 1923, this poignant memorial honors the brave citizens who volunteered during World War I. Towering at 21 meters, it features a stunning bronze statue of Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, elegantly holding out a wreath—a symbol of honor and remembrance.
Nice war memorial statue. -This was a stop on a ebike tour of the city. -It has history with the statue being hidden during world war 2 and found in a basement in 1980s. -When i was in Luxemburg, aug 2025 there was a mini carnival around this statue, with some small rides, food shops, and games. -Nice views of the valley

William Square, also known as Place Guillaume II, is a 13th-century public square in Luxembourg City named after King William II. It hosts outdoor markets and open-air events, making it a vibrant hub of activity in the heart of the city. The square features the famous bronze statue of Grand Duke William II, an intriguing work of art that attracts tourists and travelers. Visitors can admire this phenomenal sculpture by Antonin Mercie and Victor Peter while exploring the historic buildings and bustling market stalls.
Was very quiet when I visited not many people around, but then again it was about 10 o’clock in the morning. He got busier around lunchtime so some great architecture and I managed to get Small photos of the area.

A festive heart of Luxembourg during the Christmas season! I visited William Square during the Christmas market, and the atmosphere was absolutely magical. The square transforms into a cozy winter wonderland with charming stalls offering affordable mulled wine, popcorn, and Luxembourg-themed souvenirs — perfect for gift shopping or just enjoying the holiday vibes. The city organizes everything beautifully: heated areas, pop-up bars, and festive decorations create a warm and welcoming space to celebrate the season. It’s not just a market — it feels like the whole city gathers here to slow down and enjoy.

Very clean and bougie square. Good parking underneath the square and big enough for a full size european SUV like and X5 or similar vehicle up to 2m tall. Very safe area, close to many good food places, Notre Dame and other sites. Worth seeing once if you get a chance.

This public Square has been around since the 13th century and it's named for The Dutch king William II, who was also the Grand Duke of Luxembourg at the time. Although not the most popular square with tourists, there are several landmarks including the town hall and an equestrian statue of the eponymous king.

The Mäertchen is a cherished traditional market held annually in Luxembourg City, closely tied to the religious observance known as the Octave of Our Lady of Luxembourg. This event honors the Virgin Mary, the patron saint of both the Grand Duchy and its capital. ⸻ 📜 Historical Background The origins of the Mäertchen date back to the 17th century during the Octave pilgrimage, which began in 1666 amid a devastating plague. Believers sought solace and healing by venerating a wooden statue of the Virgin Mary, believed to possess miraculous powers. Over time, this pilgrimage evolved into a significant religious tradition, attracting pilgrims from across the country and the Greater Region to Luxembourg City. The Mäertchen emerged as a complementary event, providing sustenance and goods to fasting pilgrims visiting the city for mass. ⸻ 📍 Location: Place Guillaume II (William Square) The market is traditionally set up in Place Guillaume II, also known as William Square, situated in the heart of Luxembourg City’s historic center. This square serves as a vibrant hub for various cultural events and gatherings throughout the year. ⸻ 🛍️ What to Expect Visitors to the Mäertchen can explore a variety of stalls offering: • Traditional Luxembourgish or ethnic foods: Local delicacies and seasonal treats. • Handcrafted goods: Artisan products and souvenirs. • Religious items: Objects associated with the pilgrimage and local traditions. The market provides a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in Luxembourg’s and international cultural heritage and experience the city’s communal spirit. ⸻ 🗓️ Event Duration The Mäertchen typically spans 16 days, commencing on the third Saturday after Easter and concluding on Pentecost Sunday. In 2025, the event is scheduled to run from May 3rd to May 18th. ⸻ 🚶‍♂️ Visiting Tips • Accessibility: Place Guillaume II is easily accessible by public transportation, with nearby bus and tram stops. • Nearby Attractions: While in the area, consider visiting the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Grand Ducal Palace, and the National Museum of History and Art. • Local Cuisine: Take the opportunity to sample Luxembourgish and ethnic dishes. ⸻ Whether you’re a local resident or a visitor, the Mäertchen offers a delightful blend of tradition, culture, and community spirit, making it a must-experience event in Luxembourg City’s annual calendar.

Cathedral
Church
Cathédrale Notre-Dame is a Catholic cathedral in Luxembourg, built between 1613 and 1621 by the Jesuit religious order. The cathedral showcases a mix of Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance styles. Visitors can admire the wood carvings, sculptures, and stained glass inside. The Baroque-inspired north gate is particularly striking.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re religious or not — visiting the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg is a must. Its architecture is truly unique, with different parts built by various countries over time. There’s a lot to see and to discover inside, and on Saturdays, you can also enjoy organ concerts and immerse yourself in the music. ♥️♥️♥️
Kateryna M — Google review
Heavenly! The stained glass was gorgeous! The morning sunlight filled the church with jeweled toned colors! The organ music was richer than any I had ever heard! I don't know if it was the organ or the organist or the acoustics or all three together, but the sound was divine! The priest was dressed in exquisite vestments and sang like it was a concert performance! If Jesus would have returned at the end of the service, I would not have been surprised!
Rob E — Google review
I visited Notre-Dame after it was suggested by TripAdvisor, and I’m so glad I followed that tip — it truly felt like one of the highlights of my time in Luxembourg. Tucked into the city in a way that still feels central, the church manages to be both grand and incredibly intimate. From the moment I stepped inside, the atmosphere encouraged slow breathing and quiet observation. The soft light moving across the stonework and through the stained glass made everything feel gentle and peaceful, like time had softened its edges for a little while. The volunteers and staff were warm and welcoming without being intrusive, offering a short, friendly introduction that gave helpful context without rushing the experience. There are lovely little corners perfect for sitting and collecting your thoughts, and I found myself lingering longer than planned simply because it felt so restorative. The combination of soothing architecture and a calm, respectful hum of low conversation made it an ideal place to recharge between more bustling sightseeing stops. I particularly enjoyed watching how the light changed as the afternoon moved on — it gave the interior a new mood every few minutes, and made my short visit feel quietly cinematic. Afterward I wandered to a nearby café and carried that sense of calm with me for the rest of the day. If you’re looking for a relaxing cultural break, whether you’re into architecture, reflective moments, or gentle music (they sometimes have short recitals that add a beautiful soundtrack to the space), Notre-Dame is a wonderful pick. Tip: go earlier in the day for the best light and a quieter vibe. Overall, this was a serene and friendly experience — the kind of place that makes you pause, breathe, and appreciate the slower moments of travel. Highly recommended.

I visited Notre-Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg on Christmas Eve, and the atmosphere was truly unforgettable. The entire cathedral was glowing with warm candlelight and soft golden tones, filled with the sound of carols and quiet prayer. There was a sense of peace and reverence that made the evening feel sacred, even for someone just passing through. The soaring ceilings, intricate stained glass, and the gentle murmur of people gathering in silence made it one of the most emotional travel moments I’ve ever experienced. It wasn’t just beautiful — it felt meaningful. A place where stillness meets spirit.

I visited the Cathédrale Notre-Dame in Luxembourg, and it was such a peaceful and beautiful place. The architecture is truly stunning — every corner has amazing details. Inside, the atmosphere feels calm and spiritual, even if you’re not religious. I loved the stained-glass windows; they look magical when sunlight shines through. It’s also very clean and well maintained. A must-visit place if you’re in Luxembourg City — full of history, art, and quiet charm
Mk H — Google review
A really beautiful cathedral in the centre of Luxembourg City. The architecture is impressive from the outside with its tall towers and detailed design, and inside it feels very peaceful and spiritual. The stained glass windows are amazing, especially when the sunlight comes through them. There are also nice statues and decorations everywhere. You can feel the history of the place while walking around. It’s not very big compared to some other European cathedrals but it’s still very special and definitely worth a visit if you are in Luxembourg. The area around it is also very nice to walk and explore.
Kinan R — Google review
The only cathedral in Luxembourg. Built in the Gothic style, but with many Renaissance elements. It has an interesting interior, and since I'm not a fan of lavish golden walls and decorations in such buildings, you won't see much of it here either

Nestled in the heart of Luxembourg City, the Palais Grand-Ducal stands as a stunning testament to history and architecture. Originally constructed in 1572 as the city hall, this magnificent Renaissance building has undergone several transformations over the centuries. It became a government headquarters and eventually was designated as the official residence for the Grand Duke of Luxembourg in 1890.
The Grand Ducal Palace in Luxembourg City is the official residence of the Grand Duke and serves as the center of the country's constitutional monarchy. Located in the heart of the old town, the palace is a stunning example of Renaissance architecture with its elegant façade and ornate details. Originally built in the 16th century as a city hall, it became the residence of the Grand Dukes in 1890. Today, it is used for official ceremonies, receptions, and state functions. While it is generally closed to the public, guided tours are offered during the summer months, allowing visitors to explore its richly decorated interiors, including the throne room and ceremonial halls. The presence of ceremonial guards outside adds to its stately ambiance. The palace stands as a powerful symbol of Luxembourg’s national identity and history, and remains one of the most photographed and admired buildings in the capital.

After you pass William Square you can find the Grand Ducal Palace. The palace was built in 1572 it has been the residence of the Grand Duke since 1890. It represents Luxembourg's monarchy and is a popular tourist attraction. Every hour there is a soldier replacement event, the senior soldier combined with another soldier will arrive to the palace gate, the arrived solider will swap his place with resident soldier, after they leave the solider will guard the place front gate by moving back and forth in harmony way. Worth to watch.
Ali A — Google review
A unique look inside Luxembourg’s royal residence. Worth it all the way! The Grand Ducal Palace is open to the public only during the summer months (usually mid-July to early September). Tickets are 18€ in 2025 and should be booked about a week in advance through the website of the Luxembourg City Tourist Office, as spots sell out really quickly. Also be aware that airport-like security checks are in place when entering the building, so go light. Guided tours last about 75 min out of which 45 min inside the Palace. You’ll visit official state rooms, ceremonial halls, and learn about the history of the monarchy and the building’s architecture. Photography inside is not allowed unless on private tour/invitation, so enjoy the marvelous things during the tour.

The official residence of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, the palace is not generally open to the palace. The building looks Neo-Renaissance and is surprisingly close to William Square and almost intimately close to the street. Just outside the front entrance are the palace guards. Not if guards march up and down the entrance regularly, but they spent a good 10 minutes marching up and down when I was there about mid afternoon. A nice landmark building in the city.

The Palace of Grand Duke is a must-see place in Luxembourg. Even though 200 years ago it used to be just a city hall building, duke Adolphe changed it into a real palace. Normally you can see the palace only from outside but during the holiday season the royal family goes on vacation and everyone can book a guided tour from July to the end of August. Don't miss the chance to see splendid gold-coated interiors!

Ristorante Essenza is a top Italian restaurant located in Ville Haute, offering a blend of traditional and contemporary cuisine. The chefs skillfully combine authentic and modern flavors using pasta, fish, and meat as their main ingredients. The menu features popular dishes like Pappardelle Al Filetto Di Manzo, Spaghetti Al Pomodorino E Pistacchio Siciliano, Pinsa Bufala, and Pinsa Pachino.
Excellent food drink and service. The past were great. From the outside you can’t see it actually a restaurant but the place is cosy and nice.
Sarah-Audrey S — Google review
The atmosphere was pleasant and the taste of olive oil and bread was a nice welcome. We ordered a very nice bottle of Batasiolo Granee Gavi that matched perfectly with the carpaccio of sword fish. Unfortunately the rest of the dinner was a little catastrophe! We waited for one hour a half to get our pasta: a carbonara with truffle that was an insult to Roma; too many mistakes and, although the taste was fine, it could not be defined carbonara. The pappardelle with truffle had a good texture but the taste was missing and I wasn’t expecting to find cream. The truffle was lacking intensity of flavour and it was too thick.

Wow. Wow. Wow. Where do we start. We’ve traveled the world and eaten more Italian food than anyone can imagine, however… they are all ruined for us now. Never have we had such amazing Italian. The pasta is homemade and you can taste it. Every dish has such passion in it. There isn’t a bite you can take, that doesn’t touch your soul. The guy here is also so friendly. The atmosphere is perfect. Oh and let’s talk about the tiramisu… Simply put, the best you’ll ever have. It’s a drive for us to get out here, but we will be making it from now on whenever we need our would touch by the most amazing Italian anyone could ever have!

The RestoDays menu 2024 has been an interesting journey that have tantalized the taste buds. Aa known the restaurant boasts an elegant setting, perfect for both festive weekends and intimate dinners. We were accompanied by our dog and he was highly welcomed. We have received a beautiful table away from the busy part. That way we were able to fully enjoy our diner while our dog was sleeping. The RestoDays menu is a testament to the restaurant’s commitment to freshness and quality. Highlights include the Crudo di mare, a delicate carpaccio of salmon marinated in orange, sesame, and mint, and the sea bass for 10€ more. For those with a sweet tooth, the MilleFoglie with red fruits and the Sorbetto che passione offer a refreshing end to the meal. A good wine out of the Puglia made the dinner complete. Overall, the experience is that Essenza Luxembourg during RestoDays 2024 has been culinary interesting. With its sumptuous dishes, attentive service, and a good ambiance, it’s a dining experience to repeat. We have not been disappointed. All good. Essenza remains a secure address if you look for a nice place to have good food.
Steve L — Google review
I tested this restaurant during the Restodays. The food was good but overall the menu lacked some originality and some “love” from the chef. The pasta hadn’t had much flavor and the sauce seemed as a tomato sauce from the supermarket. The starter was the best part about the menu, the dessert was a bit too sweet for my taste and the presentation was a bit disappointing. The restaurant itself has a lot of charm and the ambiente was very nice. Service was also very good and always brought new bread & were attentively.
Kim F — Google review
If you are used to and know proper Italian food stay away. I ordered a swordfish carpaccio which was tasteless and sensibly smaller than other plates served at the table other than missing tomatoes, showing carelessness at best. Following I ordered the “risotto” with a bisque of shrimps and ginger which turned to be a simple rice with tomato sauce with overcooked and definitely not fresh shrimp. Scoops of grated ginger could be found on the surface to make the dish even less palatable and no trace of any bisque or attempt to recreate the typical creaminess of a risotto.
Tarek A — Google review
Very nice menu choices and lovely staff. Highly suggested for lunch time as the starter+main plate+water/wine is €25 providing good quality for the price paid. I would suggest the pasta based plates over the meat or fish dishes as they have a more rich flavor and overall are more satisfactory from a taste perspective. The dinner menu seems a bit pricy for the plates that we tasted during lunch time, however it remains a nice restaurant for the lunch time. UPDATE: Recently came back for a second time during lunch time and it was even better than the first time.

Bazaar Bar and Restaurant is a stylish and popular bar in Luxembourg that serves up creative Mediterranean & Middle Eastern dishes as well as wine and cocktails. Bazaar Bar & Grill has a nice atmosphere, and the service was the best part. My waitress was very sweet (from France), and even with limited English she worked hard to take care of me. The food overall was disappointing. The fish was salty but still tolerable, so I ate it, but everything else on the plate was far too salty to enjoy. The salad was spoiled and completely inedible. At least the babaganoush with pita was great — honestly the only dish I really enjoyed. For the price they charge, the quality doesn’t make sense. Service was kind, but the food really needs improvement.

I always like to come back to this place. Vibe and interior are great and the food is delicious, with a good vegetarian selection. Kitchen/service are not always the quickest, even at times when it's not super busy, but staff is usually very friendly.
Mimo F — Google review
Very good food and a nice restaurant to spend time at. Good music and atmosphere. We had a toddler with us and it worked great. Two drinks and a lots of shared dishes at a cost of 60€/per person.

First time visit. Food beautifully presented and delicious. Staff was very welcoming and friendly. Service was just rightly paced. Decor is very nice. Pricing correct. Will definitely go back.

Dean & David is a restaurant chain with locations in Luxembourg. They serve vegan and vegetarian food, as well as health bowls and smoothies. Some of the popular items on the menu include the Oliven Schafskase Flatbread, Mango Kokosmilchreis, Caesar Chicken, Chicken Vitality, Crunchy Chicken Bowl.
Absolutely delicious, refreshing food. My family of 7 all loved what they ordered. We ordered the vegan red curry with plant based chicken and also the Buddha bowl and sweet potato chicken bowl. Wish this restaurant was closer to our home in the USA. Thank you for a fantastic meal!

We stopped there for a quick snack in the middle of the day. The food wss good, with a good sauce; however, I think the price-performance a little bit higher in comparison with other options. I would like to try other options from the menu, mainly the bowl, to maybe have a second opinion. The service and the place are nice.
Jose M — Google review
Meals at the place are ok, healthy. Taste of the meals is not that strong, more like mild. I appreciated work of staff that was clearly overloaded. You are doing great job! Maybe you just need another person or two working with you.

Cashier has been really nice and polite taking order. Unfortunately couldn’t say the same about man preparing salad. He was unpleasant and arrogant. Ordered my favorite avocado chicken bowl and I got without avocado. Since the menu and food quality have changed will try to avoid this place.

Great tasting and eye pleasing food. Plenty of choices for vegetarians and non vegetarians. The cappuccino is also great. Portion wise the salads and dishes are good to even in the tad larger side. Price is bit on the high side. Seating is a bit limited. And just at the height of the peak it is possible they run out of steal cutlery.

We come here on a weekly basis. We absolutely love how friendly the staff is, not only to us but also towards our dog (giving him water for example). Additionally, the prices are fair and it's a gem for vegetarians, as you can order vegan chicken substitute instead of actual chicken, it's tasty and nutrient (protein) rich. My favorite dish is the red thai curry (as pictured). You don't have to order on the spot. You can also use the Dean & David app, in advance, pick up your order, sit and eat! Overall we are very happy with this place.

I ordered the avocado poke bowl, which had fresh salmon, vegetables and a nice spicy sauce. The staff was very friendly, he helped me find my favourite flavour :)

Good salads and bowls. I recommand the salmon avocado bowl. The preparation of the food can be long sometime. This is a self service place. Unfortunately the menu on the wall are only in German, not English.

Restaurant
Charles Sandwiches in Luxembourg City offers a variety of popular meals including homemade French fries, the Bacon Cheese Burger, The Casino, The Beef, and The Canadian Caesar Salad. While the food is described as absolutely delicious, there have been some mixed experiences with service. Some customers found that ordering to go was cheaper but noted instances of staff forgetting dishes and slow service during busy times. Despite this, the burgers are highly praised for their fantastic taste and substantial portions.
I'd like to give a special shoutout to the exceptional service provided by one of your gentleman staff members (unfortunately, I didn't catch his name). His warm smile and friendly demeanor made us feel right at home. The service was top-notch, and the sandwiches were absolutely delicious! The Caesar salad is also a must-try - it's amazing! Thank you for an unforgettable experience

We came here for the fast food. The sandwich was good, fresh. However nothing was unique. You can make the same sandwich at home. The burger was good too. Loaded fries was great.
Arina W — Google review
The food is good, I tried the ultimate Burger and it was huge portion, be careful it is not easy to be finished, double patty in each, the meat was ok but I tasted better. The atmosphere is amazing and the staff were great. The local beer is also nice. I recommend to try.
Wajdy S — Google review
Charles Sandwiches is a dream come true for sandwich lovers and foodies alike. The Philly cheese steak was packed with savory flavor, featuring tender beef and melty cheese in a crisp, fresh baguette, while the cheesy mushroom sandwich delivered rich, earthy goodness in every bite. The generous portion of golden fries and fresh Caesar salad on the side added variety and crunch to the meal. Their Battin Blanche beer was the perfect refreshing accompaniment, rounding out a satisfying and memorable dining experience in a cozy, inviting setting.

Incredible, fresh and delicious! 10/10 highly recommended. Would come back on a trip here again. Highlight: THE FRIES 🍟 😮

I Googled several places in Luxembourg to eat and this place came up among other places. I really rely on the reviews on these restaurants and this place rated well. So I thought that I would try their fiery burger and fries. You get a choice of how you would like your burger prepared and I chose smashed. Two smash patties and they did NOT disappoint !! I highly recommend giving Charles sandwiches a try i wish I had done this at the beginning of my stay in Luxembourg because they truly are awesome!
Diana — Google review
A cozy restaurant with deliciously prepared dishes and excellent presentation. The lively and welcoming atmosphere makes it a great place for young people.

Very yummy and cool restaurant. Their sandwiches are delicious, and always a banger! I also like the cesaer salade, but it is nicec either to sit down and enjoy your sandwich with homemade fries or take them with you to go!
