Nature & Parks
Vesuvio National Park offers a network of trails that allow visitors to explore the stunning scenery, diverse flora, and fauna around the slopes of an active volcano. A road provides access for drivers up to 1,000 meters, where a shuttle bus takes you to the ticket office. From there, a hike of approximately 200 meters leads to the peak of the volcano.
Tour bus dropped us at the highest point available, then it is something like 20+ mins walk up the gravel track to get to the first point when you can see into the crater, there are a number of vantage points for this. There are refreshments and souvenirs available at the entrance and at the top. We spotted one small vent emitting some heat haze and a bit of steam, but otherwise no sign of activity. I liked the views into the crater and if you turn around there are fantastic views of the bay of Naples around to Sorento.

If you are in the Bay of Naples area the National Park of Vesuvius is a must visit. Tickets are required to walk to the top from the drop off point, pre-booking is recommended. It takes approx 45 - 60 mins to reach the top on a path of medium incline. There are view points on the way to catch that breath and admire the surrounding area. As you reach the summit you get to see into the crater and witness the sulphur and gasses escaping.....she is very much active. There are a number of tourist market stalls on the way selling T-Shirts and trinkets. At the summit there is a small cafe selling refreshments and space to sit and enjoy the views. The decent takes approx. 25 - 30 mins.

The hike up is fairly easy, unless you're really unfit. The views from the top are just spectacular, but only if you have luck of having a clear day like I did. The next day it rained and I'm sure the experience must have been much different. The online tickets were always sold out for almost a month so I had to resort buying it through Vesuvio Express, of course, much more expensive than the official 11€, but for 30€ the bus up and down and the entrance ticket, it's not that bad I suppose.
Sidónio S — Google review
Another truly amazing site to visit. The walk up can be a little strained but is so worth it. After entering and starting the climb, there are 3 little shops along the way. There prices are quite reasonable. When you reach the crater you have an ocean view on the opposite side. Absolutely incredible and I'm so glad I visited here.

We had a great time, definitely recommend visiting, but do be advised of these things - the road leading up the mountain is winding, and the drive is long, you pay 7€ for parking (card only) and still have to take a 3€ shuttle up to the trail’s starting point. Once you get to the starting point, you have to buy a ticket by scanning a QR code and waiting “in line” virtually, as they only open 10 tickets for sale every 10 minutes. Even though it is more expensive, I would recommend buying a ticket in advance, as their website is not user friendly at all, and the whole experience can be overwhelming. The trail is steep, and about a 30 minute walk. Definitely manageable for people of all fitness levels. I don’t regret visiting one bit, but I could have saved myself a lot of time had I known these things before.

Mount Vesuvius, located near the Bay of Naples, is one of the world’s most famous volcanoes, best known for its catastrophic eruption in AD 79 that buried the Roman cities of Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Stabiae under ash and pumice. 4,000 ish feet above sea level, it is the only active volcano on mainland Europe and has erupted many times since antiquity, with the most recent major eruption occurring in 1944. To visit, best get a train from Naples to either Herculaneum or Pompeii and pick up a bus from there. The Herculaneum bus was just outside the train station (scavi) and i didn't buy in advance, it was €15 return. The bus ride up is not for the faint hearted with drivers seemingly auditioning for F1 but its better than walking. The bus gives you 2hr, plenty of time to get up and back and enjoy a drink and some pics from the top of the stunning view of Naples and the bay and islands.

You get to the first level where you leave your car and get mini bus to the second level to gey tickets if you already didn't get online. Second level is full of buses and people trying to buy last minute tickets online and it's awful as you have to connect first to their WiFi and then scan code to get to website and try to get tickets as they refresh them every 5-10 minutes. If you're going 3 or more people order in advance online as we didn't manage to get 4 at one time and one person had to wait as slots are every 15 mins and tickets are available 15 minutes from buy only to enter. Staff are nice and helpful but could have a tickets sell instead of online buy.

We took the public bus from Pompeii scavi train station. It's 2.80 Euro one way and it was fairly convenient on a late September workday but I imagine it can be very crowded and stressful in July or August. We did not book tickets for the Vesuvius National Park in advance and had them go through the somewhat hassle of buying it online at the Park entrance. It worked out fine (3pm Monday entrance) but I would not recommend this during the busiest season, better to buy this in advance. The park itself is nice and the nature quite lush, the walk is easy and the views are also pretty good. In general, I like the Mount Etna on Sicily better (also reachable by public bus from Catania). The scene and views of Etna are more dramatic and it's an actual active volcano but Etna is also way more expensive. Overall, a nice half day excursion.

Mount Vesuvius, an active volcano towering above the bay of Naples in Campania, is famous for its devastating eruption in 79 CE that buried the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum in ash. These archaeological sites provide a vivid picture of society and daily life at that time.
I highly recommend visiting Mount Vesuvius! It's an incredible place with lush vegetation that adds charm to the area. The trail to the summit is well-maintained, but the path is quite animal-like and ascends uphill, taking about 40 minutes from the bus stop, while descending takes around 25-30 minutes. Up top, you can feel a distinct smell of chlorine. The trail is mostly dirt and quite steep, so be prepared for a bit of a hike. Along the way, there are plenty of spots to stop for a snack and a rest. There are also souvenirs available, making the trip even more enjoyable. The views from the top are breathtaking! This is a must-visit for nature and history enthusiasts. I will definitely come back again!

Wow... climbing an active volcano... what an experience... spectacular views from the top, even a snack shop! We booked parking and drove to halfway up. Then got the shuttle bus, 3e each return (be prepared, they only take cash). Parking is interesting, but worked out well. From the entrance, it took us about 45mins to walk the rest of the way, but that was with two Kids in tow... it is steep, but worth it. Again, there are drink stops along the way, but mobile signal is hit and miss, so best to have cash. The only downside was the return shuttle bus... there is no official stop, so its a free for all trying to get back on one. Something off the bucket list.

A nice experience, especially for nature lovers, history enthusiasts, and hikers. From the bus drop-off point to the summit, it's about a half-hour easy walk, the ascent is not too difficult. The view into the crater itself is not that impressive, but the bonus you get from the climb is the panoramic views of the Bay of Naples.

This was the second volcano I have climbed, the first being Etna. What can I say? First of all, I feel incredibly lucky that I managed to get the last three tickets for the day, sold right at the last minute! I was over the moon with happiness, as it has been a long-time dream of mine to come here, and I travelled all the way from Moldova to fulfill it. I was absolutely charmed by its beauty and imposing energy. This place charged me up for the next half a year! I am happy and deeply grateful for this wonderful day spent here. Nature lovers and explorers will certainly enjoy this experience. A few tips: I recommend buying tickets in advance—at least one or two days ahead. If you want to secure a specific day or time slot, book three to four days, or even a week, in advance. Today, October 19th, the temperature was quite warm. I was wearing jeans and a t-shirt and had a vest with me, which I took off during the climb. The trail from the entrance point to the crater is not long and is not complicated; even children can manage it. Vesuvius is a true gem of Italy and will forever remain in my heart.
Anastasia G — Google review
You have to park and pay the shuttle fee to get to the trail head, otherwise you walk the road itself to get to the hike. Very lose dirt/rocks on the path. Path is steep but worth the views! Wait to shop until you get to the summit, great hand made souvenirs and shirts/hoodies. Snacks and drinks available at 2 locations, trail head and summit.
Scott B — Google review
If driving up take care roads are poor and bus drivers are brutal . Honking horn beware and wait. Parking at top.Tourist outlets and refreshments available . One tourist was complaining as no Lava was visible. Really!!!! Must have thought it was Dante’s Peak . As the main attraction in Naples I would not miss it it’s unique and pretty awe inspiring.
William H — Google review
Booked online the coach from Pompeii railway station which takes about 45 mins to wind it's way up to the parking area at ~1,000m from where the walking starts. Toilets are available here though they are of the 'builders' variety and mostly are full by the end of the day. The walk is up a fairly steep gravel and ash pathway but it's plenty wide enough to stop and rest when needed. Up on the crater rim are several shops/bars selling souvenirs, beers, wine and more. The views would probably have been fantastic had we not been in thick cloud for all of our walking.

It's Mt. Vesuvius. A historical mountain. For all the negative reviews: it's a mountain so, yes, it does have dirt, do your research ahead of time so you don't get stuck waiting at the top for tickets, and just enjoy yourself. The price goes to perserving the natural area.

Nestled in the charming square that shares its name, the Basilica di Santa Maria a Pugliano stands as a testament to Herculaneum's rich history. This ancient church is not only the oldest in the city but also holds significant importance in the Vesuvius area. Inside, visitors can admire two early Christian marble sarcophagi dating back to the 2nd and 4th centuries AD, hinting at life on this site long before modern times.

Villa La Favorita, also known as Villa Favorita, was designed by Ferdinando Fuga and earned its name because it was a favorite of Queen Maria Carolina of Augsburg, reminiscent of Vienna's Schonbrunn palace where she spent her childhood. The villa has historical significance as it witnessed one of the last battles between Republican troops and Bourbon supporters during the Parthenopaean Republic in 1799.

Beautiful little park. Not an awful lot to do here but there are some nice buildings you sadly can’t enter. Definately ok if you want to relax or go to the beach (which is right behind a little passage at the back)
Nj L — Google review
1969 de Villa Favorita The view from our 5th floor room was fantastic. And San Sabastian is an amazing and beautiful destination. But don’t stay here. Unfortunately, but for the view, the hotel does not have the depth of staff required to make this hotel excellent or even good. I will provide a few examples below. The rooms are typical for Europe and very small. They tried to upgrade the tech and add auto blinds next to the bed, but one of our room controls did not work so you had to get up to adjust the shades by the window anyway. So at that point, a typical curtain would be better. The faucets in the shower were an attempt at modern but were challenging and complicated to work. The toilet is Japanese tech and nice. It had a bidet. A couple of examples of the staffing issue. First, we had an early morning flight and went to the lobby at 6:45 am. We had made arrangements for an early driver and for the hotel to package us a breakfast and coffee. The breakfast idea was the hotels when I had them make arrangements for the driver. When we came down to the lobby exactly at 6:45 am, no one was there. The car came and I went out to get our luggage in and the Electonic door closed behind me. The problem is that the door locked behind me and I could not get back in. Terrible. My wife came and moved in front of the motion detector to get the door to open. I made sure she did not get locket out too, or she would have. (Double doors) The lobby person came with coffee and apologized for not being there and said she was making the coffee. She also said that the breakfast was not ready yet. She left. We waited ten minutes. We rang the bell. She never came back so we left for the airport. It was supposed to be a croissant and yogurt. It was not a cooked order or anything complicated. So that sucks. They should not have offered breakfast. Once they did, it should have been ready. They knew we had a flight and had booked the car for us. The second item has to do with integrity of the hotel. We had our laundry done by the hotel. We expected it to be expensive. We had them wash a handful of underwear and socks, a few workout clothes but no nice clothes. The room did not have a price list by the laundry. We told the person at the desk that there was no pricing list when my wife dropped off the laundry. You can and should expect it to be expensive in a hotel for laundry but this was outrageous. They must have charged for each sock. The bill was 132 euro (about 150 dollars) for one load. I could have bought new what we washed for less than that amount. I complained and the first person did nothing but say the price list is there and I carefully explained that it was not there. Later, the hotel adjusted the bill to $114 dollars when I complained to a different person, who was very nice but said she couldn’t adjust it more. I don’t usually write negative reviews, but feel we were cheated. I don’t like that feeling!!!! And it’s bad business. It was the hotel’s error, and I thought it would be 50 or 60 bucks, the cost is not a thing to me - and I feel blessed about that- but the cheating is a thing. It first it seemed by design, but I think it’s in line with the other service and staffing issues. Another example of a system and staffing failure: We used the hotel robes on the first day. They took those to wash and did but put them back. So we had to ask for them again. Overall, I cannot recommend the hotel. But it does have an amazing view if you can get the Electonic blinds to raise. So this Favorite hotel is not my favorite.

Ferdinando Fuga built the building starting in 1762 on a pre-existing casino belonging to the family of Duke Beretta of Simari. Shortly after, the villa and park were purchased by Stefano Reggio and Gravina, Prince of Jaci and Campofiorito (1700-1790). In 1768, the prince organized a lavish reception in honor of the newlyweds, Royal Princes Ferdinand and Maria Carolina of Austria. The reception was also attended by Grand Duke Leopold of Tuscany and his wife Maria Luisa of Bourbon, who would later become Emperors of Austria. Upon the death of the Prince of Aci in 1792, the villa became the sovereign's estate, according to the prince's will. Ferdinand IV of Bourbon moved the Naval Officers' Academy there. 7€ now for a nice looking building from outside, and a small garden. Inside a lot of empty rooms, some other rooms used as offices ( I didn't even know if I was allowed in there) and no instructions and directions at all . Considering that the ruins of Herculaneum ar just minutes away, and they are amazing , this place for almost half the price is a total RIP OFF Update: Considering the reply from the villa, I want to make it clear , that once I paid the ticket, I wasn't offered an audioguide, and I wasn't told that it's the ONLY WAY I can get details about the place. A very important piece of information DON'T YOU THINK? Probably I should have had to pay extra in order to get the audioguide . Also I want to mention that on the ground floor there was a public event with audio systems, microphones, chairs, and a row of chairs that was blocking the access to the main stair case, since my adventure through offices trying to get to the upper floor. Overall a very bad experience, with NO CONSIDERATION for the tourists once you paid the ticket.

Ottimi panini buonissime patate e grande simpatia di tutto lo staff che ti allieta durante l'attesa con canzoni e simpatici aneddoti della tradizione napoletana. Super consigliato.

(Translated by Google) Historic sandwich truck from Ercolano and personally I would even give it 10 stars!! I have always heard of "Gigino is always a friend" and I finally managed to taste his sandwich and I really have to say that it is something spectacular, to try and enjoy. An experience of flavors!! It is the classic van used for "take away" or on-site consumption and there are usually also small plastic tables on which to lean to eat the sandwich. The staff is very kind and very nice. Lastly, the prices are great! If you are in the area I absolutely recommend it! You have to try Gigino's sandwich at least once in your life 😋🍔 (Original) Camioncino dei panini storico di Ercolano e personalmente gli darei anche 10 stelle!!

(Translated by Google) Let's start by saying that Gigino is one of the pioneers of street food. In every sandwich of the "latest generation" paninari there is a bit of Gigino in every sandwich. His is an experience, from when you arrive to when you pay and leave with his sweets and liqueurs. His French fry is different, different and it's a whole different thing. The sandwich balanced in every ingredient. Gigino is a guarantee!!! Value for money...excellent. Gigi you are number one!! I suggest going very early, even before he arrives. You have to take a number for chips and a number for sandwiches.

(Translated by Google) Excellent sandwich, perhaps one of the best compared to many food trucks but I give one star, in fact I would give a minus 10 for the organisation, in the Middle Ages they were more organised. Go there and get the number Go to the cashier and ask for the deposit (mama me 😞) And if you don't have cash, no problem, instant bank transfer 😂😂😂he doesn't have a pos 😂😂 After 2/3 hours your turn comes You have to say how you want the sandwiches on one side Only carme Etc. for the side dishes you have to go to the other side and tell them 😂😂😂 in the end you eat you get the account closed and see if you have to receive the change and give more money well (ruined) In my opinion, doing like everyone else in the world makes things more serious and quicker You order sandwiches as you want them, pay and wait for your number bha Never again (Original) Ottimo panino forse uno dei più buoni rispetto a tanti camioncini ma do una stella anzi ne darei meno 10 per l'organizzazione nel medioevo erano più organizzati.

Pizza restaurant
Taratatà is a neighborhood pizzeria known for its delicious and authentic Italian pizza cooked in wood-fired ovens. The place offers tasty and honest food at affordable prices, making it a great choice for those seeking a casual dining experience. While the service may not be the quickest or most fluent in English, the friendly staff and generous portions of pizza make up for it. The ambiance may not be upscale, but the well-kept interior and accommodating atmosphere create a pleasant dining environment.
Amazing Pizza, tasted so authentic Italian cooked in wood fired ovens. We got there early and they accommodated our family nicely indoors. It looks a bit run down from outside, but is well kept and tidy inside. Pizza food was amazing, we would go back! Staff didn’t speak much English at all but we got by just fine.

Average pizza and average welcome/service by the staff.

A terrific neighbourhood pizzeria. If you like good, honesty, tasty food at affordable prices this is the place for you. The bruschetta was delicious and the pizza was generous and quick. If you are expecting a gourmet experience or silver service, jog on. The owner is a fantastic and strong character. More power to his elbow!

Every single thing we ordered ( mixed entrees, capricciosa pizza with PROSCUITTO and crocca pizza with SALAMI) all had CANADIAN HAM no actual ingredients listed were provided Absolutely no sauce or spices. Our roommates at our AIR BNB said the exact same. Its sad to see owners not care about the quality of the food received or any negative feedback , taking a look at previous reviews the responses speak for themselves truly. we are Italian and actually chefs in north america in Italian restaurants my whole career. And this restaurant was truly TARATA-TERRIBLE. Would give 0 stars if possible..

Restaurant
Tubba Catubba is a seafood restaurant with a summer terrace in Ercolano, near Naples. The food is simple and fresh, with emphasis on the taste of the ingredients. The service is friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere relaxed and comfortable.
Great location. The service was awesome and quick. We were the only people there at the time (off season). Our waiter took time to explain every dish we questioned and then the cook came out to offer more help. The vegetarian options are limited but satisfying. The bruschetta was so fresh and tasty. My downside is- I asked for coffee with milk and I was told only coffee.
Kentrell C — Google review
Poor food, poor atmosphere, local wine quite nice. A number of items on the menu were not available. Chick pea soup for starter was the best part of the meal- tasted a bit like cassoulet. Some sort of almond tart for desert was dry and almost inedible. If possible, eat elsewhere.

We went for a late lunch, an hour before closing, they were so helpful and accommodating, the food was amazing and such reasonable prices! My husband and I both said we would definitely go back!
Denise T — Google review
Food quality was questionable, quantity was ludicrous. Don't ask for the hamburger, unless you like a frozen piece of tasteless meat with fries full of oil. Dont even get me started on the calamares and shrimp as the only side dish was the hair of the cook and the shrimps scales.
Daniel G — Google review
An offense the size of the plates, my mates and I ordered ravioli and each plate had 5 ravioli, no more no less. They weren't even that good to pay 12 euro for them. They take advantage of tourists. Not recomendable to come and eat here. The waiter lied to us saying that the portions were big enough. Horrible place.

Amazing food and service, the best restaurant we found in the 10 days we were here. Nice local produce and food cooked perfectly with very reasonable prices. We ended up going 3 times but wished it was more. Will definitely go back if we ever come back to the area.

Amazing restaurant with authentic Italian food. It's really tasty food and the service was really good. I would recommend as a stop on the way to mount Vesuvio.

From the street not very noticeable, but when we tried the kitchen were pleasantly surprised. The seafood is fresh and delicious. Polite and pleasant waiter, ready to advise you. I really liked the spaghetti with seafood and tiramisu dessert I recommend it to all lovers of quality Italian home cooking And not really expensive

I have been in Italy for the past month and this has been the best meal by far. We started with zuppa of mussels with scampi and other fish, 2 fresh pasta dishes with sausage and zucchini, fried fish of the day that included calamari and shrimp and a salad. We had a bottle of white wine and water. The price very incredibly reasonable and the service was great, Leonardo was a sweetheart.
Pat S — Google review
Doesn't look much from the outside but good place to stop for lunch before Vesuvius carpark, last sit down place. Inside there is a covered veranda and plenty of tables. A slice of pizza turned out to be huge. Family run I think, quick service and very good prices. Toilets very clean. Some great old photos on the wall in the main dining room from 1900s.

Just an amazing place with delicious food! Owners are incredibly nice and dolce, the seafood was so fresh! There were no people, however I would love to see this place full! Highly, highly recommended!
Anastasia S — Google review
Super friendly and welcoming staff, great food and very reasonable prices. It’s quiet (I have no idea why), so it’s peaceful and easy to get a table.
Claire M — Google review
I definitely would recommend this place, very authentic Italian taste, good value for money and it is a family run restaurant. If going or coming back from the Vesúvio, just pop in for a nice meal.
Cam G — Google review
The staff is supremely nice, dishes are well made and taste good, served local wine stands to the spectacular view provided by this restaurant. Don't get fooled by the little outdated look of this place.
