Reading the most recent reviews, I'm confused; did we stay in a different hotel or has there been a change of ownership?
Summary: For more than 600 euros per night (we stayed for five nights) we got:
Pros: Great access to the slopes, warm hotel, hot water, clean towels, easy parking, one member of staff managed to smile and offer a sincere feeling of bienvenue.
Cons: We were given the wrong room staff were reluctant to smile, an evening meal at the hotel restaurant was marred by limited choice, unplentiful servings, spent limited time in a truly dangerous and shabby spa area, squeezed past each other in ungenerously sized rooms.
More detail, should you wish to read on: Four of us booked a room that would fit '4-5' for our ski trip. We were initially surprised that we were given three beds, but as the trip went on, we learned that our surprise was totally misplaced. The staff in this hotel don't give a snowflake's lifetimes worth of care for their customers concerns and if you waste time wondering why, you're just wasting your time.
When we alerted the reception staff that we were infact in a room that didn't fit our booking or our needs, we were greeted with acute disinterest. Two days later, after nagging what became a chronically disinterested cohort of reception staff, we were given a room that matched our booking, one that could sleep 4-5 people and one with four beds.
The Spa area is lined with marbled/quartz like flooring, there are showers, a warm,(not hot) jacuzzi which is on a 20 minute timer for bubbles, a small sauna, and a steam room that didnt work for the latter end of our stay. The flooring is treacherous. I explained to reception that I slipped and fell(uninjured). Reception staff didnt appear to care as it was wet and slippy every other evening we attended. This is not a place I would bring elderly relatives to.
More about the 'spa' area, paint work is visably affected by lack of care, there are tiles missing from the bottom of the jacuzzi, but that didnt matter much as it wasn't hot enough to want to stay in it long.
The rooms have a nice alpine woodwork feel to them. However it is advisable to bring your own showergel/shampoo as you get a few small bars of soap. Bedsheets are nice, but the single beds are on wheels so, if you move about in the night you really do move about.
There are thoughtful moments, especially by the housekeeping staff; on the third evening I ate half an apple and left it on the bedside table before brushing my teeth. I meant to bring it out on the slopes thee next day for a snack, however, the housekeeping staff kindly left it there for the following two days, just incase I wished to finish it. I didn't in the end - it sort of felt wrong to move it.
Our group had a great time otherwise in Montgenevre, there is a wonderful friendly brilliant boulangerie directly opposite the hotel run by a wonderful woman called Patrica. The skiing was brilliant and weather was wonderful. The food on the slopes was cracking- especially in Calviere -the Italian area nearby. We had a great time despite the hotel.
I do note that the hotel reduced our bill for the first two nights by 10%. And gave a free breakfast for our party. How magnaminous.
Best regards
