Casemates du Bock is a network of underground tunnels and galleries that were initially constructed in 1644 as a defense system. During World War II, it served as a shelter for thousands of residents and soldiers. The historic tunnel, now a UNESCO World Heritage site, features atmospheric passages, different levels, and impressive rock stairways. Today, the Bock Casemates offer visitors an immersive historical experience through centuries of military engineering.
Very beautiful view! We loved it! Despite the masses of foreign tourists we never felt trapped or stuck. Everything is very good organized and the paths are big enough to walk around. There is a free escalator available (up to 25 persons) to travel up and down to the highest or lowest point. Absolute recommendation! Bring enough time to see all the beautiful things around. Visit the church, walk the little paths. Enjoy the small river and feel the warmth of luxembourg. The people are awesome and very friendly. The architecture is historic and modern at the same time. We discovered the city as a coincidence and we fell in love with it. Visit the nice little cozy restaurants, the bars, have a chat and enjoy the hospitality we experienced.

It ok, quite expensive for a few casements. Most the views are either obscured or the same as the last casement, you visited. I don’t think it’s worth €10 and adult. Don’t get me wrong, it’s an impressive feat of workmanship but you don’t really need to go inside to see them. Take photos from the top and the battlements on the bridge instead.
Andrew G — Google review
I visited Casemates du Bock and honestly, it was an amazing experience! The underground tunnels are full of history and mystery — it feels like stepping back in time. The view from the top is breathtaking, especially overlooking Luxembourg City. The place is well maintained and easy to explore. I’d really recommend visiting in the morning when it’s less crowded. Perfect spot for history lovers and photographers. Truly one of the most unique and memorable places in Luxembourg😍😍😍

Nice caves in the cliffs -There was only 1 person in line when i got here around 5 pm. -You get a map of the cave, but its pretty simple, you walk down looking at the rooms/lookouts, there is a few cannons, a well. -On the way out you cross the gate bridge on the inside level

I went on a Sunday at 1130 with their official guided tour which was hosted in English. The tour also offers other languages but do check and reserve your spot in advance as they do not open tours every hour/every day. The guided tour gave a lot of important information about the history of the Casemates, but also the city and urban planning in general. There were hardly any text printed out for visitors to read if you enter without any audio guide/tour guide. Therefore, remember to collect an pamphlet before entering the site if you want to know more about the history of the site. If you want to have more flexibility in exploring and taking photos at the site, I would suggest to explore on your own pace instead of joining the guided tour.
Ah J — Google review
Going around the Casemates was amazing. Our tour guide was absolutely outstanding. Really do recommend paying the extra €8 and getting a tour because they are full of historic information about the history of the Casemates as well as some of the history about Luxembourg itself had a fantastic time took a roundabout about an hour and 15 minutes but it’s well worth a visit!
Shane C — Google review
We were able to buy tickets when we arrived, which was convenient. Students can get tickets for €8 and I was not asked to show any ID. There is very minimal signage and none of it is in English, but they provide a pamphlet in multiple languages with helpful information. The views of the city are great and you get to see everything from a completely different angle than you would from the street. I am directionally challenged and got turned around a couple of times, but it was still easy to find the way out. I am 160 cm and did not feel like the space was small, but my friend who is 170 cm had to watch her head in a few spots. If you are taller than 180 cm, some areas may feel low and not very comfortable to move through. Overall, it was worth the visit.
Annelies V — Google review
I spent 1.5 hours at my own pace, taking in the historical structure, panoramic Grund views, well-lit tunnels, and plenty of stairs. A guided tour would have been better if you can arrange the time.

Nestled in the heart of Luxembourg City, the Palais Grand-Ducal stands as a stunning testament to history and architecture. Originally constructed in 1572 as the city hall, this magnificent Renaissance building has undergone several transformations over the centuries. It became a government headquarters and eventually was designated as the official residence for the Grand Duke of Luxembourg in 1890.
The Grand Ducal Palace in Luxembourg City is the official residence of the Grand Duke and serves as the center of the country's constitutional monarchy. Located in the heart of the old town, the palace is a stunning example of Renaissance architecture with its elegant façade and ornate details. Originally built in the 16th century as a city hall, it became the residence of the Grand Dukes in 1890. Today, it is used for official ceremonies, receptions, and state functions. While it is generally closed to the public, guided tours are offered during the summer months, allowing visitors to explore its richly decorated interiors, including the throne room and ceremonial halls. The presence of ceremonial guards outside adds to its stately ambiance. The palace stands as a powerful symbol of Luxembourg’s national identity and history, and remains one of the most photographed and admired buildings in the capital.
Tiago C — Google review
After you pass William Square you can find the Grand Ducal Palace. The palace was built in 1572 it has been the residence of the Grand Duke since 1890. It represents Luxembourg's monarchy and is a popular tourist attraction. Every hour there is a soldier replacement event, the senior soldier combined with another soldier will arrive to the palace gate, the arrived solider will swap his place with resident soldier, after they leave the solider will guard the place front gate by moving back and forth in harmony way. Worth to watch.
Ali A — Google review
A unique look inside Luxembourg’s royal residence. Worth it all the way! The Grand Ducal Palace is open to the public only during the summer months (usually mid-July to early September). Tickets are 18€ in 2025 and should be booked about a week in advance through the website of the Luxembourg City Tourist Office, as spots sell out really quickly. Also be aware that airport-like security checks are in place when entering the building, so go light. Guided tours last about 75 min out of which 45 min inside the Palace. You’ll visit official state rooms, ceremonial halls, and learn about the history of the monarchy and the building’s architecture. Photography inside is not allowed unless on private tour/invitation, so enjoy the marvelous things during the tour.
Gabriele L — Google review
The official residence of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, the palace is not generally open to the palace. The building looks Neo-Renaissance and is surprisingly close to William Square and almost intimately close to the street. Just outside the front entrance are the palace guards. Not if guards march up and down the entrance regularly, but they spent a good 10 minutes marching up and down when I was there about mid afternoon. A nice landmark building in the city.
Chung H — Google review
The must visit place in Luxembourg city. Can see the Kind and Queen from 5 meter distance. Very old palace. Try the food just in-front of the palace gate too.
Sinoje S — Google review
It was my first time seeing them on the balcony, I was standing there for 3 hours but it was worth it.
Ferreira E — Google review
The Palace of Grand Duke is a must-see place in Luxembourg. Even though 200 years ago it used to be just a city hall building, duke Adolphe changed it into a real palace. Normally you can see the palace only from outside but during the holiday season the royal family goes on vacation and everyone can book a guided tour from July to the end of August. Don't miss the chance to see splendid gold-coated interiors!

Cathedral
Church
Cathédrale Notre-Dame is a Catholic cathedral in Luxembourg, built between 1613 and 1621 by the Jesuit religious order. The cathedral showcases a mix of Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance styles. Visitors can admire the wood carvings, sculptures, and stained glass inside. The Baroque-inspired north gate is particularly striking.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re religious or not — visiting the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg is a must. Its architecture is truly unique, with different parts built by various countries over time. There’s a lot to see and to discover inside, and on Saturdays, you can also enjoy organ concerts and immerse yourself in the music. ♥️♥️♥️
Kateryna M — Google review
Heavenly! The stained glass was gorgeous! The morning sunlight filled the church with jeweled toned colors! The organ music was richer than any I had ever heard! I don't know if it was the organ or the organist or the acoustics or all three together, but the sound was divine! The priest was dressed in exquisite vestments and sang like it was a concert performance! If Jesus would have returned at the end of the service, I would not have been surprised!
Rob E — Google review
I visited Notre-Dame after it was suggested by TripAdvisor, and I’m so glad I followed that tip — it truly felt like one of the highlights of my time in Luxembourg. Tucked into the city in a way that still feels central, the church manages to be both grand and incredibly intimate. From the moment I stepped inside, the atmosphere encouraged slow breathing and quiet observation. The soft light moving across the stonework and through the stained glass made everything feel gentle and peaceful, like time had softened its edges for a little while. The volunteers and staff were warm and welcoming without being intrusive, offering a short, friendly introduction that gave helpful context without rushing the experience. There are lovely little corners perfect for sitting and collecting your thoughts, and I found myself lingering longer than planned simply because it felt so restorative. The combination of soothing architecture and a calm, respectful hum of low conversation made it an ideal place to recharge between more bustling sightseeing stops. I particularly enjoyed watching how the light changed as the afternoon moved on — it gave the interior a new mood every few minutes, and made my short visit feel quietly cinematic. Afterward I wandered to a nearby café and carried that sense of calm with me for the rest of the day. If you’re looking for a relaxing cultural break, whether you’re into architecture, reflective moments, or gentle music (they sometimes have short recitals that add a beautiful soundtrack to the space), Notre-Dame is a wonderful pick. Tip: go earlier in the day for the best light and a quieter vibe. Overall, this was a serene and friendly experience — the kind of place that makes you pause, breathe, and appreciate the slower moments of travel. Highly recommended.
Foodie T — Google review
I visited Notre-Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg on Christmas Eve, and the atmosphere was truly unforgettable. The entire cathedral was glowing with warm candlelight and soft golden tones, filled with the sound of carols and quiet prayer. There was a sense of peace and reverence that made the evening feel sacred, even for someone just passing through. The soaring ceilings, intricate stained glass, and the gentle murmur of people gathering in silence made it one of the most emotional travel moments I’ve ever experienced. It wasn’t just beautiful — it felt meaningful. A place where stillness meets spirit.
Les B — Google review
I visited the Cathédrale Notre-Dame in Luxembourg, and it was such a peaceful and beautiful place. The architecture is truly stunning — every corner has amazing details. Inside, the atmosphere feels calm and spiritual, even if you’re not religious. I loved the stained-glass windows; they look magical when sunlight shines through. It’s also very clean and well maintained. A must-visit place if you’re in Luxembourg City — full of history, art, and quiet charm
Mk H — Google review
A really beautiful cathedral in the centre of Luxembourg City. The architecture is impressive from the outside with its tall towers and detailed design, and inside it feels very peaceful and spiritual. The stained glass windows are amazing, especially when the sunlight comes through them. There are also nice statues and decorations everywhere. You can feel the history of the place while walking around. It’s not very big compared to some other European cathedrals but it’s still very special and definitely worth a visit if you are in Luxembourg. The area around it is also very nice to walk and explore.
Kinan R — Google review
The only cathedral in Luxembourg. Built in the Gothic style, but with many Renaissance elements. It has an interesting interior, and since I'm not a fan of lavish golden walls and decorations in such buildings, you won't see much of it here either
Lucca T — Google review
It was really interesting to see how the inside looked. Would definitely recommend stopping by for anyone visiting Luxembourg.

Located in Luxembourg City, the Mudam Museum of Modern Art is a contemporary art museum housed in modern architecture. The museum features a diverse collection and is set in a panoramic location on the walls of a former Fort overlooking the Old City. Designed by Ieoh Ming Pei, known for the Louvre pyramid, its interiors are adorned with modern artists' creations. Visitors can explore pathways filled with excellent artifacts and special works of contemporary art while enjoying appealing paintings and artworks by renowned painters.
Beautifully amazing museum! It has such a wide array of exhibitions and you should give it a try from time to time cause the exhibitions vary! Also have a look at they enchanting events such as concerts and guided tour, some of them for free! I absolutely adore this museum and I highly recommend it to anyone who comes to Luxembourg! I can definitely say it is a must for a visitor! Lastly, the building is modern and manages to mix with th3 medieval part of the city! The staff is also friendly!
Cristian C — Google review
This beautifully designed building has over 6km2 of floor space arranged over 3 floors, although the space is sparsely populated. I would describe the collection as more contemporary art, rather than modern art. I enjoyed the One or Several Tigers and Japanese WWII video exhibitions. Most of the art was not that interesting, although I liked the twisted spiral staircase.
Chung H — Google review
I started my day here before walking back through the historical sites to the city. All of the works here are modern art, not so many collections but the space, both inside and outside added the worth visiting here. The museum offers one nice cafe that can fit up to 40-50 people.
Noi G — Google review
The exhibition pieces were interesting but I could not grasp every story behind it. It’s definitely very modern. But the building in itself is worth a visit. Side note they also accept German disability IDs and you and your accompaniment can for free.
Flora F — Google review
While the modern art downstairs was interesting to say the least, and definitely not up my alley, the paintings and sculptures were beautiful. Ticket prices were €10 each, which is reasonable, and there was a nice café inside. A nice place to visit.
Longbow — Google review
Mudam is a must-visit in Luxembourg City for anyone who enjoys contemporary art. The building itself is stunning—modern architecture by I.M. Pei that blends beautifully with the old fortress walls. Inside, the exhibitions are thought-provoking and well-curated, with a great mix of international and local artists. A cultural highlight of the city!
Mousa S — Google review
Interesting place to view. Normally you have to pay for the entry. But on Wednesday evening, as from 19:00 o'clock, the museum is free. I was there to look at an exhibition. But they organise some interesting activities which encourages communication with other people. It was like knowing more about cultures and everything.

A glass roof echo chamber on a Sunday afternoon atmospheric when quiet - could be irritating when crowded - current exhibition a female New York artist in most of the spaces - I especially enjoyed a perfect affogato from the cafe also a nice place to relax but too hot when the sun comes out

The Luxembourg City History Museum, also known as Letzebuerg City Museum, is a captivating journey through over a thousand years of the city's history. Housed in four beautifully renovated 17th-century buildings, this museum showcases original artifacts and models that bring to life the development of Luxembourg City. The museum features a glass elevator that takes visitors on a six-story vertical tour, offering an immersive experience.
Lovely museum not too overwhelming but quite informative. The route is chronological and app guidance is fairly clear. The view of the terrace is pretty. Two or three hour should do for the entire trip.
Yulan Z — Google review
Great museum with the biggest elevator in Europe! Good AC in summer, free water and menstrual products!!! I wish they had some magnets in the museum shop, I didn't buy anything now.
Daphne — Google review
Entrance fee: €5. Opens at 10am and closed on Mondays. It is upsetting that they refused to let me in earlier to wait indoors even though it's pouring outside and I was there just 10 mins before opening hours. Well at least they weren't racist as another group of US visitors were also made to wait outside in the cold and wetness. Brief history of the city, in terms of content, I didn't find much interesting but I would still recommend visiting to see the building itself. It's housed in old buildings from the Middle Ages, but they've done a great job with the interior design that preserved the charming old stone structures while incorporating modern tech such as the panoramic lift that is surrounded by these walls. On Level 2, there's also a terrace one can walk out to for a scenic view of the surroundings but unfortunately it was raining when I was there so I didn't make it out onto the terrace. The exhibit that left the deepest impression here is the Panoramic circular painting. Spanning 17m in length, it depicts architectural landscape and everyday life in Luxembourg under Spanish rule. Amazing painting, standing in the middle of it really makes you feel like you are in the town, walking in the middle of the street. Backpacks are not allowed in the museum but they do have free lockers for you to store them. I also appreciate that they offer free water dispenser here and of course, clean toilets. I was done in about 1.5 hrs covering the 3 floors slowly.
Daphne Y — Google review
Amazing museum! I highly recommend it to anyone, either a resident of the Luxembourg or a visitor! They have pretty beautiful exhibitions! I appreciate also the permanent exhibition about the history of the city. The staff is friendly. There is drinkable water and nice huge elevator. Moreover, there is s nice panoramic view of the city. The price of the entry is quite low. I am sure you gonna love it. Luxembourg City has plenty if things to offer!
Cristian C — Google review
Extensive amount of information, presented in an engaging way. Learnt lots about the history of Luxembourg. €5 for adult ticket which also includes free entry to Villa Vauban. Interesting temporary exhibition about languages on at the time of writing this review. Great outdoor view of the Grund area from upper levels.
Lil T — Google review
Beautiful museum, very informative. We arrived in Luxembourg in the early afternoon with the goal of exploring the city and getting a few bites to eat. My partner wanted to explore this museum. It was €5 per person. Reception was very friendly and explained how to go through the museum— bottom to top. The 4th floor was unfortunately closed for renovations, so we were unable to see that. However, the rest of the museum was extremely detailed. We loved the topological maps on the lower levels. Our favorite section was floor 5. You can get postcard paper and stamp it throughout the exhibit, creating a wonderful view of Luxembourg.
Isabella — Google review
The museum is very interesting and cognitive. There are 5 floors showing the history of Luxembourg from foundation to the modern day. Lots of historical artefacts, pictures and models of the city at different times. There’s a beautiful view from the top terrace and very slow moving glass elevator.
Arina W — Google review
🏙️ The City Museum was really interesting! 🎓 Free entry for students under 26 — nice bonus! 📊 You’ll find all kinds of exhibits, from creatively presented Luxembourg statistics to history about the German occupation and daily life of Luxembourgers. 🗳️ There are also interactive parts explaining the roles of the Grand Duke, mayors, and citizens — basically, how the political system works. 💌 And the best part — at the end, you can make your own postcard print to take home!

In Luxembourg, amidst the renowned chocolatiers like Oberweis, Namur, and Kaempff Kohler, stands the Chocolate House Nathalie Bonn. Located near the Parliament and the Palace of the Grand Duke, this chocolate haven offers locally produced chocolates that can also be enjoyed on-site. The shop features a variety of sweet treats including cakes, cookies, and chocolate bars.
A lovely chocolate shop with charming decor and a warm atmosphere. They offer a wide variety of cakes, and the staff are incredibly friendly. Of course, I couldn’t resist trying the no-sugar chocolate cake. it was absolutely delicious! I really like this place.

Upstairs, I ordered hot milk with a chocolate speculoos spoon of my choice. Delicious!!! I also tried the carrot and chocolate mousse cake, the carrot cake tasted better for me. The selection of chocolates downstairs is amazing. I tried the pistachio one 😋 I think it is nicer to have a drink outside, but on Saturday it was a bit windy, that’s why we preferred to go inside (which I would make it more comfortable, if I may make a suggestion). But very nice. I would come back for more chocolates 🍫

I've been here a few times and each time, service gets worse. We were the only people in the upstairs area and had to go and ask where our food was after 25 minutes. The food, when it arrived, was good - the lentil and couscous salad was great, and the accompanying sauces were gorgeous. The chocolates are nice but this place is a victim of its own success - I think the thinking is, the clientele are tourists who won't return, hence the sloppy service. Bad move.

(Visiting from USA) A bartender in Germany recommended we stop here while we visited Luxembourg for a weekend. Such a cute place with HUNDREDS of chocolates and cake options. I wanted to buy everything in the store. We bought a few truffles and pieces of cake! Would have loved to try their coffee options but we went in the afternoon and had plans for dinner. Service was okay, but as English-speakers we’ve learned not to take that personal! It was a great stop, definitely the best chocolate house in the city!
Kailey G — Google review
We went there upon a friend’s recommendation. Since it’s located close to the city center, it’s very popular & was super crowded when we went. Luckily we got a spot to sit upstairs after only 5 mins of waiting. We already picked out our cake, from the wide array of options… plenty to choose from! We chose a Chocolate caramel cake & a pistachio slice. The cakes were delivered to our table quickly. But we had to wait for more than 30 minutes for someone to even give us a menu for the drinks… and then another 15-20 mins for someone to come take our order for the drinks. They seem to be super busy, but more than 30 mins for taking a drink order is a bit of a wait. Finally, our drinks arrived and they have great vegan milk alternative options and different kinds of chocolate on a spoon. We got the 60% and 70% cocoa with the milk and it comes with some whipped cream and marshmallows on the side! It was delicious and the chocolate was super rich and creamy. The cake portions were really generous and the cakes were the perfect amount of sweet and the frosting was amazing!! I would recommend but perhaps beware that it gets super duper crowded on weekends.

A good variety of cakes, it was a tough decision before I settled for the Lotus Cake (a biscoff cheesecake). Seats are outdoors or upstairs. Cosy upstairs and you can order a beverage after being seated, while waiting for the cake to be served. It was a delightful dessert, sweet-tooth craving satisfied.
Daphne Y — Google review
Really packed but honestly, understandable. The hot chocolate selection is great, the cakes super tasty and the ambience rustic and enjoyable. The location is also great, with a beautiful view of the Duke’s palace. Highly recommend!!

It is a very special place. Worth visiting. We had a meal upstairs, and it has its charm. It took some time to get our meal. The meal was nice, surely homemade. We ordered a chocolate cake, their special chocolate drink and coffee. The chocolate drink is surely quality, but very intense. The chocolate cake did not impress us. It was quite dry as if it had been made a couple of days ago, and the chocolate taste was not intense.

The Panoramic Elevator of the Pfaffenthal is a modern structure that provides elevator rides to a viewing deck with a glass floor. It was built in 2016 to improve pedestrian and bicycle mobility between Luxembourg City's historical city-centre, Ville Haute, and the quarter of Pfaffenthal in the Alzette valley. The elevator offers unique views over the Alzette Valley and has quickly become a popular tourist attraction.
A great viewpoint to take in the city—completely free of charge! The stunning backdrop makes it a perfect spot for memorable photos.
Chuu0417 — Google review
Finally found the glass bridge after nearly 2 hours of walking. There are no signs to direct you until you are actually there! You walk through a tunnel and end up at the glass observation stand and a small glass floor part. The views are good and we got the glass lift down to the streets, it only took seconds.
Carolyn B — Google review
I took the panoramic lift in Luxembourg, a cool experience with a great view over the city. Unfortunately, the glass platform is not fully transparent anymore due to years of use, but it still adds a fun touch. Best part? It’s completely free! Definitely worth a quick visit for a unique perspective of Luxembourg from above.
Michaela — Google review
Beautiful Luxembourg, I can’t get enough of this great city and its amazing facilities. And this elevator is free to go up and down and enjoy the breathtaking view and surroundings. The sky bridge has amazing view and great experience.
Wajdy S — Google review
The Panoramic Elevator of the Pfaffenthal connects the upper city of Luxembourg to the lower Pfaffenthal district while offering stunning views over the Alzette Valley. The ride is smooth, quick, and completely free. At the top, there’s a glass platform where you can take in the dramatic landscape and snap incredible photos. A perfect spot for a scenic pause during your city walk.
Les B — Google review
Great view from the glass deck at the top, and a quick ride into lower part of the city. The glass was a little dirty, but still, it was very pretty. Access to the elevator from the city centre through Pescatore park.
Charlotte H — Google review
This is not only a sightseeing spot. It’s also a transporation tool for the citizens. It takes 30 seconds to travel from the valley to the hill. It’s an amazing installation. We found it very convenient to use the lift or we had to walk for at least 20 mins to go uphill. And of course, the view from the lift was really nice.
Gin C — Google review
Nice glass elevator and a glass viewing platform at the top. -I was here twice, once on my own, and once with ebike tour. -Access is free, there is no tickets or payment needed, free for the public, there is washrooms at the bottom. -You can bring bikes in, altho maybe alot of people in the long hallway at the top, or the elevator, but bikes are allowed. -The elevator is pretty fast, you dont have to wait long for it. -There is a nice view of the valley from the glass viewpoint that sticks out the front.

The National Art and History Museum, also known as MNHA, is a significant cultural institution in Luxembourg City. Established in 1845 by the Archaeological Society, it houses an extensive collection of fine art, decorative art, archaeology, and coins. The museum's history includes a split in 1988 that led to the creation of the National Museum of Natural History.
The entrance fee is for free. Not many people now, so there are not many in the museum. There are more connected buildings, new and old ones together. The atmosphere is so special. Absolutely recommend! It is a great place👍
Magda — Google review
It’s really great that this museum is free—no reservation needed, you can just walk in, which makes it easy to visit while strolling around the old town. The entrance has lockers, so it’s convenient if you're carrying things. Although the collection isn't very large, I really liked how the exhibits were displayed. The interior features stone walls that seem like they could be part of historic ruins, adding to the museum's atmosphere and fitting well with its theme. The one downside is that there were no English explanations or translations for the displays, which was surprising in such an international setting. On the plus side, the lighting was well done, the museum kept a peaceful quiet, and staff were present throughout.
Nida Ö — Google review
5 stars because it’s a fairly large museum and entrance was free! There weren’t many visitors in here which was surprising but also nice because it meant I had the place to myself. Museum has several floors which spans through history and also some modern art.
Ivan C — Google review
Free entry to the permanent exhibitions on floors -5 prehistory through the Roman Gallic periods -4321 or something - I spent a lot of time looking at the old masters on +4 level and it was a great place to linger. We probably spent two hours here preferring to be out of the rain on a nasty extreme weather day.
Ultimobile — Google review
I really enjoyed visiting the National Museum in Luxembourg! The paintings were beautiful, and the museum has several levels in two connected buildings. The entrance was free, and it wasn’t crowded at all on a Sunday afternoon around lunchtime, perfect for a relaxed visit.
Dana P — Google review
This museum is well taken of and the displays are beautiful along with the organization and layout of the museum. Like many recommendations here I suggest starting at the bottom floor (-5) and work your way up as the exhibits and collections work chronologically from bottom to top. Best part is this museum is free! They do have free bag lockers at the front. You put a Euro in to lock it but you get it back when you're done using it.
Dakota D — Google review
Free admission. My visit took about 2 hours — and I’m not even a history enthusiast. What I liked: The architecture is modern and creative, with clever use of the rock and space. The curatorial work is diverse and engaging, with participatory elements that invite visitors to interact. I enjoyed the wide scope of the collection, starting with prehistory (deep in the rock in the lowest underground floor), through the Roman era, and continuing all the way to the 20th century and beyond. The Roman artifacts were particularly fascinating, and the exhibition as a whole really conveyed the uniqueness of Luxembourg. As a fan of early 20th-century art, I was looking forward to the top floor — which was a bit modest but still thoughtfully presented. Highlights for me: The dramatic stairwell views. The large Roman villa mosaic. The massive artwork in the main hall made of hundreds of images. A small but excellent Edward Steichen photography exhibition. What could improve: The maze of floors, staircases, and two buildings can be disorienting — better signage would help. Recommendation: A true gem. Forget about the paid city museum and come here instead — it’s free, rich, and memorable.
Jiří Š — Google review
Very nice surprise! First it was free (9 august 2025) then to see works by Picasso, De Chirico, Magritte, Lucas Cranach and early italian paintings! And big mosaic! Plus, the museum is quite big and there is a lot to see. Plus, the stuff was nice.

Fort Thüngen, also known as 'Three Acorns,' is a partially reconstructed fortress originally built in 1732 by the Austrians and later extended by the Prussians. Situated in Luxembourg City's Kirchberg district, it now houses a museum showcasing the city's history from 1443 to 1903. Visitors can explore its underground galleries and mines, which provide access to another fort below, Obergrunewald.
Visited this place on route to Germany from Paris. Very interesting blend of old and new architecture. Definitely worth exploring. Unfortunately my timing was off and I was not able to enter the facility to view the interior. Will have to go back next time. The city itself is also very architecturally significant with lots to see.
Michael S — Google review
Free entry for this fantastic reconstructed fort and museum. The museum does a great job telling the overall military history of Luxembourg. I think it does a much better job than the museum in the city. I took a bus here then walked down. On the way, Google tells you to go through a path which cuts through the woods which isn’t the most accessible.
Ivan C — Google review
My favourite place in Luxembourg. With exhibition indoor and nice arrangements outdoor make Fort Thungen an ideal point of interest for both history and photography enthusiasts.
Murat K — Google review
I popped over to Fort Thungen on a sunny afternoon and it turned out to be one of those easy, low-effort outings that leave you pleasantly surprised. The walk from the tram station is short and simple — about a 10-minute stroll — which makes it a perfect stop if you’re exploring the area or just want a quick break from the bustle. Signs are clear and the route feels safe and pleasant, even with luggage or small kids in tow. The fort itself is a calm little pocket of history tucked into the modern city. It’s not overwhelming or crowded, and the restored walls and walkways make for a gentle, interesting wander. There are spots with lovely views where you can pause and take a few photos or just sit and watch people go by. The atmosphere is relaxed rather than museum-silent, so it’s easy to enjoy whether you’re solo, with a partner, or with family. I’d definitely recommend combining the visit with the nearby Modern Art Museum — it’s just a short walk away and adds a nice contrast to the historical feel of the fort. After inside exhibits, stepping back outside to the park is refreshing. The green spaces around the fort are well kept: paths for a slow walk, benches for reading or snacking, and plenty of room to breathe. If you’re into picnics or a quiet afternoon with a book, this is the kind of place that fits that mood perfectly. Practical tips: wear comfortable shoes for the little incline around the fort, bring a light jacket if it’s breezy up on the walls, and allow an hour or two if you plan to pop into the museum as well. If you’re just after a quick view and some fresh air, 30–45 minutes can be enough. All in all, Fort Thungen is a lovely, low-key stop — easy to reach, pleasant to walk around, and nicely paired with the Modern Art Museum and the surrounding park. It’s one of those spots where you can slow down for a bit and enjoy a peaceful corner of the city. Highly recommend if you want a relaxed outing that’s simple to get to.

A Hidden Gem in Luxembourg City! A fascinating historical site in the heart of Luxembourg City. The fort is beautifully restored and offers great views of the surroundings. The Musée Dräi Eechelen inside is free and very informative. Perfect spot for a peaceful walk and a bit of local history. Highly recommended for both tourists and locals!
Ushodaya N — Google review
No complaints about the fort itself, free admission & plenty of Luxembourg history, there is also a roof terrace you can walk on too. Bit of a short steep hike to get here from the Pfaffenthal lift as we did, unless maybe you get the tram to the Philharmonie / Mudam tram stop & walk from there. The receptionist is authoritarian seemingly just for the sake of it however which sullies the experience. For example, you MUST get a ticket from her even if you aren’t bothering with the museum, if perhaps you only want to access the toilet for instance, because ‘toilets are for guests & guests need tickets’ but when you then ask for the ticket, they don’t actually issue physical tickets because ‘guests don’t need one’ ?! I would question why you need tickets at all if it’s free entry with no ID requirements tbh: they were hardly busy to the point of capacity, on the contrary, when we visited, it was relatively quiet.
Toxteth G — Google review
Free museum, with good views from the roof and surrounding gardens. Need €1 coin for locker, if you bring a bag.

Located in the heart of Luxembourg's capital, Casino Luxembourg is a contemporary art center that features both permanent and temporary exhibits. The museum offers a variety of activities to engage children in contemporary art and encourages them to create their own artistic projects. Additionally, it hosts the Summerakademie, a summer school with art classes in multiple languages. The ground floor houses a bookshop, library specializing in contemporary art, learning spaces, and a cafe-restaurant.
The museum is two floors and there are recently exciting exhibitions. It’s free of charge and has a beautiful Luxemburg overview. Also there’s small museum shops where many art books are on sale. Just add it in your Luxemburg travel list.

A nice building from the outside, where inside there is a cultural/artistic association and there was supposed to be a temporary exhibition and a permanent one. As soon as you enter you see the immensity of the building that remains nice. Exhibitions that are practically nothing: on the ground floor there were only two rooms, one empty and the other with only a container with balls. Upstairs a video that lasted more than 20 minutes and two works without explanation. I would not recommend it.

I honestly didn't think I would like this art gallery as much as I did because I'm not a fan of contemporary art, but the exhibits here were inspiring and thought provoking. Especially moving was the VR experience of the "stronger than memory and weaker than dewdrops" exhibition. I would highly recommend a visit, plus it's free!

Cool small art museum. Free WiFi and bathrooms. I liked the exhibition I also love that I was free. I recommend at least stopping in. They have some virtual reality stuff. They also have a cafe if you're interested in a snack and some drinks. Everyone was helpful and nice. I'd go back in the future. The film festival was cool too.

William Square, also known as Place Guillaume II, is a 13th-century public square in Luxembourg City named after King William II. It hosts outdoor markets and open-air events, making it a vibrant hub of activity in the heart of the city. The square features the famous bronze statue of Grand Duke William II, an intriguing work of art that attracts tourists and travelers. Visitors can admire this phenomenal sculpture by Antonin Mercie and Victor Peter while exploring the historic buildings and bustling market stalls.
Was very quiet when I visited not many people around, but then again it was about 10 o’clock in the morning. He got busier around lunchtime so some great architecture and I managed to get Small photos of the area.

A festive heart of Luxembourg during the Christmas season! I visited William Square during the Christmas market, and the atmosphere was absolutely magical. The square transforms into a cozy winter wonderland with charming stalls offering affordable mulled wine, popcorn, and Luxembourg-themed souvenirs — perfect for gift shopping or just enjoying the holiday vibes. The city organizes everything beautifully: heated areas, pop-up bars, and festive decorations create a warm and welcoming space to celebrate the season. It’s not just a market — it feels like the whole city gathers here to slow down and enjoy.

This public Square has been around since the 13th century and it's named for The Dutch king William II, who was also the Grand Duke of Luxembourg at the time. The Mäertchen is a cherished traditional market held annually in Luxembourg City, closely tied to the religious observance known as the Octave of Our Lady of Luxembourg. This event honors the Virgin Mary, the patron saint of both the Grand Duchy and its capital. ⸻ 📜 Historical Background The origins of the Mäertchen date back to the 17th century during the Octave pilgrimage, which began in 1666 amid a devastating plague. Believers sought solace and healing by venerating a wooden statue of the Virgin Mary, believed to possess miraculous powers. Over time, this pilgrimage evolved into a significant religious tradition, attracting pilgrims from across the country and the Greater Region to Luxembourg City. The Mäertchen emerged as a complementary event, providing sustenance and goods to fasting pilgrims visiting the city for mass. ⸻ 📍 Location: Place Guillaume II (William Square) The market is traditionally set up in Place Guillaume II, also known as William Square, situated in the heart of Luxembourg City’s historic center. This square serves as a vibrant hub for various cultural events and gatherings throughout the year. ⸻ 🛍️ What to Expect Visitors to the Mäertchen can explore a variety of stalls offering: • Traditional Luxembourgish or ethnic foods: Local delicacies and seasonal treats. • Handcrafted goods: Artisan products and souvenirs. • Religious items: Objects associated with the pilgrimage and local traditions. The market provides a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in Luxembourg’s and international cultural heritage and experience the city’s communal spirit. ⸻ 🗓️ Event Duration The Mäertchen typically spans 16 days, commencing on the third Saturday after Easter and concluding on Pentecost Sunday. In 2025, the event is scheduled to run from May 3rd to May 18th. ⸻ 🚶‍♂️ Visiting Tips • Accessibility: Place Guillaume II is easily accessible by public transportation, with nearby bus and tram stops. • Nearby Attractions: While in the area, consider visiting the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Grand Ducal Palace, and the National Museum of History and Art. • Local Cuisine: Take the opportunity to sample Luxembourgish and ethnic dishes. ⸻ Whether you’re a local resident or a visitor, the Mäertchen offers a delightful blend of tradition, culture, and community spirit, making it a must-experience event in Luxembourg City’s annual calendar.

Very well organised museums. Yes, it is not specious but it has all information related to nature and animals. My kids really enjoyed it. It has a slide from the second to the first floor. Very well maintained. A lot of interaction devices as well. The kids are free, adults pay 5 euros. Definitely worth it.

I highly encourage you to visit: the touch screen interactive experience as well as the surprise drawers full of history, heritage and natural knowledge will keep you busy, and the hundreds of animals and insects depicted will keep you captivated. I got educated on various different species, facts and history today! I tried to go through every part of the museum but I’m certain there is a couple of secret drawers I missed and tables of content I overlooked. Incredible amount of knowledge and a beautiful display of animals and insects both extinct and still existing, both in digital form and mostly in physical real size perfectly realistic embodiments. 🦋 The Natural Museum was absolutely perfect, and we were super lucky to get free entry, which is available after 5:30 PM on Tuesdays. 🦓 We arrived there completely by chance and were amazed by the number of animals on display. 🐾 It’s a pity there was no English translation, not even for the animal names. 🦜 But what was awesome was the temporary exhibition on the top floor, where a lovely lady kindly explained to us about birds and their migration

Great museum, lots of exhibits. Very interesting to see the discoveries made in the area. Pétrusse Casemates is a historical site located beneath the Montee de Clausen, featuring the ruins of a medieval fort with high stone walls and a scenic public park. Ah, what a beautiful experience. The place is full of history. Prepare yourself to dig into the undergrounds of the city and to get to know the old city fortifications. There are a lot of steps downward but the place is very well conserved and the guide is awesome. It's worth the visit.

Interesting and we actually enjoyed the visit, but very very overpriced. 18 euros per person and the tour takes about 20 minutes. I'm not sure I would recommend it...
Orsi S — Google review
Very interesting tunnels beneath the city. A lot of history here, however I felt overpriced for the 20-30mins of visit it takes.
Charles D — Google review
This is an amazing part of the city and I'm very happy to have experienced it. For me a more interesting thing then the Bock casemates. As the other "negative" reviews are saying too: the entrance is pricey. If you keep in mind that all public transport is free in Luxembourg, it could be a nice day activity... But to be honest, half the price would he more reasonable, even for expensive Luxembourg. Still happy that I've went, but wouldn't invite (and pay again for myself) my friends to show them this part again, and that is a pity.
MUSEUM H — Google review
It's interesting but I think a bit pricey for what it really is. It takes 20-30 mins to slowly walk along the tunnels, there are a few info boards and small displays on the way, plus a quite interesting film (wait for your language). You walk down many steps and the exit is by the stream in the valley so you have to climb back ~164 stairs to the entrance.
Pawel M — Google review
The ticketing counter (in a container) is right here beside the monument where one can get tickets to walk thru Pétrusse Casemates. I decided to check it out. €18 per adult, the entire walk thru this refurbished ruins of a medieval fort is estimated to take 20 - 30 mins. I was out in about 15 mins, mainly because it started getting a bit frightening, especially with the dim lighting and sound effects in certain areas, and being in there all alone. If there was someone else with me, even if it was another tourist / stranger, I would have probably stayed longer. It's mostly a down-hill walk through it but quite some steps, and at certain sections, due to the dripping water thru the stones, it can get slippery. In some sections of the fort, they've installed background sounds, such as the bombing planes during WW1, where part of this fort was used as a shelter too. The killer came at the end, as the exit is at the bottom of the valley and I had to climb some flights of stairs, bringing me under the Adolphe Bridge and then upslope till I'm back up on the road level again

We spent an afternoon there to visit both museum. And there is also a rooftop garden to see the view from a higher level. We were lucky that the weather was nice when we visited.

Museum located just a few minutes from the center of Luxembourg, in a green area with panoramic views of the city, and housed in a fort built by the Austrians. It tells the story of this incredible country. There is no entrance fee. I liked it and recommend it.

The Museum is free entry. Its all about the history of Luxembourg. The stuff is very friendly and so helpful. There is an elevator to go in other flours. There is a toilet iside as well as a locker to leave your bags while you tour inside the museum. Eating inside is forbidden.

A wonderful, free museum with lots of historic items regarding the fort and the history of Luxembourg. Lots of Roman items, as well as things from the fort itself. It is small enough to get done in an hour or two at most. It is also located in a park where you can get a great view of the city.

Free museum with alot of things to see. Nicely desingned and modern. Definitely recommended if you are in the city!

A must see if you are exploring Luxemburg. Part of the old fort is turned into a free museum. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There are free storage lockers downstairs, 1 euro, but you get it back when you are done. The museum was full of history from Luxemburg from throughout the ages. There are tunnels at the lower level, and great views from the roof. A very interesting and exciting place to visit on your trip here!

Although the exhibition is not too big, it's a really nice game to visit. Highlight for me was not just the building itself, but the area surrounding it. By discovering info plates here and there I had the impression of finding secrets, f.ex. just for walking through a dark tunnel or going down a historical path along the hill. I felt very rewarded, not just by interesting info or "reliving" some paths, but also by the view. Highly recommended!

Visitors can enjoy activities like skateboarding, rollerblading, BMX, and scootering in this picturesque setting.
This place is amazing. Walking here you really feel like you are out in nature but if you look up you can see you are still in the middle of the city One of the most impressive parks i have seen in europe, incredible use of the terrain. There are ways into the valley all over, so you can do a quick visit or walk all the way through

I stopped by here with a girlfriend on our roadtrip. We needed a little greenery and wandered downhill into this magical place. You really have the feeling that you are escaping from the city, since the climb downhill into this ravine takes some time. The view upwards towards Pont Adolphe is just incredible.
Lily V — Google review
After the first phase of the renaturalisation of the Péitruss, I can confidently say this is the best area Luxembourg City has to offer. It’s a linear park following the Péitruss river in a valley between plateaus. There are parks, fields, outdoor gyms, playgrounds, and cafés. It really has brought something more to the city and in the best possible way, all while embracing nature and strengthening the city’s flood management, really impressive.

The Luxembourg American Cemetery is a poignant memorial dedicated to the brave American soldiers who sacrificed their lives during World War II, particularly in the Battle of the Bulge. Spanning an impressive 50.5 acres, this serene site is home to over 5,000 graves, including that of General George S. Patton Jr. Visitors can stroll through beautifully manicured grounds adorned with white cross gravestones and reflective spaces like a chapel and a tranquil pool.
Our tour of Germany and France stopped at the Luxembourg American Cemetery and it is a lovely and touching monument to the fallen in WW2. The cemetery is meticulously maintained and pristine. You enter through a blue enamelled and gold gate and the first thing that you see are the three huge stone, monolithic monuments. One is a shrine to all of the lost American soldiers that you can enter. The other monuments are two stone walls with the names of the five thousand and seventy four fallen soldiers laid to rest here. The huge, green flat field, surrounded by tall green trees and rose bushes, shield the row after row, of neatly arranged white crosses. General Patton’s grave has a special place of honour, but he is there with his soldiers. It is a very touching tribute. Our visit was an especially moving, because of our friend Frank, from South Carolina, who we met on our tour. He had a service here at his cousin’s grave. Every time that he comes to Europe, he pays his respects to his lost cousin. It was very touching to see that personal connection. There is also a chapel and a visitor centre. A lovely and fitting tribute to the fallen.

If you are traveling this way, or even go out of your way to see this. It the least we can do for the 5073 people who died to secure our freedoms! It is a very pretty site with a natural emotional aura. You can see a lot of the history of the battle (of the bulge) and you see Gen George S Patten Jr grave at the head of the troops.
Don D — Google review
Beautiful tribute for the soldiers. The cemetery is really well maintained and It's free to enter. The cemetery is a little far from the bus stop It takes 20 minutes of walk. Overall it is very recommended to visit the cemetary.
Marsha G — Google review
This is my second visit to an American military cemetery overseas. While smaller than the Normandy American Cemetery in France, it remains a deeply moving and solemn site. We came here to pay our respects not only to all the servicemen buried here but also to one of the nation’s greatest military leaders, General George S. Patton. His final resting place serves as a powerful tribute to his leadership and the sacrifices of those who served under him. In addition to General Patton, this cemetery is also the resting place of several paratroopers from the famed 101st Airborne Division, whose heroic actions were depicted in the series Band of Brothers. These soldiers fought bravely during the Battle of the Bulge, one of World War II’s most intense and pivotal battles. Visiting this cemetery is a solemn reminder of their sacrifice and the price of freedom.
Braulio A — Google review
History of Battle of the Bulge is on display at the visitor center. Cemetery is very well taken care of with beautiful landscaping. Blooming cherry trees in the parking lot were added bonus of the visit.

As a former US Soldier, this was a must stop. The grounds are kept up beautifully. Free parking with plenty of space. It started snowing as we arrived so we made our way into the visitor center before heading to the memorial. Staff are friendly and well informed. I highly recommend this stop as a reminder of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation.

As I walked the cemetery I started to call the names of the soldiers out loud. Everyone likes to hear their names being called. It is personal, familiarity, and warmth. stand here as witness. I carry no sword. I come with light. Not one of you is forgotten. Not while I stand here. -Frank Baran.

Alzette is a charming river that runs through the old town of Luxembourg, offering magical views with its bridges and old architecture. A leisurely stroll along its banks allows visitors to appreciate the beauty of the area, including a captivating mermaid sculpture that may momentarily deceive you into thinking it's a real woman. The old town itself is worth exploring for at least half a day, with plenty of restaurants to choose from in the central area.
Really nice magical place in the old town of Luxembourg. If you are visiting the town ensure you have 1/2 a day to explore. The Tramway Museum in Luxembourg City offers a captivating journey through the local transportation history. It is one of the best free museums in Luxembourg, providing an opportunity to explore the evolution of transportation. The museum features restored trams, vintage photographs, detailed models, and exhibits showcasing the impact of tramways on urban development. Visitors can admire various ground transportation tools and even experience sitting in old trams while learning about different eras of engineering industry development.
It's perfect, everyone is welcoming and the museum is super interesting and fun. Perfect thing to visit right before taking the bus to another city/country
Thomas L — Google review
A great place to visit if you find this sort of thing fascinating, which I do! There's a lot of information, in French and Luxembourgish but not English (but that's fair enough, it's in Luxembourg!). Scale models are exquisite and there are life size trams and buses you can view (but sadly not go into as there had been some issues previously with people not taking care). Really interesting place but had very limited opening hours. Very easy to get to by bus
Ian P — Google review
Free museum on trams in Luxembourg. No tickets needed. Great opportunity to see former wagons as well as mechanisms. Kids loved it. Adults can find informative panels as well. Accessible by tram. Free parking. Toilets on site. Best is the very resourceful lady working at the entrance.
Allanah — Google review
Interesting exposition about the history of the tram in Luxemburg, with nice staff and best of all free entry. Unfortunately the area with the preserved vehicles is way too crammed, which makes it difficult to take a look at them and take good photos. Also it is only possible to enter some old trams, but none of the stored buses. The exposition itself is a large collection of old items, pictures, documents and models, displayed in a chronological order, however with almost no explanations. This (understandably) doesn't seem to attract too much visitors. If the whole concept of this museum was improved I think it could become a real attraction, but it still seems to be stuck in the past times when Luxembourg didn't really care about its public transportation. In this state the museum is only recommended for transportation enthusiasts who want to learn about the history of Luxembourg's trams.

Interesting full history of Luxembourg trams and buses actually. - free to enter - lots of parking next to it - can enter some real trams but unfortunately not the buses - very nice models of trams and buses - good self guided tour layout based on the years - nothing else around/walking distance so this one is a must with a car
Hugh J — Google review
Nice museum about the history of trams and buses in Luxembourg. It’s free, not too big, has plenty of old photographs, pieces of machinery, models of the different vehicles and more. The most exciting part is the vehicles that you can enter, sit, and experience what it was like. There’s a parking if you come by car but nothing much around.
Gemma V — Google review
That's one of the most favorite museums of our 4 y.o. son, there were times when we visited it 2-3 times a month 😍 Unfortunately, at the moment the tramways are closed and you can't climb inside (the sign says that it's due to impolite use without any delicacy for the exposition), but I hope they will be opened again one day, since they contribute a lot to museum interactivity ❤️
Olga S — Google review
Definitely recommend visiting the Tram Museum. The museum has a collection of photographs, as well as a huge number of exhibits relating to different years of the development of the engineering industry. Various types of tram driver uniforms, all kinds of automatic machines, models of transport, and accessories are presented in the museum. But the most exciting part is the old trams, where you can sit, touch everything and even ring the bell to stop. It is a rarity when a museum allows you to see everything so closely. Special thanks to the lady museum curator for tips and information.

A little branch of the famous lafayette. I did like the easy accessibility and the fact that everything is so visible and pretty spacious considering the smaller size compared to paris, but the Christmas decorations were not as nice. Still the place is pretty great and convenient.

I will never return to this store. An extremely rude saleswomen came into my dressing room while I was still inside. She did not say a word to me and just hung up clothes on the hook inside for another customer. Even the other customer was visibly embarrassed that she did that to me. Extremely unprofessional. Unacceptable at a “luxury” department store. This saleswoman was working at the Sandro section today (Sunday) at around 5pm. I’m visiting from NYC and this incident has ruined my shopping experience in Luxembourg. Attaching a photo of my shopping bag from the store as proof that I was there and to show that this is not a fake review.
