Casemates du Bock is a network of underground tunnels and galleries that were initially constructed in 1644 as a defense system. During World War II, it served as a shelter for thousands of residents and soldiers. The historic tunnel, now a UNESCO World Heritage site, features atmospheric passages, different levels, and impressive rock stairways. Today, the Bock Casemates offer visitors an immersive historical experience through centuries of military engineering.
Very beautiful view! We loved it! Despite the masses of foreign tourists we never felt trapped or stuck. Everything is very good organized and the paths are big enough to walk around. There is a free escalator available (up to 25 persons) to travel up and down to the highest or lowest point. Absolute recommendation! Bring enough time to see all the beautiful things around. Visit the church, walk the little paths. Enjoy the small river and feel the warmth of luxembourg. The people are awesome and very friendly. The architecture is historic and modern at the same time. We discovered the city as a coincidence and we fell in love with it. Visit the nice little cozy restaurants, the bars, have a chat and enjoy the hospitality we experienced.

It ok, quite expensive for a few casements. Most the views are either obscured or the same as the last casement, you visited. I don’t think it’s worth €10 and adult. Don’t get me wrong, it’s an impressive feat of workmanship but you don’t really need to go inside to see them. Take photos from the top and the battlements on the bridge instead.
Andrew G — Google review
I visited Casemates du Bock and honestly, it was an amazing experience! The underground tunnels are full of history and mystery — it feels like stepping back in time. The view from the top is breathtaking, especially overlooking Luxembourg City. The place is well maintained and easy to explore. I’d really recommend visiting in the morning when it’s less crowded. Perfect spot for history lovers and photographers. Truly one of the most unique and memorable places in Luxembourg😍😍😍

Nice caves in the cliffs -There was only 1 person in line when i got here around 5 pm. -You get a map of the cave, but its pretty simple, you walk down looking at the rooms/lookouts, there is a few cannons, a well. -On the way out you cross the gate bridge on the inside level

I went on a Sunday at 1130 with their official guided tour which was hosted in English. The tour also offers other languages but do check and reserve your spot in advance as they do not open tours every hour/every day. The guided tour gave a lot of important information about the history of the Casemates, but also the city and urban planning in general. There were hardly any text printed out for visitors to read if you enter without any audio guide/tour guide. Therefore, remember to collect an pamphlet before entering the site if you want to know more about the history of the site. If you want to have more flexibility in exploring and taking photos at the site, I would suggest to explore on your own pace instead of joining the guided tour.
Ah J — Google review
Going around the Casemates was amazing. Our tour guide was absolutely outstanding. Really do recommend paying the extra €8 and getting a tour because they are full of historic information about the history of the Casemates as well as some of the history about Luxembourg itself had a fantastic time took a roundabout about an hour and 15 minutes but it’s well worth a visit!
Shane C — Google review
We were able to buy tickets when we arrived, which was convenient. Students can get tickets for €8 and I was not asked to show any ID. There is very minimal signage and none of it is in English, but they provide a pamphlet in multiple languages with helpful information. The views of the city are great and you get to see everything from a completely different angle than you would from the street. I am directionally challenged and got turned around a couple of times, but it was still easy to find the way out. I am 160 cm and did not feel like the space was small, but my friend who is 170 cm had to watch her head in a few spots. If you are taller than 180 cm, some areas may feel low and not very comfortable to move through. Overall, it was worth the visit.

A Weekend Well Spent in Luxembourg! Classmates Luxembourg was an absolute delight! We were lucky with the weather, which made our visit even better. We spent hours walking around, exploring the stunning views from various angles, and truly soaking in the beauty of the surroundings. We drove there by car and had no trouble finding parking—plenty of space, no waiting, and reasonably priced. The area is well-equipped with restaurants and food stalls, perfect for grabbing a quick bite on the go. Overall, it was a wonderful weekend escape. Highly recommended for anyone looking to unwind and enjoy some breathtaking scenery!

Nestled in the heart of Luxembourg City, the Palais Grand-Ducal stands as a stunning testament to history and architecture. Originally constructed in 1572 as the city hall, this magnificent Renaissance building has undergone several transformations over the centuries. It became a government headquarters and eventually was designated as the official residence for the Grand Duke of Luxembourg in 1890.
The Grand Ducal Palace in Luxembourg City is the official residence of the Grand Duke and serves as the center of the country's constitutional monarchy. Located in the heart of the old town, the palace is a stunning example of Renaissance architecture with its elegant façade and ornate details. Originally built in the 16th century as a city hall, it became the residence of the Grand Dukes in 1890. Today, it is used for official ceremonies, receptions, and state functions. While it is generally closed to the public, guided tours are offered during the summer months, allowing visitors to explore its richly decorated interiors, including the throne room and ceremonial halls. The presence of ceremonial guards outside adds to its stately ambiance. The palace stands as a powerful symbol of Luxembourg’s national identity and history, and remains one of the most photographed and admired buildings in the capital.
Tiago C — Google review
After you pass William Square you can find the Grand Ducal Palace. The palace was built in 1572 it has been the residence of the Grand Duke since 1890. It represents Luxembourg's monarchy and is a popular tourist attraction. Every hour there is a soldier replacement event, the senior soldier combined with another soldier will arrive to the palace gate, the arrived solider will swap his place with resident soldier, after they leave the solider will guard the place front gate by moving back and forth in harmony way. Worth to watch.
Ali A — Google review
A unique look inside Luxembourg’s royal residence. Worth it all the way! The Grand Ducal Palace is open to the public only during the summer months (usually mid-July to early September). Tickets are 18€ in 2025 and should be booked about a week in advance through the website of the Luxembourg City Tourist Office, as spots sell out really quickly. Also be aware that airport-like security checks are in place when entering the building, so go light. Guided tours last about 75 min out of which 45 min inside the Palace. You’ll visit official state rooms, ceremonial halls, and learn about the history of the monarchy and the building’s architecture. Photography inside is not allowed unless on private tour/invitation, so enjoy the marvelous things during the tour.
Gabriele L — Google review
The official residence of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, the palace is not generally open to the palace. The building looks Neo-Renaissance and is surprisingly close to William Square and almost intimately close to the street. Just outside the front entrance are the palace guards. Not if guards march up and down the entrance regularly, but they spent a good 10 minutes marching up and down when I was there about mid afternoon. A nice landmark building in the city.
Chung H — Google review
The must visit place in Luxembourg city. Can see the Kind and Queen from 5 meter distance. Very old palace. Try the food just in-front of the palace gate too.

It was my first time seeing them on the balcony, I was standing there for 3 hours but it was worth it.

The Palace of Grand Duke is a must-see place in Luxembourg. Even though 200 years ago it used to be just a city hall building, duke Adolphe changed it into a real palace. Normally you can see the palace only from outside but during the holiday season the royal family goes on vacation and everyone can book a guided tour from July to the end of August. Don't miss the chance to see splendid gold-coated interiors!

Church
Cathédrale Notre-Dame is a Catholic cathedral in Luxembourg, built between 1613 and 1621 by the Jesuit religious order. The cathedral showcases a mix of Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance styles. Visitors can admire the wood carvings, sculptures, and stained glass inside. The Baroque-inspired north gate is particularly striking.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re religious or not — visiting the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg is a must. Its architecture is truly unique, with different parts built by various countries over time. There’s a lot to see and to discover inside, and on Saturdays, you can also enjoy organ concerts and immerse yourself in the music. ♥️♥️♥️
Kateryna M — Google review
Heavenly! The stained glass was gorgeous! The morning sunlight filled the church with jeweled toned colors! The organ music was richer than any I had ever heard! I don't know if it was the organ or the organist or the acoustics or all three together, but the sound was divine! The priest was dressed in exquisite vestments and sang like it was a concert performance! If Jesus would have returned at the end of the service, I would not have been surprised!
Rob E — Google review
I visited Notre-Dame after it was suggested by TripAdvisor, and I’m so glad I followed that tip — it truly felt like one of the highlights of my time in Luxembourg. Tucked into the city in a way that still feels central, the church manages to be both grand and incredibly intimate. From the moment I stepped inside, the atmosphere encouraged slow breathing and quiet observation. The soft light moving across the stonework and through the stained glass made everything feel gentle and peaceful, like time had softened its edges for a little while. The volunteers and staff were warm and welcoming without being intrusive, offering a short, friendly introduction that gave helpful context without rushing the experience. There are lovely little corners perfect for sitting and collecting your thoughts, and I found myself lingering longer than planned simply because it felt so restorative. The combination of soothing architecture and a calm, respectful hum of low conversation made it an ideal place to recharge between more bustling sightseeing stops. I particularly enjoyed watching how the light changed as the afternoon moved on — it gave the interior a new mood every few minutes, and made my short visit feel quietly cinematic. Afterward I wandered to a nearby café and carried that sense of calm with me for the rest of the day. If you’re looking for a relaxing cultural break, whether you’re into architecture, reflective moments, or gentle music (they sometimes have short recitals that add a beautiful soundtrack to the space), Notre-Dame is a wonderful pick. Tip: go earlier in the day for the best light and a quieter vibe. Overall, this was a serene and friendly experience — the kind of place that makes you pause, breathe, and appreciate the slower moments of travel. Highly recommended.
Foodie T — Google review
I visited Notre-Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg on Christmas Eve, and the atmosphere was truly unforgettable. The entire cathedral was glowing with warm candlelight and soft golden tones, filled with the sound of carols and quiet prayer. There was a sense of peace and reverence that made the evening feel sacred, even for someone just passing through. The soaring ceilings, intricate stained glass, and the gentle murmur of people gathering in silence made it one of the most emotional travel moments I’ve ever experienced. It wasn’t just beautiful — it felt meaningful. A place where stillness meets spirit.
Les B — Google review
I visited the Cathédrale Notre-Dame in Luxembourg, and it was such a peaceful and beautiful place. The architecture is truly stunning — every corner has amazing details. Inside, the atmosphere feels calm and spiritual, even if you’re not religious. I loved the stained-glass windows; they look magical when sunlight shines through. It’s also very clean and well maintained. A must-visit place if you’re in Luxembourg City — full of history, art, and quiet charm
Mk H — Google review
A really beautiful cathedral in the centre of Luxembourg City. The architecture is impressive from the outside with its tall towers and detailed design, and inside it feels very peaceful and spiritual. The stained glass windows are amazing, especially when the sunlight comes through them. There are also nice statues and decorations everywhere. You can feel the history of the place while walking around. It’s not very big compared to some other European cathedrals but it’s still very special and definitely worth a visit if you are in Luxembourg. The area around it is also very nice to walk and explore.
Kinan R — Google review
The only cathedral in Luxembourg. Built in the Gothic style, but with many Renaissance elements. It has an interesting interior, and since I'm not a fan of lavish golden walls and decorations in such buildings, you won't see much of it here either
Lucca T — Google review
Beautiful church and definitely worth checking out. The crypt was unfortunately closed during my visit and I am not sure what the hours are for that area, but the main part of the church is still very impressive.

The Luxembourg City History Museum, also known as Letzebuerg City Museum, is a captivating journey through over a thousand years of the city's history. Housed in four beautifully renovated 17th-century buildings, this museum showcases original artifacts and models that bring to life the development of Luxembourg City. The museum features a glass elevator that takes visitors on a six-story vertical tour, offering an immersive experience.
Lovely museum not too overwhelming but quite informative. The route is chronological and app guidance is fairly clear. The view of the terrace is pretty. Two or three hour should do for the entire trip.
Yulan Z — Google review
Great museum with the biggest elevator in Europe! Good AC in summer, free water and menstrual products!!! I wish they had some magnets in the museum shop, I didn't buy anything now.
Daphne — Google review
Entrance fee: €5. Opens at 10am and closed on Mondays. It is upsetting that they refused to let me in earlier to wait indoors even though it's pouring outside and I was there just 10 mins before opening hours. Well at least they weren't racist as another group of US visitors were also made to wait outside in the cold and wetness. Brief history of the city, in terms of content, I didn't find much interesting but I would still recommend visiting to see the building itself. It's housed in old buildings from the Middle Ages, but they've done a great job with the interior design that preserved the charming old stone structures while incorporating modern tech such as the panoramic lift that is surrounded by these walls. On Level 2, there's also a terrace one can walk out to for a scenic view of the surroundings but unfortunately it was raining when I was there so I didn't make it out onto the terrace. The exhibit that left the deepest impression here is the Panoramic circular painting. Spanning 17m in length, it depicts architectural landscape and everyday life in Luxembourg under Spanish rule. Amazing painting, standing in the middle of it really makes you feel like you are in the town, walking in the middle of the street. Backpacks are not allowed in the museum but they do have free lockers for you to store them. I also appreciate that they offer free water dispenser here and of course, clean toilets. I was done in about 1.5 hrs covering the 3 floors slowly.
Daphne Y — Google review
Amazing museum! I highly recommend it to anyone, either a resident of the Luxembourg or a visitor! They have pretty beautiful exhibitions! I appreciate also the permanent exhibition about the history of the city. The staff is friendly. There is drinkable water and nice huge elevator. Moreover, there is s nice panoramic view of the city. The price of the entry is quite low. I am sure you gonna love it. Luxembourg City has plenty if things to offer!
Cristian C — Google review
Beautiful museum, very informative. We arrived in Luxembourg in the early afternoon with the goal of exploring the city and getting a few bites to eat. My partner wanted to explore this museum. It was €5 per person. Reception was very friendly and explained how to go through the museum— bottom to top. The 4th floor was unfortunately closed for renovations, so we were unable to see that. However, the rest of the museum was extremely detailed. We loved the topological maps on the lower levels. Our favorite section was floor 5. You can get postcard paper and stamp it throughout the exhibit, creating a wonderful view of Luxembourg.
Isabella — Google review
This museum combines history with technology to create a unique interactive experience. The cities history is lovingly curated and presented in chronological order via the museum's layout. The centerpiece that brings it all together is the massive five story glass elevator that is woven into the medieval buildings structure, which is an incredible attraction of its own. accord.
Mike S — Google review
The museum is very interesting and cognitive. There are 5 floors showing the history of Luxembourg from foundation to the modern day. Lots of historical artefacts, pictures and models of the city at different times. There’s a beautiful view from the top terrace and very slow moving glass elevator.
Arina W — Google review
🏙️ The City Museum was really interesting! 🎓 Free entry for students under 26 — nice bonus! 📊 You’ll find all kinds of exhibits, from creatively presented Luxembourg statistics to history about the German occupation and daily life of Luxembourgers. 🗳️ There are also interactive parts explaining the roles of the Grand Duke, mayors, and citizens — basically, how the political system works. 💌 And the best part — at the end, you can make your own postcard print to take home!

Located in Luxembourg City, the Mudam Museum of Modern Art is a contemporary art museum housed in modern architecture. The museum features a diverse collection and is set in a panoramic location on the walls of a former Fort overlooking the Old City. Designed by Ieoh Ming Pei, known for the Louvre pyramid, its interiors are adorned with modern artists' creations. Visitors can explore pathways filled with excellent artifacts and special works of contemporary art while enjoying appealing paintings and artworks by renowned painters.
Beautifully amazing museum! It has such a wide array of exhibitions and you should give it a try from time to time cause the exhibitions vary! Also have a look at they enchanting events such as concerts and guided tour, some of them for free! I absolutely adore this museum and I highly recommend it to anyone who comes to Luxembourg! I can definitely say it is a must for a visitor! Lastly, the building is modern and manages to mix with th3 medieval part of the city! The staff is also friendly!
Cristian C — Google review
This beautifully designed building has over 6km2 of floor space arranged over 3 floors, although the space is sparsely populated. I would describe the collection as more contemporary art, rather than modern art. I enjoyed the One or Several Tigers and Japanese WWII video exhibitions. Most of the art was not that interesting, although I liked the twisted spiral staircase.
Chung H — Google review
Lovely museum not too far from the city centre. Entry is €10 per adult which is reasonably fair price as the gallery is quite large. No booking in advance required, and there is a nice cafe where you can indulge in some cake and coffee
Natalia — Google review
Amazing museum, 4.5/5, some minor details like more engaging and clear descriptions and seperation of sounds coming from video works. Another point would maybe be informing the staff a bit about the exhibition. When skimming the brochure i saw the "road movie" not realising that it was a conceptual movie i asked where i could see it since it seemed like one of the most important works from the artist. But they pointed me around in wrong directions, non conceptually I think 🤨? After waiting for a specific video i looked it up and realised my mistake. But overal great curation and choice of featured artist, very nice books in the giftshop btw!
Mindfull M — Google review
I started my day here before walking back through the historical sites to the city. All of the works here are modern art, not so many collections but the space, both inside and outside added the worth visiting here. The museum offers one nice cafe that can fit up to 40-50 people.
Noi G — Google review
The exhibition pieces were interesting but I could not grasp every story behind it. It’s definitely very modern. But the building in itself is worth a visit. Side note they also accept German disability IDs and you and your accompaniment can for free.
Flora F — Google review
While the modern art downstairs was interesting to say the least, and definitely not up my alley, the paintings and sculptures were beautiful. Ticket prices were €10 each, which is reasonable, and there was a nice café inside. A nice place to visit.
Longbow — Google review
Interesting place to view. Normally you have to pay for the entry. But on Wednesday evening, as from 19:00 o'clock, the museum is free. I was there to look at an exhibition. But they organise some interesting activities which encourages communication with other people. It was like knowing more about cultures and everything.

It’s really great that this museum is free—no reservation needed, you can just walk in, which makes it easy to visit while strolling around the old town. The entrance has lockers, so it’s convenient if you're carrying things. Although the collection isn't very large, I really liked how the exhibits were displayed. The interior features stone walls that seem like they could be part of historic ruins, adding to the museum's atmosphere and fitting well with its theme. The one downside is that there were no English explanations or translations for the displays, which was surprising in such an international setting. On the plus side, the lighting was well done, the museum kept a peaceful quiet, and staff were present throughout.

5 stars because it’s a fairly large museum and entrance was free! There weren’t many visitors in here which was surprising but also nice because it meant I had the place to myself. Museum has several floors which spans through history and also some modern art.

Free entry to the permanent exhibitions on floors -5 prehistory through the Roman Gallic periods -4321 or something - I spent a lot of time looking at the old masters on +4 level and it was a great place to linger. We probably spent two hours here preferring to be out of the rain on a nasty extreme weather day.

I really enjoyed visiting the National Museum in Luxembourg! The paintings were beautiful, and the museum has several levels in two connected buildings. The entrance was free, and it wasn’t crowded at all on a Sunday afternoon around lunchtime, perfect for a relaxed visit.

A very nice museum! Very broad set of art, going from prehistoric times to modern art, you will for sure find interest in this museum and it is free!! Do not miss the mosaic level -2, personal favorite (: On top of the art pieces in themselves, the buildings are nicely taken care of, very dynamic presentations, nice views of the city. It’s a stop that is worth to make when visiting the city of luxembourg.

Free admission. My visit took about 2 hours — and I’m not even a history enthusiast. What I liked: The architecture is modern and creative, with clever use of the rock and space. The curatorial work is diverse and engaging, with participatory elements that invite visitors to interact. I enjoyed the wide scope of the collection, starting with prehistory (deep in the rock in the lowest underground floor), through the Roman era, and continuing all the way to the 20th century and beyond. The Roman artifacts were particularly fascinating, and the exhibition as a whole really conveyed the uniqueness of Luxembourg. As a fan of early 20th-century art, I was looking forward to the top floor — which was a bit modest but still thoughtfully presented. Highlights for me: The dramatic stairwell views. The large Roman villa mosaic. The massive artwork in the main hall made of hundreds of images. A small but excellent Edward Steichen photography exhibition. What could improve: The maze of floors, staircases, and two buildings can be disorienting — better signage would help. Recommendation: A true gem. Forget about the paid city museum and come here instead — it’s free, rich, and memorable.

Very nice surprise! First it was free (9 august 2025) then to see works by Picasso, De Chirico, Magritte, Lucas Cranach and early italian paintings! And big mosaic! Plus, the museum is quite big and there is a lot to see. Plus, the stuff was nice.

William Square, also known as Place Guillaume II, is a 13th-century public square in Luxembourg City named after King William II. It hosts outdoor markets and open-air events, making it a vibrant hub of activity in the heart of the city. The square features the famous bronze statue of Grand Duke William II, an intriguing work of art that attracts tourists and travelers. Visitors can admire this phenomenal sculpture by Antonin Mercie and Victor Peter while exploring the historic buildings and bustling market stalls.
Was very quiet when I visited not many people around, but then again it was about 10 o’clock in the morning. He got busier around lunchtime so some great architecture and I managed to get Small photos of the area.

A festive heart of Luxembourg during the Christmas season! I visited William Square during the Christmas market, and the atmosphere was absolutely magical. The square transforms into a cozy winter wonderland with charming stalls offering affordable mulled wine, popcorn, and Luxembourg-themed souvenirs — perfect for gift shopping or just enjoying the holiday vibes. The city organizes everything beautifully: heated areas, pop-up bars, and festive decorations create a warm and welcoming space to celebrate the season. It’s not just a market — it feels like the whole city gathers here to slow down and enjoy.

Very clean and bougie square. Good parking underneath the square and big enough for a full size european SUV like and X5 or similar vehicle up to 2m tall. Very safe area, close to many good food places, Notre Dame and other sites. Worth seeing once if you get a chance.

This public Square has been around since the 13th century and it's named for The Dutch king William II, who was also the Grand Duke of Luxembourg at the time. Although not the most popular square with tourists, there are several landmarks including the town hall and an equestrian statue of the eponymous king.

The Mäertchen is a cherished traditional market held annually in Luxembourg City, closely tied to the religious observance known as the Octave of Our Lady of Luxembourg. This event honors the Virgin Mary, the patron saint of both the Grand Duchy and its capital. ⸻ 📜 Historical Background The origins of the Mäertchen date back to the 17th century during the Octave pilgrimage, which began in 1666 amid a devastating plague. Believers sought solace and healing by venerating a wooden statue of the Virgin Mary, believed to possess miraculous powers. Over time, this pilgrimage evolved into a significant religious tradition, attracting pilgrims from across the country and the Greater Region to Luxembourg City. The Mäertchen emerged as a complementary event, providing sustenance and goods to fasting pilgrims visiting the city for mass. ⸻ 📍 Location: Place Guillaume II (William Square) The market is traditionally set up in Place Guillaume II, also known as William Square, situated in the heart of Luxembourg City’s historic center. This square serves as a vibrant hub for various cultural events and gatherings throughout the year. ⸻ 🛍️ What to Expect Visitors to the Mäertchen can explore a variety of stalls offering: • Traditional Luxembourgish or ethnic foods: Local delicacies and seasonal treats. • Handcrafted goods: Artisan products and souvenirs. • Religious items: Objects associated with the pilgrimage and local traditions. The market provides a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in Luxembourg’s and international cultural heritage and experience the city’s communal spirit. ⸻ 🗓️ Event Duration The Mäertchen typically spans 16 days, commencing on the third Saturday after Easter and concluding on Pentecost Sunday. In 2025, the event is scheduled to run from May 3rd to May 18th. ⸻ 🚶‍♂️ Visiting Tips • Accessibility: Place Guillaume II is easily accessible by public transportation, with nearby bus and tram stops. • Nearby Attractions: While in the area, consider visiting the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Grand Ducal Palace, and the National Museum of History and Art. • Local Cuisine: Take the opportunity to sample Luxembourgish and ethnic dishes. ⸻ Whether you’re a local resident or a visitor, the Mäertchen offers a delightful blend of tradition, culture, and community spirit, making it a must-experience event in Luxembourg City’s annual calendar.

It is a nice pretty square in the heart of Luxembourg City but is hardly any different from most other European town squares in essence. Make a beeline for this place while coming from the Notre Dame cathedral to cover the sights and sounds of Luxembourg City.

Fort Thüngen, also known as 'Three Acorns,' is a partially reconstructed fortress originally built in 1732 by the Austrians and later extended by the Prussians. Situated in Luxembourg City's Kirchberg district, it now houses a museum showcasing the city's history from 1443 to 1903. Visitors can explore its underground galleries and mines, which provide access to another fort below, Obergrunewald.
Visited this place on route to Germany from Paris. Very interesting blend of old and new architecture. Definitely worth exploring. Unfortunately my timing was off and I was not able to enter the facility to view the interior. Will have to go back next time. The city itself is also very architecturally significant with lots to see.
Michael S — Google review
Free entry for this fantastic reconstructed fort and museum. The museum does a great job telling the overall military history of Luxembourg. I think it does a much better job than the museum in the city. I took a bus here then walked down. On the way, Google tells you to go through a path which cuts through the woods which isn’t the most accessible.
Ivan C — Google review
My favourite place in Luxembourg. With exhibition indoor and nice arrangements outdoor make Fort Thungen an ideal point of interest for both history and photography enthusiasts.
Murat K — Google review
I popped over to Fort Thungen on a sunny afternoon and it turned out to be one of those easy, low-effort outings that leave you pleasantly surprised. The walk from the tram station is short and simple — about a 10-minute stroll — which makes it a perfect stop if you’re exploring the area or just want a quick break from the bustle. Signs are clear and the route feels safe and pleasant, even with luggage or small kids in tow. The fort itself is a calm little pocket of history tucked into the modern city. It’s not overwhelming or crowded, and the restored walls and walkways make for a gentle, interesting wander. There are spots with lovely views where you can pause and take a few photos or just sit and watch people go by. The atmosphere is relaxed rather than museum-silent, so it’s easy to enjoy whether you’re solo, with a partner, or with family. I’d definitely recommend combining the visit with the nearby Modern Art Museum — it’s just a short walk away and adds a nice contrast to the historical feel of the fort. After inside exhibits, stepping back outside to the park is refreshing. The green spaces around the fort are well kept: paths for a slow walk, benches for reading or snacking, and plenty of room to breathe. If you’re into picnics or a quiet afternoon with a book, this is the kind of place that fits that mood perfectly. Practical tips: wear comfortable shoes for the little incline around the fort, bring a light jacket if it’s breezy up on the walls, and allow an hour or two if you plan to pop into the museum as well. If you’re just after a quick view and some fresh air, 30–45 minutes can be enough. All in all, Fort Thungen is a lovely, low-key stop — easy to reach, pleasant to walk around, and nicely paired with the Modern Art Museum and the surrounding park. It’s one of those spots where you can slow down for a bit and enjoy a peaceful corner of the city. Highly recommend if you want a relaxed outing that’s simple to get to.

A Hidden Gem in Luxembourg City! A fascinating historical site in the heart of Luxembourg City. The fort is beautifully restored and offers great views of the surroundings. The Musée Dräi Eechelen inside is free and very informative. Perfect spot for a peaceful walk and a bit of local history. Highly recommended for both tourists and locals!
Ushodaya N — Google review
No complaints about the fort itself, free admission & plenty of Luxembourg history, there is also a roof terrace you can walk on too. Bit of a short steep hike to get here from the Pfaffenthal lift as we did, unless maybe you get the tram to the Philharmonie / Mudam tram stop & walk from there. The receptionist is authoritarian seemingly just for the sake of it however which sullies the experience. For example, you MUST get a ticket from her even if you aren’t bothering with the museum, if perhaps you only want to access the toilet for instance, because ‘toilets are for guests & guests need tickets’ but when you then ask for the ticket, they don’t actually issue physical tickets because ‘guests don’t need one’ ?! I would question why you need tickets at all if it’s free entry with no ID requirements tbh: they were hardly busy to the point of capacity, on the contrary, when we visited, it was relatively quiet.

Neumünster Abbey, originally built by Benedictine monks in 1688 and expanded in 1720, has a rich history of transformations. It has served various roles including as a police station, prison, and barracks for Prussian forces. During World War II, it held political dissidents resisting Nazi occupation. The abbey now hosts events such as exhibitions, live concerts, and conferences.
Visiting Neumünster Abbey in Luxembourg was a surprisingly peaceful and inspiring experience. The historic abbey, with its beautiful architecture and tranquil courtyards, offers a calm escape right in the middle of the city. Walking through its old stone halls, you can almost feel the centuries of history whispering around you. What I loved most was how the space has been transformed into a vibrant cultural hub, hosting art exhibitions, concerts, and events blending old charm with modern creativity. It’s definitely a must see for anyone who appreciates history, culture, and a touch of serenity while exploring Luxembourg.

In Luxembourg, amidst the renowned chocolatiers like Oberweis, Namur, and Kaempff Kohler, stands the Chocolate House Nathalie Bonn. Located near the Parliament and the Palace of the Grand Duke, this chocolate haven offers locally produced chocolates that can also be enjoyed on-site. The shop features a variety of sweet treats including cakes, cookies, and chocolate bars.
(Visiting from USA) A bartender in Germany recommended we stop here while we visited Luxembourg for a weekend. Such a cute place with HUNDREDS of chocolates and cake options. I wanted to buy everything in the store. We bought a few truffles and pieces of cake! Would have loved to try their coffee options but we went in the afternoon and had plans for dinner. Service was okay, but as English-speakers we’ve learned not to take that personal! It was a great stop, definitely the best chocolate house in the city!
Kailey G — Google review
I've been here a few times and each time, service gets worse. We were the only people in the upstairs area and had to go and ask where our food was after 25 minutes. The food, when it arrived, was good - the lentil and couscous salad was great, and the accompanying sauces were gorgeous. The chocolates are nice but this place is a victim of its own success - I think the thinking is, the clientele are tourists who won't return, hence the sloppy service. Bad move.
Elle J — Google review
We went there upon a friend’s recommendation. Since it’s located close to the city center, it’s very popular & was super crowded when we went. Luckily we got a spot to sit upstairs after only 5 mins of waiting. We already picked out our cake, from the wide array of options… plenty to choose from! We chose a Chocolate caramel cake & a pistachio slice. The cakes were delivered to our table quickly. But we had to wait for more than 30 minutes for someone to even give us a menu for the drinks… and then another 15-20 mins for someone to come take our order for the drinks. They seem to be super busy, but more than 30 mins for taking a drink order is a bit of a wait. Finally, our drinks arrived and they have great vegan milk alternative options and different kinds of chocolate on a spoon. We got the 60% and 70% cocoa with the milk and it comes with some whipped cream and marshmallows on the side! It was delicious and the chocolate was super rich and creamy. The cake portions were really generous and the cakes were the perfect amount of sweet and the frosting was amazing!! I would recommend but perhaps beware that it gets super duper crowded on weekends.
Lakshmi S — Google review
Really packed but honestly, understandable. The hot chocolate selection is great, the cakes super tasty and the ambience rustic and enjoyable. The location is also great, with a beautiful view of the Duke’s palace. Highly recommend!!

They serve local dishes. We tried the Gromperenzalot mat Wirschtercher, which was good and was served with a lot of potato salad. We also tried the vegetarian dish - Vegetaresch Kniddelen mat Rahm a fresch Kraiderzooss (aka flour dumplings). When our order arrived, they had mistakenly added ham to the dumplings. They took it back to the kitchen and just removed most of the ham, which is totally wrong!! We were not happy. Overall, the server was not friendly and we did not feel welcomed from the start. We do not recommend this place! The restaurant did have some interesting looking chocolates and cakes plus they served chocolate drinks.
ROBERT C — Google review
Very very packed but we managed to get a table outside. It was quite cold but honestly it made the hot chocolate even better! We selected our chocolate spoons from inside, ordered a slice of carrot cake from their enormous array of cakes and got a ticket for our order before going outside. The waitress asked us what kind of milk we wanted before shortly bringing us our mugs, a big vegetarian marshmallow for our drinks, and our cake. It was very packed but the service was incredible, the carrot cake was delicious (marzipan icing with almond flakes on top!) and there were blankets available. Worst part was going to pay and waiting in line beside the very tempting chocolate counter!

The Wonder Shop, Willie Wonka's Chocolate Factory, the Taste Lab, a step back in time, a treasure chest in the heart of Luxembourg 🇱🇺 City. Incredible craftsmanship and professionalism can transform every dream into chocolate. I could go on forever, but no words would be enough to describe this immense pleasure for the palate and the eyes! ♥️
Valentina P — Google review
A really cozy place to enjoy a hot chocolate on a chilly day. They serve hot chocolate spoons in a variety of flavors that you can dip into the hot milk they provide. It tastes rich and creamy, and it comes with a separate serving of whipped cream and a marshmallow cube. The place can get a bit crowded, but with two floors for dine in, there’s usually space to find a spot. Prices are a bit higher than elsewhere in Europe, but that's alright given its central location in Luxembourg City, in front of the grand ducal palace.

The museum covers various fields of natural history including zoology, botany, ecology, paleontology, mineralogy, geophysics, and astrophysics. It features exhibition halls with preserved animal and plant specimens and offers a pleasant cafeteria for visitors to eat and rest.
Very well organised museums. Yes, it is not specious but it has all information related to nature and animals. My kids really enjoyed it. It has a slide from the second to the first floor. I got educated on various different species, facts and history today! Our tour of Germany and France stopped at the Luxembourg American Cemetery and it is a lovely and touching monument to the fallen in WW2. The cemetery is meticulously maintained and pristine. You enter through a blue enamelled and gold gate and the first thing that you see are the three huge stone, monolithic monuments. One is a shrine to all of the lost American soldiers that you can enter. The other monuments are two stone walls with the names of the five thousand and seventy four fallen soldiers laid to rest here. The huge, green flat field, surrounded by tall green trees and rose bushes, shield the row after row, of neatly arranged white crosses. General Patton’s grave has a special place of honour, but he is there with his soldiers. It is a very touching tribute. Our visit was an especially moving, because of our friend Frank, from South Carolina, who we met on our tour. He had a service here at his cousin’s grave. Every time that he comes to Europe, he pays his respects to his lost cousin. It was very touching to see that personal connection. There is also a chapel and a visitor centre. A lovely and fitting tribute to the fallen.

If you are traveling this way, or even go out of your way to see this. It the least we can do for the 5073 people who died to secure our freedoms! It is a very pretty site with a natural emotional aura. You can see a lot of the history of the battle (of the bulge) and you see Gen George S Patten Jr grave at the head of the troops.

The Luxembourg American Cemetery is one of the most beautiful and deeply moving places I’ve ever visited. It’s a powerful tribute to the American soldiers who made the greatest sacrifice for freedom during World War II. The grounds are immaculately maintained, peaceful, and full of quiet dignity. Walking through the rows of perfectly aligned white crosses and Stars of David is emotional and humbling. There is so much history here over 5,000 American service members are buried at this cemetery, including General George S. Patton, who rests at the front among the soldiers he commanded. The visitor center has helpful exhibits that explain the significance of the Battle of the Bulge and the sacrifices made in the region. The entire site is a reminder of courage, loss, and the cost of freedom. A beautiful, respectful, and important place to visit. If you’re in Luxembourg, this cemetery is absolutely worth your time.

Beautiful tribute for the soldiers. The cemetery is really well maintained and It's free to enter. The cemetery is a little far from the bus stop It takes 20 minutes of walk. Overall it is very recommended to visit the cemetary.
Marsha G — Google review
This is my second visit to an American military cemetery overseas. While smaller than the Normandy American Cemetery in France, it remains a deeply moving and solemn site. We came here to pay our respects not only to all the servicemen buried here but also to one of the nation’s greatest military leaders, General George S. Patton. His final resting place serves as a powerful tribute to his leadership and the sacrifices of those who served under him. In addition to General Patton, this cemetery is also the resting place of several paratroopers from the famed 101st Airborne Division, whose heroic actions were depicted in the series Band of Brothers. These soldiers fought bravely during the Battle of the Bulge, one of World War II’s most intense and pivotal battles. Visiting this cemetery is a solemn reminder of their sacrifice and the price of freedom.

History of Battle of the Bulge is on display at the visitor center. Cemetery is very well taken care of with beautiful landscaping. Blooming cherry trees in the parking lot were added bonus of the visit.

Beautiful cemetery. Beautiful location, very tasteful and immaculate grounds. A must visit for everyone, especially Americans. General Patton’s grave does not disappoint…you actually get a chance to get close, and pay respects

As I walked the cemetery I started to call the names of the soldiers out loud. Everyone likes to hear their names being called. It is personal, familiarity, and warmth. stand here as witness. I carry no sword. I come with light. Not one of you is forgotten. Not while I stand here. -Frank Baran.

Place de la Constitution is a significant city square in Luxembourg featuring a memorial obelisk dedicated to World War II soldiers, freedom, and resistance. The square is home to the iconic Golden Lady monument commemorating Luxembourgers who perished in the First World War. Additionally, it offers the thrilling Skywalk experience, a suspended glass floor platform providing breathtaking views over the Petrusse Valley and Adolphe Bridge.
This square is in the old town of Luxembourg and built on top of a bastion. Down below are gardens with lovely flowerbeds and walking paths. Adjacent are several landmarks including Pétrusse Casemates, Notre Dame Cathedral and the Monument of Remembrance, WWI memorial to Luxembourg losses.

You can see a amazing view from the Place de la Constitution. It’s definitely a nice photo shooting spot for the Adolphe Bridge. Although I was there in winter, it’s surely a worth-going spot in Luxembourg.

The view from the top is breathtakingly beautiful. However during the peak of summer the temperature can soar quite high! One can also visit the below city not only via stairs but also via lift. The top tourist attractions here are just a stone throw away from each other, the golden lady, cathedral notre dam and the Europe’s balcony. One can also walk around the region as it can be best explored over foot!

Located in the heart of Luxembourg's capital, Casino Luxembourg is a contemporary art center that features both permanent and temporary exhibits. The museum offers a variety of activities to engage children in contemporary art and encourages them to create their own artistic projects. Additionally, it hosts the Summerakademie, a summer school with art classes in multiple languages. The ground floor houses a bookshop, library specializing in contemporary art, learning spaces, and a cafe-restaurant.
The museum is two floors and there are recently exciting exhibitions. It’s free of charge and has a beautiful Luxemburg overview. Also there’s small museum shops where many art books are on sale. Just add it in your Luxemburg travel list.

A nice building from the outside, where inside there is a cultural/artistic association and there was supposed to be a temporary exhibition and a permanent one. As soon as you enter you see the immensity of the building that remains nice. Exhibitions that are practically nothing: on the ground floor there were only two rooms, one empty and the other with only a container with balls. Upstairs a video that lasted more than 20 minutes and two works without explanation. I would not recommend it.

I honestly didn't think I would like this art gallery as much as I did because I'm not a fan of contemporary art, but the exhibits here were inspiring and thought provoking. Especially moving was the VR experience of the "stronger than memory and weaker than dewdrops" exhibition. I would highly recommend a visit, plus it's free!

Pont Adolphe, an iconic stone-arch bridge built in the early 1900s, stands as a testament to Luxembourg's architectural beauty and historical significance. Spanning over 85 meters across the picturesque Petrusse valley at a height of 42 meters, this remarkable structure offers breathtaking views from its upper level. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll or bike ride along the unique pathway beneath the bridge while taking in serene vistas of the surrounding park and river.
The Adolphe Bridge is absolutely beautiful! The architecture is stunning, and the views over the valley are breathtaking. It's a must-see if you're visiting Luxembourg City. We had such lovely walks around the area — peaceful, scenic, and perfect for photos. A great spot to take in the charm of the city and enjoy a relaxing moment.

Be sure to see and cross it, both on the upper and lower platforms (for bicycles and pedestrians). It's one of the city's landmarks. Beautiful views of the cathedral, the city, and the gardens are available. It opened in 1903. Interestingly, there's a replica of this bridge in the States in Philadelphia (1908).
Lucca T — Google review
The Adolphe Bridge is one of the most iconic landmarks in Luxembourg City, symbolizing the country's independence and engineering achievement. Completed in 1903 and named after Grand Duke Adolphe, the bridge was a groundbreaking feat of its time, featuring what was then the world’s largest stone arch. Spanning the deep Pétrusse Valley, it connects the Ville Haute (Upper Town) with the Gare district, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding green landscape and historic buildings. Built from local sandstone, its elegant double-arched design has made it a national symbol. Between 2014 and 2017, the bridge underwent major renovations, including the addition of a suspended pedestrian and bicycle lane below the main deck, enhancing both safety and accessibility. Today, the Adolphe Bridge is not just a vital traffic route but also a scenic walkway and a must-see attraction. Its blend of history, architecture, and functionality makes it a highlight of any visit to Luxembourg.

Pétrusse Casemates is a historical site located beneath the Montee de Clausen, featuring the ruins of a medieval fort with high stone walls and a scenic public park. Ah, what a beautiful experience. The place is full of history. Prepare yourself to dig into the undergrounds of the city and to get to know the old city fortifications. There are a lot of steps downward but the place is very well conserved and the guide is awesome. It's worth the visit.

Interesting and we actually enjoyed the visit, but very very overpriced. 18 euros per person and the tour takes about 20 minutes. I'm not sure I would recommend it...
Orsi S — Google review
Very interesting tunnels beneath the city. A lot of history here, however I felt overpriced for the 20-30mins of visit it takes.
Charles D — Google review
This is an amazing part of the city and I'm very happy to have experienced it. For me a more interesting thing then the Bock casemates. As the other "negative" reviews are saying too: the entrance is pricey. If you keep in mind that all public transport is free in Luxembourg, it could be a nice day activity... But to be honest, half the price would he more reasonable, even for expensive Luxembourg. Still happy that I've went, but wouldn't invite (and pay again for myself) my friends to show them this part again, and that is a pity.
MUSEUM H — Google review
It's interesting but I think a bit pricey for what it really is. It takes 20-30 mins to slowly walk along the tunnels, there are a few info boards and small displays on the way, plus a quite interesting film (wait for your language). You walk down many steps and the exit is by the stream in the valley so you have to climb back ~164 stairs to the entrance.
Pawel M — Google review
The ticketing counter (in a container) is right here beside the monument where one can get tickets to walk thru Pétrusse Casemates. I decided to check it out. €18 per adult, the entire walk thru this refurbished ruins of a medieval fort is estimated to take 20 - 30 mins. I was out in about 15 mins, mainly because it started getting a bit frightening, especially with the dim lighting and sound effects in certain areas, and being in there all alone. If there was someone else with me, even if it was another tourist / stranger, I would have probably stayed longer. It's mostly a down-hill walk through it but quite some steps, and at certain sections, due to the dripping water thru the stones, it can get slippery. In some sections of the fort, they've installed background sounds, such as the bombing planes during WW1, where part of this fort was used as a shelter too. The killer came at the end, as the exit is at the bottom of the valley and I had to climb some flights of stairs, bringing me under the Adolphe Bridge and then upslope till I'm back up on the road level again

The Monument of Remembrance, affectionately known as Gelle Fra, is a striking granite obelisk that graces Constitution Square in Luxembourg. Erected in 1923, this poignant memorial honors the brave citizens who volunteered during World War I. Towering at 21 meters, it features a stunning bronze statue of Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, elegantly holding out a wreath—a symbol of honor and remembrance.
Nice war memorial statue. -This was a stop on a ebike tour of the city. -It has history with the statue being hidden during world war 2 and found in a basement in 1980s. -When i was in Luxemburg, aug 2025 there was a mini carnival around this statue, with some small rides, food shops, and games. -Nice views of the valley

Although the exhibition is not too big, it's a really nice game to visit. Highlight for me was not just the building itself, but the area surrounding it. By discovering info plates here and there I had the impression of finding secrets, f.ex. just for walking through a dark tunnel or going down a historical path along the hill. Scott’s Pub in Luxembourg, hoping for a cozy, authentic pub experience. Unfortunately, it fell a bit flat for me. The staff seemed quite indifferent, barely acknowledging guests, which took away from the welcoming pub vibe I was hoping for. The prices were noticeably high, especially considering the average quality of drinks and food. I was expecting a lively atmosphere but ended up feeling like I was just another face in the crowd. Honestly, for the price and the service, I’d recommend checking out some other spots in Luxembourg that offer better hospitality and value.

Parcs de la Pétrusse is a stunning public park located in the green Pétrusse Valley, featuring steep slopes, unique rock formations, and the remains of fortifications. The park offers an ultra-modern skatepark that serves as a public square and meeting place for board sports enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy activities like skateboarding, rollerblading, BMX, and scootering in this picturesque setting.
This place is amazing. Walking here you really feel like you are out in nature but if you look up you can see you are still in the middle of the city One of the most impressive parks i have seen in europe, incredible use of the terrain. There are ways into the valley all over, so you can do a quick visit or walk all the way through

I stopped by here with a girlfriend on our roadtrip. We needed a little greenery and wandered downhill into this magical place. You really have the feeling that you are escaping from the city, since the climb downhill into this ravine takes some time. The view upwards towards Pont Adolphe is just incredible.

After the first phase of the renaturalisation of the Péitruss, I can confidently say this is the best area Luxembourg City has to offer. It’s a linear park following the Péitruss river in a valley between plateaus. There are parks, fields, outdoor gyms, playgrounds, and cafés. It really has brought something more to the city and in the best possible way, all while embracing nature and strengthening the city’s flood management, really impressive.

Siegfried is a great cafe with delicious food. The staff are amazing and the atmosphere is really great. They just need to improve the ventilation of the space, so you don't smell like fries hours after leaving the restaurant!
We are tourists at Luxembourg on 10th June 2025. As a tourist I can't comment whether the food is good or not, but we liked it. I want to say that we had a great experience because of a waitress who helped us a lot. The menu was in French and we could not understand it, but the waitress there, despite being busy, helped us to read through the menu, introduced the food and gave us recommendations. It made us feel very welcomed :)

Attentive staff, they also host events regularly such as Karaoke night. I sat at the bar because the place was full, so the pictures are not superb but you can see my Latte Macchiato and the food I ordered (Kniddelen aux légumes). The atmosphere is good, it can feel a bit cramped at times but the staff had a really positive attitude about it which made me totally forget how small the place can feel during peak hours. The food tastes good, you do have a paid parking lot next door, everything you need really, can't complain.

Favorite place for quite a long time. Great idea for dinner with friends or lunch, good atmosphere at the bar for a glass on a Friday or Saturday night. I also like karaoke and quizzes, which are held regularly in Siegfried. Good cuisine, especially worth trying the burger and horse steak, they deserve your attention. The service is at a good level, especially the girls at the bar are always smiling and will help you with your choice. The bar menu pleases with its quality and large selection.

Have been going there for over 4 years now, still love it! One of the best schnitzel an kniddelen in town. Love to have some local traditions, also recommend going there for lunch, you get to choose between three options every week, the quality is always very good and the price is very good for the lunch deals. Also really love the staff, they remember you and your usual orders and listen to every wish you could have and try to make it possible. Always good atmosphere, perfect do have a nice, relaxed dinner with good food. Very large variety of GIN, if you love gin tonic, definitely check this place out.

Musée de la Banque is a small and free museum located in Luxembourg. The museum features an interesting exposition and is housed in a beautiful building. It was originally installed in 1923 by Luxembourg sculptor Claus Cito, featuring a 21m-high granite obelisk topped by a wreath-bearing figure. Although it may have been temporarily closed due to ongoing construction work, it remains a great place to visit for those interested in banking history and architecture.
Was closed maybe due to covid. There was also an ongoing construction work right in front of the building, so these were the best shots I could take.

Total fail! The museum is supposed to be open, but in fact is closed. The obviously totally incompentent management is not even able to update the information available online. And if you get there as we did today, the door is open and the lights are on, but the unfriendly employee at the desks tells you that the museum is closed, although CoVid restrictions would allow to let small groups of e.g. 4 persons in. Maximum reputational damage for the Association of Banks in Luxembourg. Worst client relationship management ever seen.

Galerie d'Art Contemporain Am Tunnel is a unique contemporary art gallery located in the underground casemates tunnels of Luxembourg. Originally built to connect four of the city's banks, this gallery offers visitors an immersive experience as they descend four floors below street level to explore its exhibitions. The space showcases works from renowned artists like Luc Peire and Bernd Schuler, along with temporary exhibitions. Additionally, it houses a permanent exhibit featuring Edward Steichen's photography.
I loved Gilliane Warzée's exhibition "We are Women" which will be on display in this gallery until January 23, 2023. Entrance is free. Image capture is prohibited. The published photos are from the catalogue.
Adelaide T — Google review
It's an old tunnel used for shelter purposes, now refit as a contemporary art gallery with varying exhibitions. When I went the exhibition was pretty underwhelming. However the permanent part was better. It's unique being in a tunnel for sure. Free to enter. You need a form of ID to enter. Just walk in to the help desk and ask to see the gallery.
Paul H — Google review
Art gallery in a long corridor without windows (sorry tunnel). Exhibition space, I saw work by Lambert Herr, which was interesting, especially seeing the evolution of the same few concepts. There is a permanent Edward Steichen / photography exhibition too. From the outside, it looks like a bank, which it is, don't worry, you're in the right place, just go in and ask at reception who will give you a pass in exchange for a look at your ID.
Christopher H — Google review
Interesting place to visit, not only for the art gallery itself, but also for the interesting underground construction. Another pearl in Luxembourg to be discovered.
Rosemar A — Google review
On a positive note , the access to this gallery is free which is really nice for tourists . Also, the exhibitions are temporary which makes room for displaying many different works of art However the exposition I attended based on a German photographer's work : "Home and Away" from Christophe Van Biesen was quite a disappointment . Indeed I felt that the photographs , though really beautiful lacked in originality. I was frustrated at first when I was told we weren't allowed to take photos of these photographs. And in the end , I didn't really mind because the photographs were aesthetically pleasing but nothing special .

During my visit, I must admit that my expectations for panoramic views were not fully met. It's worth noting that my trip coincided with the summer season, and ongoing construction work may have obscured some of the vistas. The Statue of the Grand Duchess Charlotte is a bronze monument located in Clairefontaine Square, Luxembourg City. It was erected in 1990 as a tribute to Grand Duchess Charlotte, who ruled Luxembourg from 1919 to 1964 and was widely beloved for her efforts in rebuilding the country after World War II. The statue, sculpted by French artist Jean Cardot, stands behind the Notre Dame Cathedral and serves as a symbol of her enduring legacy.
A very important figure in Luxembourgish history, the statue is near the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and several government offices. There are some benches scattered around if you’d like to take a break from walking or just stare at the statue and the historic buildings around the square.

The Statue of the Grand Duchess Charlotte stands proudly in Clairefontaine Square in Luxembourg City. Unveiled in 1990, it honors Grand Duchess Charlotte, who led Luxembourg through World War II and became a symbol of national unity. Created by French sculptor Jean Cardot, the bronze statue captures her warm, dignified presence, with an outstretched arm that seems to welcome visitors. Surrounded by charming buildings and a tranquil atmosphere, the monument is not only a tribute to a beloved historical figure, but also a popular spot for reflection and photos in the heart of the city.

👑 An Icon of Luxembourg’s History – Statue of Grand Duchess Charlotte 🇱🇺 📍 Place Clairefontaine, Luxembourg City ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ One of the most powerful and elegant monuments in Luxembourg City, the Statue of Grand Duchess Charlotte is not just a statue — it’s a tribute to strength, resilience, and national pride. 🌟 Set in the serene Place Clairefontaine, this bronze sculpture by Jean Cardot perfectly captures the poise and grace of Grand Duchess Charlotte, one of Luxembourg’s most beloved leaders. Her raised hand feels like a welcoming gesture — or perhaps a symbol of her wartime leadership and the hope she gave her people in exile. 📸 The location is a dream for photographers: framed by stately buildings, wrought iron gates, and leafy trees, it offers stunning contrasts in every season. On sunny days like the one in my photo, the play of light and shadow brings the sculpture to life. 📝 Fun fact: Grand Duchess Charlotte ruled from 1919 to 1964 and became a symbol of national unity during WWII. Her statue was unveiled in 1990, and to this day, it remains one of the most photographed landmarks in the city.

We had purchased the Luxembourg city history museum tickets a few days prior so we took advantage of the exhibit here close to opening time. What a pleasure to enjoy the expanse of the building and the unique architecture features of the museum. It was so quiet and the patrons were sparse making the visit extra enjoyable. And although I had to locker up my backpack I received a cute gift of a token attached to a small key chain. (Surprise and delight gift) 🎁 Merci!

Great place for art lovers. The museum holds a lot of classic paintings especially by Italian artists. The collections mainly are landscape paintings and some are portraits. After finishing the museum, you can visit the park next to it.

Small but very pleasant art museum, with a variety of 17th to 20th century paintings including a couple of Canalettos, and a few sculptures. Entry is a mere €5, which also gets you entrance to the Lëtzebuerg City museum!

Great museum including classic art works from 500 years ago to now, also a lot of modern art options and photos also available. Customer service is nice, friendly and collaborative, security guards also polite and aware. I spent an hour but it worth to spend more. Garden also is beautiful and quiet a venue.

Dent Creuse, also known as Hollow Tooth, is a set of ruins on a bridge in Luxembourg City. It offers stunning views of the city and serves as an excellent starting point for exploring the old fortification area. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk around the vicinity, taking in historical buildings and nearby food options within a 10-minute walk to the city center. The site is also close to Casemates du Bock and provides unique photo opportunities with its interesting ruins.
This is a starting point for an excellent walk around this old fortification area of the city. We walk over 3 hours around this area. You are going to love it; if you love historical buildings. Is also close enough that you can walk to the city center; numerous food choices around within 10 minute walk. Area is MUST SEE. We were lucky that they had a local festival and we enjoyed some great hot dogs. NO ENTRANCE FEE :)

I was staying in youth hostel Luxembourg below this historical landmark. I just loved to be on this bridge to get an amazing view of the city. I just spent 2 hours on it trying to get the cool breeze and see far away. I love this place and would love to visit next time.

Basically a set of ruins on a bridge in Luxembourg. You can explore the ruins, and at the same time get a great view of the city from the bridge. It's probably the best view in Luxembourg! Even if you don't have much time, it's definitely worth the short walk across the bridge and back.

The Tramway Museum in Luxembourg City offers a captivating journey through the local transportation history. It is one of the best free museums in Luxembourg, providing an opportunity to explore the evolution of transportation. The museum features restored trams, vintage photographs, detailed models, and exhibits showcasing the impact of tramways on urban development. Visitors can admire various ground transportation tools and even experience sitting in old trams while learning about different eras of engineering industry development.
It's perfect, everyone is welcoming and the museum is super interesting and fun. Perfect thing to visit right before taking the bus to another city/country
Thomas L — Google review
A great place to visit if you find this sort of thing fascinating, which I do! There's a lot of information, in French and Luxembourgish but not English (but that's fair enough, it's in Luxembourg!). Scale models are exquisite and there are life size trams and buses you can view (but sadly not go into as there had been some issues previously with people not taking care). Really interesting place but had very limited opening hours. Very easy to get to by bus
Ian P — Google review
Free museum on trams in Luxembourg. No tickets needed. Great opportunity to see former wagons as well as mechanisms. Kids loved it. Adults can find informative panels as well. Accessible by tram. Free parking. Toilets on site. Best is the very resourceful lady working at the entrance.
Allanah — Google review
Interesting exposition about the history of the tram in Luxemburg, with nice staff and best of all free entry. Unfortunately the area with the preserved vehicles is way too crammed, which makes it difficult to take a look at them and take good photos. Also it is only possible to enter some old trams, but none of the stored buses. The exposition itself is a large collection of old items, pictures, documents and models, displayed in a chronological order, however with almost no explanations. This (understandably) doesn't seem to attract too much visitors. If the whole concept of this museum was improved I think it could become a real attraction, but it still seems to be stuck in the past times when Luxembourg didn't really care about its public transportation. In this state the museum is only recommended for transportation enthusiasts who want to learn about the history of Luxembourg's trams.

Interesting full history of Luxembourg trams and buses actually. - free to enter - lots of parking next to it - can enter some real trams but unfortunately not the buses - very nice models of trams and buses - good self guided tour layout based on the years - nothing else around/walking distance so this one is a must with a car
Hugh J — Google review
Nice museum about the history of trams and buses in Luxembourg. It’s free, not too big, has plenty of old photographs, pieces of machinery, models of the different vehicles and more. The most exciting part is the vehicles that you can enter, sit, and experience what it was like. There’s a parking if you come by car but nothing much around.
Gemma V — Google review
That's one of the most favorite museums of our 4 y.o. son, there were times when we visited it 2-3 times a month 😍 Unfortunately, at the moment the tramways are closed and you can't climb inside (the sign says that it's due to impolite use without any delicacy for the exposition), but I hope they will be opened again one day, since they contribute a lot to museum interactivity ❤️
Olga S — Google review
Definitely recommend visiting the Tram Museum. The museum has a collection of photographs, as well as a huge number of exhibits relating to different years of the development of the engineering industry. Various types of tram driver uniforms, all kinds of automatic machines, models of transport, and accessories are presented in the museum. But the most exciting part is the old trams, where you can sit, touch everything and even ring the bell to stop. It is a rarity when a museum allows you to see everything so closely. Special thanks to the lady museum curator for tips and information.

Visitors can also find details about nightlife options such as jazz clubs, theaters, and concerts. Additionally, tourists can learn about historical landmarks like the turreted palace, which dates back to 1572 and now serves as the Grand Dukes office.
The most helpful and enlightening visit to a tourist office in the whole of Europe. We were very lucky to have been served by Sharon who gave us great information and helped us with so many brochures that we will now be extending our stay to explore all the amazing places and hikes that she has taught us about. Thank you so much Sharon we really appreciate all you kind help!

We drove all around the country of Luxembourg. Loved the animal bridges, the tunnels thru the mountains. All of the beautiful landmarks. My only issue was, when we arrived in the city of Luxembourg, it was a nightmare to find parking. The signs on the road lead you nowhere. The tourist office was a great help.

The office was very helpful, getting us booked in to a City Promenade tour (in English). We enjoyed our stroll around the city with our lovely guide Malou. She was insightful and knowledgeable and could answer any question thrown at her. Thank you for a great afternoon, exploring your beautiful city.

Not very helpful. Very little information, no walking maps or restaurant guides. Lot of empty space in the room with not very helpful or friendly people. It should have more information available about the museums, attractions, shopping and places to eat. The girl that was 1 of 2 people was more interested in her phone then assisting anyone. Skip it and just look on your phone. Also if you are mobility issues there are only stairs to access this office. It should be so much more and carry more information for all of Luxembourg. Also, the people who work there are visitor's first impression of the city and country, they should be more helpful and friendly or at least professional. I didn't get a very good impression.

Tours Vauban is a 4.5-kilometer route that showcases attractions like the Casemates du Bock and the Vauban Towers. Visitors can enjoy a short multilingual video about the history of Pfaffenthal in a small room, with languages including German, Luxembourgish, English, French, and Dutch. The tower is part of Vauban's fortifications and can be accessed via a platform from Fort Niedergrunewald.
A lovely place when walked around waiting for my dinner nearby. Very close to the pfaffenthal elevator. There is a little bridge besides and allows us to take nice pictures. But what a pity the weather was cloudy that day. But we could still fill that Luxembourg was once a castle city. The historic vibe filled the air.

Airport
Luxembourg Airport, which first opened its doors in 1946, is conveniently located just 8km from Luxembourg Centre. Travelers can easily access the city center via bus links such as bus 16 or 29, with a quick and free journey of only 20 minutes. The airport's surroundings offer breathtaking views of lush green landscapes and charming villages, adding to the overall appeal of the travel experience.
This airport, though modest in size compared to major international hubs like Heathrow or JFK, is truly a gem. It offers a seamless and pleasant travel experience, marked by its exceptionally clean and well-maintained facilities—including spacious and hygienic restrooms. The staff are notably warm, courteous, and eager to assist, making every interaction feel welcoming. Accessibility is clearly a priority here, with comprehensive wheelchair access throughout the terminal, ensuring comfort and ease for all travelers. What truly sets this airport apart, however, is the complimentary transportation provided to and from the airport, as well as around the charming and picturesque city of Luxembourg 🇱🇺—a thoughtful and generous service that adds a delightful finishing touch to an already excellent travel experience. 🎂

There is something w/me and small airports. For starters, we’re small but mighty! So sleek and oh-so-charming. It’s giving European boutique energy rather than airport chaos. Cozy enough to feel personal yet polished enough to remind you Luxembourg doesn’t do anything halfway. Security? A breeze. Staff? Genuinely kind [yes, even pre-coffee]. And, the lounges? More private club in the Alps than please-take-your-belt-off vibes. It’s the kind of airport where your stress takes an earlier flight. Minimal walking, maximum efficiency. LUX proves good things really do come in compact, well-designed packages. Merci!
Dior E — Google review
this small, compact airport was the last stop on my two-week trip, and it was a fantastic experience. the convenience is top-notch: you can take a free tram directly from the city centre. add to that the smooth security, plenty of space, and a water refilling station, and you've got an airport that is both efficient and genuinely pleasant. would book another flight just to come back here, joking (maybe).
Elena M — Google review
One of my favorite airports. Great connection to the free public transport. Inside everything is well organized. Great duty free shopping with a huge selection of Luxembourgish products. Some more diversity in food options would make it even better, but everytime I'm visiting this airport it looks better and better.

Clean and tidy airport. Regional feel for big city. Easy public transport and free tram service now runs right to the terminal. But don’t be complacent and allow lots of time for security. At least 90 minutes as you may be lucky and slip right through but queues can be long and security is not fast with all computers and liquids etc needing to be separated. Airside shopping is ok if you like that sort of thing. Passport control opens 90 minutes before flight and can be busy but not usually an issue.
Steve R — Google review
Clean and pleasant airport. Security was fast but had to wait half an hour for customs to show up for a non-schengen flight. Facilities were a bit lacking in terms of food and drink.
James W — Google review
I just love this airport. Just the wright size, very clean and very well organized. Relaxed and peacefull atmosphere. And now, since they introduced direct tram line all the way to the airport, it makes your traveling realy easy.

The playground offers diverse entertainment options for kids of various ages, including water features that provide a refreshing escape on warm days.

One of the best playgrounds we've ever seen. Both my 2-year-old and 9-year-old really enjoyed it. My son said he'd like to move to Luxembourg because of this awesome playground. :)) There's a free toilet right next to the playground.

"This is my new favorite playground," exclaimed my seven-year-old daughter. After completing the Tourist Office's scavenger hunt, we walked to this massive playground. It's within a larger park accessible by public transportation. Here's what we loved about the playground. 1) Amenities: The center of the playground is a massive pirate ship with ropes, ladders, and other things to climb on. Surrounding it are tire swings, two massive slides, and an extensive water area. (Bring your bathing suit!) There's also a small hut that sells candy, ice cream, water, and more. 2) Restrooms: There are several restrooms by a drinking fountain that are somehow kept clean. 3) Shade: There are benches, large rocks, and green areas to sit on with plenty of shade. What a fun way to spend several hours if you have kids!

Superb playground for kids up to some 6-8 years old. Within this range each child will find something entertaining for her, from sand pit to swings to huge slide, ship to climb around and water installations to play with. Highly recommend this place for any parents with the kids.

Two years later my children still talk about this pirate ship playground. We were visiting and a friend mentioned this playground was a must for children. It was amazing! Even now the children agree this is one of the best playgrounds they have been to and they have been to many many playgrounds all around the world!

Great place to take kids in good weather... large wooden ship to climb through in many ways. With very tall tower with slide. Water attractions available... so get ready to see kids get soaked having fun! Nice little area for parents to chill whilst letting their kids run loose.

This place is incredible. I think I had more fun than my 1 year old. The shear size and variety of things to enjoy is amazing. My favourite area is the water streams where you can block the water from flowing down then release it at once. There were kids who were racing toys down the tsunami of water. It was magical. Needless to say I highly recommend this place.

Michaelskirche, also known as St. Michael's Church, is a charming 17th-century Roman Catholic church located in Luxembourg City. It holds the distinction of being the oldest existing religious site in the city, with its origins dating back to the 10th century when it served as the castle chapel for the Count of Luxembourg.
Beautiful historic church, it’s smaller than most European churches but quite cozy and peaceful. The stained glass windows are intricate and very beautiful. They are big and let the light in so wonderfully. There is a pipe organ for services. It has been destroyed and rebuilt several times. It’s worth stopping by, even for 10 minutes or so.
Anna M — Google review
St. Michael’s Church is the oldest religious building in the city, and you can feel that deep history the moment you step inside. It’s small but incredibly peaceful, with soft light filtering through the windows and a simple yet elegant interior that invites reflection. The silence inside offers a beautiful contrast to the busy old town just outside its doors. Whether you’re into architecture, history, or simply looking for a moment of calm, this little church leaves a lasting impression. Entry is free, and it only takes a few minutes to visit — but the serenity lingers long after you leave.

St. Michael's Church is the oldest church in Luxembourg. Its origins date back to 10th century. A set of demolishes and restorations were faced with the church but the current appearence of the church was realised in the end of 1600s. In a weekday, interior was so peaceful and calm. You could also see an old mechanical clock exhibited inside.
