Villa Campolieto, a restored 1775 villa, is part of the Ville Vesuviane built during Bourbon rule. Located on the Golden Mile near Herculaneum, it offers grand frescoes, gardens, and a terrace with stunning views of the Gulf of Naples. While its rooms may be empty and it feels somewhat neglected, the villa boasts sumptuous paintings, a grand staircase, and remnants of its formal gardens.
Lovely building, so much restoration done, well worth the 5 euro entry

Beautiful villa 10 minutes down the road from Herculaneum! Excellent online guide available. Well worth a visit if you have some extra time! The ticket for the visit can be buy as a pack from Herculaneum or from the entrance of the vila

Villa Campolieto, located in Ercolano along the scenic Golden Mile, is a stunning example of 18th-century Italian baroque architecture. This elegant villa, designed by architect Luigi Vanvitelli, boasts grand halls, intricate frescoes, and beautifully landscaped gardens. Overlooking the Bay of Naples, the villa offers breathtaking views that complement its historical charm. Its meticulous restoration makes it a perfect venue for cultural events or a peaceful visit to admire the opulence of the Neapolitan aristocracy. Villa Campolieto is a hidden gem for history and art lovers.

Beautiful quiet villa 10 minutes down the road from Herculaneum! Excellent online guide detailing the architecture and history of the building and local area. Well worth a visit if you have some extra time! And as of June 2025 they have a temporary exhibition on daily life in Herculaneum which has some really cool artifacts like carbonized bread and other food staples, furniture, and cookware discovered from the Herculaneum site!

Fabulous villa. Setting is beautiful overlooking the bay and the free audio guide is very informative. Spent a good hour and a half here and was a reasonable price. Well worth the trip.
Christina W — Google review
7€ now for a nice looking building from outside, and a small garden. Inside a lot of empty rooms, some other rooms used as offices ( I didn't even know if I was allowed in there) and no instructions and directions at all . Considering that the ruins of Herculaneum ar just minutes away, and they are amazing , this place for almost half the price is a total RIP OFF Update: Considering the reply from the villa, I want to make it clear , that once I paid the ticket, I wasn't offered an audioguide, and I wasn't told that it's the ONLY WAY I can get details about the place. A very important piece of information DON'T YOU THINK? Probably I should have had to pay extra in order to get the audioguide . Also I want to mention that on the ground floor there was a public event with audio systems, microphones, chairs, and a row of chairs that was blocking the access to the main stair case, since my adventure through offices trying to get to the upper floor. Overall a very bad experience, with NO CONSIDERATION for the tourists once you paid the ticket.
Memoplus1 — Google review
The entrance feels overpriced for what you can see here, no explanation about the remainings of Erculano. Audio guide was only about the villa and a little dramatic. I wouldn’t recommend the place, better spend the time and money elsewhere

House of the Deer is one of the luxurious villas in Herculaneum, easily accessible by bus or train from Naples and Sorrento. The site has seen continuous care resulting in new archaeological discoveries and recent reopenings of ancient structures like the theatre and House of the Bicentenary. The House of the Deer features beautiful mosaic and marble chipped floors, with hallways surrounding a central garden where marbled statues were discovered.
Herculaneum is understated and beautiful. The staff are wonderful at the Park, 16Euro entry, whish I thought reasonable.

The House of Neptune and Amphitrite is a must-see attraction in Herculaneum. This ancient house is known for its stunning summer triclinium adorned with a mosaic depicting the sea god Neptune and his wife Amphitrite. The triclinium also features a nymphaeum with a beautiful glass paste mosaic and shells. It is believed that the owner of this house was a prosperous wine merchant, as evidenced by the preserved amphorae used for storing wine.
Herculaneum is completely different from Pompeii and absolutely worth a visit. Here the pyroclastic flow protected the roofs of the buildings and made it harder for treasure hunters to loot the place in the 1500s. It is far smaller than Pompeii but also very richly appointed. Herculaneum was a seaside resort for very rich Romans, and it shows in the way, the villas are decorated. We spent an hour and a half here on a guided tour, and could’ve spent three hours here.

(Translated by Google) Herculaneum: A Time Capsule on the Gulf of Naples Where Pompeii is famous, Herculaneum whispers its story—but with more power than you might suspect. Smaller, more intimate, and surprisingly better preserved, this ancient city offers an experience you not only see, but feel. What makes Herculaneum unique is the stunning state of preservation of its houses, mosaics, and wooden structures. The narrower streets and compact layout convey an intense sense of intimacy. As if you're walking through a neighborhood whose residents have just departed. The baths are impressive in their detail—from the marble benches to the decorated walls—and reveal how refined daily life once was. In Herculaneum, you're not guided by the ruins, but by the feeling of having traveled through time yourself. Those seeking less crowds, more detail, and a deeper sensory experience of Roman life will find a hidden gem in Herculaneum. A place where the past becomes tangibly close.

(Translated by Google) One of the best preserved houses in Herculaneum. Buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, it was excavated in 1830, bringing to light the first skeleton of the city, hence its name. The characteristic way of building Roman walls called reticulated work (opus reticulatum) is striking, where the rock blocks, better or worse polished, sit on the cement with the vertex downwards. In one of the patios there is an iron framework, which was original, and was to serve as a fence to prevent thieves.

Guests can enjoy upscale amenities including an outdoor pool, a terrace with scenic views, and complimentary Wi-Fi. The hotel also features a restaurant serving delicious meals and a cafe for quick snacks.
This was an amazing location, we arrived at night and were greeted by friendly staff, who were willing to and get the family settled. The room was great, lots of power points, enough space for a sofa, table couple of beds, bathroom and second bedroom. The breakfast had lots of choice, it was quiet and very clean. If we encountered a problem the staff were happy to help. When we were staying, there was a fantastic dinner night, a range of food was served, live music and a firework display. The pool is well located with a lifeguard and clean. Very nice after a hot day. There is a carpark round back. In the grounds there are lots of 'ruins' I think an owner in the 19th century built them, they are amazing to walk around as well as the fountains and gardens. With the shops nearby, along with Herculaneum and the train station it is a great stay. Finally, an amazing view of mount vesuvius.

Hotel staff were so helpful and always there to help and go out of their way…especially Elena! Amazing daily breakfast! Great pool! Outdated and clean rooms but you get what you pay for and you are there to travel not stay in your room.

Friendly staff, always attentive and helpful. Huge garden which is well kept. As others are saying, great location and a very beautiful building. Pool was a little unclean towards the end of our stay and the air conditioning wasn't great
Rhett W — Google review
The room itself was nice looking. Very spacious rooms, however no A/C. Bathrooms need updating as there were cracks in the shower tub and the shower head had mold and rust. It also had no where to place the shower head. Front desk service was excellent. Very helpful and polite.

I loved this Hotel. Yes some of it needs some attention but it matches the area that it's situated in. Real Italy. Our room was roomy and clean with air conditioning. The bed was huge. The bathroom definitely needed updating, but we had hot and cold water and were able to shower. Staff were great especially if you try to speak the language. Breakfast was enough and lots of choice. There is a great pool, which was really appreciated in the heat we had. The whole Town has a family feel, and the hotel accommodates this by holding special evenings and allowing the locals the reserve the use of the pool. The only down side for us was there was no pool bar. There is a railway station 10 mins away that will take you to Naples, Sorrento and Rome. If you are looking for a holiday where you can actually also have some culture and see how others live this is the place. My partner and I loved it .
Justine B — Google review
Definitely seen better days, photos on booking site were not accurate at all, poor breakfast, bathroom was awful, shower for was not wide enough so water went everywhere, noise from road was horrendous. Good location for restaurants, pool was nice enough just very run down, staff were lovely. Shortened our stay and moved to better hotel. Shame 😔
Alyson J — Google review
This hotel is very close to Herculaneum. The staff are welcoming and the casa has high ceilings and has some beautiful decor.however the the room was Spartan the bed was uncomfortable, the TV did not work and the shower was in the old jacuzzi with no screen. The breakfast was contental with stale bread that was difficult to cut. But the saving feature was it's proximity to Herculaneum.
Peter B — Google review
I love this hotel. It is palacial and has a very unique style. The location is perfect, in great walking distance of restaurants, shops and a train station into the center. Is it the fanciest hotel I’ve been to? No. Does some of it need updating? Yes. But for the price and location, it can’t be beat. The staff here are also wonderful - nothing is too much trouble. I’ve stayed here twice and will be back again in the spring.

Villa d'Elboeuf, the first of the Vesuvian villas, was constructed in 1711 by the Duke of Elboeuf and designed by architect Ferdinando Sanfelice. The building originally consisted of two levels. Although it holds sentimental value for some, as it was a place where cherished memories were made, it is currently undergoing renovation and is not open to visitors. It is expected to be fully operational by 2024.

Villa La Favorita, also known as Villa Favorita, was designed by Ferdinando Fuga and earned its name because it was a favorite of Queen Maria Carolina of Augsburg, reminiscent of Vienna's Schonbrunn palace where she spent her childhood. The villa has historical significance as it witnessed one of the last battles between Republican troops and Bourbon supporters during the Parthenopaean Republic in 1799.
Great!

Beautiful little park. Not an awful lot to do here but there are some nice buildings you sadly can’t enter. Definately ok if you want to relax or go to the beach (which is right behind a little passage at the back)
Nj L — Google review
1969 de Villa Favorita The view from our 5th floor room was fantastic. And San Sabastian is an amazing and beautiful destination. But don’t stay here. Unfortunately, but for the view, the hotel does not have the depth of staff required to make this hotel excellent or even good. I will provide a few examples below. The rooms are typical for Europe and very small. They tried to upgrade the tech and add auto blinds next to the bed, but one of our room controls did not work so you had to get up to adjust the shades by the window anyway. So at that point, a typical curtain would be better. The faucets in the shower were an attempt at modern but were challenging and complicated to work. The toilet is Japanese tech and nice. It had a bidet. A couple of examples of the staffing issue. First, we had an early morning flight and went to the lobby at 6:45 am. We had made arrangements for an early driver and for the hotel to package us a breakfast and coffee. The breakfast idea was the hotels when I had them make arrangements for the driver. When we came down to the lobby exactly at 6:45 am, no one was there. The car came and I went out to get our luggage in and the Electonic door closed behind me. The problem is that the door locked behind me and I could not get back in. Terrible. My wife came and moved in front of the motion detector to get the door to open. I made sure she did not get locket out too, or she would have. (Double doors) The lobby person came with coffee and apologized for not being there and said she was making the coffee. She also said that the breakfast was not ready yet. She left. We waited ten minutes. We rang the bell. She never came back so we left for the airport. It was supposed to be a croissant and yogurt. It was not a cooked order or anything complicated. So that sucks. They should not have offered breakfast. Once they did, it should have been ready. They knew we had a flight and had booked the car for us. The second item has to do with integrity of the hotel. We had our laundry done by the hotel. We expected it to be expensive. We had them wash a handful of underwear and socks, a few workout clothes but no nice clothes. The room did not have a price list by the laundry. We told the person at the desk that there was no pricing list when my wife dropped off the laundry. You can and should expect it to be expensive in a hotel for laundry but this was outrageous. They must have charged for each sock. The bill was 132 euro (about 150 dollars) for one load. I could have bought new what we washed for less than that amount. I complained and the first person did nothing but say the price list is there and I carefully explained that it was not there. Later, the hotel adjusted the bill to $114 dollars when I complained to a different person, who was very nice but said she couldn’t adjust it more. I don’t usually write negative reviews, but feel we were cheated. I don’t like that feeling!!!! And it’s bad business. It was the hotel’s error, and I thought it would be 50 or 60 bucks, the cost is not a thing to me - and I feel blessed about that- but the cheating is a thing. It first it seemed by design, but I think it’s in line with the other service and staffing issues. Another example of a system and staffing failure: We used the hotel robes on the first day. They took those to wash and did but put them back. So we had to ask for them again. Overall, I cannot recommend the hotel. But it does have an amazing view if you can get the Electonic blinds to raise. So this Favorite hotel is not my favorite.

Ferdinando Fuga built the building starting in 1762 on a pre-existing casino belonging to the family of Duke Beretta of Simari. Shortly after, the villa and park were purchased by Stefano Reggio and Gravina, Prince of Jaci and Campofiorito (1700-1790). In 1768, the prince organized a lavish reception in honor of the newlyweds, Royal Princes Ferdinand and Maria Carolina of Austria. The reception was also attended by Grand Duke Leopold of Tuscany and his wife Maria Luisa of Bourbon, who would later become Emperors of Austria. Upon the death of the Prince of Aci in 1792, the villa became the sovereign's estate, according to the prince's will. Ferdinand IV of Bourbon moved the Naval Officers' Academy there. Palazzo Baronale, a historical gem in Torre del Greco, boasts a captivating past that traces back to Queen Giovanna d'Angio. Originally gifted to settle debts of her lover Sergianni Caracciolo, it later changed hands multiple times before becoming public property through the efforts of local citizens. Today, this stunning palace serves as the municipal seat and offers breathtaking views over the port.
(Translated by Google) I was able to visit the Baronial Palace during the Holy Night. We were accompanied by the guide who explained everything in a simple and exhaustive way. After entering, we went upstairs by climbing the large staircase at the entrance. We visited the main rooms of the building, including the mayor's room and the room where the municipal council meets. I don't know if anyone remembers it but, with great affection (and a pinch of nostalgia), I remember when the building was still in a state of abandonment and, in the space in front, the Sunday market was organized with many stalls. I remember it because I went with my grandfather. There was also an epitaph which, after the renovation works, was moved to where the fountain is now. However, certainly, one of the "highlights" of the Palace is the beautiful panorama that can be admired at the end of the corridor. You can see Naples and see the port of Torre. Thanks to the union and all the organizers for this great opportunity.
