Porto Cesareo Beach

4.3

Beach
Porto Cesareo Beach is a stunning crescent-shaped stretch of sand and rock that captures the essence of summer in Puglia. Nestled close to a bustling port, this beach boasts soft, fine sands and breathtaking views of the crystal-clear Ionian Sea. With around 18 km of coastline, visitors can explore nearby small islands like Isola dei Conigli (Rabbit Island) or relax on neighboring beaches such as Spiaggia Torre Lapillo and Spiaggia Solemarebarocco.
Loved it! The water in the Mediterranean is always great and crystal clear. Pretty quiet probably because of the fact we were there off season, but the weather allowed us to enjoy that amazing place!

A true Italian experience. Drive into town and forget your car for the rest of your stay. Walking distance to everything. Beautiful tranquil beaches in a family friendly setting. Can’t wait to bring my granddaughters there.
Mario T — Google review
Beautiful small beach, ideal for families with kids. Nice location in the middle of the city. Water is clear and shallow. The only minus for me is the lack of a shower to rinse off the salty water after swimming.
Veni N — Google review
Nice little village
Loic B — Google review
nice water, pool like. in the city itself, but nice.
Aranza A — Google review
Oh, what a gem this beach is! A filthy, overcrowded mess right by the city and between the port, with litter strewn like confetti: plastic, beer cans, cigarette butts, and food remains litter the shore, no hygiene at all! Also it’s so packed, you’re dodging boats and bodies, truly a trashy people magnet! These troglodytes yell, smoke, and ignore any rules of public decency. This city lives off summer tourists but can’t clean up, renovate and keepin order—lame! Definitely skip this gross, crowded beach unless you love filth!
Al M — Google review
Water is shallow and warm, send is white everything is near. Pleasant experience. The only thing which ruins the whole Porto Cesareo are cars - cars everywhere, the whole place is like one huge parking lot.
Filip L — Google review
One of my favourite places in southern Italy. It wasn’t on my destination list but my guide in Rome told me that’s his favourite place in the whole of Italy. I wasn’t disappointed.

(Translated by Google) They could have done without dedicating a statue to Manuela Arcuri: in my opinion she doesn't even look like her... It's definitely a question of point of view. The panorama nearby is certainly suggestive, close to the marina and full of various types of places where you can taste typical Salento delicacies. (Original) Potevano fare a meno di dedicare una statua a Manuela Arcuri: a parer mio non le assomiglia neanche... Questione di punti di vista sicuramente. (Translated by Google) Walking near the beautiful port of Porto Cesareo we found ourselves in front of the statue of Manuela Arcuri. I don't know why it is there, but when sunset comes the colors that characterize it are fantastic. Her face seems ruined and needs more care. If you pass through the port you will find it in front of you. I would have preferred a statue that represented the women of this splendid land. But...... To be seen without many pretensions....

(Translated by Google) The statue is most famous for its controversy. Installed in 2002 and dedicated to Manuela Arcuri as a symbol of beauty and prosperity, it depicts the then young and emerging actress (also known for numerous nude calendars) in the guise of the goddess of fortune, holding a cornucopia full of fish. What a beautiful display of grace! Well, let's pretend to believe it... I saw the statue a few years later, and it wasn't much, but at least it was new, in good condition, and clean. Although, of course, one might ask, "What the hell does Manuela Arcuri have to do with Porto Cesareo?" Subsequently, one municipal administration removed the statue and another reinstated it. In the meantime, the statue has aged prematurely; the nose and lips have been vandalized, and the stone has darkened in several places. Its placement is quite unfortunate: it stands on the pier in front of the tables of a nearby bar. Strangely, however, the statue always faces land. Which is quite unusual for a statue located on the seafront!

Sasa' Sub Diving Center is a well-equipped facility located at the port of Porto Cesareo, attached to the Tower. Customers have praised Salvatore for his expertise and helpfulness. Visitors also appreciate the friendly assistance from the staff, making their experience enjoyable and hassle-free.
The pouilles are probably not the best place for scuba diving but if like me, you can enjoy breathing underwater in any circumstance then you should definitely peak Sasa’s diving club! He is extremely kind and professional, i’ve been diving for 30 years and I never had any issue whatsoever during that time, but this day, for some reason I felt dizzy and for me that meant that I definitely had to stop the dive!! Now Sasa managed to deal with me and I could eventually end normally the dive… i’m pretty sure that I wouldn’t have let almost any instructors I’ve been diving with keeping me under the water after having that uncanny reaction…

While some find the prices slightly high during aperitivo time, others praise the efficient service and great atmosphere.
Great location to watch sunset at the end of the day. Service was fantastic and attentive. Drinks well crafted especially the Boulevardier. and the price was normal. Went here 3 nights in a row. The gelato especially the Pistachio flavours were the best we've every had.

Beautiful little spot right on the coast, with a boat taxi to the island right opposite. We had a brief early lunch. The food was excellent. Service was standard and because of the time, it wasn’t very busy so atmosphere was typical. They had a lovely range of deserts, but we were too full after the lunch to try them. Parking was an available fairly close by.

I went to Bar Principe three times during the four days I spent in Porto Cesareo. Highly recommended. The ice cream left me speechless (pistachio and fior di latte), as did the pasticciotto with cream and the one with pistachio. The staff is very nice, the bar is clean.

Simply the best place to sit drink eat watch people go by and later the sun go down over the harbour sea. Nice food generous drinks and the best ice cream parlour next door. Could not be better.
Steve C — Google review
I had a very unpleasant experience here last week. After paying for my ice cream at the counter, I placed my phone on the small counter where payments are made. I then went outside to sit down, but within just a few minutes I realized my phone was missing. I immediately went back inside and checked near the ice cream freezer and all around the area where I had been standing. I also approached the owner (the lady in charge where I pay ), but didn’t ask her right away, assuming that if I had forgotten my phone there, she would mention it. The place was quiet, with only a few tables occupied, and there was no one else paying during that time — so it was impossible for her to have forgotten who had left the phone there. After sitting outside again and thinking it through, I was certain I hadn’t misplaced it anywhere else. I went back inside and directly asked the owner if I had left my phone there. She quickly said no. I asked again and insisted, also inquiring whether there were cameras in the shop. As soon as I mentioned the cameras, she spoke briefly to someone in Italian and then pulled my phone out from behind the counter ,without showing any emotion or regret. This experience left me very disappointed and uncomfortable, especially considering it involved the owner herself and how she handled the situation

Ristorante Al Gambero is a charming restaurant that offers delicious seafood dishes with generous portions. The atmosphere is magical, with a breathtaking view of the sea that creates a perfect setting for an unforgettable dining experience. The staff is friendly and attentive, ensuring that every meal is prepared with love and presented perfectly. From fresh tuna carpaccio to mouthwatering seafood risotto, every dish is bursting with flavor.
Ah wow what can I say, the time stops here. The view of a sky touching blue sea is what you exactly need to feel the magic atmosphere in this place all the rest leave for the staff and cook. Delicious fish dishes!!!
Polina V — Google review
The location of Al Gambero is definitely its highlight—right by the sea with a lovely terrace, perfect for enjoying the view. The starters were fresh and tasty, setting high expectations for the rest of the meal. Unfortunately, the main course (strozzapreti alla marinara) was a letdown, as the seafood was frozen—a real surprise given the seaside setting, and this wasn’t mentioned on the menu. Service was just average: when asked about the seafood’s freshness, the staff hesitated before finally admitting it wasn’t fresh. Overall, a mixed experience.
Simone T — Google review

Miruna D — Google review
The food was nothing special. The service was not very fast and you had to call them many times. The atmosphere was a bit too caotic and the tables disposition was not the best (we were near the entrance and also the air conditioning was too cold). For the price that we paid I do not recommend it.

The view on it's own deserves a visit to this restaurant, but the food is amazing as well. They have an extensive regional wine list, well executed dishes plus freshly caught lobster and fish specials that vary according to the pesca del giorno.
Florencia E — Google review
Be very careful if ordering fresh fish and lobster off this menu. 1 ordered a lobster starter, wasn’t told the weight of it and she paid €66 for it. Then another person picked out a seabass for main course, it was weighed but he didn’t realise the full cost of €72 for just the fish (sides not included). Just incredibly expensive and staff’s attitude was just tough luck, that we should have done the calculations ourselves.

Beautiful beach club with the best, super comfortable beds. Place well kept and helpful staff. Absolutely amazing sea. One of my favourite places in punta prosciutto!

Amazing place, from the crystal clear water to the atmosphere and comfort of the sun beds. We’ve been here 2 weekends in a row in the month of August and they always accommodated us. Both times we just showed up to the morning of and they found umbrellas for us. The food is amazing and super fresh and I have to say, compared to other Lidos in the same area, their prices are very reasonable. For the same comfort and quality you can expect to pay double if not more in other places. The owners are very friendly as well. I really don’t get those that have had a bad experience here. My family and I will be back, 100%!

Spiaggia di Punta Prosciutto, located in Salento, Porto Cesareo, is a stunning beach with a small busy strip of white sand and transparent shallow waters. The free beach offers picturesque scenery with high dunes and vibrant colors. It's a popular spot for sunbathers and swimmers, especially families with little kids due to its crystal-clear water and shallow depth at low tide.
Beautiful beach – but beware of Sundays in high season The beach is truly beautiful – clean, with soft sand and crystal-clear water. Just a heads-up if you’re visiting on a Sunday in July: it was really crowded, and we couldn’t get a sunbed or umbrella, as everything was already taken. Definitely worth a visit, but ideally on a weekday or with your own gear.
Milinatali — Google review
A beautiful long sandy beach with green shallow water. Perfect for little ones as it’s shallow for 50 yards or more. There are a few black seaweed spots that you can easily avoid. It’s very long so there is plenty of space to find a spot even when it’s busy. There are free spots and paid spots with an umbrella and chairs. You can also pay 5 Euro to park else there is a bunch of free side street parking within an easy walk to the beach. There are a few beach bars and some sit down restaurants. There are quite a few merchant peddlers selling stuff including water toys. Felt like I was in the Caribbean, so I would definitely check out this beach if in the area.

The sea is beautiful but definitely colder than down in gallipoli Also the beach being over crowded with people is very disappointing Not even a nice crowd

Visited this place last year in July, it was just what we love in a beach - a perfect clear blue water and a white sand. It was quite crowded at a time, but didn’t bother - this clear water beats it all. Will come back definitely.
Daria — Google review
Phenomenal beach. Turquoise and incredibly clear sea, white/golden sand. BUT way overcrowded. People are cramped up like sardines. Ombrelloni, loungers, towels, and chairs everywhere so it’s even difficult to go to the sea AVOID in summer months. Try to go end of may, first part of june and september, should be bearable.

We went there in June. The staff wasn't friendly and kind of grumpy. For two sunbeds (it was max. 5-10% occupied) they wanted 30 € (at 4 o'clock in the afternoon). Classic tourist rip-off and not a typical price in preaseason.

I foolishly arrived on the wrong day, but they were so helpful in changing my reservation (even though it wasn't changeable). The staff were very friendly, and they spoke good English. I felt very welcome! The atmosphere is great, the decor is beautiful and inviting, the beds are comfortable, and the sea is stunning. And all this for a low price compared to lidos in the area. We visited in August 2019. I agree with previous reviews that the owners are very rude and unprofessional and the staff follow suit. They have no idea how to provide customer service and see tourists as an inconvenience. They are not intelligent enough to deal with non-Italians. It probably doesn't help that there is little competition in the area. The food is average for the area but the prices are definitely higher than their few competitors and what you can get in the area. I would recommend avoiding this place if you can, but if you can't, don't expect decent treatment from the owners or staff

Off the beaten path
For day 3, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Torre di San Tommaso (Torre Lapillo). Torre di San Tommaso, also known as Torre Lapillo, gets its name from the medieval watchtower and the unique "lapilli" sand on its beach. This ancient tower was once used to defend against Saracens and now offers visitors the chance to explore its interior and climb to the top for stunning panoramic views. Recent visitors have marveled at the telescope atop the tower, providing breathtaking sights of Saturn and the moon.

I came to visit this tower twice during my vacation. The first time it was closed to only private visits, but to compensate they made a really interesting show in collaboration with the local dance club, I quite enjoyed it. The lesson I learned here is that one should always inform him/herself about the location to visit. It's not too bad that you can't enter, the tower is still quite impressive from the outside too and at night it gets illuminated. During the day you can also chill on the small open pond there and enjoy the sea.

Wonderful sea water, a bit too growded for my taste and a bit to fancy the paid area, but the free area is extremely crowded. Maybe because is friday and during the weekend is better. Nevertheless the nature part is wonderful.
Georgiana N — Google review
Absolute nightmare on weekends. We were at the beach at 9:30 and every umbrella was sold out. We tried at 6 different beach bars and they were all sold out. Apparently you have to reserve in advance but none of the bars mention this in their google profile. After almost 2 hours walking along the beach we found 2 umbrellas at the last line in one of the cafes and barely had space to move around and to walk to the water. Deffinitely not the right beach if you want to relax and breathe.
Virzhinia K — Google review
Honestly don’t bother going in August. Hardly any free sand, all space is either taken up by enormous, overpriced beach clubs or tiny patches of overcrowded sand between them. Such a shame as out of season it’s probably beautiful. We arrived at 9am to beat the crowds and were so disappointed!

Da Mimì fish restaurant is a charming, family-owned establishment located on the beach in Torre Lapillo. The restaurant offers an extensive menu featuring mussels, prawns, squid, grilled fish, and seafood pasta. The portions are generous and freshly prepared. Despite the lack of reservations for the 9 pm slot leading to long queues, locals frequent this hidden gem due to its delicious and fresh food. The unique ordering process involves writing down selections which are then served on paper or plastic plates.

Seafood lovers should really check this place out! The seafood is fresh and anything fried there is done perfectly with the right amount of batter and seasonings. No bitter after taste meaning the oil they use to fry is fresh and not heavily reused. I really enjoyed the small fishes with lemon and olive oil and fried calamari. Next time I would just get mostly appetizers as the portion’s are a good size, maybe a main dish to share. Finish off with the lemon sorbet it’s awesome!

Best restaurant of our trip! Da Mimi is a lovely, family owned fish restaurant on the beach in Torre Lapillo. All the dishes are freshly made and the portions are huge - I don’t recommend one started and one main per person as that’s way too much, we shared 3 mains in 5 people with 4 starters and were all super full. Only small issue is reservations - they don’t take names for the 9pm slot so you have to go there and stand in the queue. Queue can easily be 1+ hour. Would definitely go again in any case!

Zahir Trattoria Pizzeria Beach Bar is a beachside restaurant located between Torre Lapillo and Porto Cesareo. It offers a variety of delicious dishes, including pizza, seafood, and pasta. The staff is friendly, and the location provides a beautiful view of the beach. While the prices are slightly above average due to its summer club setting, it's worth it for the beach experience. The restaurant serves food all day and is known for its fresh ingredients.
Very friendly staff. Top location right by the beach with a beautiful view. Food was amazing, especially the steamed mussels were 10/10. The Taglioni al Salmone were amazing too and the pizza as well! It‘s a must-visit if you‘re at the Torre Lapillo Beach. 100% recommend

Pizza restaurant
During the Ferragosto holiday, we visited the Sirtaki restaurant at a somewhat late time. However, they accommodated us without any issues and promptly served us delicious, freshly prepared food. The waitstaff was both amiable and proficient in their service. I would definitely return to this establishment and highly recommend it to others. Although there was a minor delay due to one pizza being forgotten, overall the food was exceptional and accompanied by a fantastic view.
The most beautiful place I have visited in Italy, both to eat and to enjoy a great view of the Sirtaki sea ❤️😍

I visited the farmstay Lu Puzzu on a weekday, ensuring that it wasn't overcrowded. The quality of the food was exceptional, with delectable pasta dishes and flavorful meats served in large portions. Day 4

Southeast side of town
For day 4, we recommend exploring the southeast side side of town. Start the day off with Lido Dei Pirati, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Spiaggia della Penisola della Strea. All together, your day would be filled with about 6 hours of non-stop fun.

Specialty Museums
The Marine Biology Museum, managed by the Faculty of Biology of the University of Salento, offers a compact yet impressive collection of preserved sea specimens and reconstructions of local coastlines and seabeds. The museum's walls are painted to replicate the characteristics of the area's flora and coastline. It is a family-friendly attraction with varied exhibits distributed across display cases, making it particularly appealing to children. While labeling is primarily in Italian, visitors can still appreciate the long-standing artifacts on display.

Nestled at the end of a picturesque peninsula, Spiaggia della Penisola della Strea offers an enchanting escape for those willing to venture off the beaten path near Porto Cesareo. Lido Beach Hookipa is a vibrant beach club that perfectly captures the essence of seaside relaxation and enjoyment. Nestled just a short distance from Torre Lapillo Beach, this lively spot offers an array of amenities including sun lounger rentals, delightful seafront dining, and a welcoming atmosphere enhanced by friendly staff. Visitors rave about the pristine waters and delicious food, making it an ideal destination for those looking to unwind under the sun.
Wonderful place with pretty coconut parasols and teak furniture. A quality clientele of all ages, but mostly between 30 and 40. Lively atmosphere, but without any headache-inducing music. The staff is adorable and very attentive. The sand is clean. The beach beds are comfortable. The prices are more than reasonable. Quite crowded, as it was a Sunday in the height of summer. And yet, perfectly peaceful. A lovely discovery to end our stay in Puglia.

Toooo loud music. You cannot even hear your own voice. Even though there is an entrance fee, you have to add 0.50euro to use the shower. We did not have coins so we could not use them which was annoying. The sea was so nice though.

Hookipa in Porto Cesareo is an excellent spot I highly recommend for weekend aperitifs, especially when there’s some music playing. You can enjoy great drinks with your feet in the water or dance right on the sand, creating a lively and unforgettable atmosphere. If you’re in the mood for a tasty aperitif, you’ll find delicious snacks like tarallini, friselline, little mozzarella bites, and other local treats. You can also visit Hookipa during the day for the beach experience, but in my opinion, the true highlight of this place is definitely the evening aperitif vibe.

Best beach club in Torre Lapilla. Great service, clean, wonderful clear sea and always cold beer on the side 🏖️☀️🍸
Hildigunnur G — Google review
I would like to share my experience at Hookipa Beach, which was not very enjoyable. The sea is indeed beautiful, but that is not the credit of the establishment. It is not allowed to bring your own drinks and sandwiches, which I accepted. However, when I purchased food from them, it was very disappointing. The pasta with tomato sauce, which tasted like it came straight from a can, was barely warm and unpleasant. The fritto misto was as small as a fingernail and certainly not worth the price. Prices were sky-high. On another occasion, since we are a family with children we brought sandwiches , having noticed others there eating their own food. It seemed like we were being hunted down, as we were repeatedly warned that we could not have outside food. It was apparent that the lifeguards friends could eat what they wanted while we could not. I understand we are tourists, but this is not the way to treat visitors. Instead, they should make an effort to leave a good impression with tasty food. We chose Puglia to enjoy its tradition, flavors, and culinary delights, but it turned out to be a complete disappointment for tourists. I even researched and found no consumer law preventing us from eating homemade food. Only the sea and the beaches are beautiful, which is a gift from nature, not from them. In the following days, we visited another location where the staff was much friendlier, and there were no issues like these, allowing everyone to relax and enjoy.

Torre Chianca Spiaggia, Le is a beautiful beach with clean sand and crystal clear sea. It stretches for a few kilometers, offering both free beach areas and lidos. Despite this, the food is highly praised, particularly their excellent pizza.
Kind staff and tasty pizza.

Nice pizza, friendly service!

This place is within walking distance from where we are staying. The food is good; however, the owner needs to update the opening hours. The opening hours shown on Google Maps are inaccurate or do not reflect the pizzaria working hours. Today is Friday, and the pizzeria is still closed, with no chance of opening soon. They do not open early at all. I know this is Italy 🇮🇹, and things run in slow 🐌 motion...

It's a lovely small pizzeria a bit outside and away from everything. And that is also the only issue I had with it. It's kind of hard to reach, but it was definitely worth it. There weren't many people there, but the pizza was excellent. You can also order some stuff ahead, for example I ordered meatballs but they weren't too good. The stuff is also very kind and fast.

Last night, we arrived at 20h50 (hour on the ticket) and we had our 2 pizzas to take away at... 22h05. 1h15 for 2 pizzas who even aren't very good and with no "sorry for you, it was too long we know..." : we never saw that in ten years of vacations in Italy.

Nice, friendly and really fast. Food is good, kids loved it. Value for money, specially being a beach restautant
